T450s Trackpoint/Trackpad problems

Question: T450s Trackpoint/Trackpad problems

I just got a T450s and have been having some issues with the synaptics drivers. First, the trackpad: when I scroll with two fingers, and I let go of one of the fingers, it keeps scrolling. Is there any way I can change this? Also, there's a gesture to go forwards and backwards, but it only works with three fingers and goes the opposite direction I'm used to. I tried installing older synaptics drivers, but they didn't seem very compatible with my trackpad; it only let me tap to click instead of actually clicking the trackpad down. These two things don't seem like bugs to me, but more of just lack of features that i'm wondering if there is a way to get them to work the way I'd like them to. The real problem I'm having is with the scorll button on the trackpoint. When I press it, the cursor changes to the scroll bar. When I start to scroll, though, it doesn't do it smoothly, whether I have it set to "standard" or "traditional". When it's doing that, the cursor flashes rapidly, too, as soon as I touch the trackpoint.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all - I have an X1 Carbon that is only a few weeks old and have had nothing but problems...please see the list below.  They all seem to be somehow interrelated but I simply can't find a solution.   When powering up, the computer freezes mid start up (at the windows icon screen) until various buttons on the keyboard are pushed.  I've waited in excess of 5 minutes to start up to test this out...it seems that 100% of the time the computer will not start on it's own by simply pressing the power button.Once the computer does get to the start screen, the mouse cursor slowly drifts on its own across the screen until several more buttons are pushed on the keyboard to stop it (hitting right click a few times usually works).  This occurs both using an external mouse at the office and the touchpad at home. While in the Google Chrome browser, the tabs close when clicking them instead of switching to that tab.  Restarting the computer resets this, but throughout the day it will keep occurring.  Hitting the middle click fixes this temporarily (but that leads to a different problem).  This occurs both using an external mouse at the office and the touchpad at home.  This also has about a 100% failure rate after the computer wakes up from a sleep mode as well as sporatically throughout the day.Due to problems with trackpoint, my default is to keep trackpoint disabled.  When trackpoint is enabled, the cursor sporadically will change to som... I own a late 2015 Thinkpad t450s. It was fine for a long time but since few months cursor is drifting most of the time and Trackpoint stops working for a few seconds to minutes on it's own. What I have done till now: * Backed up and re-installed older version of Windows. * Tested on safe mode * Cleaned Trackpoint from dusts etc. I also used mouse and not the trackpoint but it still does that. I cannot stand to this behaviour of  the cursor anymore. Any solutions/ideas?

Hello, So I was wondering if the trackpad's physical click action (i.e. clicking the trackpad down) needs to have phsycial contact. What I mean by that is it appears that I can't get the trackpad to physicaly click downwards and initiate an action unless it is sensing my finger. This is clearly apparent when I try to click at the bottom edge of the tracpad. Another, albeit unneccessary, reason being that if I'm wearing gloves and physically click downwards, no action happens. Is this normal? Thanks!

So a quick summary...  I recently had my T60 open to see if it had bluetooth..  (it doesn't and can't add, no connector)   Anyway, put it back together, and now neither my trackpad or trackpoint work.  They show up in bios, and unplugging them makes them disappear in bios, but the OS acts like they are completely gone.  Also verified with a linux boot disc, it is not a windows driver issue.  (yes also tried all function key combos...)  Any ideas?  It seems strange that both would go out at the same time, since they are different ribbon cables.  All other keyboard functions work fine.  Also tried running with the trackpad unplugged, no change in the trackpoint, still dead.

Hi, I'm new to ThinkPads. Just got my E531 last week so I'm not sure it it's normal for me to have to press pretty hard on the trackpad to get it to respond as a left/right click for the trackpoint.  When I'm using the trackpad by itself its very responsive and smooth. It's very sensitive to the touch. This is why it's odd to me that it's not as sensitive when using it in conjunction with the trackpoint. I have to press down on it almost to make it click. Not sure if this is by desing. I dont want to ruin it if it's not

Answer:E531 Trackpoint + Trackpad pressure

look at the settings under Mouse in control panel then go to the ultranav settings.  You can adjust the sensitivity there of how hard you press.

Hey! I really want to test out Windows 8 on my T430 so I made a search for Win8 drivers for drivers and found this page, http://support.lenovo.com/en_SE/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT072084. Firstly I noticed it said Windows 8 Beta drivers (I'll run Pro) but I thought they would work fine. Then I started to open the driver sections and found out T430 was missing in quite a few of them, especialy the "Mouse and Keyboard"-section didn't have any. Now to my actual question. Is there any drivers in development for me (Roadmap?) or do you recomend any other divers? If so, which?

I recommend waiting.  We are actively publishing Windows 8 drivers/software with a goal of having everything on the web by the end of this month.  Some kinks are still being worked out as we fix last-minute bugs.  So my advice is to just hang tight for a bit.

Hi all,I have a T510 (i5 M520 @2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Win7 Ultimate x64).I recently had to take off the keyboard and bezel etc. to do something, and when I put it back together, the TrackPoint was acting very erratic (as soon as I would touch it, the mouse would jump all over the place and click randomly). So, I took it apart again (multiple times) to verify that the cables from the keyboard and bezel were firmly seated, etc. Everything seems to be fine. Now, however, neither one works at all, and pressing Fn+F8 results in a message stating "UltraNav Driver is not installed." (and I'm fairly certain that it is). In the BIOS, in Config > Keyboard/Mouse, both TrackPoint and TrackPad are set to "Automatic".Any suggestions for getting the TrackPoint working again (and the TouchPad, though I barely use that)?Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Answer:TrackPoint and TrackPad seem to have stopped functioning

Just to make sure it's not a driver issue, can you reinstall the UltraNav driver from here:

And here are some TrackPoint, UltraNav troubleshooting tips if that soesn't work:

When moving the cursor with the trackpad, i've noticed that slow movement will usually result in a jump of cursor of a number of pixels (around 40pixels/8-10mm cursor movement)a search online is mostly useless apart from an arch linux forum where atleast 4 others are also reporting the same issue with jumping with slow finger movement. I've noticed this problem on both linux (Fedora22) and windows OS (win10, via inplace upgrade from lenovo win8.1 factory image), so it's not OS specific - definately a hardware/firmware issue. aside from a warranty claim (which i'm doubtful would actually fix the issue), what else could it be - anyone else experiencing the issue?

