Lenovo Thinkpad T500 will turn on for roughly 3 seconds, then turn off and stay off.

Question: Lenovo Thinkpad T500 will turn on for roughly 3 seconds, then turn off and stay off.

So I had a problem with my T500's backlight initially and long story short, disassembling the computer has now caused the problem in the title. Whenever I plug in the battery/charger and push the power button, the fan will spin and the hdd will whirr a bit, but then after about 3 seconds, the fan will stop and the hdd will click off and cease whirring. The computer will no longer respond to the power button regardless of how many times nor how long the power button is held. I'm looking directly at the wires that carry power. Everything seems to be plugged in. I did the lenovo power trick (IE the 10 one second presses followed by the 30 second long press) and the computer does the 1-3-3-1 beep when I take out the RAM. The monitor is not plugged into it in any way, shape, or form. I do not know if this affects it. However, I have tried attaching the monitor and it still does this. Is there a piece that may have been knocked loose or something? I'm willing to try anything right now because at this point it's a literal brick now.

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Thinkpad T500 will turn on for roughly 3 seconds, then turn off and stay off.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi npesina, welcome to the forums,

there could be different reasons for the system behaving the way you describe, my suggestions;

remove all hard, SSD and optical drives to see if you experience the same,
remove all RAM, without replacing the drives, and test to see if you receive a system beep code,
remove all components which had previously been removed to test again.

The ultimate test would be to remove everything attached to the mainboard including the CMOS (BIOS) battery excluding the power socket, CPU and the fan. When you attach the power cable the system should come to life, the fan should run and beep codes sound. After that its really just a case of putting the system back together one component at a time testing inbetween each component replacement, leave the main battery and CMOS battery until last to save having to always connect / disconnect the keyboard in order to turn the system on.

If at any point you experience the same issue as now it may well be that the component you replaced at that point or it's attachment socket on the mainboard is the culprit.

Can someone tell me if there is something wrong with my X240. It has always done this so I am not sure if it is normal, but I never had this issue on older X series laptops. When I press the power button, if the machine was either shutdown, or hibernating, it takes 20 seconds before the Lenovo logo shows and it starts doing anything. Then it boots windows in seconds (I have an SSD) and I have no issues. Is this normal? It does not seem normal to me. I already upgraded the BIOS to latest. It doesn't matter which operating system I have installed. The BIOS is also set to quick boot. Enabling or disabling secure boot or UEFI mode does not do anything. Thanks

I had it for nearly 2 years,Lenovo Y50-70 Touch -2 days ago while playing games on it, I smell a chemical smell coming from it so I immediately shut it down just in case. The next time I turn it on, it was fine the backlit keyboard glow red as usual but no display, and now it shut down after 4 seconds (with the fan running) whenever I turn it on except, sometimes It stay on (but still no display and no fan running).I got no experience into opening pc and such, I I tried opening it up and remove the dust that built us by quite a bit and tried to locate where the chemical smell was from, I though it was probably from the Fan or Coolers as it seems more strong there but not sure. After trying to turn the laptop on a few time the strong smell kind of dissipate a lot, and smell weaker.I been having a hard time trying to pinpoint just which part of the laptop is needed to replace. So if anyone could help me in the right direction it would be great. I just hope it wont have to buy a whole new motherboard x.xAlso idk if thats helpful information, but the first year playing games was fine, but the 2nd year and the laptop kind of overheated so I tried to cut down a bit and the fans were making more noises than ever. Especially when opening a new game or google chrome.

Answer: Laptop turn on for 4 seconds (No Display, Fan noise) and then turn off

A chemical smell to me tells me it's likely a failing/burnt out capacitor...It would be best to have it checked out at a shop...

Answer:Lenovo Z500 turns off few seconds after turn on. It starts for the second time.

Since the Z500 is not supported and by the fact that Win 10 might run at one time. The issue might be due to a recent update of Windows. Try restoring to a previous date where you think you do not have any issues at all.

Can you post your computer specs, along with your operating system, your external gpu name Is this an external gpu or an internal PCI-E video card?

Can you also post the wattage of your power supply.

At a guess I would say your power supply isn't powerful enough to run the card. "2 seconds off" Is this a new card and what was the reason for the change? On the black screen error this sounds like a basic driver error.

In either case remove 'external' video card from your computer, download the latest drivers for your os and internal video card from the manufacturers website go to; control panel, programs and delete ALL video card related drivers then run this program.

http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Sweeper_d6171.html

Delete ALL drivers.

Turn on your onboard video card in bios

Now install the downloaded driver for your on board video card, does your onboard work now?
EDIT OOPS! Welcome to the forum!

