Occasionally T440 starts only with AC plugged in / but not on battery only

Question: Occasionally T440 starts only with AC plugged in / but not on battery only

Hello The subject of this message says it all. When I want to start my T440 without AC power, it happens quite often that the machine will not start at all - no lights, nothing. In such a case I am forced to plug in AC power just for 1 second, hit the power button and then my T440 will start. Sometimes it starts without AC power, but then again sometimes it does not. it seems random. Note: I am not talking about resuming from hibernation or etc, I am talking about a new, fresh start.I searched the internet in detail for a solution, but no result to my problem. Of course I read from other users having problems starting up their T440, but never exactly the same problem. My battery lasts for a couple of hours. What to do? I am in Myanmar, far away from support. I tried many things already, including taking batteries out, start, turn off, start again.... Many thanks for your help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Dell Inspiron 15 does not start up when I power it on while it’s connected to the charger. The screen does not turn on and the laptop starts beeping.. 3 continuous beeps with a pause in between. Then, i turn off the charger and switch on the laptop on battery power, and it starts normally. Is it due to a faulty charger ? or is it due to a motherboard error?

Answer:Why does Dell Inspiron 15 screen not start up when charger is plugged-in, but starts normally on battery power?

Hi
I've a two week old PC with Windows 7 64 bit pro. 7 times in last two weeks it has crashed when I;ve powered it on and entered Start up repair and then System restore after which it works ok. Nothing seems to cause it. In Event viewer it shows as Kernel Power id 41 Event 63.

Supplier is saying after expensive phone call it is a software problem and I should reinstall operating system. Seems drastic and time consuming. Any Ideas anyone??

Thanks

Sometimes when my mom logs on her computer, it brings up the old desktop, without the default icons and the default screen saver "Dell" engraved into stone. It still says her name as the user account, but everything is different. I was wondering why this might be, when we restart it there is no problem, but I am just curious if anyone could answer why and how to prevent it from happening.

Thanks!

Dell XPS XPS710Intel Core 2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHzMemory RAM 4.00 GBWindows Vista Ultimate 32-bit Operating SystemSP 1NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTXHi allHere?s the problemAbout a month ago the machine started to sporadically remain ?asleep? when I pressed the power button to turn it on. I would shut down as usual but getting the machine to start again has become increasingly hit and miss.Sometimes when I try to start the computer it starts OK. Sometimes it just starts flashing an amber light; when I press the power button again the amber light stops, and then starts up again when the power button is pressed a third time.Sometimes the computer does not start for two or three days. And sometime it starts after a few hours. After pressing the power button I either get the slowly blinking amber light or (occasionally but not often) the machine actually starts. It seems as if it is waiting to be woken up by something, but I have tried all keyboard key, moving the mouse, and of course trying the power switch. There is no activity apart from the yellow light. The fan does not start, the drives are not activated and the machine is completely silentHere is (possibly) the solution? So?I?ve been advised that the power supply is faulty. Is it relatively easy to acquire the power supply for an XPS710?Is replacing the power supply a complex thing to attempt?(I?ve looked beneath the cover and replaced graphics cards but am not an expert)Any advice would be much appreciated.ThanksAndrew308

Answer:Vista only occasionally starts - power supply fault?

80% chance its your power supply.Either its not sending out the required power, or it is not operating at all correctly. Changing a power supply is very complicated if your new to pc's.You have to know where everything goes, and one wrong mistake could wipe out an entire component. In my opinion i would suggest you get it looked at by a professional, seeing as the computer hope forum, can't do as much as look inside your pc and help you change your power supply.Power supplies range from 50-200 for a reasonable one. You will need to find the right one for your computer power requirements too. This is why its best you find a friend, or take your pc to a computer store.

Does it turn on? Sometimes if you run completely out of power it takes a few hours for it to get to 1% charged.Did you order your T440 with an internal battery? It's an optional component.Has your webcam ever worked?

Hi,
My E5450 loosing its bluetooth adapter occasionally. It happening suddenly during normal use, bluetooth adapter start turning on/off rapidly. Normal restart doesn't help, after restarting it still resumes blinking on and off. Turning laptop off from start menu and then back on from power button sometimes fixes the problem but not always. The only thing which fixes the problem is keeping power button pressed for 4 sec until laptop turns off and then turning on again. Then bluetooth works well until next time it starts blinking. I added also a brief video of Windows desktop when it blinking. Everything else (WLAN, LAN etc) working normally. Preload diagnostics doesn't find errors.
Laptop: Latitude E5450 bios A13 (06J17N; FRL8062)
OS: Windows 10 Pro v. 1511 b. 10586.753
WLAN+Bluetooth adapter: Intel 7265NGW
Any suggestions, what should I do?

