Preferred Solution: Clean install Windows 7 T410 Hotkey (2537-AL8)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everybody, I am trying to set up the bluetooth to work on Windows 8. Funnily enough everything went smooth with Ubuntu 14.04.So I am 100% sure this laptop has bluetooth hardware. Still, on the support website there is driver for bluetooth. It says it should be included in Windows 8 but I can't find it.Nor I can find the proper device in my control panel. Any hint? Thank you all.

Answer:T410 2537 NQ6 bluetooth under Windows 8

Hello, Are you sure Windows 8 didn't install its native Bluetooth drivers? I've never had any problems with Bluetoothinstallation on any ThinkPads when either clean installing or upgrading to Windows 8. If you have the Thinkpad Hotkey Features Integration package installed, you can press FN+F5 to open upyour WiFi-Bluetooth window and enable the Bluetooth there. If not, the package is here: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 See if this doesn't resolve the issue. Cheers.

I have a thinkpad T410 (2537-DN1) and my original power adapter is seeing some wear and tear that I have temporarily fixed with some electrical tape. My adapter is currently a 60W/20V model. What I am wondering is that I still have an adapter from my old T60. It's a 90W/20V model. Can I safely use it on my T410? My research has found both yes and no suggestions but nothing solid. Ergo, I thought I would ask. Thanks in advance, kate

Answer:wwan card in thinkpad t410 2537-BA2

Hi, tejas08881

From what I can see, the card is not in your system by default, so you would have to procure one. The card for your system is the Gobi 2000 for worldwide use, as shown here in this KnowledgeBase article. The correct part number for it is 60Y3183 and you should be able to give Lenovo India a call at 1-800-3000-9990 to order one if you'd like. Just make sure that the WWAN card is Lenovo-branded, as other cards will not be recognized in the BIOS.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I am considering upgrading from Home Premium to Ulitmate, and I want to do a clean install to get rid of a lot of the added office, corel, norton, etc. programs installed on the lenovo factory disk image. I have looked around and I have not found any tutorials directly to do a clean install in windows 7... only vista and xp. Is it safe to assume that the vista one applies to windows 7 ? I know how to do clean install, im basically just worried about what drivers are needed, which ones arn't, and the order to install them in if any, etc. I know you can use the lenovo system update program to do this but the tutorials I am finding say its better to maually install them. Any help or suggestions. Thanks

Answer:T410 Win7 Clean Install

Can't help you with the clean install however there are some extremely useful pieces of software included by Lenovo, the most important being Rescue & Recovery. Which is one of the few windows backup programs that actually work. If you plan to install lots of software that need "activation" (i.e. windows itself, office, adobe whatever etc) then you absolutely need this one (unless you like spending hours on the phone explaining to Adobe customer support why you need to activate photoshop the 5th time in 2 weeks). Norton, Skype, Office and the like are NOT pre-installed at factory, you have only the installation kit there. You can install those that you like or delete all of them if you really need the space. Nap.

Answer:T410 can't find WiFI driver after clean W install

Hi,

You can probably figure out the exact card model by going to Device Manager and taking a look at the hardware IDs: Control Panel -> Device Manager -> select the wifi adapter -> Properties -> Details tab, Hardware IDs in the drop-down menu.

From your laptops details, I'd guess you have the ThinkPad bgn card:

i5-560M(3.20GHz) 2GB RAM 320GB 7200rpm HD 14.1in 1280x800 LCD Intel HD Graphics CDRW/DVDRW 802.11bgn wireless Modem 1Gb Ethernet UltraNav Secure Chip Camera 6c Li-Ion Win7 Pro 64

This ought to be the driver if my guess is right:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS000979

An easy way to go might be to install ThinkVantage System Update and run it.  It should find the drivers and software appropriate for your exact configuration: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS012808

