T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Question: T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

I've just gotten what I hoped would be an awesome new T540p.  So far, the experience is going horribly because I can't seem to use the Trackpoint reliably.  Specifically, when I click the trackpoint button on either side - left or right -(virtual buttons along the top edge of the clickpad), absolutely nothing happens.  No right click menu, no mouse click - no action of any kind is recorded.  Let me be clear - the clickpad is visibly and fully depressed.  There is no doubt at all that the clickpad has been depressed.  But there is no actual mouse click action.   In order for me to get a reliable "click" out of the Trackpoint click area on the clickpad, I have to move my thumb down and in to the tracking area of the clickpad.  This is very awkward and involves wrist movement.  Compare this to the superior design of the old T530 trackpoint buttons - they are angled and shaped so that they are perfectly located to be pressed by your thumb without having to bend your thumb or move your wrist, your fingers get to stay right on the home row where they belong. Lenovo:  I use and love the TrackPoint.  It and the keyboard are the reason I purchase thinkpads.  Without it, I could and would buy any other manufacturer.  Please put my TrackPoint buttons back.  Or at least let me choose to order the T540 with a T530 keyboard/trackpad so that we have a choice!  I would easily pay an extra... Answer:T540p Trackpoint - clicking virtual buttons on clickpad gives no response

You are not the only one experiencing these problems. For a TrackPoint user the new "clickpad" is a physically flawed design. Too much pressure is required for a click, and the erratic behavior has not disappeared with any of the driver updates.  It seems that the whole physical desing of the "clickpad" without separate mouse buttons is flawed. The ergonomics of the keyboard not very good either. I do not know any TrackPoint user who thinks the new desing usable at all. Some people liking it have written about it, but apparently most of the people who like the new desing are not TrackPoint users who do not move their hands when writing.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

The new 2014 X1 Carbon got rid of the physical buttons for the trackpoint.   I am adjusting to that.  However, in more than one unit we are piloting we have an issue. A user that mainly uses the TrackPoint stick, will use their right thumb to left click constantly.  We are finding it to not be consistent.  And it often results in the user having to click twice on things. We have tried to adjust the "Edge Tap Filtering" - though I don't think that is related, as that is focused on taps, not clicks. Some people tried to turn off the "middle button" and focus there thumb more towards there.Overall, we believe the adapative keyboard, the physical keyboard changes and the trackpad button changes are all things people can evolve and get used to.   HOWEVER, if left-clicking is not accurate, it will drive people crazy and hurt our forecasted 500+ unit order. I am praying this can be resolved by a driver update.

Have a look in the T series forum.  There are hundreds of complaints about the new "clunkpad" with no physical buttons causing problems.  I fear this is a major design error by lenovo which will lose them tens of thousands of customers within months ...

Answer:Trackpointer and Trackpoint buttons (left and right) disabled and unable to turn it back on

OP here.Update:  I fixed the fingerprint reader problem  by deleting the existing fingerprint record and imprinting a new one to turn the computer on and log onto windows at same time. Trackpoint and Trackpoint buttons are still disabled and not able to be enabled as dialog box option is greyed out.

On a fresh Window 7 install it is possible to tap-to-click when using the Trackpoint rather than pressing down on the Clickpad (which is *very* noisy compared to the X220/X230 buttons and requires far more force). This is very nice alternative to using the Clickpad for left/middle/right button clicks when using the Trackpoint only. It requires almost no force, it generates zero noise and is very comfortable. Unfortunately, upon installing the Synaptics Ultranav drivers from Lenovo SU, this function is no longer present! You MUST click down the Clickpad otherwise it is not possible to register a left/right/middle click when using the Trackpoint. Even with Touchpad enabled this functionality is not present, which is quite baffling because you would expect that when the Trackpoint is used, the touchpad should behave as mouse buttons + gestures + scroll zones. I remember that there were plenty of tricks that could be done through registry entries to enable/disable "hidden" functions of the Synaptics driver. Is there a knowledge base that I could browse and find out if there is a way of enabling the tap-to-click feature when using only the Trackpoint?

Answer:L440 Clickpad - "Tap to click" function not working in "Trackpoint Only" mode

Hi Harris,

could you clarify / confirm that the "press to select" function was present and you were able to utilise it please?

To my knowledge on the previos SL series and the current L series this was/is not a feature which was/is offered although it was a feature on T and X series up to and including the *30 series systems.  There is also no mention of this feature in the PSREF documents.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hey Guys, I'm just wondering if Lenovo has said anything about possibly switching back to tactile buttons for the trackpoint or not? Even if it's an after-market install, I'd still be really interested in this. From what I've used of the new setup, it ruins 1/2 of the reasons I chose ThinkPads and I'm looking for a new laptop, but am unable to justify using the awful new trackpoint buttons. For now I will likely go with an older model, but I was really hoping to get my hands on the t440p with 4 cores so I could actually do virtualization on my laptop. Thanks for any help!

Been bumbling along quite happily with my ThinkPad 600/2645/45U running on 98SE for quite a while. It's my in-car system.Only a slight niggle. With the trackpoint device, there are three buttons to represent the three mouse buttons. I would like to configure the (currently non-functioning) third button to be the 'double-click' button. However, search as I may, I cannot find a meaningful driver that will allow me to do this. I have found (I hope) a 'contact' facility to ask IBM, but I'm not 100% certain that I found the right one or that I will get a reply.Has any nice person out there had the same 'problem' and found a driver?Chris

Hi All,

The trusty T61 (14.1" widescreen, 7662) has lost its TrackPoint buttons.  All 3 of them.  Keyboard works, lower TrackPad buttons work.

It looks like the upper buttons are part of the keyboard assembly.  I'll pull the kbd tomorrow and reseat the connector.  Anything else I should check?  Any simple way to determine whether it's a kbd/TP button failure or something else?

i'm hesitant to put much into the machine since it has a discrete GPU.  Running fine so far, but on the "doomed" list.

