Question: I have an Acer Aspire R5. The touch screen stopped...

My touch screen stopped working. I followed some of the advice on this forum but was unable to find the HID Touch Screen in the Device manager. I then tried to find the driver for the touch screen, but it was not there. I search Acer Drivers, but there was no driver available. Where can i get the driver for the touch screen, or find the maker of the touch screen to download it from their site.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

MingYuen78,

If the issue did not occur until after the update I would perform a system restore to before the update and go forward from there, it could just be a bad install.

This was bought as a windows 8.1 model and I availed myself of the invitation to update to windows 10. A couple of windows updates later and the touch screen has stopped working. The HID-Compliant touch screen entry in device manager has disappeared and I am unable to locate ANY relevant drivers on the Acer web site. Also I am unable to find any mention of this by other users. Any help would be much appreciated. Paul

Hmmm.. I upgraded my R7 572G but my touch screen is ok. I'm not sure what you did. However, my problem was the screen does not auto-rotate in Windows 10. So I went to this folder to run as administrator to fix the auto rotate problem and it works. C:\OEM\Preload\FIXAUTOROTATE\EnableRotate.cmd

Hello Everyone!

This is a rather confusing issues and has pretty much **** me off to no end!  I am sure though that some of you may have encountered this already and might have a potential solution?

I have an Acer Aspire All-In-One, AZ5101 (Aspire Z5101), with 4GB RAM, etc.

Ever since the Developer's Preview of Windows 8 came out, I have been running Windows 8 perfectly.  I have completely uninstalled (each time cleanly) and run the following:

Windows 8 Developer Preview, 64-bit
Windows 8 Consumer Preview, 64-bit
Windows 8 Release Preview, 64-bit

In ALL cases, EVERYTHING on this PC worked perfectly - INCLUDING THE TOUCH SCREEN.  I never had an issue.

So far, so good.  Then, they finally released the Windows 8 Pro official licensed upgrades for download.  I purchased the upgrade, and downloaded it.  Just as in *ALL* other cases, during the upgrade I selected to "keep nothing" of the old system (I never really had any important data on here), and do the upgrade cleanly.

Well, after the upgrade was complete, and ALL of the Windows 8 Pro updates were applied through Windows update, I have a system where the screen is crisp and sharp, everything works, and in Device Manager, ALL devices show green and working correctly - NO ERRORS.  HOWEVER - NO TOUCH!!!  No touch screen function at all.  The screen this time around now acts like a standard monitor.

Hello there! I bought my daughter the Acer Aspire V11 touch for a Christmas present (Dec 2014) and we've had no issues with it. We were using it last night to edit some photos that she has taken and it was fine. Closed it down, left it on the desk and went to bed. I've opened it this morning and it now has a crack rifght through the middle of the screen and it's pretty much impossible to use as the mouse icon is going haywire. I know its not been dropped or trodden on so I'm a bit puzzled as to what has happened. Is this sort of thing covered by the warranty? if not can I buy a replacement screen and try and fix it? To be honest I'm not too fussed about the touchscreen as we tend to use a mouse as my big fingers struggle with the touchscreen! Many thabks Simon

Hello my touch screen isnt working?I just got it few months back? What should I do?

Answer:Touch screen not working acer aspire S7 393

In this case, it is first advised to check if the touch functionality is enabled on your screen. To check this, you can follow the steps below:1. Click 'Start' and then 'Control Panel'.2. Click 'Hardware and Sound' and then 'Pen and Touch'.3. In the dialogue box that opens, select the 'Touch' tab.4. See if the 'Use your finger as input device' checkbox is ticked. If not, then tick the checkbox.5. Click 'OK' to confirm and close the dialogue box. If the issue still persists, you can consider reinstalling the latest touch-screen drivers on your computer. To do this, follow the instructions below:1. Go to http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers2. Type Aspire S7-393 in the box below 'Search by Product Model' and click 'Search'. Your product details will come up on the screen.3. Select your operating system appropriately from the drop-down menu besides 'Operating System'.4. Go to 'Drivers' tab and download the latest touch-screen drivers for your model. If the issue still persists, you can consider performing System Restore and see if that helps. To know how to do this, the following link can be helpful:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc If the issue still persists, you are advised to contact Acer support by using the following link:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/contacts Hope this will help you.

