SSD Crucial m500 + T440s = 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

Question: SSD Crucial m500 + T440s = 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

Hi, I used an SDD Crucial m500 480 Gb in my Thinkpad x201i for about a month. It was configured in 'Self-Encrypting Drive' (SED) so my Thinkpad asked me a passphrase at boot.It worked great, never got a problem with it. Last week, I bought a t440s.I decided to move my SSD into that t440s. At first, I always got the same error message "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)" and wasn?t able to boot or install the OS.I removed the SED passphrase (because I wasn?t sure if encryption was involved with the TPM chip or not) but that didn?t help. I flashed the UEFI / bios to the latest version (2.17 at that time) without any more luck. Then I updated the SSD Crucial m500 firmware to MU02 to MU03.One of the fixes of that update is "Fix for potential Haswell compatibility issue (latest Intel platform)" which could only help. And it helped : the drive was then recognized and I installed the Operating System after setting again a SED passphrase. It worked great for several reboots but, this morning, a "hot reboot" (restart from the Operating System without power off), I?ve got the 2100 message error again...I powered the system off, remove the power cord for several second then powered on and it worked but It keep me worried....The problem is not permanent but It could be very bad to not be able to boot my laptop !I thought I fixed the problem permanently with that firmware update but it seems not... Do someone has any idea ?Is that SSD a model to avoid installing in t440s ?If so, are some SSD brand/model which work without any issue ?

Preferred Solution: SSD Crucial m500 + T440s = 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have a month old T440s. It has the original 256GB SSD drive (didn't open\replace anything). After uninstalling some antivirus software win8 had problems booting. To make a long story short, I tried different things to fix the MBR and eventually got to the point of trying to do a full factory restore, which didn't work (it couldn't find the recovery partition). When I boot up now, I get the "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)" error.Aside from trying to restore using Lenovo CD (shipped to me, will be here in a couple of days), what else cn be done and what caused this ordeal? I don't mind about the data on the SSD, I just really need my laptop functioning ASAP. Thanks for any advise you may have!

Hi,check out the disk drive model. If that's a Samsung SSD PM841, refer the page below regarding firmware update affected models:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082504

I have a new Lenovo X240 out of the box. I immediately upgraded with a Crucial M500 SSD 240mb drive. The computer is running a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit. The BIOS on the laptop is the most current. The firmware on the M500 is the most current. It seems that every several times I start or reboot the system I receive "DETECTION ERROR 2100". After powering off the machine and powering it on again the computer will boot to Winddows. I have seen numerous posts about this issue between Crucial vs. Lenovo. I've tried every suggested fix to no avail. I have tried the configuration using an identical, brand new M500 SSD with the same results. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for your suggestions,.

On my W520 I am running a Crucial M4 512GB for the last 4 month. It was updated with FW 010G 10 days ago. When it stopped working with "2100: Detection Error on HDD0" I took the M4 out. It would not become active on any other port. While I tried to rebuild the system on another HDD-drive I left it in a //FREECOM HDD dock powered on, but not connected. When I finished the rebuild about 2 hours later I plugged the dock into the usb of another machine and it got recognized. So I took it back to the W520.It is now working in the W520 as before for about 2 * 10hrs without any problems. Can anyone explain what happened please?

Whenever I try to restart my ThinkPad T440s, it takes a very long time to get past the "ThinkPad" screen. If I hard reboot it while it's stuck here (press and hold the power key, then turn it back on), it loads just fine. However, if I let it keep going it beeps loudly and angrily and gives me the 2100: Detection error on HDDO (Main HDD) on a black screen with only "Press Esc to continue". When I press Esc it loads the boot screen, but without access to my hard drive. If I hard reboot it again, it starts just fine. Any ideas on why it would be doing this, or what I could do to fix it? It looks like it was a common problem a few years ago, but this is new to me and it doesn't really look like there was a fix back then. Hoping there's better news now? Any help is appreciated!

I have a Lenovo E550 with a HDD and i5 processor. It was bought about two years ago and it works fine until today. I found that the computer cannot start normally and "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)" just showed up after a few seconds. I did the lenovo diagnostic test but all test passed. I cannot find any solution of this problem online. please help.

Hi all,i am discovering the same problem as most people here.I have an expensive Yoga Thinkpad 12, about 2000,= euro's in januari 2014, warranty endded in januari 2016, my extra 3rd yr warranty i have bought is missing by Lenovo (i forgot the registration but in the mean time i have send the supportdesk from Lenovo al the documents including pincode from the card) and now they say de extra warranty was canceled and / or credited. Nothing of that. poor service for such a great brand. But now my problem. about 3 weeks ago all of a sudden my SSD stopped and generated this 2100 error. It's a Samsung M27TD256 from the same series as Lenovo mentioned. Because of Lenovo's attitude of not servicing (Oh yes the supportdesk guy said SSD Failure, needs to be replaced for new) i went on to the Internet how to open the machine and without any damage that was no problem. I have a computer repaircentre myself and i tried to replace te Samsung SSD with: a 120 Gb Kingston SSD / a 240 Gb Kingston Fury SSD / an Intel 120 Gb SSD. All brand new, right out of stock, non will work !!!So i took the old original SSD, tested it in another PC and it works perfectly, i could install Win 10 and boot from it.I put it bak in the Yoga... nothing. the 2100 error again. So i thought it would be the mailboard or controller but curious a i am, i took an old 250 Gb harddrive, no SSD and guess what....... The Yoga booted up without any error messages, external DVD connected and i could install an OS (whatever, Win8... Read more

Answer:2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD) Where is ...

I had the same problem on a S230U Lenovo Twist. I replaced the MB and the HDD and the HD connector/controller and had the same problem. By accident, as a result of testing I installed the HD without the bracket that holds it in place. Voila it has not failed once since then. It has been running flawlessly for 2 months or more now. I havent bothered to reinstall the bracket since it is running great. There is almost no extra room in the HD compartment so I am not worried about it flopping around. Only thing I can figure is there is some kind of static buildup with the bracket installed. I tried bending the bracket to see if I could make it contact the MB to discarge static if that was the case. No good. Removed the bracket, and it worked immediately. I don't know if that will work for you but it worked for me.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga, with a 256GB SSD and an i5 processor. I received it on April 29. After two weeks of normal use, it crashed and gave this error:?2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)?I could not get it to boot. I took it to a computer repair shop and they (Lenovo warrantee) replaced the SSD. It worked for about a week, then crashed again, same error. My tech guy said that it might be a bad board, frying hard drives; but Lenovo insisted on replacing the hard drive again. Ten days later, same crash. I unplugged it and put it on a shelf for the weekend, intending to take it back to the shop. Monday morning I plugged it in and it started up normally. It has been working normally for three days, but I am worried about getting the same error and crash. Can you tell me what might be happening, and if there is anything I can do to prevent a recurrence? This seems to be a common problem across many machine models, but I haven't found any solutions to it.

