T440s and ZTC M2 NGFF 256GB SSD issue

Question: T440s and ZTC M2 NGFF 256GB SSD issue

Hello to all. I've an issue with my T440s. I recently bought a ZTC 256GB M2 SSD online whcih I've installed successfully but I can't seem to be able to format the **bleep** thing and I thought it was faulty but after replacing it with a new one, it seems the SSD is alright.I can see the SSD in the BIOS and in Disk Manager but when I try and format the disk, it sits there for a while and fails to format it. The disk then disappears from Disk Manager or Device manager until the system is rebooted. I also tried via diskpart to do a clean on the disk and the same occurs. I've also tried 3rd party tools using Acronis Disk director and True Image and I can't seem to do anything on the disk. I can partition the disk but I can't format it or even clone to it.I looked in the BIOS and there doesn't seem to be anything obvious. I need your help on this one as I've been scratching my head for quite a while Anyone experienced this in the past ? Is this something wrong with my laptop ?Thanks for your advicesRegardsGaetan

Preferred Solution: T440s and ZTC M2 NGFF 256GB SSD issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T440s and ZTC M2 NGFF 256GB SSD issue

Plugged the M2 SSD into a brand new T450s and it's not detected so it's either an issue with ZTC or LENOVO. It's the 2nd SSD I try so I doubt the drive is faulty but simply incompatible

I am trying to placing this order... 20AQCTO1WW ThinkPad T440s Which comes with... "256GB SSD eDrive" But, lenovo seem to be trying to keep the details of this drive 'secret'.    Does anyone know the manufacturer/model name for this secret drive?   I talked to sales support, they did not know and told me to call tech support.   I called tech support but they told me to call sales.  So, talked to sales again , and they said it is an intel pro 1500.  But, then I found this website... http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/t440s_fru_bom_20131014.pdf  And, this says the edrive is either samsung or liteon.  I am so confused now. The lenovo sales people were saying the model doesn't matter because SSD's are faster then mechanical drives.

Answer:T440s - what is the 256gb SSD edrive model?

Hi wreck1080, I guess it would depend on the stock they have at the moment your order your machine. It could be one of the 3 drives. I don't think it's too much of an issue as you will anyway end with a 256GB SDD eDrive. They don't provide the manufacturer of the RAM modules or the motherboard either. Vince.

I'm installing windows 7 from a USB key, which does boot and 'Start' the install. My problem is the windows 7 installation doesn't see a HDD to install on.I get a 'Load Driver' dialog box that says "a required CD / DVD Drive device driver is missing.  If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB Flash Drive, please insert now." "Note: if the windows installation media is in the CD / DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step." When I hit browse I see the Windows 8 OS (came preloaded) and a boot drive.  Neither of which are my USB Key.Anyone getting this or know how to fix it? Thanks

Answer:Install Windows 7 on T440s with 256gb SSD

Hello and welcome,

That "...CD/DVD..." message is often misleading.  It can mean that there's an install media problem: bad flash drive, bad ISO download, bad ISO to flash transfer.  It can also happen when installing from a USB 3.0 port on some machines.

Does a T440s have a USB 2.0 port?  If so try that one.  Or just try another USB port.

I just bought my T440s and loving it however, when i start to transfer my essential files from my old notebook to my new T440s, the 256GB SSD left with like 20GB of spare space left (lenovo recovery took up 14.7GB already). I am thinking of upgrading my SSD . Can anyone advise which SSD best recommended for this? thank you for reading my queston.

Answer:T440S: Which SSD to replace my default 256GB

I have multiple devices with Samsung Evo SSDs of various sizes and couldn't be happier. Also, if you think you ever want to restore your laptop to the factory state, then burn the recovery disk set from Q drive. Once you have the disks--it takes 4 DVDs-then let the Q drive remove itself and recover the disk space. You don't need almost 15GB of wasted space on an SSD.Once you've done that, then use a quality imaging app like Macrium Reflect to make regular images of your drive for the sake of restoring it, instead of going all the way back to factory state. Edit:  you can also use Macrium to image your existing SSD to the new one.  Samsung drives come with their own cloning tool, but it can sometimes muck up the System Reserved partition of Windows by leaving too little free space on it.  So, burn the DVDs, get rid of the recovery partition, reclaim the space, then image the current drive to a new one.

I have my T440s for about one year, doubling it as both my work and home machine. The original samsung PM851 256GB SSD just sudden went undetectable, without any sympton or SMART warning. The laptop BIOS no longer detects it. This happened just two days after I upgraded my Win 8.1 to Win 10. (I first did the upgrade and then a clean install of Win 10.) I don't think it was Win 10's problem, but the two installations may have added just enough wear to fail the SSD. What surprised me is that the death came off without any warning. I wonder if anyone here has the same (terrible) experience. Just a kind reminder to back up your data frequently if you have one such SSD.

Answer:Sudden death of Samsung 256GB SSD in T440s just two days after Win 10 upgrade

Backups are very important with both SSDs and platter-based drives.  Overall, I have found SSDs very reliable, but in my experience, traditional drives are more likely to fail slowly, where you get some bad sectors.  You can still retrieve most of your data.  When an SSD fails, it may fail suddenly and catastrophically; everything is gone.

Hi, thanks in advance for you help.I just acquire a new T440S with a SSD 256GB, the equipment will be arriving in two weeks. I try go buy it with a SSD 512 GB but it was not available. In the specifications sheet is indicated that the equipment can work with a 512 GB SSD however when allocating the order at Lenovo they told me that they only had available the option of 256GB SSD, that if want it to get a bigger SSD I must purchase it separate from another supplier and replaced.Equipment will came with windows 8.1 and office 2013 preinstalled. So as soon as I got the new T440S I want to replace the 256 GB SSD for a new one 512 GB SSD, so I have some questions. 1.- What specifications must comply the new 512 GB SSD in order to be compatible? 2.- To fisically change the disck is not a problem, but to configurate the equipment it is a problem for me. What I need to do, step by step?Due I need to configure the new equipment, generate de recovery dvds for all the software and drivers, then change the SSD and run a full recovery? For sure I am not going to receive disks neither with windows 8.1 and neither office 2013.How do you suggest me to do this? thanksJorge

Answer:T440S brand new - instructions to replace and configure 512 GB vs 256GB - windows 8.1

One advise- don't change drive by yourself. Read about broken bottom covers. It happend to me, and many other pepople even here on forum.  1. Almost every SSD will be good with T440s. (Remember to update your BIOS to the latest version). I had evo 840, evo 850, pro 850 and mx100, all worked good. Pro 850-> 10 years warranty,  2. Just use disks fromyour T440s package, works fine many times for me. As far as I know for 8.1 you will always get windows disk.