Things have been good with my Yoga 3 pro until this weekend. Battery life was a good 5-6 hours, but after a recent windows update it appears the battery will no longer charge. It shows plugged in and charging and shows increasing charge but after un plugging it will dim the screen as if it's in power save and then die within 10-15 minutes. I reverted to before the update but that did not solve the problem. It happened all of a sudden so I assumed it was related to the update. Please help, love the machine but this makes it unusable.

Hi, all. I have had my Ideapad P400 for a few years now and i have never encountered a problem like this one. I just recently upgraded to Windows 10, which i actually like a lot, and all of a sudden, my battery says "plugged in, not charging." It will only charge up to 59% and it dies very quickly. I thought it was the battery, so i bought a replacement and installed it. It did the same exact thing. I've tried doing a battery reset in the energy management window, i have tried downgrading to windows 8 again, and i have tried looking up different firmware updates that could potentially fix the problem, but nothing. If anyone has any idea on how to fix this problem of mine, i greatly appreciate it. This is really my last shot before i have to take it in to be repaaired. Thanks! -Frank C. (P.S. This is my first time posting in any forum, so i hope i didnt leave anything out.)

Hi all, recently I bought Lenovo t440. How long should last battery (s) in this laptop in normal or power saving use with screen at 65-80 %? I know this laptop have two batteries , and both of them are 3 cell right ? Extended battery have 6 cell, which I don't have, but might I would  buy it . I noticed my both batteries last max 3,5 hours max 4. This is from I what know - slightly short.  Before I buy some of this batteries I would like to know which one is maybe fault, or worst of them. Maybe is faulty inside battery, maybe plug in one.  My battery indicator in win 8.1 shows both bAtteries ... It seems windows recognize capacity or remaining storage from both of batteries in same time,or, should I say, it seems my laptop is running on power from both of them in real time... Maybe laptop should drain batteries one by one ? Ok, if this is normal, let's skip it     main question is still, how to check each batterie health / or one by one in mY T440  to see which one is maybe faulty or less good, for potential replacement ?   thank you all

The other night I was working on my T440 and all of a sudden the screen flashed and powered off. At the very last moment I seen a critically low battery error. I immediately plugged it ina nd tried to power on again, I got to the splash screen, then it flashed the battery error again and shutdown. I ordered a Lenovo battery of the same exact size brand new installed it and now I am not getting anything. I allowed the unit to charge while plugged in for a little while and still nothing. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T440 and the batteries are showing battery error in the Power Manager. I am unable to update my BIOS to see if that will solve it and my batteries don't seem to be eligible for a Firmware update. My Warranty is also expired. Anyone have any suggestions? error is showing up on both batteries  (Front internal and rear removable). Laptop works fine when plugged in but will not power on if it does not have a charger connected. Batteries don't charge at all (With or without it being powered on) All suggestions welcome. Would prefer not to have to get a new battery set as these ones are relatively new and shouldn't be throwing this error. I do not have a spare Thinkpad I can test the batteries in or that I can test a known good battery from.

Hi, recently i bought from ebay an thinkpad t440 20B7-S0FV11 i5 4300u with 8Gb of RAM and 500Gb hdd. This laptop came without front battery (internal), it just came with the external one so i bought one internal battery on the internet and put it myself on my laptop.I press the reset button on the button of the laptop and turn it on.The issue is that windows (and also ubuntu) didn't recognize the battery. Windows say: "battery not detected"!I already update BIOS and everything and the battery still not detected.Initially, i thought that the battery was damaged but i charged it directly from the external battery, plug it inside of my laptop and turn it on. The laptop still not recognized the battery (and did not charge it neither), and windows says: Battery not detected! But the laptop work without external battery and charger, just with internal battery! (despite that not charging or detected) So i thought that the lithium cells are probably ok.I want to know if it's a battery problem, some lenovo firmware on battery (since battery came from china) or some problem with laptop!Thank you all.(sorry for my english)

I have a T440 laptop that suddenly decided it's having an error with the internal battery that shipped with the system (which is a genuine battery, has not been touched/removed and was working fine until this morning).  The error displaying is: "The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge. Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system." I updated to the atest BIOS a few weeks ago, have the latest Power Manager and Power Manager driver as of a few days ago. External/removable battery is fine. Answer:T440 external battery not charging

Hi Valdemar_d,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with External battery not charging on your ThinkPad T440.

The problem you are running into is Power Manager conflicting with the 80% BIOS threshold.  So to avoid this, either keeps the Power Manager threshold for both batteries below 80%, or else both batteries above 80%.

Hope this helps.

