Question: Update: T430S microphone button nonfunctional; speaker and power-on status indicators don't light up

Hi guys, I'm having an issue with my keyboard status indicator lights - as in, they don't light up anymore - even though the buttons function properly except the mic mute one. Model: 23538NGSerial: R9WN959 OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional X64 Service Pack 1 (Build number 7601)Keyboard: LiteON (04X1307) - brand new but the issue was present before replacing it (and I had same one before)Driver version: 6.1.7601.1751406-21-2006 (Microsoft)BIOS: G7ETA0WW (2.60 ) - ReleaseDate 05-14-2014SMBIOS Version 2.7 Also, this wasn't happening when I bought the laptop, but I don't remember if it started after I downgraded to WIN7 or after, and I didn't find any info on this all day. Any input? Do let me know if you need any additional info. Thanks,Marius

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After muting sound with the speaker Mute button, it is not possible to un - mute the speaker sound with that button. The only way is to do it in software via the Open Volume Mixer. Note, I am using the Logitech Z305 USB sound bar, have [edit later] not tested that Logitech USB speaker is not the issue - same thing happens with on board speakers. Normally the button press is shadowed immediately by a change in the speakers Mute status - so at some random times that shadowing doesnt happen (back from mute to un mute )

When adjusting the volume using the dedicated volume buttons I notice it has some serious lag. Sometimes quite a while (a couple seconds at its worst). I see through the update manager that a hotkey features integration package is available for upgrade but looking at the details i see no indication of any fix. Is anyone else experiecning this with their t430s or any other thinkpad notebook for that matter? Thanks again Craig

Hi. Tonight I had a problem with my laptop. It was in sleeping mode, and when I open the lid there were no mouse function and no touch screen function. So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

I have a relatively new T430s running Windows 8 x64. Starting a few days ago, whenever I tell Windows to shutdown, it appears that Windows shuts down, but the laptop does not, and the power button light/battery charge light blink at a fast green.  I've left it that way overnight, and the light is still blinking and the power still hasn't shut down. From this state the only fix is to hold down the power button for 5 seconds to force a power down, then press the power button again to start it back up. Does anybody have any ideas about what might be causing this problem or how to fix it? Thanks! Charles

Hi Wacky78900,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Y500 Laptop is not turning ON after playing game and turning OFF manually, I suggest you to perform the Flee-Power and check the issue. Below are the steps to check and resolve the issue:

Remove the battery and any other peripheral device connected to the computer.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds and then connect only the AC Adapter and try to turn ON the computer.

If the issue persists even after performing the Flee-Power and as the computer is in warranty, I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance. Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

I'm wondering if the power light (the one on the power switch, not the green light in the back) is supposed to indicate the status of the computer. Other computer models, both desktop and laptop, usually have some indication of the state of the computer (eg sleep/standby) by either changing the color of the light, or make it flash intermittently, etc. This helps distinguish if the computer is on or on standby when the monitor goes into power saving mode.
However my XPS power light doesn't change, it's just that solid white color regardless of it's power status (except for being off, of course). I know that a solid orange light seems to indicate something wrong with the computer, but is there not any sort of visutal indicator that the computer is on standby/sleep?

Just since yesterday my six week old Inspiron 7559 sometimes fails to start and when it does this, the Power and Battery Status Light blinks, two times amber then seven times white, repeats forever.  What does this 2/7 blink mean?  Is it a clue to what is wrong?  The laptop does start sometimes if I hold it at an angle.  Makes me think something is not connected properly inside.  Any ideas?

Answer:Inspiron 7559 Power Status Light Blinks

Hi,
System LEDs are not Diagnostic Indicators. I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check for issue resolution.

Also, I would suggest you reseat a few components, like memory, hard drive and optical drive and see if that makes a difference. In the link below punch in the system service tag or express service code and you can access the user manual for removing and reseating components. http://dell.to/18r60nI Please let me know if this helps.

I have a brand new E220s, and I am not able to understand how to figure out if the battery is fully charged when the system is off (i.e. the laptop is not started but it is connected to power to be recharged). The user guide says that the light right next to the power inlet on the left side of the laptop will be on when the laptop is connected to power, and it will be green when the battery is charged. HOWEVER, on my laptop this light is green as soon as I plug the laptop into power. So, since it is always green, how am I supposed to figure out when the battery is fully charged? Or, is it possible that this light is always green when it is on (i.e. when the laptop is connected to power) which would be really stupid as my 2-year old vaio even show that the battery is fully charged by turning off the battery indicator light completely?G

Answer:E220s battery/power status indicator light indicating what?

