Question: Aspire M5-581T shuts off unexpectedly while on bat...

Hi friends,I own an Acer Aspire M5-581T.Everything with it works fine except this one problem. While I am using it on battery (i.e. not charging), it shuts off unexpectedly. If the charger is connected, it runs just fine. No unexpected shut offs. Can anyone suggest me a solution? Is it battery related issue? should replacing the batter fix it?Thanks in Advance. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I guess it's the right solution. Its running Windows 7.  It works normally whenever I am surfing the web or doing anything other than watching streaming videos.  I can watch videos on youtube properly,  but for some reason, the computer randomly shuts down when I try to watch something on hulu.com or even cnn.com.  So it seems to happen only with streaming video.  And I have no idea why, I thought it might be the graphics card overheating, but then I should have the shut down problem with youtube too.  So what could be the issue

Answer:Acer aspire 5733Z-4633 shuts off unexpectedly

How long have you had this laptop? Is it under warranty? It might be the video card. But you can not be sure It can be also a weakness in the chip set, a poor driver, a weakness in the BIOS firmware. Just to mention a few thins. You should not have to fix it unless it is out of warranty. The fact that it does some videos alright and bops on YouTube does not prove that it is YouTube at fault. Things happen. The CH archives have loots of cases where a PC or Laptop will lock ;up randomly. The is no simple answer.Have you ran some basic diagnostics? Memory check? Drive check? What about virus scans?

I have an Aspire  M5-581T and all USB devices that I plug into any USB ports comes up with the mesage that "The USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi Speed 2.0 port".  When I check Device Manager it is showing a whole list of USB Device Drivers  (See Below).  Do I just delete all but the USB 3.0 Device Drivers??

So recently my HDD crashed and I decided to upgrade my laptop with a SSD so recently I put windows 7 on it and installed it directly on the 20gb that comes on the system. The SSD I bought however does not show up internally but when I put it on a USB to use the SSD as a external it shows up, but I want to truly install it as a bootable drive, I tried using it in AHCI doesnt work, only works in IDE, if I do AHCI the laptop gets stuck at the "acer" screen. I already formatted it and everything just incase. It only boots from the internal SSD and it is so frustrating. Does anyone have any solutions on how to make this computer recongnize the SSD? thank you.

Answer:Aspire M5-581T will not boot from SSD.

the new SSD is listed on BIOS as SATA device? by the way the 20GB SSD was intended as intel cache drive.

I have an Acer Aspire M5-581-6807. The computer turns on (both battery and corded); however, it is very fast and goes from the Acer logo screen to the following message "No bootable devise, hit any key" and an "ok" is highlighted. The problem is that none of the keys respond even though the backlit keyboard is on. The computer is stuck on the "no bootable devise screen, hit any key". I have tried inserting my recovery discs, etc. but nothing seems to work. I would appreciate any and all feedback. Thank you, Joanne

are you able to enter BIOS pressing F2 at boot?if so, check if your HDD is listed under SATA devices. i suspect an HDD issue.

Hi, I got this laptop Acer Aspire M5 581T (G) and sometimes I need to press the power button like 20x before it opened. Yesterday, I was streaming movie online then it suddenly shuts down. I tried to powered it on again but this time, it goes to ACER LOGO then blue screen for like 1 sec then shuts it self down. I tried pressing F12, F8 but nothing. Can anyone help me what's the problem?  can I power the laptop while removing the battery? and only putting the charger? one more thing, where can I download windows 8?

Answer:Acer Aspire M5 581T (G) ( Won't turn on )

You can use the laptop on AC power by itself if you like but from the info you provided the system will need repair for the power issue. This model shipped with Windows 7 which is what Acer supported on this model. Acer does not offer a download for Windows 8 but you might see if there is a Windows 8 image available to download from Microsoft.

Hello The screen on my Acer Aspire laptop is broken - it has a couple of purple cracks running diagonally and a bunch of black shapes that look like ink blots. I have connected the laptop to a separate monitor and it works fine. I am happy to continue using it like this for a while since replacing the screen costs more money than I have for now. However I wanted to check: - is it in some way dangerous to use the laptop in this state? Are there any substances inside the screen that might be toxic in some way? I haven't noticed anything leaking out of the 'ink blots' (though they were shifting around the screen for a while). I realise this is a strange question but researching it online, I find everything from "It is safe to be around as long as there's nothing literally flowing out." to "Wrap the laptop in plastic and throw it away even though it's too late now cause you have cancer already."

Answer:Aspire M5-581T - Broken screen

It should be safe to use as long as nothing is physically leaking from the display.

