Restoring Win 7 with non-Lenovo media - possible to restore Lenovo features?

Question: Restoring Win 7 with non-Lenovo media - possible to restore Lenovo features?

Rcently retired a business T400, converted it for home use. Refreshing the OS on a new SSD became quite the chore, due to Lenovo's stingy installation media policy. After playing around for several hours, I decided to bite the bullet, use old, non-Lenovo Win7 recovery media, created for an earlier home system crash. The drive no longer contains any the Lenovo partitions. utilities. QUESTION: Is it possible / practical to recreate the drive structure, functionality? Is there a compelling reason to do so?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

IMO there's no reason to recreate the recovery partition if you have recovery media. Just install ThinkVantage System Update and let it find relevant T400 drivers and utilities. You probably want to install all the drivers, then decide individually which utilities you want.

Hello everyone,     I have a Lenovo P50 that I recently had to perform a clean install of Windows on due to the application CCleaner corrupting the system to the point that I couldn't even do a reset. I should have done a recovery from the recovery partition, but I completely forgot about this feature so I did a clean install from a USB flash drive. This clean install wiped out my recovery partitions and and all of the OEM Lenovo software and features on the computer. The "About this PC" screen no longer shows Lenovo Thinkpad P50 Signature Edition and all of the software and features that were from Lenovo are gone too. I would like to bring all of this back so that this computer is like it was from the factory again. From there I can go about reinstalling my applications and doing my configurations. Do I need the original recovery media to do this? I know that Lenovo offers me a free one time download of the recovery media that I can put on a USB flash drive, but I want to ensure this is what I would need to accomplish what I am trying to do. If I am wrong, I would appreciate some clarification as to what I need to do or if I can even accomplish this.

Hey everyone, I got my W530 a few days ago and tried making recovery discs. When it was on the 3rd disc, it just gave up and gave some error message. It wouldn't let me go back and make another copy of the discs. I decided to do a clean install and get the drivers/ software later. I found most of them on the Lenovo website but there are still a few things that I liked and now I don't have.  There was window that would display all my Lenovo applications and I can't remember the name of it. It looked very similar to the Windows welcome screen. I know it was accessed through the Control Panel. The name is escaping me. I hope someone knows what I'm referring to. I just thought it was super convienet and helpful.Dolby software that had an equalizer and audio prefences. I was itching to use it once I transfered my music. The Think lock screen  Is there anyway to restore these things. Thanks for the advice and support.

Answer:Restoring Lenovo features/software on clean install

I don't remember that screen with all the thinkvantage controls. I believe many of the Thinkantage software peices add themselves to the control panel. The dolby audio settings should be part of the W530 audio driver(it was for me). The think lock screen(If you mean the background), I can upload the wallpapers when i'm in front of my computer, and you can use this software to change the lock screen. http://www.julien-manici.com/windows_7_logon_background_changer/   I also did a clean install. NOTE: If you copy the C:\SWSETUP folder before you do a clean install, it has most of the software in it.

The disk that was sent to me is a USB written in Universal Disk Format - never seen this format before. It was uninitialized so i considered trying to activate it in a few ways, through diskpart in windows, and also by cloning via linux and adding boot flags to the partition it was written to. No luck, though. I'm reluctant to do much more, considering I paid money for this drive; what gives? How does one use this mysterious little drive?

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hi everybody i hope you are all doing great. Laptop Details:Lenovo Y50-70 Laptop (Lenovo) 203784720hq512ssd960m16gb ram I made a clean install to my lenovo laptop so I lost some essential applications that came with my laptop. I installed almost all the drivers and apps at lenovo driver support download page without problems but i could not find some of lenovo apps that came in my laptop when i bought it and I really need them. The only one available in the driver download page were Lenovo energy manger. The most importants for me that i need are lenovo onekey recovery app and lenovo updates. For onekey recovery I only need the app, not the files to restore the whole partition, because the recovery partition is intact, I did not format it. So I only need the app that opens it. Th apps I want to get back are:1. Lenovo Onekey Recovery app - The one I am more interested in.2. "Lenovo Updates' (lenovo updates is the name of the app) The scond one im am more interested in.3. Lenovo Settings4. Lenovo companion If someone can guide me to where to download each of them, it would be great. I would need for windows 8.1 64 bit or windows 10. Thank You, I hope you can help me.

Answer:Where do I download Lenovo Y50 Onekey Recovery, Lenovo Settings. "Lenovo updates", Lenovo Companion?

Go to the Windows Store and do a search on "Lenovo."   You will find almost all the apps you need are available there.

