I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you have the actual 3G modem? The SIM slot is always there, even if you don't have a 3G modem.

I have a Lenovo X230t (tablet)  model 3434CTO that came with the Broadband upgradeable option.I asked the sale rep from Lenovo that sold me the x230t, for the Broadband Modem card, but she said they have none in stock and I would have to get it from a 3rd party, and the part number to get is 0A36186.So I purchased one brand new online and installed it.  The broadband modem card is recognized as a F5521gw......the driver installs fine, along with the update/drivers from Lenovo x230t support.I place my Rogers sim into the sim slot (properly oriented as in the service manual), but Acess Connections says "Sim card not present..."I have went back to rogers 3 times and tried 3 different sim cards......they all  report SIM card is not present. Insert card and try again.  Yet the cards all worked fine in a cell phone at rogers. I tried calling Lenovo tech support, twice, but had a bad phone connection both times and could hardly hear the tech and him hardly hear me.  but anyways what he ended up saying was that I need a Gobi Sim card!  Well, my rogers store rep broke out laughing and brought in 2 other rogers personal and told them, and they broke out laughing.........then said the only sim's that will work on the rogers network is a rogers sim.  They said the Lenovo tech is confused and that gobi makes the broadband cards only and not sims. So, now I need the truth.  How do I get my Rogers Sim card to be recognized? Is the Lenovo 0A36... Can someone confirm whether the Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is supplied locked or unlocked on the X60s? Just bought an X60s and was told the internal SIM slot is unlocked and would take any SIM card but for some reason it's taken an unhealthy dislike to my T-Mobile SIMs. When I load the ThinkVantage Access Communications Wireless Connection Staus window and click on the Mobile Broadbad tab, at the top above the Connection Status box I get the message "SIM card is locked...." When I load ThinkVantage Access Communications and press the Mobile Broadband button, I get the following message "The installed SIM card is not authorised for use with integrated Mobile Broadband adaptor in your computer." This latter message seems to suggest that Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is locked.

Answer:X60s - Is the built-in 3G mobile Mobile Broadband adaptor locked?

Go to ebay and buy unlocked mc8755 for lenovo. It is about $25 buy it now. I bought two, problem solve.

Looks like none of the existing or announced (CES 2014) tablets support T-Mobile mobile broadband. Modems are locked to AT&T, etc.
Am I wrong? I'd like to get a Dell Venue 8 Pro, Toshiba Encore, Lenovo Thinkpad 8, ... with T-Mo mobile broadband. Will it be possible?

I purchased a HP ENVY TouchSmart 14-k111nr Sleekbook that came with T-mobile Mobile Broadband for 2 years from the Microsoft Store two months ago. When I clicked 'Internet Access', there would be a 'Mobile Broadband' option for me to choose and select the T-mobile Mobile Broadband. Unfortunately, that has not been appearing since the last few days. I checked my hardware and it appears that there still is a 'Smart Card' but with no information regardin it. I also checked the HP Support Assistant and HP Utility Center but they had nothing. I have tried removing the card and placing it back again. The computer emits the sound that recognizes new hardware but no installater comes up Searching forums, I tried downloading the HP Connection Manager, but it failed to install when an error message ' NO WWAN' came up I also downloaded and reinstalled the latest Mobile Broadband Drivers but nothing happened. In fact, I suspect that it maybe the new updated drivers that caused my T-mobile SIM card to be disabled. I have tried calling HP support but they cannot help and demand payment for 'advanced tech support' when my Laptop is still under Warranty. I tried calling T-mobile, but they said that it was a problem that I needed to contact HP for. I contacted Microsoft that said I need to get in touch with T-mobile. Anyone out there with AOL Broadband to which I have recently upgraded (very happily I might add) may come across this issue if they have Norton Internet Security also installed and ad blocking set to "on".Basically you can't get AOL Radio (which is excellent) if you have ad blocking set to on when you initilaise the Radio Link and this issue is covered by AOL in its help files. What isn't said however is that once logged into AOL Radio you can turn on Ad Blocking again and everything will work fine, so you don't have to suffer immutable ads as you surf. This tip also resolves problems with looking at film trailers and so forth on AOL's home page.

