I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a dell t3400 (core duo e8400, 4gb Ram...) which was powered by the oem psu, but I changed it to a corsair vs450 so I could power my gpu. Two months later, after taking the gpu and psu to another pc, I put the oem psu back into the dell, and tried to power on, but there is a blinking orange light in the power button. I doubt it is a mobo problem, because it was working today. Any ideas?

Hello everyone this is my first post here. I own a dell optiplex 745 with a core2duo 1.8 Ghz processor, 2 gb RAM and have also added an XFX HD 5550 to it. I have been using it since almost two years, and it hasn't caused me many problems except this blinking orange power light.
The problem is just this that the desktop just won't start. All that happens is that the power light just blinks orange. This has happened to it almost four times in the last two years, and the problem has seemingly resolved itself the last four times. Well it would go something like this: I would turn off the PC normally, and the next time i started it all i would get is this blinking light. Then after a couple of days or hours, I would try again and it work as if nothing had happened. But this time it happened four days ago. I turned it off, then switched it on but i got the orange light. Since then, I have tried so many times but this time I fear something much bigger has happened.
Now I have done a decent amount of work in trying to figure out whats the problem. The key thing to note is that its not my PSU (yes i used a different one). Does this mean it's my motherboard which is causing the problem? Or is it something else?
I did a bit of digging up on the internet for the same problem, and I saw one which said something about a faulty power on button http://www.instructables.com/id/Fix-the-Dell-OLOD-Orange-Light-Of-Death/

Answer:Optiplex 745 Blinking Orange Power Light

According to the Dell manual this is either a power supply or motherboard problem. It doesn't detail how to further troubleshoot.
Do you get any diagnostic lights? or beeps when you power it on.
But, you can remove the video card to see if the symptom changes. If not, reseat the memory as a next step.
If neither of these help you are back to either the replacement power supply or a motherboard problem.

1. If you're using a surge protector, power strip or uninterruptable power supply, disconnect those and connect PC directly to a working outlet.
2. Power off and unplug power cord from *rear of PC*. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec. Reconnect cord to rear of PC. See if it boots now.
3. Have you disconnected all peripherals, including mouse and keyboard?

Yesterday, I was just sitting there watching TV at my computer desk, with the computer on, next thing I know- I look over and the computer was shutdown. I didn't know why, so then I go to turn it on, it will not turn on- and the power button, that should be green, starts blinking orange. I'm not sure what the problem is, I think something might be dead. I have been getting a message that says "Alert! System Battery Voltage Low" for about 2 years, I'm not sure if that would be it or not (Maybe that died? Would that do it? I don't know).

When I try to turn it on, I can see the fan and stuff turn on for about half a second, then everything just turns off except for the mobo light and the orange blinking light. I've tested my brothers working power supply in mine, so I know that mine still works because that didn't fix it. I've taken the graphics card out, that didn't do it either. I don't know what else I could do, please help somebody, I'm lost without my computer... Thank you.

I have a Dell Dimension E510 that as of yesterday, won't power up anymore. The power light blinks orange and the computer does nothing when the power button is pushed or held in. It's about 16 months old and is out of warranty, so I'm trying to diagnose the problem myself.

I did some searching on the internet and found that this seems to be a common issue on these Dells, sort of a long term infant mortality issue. The most common causes seem to be a bad PSU, MOBO or a shorted USB input.

I've done some diagnostic checks/testing so far and am now stuck. Here's what I know.

- The USB ports don't appear to be shorted. I also disconnected the connector for the USB (which includes the power switch :banghead and it doesn't change any of the results that follow.
- I removed the power supply and jumped Power On (terminal 14, green wire) of the main ATX connector to ground. The fan comes on and all voltages (3.3, 5 and 12v)check out, including around 5.35v at Power Good (terminal 8, gray wire).
- With the power supply back in and everything connected, there is only 3.3mv at Power Good. As I understand it, this would normaly point to a bad power supply; however, all of the voltages check out when the unit is disconnected from everything.

Is is still possible that the power supply is bad, or is it more likely (or definitely) that the MOBO is the culprit.

Any help, including suggestions for additional testing is greatly appreciated.