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me with resolving the issues I'm having trying to install Win7Pro 64-BitI recently upgraded the memory on my Lenovo T410 Thinkpad from 4GB to 8GB under Windows 7 32-Bit but as I later found out that there wasn't a reliable hack to allow me to use the extra RAM so I decided to move all my files off the machine and then do a clean install of Windows 7 32-Bit.Unfortunately, I have had nothing but problems with the install, resulting in a BSOD every time. To give full details of what I have tried, see the list below:Downloaded a version of Win7Pro 64-Bit and created a bootable USB using Microsoft's bootable USB creation softwareTried to boot and install the softwareDownloaded another 2 different versions of Win7Pro 64-Bit for COA installs from the Microsoft website and created the bootable USB again with each of these and tried the installation again.Used the Rufus software to create the bootabe USB drive (version rufus-1.4.9) and this gave the same results.I also used the Novicorp WinToFlash 0.8.0009 software to create the bootable USB but this made no difference.I have tried deleting the other partitions on the hard drive when given the option in the initial stages of the Win7 64-Bit setup but this made no difference.I then created a UEFI bootable USB drive and tried this and this had the same issuesAll in, I think I have tried the install about 10 times and have never managed to get anywhere with it.ResultsThe furthest I have got with this is t... Finally decided to wipe my drive and reinstall windows.   PC has been working good but lately started acting strange with intermittent connectivity and the just yesterday all connected wifi devices lost their log info so that was odd.  Today when I rebooted this PC, I saw the original windows start up screen you'd see if during a fresh install or a restore and that's not right.  Finally I took at look at event viewer and saw a new NT user was added and I didn't do that so here we go again.   This time I suspect the vectors is a compromised Gateway which I have reset but will need to replace with better quality equipment than the junk Comcast is renting me.  This prompted me to run Farbar and come back to the forum for help.

Because I need to Register And create Microsoft account for each user then to verify the account. After that I need to Log with the account to the PC And then Download the update (3.5GB) And Install it.

Answer:NO Lenovo Windows 8.1 Recovery DVD for CLEAN INSTALL! + unable to Install UEFI MODE

Hi ohad, welcome to the forums,

I'm sorry to read about your experience.

I don't work for Lenovo but it would appear to me that something may have gone wrong at the sales / purchasing stage; to my knowledge the T431s is only available with Windows 7 preload, (with Win 8 recovery discs in some cases as you have), or with Windows 8 preload. A Win 8.1 preload doesn't appear to be available for the system, but I stand to be corrected on this.  If you required Windows 8.1, in my opinion the better option of the two, would have been a system with the Win 8 preinstall as this would only require updating to Win 8.1

Unfortunately I also can't envisage Lenovo creating a factory image for the T431s because it must be pretty near end of life.

Hi everyone, I have an x220t (4296-2WU) running Windows 7 on the stock 320gb HDD from Lenovo, bios v 1.33. I?ve just ordered a Crucial m4 128gb mSATA drive. I?d like to going from my current setup of: HDD = boot drive & data drive, with Windows 7 Pro 64 To: mSATA = boot drive, with clean install of Windows 8 Pro 64 from a MSDN .iso (with a legit MSDN key)HDD = wiped, then used as data drive I?d prefer to nuke all the content on my HDD from orbit during this process. I?m planning to do the following ? but I?m a bit unclear on a) whether the MSDN .iso + license key will allow a clean installation onto the bare mSATA drive, and b) whether the process below will allow me to make the SSD the boot drive while re-formatting the previous boot drive, the HDD: -Burn .iso from MSDN to bootable DVD-physically install the SSD-Boot to the installer DVD, format the HDD, install Windows 8 onto the SSD-Boot into clean Win8 install on the SSD, apply Windows updates, apply Lenovo System Updates Thanks for any thoughts or advice!

Answer:x220t: Install mSATA for boot drive & clean install of Windows 8?

I had a simliar desire but slightly diffferent solution. Been running Win8 betas since they were released last Winter on a 64gb mSata in a dual boot config. I wanted to start  fresh when Win8 Pro was officially released but with a larger mSata in my x220t. The weekend prior to release I backed everything up, installed a 256gb mSata and did a clean Windows 8 RP install on the mSata. Once the update was made available I booted from Win8, made the purchase and installed Win 8 Pro on the mSata.. Worked very well. No worries about trying a clean install from an upgrade OS purchase. Quick, clean and very functional. Plus I stll have a dual boot config until I am confident enough to wipe the Win7 OS from my HD. You should still be able to install Win8 RP through January.