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire R7-572-6423 touchscreen notebook.  It works great for the most part except for the touchscreen seems to glitch out every once in a while.  What happens is out of nowhere the touch screen will start registering a click in the very upper left corner of the screen (as seen by the Windows 8 touch visual feedback) even though I am not touching the screen.  The clicking happens very fast (several times a second) and makes the notebook unusuable. I can make the clicking stop by touching and holding my finger on the screen near where the clicking is happening.  However, as soon as I lift my finger, the clicking resumes. To fix the issue, I have to do a touch screen calibration (Windows settings -> Tablet PC Settings -> Calibrate -> Touch input).  However, the calibration appears to be off using this method (I cannot swipe the windows 8 bar to the right) so I then do a calibration reset (Tablet PC Settings -> Reset).  This generally resolves the issue for a while. I have tried moving the screen into different positions and cleaning the screen but the issue still comes back on occassion. Any support would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:Acer Aspire R7-572 Touch Screen Glitching Out

That sounds like there may be a problem with either the touch panel or digitizer on the screen.

My best recommendation would be to contact support in your region for assistance.

The only screen that was tested/qualified for any notebook is the one that ships on it from factory. We cannot guarantee there won't be any issues by installing a different part than what shipped on it originally.

HiI have an acer aspire v5 431 windows 8 laptop with a touch screen. I just returned from a few days away to find the screen has cracks in it. I can only assume someone got into my home while I was away and for some reason did this.I need to disable the touch screen, as while the screen display is still fine, the cracks in the screen are ghosting constant fast "screen taps" which are making it impossible to use the mouse or keyboard.I have been able to log in with great effort, and then via vnc remote (which was already set up to run as a service thank god) i can left click on most things. Right click is impossible, as the ghosting simply closes right click menus the moment they are displayedHowever i CANNOT do any touch screen actions /gestures, so I cannot swipe, to access any of the restart / shut down options.I CANNOT use the keyboard to search for anything, or use keyboard shortcuts, as the ghosting of a screen tap is so rapid its impossible to get it to react to any key presses.I have tried to boot into safe mode in the hope that the touch screen drivers arent running in safe mode, however I cant figure out how to boot into safe mode givin the above limitations. I have tried restarting (the only way I can restart is to hold down the power button on keyboard, as I cannot swipe to access the on screen power button, and have been unable to tap on it with a mouse. So i tried restarting via hardware button, and hitting shift plus f8 however it just boots into windows 8.I have... Answer:Acer aspire v5 431, need to disable touch screen. ...

Btw the os is windows 8, never got around to updating to 8.1 or whatever the latest version is.Keyboard is completely useless, ie things like control-alt-delete and other short cuts dont work, i guess because the cracks on the screen appear to be generating constant, and rapid 'screen taps' which are so constant and fast that no other input gets through. Cant even move the mouse to other locations on the screen, except via vnc. Cannot type, so cant search for file by any terms like file extension, pname, location etc.Another thing that might help, this is probably a really stupid question, but, there must be a keyboard shortcut that will give me the on screen power button, that is usually acessed by swiping from the right side of the screen, to the left (ie restarting by swiping, then choosing power (i think), restart etc.i have googled and gotten a whole pile of shortcuts, ie windows button plus x to apparently access the windows power tools menu, but either this is not the right shortcut, or the ghosting screen taps the cracked screen is generating are preventing that keypress from being recognised, as nothing happens when i try it via a vnc tool that allows me to access the laptop from my ipad. I cannt get my other laptop to connect to the virtual router wifi network the aspire is running so cannot access it via vnc on another windows pc.However the windows button on the vnc app the ipad uses is recognised and pressing it loads the windows 8 screen containing all the apps ... Hallo everybody I've just received my brand new Acer Aspire V11 Touch, plugged it in and hit the power button. The computer does start, but the screen remains black. I recently downloaded Windows 10 onto my Acer Aspire E15 Touch and the screen went completely black after rebooting. Now every time I try turning it on it shows a flickering black screen. have a look at this site

enter your serial number or SNID number and see if there are any windows 10 drivers or any notes about that PC and Windows 10
it maybe its not compatible with windows 10

I have been searching, and searching, and I can't find a direct answer to my question. My Acer Aspire One has a TINY screen and I heard you can connect a larger monitor. I thought that I might as well attach a touch screen monitor, 22", but I'm not sure if the touch screen will WORK in the first place.