Hi. Tonight I had a problem with my laptop. It was in sleeping mode, and when I open the lid there were no mouse function and no touch screen function. So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

Right out of the box plugged it in and power light began to blink orange work do anything else.
Any help with this?

Answer:Xps 8900 power button blinking orange

Try this:

Power off and remove power cable from rear of PC, not just from the wall
Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
Reconnect power cable to rear of PC
See if it boots now with only mouse, monitor and keyboard connected

If that doesn't help and you purchased it directly from Dell, contact Dell Support right away. Within the first 30 days from invoice date (not delivery date) you can send it back. Then order another one from their sales site.
If you purchased it from a "Big Box" store, take it back to the store and exchange it for another system.

Are there any 'Beeps'?
A blinking amber power button light, usually indicates a power supply issue.
Try installing a known working power supply to see if this makes a difference.
The Dimension 5000 does not use a Dell proprietary power supply, most standard ATX power supplies with either a 24-pin or 20+4-pin main motherboard power connector, with, or without the on/off switch can be used, a power supply with two SATA power connectors is needed. You should be able to buy a replacement power supply from a local or online computer store.
Regards to transferring the important files to your laptop, you could use the following:
Remove the hard drive and use an USB adaptor similar to THIS and attach the hard drive to a USB port of your laptop and transfer the files to the laptop.

1. Plug the computer into a power strip that has an on/off switch. Turn the power strip on. Press the computer power on button to start as normal, but after after one second turn off the power strip switch just long enough for the fans on the computer to slow down, but the amber computer led doesn't turn off and then turn the power strip switch back on. Computer should start and run fine. Computer typically can be shut down for up to 5 minutes and restarted normally--any longer and you have to sue the power strip power switch routine again.Click to expand...

I first logged out of my computer and came back and I noticed an orange light on the power button. I shut it of and turn it back on about two times with the same results of an orange light. I then shut of the the extension that houses 10 plugs. When I turned on the extension I turned on the computer the power button didn't give off a blue light or orange light. The VGA cable, mouse, keyboard, Ethernet cable are all plugged in. I later removed all the connects to the computer gave it a minute and plugged it all back in. There is a solid green light on the back under the power cable. The fans turn on there is noise coming from inside the computer a soft humming and light fan from the back of the computer. But the power button will not turn on. The monitor light is orange and says "No Input signal Input 2,Go to Power Save." When I switch to input 1 it reads "Cable Disconnected Go to Power Save." What internal issue could this be?

I have an Inspiron 3650 i3 desktop pc that is a few years old and seldom used. When not in use it is in sleep mode.
Yesterday i tried taking it out of sleep mode, with no luck, and noticed the power button light was solid orange. After a few tries I hard reset the pc and it would not boot up completely. The fans come on and the harddrive sounds like its working but i get no video and the power button remained solid orange. After troubleshooting from several forums i ended up disconnecting everything from the motherboard and taking out the battery then after replacing it and trying to boot with just the cpu fan plugged in. same result, solid orange power button. The PSU seems to be working fine after troubleshooting it so im thinking its either the processor or mobo that has gone bad. Any suggestions?

I don't think there is a way to turn off the blinking light. It happens on all Hp laptops when they go into sleep. (the power button keeps blinking but not on hibernation).

Hi everybody,
I recently inherited an unused PC from work. It's an Optiplex 780 with a faulty power supply.
I replaced the power supply with a working one from an old Optiplex 740 and also had to buy an standard ATX 24 pin to mini ATX 24 pin cable in order to use the 740' PSU in my Optiplex 780.
I have plugged in the power cord (but no mouse & keyboard because I don't have any USB keyboard available) and I expected the computer to show DELL logo as well as on screen POST messages during power up but instead I can see the following :
1) Power button in orange color. No blinking. : according to service manual it means PSU is probably OK and PC has reach booting stage 2.
2) 1,2 & 4 green diagnostic lights are on. This combination (1,2,4) is not listed in service manual so I have no idea on the possible kind of error.
Any suggestions about the possible error and how to fix it?
Kind regards,
Beltrixx
(Manel)

Answer:Optiplex 780 - unknown diagnostic light code 1,2,4 plus orange power button

Hello! I would unplug everything go into the computer and unplug any cards you have like graphics card and network cards etc. Also unplug your HDD and Optical Drives and plug them all back in and see if that clears it. I looked at the manuals you did and just combined 1,2 and just 4.