I have a Latitude 7480, a few months old.
A little while ago I woke it up in the morning, used it for a few hours, and then noticed that the battery was nearly dead. Strange, the charger was plugged in - but the battery icon wasn't showing it as plugged in.
Perhaps the charger has died? So I tried another one, which had also previously worked - nothing. The light on the plug was on but the 7480 refused to acknowledge it being plugged in. My previous laptop (E6530) was quite happy to use either, however.
N.B. no yellow warning on the Windows battery icon - no indication of the adapter being incompatible, no "plugged in not charging" - just refused to acknowledge it.
Tried the usual (reboot; shut down, wait, reboot) - still nothing.
In the end I took the bottom cover off, unplugged the battery (one of the many annoyances of this machine being that the battery is inaccessible except by taking the cover off), plugged it back in, and started up - all was fine once more.
So I wrote it off as a one-off; but now it has happened again. Luckily in both cases I had a suitable screwdriver to hand, but I can't guarantee that will always be the case.
Is there a proper fix for this?

Hi there,  I have recently acquired an T440 [Type 20b6] and everything was working fine until I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro (Three days ago). I initially had some issues which I resolved, however I am unable to resolve the issue with "Battery 1" not charging. It is staying at "0% and not charging". I have tried the following; - Upgrading the Lenovo Power Management  driver to 1.67.13.12 - Removal of the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" driver- Removing the battery and charging it in a Windows 7 machine (works fine) - BIOS/UEFI upgrade to GJET92WW 2.42- Removing the external battery and charging "Battery 1" on its own using Windows 10- I know the hardware is fine because it was charging under Windows 7 I'll appreciate any tips on how I can resolve this issue,  Thanks, XX00A1

Hello forum, I bought a like-new T440 last week (500 GB+16 GB, 8 GB RAM, i5) & my experience so far has not been good at all. I am a student on budget & I got it to replace my failing 5-yr old atom powered netbook. I don't really care about other widely reported problems with this model like the button-less keypad. But the 1600x900 TN screen is so bad when compared to my old netbook's screen that I can't believe how Lenovo got away by putting this screen in an ultrabook.  There are other issues that have been bugging me and I need some help: 1. The brightness keys stop working after a while (for example, after waking the laptop from hibernation). They will not work until I restart the system again. Is there any way to resolve this issue? 2. The Access connections also stops working after a while and shows that I am not connected to the net even when I am online. How can I fix this problem? Or is it safe to turn off access connections & just rely on Windows network and sharing center? 3. The battery life is abysmal. With minimum brightness and mainly word-processing work and occasional youtube video streaming, I am getting less than 4 hrs. Is this normal? I use the "High energy savings option" & lenovo turbo boost diable option while on battery. I have a 3cell + 3 cell (48 Wh total). I?m sorry to hear that you are facing battery issues in your Lenovo ThinkPad SL500.

I would suggest you to follow the below troubleshooting steps.

Go to control panel -> Device manager. Under batteries tab, uninstall Microsoft ACPI Compliant control method battery, restart the system and check if battery charges properly.

If the above said didn?t help, shutdown, unplug AC and remove battery. Press and hold power button for several seconds. Then re-install battery and AC, restart and see.

Update BIOS to the latest level.

Please post back with the results!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I have an XPS 9550 6th Gen running Windows 10 (Just over 1 year, out of warranty).
The issue is when the charge plug is plugged in and hovering over the battery icon it says that battery is charging.  However the battery is not charging but discharging until the laptop switches off.  The only way for the battery to charge again is to deplete the battery until the laptop is unresponsive when the power button is pushed to switch lap top on.  Once there is no residual power in the battery it will start charging again to 100% after which the cycle repeats, discharge.
Things I have tried.
Latest Bios update - no change
Another A/C charger - worked ok for a few days
Replaced battery - no change
Bios settings - reset to default (info related to battery and A/C charge reports all good)
F12 - Dell diagnostics, reports all good
When Battery is disconnected the laptop works normally
The laptop charge socket seems tight and secure
I have searched the internet exhaustively but have not found this same issue reported.  The only feasible way I can use the laptop is to disconnect the battery.
Can anyone suggest anything?
I would also like to disable the battery instead of having to open it up to disconnect, is this possible?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks
Andrew

My computer switch itself on every time the power cable is plugged or when power went off and comes back without me touching the power button. It even wakes me up from sleep when it suddenly starts in the middle of the night!!!

Answer:My Computer starts when Power is plugged

Have you been messing with the BIOS settings? Check the Power Management menu. Each BIOS is a little different but there should be a setting related to Power Failure. For example, in the following BIOS menu it's called "AC Power Loss Restart". It should be disabled but you may have it enabled.http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2005...

Hello there,

I am trying to troubleshoot the netbook of a friend. It is an ASUS Eee PC 1005HA with Windows XP. The problem: the netbook starts up everytime it is plugged in to recharge. I checked the BIOS and did not find an option which could be responsible for this. I even reverted the BIOS to factory settings without any luck.