I have just come across this site - MyNow click here. I have never heard of them before or a broadband service being delivered in this way.Does anyone know of a similar ISP that can supply this type of service in Kent at all?According to the MyNow site their service is not available in my area.Thanks.

Answer:Broadband ISP - via secure radio signals

I've tried several post codes both here in Cornwall and in Cardiff and Bristol - no joy on any and they don't indicate the coverage areas.Probably a very limited service at present, which is a pity as it could be cheaper than Vodfone if it became universal.

Signed up for BT Broadband, and at first did not work, DSL light on BT Voyager 210 router not lit at all. BT engineers found a problem and replaced underground cable somewhere between my house and the local exchange 3Km distant. On trying to connect after this repair DSL light flashed for a few seconds then went solid green and hurra connected to ISP no problems until about 6PM every evening since when DSL light flashed till about midnight when all was OK again. Eventually BT engineers came out again and found that there was radio interferance on line. They said interferance was Wi Fi radio frequency and traced interferance to neighbours Belkin Wi Fi modem/router. Asked neighbour to switch it off and my DSL light went steady and started flashing again as soon as neighbours Belkin Wi Fi switched back on. BT asked neighbour to get his Belkin checked out but said it worked fine for him so hard cheese. BT then said there was not much else they could do and recommended that an RF trap is fitted to filter out rogue Wi Fi interfarance. Anyone got any similar experience or know where to buy and fit this RF trap?

Answer:Radio interferance on BT Broadband telephone line.

AFAIK you can't buy these filters. Only BT can fit them. They're called RF3 filters it seems.I'm just wondering whether it would be worth you trying an active filter first, something like click hereHave you optimized your internal telephone wiring click here as this could improve your signal to noise ratio and depending on the results, possibly prevent the disconnections.Other than that, all I can suggest is trying a different router as they are known to produce varying line stats between manufacturers.I have heard of interference caused by neighbours electrical equipment, but never neighbours ADSL euqipment so this is quite unusual. Are BT not willing to fit this filter, even though I may be at cost to you?

Our previous laptops had internal Sprint radios for broadband access.
Sprint will give us external modems for the R600, but it would be great if there were an internal option -- one less gadget to drag around.

Is there such a thing?

Dear all I have just bought this tablet Lenovo ThinkPad X201T model 2985-DLG before yesterday. Since then, I am trying to use my G3 SIM card. The Broadband tab is dim in the Access Connections, and I noticed that its option is absent in the wireless radio software.I have contacted the support team in SBM (the Saudi side of IBM) and they provided me with a link to a very long list of drivers most of which are for other OS versions. I noticed that most of the drivers suggested were already done and the Thinkpad is up to date including the bios.for more clearifying, I did not install my SIM card untill now. I am in the struggle of getting the broadband (WWAN) alive. Any suggestions or solutions will be very appreciated. Abdullah Al-Azraqi, PhDCollege of Health SciencesUniversity of Dammam

Answer:The Broadband tab is dim and its option is absent in the wireless radio software

Hi and welcome to the forum!

The option is dim because your model is only WWAN ready, i.e. the internal antennas are there, however there is no WWAN card installed in it.

Have a look at the support page of your model:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=2985DLG

WWAN option is same as WWAN ready. You can buy the card from lenovo though.

Hope this helps.

hello

i have a internet connection broadband account at my house, i had people to configure it for me from the service provider, it comes down from the satelite to the modem then it goes into a linksys router. this is then connected to my personal desktop and other machines via wireless connection.

i then had a radio link connected to my house which links my office about a kilometre away, so in short these are interconnected via radio link. i then decided to open an internet cafe so from the radio link the connection goes into the server via a nework cable. the machine that acts as aserver has internet connection enabled. now since i need to authenticate wireles clients, for the internet cafe i bought a software called truecafe, for it t to authenticate wireless clients it needs a router so i bought a zyxel router.

now i cannot connect the router for wireless from the internet cafe because it says it needs a dsl cable connected to it, is there a way i cann go round this?

i need this router to act as a dhcp for wireless clients

Question: mobile broadband

Hi I am using vodafone mobile broadband while on holiday. I am able to receive emails but am having a problem sending them. There is no error message it just times out. I have rebooted laptop but am getting nowhere - had the same problem a few weeks ago - the email i was sending just sat in my outbox until I got home. Any suggestions appreciated

Answer:mobile broadband

The general rule is that you must send mail using the SMTP server of the ISP with which you are connected to the internet. At the moment, that means using Vodafone's SMTP server. Your email program will almost certainly be configured to use the SMTP server of your home broadband provider, which won't work with the Vodafone connection.