Hi Lenovo! I'm loving my thinkpad tablet! Only issue I have really had so far is that the trackpad and trackpoint stop working every once in a while... (as in once a month they will suddenly stop working). Then I install a driver, they start working again, only for the same problem to turn up after some more time has gone by. Last time this happened, installing the driver didn't help, nor did doing windows restore, which was very worrisome... I've had this laptop for less than a year so it is still under warranty, but I was wondering if there is a quick fix? Much appreciated!Ilana

Hello everyone!  Recently I found that the trackpad and trackpoint would suddenly lose response. The cursor is gone; pressing any button---nothing. But I could still use the touchscreen to navigate and the Windows 10 doesn't freeze.  It happens out of the blue. It has happened two times in 2 or 3 days. Those times I was using my computer broswing the web, unlike others having this issue from waking up. I updated the mouse driver but this issue is still not resolved.  Do anyone has similiar issue? I would really appreciate any help! Have a good day

Hello all, my X1 Carbon is acting up. Trackpoint and Trackpad are not working together after a week of use. However after reading some threads the only way I could get the Trackpoint to work was to disable the Trackpad via "Enter" when the computer boots up (Bios Menu). I've tried everything now, uninstalling drivers and installing new ones, rebooting laptop from factory. The only way for the laptop to have any control over the mouse cursor is through the Trackpoint by disabling the Trackpad which is annoying to just know that the pad doesn't work. Any solution? Help!

Answer:X1 Carbon Model 3444-2DU Trackpad and Trackpoint

if this is the case, then you should call up Lenovo and ask for repair or replacement. The Trackpad buttons must be acting up or there is a shortcircuit somewhere in the trackpad circuitry.

I have a brand new Trackpad W500 with Windows XP. When I boot the computer up, every second boot the trackpoint and trackpad are disabled.  One of the times it showed a message saying that the trackpad is disabled because another pointing device was found.  However there are no other devices connected to the laptop.  When I immediately shutdown and reboot the trackpoint and trackpad are re-enabled.  This occurs with 100% reproducability:Boot 1: Trackpoint and Trackpad are disabled.Boot 2: Trackpoint and Trackpad are enabled. On those occassions when the trackpoint and trackpad are disabled, the device manager shows no other pointing devices other than the Trackpoint and Trackpad.  The workaround is easy - every time I boot the computer I shutdown even before entering a password, then restart and work as normal.  But this is annoying at least, and doubles the start-up time of the computer (a concern since about 1/2 of my job consists of making presentations at customer sites, so getting going quickly is a must). So does anyone have an idea on how to either1) Fix the  system so it doesn't spuriously identify non-existent pointing devices. or2) Make it so the Trackpad and Trackpoint are not disabled when other pointing devices are detected (the BIOS doesn't seem to have this option - at least not that I could find).

Hi,For several months now, I have been having problems with the trackpad. It would start behaving erratically, usually after 15 or more minutes, and eventually right from startup or wakeup. Things would usually be better for a bit after a restart, but not for long. I just turned off the trackpad and switched to the trackpoint. It too starts to fail after a while, though I can often get it to work again by opening the laptop up to 180 degrees. This doesn't last, so now I am always carrying a usb mouse around. Ocassionally, on wakeup the keyboard does not work, but it often starts working after a few minutes.During this same period, I have had crashes - i.e. blue screens. This has only happened a couple of times when I am actually using the laptop, rather, it almost always happens when the computer is going to sleep or going into hibernation, or so I think. I have also noticed that the laptop sometimes has trouble going to sleep or into hibernation, or starting up again after a crash. Again, opening up the laptop often seems to help. Here is the latest crash report, the first two codes are always the same:Problem Event Name: BlueScreenOS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48Locale ID: 1033Additional information about the problem:BCCode: 9fBCP1: 0000000000000003BCP2: FFFFFA800708C060BCP3: FFFFF800020883D8BCP4: FFFFFA80074BA9F0OS Version: 6_1_7601Service Pack: 1_0Product: 256_1I also ran a crash dump analyzer on several of the dump files and it pointed to ntos kernel (or whatever - I do... I bought a Yoga 460 from the Lenovo Outlet (refurbished) and it is completely wrong on specs (wrong graphics, wrong HD, wrong display, etc.). However, moving beyond that for a moment, I am having two issues related to trackpads/trackpoints. I am on Windows 10 and haven't even installed anything. (1) The cursor is arbitrarily moving around the screen. When I turn off the Trackpoint, the cursor no longer moves erratically. (2) Once I turn off Trackpoint, the Trackpad is still super laggy. Moving the cursor across the screen is choppy and slow. The touchscreen, meanwhile, is lightning quick and fine. I updated my drivers and hardware checks out in Lenovo Solutions Center. I am terribly disappointed in the product I have received so far and hope that once I return the product and receive the product I actually ordered.

Hi,My trackpad and trackpoint have stopped working on my T440 running Windows 8.1.When running Lenovo Solution center it says that a PS/2-compatiable mouse is inactivated and I can't see any of the pointing devices in the device manager. When I try to install the appointed UltraNav driver I sometimes get an error which says the installation was unsuccessful. Sometimes the installation is successful but when I reboot the computer the devices still doesn't work and when I try to configure them through the control panel I get an error which says that the driver doesn't work. I have also checked so that both devices are enabled in BIOS. Thanks Jakob