What could cause this? Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Thank you in advance

Ever since yesterday I've had this problem, I tried several solutions and none of them worked. Basically the problem is: The laptop only works on battery now. When the battery is at 0% the laptop turns off even if the AC is plugged in. To make matters worse, when the laptop is on I get this message "plugged, not charging". So basically the AC no longer works by itself and only charges the battery when the laptop is off. Here is what I tried so far:- Changing the settings on the Lenovo Energy Mangement tool- Uninstalling the Lenovo Energy Mangement tool - Taking off the battery and AC, pushing the power button for 30 seconds, putting them back in and turning on the laptop.- Starting the laptop on safe mode- Praying to God None of these things worked. Somebody help.

Hi,I have an IBM T60, my battery works fine. Lost an hour of battery life from when it was first bought, but that's not the issue. When I plug in my charger sometimes (most times), I check the battery thing in the taskbar and it says "Plugged in, not charging". I worked out how to resolve this by taking my battery out, leaving it out, while the laptop is plugged in, and then putting it back in Sometimes I get home from school and the battery is at 20%, I just charge it over night, or think i am, and it doesn't. That's the issue, I don't realise it!  please help. Thankyou.

Answer:T60 Battery ; Plugged in, not charging, I get it to work eventually, but it can drain my battery!!

Oh, and another thing. This happens to my brother aswell (also owns a T60); the laptop would be working fine, until it decides to give us a black screen. Only way out of this is to put it to sleep, and wake it up again. Nothing in particular starts this issue. Thanks

I have this HP Pavilion a450n that I had sitting around for a while because of a problem that I don't know how to fix and I forgot how it happened. When I plug this computer up, it immediately starts running but there is no display on the monitor. I can't cut it off by pressing power button so I have to unplug it. The computer runs strong (as in the fan blows kind of hard) when I plug it up and if keep it plugged up, it'll keep blowing that hard. Any ideas of what could be wrong and how I can fix it ?

Hello there,

Let me try to resume the situation clearly enough.

Product : Toshiba Satellite A110-149

Works fine on AC adapter (just a resume from standby issue but that's because of Gentoo Linux, this used to work under Windows XP)

Original battery was dead. Not only didn't it charge but with both this battery and the AC adapter absolutly nothing happened, not a single LED on. No need to mention I couldn't turn the comp on.

Bought a new battery at AboutBatteries.com
- Replace: PA3465U-1BRS | 10.8V | 6600mAh (71Wh)

With this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged I have the power green led and the orange charging led on. But even after 8 hours and computer off the battery hasn't charged.
If I try to turn the comp on with this new battery in and the AC adapter plugged in it starts running but after a while it shuts down automatically, not matter wether I boot or enter BIOS.

BIOS is Phoenix v1.50 and I reset settings to default.
By the way, downloaded the last OS independent 1.70-WIN (bios-20090121162419.zip) but is there a way to update it without Windows?

I've tried to unplugged everything and press the power button several times (last try i kept pressing for more than 2 minutes for what that matters)

I've clean the contacts with alcohol.

Could this be because of a fuse or capacitor I could replace myself or something?

Any help would be appreciate.

Regards,
Charly

Answer:Satellite A110 Battery won't charge & won't run if battery is plugged in

Hi

I?m not quite sure what happened to the notebook but first of all you should know that notebook should power up and should run properly if the AC adaptor is connected.
The battery isn?t necessary in order to power up the unit if the AC adaptor provide the power to the notebook.

So if ONLY the battery would be affected, the unit should still run at mains.

Therefore I think its an serious hardware issue? for example motherboard problem.

My battery all of a sudden won't charge. The computer works with remaining battery (when AC is not plugged in). The computer works with the battery removed when plugged in. But if battery is in and the computer is plugged into the outlet, it does not charge the battery, nor does it recognize that it is plugged in. It only tries to run on the remaining battery. WHen the battery is in and the computer is using the AC adapter, I get a blinking white light next to the plug for the AC adapter. I have two separate batteries, and it is doing the same thing on both batteries. I have tried deleting the  Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and the Microsoft AC Adapter in the Device Manager section. It didn't fix my problem. I also used HP Support Assistant's HP Battery Check diagnostic tool. It says my "battery is functioning correctly, but the AC adapter is not attached. To completely test your battery, please attache the AC Adapter." The strange thing is, my AC adapter is plugged in, but the computer thinks it is not attached. So it is not recognizing my AC adapter when the battery is in. But does recognize and use the AC adapter when the battery is removed.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a fix? Thank you!