Hi, I bought Thinkpad Yoga last year. The Yoga originally came with 512 GB HDD plus 16GB SanDisk SSD. A couple of days ago, I replaced the original HDD with Crucial BX100 SSD (500GB). Since then, I have the 2100 error. It goes like this. When I boot the computer by pressing the power button on the side of the computer, it boots well. About 30 minues later, the computer suddenly loses connection with the newly installed SSD, and shows 2100 error message on black screen. When I press any key (as instructed on the screen), the computer shows Boot Menu. But the Boot Menu lists only ATA HDD1: SANDisk SSD U110 16GB. When I reinstalled the original HDD, 2100 error didn't happen. But I don't want to use HDD anymore for speed issue. If anyone solved a similar problem, please help me. Thanks in advance.- H_Kim.

This is not just that one particular comptuer type or HDD type. I have two different Edge Series comptuers with standard HDD that are consistantly getting the 2100 Connection Error and Missing Operating System errors at bootup. Have to boot a couple of times to get the OS to load properly.

Hi, I've had my W520 since November or so last year, I swapped out the hard disk when I got it for a Crucial M4 256GB. The machine has been fast and totally stable until now. I'm using Win7 Pro and have not applied reg hacks or bois updates, it just worked. Now I am seeing the 2100: Detection Error on HDD0 sporadically after being unattended for about 30 mins. Rebooting solves the problem. The machine is set to never sleep or hibernate other than manually. It hasnt yet occured when working at the machine but I suspect Windows is crashing, then this message appears as the machine tries to reboot. When I reboot manually its detected and Win7 runs. Has anyone seen this or have any ideas? Could it be an overheating issue? Is my drive on the way out? It has been running far more than is strictly nessesary. The machine is set to never hibernate/sleep, so it cant be an error related to that.SSD Life reports the drive is in excellent health. All files are stored on network shares, only program files on the SSD. RegardsMatt

Try putting the old drive in and see if it does the same.Do note that SSDs tend to fail in unconventional manners compared to platter drives.

I found some similar threads (such as this one) but none with an actual diagnosis and resolution. I have a Thinkpad T520 with a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO (an SSD like all the other reports of this problem). It has worked fine for a month then suddenly I am seeing this error on boot.I have the latest BIOS and drive firmware updates as of the time of this writing. The error appears to be "bogus" in that booting from a Linux CD, and from a Windows Recovery CD, the drive is seen just fine, with no errors reported, despite the "detection error" reported by the BIOS. SMART status as reported by Linux shows the drive to be in excellent condition with no error or warning flags: SMART Attributes Data Structure revision number: 1

Hello,I have SSD installed into mSATA slot and 9mm HDD installed into ultrabay slot with HDD adapter. But I REMOVED the original 7mm HDD and now there is nothing in regular hard drive slot. After restart, there is a couple of beeps and error message " 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD) press ESC to continue", and booting proceeds only after I press ESC. Before that there was no such error. Laptop still boots well from SSD and HDD in ultrabay works well, but this error during startup is annoying at least.Laptop Thinkpad T430s. Is there any way to disable SATA port that corresponds to HDD0 (may be in BIOS?) or any other way to get rid of the error? The HDD in Ultrabay slot is 9mm, so I think there is no way to fit it into main HDD slot. Thanks!

Hello everybody, I know that there are some other posts with this error message. But they all appear on other devices and none of them has a solution which is working for me. I got a T430s back from one of our users which showed this error (mentioned in subject) when booting. I had no no chance to enter BIOS too. 1. I copied all partitions to another SSD and replaced it => the error came up again after few days=> so I thought it must be an hardware issue concerning the internal SATA-connector2. I put the SSD in a completely new device and ordered a replacement of the mainboard because there was waranty left on the older device.3. Yesterday they came and replaced the mainboard of the older device.4. Today the user came back with the same error on the new device with the new SSD In every case it helps to remove the SSD one time and insert it again - then the SSD is detected correctly - until the error appears again after few days of usage. The only thing I did not try until now is to insert the SSD in the old device with the new mainboard. Before I forget this: BIOS is Ver. 2.52 (I see there is 2.54 available since few days, but change log does not say something important - gonna check that later and post it) Any ideas? Thx Martin

Answer:T430s - 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

check with the OEM of the SSD drive. You did not mention the Make/model of the SSD. Maybe there is a firmware update for the SSD drive. Especially since the 430 has SATA3 interface. If its not hardware you'd need to assess what you're doing software wise in the "copied all partitions ot another SSD..." I have found out cloning can cause problems and partitions become misaligned. When I went ahead to fix the misalignment with Mini partition Manager it corrupted the registry and so other files. Various applications cannot be updated or uninstalled. I have to reimage it and not clone from the source to get it right.A quick test is to just to a base install on one of the SSD's (EG Windows 7) after purging all the partitions. Letting the OS configure, partition & format the NTFS drive. If it works after that then its not the hardware and a software issue. My thoughts anyway.

Anyone experiencing this? I see a lot of older posts referring to this error. This is on a brand new machine. Wondering if this is something that needs to be repaired or just a bug which could be fixed by an upcoming Bios update. Happens infrequently but sometimes I will come back to the laptop after walking away, and it will be at this error.

Hi,I got T450s with 500GB HDD which I replaced with 500GB SSD Crucial MX200.After installing Windows 8.1 Pro, turning on bitlocker and restarting machine, I saw black screen with white text: 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD) usually if I power off laptop and turn it on again, problem gets solved and I can start Windows, but then after restarting computer again the error is usually there again... I've noticed that if I turn off the bitlocker, the problem doesn't appear (at least I wasn't able to encounter it without bitlocker). I saw threads about similar problems with this and other thinkpad models as well as crucial and samsung SSDs, but none was actually reporting that it may be connected with bitlocker functionality... Hello. I got this error each time after hard reset, or any non-standard unexpected poweroff."2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". I found workaround how to boot: each time in this situation i press F10 to load Diagnostic Utility at boot time, then see error message, press ESC to continue booting into diagnostic utility, and here I already see my hard drive. So just do nothing, quit from utility to restart laptop. And now it see hard drive and boot as usual. BTW, if I boot from USB flash drive, and do hard reset, it throw same error but for m2 SDD instead of sata HDD0. I have stock WDC WD10JPVX-08JC3T5 hard disk and stock SanDisk SSD U110 16GB.Model of laptop Lenovo ThinkPad T440p 20AN0030RT. Hello, I recently upgraded my hard drive from 128 to 256 sdd without migrating my files to the new hard drive I thought I could reinstall everything from scratch. But when I installed the new sdd I first got a Hdd0 error and then send to the boot menu. The boot menu didn't have anything to select, so I thought of putting back the old hard drive to return it back as it was. After doing that I still get the same screen error. What can I do to fix this or can it even be fix?