3000 N500: after 1 week I am very happy with this laptop all around, but here some minor annoyances:1) The 'touch buttons' on the N500 for volume are so slow that it is easier and faster to use the good old Fn+F1/F2 buttons, these are fast. Is there a way to configure it's responsiveness? If not, you could just supress these touch buttons in future versions.2) Also about hardware Volume change (both touch buttons or Fn+F1/F2), it's also annoying that during a full screen app (game or video) the Windows Volume Slider pops up, steals focus and slows down the game/video... Is it possible to turn this off? If not, I would appreciate a driver/bios update that changes this behaviour. 3) Start up Lenovo BIOS wallpaper screen. It only mentions "Press Lenove Care button for 'advanced options'" (if I recall correctly). This is confusing. Pressing the Lenovo Care button indeed you go to RECOVERY. It would be better to change the text to exactly the options that you have: "Press F1 to enter BIOS, press Lenovo Care button to enter Recovery".Thank you!

After moving from Windows Vista to Windows 8.1, I realized that there is NOT a "Lenovo Care Package" supporting
Windows 8.1.
My SL 500 works fine with W 8.1, however I miss the features of Lenovo Care.
I wonder if a follow-on package "Lenovo Care"-like exists for Thinkpads running under W 8.1. and how to get it.

Answer:SL 500 - How to "recover" the "Lenovo Care" features on a SL 500 running under W 8.1

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

I did some searching around and I was unable to find an updated version of the Lenovo Care Pack for Windows 8.1 or Windows 7.   I suspect given the age of your system there was never an update version released.   I am not familiar with all the features of Lenovo Care Pack, but have you considered installing the Vista version in compatibility mode?  It may work or it may not.  If you give it a try I would recommend you create a Windows Restore point prior to the installation just in case the Lenovo Care Pack has some unexpected results.

Brand new Lenovo G510 running Windows 7 Ultimate 64.  I'm trying to get into the BIOS to view things like my memory timing, but I also need to get into the system monitor so I can view temperature readings and also access and adjust fan speeds. I can boot into some kind of BIOS using either the little Lenovo button, or by mashing F2, but neither of these BIOS pages are nearly as robust as my desktop BIOS settings have been. This is my first ever laptop, so maybe this is normal, but it's frustrating to be told to change fan speeds to go into a menu which I can't even view, let alone modify.  Hopefully this is just user error and not something related to the system.

Answer:Lenovo G510 can't access most BIOS features

hi MarklonW,

Thanks for Posting!

For an OEM Laptop system this is quite normal.
Unlike Desktop that has a lot of BIOS Settings, Laptops only has few specially for OEM laptops where most of the settings are preset and non viewable inside the BIOS.

This is a link for BIOS screen shots of  Lenovo System and you might find same settings in every system
http://service.lenovo.partner-management.com/et.cfm?eid=1437

There are users who tried unlocking / modding the BIOS (You can look it up online) but there are a lot more to it. and may cause serious damage to the system if done wrong.

I strongly suggest to use the system as it is
There are TEMP monitor software like HWmonitor to check GPU and CPU Temperature.
But for the fan speed Im doubt that it can be detected via software as it was tried before and there were no fan detected on the laptos.

Regards
Solid Cruver

Hi again. Browsing around Synaptics Driver i found that latest releases have nice features like advanced "Three Finger Horizontal/Vertical Flick" and "Three Fingers Down" option.Especially the last option i believe is very useful, as you just put 3 fingers on touchpad and any program you define will be launched . It can be your player, game, or task manager (in my case). And, of course, Lenovo Official Driver has no such nice option. Someone could ask, what's the problem? Install latest Synaptics Drivers and Topic Closed.Hehe. Here is the problem. Synaptics driver is paired with so called Lenovo invention "SlideNav". Its sensor panel for fast call apps (idea is good, but implementation is poor, if you ask me). The following package is going restore this injustice. Use it only with Standard Lenovo Driver.Unpack the Archive and follow instructions. For Win7 Systems. Works on x86. Should work on x64 (someone should confirm).GRAB IT HERE: x64 and x86 in one package (4shared) Full Text on here. Enjoy, L.

I have a full R+R image saved to a portable laptop USB drive from a T61 that I no longer have.  Is there a way to create an image on another older (e.g. T40 laptop) or another T60/T61 with this data so I can pull it off?  I am trying to get some documents I had saved on the T61.