Hi
I have looked through solutions for this issue, but the suggestions don't seem to fix my issue...

I am running Windows 7 SP1 Pro 64-bit on a Dell Optiplex 760, and try to do a clean install of Windows 10, using the ISO file which I downloaded from Microsoft & burnt on to a DVD, and instructions from the tutorial on here, which are very good. I downloaded the correct 64-bit version.

I boot from the DVD, enter my region (UK), and choose custom install, and then my hard drive does not show up on the list of where you would like to install. I have all my USB's unplugged (except keyboard/mouse).

I tried deleting my partions using MiniTool Partition Wizard (bootable DVD), so that the entire disk is unallocated. That didn't fix it. I also tried creating a new partition (NTFS) of the entire drive (to get one Primary NTFS partition). That didn't work. I also tried setting that partition as 'active'. The same.

Before formatting etc, I tried a boot from the Windows 7 install DVD, and the hard drive does show up, unlike the Windows 10 DVD.

Do you think it's an issue with the Windows 10 installer?

I downloaded another version of Win10 from the MS Tech Bench page, but same issue.

Answer:Windows 10 clean install - hard drive doesn't show up before install

Welcome toTenforums, Simon.

I am a little concerned that the Windows 10 setup program on DVD does not have drivers to properly see and interrogate the system on your PC so that the hard drive is visible. It's the second similar case on this forum that I've seen recently. You also seem to be trying to clean install on an empty PC - is this correct, because if you do so It will not activate.

Solved Can't install. possible partition error - Windows 10 Forums

After much to-ing and fro-ing, it was finally possible to *copy the Sources folder from the setup ISO file onto a partition on the hard drive, and run the setup from there, where it wasn't possible to boot from the DVD, even though it worked elsewhere.

If you still have Windows 7 installed (and you should do for Windows 10 activation purposes - if just to obtain a genuine ticket for digital entitlement), and you have the ISO download available, the solution is fairly simple. If you haven't you will need the Windows 7 key to activate the install.

You seem pretty PC savvy so, I'd ask you to follow the bolded instructions from the * in the 5th para above.

After formatting etc, during the Windows 10 boot, I tried another suggestion to open up Command Prompt (Shift + F10), and ran 'diskpart' - and no drives are found. I checked the Bios, and it was there.

Hello Everyone,

I did a clean install and on first use of Windows update the updates for some reason we're downloading and installing at a slow pace which I didn't recall in the past. Not sure if I'm having an issue on my end or not if it is on the side of Microsoft. Any fixes or solutions you might recommend I would appreciate it. Here is some nfo below.

Answer:After clean install, windows update slow to download install updates

I always keep the current cumulative update off line installer on hand and install it before going online. Also remember it is not just Windows updates you are also getting STORE updates in the background.

Let me start out by saying a clean install is the better way to go; however there may be some instances where a motherboard swap without having to reinstall is preferred. If you are like me and want to avoid all of the custom settings, shared drives, etc; then this option can save a LOT of time.
Recently I did this task on my own network storage system or home server. Some more modern parts became available to me for doing a build. Not only was the motherboard swapped, the system drive was cloned from an ide drive to a more modern sata drive. Here is how you go about swapping boards without a clean install.
This will work on both sata and ide type drives however if you have sata and the sata controller mode is set to AHCI or Raid, you may have problems. If your sata controller mode is set to ahci, you can attempt to swap to native ide in the system bios before beginning this task. If it boots using native ide, then you should be able to do the swap. If it does not boot when changing the controller mode, then you are out of luck.
The old motherboard was a NForce4 with a single core AMD FX-55. The new board was an Epox 945 intel chipset with a Pentium D 940. It does not get much more different than those two chipsets/cpus.

With the old board still installed, do the following. During this procedure, DO NOT reboot. Tell the system later for the reboot.

Hi,

I recently did a clean install of Vista Home Premium x32 and upon completion am unable to connect to the internet. I received the following error: "windows unable to install ethernet controller." Upon accessing Device Manager, I noticed yellow exclamation marks associated with my network controller. I have an Acer Aspire 5536-5224 notebook. Windows could not locate the drivers on the machine and I cannot connect to locate. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure where to begin searching for the driver! Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite C50 loaded with windows 8 but want to revert to windows 7.