After a windows update, the laptop started giving me this error. I attempted the quick fixes, such as going into diagnostic, the HDD isn't present there either. I've reseated the HDD, nothing is working. I believe this could be a chipset/IRST mismatch issue, I just need to know what to get and a suggestion on how to get it installed. Ok yes it's an old laptop but I need to get it going even if only long enough to back up my data. I am desperate please any solution is a godsend at this point.

My laptop is T430 of Lenovo. I have two drives installed on my computer, one is SSD (128 G, PLEXTOR), another is HDD (500 G, Samsung). Now I have encountered a serious issue that I could not find the HDD in my Windows 10. Almost two weeks ago, I found my laptop crash frequently. I think there is an extreme incompatibility between the Windows 10 and SSD. I even reinstalled my OS for several times. But it still crashed. Even I opened a simple word file, it does not respond. Two days ago, the issue got even more serious. When I boot my system, I found a problem with "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". It suggests me to press the "ESC" button to enter into the OS. However, I could not find my HDD on my computer anymore. I have some paramount important data and files in this drive. Could some friends provide some meaningful suggestions of recovering data and files for me, please? I'm very anxious. Thank you very much!

Hello everyone,
One fine evening while watching a movie, my laptop stopped responding and in frustration I switched off the laptop by holding the power button long enough to turn off. Next Morning it showed a blue screen and a message to recover my windows, which I failed to do and by the afternoon this message showed up. Detection Error on HDD0 (main HDD) and hence forth I've been unable to install windows from a USB drive since ( and I suppose) it is not able to read my HDD. I do not care about my data at all, I just want my laptop up and running. If I can have the data back it will be perfect otherwise I don't mind not getting my data back. I know for a fact that my Hard disk is fine because I went into command prompt, diskpart , and list disk, and saw the status of HDD as healthy, this is after the error (detection error on HDD). SO my question is: Why this error? IS there a problem in the motherboard? Why the error shows once and then doesn't show the next time and then comes up again.

Answer:2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD); Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga

The error might be bad sectors, but I'm not sure. if my guessing is correct, you might have to get a new drive to replace. also you need to reinstall OS

Answer:T530 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD) SSD Mushkin Chronos Deluxe

Hi Michael222,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with HDD detection on your ThinkPad T530.

Have you checked updating system BIOS?
Is the system is having both HDD and SSD?
Check with reseating the drives.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

When I try to boot my W520, I get a BIOS boot up error : "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". I am using PNY XLR8 240GB SSD. It worked fine for a month. I also have PGP installed and whole disc encrypted. I installed an update of Intel Management Engine Firmware and Intel Chipset, both are the latest from lenovo site because I was experiencing expreme slowness from my harddrive. Programs would freeze. Webpages would take forever to load..The next time I rebooted, I got the error. If I leave the SSD out for a bit, and put the SSD back in, the disk will work for some time... but on next reboot, it is again detection error.. TRIM is enabled on my system. I am not sure how the SSD died so quickly. I am back to using my HDD but I am not happy. I want a solution... is this a intel chipset issue? Intel IMEI issue? Is the PNY SSD just a bad model? I've googled plenty and dont really see a solution. Sometimes there is a firmware update.. PNY has no firmware updates for my drive.. I don't see anybody else using PNY on their W520, but plenty of people are experiencing Error 2100 with SSD on their W520.. somethings fishy.. help please! thanks in advance !

Answer:W520: PNY XLR8 240GB SSD with error "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)"

Hello,
I don't have a ThinkPad W520 or a PNY SSD, but could it be simply that the SSD is coming loose inside the ThinkPad's chassis? I suppose this could occur if a 7mm high SSD was inserted into a 9.5mm high 2.5" drive bay with a ~2mm spacer to "pad" the unused vertical space.

I've had my T430 for about a year, and other than two Corsair RAM sticks failing my computer has been running smoothly. Last night, my computer suddenly froze up and now it won't recognize my SSD. I'm currently using my stock HDD, but now I can't access any of the data on my SSD. I've tried running the SSD firmware update from the Lenovo site, but it wouldn't show my SSD under the memory devices (I'm not sure if this particular SSD is supported by the firmware update either). I don't think lenovo customer support would help in this situation, since my stock HDD runs fine and I didn't buy the SSD from them, so any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem that I ran into for no reason. Does anyone have a solution for this? Luckily I was able to login to safemode once and did my data back up after I could not login to safe mode. The moment I connect to net work this problem happens. On a side note I bought this T430S on ebay 3 months back with 16GB Memory, 500GB SSD which was running pretty good.

Hello! First post on this forum but been browsing for some time. My machine: ThinkPad S430, type-model: 3364-5HG, Win 7 x64, 500 GB HGST HDD. My problem is notably similiar to this one: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082504.The problem occurs on very irregular basis, at times a couple of times a day but other times it goes weeks between the interrupts. It starts with some sort of short mechanical sound from the HDD, similar to the one when you turn the laptop of by pressing and holding the power button (only do this if I absolutely have to, it feels like choking someone with a pillow). After the sound, the screen freezes for a couple of seconds before the short bluescreen mentioned in the link occurs. The rest is as follows by the link above. Basically the only difference is the HDD brand (HGST in my S430 and Samsung in the link). After reboot (with power button during the automated reboot after bluescreen when the error code occurs), the laptop works fine. It's getting quite annoying when this happens and also the suspension of not knowing when it will happen next is not good for my heart. What to do? Thanks in advance! Regards,Nicholas

Hi, I need to upgrade the firmware of the SSD and when I put the SSD in Lenovo laptops in ROM mode. I get the following error "2100 Detection Error on HDD0" as disk can't be read. After this it asks me to press "ESC" to continue. I want it to go to PXE boot when the DISK failure is found as I push OS in the RAM and then treat this disk as secondry (SSD) and then recover it. My boot order is set as :: SSDPXE Can some please help how can I avoid getting in the Press ESC to continue and make machine reboot automatically? By the way its 440P lenovo machine I tried this stuff on. Any help is appreciated. Thanks-Vishal

I have a Thinkpad Yoga which today was turned on while I was away (i.e. computer was not in use). When returning back the screen said "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". Windows must have crashed (probably just another one of those faulty Lenovo drivers) and then the system couldn't boot up.
Everything seems alright after a hard reboot but I'm afraid my SSD drive has gone bad.