I have an Acer Aspire M5-581T. I purchased it directly from Acer. This was a settlement based on a class action suit. I was required to buy a refurbished. As such I did not receive my Restore disk, or anything else in the package, although I paid additional cash around $195 on top of the allowance. I am now receiving a message that my "computer needs repair" with a File:/BCD and Error code : 0xc000000d.Basically, my operating system appears to be "gone". I have called and searched for help, but short of paying $99 per half an hour to someone in India to fix it, I have found no help. Should I not be able to receive a restore disk from Acer?Acer's website will not even give an option to talk to anyone. All I get is "your warranty expired on 3/12/2013. I did not even own this laptop then! Any help or suggessions will be greater appreciated.Darius

Answer:Acer Aspire M5-581T Restore disk

I would suggest you to rebuild the BCD (Boot Configuration Data) from Command prompt and check if that helps. 1. Insert the Windows 8 installation/recovery media and boot the computer using the disc.if you don't have a media installation or recovery:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media Note: You need to check the computer manual on how to set CD/DVD drive as the first boot device in the BIOS. 2. Once you boot using the Windows installation disc, on the Windows 8.1 installation window, click on Repair your computer. 3. Click on Troubleshoot and in the Advanced options. First thing you may try is the Automatic Repair. If that does not help, go for System restore. If that works fine, then create a system restore point so that next time you encounter any problems you may always restore the computer to the recent system restore point created. 4. If that does not help, then select Command Prompt. Enter the following four commands into the prompt. bootrec /fixmbrbootrec /fixbootbootrec /scanosbootrec /rebuildbcd Once the command completes, restart the computer. if this doesn't work:Acer recovery media:if you are in the US you can buy it:http://store.acer.com/store/aceramer/en_US/eRecoveryif you are outside the US, you must call/email your regional Acer support service:http://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/#_ga=1.157815354.1650522051.1412414371

ALMOST SOLVED...  I have an Acer Aspire M5 581T Ultrabook. This past Friday, I went into the UEFI Firmware settings, and since I got out I have been unable to get back into my computer. I did NOT make any changes to any settings while there and I chose ESC to get back out. Once the computer rebooted, I was back at my login screen as usual. But when I key in my PW, it immediately takes me to a dark blue screen w/my icon photo directly in the middle of the screen. If I select the photo, it takes me right back to the log in screen. My only options are to Sleep, Shut down or Restart. So far I made an ISO file so I could create a bootable UEFI USB flash drive to be able to boot from it, but it wont boot from it because I learned that you have to tell the computer to boot from the USB drive. That cant be done because I cannot get back into my computer. I also was looking into creating a recovery disk/flash drive. I created the recovery flash drive, but it failed to boot from it too (im assuming because the computer does not know to boot from it). I cant create a recvoery disk because its Win 8.1 and it doesnt do it for this version. The reason I found the UEFI Firemware file was because I was looking for a way to do a system restore on that laptop. In Advanced there should have been several options for me to choose from and one of them should have been System Restore. There was no Troubleshooting Option, for which Ive seen on screen shots the last few days. I on... Read more

I have an Aspire M5-581T running Windows 8.1 64-bit.  The webcam isn't working! I opened the Acer Crystal Eye and I get the following message: Unable to connect to the webcam. HELP!!!!

Answer:Aspire M5-581T Webcam doesn't work

You may need to check if the device is getting displayed in your Device Manager. To open Device Manager, you can follow the steps below:1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap "Search".(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click "Search".)2. Enter Device Manager in the search box, and tap or click Device Manager. If asked for admin password, please enter it appropriately.Once you are into Device Manager, double-click or double-tap the device category and see if your webcam is getting displayed in the list. If it is displayed and if there is a yellow icon besides it, there may be some issue with the device. To troubleshoot this, click or tap the device, then click or tap "Action", and then click or tap "Properties" to see details about the webcam. If the drivers of your webcam have not been updated recently, you can use "Download and install drivers" to update the drivers. I am not sure if this will help but, you can refer to the following link for some more troubleshooting steps:http://acer--uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9909/~/webcam-error-message%3A-camera-not-found...If the webcam is not found in Device Manager, it is recommended to contact Acer technical support through the following link:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact

For everyone still using an Acer Aspire M5-581T (6807): this laptop still works with the Windows 10 Creators Update. Acer published a list of all Creators Update compatible devices ( https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/windows10-creators-update ). Though the M5-581T is not on there, i can tell that i had no issues with software, drivers, etc. after this update installed itself. Ps. This is not a request for help, but just information. I searched like dozens of websites (Acer and non-Acer) before installing this update and found nothing for the entire M5-series. So just wanted to share with fellow M5-users.