After I finished working on my laptop I closed the lid, and went to bed. The next day I open it only to find it turned off. Thinking nothing of this I try to turn it on, but instead I get three beeps and a black screen. When I try pressing the button again I get one beep and the screen remains the same.  My laptop, also mentioned in the title, is a Lenovo ThinkPad T61. Please help me find a solution. Thank You, Crystal Park

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Won't Turn On

Assuming your system has nVidia graphics, it sounds like you have a failed GPU. There is a very long discussion about this problem, and the only real solution is a system board replacement. Since an updated nVidia chip was only produced for 3months, machines (or system boards) with the improved chip are rare and difficult to find. Most people consider doing an Intel conversion, which would require replacing your nvidia based board with an Intel board, and matching heatsink. I recommend you read the last five pages of the topic posted by Mark Lenovo in this forum, we've discussed this at great length there and it covers most of your low cost options.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Won't Turn On

The 1 long, 2 short beeps error sounds like a classic case of nVidia failure. This effects units with nVidia graphics built before 08/08, but most failed units date from 08/02 and prior (2008/febuary). Without a lot more information from you, I can't be sure if you have an effected unit or not, but it's highly probable. If you would like some help fixing it, the first thing I'd need is your full model and serial (send in private message, serials aren't allowed in forum). Also, just so your aware, "if" you do have a failed nVidia chip, it would require replacing the system board to fix it.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X240 that suddenly turned off whilst I was using it. It was charging at the time, and I'm fairly certain that the laptop itself didn't overheat. I've tried disconnecting the battery and ac adapter, holding the power button, connecting them back on and pressing the power button but nothing. It would be great if someone could give me some help, thanks.

My laptop doesn't turn on anymore. Here is what I have to do to turn it on (I tried many sequence of steps, but this is the only one that works every time):-Disconnect battery and CMOS battery-Press power button ten times, then press and hold for 30 seconds-Connect power adaptor and press power button At this point, my laptop turns on, but I have to reset my time and date in BIOS (of course this is normal since I disconnected the CMOS batter). Once I turn my laptop on, my batter shows that it is charging and it is at 100%. I dual boot and both Ubuntu and Windows 8.1 show the batter charging at 100%.As soon as I unplug my AC adaptor, the laptop turns off again and I have to repeat the sequence above again to turn it on. This happens consistently. However, if I shutdown my laptop the right way without unplugging the AC adaptor at any point, it turns back on normally. This happens of both my Linux and Windows OS. What I've tried:-Uninstalling battery drivers and restarting my laptop-Updating to the latest power management drives from this Lenovo websiteI also read that some HP laptops have software issues that doesn't allow the laptop to switch from AC adaptor mode to battery mode. I believe this might be the issue I'm seeing, but I couldn't find a way to check this setting. I don't think this last detail is related, but when I shutdown Windows, I see a message saying:Closing 1 app and restartingAsusSGPLusBTServerThis app is preventing you f rom restartingAlo... Answer:How do I turn on the wireless on my Lenovo T400 Thinkpad?

Two things to check:
1. There is a small slide switch along one edge of your ThinkPad that turns the wireless (and Bluetooth, etc.) radios on/off. Make sure it's ON. You should see a green indicator.
2. Use the Fn-F5 key combination to bring up a software applet. Verify that "801.11 Wireless radio" is ON.

If that doesn't work then make sure you have the correct device drivers installed for wireless support. Run ThinkVantage System Update to download/install them if necessary.

Before installation, first make sure hotkey driver is installed , then go and press Fn+F5 to enable the Bluetooth, thereafter install the Bluetooth driver.Hope it helps.

Hi guys, I need your help to fix this computer. I have experience as a technician, but I'm stuck trying to fix this laptop. When I turn on the laptop, it does not matter if it's on battery only, plugged it (with or without battery), it only turns the Bluetooth, the one that looks like a z, and the battery (green because it's charged) lights on. A blank screen last for about 10 to 15 minutes, and then the Thinkpad logo appears and everything goes as normal. I've done:-Update the BIOS-Removed battery and press the On button for 30 seconds.-I did the procedure described in the link below and still nothinghttp://jackngblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/solved-slow-bootup-with-blank-screen-on.html I even disable the Intel AMT in the BIOS thinking that it could be the issue, but still nothing. I've googled the tittle I wrote and a lot of things appears, but not exactly this issue, the one that was near was the third one I tried. I searched here and I did not find anything like it yet. Please help, Thank you very much for any guide.

Hello. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E420 that today stopped turning on. I've tried just about everything (reseating HD/RAM/CMOS Battery/etc.) with no luck. I tried unpluggin everything, holding the power button, and doing the thing where you press the power button 11 times and hold for 30 seconds also with no luck. I called Lenovo and they didn't seem to interested in helping me even though this is a known issue that Lenovo has ackoleded in a previous post. I'm not interested in paying any repair fees as it's Lenovo's issue. I'm not paying for their mistakes. Any help is appriciated.