I have downloaded the necessary drivers and have mounted the .exe files onto a USB pen for installation.

Before I proceed to wipe windows 8 I'd like to know - if I install 7, will my trackpad stop functioning?

If so, how do I install the relevant drivers from the USB pen?

Thanks, John

Answer:Clean install of windows 7 - how to install drivers from USB memory stick?

99.9% sure that W7 will identify the trackpad and install it. You just run the exe's using file explorer or Start >Run then browse. You may decide to leave the laptop as the W7 install left it but you should check Device Manager to ensure there are no unrecognised devices

This is what is happening. A friend gave me his DELL Inspririon 531 2007 Desktop. It has a pirated copy of 7 ultimate x64 (which I am not sure if this supports 64 bit). Prior to looking into how old the machine was, I was able to install 8.1 64 bit. But it wouldn't allow me to install any drivers from the DELL site. Said that the machine wasn't compatible. So, I tried with Windows 7 32 bit and I am getting this error. I have deleted all partitions, but now, I do not have that option when I choose Custom-advanced. There is no Delete option.

A few times I got the error at 5% other times at over 60%. What can I do to get this to install? It is a legit DVD of windows. Why would it have allowed 8.1 to successfully install now it is doing this? What files are missing? I have tried both deleting the partitions and not deleting. Same result.

I'm looking to buy a new laptop, seen a few models I like and they all come with windows 7 pre-installed. Problem is they all also come with a dozen or so pre-installed pieces of freeware/shareware/trial software that I have no use for and don't want and I would like to do a clean install of windows 7 when I buy to get rid of all these. How should I go about doing this?

I'll ask the vendors if they could provide me with some sort of recovery CD that will install the operating system and none of the junk but they might say no (I've done a bit of googling and have read they make money off including all these programmes). If they don't give me anything then could I get by with just purchasing an upgrade DVD even though I obviously won't be upgrading anything, just trying to go from bloated windows 7 to non-bloated version.

Thanks for help.

Answer:Clean install to replace existing windows 7 install

Hello Third Man, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can just uninstall the bloatware software that comes with the computer in "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel just like in Vista below. Otherwise you would have to purchase a separate retail copy of Windows 7 to do a clean install with, then install all of your drivers.

I've performed a clean install of Windows 7 on my X300 (6476CTO).  I downloaded and installed the Fingerprint Driver 5.9.2 for Windows 7 32-bit (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73583).  However, everytime I reboot I get a message that the Fingerprint Reader cannot access dll file vtapip.dll and the fingerprint registration fails.  What can I do to remedy this problem? I did notice on the readme that machines running less than the 5.6 version of the fingerprint software should upgrade to 5.6.2 before installing newer versions.  Does this include clean installs?  If so, where can I get the 5.6.2 driver?  I cannot currently locate it. Thanks,Mindy

I have the Windows 7 key for the netbook but I was not given an install disc when I bought it from the store.
I believe it originally had Windows 7 Premium home edition on it and I updated it to Windows 7 SP1 Premium Home Edition.

I am having many issues with the OS and wish to either do a repair or a clean install. I'd rather do a repair so as not to have to reinstall everything, but if a clean install is recommended I can do that instead.

How do I go about it, without an installation disc?

Answer:How do I repair or do a clean install with no Windows 7 install disc?

Hello and welcome Alicia now hopefully you have all your data backed up because what I am going to suggest will wipe it and reset the machine to as it came out of the factory because it will have a special recovery partition for just tis sort of situation..

See this https://lionpress.wordpress.com/2008...tory-settings/

The alternative is to get an ISO for the version you have from somewhere and use the orih=gianl code to activate it.

Another thing you can do is read through this as it will describe how you can use any Windows DVD - a friends or family members one just read it thoroughly if that is what you want to do but make sure you read the bit about the ei.cfg removal tool Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Answer:Can you install Lenovo software on a Windows 7 clean install?

