Preferred Solution: Error 2100: Hard disk initialization error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Error 2100: Hard disk initialization error

It sounds like you either broke the drive or the motherboard. Can you try the drive in another machine?

This morning I installed new Hard Disk (WD Black2 Dual Drive) on my notebook Lenovo T410, then installed Win 8.1 on it too, It worked  for about 4 hours and my notebook stopped working. I tried to restart the system, but appeared the error: "ERROR 2100: HDD0 (HARD DISK DRIVE) INITIALIZATION ERROR (1). How can I fix it?

Hi, I got this error message this morning right after trying to get the laptop off standy off and it froze, so re-booted and voila this error came up... have read up a bit about it, and it seems I'd need to get a BOIS uprgade done, but dont know how to go about it now that I can't log-on... The bigger problem is that Lenovo does not support the T61P in India, andif I cant fix it by myself I am left saddled with a a very heavy paper weight! Thanks,Conred

Hi everyone, I have a working Thinkpad T61P Type: 6459 CTO. I want to install Windows 7 on this OCZ SSD drive but when I start the computer I get the error above. I tried this with the original BIOS version and with the upgraded version (2.26-1.08). I also tried upgrading the HD Firmware with this and this upgrade, but it didn't detect any upgradeable HDs. The original HD works fine and the SSD drive works perfect if I use it as USB. The SSD drive is also formatted. I'm clueless as what to do next. Any ideas, suggestions? Thanks...

Answer:T61 "2100: HDD0 (Hard Disk drive) initialization error (2)"

That usually means the hard disk drive is failing.  Seagate does offer a diagnostic program called SeaTools for Windows here on their web site to test a hard disk drive to see if it is faulty or not.  That program needs to be installed onto a working Windows computer, after which the suspect hard disk drive can be plugged into it for testing.
If you do not have access to a separate computer to boot from and attach the suspect hard disk to, Seagate offers a version of the software here on their web site that can be written to a CD-R to make a boot CD for the computer.

Hi,my just over one year old lenovo t410s is not behaving properly. It freezes up unperiodcally in widows and produces a bsod for a couple of milliseconds. When it tries to reboot right after, the following error message pops up: Error2100: HDD0 (Hard disk drive) initialization error (2) Press <ESC> to continue. Pressing escape does not lead any way, the only way to buypass this message in order to enter windows again is to undock the laptop and pull out the battery, and then insert it again. I have read a couple of forum threads and tried some fixes and some registry cleaning, but none of them seems to work. Is this a hardware fault? Do i have to replace my 128 gig ssd, if so will the warranty cover it? Or is there some fix out there Thanks//Even Låte

Answer:2100: HDD0 (Hard disk drive) initialization error (2)

It sounds like the HD is failing FAST. 1st you should already have done. Get a backup image or at least your data depending on how long it will run before generating the error. Data is lost when it hits that state so the last file is likely incomplete or useless.Have you run the HD diagnostics from your system? It part of the Lenovo tools. It could be thermal related as well. Runing in a cooler area might give you a longer run.SSD drive, well I've seen a few fail and there is no bring them back when they're going.

Hello, I secure erased the Samsung ssd in my x300. I had already done that before with no issues but this time the system did not react for an hour or two so I had to manually turn it off and back on again. Now the SSD is not recognized by the BIOS anymore - booting is sluggish and I get  2100 HDD0 Hard Disk Drive - Initialization Error (3)  I already tried attaching the ssd to an external 1,8" mSATA-> USB adapter but it didn't help.  My laptop is out warranty for about 4 months now - does anyone have an idea on how I can get it to work again w/o having to purchase a new mSATA drive (which easily runs $150) Thanks  Andreas

Hi have a problem with my x61s.Two days ago the computer started doing weird things under vista. I had to make a hard reboot. Since, vista never boot up. The hard drive is not even seen by the bios. And I have a "Error 2100 - Hard drive initialization error".I went on google to find a solution and I found this :,guid,32b17bc1-db16-4f37-a4c4-f40e53d37342.aspxBut (there is a but) the solution I found only works for Hitachi/Fujistu/Toshiba, and my hard drive is a Seagate... problem seems common. I'm a bit disapointed, as I used the laptop for a week... I did no backup, and I'm afraid I've lost a whole week of work...If any one has an idea ...

Hello, I have a T60p 2.33Ghz T7600 that I sped up by using an SSD drive from OCZ. It has been working great for about a year. All of a sudden, I start getting the infamous HD 2100 error. But here is the good news, because this is an SSD drive, all you do is turn of the notebook and reboot, and everything works. The trouble is, at first it was once a week, now it is after about 30mins. Here is the A/B test: Because my work is so critical, I have 4 identical T60p laptops that I use as spares. One goes down, pull the hard drive, move it to another. I use Acronis to make images of my hard drives. My first thought was the SSD drive was going bad, so I was going to put an image on a regular drive and put that back in the original unit. However, the first A/B test I did was to put the SSD drive in another T60p. Here is what I don't understand: The different T60p has run now with the SSD for about 9 hours with no 2100 error. This experiment makes me believe something on my main board is going bad. The error is not from the hard drive. My hypothesis is that main boards when they fail are damaging the non-SSD hard drives, and the main board is the problem not the drives. Does anyone have any evidence to support or negate this hypothesis? I have tried to find information on what the exact problem is that gives rise to the 2100 error in ThinkPads without success.