Hi Swathu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Are you sure that your model has been shipped with WWAN card from the factory?

If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband. Also, install Think Vantage Access connections to handle various wireless profiles.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Question: Mobile Broadband

Hi,Slightly hijacking the thread...I too live in a rural area (Ewelme in Oxfordshire). Our problem is that the exchange is the other side of the Thames and the Council will not let BT place more cabling over the bridge or under the Thames - so some users have Broadband others do not (only at 1mbps).Mobile signal is atrocious indoors, can barely get a signal and 3G is non-existant. However, outside and a few yards down the drive 3G kicks in.Therefore my question is: Is it possible to get a High Gain aerial and have that connect to the 3G dongle to access a better signal inside the house? If so, does anyone know how, and which equipment is required?I work in Kent and really would like to be able to work from home occasionally to avoid the 200 mile round trip every day to the office.ThanksJ

Answer:Mobile Broadband

Don't think there is any way you are going to get it, until Gov makes a move on all UK being able to get BB. This they are wanting to do. And charge everybody for the extra installation. About £6 to £8 a year. One of the things they are doing is laying Fiber Optics in Sewer Pipes

We have a locked down user profile so users would not be able to removed the hardware . Has anyone seen this before ?? Peter

Question: Mobile broadband

I bought a Lenono Thinkpad Edge E530c and would like to use the internal 3G mobile connecting. I inserted my sim into the sim slot under the batery compartment but its not working.  It looks like the drivers are missing. When I start the Mobile connection app it give me "No Wireless Mobile Broadband device found." When I go look in the device manager I cant see any modems installed. So how do I make use of the 3G sim slot to connect to the internet? I also downloaded some bluetooth / modem drivers for my series but nothing seems to work. Please help.

Answer:Mobile broadband

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To activate WWAN in your Lenovo ThinkPad E530c, first you have to ensure that you have a WWAN card and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN upgradable models have the WWAN antennas installed from the factory these will be red and blue wires (the Wi-Fi are typically white, black and grey or just black and grey depending on model). If you have WWAN antennas installed from the factory, probably you need to purchase a compatible WWAN card and install it. If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, install Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation which will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband.

Go to Lenovo Support site, enter MTM number of your device in quick path and get the system specifications. If you find any difficulties, please share the MTM of your device.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi and welcome there.. i heard not about the first time this question.. Al what i can say is the best compatible WWAN card is the SE F3507  ...and not all cards will work overall (different / newer Card-Firmware) even when you buy a Lenovo card (used by some thinkpads/S10 with 3G/S10-2 with 3G)
second is more difficult have to disassemble your Ideapad ... you need to install a antenna in LCD frame (loose warranty)...
and the third barrier is under windows till now not correct working scenario (even with the actual drivers) ...
Hints for try out upgrading/opening S12  here in this part of forum ... same for tryout upgrading wwan card...

Hi, I've a Lenovo S10-3 to which I've fitted an Ericsson F3607GW wwan card for Lenovo notebooks FRU: 60Y3237.  I bought the card from Hong Kong via Ebay.  I downloaded driver 83W013WW.exe from the Lenovo site and it allows me to connect in areas of 3G coverage. Unfortunately we don't have full 3G coverage in Australia and in my home region there is only a GSM signal and the card will not connect to it, although my old usb plug in modem works fine!  According to the Ericsson data sheet the F3607GW has the full range of frequency bands avilable - so it should work! I see that other drivers and the Ericsson broadband Manager are available and would welcome help in what drivers/broadband managers to use.  I have read on other forums that some other modems require the region to be set to '3' to allow proper working in Australia. I would welcome advice on which drivers/manager etc to use to get the card working properly in Australia. If anyone has experience with the GPS capability of this card I would like to learn how it was done - that's the next step after getting the wireless broadband function to work! Looking forward to some good advice! Rogerf

Model: 23255CGSerial: xxxxxxx
I also put a SIM card in this slot, but I do not know how can I activate it? Should I install a driver to use GPRS? Apart from the Internet, can it be used for both Call and SMS? Is there any utility to do so?