I'm not sure what it's like for the E220s, but on the W520, the light turns off when the laptop finishes charging. The light should also blink at certain intervals when charging to indicate the amount of charge.

I have the following: Asus G74Sx ROG, 12Gb, I7Core, Nvidia3Gb GTX 560, Win8, 17"
I also have a problem with this awesome system and hope someone can help me out wiht it. The FN+F3 turn KB bklt on and off, while the FN+F4 dim or brighten key lighting. Both of these have stopped working for no apparent reason. When the sys is asleep and I press the SpaceBar to awaken it the KB is lit, but does not respond to brightness keystrokes at all, and it does not respond to the OnOff keystrokes either. I've checked everything I can think of but nothing seems to be wrong with the sys or the hardware. Lights work so it's not that the light LED is out, but I can't figure out why it won't work. It's driving me nuts! I am an author and the kb being backlit was a factor in choosing the machine, along with the gaming aspect of course, but I need the light since I write in total darkness - appreciate any help on this matter!
Thank you in advance.

Purchased yesterday new Lenovo G530 Laptop. Have setup per User Guide. Nowhere can I find in the User Guide or online anything explaining the System status indicators on the top left and right of the keyboard (3 on left and 4 on right.) Chapter 1, page 1 only indicates what they all are but not what each light means. Is there a more complete User Guide or can someone explain what they indicate? Thanks. Bob

Answer:System Status Indicators

I had the same question at first. By trial and error, I think these are the indicators for: On the left(1) power on/off(2) battery status(3) wirelss - on/off  On the Right(1) HDD dirve is active/inactive (OFF- as in going into hibernation)(2) CapsLk -  on/of(3) Numerical Pad  - NmLk(4)Scroll Lock -ScrLk By the way, look carefully - the "symbols" for two of the four lights (2)(3) on the right are also "printed" right on the respective keys! But not for ScrLk - perhaps not enough room on the key. This might be the reason why the technical writer thought there is no need to explain the lights.  (I had a Thinkpad T23 and the documentation was much better.)

Is there a way to disable the LED status indicators?  Personally I don't find they tell me anything especially useful most of the time.  I am aware my machine is connected wirelessly, can figure out pretty quick if I have Caps Lock or Num Lock, etc.  It is particularly irksome when I am watching a video streaming from my network to have a little green light going blinky-blink in the bottom left, and even worse at present as I am being forced for a short time to use a battery I am quite aware is broken to see the orange light blinking, sternly warning me about something that I already know about.  I suppose I could resort to using a small piece of black tape (and I will if need be) but that seems silly if there's a proper way to do it.    I am an experienced user and quite comfortable editing my registry or whatnot if required.  I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate if it matters (runs beautifully on this machine, too).   Thanks very much!

Answer:LED STATUS INDICATORS NOT WORKING (LENOVO Y50)

Welcome to the Forums Raven!

Sorry for delayed response.

These indicators should be hardwired to the motherboard, a connector cable could be loose or damaged. Or, if your machine(s) are still in warranty, send them for repair. As per my knowledge, LCD cable is the culprit. Hence please visit the Lenovo service for better hardware assistance.

you most likely would need to get a new inverter, you can get it either from IBM parts or places like ebay.

I first logged out of my computer and came back and I noticed an orange light on the power button. I shut it of and turn it back on about two times with the same results of an orange light. I then shut of the the extension that houses 10 plugs. When I turned on the extension I turned on the computer the power button didn't give off a blue light or orange light. The VGA cable, mouse, keyboard, Ethernet cable are all plugged in. I later removed all the connects to the computer gave it a minute and plugged it all back in. There is a solid green light on the back under the power cable. The fans turn on there is noise coming from inside the computer a soft humming and light fan from the back of the computer. But the power button will not turn on. The monitor light is orange and says "No Input signal Input 2,Go to Power Save." When I switch to input 1 it reads "Cable Disconnected Go to Power Save." What internal issue could this be?

I have an R61i (7650-9LU) 15.4" with no LCD or status indicators. Works fine with external display. Only things that work on the lid are the 'think light' and the green 'wireless' led. I assumed the inverter to be bad as there was no output voltage to the backlight. Replaced it, no dice. What now?