Hello,  I'm having some trouble with turning on my laptop. The problem originally started when some keys on my keyboard stopped working. I cleaned the keys, restarted my laptop, tried a previous restore point and then did a hard reset after nothing worked to fix my laptop.  After hard resetting, I tried turning on my laptop and it did not turn on. So far, I've plugged in my laptop into the adaptor, plugged the adaptor directly into the wall outlet, and removed the battery and plugged in the laptop. The one thing I have noticed with my laptop is that when I plug in the adaptor, the battery and sleep lights turn on for a moment, then the sleep light turns off, and the battery light will stay on momentarily but then it will blink off after a few seconds. What else should I do? Thank you

I have a T500 running Win7 that was having fan and battery issues. I opened her up and reseated fan. All was good, and heard the fan spin up, but the laptop will no longer stay on for more than a minute. I replaced the battery, and reseated the CMOS battery. Still no luck. Try to get into BIOS but I can only enter a portion of the date before she goes down. All indicator lights are off, she is basically like my ex wife in bed. I have to remove the battery, remove power for 20 seconds and reinsert to even get it to power on again, but she doesn't last long. What gives?

I have a T500 with an AT&T wireless WAN card.  There is an AT&T SIM card in the SIM card slot, but when I attempt to use Access Connections to "Power On Wireless WAN Radio" ... nothing happens.  It just remains in an "Off" state.  If I try to use the "Mobile Broadband Connect" tool it attempts to use Access Connections to bring the device on-line, but fails after a couple of minutes of trying ... presumably it's failing to power the radio on. The "Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard Network Adapter" device shows up as "Working" in device manager", and I have a corresponding and enabled network adapter which uses that device, but of course it shows up as "Network cable unplugged". I'm running Vista Business x64 with Vista SP2 installed, and have already made sure that all my T500 drivers / BIOS etc are up to date. Anyone seen this before, or have any suggestions? Moderator note: Type added to subject line for clarity. I was at my desk browsing the web this morning on my T500 when, without any warning, it turned itself off.  I haven't been able to start the machine since then. The machine has a tendancy to overheat if I don't crank up the fan speed, so at first I thought the thermal protection system might have shut the machine down.  But, I hadn't forgotten crank up the fan speed.   The machine was warm (but not hot) to the touch.  I waited a minute or so and hit the power button, but nothing happened.  Then I noticed that the green LED "plug" indicator was not lit, even though the machine was plugged into the wall socket.   I tried unplugging the power adapter and starting the machine from the battery (which is fully charged) - no signs of life. I removed the battery and tried using the power adapter only.  No go.   I also tried pulling the main battery and power adapter, pressing the I/O button about 10 times, then holding the button down for 30 seconds and releasing, then plugging in the power adapter and hitting the I/O button again.  Still nothing.   Finally, I have tried removing the power adapter and the main battery, disconnecting the CMOS battery, and letting the machine sit for 20-30 minutes.  Then pressing the I/O button 10 times, holding the button for 30 seconds, reconnecting the CMOS battery, and power adapter and hitting the I/O button again.  That did not work either.&nb... Hallo everybody.

I'm trying to repair this Satellite A60-712; it came to me without power supplier, but I've found a compatible one and it seems to work: CC IN LED lights up and battery starts to charge.

My problem is that this notebook starts for a while, heatsink begins to rotate, all LEDs light up normally but, suddenly everything turns off after 2-3 seconds. I've observed that this machine has only a free RAM slot and have been noticed that it has an integrated on motherboard memory module; could be this the problem? Or is possible some other reason?

Could someone help me?
Thanks.

> it came to me without power supplier, but I've found a compatible one
Can you please test it with an original Toshiba AC/DC adaptor? Does happen the same?

If the notebook has already integrated memory on mainboard there is no problem there. You can also use the notebook without additional RAM module.

In worst case you need professional help from an authorized service provider. :(

SL510 was running and went to sleep. Upon wake, desktop appeared as it was left before sleeping, then machine turned off (hard off).  When power button is depressed, power light/fans/optical light turn on as normal but then shuts off within 3 seconds.  Twice when attempting to turn on machine, it displayed splash screen and began to load windows then shut off suddenly and went back to ~3 second on before off again.  Took battery/AC power out and held down power button to drain, no change.  Also no change with just AC power/no battery.   Have not pulled CMOS battery to reset BIOS, will try that next.  Any suggestions or keys to depress during power-on for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated...

Answer:SL510 will not turn on.. on for 3 seconds then off.

I figured it out.  After trying everything (complete power drain, RAM out, one DIMM in either slot, HD out, with or without battery, etc.), I unplugged the fan and turned it on and it worked, displaying a "FAN ERROR" message.  I plugged the fan back in and it's working solid.  Power cycled it many times, sleep mode many times, fan is working as it should too.  Hope this can help someone else  :0)

Do you have any ideas why this is doing this?