I've been using this L412, #4403,  for a few years, and quite satisfied with it.Sorry for the long post, I believe the chain of events are relevant to the issue. A few days ago the fan died. I cleaned the laptop less than half a year ago so probably not dust issue. I dual-boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint Qiana and it wouldn't work on either of them, so probably not OS issue. BIOS doesn't have any fan info.Replaced it with a new fan, correct model, everything according to the manual and proper CPU fan replacement practices. After assembly everything was working as usual. Next day everything was working as usual. On its second day the fan didn't turn on when I turned the laptop on. At the same time, trackpad and trackpoint stopped working, volume control doesn't work, and the special Fn keys don't work. The F1-F12 keys work. Insert, Delete, Home, End keys work. The Fn+Insert does a Screenshot as it should, but none of the other Fn special keys work. All that happened at once, from the moment I booted up the laptop. I checked the two OSs again. None of the above work on either of them. Doesn't work during boot-up sequence.Found a way on Linux Mint to turn on the fan to full-power, but it's like that only after the OS reaches the desktop. Auto mode makes it turn 0 RPM, full-power makes it turn at about 435 RPM (very stable). I assume it's not an OS issue because it stopped on both of them at the same time, and it doesn't work during boot-up sequence even though...  Hi, I have a ThinkPad Yoga 12 2nd gen with these specs: -Processor: Intel core i5-5300U-Ram: 8GB-Hard Drive: Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD (installed by myself) and SanDisk 16GB PCIe M.2-Screen: Full HD 10 point multi-touch with Wacom digitizer-BIOS: JEET78WW (1.27) The trackpad and trackpoint on this laptop has stopped working the second time and with that, the CPU fan has halted as well, with the backlit function of the keyboard non-working as well. The fan is really important because my heavy-duty use of this machine makes it really hot real quick. My laptop is pretty much useless without it and want a solution for it. I did try to update my BIOS for this because on some forums, this was an issue fixed by updating their BIOS. The system does not recognize the Synaptics trackpad and trackpoint (yes the TRACKPOINT is not working as well) and I have tried downloading the drivers of the trackpad, but to no luck the system did not recognize the trackpad. It seems as if there is a faulty connection physically, but I could not figure it out. The first time it happened, I sent it back for an in Depot Service, but this time around, I am out of warranty and when I asked a ThinkPad Certified Technician, he recommended me to simply buy a new machine rather than getting it serviced because it would cost me more than half as much of the original price of my laptop. I really like this laptop and don't want to change it, but if I have to, the 8th generation Intel pro... Today I received the X100e in the mail. Initially, I couldn't be happier with it. After just 30 minutes, though, I noticed that both the Trackpoint and the Trackpad had stopped working. I tried Fn+F8, but it gives me an error message saying that the UltraNav driver is not installed, even though it is. I've tried everything up to this point: reinstalling the drivers, rolling back to older drivers, and even doing a factory restore, but I've had no such luck. The Device Manager indicates that the UltraNav is connected and working properly, even though I'm getting no response from the Trackpoint, Trackpad, or any of the buttons. I have no options for them in the Mouse Settings or in the BIOS. I'm just assuming that they went dead, but I want a second opinion before I try to send this thing back. Any suggestions?

Answer:New X100e Trackpoint and Trackpad stopped working completely

Anyone? Please, guys. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The touchpad/Trackpoint worked literally for only 30 minutes before they stopped responding completely. No spills, no drops, they just quit working. It seems ridiculous that they would just go dead so quickly. I guess it's also worth noting that any USB mouse that I plug in works just fine.

Long story short, someone spilled liquid on my keyboard. I took it apart, removed the keyboard, soaked it in a water (with a tiny bit of hand soap) solution to clean it. Let it dry for 5 days. Reinstalled the keyboard and neither the keyboard or trackpoint work at all. The funny thing is the trackpad below the keyboard doesn't work either, yet I never removed it because it is a seperate entity and is not even connected to the keyboard so I have no idea why that would not work either. I have looked all around the motherboard for any signs of the liquid on it and its clean as a whistle so I am confused why at the very least the trackpad does not work. A usb keybard and mouse work fine, and when I am in windows and I removed the HID compliant keyboard and re-scan it finds the HID compliant keyboard again so it knows its there. What else can I try?

I have a user that has a 2nd Generation X1 Carbon (the type with virtual buttons on the Synaptics TrackPoint/TrackPad.   The user is complaining that a context sensitivie menu (of the type that a right click would initiate) intermittently is shown when she left clicks.  She normaly uses the TrackPad but does use the TrackPoint on ocassion.  Here's what I've done so far: 1) I initially thought it was the TrackPad and had Lenovo Support replace it.  The problem was reduced but is still occurs. 2) I've installed current UltraNav drivers and updated all other drivers to current levels.  The WIndows 10 is also updated to current patches.  I would try setting the UltraNave to "Click Anywhere" but that disables the TrackPoint feature that is ocassionally used.  Has anyone seen this happen before and know a fix for this?

After some recent UltraNav driver updates I have lost cursor and use of the trackpad and trackpoint. The yellow triangle shows up in device manager as the drivers cannot identify the hardware. I've tried uninstall/reinstall and rolling back to older drivers to no avail. This happened originally after an update on 1/26. I had to uninstall drivers, cleaned registrty keys, ran windows update, ran TVSU to reinstall drivers and that worked for a week. Then another update pushed on 2/9 knocked out the Trackpad again.  The device in enabled in both the control panel and BIOS. Disable/Reboot/Enable did not work. Rollback of drivers to 2 or 3 previous versions did not work. Thankfully I have the touch screen or my 15 month old T440 would be entirely useless. Anyone have similar issues and/or solution??

Like many people, my T440s trackpad and trackpoint stopped working for no apparent reason. There is no cursor at all on my system unless I plus in an external mouse. I've spent countless hours trying to fix this problem to no avail. Trackpoint and trackpad are enabled in bios, drivers are fine. I've been using an external mouse, which is annoying but workable at home. But now I'm about to go travelling and need the basic functionality of a built in pointing device.

Having just spent another hour perusing various threads here and elsewhere, it seems there is still no reliable fix for this issue years after originally reported to Lenovo. So, after a decade of using Thinkpads, I'm about to ditch them and buy a Mac. The decline in this brand's quality is shocking.

This post is my last-ditch attempt to find a solution. I'm not optimistic, but if anyone has any suggestions or ideas beyond the usual, please let me know. Thanks.

Guess I have my answer.... What a profound dissapointment that Lenovo cares so little about the quality of their products to not even bother addressing such a fundamental and seemingly quite common problem.

The Trackpad is unusable on my Thinkpad Yoga 260. When I try to use it it doesn't respond most of the time. Strangly though when I use the very tip of my finger it does work. To me that sounds like the palm rejection is too harsh. Also the scrolling gesture doesn't work if I place my fingers vertically. It does work if I place them horizontally). The Trackpad is from Elantech. I tried changing the driver settings, re-installing it and nothing helped. The problem with the Trackpoint is that when I try to scroll vertically using the middle button the scrolling symbol often first shows up horizontally and I need to press the trackpoint hard to get it to scroll. This all on Windows 10. I am thinking that this is all a driver issue because I tried out Ubuntu and there it works without problems also uninstalling the driver gets the Touchpad to work but the gestures don't work then. But if this is a driver issue shouldn't everyone have this problem?