So is this a computer problem or a power cord problem?

Answer:Satellite M110 - Orange light flickers when I push the power button

Hi becks88,

Sounds like a serious hardware problem... Can you start the notebook without AC/DC adaptor or is the adaptor charging the battery?

Try also removing the AC/DC adaptor and battery for one hour at least. After this connect both again and try to start the notebook.

In worst case you need professional help from an authorized service provider? :(

Hi,

The Power supply is working however there is an orange light on the motherboard and power button that doesn't flash. The ABCD lights on the back of the computer are also not lit.

Answer:Orange Light On Power Button and Motherboard - Dell Optiplex GX240

GX240 requires specific NON PFC power supply. This unit is 16 years old now and has 512 meg ram of the PC133 variety. A newer model like an optiplex GX620 or better is still viable. This system is TOO OLD and TOO Slow to be of any use.

My fiancée's HP G62 laptop suddenly stopped booting. More specifically, when you press the power button, the power light comes on, but the screen stays totally black. I tried doing a hard reset on it (unplug, remove the battery, and hold power button down for 60 seconds), but that didn't work. I tried this multiple times with no success. I shined a flashlight on the screen to see if there was a faint image (indicating a backlight problem), but there is no image at all. I tried connecting the computer to an external monitor, and that didn't work either. Recently I had to replace the fan and the power button assembly on this machine, but it was working fine after that until now.

I have a Dell Latitude E5250. When plugging in the AC adapter the only light that comes on is the power button light and it's blinking continuously. The other indicator lights are off. The system board has been replaced, no change. After the system board was replaced the battery indicator light came on and the battery charged, though the laptop would not power on when the power button was pressed. It would light up then go out. I've removed the battery and AC adapter, held down the power button to discharge flea power, no change. Followed Dell TechDirect directions to remove the battery and CMOS battery, then insert the AC adapter and power on the laptop, no change. I've tried known good RAM. I've removed all components including the LCD cable, no change. When the AC adapter is installed the power button light blinks continuously, no pattern, no other indicator lights come on. Any thoughts? I'm wondering if it's a video issue, bad Touch LCD?
Thanks.

I have a Satellite P755-103. I upgraded the BIOS from version 2.6 to version 2.7 (file bios-20121002102409.zip) dated 17-09-2012. Since then, I noticed the light in the power button started to act randomly. It usually is on, sometimes it dims, sometimes it goes off, sometimes it blinks. I could not find any apparent reason for it. It also happens during the BIOS pre-boot phase, working on battery and working with the power supply on.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Paulo Pereira, Portugal

Answer:Satellite P755-103 power button light blinking randomly

Hi

Are you sure you are talking about power LED indicator and not HDD indicator.

The first from left is the DC indicator and it glows white when power is being correctly supplied from AC adaptor.

The 2nd from left is power indicator and it glows white when the computer is turned on.
But if you turn off the unit and goes into sleep mode, this led flashes amber.

The 3rd is battery indicator.

The 4th from left is HDD / CD/DVD drive indicator and it blinks whenever the notebook is accessing the HDD or reads from disk

I have a Dell Optiplex GX520. When I start it up, it comes on, working perfectly for about 30 minutes and then the screen goes black and the power button goes to a blinking orange/amber light. It seems as though it's hibernating even though I've changed the power options to make it never do that. I also revoked its ability to hibernate. It's under warranty for another month and I'd like to get it fixed as soon as possible. I've seen no conclusive evidence of what could be causing this. Hypotheses range from firmware problems to a broken power supply, but I have no evidence of any of these. I can't wake it from this state, I have to hold the power button until it turns off.

My daughter turned off my Dell Dimension 4600c (4 years old?) for vacation.
She then turned off the power strip - with surge protector.

We came home 5 days later and she turned everything back on but when the monitor stayed black she called me -- the power button was blinking orange.

I've googled this and searched on MG so I think this is some type of power failure...but isn't it odd that this happened when it was OFF?

Nothing else in the house suggests power failure or any weird event.

I opened up the case, reseated the memory sticks, looked for anything loose - nothing. Unplugged and replugged anything I could. Let pc sit unplugged for 1 hr....nothing.