Thanks,
Z.

Hi, I have a weird problem with my T440p's TrackPoint (running Windows 7 Pro, x86) using out-of-the-box settings. Basically, it seems that its buttons do not work at all - the designated upper regions of the TouchPad (which should supposedly function as TrackPoint dedicated buttons) produce no effect upon clicking. Also, if I disable the TouchPad in the Mouse control panel module (ThinkPad tab), I can no longer click anything and have to resort to keyboard navigation to restore mouse functionality. What is interesting is that this is the second T440p unit I have tried to use the TrackPoint on and failed. The first one was also running Windows 7, but had a different screen (HD+, while the current one is Full HD) and CPU (2-core i5 vs. current 4-core i7). How do I use the TrackPoint buttons, again? Cause it's obvious by now that it does not work the same way as on my trusty X220 machine...

My E520 Thinkpad is only a few weeks old.  The first time I used it the trackpoint and buttons worked, but since then the red pointer works, but the buttons do not.  I have tried to download the driver update for the ultra nav several times, but once it tries to finish the box just scrolls forever and the installation does not happen.  I am not even sure this will repair the problem.  Also, I have not been able to download the Diagnostic Tool without an error.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all Can anyone help me diagnose a problem I'm having with a friends T410. The trackpoint and touchpad buttons have stopped working (both left and right click). I am forced to use the laptop with an external mouse. The trackpad and touchpoint themselves both work just can't click anything, I have tried uninstalling drivers and re-installing but that hasn't helped, have also run Hirens boot cd - Mini XP mode and the buttons don't work there either. Sounds like a hardware issue to me but would like a second opinion before I start pulling it apart! Many thanks Chris

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.

Hi there, a buddy of mine got a ibm r52 laptop recently from a relative that sat for a few months. anyways, it was given to him and it worked great for about a week then he noticed issues with the keyboard, trackpoint, scroll pad and buttons not working sometimes after boot.
And when they dont work...they dont work. Its not a on and off thing...its either or.

So he has me looking at it...

I dont think its a big issue b/c the keyboard will ALWAYS work when i want to go into the BIOS. I loaded up a Acronis TI boot disk and the keyboard and trackpoint worked fine...but then i tried it again and only the keyboard worked and no trackpoint or pad.

So far i have tried updating the BIOS and embedded controller to the latest with no luck.
Ive also tried a quick fresh install....no luck...still either on or off.

However, if i plug my usb wireless mouse in the mouse cursor works fine...always...

So i guess my next step is to open her up, but im waiting to hear back on any suggestions first....and i got to find a service manual for it...
Thanks for reading.

Hey everyone, I disconnected my keyboard the other day to shake out some dirt, and upon reconnecting it found that my TrackPoint buttons were dead.  The TrackPoint itself is fine and no other keyboard buttons seem to be affected.  The backlight works well too.  I've attempted to disconnect and reconnect the keyboard to no avail.  I'm worried that the flatflex cable has a broken trace, but visual inspection seems to say that everything is good.  Anyone else experienced this problem?  Does this seem like a case for buying a new keyboard? Thanks!  Please let me know if I should reference another discussion.  I couldn't find any existing threads.

In the mouse options under trackpoint properties the trackpoint is disabled and the slider to enable it is greyed out. in bios the trackpoint is enabled. I tried to update the driver but it says it is up to date. help please!

Answer:T450 trackpoint and buttons not working

Hello! Both the trackpoint and the buttons above the touchpad have stopped working on my Thinkpad T450.

The trackpoint stopped working awhile ago, while the buttons above the touchpad stopped working the other day, perhaps meaningfully around the time that a lenovo program on the computer did a 'standard' hardware scan.

Another problem is that my access to the standard support features of the lenovo website have been compromised as the main website will not recognice my Serial Number. The 3rd party website through which you organise on-site support does recognise the serial number, so I know that I am typing it correctly. However I am loath to organise on-site support for a problem which hopefully should be simple to solve.

Thanks.

Lenovo finally reverted back to the 3-button trackpads in their lineup after the disaster no-button clickpada.  I'm very glad about that except that I am stuck with a First Generation Thinkpad Yoga with the dreaded clickpad and want to upgrade it  to the new 3-button trackpad version found on the Second generation Thinkpad Yoga (just released).  Does anyone know the part number of that trackpad?  I can't get a part number from tech support because they keep asking me for a machine serial number and I don't have a Thnkpad yoga 2nd gen machine!  Does anyone know if these parts can be swapped?  (I'm hoping the dimensions and connections are identical).  Any info in this matter would be greatly appreciated.  If you think Lenovo should send folks a replacement 3-button trackpad to replace the clickpads, please voice your opinion! Thanks

Hello, I have a Lenovo X230 and have a quick question, is it possible to disable the TrackPoint knob (the red knob) while keeping the buttons active? Disabling TrackPoint through the UltraNav driver results in having both the knob and the buttons disabled, the same thing goes for disabling it in the BIOS. Note that this model only has those two buttons build in while newer Lenovo models has two pairs of buttons (above and below the TrackPad). See: http://cdn.asia.cnet.com/story_media/62218216/1.jpg

Answer:X230 - Disable TrackPoint but not buttons?

you can in a way. Just select advanced feature only within the ultranav selection for the trackpoint. This way the trackpoint nib would only act as page scroller and won't move the pointer per se. Then you can switch the trackpoint sensitivity to firm touch. This is what i do for people whom can't use trackpoints.

Is it just me, or do the X230's trackpoint buttons seem really low? They don't seem to have a bump in the front that makes them easy to press. This in addition to how slippery and low the point is compared to the one on my X201 makes pointing and clicking a miserable experience.