Hi there, So the other night I (quite stupidly) spilt water on my trackpad. I put it straight in the airing cupboard to dry it out for 2 days, and everything works fine except for my trackpad and the left-click button of my trackpoint. Is there anything I can do about this? Is it possible to repair the trackpoint? (I don't use the trackpad)Will sending it back to Lenovo (UK) do anything?

Answer:Spilt water on T420 - Trackpad and Trackpoint L-Click not working

Remove your keyboard and palmrest and clean up everything you can find with Isopropyl alcohol paying close attention to connectors. It doesn't take much to cause an issue with the keyboard connector. If the keyboard is gunked up you can always buy another keyboard on eBay. Good luck

The new 2014 X1 Carbon got rid of the physical buttons for the trackpoint.   I am adjusting to that.  However, in more than one unit we are piloting we have an issue. A user that mainly uses the TrackPoint stick, will use their right thumb to left click constantly.  We are finding it to not be consistent.  And it often results in the user having to click twice on things. We have tried to adjust the "Edge Tap Filtering" - though I don't think that is related, as that is focused on taps, not clicks. Some people tried to turn off the "middle button" and focus there thumb more towards there.Overall, we believe the adapative keyboard, the physical keyboard changes and the trackpad button changes are all things people can evolve and get used to.   HOWEVER, if left-clicking is not accurate, it will drive people crazy and hurt our forecasted 500+ unit order. I am praying this can be resolved by a driver update.

Answer:X1 Carbon Gen2 - Using TrackPad for TrackPoint buttons - click issue (important)

Have a look in the T series forum.  There are hundreds of complaints about the new "clunkpad" with no physical buttons causing problems.  I fear this is a major design error by lenovo which will lose them tens of thousands of customers within months ...

I have a new X300 with a clean install of Windows XP (SP3) and all of the latest drivers from the Lenovo website.  Whenever I click any of the three TrackPoint buttons, the TrackPad is not able move the mouse cursor for about 2 seconds.  During this time, I can still move the cursor with the TrackPoint.  I did not experience this behavior with my previous laptop, which was a ThinkPad T42 running Windows XP (SP2).Thanks for any suggestions!

Could anybody running Windows XP on an X300 please at least confirm or deny that they see similar behavior? Thanks!

No idea what happened. I was using the laptop without issue and suddenly the trackpad and trackpoint (and left/right click buttons) all stopped working. Went and grabbed a wired mouse, that works fine, as does the keyboard. Any ideas? I have been through the control panel settings and absolutely nothing has changed. Tried turning it off and on again, and truning the settings for each option off and on and reset to default, and nothing. Please help! This sucker is way to new for this...

Hi, Problem occurs after waking from sleep or standby or hibernate, and alternatively  or right click on ultranav right button (it opens context menu). Then my left click is disabled. The cursor is either frozen or not. For the freeze there seems to be no rule, but the left click is always disabled. I have formatted the windows, installed new drivers and utility programs and also new bios. The same problem occurs every time.I have Windows 7 x64 I have seen many posts for issues with TP trackpoints and trackpads, but no resolution as of yet. If I am wrong, please point me in the right direction.

Does this happen with the TrackPoint keys or the touchpad keys or both? Does it happen with the UltraNav driver uninstalled?

Ok, upgrading firm laptops from Lenovo T420s running Win7 Pro to T450s.The T450s machines came with Win7 Pro, but we need to upgrade them to Win10 Pro.  The OS Product key is embedded in the BIOS on the T450s We've tried cloning the T420s drive to the T450s using multiple tools (EZGIG, Acronis, etc) and the drive clones successfully, but the OS will not activate on the T450s drive after the clone. Both old and new machines have SSD drives.Tried Win7 to Win7 clone, OS on T450s would not activateTried Win10 to Win10 clone, OS on T450s would not activate.  (Upgraded both machines to WIn10 and activated prior to cloning) What has Lenovo  and/or Miscroft done differently in the T450s that prevents me from cloning a user's old drive tothe new machine? What am I missing?  Have done this many times over the years and it's alwatys worked to perfection.

Answer:SSD cloned from T420s to T450s won't activate the embedded product key in T450s

Hello and welcome,

I wouldn't expect this to work although it seems that your experience has been different.

If the T450s was shipped with a Win 7 install not via downgrade rights there should be a key sticker somewhere.  If it was 7 via downgrade rights from 8.x Pro there's an 8 key in the BIOS and activation of 7 is going to be a pain.

Understanding downgrade rights

Try using the key from the 420s, letting it fail, and calling per the above strange instructions.

Not sure whether entering the old laptop's key will get you to the phone activation option on a clone as it would with a clean install.

Z.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

I recently got a Thinkpad T420.  One of my favorite features is the nub, but for the past few days the nub has been impossible to use.  It will click things randomly and rapidly and also freezes and shakes the mouse.  Once I deactivate trackpoint it works fine, but it's one of my favorite features. I just bought the computer two weeks ago so I can't imagine the keyboard breaking already. Is it a software problem or something?

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

The docking port connector on the laptop has become very flaky.  Often, if my desk is bumped, the connection to the external monitor and ethernet will drop and may or may not come back.  I have circumvented the monitor issue, but is there a way to re-enable the ethernet port on the laptop when it is docked? I would prefer to keep it docked for power and, ironically, stability.

Just upgraded from a T43P to a W500 and instantly I can notice how messed up the trackpoint mouse is.It just jumps randomly on its own!! Also...using the left click button does not actually click the link but thepointer actually jumps and settles down on a different part of the screen after clicking. Also every now and then, the trackpoint will stop moving the pointer(freeze) and it recovers after 4-5 seconds. This is really frustrating!! Anyone else seen this before?  DD