Short version of what happened. 1. Attempted to use One Key Recovery to restore my computer to a point that it was performing better and didn't have a virus. 2. One Key failed during the restore process, to the point my computer wouldn't boot anymore. 3. Loaded new OS that I purchased since computers don't come with back up discs anymore and the back up discs that I my computer made were corrupted somehow. 4. Installed all additional programs I owned and drivers that I found for Windows 8 64bit on Lenovo's driver support site. 5. Wondering how to restore some of the Lenovo specific software on my Ideapad Y570. Such as the batter health tool, monitor setting button (one that goes from normal, to movie, etc modes), graphics accelerator switch that saves power or boosts performance, and fan control that optimizes cooling, saves energy, runs quietly, or cleans with short powerful burst.

Answer:One Key Recovery Failed. Had to reload OS. Help activating Lenovo specific features.

hi addctd2adrnlne,

AFAIK, the Y570

Can you try to install these drivers for the following features:

Battery Health Tool
- Install the Lenovo Energy Management

OneKey Theater Software (Monitor Setting Button - one that goes from normal, to movie, etc modes)
- you need the  but there's currently no official Windows 8 version of this driver.
- try this one though as it may work for the Y570
http://driverdl.lenovo.com.cn/lenovo/DriverFilesUploadFloder/36074/Win8_OneKey_Theater_x64.exe

Display Driver (Graphics accelerator switch that saves power or boosts performance)
- If you have an Intel + Nvidia GPU, install these driver in order:

Intel VGA Driver (1st)
NVIDIA VGA Driver (2nd)

- To get the switch notification between the graphics cards, you need to enable Show notification Tray Icon and Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area under the nvidia Control Panel
    - this should notify you if the Nvidia GPU is being used for max. performance or Intel GPU for power saving.
    - Link to picture

Thermal Management System (fan control that optimizes cooling, saves energy, runs quietly, or cleans with short
powerful burst)
 - not availeble for Windows 8. AFAIK, you need to run this on Windows 7 for it work.

Hi all,I'm thinking of restoring my T61 to factory condition, but I don't know how. I don't have a Lenovo backup CD available, and I doubt they'll ship a CD to my country (Vietnam), so I need instructions on how to restore using the ThinkVantage button. Please give me thorough instructions, as I'm no expert on computers. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Restoring Lenovo T61 to factory settings?

1. Press the blue thinkvantage button during initial startup of the laptop.2. Then select restore to factory condition.3. Choose full factory restore. This would only work if the T61 still have the recovery partition intact.

I recently installed Linux on my T430 to dual boot with Windows 7 64-bit. I later learned that when Linux installs GRUB, it overwrites the boot loader within the MBR, and the boot loader for the T430, named BMGR, is specific to the ThinkPad. I would appreciate any help on how I might restore the BMGR boot loader, if possible. Complicating this issue is the fact that I also installed a clean version of Windows 7, and I cannot find the file bmgr32.exe (which from other resources I've read seems necessary). I did this prior to installing Linux. Why I need to do this: I have learned that I need the BMGR in order to install Lenovo's Rescue & Recovery software (Otherwise you get the error: "Error 25014..... Return code: 6" during installation.)  I would like to burn the Lenovo Recovery partition to disc and remove it to free up a partition for a shared data partition for Linux and Windows (The T430 came with 3 primary partitions: SYSTEM, Windows 7, and Lenovo Recovery). Thus, my need to restore the BMGR. Thanks for the help.- Ben

Answer:Restoring Lenovo BMGR boot manager

If you didn't first run the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery program, create the Lenovo factory image to a DVD disk set or other media, then I think you are SOL.  That is the prereq before hosing things with Linux. I believe you can request the disk set from Lenovo support.

Hello, i have a problem to install the Hotkey Features Integration utility on my ThinkPad X120e notebook. I installing there Windows XP i.e. the drivers for Windows XP 32-bit. Everything seems fine except the Hotkey Features Integration utility which won't install. It says something in the sence that the programme is not compatible with the system, Windows XP. But this is nonsence because i downloaded the driver from the Lenovo website exactly for Windows XP 32-bit from Windows XP 32-bit section from here: http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cz/cs/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x... Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP and 2000 - ThinkPad (version 3.89.0100, 2015/06/01)The file name is: 8jvu43ww.exe It seems to me that Lenovo placed on this link wrong (incompatible) version of the programme. Can you help me to fix this, please?Thank you.

You can either purchase one through Lenovo support (it's usually $69), or use an ISO file from the internet. I would suggest getting it through Lenovo since it will include all of Lenovo's optimizatons.

Hi everyone; I recently tried to restore T61 laptop to factory settings and I received the message "Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation". I used Dr. Google to see if I could fix the problem; but unfortunately after re-starting multiple times, restoring to factory settings (after changes to the Administrator account as well as "Oobe" settings, in any number of combinations); I still get the same error message. Any thoughts? I'm attempting to reinstall Windows Vista Business. I do apologize I'm not a computer person so if you need any additional details please let me know; thanks in advance!