The 3 physical buttons below the space bar, they aren't working.  The keyboard, the trackpoint stick and the touchpad ARE all working.  Just the 3 buttons don't work. I even tried unplugging/reseating the keyboard from the motherboard, it's all secured nicely, no dust or obstructions. Windows 8.1 installation (previously buttons working on this same install) I have tried almost everything.  Basically I didn't even notice anything was wrong because for months I was working with an external mouse and keyboard.  Then today, when I went back to work on the laptop without the external mouse/keyboard, I noticed the problem. Everything else is working.  I updated to the latest ultranav drivers.  I'm thinking there is something screwy somewhere in the registry or with some windows update or something?  Any suggestions very much appreciated.

Answer:Trackpoint physical mouse buttons not working

*bump* Issue still not resolved.  Anyone have any ideas? After lots of searching it seems it might be a fuse on the motherboard?  Would the fuse, as mentioned here...http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=100537...does any one know if that fuse (or something simillar to it on the x220) would allow for the point stick, the trackpad and trackpad clicks and all the keyboard keys to work, and only the signiture lenovo 3 mouse buttons not to work?? Without the 3 buttons my pointing stick is useless, and I always much prefer that option to the trackpad as I can use it while leaving my hands on the keyboard in typing position. I'm now thinking it's either a fuse, as described in the above link, or it is some sort of odd registry error or windows setting/update conflict or something like that. In a few days when I have more time, I am going to load Ubuntu on a memory stick, and live boot it without the need to install and see if the buttons work there.  They should be picked up as a regular mouse via default drivers.  If it's not working their, then it's a hardware or bios issue. Anyone who knows better, please inform me.  -cheers

As it stands the t440s is unusable for trackpoint users. Clunking the clunkpad is stressful both physicall for repetitive stress, the sound is psyhcologically stressful, and it is even annoying my coworkers. The driver update today Feb 28th does nothing to resolve the main problem, which is that there is no tap to click option for trackpoint users. You have to thunk and physically click when using the trackpoint. LENOVO, are there plans to fix this?

Answer:Are the plans to allow trackpoint tapping to click rather than clunking to click on the clunkpad?

Better yet, allow a trackpoint click to be registered with pressure rather than an actual tap. This would be ideal and maybe even better than the previous physical buttons.  Tell me this is coming and I won't return my t440s. It looks feasible, linux developers are implementing in their t440s driver.

Could someone from Lenovo let the forum know if it will be possible to replace the W540 Trackpad / Bezel / Keyboard assembly with the new one from the W541 which has integrated physical Trackpoint buttons.  This would make a very big difference to me and I suspect a lot of other W540 owners who use the Trackpoint. I am the current owner of 5 Thinkpads and have been a loyal customer since the 600 series. The increased pressure necessary to generate a less reliable click on the Trackpad has greatly exacerbated a problem with the top joint of my right thumb - I have had to retrain myself to use my left thumb to do all clcking.  The problem was nowhere near as bad on the old Trackpoint buttons - where I could use them with my right thumb for several hours with no symptoms, I can now manage only minutes.

Answer:Replace W540 Keyboard with W541 Trackpoint Buttons

Add me to the list of W540 that wish to have a real workstation with original IBM style trackpad WITH BUTTONS! Similarly, we need to somehow add an LED to indicate HD I/O's. Maybe integrate this into the new PROPER trackpad. Example: Right now I'm copying off my NAS, 2.5 gig of PDF files catalogued by Calibre. The transfer has been running over 2 hours and only 35% done, and I have NO IDEA if data is transferring when the screen blanks out.  Thankfully, Western Digital's external Passport drive has an LED that flashes with the I/O, and this is the ONLY indicator that tells me the NAS data flowing and being backed up to the USB drive. Crypting does slow the data. Now, I realize that what I'm doing is not the best - using my WiFi connect for the transfer and USB 3.0 -, which is slow on this 'marketing promoted' Workstation. Hopefully I stuck it in the right port, as none are color blue identified, left front. ....  I'm blue <g>.

Hello, I updated my OS to Windows 10. Everything works perfectly except of trackpoint/touchpad. The first issue is really a critical one - trackpoint buttons are practically useless. Single button click causes the mouse click event multiple times - for example opens 6 new cards in a web browser instead of one. I've found another post here describing in detail exactly the same problem but the author didn't get any response, neither from HP nor the community: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Elitebook-8570w-built-in-mou... The driver delivered with Windows (which is also listed as compatible with Windows 10 on HP's 8570w support site http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5257503&swItemId=ob_152050_1&swEnvOid=419... version 19.0.12.0, causes the problems I mentioned earlier. The updated one from Synaptics website (19.0.19.1) additionaly prevents the OS from detecting the middle button... Additionally, the only gestures I can use are the basic ones - no advanced 3- or 4-finger ones (please don't tell me that the hardware is incompatible because similar gestures worked on Windows 8.1 I used earlier). I have a dual boot with Win10 and Linux and on Linux everything works flawlessly, so it's definitely not a hardware problem What should I do to make my touchpad and trackpoint fully functional?