Hi, I have a T410s with the latest BIOS 1.50 and a Intel X-18M 160 GB (FRU 45N8019). If I try to boot I get the hard drive initialization error. I used the Intel Flash Tool and it says the intel drive has the latest firmware. I also changed BIOS to compatibility mode. What can I do to get this working? As I saw on Thinkwiki ( the laptop was shipped with this SDD so it should work, no? Thank you.

I have installed a Vertex 2 (2VTXE180G) some time ago in my Thinkpad T410 (2522-3FG). The installation was successfull, but after less than a week I got the 2100-Error.I thought, that the SSD could be damaged, so I sent it to warranty.Last week I got the replacement drive and today I wanted to install the drive. But it did not work. 2100-Error since the first boot. Is this a problem with T410 and the Vertex2 SSD?Should I send the drive to RMA or should I choose another drive? Does somebody run this combination without problems? Thanks,André

Dear all. Since yesterday evening i am not able to use my T60 anymore as the HDD isnt getting detected as usual. After the BIOS bootup sequence the following error appears:  ERROR2100: HDD0 (Hard disk drive) initialization error (2) Press <ESC> to continue  As far as i press ESC i am getting a new screen informing me about "Cannot boot from any device" and my HDD is outlined as "4: ATA HDD0: Device Error". I already tried to find it via BIOS and by PC Doctor HDD check tool but nothing happened. The HDD isnt getting recognized anymore. There was nothing special due to the regular usage of my T60 and i am not sure if i would be able to at -least recover, data in any way back to somewhere. Any help, idea or even support would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance and best regards SteveMessage Edited by T60_user on 11-09-2008 03:20 AM

I have a failed HDD.
In the past I have usually been able to help myself to at least retrieve any data from the HDD.
But this time the problem seems to be different. If it has any bearing, this is the first time since upgrading to Windows 7 and operating for I can't remember how long, since without any issues.
As I always have in the past, this HDD is formatted with a separate partitions (1) for the OS and program files, and (2) for my data. This has usually this been enough to retrieve my data by installing the drive in a second Thinkpad using a second HDD adapter and retrieving the data. These days I also keep most of my data on a NAS but I do have some folders on a D:\ or Data drive which I would like to retrieve.

This time however I cannot even 'see' the drive at all. Not when I try to boot from it, or as a second HDD using an adapter. It is not even visible under Disk Management in case it needed to be initialized (again?) So this time, I seem stuck, unable to help myself:

In the first instance, I get the Error 2100: HDD0 (Hard Disk Drive) initialization error (2) when booting from the drive.
When I press ESC to continue, the computer tries to initialize the HDD or something, and from memory, I think displays an 'unable to boot from any device' screen and shows the status for the devices without any operating systems.

When I try the same with the affected HDD but this time with an installation disc inserted, I do not see the 'Press any key to boot from CD or DV... Read more

Dont know what to do.. I have the corsair F120 SSD and there is no new firmware for it.. everything is up to date in my system, using win 7 ultimate. I haven't tried running SATA in compatibility mode instead of AHCI because I then have to reinstall everything and losing alot of the SSD write speed. The laptop works if I restart it after the error(ctrl+alt+delete) and I am only getting this error when I power on the laptop. I Haven't had any issues in windows at all. I really dont know what to do.

Hi (first post) On booting my PC this morning, I got error 2100: HDDo (Hard disk drive) initializatio error (2) It does not find my hard disk at all. The laptop has been working fine for the past few months - and had a new hard disk installed 3 months ago as the old got the blue 'screen of death'. So far I have tried the following: 1. Rebooted/on/off several times2. Removed the hard drive from the slot and put back i3. Dowloaded the bootable-generator.exe via my old Thinkpad T41 - although I am not sure what to do with it now it is on a USB stick - do I switch the boot sequence in the BIOS Startup so - or something?  I can't believe the hard disk has 'died' as all was working perfectly well the night before. Do you have any suggestions as to what to do? It seems very odd! Many thanks, D

Answer:Thinkpad T410 Error 2100 Hard disk drive - just 3 months old?

the platters could be stuck internally and not spinning up. But the question is if you have data you need to get off. If not get it replaced.Getting it to spin up you could take it out and give it a shake laterally and put it back in and see if it spins up. You should be able to hear it spining. If it does and you still can see it then its likely a HD controller failure.