Hi, I have a month old T440s. It has the original 256GB SSD drive (didn't open\replace anything). After uninstalling some antivirus software win8 had problems booting. To make a long story short, I tried different things to fix the MBR and eventually got to the point of trying to do a full factory restore, which didn't work (it couldn't find the recovery partition). When I boot up now, I get the "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)" error.Aside from trying to restore using Lenovo CD (shipped to me, will be here in a couple of days), what else cn be done and what caused this ordeal? I don't mind about the data on the SSD, I just really need my laptop functioning ASAP. Thanks for any advise you may have!

Hi, Obviously not able to open these critters up. I have a new T440s that I would like to transfer my programs and data to.  Is there a program out there that can do this without having to pull out the hard drive to image? My current one has Windows 8.1. The new one has Windows 7 with the Windows 8.1 recovery discs.  Issue is, I believe that the Windows license is tied to the hardware?  Therefore I would have to make a recovery disc set of Windows 7.....then use the Windows 8.1 recovery discs then move my programs and data over.  Windows Easy Transfer does not look like it can do the best job. I thought about bringing it to the store for them to swap the drives but then worried alot about the whole licensing issue.  (not to mention the possible loss of my warranty) Unless if it is done professional and the license could be stripped out of the existing drive and new drive moved to new machine....perhaps a way to get the license keys from the new system somehow. Thanks in advance.

Answer:T440S to T440s - program and data transfer, OS licensing issue

Hello.

If you look at the bottom of the machines, and they both have the Windows 8 sticker, your machines are licenced and the product key is embedded in the BIOS.

You can use this program: ProduKey to view and write down your keys, but if you use either the Recovery disks or a WIndows 8 Pro retail DVD to reinstall Windows, your key will be picked up automatically by the installation.

For migration of your files, programs and settings, you could simply clone your current WIndows 8.1 installation onto the new drive using, assuming your installation is UEFI and thus your HD is GPT partitioned, Macrium Reflect, which many users here have had a good experience with. That would save you time from having to reinstall Windows on the new machine as well and all you'd have to do is to enter the embedded Windows key of your new machine to activate it.

Macrium Reflect

That's at least one suggestion, but there are many ways to go about this.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hi, I've just bought a 256GB SanDisk X400, M.2 SSD, SATA III for my XPS 13 9343. I have just installed it and switched on the machine. The bios is saying "MiniCard SSD Device = (none). Obviously the Windows 10 install can't see anything either. Is this drive incompatible with this laptop? Should I be replacing it with a Samsung 250GB 850 EVO M.2 SATA SSD instead?

Answer:XPS 13 with 256GB SanDisk X400 M.2 SSD Issue

You need the SATA version for this model - yes.  The newest XPS 13 supports PCIe/NVMe drives, but the older one you have does not.

My Y510P had a 1TB 5400+24GB Cache SSD. I bought a MyDigital SSD m.2 256GB to replace the 24GB m.2 cache ssd on my laptop. I have previously reformatted both of the drives and cleared all of the original lenovo installation including the partition with their recovery software. I purchased a new version of Windows 8.1 and that is what I have installed on the 1TB HDD presently.I was able to replace the ssd successfully. the new 256GB device is recognized in the BIOs. I have it on UEFI boot and have secure boot disabled. I have also uninstalled the SuperCache software and also uninstalled the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver that was set as the driver for the HDD, in its place i installed the Standard SATA AHCI Controller driver and restarted. I set the DVD drive to be first in the boot order and put my windows 8.1 64-bit disc into the drive. The setup begins and before i even get to the drive selection screen i still recieve an error stating that a recently installed media has a missing driver, and it gives me the option to search for the driver.. i got this error before i uninstalled the SATA Driver as well. Really going crazy trying to get this Win 8.1 installation onto the SSD. I am unable to bypass this error in the 8.1 set up so that i can do a fresh install on my ssd. I want to use the 256GB ssd to install windows and boot from and use the 1tb as purely storage. Any help is appreciated.

Not sure how to explain it but I try: sometime, when surfing on the web and e.g. moving backward or forward to a page, I hear a strange audio "click" noise. It does not repeat systemically. Sometime I hear it at the left side of the sreen, sometime at the right side. I wonder if I should try to make a reset or something. Have you experinced a similar issue? A solution?

We are beta testing this laptop for our company and seem to have a number of issues with this laptop. One issue we get says, ?Close programs to prevent information loss" although only a few light applications are open.  We ran Lenovo Diagnostics tool (everything was clean). We installed RAM on our own, which we purchased from this link http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-12800-SODIMM-204-Pin-CT2K8G3S160BM/dp/B008LTBJFW/ref=cm_cr_pr_prod... The laptop has a built in 4GB stick of RAM. The brand is Micron. Where as our 8GB stick is Crucial. Does anyone have any idea whats going on?

Answer:T440s RAM Issue 12GB

Hi,firstly let me explain that Micron and Crucial are one company. Micron is selling stuff to enterprise, while Crucial is selling products to smaler customers. Anyway in your case it seems, you've bought some kind of "Apple" version of DDR3L. Maybe the problem is there? Unfortunately I'm not aware if there is any difference between memory for Mac and PC. Can you see 12 GB available in Windows? in BIOS? in AIDA64? Easiest solution seems to be to go to the nearest PC shop and try different memory there...

Question: T440s audio issue

I have a strange issue where some time after booting up my volume starts acting strangely. Here is a video I took: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFdDyZmefRs The music you're hearing should be much louder than it is, it's also quite tinny sounding when it goes into this wonky state. As you can hear when i click the volume meter for a split second at the start of the 'beep' it is at normal volume, then for the rest of the sound it's in the same 'low volume tinny sounding' mode that youtube is in. I'm using the realtek lenovo drivers from the official download place.