Firstly I'll explain the freezing issue (this is now the 3rd time I've typed this, as the first two times my laptop froze before I finished!)I run my laptop with the battery at 100% and plugged in and that's fine; as is running it on battery. The problem arises when my battery is low and I plug it into recharge. Soon after it's running on a/c the screen will go black and only way to shut down is by holding the power button. If I try to restart it too soon, the indicator lights next to the power button will illuminate, but the screen will stay black. Usually after 5-10 minutes it'll boot to the IBM screen & boot the rest of the way, but not too long into normal operation it'll go black again (sometimes hitting ctrl/alt/del will bring the screen back but it would be very distorted (pixilized) and would go black again and reboot. What could be causing these problems while recharging the battery? I've tried this with a couple different batteries (both OEM IBM) and it does it with both.  Secondly, both left and right "mouse" buttons are now nonfunctional (though the middle button of the track points works.) I have the latest version of Ultranav Wizard and all the buttons are enabled. The touch pad and trackpoint ball work fine, just the 2 left and 2 right buttons do not. What could be the culprit for this issue? Luckily I have a usb mouse so that's what I'm using for the time being.Message Edited by GoalieFergy53 on 02-14-2009 02:30 PM

Hello, I have just purchased an x250 which has the new dedicated trackpoint buttons. However these do not function even though the latest driver is installed. The trackpoint does not function either. The synaptics settings have the trackpoint unticked (disabled) and greyed out, its not possible to enable it there. The BIOS is updated and the trackpoint is enabled in there.  Does anyone have an idea how to enable the trackpoint?(sidenote the touchpad functions well)

Hi Guys,I've had a problem with the screen of my X100e that I started to notice a few months after purchasing it. Basically the TrackPoint & its buttons have gradually worn marks into the screen. It happened so gradually at first that I didn't really notice it unless the screen was under bright lights, but now it's to the point of being (pardon the pun) an eyesore.I contacted Lenovo by their online technical support feedback form. I also contacted them directly by email. I also took photographs highlighting the evidence. My problem is that my warranty is now extinct. Between 'trying' to contact Lenovo & getting to this point I had the usual sickness & family issues one tend to have to deal with while a warranty is slowly clicking away...I've had no further contact from Lenovo. I was wondering where I stand. I still have the copies of the emails I sent while my warranty was valid. I've also kept the photographs I took while my warranty was still valid.I wouldn't usually worry but I've come to love my little X100e & now the screen impacts the quality of watching movies, etc.As Lenovo doesn't answer my emails, can anyone offer any advice or information regarding having seen this particular issue before. Phone support in Australia hasn't been the best either, btw...Many thanks in advance,Simon ParsonsPS. I don't trust myself to write in depth, as my anger grows with the removal of yet more features that set ThinkPads apart from the competition. Lenovo's design department is driving us diehard users to scorn the reliable series of tools we long recommended for purchasing in the tens to thousands. What's left to set ThinkPads apart? Why should we be loyal to a brand that isn't loyal to us? ThinkLight: useful for far more than keyboard illumination, such as book reading, and a long time key differentiatorTrackPoint: hard buttons are superior, every reviewer and user comments I've read agreevendor lock-in to Lenovo hardware: https://www.change.org/petitions/lenovo-release-an-unencumbered-version-of-the-biosKeyboard: you have removed keys that power users use -- the dedicated customer base for ThinkPads and your most fervent supporters

Hello - I had the same problem a few weeks after upgrading from windows 7 pro 64 bits to windows 10 pro 64 bits on my t420s. I tired to replace the hardware without sucess with a new palmrest assembly. Finally I found a solution that fixed it by going to the mouse and trackpad settings in windows 10 and there changing the delay setting for the trackpad to respond - once I had changed that setting everything (trackpad buttons and trackpad) worked again.

Hi Mookid,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that trackpoint doesn?t work when you use the keyboard.

Try this. Open up the charms bar, go to "Settings", and then click "Change PC Settings". Within "PC Settings", click "PC and devices". Click "Mouse and touchpad", and under the header "Touchpad" using the dropdown menu, select "No delay?!

Hope this helps!

Hi there, I have a weird problem. First, I am running Windows 7 beta (build 7100) on my T60 (type 2007), so that could be the reason, and I assume it's probably software related in any case. But anyway, in case some of you have experience with the problem, here goes. The other day the mouse buttons on my UltraNav, for no apparant reason, stopped functioning. The trackpoint is working fine as is the middle scroll-button and the touchpad. But I can't left or right-click. Both the buttons above and below the touchpad are gone. Pretty weird, as the upper mouse buttons are connected through the keyboard-connector-cable and the touchpad and the buttons below that are connected via a seperate cable. I've checked the settings in the UltraNav tab and they're ok, and I'm using the latest driver (9137), and have tried reinstalling it.No luck. Any ideas - besides reinstalling/downgrading Windows, which I'll probably do anyway if nothing else helps?

Hi all, I have an E540 and Windows 8 (I also have Linux and the problem doesn't happen there, its just in Windows 8). I can use tap to click when I navigate with the trackpad. However, as soon as I start using the trackpoint, I can no longer tap to click. When I go back to using the trackpad, tap to click starts working again. I've tried fiddling with the settings in control panel, but haven't found anything to change it yet (tap to click is checked there)

Answer:Tap to click not working when using trackpoint

Hi Gibba,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Tack pad on ThinkPad E540.

Please go to control panel -- mouse ? UltraNav ? Track Pad setting and Check the box Enable press to select option.
If you are unable to find UltraNav option, the you have to install touchpad drivers for that.

Click here to check the track pad setting.

Hope this helps.

Hi,I recently got a Thinkpad T440s and I have two problems when using the trackpoint:1) When trying to right click, I like to hit the uppermost part of the trackpad (where it is slanted). However, this registers as a left click. Is there a way to change this (and if not could someone explain to me the rationale behind this)?2) Is there a way to enable middle clicking without 3rd party software? So far, I have only found this thread which suggests using TPMiddle. I just wanted to ask if that's still the way to go.Thanks

Answer:T440s: Trackpoint + right click and middle click

Did you experiment with the settings in the "ThinkPad" tab within the Mouse Properties dialog? (Tap <WinKey>, type "mouse" and choose the Lenovo UltraNav item that is found.) I've noticed that if both TrackPoint and TrackPad are active, it tries to intelligently swtich the location of the right click for you .. but not always what you had in mind!