Answer:Mobile Broadband

If you didn't fit mobile broadband card yourself you havn't that card in your laptop from the factory. It's wwan ready only, i.e.has internal wwan antennas and sim card holder. If you'll decide to buy and insert wwan card you have not to download and launch application from Lenovo site "Mobile Broadband". It's for simless CDMA/EV-DO networks only.

OK, I asked a question before and got one response...but not answers. This should be simple.1. I have been using the mobile broadband on my T410 for 3 years. It worked fine.2. I did a major windows update.3. Mobile broadband has gone. There is nothing! COmputer says there is no sim card. (there is a sim card and I reinserted it)4. FN F5 bring up no mobile broadband.5. I am paying my $30/ month and have had nothing for past 4 months!!! its killing me. 6.  It worked once for 3 years. Now it does not work. I tried reinstaling the software and it gets almost rhrough and says "There is no mobile sim card installed in this computer"!! Ugggh!!!!7. Lenovo support is useless. Even tho I only annoyed them one time with a problem in 3 years of service contract, my contract ended a couple months ago....so no help there....I have spoken to a dozen people and none have a clue what to do. Surely someone out there has seen or heard about this? My computer cannot be convinced that mobile broadband should be allowed to work!!   HELP!

Answer:Mobile Broadband....need help - its gone...!

I'm the person who responded before. Could anyone who has mobile broadband and who has kept all the various Microsoft and Lenovo updates current tell us that their WWAN is still working? It seems odd if Wombat and I both had a hardware failure at the same update time, but I suppose it could happen. PS My card is an Ericsson 3507

Question: Mobile Broadband

Hi - We are a company which uses a laptop to connect to our secure centre and the internet. We currently use a Orange Mobile GC75 data card which connects to the Orange network and then we dial in to our services and the internet. Our systems are advancing greatly and the GC75 card doesnt give a quick enough connection (Is seems like dial up again) so i was wondering if there was a broadband connection that we could use?Another problem is that there isnt a very good Orange signal where we are so was wondering if there was a data card that could be used with a manx card?We are also looking at buying a new laptop so i can get the best possible to match the data card.I may have got myself in a muddle here but basically i just want a mobile broadband connection that can be used everywhere when on the move with the best signal possible to make it more stable. You help would be much appreciated!

Question: mobile broadband

Hi all, i am a first time user to having a laptop, i want to get broadband for it and it to be pay as you go, what do you suggest. also someone told me a can connect it to my desktop broadband, how would i be able to do this if so it wouldn't be mobile would it?. i'm with virgin with my desktop computer.

Answer:mobile broadband

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I assume you live in the UK like me so I think I can help.

I use 3 mobile broadband which in my opinion is the best of the PAYG tariffs. You can buy a dongle which is the expensive bit or if you have an unlocked 3G phone which allows tethering you can use that if you know how to set it up.
You get 150MB of free data when you top up (minimum ?5 in store, ?10 online) plus it also works as a phone if you want it to.
This 150MB of data lasts 90 days or until you use it all up.
This means it works out you spend ?1.66 for 50MB of data every month, which if you have static broadband at your home should be enough. If you ever use more than this just top up more regularly.

For more info (and probably a much clearer explanation visit 3 - Pay As You Go - SIM Only - Free stuff - Free stuff with every top-up)

I don't know too much about Virgin medias mobile broadband but a good place to start would be here Mobile Broadband - Broadband - Virgin Media

Hope this helps, Oli.

EDIT: After reading your post more carefully, it sound like your do not have your Internet connection going into a Wireless router and then to your laptop and desktop.

This suggests to me that your Virgin Contract may be quite old as all new tariffs include a free Wireless router and setup, not to mention less to pay per month (I went down this road with BT, tripled my connection speed, got a load of free stuff and I now pay ?10 less per month.)
Have a look at http://allyours.virginme... Read more

Does anyone else use a mobile broadband stick that you just plug in to your USB port and away you go? I'm using one on the 3 network, its the second one I've had.And Does anyone know if companies such as AOL or BT plan to bring out versions as at the moment in the uk its only T-Mobile,3,Virgin,Vodafone and Orange who offer them, and usage is quite expensive typically ?10 1Gb,?15 3Gb and ?25 7Gb.I'm using 7Gb a month and I'm not downloading very much

o2 are are advertising it,but its just a 3G i-phone on pay as you go for ?350 i could buy a laptop for that!! At the moment Vodafone offer the fastest speed 7.2mbps the other all around 3mbps.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I will be moving from the rented house I've been in for 21 months into a new house in the next couple of months. The house is a new-build and I will obviously not have broadband to start with - don't know if I'll have a phone line straightaway yet. I am trying to work out the best way to get online during this time.I am in the UK.