Hi guys. I have recently purchased 2 SSD drives - 1x64gb & 1x128gb. I have the 64gb hooked up to the home pc and is running as the C:\ system drive. I wanted to hook up the 128gb drive to my notebook, but I keep getting an initialisation error (2100) - I have tried AHCI and Compatibility Mode, as well as look up various firmware upgrades and hdd firmware upgrade options via Lenovo. I was just curious if anyone has had problems with this on there system, and if so, how did you overcome it. I have tried both drives on my notebook, both providing the same error, but both work on the desktop system. I have a strong feeling it is to do with a firmware upgrade through Lenovo (ibm), as I have the most recent upgrade which is already a few months old... Hope to hear something good soon... Thnx guys in advance.

Hello everyone. Had the same problem Yesterday. Tried several times without luck. Then I read another thread on the Internet regarding this. It stated that there is a little inconsistency between the SSD SATA plug and the recieving plug in the laptop. I removed the IBM Disk bezel and put the 2 rubber guards directly on the disk and slipped it in. BEFORE this, I have put the SSD in an external USB HD Case and via Windows Diskmanager, deleted the partition on the drive. After putting it back in as described above it WORKED :-))) Please write back if anybody tries this and it works for them BR Jakob

One week ago..I had a dual boot of vista sp2 and win 7 on a WD hard disk. There was problem with one of my RAMs..but my technician was one stupid guy..he formatted the entire drive from XP Install CD.It became unaccessible from both Vista,XP,Win 7 Intsallations DVD..They said it OS cannot be installed on the disk as it was unaccessible. When I tried to initialize the disk for MBR formatting from Disk Management in Vista..It showed that the logical operation cannot be completed due to disk I/O error.I rescanned and restarted but the disk is still unallocated.
I used both Seagate and WD Diagnostic software..Both said SMART,Long DST,Short DST Long generic test...

What is the problem?Do I have to replace it?

Answer:Disk I/O error during Disk Initialization

First, as it's a WD HDD, you should only use the WD tools.

What does this mean "Both said SMART,Long DST,Short DST Long generic test..." ?

You can use the WD tools to partition and format the disk.

Hi, I bought my ThinkPad T400 (2767wc8) a little less than year ago and have been running it since with Windows 7. Everything worked fine until I decided to install a bigger hard drive. The old one was Seagate 250GB 5400.4, so I thought it would be safest bet to go with another Seagate and bought 500GB 5400.6. Installed Windows 7 64-bit on it and all the necessary drivers from Lenovo. Otherwise no errors or anything but now and then (many times a day) the computer just randomly reboots and gives 2100: hard drive initialization error when trying to boot and keeps repeating the error until I shut down the computer and start up again. Then it boots normally. I looked in event logger and found no error concerning the hard drive. I tried Lenovo's hard drive firmware update CD (newest version, ) but it said there's no need to update the firmware and would not do anything. My firmware is 0001SDM1 and the one on Lenovo's CD is 0008LVM1. BIOS is the newest version 3.09. Active Protection works fine. edit: I think installing the firmware would solve the problem, but I can't install it. Is there any way to force it?

On startup I get a popup box with "Initialization Error - error code: 0x80073b01 for MS Security Client", with a selection of choice of "OK".  This issue isn't malware related because I had an earlier topic that was used to finish the malware removal process.  Also when I shutdown my PC, I get a message to not force a logoff because 1 of 3... updates are being installed, even though my MS Security is up to date.

I wanna to Recovery my Tecra A6, but when I insert the first (of three) DVD and restart my system to get to the Recovery

Menu (while booting from the Recovery DVD) my Laptop just restarts and each time I try this (very simple procedure) this

happens again.
Therefore I'd tried to Recover it from Win XP >> Toshiba Recovery Wizard ... in the first DVD in the "BIN" folder there is

a batch file "RECOVERY.bat" when I execute this file a CMD window opens and some checks are arranged (and then the

following text appears in the CMD window:)
DMI check
RAID check
Failed to initialize the raid class.
HDD check
Error end
and a new window opens with the following text:
an error has occurred.
Error : F3E1000001
Hard disk not found.
Please press [OK] to turn off the computer.
and if I press OK the copmuter goes Immediately down (without shutting down windows) and I must turn it on again.
In addition my Laptop works properly my Recovery DVDs seems fine, I just wanna Recover my system in cause of more speed

in Win XP.
Maybe there is some new firmware for my HDD or some BIOS update so that the Laptop would detect my HDD.
In the Device manager my HDD is : HTS541010G9SA00

Answer:Error while Recovering Tecra A6 (Hard Disk not found. Error : F3E1000001)

Wait a moment: do you try to run recovery installation under running operating system?

The recovery procedure must be done on follow way:
Switch notebook ON and press F12 button
When the bootable devices are shown put the first recovery media into optical disc drive
Choose CD/DVD media in the list and press ENTER
Follow the menu on the screen.