For a few months now, at some point my battery would indicate nn% (plugged in, not charging) and would maintain that charge as long as it was plugged in. Running on the battery, the charge would eventually diminish and in order to get the battery to charge again, I have gone through to process of uninstalling the ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in Device Manager. Usually within 24 hours, things would revert back to plugged in, not charging. However, that is no longer remedying the problem. (When this was an issue the indicator light next to where the AC Adaptor plugs in would flash blue. Also, I upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10 a few weeks ago, but this issue has been occurring for a few months now). Now the battery reads 2% (plugged in, not charging) and when I use the HP Support Assistant to check the battery, I get the message ?HP Battery Check was unable to access the battery?. I have performed a hard reset, reset the BIOS, and updated the BIOS, all to no avail. If I unplug the adaptor, the computer shuts off. Any suggestions for additional fixes? I have seen one additional suggestion to do a system recovery but I have not yet made a recovery disk for win 10 (I do have one for the win 8.1), and would it make any difference anyway since the plugged in, not charging problem was occurring under win 8.1?

Hi, I have read many people have similar issues for other models other than my Thinkpad x240 20AL but removing the battery won't solve my problem. It is plugged in, it says plugged in but battery is not charging (none of the two batteries this laptop has). I have gone to Driver Manager and uninstalled the 3 Microsoft drivers under battery section. After restarting or scanning for new hardware these drivers appear again and the problem is not solved. I have restarted de computer. Problem not solved I have removed the batter and put it back. Problem not solved. After one night, I switched on the laptop and one of the battery has charged. Right now it says plugged in, charging and it shows already 100% although it keeps charging. The other battery still shows 98% not charging.. I believe this must be a software issue, some power management that prevents the laptop from charging the battery. But where is that software and how to configure it or remove it? I have looked for Lenovo Power Management and similar and it is not installed on my laptop. Anybody knows what I am talking about?

Hello everybody,
I have the following problem:
I have an Alienware 17 laptop. When the charging cable (while attached to the laptop) is put into the socket, the laptop makes a beeping noise, and switches on - well, something is switched on.
There is no proper boot, but I can can hear the harddisk spinning. It will stay like that, until i push the Reset button, upon which the laptop boots properly.
I wonder, what is the reason for this behaviour & is there a chance that this will damage my hardware?
At any rate, I would very much like to stop this behaviour.
Your help is much appreciated.

How old is the battery? You do not have a Battery #2 more than likely. That would be the optional modular battery not the regular main battery.

Maybe ten per cent of the time, my T43 won't start. In these cases, if AC is connected, the light on the lid doesn't light. I push the start button and nothing happens.  Power adapter provides correct voltage.  If I remove and replace the battery (in good condition) it will usually start up right away. I've never had to resort to the reset routine, just remove/replace the battery. Certainly not the the biggest problem, but I wonder if someone can suggest the cause or what to expect in the future? Otherwise, it works fine. Cheers T43 2668-46U with Ubuntu 9.10

Answer:T43 startup occasionally fails/occasionally "dead"

I had the same problem on my T43-1871 It was getting to the point where every other time it would either do "nothing" when i pressed the power button to showing the IBM Thinkpad splash bios screen.. to loading to the WIN7 Loading screen and freezing.  (sorry about the run on sentence)  but it has been a long weekend trying to fix this computer...  Anyway, before that i was having random freezes... it was getting annoying then the startup problem started happening... So i tried a few things to get it working right again... First off i removed all my ram and replaced 2, 1 Gig sticks with 1 2 gig in my main slot under the keyboard, i then used partition magic to remove everything, i left the entire drive as "unpartitioned space" i let win7 format my drive for me re-installed and i haven't had any issues YET.. but i really hope my motherboard or CPU isn't going bad...

I have a Dell inspiron 15 M5010 and i recently bought a new battery. It's not a Dell battery but a Ninja Battery. As i started charging it i noticed it doesn't charge. I thought it was a defective battery so the company sent me a new one. It didn't make a difference.
Is it my AC Adapter? or because i need a Dell battery? I tried everything except update the BIOS because it needs at least 10% battery to run. Sadly i have 5%. Please help.

Hi,
I am writing this as I have hopelessly tried all methods found online without success.
I have an XPS 15 bought in France. I move to Singapore and my original DELL AC adapter was spoiled. So I went to the nearest store and bought a third party adapter. Everything works out fine for a while... Now, my laptop won't charge anymore (stuck at 90%).
My laptop only turn on if it is plugged under ac adapter. When I unplug the ac adapter, my laptop turn off.
When I turn on my laptop it says "this battery charging is temporarily disabled, press F2 for entering BIOS Menu". In BIOS, under battery health it is said "this battery is temporarily disabled, please turn off the computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature" I have this problem systematically, my laptop is not heated.
I even bring it to a repair shop here in Singapore; but they do not even have the parts to test.
Please help.
I am willing to buy a new battery or new adapter, but I am not even sure if that's the problem.

