Windows 10 messed up my Soundblaster Z

Question: Windows 10 messed up my Soundblaster Z

I have a Soundblaster Z on my PC that was working fine until I upgraded to Windows 10 today. Now the sound still works but sounds like there is hardly any treble at all. It sounds like singers in songs are singing in a tunnel or something. You can't hardly make out what the vocalist is saying over top of the background music.

Can someone please help me fix this!?!?!?!?!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows 10 messed up my Soundblaster Z

Not yet maybe. According to Creative's website, drivers for Soundblaster Z will be available in August 2015. It doesn't say exactly when though.

Hi, I use stereo headphones for gaming and want a good surround sound experience. The RX is 7.1 the Z is only 5.1, what would be the best choice?

Answer:Soundblaster Audigy RX vs Soundblaster Z

The Soundblaster Audigy RXhas a SNR of 106dB while the Creative Sound Blaster z is 116dB. since your only using stereo headphones the 7.1 vs the 5.1 doesnt matter for you

Hi everyone,

before i reinstall windows 7, maybe one of you guys can help me out

I just installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on my dual core E6600 / P5B system

Fresh installation. Before that i had XP pro SP3

I have 2 soundcards, i use the PCI creative soundblaster live! 5.1 but there is also the onboard one

Both are detected by windows 7 and for both i found some drivers (after some research)

- Creative : i installed the kvx drivers latest version
- Onboard : its activated in the BIOS and i installed the latest soundmax drivers (seven drivers)

both show up in the computer hardware listing and in the audio mixer. I even get the green levels showing that there is an audio output. However, i get absolutely no sound from my speakers (and its working, checked on my ipod right before, i also used my headphones) from the creative nor the onboard audio cards. Nothing (which is why i suspect it might be related to the windows audio interface and not the drivers themselves ? But i might be wrong about that)

So what can i do now? Anyone faced the same situation before ?

PS : i work in IT so i tried all the basic stuff, but please speak away if you think i might have forgotten something
PPS : yes also i checked the other threads and didnt find anything so far but maybe i skipped something important

Hi and welcome. I have a sound blaster around here soomewhere. Let me see if I can replicate the problem. mine 64bit win 7 ultimate, 4 gigs. take me a bit so if I dont come back PM me. Im working win 7 and vista so I dont wnat it to fall thru the cracks.

Nicely writen first post btw. I assume you have checked all the usual stuff, so completely out of left field: are you using the default win 7 sounds? Im feeling if the system sounds work and you are getting response on the green bars that the cpanel has to be installed correctly but check device manger. maybe even see if there is an older vista driver just in case.

Let me go find that sound blaster while its still light.

If anyone has a suggestion I would greatly appreciate it. I have a Dell Desktop computer (8300) I need a driver for the soundcard (soundblaster 1024...NOT audigy) Win xp home OS. No driver found on the drivers and utilities disk although this is the card that came pre-installed. It worked fine until a RAM upgrade now it tells me that it needs the driver to be re-installed. Does anyone know where I could download the driver for this. P.S. I've tried a few generic NT drivers and some 1024 drivers and none of them work. So I'm guessing it HAS to be affiliated with Dell??? I don't really know. I would appreaciate any help with this.

It seems that the soundblaster cards are currently not working with Windows 8. To be expected since this is a pre beta. But I installed the drivers for my Extreme Gamer and it was crashing every few minutes. I then reinstalled Windows without installing the drivers and it was STILL crashing every few minutes. I have no removed my SoundBlaster entirely from the PC and so far, it hasn't crashed once.

Ive got an asus M4A785-M mother board running windows 7 home pro.

the action center says I have a sound card problem and that my "sound blaster x-fi" card needs a driver.
One problem. Im using the sound card thats built into the mother board, and there is no other card
installed on the machine because i could not get a windows 7 driver for them.

any ideas how to eliminate this error?

Thanks.

also, im thinking im going to have to upgrade the MB when windows 10 comes out anyways, so why bother getting a new Sound blaster card for this one?

Answer:windows says my (non installed) soundblaster card needs update

If you used to have a separate sound card installed windows probably stored something about it that causes that message. I would just ignore it, there's no need to get a new sound card as long as the on-board sound works ok now.

Hello!

I have an old test PC where I recently installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit to check the performance and compatibility with devices and applications. The onboard sound card is a Realtek AC'97 which as described in this thread will cause a BSOD if you try to install the latest Realtek drivers. The solution was to manually install an older version of the Windows XP 64-bit driver. Since the driver is meant for Windows XP 64-bit, as you may guess is not 100% compatible with Windows 10 64-bit. It installed the playback devices (Realtek AC'97 audio Speakers and Realtek AC'97 Digital Output) and I can play any sound perfectly, but it didn't install any recording device, so I cannot record any sound.

I have an old Creative SoundBlaster Live! 1024 PCI card (model CT4832), so I decided to install it and give it a try. For each attempt I restarted in Test mode (Disable driver signatures) just to make sure the driver will install whether is signed or not. The official Creative BETA driver for Windows XP 64-bit installed "successfully", but no sound was produced from the speakers! There was no official driver for Vista 64-bit or newer (not even for Vista 32-bit or newer), so I tried the SB_Live_SupportPack_2_5 (unofficial SB driver by Daniel_K). The same again, it installed "successfully" but no sound came from the speakers.