When I try to boot my W520, I get a BIOS boot up error : "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". I am using PNY XLR8 240GB SSD. It worked fine for a month. I also have PGP installed and whole disc encrypted. I installed an update of Intel Management Engine Firmware and Intel Chipset, both are the latest from lenovo site because I was experiencing expreme slowness from my harddrive. Programs would freeze. Webpages would take forever to load..The next time I rebooted, I got the error. If I leave the SSD out for a bit, and put the SSD back in, the disk will work for some time... but on next reboot, it is again detection error.. TRIM is enabled on my system. I am not sure how the SSD died so quickly. I am back to using my HDD but I am not happy. I want a solution... is this a intel chipset issue? Intel IMEI issue? Is  the PNY SSD just a bad model? I've googled plenty and dont really see a solution. Sometimes there is a firmware update.. PNY has no firmware updates for my drive.. I don't see anybody else using PNY on their W520, but plenty of people are experiencing Error 2100 with SSD on their W520.. somethings fishy.. help please! thanks in advance !

Answer:W520: PNY XLR8 240GB SSD with error "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)"

I don't have a ThinkPad W520 or a PNY SSD, but could it be simply that the SSD is coming loose inside the ThinkPad's chassis?  I suppose this could occur if a 7mm high SSD was inserted into a 9.5mm high 2.5" drive bay with a ~2mm spacer to "pad" the unused vertical space.

I've had my T430 for about a year, and other than two Corsair RAM sticks failing my computer has been running smoothly. Last night, my computer suddenly froze up and now it won't recognize my SSD. I'm currently using my stock HDD, but now I can't access any of the data on my SSD. I've tried running the SSD firmware update from the Lenovo site, but it wouldn't show my SSD under the memory devices (I'm not sure if this particular SSD is supported by the firmware update either). I don't think lenovo customer support would help in this situation, since my stock HDD runs fine and I didn't buy the SSD from them, so any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem that I ran into for no reason.  Does anyone have a solution for this?  Luckily I was able to login to safemode once and did my data back up after I could not login to safe mode.  The moment I connect to net work this problem happens.  On a side note I bought this T430S on ebay 3 months back with 16GB Memory, 500GB SSD which was running pretty good.

Hi, I have a month old T440s. It has the original 256GB SSD drive (didn't open\replace anything). After uninstalling some antivirus software win8 had problems booting. To make a long story short, I tried different things to fix the MBR and eventually got to the point of trying to do a full factory restore, which didn't work (it couldn't find the recovery partition). When I boot up now, I get the "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)" error.Aside from trying to restore using Lenovo CD (shipped to me, will be here in a couple of days), what else cn be done and what caused this ordeal? I don't mind about the data on the SSD, I just really need my laptop functioning ASAP. Thanks for any advise you may have!

Hello! First post on this forum but been browsing for some time. My machine: ThinkPad S430, type-model: 3364-5HG, Win 7 x64, 500 GB HGST HDD. My problem is notably similiar to this one: problem occurs on very irregular basis, at times a couple of times a day but other times it goes weeks between the interrupts. It starts with some sort of short mechanical sound from the HDD, similar to the one when you turn the laptop of by pressing and holding the power button (only do this if I absolutely have to, it feels like choking someone with a pillow). After the sound, the screen freezes for a couple of seconds before the short bluescreen mentioned in the link occurs. The rest is as follows by the link above. Basically the only difference is the HDD brand (HGST in my S430 and Samsung in the link). After reboot (with power button during the automated reboot after bluescreen when the error code occurs), the laptop works fine.  It's getting quite annoying when this happens and also the suspension of not knowing when it will happen next is not good for my heart. What to do? Thanks in advance! Regards,Nicholas

I have an issue with a Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch Windows 8. It has a 512GB SSD. (Believe its Samsung)  Earlier today the computer frooze while saying plug in your charger, so I had to hold down the power button to do a forced shutdown. Upon turning it back on I got this error after hanging on the Lenovo logo for a good five minutes. Error: 2100: Detection error on SSD0 (M.2) The SSD is not visible anywhere not in BIOS or anywhere else. I've tried reseating it however it doesn't help. The BIOS is upto date, any I'm unable to update the SSD Firmware as I cannot get onto Windows as per the instrutions here - 1. I cant update firmware for the SSD as I cant get onto Windows2. The BIOS firmware is the latest 3. I've taken the SSD out and put it back in4. Reset BIOS settings5. Disconnected Battery and left it for an hour I'm panicing as all my data is on there, I assumed it was safe as it's SSD.  Please can anyone assist?