I have the same problem on a Lenovo Thinkpad, it does it once a day One way to fix it: Once it boot up wrong, press esc and the in the menu select the "Lenovo diagnosis" or something like this, once you see your 2 drives, you can reboot and it will work. When I launched a usb key while having the 2100 error, only the liteon ssd was detected... Might be a Hard Drive problem? (my thinkpad is only 3 months old) I tried updating my Bios, and I reinstalled windows. No differrences, still having a bug once every 2 or 3 reboot I'm trying to fix it soon and if no way, i'm going to make the warranty work(Sorry for my english, not my native language)

Hi, last week I received my new T470; everything fine until yesterday when, after enabling virtualization support when running on battery, I received the infamous "2100: Detection error on HDD0". Power off and on again and the system booted correctly. After a couple of hours I left the pc for ten minutes or so and I wasn't able to wake it up: power light was on but tapping on keys or touchpad didn't wake the laptop up. Power off and a second "2100"; this time turning the pc off and on didn't do the trick... I thought the issue could be related to the virtualization settings I had enabled, so I entered the BIOS and disabled virtualization. Bingo, the pc booted! So, just to be sure that it was the root cause of the problem, I re-enabled it.. but everything went fine! From then I'm not able to reproduce the issue anymore, but my OCD (and my colleagues, that kept saying I should have bought a Mac) is telling me that I have to fix this. My hard disk is a Toshiba SSD: Model Number: THNSF5256GPUK TOSHIBAFirmware Version: 51025KLA Googling these codes brought me here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/ThinkPad-X270-PCIe-SSD-NVMe-refusing-to-wake-... The fact that my laptop wasn't waking up makes me think the problems could be related; I've seen a lot of posts of people with the same issue, some suggest checking HD connectors, other to change the HD model. Some people say that when the error oc... Read more

Answer:Brand new T470: "2100: Detection error on HDD0"

This kind of problem is hard to diagnose, but if it were my machine, I would update the BIOS to the latest version and install the newest power management drivers. I would then boot into the BIOS and load setup defaults. I would use the machine normally and see if it is stable.

I got the dreaded 2100 error a few days ago on my X230 with a Samsung SSD.While I managed to solve it in a somewhat unexpected way, I wanted to document the process here as I am almost certain it was the result of a bug in the laptop firmware/BIOS. If any Lenovo representatives are reading along I'd appreciate your comments.Long story short: Power on laptop, observe 2100 error. Reboot, press Enter to interrupt start-up, then F12 to select boot device. Hard drive appears in list, despite it not being detected a few seconds earlier. Sigh of relief. Select hard drive, boot up. Problem solved.Details: System configuration is X230 ThinkPad (BIOS version 2.57) with a Samsung 840 EVO SSD (model MZ-7TE1T0BW), Windows 8.1. Before someone points it out, I am aware there's a BIOS version 2.58 available, but from the readme file it doesn't appear to have any fixes for this. The trouble started when I had just powered on the laptop from stand-by, and was setting up a WiDi connection to my TV. The laptop froze hard - no activity whatsoever, couldn't move the mouse pointer, no response to Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Kept the power button pressed until the laptop switched off. Then got a "2100: Detection error on HDD0" message when I tried to boot it again. My first concern was trying to salvage as much data as possible, so I removed the SSD and connected it to a different machine using a SATA-USB adapter. The SSD appeared to be in perfect condition, and I was able to copy all of my data off of it.Popped... Read more

Hi there guys! First of all, it's my first time to post something here. Just recently purchased a Thinkpad Twist. However, after a few days, all of a sudden, I always get the error 2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HD). I'm not sure what exactly is the problem though because after a few minutes, when I restart, it'll load Windows 8 back and eventually after a few browsing and use of computer, will force restart stating there's a problem encountered, etc. Once it restarts, it gives the same 2100 error again. Please help me guys as I'm really frustrated. I can't seem to use the computer normally without force restart due to error and loading windows 8 thereafter due to 2100 error.

After about 18 months of use, I am repeadedly receiving the following errors on my Thinkpad Twist S230U (Model #3347CTO): 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)Press Esc to continue. (On Startup) or Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. I'm worried that it will get to the point where it won't startup again (and it is a huge pain when I am working and it goes BSOD on me). There was nothing installed or any physical shock to the machine that would have led to this happening when it did.

Hello everyone. I'm having random problems with my new disk Evo 500 Samsung 840 Gb The error I get is, "2100: Error detection on hdd0".I searched the forum responses to this error and can not find a solution to the problem. I have an x220i type 4286 with a standard 320GB mechanical hard drive. I ordered it in 2011, and it has been an absolute marvel for me for the 2 years that I've had it, then out of nowhere, I got the error message you see in the subject above, "2100: Detection error on HDD0" then when I go with the "Hit ESC to continue" I end up getting the PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable" error message pops up. I removed the keyboard to get a look and everything...ehh..."looks" ok, the ribbon cable doesn't look torn or anything, and nothing in the back of the HDD looks wrong. I removed the HDD to see if excessive dust was in there and it seemed ok, and I reseated it carefully, and it looked proper. So I'm kind atorn as to what I should do now. I don't think I have another external HDD that will work to test, but apparently this is a common issue or something? It seems a lot of folks have issues with the SSD but mine is just a plain-jane mechanical HDD. help? Please?

Answer:x220 - 2100:Detection Error on HDD0 // PXE-E61:Media test failure,check cable

Hi,

Most likely your HDD has failed Can you connect it to some other machine via sata/USB adapter or direct to a desktop and see if it's accessible.

The PXE/media... error message is your laptop attempting to boot via the network since it can't boot the HDD. You can ignore that. All it means is that the boot devices earlier in the boot order list weren't bootable.