I wasn't so happy that I couldn't use a Creative driver (either official or unofficial), so I got my last resort, the third-party KX Project ... Read more

For windows 7 32 bit version.
I found some instructions online to put the equalizer control back
for the X-FI xtreme audio pci card on windows 7.
The X-FI xtreme audio is actually base on an audigy chipset,so it is
possible to use the X-FI driver with the audigy software.
I have put the files together for download here.
http://www.filedropper.com/audigytox-fiextremeaudio1040079xpvista42
This is a temporary download and will be active as long as it is being
downloaded.
Get it while you can.
If someone has a more permanant file server they could put it on,
it would be appreciated.

Instructions:
Remove all creative software from programs and features
in control panel.

Soundblaster properties requires a restart.
After restart.right click "computer" and click properties.
Click on device manager.
Right click the soundblaster card under the sound, video and
game controllers listing and click uninstall.
Select the box "delete drivers for this device" and uninstall.
Restart the computer.

Once the computer is restarted, unzip the downloaded folder to
extract the files.
Find the setup program in the folder and run it.
During installation, you may get a warning about a newer version
of control panel already installed, setup will exit.
Just click OK and setup will move to the next step.

Once installation is complete, you will notice in start/all programs/
creative, that creative console launcher is now installed.
You can use that to access the equalizer in entertainmen... Read more

Hello, I'm using windows XP SP3 and creative console launcher v2.30.32. My sound card is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio.

I have a problem with this application (creative console launcher v2.30.32) because I have to restart settings on each start up, means creative console launcher seems can't save my settings. For example: I have set the speaker setting to headphones mode and disable CMSS3D, and then it runs well, but after I restart my computer, the setting back to default(2.2 1 speaker, CMSS3D enabled) instead of my settings.

Why this problem occurred? Do you have any solution to this problem so I don't need to always set again the speaker settings on each Windows start up?
Thank you. I hope there is a solution to this problem.

Kev.

Hi all, since the creators update was installed my sound from my xfi dedicated card is borked....when i say borked, i mean the quality is terrible; sound is muffled...there is too much volume at low volume levels, and when clicking on the audio devices the "output" level meter is always at 100% even at low volume.

Im not sure how Microsoft has managed to bork an external sound card so much, but it has. I have tried removing drivers completely, using ccleaner to clean registry of sound drivers, and have reinstalled the latest driver on windows 10 which worked fine previous to this update. Nothing works.

Aside from uninstalling this painfully bad update (one of many recently) is there anything else anyone has found that solves this problem?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Nb the sound coming through the usb/motherboard is absolutely fine. Just the sound card is now broken. I have tried several drivers now and nothing works....even the standard windows 10 loaded driver shows the same symptoms. HEEEELP!

Answer:Creative Soundblaster xfi Titanium Windows 10 Creators update problem

Just to add some more details....it seems like gain was massively introduced to sound on this update. The bass is massively over the top; and everything sounds muffled. Its almost like there are 2 sets of drivers competing. With the volume on halfway on my speakers and the in windows volume set to 10 the noise is deafening, and the speakers cant take it. The speakers are semi decent logitech ones and this is definitely an issue from this Creators update.

I'll just use this form and add some info.

Please provide the following information:

* Make and model of your computer (assuming the PC was purchased at a retail store, etc)
Dell Dimensions 4600
* When you access Device Manager, what audio device is listed?
Quite a few..., not sure if this could be the issue

* When you access Control Panel -> Sounds, what is your default audio device (if any)?
SB Audigy 2 Audio [FEC0]
* Have you made any recent hardware changes?
No
* Have you made any recent software changes?
Yes, I have tried to uninstall the consoles/and tried updating the drivers. (Through Creative and through Windows)
--------------------------------------------------------

Alright so this computer is pretty old, but works pretty damn well, besides the audio of course. When I got it, it came with the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 sound card. Couple days ago I turned my computer back on (after it not being used for a long time) and found the sound was gone. (I can't recall if I did anything to hinder this)

I've tried to update/reinstall the drivers and any consoles associated with this, but no luck. Could it be possible that another sound driver is being used at this time instead of the intended Audigy 2? Looking at the pictures and everything, it looks okay.

I recently got SP2 for XP Pro, and it screwed up my comp horribly. After installing XP Pro (from XP Home) all settings and everything were destroyed. However, when placing some icons back on the desktop, they became jumbled. I stopped putting things on the start menu and desktop until I can get this fixed. Thanks. (I had a few other errors as well. IE and OE were missing, and 2 DLLs were gone. Those I have fixed though.)

My son accidentially bumped into my laptop that was on the table and it fell on the floor. When I turned it on all I saw was color damage to the screen. How much is the cheapest warranty if that is the best and cheapest way to go?

I reverted from Windows 10 back to 7. Every time I open mail I get a message "recovering database." Bunches of emails downloaded and when I deleted them some of them could not be deleted from the deleted box. So I did research and found that I should reconfigure my email by deleting the account and recreating it. Well, now things are a mess. I think I deleted the account even though it still is there but will not accept new email. I have never understood this live mail thing. I have a skybeam account that I use that is what I want to use. But I log into live mail with a hotmail account. I am so confused. I want to recreate my skybeam account but do not know how. Hi, I recently was using Windows Media Player 10, and ran into some problems with some files, so I decided to try a fresh install of the program. To do this, I tried to delete the program using the "add/remove program" option in the control panel and then go to windows programs. I went through that process and it removed it from the start menu and desktop, but it is still in program files in the c:/ drive. Here's the problem: I went to Microsoft and dl'ed the player, but when i opened up the file to instal it, it alerts me that I am running an incompatable version of Windows. Now, I'm running XP Pro, and I tried three times to dl the XP version and still no go. I tried to restore my computer using system restore: still no go, it doesnt seem like anything chnaged because WMP is still gone and I still have the problem. I am generaly very savvy with computers, but this is driving me up a wall and I really need help (i do alot of video editing for school and use the player to test footage). I would greatly appreciate any help on trying to fix this issue.