Hi lespauldude, welcome to the forums,

in neither of your posts to date do you state which system you have.  That said, the short answer here is yes you can; you'll find when reading through trhe boards that quite a lot of members have "clean" installs on their systems.

If you backup the C:\SWTOOLS folder to other media you'll have all you need in the way of drivers and "extras" should ThinkVantage System Update not install something you might need like for instance DVD playing software.

I have a 4 core 64 bit HP laptop (pavilion) with a Radeon graphics card and 16 gig of ram.

I installed W10 over W7 from the laptop microsoft link when the free offer was available. I have two downloaded disks (burned from iso files), one with threshold 2 the other without.

I have tried booting from both these disks without success, the laptop just boots into the problem W10.
In the bios boot from CD is enabled but this makes no difference?

I'm sure I am missing something (maybe the disks are not configured properly but how do I find out?)
Does anyone know how I can get a clean install to work please?

I just got a new laptop, a Lenovo X230, for which I paid extra to have the OS on it as Windows 8 Pro.

So--now I have it, and Win 8 Pro 64 is installed and activated on it. I am a legal owner of Win 8 Pro.

However, I would like to do a clean install of Win 8 on the computer, to have it free of bloatware, etc. (In fact, I would like to set up a multi-boot with Win 7, and perhaps even triple boot with Xp as well. (I have installation media and my product keys for XP and 7 though, so those are not really a problem.)

The computer came with no discs at all. There is a procedure to make recovery disks. I may do that, but I think those will be to restore the computer to how it came from the factory, and therefore not usable for a clean install.

I don't see my product key for Win 8 anywhere. Not on the computer, not on any kind of card that came with it, etc.

I looked at the tutorial here for clean install of Windows 8, but it requires an install disc and product key. I have neither, although I am a legal owner of Windows 8.

Is there a way I can create (from my installed Windows 8) a win 8 install disk, that can be used for a clean install? Or a link to download one? Is there a way I can get my product key?

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Clean Install of Windows 8 without install disc?

You shouldn't need to enter a product key with an oem machine.

The recovery partition and discs will likely reinstall with all the crapware.

Hard to tell without looking at it. Dell recovery program used to offer an option to reinstall without crapware. Perhaps your oem does also.

Many would like to do a clean install as you describe. Not so easy with win8 oem pre install .

Maybe I have been to eager installing all the updates I could find on the Lenovo site. Maybe that's what broke it. At any rate, when I re-installed my operating system (I had to, because I screwed in an SSD instead of the standard hard disk), it installed without any problem. A pity though, that pushing the mute button twice will unmute. Back on the T42, pressing mute would always mute, even if mute was already active. Pretty handy when going to a meeting when you're not sure if the audio is on or not.

Hi

Why you don?t use the Toshiba Recovery CD???
The Toshiba image placed on the Recovery CD contains all drivers, tools and utilities which are needed to use all notebook features!!
After the OS installation from Recovery CD you don?t need to install any drivers!

One hint; your notebook seems to be a US model. It was designed only for the US market and I presume all compatible drivers and tools must be downloaded and installed from the Toshiba US site!!!
I think you have searched and downloaded the drivers from the Toshiba European site. Am I right??

I think many people would be able to help you but without any details about your notebook, it?s very difficult to say what driver could help you?

However, the Toshiba driver page should provide all necessary drivers and utilities.
If you want to use all notebook features you should install all available drivers.

VAP is definitely working with Vista.

As far as I know firstly you have to install the driver for Toshiba Display Devices Change Utility.
It?s a Display Device Change version 1.1.0.0 and then you can install the Hotkey Utilitys for Display Devices version 2.2.0.0.

Just installed XP on my brother's Toshiba Satellite L305-S5919 and got all the drivers installed except the hotkey driver. Every time the setup starts I get an error saying "TOSHIBA Common Module not found! This setup will terminate."I've looked for another driver for them but can't seem to find any driver other than the one on the Toshiba website. If anyone could find a solution to this I'd appreciate it. I made sure I typed in the right model number every time.