I went in to an O2 shop today and they were trying to sell me a dongle which cost £20 and then £2 a day, £7.50 for a week and £15 for a month. This would get over my immediate problem of geing broadband-lacking when I move but wasn't quite what I had in mind. I was thinking more of a dongle with x amount of Gbs (to be decided) which doesn't have clock running on it. So, after I've stopped needing it at the new house, I could take it out and about with me on my laptop whenever I wanted and when it ran out I'd top it up.

Does such a deal exist and, if so, what size in Gbs would be OK? We use aroung 10Gb per month on average but that's with the kids looking at YouTube, using iPlayer a bit so assume that just a bit of surfing would need less? Thanks for any help.

Answer:Mobile broadband Pay-as-you-go?

Hi,
I use '3' mobile broadband all over UK. £10 per month, 1gb which is plenty for an hour or so a day surfing plus emails.

I think in a new build you'll soon have utility providers beating a path to your door!!

Question: Mobile Broadband

I have mobile broadband with 3. Today I tried to connect and did so successfully. However, when I check the connection to see my how my usage was going my 3 connection manager told me I was not connected? How can this be? I am connected to the internet via my USB 3 modem not wifi and am surfing the net.Can anyone help me understand this?

Answer:Mobile Broadband

When you install the 3 Mobile Broadband software, an entry is added in the Network Connections folder for a "Dial-up" connection. If you double click this, you will connect without having to use the Connection Manager, which may still show you as *NOT* connected, even though you are.Additionally, if the Mobile Broadband is set as your default connection and in "Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections" you have selected either...- Dial whenever a network connection is not present- Always dial my default connection...then as soon as you run a program that requires internet access (web browser, email etc), the Mobile Broadband will connect.

Hi By default the Mobile broadband card in my X301 is turned off. Is it possible to turn in on by default when Windows start ups

Answer:Mobile broadband

It has to be mentioned as matter of disclaimer really since this forum is innundated with users who mistakenly believe they're x was GSM / CDMA equipped when they notice the SIM card slot under the battery. Most X's have the SIM slot but this seems standard regardless if the user configured or will have it installed. Assuming you spec'd your for the card and aren't being hopefully confused by spotting the slot....1. Check your BIOS setting to ensure the card is enabled2. check devmgmt.msc for the WiFi or "MobileBroadband" category since the category isn't standard and verify the card is properly installed and enabled / if it is then verify in the cards Advanced properties to ensure the OPERATING SYSTEM DOESN'T TURN OFF THE CARD TO SAVE POWER !!!! Still failing then contact tech support or reply with the rest of the story and whatever inordinary things you've done to this thing because the manufacturers and cellular providers along with Lenovo's group have worked extraordinarily hard to even COOPERATE IN DETERMINING CONFIGURATION AND RARE FOR  SO MANY THINGS TO COME TOGETHER SO WELL IN LAPTOP AS DO BROADBAND CARDS. The cards monthly subscription costs and cellular usage penalties has forced them to behave so cohesively when delivering the option since the type of person who buys a broadband card expects it to work and work out of the box. If you could take an official or even unofficial survey of what kind of hardware failure makes end users and prosum... Answer:Mobile Broadband

You would not be able to use your 3 mobile Broadband abroad as difference country uses difference system via their mobile network, you will also need an account with the local broadband supplier Mobile roaming calls worldwide is difference than mobile broadband Most International telephone companies have an agreement between themselves that will allow you to use your local mobile phone on there local network and charge you roaming fees from 80% - 175% above the normal cost some also charge you both ways, for receiving a call or a text message and when you make a call

Has anyone experienced problems with e mail page layouts when using Vodafone or T mobile dongles.I thought the problem was a new layout on my talktalk e mail page, but it seems to be only when I am working away from home & I use one of the mobile dongles. I have had the issue checked out with talktalk & it is not the talktalk e mail that's causing me to see a completely different layout than when I access e mail via my modem at home. The layout when using a mobile dongle is very basic & does not allow me to alter fonts, underline, do italics or even attachments etc. Very strange & frustrating & only started happening last Friday.Regards, CGM.