Answer:Need help: Windows MP 10 really messed up

Last I had heard / knew, though certainly never experienced, WMP is one of those things that can't be removed. Not sure why, to tell you the truth. My guess is that it's detecting the previous version of WMP and not liking that it's there.

If you need to get back to it, you should be able to run wmplayer (or double-click) from the directory. You can create a shortcut to it.

As to your video files, I would suspect codecs or corrupt files causing problems, not necessarily WMP itself. As an alternative, you might want to try something like Media Player Classic which will play all WMV files (except DRM) and every other file you might have a codec for.

So lately my comp has been acting weird. I know this is kind of being picky but I like my computer to run pretty flawless. PLEASE give me some opinions, I really appreciate them.

Issues:
-When I double-click an icon (either on desktop or in a folder somewhere) sometimes it looks like its going to load and then absolutely nothing happens, my computer just stays at the same screen. It takes a second double click to actually have it open it. (yes im sure i am opening it the first time)

-Windows media player takes a while to load when i go from song to song or from video to video (and sometimes in the middle). Im not streaming so its not that. But if I skip to next song/video or hold down the right arrow to fast forward, it will take a long time to load. (it used to be flawless).

Are these things common? I recently changed my RAM out but people have told me as long as the correct clock times are in BIOS then i should be fine. HELP! thanks.

Well I installed Windows 7 RC 2 days ago and I love it. However, I thought I could put all the short cuts on the bottom taskbar and then delete them from the desktop.

So I did that for everything except Garbage Bin and now whenever I try to open one of the things I deleted from the desktop, I get the message "The item refferred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may need special permission."

I tried to find the program files to make a copy of the .exe's but I'm still new to windows 7.

Please help!

I cant even go onto the internet. (Im using my brothers computer)

I tried to do system restore but it said" Cannot access C:/system32/blahblah...". I tried to upgrade using the Installation DVD but it said it couldn't read "E:/"

I am not a technically sound but normally I manage to repair my computer's problems by following the forums. I had a FakeAgent virus infection last week which I managed to clean by installing SuperAntispyware. My Mcafe although confirmed cleaning it many times but wasn't successful, even MBAM failed to trace. However, after cleaning I realized that I am not able to use system restore although I had several restore points. Also, I couldn't boot in safe mode/ any advanced mode. I tried few solutions from various forums but nothing worked. Finally I downloaded Safeboot program learning in one forum and used it to boot in safe mode. My computer then showed the advanced boot option but once windows screen started it ended up with blue screen error " stop 0x0000007E (0xC0000005,0xF76B0211,0xF78FA4E8,0xF78FA1E4)". The only way was to restart using power button but always ended up at the blue screen. I surfed several forums to find a solution and finally decided to use XP Pro SP3 CD to use recovery console or repair. When I used the one I got, it never offered any recovery or repair option and rather started installing it on C drive without cleaning the existing system flies. Answer:Seriously Messed up Windows XP Pro sp3

The best option is going to be to retrieve your data, plug the drive into another PC and transfer all of the data off of it. I would then format the drive, it sounds as if there's quite a lot of issues going on with the PC. Do a fresh Install of XP after this, it will save a lot of hastle.

Question: Windows messed up.

Since doing a refresh of Windows 10 some of my menus or whatever are messed up. It is hard to explain and I searched but since I don't know what it is called I will post a screenshot.

As you can see the tabs on the top are not flat and look like they did from Windows 2000. I can't seem to get them flat. I tried changing themes and I even created a new profile but they are still messed up. Besides doing another refresh there has to be a way to fix this.

Answer:Windows messed up.

Mine looks nearly identical except the tab on mine is whitened when selected and by default when it appears.

You could try right clicking on your desktop and navigating: This PC/Properties/advanced system settings/performance/settings/ And under visual effects select adjust for best appearance and apply it and see if that makes a difference?

Hello, I am using Windows 10, something happened (believe with the last update) and I couldn't log in due to no I'd or password section on sign in screen. My computer wouldn't execute recovery, repair, restore or reset via safe mode. I took a chance and put in my old Windows XP disc to try and repair Win10. Now it will not complete the repair and I cannot log into Windows at all. Have I ruined the OS? Is there any solution to my very ignorant decision? Thank you very much in advance I do not mind going back to the initial install of 7, 8 or 8.1 if that is what it takes. They all have been installed in this PC

Answer:May of messed up trying to fix Windows 10

If W10 was ever activated on that computer all you have to do is to install it clean using an appropriate ISO from MS. Mount it as bootable on a USB and start new installation keeping nothing. During install you'll have opportunity to delete all the partitions on boot disk and windows will create all that is necessary,
Here: Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First - Windows 10 Forums you have detailed instructions how to do clean install.

I upgraded to Windows 10, "which took for ever". Once the Windows 10 had installed completely and I was able to use the PC I close the PC for the night and re booted my PC the following morning and found that it again took a long time to boot to the "Enter PIN" screen, and then took even longer to complete the boot sequence at the point where I could start using the PC to look at my emails via Thunderbird etc. I was so fed up of waiting that I decided to revert to Windows 8.1 which boots in about 1 minute.
Now back with Windows 8.1 all appears OK except I have lost my "Account Picture" and am not able to enter the PIN at boot up nor am I able to reinstate the picture or set up the PIN again as I get error messages each time, the only way in is via the Password, which is inconvenient. The error messages are as follows:- "An error occurred trying to capture your PIN try again". "Account Picture error, setting the account picture failed, try again" I have tried with the original PIN and a new PIN I have also checked that the PINs match. What can I do? I could re install from my Disc Image back-up, but this is about 2 months old and many things have changed since it was saved. Help please!