I'm about to replace my existing HD with a new HD. I want to transfer everything (OS, apps, data etc.) on my existing HD to the new HD. Which of the two methods are better: (a) use the lenovo backup and restore utility; or (b) use the windows 7 utility to create a system image and restore it? I mean "better" in terms of reliability, convenience, speed, etc. Model: T510 4313CTO 500gb HD.

Answer:lenovo restore vs. windows restore

The Win7 system imaging tool is way faster than Lenovo Rescue and Recovery.  If you're just doing this 1 time, as a way to go from 1 HDD to another HDD, then use the Win7 tool and put your image on network or USB HDD.  Then swap your HDD, boot to a Win7 install DVD, choose the repair option, and restore your image. R&R has a lot of great features that aren't built into Win7, including the ability to do incremental backups, schedule the backups, and pull individual files out of the backups.  But for pure speed it can't compete with the Win7 system image tool.

Hi there, I envounter some problem on my lenovo thinkpad Yoga (model 20CD-A00TME), not sure when the laptop started having this issue but it must been recent as I have done some updates on some device drivers and even the BIOS was updated. After the routing checkup from Lenovo Solution Center, it was found that there are some system devices which are disabled. Here are all the few system devices which are disabled and cannot be enabled: 1) DDP UMDF Driver2) Lenovo Primary iM Controller3) Lenovo Settings4) Lenovo Settings Camera Audio5) Lenovo Settings Power Current my laptop has Lenovo Dependency Package version 1.6.25.00. Initially, I thought these system devices were affected by the recent software update which were done in the past week but I have completely reverted the updates by performing a system restore. Just for references, here are the software updates which were installed & uninstalled: - Lenovo Peer Connect SDK (Version 1.0.0.7)- Intel PROSet/Wireless Software- Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth(R) Technology- Lenovo Quick Control- On Screen Display Even after performing the system restore, the 5 system devices are still in disabled state. What can be done to fix this issue? Is it related with the recent BIOS update? Is there anyway to get newer drivers for these 5 system devices? Thank you for your help & support. Kind regards,Poon

Answer:Primary iM Controller, Lenovo Setting, Lenovo Setting Camera Audio, Lenovo Setting Power disabled

Hi again, Found from the device status of these 5 system devices are having the same properties. Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) How to fix the incomplete or damaged configuration info in registry? Thank you.

Hi.I have a IBM/Lenovo X32 with Vista installed and would like to use XP instead. It seems changing OSs is a tricky task without using the restore disks, so does anyone know where I can get them from? The laptop has a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) XP product key sticker and is still under warranty, but it seems that I can only get a Vista restore disk through Lenovo.Does anyone know where I can get XP restore disks? Or could some kind soul mail them them to me (I'm in the UK)?Thanks.

Answer:How do I get XP restore disks for IBM/Lenovo X32 (X31)?

I have an old X22 that's also got a XP COA.  What I did was to install XP from a Dell XP CD!  Yeah, I didn't think it would work either, but it did.  It didn't even ask for a COA during install.  I got online and registered XP using the COA with Microsoft, downloaded SP3, downloaded ThinkVangage and all of the drivers I could find.  Right now I don't have the ability to watch DVD's, but the trackpoint is configurable, and it hibernates.  I also can not get it  to work with my WPA WLAN, but I'm not sure that's even possible anyway (old driver?).--Dale--You might want to have a look at this link:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4M7HWZHow to use the pre-boot service partition to recover your systemPurchase a recovery CD or DVD by calling the Support CenterIf you cannot use the service partition or have had hard drive failure, you will need to obtain a recovery CD or DVD by contacting the Support Center. Answer:Lenovo y50-70 recovery restore

Sorry, you cant restore using HDD data since it has been formatted.

What you can do -
1) Download a copy of windows (From microsoft or other website) which was installed on your system. Create a bootable disk and install fresh windows.
(Free)

2) Order a set of recovery discs from Lenovo ($$, Time consuming - Not Recommended)

This question concerns the Recovery Media activity in the Lenovo Solution Centre Our local community centre has recently been donated a Lenovo G50 lap topAs the lead technical support officer for that organization it is down to me to configure and maintain this device. The laptop came pre-installed with Windows 8.1 On first boot, and after initial configuration the device went straight into Windows Update, many iterations later Windows Update started configuring and installing Windows 10.  Eventually the Windows 10 lock screen was displayed and I logged in as an administrator. Windows Disk management shows what appear to be 6 primary partitions, 4 are hidden, one is labelled C: the other D: I started the Lenovo Solution Centre and clicked the Recovery Media item The default path for the backup location points to D:\Lenovo\OneKey App\OneKey Recovery\backup.wsiUnfortunately however the OneKey recovery application reports an estimated image size of 54GB and an available space on D: og 25GB ???? I now have three possibilitiesUse Disk Management to expand D at the expense of CWrite to C (800+GB)Write to a USB To get me over this step I decided to write to a directory on C however I now have the following questions Question 1. What happens if the hard disk fails?Question 2. Given that the solution centre suggests"Use recovery media to restore your system to its original factory state"and that machine has already updated itself to Windows ... Read more