Answer:Is it possible to connect an Acer Aspire One to a touch screen monitor?

It depends on the screen. I'm guessing your laptop had VGA output (that's what their website says) so you'll want a monitor with input for that (although you can likely get an adapter if it doesn't).Touch screen monitors usually have some kind of second connector for the screen itself. To make sure it's going to work with the laptop, you'll want to make sure the touch screen connector is USB, which your laptop will have.Other than those two things, you really should have a problem with whatever monitor you choose.

[size="7"]I recently bought an Acer Aspire Z5700 for my son's b'day. Last night he rang to say the Acer Touch Portal software keeps crashing (all the apps - movie player, photo viewer, touch games etc.) The touch screen still works with Win 7 so I don't think it is a hardware issue. What are the options with such a problem? I don't have the computer in front of me, my son lives with my ex-wife, so I can't say what specific error messages - if any are showing up. So I hope there is a simple solution I could phone him about!Nick

Without valid error messages...or the system...best thing I can suggest is to use the warranty/support provisions of the manufacturer.

My Ideapad P400 Touch with Windows 8 is no longer responding to right side swipe (charms bar gesture).  All other touch screen functions and gestures still work normally, including the left side swipe to switch apps.  The screen still displays the 'touch feedback' dots when I attempt the gesture but no charms bar appears! I've tried recalibrating as well as removing calibration of touch screen, and tried various other troubleshooting procedures I found on this site, like uninstalling recent updates, etc... Hi, I have the Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch, new as of april 2014, and since last week, the touch screen has stopped responding to touch inputs. Before this it has been working and behaving perfectly. I have tried to turn the laptop entirely off and on, reboots... No effect. The screen simply acts like it never was touch. The HID driver is present and claims to be working. I tried to reinstall it and it does so with no errors or warnings. I also tried to reinstall the monitor and graphics card drivers. The Tablet control panel icon offers a calibrate option but Reset is disabled. The calibrate doesn't help because it doesn't respond to touch. System says it has touch with 10 finger inputs. Windows 8.1 Update 1, Enterprise SKU Any advice is welcome. UPDATE! Touch works when I lay the screen out flat. But if I return it to any angle, it stops working. Is this related to LayFlat mode or is there a connection fault in the display for touch input so only when I lay it flat it has contact? Software or hardware?

Drivers all show working properly. Not intermittent. Tried settings and no help. No response when touching screen at all. Can't calibrate. Bios has no update available. Nothing in manual under troubleshooting. Any quick fix suggestions have likely been tried, but open to all ideas. If all else fails, and assuming the digitizer is bad, what does repair entail and any rough estimate? Is there any recall? I see this issue on the forum a lot with not many folks getting it resolved.TIA!!

Answer:U310 IdeaPad Touch :The Touch Screen Stopped Working. No Previous Posts Have Helped.

hi c2nah777,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Have you tried booting the system in Recovery Mode (One Key Recovery), You're not going to Recover the system since your only going to check the touchscreen in that mode "Outside Windows"

See if the touhcscreen works there,
If Yes, I would suggest doing a factory Reset First Before jumping into a hardware Repair.
If No, Then I think you're correct with the digitizer.

First do a Power Drain
     (If the battery is removable)
Remove AC and Battery and hold the power button down for 15 sec.
Turn the computer back on and see if the Touch capability is now detected under System Properties,

Hi I bought a Acer ICONIA 6120 Dual Touch Screen Laptop in 2011 when I was in US. I returned to India in 2011. In 2014 the bottom touch screen virtual key board started mal-functioning. The keys will automatically click making it unable to use. I gave it to a local technician he disabled the bottom touch screen. He also said the Hard Drive is corrupted needs replacement. He replaced with a new 500GB hard drive. While replacing it he changed the Windows 7 home premium to Windows 7 ultimate. From then on we were using it with a wireless key board. Now I am trying to repair the laptop. 1) Where can get 14" bottom touch screen so that I can buy and install 2) Where can get the recovery disks along with windows 7 home premium Thanks in advance for your help

Answer:Acer ICONIA 6120 Dual Touch Screen - Bottom Touch ...

