t450s 2101 error (ssd) and 0xc0000225

Question: t450s 2101 error (ssd) and 0xc0000225

Hi all. I have a 1 month old t450s bought directly from lenovo. Standard HDD and ram, decided to go with the HD+ IPS monitor (very good) and opted out on the 16gb ssd. I've bought a crucial balistic 8gb stick and a Transcend MTS400 128gb ssd m.2. I've installed everything and it was all working well with the eventual 2101 error on boot after resuming from sleep. Since my OS is installed on the SSD I've disabled the sleep mode, because boot time is less than 5 seconds. Anyway, a week ago I've started experiencing random freezes doing regular tasks (browsing, documents...). Yesterday the computer was frozen, I've power cycled it and I was greeted with a 0xc0000225 blue screen (something on the lines of file system not found).I've tried everything, system repair, changing the UEFI settings, reseating the ssd, running the Lenovo bios diagnostics (all green). Nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks!

Preferred Solution: t450s 2101 error (ssd) and 0xc0000225

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Model: T450sEquiped as:Intel i54+4GB RAM256GB SSD (M.2) Configured as boot disk running Win 7 x64500GB HDD as additional storage Issue:Seemingly at random, approx once every one to two weeks while PC is on and at the desktop but not actively being used (meaning no user is sitting in front of it performing tasks) it will error and crash.  The error is a black screen with the following error: 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2) Press Esc to continue. According to the user Esc does nothing and the only escape is to long press the physical power button until a power down occurs.  On reboot the system comes up without issue.  No user has actually seen the crash take place.   MY QUESTION(S):1st.  Is this most likely an issue with the T450s not being able to reliably boot from the m.2 slot or is this more likely an issue with the SSD installed in the m.2 slot?2nd.  Is this something altogether different?  Any (knowledgeable) advice or info appreciated.

Answer:T450s Thinkpad - ERROR 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but my experience has been that the Gen4 and later CPUs (like yours) support a very low power state that is incompatible with some devices. (that would make it a problem with the card) Make sure you have the latest BIOS and power manager software installed. Look in the device manager and find the M.2 SSD. There should be a power management tab. Turn off the option to allow the system shut the device off to save energy.

running 1.40 biosthink I have WWAN model as there is a SIM slot and there are a red and blue wires ready for the 3G wireless card.all lenovo drivers etc checked to latest versionsInstalled 128GB Kingspan which failed to do anything and caused the whole system to be unbootable. Turns out the ssd was dead as it did not work in working usb enclosure.swapped in 64GB msata minipci from my old eee901 it is the correct size for the lenovo slot - it wasn't for the 901 and I am now getting 2101 Detection Error on hdd2 on boot up.I have tried reseating the card, cleaning the pins, reseating, booting to Hirens, Slacko, Gparted, Fedora and not been able to see it as the error code is pre OS... Anything I can do? - roll back drivers, roll back bios, buy specific brand msata any suggestions welcome :-)

Answer:Error 2101 Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata) X220

HiIt seems newer drive is needed or its firmware. Chek out SSD manufacturer site for fw update.Since x220 BIOS 1.16 or something like this one, msata SSD error detection has disappeared. Except of rare cases with some Crucial (or Corsair, didn't remember) and Samsung drives. Also do not use OCZ drives.

Yeah I am getting the exact same error 2101. Also X220 but 4286-CTO which I brought from US. The BIOS version is 1.17(highest I can find now).Wonder if it is a compatibillity problem or simply the bios is not programmed rightly.

Answer:E531 SSD error 2101

Hello, the problem was in faulty SSD drive. Seller told me that he probably got some bad series of this SSD because almost 60% of sold was not working, so I returned it and picked up Transcend MTS400 256GB which works like a charm.

I get the following message when I turn on the laptop: 2101: Detection error on SSD (M.2) The laptop (T560) is new and was only received on the 13 May 2016.  When it occurs I run thediagnostics and can usually get the machine to boot up. However, the error then reoccurs at a later stage, usually if the machine has been idle for a while.  I have lodged a service call with Lenovo but thought I would share my experience here and see if anyone else has the same issue?

Question: x260 Error 2101

I have a X260 with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD installed connected to the normal SATA cable. Recently, the system ran down in hibernate or sleep mode until the battery was completely drained. The next time I started it up, Iwas presented with an immediate error after the logo of "2101 Detection error on SSD(M.2)". Booting into BIOSor UEFI diagnostics doesn't show any options for diagnosing the SSD. What is odd is there is no M.2 SSD. ?Right nowI am traveling and don't have a SATA-USB cable or another drive to try, but is there any possibility this is something other than my SSD failing completely? System does not boot. Things I have tried already: Reseating the SATA cable, Resetting BIO S to default settings, "Power Cycling" the SSD. All checks in UEFI diagnostics pass.

Hi, I just received my T430 about 4 days ago and it's working perfectly until I was trying to install important windows updates. As I was rebooting my laptop after the installation (which fails everytime I don't know why), my computer gave me a loud beep and a error code of 2101 detection error. So I searched this forum and found this solution http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074404 from another post that had the same problem as mine.As i was following the steps,( i did cmd, uninstalled express cache, and did disk managment) but as i went on my disk management i could not find my mSATA. I have a 16 gb mSATA and it was working perfectly fine before. I've noticed on my reboot that it took longer to load and the error message would then come up.So my problem is that I cannot view my mSATA disk on my disk managementThankyou!