Hi All, I am attempting to download Recovery Media from the Lenovo website for my new X1 Carbon. I go to the Site indicated in the documentation provided with my new laptop; http://www.lenovo.com/lenovorecovery however once I log on neither the 'Reset' or 'Submit' buttons work on the page. I am therefore unable to organise Recovery Media, which is very frustrating. I have tried the following browsers; Chrome, Edge and Firefox! Any help from Lenovo here would be great. Kind Regards, David

Here's a little trick to add some basic media keys to lenovo s10 keyboard in windows. It adds following combinations:Fn + . Next track Fn + / Previous track (the key with ? and +, not the one with 0 and ) )Fn + ; Play/PausePower management gui recognizes this shortcuts and displays proper icons just as it does for volume and brightness.Trick takes over the numpad . + and - keys but I guess they are rarely used on such a small keyboard.I've decide to use Fn + . for the next track because the > sign on this key resembles the next track sign, but you're welcome to suggest your own combinations that would be more logical. Remember that only keys with assigned bios key codes can be used (for example Fn + '<' doesn't give any distinct key code so i could't use it)If you have ideas on how to modify bios to get more Fn + key codes, please join the thread there's definitely room for some improvement on the bios side. The method:simply add this manually to your registry[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,04,00,00,00,10,e0,4e,00,19,e0,53,00,\22,e0,4a,00,00,00,00,00or save it in .reg file, left click and choose merge. Then reboot and you're all set

Answer:Media keys on lenovo s10

Hi, Sorry for  being such a novice, but could you please assist in describing this step by step? or maybe attach a .reg file that works to merge directly? I have really looked for this functionality and it would be super if i could get it to work! Thanks,ROB

Alright so my Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 recently underwent some physical damage while on and the HDD took serious damage and I was forced to replace it. I was under the impression that the OneKey recovery system was an onboard full restore and did not know that it was hard drive based. I seem to have misplaced the recovery disk that came with my laptop so I'm running low on options. If anybody has one they would not mind selling to me (if that doesn't void any warranties/agreements) that would be awesome. Reply to this thread if any help or answers.

I installed Windows 7 to the main partition on my SL400.  I kept the 2 smaller partitions, 1 at the front and 1 at the end of my harddrive. I tried to revert to Vista by pressing the Lenovo Care button after turning on the machine, but the button is not doing anything. The system continues to boot Windows7. How can I fix this? Edit: I've seen some forum posts about older laptops that came with XP and not Vista (32bit home basic for me) and they say use a XP CD and run "fixmbr" to fix the boot sector. I had vista so i'm not sure if this applies to me, will it?Message Edited by jpchow on 05-31-2009 08:58 PMMessage Edited by jpchow on 05-31-2009 08:59 PM

Answer:lenovo care restore broken

Okay i've tried several things since I first posted. I'll skip the failures and describe where I am now. I have a different version of Vista Installed to my C: now (ultimate 64bit) that I "got from a friend". I never touched any of the contents in what were S: and Q:drives. Q: drive is still Q and contains the hidden FactoryRecovery folder and everything else on it from stock.  S: drive is now D: unfortunately, but contents I think are still the same. I haven't explicitly installed anything to it, but Vista thinks its a System partition so I can't change the letter back to S:. With this vista installed I managed to install the ThinkVantage Rescue and Restore application from lenovo.com. I can autorun Q: drive and it prompts me to make the rescue discs like stock, however clicking "Create recover media" causes and error to come up: "windows cannot find "c:\program files (x86)\Lenovo\factory recovery\recovburncd.exe" I'm very close to fixing everything back. I can see in Q: the hidden FactoryRecovery folder with bcdinfo.txt, cdrivebackup.wim,  RECOVERY.INI and sdrivebackup.wim. Is there anything form here I can do to restore my original C:? it's soooo close and I don't want to spend the $50 on restore disks. Thanks in advance

Anyways my Lenovo ThinkPad has started to go laggy all of a sudden and I think its because of a virus bc my anti-virussoftware (Avast) always says that it blocks multiple urls that are supposedly infected and similar things like that, but factory restore seems to get rid of most viruses and I'm not exactly sure if my lappy has a virus or not, but it still lags and it could be adware or something like that meaning that it'd be a minor one, . I tried following guidelines how to do a factory reset but it wasnt the right guideline. But anyway, how do you factory restore a Lenovo T410? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Answer:How to do a factory restore on a Lenovo T410?