I suggest that you first try to recover the laptop to factory-fresh Win7 home premium by purchasing the Iconia 6120 recovery media. This may help resolve the bottom screen issue. If you aren't in the US, please click on support at the top of this page. Choose the country. Then click "get support". And then choose contact acer for tablets. You should then get phone numbers or email addresses for Acer representatives who might help arrange for you to get this media.  Jack E/NJ

I bought 2 of these laptops from Evine. The model is the E5-573T-5521 Intel core is with Windows 10.  I use this laptop mostly for my social media and email and to do my research papers. I set it up so that it powers down after an hour of non use. About a month ago I noticed that the laptop was running significantly slower than usual and the cursor was jumping wildly all over the place when I try to type anything, that the Web pages I try to load would freeze up a lot, and that the machine would just shutdown and reboot itself while I was in the middle of doing something. It has a 1 terabyte hard drive that is nowhere near capacity. I have also never dropped or otherwise damaged this laptop.  Since the past 2 days the laptop refused to boot up at all. It slowly flashes the Acer logo and the preparing automatic repair message on the screen then it just goes black and does nothing. I know that these things aren't really made to last too long, but these laptops were not cheap, and 8 months is very disappointing. I am hoping that someone can help me to get it working again. Ive tried all the generic interventions i see posted on these forums and none of them work. Any ideas?

This could be due to a bad hard drive. If you purchased these new, not refurbished or previously owned you can contact Acer warranty support from the info posted at http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact for assistance in obtaining warranty repair. If these are not under Acer's warranty you can check with a local PC shop to see if they can check the hard drive for you.

Hi there! I have an 11 month old Aspire E15 Touch (which apparently is officially an "E5-511P". The touchpad has working fine but it suddenly stopped working. I've rebooted the computer but this had no effect. I went in to Device Manager and the only mention of "Touchpad" was under "Human Interface Devices" as a "HID-compliant touchpad".  When I clicked on it said "this device is working properly". I clicked on the driver tab and then update driver but it told me that the driver I had was the best driver (after a search). I decided then to uninstall the driver, which I have now done and the "HID-compliant touchpad" no longer appears. I've done a search of the net but it seems there are different types of touchpads for this model (?). Many questions:- I initially ruled out hardware fault because the computer said the "HID-compliant touchpad" was working. Have I made a mistake in believing this?- How do I find out what type of Touchpad my machine has?- If I find the correct brand of Touchpad, where should I save the driver (if I can download it)? PS running WIndows 8.1 64-bit. ThanksDamian

Hello All! My Aspire E15's touchpad is not working in Advanced Mode. When I am placing it in Basic mode from BIOS it is working but of-course we don't get the multi-touch features in Basic mode. If I restart and change it to Advanced mode, cursor is not moving at all. In fact, it is not even visible.  I have tried installing both the touchpad drivers available on the Acer website, but they are of no vain and do not work. The operating system I use is Windows 10 Enterprise and my laptop is in-warranty.Any kind of help/suggestion would be appreciated. Thank youSrikar

I have Aspire E1-571 running Linux Elemntary OS Luna.  The problem is that after a period of time touchpad will start to mulfuntion rendering any use of laptop impossible or only through keyboard. The mouse will dock on to a given page and will scroll as when using two finger scroll while im only trying to move around, often it will only be able to move the pointer vertially horizontally it is impossible. Turning the mouse on/off with  [FN] +F7 does not help. Only thing that restores it to normal is reset. That problem used to happen after few hours or days of use, now it will often happen within 5-30min of resetting it.  Thanks for help

Hi hope someone can help.

Back in april we got said computer. I have had to do a factory restore twice due to performance issues and getting blue screen of death. I am fully updated with windows updates, avast, MBAM, ccleaner and sandboxie. We dont really use it for anything other than games(kids) and surfing the net.

Today for no apparant reason i got the blue screen of death again and windows could not boot properly and i had to use the sytem restore feature before boot up. It appears to have worked(im here!) but why does it do this? Im fed up, 2 factory restores in 6 months is not good!