My ThinkPad Twist (s230) works amazing with Windows 10 except for one nagging issue: the TrackPoint and it's buttons (the three buttons between the trackpad and the space bar) to do work after resuming from sleep.  The only cure is to restart the computer, which is a hassle if I had a lot of programs/apps running..  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Lenovo drivers and the BIOS and all other devices are up to date.  My install of Win 10 was a clean install, not an upgrade. Any suggestions?

Hi.My new Lenovo S430's Trackpad works most of the time but sometimes just suddenly stops working and I have to restart the laptop using keyboard navigation Often this happens when the machine is under load like an antivirus scan or similar. Sometimes the Trackpad is also sluggish to respond, like it ignores the first touch. The Trackpoint and mouse buttons (the ones above the Touchpad) work for the first 3-5 minutes after boot up and then suddenly stops working and doesn't start again until it's restarted. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling most of the drivers (for various other issues) on the machine but it hasn't helped. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Edge S430 - Touchpad, Trackpoint & Mouse Buttons Not Functioning Correctly

News on this problem: now nothing works except the keyboard. I'm stuck using a usb mouse. The bios config page for keyboard/mouse only shows options for the Fn keys. The laptop also bricked itself briefly and gave an error beep (1, 3, 3, 1) which seems to indicate a problem with the DIMM or system board. What can I do? Will a system restore help or should I just send it back? I need help.

All,Trackpoint stopped showing any reaction and the "upper" three buttons under the spacebar do not work. In the UltraNav tab of the Synaptics mouse setup the Trackpoint pane is greyed out. I reinstalled the driver and "Utility" for UltraNav. Searching here and on the web -- so far no specific fix. I don't know what caused this, but I think I did try to install software to enlarge the area under the cursor a while back because I had to give a software demo in a big room. Well, I remember considering it but I don't remember whether I actually ran anything. And I have used the machine a lot since then and I can't imagine I haven't tried navigating dialogs, Explorer, etc., without using the trackpoint. So I think it is a very recent change. Win7 Pro 64-bit. I am the only owner. Trackpoint is "Enabled" in the BIOS. Any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated. jonathan7007

Answer:w520 Trackpoint dead, pad and lower buttons OK -- Driver/Utility reinstalled

I read a reference to the Fn+F8 key command and find that on my machine this DOES display the three-choice dialog -- with my trackpoint off ("Enable trackpad only") "Bingo!" I thought. But changing the setting to what I need does not change the machine. Changing to the center choice ("Enable trackpoint only") works on the track pad (no longer responds) but does not wake up the track point as it should. This center setting is persistent. It's the top setting that cannot be chosen. The dialog disappears the second I click on that choice.  Some of the other ThinkPad FN combos are not present on this w520 and have never been. For example the projector toggle. So I never used any of them.... But now I have to dive into the Lenovo configurations, perhaps. But I hope this Fn+F8 behavior is a clue. jonathan7007

We are starting to Roll out the T440s laptop. We are running into issues with the Trackpad like everyone else. It appears that if I want to use the Right-Click button in the upper corner I can only do so if I am using the Trackpoint. If I use the trackpad and try to Right-Click in the upper corner it does nothing. If I use the lower corner it works 50% of the time.If I use the Trackpoint and the upper right corner it works. However if I use the lower right it does not. Is there a way to change the behavior of the Trackpad/point so that I can use either the upper right and lower right at all times? It's going to be a pain to train users to use only the bottom or top depending on if they are using the Trackpad/Point.Thanks!

Answer:T440s Top Right-Click only works with TrackPoint

Hello.

I initially had this experience with my first Clickpad equipped machine, which was a T440s, and since I am a die-hard TrackPoint enthusiast, I simply disabled the touchpad in BIOS. It worked fine like that for me, but when I got my Helix, I decided to tinker with it for it to better suit my needs, and what I did was to make the right click areas bigger in the UltraNav config utility (Control Panel -> Mouse -> ThinkPad tab), and select Large in the button size.

After I did this, my whole experience of the Clickpad changed to the better, so I've enabled the touchpad again on my T440s, and the device is just superb to work on now. Sometimes I actually find myself using the touchpad, tapping (two finger tap for right click) and gestures specially, which I hardly ever do on my older ThinkPads.

I found a software bug for synaptics driver.  I am using the latest: 18.0.7.40, 5/26/2014, windows 8.1. The bug is related to unreliable middle clicking (not to be confused with TpScroll ), when the user middle clicks on the trackpoint, the OS doesn't register it.  It is possible this is a settings issue, maybe it's a "feature".  If so, can someone provide instructions on how to change it. It seems the synaptics firmware will only pass a middle click to OS if the pointer moves at the same time.  I have not tried this on Linux. To reproduce errant behavior I (this will NOT register a middle click)1. make sure middle clicks are enabled in the mouse properties and TpScroll is off2. make sure you have an application that works with middle click or displays L/M/R click state received by the OS (I am using X-Mouse button control)3. with finger clear of trackpoint, middle click with thumb4. Hello, on my ThinkPad Yoga (version 03/2015) with Win10 pro (latest updates installed) the Trackpoint randomly stops to move the cursor. The issue can be present right after booting or occur anytime, even running the device multiple hours without experiencing any problems is not uncommon. However, the three buttons still work properly when pressed. The same holds for the touchpad, an external mouse and any input via touchscreen (finger and pen). So, it is really "just" about the red rubber point itself.Sometimes suspending to RAM solves the issue for a short time. The problem seems to occur slightly more often when running on battery but I am not fully sure about that. Furthermore, only the Trackpoint of the ThinkPad itself is affected, I have not experienced this for the Trackpoint of my external ThinkPad Compact Keyboard .  I have the latest UltraNav drivers from the Lenovo website installed, version 19.0.17.22. Of course, I have taken out the rubber and checked for dust. The only thing left would be to try reproducing the issue using a Linux Live system but this is hard to do due to it occuring randomly. Does anyone have any guesses? Does this sound like a driver issue or something hardware related (some sort of loose contact or the like: Sometimes it seems that movement of the device causes the failure of the TrackPoint)? I feel a little reluctant to have replaced the mainboard on spec but I do not know what else to do. Thanks in advance.