2. Restart your machine, Press ThinkVantage button during ThinkPad logo (POST) to launch Factory Restore

When I turn on my lenovo g580 laptop it loads on the lenovo screen longer then usual and then turns to a completely black screen. I tried system recovery through the one key recovery button but the same thing happens. lenovo screen for a few minutes then a completely black screen for hours. I dont mind losing all my files and restoring Its just i cant the system recovery to work

Answer:lenovo g580 system restore

Dear DavidF93

Welcome to Lenovo forums

There are some conditions that need to be fulfilled on order for the recovery to work
1-the OS that came preloaded with the machine was not changed2-the HDD was not resized

If these conditions apply please start the recovery as follows

1-Turn off your machine2-connect the charger3-press once on the Novo button and select system recovery4-select restore from initial backup and start the recovery

You may also check if the HDD is detected in the BIOS or not as this may be an issue with itYou can go to the BIOS setup from the Novo button menu and select BIOS setup

Thanks

Call support and ask for a set of recovery discs. They may charge you for them, but they will return your system to the factory state.

Hello there,Here's the situation: I just refreshed my PC by loading the pre-installed Windows 8 (OEM image). Then, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and decided to back-up my PC using OneKey. However, a dialogue box appears and states "Current system can not support back up" as shown by the image below.  I thought there was a problem with the upgrade, but the OS is working pretty well. Tried to investigate and I just saw that there are problems with my partitions as indicated by the image below.  As you can see in the image above, some of the OEM partitions are deleted. So, I tried to contact Lenovo Philippines email support but I only got the automated response email stating that they have successfully received my e-mail and that I will receive a response from them. Unfortunately, I did not. Well, I have also messaged Lenovo Philippines in Facebook. They replied and asked for my concern. So, I told them what happened but did not hear from them anymore. With that, I'd like to ask: how do I restore the OEM partitions? They're so important for me because every time my PC runs into trouble, I just reload my factory settings. Now that the OEM partitions are lost, I can't access the genuine Windows 8 that comes with my PC in case something might happen.Thank you in advance for your responses!Spoiler (Highlight to read)

Hi all, I have a u310 Touch that had Windows 8 preinstalled. I have the recovery USB that was created when I bought the computer. I had wiped the drives and installed Ubuntu. I have since erased Ubuntu and want to restore to Win8. Both the 25GB SSD and 500GB HDD are blank and unallocated at the moment. There are no recovery partitions, just two blank unallocated drives. The recovery media will not let me restore, since it can't find the system drive. Wondering what to do next? Thanks in advance!

I called to purchase a restore disk for an R61i laptop. I was informed that since my laptop is 6 months out of warranty, Lenovo will not sell me a restore disk. This I am told, is a new policy implemented in the last few months. How nice to let me know that. Thanks Lenovo, never again.

Answer:Lenovo won't sell a restore disk.

Apart from that have you ever created recovery media for your machine. Plus if you restored the system have you used the recovery partition? if so go into the ThinkVantage menu and select create recovery media. You will then be able to burn the recovery cds. Please use a CD for the first media and the rest can be DVD. The program will identify the media and burn accordingly. Fingers crossed!

I will try to make it short for everyone. 1. Got the laptop, started it, and create recovery disks from the ThinkVantage tools2. Removed the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and installed a solid state drive (SSD)3. Rebooted with the Recovery Startup Disk4. Recovery does it's magic and then asks me to reboot5. On booting, the Windows Boot Manager says that \Windows\system32\winload.exe is either missing or corrupt. So I tried redoing the recovery, to no avail. Any suggestions? EDIT: I tried to do the advanced recovery and under "System Information Viewer" everything is blank. Which I do not really understand. The computer is obviously running, so there is a processor and memory. I tried a Windows installation disk and it seem the SSD just fine. I am lost here.