Hello,So I have a Lenovo laptop and every once in a while it will not power up, it becomes like a paper weight. A while back I was browsing the forums and found an article which said to remove the power sources hold power button and then re attach power sources. This works perfect. But, this happens about once a week and there is an internal battery in the laptop casing I have so its a bit of a pain to have to remove all the screws and keep taking the base off the laptop. I have a new T440s which came with Windows 8, and I upgraded to 8.1Nothing strange installed in it. Sometimes touchpad and/or trackpoint don't work at all after turning on, rebooting or recovering from a suspended state. It never fails while the system is running. When it happens, I reboot and it works fine. Already upgraded everything using System Update (BIOS, etc) and Windows Update. Sounds to me as a driver issue, not a hardware issue... but I am not 100% sure. What should I do? Should I reinstall any driver? How?

We're 15+ year ThinkPad customers... Received our initial  T440s i7, 256GB SSD today and was astounded at how poorly it was setup. We generally bring one of a new generation in before rolling out a model to our staff. I powered the machine on and it went to the Windows 8 Pro initialization, but the touchpad was not working at all (making setup difficult). Once I got to the Windows 8 desktop I noticed that besides the Touch problems the function keys were not working (Fn keys). I let it sit for a bit to see if any Lenovo software was going to take me through a setup/update routine for the touchpad, fingerprint sensor, updates, etc. Nothing happened. I manually started System Update and had to update that program and then started downloading a number of items like the Touchpad driver. I then started receiving Windows messages that the updates were from an untrusted sources. I was also receiving USB Not found errors. Besides those problems, there were a couple of distressing items I saw. Obviously, at about $2,000 this isn't really a consumer machine, yet it was loaded down with all sorts of consumer software from Lenovo. Some kind of music app wanted to run in the background and weather apps...and of course Norton. It's really quite a mess full of bloatware. That might be okay when you're trying to offset the price of a $500 laptop...but putting that crap on a business machine is really poor thinking. I hope someonat at Lenovo takes a loo... Read more

Hey Ken, we too are 10-ish year Lenovo business customers and have some of the same concerns and issues. Our machines work fine, however both of our test units have issues with the (otherwise excellent) FHD screens.  Issues that are obvious enough they should have never shipped.  It took over an hour on the phone with Lenovo, and we still didn't have service organized because their databases hadn't been updated with our serial numbers and warranties.  Poor roll-out. I agree about the crapware.  I have always tolerated Lenovo's own utilities because I feel like many of them were honestly offering stuff that Windows wasn't working to provide a good experience with, but this trial ware is a PITA. I too don't know where else to go.  We can't run OSX, and I'm not sure that Apple has warranties that would meet our needs.  I feel like this is as good as it's going to get, but Lenovo needs to realize that today's market has a lot higher expectations than this when we are buying machines this expensive. Otherwise I think I like what they've done with the machines.  They've modernized them in some good ways while still retaining some of the necessary business features.  Time will tell...

Hello All Really frustrating issue here that I can only find hints about around these forums and the net. New T440s for work - bought 6 weeks ago. Very fresh. PreInstalled with Window 8.1 which was then seemlessly upgraded to 8.1 Pro. PC has then been kept up to date with Lenovo and Windows updates. Am trying to run the following monitor setup at work - I do NOT have a dock:Main Display - Samsung 205BW - connected to VGA port2nd Display - Samsung 205BW - connected to MiniDisplayPort3rd Display - Laptop LCD Eyes are getting old so I plan to use the two monitors mainly - with the LCD as backup real estate. The monitor on the laptop's VGA port is working perfectly - max resolution, max refresh rate, everything. The problem is I cannot get the 2nd display to work in DVI from the miniDP port in any resolution. Windows appears to detect that something is there but the monitor itself does not detect any digital signal and it remains black. I got a miniDisplayPort > DVI adaptor from the local pc shop and tried both single and dual link DVI cables but nothing worked. I CAN make the display work if I use a minDisplayPort > VGA adaptor and set the res to the max 1680 x 1050 but I get a weird effect where the monitor will filcker and go black, then come back, and go blank again, repeatedly until the monitor loses the signal altogether. This is the case too for the first couple of seconds (until drivers are activated?) - after that, the trackpad works for clicks but not as a trackpad (I have to use the red nipple). If I go to mouse properties in the control panel, I have only two options available for Pointing Options - use Trackpoint Only, or Use Classick Trackpoint mode only. Sometimes, after a reboot or hibernate (but not sleep), I can actually choose trackpad as the first option, instead of the other two - and it works! But then the next time I reboot or wake from hibernation, there are three options - but the first one (where the trackpad one should be) is blank! In their infinite wisdom, IBM (or whoever now 'supports' Lenovo) advise me that the only course of action is a complete reinstall. Much as I'd love to spend three or four days backing up, reinstalling, reupdating data, trying to find or remember login and certificate information, tweaking settings yada yada yada... I'd rather explore every option first! I have had this problem for about three months, and my trackpad was very recently replaced - it worked brilliant for three days, then this problem recurred :-) Does anyone know **bleep** is going on??cheersBenjamin

Dear t440s owners (and owners of other models with touch pad?), I just received my t440s yesterday. It seems that it can simulate a right click if I use two fingers to click on the touchpad at the same time. However, it seems that the functionality doesn't work properly.
I would expect that when I click using two fingers it will send only the right click event to the application, but in most case it seems that the touch pad will send a left click event followed by a right click event. Say if I do that on a link, I would expect that it pops up the context menu but actually it will click on the link.
Does anyone know how I can ensure that only the right click event is fired?

ADMIN EDIT

In addition to the settings change discussed and agreed by some in this thread as the solution, I recommend that everyone update the touchpad firmware and synaptics drivers.

We have a number of updates available to improve the performance of the touchpad.

1) We have a firmware update to update systems in the field.  Newer systems will come from the factory with this update already.

2) We are continuing to update the drivers.  The current driver was released in January.  Please install this update.

A newer version is in final test and should release by the end of Feb.  Be sure to check the suppo... Read more

Answer:t440s touch pad right click issue

Mine does the same thing. When I touch on with two fingers I would expect it to perform a right click function like on a chromebook or MacBook, but it doesn't always do it...only sometimes. I've tried doing it fast and slow but that doesn't seem to be the cause. I updated the latest drivers weeks ago.

Help! I have been havng issues with T440s, so want to do a factory reset and start again. I am running Windows 7 pro, and tried to create a recovey disk.  My system now wont boot, but when I go into recovery tools, it does not see a boot partiton. I n recovery options I can see C: drive, D: drive and boot x, but nothinh within these. It is asking for a covery media to be connected, but it just wont see it. Being a T440, I do not have a CD drive. When I try to boot normally I get a blue screen and unmountable boot flasshes up. So given I do not have working recovery media, what do you recommend I do? If I install a new ndows 7, can I get the machne back to a factory state? What do I do?  any help greatly appreciated.