I unplugged the harddrive and tried to start the pc with the HD unplugged -- nothing happens...just a blinking orange light -- no beeps, no noise, monitor stays black.

Do I start by replacing the power supply? I have no other desktops in my house (just the laptop I'm typing on).

I know this is trial and error. I could take my HD to work and test on another Dell - is that where I should start?

Thanks for the advice. I'd love to be able to find the culprit and replace it -- I just don't have spare parts around to swap in.

Answer:blinking orange light

When the case was open - I did notice a light would turn on on the motherboard.

Hi.
My computer when I'd turn it on used to be a green light, but lately it's blinking very slowly and is a dull orange colour. Nothing is wrong with the computer itself though. I tried changing the PSU cable to see if that would do anything, but it didn't.
My motherboard is an AMD Asus F2A55-M LK2 and my processor is an AMD A4-5300 if that helps any.
I tried to Google the problem, but all I got up was info for a Dell PC and mine is custom built.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello

Well, if the AC adapt is plugged in and the lighting blinking yellow/orange so it could be a power supply error.
If the unit runs only with the battery and the lighting blinking orange so it could be a low battery capacity or machine is not plugged in.
I think you should contact the service partner to solve this fault.

Got a notice while using my computer printer (HP DJ 380) that the cartridges were low and needed to be replaced. I replaced both with the correct id #, and now I keep getting this notice that the cartridges must be replaced. It's the RedBang notice asking if I wish to be connected to the HP store. I could have gotten two bad cartridges?! seems unlikely. So, as a result the orange light (cartridge trouble) keeps blinking whenever I power on the printer.

I am using a Thinkpad T61 and the battery light just recently started blinking orange while the battery is plugged in. When I try to reset the battery, my system shuts down immediately. The system also shuts down immediately when I unplug the charging cord. The battery shows that I still have 100% charge on it though and the battery info shows 70 something percent of the original charge. This problem has occurred all of a sudden since I was just on a trip in which I used the computer on battery life most of the time and had no issues. Now all of a sudden I can not get any charge apparently. This seems to be an unusual error and not just the battery discharging in the normal way. My battery does not fall under the replacement issues in the stickied thread (FRU 42T5262), but there are a number of other posts within that thread that describe my exact issue as well. There must be a problem with this battery series.

Hi, My battery is fully charged but the battery light on the computer is blinking orange. My x61 tells me that a battery error has occurred, the battery cannot be charged and that I must replace it. This is odd, as the computer is barely more than a year old, and this should not happen to a battery so soon. Is this potentially a software issue? The night before this happened Vista had an automatic update and restarted; when I hibernated the computer and took it to work in the morning the error came up. I'm not sure if there's a connection between the two events. Any ideas about what it could be and suggestions about what to do? Thanks very much.

Answer:Battery light blinking orange

Welcome to the forum! Your battery is defective and will damage the charging circuit on the motherboard if you keep on using it. This is NOT a software issue and should be taken seriously. You should check with Lenovo whether your battery is on the list of recalled ones. Good luck.

Hi sir

I have Toshiba Satellite L755 laptop came from Finland in 2011. I use it last 4 years now and it worked fine but since few months ago power on and charging light has started to blinking some time it?s starting late or sometime its starting immediately.

Yesterday I changed battery and Ac adapter but the problem persists. I reset the laptop by removing battery and AC adapter, hold the power button for 30 sec butt nothing happened.

Answer:Orange light is blinking on my Satellite L755

Hello

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there. If you are not able to start your notebook and all what happen is blinking LED, I’m afraid there is some problem with power supply electronic.

Blinking LED sends a code. This code can be read by technicians and using this code they can find out what the problem is. if there is some serious problem with board electronic I presume service will say that mainboard must be exchanged and it is pretty expensive.

Hi,

I have a Dell Dimension E521, it started a few days ago when it was running smooth, one day I turned it off. When I tried to turn it on a day later it wouldn't display an image on the monitor.

The computer power ups fine, the fans are blowing strong like usual on start up but do not stop blowing hard. Its like it gets stuck at the start up stage.

The power button flashes orange, while all components work in the computer, I have took out unnecessary parts such as CD ROMS etc.