Is it a simple fix?

Wait a moment. If I understand you right your notebook won?t start with battery only. Is that right?

For the last few days I have had a problem where my McAfee firewall won't turn on or stay on. I did some research on this and saw that it was an issue other people were having related to malware.

I did a full system scan with McAfee, and nothing was found. I also did a full system scan with Malwarebytes, and that turned up a few culprits which it removed, but the problem remains. If I open up McAfee and go to the firewall and click "turn on", it immediately clicks itself back off regardless.

Then I tried turning on the Windows firewall, and was unable to do that either. I actually got an error message that popped up and said it was unable to change some of my settings.

Here are the logs, with GMER, I was only able to select services, registry and files. Everything above that was not available to be checked or not.

Thank you in advance for the assistance.

My relatively new Yoga 3 Pro (4 months old) inbuild screen goes blacl/turns off after 30 seconds unless I am activity typing or moving the mouse around.  The screen still seems to be on and I can see the back-light but the screen is completely black.  I have to hit a key or click the trackpad for it to come back on.  This happens no mattter what program/app I am using or even if I am just displaying the desktop.  It will even happen when viewing youtube videos or reading a pdf.   While I have not tried it, I am pretty sure it it will do this when doing a presentation unless I move through the slides within 30 seconds.  I have adjuster the timer for the screen to turn off in Power & System settings (tried everything from 2 min to never for both battery and plugged-in) and have disabled Harmony Paper Display (using the Fn+Esc)  with no effect.   The screen just goes black after 30 seconds no matter what I do.  Does anyone know how to stop this from happening. This is really annoying and pretty much makes the computer useless for work.

Answer:Yoga 3 Pro screen turn off after 30 seconds

Did you ever find a solution to this?  I have the same thing happening and nothing I do in the power settings make any difference.  It happens to laptop display or if I am plugged into an external monitor.

Answer:My Computer shuts off a few seconds after i turn it on

Hi Millurn welcome to the site.

seem odd that they Would BOTH not work. Might be the CPU might be at fault here. I am surprised that it does not work as everything is compatible.

It also sounds like it might be the PSU. Can you get hold of another 400W plus PSU and see if that works. If so then you know what the Issue is.

hope this helps

For these last couple of months i've had issues with BSODs. I blamed it on the RAMs and returned them to the store. While i was waiting for them to return, i borrowed my brother's RAMs, and it turned out i still got the BSODs. Anyway, i fixed the problem a few days ago when i updated most of my drivers.

Today i got my RAMs back. I switched them out with my brother's RAMs and booted the computer. it looked fine the first 2-5 seconds but then it turns off and boots again by itself a few seconds later.

I've had a similar issue before, and it turned out it was my heatsink which wasnt proberbly mounted. I checked it, and it might have been loose but i managed to fix it and now it should be mounted correctly. Still, the computer reboots after a couple of seconds.

Ive checked all the cables to see it any of them were loose
Ive tried to plug the videocard into another plug
Ive taken the CPU out and back in
Ive tried to switch out the RAMs one by one

Do you have any suggestions ???
Thanks in advance.

HELP!! I have a laptop that will turn on enough to boot to the Win XP screen, then shuts off. Once it shuts off, it will not turn back on until about an hour or so later. There's a little blue light in the front that will blink like it's in hibernation, but it refuses to turn back on! Oh yeah, we checked the power cord (fine) and also the battery (also fine) Any ideas??:

Answer:Laptop will turn on briefly, shut off and stay off...

Overheating would cause this ...if the heatsink is plugged up with dust and then the CPU would overheat and would not startup until it had cooled down enough
Also make sure you hear the fan spinning on startup

When I set the resolution on display settings to the max on the slider scale, then select apply and ok and select to keep this setting, every thing works as it should until I shut down and restart the laptop.Upon restart or startup, the resolution goes back to a lower resolution and all is distorted, then I have to go back into control panel, personalizing, display settings and reset the resolution to max. This happens almost 100% of the time but not always. Very annoying behavior..  Any help would be appreciated to keep the resolution set and stop this tiring/annoying routine  System is Vista.. Chuck

So working on my stepmom's laptop and she said she couldn't get the computer to turn on any longer.  I found if I held the power button the light on the right side would blink orange and white alternating.  I wasn't able to precisely figure out what that meant through google for this particular model, but saw on some other models it was a sign of a dead/dying battery.  So I started with a battery replacement.  At this point the battery didn't signify that it was charging at all and when I pressed the power button with the AC adapter plugged in the light on the right would flash once and then nothing.  If I held the power button down the light on the right would flash until released.  I tried the Fn + PWR and nothing other than the right light blinking once and then turning off.  So next I bought a new Dell AC power/cable charger (I'm not sure the correct term).  Same results.
Next I bought the DC power input jack replacement part and put that in.  Same results.
I bought replacement RAM.  Same results.
Today I tore the entire thing down cleaned it up and there was very little dust throughout the heat sink assembly.  Cleaned up the factory thermal compound and put some Noctua thermal paste down in it's place.  I also took the opportunity to change the CMOS battery out with an Energizer 2032 battery.  When I put it all back together I plugged it in with the new RAM, battery, and ... I'm wondering how to schedule a T500 to automatically turn it self on in the morning using BIOS settings? Also, I don't see any options to do that in the current BIOS, is there a update that has the feature? My school system has hundreds of Dells that have this feature, I'm assuming that Lenovo must have it too.