Answer:X1 Carbon - SSD Failure? Error 2100: Detection error on SSD0 (M.2)

Sorry for a 2500 GBP laptop I'd expect better really. This is the SECOND X1 Carbon I've had out of 4 to fail me with the SSD. I've lost all my data (Yes I know I should have backed it up) that I'll never be able to recover. Ultimately I've given up on the brand of Lenovo, my company who supplies exclusively Lenovo hardware to our customers are now switching to Dell as a direct result of the lack of support and poor hardware/firmware design. Just ordered 2X Dell XPS 13's as a replacement for my less than 6 month old Lenovo X1 Carbon, never thought it would come to this but the lack of support, knowledge and consitant hardware failures has left me no choice, I can't operate or do my work on an Lenovo X1 Carbon, fingers crossed the Dell will be better as it cant get any worse than Lenovo. To anyone who has Google'd the error and found this thread some cold facts; According to my resources this error can be caused if the system is not shutdown, BSOD or sudden power loss. If it doesn't resolve itself, there is a good chance it wont. Cycle the computer numrous times, let the battery run flat. Try it a few more times. Reset the BIOS, Update the BIOS. Prevention is better than cure, supposedly updating the SSD Firmware might have prevented this from happening in the first place.Lots of reports that this is an issue with BIOS and Firmware issues that result in an early death. I can confirm this having happened twice to me on different generation and model... Read more

When i startup my computer an error appears

(Name Of Box)MOM.EXE - .NET Framework Initialization Error
(Red circle with X) Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application.
[ OK ] Button

The picture on the task bar is the ATI logo and says ATI. I looked up MOM.exe and knew it has something to do with ATI, i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my ATI drivers, didnt fix the problem.

I was having a problem before where I had a similar error at startup. The name of the box was MOM.EXE, and it said it couldnt run the problem if i remember right.

Im both cases i can click the OK button and the error doesnt come up again until i restart my computer.

I am using Windows XP Home.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Answer:At Startup Error: Mom.exe - .net Framework Initialization Error

This error may be a result of the .NET Framework either not being installed or the installation is corrupt. Go Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and make sure the Show Updates box at the top is checked. Then search for an entry called:Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0If it is there remove it (don't worry if it is not there). Then go to this site and download a fresh copy of it. Install it, reboot and then see if your problem has been solved.

I got an error on hard disk...

A hard disk devided to two partitions: (C - for OS Win XP Pro) and (D - 2nd partition).
The problem is, when i start the pc (windows was running but immediately restarted automatically - repeated). I take out the hard disk and installed it as a slave drive to other pc for data recovery before repair/format the problem hard disk.

FYI, the 2nd partition can be accessed and read. But the 1st partition of the hard disk (for OS) appeared this error when i try to open it : "THE DISK STRUCTURE IS CORRUPTED AND UNREADABLE". Is anyone can help me to solve this problem?

I bought a Satellite Pro 2100 2 years ago with an internal 30 GB hard disk.

I would like to replace the hard diskwith a 60 GB model.

Is this possible and if so, which models can be used ( can I do it myself ) ?

Answer:Satellitre Pro 2100 Upgrade Hard disk

Hi Stefan

At the bottom side of your notebook there is the HDD cover and HDD exchange is not much complicated. I am pretty sure that 60 GB HDD can be built in.

In my opinion you should pick up some information about it. You can contact service partner in your country or it is also possible to find on the net some HDD supplier. They have precise information which HDD will fit a certain notebook model.

It is to delete a particular registry key that was corrupted by a MS update. Here is the fix that worked for me.Start > Run > regeditNavigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\RPC\INTERNET Export this key to back it up first, then delete the whole Internet key (and it's sub-keys). Reboot your systemTask Scheduler should now work.

I have IOmega 1 TB hard drive. 2 days ago, my comp restarted suddenly after which my external drive is corrupted.

I get the error 'H: is not accessble' The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.
It shows up in the disk management as RAW file system,

I have almost 700 GB of important documents, pictures & files that I don't want to lose.
Does anybody know of any good recovery software that can help.

Answer:Hard disk Error - The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.

Hi r4hara,

Welcome to SevenForums.

You seem to have lost the partition somehow and that seems to be the reason why it had turned RAW.

IMO, the best free software to do the recovery from a RAW disk is Test Disk. TestDisk - CGSecurity

It can be a little daunting for the first time user, and so take your time to read through all the documentation.

First use PhotoRec in it - which does not write anything to the drive in question - and try to recover the files.

Then you can use TestDisk and try to rewrite the partition. Some people have reported that even after restoring the partition with TestDisk, the drive remained RAW but they were able to recover most files using the option to copy.

Whether PhotoRec or TestDisk, it is going to take a lot of time to recover the files. Copy them to another external drive with adequate capacity.

You may find some help here to understand the usage.

Guide to using PhotoRec recovery software.

Good luck.

I am using XP and I get the following message on booting up :-

"....:qttask.exe - No Disk
There is no disk in the drive. please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk1\DR1 "

When I click Continue a number of times the message disappears and I can use the computer.