Answer:S540 2100 Detection Erro on HDD0

I have the exact same problem.. I've changed the harddisk (Samsung SSD 840) to a brand new Kingston SDD (240 Gb). and it still does the same problem. I've had it in for diagnostics twice, but they can't seem to find the problem. Once in a while the computer detects the harddisk and I'm able to open windows (otherwise it opens the boot-menu), and it stays stable for somewhat 10 min and then the computer freezes and restarts. I've had the detection problem for quite a while now (since March), and just restarted the computer and continued working until I turned it off myself. But the problem became worse, and now I can't even use it. I really hope you can help me. I love to work with this model, and I don't want to buy a new computer since I just started studying again and urgently need one..Thanks in advance! kgrovep

Good afternoon and welcome to the community.

You shouldn't have any problems setting up you machine the way you describe. My X220 (same generation as your W) is configured with a Crucial m4 mSATA SSD under the keyboard and a Samsung 840Pro SSD in the main bay. I've had zero issues. A moderator colleague is running a T420 also equipped with the Crucial m4 mSATA SSD, but retained the platter drive in the main bay, I believe.

Hallo.
I have a failed HDD.
In the past I have usually been able to help myself to at least retrieve any data from the HDD.
But this time the problem seems to be different. If it has any bearing, this is the first time since upgrading to Windows 7 and operating for I can't remember how long, since without any issues.
As I always have in the past, this HDD is formatted with a separate partitions (1) for the OS and program files, and (2) for my data. This has usually this been enough to retrieve my data by installing the drive in a second Thinkpad using a second HDD adapter and retrieving the data. These days I also keep most of my data on a NAS but I do have some folders on a D:\ or Data drive which I would like to retrieve.

This time however I cannot even 'see' the drive at all. Not when I try to boot from it, or as a second HDD using an adapter. It is not even visible under Disk Management in case it needed to be initialized (again?) So this time, I seem stuck, unable to help myself:

In the first instance, I get the Error 2100: HDD0 (Hard Disk Drive) initialization error (2) when booting from the drive.
When I press ESC to continue, the computer tries to initialize the HDD or something, and from memory, I think displays an 'unable to boot from any device' screen and shows the status for the devices without any operating systems.

When I try the same with the affected HDD but this time with an installation disc inserted, I do not see the 'Press any key to boot from CD or DV... Read more

After the BIOS bootup sequence the following error appears: ERROR2100: HDD0 (Hard disk drive) initialization error (2) Press <ESC> to continue As far as i press ESC i am getting a new screen informing me about "Cannot boot from any device" and my HDD is outlined as "4: ATA HDD0: Device Error". I already tried to find it via BIOS and by PC Doctor HDD check tool but nothing happened. The HDD isnt getting recognized anymore. There was nothing special due to the regular usage of my T60 and i am not sure if i would be able to at -least recover, data in any way back to somewhere. Any help, idea or even support would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance and best regards SteveMessage Edited by T60_user on 11-09-2008 03:20 AM

Answer:T60 hdd isnt getting detected anymore (error 2100:hdd0, initialization error 2)

Hello, please try Ultimative Boot Cd or Ubuntu or Knoppix Linux Live Cd.Burn them to disk and boot with it. But it seems, that either the hdd or the board controller is faulty.

Hi everyone, I have a working Thinkpad T61P Type: 6459 CTO. I want to install Windows 7 on this OCZ SSD drive but when I start the computer I get the error above. I tried this with the original BIOS version and with the upgraded version (2.26-1.08). I also tried upgrading the HD Firmware with this and this upgrade, but it didn't detect any upgradeable HDs. The original HD works fine and the SSD drive works perfect if I use it as USB. The SSD drive is also formatted. I'm clueless as what to do next. Any ideas, suggestions? Thanks...

Hi, I have X61 with exactly same SSD amd having exactly same problem. Did you resovle the problem? or anybody in Lenovo can help please? The SSD works fine in a desktop PC and dell laptop. So I consider this is a bug in BIOS. Thanks,Kenneth

Hi, I updated BIOS on my ThinkPad Yoga to the latest version (i went from GQET35WW to GQET38WW according to the log). After I installed WIN 10 TP and Ubuntu 14.10 (dualboot with GRUB2).Afrer a while I started recieving POST ERROR 2100 after cold boot. I thought my HDD is gone, so I went to dignostics menu and immidiately my HDD turned on (I heard it spin up), so I ran the tests (everything was successful) and everything was working correctly. Next day I had the same issue - so i just launched diagnostic menu, my HDD spins up, then I just exit the diagnostics menu and everything is working correctly... I have read some thread about this problem, but everybody is talking about their SSD drives. I suspect that the new BIOS is the problem, before that everything was OK. Thanks for any advice.

Answer:TP Yoga POST Error 2100 HDD0 after BIOS upgrade

Hi aa07, I had a situation similar to yours: a Thinkpad E531, with Windows 10 TP and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I happened to see the error after a VERY extensive update of Windows 10. I just managed to solve the problem, though do not know if this will solve the problem permanently: in Application Menu under Setup, I entered in Config tab and chose Serial ATA (SATA), and changed the value (of SATA Controller Mode Option) to Compatibiliti (originally it was on AHCI). After that the laptop was working again like a charm. I tried to change back the value to AHCI and still it boots smoothly (actually I did not dedicate time to figure out what those two values mean). Anywa I beleive it's the fault of Windows 10 TP, since I had the problem immediately after Microsoft update, and actually the Wndows does not load anymore (I see a big )': in the middle of blue screen displaying an error), and though Windows tried to return to the previous version, it still does not load. It's the last time I'm going to try a TP product of ANY type. Hope this helps.Best

Answer:T61 "2100: HDD0 (Hard Disk drive) initialization error (2)"

Hello,

That usually means the hard disk drive is failing. Seagate does offer a diagnostic program called SeaTools for Windows here on their web site to test a hard disk drive to see if it is faulty or not. That program needs to be installed onto a working Windows computer, after which the suspect hard disk drive can be plugged into it for testing.

If you do not have access to a separate computer to boot from and attach the suspect hard disk to, Seagate offers a version of the software here on their web site that can be written to a CD-R to make a boot CD for the computer.

Hi and welcome, bipocichI assume this issue is the BIOS and SSD firmware incompatibility related. Lenovo support site and forum confirm it's the most likely cause.Check out the recent versions on the Lenovo and SSD manufacturer support sites.