I have checked all fans and every thing seems to be ok, but it wont display any image. (the monitor will not come out of standby)

Before I used to take out a random part and some how it would work after I plug it out and in again (switching power by mains off worked first, then taking the Ethernet cable out worked, then taking the ram out worked). This is quite random and I cannot think what it could be. I have taken everything out and pluged it all back in again, double checking all cables are correct and all devices are working correctly.

Please help me.

Dimension E521 is the model of my Dell Computer.

Hi First post My genuine battery is very tired and only works at 20% so I bought a new larger 9 cell battery from ebay. However whenever I put the battery in the orange charge light flased and power manager does not recognise the battery and just says error. However it still charges the old battery. I assume the replacement battery is at fault or is there something I can do on the software/firmware side to make the T43 recognise a non IBM battery? thanks

Answer:T43 orange blinking charge light on new battery

As far as I know there is no problem using generic batteries. As with any new battery, when first used it's best to plug it in the laptop and charge it with the laptop off for 12hrs. If it's then not recognized or won't hold a charge, the battery is bad. It's common for generic batteries for systems this old to have problems. Contact the seller and see what solutions they offer. ps. if you imported this from asia and it wasn't through a major reputable distributor, you may have a blackmarket battery that hasn't been inspected and/or approved by RoHS or UL labs. Be very careful, some of these batteries have been known to start fires.

For some reason my computer just wont work. I just built it and installed all the drivers. All the parts are compatible and everything is up to date. When I try to install games it either says Empire Earth Catastrophic error, No other information is given. When I try to install Command and Conquer Generals it says that a file is corrupted. I havent tried my last game because im afraid of the results :). One thing my friend and I think is possible is that it is the CD driver. It is a benq x56. But then it why would it read the driver cds. Its not the game because they are major brands.

try installing the games on another computer to see if you get the same results.

Hi guysI am wondering if anyone can help me please. I know nothing about computers, but have had my Dell Demension 5051 for over ten years. Running on windows XP. The only reason I have not upgraded, is because I only ever use word, Picture it 7 and presto Page Manager. Obvious.y you guys know these the last two are now obsolete and I have heard will not work on new comps.I simple cannot be without them and so desperately rely on this comp. a few months back, it would not boot and the signal push button start, which should go green and boot when pressed, started blinking continously orange. I turned it off and back on several times. But nothing. A couple of days later, by change I tired again and it booted. I removed everything I no longer need to an external drive, because I am aware I do not have a lot of memory. I ran a cleaning programme and CC cleaner, deleted all history. The comp continued to work with no problem starting for a few months, then last week it started to blink orange again.I have read and researched this problem and it all points to the errrr PSU unit. But I am confused as to why it comes on intermittently. I have braved at 75 years old to remove the housing and the bios (I think) battery replacing it with a new one as it has never been changed. This made no difference.I have removed all leads, plugs and power externally, I am not brave enough to touch the inside apart from the battery, and that frightened a few years from my limited lif... Last night I came home to find that the battery was blinking orange really really fast. Normally it will blink orange slowly if it is running out of battery, but this was much faster. Besides, the computer had been charging the whole time I was out. In fact, it says my battery power is 100%. I unplugged the AC/DC adapter to see if another outlet would help, but the computer instantly shut down without the power source. I looked this up on the Lenovo website, but was unable to ascertain exactly what the problem was. One possiblity was that the battery had overheated, so I shut the computer off for the whole day and then tried again, but still no luck. And I don't know if its related or not, but my computer was also running EXTREMELY slow all of a sudden. And my web browser, when I opened it, only opened up into a tiny box in the corner of my screen. I had to right click "maximize" to get it to be visible, and it still took 10 minutes to do that. Now it seems to be running a lot faster, but the light is still blinking and the computer still shuts down instantly if unplugged.A virus scan didn't fix the problem either. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem??

My Acer One orange battery light blinks 5 times when I first push the "on" button and nothing happens...then if I push it again, it starts normally (Win XP-SP3).Is there a list someplace of the "error codes" that explain what the blinking lights mean on boot up? If so, where is a link for it? ThanksChas Pearson

Answer:blinking orange light error codes

chaspear,

This sounds like the AC adapter is going bad. Does the battery charging light always show lit when powered on, or only when it is off.