At the end of last year we purchased just over 330 T410 laptops. In 6 months we have had 13 with cracked LCDs. I can say that 2 where caused by the users. Pen left on one units keyboard and there was a dropped unit with scratches on the corner were visible. If this continues we will end up with 26 units per year getting mysterious cracke. We did not experience these problems with the Dell D620/D630 series we had for 4 years prior to the T410.  One of our users claimed that the support tech at IBM told him that the LCDs could not support high temperature variations. No details as to what these variations are. We are nationwide so each area will have a variety of temps.  I remember back about 4 years ago watching live demos by IBM reps that would stand on the laptops and pour water in the keyboard. The units looked tough. Has something changed? The specs looked reallty good when we were comparing manufacturers last year.   Anybody else experiencing a high failure rate of unexplainable cracked LCDs ?Thanks

Dear Lenovo, dear x220-engineers, after three years of staying with a *insert-name-of-a-popular-u.s-it-brand* notebook I have the desperate need to upgrade to a new, ultra portable device. Gladly this coincides perfectly with the release of x220. Besides perfect display, perfect weigth and perfect price there is one thing bugging me... There are numerous reports of the standard-cpus creating lot of heat and thus prompting also fan noise. Personally I would prefer a slightly less powerful CPU like the low voltage i5-2537 over the standard ones. These ones are stated to have half the TPD as standard ones. Therefore I would like to know, can we expect x220 variants with these lv-cpus? Possibly also as university-model? Thanks in advance.

Answer:When will we see X220 with Low-Voltage CPU, e.g. i5-2537

Heh. I don't think Lenovo Forums censors other brands names. (Apple, Asus, Acer, Dell, Gateway, HP, SONY, Toshiba)The X220 fan issues might be an issue not necessarily related to the heat of a full power CPU. Probably want to stay tuned to the X220 fan thread. Can't remember if anyone reported egregious thermal output on the X220.

Hi Everyone, Here's the deal; some B590s were purchased for my office.  They came with Win 7 Home, we needed Pro, and Windows wouldn't allow a direct upgrade so we did a wipe of the main partition (the Lenovo recovery partition is still present) and did a fresh install. After some tweaking I got the Ethernet connection working successfully, but I've been unable to get the wireless internet to work.  Or the hotkeys on the laptop.  I've installed the drivers on the b590 drivers page and haven't had any success.  Can anyone offer any assistance? Matt

I recommend imaging the windows 7 system using acronis or some other imaging software. Then doing the upgrade activating then reverting back to the image.

Lets say you already wiped it out and did a clean install. there is no way that I no to go back to windows 7 without a windows 7 key. There are downgrade right but they still require a key (I know it's stupid).

I have Windows 7 activated on 2 computers. I have run the Media Creation Tool and created a USB (bootable I think) to install Windows 10. The computers have small SSD's that are almost full. I would like to first replace the SSD with a new larger one, then install Windows 10 using the USB stick that I loaded with the Media Creation Tool.
I think I have read that it is now possible to use a Win7 product key (which I have for each computer) when installing Win10. I have also read that the Media Creation Tool loads Win10-build 1511, which is not the latest. I don't know if that build will accept the Win7 product key when doing a clean install.
Can I accomplish the SSD replacement and a clean Win10 install without first installing Win7 onto the new SSD's?

My Hdd died and i bought a new one Dell supplied me with a Vista disk so that this could be loaded before using my W7 upgrade disk. I installed both fine and ran system image restore. I then realised that one of the problems I had before, i.e. SP1 wouldn't install still, so I decided to do it all again before making sure that I had all the updates before backing up old files (which I decided to do selectively instead of restoring a full image. This time, W7 hung and wouldnt fully install. I never got as far as putting in my product code. I then tried to do a clean install from the upgrade disk (as described above) and several times I have failed.
Please could I have any suggestions?

Answer:Clean install Windows 7

I'm sorry Dell wasted so much of your valuable time reinstalling Vista and not providing you with the necessary Win7 installer with SP1 to save hours of updating.

Everything you need including the latest official installer is here to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

In your case you would normally leave the Product Key blank during install, then afterwards use Option Three or Four here to activate Upgrade version on a new or wiped HD: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version. These workarounds were designed with your situation in mind, to save all of the trouble Dell caused you.