Recently I went through virus checks on here using combofix etc and it was clean, so i dont think there is anyhting nasty lurking in the system.

Advice please, before I convert to a typewriter lol

Answer:Acer Aspire touch Z5801 WIN7 64 bit

What is wrong with your system...today, right now?

Reference to your malware topic: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic467116.html/page__p__2826015__fromsearch__1#entry2826015 .

FWIW: The fact that your system was clean...IMO, means nothing, since you restored to factory defaults previously...which would have erased most malware present on the system. I say "most" since there are some forms of malware (such as the mentioned possible router infection) that are not affected by a restore to factory defaults.

OK, time to abandon this. Pretty disappointed that although I can dual boot finding the right drivers (video card and wlan) is next to impossible. People still want to dual boot and effectively it's being knocked on the head - I can understand why (from a marketing perspective) but this will only harm M$ in the long term. If I purchased useful software a few years ago, and it still has use to me today, then I should be able to run it on my "modern" computer without the need to downgrade the hardware, which is effectively what I have to do. W8 is new beginning true, and W10 will be an improvement, but M$ should: 1. Make virtual machines freely available - currently available (non M$) virtual machines are severely limited.2. Recognise that a lot of users still want run programs they ran using XP. Rant over, and M$, this is one customer who is close to abandoning your software.

Answer:Acer aspire V5 touch running slow

Check in task manager to see which processes or applications are taking up the most cpu and memory.
Scan for virus and malware
Get rid of all those toolbars and addons for your browsers
How much disk space is left you need at least 20% the size of your drive.
Use CCleaner to get rid of a) temporary files b)safely clean the registry c) stop necessary programs from running at start up

If this started happening recently try rolling back to the last known working configuration if you created a restore point. Here are steps on how to do that:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options
If you didn't create a restore point you might back up your data and restore the system to factory configurations. Test the system at that point before installing your third party apps. If the lockups and freezes don't occur, then it could be software that is causing this. If this doesn't resolve the issue please contact Acer support from info at this link:

I just recently encountered a problem with my Acer Aspire E3-112 notebook keyboard that I had been able to fix and would like to share the solution with anyone who may encounter the same problem. I had used a USB flash drive to copy some files without any issues. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that the 8 key on the keyboard had stopped responding, but all other keys worked as normal. I had pressed Fn-F11 (NumLk) and the 8 key started working again. Pressing Fn-F11 again disabled the NumLk mode, and the 8 key also stopped working again. I tried rebooting the notebook, shutting down and powering back up, reinstalling keyboard driver, etc, but nothing worked. To rule out Windows OS related settings, I rebooted into BIOS, and noticed that the 8 key still didn't work when I tried to change the time, but the other number keys worked fine. The solution that finally solved the problem was to shut down the notebook, and then using a paper clip, push it into the Batery reset pinhole on the bottom of the notebook for four seconds. Upon normal powerup, the 8 key started working again. If your notebook has a removable battery, then removing and reinstalling the battery might have the same effect.

Thanks for sharing. I've seen the battery reset fix a number of issues, but nothing as odd as the 8 key from working.

I was typing a document and I just hit it a little like just a tap and the charger stopped charging, I used a charger from another Acer laptop that looked the same and it worked even though it was too small. So I need to know where I can buy a charger that's :Input:100-240v~, 50-60Hz 1A maxOutput: 19v=== 2.1A

Answer:Acer aspire one 14 charger stopped working

You can either enter the keywords 'aspire one 14 charger' or the model shown on the charger label on ebay or amazon. Price is less than $20 for a new charger with free shipping. Jack E/NJ

hello, ive had an Acer Aspire L320 for quite a while now,

ive had it upgraded by a computer shop to make faster with some more ram and brought up the hard drive space to 320Gb and it was running fine till yesterday.

it has been running 24/7 for a while with maybe a restart every 2 months or so, and had no problems with it and now i plugged it in (after a LAN party needing space) and it wont even turn on. it turns on the fans when i plug it in and when it press the power button it doesn't respond and continues to run the fan.

I have alot of experience building computers, but this is my absolute worst nightmare because its so cramped inside. can someone direct me to what i should to to fix it or what to check and/ or replace

Answer:Acer Aspire L320 stopped working, HELP!