Answer:How to schedule a T500 to automatically turn on in the morning via BIOS?

Don't know if there is a BIOS feature per se to do this,  but the Vista/Win7 Task Scheduler can be set up to bring the system out of sleep (and hibernate, which is as close as you can get to powered off) and run a task that you specify at the times you desire.  It will only work if the computer is in sleep or hibernate modes, however; not when it is shutdown.  Right click on Computer, click on 'manage'; then Task Scheduler.  Choose the 'Create a task' option (but not the 'Basic Task', since it won't present all the options) and on the 'conditions' tab choose 'wake the computer to run this task'.

Hello... let me state the problem.

Problem: Computer shuts down randomly. I press the power switch, but it does not turn the computer on. I have to wait a while and press power switch, and it turns on, or I switch the voltage switch (red switch) on the back of the PSU a few times, press power, switch voltage switch back to 110V and then power switch and it turns on normally. (Probably not good for it) It then runs for like 1 hour --> 1 day and turns off randomly again, where i must repeat.

Reason?: I use to never leave my computer on for longer than a day. I never downloaded anything large for it to be left on overnight. During chirstmas I got a Dual Layer DVD-Burner and installed that. I have been leaving my computer on for weeks at a time downloading large files now. Everything was fine for about 3 weeks. Near the end of Janurary it first happened. I didn't think much about it, just turned it back on and it worked fine. About 2 weeks after that it occured again: Now it happens pretty much every day with the added bonus of the power switch not responding for about 1 --> 5 mins.

Possible Problem: The thing I find most insteresting is the fact that after it shut's down, it will not start up for about 1 mins (power switch doesn't respond for a little bit). I can not tell if it is because:
1) I started leaving my computer on for weeks at a time and now Mobo is burning out or PSU?
2) Because I installed the Dual Layer DVD-Burner, and ... Read more

Answer:Computer doesn't turn on for a few seconds? PSU Problem?

Sounds like it could be the PSU. I had similar problems in getting the bugger to start up and swapping out the PSU seemed to fix it. I've also had problems with the powerup button getting stuck and causing similar symptoms, but with it shutting down my guess would be PSU. Good luck!

Just aquired an Inspiron 5759 which is great and does everything I want apart from one thing - it takes an eternity (10 seconds) to show anything on the screen and as it doesn't have a power light I thought it wasn't turning on the first few times I pressed the power button so obviously pressed it more times than I should have!
I have seen the thread about switching the light at the front to show the HDD activity but as you have to press the fn and H key every time you turn it on it doesn't really help.
This is a real issue for me so is there any way to make it boot quicker?

Answer:5759 takes 10 seconds to turn on-is that an issue?

* Are you booting with the AC adapter connected to the 2015 laptop?* Disconnect all external peripherals (USB hard drive, USB keys, printer, etc.) from the laptop to see if the boot time is faster* The front left LED also indicates power and battery status. You can also turn on Caps Lock LED to verify that the system is on

built my computer over 4 years ago, woke up one day and my computer would only turn on for a couple seconds before shutting down. stripped it down to:

MoBo: Soyo Dragon Plus 2 (ATX, 478 socket)
PSU: 350w w/ X-dreamer case
CPU: 2.6Ghz Intel P4

still had same problem. replaced PSU w/ 400w, same problem, replaced CPU w/ 2.4Ghz P4, same problem. thought it was a bad CPU because when start it up w/o the 4 pin connecter plugged into the motherboard, it runs the fans w/o powering down.

what am i missing?