I don't know what the problem is and its effect. I would certainly like to cure the problem and would be grateful of any help.

Answer:Error message - Hard Disk qttask.exe No Disk

Best to stop it starting up with XP. Go Start>Run and type in msconfig. Click on the Startup tab and scroll down to the entry for qttask.exe and then untick it. Click Apply and OK and the system will restart. When it comes back, tick the "don't show this message again" box and hit OK. You won't be deleting QuickTime and can still start it when needed.

I was advised by a computer tech to buy a new hard drive because of issues I had with my HP pavillion s3330.
After installing I got a non-system disk error message.
After going into the BIOS to make sure it was booting my HP recovery cd from the the right drive, I ran a diagnostics test and after finding no problems an error message came up at the bottom saying - Testing: BOOT PATH, Error code: BIOHD-3.

I consulted HP who said I need to create a partition for the software to be installed to.
If that is the problem then can anybody assist me with this as I have no clue.

By the way, I'm using Vista home premium.

My Hp pavillion pc started crashing a lot recently and recovery didn't work so I told was advised to get a new hard disk which I did but now I keep getting the above error. I've been into the bios and all seems to be booting from the correct drive
The first time I tried the hp recovery disk it started to work but when it came to reinstalling the software it stayed on 0% for long so I switched off. Maybe that was a mistake. I've run a diagnostics test all passed the test but at the end it said testing: Boot path, error code BIOHD-3.

I tried putting the old drive back in and it was the same as before. But I was still able to go online, albeit until it crashed again.
HP want more money to help even though I brought the recovery discs they suggested.

I really hope someone can help, I've been told there needs be A partition before the software can be installed.

Sorry if the wording is a bit messed up, I am writting this from a mobile.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Non-system disk or disk error with new hard drive

Have you tried to run the recovery disks again? They should automatically put a partition on the hard drive.

If it still doesn't work then there's usually one of two different possibilities:
- bad recovery disks
- other bad hardware in the system

I'd suggest running these free bootable diagnostics first: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Then, if those tests pass, contact HP to return the defective recovery disks and get a new set.

Hello, my notebook has suddenly experienced a problem with it's hard drive, and I'm at a loss as to what to do.

It's a "Compaq Presario CQ56" running "Windows 7". As far as I know all drivers and system software is up-to-date.

Well I was running a couple programs and the notebook froze a few times, but only for a minute or so. Then it froze for about 5 minutes. Not completely, but I couldn't access the programs to close them, so I long-pushed the power button and turned it off. I immediately tried to turn it back on several times, and was met with a black screen. After running some system checks and looking at the BIOS and all that, I understood that the problem was with my hard drive.

The system tests were as follows:
Memory Test: PASSED
Battery Test: PASSED
Run-in Test: Stalled at 35%
Start-up Test: Stalled at 35%
Hard Disk Test: Stalled at 2%

So the computer recognizes that the hard disk is there, but still gives me the "Hard Disk Not Exist" error messages at several points. I have no idea how to proceed from this point. My main concern is the integrity of my files; pics, videos, music (especially music).

Does anyone have any idea what I can do? Thank you very much.

Answer:Primary Master hard Disk Error - No hard drive detected

First pull ac power and then press power on button a few times. Then replace ac plug and see if it boots correctly. If not then use bios to see if there is a hard drive. Some have a sort of autodetect selection. If still fails then get the hard drive diagnostic for that brand. Almost every hard drive company offers great software that can run usually from a cd or dvd drive. You boot to the cd.Then maybe I'd go in the computer (after you remove ac and press power button a few times and use esd strap) to re-seat hard drive cables. Look for any wear or damage on the cables. Test the power supply maybe too. A Pit Bull is like a gun you can pet. And there is no safety on it.

I was laying in bed and heard my computer restart for seemingly no reason. I get up to look at the screen and I get the error "3rd Slave Hard Disk Error" I try to continue but since Ubuntu is installed on the now faulty hard drive, it says error: no such device: - device name - Entering rescue mode - grub rescue>... which I've seen before, it's telling me that it can't find the Ubuntu installation. I have windows as my primary OS on the first hard drive (the one that's still detected) and manually choose windows before the computer starts. I went into BIOS to try and change the boot sequence, which has caused the grub rescue screen before, but the 2nd hard drive is no longer detected. How can I get passed the grub rescue screen? What could of possibly happened to my hard drive in such a seemingly random way? I have a 3rd unused hard drive, am I better off just installing windows on it and starting over? I don't want to lose everything on my 2nd hard drive though.

I tried starting it with the cords plugged into the primary hard drive into the 2nd faulty one, it's spinning but still not detecting it

OK, when I am overclocking my ram I am able to reach DDR3 2296 however when I go pass DDR3 2300+ I get the following error code 79 which is CSM initialization.

Question 1

Does anyone know what CSM initialization is?