New power supply would be the first thing I'd try.

The screen is only cracked in the corner which is why I thought i would still be able to use my phone but the touch screen wont work at all. This has never happened to a touch screen phone I have owned before why has this happened?

Answer:I dropped my phone and the screen cracked however instantly the touch screen stopped working.

You could try rebooting your phone and see if you fixed it, but you may have cracked the digitizer in the exactly wrong spot. It could have been the corner where the wires connect to the digitizer that has broken the circuit. You're likely looking at needing to replace your touchscreen.

This is probably in the wrong location. I could not find a Laptop area for R7 or just a general Laptop.Anyway. I am running Windows 10, never had a problem with the touch screen until recently. The "Basic Information" screen says I have no pen or touch input is available.....not true. this is a touch screen. I've used it consistantly, and without problems. I don't know what to try to fix the issue. I read somewhere that it might be a "power management setting" I tried to see if it was, I opened the Properties on each of my 3 "HID-compliant vendor-defined device" to see if there was a power management option. One did have it, but it was greyed out and unchecked. Can change anything there. I tried removing all the "HID-compliant vendor-defined device" and they reinstalled on startup, but no touchscreen.I'm wondering if the latest Windows update wiped the touchscreen out!!! Please can someone help? I'm an artist, and using the touchscreen is very important to me.-Karen

There is a high probability that this is a hardware issue. As your laptop is still under warranty, you are advised to contact nearest Acer service center by using the following link for further assistance:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service Hope this will help you.

Today as I turned on my Aspire V3 laptop I found the system running extremely slow. Opening task manager I found RAM and Harddrive was almost running at 100%, then I checked it was McAfee scan that came with Pre-installation that is taking up all the resources. After about 10 minutes of running like this I decided to restart my computer. However after restart many system functions are no longer working. I can no longer access task manager. either CTRL+ALT+DEL or win-r wont bring it up. Tried MSCONFIG and again it wont start after I enter the keys. System restore similarly won't start after I click the bottons. There is no internet, clicking on device manager bottons won't bring up anything, driver update bottons similarly won't bring any response,  even reset to factory default botton won't work-was able to access the menu but when clicking on bottons nothing starts. - it seems as if the whole operating system is broke.  Since this McAfee program came with the Acer laptop (it literarily says McAfee Internet security -Acer on the program menu) was wondering if anyone from Acer knows about this issue and knows how to fix it. Thanks.

Sounds like the reboot came up in safe mode. Try a shutdown, restart to see if it clears up. Rebooting while in something as intensive as a virus scan / repair is seldom safe. You should always let it continue until it's finished, even if inconvenient.

If you recovered your system and reloaded Windows, that would rule out a software problem. I would suggest contacting Acer service in your region, to inquire about setting up repair.

Answer:acer aspire E71-571 series webcam stopped working

You must disable "Change TPM (TCM) State" in BIOS. (BIOS -> Security tab)First, add a supervisor password, so that function will be available.Save BIOS settings and restart the computer. That's how I managed to fix it.

one night i left the laptop on because i was downloading sth ... in the morning the computer was turned off and when i tried to start the thing, it worked fine up until the screen that says "Starting Windows" (i have windows 7 btw) ... and i guess right before the desktop is supposed to show up i saw a blue screen for maybe half a second and the computer restarts by itself...well the same thing kept happening everytime i tried to start the laptop...after that i tried Safe Mode, Automatic Recovery Mode, Start at previous good config., and every other option that is available after pressing F5/F8 during startup ... since that did not work i booted the computer with my windows 7 cd and tried to reinstall the OS .... after i press "Install Windows" (or sth similar) it says "Loading setup" (or sth like that) and just stays that way --and trust me i waited long enough ... since that did not work out i got a windows XP cd and tried to install it ... it loads up well enough and rite before installation the blue screen appears again (but this time it just stays there) .... the only thing i can think of is maybe that last d/l i was talking about might have been a virus or sth .... and maybe i can resolve the problem if i could somehow load command prompt and format the hard drive (i have only one partition btw) ... i read somewhere that pressing "R" just when windows setup starts should take me to Recovery Console but that didnot seem to work ou...