Answer:T440s Factory reset issue

Hi Gibbo,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Some models have a separate partition on the hard drive. This partition contains the factory installed Operating system and supporting program (Product Recovery program). The Product Recovery program runs independently of the operating system.

To determine if you?re PC has the Product Recovery program on the hard drive, keep tapping F11 key after switching ON the system, this will take you to Recovery drive were you can perform OS re-installation.

Also check with below link, it might be useful.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I have a T440s hooked up to a ThinkPad Pro 90W dock, with two ASUS 24" monitors. One of the monitors is attached to the DVI port, and the other is attached to the VGA port via a VGA to DVI adapter. My problem is that the external VGA monitor resolution only goes to 1280 x 768. Recently I've got a new T440s. I set the battery maintainence charge mode as: optimize battery health (for built-in) and custom charge threshold 80% to 90% (for removable) using Lenovo power manager. The problem is:Sometimes the Windows 7 task bar battery icon is still shown as "charging" even it's higher than 80%. But it doesn't acturally charge. The percentage stays at 80%.So I (re)configured the settings for the removable battery "Always fully charge (96% to 100%)". But it doesn't work! The battery stays at 80%.I've also tried "Perform Reset". But it doesn't work! The battery stays at 80%.I've also tried restarting computer, re-installing Lenovo power manager. Neither works. My computer:T440sModel number: 20ARS1V000OS: Windows 7 ProPower manager: 6.67.2 Can I ask your advice what I could do? Thank you!

I bought a T440s with a SSD drive. Lately the laptop has been slow so I started to investigate a bit, and it looks like Lenovo is using Samsung TLC drives, which slow down due to a known bug.Currently my read is ~10-20MB/s whereas it was ~550MB/s when the drive was fresh. I tried to upgrade the firmware with Samsung Magician, but it does not recognize the drive because it's an OEM drive. Also I couldn't find any tool by Lenovo which could update the firmaware. Here is one link if someone is interested about the slowness. There's a lot more if you just google it.http://techreport.com/news/27087/some-of-samsung-tlc-ssds-are-slow-to-read-old-data So basically has anyone A) Found a fix for this issue? B) Managed to get Lenovo to replace the drive to something that is not affected by this?

Answer:T440s external battery charging issue

Hi P1c1u,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with External battery not charging on your ThinkPad T440s.
The problem you are running into is Power Manager conflicting with the 80% BIOS threshold.  I think you have not installed Lenovo power manager & Lenovo power management driver in your system, please install both the application and also to avoid this, either keep the Power Manager threshold for both batteries below 80%, or else both batteries above 80%.
Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if any other user has experience  this issue. I did a lenovo update couple weeks back and since then my wireless adapter would not work after waking up from sleep mode. It shows that the wireless adapter is connected to wireless network but the internet would not work. The only way i can make it work is by disabling the wifi adapter by putting the laptop in airplane mode and then bringing it back out from it. Disabling and enabling the wireless adapter does a quick fix and does allow me to use the internet without any issue for the time being. i have also uninstalled and reinstalled fresh drivers from lenovo website, still having the same problem. Any idea, suggestion or fix?

Hi Folks, Had a bad T440s that is about to go back. However, under the exact same circumstances and software, the battery on the old machine would last 7 hours.  The battery on the new machine lasts only 2 to 2.5 hours. Anyone else out there experience this problem.? My setup is exactly the same as the previous machine.  The only difference when I ran some software to get statistics is that the battery in the old one was a sony and the battery in the new one is a Sanyo.  The external battery is the same. I've done my checks and there are no issues with the batteries. I've done everything I can. Eliminated processes, services and disabled devices and programs from startup, power profiles.  We are talking a bare work/surf/email machine with very little video usage.  Stlil having the wifi issue too. Lenovo wants to send a tech over or have me ship it to L2 since it is a new machine however I know this will result in a motherboard replacement, (which will result in a new machine anyway which I have asked for) unless the screen has something to do with it.  Other than that surveillance hardware/software tends to draw a lot of power. At this point I need a fully functioning machine hence my reluctance to ship it off and too much life stuff going on to get someone over. Anyone know of another useful battery tool outside of the Battery Eater Pro etc that let's you know where the power is going? I have found a few references on th... Hello,my t440s will turn off, when i push against the bottom cover near the connector of the battery. Lifting the thinkpad with one hand is sometimes enough to turn it off. I think it's a connection problem between the external battery and the notebook. -the problem only exists if the external battery is connected-the problem will not appear if i press the battery release button during pressing against the bottom cover. To reproduce the problem:-insert external battery-boot computer, wait until windows is started-press against the bottom cover -> the laptop goes off Without the bottom cover i can reproduce the problem (the battery is not locked without the cover):-if i remove the battery without activating the small switch near the release pusher, the laptop goes off-if i remove the battery while activating the small switch near the release pusher, the laptop stays on. I think, when i push against the bottom cover, the battery looses the connection. On my T440s the connector seems to be very deep. It does not really fit into the battery. Does anybody have the same problem? Can anybody with a t440s look at the battery connector: Is the connector properly aligned, or is it on a different height?  Push at the red position: http://i59.tinypic.com/25006c0.jpgConnector: http://i60.tinypic.com/qzncao.jpg Thanks for your helpAndi

Answer:M2. NGFF for W541

Hi,

I haven't been able to find the specs for that SSD so I can't speak to the electrical compatibility.  If it's otherwise compatible the notches shouldn't be a problem.  That's a B & M connector that can handle either or both socket tabs.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2

I believe that the W541 m.2 slot supports SATA SSDs - not PCIe - so make sure that the Toshiba is compatible.

Hi, If I order a t450s with the 16GB NGFF caching drive, the 3rd NGFF slot option, but no WWAN module, where will the 16GB ssd be installed? In the slot that takes the place of the smartcard reader, or in the place of the WLAN card (so the slot that takes the place of the smartcard reader remains free)? Thanks!

Answer:t450s and 3rd NGFF slot...

Him.2 cache SSD drive, 22x42 mm in size, isn't compatible with wlan m2 slot. In case there is a smart card reader, that cache drive should be placed under internal battery, on the same plate as the reader. So wwan slot remains empty.