Hi Guys, We use Windows 2000 Professional. Eric was trying to make our startup faster and went into Control panel/Administrative Tools/Componant Services/Services(local) and started disabling things that should not be disabled When he realized that it loused things up, he went back and tried to reinable them, but they woudn't work (for example, when we tried to start them, nothing happens, when we click on properties, nothing happens)

I talked to our tech support guy (who is usually very helpful) and he's stumped. He's trying to find something to help us on the Windows website, but we've been down for a couple of days now, so I thought I'd see if anyone here could help. Any ideas?

We've already tried Windows self repair and even tried to reload Windows on top of itself. Neither thing worked. In fact, when I reloaded Windows on top of itself, I got this error message:

COM+ Setup Error

Sub-component COM+ raised an exception while processing the OC_COMPLETE_INSTALLATION setup message.
..\csetuputil.cpp(line 5468)
Error code =0x8004e00f

COM+ was unable to talk to the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator

Setup was unable to to populate the 'Local Computer' collection

Thanks,
Cindy and Eric

Answer:We really messed up! Windows help

I would boot into safe mode, and then reconfigure Services too look like it should. Here's what mine looks like:

http://www.silversanctum.com/Win2k-Services.html

The ones without descriptions (nVidia driver services, SyGate, Symantec) you can ignore if you don't have them... those are apps on my machine. I just did a clean install last week, so this is fairly close to base install. The only thing I turned off is Messenger, because the service is only used for spam.

Don't worry about "Status" while in safe mode. You just want to change startup type.

Hello everyone,
First time user, and at my whit's end with my computer. Bear with me as my computer knowledge is very limited. I have a Gateway 2.8 GHZ celeron with 1GB of ram. I also have a Radeon Video Card (forgot the exact model).
I went to activate my computer from standby mode and it would not come up. I did a hard reboot and when windows came back up it was real slow and the computer monitor did not "turn on" until it entered windows. It seemed to be in safe mode. No icons were available on the desktop and the background I had was reduced in size and surrounded by the basic green background color. The other colors are also screwed up, the seemed very basic. I was able to get McAfees to come up and am currently running a virus scan. The start button with it's options is available but with very limited use. I tried a system restore, but the window would not appear. Whatever I open seems to open the window on the far left side of the screen beyond the reach of the mouse.
Bottom line is the computer is, for the most part, inoperable. If anyone out there has any advice for me it would be most greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Eric

He has Mcafee and it didnt find anything, he also used some other trojan scanner and found MyDoom that could not be removed. This sounds like a virus to me.

Can anyone recommend a good free antivirus program?

Is AVG good?

Avg is fine, but don't forget to install spybot to handle spyware and crappy IE hijackers.

Installed Windows 7 Pro on my new SSD. It works fine for 25-30 minutes or so, during which I installed my graphics drivers, WinRAR and my Xonar drivers.

After half an hour or so, no app works unless compatibility mode is selected, for Windows XP SP3. Windows Update does not respond, when I right click and go to "Personalize", the machine stays busy before giving a "Server Not Responding" error.

I believe this has something to do with a corrupt user profile. I tried creating a new user from Control Panel, no go. Mind you, all these apps work just fine in Safe Mode.

Any idea what the issue might be?

Answer:Windows 7 messed up?

What Xonar drivers are you using? Asus put out a set of drivers that caused this issue for me. Uninstall the sound card driver and see if the problem goes away. Well, it wasn't the driver itself, it was the Audio Center software.

I downloaded the service pack 1 upgrade for windows xp home edition and installed it. When I rebooted, the computer would go through bios and the xp home edition loading screen. Then, a blue screen of text would flash for like a milisecond and then my computer would reboot and the same thing would happen over and over again. I tried going into safe mode (which worked) and ran a virus scan and did a number of norton utility things (of those that worked in safe mode). They didn't pick up anything wrong. I did system restore to the day before I installed sp1, which didn't solve anything. So, I tried to reinstall windows xp. Everything went fine, but after the "installing componants" part is finished or somewhere around there, that blue screen flashes and the computer restarts. If I start from that same point in the install (i can't start over cause i can't go into safe mode now) the same thing happens. If I try to boot the computer normally, windows xp partially loads and then the blue screen comes up, but I can actually read it cause at the bottom it says stopped and then a bunch of hex code. Anyway, the blue screen is just saying that there is a problem with windows and stuff you can do to fix it. So I'm pretty much stuck. I was thinking of starting with a boot disk, converting my main hard drive to FAT32 (since it's in NTFS), and then installing windows ME and then try installing windows XP. I'm not sure that will work though... Oh... Read more

Answer:sp1 messed up windows xp

First of all,
If you want to run it as FAT-32, then you'll need to Debug the drive or use the Disk utilities from the Hard Drive Maker to "Write Zeros"

Once that is done, you can install the XP Upgrade by booting to the CD. It will ask for your Qualifying product tho...at which time you'll put in your Win9x/NT/2000 cd to verify and it will then continue with the install.