My system started pausing/freezing, log files showing some errors about not finding some *.dll files. The system will still boot; I enabled the administrator account, but have lost the original user profile. All the docs/files are still there in the usual c:\users\username\... directories. Installed Seagate's SEATOOLS app and it reported a failure, not completing the process. I used the recovery app from Acer and created a bootable recovery device (Seagate expansion portable drive) and a CD of drivers and apps. I am told this system has a small SSD, but it is hidden because it is for the OS, Win8.

I've put an identical replacement drive in; I changed bios to boot from the external USB device and it comes up in what appears to be recovery mode. I select option to completely refresh system, but it then comes up with "drive where windows is installed is locked". I select the reset option, it asks whether I want to re-partition. If I select yes, it returns 'unable to reset pc system drive cannot be found'. If I select no to repartition, it returns 'unable to reset. A required drive partition is missing.'

Using the recovery app, I can get to command prompt; it comes up as windows ver 6.2.9200, x:\windows\system32, The c:\ dir<enter> command returns efi (D), bootmgr, boot (D), bootmgr.efs and sources (D). I insert another usb stick and those files show up correctly.

Also, a byproduct of installing drive it indicates it can't find a battery now!

Answer:Recovery from HD failure on Acer Aspire M5-581T, Win8

Sounds like it is really messed up and you are losing a lot of time and headaches.

It would be better to do a factory restore, you could order factory restore discs from Acer for a nominal charge if the recovery partition is corrupted. Make sure that the drive is healthy, do the S.M.A.R.T. test diagnosis tool from Acer verifying the health of the disc. As always, backup your data first.

My Acer Aspire M5-581T laptop "battery not detected" shows battery not detected. I have taken the battery out, left out for 3 days, reset by holding the power button 20 or more seconds... I have also reset the BIOS, then had to change a setting or two to get to boot. Now I have not flashed the bios nor updated. But I am leery of flashing the BIOS as I have read some that have not been able to get their laptop to work again. The problem started a couple weeks ago, when I discovered that my D: drive (mechanical hard drive) wasn't working just the SSD C: drive. I did disconnect the battery and took out the hard drive and found it okay. So it is again working but upon plugging the battery back in, I have not been able to get to work or start on the battery. I did try to measure the voltage of the battery, and of all the connections I tested I found just 2.2 volts on one black & red wire. Now the battery was holding a pretty good charge of 2 or more hours unplugged. If it is just the battery has used up all its charges then I will purchase a new replacement battery. But if anyone has any ideas, or thinks that 'FLASHING' the BIOS might work & can direct me to the right page, I may try that. Thanks.

I keep getting a blue screen titled Recovery whenever I turn my computer on. It also says BCD error code 0xc000000d. It gives me the option to press escape for UEFI Firmware Settings and I don't know what that is but nothing happens when I press escape. This error showed up randomly today. I haven't deleted anything on my computer or anything since the last time it worked. I turned the laptop on this morning and it worked but it's said that I didn't have any wifi connections available, which it does sometimes, so I turned it off and back on as I usually do, but this time, the blue screen came on. No discs came with the laptop aside from blank m-disks and I don't have a windows 8 installation disk since windows 8 came installed on the laptop already. I called windows and they said they couldn't do anything to help me. Most fixes that I have seen require the windows 8 installation disc. Please help asap. I'm in the middle of a winter class session and don't have access to another computer. I also can not afford to take it anywhere to be fixed. There must be some type of fix since I haven't done anything unusual to my computer.

Bootsector viruses and other malware that targets the bootloader or the booting chain can cause errors in the bootloader settings and state that result in an infinite loop of Startup Repair. The virus may then block Startup Repair from either launching or carrying out its repairs successfully. Lately my PC has been shutting down out of the blue, in about 5 seconds at that. Also, upon turning it back on it starts up real slowly. This generally happens when playing games, however if I'm on the computer that's what I'm doing so not sure if that's a good assumption. No viruses, according to AVG at least. When I look at shutdowns in event viewer it doesn't say much more than it shut down due to error.

/e I'm running windows 10 on an HP Envy with i7 Processor and 12 gb ram. Also, of 5 Hardware monitoring programs, not a single one will report any 5v or 12v readings for my motherboard. Is my power supply bad, or are none of these compatible enough to test it?

Answer:PC Shuts Down Unexpectedly.

Do you receive any blue screen errors when this happens ? If not suggest to check temps and voltage with this free software, can be Power supply issue or temperature issue. Can post a screen capture from this software http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Forgive me if this has already, and most likely been posted.