Hello ! I see some models of Y510P have a M.2 NGFF PCI-E slot.(Like this one Clicky). My question is, can i use a SATA M.2 NGFF SSD drive on that slot, or is it has to be strictly PCI-E, are they compatible ? Also, will I be able to install Windows 7 or 8 on the M.2 NGFF drive ?

Here is one of the best drives for the NGFF slot if your Y510P has that.  It also shows a picture of it. http://mydigitalssd.com/sata-m2-ngff-ssd.php You will have to open your Y510P to make sure it has this socket before ordering.  You should be able to install Windows 7 or Windows 8 to the NGFF drive.  The original 24 GB drive that comes with the Y510P is too small for the OS.

Hi All,

Recently I bought a X1C 2014 version with a 256g ssd builtin which model is Samsung  MZNTD256HAGL-000L9. I can see it is a M.2 SATA 3 6.0G interface.

I can see the M.2 slot in X1C has only the B key which means both SATA / PCIe 4X card can be fit in.

My question is, can I replace the 256G SATA SSD to a 512G PCI-E SSD like the samsung XP941?

Answer:M.2 NGFF slot in X1C 2014

The type of M.2 key alone doesn't necessarily point to whether the slot will take PCIe/SATA or a combination of the two.  The way the system is wired will ultimately determine what is going to work.  In your case, the X1C is configured to accept M.2 SATA only, so the XP941 is sadly not an option.  Your currently available options for upgrading to a larger SSD will be the Crucial M500 or M550 M.2 SATA SSD, and you might also have options from Intel depending on your local market. To date, the only notebook system I'm aware of that will take the XP941 is some models of the Sony VAIO Pro 13. cheers, Rod

Hello forumites!I've just purchased and installed this 128GB SSD in the m.2 slot on my Lenovo Y510p. Since installing it I am not seeing much of a difference in the speed of opening programs or starting up the laptop, so I'm not sure I've done it correctly. I followed the instructions provided, though I was unable to disable Intel Rapid Storage, there just wasn't an option to do that on the program and I didn't want to uninstall it completely. I'm not entirely sure what to do from here, as I'm not really aware of any difference between a cache drive or a boot drive. I would like my laptop to start up and run as quickly as possible. I have read about cloning the OS and running it completely off of the SSD, but I'm not confident in my knowledge to undertake this task without messing up my laptop. Can anyone explain some of the benefits and how to actually do this OS clone? Just an FYI, since I only restored the laptop using One Key Recovery last week, I don't really have any precious data that I would care about losing if that's what it takes.

Answer:Moving OS to M.2 NGFF SATA SSD

I went ahead and attempted moving the OS from the HDD to my new SSD and it worked. On the plus side, the OS now runs entirely off of the 128GB SSD so the laptop starts up in under 10 seconds, if there was any way to bypass the password screen completely I'm sure it could do it in about 5. I now want to use the 1TB drive purely for storage so I formatted it using Acronis and then changed it to the NTFS format using Disk Management. These actions were done using the SATA to USB cable I purchased to undertake this whole conversion. This is where my problem has occured: The HDD works fine when connected via USB, but when placed back inside of the laptop it does not show up anywhere in File Explorer or Disk Management, meaning I can't restore my files and documents from my external drive, and there isn't nearly enough room on the SSD to hold my music and games, so I'm left with an incredibly fast but totally empty laptop.I don't understand what has gone wrong.

Hello,

I just soldered a NGFF connector to my laptop's motherboard, and I installed a 128GB MyDigitalSSD SSD and it is not being detected, I can't find it in the disk management as well. I called Lenovo technical support yesterday and they told me that installing the connector should be enough, no additional ICs or controllers are required.

I tried a few solutions,including :
1. Switching the boot to Legacy instead of UEFI.
2. Reinstalled the chipset driver.
3. Installed ExpressCache and it didn't work either.

Note: The SSD seems like it is getting power since I can feel the heat when I touch it.

Thanks,
Hush

I am planning to buy a S540 the next days. If I'm right, the 16GB NGFF SSD option is based on SATAIII and not PCIe.May plan was to replace the 500GB HDD with a Samsung SSD, which I use at the moment in my old laptop. Now the question.Does it make sense from the performance point of view, to buy a larger NGFF SSD for the OS or should I use the classic SSD ?Because both are based on Sata-III, I would expect no difference, but maybe I am wrong. thanks,Markus

Hi! Bought ngff SSD 128GB as a boot disk. If open the back cover of the laptop i lost a warranty?

Answer:Y510P ngff SSD & warranty

Drives and RAM are usually considered user replaceable components. If the cover is for HDD only, then it should be OK to open it. Are there ANY warranty seals on it? On my Y580 I had only one seal, which was inside the laptop on the mainboard. I didn't have any seals on the laptops body.

my y510p does not have a ngff connector in it....there should be something there right ? i just bought a ngff SSD, its expensive and when i take my laptop apart. HOW CAN I ADD SSD TO THIS EMPTY AREA? IT SAYS FOR SSD RIGHT? SO THERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE A CONNECTOR RIGHT?

Answer:No ngff connector(for SSD) in Y510P

hi Lin1005,

A similar discussion was posted in this thread.

It seems like the non-SSD versions the Y510p doesn't come with the M.2 (NGFF) connector. I'm afraid you will need to use the 2.5" slot and upgrade the stock SATA HDD to a 2.5" SATA SSD. You can then transform the stock HDD as external drive by getting a SATA enclosure or you can use an HDD caddy and put it on the ODD bay (for non-SLI models).

If you can still exchange the NGFF SSD, see Crucial's SSD Upgrade for the Y510p.

To anyone, I had reimage my Thinkpad T440S since the WIndows 8.1 was corrupted. I used Lenovo Windows 8.1 recovery Dvd to reimage it. It finished but I get to the WIndows login screen and when I click it. Its says administrator but the account is disabled. During the reimage process there was no part that lets me create a user account or to renable the administrator account. I redid the process twice using the restore DVD. Does anyone know of a solution for this or had anything happen to them like this before.

hi i would like to know if those two : 59 407130 and 59 380590 has m.2(nfss) slot?  i talked to lenovo turkey support but they don't even know what am i talking about guy keep telling me about ultrabay or msata and dont know what m.2 slot is..

Answer:Which models has m.2(ngff) slot on y510p?