Answer:Lenovo R61i LCD Dark/no status indicators

Sorry. Inverter is the usual cause. Did you install it yourself from an eBay purchase? A lot of those sold are not new, and used ones look new.
Who disassembled your screen to do the work?
We assume you also checked the ribbon cable carefully for cracks and crimps... as that would be the next most likely cause. If you did it yourself, inspect the cables for both under a bright light designed for that work.
Check all those sockets carefully, as a couple of them come loose.
Luckily it is new enough to have parts available.
Lenovo service would replace the system board under warranty... How hold is your R61?

Question: power button light

Whenever I shut down my laptop, the power light doesnt go off everytime. It goes off 1 in 10 times. Rest of the time it remains on and if I dont notice that whole of the battery is consumed.I have to press power button to switch it off most of the times after giving shut down option

Answer:power button light

Dear Customer, Try the following. Open Settings and select System.  Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane. In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, download the IMEI driver directly from Intel on the following link, unzip the package and run the installer. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26127/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NU... When the installation has completed, restart the notebook. When the machine has reloaded, re-enable Fast Start-up and reboot the notebook once again - let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking.

Answer:TC-705 Power button light

If the power light isn't blinking, then it's not in sleep mode.  Your monitor might be in sleep mode, but your computer isn't. There's several things that can prevent your computer from sleeping at the designated time (with inactivity).  One of the most common culprits is Windows Media Player (multimedia).  You can check your advanced power settings to change "prevent idling to sleep".

1. Plug the computer into a power strip that has an on/off switch. Turn the power strip on. Press the computer power on button to start as normal, but after after one second turn off the power strip switch just long enough for the fans on the computer to slow down, but the amber computer led doesn't turn off and then turn the power strip switch back on. Computer should start and run fine. Computer typically can be shut down for up to 5 minutes and restarted normally--any longer and you have to sue the power strip power switch routine again.Click to expand...

Not sure if this is where I should put this or not, but I have a problem.

When I shut down the computer, the fan stays running and the light on
the power button remains lit with a yellow/amber color. What could be
causing this?

It just started happening yesterday. The only way to get the computer
back up is to unplug it and plug it back in. Pushing the power button
when it is like that does not work.

It is an e-machine, 2.7 GHz Intel Celeron, 80 GB with 1G Ram and I have

Answer:Power button light stays on??

How are you shutting down? Just hitting the button? Has the machine been configured to go into standby when that happens, instead of powering off? Does it work when you click Start --> Shut Down, and select Shutdown?

Here's how to check:

1. Right-click on the desktop
2. Select 'Properties'
3. On the 'Display Properties' dialog, select the 'Screen Saver' tab

Dell optiplex 755, mini tower . My son pressed power button and computer made an ear-piercing noise and would not boot up. The power light comes on, but no fan, no post, no beep codes. Monitor displays "no signal". Is this a bad power supply? Bad motherboard? Not sure where to start, need HELP!

do you mean a single beep, or multiple beeps? These codes will identify the issue.

Specifically with Dell desktops, you can refer to these beep codes:
1 beep: BIOS ROM corruption or failure
2 beeps: RAM not detected
3 beeps: Motherboard failure
4 beeps: RAM failure
5 beeps: CMOS Battery failure
6 beeps: GPU failure
7 beeps: Bad CPU

Additional Dell error information can be found here.

Hi,
Vostro 460 Mid Tower system, circa May 2012, Core i5-2400, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
I noticed that recently the light in the power button is completely out. No blue, no amber, no steady, no blinking light - nothing.
Other than that, the PC works just fine. Turns on, runs, everything else is fine.
It's just a little disconcerting, because when it goes into powersave, there's no visual indication that the computer is on.
Any thoughts about what this might be? Loose connection to the motherboard? Are power button LED's in the Vostro 460 known to burn out?
Thanks

Answer:Vostro 460 - No light in power button

Led is burn out. You can grab a similar LED bulb and replace the old one. This will be a simple soldering exercise.

Guys,
I'm having a problem with my Vista. Sometimes on startup certain icon refuse to show in the taskbar. Normally it is the battery icon that is the problem, but sometimes Network and Volume dissappear. I have tried reinstalling Vista from the factory disc, to no avail.

Hello Bodman, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Sometimes a simple restart may allow the notification system icon to work again. If not, then you might see if this may be able to help enable it again.