My windows xp spontaneously shuts down and restarts for no known reason. I can be surfing the net, using the calculator, or just plain doing nothing, and it shuts down with no warning.

I have disabled the auto restart and am gathering information on the file that is causing the problem. One file that was identified today was "ikhfile.sys".

And now I am at a total loss at to what to do next.

Answer:Xp Unexpectedly Shuts Down

Welcome to Bleeping Computer You are presumably blue-screening, and your computer is set to reboot whenever thathappens. Right-click My Computer/Properties.On the Advancedtab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery. Under System failure, uncheck the box "Automatically restart".Now when the problem occurs again, instead of restarting, you will get theblue screen with diagnostic information. Post back with those details formore help.

My IE has been closing unexpectedly lately. But it only seems to happen when I'm on the website for my university, which is odd. What happens usually is this:I'll surf to the website (which is http://my.mun.ca) --- it's a web module for students; I use it to access my distance ed courses.I'll click on a link for one of my courses. (Let's say RELS 2811).Then let's say I open the "discussions" page. It opens in a new window, so that obviously, in order to get back to the main RELS 2811 course page, I have to close the "discussions" window by using the X in the right hand top corner.BUT. When I do that, meaning to close ONLY the "discussion" page, IE closes altogether. Which is not what I mean to do. I only want to close the discussion page so I can get back to the main page in order to get to another part of the site. Can this have something to do with XP, or something else? Does anyone have any ideas as to why this could be happening? Thanks!

Answer:IE shuts down unexpectedly

Try minimizing the active window rather than closing it, does that work for you? Also try hitting alt f4 to close the active window. HTH

I'm running IE6 with Windows XP. Here's my problem. I go to a web site, click on a link that's on that page, it appears to load the link's page and then IE shuts off. No error message, no freeze ups, just poof! It's gone. I can click on other links on the same page with no problems. It does this on several web pages, but not all. I can move over to my other computer and get there, no problem. Any ideas?

BTW, this is my first time here.

Thanks.

Hello,My desktop PC which seems to function fine sometimes (about three times a week) turns itself off for no reason. This isn't a controlled shutdown (ie no "Windows is shutting down" screens), it just suddenly stops.About 80% of the time the problem happens during strat up. Just FYI - the PC runs updated Windows XP, has plenty of hard drive space, 512 RAM, 1.6GHz processor, new video card. Runs Telewest/Blueyonder PC Guard as anti-virus.Any ideas? Or is there anything I can down load and install that might report where the problem is next time I start up?Thanks

Answer:PC shuts down unexpectedly

Depending on the demands of the new graphics card it could be a sign you need a new or more powerful power supply.

My wife's computer, running Windows XP Pro keeps shutting down; usually after Windows loads, but sometimes as Windows is loading. I replaced the power supply and the heatsink but that didn't help. There is no evidence of the problem in Event Viewer and she can successfully boot into Safe Mode. Any help would be appreciated.

I work at a bank and I have a customer that is trying to access our web site. Each time she enters our address it causes IE to shut down. She gets the following error message after IE closes: The instruction at "0x03ab4176" referenced memory at 0x03ecc920". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I have made sure that she has all the current updates. I don't know anything about her PC except that she is using XP and IE 7.

I don't believe it has anything to do with our website because I have accessed it from several different PC's and have never experienced this issue before.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give.

Answer:IE shuts down unexpectedly

In IE, Tools> Internet Options> Advanced tab. Uncheck the box:
Enable third-party browser extensions
Apply, Ok and OK. Reboot and see if you still have this problem. If it doesn't help, you can recheck it.

and/or

This sometimes happens if Windows Update had some problems installing a download. Go to your Control Panel and turn off Automatic Updates and reboot. Go to the Microsoft website and download all windows updates from there. Once downloaded and installed, reboot your computer and you should be good. At that time, you can re-enable Automatic Updates.

Here's is what I have
Athlon XP 2500+
ASRock K7S8XE motherboard
1.5 GB of memory

My problem is that my computer will shut off unexpectly when ever I use or do the following:

-Use iTunes to rip a cd

-Use DVD decrypter to encode a movie that is already on my hard drive, the pc will shut down in the middle or near the of the procedure with no warning.