LOL at that turkey guy xD well i think every y510p has a SSD slot as default just that if you pick the 8GB one then SSD slot will be empty since 8GB will be apart of hard disk more like 1TB + 8GB so it's a SSHD than HDD + SSD. So if you pick one with 1TB + 24GB SSD then it's 1TB Harddisk alone and a m.2 24GB SSD 24mm in the SSD slot.

Hello, I purchased a My Digital 42mm M.2 ssd and wanted to install it in my W540. It does not show up in the BIOS or disk management. I had gone to a local computer repair shop to ask if he could check the ssd some how to verify that it was in fact working, since it is the second one that i have tried to install unsuccesfully. While he couldnt test the ssd for me he said that since adding the M.2 drive is an option that you can choose when you buy the computer and i did not do that I can not add one to the computer later. He mentioned that  the mother board needed to be configured to use the M.2 drive at the factory. I was not aware of that, obviously since i purchased the ssd, can anybody verify that is indeed the case? Or any suggestions on how to get the drive to show up would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Hello !Bear in mind that the connector is not the only problem to check. The BIOS has a whitelist of approved cards and if the new one is not, the laptop won't boot and provide a 1802 error...I wonder if this has to be related to the Intel management system or the frequencies and power regulations of Wifi in the different counnntries. The new card has to maintain the Lenovo certification for use in the country you live...Maybe you could bring the laptop to the shop and see if it fits and if the laptop boots...

Hi Kresten,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are willing to upgrade system memory and M.2.NGFF SSD for your ThinkPad T440.

You can upgrade the RAM and M.2.NGFF SSD for your system, but you have to be cautious while replacing the hardware, because if you create any physical damage to the system then it won?t cover the warranty.

You can use this link to know about how to replace FRU parts for ThinkPad T440.

I have purchased an X240 20AL laptop with 256GB SSD eDrive.I was thinking of upgrading it with a WWAN adaptor (which can be installed on the 2nd m.2 slot near the WLAN adaptor) plus an aditional m.2 SSD storage to be installed on the 3rd slot. But when I opened the back cover, I found out that the 3rd slot is missing. As per the information I got on the internet, the 3rd slot should be a "Single-sided M.2 SSD, via M.2 card slot, exclusive with Smart card reader". So I checked my laptop and found that it does not have a Smart Card reader. So I think it has the space for the 3rd card slot. The questions are:1. Does my laptop have space for adding the 3rd m.2 NGFF SSD adapter, considering the fact that its original storage is a 256GB SSD eDrive?2. If yes, what is the exact connector and cable I have to purchase? (I checked the net. The FRU list for my X240 indicates "04X3827 3rd NGFF SSD adapter" and "04X3939 M.2 Cable - Amphenol / 04X3940 M.2 Cable - Luxshare-ICT") Are these the correct parts? Thanks,

Hi everyone, I've purchased the 128 GB model of the MyDigitalSSD Super Cache 2 (see here). The write speeds are all as expected, around 170-190 MB/s. However, the read speed is capped at 270 MB/s, although it should reach well above 400 MB/s. This is confusing to me. I've installed the m.2 SSD in the same slot where the original cache module of my T440 (16 GB, by Sandisk) was installed. "My Disk Info" indicates that the drive does operate at "Serial ATA/600" mode, as I first suspected it might be operated at just SATA/300, and therefore it would make sense that the read speed is capped at < 300 MB/s. But this doesn't seem to be the case. Is there anything I can do to improve the performance? Cheers!NZ

Answer:T440: m.2 NGFF SSD speed not as expected

Update: I actually found out that the problem is indeed the mode, I must have looked on the wrong screen  Currently the drive is operated only at SATA300. Is this a limitation of the slot, can it be configured differently? I can't seem to find anything in the UEFI settings anyways.

Will the 128GB cache keep up with everything ? P.S. well it looks like the Crucial SSD is way cheaper if you look the price per gig than the m.2 ssd, but in overall like money the 128GB costs less. The roof of my budget is the M500 which costs like 230$...and this is the highest I will go. And the 128GB costs like 90$Thank you all in advance!

Answer:m.2 ngff 128GB SSD as Cache vs SSD 480GB as HDD

Hi there! I have bought the MyDigital SC 2 128 GB either. And I also have 1 TB Samsung HDD. If you have no problems with your ngff slot (some owners of y510p had problems as the bus connector was missing) I would recommened to buy the 64 GB Mydigital as it is sufficient enough, even to have all the system on it. However, after my expieriences of being confused all the time and loosing time I would prefer to keep the system on HDD and use MyDigital only for caching. The fnet Hybrid software is specialized for this scenario. So you would have an economic solution and the speesboost will satisfy you for a while.Later, when you have another more bucks to spend, you could exchange the HDD with an rather big SSD and migrate your system to the 64 MyDigital / or new installation and than you would be top level!Believe me, I dont know how much RAM you have - as this is essential too, but 64 GB SSD is plenty enough for the first step. On the other hand it is not much price different to the 128 GB Model but I think (not sure) it doesnt affect the data speed as 128 are even slower because two nand-chips have to be overseered by the controler. But as I say: I am not sure about this.Cheers!

It appears from posts I've read that the W540 and possibly even the W541 are compatible with Transcend and MyDigitalSSD 42mm M.2 cards of all capacities and thicknesses, but I am unable to find information regarding the W550S / T550 compatibility specifics. I was able to find at one point where it was referenced that they are compatible only with "Single Sided" 2242 / 42mm M.2 drives, and single / double sided doesn't appear to be a commonly listed spec on these drives. I'm going to ignore the fact that lenovo states it should only be used as a cache drive, as they have always said that for M.2 in thinkpads, and it seems to always work as a boot drive anyways. I'm most interested in adding a 256gb ADATA SP900 2242 drive (fastest consumer one available I can find),  but I'm afraid it might not fit. I'd love to hear some more peoples experiences with these particular thinkpads or with M.2 42mm compatibility in general.

Well I just disassembled the system board and had a look inside. Now I can confirm that the model Envy 15t k000 CTO does not have an m2280 SSD slot although the manual says it have. In fact, there's space for the slot behind the system board and the size should be m2280. But the fact is there's no such an slot. Pity. If you want to add an SSD to the laptop, you have to replace the HDD with an SATA III SSD.  The HDD can replace the optical drive if you want to keep the HDD as the storage.