I recently purchesed a computer a couple months ago and with it came Windows XP Home Edition. Ever since I got this OS whenever I play videos in WMP everything looks wierd and psychadalic and does not show up
correctly. But the sound works fine. I have tried downloading all the updates but nothing is helping. I tried downloading the newest Divx Codec and making sure video overlay was working correctly. This only happens with non quicktime files. The only way to watch these files correctly is to open up k-lite and playing them in there, then going over to WMP and playing the file. As soon as I close K-lite and I play a movie in WMP it is not working again.

Im new at this and any help would be greatly appreciated much thanks in advance.

Just delete the partitions when you format. C usually is your active partition where your OS resides. The others are for storage. Delete them, format and create new partitions.

In the last couple of days I have received calls about Windows 2000 machines with problems. Both machines have the same problem although theres no link between them, different customers, different locations etc.

Control Panel - The icons now appear down the left side of the window where the descriptions would normally appear, the right half of the window is blank.

Printers - All the printers have dissappeared. When I try and add one it tells me the spooler isnt running. When I try and start the spooler it tells me the subsystem isnt there.

Add/Remove programs - Nothing in this window apart from accross teh top it shows the labels for the buttons that should be shown down the left hand side.

HiJack This shows a bunch of files with svchost missing.

I'm totally lost, it has to be an update or a virus but most antivirus programs wont even launch if were lucky enough to get them installed.

And I cant defrag the drive either.

Answer:Windows 2000 messed up

Re: Windows 2000 messed up - SOLVED

I had an epiphany.

After seeing the hijackthis log and the missing svchost.exe file I checked the logs for Clamwin and sure enough it reported an infection of svchost.exe with a Trojan virus that was then removed (along with the svchost.exe file).

I expanded svchost.ex_ from the i386 folder of the Win2000 CD back into the system32 file on the pc then ran sfc /scannow from a command prompt.

All the printers re-appeared, the control panel is back to how it should be, the add/remove program list is back and working and all the other little problems are also gone.

Just thought I would post the solution in case anyone else falls foul of this problem.

While I was using the program, DVD Shrink, the screen from the program froze up. So I turned my power on and off to restart my computer. When I restarted it, Windows XP had a blue screen on which I never saw before that said it would go through 3 stages to fix any errors that shutting down my computer may have caused.

After Windows automatically restarted, what comes on my screen with all the desktop icons is now messed up-- as programs automatically try to open, I get a box like this:
"ituneshe/per.exe- Bad Image
The application or dll c:/windows/system32/att.dll is not a valid windows image"

The same would happen for my anti virus program, and AIM.

Then when I try to get to system restore to go back to a different point in time when all was well, I get this box:
"System Restore: rstrui.exe- Bad Image" and beneath it says the same thing for the application or dll as above

I can still access all my documents, and my internet works fine. But the startup process seems like the beginning of problems to come in the future. Does anyone have any advice how I can remedy this?

Any and all comments are greatly appreciated-
Jason

Microsoft more or less forced me to “upgrade” (HA,HA) to windows 10, before I knew about it being incompatible with my AutoCAD 2010. Every time I hit a key a message to install Windows 10 popped up. One time when I hit the close X, and it automatically started installing Win 10, so I was screwed. Windows 10 messed up my computer to the point that the Microsoft techs spent over 20 hrs trying to fix the problems it created and finally gave up. They rolled it back to windows 7, and that did not undo the problems Win10 created, so they refunded my money and quit trying.
I've spend 3 days trying to get it back to where it was with helpful input from the Autodesk community. I've been able to re-install windows 7 (3 times), AutoCAD and repair all of the file folders that it corrupted, but I cannot get the rest of it to work correctly.
Windows update will not work. Restoring does not work; even re-installing windows 7 won't fix the problems. Windows troubleshooting doesn't find anything wrong.
One of the programs I have requires a minimum of Framework 4.0 and my computer has 3.5. 4.0, 4.5 or 4.6 will not load either. I get an error “ Blocking Issues: Setup cannot continue because a previous installation requires your computer to be restarted. Please restart your computer and rerun Setup.” I have rebooted several times.

Hello all, Dave here. I have done something that I have done before, with windows 7 on down. I had a laptop that had a broken power port, and the battery went dead. I ordered a new power socket. While I was waiting for parts, the owner wanted files off of it. I removed hard drive, hooked it up to my pc, which is windows 10 also. To access the files I had to take ownership of the drive. this seems to be a big issue with windows 10, that I could easily fix up afterwards with win 7 pro, xp ect. I tried searching threads, but didn't find one.
The laptop is pretty messed up now. slow, over 15 mins. to get to desktop, some programs won't open at all. access denied messages intermittently. I also found no restore points, so that option is not possible. I attempted to take ownership of C: where the operating system is installed, with TakeOwnershipEx . Confusing software, that did not produce any noticeable changes.
I wanted to do a factory reset, but some software has lost installation media. The one program that is stopping me is, what looks like a retail version of QuickBooks. It's over 1000.00$ to replace.
Is there any way out of this situation? I have a bootable usb with recent windows 10 on it from Microsoft website. Pulling what's left of my hair out. Thank you in advance for any advice, Dave

Hello,

I can´t find a solution to this problem anywhere in the Net, so maybe you guys can help me. I just did a reinstall of windows 8.1 on my desktop using the option to keep all data AND program files. The process went on very well....BUT when I restarted some programs' exe files are not found by Windows when I try to open them (Ccleaner and Office 2010 are examples) Ccleaner I uninstalled and reinstalled but the message is the same " Windows cannot find [path], make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again...." Office 2010 I ran the repair option but the message came on again, so I reinstalled it and couldn´t open it because the message came on again. I think paths got messed up somehow because those files are certainly in my hard drive. Please can you help me out?