I'm trying to find some way to make the Ericsson F3507g "mobile broadband card" automatically connect at Windows startup. This is needed because our organization's VPN application demands that a connection be established before Windows logon. At present our mobile user would need to first logon to Windows without a network connection, then connect the mobile broadband device, log back out and then in again to be able to see all their network resources. At the moment we are unable to use the built-in mobile broadband devices in some Lenovo T and X series laptops because of this issue. In many external mobile broadband cards (such as cards from Option), there is a simple "autoconnect" setting in the device driver menu that automatically connects the mobile broadband as soon as possible. So a networked windows domain logon can be achieved just like when using LAN or WLAN. Please help our overworked IT-department to find a solution to this problem? This message concerns T500 in particular, but also X200 and X300 modelsSome search strings: automatically connect autoconnect autoreconnect 3g gprs umts internal modem problem Message Edited by autoconnect on 02-02-2009 07:44 AM

Hello!  Take this advice for what its worth...considering that I am not using the same connection card, and I think your using AT&T service. I have a Sprint Merlin EX720, which is an express card, not MiniPCI and use it in "NDIS" Mode; to turn this on, there is an option in either the Current Sprint manager software, or in the Novatel Connection manager.  In this mode the card acts very much like an Ethernet type connection, instead of a RAS connection.  I like NDIS do to not needing the connection software, unless I need to auth a GPS session. also it acts very much like being connection via lan ports. Once I fresh boot(not coming back from sleep/hibernate -- have not tested these modes) and sitting on the log in window of Vista of my T400 I can insert the card, and its light blinks for a bit then goes steedy green.  Its about the same amount of time as if i was already logged in and on the desktop and just put the card in. Also from time to time the annoying new connection box from the Connection software provided by Lenovo pops up over the vista log in.   I'm not sure how "locked" down your laptops are, however this might, at lest be a starting point for your IT guys.

Can someone explain to me the difference between normal broadband v an offer I saw on T mobile. You don't need a telephone you're sent a USB modem.Need helpThanks

Answer:Difference between Broadband and T mobile usb m

you've summed it up yourself - you don't need a telephone/landline, therefore you aren't paying out for BT line rental, possibly just so you can use broadband on it.Another obvious advantage is the fact you can use it nearly anywhere. I say nearly as this is one of the drawbacks - I use T-mobile broadband via my phone as a modem....it works most of the time but I'd describe it as flakey. For example three days last week I had no access at all as the transmiter was down. Was visiting a friend in Manchester at the weekend and there was no 3G/HSDPA signal at all - now central Manchester is hardly the scottish highlands where you could expect poor service.....so you really need to investigate whether it's going to work, and how well it is - before you jump in.

hey andrewjknox, shouldn't the simcard be in the dongle ? although there is a slot under the battery to insert the sim, the sim will not be detected as there is no device (the intergrated mobile) to detect it.

I am thinking of buying a netbook and I would like to use it whilst I am in the Canaries to access the internet and use my email etc. I thought that my best bet was to buy a pay as you go dongle when I arrive in Tenerife and then use it there. Is this a sensible option? I am also unsure how payment would be made - is there some way of pre-loading it or is an account issued? Would this be done before I return home? Since I go to Tenerife more than once a year, could a pay as you go dongle be used say, every six months, or would I buy a new one each time I go on holiday? I currently use a 3G dongle for my broadband at home. Is it possible 3G could offer me anything useful?

Answer:Mobile Broadband in the Canaries

best advice is to purchase one when you get there otherwise you will be subject to roaming charges and the like.
any telecoms store should sell then for around a resonable amount and will work fine as most of them support the english language also,

Helloo and welcomeAny chance the wwan card is captured by Linux' stand by mode while the system boots Windows? That might mean the card can't resume from one of the power mode.Thy to reset the BIOS/EC and laptop power circuits:unplug the power cable and battery, press the power button and hold it for 20...30 seconds. Enter the BIOS Setup, load and save default settings, check out the settings you prefer, save them. Boot laptop. These steps might help but not resove issue until you'll find the way how Linux interacts with modem.