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

replaced older CPU fan on AMD processor now it doesn't turn on and stay onhmmm...being the 'smart' guy i am, i decided "hey, there's a new AMD cpu fan that came with the processor, let me replace the older one (that i used from the previous AMD i upgraded o..."well, i replaced it. hooked up the 3 pin fan wire no problem. And, it won't boot up. there does still seem to be power ..that's for sure. because If i power up it'll turn the fan and the lights on the case, then it all goes out, fan stops also of course.for me to repeat the above, i must unplug ac power from power supply and try again to power on with power button. the same occurs again.i have a suspicion of what might be causing this. Overheating?I did not apply thermal grease between the new fan /heatsink and the CPU.could this be the problem causing this?but, if the above is the case, then shouldn't it stay on longer, at least until the cpu would get hot?i hope the CPU is ok and not fried?!THE power supply is only about 1 month old. a Corsair 450VX and has been working great.thanks for any help...Karim

Answer:replaced older CPU fan on AMD processor now it doesn't turn on and stay on

ok, today i pulled the processor out, and blew any dust off of it...then i reinstalled the processor, and applied the thermal grease i purchased today on top and seated the heatsink on top and secured it in place.i tried to boot up, at least the power stays on now..and I think i hear the harddrive also, however  I see nothing on my display and don't hear it post....maybe i just have to let the grease 'set' dry....and then it should workwhat you all think?thanksKarim

I have a Inspiron 15R SE and i've already had this problem before:
The notebook stay at the Dell's logo.
To resolve this i followed that already known steps: Go to setup or boot Options, by F2 or F12, and..
But now, the pc stays on Dell's logo but press F2 or F12 doesnt do the pc Góes to setup or boot Options, it just appears the blue bar and continues like this..
What can i do?
Thank you.

Answer:Notebook doesnt turn on - stay at the Dell's logo

Start by unplugging the system, removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 sec.  Remove and reinstall both memory modules and try again on AC only (no battery).
If the system will POST on no battery, the battery is faulty and will need to be replaced.
If the system still won't POST, remove the hard drive.  If it'll then complete POST, the hard drive is bad and will need to be replaced.
If the system still won't power up, the mainboard is bad -- and as above, will need to be replaced.

I was using my t500 computer and picked it up to move it and apparently the power cord was frayed because it sparked and then shut down my computer. Now when I turn it on, the power supply (or battery) light as well as the light to the immediate left of the battery light come on, it sounds as though it's booting, the DVD drive spins and opens, but the computer never boots and the screen never comes on at all. Any thoughts about what I can do? Thank you.

Answer:T500 power cord frayed and sparked, now computer won't turn on

sounds like something short circuited, if you have warranty then you should use it now. If you don't have warranty, you can get the post warranty warranty by calling Lenovo customer service.

Ok for about 3 days now when I am typing no matter where or what program I am using my cursor will disappear for roughly 5 seconds and while it is gone I can't type or anything but as soon as it comes back all is normal. I noticed that when it does occur the tab I am working in gets un-highlighted around the edges like I clicked on another tab(I'm not sure what the name for that is sorry) I tried the mouse settings and the "hide cursor while typing" box isn't checked. I have uninstalled every new piece of software I installed and went through Microsoft support for 3 hours just for them to do an in place install/upgrade which the guy said he knew would fix it because it has to be corrupted system file somewhere. Well it didn't fix it and I don't want to chat with support for another afternoon and I can't find any solutions when I search so please any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a Lenovo T61 which I purchased in July of 2008.  Two years later I still have the same battery ( a 9 Cell), I always leave it in the optimize battery life setting and almost always leave the computer pluged in.  This week I used the computer sans the powercord and was getting roughly 2 and a half hours depending on my screen brightness.  The next day I turned on my computer (again sans power cord) and the computer would not turn on not even for one second. So I plugged in the computer.  It now lists the battery as 73% charged but as in poor condition.  My computer will not remain on at all if the cord is removed.  I am well aware that batteries lose power over time, however I find it incrediably suspcious that a battery would have a 2 and a half hour charge one day and then die the next day.  Is there a way reboot the battery?  Or at the very least can someone explain the massive one day detriaton of the battery?

Answer:T61 Battery: Charge dropped from over 2 hours to roughly 2 seconds in one day

Hello, i just wanted to know some insight on the t500. I found one that im thinking of buying, mainly cause i can upgrade ram to 8gb and it has newer stuff like sata instead of pata for the hdd and cd drive. But one thing im worried about is , this screen flicker i have been hearing about going to be a major problem. The t500 has switchable graphics so i head that the intel integrated gfx has the flicker problem but the deticated ati card in the laptop doesn't so i could run just off of the ati card and not the intel chipset. I heard that doing this pulls more power but i don't CARE, i just want a newer laptop that is faster than my t41 and it wont destroy the bank for a quality laptop.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T500

Screen flicker is most pertinent to the LED backlit models but is only visible if you are sensitive to flicker and only in certain viewing conditions. If you get a CCFL backlit one, you should not experience any flicker, but the backlight will be dimmer

Answer:lumia 800 wont charge or turn on, just vibrates every 20 seconds.

When was the last time you charged it?
If the battery was severely depleted it can take a good 2-3 hours of the vibrating before it actually starts up. Just leave plugged in using a wall adapter (not computer)

Hey guys, I really need some help here! My laptop is not turning on. The power light turns on for a few seconds but then it turns off again. The fan doesn't turn on either. I know it's not the battery because I switched the battery out with my brother;s and it's still not working. I also tried to just put it on the charger and it doesn't work then either! Of course my laptop is no longer in warranty so please help me out!!