I totally messed up my user permissions as I keep getting an 'Access Denied System 5 error" at a command prompt. In my stupidity, I just started changing all the 'user/mycomputer' permissions thru UAC - when I started this, of course, I was asked do I want to continue - I said 'YES' and proceeded to click away - then I started running into the 'Access denied' and something about 'inconsistencies' and how I could mess things up. I just want to get it back to the original state (when I bought computer). My question is- I have several different discs - a Factory default backup(s), a Windows 7 System Repair disc and a Drivers & Apps backup all from when I originally bought computer - which(if and) will 'fix' permissions or will none of these discs help? and if none, what are my alternatives? OR could I just be lucky enough to take one of my last backups and restore that ? Thanks

I have options on the screen to enter safe mode, safemode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known configuration and start windowns normally however none of these work. Each time i choose any of them it jsut returns to the same screen. What should I do?

Wow... just recently I had finally gotten rid of a problem with the help of some of the guys here, koudos for that, that now just 3 hours ago I got infected by a very malicious virus called smart HDD. I manage to get it out of my computer.. at least I think so, avast, malwarebytes and spybot search and destroy doesn't find it on it anymore. But it left my windows installation a mess.

Just to be on the safe side, when I noticed I was infected and ran my first virus scan which had to get me rebooted and I lost the option to boot into my os's I decided to unhook all the other hdd's and do a repair system on the main OS. That worked and I was then able to fool the virus by going through the run search to find my firefox and download malwarebytes. Don't know why I didn't have it on since I'm a life time owner of the program.. anyways. Got it to run, ran an other scan of avast, and got the virus out.

Still since then, all my data is still being hidden by the false partition that has been created by the virus, although both MB and Avast ran the scans and found the data to be where it should be. It seems that the virus somehow fooled windows 7 to think the data is in a corrupted partition which it's not.

As you can see from the following pictures, it's as if my OS isn't seeing 99% of the files, strangely it still does see gimp, and some of the Microsoft office 2007 tools.

It was running WIndows 8 perfectly. So I had to go and install Windows 10 which doesn't run so well on it.

So using the recovery USB I made while doing the Windows 10 upgrade I tried to rollback to Win 8.
After a couple of restarts I got to a screen saying:

It then restarts and goes to:

The issue was caused by rolling back from an image on a USB, NOT the built in revert feature that allows you to go back to the previous O.S. within 30 days.
I know that doesn't help your situation, but it may prevent others making the same mistake.
Having a backup is a great idea, if the original O.S. doesn't function as it should, once it is reverted back.

I really hope this can be fixed. I bought a computer off Craigslist and it was running a pirated version of windows 7 ultimate 32 bit, instead of the 64 bit version of home premium that it would have shipped with. This is an Acer aspire 5560-7402. So I downloaded home premium 64 bit from windows and burned it as an iso to a dvd. when I rebooted the computer from the dvd, the windows installer said said something about how it couldn't install windows because it was partitioned in the wrong format. So I thought I needed to delete the partitions and I did. I got rid of the OEM one from acer that was 16gb and the big one that was 400gb. I left one that was 100mb. It still wouldn't install windows on the empty partitions and I couldn't get the old ones back. Now it wont boot into windows at all and when I reboot using the win 7 hp 64 bit disk I made, it hangs and gets stuck at where it says starting windows. How can i fix this? please give precise instructions.I'm thinking I need to delete partitions or format the drive some how but I don't know how to do it."there was this big bang once, now we're learnin' to use our thumbs"message edited by ganymede

Answer:Trying to install windows... I messed up

Boot to your windows DVD and delete all partitions and start again from scratch with a completely empty disk. .There is nothing on the hard disk that should prevent you booting to the DVDThe very one you should have deleted you left alone and that is the 100mb one. That contains to boot loader and system files to get windows started. Leaving it there makes the BIOS think there is already an OS installed, which of course there isnt. the 16Gb one would have contained the Acer start up code to do a system recovery That would useless without an Acer start-up disk. Hi guys..

My windows media Player and Windows Installer have been corrupted since i've messed up with the registry.
even YM 10 won't be installed to my laptop.
as well as Microsoft Updates, when my I saw my View Update History, majority of the updates hava a failed status.

I've tried System Restore, yet nothing happened...
My problem started on the 8th of April, but the system restore only gives me the chance to choose from the present restore point, up to the earlier restore point, which is April 9. with this, i can conclude that system restore won't work for me anymore..

so guys, if you have any ideas. pls help me?
and is the last option for this problem is reformatting ?

WinXP Pro SP3 - here's the deal... the PC boots fine to the login screen where we have "user 1" and "user 2". Both user accounts have the same problem. When I try to run ANY program, it doesn't run unless I right-click and select "Run as" and then click OK. I do not have to change anything in the "Run as" window. If I simply double-left-click on a desktop short (or try to run something via Start > All Programs), nothing happens. No error, nothing. Here's something a bit weird: lets say I try to run MalwareBytes by double-left-clicking the desktop icon, nothing happens; then I right-click on CCleaner and select "Run as" and then click "OK" in the "Run as" window and CCleaner opens just fine, but the MalwareBytes icon on the desktop remains a faded blue as if it's still selected or highlighted. Strange. Anyway- I have tried numerous "permission fixer" utilities w/o any positive results. I've poked around here and there but I'm not even sure what I'm looking for. The client said he was in "Add/Remove Programs" and says that "I must have removed the wrong thing to cause this kind of BS" and I'm thinking this type of BS cannot be cause by uninstalling something thru "Add/Remove Programs". Time is important on this so if anyone has any info, PLEASE post it kind of soon....