I am trying to connect a new Dell Latitude laptop with a Dell 5720 VZW (EVDO Rev-A) mobile card to our network using the sonicwall GVC. Any interface other than the VZW card such as WIFI or ethernet cable work fine when connecting and mapping drives over the internet using GVC. However with the Verizon Wireless connection, all I can do is ping our server and strangely I have no problem connecting to remote desktop. When attempting to map a drive on the laptop using the mobile broadband I get the error message "The network location cannot be reached." almost as if I never was within reach of the server even though I can ping it and RDP! I have Netbios enabled on our VPN so I don't believe that is the problem. Numerous calls to Sonicwall support have left me with nothing. Any suggestions would be VERY appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help that might be offered. I'm running Vista.

I have a couple questions. My main question is i was wondering if slingshot.com prepaid mobile broadband service is still operating. I heard sprint shut them off so i was wondering if their still providing service. And has anyone had experience with slingshot.

My other question is does anyone know of a prepaid mobile broadband service that operates on at&t's network.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time.

I have just got my X201 Tablet and have only now started to explore it and to my delight I find a little summer pressie from Lenovo in the form of Mobile Broadband and GPS fitted but not asked for or included in the specs at purchase.Today I have been running around looking for a Bluetooth GPS receiver to go with the Memory Map software I use but not able to find one. Only now I sat down to run through the options on my tablet and check to see if there were any updates on the Lenovo site and it reported that I had a GPS fitted, Thank goodness I didn't buy one. A big Thanks to Lenovo for the hidden treasure within  Alistair

Hi there. I'm in the UK and bought an X200 about 6 months back with built-in 3G card. I used the included T-Mobile free month's trial until it came to an end. I am now using the laptop out and about more and am wondering what my options are - can I use any mobile broadband provider's SIM card or is it locked to T-mobile in some way? Looking at T-mobile, O2 websites, they only seem to offer USB dongles which seem a bit inelegant. Just spoke to a T-Mobile customer rep and she seemed to think you could get SIM cards only in stores. Any advice welcomed. Edit: just realised the trial was with Vodafone not T-Mobile. No wonder the T-Mobile rep was confused...

Hope it is okay to ask this here?A friend has just had a new loptop bought for her by her hubby. She wants to go online for very basic surfing and email at home. They have NO fixed BT landline at home and don't want one installed. We've been pointed to Vodafone's mobile USB key deal for £15 per month. Seems fine for her needs. Are there any others we should look at and could be recommended please?

Please pardon my naivete, but I really have very vague ideas about these sticks in terms of after purchase cost(activation? monthly?) and amount of internet time and usage(how much surfing it allows? can I watch hour/s long videos? Several times a day? Everyday?

T Mobile ZTE MF691 Rocket 3G 4G Webconnect USB Laptop Stick Modem AirCard HSDPA | eBay

Above link is an example(of several)e-bay listings of device.(stick).

NetZero is for a short time offering a year-long cost-free 4GB stick for a cost of the device. That's it.

PS: I am fully aware this topic has nothing to do with W7...but I really do not know where to go for this.

Answer:Mobile Broadband device

With those Adaptors it all depends on the tarriff/carrier as to what you get.

Normally a top up of say $10 will give you about 1-2gb of usage. Thats not a great deal of data when it comes to streaming videos, but will five you hours and hours of surfing.

I use my phone as a hotspot when im out the house, and id say i watch about 1-2 hours of youtube and netflixs a day, in a month that adds up to about 20-30gb of usage as an idea of heavy video streaming. But luckily for me i get unlimited usage on my phone with a fair usage policy of 1000GB a month.

Answer:T420 3G Mobile Broadband

Are you sure that your model got 3G? Some models are WWAN upgradable which means you have to buy and insert the 3G adapter. What is the model/type of your T420 (XXXX-YYY)?

Do you see the 3G adapter in device manager and no missing drivers?

Will 3 mobile broadband work with Linux based Asus EE which I am thinking about getting. Have been told not in one shop but have seen some posts that say Linux does work on this network.