However if either OS is still on the HD, then when you boot to reinstall with the latest 7 installer it will likely allow you to use the Upgrade Key up front since the installer will see an underlying OS and not a blank HD.

I just got a brand new lenovo laptop with Windows 10 Pro, pre-installed at delivery. This is the first time I have considered a clean install to remove any unwanted bloatware or software. But after some research I can't tell if it is necessary? I have no data on this machine yet so I am willing to try.

So far, I have created a USB recovery drive, system image backup, and system repair disk before doing anything else. Then I ran bloatware removal software and found nothing critical on my new laptop, except for some software which I can easily uninstall myself. So my questions are:

1) Since there is not much unwanted software, should I even bother with a clean install?

2) If I make a mistake, will I be able to restore the computer to its current state by recovering the system image I just created?

3) Will a clean install remove all the software which I might like to keep (such as Lenovo power management)? Will I have the option to reinstall whichever Lenovo software I want? I think it might be tedious to re-install drivers for the built-in smart card reader, fingerprint reader, etc.

4) Is a clean install as simple as a "reset" of Windows 10? Or will this just restore it to the state as it was when I took it out of the box?

Thanks for any advice, as this is the first time I have ever considered re-installing the operating system on a new computer.

Using steps posted by Admin "Brink" Im trying to do a clean install of windows 8 on a desk top computer that had a crash (virus) and then was recovered to factory settings with out doing a back up first. The original OS was windows 7 64bit. The computer is a HP Pavillion a4316f-b, AMD Aflon II 620 Quad core 6GB DDR3 system memory, 1 Terabyte hard drive, Nivdia Geforce 9100 graphics. I dont understand a lot of computer lingo so please bear with me. A Staples computer tech sold me windows 8 Pro and said to do a clean install and that should bring the computer back to life. However I am having problems, I get through steps 1 through 9 in your tutorial and after step 9 the computer restarts but it goes to the HP blue screen with the choices "Esc=boot" "F11 recover" and so on... and just hangs there untill the monitor goes to sleep and the computer shuts down. I restart the computer but it seems to be doing install all over again which takes 20 to 40 min. Why cant I get to step 10? And if I may ask a silly question? During the installation of windows 8 there is no antivirus software in the computer, should I be installing windows 8 with the computer disconnected from the internet?
Thanks for any help.

Hi

Please advise what is the best method of carrying out a clean install of windows 10;

1: Go to the Microsoft Windows 10 download site and download an image to a USB

2: Via system and settings / recovery mode. There are two sections, Recovery and Advanced Start-up

I have malware on my PC and I believe a clean install would be the best option to remove

Thanks in advance

Does your computer have a DVD drive?

If it does, go here:

Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River

and download an ISO file of the EXACT same version of Windows you now have.

Burn that ISO file to a blank DVD. That will be your installation disc.

Back up any personal files that are now on the PC.

Boot from that burned disk and install Windows 7 from it. Activate the installation with the 25 character "Product Key" that you should see on a sticker on your HP PC.

Don't bother doing this if you do not have the Product Key.

You could instead use the recovery partition on your HP to restore to factory condition, but that would NOT be a clean install and would NOT require you to use the Product Key.

Hello I am trying to get a clean install of Windows 7 on my new SSD. I disconnected my old hard drive, placed the DVD in, pressed any key, got the download bar saying windows etc etc. When the download bar finishes I get to the screen that is shown on step 3. Thing is I only see the background and my mouse, I dont get the install windows box. Then after a few seconds my computer reboots to the download bar and the process goes on infinitely.

Could this possibly be due to me being connected through an Nvidia card? Being that Im running only the empty ssd and not the hard drive with the graphics card installed on it that maybe there is a graphical glitch?

OR is it possibly due to me not setting up the SSD properly? I have assigned the SSD a spot, but I am unsure if I need to go through more steps. Thank you guys in advance

Hello,

Thank you for reading and helping. I have a HP G72-250us laptop. I upgraded to windows 10 and about a month later my HDD failed. I have purchased and installed a new HDD but I need to reinstall windows 7 home premium (don't want to go back to 10 yet), and like a big dummie I can't find my original recovery disc. I have a valid key. Where can I find a ISO? Microsoft will not help because it was installed by HP and HP said I am outside of my 1 year warranty and want to charge me for a new copy/support. I also don't know if I had 32 or 64 bit. I do have a dell windows 7 professional-64bit disc (from my work computer) will that work?