Answer:2101 Detection Error: Cannot view my mSATA

The Error 2101: Detection error on HDDx miniSata is a BIOS error. This has nothing to do with the operating system you have installed or any drivers. During the POST, the system does not see the miniSata drive. I (like some others) received my new T530 recently, setup it all up and then a few hours later received this error. The solution is simple. You must open up your ThinkPad. Remove the two keyboard screws and remove the keyboard and RE-SEAT the miniSata drive. There is 1 screw holding the board down. Remove it, re-insert it in. Screw everything back up and voila, no more issue. Go to the Lenovo / ThinkPad Guides and Manuals page for your device (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?) and download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad. There are clear instructions (for those less inclined) on how to remove the keyboard. You do NOT need to disconnect the ribbon cable. Simple / carefully slide the keyboard forward and the miniSata drive will be visible and accessible. You can also use the ExpressCache program to get stats on the miniSata drive and see how it is working. Open a Command Prompt (in Administrator Mode) and issue the command: eccmd -info   -   Display ExpressCache activity informatio eccmd -?   -  Will show you all options eccmd -format   - Will reformat and clear the cache drive. Hopefully, this will help out those out there with this issue. Hi, I just updated BIOS ver. from 1.30 to 1.37. Had no problem with it. The system restarted and got the message that " 2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini SATA)" This is a Crucial M4 256Gb SSD, which I'm using since 5 month. Changed it back to my old KINGSTON 64GB SSD , and it works. I've downloaded BIOS ver 1.3 , downgraded the system, but the problem still exists. It boots without any problem with the Kingston , but not with the Crucial. Currently I don't have another computer to test the Crucial SSD if it's broken, but I think it's rather BIOS related. Plese advise what to do now, because I had all my work on that SSD.  Regards,Gabor

So I've read through the history of the msata and the x220 (4286-CTO) and how the BIOS revisions were required during the middle of last year in order to get the Intel 310 and some others to work. Thinking that my little x220 with Bios revision 1.26 (i7, 8gb, 4286-CTO) would be fine, I purchased a Kingston SSDNow mS100 64GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive SMS100S2/64G and installed it yesterday. The instal went without a hitch, but when I restarted the machine, I received a 2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata) error.   I've seen that the 2101 error has been mentioned in relation to a couple of Sandisk msata drives on the forum, but those discussions didn't seem to go anywhere. I just got off my second call with Lenovo support (30 minutes today and 25 minutes last night), only to have them tell me that msata is not supported by my 4286-CTO.  That sounds incorrect, as others with the 4286-CTO seem to have luck with Intel and Renice. What am I doing wrong?  Is this something that another BIOS revision could cure?  At least on one of the sandisk discussions, the OP said that he/she had tested the drive in another computer without a problem, so I don't think it's a problem with the actual drives.   Somebody else mentioned that some drives are not compliant with the JEDEC standard, but that doesn't sound like an explanation to me either.  Thoughts?  Help! Best, sad x220

Answer:2101 Error: X220 with Kingston 64GB msata

I have the same issue with x220.  The mSATA I have is the Sandisk SDSA4DH-064G.  I can also add that the function of the mSATA is the same regardless of whether the mSATA is used in the mSATA slot or on an adapter card in the SATA hard drive bay (Error is 2100 rather than 2101, but the text is the same).  For this reason, I believe the Lenovo BIOS is unable to configure the mSATA drive appropriately.  I imagine that Lenovo could quickly resolve this with a new BIOS. I have tested this drive on a desktop consisting of a Asus P9X79 Deluxe + Intel 3960x running Windows 7, 64-bit.  Device is recognized by BIOS and WIndows Disk Manager.

Hi there, After about month of use I suddenly got an error: "2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata)". Simply while browsing the internet system hung up and after reboot the error appeared.I've read that people here had same error just after mounting their SSD's - mine worked fine for few weeks. The problem appeared short time after auto-updating BIOS but not just after flash. 2 or 3 restarts gone smoothly.Strange is that now my BIOS version is still 1.16 when on the web since last Wednesday hangs ver. 1.17 - the update went on Saturday.Any ideas how to avoid sending anything (Laptop and SSD) to RMA? I have already RMA ticket from OCZ but want to save some time and don't want to lose the data.Besides I'm not sure if it isn't issue of the new BIOS from Lenovo. Thanks in advance for any help.Gootchio

I've read a lot about the 2101 Detection Error of mSATA issue on x220 with mSATA other than intel 310 installed. Last year I purchased a W520 and an Intel 310 mSATA. They worked fine together untill yesterday. I have windows 7 enterprice 64bit installed on the mSATA and linux installed on an SSD. I have a 500GB HDD installed in the ultrabay, as a shared data volume shared by Windows and Linux. Everytime I try to boot windows, it fails. And during the next reboot, the "2101 Detection Error" shows up. To try to solve this problem I have the mSATA reseated and the 2101 error disappears, until I try to boot windows again. Everything works fine IF I ONLY BOOT LINUX. 2101 Detection Error shows up everytime I TRY TO BOOT WINDOWS UP. I've updated the UEFI BIOS to the latest version which is 1.36 but the problem is still there. I've used the lenovo diagnosis tool (bootable usb) to run a set of quick tests and no error detected (except for drive self test either not supported or not passed). Please find the configuration of my laptop below:======================================W520-4270CTOCPU:                                 I7 2720 QMMEMORY:                        16GB (4GB SAMSUNG X 4)VIDEO:                   ... I got this error out of the blue the other day on startup, and now I get it every time I restart.  I have tried a number of solutions that I found in these forums (which I'll outline below) but it seems like my system just can't find the drive anymore.  Here's what I've done: 1. ran the ExpressCache program via Command Prompt (eccmd.exe -info) and got this error:  "**ERROR** ECCmd Request device is not available"2. unistalled the ExpressCache software, shut down, pulled the battery opened up the memory module slot cover, removed the mSATA drive and then re mounted it.3.  reinstalled ExpressCache4.  I'm trying to reformat the drive, but I am receiving similar errors     a.  When I try to format the drive (eccmd.exe -format) I get the following error:  HFS Volume is not mounted  **ERROR**  ECCmd Requested device is not available     b.  When I try to create a partition (eccmd.exe -partition) I get the following error:  0x10df (4319).  I looked this up and maybe there are system files missing? I have also tried this but it then says "There is NO mSATA detected, please check mSATA attached" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073737 If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Answer:2101 detection on HDD2 (mini sata) error on my T430