Answer:W500 trackpoint problems

Hello Desidon: I have always found the trackpoint device (the pointing stick) to be one of the most reliable things on ThinkPads.  I upgraded from a T42P to a W500, and did not notice any difference in trackpoint function - the stick on the W500 works as well as the stick on the T42P did. The operating system itself (Vista or XP) offers some 'options' that, if enabled, might be what is causing the unexpected behaviour you are experiencing.  If you go to the mouse control panel and have a look around in there, you will find that there is an option that causes the pointer to automatically jump to the default acceptance button in dialog boxes whenever dialog boxes appear.  I have turned that option off, I find that it is distracting. By default, both the touchpad and the trackpoint stick are enabled.  I have disabled the touchpad on my W500 because I find that I often inadvertently activated the touchpad when I am typing or otherwise operating the computer.  You can easily turn the touchpad off (while leaving the trackpoint on), the control for that is in the Mouse control panel under the "UltraNav" tab.  My guess is that if you turn off the above two options, 99% of your problems will disappear. There have been issues reported with the cursor on the screen occasionally freezing up.  That is being discussed in a different discussion (Temporary but DAILY mouse / system freezing (W500 w/ Vista Business 32), and we have no... I hope someone can help.  My Trackpoint has a mind of its own.  It just creeps up to the left and pins itself in the upper corner of the screen.  I have downloaded the latest drivers, this has no effect.  I am running XP S/3.  The battery problem is simply this, I don't know if the battery is 'shot' or the charger is not working.  Can anyone tell me how I can check either part before I have to buy something I don't need?I have been fooling around with this problem almost a month with no success.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:TrackPoint and Battery Problems

I had the exact same problem for months.  I finally gave up and uninstalled the trackpoint completely and started using the USB mouse that works with my tablet.  That part works great but if you can't use a mouse that plugs into the back of the computer or anything else like a keyboard that plugs into that spot.  Forgive me for not knowing the technical term for that spot. Just a note of caution - a month or two after I uninstalled the trackpoint, I started getting an error message 8611 (please see my post right below yours) and this may be related.  I'm waiting to find out. Good luck, I know it drove me completely crazy.  In the meantime, try using another mouse, preferable a USB mouse since that's the only one that seems to respond. debbie

I just got my new ThinkPad T440s, and I'm having some difficulties getting the Trackpoint to work properly. Whenever I power up the system, the Trackpoint is responsive for a minute or so and then completely stops working, while the touchpad works just fine. I have tried re-installing/ updating the Ultranav driver, but no luck. I have also tried a complete factory restore, and the problem remains.  I noticed that when I don't have the Ultranav driver installed, the trackpoint works a little while longer but then gets a bit crazy. By that I mean moving the cursor using either touchpad or trackpoint somehow ends up opening shortcuts, moving icons or the taskbar, etc. It's hard to explain, but it's like the cursor moves all over the screen rapidly "left-clicking" and "right-clicking" all over the place.  It's strange that when I'm going through the Windows installation prompts, the trackpoint seemed to work just fine. This and the fact that it works for a minute upon start-up make me think it's a software issue.  Does anyone have any suggestions that I could try? I haven't tried doing anything in the BIOS, if there's something that could be done. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:T440s Trackpoint problems

Hi zorero, You can check in the bios if the trackpoint is enabled but if it works sometimes it might be anyway. you should try to remove the keyboard, unplug the trackpad and replug it.It can be just just a connection problem where the plug is not properly attached to the motherboard. There is the link to the Hardware Maintenance Manual where you can find how to remove the keyboard: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t440s_hmm_en_sp40a25360_01.pdf Hope that helps, Vince.

I have an IBM T40 laptop. I have been having problems with the mouse properties. I opened up the advanced properties for the mouse and selected the UltraNav tab. I keep selecting the "Standard Scroll" option but it never stays. It keeps doing the smooth scrolling. For some reason, after my laptop has been on for a while, I can get the standard scroll option to stay. But then after a while longer it reverts back by itself. It usually happens when something disrupts my wireless internet connection. I have downloaded all the latest drivers that I could find from the IBM website. What is messing this up?

Hi, I'm setting up my new thinkpad t440s and I cannot get my trackpoint to work.  It does not respond and in my mouse properties/thinkpad section, the Touchpad is clearly enabled, but the Trackpoint options are all greyed out.  In the pointing options dropdown, I can only see the option to 'Use TouchPad only.'  I strongly prefer the Trackpoint to the Touchpad and would prefer it if possible. I currently have Synaptics pointing device driver version 18.0.7.109, the most recent version.  I've tried rolling back to previous versions and this issue still persists.  I also have gone into BIOS and disabled and re-enabled the Trackpoint in boot settings. Unfortunately, since this is a work machine, I do NOT have the capability to remove the keyboard or replace parts.  Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all,I just got my Thinkpad T420 two weeks ago. Solid laptop overall, but recently I have some problems with my touchpad and trackpoint. There is a big movemental gap of the cursor when using trackpoint, and the touchpad is unusable. This happened once last week but then it disappeared after I disabled and then re-enabled trackpoint/touchpad, changing sensivity... Yesterday it happened again and this time it wont disappear after applying the same method. I tried updating the drivers, as well as reset BIOS (boot to BIOS -> F9 -> save) but none helped. I'm dualbooting windows 7 & arch linux, and the problem is present on both of the operating systems. This is really frustrating. System update auto installed the latest AHCI driver for my T450s, after which device manager shows my 500GB Samsung 850 SSD to be a liteon SSD instead.  I found a note in the readme for the driver which states not to use it when you have a PCIE SSD, but it recognized my ADATA PCIE second SSD correctly, with the correct model number. I rolled the driver back and things returned to normal, but shouldn't System Update install the correct driver for my configuration without my having to read all the documentation first?  Does anyone know if this problem will persist in future updates?  Thanks for any assistance.

A few days ago WIn10 downloaded and installed a huge update. After that finished I checked ThinkPad System Update and downloaded and installed a number of updates. That's when the problems began. I've had the T450S and the Pro Dock (40A10090US) since March, replacing an aging W520 and dock. The Pro Doc worked fine except for an annoying issue. When the T450S was shut down in the dock there was a loud line buzz in the speakers connected to the dock. I gave up trying to fix that, I just shut the speakers off at the same time. However, after the updates mentioned above two new problems surfaced. When the T450S is in the dock with the lid closed and powered off, booting it from the dock button turns on the T450S (lights come on) but nothing happens (blank screen when opened and no keyboard response). I have to open the lid, use the power button to shut it down, and then boot it with the lid open. Then it boots fine. When it does boot up, it used to automatically go to the external monitor and leave the laptop screen off. Now it boots to both screens (Duplicate setting) and I have to use Win+P to force it to second screen only. This is in spite of the fact that Display Settings is set for second display only.In the ThinkPad updates installed about the same time were two dock firmware updates: ThinkPad Pro/Ultra Dock Synaptics Firnware 2.22.000ThinkPad Pro/Ultra Dock VIA Firmware 5041I've tried it with all USB connections to the dock unplugged, but no change. Hello again, After setting up my new machine and fighting for a little bit with the new Office 2016, I encountered a problem with very slow and actually fluctuant copy times.  During a backup process that I conduceted on my old Acer it was constant 32MB/s. When I used my USB 2.0 backup drive attached to that Acer machine before, no matter if uploading or downloading from the drive, it was 32MB/sWhen I copy that very same data to T450s the transfer ranges from 800kB/s to 21MB/s and sometimes it even freezes for a moment. Total copy time is more than tripled. When I tried to access my second drive during the copy proccess (transcdent MTS400) it became not accessible. This is extremly fearsome as unexpected dataloss can occur anytime. Any ideas? I got one driver not installed in my Device Manager, a PCI device of some sort. I can' get it installed. Maybe thats a problem? Maybe its chipset related or something?