Thank you again, let me know if you need any more info I left out.

Answer:clean install of windows 7

Hi Howard There's only two legal ways to obtain Windows .iso: via the Microsoft Software Recovery Center website, which requires a Windows retail product key to get the .iso you need and by contacting your laptop/computer manufacturer and request an installation or recovery media (depends which one is applicable). This being said, any other method of obtaining a Windows 7 .iso is not legal and cannot be discussed nor proposed here. Right now, your product key is an OEM one so you'll have to contact HP for a new installation media and if you're out of your warranty, you'll have to pay.Sorry.On a side note, you cannot use a Windows 7 Professional CD to install Windows 7 Home Premium. You really need an installation media for the version and edition of Windows that you need. Also I'm pretty sure you had Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on that laptop based on the specs.

*Note* I am reposting b/c I think I posted in the wrong forum before..  Hi - hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I am attempting to do a clean install of Windows 7 on a Lenovo G560.  The machine was purchased at Office Max (or something like that) and they made the recovery disks for us.  Now, a few years later, I would like to format the HD and start anew. I did some background checking on this since I'm not really a computer guy, but it seemed straightforward enough.  I copied everything that I wanted to keep and made sure that the CD/DVD drive was the first to boot.  Once I turned the machine on, the CD (#1/2) booted and it the "OneKey Recovery" system took over.  It asked me which drive I wanted to format (or was it rescue?) and I said OK.  Either way, I was asked if I wanted restore the factor default settings, to which I agreed.  The problem is this:  Once the process is underway, it gets about 12% of the way completed and then I get a message that states that there was "failure to access files" or something like that.  This always happens when the current file is G:/backup.wsi. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?  Any help that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,

Since you are getting error while installing from recovery DVD , it could be the files are not copied properly while the recovery media was created or media has developed some errors
I would suggest you to contact lenovo support team to get a set of recovery media which will be of some cost

Do give this a try and let us know

why don't you just clean up and start fresh the normal way. You seem to be drastically over complicating this. Have a look here to get your drive cleaned up, it needs to be wiped after all that partitioning madness.

So I bought windows 8 this morning. I had to leave for work before it finished installing. I get back and its asking for my PC name and everything. I look and see it did not format my hard drive. I want a clean install so I need that formatted. How do I download the Windows 8 Pro .ISO so I can make a bootable USB or media device?

Then boot from that to completely wipe your disk and reformat, make sure you have your key for when you start the installation. If you have a Windows Live account use that. Make sure you feel comfortable doing this and have anything you need backed up, this worked for me, I hope it works for you.

Hi all - I upgraded my pc last year when the upgrade was free but I need to do a clean install as my kids have totally pooched my system with malware & viruses... those have been cleaned off/out but it's still running real slow. My concern is I don't have a CD key as it was free. I've already downloaded the tool to do a clean install and burned the image onto a dvd... will the installation ask me for a CD Key after it finishes loading the initial files? And if it does ask for a key, how do I respond? Do I just enter my Windows 7 Pro CD key number?

Answer:Clean Install Windows 10 - CD Key

You can (and probably should) try your Windows 7 key first and foremost. If that doesn't work, you should be able to get through installation (but not activation) by using whichever of these so-called "generic keys" matches the version you're installing:

Hello,

My Laptop ( ASUS K55VD ) came with windows 8 pre-installed.

Now I want to install a Samsung EVO 840 250gb/500gb SSD, now I run a 750gb HDD which i split into 2 partitions which have a total of around 140gb used. But I can transfer stuff to an external HDD if needed. After I install the SSD I want to use my current HDD as an external HDD by buying a enclosure for it of course.

My main question is: What do I have to do to install Win8 clean on the SSD for optimal use? I don't know if I am on OEM, currently at work
Thanks in advance