Hello and welcome,

None of the symptoms you describe sound to me like software issues. There is something wrong with the mSATA SSD, or the controller that accesses it - or it needs to be re-inserted in its socket.

Is this machine under warranty?  I'd suggest calling support and running this by them.  They may suggest re-seating the device in its socket, or may offer replacement or some other option.  I don't speak for Lenovo, just offering my personal suggestion.

Hello and welcome,

No personal experience here, but I do see this note on the page you linked:

Note: Only works with systems with mSATA standard connector. NOT compatible with Mini PCIe slot for WWAN/wireless cards

The way I read the Hardware Maintenance Manual  that slot is WWAN only, not a WWAN/mSATA combo slot.  Could be wrong.

This is my first post here. I have a HP laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit preinstalled. Very long story short I tried to dual boot Windows with Fedora 15 and I definitely screwed up my partitioning. My first stop was LinuxQuestions.org which pointed me to Seven forums. I've been trying to get this fixed for about 2 weeks now. When I try to use the System Repair CD it doesn't show my Windows Os as being installed. When I just let the computer load from the hard disk itself I get the 0xc0000098 error.

On a whim I decided to put in an old System Rescue cd to see if I could see anything about the hard drive. Surprisingly it loaded and I was able to use GParted to look at the disk. The MBR is on sda1 which is unmounted. When I hard Fedora 15 installed I was able to mount the disk, but when I would restart the system it would unmount itself.

I tried to do a Clean OEM Reinstall through the use of a usb drive using the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool. The iso file and the tool were downloaded from the links provided in the tutorial on a computer running Windows 7 Starter SP1 32bit. For some reason the download wouldn't work even with the bootsec.exe file downloaded and put in the correct folder. I used the Pendrive Linux Universal USB Installer to install the Windows 7 iso. For some reason even though I set the hard drive to boot from USB it won't boot. Is there any way possible I would be able to get my hard drive working again? I don't care if I'm able ... Read more

Answer:0xc0000225 error due to dual boot that morphed into 0xc0000098 error

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals, update your BIOS if it has an available update. If not reset BIOS to defaults Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS.

While in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI mode to try install, IDE if that fails.

Set HD first to boot in BIOS setup.

Now trigger the USB flash installer by tapping the HP ESC or F9 one-time BIOS Boot Menu key at boot, select USB, Removable or HD to locate stick listing, boot stick. If you need to rescue any files proceed with Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console . If not At first boot screen press Shift + F10 to open a Command Line, run Diskpart Clean Command.

Now follow the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to get a perfect reinstall.

If problems persist post back the exact step where it fails and any verbatim error message.

Hello all,I have upgraded from windows 10 home to Windows 10 education using key from Microsoft imagine a few months ago. When I try to apply creator's update using Windows 10 upgrade assistant, I get the following error at the boot:

If I select F8 or Enter, nothing happens. Pressing esc takes me to Bios. And after restarting, it boots normally without applying creator's update.

In update history, it shows that following update is applied "Windows 10 Creators Update Privacy Settings for x64-based Systems (KB4013214)"

I have my laptop in UEFI, AHCI(changed from RAID at the time of dual boot with Ubuntu).

How can I solve this issue?

I would recommend you recreate your media using the Media Creator Tool with an 8GB USB key.

Before running "Setup" from the key please enter your BIOS and ensure secure boot is disable while you do the update.

Question: Error 0xc0000225

Husband just ordered parts to build a BRAND new computer...

When trying to load in Vista OEM from a blank computer, he gets this error:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
Status: 0xc0000225
Info: An unexpected error has occurred.

He cannot even get to step #2! We've already verified that the ACPI is enabled and even changed it to check. We've changed from the native IED, Raid, AHCI, Legacy IDE (OnChip SATA Type).

In the BIOS reading, it does recognize all the hardware.

Answer:Error 0xc0000225

Try removing all the hardware you can for the installation. One vid card. And try 512 MB of RAM, too. It's just possible one is bad.

If you can get installed with minimal hardware, then add one piece at a time.

Whenever I load up my computer it does an automatic repair scan then takes me to advanced options.
I tried to reset my computer but I cant it says " There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made"
Then I Disable the automatic repair using "bcdedit /set default recoveryenabled no"
Then i restart my computer, then it comes up with Error 0xc0000225. It was because the system registry files is missing or contains errors.
Can anyone help me with this please?

Answer:0xc0000225 error, help?

Dunno if it still works, but traditionally you should be able to use F8 at boot to get into a menu screen, where you should have the option to boot to 'Last Known Good Configuration' or else try Safe Mode and see if there is a previous restore point to recover from.
Google ' system restore windows 10'.