If only when it is powered off, the adapter is definitely on it's last legs and cannot power the system and charge the battery at the same time.
If both on or off, the adapter is probably on it's last legs and needs to be replaced since the adapter can poweer the system and is probably not charging the battery enough while it's on.

Recently I replaced my shared graphics card with a dedicated graphics card. I have a dell dimension 9100 p4 w/ 4gb ddr2. Now when I go to turn the computer on it will blink orange for several seconds to several minutes - in one case as long as an hour - before it boots up. I have read that this would be a mobo or psu failure, however I dont understand how that could be if it does eventually boot up. Any insight would be appreciated.

Did you clean off the old drivers before you put the new GPU in? You will also want to disable the integrated graphics adapter in the BIOS.

Hi

I decided to try to repair my old laptop but I'm stuck on something.
When I'm trying to start the machine it just blinks in following morse code order:

- = long
. = short

*. - . . - - - .*

What could it possibly mean? I realy don't want to spent any money repairing it at some service point. Suggestions ?

Answer:Satellite 1400-503 - Blinking orange light

Hi qtong,

That means your notebook doesn?t start anymore, you only get this blinking code, right?

Well, in this case it seems to be a serious hardware issue and only an authorized service provider can help you because they have special tools to check what this blinking code means.

At the moment I assume it has something to do with mainboard itself but that?s just my personal opinion.
Mainboard exchange is really expensive as you probably know so I doubt it would be worthwhile repairing it?

Hi, I have a y50-70 that has been working pretty smoothly for the last two years. I am studying abroad in Italy and was told that my charger should have a built in power adapter, however when plugging into the outlet via an outlet adapter it immediately made a popping sound and started smoking. The charger was a replacement which had been working fine for about a year in the states, but I just assumed that this one didn't have the built in adapter and I drew too much power and fried it. I ordered a new charger specified for my model from amazon Italy (with European plugs) in hopes that it would work....but no luck, and he charger is making a consistent soft hissing sound when plugged in. I am also getting a blinking orange battery light when plugged into the charger, but this is the only form of response I'm getting from my computer. After reading around my best bet is that I've blown a fuse or fried the battery but I wanted to see if anyone had a more confident diagnosis before I go shooting in the dark. Any thoughts? Thanks, sam

Hello there,
I was on Word 2013 writing my college paper, when all of a sudden my screen went black and didn't want to respond to anything. I left my tablet alone like that for probably 20 minutes or more. I then hit the power button and left it alone for another 15-20 minutes. I then hit the power button to see if it would turn back on. Nothing. I've gone through all the troubleshooting on google for my tablet to see if it would turn on and now I notice this blinking orange/amber light flickering on the back of my tablet.
Please, I need my tablet for my college work. It's the only computer I've got. Can you help me??

Answer:Why is my surface pro 2 blinking an orange amber light in the back??

The internet suggests you should call Microsoft support and asks what it means. Sounds like a fault indicator.
Long press the power button for a minute. Then see if it powers on. If no difference, call Microsoft support.

New power supply.
I'd say your issue is due to the power supply or motherboard, in that order of probability. It wouldn't hurt to replace your power supply with the one I listed either way, because it's more efficient than the original.
For what it's worth, I have a Dimension 3100 which I've "hot-rodded."

On my Satellite Pro 6100 notebook, the DC IN indicator light (first on the left) keeps flashing orange and the notebook does nothing else (no display or sound). The light flashes for 8 short times, has a long pause and then starts over again.

I've tried a different power adapter with no joy. It does the same if you are just running from the battery and also if you are running from the adapter without the battery.

The only time it shows a different light is when you take the battery out, put it back in and hold the power button. The Slim Select Bay indicator light (second on the right) briefly turns green but then it turns off and the DC IN indicator starts flashing orange again.

It seems likely that it is an internal hardware problem (e.g. power supply, motherboard). Does anybody have any ideas? And also does anybody know anywhere that lists all the different orange light codes associated with Toshiba notebooks?

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100 - Booting problem (Orange blinking light)

Hi Andrew,

You are right in thinking that this is a hardware failure (most likely your motherboard). The blinking codes are used by tyhe service technicians to indicate the nature of the fault and I have yet to find anywhere that publishes the actual meanings of these codes.