Hi, Summary: I need specs and location of backlight diode, advice regarding non-working status indicators execpt wifi status and advice regarding heatsink cleaning My four-year old Archlinux-enabled X201 (model 3249CTO) began shutting down due to CPU overheating recently. The last shutdown caused considerable damage -  the screen became very dim and all status indicators except wifi do not turn on.  I have read that the dim screen is probably due to a burnt backlight diode. I plan to fix that by finding the faulty diode and soldering a new one.  I would greatly appreciate pointers or pictures indciating the location of the backlight diode on the motherboard. Also, information regarding the power rating and other specs of diode will be great help. I do not know why the all status lights except one are out. I plan to buy a replacement LED board but am not sure whether it will solve my problem. What do you think? The laptop other wise works fine. I am able to use it with an external video monitor. I installed a fan control software utility called tp_fanco. No shutdowns since.  I want to clean the fan as well and imporve heat condutivity by applying new TIP paste. Any tips on that is also welcome. Thanks!

Answer:Fixing X201 dim screen, non-working status indicators after hot CPU shutdown

Welcome to the forum!

For the fan cleaning and thermal paste renewal you can follow up the instructions on the HMM: click me

You'll need to disassemble almost the whole laptop, but it's doable and the manual will help a lot. I'd recommend to buy Artic Silver 5 paste.

I can't help regarding your diode questions. I guess buying a new led board would be easier than soldering, but it's my uneducated guess.

Good luck!

I have a Belkin 4 point hub which is powered from the mains. into the hub is my speedtouch adsl modem, canonlide scanner and a belkin wireless mouse. into the usb sockets at back of computer I have an epson r200 printer and the usb hub. I have tried various permutations of wiring to no avail. Right the problem is that on startup I get one amber light indicator on the hub and to get all three appliances powered up I always have to disconnect the power supply lead to the hub itself. When this is done the green lights come on. Using winxp. this is now getting annoying. when I have to reboot for whatever reason, this problem does not arise.can anyone help???

Answer:no green light indicators on usb hub

sounds very similar to my post earlier with a similar prob and it was suggested that i try what you have to do (unfortunately prob has not reappeared so cant verify) but apparently if it works it is an indicator that the power supply itself is on the way out.johnny.

I bought this laptop few days ago and from the beginning i noticed that light around my power button is not working.

so now i'm in dillema to return it or not?

Everything else is working fine, but because of it's price i expected to work properly.

And what may be the reason for that?

Tnx

Answer:Satellite P50-B-103 - light around power button is not working

As far as I know the power button or to be more precise, the margin around the power button should be lit / illuminated.

In my opinion its not serious issue but if it?s a problem for you and you are not satisfied with that, I would recommend you to contact the dealer in order to replace the unit.

To be clear, my PC turns on and seems to run exactly as it should, so this is possibly more of a cosmetic/superficial issue. The little light located on the power button no longer lights up when the PC is powered on. Strangely, the light still blinks on and off as it should when the PC is in sleep mode, so the light still has some functionality. My PC is only a couple of months old, so I'm just a little concerned that this could be a sign of things to come. I hope that other components don't start failing on me.Does anyone here have any possible explanations? Thanks.

When closing the laptop, it goes into sleep/hibernate mode, but the power button keeps blinking. Many times I use the laptop at night right before sleeping but the blinking light is extremely bothersome in the otherwise dark room. Is there a way to disable this?

Answer:Disable blinking power button light

I don't think there is a way to turn off the blinking light. It happens on all Hp laptops when they go into sleep. (the power button keeps blinking but not on hibernation).

Hi there,My son's computer recently started having this problem in which, after 5 minutes of the computer running, and running fine at that, it suddenly closes down immediately, but yet, is not switched off: the power button which usually is a constant green starts to slowly flash yellow and the only way to stop this is to switch the computer off. Whenever he switches it back on it does the same thing, works fine for 5 minutes and then switches to nothing but the flashing yellow light, we have even tried it in safe mode and the same thing happens.Just to give some info which might help you, the computer is a Dell Dimension 5000 running windows xp home edition. The last time before the problem started, the computer had been left on for around 20 hours, and this has been happening for around 12 hours now. He did replace his graphics card recently, but that was 3 months ago and he hasn't noticed anything wrong with it in that timeIs this easily fixable or will a professional have to be brought in, and if so would it just be worth backing up the necessary dataand buying a laptop to replace it, as he is off to university in a couple of years so will need a new computer soon anyway.Well thank you in advance, just ask if you need anymore information about the computer, i'll do my best. Thanks!