Hi there,

So recently I've been wanting to reboot my entire laptop and do a clean install of Windows 7 on it (it has been running Vista for quite a few years now).
I've burnt the Windows 7 ultimate 32bit iso onto my USB flash drive, and inserted it, then restarted my computer to get it to boot.
I tried 2 methods
1. "Manual" booting selection (hit f10 on the HP screen and select USB)
2. USB flash drive as the primary boot source.

Both of these unfortunately gave me the following message of - "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause".
File: /Boot/BCD
Status: 0xc0000225
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

Eventually I decided to just open the USB through "My Computer" and ran the setup, which all went fine and dandy and installed (except of course it wasn't a clean boot where I completely removed the contents on any partitions and then installed Win7).

So my question is, is there a way to do a proper 100% clean reboot of windows 7 without the error message popping up to block me, or at the least fix the error message?
I don't own the original OS disk for this laptop so I couldn't find any other solutions.

Thanks

Hi,

Do this:
1. Get a clean Windows 7 ISO here.
2. Now write it to the USB using this tool.
3. Boot from the USB and install as normal.

Hello.

I recently bought a Samsung Laptop with Windows 8 already installed. It's been fine for a few days but yesterday I was told that it is a good idea to partition my drives. So I did that. Then I realized I needed more space on my newly created drive. So, I downloaded EASEUS Partition Manager to add more space to my newly created drive. So, I made the changes and my computer needed to restart. Then, it showed that the EASEUS Partition Manager was doing its thing. So I left it to do it work. But when I came back to check on it, there was a BSoD. So then I restarted again and now apparently something screwed up and everytime I boot it shows an error 0xc0000225 and says I need to insert my installation CD into it and select repair disc. But I didn't receive the Windows 8 disc as it came pre-installed. I searched the internets and even asked my colleagues but I'm not getting any useful or helpful. Is there anyway out of this mess? Thanks.

Answer:Error 0xc0000225 always at Booting

Well, now's a bad time to remind you to make a copy of the recovery partition using the OEM utility. Right now there aren't any official (legal) download locations for Windows 8 ISOs outside of the Microsoft upgrade center (which isn't free), MSDN or TechNet (subscribers only, again not free), and volume license sites for corporate customers (again, not free). You might get some love from your OEM that sold you the PC, or if you have a friend or a colleague who has a DVD with Windows 8 on it you can borrow to repair your PC (just make sure it's the right edition).

And partitioning your drives on a laptop is actually not necessarily a good idea - not sure who would have told you that. Generally, with laptops you replace the DVD drive in the second bay with a second HDD if you need extra space. I understand the whole if the OS fails you don't lose your data, but since Vista the installation or repair process from the Windows installation DVD or USB simply overwrites files, and your data is kept intact. If the drive itself fails, all partitions are gone anyway. With a laptop, best to get a very large second laptop hard disk drive (as you aren't likely to use the DVD drive much, if at all), and keep good backups of it. That way if something dies, you have backups, and you haven't screwed up your installation of Windows to do so either.

That error is a bios error. he needs to download the newest revision and install it. If he cant get into a normal boot, he might be able to get in to a safe Boot (F8)

Well I had Ubuntu AND Windows 7 duel booted on my Amilo Li 2727, I tried to get rid of the Ubuntu because to be honest, it was taking up most of my Laptop's space. I used a program to do it and when i restarted my laptop no OS would boot. I plugged in my Windows 7 Installation USB and it wouldn't boot up the install thing.
I put in the Ubuntu USB and had an option to install it, so I thought 'hey, maybe if I delete everything of my hdd like i do when i install win7 i can reinstall win7.', so i delete everything of hdd using ubuntu installer and install ubuntu (ubuntu is telling me I have a 120gb hard drive now idk why, that's beside the problem), so ubuntu is installed on my pc. I restart and put in my Win7 installation usb again and it says the same error.
The error says:

For some odd reason when I turned on my computer today, I was greeted with the error 0xc0000225 stating that my NLS files were corrupt/missing. I am Running Vista x64 and so far have tried the following:

Replace NLS files
Windows repair utility
Restored an old working registry backup
Tried booting with different ram configurations
Created new BCD / Boot
Chkdsk
Google suggests something about apci, but my gigabyte ud3p doesn't have such an option (already vista compatible) and it seems to only occur to people who are initially installing and not people who already have a working copy.

I was given a laptop to take a look at with hopes I could fix it. However I'm running into issues, and for some reason I can't figure out next steps.
When the computer boots, it goes right to the screen saying 'PC needs to be repaired, with error code error
code 0xc0000225
however, when I push F8 the screen just flashes back, It won't boot to disk at all, and won't let me
do anything, just keeps popping that screen back up. So before I pull the HD to back up the stuff on it, I'd like to know if there is any possible way I can get in it to at least try to repair it. My initial plan was to rebuild the MBR, but I can't even get
past that screen.
In researching, and in past experience, Windows 8 and 8.1 are supposed to automatically go to start up
repair options. This is also not happening.
Help please...

Answer:error code 0xc0000225

Hi,
Please know that status: 0xc0000225 means Windows cannot find the System Files used for booting. The causes may be the following things.
1. The System files are corrupt.
2. The disk File system has bad configuration.
3. Hardware fault.
To boot into Windows Recovery environment, we need the recovery image or partition in your computer or the installation disk.