-Use a graphic progam to see the way a room will look after it is painted(Glidden Color Program) and use the magnify button

Use a map editor for a game (Sudden Strike II)

I've had the current configurations and hardware for about 2 years. This problem started about 3 months ago right after I updated the BIOS. I read that that I my motherboard should be capable of USB 2.0 which after the BIOS update it was. Unfortunately, my screen would freeze up and I would have to manually shut the pc off. That problem went away after I went back to the original BIOS version (I still have USB 2.0 working), but was replaced with my new problem replaced it

I reloaded my pc and with only XP installed and tried to see if I could encode a movie. It shut off again. I am stuck. The pc works fine otherwise. My power supply is about 1 year old and is 425 watts. One other thing, when the pc shuts off unexpectely, to get it back on, I have to unplug the power cord for about 10 seconds (I use the light from my mouse to determine when it is ready).

There are no indication of any problems in the event viewer or when the pc start... Read more

im no expert but 73c looks quite warm for a cpu - was that screenshot taken when the pc was idle or after doing some stuff with it. if it is 73c idle then you may have a problem with overheating. however i've never used an athlon xp so this maybe its normal running temp.

perhaps someone else here knows a bit more about athlon xp processors.

Hi everyone. I recently received a new laptop from my company. It is a Lenovo X61 running XP with IE 7.0 installed.

here's the problem. Say I am on a newspaper web site. I keep the main browser page open and right click to open a new tab to read a story. This is easier than opening up a story and having to go back to the main page after I read it. After the 7th or 8th time, IE just closes and anything I had in the tabs is gone.

It will also shut down unexpectedly after browsing thru 6 or 7 different web sites.

I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it but it does not fix the problem.

thanks in advance for help.

Last April, my computer started to shut off unexpectedly and without any warning at all. I would have to hold in the power button for about 30 seconds, let it off, and push it again and it would reboot. It did this for several weeks without warning. Before I knew it, it wouldn't even boot up again. I took it to a local computer guy, who checked it out and told me that the motherboard, hard drive and the memory were all "fried" and that I had to get all new. I did so.
Now, the same exact thing is happening AGAIN! I don't want my computer to "fry" again. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Could this be a cooling issue? I really don't know much about computers, and don't know if I have listed enough information, so please let me know if there is any other info you may need (and how to get it).

I have: an MSI Km2m Combo-L Motherboard (VIA KM266 Chipset)

I have an issue involving an HP 6300 Pro SFF that has been repeatedly and intermittently shutting down, even though several major components have been replaced and the PC has been reimaged.  I am wondering what I have missed and am seeking advice on what to try next.  Through Self-Maintainer and one-at-a-time we have replaced the motherboard, both RAM modules, the hard drive, and the Power Supply.  I have ordered but not yet installed a replacement CPU, even though it tests "Good" through the latest UEFI.   Interesting thing about the UEFI test for the motherboard, System board check states "Device not found", but Passes in the log file.  This result occurred in the original and the replacement motherboard.  I've also remediated in ways that we don't normally have to do, replacing the mouse, keyboard, AC cable, the surge supressor, moved the PC to different locations, tried different AC outlets, putting it on an UPS or not, cleaning the CPU and reapplying thermal paste, reseating the RAM, etc.  We have several thousand of these units in our enterprise and just this Wednesday, we received another call at another site where a 6300 Pro SFF was shutting down unexpectedly on the customer.  We were immediately directed by the OEM distributor on my unit to fix it through the Self Maintainer Process and that's what I've been attempting to do, but in this most recent case, I sent that one back to the OEM distri... Okay, so as the title says, my computer has been shutting down unexpectedly every once in a while. Like I will be in the middle of an application, downloading something, or just plain reading something on the internet and my computer will shut down. The monitor will go off completely, but my modem will have the green (on) light on and a constant yellow light which usually means it's processing something or opening a program. It really sucks. Like I have to unplug the power source and re-plug it in to turn my computer back on. I've tried virus scans but nothing comes up so I'm lost. And I'm not sure if it started before or after I connected my new external hard drive, but I'm thinking it was after.

Answer:Computer shuts down unexpectedly

Hello and Welcome to TSF

So it actually is not shutting down completely, you can hear the fans spinning and the hard drive has activity, is this correct?

Possibly overheating, open the case and take some canned air and blow out the dust bunnies. While you have the case open you can boot up the machine and physically look to make sure the fans are spinnning, esp the fan on the cpu

Find the manufacturer of your hard drive and run their Hard Drive Diagnostics Utility.

Look in the Device Manager for any conflicts, yellow question marks or exclamation points

Check the error messages by looking in the Event Viewer and post them back here (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer).

Hi! My T400 shuts down unexpectedly recently. I don't know what caused it -- this behavior just seemed to start randomly. I went from "Power Saver" to "Balanced," thinking it might be a power problem, but it still happens. Symptoms: One interesting sign is that when I close the lid while I'm plugged in, the moon (sleep) shows up like normal but not without the battery with the + sign still lit up. Then the moon light turns off, followed by the battery with the +. Then when you open the lid, the computer is off, so you have to turn it on again. This occurs less now, but the computer can shut down right while I'm using it. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could figure out why this occurs,Thanks!!!