Hi,my just over one year old lenovo t410s is not behaving properly. It freezes up unperiodcally in widows and produces a bsod for a couple of milliseconds. When it tries to reboot right after, the following error message pops up: Error2100: HDD0 (Hard disk drive) initialization error (2) Press <ESC> to continue. Pressing escape does not lead any way, the only way to buypass this message in order to enter windows again is to undock the laptop and pull out the battery, and then insert it again. I have read a couple of forum threads and tried some fixes and some registry cleaning, but none of them seems to work. Is this a hardware fault? Do i have to replace my 128 gig ssd, if so will the warranty cover it? Or is there some fix out there Thanks//Even Låte

Answer:2100: HDD0 (Hard disk drive) initialization error (2)

It sounds like the HD is failing FAST. 1st you should already have done. Get a backup image or at least your data depending on how long it will run before generating the error. Data is lost when it hits that state so the last file is likely incomplete or useless.Have you run the HD diagnostics from your system? It part of the Lenovo tools. It could be thermal related as well. Runing in a cooler area might give you a longer run.SSD drive, well I've seen a few fail and there is no bring them back when they're going.

Dont know what to do.. I have the corsair F120 SSD and there is no new firmware for it.. everything is up to date in my system, using win 7 ultimate. I haven't tried running SATA in compatibility mode instead of AHCI because I then have to reinstall everything and losing alot of the SSD write speed. The laptop works if I restart it after the error(ctrl+alt+delete) and I am only getting this error when I power on the laptop. I Haven't had any issues in windows at all. I really dont know what to do.

Hi, I have a T410s with the latest BIOS 1.50 and a Intel X-18M 160 GB (FRU 45N8019). If I try to boot I get the hard drive initialization error. I used the Intel Flash Tool and it says the intel drive has the latest firmware. I also changed BIOS to compatibility mode. What can I do to get this working? As I saw on Thinkwiki (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T410s) the laptop was shipped with this SDD so it should work, no? Thank you.

Hello, I secure erased the Samsung ssd in my x300. I had already done that before with no issues but this time the system did not react for an hour or two so I had to manually turn it off and back on again. Now the SSD is not recognized by the BIOS anymore - booting is sluggish and I get 2100 HDD0 Hard Disk Drive - Initialization Error (3) I already tried attaching the ssd to an external 1,8" mSATA-> USB adapter but it didn't help. My laptop is out warranty for about 4 months now - does anyone have an idea on how I can get it to work again w/o having to purchase a new mSATA drive (which easily runs $150) Thanks Andreas

Hi, I am having an issue with my T420 and a recently acquired Crucial BX100 solid state drive. I checked Crucial's website and it stated the BX100 was compatible with the T420. I installed it per the Lenovo Maintenance Manual but it gives me this error message: 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD). I was able to install the BX100 on a desktop and was able to boot and install Windows 8.1 perfectly fine. I was also able to update the firmware. The standard drive that came with the laptop works just fine and I updated the BIOS and all drivers and firmware with the Lenovo System Update utility. I wiped the drive and tried again, but it still gives me the same error. I have tried both UEFI and MBR, but to no avail. I should also note that SATA mode was set to AHCI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I read on another thread here that the issue is driver related. For that user, switching to another aHCI driver solved the issue. I would suggest getting the newest Intel driver HERE, loading it in a usb drive and instructing the OS during install to use this driver during setup. Hope it helps

Ok. All I am looking for today is to find out exactly what this firmware update fixes on the Samsung SSDs that run into the: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082504 "The ThinkPad system may experience a bluescreen that may only appear for a very short time, followed by a reboot. During POST, the system will display a POST 2100 error code indicating the drive cannot be initialized. The machine will not boot into the operating system.NOTE: Powering the system off and then on again will usually clear the error, but a warm reboot will not." Our company has now over 400 Crucial MX100 SSDs in Lenovo X220 laptops and we are starting to see more and more of our X220s having this problem. For Samsung drives, lenovo is offering a firwmare update however when we call Lenovo they say that they will not offer any firmware updates for the Crucial drive since it is 'unsupported' which is not true. All I am looking for today is "WHAT SETTING OR FEATURE IS FIXED ON THE SAMSUNG SSD DRIVES WITH THAT UPDATE???". There are NO README files saying if the firmware update fixes TRIM or powersave features on teh SSD. All i need to know is what they had to fix so I can try to get Crucial to release a firmware for their MX100 drives to fix this same issue.

I just bought a Crucial M500 240GB SSD and after reinstalling windows I noticed that programs and applications freeze up for sometimes 20 seconds and this happens a lot. I have the SSD as my boot drive and the other 2 hard drives are still in my computer. Although I had them unhooked during windows install to ensure windows files only install on the SSD. I have the SSD set to AHCI mode in the bios which is what I heard you have to do if you want trim to work. I am very new to SSDs and have no idea what's causing all this freezing but it is very annoying.

Hi, Almost 2 years ago I purchased a Crucial M500 240GB SSD to place into my slow Acer Aspire 5749 on the advice of this forum which completely transformed the machine. The Aspire 5749 has now become redundant due to water damage but the SSD remains in working order - its has been used and tested in an older Aspire 5732z. However, when I install it into the Travelmate p257-M which has replaced the 5749, it won't boot. I get BSOD on startup and then an option to launch system repair upon restart but that doesn't fix anything. I have updated the Crucial SSD to the latest firmware. Does anyone know of a solution? Kind regards.

I have a ThinkPad X201 running Window 7, I have not make any changes to the computer hence all the hardware are original.Except when I recently bought a Crucial M500 SSD, First I use MiniTool to clone the HD to the new SSD. After cloning, I install the SSD into the X201. Window appear to boot up normally with no error message. But soon I notice the Window is not working correctly. For example Window no longer recognize Microsoft published program. For a simple thing like pressing Del to delete a file. A UAC warning will come on to asked if I will allow delete, exe from an unknown publisher to make changes to the computer. Then I tried to repair window by downloading the Window 7 ISO file from microsoft site and proceed to do an upgrade of Window, The upgrading process took quite a while. When everything appear to have finished an error message came on to say "Window setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware". So I gave up on cloning and try to make a clean install of Wondow on the SSD by using the Recovery DVD that came with the computer. The installation process gone through but at the end it ask me to put in the supplementary disk which did not come with the computer. Hence I could not complete the process. I am at a total loss, what can I do next to get it to work?

Answer:could not get Crucial M500 SSD to work in Thinkpad X201

Hello,

A couple of things you can try:

Repeating the disk cloning operation with the Crucial M500 SSD installed inside the the ThinkPad X201, and the original source drive attached via an external USB adapter. For some reason (perhaps how the ThinkPad BIOS handles disk geometry translation), disk cloning operations seem to work best when the target drive is first installed inside the ThinkPad.
When prompted for a Supplemental Disc during the recovery process, just select "No" or "Cancel" (I do not recall what the dialog says exactly). For some reason, the recovery DVDs sometimes prompt for this, even when not required for that particular recovery. At that point, it should prompt you to reboot the system. Go ahead, eject the disc, let the X201 restart, and see if it starts up as it normally would after a fresh install of the operating system.