HUGE THANKS!!! (as always)

Since installing Windows 7 SP1 two of six of my internal USB 2.0 drives are messed up. When I plug a thumb drive into either of the two, I get a pop-up that says the device would work faster if plugged into a high speed USB drive. Well, they are and I had no problem prior to installing SP1. The driver versions are the same on all of them.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Answer:Windows 7 SP1 messed up 2 USB drives

Seeing as SP1 is still in RC beta. I would try uninstalling it and see what happens.

If you installed a Leaked Version (which I would never recommend), then you may have to reload windows.

I recently received my mobo back from an rma. I was hooking everything up and started windows and it told me one of the drives need to be checked for continuity. I let windows do its thing, I come back and its only showing 1 drive and windows says it is corrupt. So I turn off the my pc and check the cables and I see that both jumpers are set to master, I forgot that I used my slave drive in an external enclosure. I remove the jumper on what is supposed to be the slave drive and I start up windows and now I see both drives but neither is accessible. I'm pretty sure when it did the disc check I saw it delete something but I took no note of it, but now both drives do not read in windows, they show up but are not accessible.

Anyone know a fix for this?

Edit: Windows is reporting the hard drives are raw and not formated, I thought the check disk would only fix errors not totally erase the hard drives? The only thing I really need from the hard drive is some emails everything else really doesn't matter.

Edit 2: I ran an acronis program that checked the disk and repair the errors on one of the hard drives that I know had no important files and it restore the drive to a usable state with SOME of the previous files, I got about 60gb of 100gb. Im not to sure if I want to let acronis or windows xp do a check disk on the second hard drive for fear of creating a bigger mess on that drive.

I have no idea what happened. I had one update which installed today:

Does anyone know what happened? At first I could not get any program to open, it would say something along the lines of internet files could not be found, can not open program. I uninstalled the video drivers and now I can open up programs.

Hello,
Wow, i messed up the networking on my Windows XP Pro. I was running trial Zone Alarm. The Trial Ended, and I decided to uninstall it. I go to Add/Remove and begin to unintall. Waiting for a while, Add/Remove seemed to be frozen. I could not scroll up/down. Nor was there any kind of progress shown that ZA is uninstalling. So i did a hard restart. However, now i can't access the Internet under my profile. So...I can boot into Windows SafeMode with Networking and access the internet. However, when I try logging into my profile, i can't. I tried doing a System Restore, but afterwards, i could not EVEN LOG INTO my profile. I could some error about either nothing have the security rights or files being corrupted to log in. I can undo the restore and log in, but then i don;t have internet. Need Help Please!!

oh...and i hope this is the right sub forum...
-thanks

Answer:I messed up Windows' Networking -> Need Help Please!!

first, its far better to image your OS (clone the partition) and store it offline than to employ restore points
those are warehouses for malware in the event you get infected (in which case the first thing you do is delete them), not that this sounds like a case of infection, and your SAM (Security Accounts Manager) sounds screwed up in the restore point anyway.

having a dual boot and a copy of the registry to repair with could fix that, or severa;
but you have likely already overwritten the last known good configuration having booted a few times (its a copy of your registry kept at WINNT\repair (W2K) or WINDOWS\repair (XP) but its only of the last good boot, internet connectivity or not)

Id say boot into what you can and.....

i was using black box for windows (bb4win) and it was all working fine and well, except for one day when my computer would not shut down, and all that would happen was everything from the blackbox GUI would exit out exept for the background, it would do the same thing when i tried to quit so i couldnt bring up anything, and i was basically crippled, so what i tried to do was open an explorer and delete the blackbox folder, so i opened a finder, quit blackbox (so i could delete the .exe) and deleted it. Now every time i reboot nothing opens and all i see is the old blackbox background, no taskbar, no anything, and none of my startup items start up. I tried booting in safe mode to click it off of the startup items (which is hwhat i should have done in the first place) but nothing appears and all i get is a blank screen with safe mode in each corner. How can i get into the startup items menu or run the origional GUI?

So I got my Rikomagic MK36 to connect up the the tv for the Mrs to use. Awesome little thing for the 5 minutes I had it working! It dual boots windows 8 and Android.

It was running WIndows 8 perfectly. So I had to go and install Windows 10 which doesn't run so well on it.
So using the recovery USB I made while doing the Windows 10 upgrade I tried to rollback to Win 8. After a couple of restarts I got to a screen saying:

Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. process1_initialization_failed.

It then restarts and goes to:

Your Pc couldn't start properly. A requried device isn't connected or couldn't be found Error code 0xc0000225 You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media.

I must have seen those blue screens about 1000 times in the last couple of days. I could still see it when I went to bed!
So I am stuck in a loop and can't even load Android on it.

So I've tried booting from a USB drive by changing the boot order. The USB drive show up in BIOS boot it will not boot from it at all. It just goes back to the blue screen loop.

You might have dislodged an internal connection on your motherboard? Check each connection to ensure it is correctly plugged in to the motherboard. Is your mouse / keyboard plugged in via USB header? If so, pay attention to USB header connections on the motherboard.

The DISM command does stick at 20% for a long time - just leave it to complete.

You could try setting the BIOS to default settings and removing the CMOS battery for a while just in case the BIOS settings have been corrupted.