I bought a new Dell laptop running Windows 7 Professional last Thursday.  It has shut down twice without warning.  When i start it back up, i get the "Windows didn't shut down normally" message after which it stays on for a couple days and shuts down again.  It just happened for the 2nd time this AM and i felt the bottom.  It doesn't feel hot.

I checked the event viewer and there were no messages of any failures just the "system shut down unexpectedly" message.

I have Windows Update set to NOT update automatically as i know that can sometimes force a restart.  However, in this case the computer didn't restart, it shut down without starting back up.

I ran sfc/scannow and it did find some corrupted files (on a brand new system??) and repaired them.

Attached is the excerpt of the cbs.log with the details on the repaired files.  Could that be the problem?  Any other ideas?  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:New laptop shuts down unexpectedly

Is it brand spanking new, refurbished, or new to you?
What most likely is causing your problem is an issue with the ac adapter and/or its connection into the laptop.

BTW; if it is a fresh install of Windows 7, you need to get about 200 updates that should not be postponed!  Go to Start -> Control Panel -> switch it to Large Icons -> Windows Update, and keep going back until it is done.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask about this, but I thought I'd give it a try. I bought an ASUS N56VJ laptop in February of this year, 2013. It has suddenly shut down six or seven times. This happens very randomly and with no pattern that I can see. It's not an overheating issue as I'm monitoring the temperature with ReatTempGT (and it often happens after only being on for a few minutes). I managed to find an error when I checked the event viewer that was from approximately the time that it happened. I'll post the information below. If anyone can explain what's going on I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

Have you uninstalled your Nvidia drivers?

Run the default windows drivers for a bit see if it stabilizes.

If all is good, then use a different Nvidia driver version.

My bluetooth shuts off unexpectedly when using headphones, commonly doesn't find paired devices unless turned off then on. I have LG HBS800 headset and when talking to someone the Blueooth turns off, and is completely gone from the system. Bluetooth mouse doesn't work, can't be turned back on as the system doesn't see it unless I restart the system from a complete power off. This is on a Y50 Touch UHD running the new drivers released 03/17/2015, it wouldn't run the headset at all before this update.

Can you try to turn off the power saving feature ("turn off this device to save power) of the bluetooth adapter from the Device Manager > Bluetooth and observe.

I am having problems with my desktop computer with Windows 7 32-bit home deluxe booting. I try to power it up and everything goes okay for a while. Eventually the windows logo comes up, but then the computer shuts down without warning. Once this happens, the computer seems mostly unresponsive to a restart using the power button. Press power on does something (some lights come on), but it doesn't even get to the Bios. I have to turn off the power supply then turn it back on. Then when I press power on, the computer tries to boot up again. A couple of days ago when this first happened, upon reboot Windows entered a "startup repair" process. After this, the computer was able to boot. However, trying to boot today is even worse. While Windows is running the startup repair and tries to boot, the computer does the shut down thing again.

I'm not sure if it's a heat issue, as I've tried to boot from room temperature. Mind you, I don't know how long it takes for things to heat up, maybe 30s is all that is needed?

What really confuses me is that I have to cycle the power supply in order to boot again. Maybe there is a simple explanation for that though.

During the startup repair I'm given the option to do a restore, so I'll try that next.

thanks

Answer:Booting shuts down unexpectedly

It sounds to me like your power supply or something that connects your motherboard/devices to your power supply is failing. If the computer can't receive power properly then that's definitely the problem. If all the other devices were booting yet certain devices weren't then it could be something else, but since it's everythnig it's probably the power supply.

Depending on what kind of computer you have and how many devices you have you will need a power supply of atleast 350-400 watts or more. If you've built your own computer you'll know what you need, if not, check the rating on your old power supply.

If you don't need anything more than 430 watts, one of these will do nicely:

I am running Windows XP with Plus! program added and have since the day it came out. Just recently a problem developed that is totally frustrating me. While online or off all of a sudden about 5 to 10 different programs or boxes will start springing up all over the screen out of control and then my computer freezes up and shuts down. It is almost like it is bouncing from item to item rapidly out of control. I have a Hewlett Packard Pavillion Model 6635 with a speed of around 500 and a hard drive of 10 GIG. I think I might have too many things that load up at startup but have no idea as to what I should delete or move or how. Thank you so much for any help you can send my way.