Hello All! I just installed my new 128GB SSD drive (MyDigitalSSD SC2 Super Cache 2 42mm SATA III 6G M.2 NGFF M2 SSD Solid State Drive 128GB) into my Lenovo Y510p (59406634), but when I turned the laptop back on the drive was not being recognized by the BIOS, in Disk Management, or Device Manager. My Laptop currently has the factory 1 TB HDD with 8GB SSD Cache and it's the only drive that shows up. Is there a setting in the BIOS that enables the M2.NGFF slot or a driver that needs to be downloaded? Is this slot a 42mm slot or should I be using the 50mm drive? Or is the drive just DOA?

Answer:Y510p M.2 NGFF SSD slot - drive not being identified

First of all the SSD has to be 42mm, so you are correct there. If you have installed the SSD correctly, then it should atleast show up in the Disk management as Unallocated space.Could you post a close up picture of the installed drive please? Most probable cause, if the drive is not getting detected is probably DOA. I am not aware of any changes to BIOS or settings in order to enable the SSD, It should normally show up as space in Disk Management, as soon as it is installed.

Hi all, I have a ThinkPad X250 which came with a smart card reader from Lenovo. I don't need the card reader and would like to swap it out for the M.2 subcard for the ability to install a second M.2 SSD. I have found the FRUs for the M.2 subcard (04x3827) and the cable (04x3939), but looking at the pictures of the cable and looking at the motherboard, I can't see anywhere it can physically be connected. Has anyone attempted to do this before, or am I the first to try this? I've already ordered the parts, so worst case I'm $30 out of pocket, but it seems strange that there isn't a corresponding connector on the motherboard anywhere. I can't see Lenovo making two versions of the motherboard where one is for systems without the subcard and one is for systems with it. Does anyone have any insight on this?

the X1 Carbon wifi mPCIe uses a proprietary standard, it is not a regular full or half size mPCIe card. The WWAN slot is a half height mPCIe, but it doesn't support wireless card.

Answer:IdeaPad Y510P: keep or remove 24GB NGFF SSD when swapping 1TB HDD for 128GB SSD

hi batigolazo,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The only purpose of the 24 m.2 NGFF in your system is mainly to cache the HDD,
Since you are using a 128GB SSD then there's no need to cache it using the NGFF.

If you'll Remove it youll save a bit of power in your battery but that will leave you with lesser drive space since at least 20GB will be used by windows.

that leaves you with only a 100 GB Free, you can Format the NGFF and give it a Drive Letter so it will come available on my computer for additional space.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

I'm looking to order a T450s and have a few questions about options when configuring the order: 1080 Display -- Does anyone know if the 1080 display (non-touch) is made by LG or AUO or someone else? There was extensive discussion about the T440s, and people got different brands and the AUO was the preferred brand. 16GB m.2 NGFF SSD -- If I remove this option, and want to add a 3rd party compatible NGFF SSD later, can I do this? 3rd m.2 SSD Slot -- The options are None, 3rd m.2 SSD slot, or Smart Card Reader. If I select the Smart Card Reader option, can I later remove the Smart Card Reader and use it as a 3rd m.2 SSD slot? Or, if I select 3rd m.2 SSD slot and later want to use it for a Smart Card Reader, can I buy a Smart Card Reader and plug it into the slot?

Answer:T450s -- Display, NGFF SSD, Smart Card Reader, and m.2 SSD slots

Lenovo uses different FHD diplays for the T450s: one by AU Optronics and the other by LG Display. However, the T450s uses a different LG display than the T440s. The LG screen of the T450s ("LP140WF3-SPD1") seems to be much better than the LG screen of the T440s. If you remove the 16GB M.2 SSD option, you can add a M.2 SSD later. If you have a device with two M.2 slots, you can't use a M.2 SSD and WWAN at the same time.If you have a device with three M.2 slots, you can only use single-sided M.2 SSDs in the third M.2 slot. Both the SmartCard reader and the third M.2 slot are attached to the mainboard via a flexible flat cable. If you choose the SmartCard reader, the warranty might be lost if you want to use the third M.2 slot, because you have to replace some parts that aren't so-called CRUs (consumer replaceable units).

Hello, I just ordered an E540 and it comes with an Intel 7260-N (not AC) mPCIE and it also has an unpopulated M.2 (NGFF) slot presumably for an mSATA cache option. My question is this, can I replace the wireless card with the 802.11AC equivalent? Reading online that replacing the wireless card can cause boot error, but I'm almost certain that I've seen this card (7260-AC) available as configuration option so...? I'd also like to add an mSATA drive to store my OS on and use a 1TB HDD for media (instead of using SSD then using ODD caddy for 1TB HDD, thus losing optical drive).I know that I can add an mSATA card, but where can I buy one? NGFF is fairly new so no one is selling it, and the ones that are have low capacities for high prices. Thanks, Danz207

NGFF is fairly new so no one is selling it, and the ones that are have low capacities for high prices.Note that mSATA and NGFF (now referred to as M.2) are not the same thing.  M.2 cards have a different connector and can be wired for SATA, PCIe or both.  Your laptop has the M.2 SSD slot wired for SATA, so you'll need to look at M.2 SATA SSD's, not PCIe ones.  Whether or not your machine can boot from the M.2 SSD slot will probably be a case of trial and error given that Lenovo only recommend using the M.2 slot for caching. As for available M.2 SSD products, the appropriate one depends on the available space you have.  I couldn't see which length M.2 SSD's could be used in the hardware owners manual for the E540.  However, generally the shortest is going to be 42mm, also known as 2242.  Currently the only product in that length is the MyDigitalSSD 128GB M.2 SATA SSD.  If the slot is longer, up to 80mm, then that opens up the Crucial M500/M550 M.2 SATA (2280) SSD's as an option, which are available in 120/128/240/256/480/512GB capacities.   The Crucial M500 M.2's are available all over the place.  We are still waiting on Crucial getting the M550 M.2 into regular pro... HelloThanks to all your kind replies I was able to buy this fine laptop which is equipped with a working NGFF slot. As i found a retailer for the 128 Gb MydigitalSSD NGFF 42mm SSDs in Germany I am planning of migrating my OS onto the SSD in order to increase performance. I also have bought Acronis True image 2014, however that program is supposedly not able to clone my 1 TB HD, why i don`t know (the way i read it it has something to to with UEFI (sadly i didn`t know about that issue prior to ordering Acronis)I skimmed through several threads however I have not yet understood how to migrate /clone or do a fresh install onto the NGFF SSD and use my 1TB HD as storage: someone mentions using the onkey recovery function, some thread mentioned a UEFI method (??), another one mentioned using paragon recovery suite, so i am really confused.I found a something on an amazon review using an externals SATA USB adapter, which i ordered, hovewer I cannot locate that thread and the instructions anymore..So, as I am a total newbie in this migration/cloning/SSD procedures: Can anyone give me a clear and easily understandable instruction of how to achieve the following: Installing the new 128 GB SSD as the system for Windows 8 while using the original 1 TB as a storage Hard drive ?Thanks in advance,T.