Answer:3 Mobile broadband and Asus EE

I think it would be more a case of compatible drivers being available than anything else , the drivers for Windows etc. are stored on the device itself , whether others are about for the Asus and it's brand of Linux , I really don't know . click here for some useful details and some drivers . Hi
Welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad? Maybe we can check if the machine cames with a 4G modem or not.

I used to have a Thinkpad L420 that only came with the 4G SIM slot, but internally it did not have a card. Maybe with the model number we can check the specifications, or even the Maintenance Manual to open it up and check if the 4G card is installed.

Being raised in the paleolithic, I am lost in a forest of wireless technology. I have tried reading up on this, but still confused.:confused I would like to get rid of my cable phone company and switch from dial-up. I would like to lose the landline altogether. As I understand it, I can buy something that will connect me to a cell phone network. All I want is a higher speed connection for my desktop, an older business machine. Will a dongle thingy for a cell phone network work for that as I don't want to use a cell phone. Just the computer and the thing that makes it possible. Is getting a card from a cell phone network and paying them monthly the only way to get this, or are there other options?
Thanks, Sheena

Answer:need some help understanding mobile broadband

You can't get higher speed than cable at least around me its 50Mbps, same as fiber. DSL is next in line with 6 - 15 Mbps. Then wireless from a cel company (called mobile broadband) then dial up comes in last place, I don"t know how that plays into you wanting "a higher speed connection".

Dumping your landline, you can get a smartphone that can double as a wireless access point. Most wireless companies are limiting their broadband usage. Sprint is still *unlimited*.

So you had a cable company phone service for dial up Internet access?

My wife and I have just started using the 3 Mobile broadband service with the dongle that plugs into a USB port and requires no other connection to latch onto a broadband connection. If we want to run this on more than one computer we are currently unplugging it from the one to plug it into another. Both computers have wireless. Do we need a router to allow both simultaneous access to the connection? If so is there a particular kind of router required? There is no RJ45 connector from the dongle. Thanks in advance for any help.

I just received my Thinkpad X230T with" mobile broadband ready" option. In the battery compartment there is the SIM slot as shown by the manual. I inserted an AT&T sim card with dataplan but the system did not recognize the card. The ThinkVantage tools indicated that there is no WAN available. Is the SIM card slot indicate that I have WAN capability or do I need another device to make it work? Help is greatly appreciated.

welcome to the community. if i understand "mobile broadband ready" as defined by lenovo, you've got the sim card slot and the required wwan antennae installed, but... you don't have a wwan card. get a supported card and you should be good to go. hth.

I installed the GOBI WAN card, it's recognized and functioning within Win7.  Activated at Verizon.  Problem is in trying to activate on x220.  When I try to connect, it asks if I want to activate.  When I click okay, it tells me that I need to install "Mobile Broadband Connection". Can anyone help me here?  What is this software?  Is it Lenovo - Verizon had no idea. Thanks!

Hi,I just received a new X230 with pre-installed mobile broadband.  Everything appears to be set up--appropriate drivers, programs etc, however, there is no SIM card.  Was the computer supposed to ship with a pre-installed SIM?  If so, where can I get one--Lenovo or Macheen, the service provider?  Or, am I supposed to get one from a local provider?  I would like to be able to use Lenovo Mobile Access, and it is available here in Denmark. thanks,DRL

Answer:X230 mobile broadband

Hi, AFAIK you need to get a SIM from your Mobile provider.  I know of very few hardware suppliers that supplies Mobile Internet as well.  (Or at least in South Africa). Btw, when you do get the sim, check the manual for the correct way to insert the card. On my X220T, there was no image on the case to show where the angled corner needs to go. And since you have to remove the battery to change it everytime, it is a very time consuming process if you install the card incorrectly.

Greetings:Does it make sense to get the Integrated ____ (Verizon, AT&T, etc.) Mobile Broadband add on or is it more economical to get a USB or express card later on?Does integrated mean built in as it relates to this issue?Thank you.

Peter M. AbrahamDynamic Net, Inc.

Answer:What is the value of the Integrated Mobile Broadband add on?

The value is for people whom knows definitely that they are going to use mobile broadbands, in addition the reception using the integrated system would be better than the external usb plugins (most of them anyway), if you only occasionally use mobile broadband then some people would suggest an external one. It really depends whether you are a road warrior that need constant mobile internet access.