Hi woodstiff

Sorry for the delay in getting to you, the forum has been really busy lately and all our helpers are volunteers. Since it's been a few days since you last posted a log please follow these instructions if you still need help and I'll be happy to assist you.

Download Deckard's System Scanner to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.

Please attach extra.txt to your post.

To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box: C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

Hi

So this is happening more when you just leave the PC on and unattended? I'm just suspecting Sleep/Hibernation or one of the hardware devices and mainly either network or usb.

But do run through this guide http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35246 and "attach" in a text file the minidump log as mentioned as just want to see what the faulting file is.

*guide on how to attach a file is in that guide

Also do you have any yellow ! marks in device manager, if so what. If you have external devices (please name them, like printer, external hdd etc) , then unplug them and leave PC on to see if it crashes.

Hello everyone. I'm new here and this will be my first post on here. I'm sorry if I have started this post in a wrong thread. I'm unsure of where it should go. Anyways, I'm not a tech expert so that's why I here. I will try my best to describe my problem tho.

First of all, I have been having this problem since last week. The problem is that it just auto shut down on me without any warning.

I thought it was because its overheating/the cpu reached it limits hence why it auto shut, but thats probably not the case.

And since that happened I just thought to myself that I should just reinstall windows. Haha. I thought that would solve my problem. But it didn't.

This crash problem occured when I opened game. I also realised that it happen as well when I browse the internet using firefox. Like after I opened it for a few minutes it then shut down.

However, if I'm not opening anything else and just at the desktop and only transferring files for hours, the crash never happen unlike after I rebooted, went to firefox, then googling stuff and then poof, it crashed. I also checked the cpu too, but its not overworking itself. Its just chilling.... Oh, and I checked it from task manager.

I already tried uninstalling the nvidia drivers and went to surf the internet afterward. No crashes at all. I could watch youtube as well without having it crash on me. But when I reinstalled the driver back. It happened again.

So... I don't know really wha... Read more

I have an IBM thinkpad t30 laptop and all of the sudden it just started turning off unexpectedly. It started doing that a few weeks ago. It began doing it only when I'd use a processor intensive application but now it seems to be doing it at other random moments. I used to be sure it was just overheating but now I am not so sure since, like I said, it even turns off when I'm not doing something necessarily demanding for the cpu and it doesn't really feel that hot. When it shuts off it just does so without going through any motions, just in completely abrupt fashion. The only way I have figured out to turn it back on again is to unplug the power supply (from the computer), wait 5 or 10 seconds then switch it back on. It won't respond unless I unplug it first. Once it's back on I just plug the power supply back in. Anyway, I'd like to see of anyone here can help me diagnose the issue so I can see if it's something I can fix myself or if I'd need to get some expert to look at it. Thanks for any info.

First of all, do you have any files that you would like to save before we continue?

Do you have a vista installation disk with you; or a USB drive (for the virus removal attempt).

I have seeked help from HP and they say it is software related and that my insurance was only for hardware and that I have to pay a whole different bill to get it fixed. I would like to know if there is anyway to get this fixed without giving them more money?

Because Microsoft changed the way in Windows 8/8.1/10 that Windows Defender announces its status, and the TSG Sysinfo utility has not been accordingly modified.

The computer shuts down unexpecedly at least once every time it is used.  will not start again unless I plug it into the charger.   The battery is often fully charged when this happens.  Sometimes if I get it started quickly it will come back on with everything the way it was when it shut down.  Other times it boots up, and I have to log in and start it as usual.  If I happen to have it plugged in to the charger when I start it I do not have he problem.   Of course that is not ideal, I need for it to be portable as it is intended to be.  Any help would be appreciated.

Intel Core2 Duo T7500 @ 2.20 GHz My system has started shutting down at - seemingly - random times. I've been using my laptop to run MCMC simulations in MATLAB, which at times can take several days to complete executing. Additionally, I've had multiple instances of MATLAB running in an attempt to utilize 100% processing time to get results sooner. Obviously, doing this has caused more heat to be dissipated from the machine; however, I would think that as long as things are acting to spec, the system should be fine as far as heat is concerned, so perhaps, my activities arn't a factor in the error I'm reporting. Moreover, I have had the system shutdown when simply browsing the web with little processing power being used. Could this be software related, as its been a couple years since I've reinstalled my operating system?  Thanks.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 running winxp pro. Lately, the laptop has become extremely flaky. If the laptop is moved, jostled, repositioned, bumped, or even if the screen is tilted up or down, the screen will go black and the fan will start humming. It will always try to access the cd drive as well. It will not respond, so I have to manually turn it off.