First, I suggest contacting manufacturer to do a hardware testing.
Also, Let?s try to boot into WinRE by using recovery disk or bootable USB, then try to repair the system if you have Windows 8.
How to Create Bootable Windows 8 USB Drive from ISO Image
http://www.guidingtech.com/10026/create-bootable-windows-8-usb-drive-iso-image/

If you have Windows 8.1 media, we can also try to reset your system by using this.

We need to boot into BIOS to change the boot order to start from other media except local HDD, then we can enter WinRE.

Hope these could be helpful.Kate Li

As per title, I enlarged my W7 partition.

I usually run Linux Mint, but I also need Windows for work, and a proper installation is obviously better than a slimmed down W7 in Virtual Box.
To be honest is not that I have stuff in there that I need saving, but I seriously dislike just delete the partition altogether and starting with a fresh install again.

I actually left behind W7 for a good year or two because it got increasingly slow, and no wonder, it didn’t have any room in its partition…

Yesterday i had a notification appear in the Action Centre saying
"Security and Maintenance Restart to Repair drive Errors".
So i restarted but all i kept getting was a Recovery screen saying 'Your Pc couldn't start properly a required device isn't connected or cant be accessed.
error code 0xc0000225

I restarted several times disconnecting all peripheralsbut the same message appeared until eventually i did manage to get back on.

Now this message has appeared once more in Action Centre and i dont really want to restart the PC in case the same thing happens again.

This happened out of nowhere with no new software or hardware installed and no changes to my Pc.What has occurred to me is i have no media with anything to repair Win 10 on as this was a Win 7 PC with the free Win10 clean install upgrade.

So i guess should really get some kind of back up media to repair/install if the worst happens and i cant get my PC to boot up at all.

What are my options?
Complete fresh install or repair etc

I have backed everything up so if a fresh install is needed i can do that but maybe a reset or repair?

Answer:Error 0xc0000225 but then booted eventually

Lots of options.

First if you download and install Macrium Reflect you can make an Image of your device. Free to home users and recommended on this forum. Then if you have a disaster you can recover quickly with a known working OS.

Windows 10 has a tool to create a Recovery Drive. Type recovery drive in the Cortana search bar and "Create Recovery Drive" should appear at top. Start it. If you don't have a USB key installed the process will start, and it could take a little time, but it will tell you what size key you need. Most need 8GB

You can also get ISO or create media, 4GB usb key required on Win 10 machine, for the most recent version here... https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/soft...load/windows10

The is also a very good tool at the top of the Software and Apps section of the forum.

I don't like error messages with references to drive errors. Have you run chkdsk /r c: from a elevated command prompt. You can also initiate through "Properties" of your c: drive. You said you disconnected all drives, I would reseat each cable end and remove and install drives in connectors. Your system likely supports hot swapping, I would power down. You didn't mention any Raids, I always get concerned unplugging them. Not sure what I did several years ago but had to rebuild my Raid.

First of all, hi everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster

I've come up against an issue that I can't solve and none of the other threads with this error code have helped me either. First some background.

I installed Windows 8 to give it a try but after few days decided that I really don't like it. Fired up Clonezilla and restored my Windows 7 Pro x64 image. I've done this before (as this is my 2nd time giving Win8 a chance) and the first time it worked flawlessly.

But this time, after rebooting, I get the 0000225 error. I've tried windows repair 3 times, I've tried bootsect, I've tried going into diskpart and making it active, nothing is working.

I do have the 100mb system partition and I've tried restoring just it and also deleting all partitions on my main drive and restoring again from clonezilla but still the same issue appears.

Here is the kicker though... the reason I am able to post this is because I was able to boot into my Windows 7 install by setting the Windows 7 DVD to be the first one to boot... and when it says "Press any key to boot from DVD" I just let it run out... then it boots just fine, though unauthorized.

Any assistance/tips you can give would be much appreciated. I'd really like to avoid starting over from scratch

Answer:Strange windows error 0xc0000225

Well for some reason my BIOS boot order was affected... changed my first drive to be the actual C:\ drive and everything is fine now... strange

Hello this is my first post so if I did something wrong please tell me so.
Attached is my computer specs, if the image does not work here is an imgur link to my specs:My specs - Imgur.
So, I was looking through my father's old video games. I found a Prince of Persia:The Two Thrones copy. I tried to install it, but it wanted me to restart to complete the installation. I complied and restarted my computer. However, it gave me a message saying "Your computer needs to be repaired, error code:0xc0000225". I tried many different things, but eventually at the error screen I hit f8, then f7(f7 apparantly disables driver somethings...) and I was able to startup. So, I am making this post on the same computer I have trouble with.

I do not have the windows8 backup CD, since this is an HP Laptop which did not come with a CD for windows 8, and instead had it pre-installed. So, is there any way to stop this error message from coming up ever again? I uninstalled that stupid Prince of Persia game since I thought it changed up drivers, but my main concern is not the game, but the error message. How can I get rid of this? If you all need any more information I am happy to provide it.

EDIT:Forgot to mention that all my programs are working nicely. It is just that stupid error message I want to get rid of, so if I need to do something with my computer I believe I will have full access to CMD and other programs. I just want to be able to boot up my laptop without having to hit F8 and... Read more

Hi everyone,
just read the post instructions up there, but I'm afraid I can't use the dump application because my sistem is giving BSOD on booting.

I got a dual boot with GRUB2, Arch Linux + Windows 7 Pro x64.

Always used it with no problems, and now the Windows loader can't work.

I only managed to read the status value, 0xC0000225, and something like "boot manager generic failure", "a required device is inaccessible".