For the longest time I thought the erratic clicking on my W530 was because of my peeled trackpad sticker, but I only figured out today that it was occurring because I had enabled Press to Click on my trackpoint. It causes unwarranted, extremely rapid clicking, almost competing with autoclicking scripts, and renders the trackpoint immobile while the clicking occurs. This is on a keyboard given to me very recently (~2 months ago) as a replacement on request by IBM ESC.I use the trackpoint extremely frequently; almost all of the mouse movement I require is performed on it in comparison to the trackpad, so perhaps there had been some wear on it after all that time.

Hi,I've a Lenovo T61 laptop. All of a sudden the left click has stopped responding on trackpoint, touchpad & mouse. Through none of the options the left click is working. Tried googling out but found no workable solutions. Please help. Laptop OS is Windows Vista 32-BIT. Thanks & Regards,Gangadhar

Answer:Issue with left click on trackpoint, touchpad and mouse - Lenovo T61

Hello,

A few things to try:

?  Create a new user account, login using that and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, then it is due to software running under your user account.
?  Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, it was due to an application which runs on startup.
?  Boot the computer from a Linux Live CD/USB and see if the problem still occurs.  If it does, then the problem is not due to the operating system and you are dealing with a hardware issue.

In the case of the latter, the usual fix would be to replace the keyboard.

Issue 1: When I vertical scroll in a web page (Chrome & MSIE) by dragging TrackPoint (stick) while holding down left UltraNav button, the cursor moves but the web page fails to scroll, or demonstrates scroll latency of about .5 to 1 second behind the stick movement.  Sometimes, I have to try a couple times to get the scrolling to occur. Issue 2: Very often I must double click on UI buttons and web page links with the UltraNav button, when I should, traditionally, only have to click once. Received the T510 about 7 days ago.  i5, Win7 64bit, integrated graphics.  I've disabled all eye candy and set theme to classic.  Updated to latest available UltraNav and display driver.  I've tried just about every adjustment in the mouse and UltraNav settings, going as far as disabling the touchpad and touchpad filters. Synaptics driver info:Driver provider: SynapticsDriver date: 3/24/2011Driver version: 15.2.19.0Download from: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66898File: 6hgx37ww  This is truly annoying and I'm about to return this laptop.  I hate to resort to that.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I've used a T43 and T61 for the last 7 years at work and never had this issue.  I love T-model Thinkpads, but this is a poor experience.

I have a brand new T510, coming from a T61p. Everything is GREAT but ONE thing... Occasionally when I am using the trackpointer (which I do often) the left click button will lose the click that it has, let me try and explain... I click down to grab a window and drag it, start dragging, suddenly without depressing the button at all, it just drops the window, and then the click kicks back on a split second later either grabbing something else or clicking something else giving it the focus. I can replicated it occasionally and opened paint, started drawing a long curvy line without unclicking the button and the line ends up with breaks in it! Has anyone had this issue? Hi there, So the other night I (quite stupidly) spilt water on my trackpad. I put it straight in the airing cupboard to dry it out for 2 days, and everything works fine except for my trackpad and the left-click button of my trackpoint. Is there anything I can do about this? Is it possible to repair the trackpoint? (I don't use the trackpad)Will sending it back to Lenovo (UK) do anything?

Answer:Spilt water on T420 - Trackpad and Trackpoint L-Click not working

Remove your keyboard and palmrest and clean up everything you can find with Isopropyl alcohol paying close attention to connectors. It doesn't take much to cause an issue with the keyboard connector. If the keyboard is gunked up you can always buy another keyboard on eBay. Good luck

Answer:how disable the trackpoint in tablet mode

That's odd that the backside of your LCD touches the trackpoint tip.  Are you missing either of the little rubber spacers near the bottom edge (edge closest to you in laptop orientation) of the palm rests?  My LCD doesn't touch the keyboard or trackpoint tip at all when I'm in tablet orientation.

Disable trackpoint when the X2xxT is in tablet mode, because slightly heavy pressure when writing in tablet mode would cause the screen to come contact with the trackpoint and thus disabling the stylus.

Can't believe this simply yet detrimental bug has survived this long.

Answer:Trackpoint moving while in tablet mode X230T

FinancialWar,

Thanks for the feedback - we did this on the Twist, but as far as I'm aware, we haven't needed to do this on other models.   I'm retitling this X230T - which model do you actually have?

Your post suggests this is an issue for X200t, X201t, X220t, X230t and so I'd like to understand is this a logical extrapolation as the mechanical design is similar, or if you have personally experienced this symptom on all 4 models?

It would be helpful if other customers commented so we can see how common this might be.

Which trackpoint nub style are you using on your model? Are all the rubber bumpers still in place on the palmrest ?

I use my tablet to run a smartboard. Sometimes when I switch to the tablet mode and back by reversing the display, the trackpoint and mouse keys stop working. The touchpad below it still works. I am running windows 7. I have gone into the control panel, under mouse, and both the trackpoint and touchpad are still both checked. ?? When I restart the functions return.

Hi, diglett

There is another driver you could try using and see if it helps. Here you will find the latest version of the Synaptics driver. Synaptics is the company that also makes the UltraNav driver. The driver is the base Synaptics driver, but it should have most, if not all, of the functionality of the UltraNav driver. You can find the driver here.

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes

My trackpoint has been working fine until recently. Today it suddenly stopped moving the mouse cursor when I move the trackpoint. Instead it scrolls the window as if the middle button has been pressed down. But I did not press the middle button. The trackpoint just can't move the mouse cursor at all. I've tried rebooting without any difference. Any solutions?