Hi, I recently disassembled my Thinkpad W520 to clean out the fan and check a few things on the motherboard and when I put it back together both the trackpoint and touchpads have stopped working.  The trackpoint is attached to the motherboard at the same connector as the keyboard which works fine and I was very careful with static, dust, etc when I dissambled everything so I don't really see how anything could have gotten damaged.  First time I turned it back on the trackpoint worked fine but I had forgotten to plug the CMOS battery back in and when I went back and did that it stopped working.  Not sure about the touchpad, I dont use it much so didn't check it at first.  So far my attempts to uninstall/reinstall the drivers haven't helped.  The touchpad's no longer recognised in device manager but the mouse and keyboard are (and nothing's turned off in the BIOS either).  Is this just a sign of a bad motherboard or am I missing something easier to fix here?  Up until this point everything worked fine other than some USB issues which were do to a physical connetion problem.  It seems strange that the keyboard is ok but the mice dont work. Anyone have any  advice or suggestions?

Answer:trackpoint and touchpad problems - W520

Hello S_Zahara, Motherboards are the most sensitive and delicate part of the computer. It may be possible that when you removed the CMOS Battery, that may have changed some settings in the bios. Make sure the trackpad is enabled in your bios settings. Also, to make sure the CMOS battery is getting a full charge, leave your computer on for 24 hours. If the problem still persists, I would reseat the track pad to the motherboard. Hope that helps.

Hello. I am using a W520 i7 Win7 Pro 64 bit.Can someone tell me why the TrackPoint scroll function doesn't work in some windows/applications? For example I cannot scroll folders in Windows Explorer. I mean by holding the midle button and moving the track stick. Because by swiping two fingers on touchpad works great in same applications. Thank you.

Answer:W520 TrackPoint scroll problems

Are you on the latest UltraNav driver package? Middle-scrolling (Standard) works fine for me in Explorer.

I am having problems with Trackpoint and the TouchPad.  I had to disable Trackpoint because it was constantly clicking and opening anything it was pointed at.  The TouchPad pointer will not click and open anything, though, oddly enough, it will work if the computer is placed in standby mode for a lengthy period of time. I have reinstalled the original OS and other software several times now, including reinstalling the latest ultra nav driver and have all the other latest updates (BIOS 1.45).   I find it unlikely that this is a Hardware problem, but I have not been able to fix it with the software reinstalls.   Could it be the SSD? Is anyone familiar with these type of anomalies?   Any ideas for a fix? W510 4318CTOQ820 @1.73Ghzwin7 64bitfactory installed128gb SSD12gb ram

Computer: W540 Thinkpad I have searched around the forum and have not found anything about these issues I'm having. If they are there and I could not find them can you post a link to the solutions?  I am not sure if these issues are because of me upgrading to Windows 10, but it seems like that is when all of these issues started.  RESOLVED: After I posted this I took my keyboard off to see if everything was properly plugged in. I then noticed that the right ribbon cable was just sitting ther and wasn't plugged in. My blacklight works now, my trackpoint goes in thr right direction and I'm sure everything will be clickable now too. Hopefully everything is good now.  Problem 1: My Trackpoint is inverted, it drifts, and I can no longer use the "Scroll" Middle button on my trackpad. The trackpoint's Up and Down directions have been flipped ofr some reason. The left and right directions are fine however. Is there a reason this is? Because it is inverted I do not use it often, however it drifts a lot. So that makes it impossible for my trackpad to be used, because it think sI'm using my trackpoint. I tried disabling the track point in the settings but it sill works, and drifts. Also the middle button on the trackpad doesn't work, so I can't scroll using the trackpoint. I updated the UltraNav Driver to the newest one, multiple times, and nothing has changed. Is there an old driver that will fix my issues? Problem 2: I can not click on thin... Read more

I replaced the touchpad and I am trying to use now both my trackpoint and touchpad, but the latest sofware dowloads and driver downloads from Lenovo are not talking to the hardware. Key points: 1. I've got a Lenovo L430-2465 with 64 bit Windows 7 Pro, an i5-3360M 2.8GHz CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and an Intel HD-4000 graphics card.At seemingly random times, my trackpoint as well as the row of mouse buttons above the trackpad will stop working.  It only happens when I'm playing a game. So far, it has happened in Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, and Half Life 2. The game never lags before or after the trackpoint quits.  I can still navigate around using the trackpad.  I can put my computer to sleep and immediately log back in, and the trackpoint and buttons will work perfectly. I don't even have to close my game. I've checked the control panel, and when it stops working, the trackpoint is still enabled, so it isn't an issue there. I can't find any evidence of this happening to anyone else, but any help you can give me will be very welcome.

Sometimes, more often then helix is unplugged from power abapter, touhpad and trackpoint just stops warking at all. Keyboard working fine. Sometimes after about 30sseconds of tapping, mouse cursor moves a little, or touchpad "returns to live", but for about 3-5seconds, and then "dies" again. All drivers are updated from Lenovo site with their latest versions.OS doesnt matter, happends on windows 7 and windows 8 both.