Answer:Laptop won't turn on but the power light stays on for a few seconds

Hi E. Trader,
Welcome to the Community.
Remove any peripheral devices that are connected to the computer.
Please unplug the battery and the adaptor, press and hold power button for 10 seconds and then plugin the adaptor and turn on the computer. If you get light on the power button, we would be able to run a test on the computer to isolate the issue. Instructions on how to run the test are mentioned on the link below:
http://dell.to/i5zbDR
During the test you would get a screen with solid colors and that time please press “Y”. The test result should be an error code or beeps (if nothings come up on the screen).
If there is no light on the laptop, system board needs replacement.
Thanks & RegardsManshu S#iworkfordell

I have a ThinkPad T500 running Ubuntu 15.10 and it currently has 2x1 GB of Micron DDR3 RAM, I wanted to upgrade the RAM, and bought G.Skill 2x4 GB. When I installed the G.Skill, my machine won't recognize it. From the specs that I am reading, the only difference is in clock speed, the G.Skill has a higher clock speed, but should clock down to match my machine.  Any suggestions?

Faster generally will not matter. Is it possible you bought low (1.35) voltage?

Hi there, My personal laptop is Lenovo ThinkPad T500, and its main specifications as follows: - Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9400 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2).- 4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM).- ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 with 256MB. I really need to upgrade the RAM in order to work with SharePoint 2010 and Windows Server 2008 R2. and, my major question is: * How many memory slots do I have in my Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ??? I read on (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-55644#t) that the maximum memory size for T500 is 8 GB. So, in case if my Lenovo ThinkPad T500 laptop has only two memory slots, then, I will have to buy 2 memory cards of ThinkPad 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 Low-Halogen SO-DIMM in order to get the 8 GB.... and I have to throw away my current memory cards... My another question is: * How easy is it to install/remove RAM in Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ??? Sorry for asking the second question, but I have never ever dealt with hardware before. I would greatly appreciate your inputs. Thanks for your consideration of my request, and I very much look forward to hearing from you soon !

Answer:Some Issues with Upgrading RAM on Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ?

The T500 only has two RAM slots, so upgrading to 8GB would mean that your existing two 2GB modules would need to be removed. Replacing the RAM is simple; remove the four screws for the palmrest and the memory slots will be right under the palmrest.Refer to the HMM for more detailed instructions: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70068.html

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T500 Recovery disc

since it is within 2 weeks of you receiving the laptop, if you can lenovo support in Australia, they will ship you out the Recovery media for your system for free usually within 2 to 3 days, just tell them that your recovery partition is corrupted and you were not able to make the recovery media in time.

My brother has a ThinkPad T500 which has suddenly been afflicted by a reboot loop. He was watching a video on it, then he went to eat breakfast. When he returned to his laptop, it had restarted and was running some Startup Recovery process. After that finished, it just went on to continue the boot, loading up Windows. Unfortunately, 30 seconds to a minute after logging in, it restarts again, and it just keeps on going. Some times, it will reboot before it has even given a chance to log in. We even tried to restore the system to factory settings, according to the instructions, by pressing the ThinkPad blue button, but it turned out that option was not available. Can anyone help? Have some idea? We would be very grateful.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad T500 on reboot loop

Do you have a Windows 7 disk? You could reinstall off of that.It is nice he got to keep the notebook though :).You've been helped by a 14 year old.

I'm running a lenovo T500 thinkpad, and it's relatively new - that is, I bought it last winter - but recently, I've been having what seems to be a hardware problem. Or, at least, that's what the guys over in the Virus and Malware removal section are telling me:

Because from time to time, my laptop has decided it's just going to go ahead and shut itself down. Completely. No lights, no nothing - pressing the power button doesn't do anything. I almost always have it plugged into a socket, and that light won't show either - I've found that taking the battery out of the laptop and letting it sit for a little before putting the battery back in usually gets the laptop to work again.

It's only happened recently, but it's happened twice in the past week - which is a little more than bothersome, since the antivirus I have runs a full scan when it happens.

I've noticed that my laptop gets a little hot - not too hot that I can't touch it - but as far as I know, I've never had a problem with overheating or anything similar, which leaves me in the dark about this entire thing.

I'm really hoping that this doesn't turn out to be a hardware problem; I should still be on warranty, but I'm a little - okay, that's a lie, I'm pretty damn - scared to try and open up my laptop and fiddle with anything.