I have the above laptop with 256gb SSD but I know it will be short of capacity. I've been told I can fit it with 1TB RAM by using either a sandisc 1tb x400m.2 Sata high speed SSD. Or a sandisc x400 1tb 2.5 Sata performance SSD. Please can anyone advise which disc is suitable

Answer:I want to change my 256GB SSD for 1TB

You are doing just fine, ma'am.  I actually have a very similar laptop, the Zbook 15 G3 and mine came with just a hard drive and I have since added an SSD and an M.2 mSSD to it and a video card so I am familiar with what you can do and how you should proceed.  Here is the Service Manual: Manual See the diagram on page 41. The dark rectangular thing is a 2.5 inch hard drive or solid state drive, SATA interface and the thinner rectangular thing to the left of that with the image showing how to turn the screw imposed over it is the smaller M.2 type hard drive:  Your laptop takes either the SATA variety M.2 mSSD disk or the PCi-e (NVME) kind. On that all you need to think is fast (SATA) and faster (NVME). So the two Sandisk options you ask about represent examples of either the bigger dark thing or the smaller drive. If you replace the smaller drive you are going to have to reload the software onto it. If you just add one of the 2.5 inch drives you can just stick it in there and use it for storage and move your documents, pictures, etc. onto it. That is the setup I have. My OS is on a 256 gig NVME M.2 and then I have a 500 gig SATA 2.5 inch SSD for storage. Plenty for me, but you feel you need 1 TB. So, moving on, the issue for your adding a 2.5 inch drive is whether HP provided you with the mounting hardare which you would need to install the drive. Since my laptop was delivered with a 2.5 inch drive, it included that hardware. Since ... Read more

I know for a fact that a 128 GB SSD can be installed. But I would really like that extra space. Many people report to be having trouble with 256 GB ssds (possibly power issues). Can anyone with a T450s testify as to the feasibility of installing a 256GB M.2 SSD (and perhaps using it as a boot drive for a second OS)? If nobody can confirm that it works (i was looking at the 256GB super boot from MyDigitalSSD) then I guess I'll just spring for the 128.

Could someone recommend a 256GBSSD drive for T61, for example will TP 256GB Fde Solid State Drive Part# 43N3417 work on this Thinkpad model? Thanks in advance,Leonid

Answer:256GB SSD drive for T61?

Leonid,I found your T61 specs here: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-t61/4507-3121_7-32442903.html You do have a SATA HD, but I'm pretty sure the T61 is 2.5". The 43N3417 is 1.8". There might be an adapter to fill in the space between 1.8" & 2.5"??? Here is the Lenovo page for the drive:http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?GroupID=38&Code=43N3417&current-category-id=2478535BAB3C417CA9D77F5867D31462&ProductName=ThinkPad%20laptops They appear to be widely available on the web; check the usual suspects (Amazon, Froogle, cnet, etc.). Some places have it less than Lenovo. Good luck. I am looking at this drive too. However, I would like to know the performance Specs HDTUNE, etc.; the ones you might see on Tom's Hardware. The FDE capability is very compelling for my application.

Question: Kingston 256GB USB

Hi I recently bought
Kingston 256GB USB it comes with a default exFAT format is it possible to format it using FAT32 the reason of buying it is to load the images on it and play it back on digital photo frames which unfortunately doesnt detect exFAT. I have a laptop with windows 7 and 64 bit

Answer:Kingston 256GB USB

Hello Anandwadhwa, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could, but you would have to break into 32GB partitions (3 primary (Dk. Blue) and the rest logical (Lt. blue). You would start off by shrinking the 256GB drive (256-32=224*1024=229376) by 229376 MB leaving 32GB. Next, keep shrinking each one by one leaving 32GB per partition. (1GB=1024MB).

You will also not be able to have file's that are 4GB+ in size on a FAT32 partition.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

My bro bought me some new HD and it's suppose to be 256 GB but only 31.5 GB's showing up! My comp is a HP Pavillion Media Center 2002 120GB We don't know what's going wrong. First we put the cd in, installed the drivers and we never saw the hd under my computer and then he tried to boot the cd since he said that's what we were suppose to do and my comp just won't boot that cd. Anyways he moved something on the HD and it still didn't work but when I woke up the next morn I turned on my comp and went to my computer, there it was but it only had 31.5 GBs. So now we don't know why it won't give me the rest of my space.

Question: 256GB SSD Option?

I see that Lenovo is now selling the 256GB SSD by itself for $849.  However, it appears that the largest SSD hard drive they are selling as an option when purchasing a new computer is 128GB.  Any idea on when Lenovo will start allowing 228GB SSD's to be put into newly purchased T400s computers?  Ty

Answer:256GB SSD Option?

Lenovo will offer that soon on the optional hard drive section.  But I highly recommend a Crucial 256GB which you can buy for far less than Lenovo's 256SSD

Yes if you are doing a complete fresh install. Make sure you use Win 7 to format the SSD so that the sector allocations are correctly aligned. Also make sure ACPI is enabled in the BIOS.

Hi

I'm curious about it, but there should be an explanation!

It seems that a 512 GBSSD (ex Plextor M3P) s slower that a 256 GB one! Is that correct?
I mean the more GB on a SSD te slower it is?

paulo

Answer:512GB vs 256GB SS performance!

Usually, it's the other way around. The larger the drive, the better it performs. Are you comparing identical drives, with identical firmware?

Is anyone having problems with streaming video and audio? My paltry iPad can stream the videos without a flaw. Why can't my latest generation Dell XPS 13 stream the video with getting choppy audio and video at regular intervals? The XPS 13 was twice as much as my iPad.
I am not a troll. I'm a Dell employee that has purchased this laptop via the employee purchase program.