Answer:power button light not work anymore

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

The power button light is incorporated right into the motherboard circuitry and it is not something the owner can repair. Chances are the Lenovo Service Center will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix the problem.

As for Lenovo Support fixing the problem under warranty, that question would be best asked of the service center in your country as I can not answer that.  You can find the phone number for Lenovo Support in your country or area by using the link below....http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist_alt1

Can someone tell me for sure that the LED on the power button is supposed to light up?  I swear mine worked.  I sent it to Dell to have the hinge problem fixed, which I see a lot of you had issues with.  Well, when I got it back the light no longer comes on.  Dell is trying to say it never came on.  That this model doesn't have a light.  I said, why does it have the rectangle clear lens for a light?  They just keep saying it doesn't have one.  They said they would send a copy of specs that show this.  Never did.  I have several people that agree with me.  But, looking for more support to confront Dell.

My roommate tried to "fix" his PC but god knows he doesn't know crap. The PC acts like it is going to turn on, but the light on the front of the tower does not light up, nor does the display. The light on the motherboard is solid green, and he is still able to charge a phone through the PC, so I'm guessing the power supply is good if it can do all of this. At this point I am at a loss because I'm normally very good with this stuff, any suggestions? and I don't believe it's the video card.

Answer:light on keyboard but power button inoperative?

Things like "screen went white" and "keyboard light on but doesn't seem to power up."It will help if you can describle what happens when switching on from "cold".... any sounds of fans or disks, any lights come on at all except the keyboard's "power" light?Do you hear any beeps? Does the monitor stay black or show any messages at all?A long shot, but worth doing if you are happy to look inside the box, is to make absolutely sure the video card is properly pushed home and the data cable at the back of the computer is well connected.

Answer:Lenovo y570 power button light problem

hi Stefy333,

Welcome to the Forums.

From your description, it looks like there's a problem with the Sensor Board (this is the area where power and touch buttons are located).

- Link to picture

You can try to reseat the sensor board to isolate any possibliity of a loose connection but if this doesn't work, you may need to replace this part.

Can you please try to reset the BIOS -1) Take out battery and disconnect all power sources.2) Press Power button for upto a minute.3) Connect all power and battery.4) Start the system. If nothing happens, then shutdown again. Press the NOVO button on side of the laptop and let me know what happens? If nothing happens, then (if you are comfortable), open the laptop and remove the HDD. Power up the laptop and let me know what happens. You can also try removing the RAM, if you have 2 sticks, could be that one of them is faulty. Just try booting with either one.

Try clearing the CMOS to see if that will resolve the start up problem.  Just do this....
1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. (If your model has a removable battery, not an internal one)3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

Power button LED light is not lighting up on DELL Inspiron 5559. Is it normal?

I have a dell dimension 8100 that has been powerleaped from a 1.7 to a 2.5.  I recently upgraded the RAM from 256 PC 800 RDRam to 512.  I also have upgraded from a GEForce 2 Ultra to a GEForce 4 Ti4600 quite a while back.  Everything has been working great until the last week or so and I am at a loss here.  I used to leave my computer on all the time 24/7 with reboots here and there when I needed to.  Well, after I lost the fan on my Video card I started to turn it off.  After about six months of this it decided that it doesn't like to boot up after a night or two of being off.  What happens is when I push the power button you can hear it power on but the monitor says there is no signal being sent from the computer.  The other weird thing is that the power button light is amber instead of green.  I turned off the computer and unplugged all power from it and tried again.  This time it booted up.  The last time it happened, unplugging it didn't even work so I pulled the case apart and cleaned it out.  I yanked the Video card out of the AGP slot and reseated it and turned it on and presto it fired right up.  What gets me is when I leave it on and have to reboot it, everything works fine.  It only acts up when I leave it off over night or longer and then start it.  Could this be the battery on the motherboard?  My clock doesn't seem to be losing time in windows or anything.  If a... Answer:Dimension 8100 not booting up and has amber light on power button. Please HELP?

If the power button is blinking amber, it is probable that the power supply needs to be replaced. If the power button is solid amber, the power supply should be fine. At this stage of bootup, memory has not yet been tested, and is not a factor in this type of failure. Check the CPU and ensure that it is properly seated.