I tried using the repair function from my full retail dvd, but it didn't work as well. I think it's because it acted on the windows partition, while the windows boot is stored in another partition of about 100mb, wich was created automatically during the dvd installation.

So I guess the solution would be giving to the repair function the right drivers to let it "see" the boot partition, but how?

Or, can I solve in some other way?

My system specs:

Windows 7 Pro x64
Full Retail
The machine is a laptop, 1.5 years old
OS installed a few months ago

Thanks in advance.

Answer:BSOD booting, error 0xC0000225

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I recently tried to start up my Dell Inspiron laptop and instead get this blue screen with:
Error code 0xc0000225
Blue Screen only gives me two options: Enter to try again or F8 for Startup Settings.
Elsewhere it says something about "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"
Trying again doesn't work as it still won't boot.  I tried to boot to Safe Mode, which also didn't work.  None of the Startup Settings seem to work.  I have a "Dell Operating System Windows 8 Recovery Media for Windows 8 Products 64-bit" recovery disk that was sent to me years ago for an unrelated problem.   I put it in the disk drive to see if I could boot from that but I don't even see the option and I can't see any way to get to a command prompt. Not sure if it would work for this problem.
I have no idea how to fix this.  I haven't installed any new hardware or software and I haven't been partitioning anything so I'm a bit puzzled as to what's going on.
After posting on the microsoft forums and attempting several fixes, nothing has changed.
I can't access the BIOS.  I have repeatedly tried pressing "F2" during startup (which, according to Dell is the correct key) and it does nothing.  It always comes back to blue screen.  So I can't even look at BIOS settings
I can't access built-in hard drive diagnostics.  I have pressed the correct keys (according to Dell) but it accomplishes nothing.... Read more

Hi everyone.
I have my laptop and I was repartitioning it one day. I was neary out of room on my C drive and I had 300gb on my D drive. So using a program called EASEUS partition manager (little did I know there was a built in partition manager into 7) I Shunk the D drive to about 10gb, leaving the C drive with over 600gb.
It said it was successful, and I went to restart and windows 7 wouldn't boot.
Upon startup, it says this:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software chane may be the cause. To fix this problem:
1. Instert your windows installation disk and restart your computer.
Blah blah blah.

Status: 0xc0000225
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

My laptop didn't come with one, I think it had one built into the computer as a single partition but we can't access that now. Pressing F8 and F9 do nothing when starting the computer before gettin the error.

Laptop Specs: (just in case, not sure why you'd need them.)

Asus K55V
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Intel core i7 2.3ghz
NVIDIA GeForce 610m

Note: I tried using a program called "A Bootable USB" to boot a downloaded 3gb windows 7 home premium 64bit file. I got stuck on the bit where it asks what partition to install on, because it says it can't install on a GTP or GPT partition, and all of my partitions are of this type.

Please help, I'm dying, it's reasonably urgent that the problem is fixed by Tuesday.

So I got my Rikomagic MK36 to connect up the the tv for the Mrs to use. Awesome little thing for the 5 minutes I had it working! It dual boots windows 8 and Android.
It was running WIndows 8 perfectly. So I had to go and install Windows 10 which doesn't run so well on it.
So using the recovery USB I made while doing the Windows 10 upgrade I tried to rollback to Win 8. After a couple of restarts I got to a screen saying:
Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. process1_initialization_failed.
It then restarts and goes to:
Your Pc couldn't start properly. A requried device isn't connected or couldn't be found Error code 0xc0000225 You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media.
I must have seen those blue screens about 1000 times in the last couple of days. I could still see it when I went to bed!
So I am stuck in a loop and can't even load Android on it.
So I've tried booting from a USB drive by changing the boot order. The USB drive show up in BIOS boot it will not boot from it at all. It just goes back to the blue screen loop.

I was playing a game when my computer locked up. I tried to ctrl-alt-del, etc... My last option was to hit my reset switch. When I start the computer it comes to a Windows Boot Manager screen. It says to insert windows 7 installation disc, restart. "Repair your computer". I tried this, it found a boot error. I then let it correct the error and restart. My pc went to the same screen. I tried to repair again, but no errors were found. I then tried to use repair tools from the install disc, but I don't have the right version or something. It's the same disc i used to install Windows 7...

My error in Windows Boot Manager is.

Status: 0xc0000225
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

Most searches say this happens when partitioning. I have not partitioned in months. I was gaming. They also say to reformat... I have a lot of very important information, personal and business, that I can't afford to lose. Is there any way to correct this problem other than reformatting? If there is, please let me know. I don't care how long it will take me to correct as long as I can fix this.

Thank you

Hi I recently bought a T570 with Win7 through downgrade rights from win10 as well. I also wanted to upgrade to Win10. I requested a USB drive for win10 upgrade. I also created a Win7 recovery drive as a backup. And I made sure that all applicable updates are installed prior to upgrade. When I proceed with the recovery process according to the instruction that came with the USB drive, the computer entirely failed to upgrade. I tried both the win10 recovery usb drive and my win7 recovery drive.  Neither would work.  The laptop would not start.  Customer support told me that they will ship me a new USB drive of win10.  But I am not sure that will work-- given i've tried both win7 and win10 usb drives already. Gooday all. I found an old ISO for a copy of win8 for trial/developers. Decided I would give a run on a second drive on my computer. After some stuffing around I got it installed and started poking around having a look at win 8. Then a pop up advised me that the trial period had finished and that my computer would restart after 2 hours and info would be lost. I wasn't overly concerned , I had had a look around so I re formatted the HD back to Ext3 and put another linux distro on it. When I went to sign back into my win7 instalation I found a light blue screen, not bsod, advising that my win7 was broken nand it gave the error code 0xc0000225. I googled that and found a number of entries but none like mine. I have been unable to resolve this so any help would be appreciated.
What I have tried.
1 Using Grub disc to fix MBR of win7 hd. Grub claimed to have succeeded but same issue when I went back.
2. I had created a system rescue disc in July this year. I ran that but it ran out of options.
3 I got my win7 disc and ran that got to page where it gives the repair options. I tried Fixing boot, restore point and what ever the 3rd option is there.
All of this to no avail.
I loaded a Knoppix live CD and was able to transfer all the important stuff to a separate 2TB hard drive.
My inclination at this stage is to just format the disc and do a clean install, however if someone can guide me in a better direction I am happy to be advised.