I updated the UltraNav, the auto-detect system update webpage shows that I am using a T470 (Type 20HD, 20HE) Laptop (ThinkPad), and "No drivers are required to update for your machine". And also I load the setup to default from BIOS (both trackpoint and touchpad are "ON") None of the current solutions I can find on the forum works, so please help me !

Wanting to know if others have this problem? If I use the tablet for a short period of time (1hr) in "Tablet mode" the cursor returns and the trackpoint works fine. However if I use it for say 3-4hrs in "tablet mode" and go back to the regular laptop configuration the cursor is missing and the trackpoint will not respond!!! All keyboard keys function without problem (left and right mouse buttons are non-operational as well). Doing a system log-off and login back in will not solve the issue. I have to do a reboot for it to start working again. Trackpoint driver version 4.71.0.0 is installed. Running Windows7 Pro 64.

Question: Trackpoint gone...

I did the usual "Windows update" this morning. After the installation had completed I noticed that my Trackpoint has "disappeared"! There is no reaction whatsoever when pressing the red dot and I can't control the mouse with it any more. I then checked in the control panel (no trace) and then had to learn, that it doesn't even exist in the device manager, either. I then rebooted, no change. I then even powered off and reboot from power off again, still no trackpoint! And after I downloaded the trackpoint driver from the Lenovo drivers download site and wanted to (re-)install the driver, I got an error message "this driver can not be installed on non-trackpoint systems". ?!? What? What the %@$@#*%?  Where has my trackpoint gone??? How come, that it has completely disappeared? How do I get this thing working again? Edited: I later noticed, that a part of that Windows Update apparently was a new "Wacom Two Finger Touch" driver. Might that have to do with my disappeared Trackpoint? Michael PS.: Boy - is this annoying to have to work without Trackpoint!

Answer:Trackpoint gone...

I just had to learn that there is a Fn-key (F8) that allows to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad. I must have accidentally operated that button without noticing (in fact, I hadn't even known before that there IS such an option...).Its setting was on "Touchpad only". After re-enabling the trackpoint there everything came back to normal. Wheew. What a relieve! :-) And it (most probably) had nothing to do with the Windows Update - just an unlucky conincidence! Michael

Question: Trackpoint cap

I'm not sure if this is the place I'm supposed to post this. I absolutely hate the trackpoint when I type.  I type quite fast and I hit the trackpoint every once in a while -- but this is enough to really get on my nerves.  It's absolutely distracting.  Imagine typing out your thoughts then all of a sudden you hit the thing, get distracted, then irritated, and your thoughts gone.  ThinkPads are supposed to help you think.  The trackpoint unfortunately doesnt...  Are there a replacement tips that's depressed enough (and maybe colored black...) so that I dont hit it accidentally when I type?  Removing the tip works fine -- but it looks so ugly without it (makes it look like i'm using a broken equipment). Oh and I dont mind if the replacement cap will render the trackpoint unusable.  I just need it low enough so I dont accidentally hit it.

these are the three different types of trackpoint caps. You might get lucky with the first type and there is no black trackpoint caps produced by Lenovo.

You can disable the trackpoint by pressing Fn + F8 in windows and then select trackpad only. You can also disable trackpoint from BIOS menu.

Hi,

I was hoping I can get some advise here. Previously I posted it on Technet but no one answer.

I have just upgraded 50 and more of my users to Windows 10 build 10586, and I realize that some of their search and Windows button are not responding when click.
Steps done:

1. I have restarted the machine and try to click in safe mode. Safe mode is okay but normal user account doesn't work.
2. I have tried sfc / scannow, but the issue still exists after reboot. There was no integrity violation.
3. I have uncheck "Problems report and solutions control panel", and "windows error reporting service", but it still does not solve this issue. Previously this unchecking solve the flickering problem.
4. I have also tried to paste the following command in the Administrator: Windows PowerShell window and press Enter key:Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}. It also didn't work.

Source: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/i...4-08650dce7b21

I read on several forums that they advise to create another user account to solve this. I think it's a silly approach and I don't wish to recreate another user account just to solve this issue. Creating a new user account for the user means I have to shift all his/her files to a new account.

This is urgent as currently, already i have now 3 users who are experiencing the problem - their basic Windows Start and Cortana are unab... Read more

Answer:Unable to click Start and Cortana search buttons

Hi, you mentioned build 10286- perhaps you mean 10586? - from November (10586 release) the Powershell command typically
used for that broke apps where previously it repaired them. It now seems this is working again, though I've seen no statement to that effect. Are the systems you've tried to repair with that fully up to date?

If those attempts haven't worked (and recently the Powershell command has been proving effective for people here after a period from 10586 when it broke apps) then the remaining approach is an in-place upgrade repair install.

An In-place upgrade repair install will fix many things, but not those where the settings are not changed by the procedure.

For this you need an installation medium with the same base build as you have installed.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

This will refresh Windows, after the manner of a Windows installation.
- all/most associations will be unchanged
- all your programs will be left installed
- you will lose any custom fonts
- you will lose any customised system icons
- you may need to re-establish your Wi-Fi connection
- you will need to redo Windows updates subsequent to the build you have used for the repair install
- Windows.old will be created
- system restore will be turned off- you should turn it on again and I recommend you manually schedule a daily restore point.
- you will need to redo any language downloads including the display language if you changed that)

Now that the 5th gen Thinkpad is here, the decline of the trackpoint becomes ever clearer.  Frankly, most of us would not be buying Thinkpads if they didn't have the trackpoint.  That's the X1's main advantage.  But Lenovo keeps making it worse.  First, the trackpoint caps that will fit the gen 4 and 5 come in only one, unpopular, variant and you can't get the soft rim version.  But more importantly, Lenovo keeps on degrading the software control of the trackpoint.  It used to be that you could adjust the sensitivity of the trackpoint, making it more or less stiff.  Even the softest setting was inadequate but it was something.  In the 5gen there is no option to change the stiffness or responsiveness of the trackpoint's movements at all.  Lenovo: hear your customers!! Please make the trackpoint MORE not less adjustable.