Answer:Lenovo W520 Restore from DVD not working

Search to confirm, but every upgrade to SSD described here (and my upgrade to an mSATA) seems to include taking out the hard drive during the OS install so Windows doesn't get confused about what to do. I and others just reinstalled the mecahnical hard drive as soon as the OS proved stable. Then you can decide what to do about partitions, or erasing the old OS etc. Perhaps this will help. jonathan7007

At the company I work for we have several T61 laptops that we depolyed with our own image.  However, we now need to restore them to their factory image. Our original imaging process deleted all previous partitions so  it was impossible to do the restore via the restore partition thus we ordered a set of restore disks from  Lenovo.(1 boot CD, 6 restore CDs and a supplemental disk) The installation seems to go fine until  the last disk, at which time is says the restore failed. I have made sure that the model number of the laptop is one which the restore disks supportI have tried this with 3 different model numbers (all supported) and on 6 different laptopsduring the install I have answered... I have a supplemental disks and inserted it and I have answered.. I have no supplemental disk and had the install continue. (both ways fail)  Any insight or troubeshooting help is appreciated.Thank You

Answer:Lenovo Restore Disk Error

Since you've tried this on several systems and the restore failed on all of them I'm wondering if the recovery media, i.e. one of the CDs, is defective. You might want to run the CD set through a diagnostic that reads and verifies all files. See e.g. Fix problems with CD or DVD drives that can?t read or write media.

Answer:Lenovo G70-80 - PXE - E61: Media test failure

Hi Vlatka1234 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Message means it failed to detect the device like harddrive from where it should continue the process of booting to the operating system.

"PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable  PXE - M0F: Exiting PXE ROM"

Try in initially checking the BIOS if the harddrive is visible then reset the BIOS default if needed .
Turning on the machine using the Novo Key (item 2 page 78).

Reseating the harddrive  (removing and then placing back making sure that the connections are good) can also help.
Else, having the drive replaced or tested with aa known good working drive can isolate the issue further.

Update us how things go.

When i restarted it, i got an EFI error, but not i am getting the PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable. Error, and i don't know what to do. I found this solution: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Problem-with-Stat-Up-Z370/m-p/633573, but i don't know which button is that. Thanks in advance. EDIT: I found this option on the BIOS, but when i choose it i get the same error.

Hello. I'm trying help my Father-in-law out. He has a Lenovo G570 Laptop. It came with Windows 7, but he since has upgraded it to Windows 8. It has a bunch of viruses running on it, so I was going to restore it back to factory default for him, but OneKey Recovery does not work now. I'm guessing that the Windows 8 upgrade has something to do with it. I have tried both pressing the OneKey Recovery button to start the laptop up, but it just starts Windows 8, and I have tried running the OneKey Recovery application, but it just gives an error message. I am fine with restoring it back to Windows 7, but how do I access the recovery partition without OneKey Recovery? Ideas? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer:Lenovo G570 Restore to Factory Problems

Hi bankerdave,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If the Recovery Option is not working on your system it might be that the Upgrade cause the Partition not to work.
You can either

1 .Order a recovery disc from lenovo (fees may apply)

Support phone list

2. If the machine is preloaded with Win7 Home Premium 64bit SP1, you will need to obtain a Win7 ISO and follow this guide on how to make it bootable. From there, you can use the WIn7 product key on the G570 (bottom sticker) to activate Windows.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Hi, I had an accident with my laptop and althought they fixed it for some reason one of the two word files I was working on is lost. I dont know if may be in my panic I saved one over the other but the two recovery (.tmp files) that Windows created are both different versions of just one file. I tried to access previous versions but although that option is ON on my laptop there are no previous versions of these files (although I've worked on them for several days). Please help! Is there any other way I can try and restore the second file as well?

I am new to this and have never used a forum however a friend of mine told me about it so here I am asking the community very important question the question is; "how do i restore my lenovo b575 to factory settings?"

Answer:how do I restore my Lenovo b575 to factory settings

Why do younneed to go such a drastic step? A factory reset/restore will wipe "all" your personal files in the process. Ensure you have all your personal files safely copied/duplicated to dvd, and if possible an external hard drive too - before going any further. Verify those copies are truly accessible too, and ideally on at least one other computer (if possible).

Hi guys, I'm really sorry if the topic has been already somewhere on the forum, but I've spent hours trying to find an answer to my question. Unfortunately unsuccessful. So I bought Lenovo Z500 last year. I changed the partition sizes as I keep separately partition for my documents, separately for the software and separately for Windows. Right now I have:Disk C: 200GBDisk D: (Lenovo) 25GBDisk F: 195 GBDisk G: 488GB Unfortunately lately I've had a problem with my microphone (it wasn't working). So I decided to reinstall Windows and everything. I used that button which is on the left hand side of my laptop. Reinstalling windows went pretty smoothly, but what happened is that only my partition C has been wiped and restored. My question is: how can I restore my laptop to factory settings (including number of partition etc.). Do I have to have an CD or anything or I am able to do it from the hidden partition?

This is stated in the user's guide. Your only chance is to call techsupport and ask for the recovery disc set to reinstall the os.