Question 2

What bios setting do I need to do to push past this to keep overclocking?

Answer:CSM initialization Error with RAM

Here you go. Read the thread, both pages. ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- Qcode error 79 Initialization+

From the thread: CSM means Compatibility Support Mode. Q Code 79 could mean (just guessing) that you have connected some device, that UEFI cannot cope with. Besides, when having 4 Memory Modules you should allways set 2T instead of 1T in Memory section of UEFI !.

Answer:initialization error 101

One thing that will hamper restalling softwares is traces of an earlier installation still remaining and being loaded. The installer is most likely running into that problem where you will first clean all traces of it off the drive and any remaining registry values still trying to load things. With a new temp folder created for this and the custom install option if available you might avoid the manual steps needed to remove the previous.

I have a HP Ency Phoenix -810-160 that had a dead HD. I got a good deal on a SSD and thus replaced the drive. When I attempted to run the recovery disks, I ran into the issue that I kept getting a Hard Drisk Error blue screen at start up.  I found it odd so I took the drive and tested it on another computer. No issue. I've now been able to install windows 8.1 back on it and even upgraded it to Windows 10 before the deadline but I still get the blue sceen error.  All tests pass for both memory and the hard disk. System also runs fine with the exception that when I start up the computer there is a massive delay, then I get the Hard Disk Error, If I just F2 kit and then close and continue, the system finishes to start up.  I think I may be having a firmware issue but HP Assist is installed and all updates are suposed to be running.  Anyone outthere running into a similar issue? I feel like I'm having a false positive since I went up to a Solid State Drive.

Answer:Hard Disk Error but Hard Disk fine

How much capacity, in GB, does the SSD have? Less than 256GB is unlikely to work with the recovery media.

I've had this error for a long time on start up and often the laptop will crash. From reading other forums it is likely I need to replace my hard disk/ hard drive. I need guidance on the correct hard disk/drive to replace my existing one.  Thanks Cieran

Answer:Hard disk 1 (301) error, replacement hard disk.

Here's the Service manual: Manual Supports 6.35 cm (2.5 in) hard drives in 9.5 mm (.37 in) and 7.0 mm (.28 in) thicknesses (all hard drives use the same bracket) See p. 105 for "how to" but on this model it is a pretty involved job to open it up and replace the hard drive. Above is a good mechanical hard drive. You have several options which get faster as they get more expensive. You can get a hybrid (sshd) drive or a solid state drive. The performance increase from a solid state drive is something to behold.  We can also walk you through software reinstallation which is easy if you have HP restore disks and still pretty easy if you have Windows 10 on your laptop activated and licensed.  Post back with any more questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I'm trying to do the optimization option in speed disk(norton).

It's coming up with a disk error "device I/O error on drice c: use CHKDSK /R to fix any bad blocks that may exist on this drive"

I've done CHKDSK /R by typing it into the run command. And CHKDSK runs, but it comes up with nothing?

Any ideas??

After calls to support and getting nowhere, I remembered that this model had a supplemental cache on the Motherboard which is a small circuit board held on by two small screws. Basically this is a type of SSD disk drive. It is designed to speed up access but many hybrid disk drives now include the same type of function directily on the disk. I removed the small circuit board and the problem went away. It made no difference in performance.

Last week i installed windows XP Pro on my desktop. It has a 250GB hard drive which has 1 partition (C drive only), NTFS offcourse. I did not format it while installing windows as it has lots of stuff in it. There’s over 50GB free and i’ve been removing a lot of stuff from the hard drive to make up some space but in windows i get an error message that i don’t have enough disk space, the disk cleanup utility runs cant free up space and i can not install or copy anything in the hard drive. I’ve noticed that when i deleted some file holding (or not) the shift key the free size goes lower although the files are being deleted from the hard disk.

Anyone has a solution for that beside moving my data to somewhere else and formatting it?

I finally upgraded to XP from Win98.
Primary drive works fine, but can't find photos or music on secondary drive. When booting up I get a Log File Initialization Error form Norton Systemworks.
When I run Musicmatch, I get a message saying it is unable to find files.
Not sure what to make of it - computer recognizes the drive and shows better than half the drive is full. Any one have any ideas what XP did to my drive?

Answer:Log File Initialization Error

Did you have GoBack installed on the win98 system?

You may have to uninstall NSW . . which does more harm than good on a XP machine IMO

I am using Windows 7 build 7100 X64. I have a Microsoft VX3000 Webcam. I think when I first installed it, it was working. I have been beating my brains out searching on the web for solutions and seen some threads here, nothing has fixed the initilization error (that's why I get when I try and run the Lifecam software). I can't even get into configuration.

I listed my hardware profile upon signing up so you can see it, it's kind of oldish system, socket 939.

I know the webcam works, with the latest drivers, in Windows XP SP3 on another system.

I have changed USB ports. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I've tried manually loading the .inf file.