Question: Choppy Trackpoint

I know I just posted a thread, but I figured that issue is global enough to warranty its own. But this one seems to be specific to me.I'm a new Thinkpad (and trackpoint) user, and the trackpoint is very choppy for me. It seems to skip frames. For example, making a circular motion with the trackpad results in a continuous, smooth motion. But not so with the trackpoint. It seems to be micro-jumping (or skipping frames as I prefer to call it). This is easily noticeable when holding down the middle trackpoint button and attempting to scroll a page. The page does not scroll smoothly at all (has nothing to do with smooth scrolling, that's something else and not what I'm talking about). Now this isn't just with this X220. Before the X220 I briefly owned a x120e that had this EXACT same problem. I asked about it and people told me that is not normal. So I returned it and got this X220, but it's the same problem. The weird thing is that while this choppiness is present in Windows, it was just fine during the Windows install process. I've tried: disabling the trackpad, reducing/increasing trapoint sensetivity, updating drivers, removing drivers and reinstalling, bumping the priority of the driver to high. None helped. What are the chances I'd receive two machines with the same problem?

Answer:Choppy Trackpoint

Disabling the trackpad from the BIOS fixed the issue it seems (its definitely much smoother). Diasbling it within Windows did not help. If I recall correctly disabling the trackpad in the x120e from the BIOS was not an option. Too bad. But odd that others do not have this problem. Oh and my palm was not resting on the trackpad

E420S, Cannot get either to work. Cannot enable trackpoint or touchpad in UltraNav.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad

Hi, ezedoh

The first thing I would recommend is the removal of the UltraNav driver from the system. This is best accomplished by using an external mouse to navigate the system. To uninstall the UltraNav driver, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver for controlling the mouse. This should reinstate the touchpad to working order. If not, then continue using an external mouse for now.

Once the UltraNav driver has been removed, I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Good afternoon all,
We have an older IBM thinkpad 600x, that my husband uses to play simple off line games and read a few emails. The past few days when booting we are getting the error #08611.
From what I have been able to find I believe that this has something to do with the trackpoint.
We use a wireless mouse with this so do not need the track point. Can someone please tell me how to disable the trackpoint?
Thanks!!!
I wish a Happy & prosperous 2010 to all.

After just a few months of usage, my W510's TrackPoint cap came loose. I ordered a three-part TrackPoint cap collection on eBay. Alas, the caps don't fit.

No surprise if you look at this photo of a non-W-series keyboard with the cap removed. The TrackPoint post in my W-series ThinkPad is yellow rather than black and significantly smaller:

Link to picture

Also, the W-series is prominently absent from the list of supported models in Lenovo's specs of the replacement caps.

Anyone know if replacement caps for the W-series are available?

Also, how would I attach the cap? Just pushing it back didn't really do it for my original cap, it kept coming loose.

Hi All,Could someone help me to identify if my trackpoint on the T420S is broken? The images are here,http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/7643/fig1k.jpg http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/199/fig2h.jpg  In the first image, the red trackpoint can easily come out of the fixture on the keyboard. If I take out the red cap, there is a black thing as shown in second image located on key "G."  I try to jam it into the fixture, but did not work out.Should this black thing need to always stay in the fixture? Is it just be glued to the fixture?Should I ask Lenovo for a service? Thanks for your help.

Answer:Is my trackpoint broken?

The images don't work, however, I think I understand.  The Trackpoint is a red rubber cap that just fits on a black plastic post between the G, H, and B keys.  It lifts right off of the black plastic post.  The post is a permanent part of the keyboard.  The "eraser" head is user replaceable when necessary. The underside of the Trackpoint "eraser" is hollowed out to fit over the black post.  It is snug, but does not require "jamming."  When in place, does it work?

Question: Choppy Trackpoint

Hello, Got x120e the other day and I have one question: This is my first Thinkpad (and first time witha trackpoint) - the trackpoint moves kind of choppy. It's not smooth movements like with the trackpad, as if it's missing frames or something. It's still perfectly useable but seems odd. Is this normal?

Answer:Choppy Trackpoint

No, it's not normal.  Mine moves as smooth as the touchpad (if not smoother) and responds to how much I move the stick.  Have you looked into the UltraNav Properties field of the trackpoint?  I'll leave this up to the experts to help you here.  This is my first Lenovo product too. But I'll like to comment that I wish the trackpoint would be at positions where your fingers will be while holding the machine.  The middle position works fine for a bigger laptop, but this is an ultraportable. Remember the IBM PalmTopPC110?  http://www.komotch2.com/tps/pt110.htm And the Toshiba Libretto:  http://www.silverace.com/libretto/libretto100j.jpg Some models' trackpoints are even located at behind the screen (i.e. on the lid).PalmTopPC110

They're integrated parts of the palm rest. A cable connects all integrated parts of the palm rest to the machine. So I guess the cable isn't plugged in firmly enough. Remove the palm rest according to the hardware manual and check. If the cable has no problem, contact Lenovo to ask for a replacement palm rest.

Question: x230 trackpoint

Hey,sometimes when I move my pointer somwhere and then release trackpoint the pointer goes a little bit backwards. Can it be fixed?Regards

Answer:x230 trackpoint

TrackPoint drift has been happening as long as I can remember, at least back to the X31.  Release the trackpoint, and it may drift towards the top left.  If you let it drift, it stops after a few seconds and after that works properly.  At least for me this happens infrequently enough so as not to be a big deal.