I think it looks like a trip to the nearest Service Agent. :-(

Hello, Thanks for your quick response I have a fairly new T410 2252 series laptop and i was able to use/charge on regular basis. Last night i let the battery draincompletely and it turned off itself. Now I am unable to charge it back. i remove the batter pack and tried to use it directly with powersupply, even than it doesn't turn on. Is there any sequence that I should try to reset the battery? Your help is much appreciated.

Answer:T410 unable to charge battery blinking orange light

You can try resetting the battery gauge in Power Manager. Control Panel > System and Security > Lenovo - Power ControlsBattery Tab > Battery Maintenance button > Perform Reset You will need to leave your laptop plugged in during the reset and avoid using it. The whole process can take several hours depending on your battery size.

Hi I made a thread yesterday regarding a minor PC problem I had while trying to install windows XP on my uncles PC the problem was solved thankfully.

I now have an even bigger problem of my own with my PC.
I turned my PC on in the evening and the monitor screen was blank and displayed a blinking orange light, the fan does come on. I doubled checked the wires to see if any were loose but everything is inserted correctly.

What’s weird is the PC that I was installing windows on yesterday was doing the same thing but once you turn it off and turn it back on it would be fine and load windows.
But my one is not even doing that, there is nothing wrong with the monitor has I have brought it recently and I also checked the PC using my brother’s monitor and the same thing happens.

Once I finished installing windows on my uncles PC I turned my PC on and watched highlights of a soccer game so it actually was working last night. But I have no clue as to what has happened?
Can someone please help me?

Hi,

I've seen a couple of forums suggesting removing the power and battery and holding down the power button for 30 seconds. I've tried this a few times and it doesn't seem to have had any affect.

Is there anything that can be done, or is the battery broken for good?

Try a new signal cable from PC to monitor. If no change, try a new graphics card.If still no change, test the hard drive with "Seagate SeaTools for DOS".Click the "Download" tab here: http://www.seagate.com/support/down...The download is an ISO file, so you'll also need to install "IMGBurn" from here:http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn/Use IMGBurn to create a CD from the ISO file, then boot your faulty computer from it. The testing program will open. Select the hard drive and test it. If it fails the test you need to replace the hard drive. If hard drive passes the test it's okay, so test the RAM modules with "Memtest86" which is also an ISO file, so you need to create a CD from that too:http://www.memtest.org/

Answer:Portege M400: Power LED is Blinking Orange

This is called blinking code.
Write down the sequence of long and short flashs. It repeats after a longer pause.
In most cases the problem is related to power and charging. Try to use your notebook with AC adapter connected but removed battery. If the problem is solved replace the battery. If not you have to go to your local service partner because the problem occurs from systemboard.

Hi HitDat,
Thanks for writing to us. Do you see green light on the PSU at the rear side? Ensure the power cable is plugged in properly as well as the PSU connector on the motherboard is tightly secured. Re-seat the memory modules one by one and try with one module at a time and check. Regarding the data on hard drive, we would suggest to take the drive to a local store and get it backed up, or you can try the HD on another machine if possible and if it recognizes, you can back up the same.

For me it sounds like power supply problem.

I have a Dell dimension 4700 . I recently acquired it from work. Not necessarily in the best condition. I cleaned it up and tried to power on and all it does is blink orange/amber,it will not power on . It has started since I've had it though and i cleaned it up and it ran great, but i only got it to start one time. Its running WinXP Pro,with a Pentium 4. So what i know is that the mobo is getting power because the green light is on. I have checked the 4-pin aux cord that powers the processor. I know the power supply is set to the correct voltage. All cables seem to be connected properly. I have run out of ideas. Any Suggestions would be much appreciated!

Answer:Dell Dimension 4700 Blinking orange, no power

Even though you have a green light. The power supply could be bad. The green light says that the +5 volts is being produced. There are several volages the come from a computers power supply, not just one or two

Helloi have this computer (HP d530) : sometimes when I start the computer, I hear the voice of the fan and cd rom but the screen of monitor stay black (no signal) and the power led stay blinking in orange color. solution : I open the tower and unplug the hard disk napes and my two Ram ddr ,then I replug everything. sometimes this solution work and the computer works normally.I want to know the meaning of the LED blinking on orange and the solution of this problem . and I want to tell you that I see this problem just after moving computer in another room for example.

Answer:problem : power Led blinking in orange color (hp d530) 'with...