Thank you

Hello Lenovo Forums,      It's really frustrating for me to be here and posting a problem exactly a week after I bought my laptop. So I got this thing last week and about 3 days ago it started hesitating to charge. I'm sure it was not a hardware issue because at startup it charges but after a while it stops.      I got into a conclusion that it was probably some kind of service that stops it from charging. So I uninstalled the Energy Management App but it didn't work so I just reinstalled it back. I also tried to uninstall the "Microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery" like what most people recommend but it just reinstalls and doesn't work at all. I tried disabling it but it removes the battery icon from the taskbar. I also tried removing and reinstalling the battery a couple of times which resulted into nothing.      But just today when I booted up the laptop the Lenovo Management Software shown a message saying that my battery is not genuine and they will hesitate to charge it.      I was like "W**? I just got this thing last week and touched nothing and now you're telling me my battery is not genuine?" So looked at the battery and it was LEGIT with all the legit lenovo branding and everything.      Can anybody help me fix this? Thank you

That's why I emoved the battery instead and keep it on a safe place. Is there anything bad about what Im doing? Or is it normal?

Few months back my son spilled some juice on my acer chromebook (CB3-111-C8UB). The laptop is out of warranty. After that incident, I was not able to start it. But I observed when battery is getting fully discharged, then it is starting again. Then battery gets changed back to 100% and  I removed the power cable and it was running on battery fine. But after next shutdown (with recharged battery), it is not starting. So I opened it and removed the battery and I was able to start it everytime (with battery removed). Everytime to start, I had to remove and reinsert the power cable and press the start button about 30 seconds to start it. Then I put the battery back it and first time it started up immediately but once I shut it down it is not restarting. I am planning to buy an aftermarket battery but not sure if battery is the problem or there may be something else going on. Will appreciate any advice.                9

Answer:Battery health when always plugged

What I do is I click the lenovo battery button and set it to start charging when my battery is below 85% and will stop charging when it  hits 89%. This keeps it from going through so many more battery cycles i think.

Ok, before I start, I'm POSITIVE this is not a hardware issue, because when I'm in Ubuntu, it doesn't happen.

Every 10 seconds or so, Windows will think my charger is unplugged. Then, it will proceed to switch back and fourth between plugged in and not, forcing my laptop to switch between power modes. (I'm guessing this is stress on the CPU and I do not want it to have to do that all the time)

It's getting annoying having to deal with my laptop getting hot and such because of the switching power modes.

Any ideas..?

Hey everyone.
Im using a Lenovo G505s. My battery is plugged in but not charging. That's what the icon states. I've read other posts about this but none of the solutions in those questions solve my problem. Whenever I unplug the battery cord my laptop dies. Could my battery be dead and how can I confirm this? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Battery plugged in but not charging

If you unplug the battery charger and the laptop literally shuts off immediately, seeing as its not charging as well, you almost certainly have a bad battery. It will likely need replacing. The first sign is issues with it charging. The second would definitely be it shutting off IMMEDIAYELY upon removing the charger.

This means, the battery should not be rechargeable anymore.  - What should I do?- Replace battery?- I have a capacitiy of 18% left. What happens if I reach 0%? Is it still possible to use the laptop with the power cable?  Thanks and kind regardsAmuni1

I did some HP recommended updates including a bios update and now I am getting some issues with battery charging. I've not tied the upgrades to the battery issue so I would prefer to keep an open mind to it being something else. I'm now getting the message whenever I click on the battery icon that says "Battery plugged in but not charging" and it will not charge above 55-60%. I am also unable to get my HP Toolbox FX to work properly so that limits my choices to doing battery status checks. I switched charging cables and bought a new battery and the issue remains. HP support is lacking when it comes to the remedies offered. I looked through the forums for this and keep seeing the HP affiliated members continue to put out links to non-functioning or unrelated links. This is becoming  a very time consuming issue that should have a fix and not get run around by HP support. I tried a system restore to a known point of no issues and I still am unable to get resolution on this problem. Does anyone know of a "real" fix for this issue once and for all?

Answer:Battery plugged in but not charging, max 57%

Can we possibly know the full model number of the laptop? DV7s cover many years and many models with different hardware platforms.

Hi, I have a G50 70 Notebook Lenovo, and would like to know when I use the laptop for the whole day, should I remove the battery and plugged-in on A/C instead?

Answer:G50 70 - Should I remove the battery when A/C is plugged in?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Using the laptop all day when it is plugged in is not good for the overall health of the battery.  Have you checked to see if the Lenovo Energy Management application for your model offers a Conservation Mode?  If it does then enable conservation mode during the times the laptop is plugged in all day. This will maintain the battery at around a 60% charge level and allow the laptop to run off the adapter.  If you later need the laptop to be portable and not connected to the AC then disable the conservation mode to let the battery fully charge.