Hope this is enough information for someone out there to give me some sort've idea of wha... Read more

Hi Forum,My personal laptop is Lenovo THINKPAD T500 2055, and its main specifications are as follows:- Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9400 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2)- 8 GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module 4 GB (2 x 4 GB) 1066MHz DDR31066/PC38500 DDR3 SDRAM SoDIMM Kingston.- 2 GB Intel Turbo Memory hard drive cache.- 160 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm.- ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 with 256MB.- Windows 8 Enterprise (x64). I have been using it since (01.01.2009), and thankfully it has been working fine without any issues. I am using my laptop just for Internet surfing, Watching movies and Youtube clips, and a few times I use it for small and simple programming tasks. So, Basically I do NOT use my laptop for gaming nor 3D work AT ALL. My problem precisely and concisely is that most recently my laptop heats up very quickly and most of the time it shuts down itself. So, Is there any way to find out if the fan is working or not without opening the laptop?2) What are your suggestions to solve this problem?3) Apart from buying a laptop cooler, Are there any technical or cleaning tips to tackle this heating problem?4) In case if I bought Intel 330 Series Solid-State Drive and removed my old (Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm), Would that help in the heating problem? ... Answer:Lenovo THINKPAD T500: Best ways to tackle the heating problem ?

If you have never cleaned the cooling system then that would be a first step. Its the easiest and cost is zero or a few dollars. You need a modest source of compressed air.- a can of aerosol computer or camera spray will do- automotive type compressor but not too high pressure Locate the output of the heating system of the notebook (hot air comes out it)- with the nozzle  on the can blow in there across the entire width of the opening. NOTE: The pressure drops quickly on those cans so the first seconds are the most effective. Dust will come out the fan intake vent, sometimes dust balls Use a vacuum cleaner nozzle afterwards to suck at the output the dust out the vent. Repeat if you think you did not get it all out but usually once is enough if the air source and can is large enough to run for a while. Important:This is all done with the notebook turned OFF and unplugged. Remove battery just in case but normally not necessary.Having a temp monitoring software before hand is also a good idea since it gives you a baseline as to the normal temperature. I use Core Temp http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ myself. Unselect any bloatware during the install.

Hi,For quite some time now I've been having problems with Bluetooth (BT) devices on my T500 Win7 64 bit with devicesranging from like my older Nokia C2-01 mobile phone to my new UE ROLL 360 wireless speakers. at this stage the BTicon appeared correctly upon startup and in the device manager there where no errors, whereas the BT devices wereidentified as:a. Thinkpad bluetooth with Enhanced Date Rate IIb. Microsoft Bluetooth data EnumeratorSo from googling I figured all those BT problems might be caused by improper driver installations of BT relateddevices, which led to the use of the Microsoft enumerator instead of the actual needed devices. So I uninstalled it specifically, and was left with an unknown device, with the detail value of:BTH\MS_BTHBRBFrom here on everything only got worse :-(I've reckoned that in order to fix this I should just downloaded the latest official Lenovo driver from:http://support.lenovo.com/il/en/downloads/ds013631 (Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II released21/2/2014).After installation (and required reboot), I was now stuck with an unknown device, with the following 2 details valuestrings:USB\VID_0A5c&PID_2145&REV_0352USB\VID_0A5c&PID_2145From googling this I've realized it's related to the Broadcom Bluetooth driver. So I've downloaded the latest official Broadcom Bluetooth driver from:https://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth (WIDCOMM® Bluetooth Windows® Software for Windows 7 and Vista, 64-Bitreleased 04/08/2016).After thi... I Purchased a thinkpad r51 from a friend without a power cord, i checked the laptop because their was a small amount of power left in the battery so i knew it worked, it said it needed a 16v 4.5a adapter, eager to really use it i tried several of my friends laptop chargers that appeared to fit but was of different voltages, when i finally, recently purchased a targus universal a/c adapter designed to work with ibm's r series i plug it up and it still didn't work, i used a 115 watt and a 80 watt targus adapter and still no power. I called ibm and they told me to disconnect the battery and power cord and press the power button 10x and on the 11th hold it for 30 seconds and that should reset the system board and that still did'nt work. is it possible i burned something out in my attempt to use other power cords or should i try to find a charger that clearly states that it works with model # r51 and not just r series... PLEASE HELP

okay so i bought an IBM thinkpad for 40$ at the computer store i worked at. a customer sold it to us and i figured i could use having a crapper laptop around so i bought it.

it worked fine when i left with it, but about a weeka fter i got it home, this is what started happening:

Half the time when i turned it on, the screen wouldn't light up and you could tell the computer wasnt doing anything either. its like it was failing to initilize some key motheboard part or something. ( i did a RAM, HDD and CPU test and they all passed without issues)

now, it will only power on when it has been off for at least a day, and if it gets powered off, it wont turn back on untill another day has passed. when i try to turn it on, there is a light that flashes a couple times before turning solid, it looks like a circle with a big Z in it. and the battery light turns solig orange.

please let me know if anyone knows a way to fix this, would be greatly appreciated

-Mike

Plug the AC adapter - but nothing else - back in and try to  power on.