It shows, in Device Manager, that the driver is working ok, both for the cam and the sound of the mic. I have tried, as I said, loading the .inf files for both of those.

I am using Norton's Beta Internet Security. I have a Razer Lachesis Mouse with the latest drivers for it.

I really need this to work because my loved ones live in another country right now and I miss them seeing me and me seeing them.

How do I report this to MS?

Does anyone have some ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Answer:MS VX3000 Initialization error

You can try this method - you can install the vista driver (preferably as its the one thats will more than likely have the least issues) or if that doesnt work you can try the xp driver. To resolve the OS mismatch with these drivers, so they will install on W7 do the following thats if they wont install normally and you get an error :

To install a driver OR program in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/xp etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

Go here to dowload

If you have already tried the vista driver and are having the problems listed go straight to installing the xp driver.

Pentium 4; Win98se. Hard disk C-4 GB free space. Hard disk D-16 GB free space.
I observed that on my program "Accent Express" that all the menu had changed from English to symbols. Also at the same time on "Microsoft Reader" my books had changed from English to what appeared to be Hebrew ,but was meaningless.I checked the computer using "Trojan Remover" and found and removed two trojans.
This action restored "Microsoft Reader" to normal, but not "Accent Express".This program was not found in "Add/remove" so I deleted all the files manually including entries in the Register.
Using the official CD I attempted to reinstall "Accent Express" but I got the following message:-
" Setup initialization error. Insufficient memory or disk space."
Another peculiarity-looking in the Recycle Bin there is no trace of the "Accent Express" files I deleted.
Please help as I have documents that can only be opened with Accent Express

Yesterday I used my OS disk to repair my computer. I am running XP Media Center Edition. Today when I turned on my computer I got two error messages:

"The procedure entry point getrequestedruntimeinfo could not be located in the dynamic link library mscoree.dll."

"c:/windows/microsoft.Net/framework/v2.0.50727/mscorwks.dll could not be loaded"

I cannot reinstall my TurboTax either. Is this something I can correct myself or did I really screw things up and need to go to a pro now?

Windows ME
DirectX 9.0b
Athlon Thunderbird 1.4Ghz
Giga-byte GA-7DX MotherBoard
512MB PC2100 266DDR Memory
GEFORCE 128MB 440MX Graphics Card(new)

Sadly, at this time, I?m not able to run any 3D games with my new video card. Regardless of the 3D game I'll get a "Direct3D initialization error" or something similar. When I run DirectX Diagnostics and test Direct3D I get the following errors:

Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)

Some things to note:
-Have very latest DirectX (9.0b)(ran fine with my Old 32MB Radeon VE)
-COMPLETELY uninstalled previous Graphics Drivers including a registry cleaning
-Have very latest nVidia Geforce Driver 45.23
-Bought and returned a Geforce 4 Ti4200 128MB two weeks ago(thinking it was defective at the time). Used the same nVidia driver (45.23) and had the EXACT same problem I?m having now. Leads me to suspect it?s related to that driver.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance,

Answer:Direct3D initialization error? Can't run anything 3D

I want to begin by saying how stupid i am.
My computer was starting to get slow, and i did a power clean in it.
The thing is, i think i cleaned way too much.

Now some links are not working, for instance if i press properties in Computer, in start, it won't do anything. But if i search for system, it will open the same window.

Also, advanced system care is all crazy. The links there also won't work.
I have attached an image as an example. Aside from that, when i start it an error screen shows up, and asks if i want to continue, restart or abort.

I thought those were all DirectX problems, because i uninstalled it and i was going to install a new one. When i finished downloading the SDK, however, an error screen telling me to:
"Set the registry key HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETFramework/installroot to the .NET install location "

Also, if i press next, another error screen shows up saying errors were encountered during the installation of .NET Framework 2.0 . Error Code: S1023

First, i re-installed .NET Framework, nothing was fixed, and then i double checked the install root thingy, and everything was okay.
Also, i don't have any system restores or any kind of thing to recover from. Its really driving me crazy, i didn't even get to update the drivers.

Quote0x0000006F: SESSION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)The process creation failure indicated by this error message can only happen during the fairly brief time that the Windows Executive is being initialized, which is during phase 4 of Windows startup. When I reboot my system I get a pop-up error message from my Norton SystemWorks '03:

header of pop-up window is:
"Norton Protection: ATTENTION"

The text in the box is:
"Log File Initialization Error, Drive C:"

If I X out of the window, or click ok approx 3/8 of the time I get the BSOD with a stop message referring to a driver for my Gravis Controller.

I fail to see what the driver could have to do with a Log File error?

This has me very nervous as I don't really wanna lose my drive. What's more, it's a very annoying little glitch.

I've checked Symantec Consumer knowlegde base, and googled for fixes/info extensively.

Please, any help/info would be GREATLY appreciated.