I have an Inspiron 3650 i3 desktop pc that is a few years old and seldom used. When not in use it is in sleep mode.
Yesterday i tried taking it out of sleep mode, with no luck, and noticed the power button light was solid orange. After a few tries I hard reset the pc and it would not boot up completely. The fans come on and the harddrive sounds like its working but i get no video and the power button remained solid orange. After troubleshooting from several forums i ended up disconnecting everything from the motherboard and taking out the battery then after replacing it and trying to boot with just the cpu fan plugged in. same result, solid orange power button. The PSU seems to be working fine after troubleshooting it so im thinking its either the processor or mobo that has gone bad. Any suggestions?

Hi guys well I just hope someone with some electronics knowledge in repairing notebooks would help me out in here.
I got a sager 5680 lappy, and when I plug the lap on AC power without the battery I turn on the unit and instantly goes off, ( I hear a low sparky noise like some sort of short circuit, when this happens the psu light dimms from rock solid ) .
Now if you leave the unit with the battery charging you may be lucky and the battery will charge and the only way the unit works is with the battery on it's bay, as soon as you remove the battery boom unit shuts off.

The Unit does work but only when you plug in a battery and when it charges if you leave it dunno a couple of nights never gets solid green

What I did :
==================

- Could the PSU be bad not throwing enough amps ? even if it shows voltage
on digital meter

- This lap has a separate voltage daughtercard for the battery I removed it when diagnosing this card goes
plugged onto the mainboard and here the battery gets plugged.

- Measured PSU voltage it's working fine 20volts DC

- Checked SMD fuse on motherboard , fine

- Dissasembled the entire unit ripped everything off that might me faulty

- I've read the AC plug sometimes get's broken and I retouched the solder points, once I did this, by miracle the unit started without the battery plugged on. But guess what after I assembled the unit then again , when on AC power alone turned on , and then went off . So I don... Read more

Answer:laptop not starting on AC , power light on , I press on button & goes off instantly

The power adapters and the power sockets have an extremely high failure rate in the Sager 5680 laptop. We have seen eight of them in our shop with identical symptoms. While still under warranty, Sager replaced those without a question.

The problem appears to be where the power meets the motherboard. New parts would need to be re-soldered into the system... expensive because it is very time consuming.

Sorry I don't have a solution for you. Working units are available on eBay, if you want to trace the problem between a working model and a failed one.

My fiancée's HP G62 laptop suddenly stopped booting. More specifically, when you press the power button, the power light comes on, but the screen stays totally black. I tried doing a hard reset on it (unplug, remove the battery, and hold power button down for 60 seconds), but that didn't work.  I tried this multiple times with no success. I shined a flashlight on the screen to see if there was a faint image (indicating a backlight problem), but there is no image at all. I tried connecting the computer to an external monitor, and that didn't work either.   Recently I had to replace the fan and the power button assembly on this machine, but it was working fine after that until now.

I have a Satellite P755-103. I upgraded the BIOS from version 2.6 to version 2.7 (file bios-20121002102409.zip) dated 17-09-2012. Since then, I noticed the light in the power button started to act randomly. It usually is on, sometimes it dims, sometimes it goes off, sometimes it blinks. I could not find any apparent reason for it. It also happens during the BIOS pre-boot phase, working on battery and working with the power supply on.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Answer:Satellite P755-103 power button light blinking randomly

Hi

Are you sure you are talking about power LED indicator and not HDD indicator.

The first from left is the DC indicator and it glows white when power is being correctly supplied from AC adaptor.

The 2nd from left is power indicator and it glows white when the computer is turned on.
But if you turn off the unit and goes into sleep mode, this led flashes amber.

The 3rd is battery indicator.

The 4th from left is HDD / CD/DVD drive indicator and it blinks whenever the notebook is accessing the HDD or reads from disk

I have a Dell Latitude E5250. When plugging in the AC adapter the only light that comes on is the power button light and it's blinking continuously. The other indicator lights are off. The system board has been replaced, no change. After the system board was replaced the battery indicator light came on and the battery charged, though the laptop would not power on when the power button was pressed. It would light up then go out.  I've removed the battery and AC adapter, held down the power button to discharge flea power, no change. Followed Dell TechDirect directions to remove the battery and CMOS battery, then insert the AC adapter and power on the laptop, no change. I've tried known good RAM. I've removed all components including the LCD cable, no change. When the AC adapter is installed the power button light blinks continuously, no pattern, no other indicator lights come on. Any thoughts? I'm wondering if it's a video issue, bad Touch LCD?
Thanks.