My hardrive crashed so I purchased a new harddrive and attempted to use the restore CDs I created to install the factory software that came with my lenovo 3000 J105 and I receive the following error "Windows was unable to save all the data for the file C:\Recovery\CM2AAUS.IMD. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure." Please help.

Answer:lenovo 3000 J105 Restore failure

Unfortunately this is a mystery that seems the only answer is the restore discs rely on installing the recovery on drives approved by lenovo. If the detection program does not find a specfic HD on the list, it cancels itself.

I replaced a damaged hard drive on my Lenovo x200 with XP.How do I get the computer to boot again (install factory settings with XP)? I don't have any recovery disks...I backed up the data files, but I don't have an image of the drive. Please help.

Answer:Restore Lenovo X200 Thinkpad to Factory

well then you would need a recovery media, since you are probably out of warranty, this means you would need to buy a set from Lenovo. Also, you would need an external DVD player to do the recovery from these recovery discs.

Hello eightforums,

I have windows 8.1 on a lenovo laptop. A week ago there was an update and I installed it. But after that I first noticed that there was no sound. The volume control has always a red cross and I can't adjust it. Whenever I go to control panel the window freezes. Same goes windows update/recovery/system restore and other pc settings. I think something went wrong with installing the update so i want to go back to a point before that update. But how do i do that when i cant go to control panel/windows update etc.?

Can somebody please help me?

Thank you very much in advance!

Greetings,

Kevin

Answer:how to restore my lenovo y510p preinstalled windows ?

Seems like you have tried most of the options - 1. OKR will not work since the parition is deleted.2. There is no recovery disk.3. There is no system image to revert to.4. Lenovo will not provide the recovery disk, if I understand correctly.5. I believe you did not extract and write down your Windows Key either. Have you tried pressing the NOVO button on the side of your laptop? What does it do now? Lenovo usually provides the recovery disks after a certain payment. I would advise that you purchase a Retail Windows copy and use that. EDIT --- I dont think Microsoft will provide support for this Windows, since it is not a Retail version but you can always try to contact them and ask for a recovery procedure. If nothing, they might just offer a discount on a new windows purchase.

Hi all,I am wondering if anyone has any experience in using Lenovo's Enhanced Backup & Restore. My situation is that I am thinking of updating the firmware on my MyDigitalSSD 128GB mSATA SSD to the latest version. However, from what I read, the update will wipe the mSATA SSD. Also, at the moment, I have been backing up my C:\ to an external HDD weekly using Lenovo's Enhanced Backup & Restore software. My question is if my steps below are workable and if the Enhanced Backup & Restore program will restore my system back to the latest backup?1. Use Enhanced Backup & Restore program to backup the latest image of my system.2. Update firmware on my mSATA SSD. All data will be wiped.3. Use my Recovery Discs to restore the mSATA SSD to Lenovo's factory image.4. Use Enhanced Backup & Restore program to restore the latest image.Any comments, anyone? Thanks in advance!

When my laptop becames extremely sluggish, I decided to restore it to the original factory setting using the Rescue and Restore feature. Everything went fine and I was able to start Vista Home again.  Then I noticed that my C: drive has been assigned to the SDHC memory card left in the laptop during Restore.  My hard drive is now Q: which causes a lot of problems because everything requires a link to the C: drive. The obvious solution is to go back and redo Rescue with the SDHC card removed.  But upon restarting windows and pressing F11, I can't get the Rescue & Restore menu as before.  I could see it (or at least, the BIOS Setup Menu) flashed by very quickly before I got to the Windows login promt.  I tried pressing F8, F9, <return> but I just can't get it to stop/pause at that menu to wait for my input. I truly hope someone can help me with this.  I have tried to reinstall "Rescue and Recovery" but it cannot be done because the installation window is not available.   My guess is that because C: is considered the 4 Gb SDHC card, not everything was installed correctly during the previous Restore process. Thanks!

famster99, welcome to the forum,

if you created recovery discs you'll need to use them to get the system back to factory settings. If you didn't create the discs, you need to.

If none of the above works, contact support and ask them to send you the discs; 1-800-426-7378

Hope this helps

Do you want to reset to the factory image?

If yes, then I dont think this is the correct option, you will need to reset your laptop and not RESTORE.
Did you create a restore point initially, this function will only work then.

Answer:restore to factory settings lenovo g560

On page 25 of your user manual it covers the "OneKey" recovery process.... Here is a clip from that page:

Using Lenovo OneKey Rescue system (Without Windows operating system):
In the event that the operating system cannot be loaded, follow the steps below to access OneKey Rescue system.

Shut down your computer.
Press the key to launch OneKey Rescue system.
Within the program, you can choose to restore your system partition to the original factory status, or to a previously generated backup.

Cheers