Hi,
I tried to resize the second partition on a friend's notebook from 252 GB to 75 GB – the partition where Windows 7 is installed (it's a Lenovo IdeaPad U550). I did this with KDE Partition Manager from a Linux Mint 9 KDE LiveUSB after I couldn't find the partitioning utility in Windows 7 in Control Panel, where I read it was supposed to be...

Something went terribly wrong, and now I can't boot into Windows 7 anymore. I'm not sure why though, because KDE Partition Manager didn't report any errors, I went through the log as I always do.

What I did was to shrink that partition from 252 GB to 75 GB, and accidentally, I also moved it to the left by 2,5MB (towards the first 200 MB partition, the boot partition.), which might have caused the problem, I don't know...

I'm posting here because I have almost no experience with Windows 7 (the last Windows I was using was XP) and the boot stuff is a lot different, so I don't want to screw things up (more than they already are).

This is the error I'm getting before Windows starts (more or less; I found this error googling and it seems to correspond to the one I'm getting in Czech):

Then I see the Lenovo BIOS screen with an unexpected message "Preparing Automatic Repair".. then "Diagnosing your PC", and lastly "Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC" and two buttons 'Shut down' and 'Advanced Options'. Why is it doing this.. it was working fine 30 seconds ago. I can't get it to boot and I can't reinstall because Lenovo didn't include a Windows 8 disc..

Thanks for reading my post. Here is the situation. I have an ASUS G75VX that came with 8 32bit. Windows upgraded to 8.1. I attempted to restore back to factory and was unsuccessful using windows recovery, F9, and other methods. At this point the BSOD will not allow me to access Windows. Fortunately I backed up my info. I would like to wipe the hard drive and have a fresh windows 8 installed on it. However, I only have access to BIOS and CMD. I have win 8 iso burned to DVD but gets stuck at 23% during installation. USB iso image will not work as well. I spent 6 hours last night reading through forums and trying to utilize diskpart to get the job done but was unsuccessful.

My command prompt is different now as well. Instead of the C:system32> (or something along those lines) it reads x:\Sources>. I go to diskpart and select disk 0. It has now only 3 volumes (vs the 7 volumes from last night):

Volume 0 H HRM_CSSA_X6 UDF DVD-ROM 3415 MB Healthy
Volume 1 T Windows RE NTFS Partion 800 MB Healthy (I believe I created this one from last night read in this forum)
Volume 2 RAW Partion 260 MB Healthy

I run list partition and get this output

Partition 1 Recovery 800MB 1024KB
Partition 2 System 260MB 801KB
I have no clue what to do at this point. Any guidance or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

Respectfully,

Answer:BSOD error 0xc0000225 Only have access to to BIOS and CMD

Try this. If fix one doesn't work, try fix 2 and if that doesn't work, try fix three.
Fix #1: Rebuild the BCD You can rebuild the BCD by following these steps to access the bootrec.exe tool:

Insert your install discClick on Repair your computer after you go through the language and time settingsSelect your Windows installation drive, which is usually C:\, and click NextChoose Command Prompt when the System Recovery Options box appearsWrite the following command and press Enter afterwards: bootrec /rebuildbcd
Fix #2: Manually configuring the active partition It’s very common to have this error displayed as a cause of having the wrong partition set as active.
Referring to the description of how the PC boots, the BIOS tries to start the boot loader up from the active partition and the bootloader searches for its configuration data from the active partition as well.
If the active partition is corrupted or incorrectly set, many errors including 0xc0000225 can happen.
Use diskpart from the command line to set the correct partition.

Execute the following commands to see a list of all partitions on your disk: diskpart
list partOnce you’ve determined which of the displayed partition needs to be active (not sure? Easy Recovery Essentials can automatically detect problems with your active partition and automatically reconfigure the correct partition for you, no command line needed), carry out the steps below to make the changes: select partition x
active

I've got the problem, due to trying to create an extra partition with Partition Wizard which got to the 1 black and white does screen stage (I guess 2 of stage 1?) and hung up there for hours on only creating a 10Gb partition on a 80Gb hard drive in a laptop...

I've tried the startup repair process and nothing, to no avail, Windows 7 System Recovery CD 32Bit, again nothing and even Super Grub Boot Disc 1 and 2 and nothing still...

I am limited to a 8Gb usb flash drive, since my laptop doesn't have a dvdrw rom and I don't have a usb dvd yet.

Or I'd try this (Manually editing and fixing the BCD in BCDEdit) http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...-1e185fb7544c/ if I could access, I might try loading a Live Version of 7 and seeing if I can access it that way...

I might try Hiren's once it finishes downloading see if I can get anywhere with it.