Let us know how things go with either option you try, and we'll take it from there.

I just upgraded to a crucial M500 SSD and went back to windows 7 for driver compatibility reasons. this fixed my last issue which was the freezing I mentioned in my last thread. With windows 7 that issue is gone. I now have an issue where the boot time is exceedingly long. It sits at the starting windows screen for more than a minute. After that windows boots up and zips right along like you would expect from an SSD. I have the following hard drive configuration.

1. SSD (windows boot drive)
2 1.5TB files drive
3. 500GB Old windows drive formatted storage for fraps recordings and extra games

Let me ask you a few questions, for starters what kind of raid format do you use ?
1.Do you have any particular programs booting up while windows is coming on ?

2.Is this yours: Newegg.com - Crucial M500 960GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT960M500SSD1

If not link us your version of the drive.
Your drive setup is similiar to mine only thing is I don't use ssd's mostly for quick fragmentation problems.

It would be good if you could use western digital blue for windows 7.
Reason why I say this it has very good boot time and reliability.
It takes my hard drive about 5-20 seconds to boot windows 7 pro and windows 8 pro.

I would take your seagate and put the recordings on it and nothing more than that.

Hello all. I've got a user who's T430s just goes to the ThinkPad logo and then after several seconds moves on but never gets to loading Windows. We just get 2100: Detection Error on HHDO. I had another T430s so I swapped drives. Now the T430s that wasn't booting boots fine. So I assumed the hard drive was going but the odd thing is that the 2nd T430s which now has the "problem drive" in it doesn't give me the 2100 error. The catch is the drive is encrypted with BitLocker and no combo of passwords or finger swipes will let us proceed. So my dilemna is I can't tell if this drive is bad because I can't see it. I ran Lenovo Bootable Diagnostics and they said they couldn't scan because it was encrypted. I put the drive in an external dock and connected it to a Windows 10 system and the drive doesn't show up under the Bitlocker to Go section. Is there any way to tell if this drive is completely done? It would be great to get data off of it but I can't seem to find a way. Everything I find seems to require a drive letter and this drive has none. Even booted into a live Ubuntu with the drive in the laptop and it wouldn't see it. Thanks all.

Answer:2100: Detection Error on HHDOcan

A lot of people have had this issue with perfectly good drives, and some have said they resolved it by going into setup, and then saving settings upon exit. Others have said that by pressing F12, entering the boot menu and selecting the HD will let it boot as well. Another said that by changing from SATA to Compatibility in the BIOS, restarting and then setting SATA back to AHCI will force a reset of the drive so it will boot too. Not sure if any will work for you, but you might put the drive back in the original system and give it a try (if you have not already anyway). I did see also where Amy_Lenovo posted in the same thread that a fix was found for the X250 ThinkPads, but that it required the system be sent into Lenovo.

Answer:Think Pad X230 HDD Detection Error 2100

I had this with a Crucial M5M mSATA SSD, and the solution was to turn the machine off for 20 minutes with no battery and and no power connected, then try again. The drive failed totally about 2 weeks later though.

Hi there,I would like to fit an SSD to my Thinkpad W530 (2438-2KU) to get a boost in speed and increase in storage capacity. At the moment I am thinking of a Crucial M500 480GB mSATA Internal SSD (http://images.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=F28BD783A5CA7304). I'd leave my 500GB hard drive installed and mainly use it for data storageWill the M500 fit my laptop? Any gotchas or anything else to be aware of? I'll probably be re-installing the O/S onto the SSD once the new drive is installed.Richard.

Answer:mSATA drive for W530 - Crucial M500 480GB

Hello.

Yes, the M500 will fit your WWAN slot, but be aware that it will only achieve SATA-II speeds. Only the main HD and ultrabay controllers in the W520/W530 are SATA-III. Performance-wise, you'd be better off getting a SSD for your main HD slot and relocating your 500GB platter drive to an Ultrabay caddy. It can be hotswapped out for the CD/DVD drive if you require it.

Cheers.

I just installed a brand new Cruical M500 256GB mSata on the W530, under the keyboard. i had to re-route two wires which were in the place where the mSata card goes. When I rebooted windows 8.1, And go into the Disk managment app, I dont see the drive. I only see the existing 2 drive: Disk 0 = 2.5" Crucial M550 1TB SSDDisk 1 = Removable (D I went into the bios settings (I think it uses EFI, as getting into bios is very very diffcult) but there is only one setting - something like AHCI mode. Any ideas how to get the Laptop to see the mSATA drive so I can format it and use it? i have previously installed the Crucial m400 mSATA on a W520 and had no such issues. The msata card is 100% seated correctly, and the securing screw in place. I just took it out and put it back in again. did help. Thanks,

Answer:W530 cant see crucial 256GB M500 mSATA - is invisible

Found the issue. It seems that windows 8 Doesn't actually shut down when you say shut down - it hibernates. I had to disable windows 8 "fast startup". Then after a shutdown, then I could see the drive and format it. I hate windows 8.

I have a Lenovo T420-4177 and a Crucial M500 self-encrypting drive, Win 8.1 Pro. I have made sure that the BIOS is up to date, that TPM is turned on and verified it is v1.2 AND initialized, the BIOS is set to boot ONLY to UEFI OS (i.e. CSM is disabled), BitLocker is configured in Local Group Policy to use hardware encryption. Why is it then that when I try to use BitLocker that it will only use software encryption??? Google has been less than cooperative in providing me clear "how-to check UEFI version" results. Here's my post on Crucial's forum:http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/Windows-8-doesn-t-use-hardware-encryption-with-M5... Here's a related post: http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/Cannot-enable-hardware-Bitlocker-Encryption-on-M5... I've also checked these articles:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831627.aspx http://www.anandtech.com/show/6891/hardware-accelerated-bitlocker-encryption-microsoft-windows-8-edr... http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD-Knowledge/System-Requirements-for-M500-Hardware-E...

I also have a T420 and suspect as you do that the UEFI on this machine is not recent enough to support UEFI 2.3.1. Not sure where to find out for sure. I don't know of any utlities that can determine this information. Lenovo can you help? Does the T420 support UEFI 2.3.1?