Although removing the battery and using the laptop with the AC adapter will work.  There maybe times during a peak resource load that the laptop may draw upon the battery for additional power.  Without the battery installed the laptop's adapter may get hot due to the increase demand and the processor may throttle back to reduce its load.  I'm not a owner of your model so I can't say for sure what the effect would be.

Whenever I have a game on (ex. overwatch, or any game) the battery will slowly drain to %0 regardless of it being plugged in I have to turn it off and wait for it to become fully charged again, If I'm just on the internet on google it will charge, this only occurs when I'm on a game. I've just starting having this problem and wanna know how I can fix this.
I've already done diagnostics tests, multiple times. but don't know what else I can do.

I cant use my laptop unless plugged in... There is no battery left at all and it wont charge...
I have tried to update BIOS but I couldnt because I got a message that the battery needs to be at least 10% charged.
I have confirmed that the charger gives the required volatge, so the charger is fine..
I have no idea if there is something wrong with the battery cz it passed the online dell test..and I dont want to buy a new battery for no reason.
So I have no idea whats wrong to fix it...
any ideas?

Answer:Battery 1% available (plugged in, not charging)

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
In the meantime, please check status of AC adapter in the BIOS. If adapter isn't detected in BIOS, the system will continue to received power but will not charge the battery. Please follow steps below:
1. Power off system.
2. Power on system, quickly start tapping F2 key continuously. You should be in the BIOS. The status of adapter usually listed under the main screen.
The adapter should say the adapter type, if it says 'Unknown' or 'None', then it's a issue with the adapter, and most likely needs to replace with a Dell genuine adapter that suitable for the system. Note: Wiggle the adapter's end while checking it in the BIOS

I bought a used laptop from Newegg about December, and for some odd reason I keep having issues with the battery not charging. It first stated that the battery is 0% available, plugged in, but not charging. I looked it up online, I tried going to the Device Manager and find the Batteries;Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, right click, and uninstall the driver. Then I went to the Action menu at the top of Device Manager, and Scan for Hardware Changes. I waited for it to reinstall the driver. That didn?t work. I tried to do it in safe mode and did the same thing, and it didn't work either. Then I tried to uninstall the battery config, powered down, removed battery, powered up with power supply then reconnected battery, still didn't work. So then I bought another battery from Amazon, that worked for awhile then I had the same issue. So I returned that battery. I just bought another battery 2 weeks ago and now am having the same issue. Now I am thinking this all cannot be a coincidence and it must be the laptop. Do you have any suggestions please and thank you.

Acer laptop
2 months old

I did the followings but did not fix it :

Unplugged the machine
Removed the battery
Plugged everything back in ( except the battery ) and loaded the machine
Turned off the machine
Put the battery back in.

This is the 2nd time. Fisrt time I fixed that by performing the above steps. Not this time.
Google search suggests faulty adaptor, as well as contacting Acer while still in warranty.

After googling, I came across this suggestion :
Device Manager > expand Battery > Right click at Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > uninstall > Action button > Scan for hardware changes

That did not solve the issue either.

Is there anything else I can do without calling Acer ?

Answer:96% Battery plugged in but not charging

Call Acer. You have a hardware problem.

HiI had bought this HP Model 11-N010TU Processor Brand Intel Processor Type Quad Core Processor Model N3520 Processor Speed (GHz) 2.16 Processor Max Speed (GHz) 2.42 Installed RAM 8GB RAM Type DDR3 on Dec-2014. The battery has been working great until last week where it starts giving plugged in, not charging with 0% remaining. I had tried to plug in directly to different wall socket but yielding same results. Troubleshooting carried out:1. I had run HP Battery check on HP Support Assistant and it gave healthy battery status. 2. So the next step is I went to a local shop to try and plug in and try with brand new power supply unit suggested by the technician. The results were the same with plugged in not charging error message. 3. I had tried the extensive hardware check by pressing Esc, f2 prior booting into windows and it gave all good results. 4. I had open up the cover dismantle the battery socket to the motherboard and plug that in again by hoping it could reset the battery but it doesn't help. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks.

System: HP Envy 17, Model 17 -- k206TX,  LOL32PPA#ABG Hello I am hoping someone can help me with this issue: My battery shows the message (3% [for example] available, plugged in, not charging). This is a replacement battery but I had the same issue with my original battery. The battery charges very slowly when the laptop is turned off and plugged in.I noticed that the "Microsoft Composite battery" driver is missing. This is what I have done to try and fix the problem (not in order).1. Ran the system recovery which took me back to windows 8.1, updated everything then moved to windows 10 64-bt.2. Replaced the battery (it was due for a replacement anyway).3. Updated the Bios through HPs website to the latest version, and reset the Bios settings to default just in case.4. Ran the Windows trouble-shooter for Battery issues and hardware, it found no problems.5. Completely drained the battery, uninstalled the battery drivers just using AC power, powered it back on with the battery inserted. 6. I can't use the HP Service battery tester as that causes the laptop to blue screen (the first time I did this the old battery started charging again for a while).I ran the battery diagnostic (F2) and got this error message:I'm not a tech person. So, it's meaningless to me. Unfortunately, the laptop is out of warranty. Any ideas other than a repair shop?