If you conclude you have a Windows 10 problem rather than a BIOS/hardware problem, you can do an in place repair install - see Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade You can get the ISO file here https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9...-download.html

I decided to boot Windows 8.1 off a flashdrive so I would have my own computer basically.Iv been booting off the flashdrive for about 3 days. I created it with Wintousb. Today I installed some programs on the flashdrive and messed up Windows 8. I can boot normally into windows 8 and login and everyuthing but i ca not save ton the desktop and Word,Google Earth, steam, and adobe will not run they all get errors. Word says Can n ot create temp system variable. I can than keep clicking through the errors and eventually use it but when i try to save i get more errors. I googled around and fixed some things with regedit but it didnt help. I also tried to go to the user folder from C:/users/zfamily(Our user) but i get permission denied please ask your administartor for permission. I beliove if i can regain permission to that folder all the problems will be fixed because most errors occur somewere in that folder. Is there anyway i can fix this with being an admin or asking my dad to help? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Im pretty good at computer stuff. So if its complicated i can probaly figure it out.

I shut the computer down earlier to head into town...  I was surprised to see it had so many updates to do as that doesn't happen often...  most of the time it's just 1 here and 1 there... So, I shut it down and left...
I just got home and when I turned it on... it finished the updates.  If any messages popped up temporarily I missed it... but when I came back and windows was finished loading... wow... nothing was there that should have been and the background was different... then something popped up in the tray saying I was logged into a temporary account and I could try logging out and in again.  Not sure what that was about but... okay.
So, I logged back into my normal account and
It was back to normal but a bunch of icons were gone from the desktop...  I shut it down and restarted... they're still gone.  More than half a dozen.  I don't remember what they all were...  I know the recycle bin is one but I have that up in a dock anyway...  I checked in the recycle bin, they're not there.
The rest would have been program shortcuts and/or actual files saved to the desktop.

Hi there,

I must have recently fiddled with some setting or other in Windows XP.

Unfortunately this seems to have changed how folders are viewed !

(Please see screenshots 1 & 2 sent as attachments)

These screenshots are before and after shots

As you can see… screenshot 1, (before) has a kind of blue taskbar with things that might be useful to do.

However on screenshot 2, (after) the blue taskbar has disappeared !!!

Another thing is…. in the My pictures folder, as you can see, I used to be able to get the pictures running as a filmstrip (see screenshot 1 – before)

Now the best I can get are thumbnail shots (see screenshot 2 – after)

I have tried to change the setting by going into the view tab however the filmstrip option is not there.

This is very frustrating

Please help

Regards Richard Milner.

My computer is an Acer Aspire 5733Z-4633 with windows 7. It was running really slowly for a long time and I was desperate to somehow fix it. After trying many things for the past two years I thought I would try factory resetting it and reinstalling windows. Well while doing that it got to about half way reinstalled and then my computer just shut down/ over heat ( which it does a lot). I turned it back on and it popped back up as half finished but is stuck there. This happened about a week or two ago. Right after it happened I just have up and figured I could get another computer eventually. Well it hasn't worked out that way and I really need/ want my computer back. I turned it back on an it is still stuck on 19/34 , which is clear.fi v1.0. It says on the screen to plug in the charger and keep the computer on, which I guess when it over heated and shut down is what is causing the problem now. Is there some way to restart the windows reinstall process? Please any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

Answer:Messed up windows 7 reinstall. Please help!

Are you doing an install from a Windows 7 installation DVD?

Or are you doing a "recover to factory settings" (also known as a "restore to factory settings" or a "factory reset" or other terms)? If so, using the Recovery partition or a set of Recovery DVDs or CDs?

When you power on the PC can you get to the BIOS or boot order settings or any special menus?

Hi

My windows automatically upgraded new build 5 days ago and now one of my professional medical programs will not work. Support told me it is not compatible with this version. I tried to restore system but did not help
When i try to go to old build it tells me the files needed are missing. Using a dell latitude e5550, with latest windws 10. At the moment i do not have the original widow discs
I want back to the way things were .

thanks!

Answer:Windows 10 upgrade messed me up

if restore did not work, then you will need the disks/drive for the older version

in the search type
winver
what version do you now have

was this pc upgraded to w10
what windows came with the machine ?

you maybe able to do a factory reset - but , windows will want to update again,
you can turn off updates completely - but that would make the pc insecure and a security risk
also if you are using windows defender, that will not have the definitions updated each day

Recently today I tried to reinstall windows xp home edition on my computer which already had windows xp home edition... dont ask. The installation failed to load a file so I just quit and restarted.

Anyways the problems were...
- On start up I would have to choose between Windows xp home edition or Windows xp Setup
- My desktop looks stretched out, scrolling takes forever and looks like it blinks kind of on the screen, and when I move any window it takes a long time and also kind of blinks on the screen while it moves.

I edited my boot.ini file so I fixed the start up problem. The only problem I have now is that my desktop background looks kinda messed up, you can see ripples and when I scroll it takes forever and quickly blinks, and when I move click and drag anything it runs slow and kind of blinks.

Any suggestions?

I was messing around in the notification area and all of sudden my desktop has changed, every app I've opened takes full screen, and won't restore down, they will minimize. All the desktop icons are hidden, there's something similar to the start menu on the left side of the desktop where I can click and get my icons, they're large, in the middle of the desktop.

What's going on?

Answer:Windows has messed up my desktop

This option takes your PC back to an earlier point in time, called a system restore point. Restore points are generated when you install a new app, driver, or Windows update, and when you create a restore point manually. Restoring won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made.

Select the Start button, type control panel andthen choose it from the list of results.Search Control Panel for Recovery.Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.
Note
If you’re not seeing any restore points, it might be because system protection isn’t turned on. To check, go to the Control Panel, search for Recovery, and then select Recovery > Configure System Restore > Configure and make sure Turn on system protection is selected.