How bout EasyBCD and how would I go about it?

Any other options, help, suggestions or advice? Before taking the last resort and doing a upgrade repair.

Thanks!

"Tried startup and repair and nothing" provides nothing to work with. Was there an error message? What commands did you run and what did you see when you ran them?

I tried starting my computer today, but it kept coming up with a screen that said: Error 0xc0000225 Boot selection failed because the required device was inaccessable"

I tried googling it, but the problem seems to come frop people messing with partitions.
I haven't so much as looked at a partitioner siince I got the computer (Just the two standard partitions: the system one and the C: drive)

How can I fix this?
NOTE: I already tried the MBR- the bootrec.exe tool on the install disc executed properly, but still same problem

Answer:Windows boot hangs, error 0xc0000225

That would kind of rule out the need for the MS page on that. How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows

Have you tried running the automatic Startup repair tool a few times as well? If that fails to work you might have to plan on rebuilding the BCD as long as the Partition Table(PT)/Master File Table(MFT) is still intact.

Another thing would be not allowing people to play around with the drive partitioning there or simply be stuck each time. Besides assigning a password there are a tools available for locking up the desktop when away from the machine.

So basically I have two partitions: Vista C: and Win7 D:, boot file is on C:
I had installed Jolicloud OS on my computer and it carved out a drive from my Win7 partition. later on I EasyBCD to remove grub when I figured out that it will be a pita to get my wifi working. afterwards i booted from the jolicloud installer, then used Gparted to extend the Win7 partition back to it's original size. i then rebooted, and it ran the disk repair, but now Windows 7 won't boot, giving me:
0xc0000225
"Windows did not start correctly. A recent hardware or software change might
be the cause.

If you have aWindows installation disc, insert the disc and restart your
computer. Click system recovery options, and then choose a recovery tool.
(Startup Repair, available in some versions of Windows, can automaitcally
diagnose and fix startup problems.)

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer
manufacturer for assistance.
I've tried to use the recovery feature on my disk, but it cannot see my hard drive and it's not able to locate a driver.

help? Windows Vista is AGONY

That boot manager should also display the option to Rollback your installation.
If the previous installation is inaccessible, try booting from your Windows 7 installation and attempt a Custom (Clean Install). You previous installation will be moved to the root of the drive in a folder called Windows.old.

I have a retail 15.6" HD Notebook [15-ay117cl] (W10 from factory) Registered w/HP.The first thing I did when I got it on 11-12-2016 was to boot into diagnostics and run the quick tests. Everything passed, so it was a good start.I wanted to install Linux Mint Debian 2 and dual boot it along side of W10.The first issuse was UEFI settings. My linux USB was not seen, so I enabled Legacy boot and booted System Rescue 4.72 image from USB to change the partitions with gparted. I tried to shrink the Windows System partition down to 100 GiB to make space for Linux. I could not shrink it at all (never had this issue in 20 years). That really upset me. I'm wasn't really excited about learning W10 anyway (Too much of a support nightmare), so I deleted the W10 System partition. Then I decided to delete the RE Tools partition (probably a mistake). I did not delete the recovery partition yet. I was getting ready to convert the MBR to GPT, when I thought "What if I want to sell Notebook someday". So I went to the support site to find a procedure to recover W10. I also looked into getting the Recovery image. But not for $40, that's rediculous! So I want to try to restore W10 from the recovery partition. But I'm not sure it can be done without the RE Tools partition. In case there is any question about the error description, here's what the screen looked like:-------------------------------------------------------------------------RecoveryYour PC needs to be repairedA required device isn't conn... Hi. I'm requesting help for my Dad, please.

He was downloading Windows Updates for Windows 7 when he encountered a black screen (pic attached, my apologies for photo quality).

Status: 0xc0000225

Is there any chance he can he fix this? We both have limited computer knowledge.
He has no discs, other than possibly a couple of "Recovery Disks"???
He was unable to enter into Safe Mode.

Side Note:
He's able to access a rarely used, outdated, "Ubuntu" system on the same computer for internet access.

Thank you.

You can download a Windows 7 ISO. Right click the ISO, burn it to a DVD and use it to repair the missing boot files on his computer.

links are in this article

Just be sure you download the proper bit (32 or 64) and Home Premium or Pro.

Once he repairs Win 7, he won't have access to Ubuntu so he'll have to either reinstall a newer version or install the same version over the top of what he has now.

Ubuntu will control the boot menu.

Hi. I desperately need help recovering Windows 7. I am receiving the following error:

0xc0000225

I have an Asus Zenbook ultrabook without a optical drive. However, I have attempted to create a recovery USB stick a dozen or so times with both recovery and Win7 ISOs I downloaded. It loads but every single time I receive a message that it is 'not compatible' with my version of Windows. My windows license says I have 'Windows 7 Home Prem OA for Asus'. My only thought is that 'for Asus' is the problem here, but I really have no idea.

I can also load a copy of Ubuntu I have on another USB stick, but I am not educated enough to understand how I can fix this problem from within Linux either, without step by step instructions.

I'd really appreciate any help or advice. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Cannot boot or repair Windows 7 x64; error 0xc0000225

Use the latest official ISO for your same bit version and licensed OS from Step 5 in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot. You need to have SP1 installed, however, for it to be compatible.

With that error you need to first Mark Partition Active Win7 or it's 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred if you have it) then run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times.

If this fails work through the other steps from the top. Many of the boot disks required are on Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD) from a USB flash drive | USB Pen Drive Linux