Please don't move this! This is a unique question about a legitimate problem. The last thread I created got moved into someone else's thread dealing with a different issue and I didn't appreciate that because I came here to get support for this unique issue. Thanks! Hello Lenovo community!I'm having an issue on my laptop that arose when I installed Windows 8 alongside Windows 7 on a separate partition, and then installed Lenovo's Energy Management software from my windows 7 installation on to that windows 8 install, thinking it would work. I realized later there are compatibility issues with it.As soon as I did this, I am noticing a significant FPS/frame rate reduction in games and other GPU-intensive apps (around 19-20 fps) while the laptop is plugged IN on AC power but surprisingly things run buttery smooth when I don't have the charger plugged in (70+ fps). Uninstalling the software did not fix it. And the weirdest thing is that when I booted back into my Windows 7 install, the problem persisted there too! It's as if this somehow affected the hardware of my laptop.I reformatted my hard drive and installed Winows 8 alone, and installed a newer, updated version of Lenovo's Energy Management software which was designed for Windows 8. It has some weird bugs still which they need to fix such as not being able to optimize the settings for best battery health, which holds the laptop's charge at 50%. I really like this feature and hope it's ... Read more

This will set the charge to 60% level and not go beyond while you are plugged into ac.

HP pav. 13 x360. Windows 10 Had the plugged in not charging error with a CMOS error at boot up and then it would take 5min to boot and then it would run fine. Got it in under warranty and they changed the battery out. 4 months later the error has occurred again. As before I tried all the basic troubleshooting from reinstalling/updating drivers to flashing the BIOS to reinstalling windows and it still would not charge. Took it apart this time as it is out of warranty, pulled the battery, cleaned out all the connectors and am currently checking for possible short sites, but I rebooted the laptop without the batter and still got the CMOS error but it booted immediately. I am going to do more troubleshooting, but I do not know what this CMOS error is if the battery is out of the machine. What am I missing? Thanks in advance. Please help. Wife is not happy without laptop.

Answer:plugged in not charging with new battery

> Got it in under warranty and they changed the battery out. Which battery did HP replace? A "CMOS error" means that the (small) battery on the motherboard has failed to keep "trickling" enough power to the CMOS chip to enable the CMOS to retain its settings.  This battery is distinct from the "main" removable battery that fits into the laptop. Some computers have "power" settings to maximize battery-life.  This may include not automatically charging the battery up to 100%, if you usually use the computer on AC power.  So, this may trigger the "plugged-in-not-charging" message, but it does increase the life of the battery. > rebooted without the battery, and still got the CMOS error Definitely, it's the "small" battery on the motherboard that is not working.Contact HP, to see if they will admit that they changed the "wrong" battery.

I bought a new battery for my laptop because the original one had lost endurance, it would last only about 45 minutes, anyway. So I put the new battery in and the computer sometimes doesn't recognize it, sometimes it does but most of the time it says : Plugged in but not charging.

I'm not too sure what to do, I made sure to buy the exact same battery with the same model #, etc.

Answer:NEW battery plugged in but not charging

1. Shut Down the laptop.
2. Press the power button then tap the F2 key until a blue screen appears.
3.On the left sided menu arrow down to Battery Info.
What does it show ?

Hey guys, I have a Sony Vaio laptop that has a battery that only keeps about 20 minutes of charge now. I heard that in order to extend the life of a battery you should actually take the battery out of the laptop while it's plugged into the wall outlet.

Has anyone had any success with prolonging the life of their batteries this way? Does keeping the battery in the laptop while it is plugged in actually damage the battery?

Thanks!

Answer:Battery life when plugged in

If it is a lithium-ion battery then no, you cannot prolongue the battery life by doing that. Lithium ION batteries do not have the memory effect found in older model batteries. The downside is they have less of a life span.

Generally speaking lithium ion batteries will only last about 1.5 to 2 years and still give you a full charge. This will happen whether you keep it plugged in or unplug it when not charging.

Long story short - no. it will not help your battery life by keeping it unplugged when not charging.

I have a lenovo b40, which isn't charging. Yesterday it showed "plugged in, not charging". Now, even with the charger plugged in, it doesn't display anything. Also, the power light is blinking. I pressed down the power switch with the battery attached, it simply blinked faster. When I tried the same thing without the battery, nothing happened.