Answer:Helix touchpad/trackpoint problems

Hi, mr_Jack

I would recommend uninstalling the current driver and see if it is the driver that is causing the issue. This can be accomplished by navigating to Control Panel ? Device Manager. While in Device Manager, open the tree labelled Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on the device and select Properties. Next, navigate to the Driver tab and click on Uninstall... at the bottom. This will uninstall the driver, which will allow Windows to install a generic driver. If the generic driver functions without issue, then I would recommend either trying to reinstall the UltraNav driver or giving the Synaptics base driver installed, which can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I recently got a T450s and I've been having issues docking/undocking the PC.  Generally, the issue is with undocking. I put it to sleep, wait for the "sleeping" red LED on the lid, then undock; upon opening the laptop a few minutes later (and pressing power), the PC is having a fresh boot.  Windows logs confirm this was an unexpected shutdown. In another instance - one off and potentially unrelated - the sleeping laptop was docked, and upon pressing power, I was greeted by a BIOS message asking me to check date/time.  I did - BIOS settings were wiped - date was 1/1/2001.  I noticed I had some static charge on me (not much though, summer time in Seattle) when I docked.  This particular issue has me wondering if also an ESD bug; I know certain T-series or W-series ThinkPads had issues 5-7 years ago docking station ESD issues. Regardless, this is big problem for me.  I can't reliably leave any documents open when undocking.  I updated to the latest BIOS and it still had the unexpected shutdown.  I am running W8.1. This is the log from the BIOS update:[2015/6/23 16:48:58]OS = Windows 8 64bitDriver Loading....DoneSystem BIOS Version -> JBET48WWApplying BIOS Version -> JBET49WWSystem EC Version -> JBHT13WWApplying EC Version -> JBHT13WWAC adapter/Battery check....OK. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am having persistent problems with the touchpad and trackpoint on my L530.  I prefer to use the trackpoint usually, and found that the touchpad was super-sensitive and caused the cursor to jump around during normal (touch) typing so I disabled the touchpad.  Next time the thinkpad resumed from sleep mode, the mouse was frozen.  Nothing would reactivate it.  I had to switch user, which temporarily fixed it, and then reactivate the touchpad.  If I try and change trackpad settings at any time other than directly after a reboot, the settings are greyed-out and I can't touch them. Right now, both trackpad and trackpoint are completely dead again, but I've plugged in a USB mouse and that seems to be working, so I've given up fiddling with it.  This will be a pain when I'm moving around with the laptop though! The OS is Windows 7.  Yesterday I went looking for the most recent driver, uninstalled the existing one (as per guidance) and installed the new driver.  No luck.   I've heard this is a common problem and apparently installing a generic driver works, but I'm not completely sure what to use.  Anyone know?  Oh, and I'm not sure if this is related, but quite often when I resume from sleep mode the keyboard is also dead.  However, if I switch user it comes back to life.  So annoying but not the end of the world.

Hi I have a non-touch screen Z500 i7. I just checked and it is running Windows 8. It is brand new. Out of the box the pointer freezes sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours of usage. A restart using the keyboard resolves it. I have followed the instructions in another thread here to update the touchpad drivers (they are the elan ones). I would welcome advice and a solution. Thanks.

In fact it transpires the update despite saying it has updated is not working (or perhaps it has and the driver has not been updated since 2012): Elan30/8/201211.4.8.1 Update driver is greyed out. I am running windows 8 64 bit.

I am experiencing an annoying problem - my trackpad stopped working. I have narrowed it down to a driver issue. Because if i uninstall the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav"-driver the trackpad starts working. As soon I install it again it stops. I have tried rebooting and it's no difference. When the driver is installed I cannot even the "Mouse" dialog in control panel.  I have tried the latest drivers: 18.0.7.40 as well as the previous driver. Same result. I have downloaded the drivers through the website as well as with Lenovo support app.  My model is the new X1 Carbon, model: 20A7005UM5 not even 2 weeks old. It worked until yesterday. The only thing done since is the regular update by Windows 8.1. I even tried a system restore before the updates but now there is no difference.  I want to point out that, when driver is uninstalled, the trackpad works, but without all the functionality. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Regards,Jan

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone here can help me with my ever annoying problem. I have a T450s running on Windows 10 64-Bit. Latest Intel Drivers. I have an 40A2 Lenovo Ultra Dock. The following configuration is coming out of the dock into the monitors. Channel 1 - DisplayPort (dock) to Mini-DVI (monitor 1)Channel 2 - using DVI (dock) to DisplayPort (monitor 2) Channel 2 is not outputting any video signal at all. Intel's software is not recognising another monitor at all. Their DisplayPort Topology is showing 1 DisplayPort (this could be because the other is not connected). I've tried both display ports and they both work on either channels. I will be bringing in a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable shortly to try, but shouldn't my DVI to DisplayPort. Something is amiss and it's driving me nuts. Thanks,Ron

Answer:T450S and Lenovo Ultra Dock 90W 40A2 - Problems with output of 2 displays

Hi Ron,

the first thing is, that the conversion from DVI to DisplayPort don't work. Only DisplayPort to DVI is possible.
Another point is, that you have to use the Ports for the two monitors like shown in the following guide:

My brand-new P50 laptop was behaving as though the left trackpad button was sticking. When single-tapping the left trackpad button, it would behave as though the "click n' drag" setting was enabled: the trackpad would override the keyboard, preventing me from typing until either the trackpad was moved again or the button was clicked again.  I work for Microsoft and have always used Lenovo products without ever having encountered an issue before, so I was more than a little surprised. I called Lenovo support, and they were less than helpful. In the end, they suggested that the trackpad itself was defective. The laptop was orvernighted to the repair depot in the southeast. Naturally, there was a three-week wait for parts - despite this being a model currently in production. Finally, after causing a stink (this is, after all, my primary work machine), a helpful support tech located parts at another facility. Another week later, and my laptop was back - with the SAME problem continuing to surface. This time I dug deeper, looking into the various trackpad settings, tweaking the various "accidental interrupt" delay settings, verifying that the "click to drag" feature was disabled, and running various diagnostics on the trackpad itself. The one interesting thing I noted was that the button-stickiness only seemed to happen in applications (IE, Word, etc.) - the button "stickiness" didn't happen when scrolling through Windows... As I had read prior to buying my new computer, the trackpad is indeed hyper sensitive and frustrating to type with. I immediately changed the settings to turn 'tap to click' off which helped a ton. For some reason today tap to click started working again, yet I haven't changed the settings and when I go to the trackpad setting 'tap to click' is still turned off. Any ideas? I can't type if this feature can't be disabled and what is the point of a computer I can't type on?!

On my WXP Laptop, which I use from time to time, the TrackPad and wireless Mouse have both stopped working. Fortunately I have a very basic wired mini Mouse which still works so I am not locked out and can still use the X.