I have a dell t3400 (core duo e8400, 4gb Ram...) which was powered by the oem psu, but I changed it to a corsair vs450 so I could power my gpu. Two months later, after taking the gpu and psu to another pc, I put the oem psu back into the dell, and tried to power on, but there is a blinking orange light in the power button. I doubt it is a mobo problem, because it was working today. Any ideas?

Answer:Dell T3400 orange blinking light in power button

Blinking Amber power button is Bad Power supply.   Solid Amber power button is Dead motherboard.  T3400 with X38 Express Chipset
525W Active Power Factor Correction (APFC) power supply.

i have a dell laptop. it runs with vista. i just had an update last night, and now, the little speaker button at the bottom of my screen is gone. i tried looking in my control panel to see if there were a place to tic off whether i wanted the speaker there or not, but i didn't see anything that would make it visible again.

i even tried restarting my computer to see if that would reset things somewhat, but that didn't work either. it's just super-inconvenient not to have the mixer slider as a volume control.

does anyone know how to bring back the little speaker button? thank you!

I hope someone can help - I woke up this morning and my Omni 100-5155 Desktop All in One will not work.  When I press power there is no power on light and the monitor is dark.  I can hear the computer starting up but I never hear the windows sound because it will not play until someone enters the password.  I also do not see the system do the keyboard reconize check etc.   it is just a little over 2 years old  :-(   I have disconnceted and reconnected all the power cords and connections.  I thought about seeing if the BIOS is reconizing the hard drive but of course I will not be able to see anything without a monitor.  I do have the recovery disks also but they won't do much good without a monitor.  I also thought about hooking it up to my television (as a monitor) to see if the system is indeed working but that computer has no monitor port. Thank you for any input!

Hi,
I have an old Optiplex GX240 that had its power supply break, I recently got another power supply from a different computer. The Power supply is working however there is an orange light on the motherboard and power button that doesn't flash. The ABCD lights on the back of the computer are also not lit.

Answer:Orange Light On Power Button and Motherboard - Dell Optiplex GX240

GX240 requires specific NON PFC power supply.  This unit is 16 years old now and has 512 meg ram of the PC133 variety.   A newer model like an optiplex GX620 or better is still viable.  This system is TOO OLD and TOO Slow to be of any use.

just before I manged to knock it off my bed, on a quick look the plug that goes in to the computer look slightly bent and now when I try to turn it on, it doesnt work. even when it is plugged in.

An orange light still flickers down the bottem when I push the on button.

So is this a computer problem or a power cord problem?

Answer:Satellite M110 - Orange light flickers when I push the power button

Hi becks88,

Sounds like a serious hardware problem... Can you start the notebook without AC/DC adaptor or is the adaptor charging the battery?

Try also removing the AC/DC adaptor and battery for one hour at least. After this connect both again and try to start the notebook.

In worst case you need professional help from an authorized service provider? :(

Hi everybody,
I recently inherited an unused PC from work. It's an Optiplex 780 with a faulty power supply.
I replaced the power supply with a working one from an old Optiplex 740 and also had to buy an standard ATX 24 pin to mini ATX 24 pin cable in order to use the 740' PSU in my Optiplex 780.
I have plugged in the power cord (but no mouse & keyboard because I don't have any USB keyboard available) and I expected the computer to show DELL logo as well as on screen POST messages during power up but instead I can see the following :
1) Power button in orange color. No blinking. : according to service manual it means PSU is probably OK and PC has reach booting stage 2.
2) 1,2 & 4 green diagnostic lights are on. This combination (1,2,4) is not listed in service manual so I have no idea on the possible kind of error.
Any suggestions about the possible error and how to fix it?
Kind regards,
Beltrixx
(Manel)

Answer:Optiplex 780 - unknown diagnostic light code 1,2,4 plus orange power button

Hello!  I would unplug everything go into the computer and unplug any cards you have like graphics card and network cards etc. Also unplug your HDD and Optical Drives and plug them all back in and see if that clears it.  I looked at the manuals you did and just combined 1,2 and just 4.