My W530 has just started displaying the detection error, however, Windows can still see the device, as well as the BIOS

Windows shows it as the actual hard drive model.

however, the BIOS shows it as DISK.

does this mean the drive is failing(again), or is it the SATA controller?

Hi, I bought my P50 like 4 months back and suddenly it has started to throw this error when the machine is starting up."2100: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)". I have run the tests in BIOS mode and all the tests got passed. I have faced the error 2 times now and after keeping the machine down for few minutes and switching back on resolved the issue. But I can't be sure it will solve the issue next time.Just bit of a background to the error. I have started my machine this morning, and from Windows login screen machine sudddenly restarted saying "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION". And on the restart I got the error. I do have a feeling that this not related to actual hardware, but firmware etc. Any ideas would be highly appreciated. Thanks.Jaliya

I have a T420 and tried a Crucial M500 but kept getting the 2100 detection error. I'm wondering if the mSATA version would be OK or if this problem is present on both the main SATA bay as well as the mSATA connection? Has anyone had this error when booting an SSD from the mSATA port? Thanks!

Answer:Has anyone had the 2100: detection error on the mSATA port?

I run a Crucial m4 mSATA 256GB in my T420.

As I mentioned in your other thread, I saw the error once or twice - IIRC on the very first power-up and again after a firmware update. Once the SSD finished its internal housekeeping, it never happened again.

Hello,I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (Type 20A7) and after 14 months of use now, I got the error "2100 detection error on ssd0 (M.2)".I saw different topics about that kind of error and Lenovo really disappointed me -_- (they were different years I wasn't purchasing Lenovo anymore and this has been a sad welcome back).I saw some solutions about the Lenovo X1 Carbon 1st Gen, but I didn't find anything about how to fix it on the 2nd Gen. I read this https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082504 and I would like to know it there is a way to manually install that firmware without have access to the operating system. I was running Debian 8 on my laptop when that error occurred and I have bunch of important data that I need to recover!I know, it's bad not have a backup and I usually do it, but I never had any problem with any HDD/SSD on all the laptops I had (a lot) and being that an expensive laptop, I couldn't imagine that was gonna happen (and just after 14 months of use). I tried running a live GNU/Linux distro to check if it was able so see the SSD to make a backup, but nothing...I put the SSD in a SATA adapter, connected to different laptops running Windows 7, but nothing. I really hope the SSD is not dead at all. Anyone able to help me? Both about to fix that error and have my system back or recover my data from the SSD that is not recognized/seen on any system. Thanks! p.s: the SSD is a MZNTD512HAGL-000L1

Answer:X1 Carbon 2nd Gen - 2100 detection error on ssd0 (M.2)

Hi and welcome, X1CarbYuu've linked the proper page regarding issue.Another ones, with details (note, fw package has different file name, I can't confirm whether its content differs from the page in your post):http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-...There is readme file.I searched on the Samsung support site information about the recent fw available, but faced a bit difficulties.Regarding the fw update on the system w/o Windows installed I have the only suggestion to use bootable media like LiveUSB, Windows To Go, WinPE 5.0. Probably fw update tool will work.I'm worry you weren't able to connect SSD to the external laptop. I hope you didn't perform to boot that laptop from current Samsung SSD. Perhaps there was some incompatibility between BIOS, adapter, SSD fw, drivers.

Good day dear forum members! My brand new X1 Carbon arrived fully loaded......with errors. Right out of the box it hit me with a BSOD (CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED). The system boots from the second attempt, but BSOD pops up every 5-10min. All drivers/BIOS updated. 1TB Samsung nvme ssd (PM961 f/w3L0QCXY7) seems to be using a driver dated 6/21/2006 and so does its "Standard NVM Express Controller". Samsung nvme driver cannot be installed because it claims there's no suitable ssd, Samsung magician doesn't recognize the drive either, however, it is properly identified in the device manager. Any suggestions before I ship this back..? Any help appreciated.

I have an issue with a Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch Windows 8. It has a 512GB SSD. (Believe its Samsung) Earlier today the computer frooze while saying plug in your charger, so I had to hold down the power button to do a forced shutdown. Upon turning it back on I got this error after hanging on the Lenovo logo for a good five minutes. Error: 2100: Detection error on SSD0 (M.2) The SSD is not visible anywhere not in BIOS or anywhere else. I've tried reseating it however it doesn't help. The BIOS is upto date, any I'm unable to update the SSD Firmware as I cannot get onto Windows as per the instrutions here - http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082504 1. I cant update firmware for the SSD as I cant get onto Windows2. The BIOS firmware is the latest 3. I've taken the SSD out and put it back in4. Reset BIOS settings5. Disconnected Battery and left it for an hour I'm panicing as all my data is on there, I assumed it was safe as it's SSD. Please can anyone assist?

Answer:X1 Carbon - SSD Failure? Error 2100: Detection error on SSD0 (M.2)

Sorry for a 2500 GBP laptop I'd expect better really. This is the SECOND X1 Carbon I've had out of 4 to fail me with the SSD. I've lost all my data (Yes I know I should have backed it up) that I'll never be able to recover. Ultimately I've given up on the brand of Lenovo, my company who supplies exclusively Lenovo hardware to our customers are now switching to Dell as a direct result of the lack of support and poor hardware/firmware design. Just ordered 2X Dell XPS 13's as a replacement for my less than 6 month old Lenovo X1 Carbon, never thought it would come to this but the lack of support, knowledge and consitant hardware failures has left me no choice, I can't operate or do my work on an Lenovo X1 Carbon, fingers crossed the Dell will be better as it cant get any worse than Lenovo. To anyone who has Google'd the error and found this thread some cold facts; According to my resources this error can be caused if the system is not shutdown, BSOD or sudden power loss. If it doesn't resolve itself, there is a good chance it wont. Cycle the computer numrous times, let the battery run flat. Try it a few more times. Reset the BIOS, Update the BIOS. Prevention is better than cure, supposedly updating the SSD Firmware might have prevented this from happening in the first place.Lots of reports that this is an issue with BIOS and Firmware issues that result in an early death. I can confirm this having happened twice to me on different generation and model... Read more

Have the same issue. Just started happening after ~4 months of use. Have you found any resolution to the error? Did Lenovo replace your X1?

Hi all, Upgraded the SSD to Crucial M500 480gb SSD, but the drive only works at about 1/2 speed - 250mb/s read, 240mb/s write. Intel RST indicates transfer speed is 3 gb/s (sata 2). Anyone have any ideas on how to ensure it works at sata 3 speeds? Thanks!