Every time I start up I get a message about a new device being detected, which I take to be the Mouse (and Trackpad?) as there is no other device. I am asked if I want to install but then when I try I get a pop-up report to the effect that the file I am going to install is older than the one already on the PC and do I want to proceed?  I select 'No'.

I presume I have a problem with my my Mouse and Trackpad settings and / or with the drivers?

Answer:TrackPad and Mouse problems

Not exactly a problem. Some computers, particularly laptops, get all excited when you plug an external device in and ask about installing drivers and others don't bat an eyelid after the first time !  It's a minor nuisance but that's about all. As for the message about one driver being older than the one in use this is due to a newer one being installed at some point, perhaps along with a Windows update, and the older one not being deleted.  I think you will just have to live with it - as you say you don't use this laptop very often.

With regards to the wireless mouse - have you tried a new battery ?  That's the number one cause of them stopping to work. Of course, number two is that the mouse has just died !  They do.

I've read that this is an issue for some, but I haven't seen a fix yet searching the forums and other places. Basically, since the buttons are integrated into the trackpad, scrolling and clicking become the same thing which makes using it very, very difficult. I tend to use an external mouse, but there's times I use the trackpad so if I can't get this fixed I'm going to have to send it back as I had a recent 3 month debacle with Hewlett Packard and "repairing" a defective laptop. I'm not willing to take that chance again. It's an ELAN touchpad with fully updated drivers. I'm messing with the settings but nothing seems to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. Update: I uninstalled the ELAN drivers and downloaded the drivers from Lenovo directly, it seems to have stopped the annoying clicking while scrolling thing. I still wish the buttons were seperated but oh well. I should ask while I'm editing, is the track pad supposed to have a red light in the divider between left and right buttons? Mine doesn't.

Answer:New y510p trackpad problems

Yeah this problem seems intermittent, and since I just spent almost 1k on it I'm not accepting of any problem. I don't want to have to return it, so there has to be some sort of fix. Anyone?

I've tried reinstalling the driver, etc. No matter what I do, if vista reboots, it loses the mouse speed settings that I change in control panel. The registry settings are in HKCU\Control Panel\Mouse. When I change the settings in the control panel, the registry changes too, but it doesn't stick after a reboot. I'm pretty sure my registry isn't read-only.... That would eff me up way too much. Its just these dang mouse settings. Any ideas?

Hi, I have been having some problems for a long time now and it is just getting on my nerves. I have a thinkpad L530  (model 2481-2SG) and in summary, the problems are: 1) Trackpoint and touchpad software seems to fail permanently after waking up from hibernation/sleep (tick boxes on the mouse configuration menu are also greyed out) and so, trackpoint cursor sensitivity is lost. 2) Sometimes trackpoint and touchpad do not work at all and if i get unlucky, keyboard may not work either, so I have to hard-reset. 3) I have 7 unknown devices in my device manager window and I have tried looking for their drivers for months without no avail (lenovo.com, lenovo update, searching on forums...)A snapshot of my screen: http://oi43.tinypic.com/dxo2hg.jpg I have tried to solve my problems updating all my drivers (both through lenovo.com and lenovo update), resetting all the configurations, default bios... Besides this sleeping problem, computer works just fine, smoothly and fast. I am just afraid of sleeping/hibernating my computer cause keyboard and trackpoint may not work after waking up... and I hate to do a hard-reset. Also, I have windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, BIOS 2.52, 4G RAM Thank you in advance for your time, because I do not know what else to do and these problems are driving me crazy.

Hi everyone. It's been 10th day since I've started using this laptop and it is a 10th day of my nightmare. Speakers make constant white noise unless they are turned off or headphones are connected, CPU fan is very noisy and the touchpad is the worst I have ever used. Although I accepted the touchpad by simply disabling it, the CPU fan noise drives me crazy and makes this notebook unusable for me. The fan stays idle until the CPU reaches 55 ? - then the fan goes immediately to full speed and subsequently slows down to about 2000 rpm. Why it does so? Why is it idle instead of running silently at about 1500 rpm? If it has to be idle at low temperatures - why it doesn't go up slowly to 2000 rpm and stay a while at that speed after crossing the set point? It wouldn't produce that horrible noise. I found this problem discussed here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T530-Unbearable-fan-noise/ta-p/1159789 according to the solution I updated the bios and all - it hasn't helped!  There are some options to optimize fan speed using Power Manager but this software is not available for Windows 10. I have also tried tpfancontrol but it can't change the idle speed, and on speed level 1 the fan works at 2000~ rpm, which is a little bit too much.Do you have the same problems with your thinkpads? Have you found a solution? Lenovo seems to not care about the problems. Is it really that difficult to give users an option in BIOS t... Read more

I have searched around the internet and played with options on my computer but I have not solved my issues. There are also occasions where my computer shows me connected to the internet, but it will not load pages. I am also looking to set the windows key to open up "Pokki" (if that is possible/another application similar to it). I am new to the Lenovo community but I am loving my laptop (minus some parts mentioned above) and I appreciate all assistance!

I have just purchased the HP Spectre x360 13-4193dx. I have been looking forward to getting this laptop for a few weeks, but I am having a lot of annoyances with this laptop? The biggest mistake may have been purchasing this laptop ?HP authorized? refurbished. Upon arrival I updated all the drivers, ran HP assistant, and let windows update. I am looking for feedback and advice from fellow Spectre owners to see if I can get this laptop to a satisfactory condition. Here is a list of some of the problems I have encountered: This trackpad is almost unusable for me. Furthermore, the trackpad seems to completely ignore clicking frequently. I just got a X1 Carbon after the base on my Helix started having permanent errors. After spending half a day getting things set up on this machine, I'm finding myself with an EXTREMELY irritating problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I don't like "natural" scrolling so went through the trouble of finding and fixing the trackpad scrolling "feature."  I have now gotten it set up so that I can now scroll appropriately in the apps on the desktop in Windows, but in Windows Mail the scroll direction won't change no which direction things are scrolling on the desktop (it is always "natural").  Needless to say, with a crap-ton of work to do, this is the last thing I want to be dealing with.  Shouldn't it be possible to scroll in the same direction across all of Windows 8.1.  I'm guessing that this is a Synaptics issue, but frankly, I don't care.  We pay more money to Lenovo for these devices so that they work.  Help!! BTW: this wasn't a problem with the Helix, so it would be hard to blame this on Windows 8.1.