As I understand, the blinking LED is similar to the Post beeps that occur if you have a small speaker attached to you motherboard. In theory the blink pattern should provide an indicator as to the cause of the problem. Would it be possible for you to note down the blink pattern ? Or does it just blink orange all the time ?

Hello, the last weeks I am experiencing this problem.- The notebook turns on without any problems whether the battery is connected or not.- The battery seems to have a 2% charge (windows reports so)- If I remove the AC while battery is connected, computer looses power and turns off.- Last week Windows was reporting "not charging" while this week it reports as charging but the percentage is not increasing.- Whether the PC is on or off, the power LED shows up the same pattern. It is blinking orange and white non-stop.- Tried other solutions from this forum like removing battery and AC and pressing power button to drain all power, replugging the AC and battery, etc.- None of these solutions actually did not change anything. HP G62-b95ev - Windows 7 x64

I just bought a HP Pavilion DM4-2015dx laptop a few days ago. Turning it on this morning, it won't boot and the Caps Lock light is blinking. I have searched the HP site and Google for a solution to the problem and have found nothing to tell me what the blinking light means or why it won't boot up. Does anyone have an idea of what the blinking light on the Caps Button means?

Answer:Laptop Won't Boot. Caps Lock Button Light Blinking

But now it's not working on line I found this out about the blinking lights, There is a list of 7 things it could be.... Cpu Failure, Bios Failure, General Board System Failure..

Have you the option of re-installing the original powersupply to test (if still working)
Also confirm all powersupply and m/b connectors are securely plugged in

My Dimension 8200 turned off suddenly with no warning today. It just..died. Annoyed, I turned it back on--tried to at least. The fan still whirled, the CD-ROM drive still spun. The power button, though, glowed a hellish orange where green once shone. Then it sat there and nothing else happened. It didn't boot. The optical mouse light didn't flash. The keyboard lights didn't flash. Nothing.

This has happened before, so I wasn't too concerned. Last time, I panicked for a few minutes and it irrationally and suddenly came back to life as if nothing happened. That was about a year ago or so. This time, though, it's been two hours already and no miracle.

I've read through several threads about similar problems here and at Dell, but I don't want to believe that my motherboard or power supply is gone. Somehow, there MUST be another way. Sob. If anyone has some desperate advice for a desperate guy, please don't hesitate to grace me with a reply. Thank you so much.

My Inspiron 15R N5110 won't come on. I've tried both battery and 2 different ac adapters. I've removed the battery, unplugged it, and held the power button for 30 seconds to discharge the system, but it still won't come on.
I took the laptop apart and everything looks alright, but the DC jack was slightly brown on top so I replaced the DC jack board. It still won't work.
I made sure the connections are tight (the DC jack and other USB board) by screwing them down. The only thing that happens that shows any life is when the battery is in. The power button, power indicator light in front, and the little "gears" light blink white for just a moment, then off, about every 5 seconds.

Any ideas? If I have to replace the motherboard, what is the difference between 0G8RW1 and 0VVN1W? I'm not worried about the product key not validating - may even put Windows 8 on it.
Thanks!

Answer:Inspiron 15R N5110 - Will not power on, blinking white power and gear light

Hi brockalee,
Both the Motherboards 0G8RW1 and 0VVN1W are compatible with this model and there is no difference. 07GC4R is also compatible with this model.

if the ac plug is unplugged then i can get the led to turn off but once pushed, it ony flashes. no results

warranty is expired.
unit manufactured april 23 2015

i currently have it plugged in but no flashing light as i have not pushed the power button. im hoping that it will take a charge or correct itself with time.

what do you suggest? thank you

Answer:i have a lenovo edge 15 model80k9. led power light is blinking but computer will not repond. no power up . the battery is "s

Try the following...

1. Take out (or take it off) the charger.
2. Next take out the battery
3. Now hold down power button for 20 seconds and then rinsert battery.
4. Now put it on the charger again

NOTE: Make sure charger is plugged into the main power supply (not an extension cord, surge protector, etc.)

Sometimes, when the device is not plugged in directly, it doesn't get the power it needs. Holding the power button, while you restart it, clears out the temporary ram (no it won't delete anything you have saved) and will give the device access to the ram it needs.