Here's a couple of things that I know for sure:

It's not a heat issue, unless the sensor is out of whack.
It's not a software issue.
The battery is good.

Any ideas? Thanks so much for your input...

Hello,

I am having a problem with my computer shutting down randomly. I am an engineering student and I run CAD programs on my computer and it irritates me to no end when I am in the middle of working on something and it just shuts off. I talked to someone else about my problem and they said that the CPU is trying to pull too much power from the power supply and so it thinks that it is shorting out, so it shuts off. The only time that it ever shuts off on me is when I am using SolidWorks (CAD program). I keep my Task Manager window open so I can watch and see what it is doing before it shuts off and the CPU is running from 85-100% with only 990Mb of memory used. My computer is about a year old. It is a HP Pavilion dv4000 notebook and has a 1.6 Pentium M and 2Gb of RAM. I don't know what could be wrong. What can I do to fix this?

I plan on upgrading to a new computer hopefully this summer, but until then i need to fix this if possible. Aside from my problem of having to do all of my schoolwork more than 2 or 3 times, who would you recommend me buy a new computer from? I was thinking Dell or Sony... What do you think?

Thank you!

Answer:Computer Shuts Off Unexpectedly

hello & welcome to TSF,

first of all i need you to do this,

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

My printer always worked fine up until today. I was trying to print an email receipt when suddenly my computer shut down and restarted automatically. Then the pc said it was recovering from a serious error and that the problem was due to hardware or software issue and can cause loss of data (told me to back up my data). Scary! This is the first time I see this! Can anyone help me please? Thanks.

A couple of years ago I inherited my sons A20m laptop and I've been using it to play music from internet radio on Media player through a FM transmitter to my stereo. Lately it shuts down after about an hour, it re boots but down again. I've taken it apart to clean dust and checked the fan but to no avail. Its a A20m 2628  128 mgs Ram 6gb HDD of which I have 3.41 free, Windows 98 SE. Anyone know whats happening or is it time to give up on it. Thanks

Answer:My A20m shuts down unexpectedly

Welcome to the forum!I'm very partial towards A20m units, since that was the first ThinkPad I've ever owned...That being said, I would suspect that the motherboard is on its way out from what you're describing.Time to move on.Good luck.

Hi,i have a big problem with my laptop. After i replaced its motherboard which i bought it from China online,my laptop closes every 2 hours, but without like shutting down on the screen or anything,it just turns off.The guy who replaced the motherboard didn't installed a new windows after,he just replaced it and gave it to me like that.Another thing is that aparrently my hard drive is on 26% health, maybe this could be a reason? but before the new motherboard everything was fine. And now please i need some help because it drives me crazy every 2 hours .And everytime is 2 hours, like it has a timer or something inside and knows when those 2 hours passed.I'm thinking to buy a new hard drive to replace this one,to install a new windows and i'll see after. So any suggestions would help.Thank u

Answer:My Windows shuts down unexpectedly

Welcome to the forums droopy1986!

Well, gosh ,don't know where to start..............

1. You replaced the motherboard on the laptop. Are you 100% certain its the right one for your machine? Might explain the HD health thing. Is it a quality board and under warranty? Have you updated the BIO's on it?
2. I don't think a "new" windows will solve anything. A new INSTALLATION, as you say was done should have fixed any software ( O.S.) problems.

My brand new T410 has shut down twice unexpectedly with no warning whatsoever--there was no blue screen error at all. I haven't been able to find many other posts about the T410 having these problems--I have seen many posts about the T400 doing this--so I'm going to document my efforts at fixing this here in the hopes that it will help others. Some background on my system: I purchased my T410 about a month ago.    HARDWARE:   Intel Core i5-520m processor   4 GB of RAM   Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 5700MHD   250 gb 5400 rpm hard drive   9 cell battery   ThinkPad bgn Wireless   SOFTWARE:        As soon as I got the computer I uninstalled the Windows 7 base, and installed my own copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. I then installed all drivers through Windows Update. Context of when the problem occurred:    Both times I had been surfing the net for a few hours, not doing anything that would tax my system. I was connected to the internet wirelessly, was using the battery to power the system, but I had plenty of power left.

Answer:T410 Shuts down unexpectedly

The first thing I did to resolve the problem was google it. There were a few people that said incompatible drivers might cause an issue. I figured I was fine: I run Windows Update religiously, and so I should have all the updated drivers. I then contacted Lenovo Customer Support. I was told that I should install Thinkvantage System Update to see if there were drivers that needed to be installed. I installed it, and it found around five drivers that needed to be updated. I then updated them. That happened last night, and my computer has been running fine since. If I have any more problems, I'll be sure to post them here.
