Question: How to turn on both LAN and Wireless T430

I need both my LAN and wireless enabled at the same time. Can I turn them both on using Think Advantage? I believe our IT dept has uninstalled any ThinkAdvantage software. Which ThinkAdvantage software should I download and where do I turn both the wireless and the LAN on at? Thank you

Preferred Solution: How to turn on both LAN and Wireless T430

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:T430 can not turn-up

Hi, naymyooo

If nothing occurs (no lights, no sounds, etc.) when you press the power button, then I think your systemboard has gone bad and it will need to be replaced. If in warranty, I would recommend giving Lenovo Support in Singapore a call at 1-800-415-5529 and get a repair set up.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi there, about four weeks ago I bought a refurbished T430 (2349). Everything was fine the overall quality was very good for a used product. This morning when I disconnected the Notebook from the Power Adapter at Home (Original 20V, 90W) there was something unusual: the LEDs on top lighted up and there was definitely a sound coming from the HDD (the usual start/stop sound/click).I thought that it was strange (since it was shut down like usual over night) but I since was in a hurry I took the ThinkPad and went to work.Later today I tried to start it at my office and literally nothing happened. (Not without the Battery, not with the battery, not while connected to a dock)(+ I use another original Power Adapter (Original 20V, 60W) at work).I presume that somehow an overvoltage fried the board when I disconnected the ThinkPad it this morning, I did nothing any different then I did the last four weeks.I have no hope that it cane somehow be fixed and the RMA request is already on its way.But if anyone has had similar problems or some tips I might try, I am happy to do so. but Since I am an IT-Guy myself I have the feeling that there is nothing I can do (beside hoping that the RMA Request will be successful )

Hello, is it possible to set the keyboard illumintaion that it turns off when I dont use the keyboard for X minutes? The illumination is really annoying, when watching something. And turning it off manually is really bothering. Dell Vostro has it, is it also possible on thinkpads? Thanks!

Answer:Auto turn off backlight keyboard T430

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I would like to inform you that as of now, there is no such settings available to turn off the backlit keyboard after a certain period of inactivity. The backlight automatically turns completely off only when the screen goes off or when the machine goes to sleep. I personally think that what you have suggested would be an incredibly useful one and our engineers will take it as a great suggestion to implement the same.

Best regards,
Mithun.

My Lenovo T430 won't turn on. I am on an engineering trip in Liberia right now and am trying to get it working. It worked last night. I plugged it in when we had electricity last night and this morning, it is not turning on.  I unplugged the battery and AC adapter and drained the excess charge. It still did not turn on. However, when I put the battery back in and then plug in the AC adapter, the battery led blinks green 3 times, blinks a 4th long time, blinks once more and shuts off. The first three blinks could correspond to the normal AC battery status indicator. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello, just bought a T430 here and I'm loving it. The keyboard is comparable to any desktop and the portability and battery life fit my needs perfectly. With the old T420, you could adjust the settings so Fn + F3 would turn the screen off without putting the computer to sleep. However, with the new chicklet style keyboard (which is now 6 rows instead of 7), lenovo seems to have made Fn + F3 lock the computer. I can't seem to find any way to turn the screen off without affecting active downloads/music/etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo T430 Screen Won't Turn On and not booting u...

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad T430 is not powering on.
Check if it's something to do with your AC adapter or battery. Insufficient power might cause some of those issues as well. Take the battery out and try to power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Try starting the laptop using good known AC adapter and battery.

Try connecting the device to an external monitor and check if it displays properly.

Please do let me know the happenings!

Best regards,
Mithun.

First time posting, and not very educated when it comes to computers so bear with me. My screen cracked today on my T430. It still had image on the screen but very distorted. I have a working backup T430. I pulled the screen out of the back up and put in my main comp. My main will boot up (you can even hear the windows jingle but the screen had no power. I then tested both the good screen and cracked screen on the backup T430 and both lit up fine. But neither screen will work on the main T430. i then switched the cable that goes from the motherboard to screen but still same situation, works fine on the back up but not main. I hooked it up to my TV through the HDMI cable and I get the display/homescreen on the TV, and I can use the laptop like that. One thing I did notice is that when I boot the laptop up or shut it down there is a very very very slight change in the screen darkeness. I only notice this because the sun was behind me and shining on the screen. When I noticed this it had the craked screen installed. I tried to adjust the screen brightness with the laptop running but it didnt change anything Do you guys/gurls have any input or solutions? Thanks in advanced

When I boot up my T430 that's attached to a docking station with external keyboard, monitor and mouse, the NumLock key is off by default before login. I looked at the BIOS and there's nothing there to control the state of the NumLock key. How do I configure the system to turn the NumLock key on by default before I log in. Company support thought a registry key would do the trick but the registry doesn't get parsed until the bootup process actually starts; I'm looking to control the state of the NumLock before the bootup process starts. I'm guessing the assumption was that because laptops (generally) don't have numeric keypads, you can't use one. Thanks for the help.

Answer:T430 with docking station... how to turn numlock on by default before boot

Hey there MikeStarrWriter,

Unfortunately I think you are right, it seems you will be unable to configure it so that the NumLock Key is on by default since it isn't an option. This is most likely the case because your machine doesn't have a numpad/10-key. Sorry to the bearer of bad confirmation.

Hi, My T430 Integrated Camera was working fine. But as of yesterday, when I tried to Gmail Video Chat, the green light no longer turns on. Fn+F6 --> It says "The Device is used by another Application". And the setting is on Private. When I click on Public, it automatically goes back to the Private setting. No other applications are running. Integrated Camera is listed under Device Manager and the check says that the latest driver is installed. Going to the Camera application (I'm on Windows 8), all I see is a black screen, again no green light. Any ideas? I don't think it has to do with the driver. Thanks.

Answer:T430 Camera - Working previously, now green light doesn't turn on

Hi Huikat, I had the same issue.. turns out that it was just a loose connection between the cable and the camera. However, it may be a case that the integrated camera has gone bad. Call Lenovo Support and request a replacement if your laptop is within warranty. Thanks, Joe

Hi there, I bought a thinkpad T430 in Jan., 2013. It works well except the big issues on wireless. It has the following symptons: 1. the laptop is on and I am surfing the internet, suddently the wireless is gone, meanwhile, other laptops can still connect the internet. reboot is the only solution to this problem, and sometimes two reboots were needed. 2. the power adapter is connected to the laptop, I turned the laptop into sleep and have a break. When it is woke up later, the wireless is gone, two solutions to this:    a) if I am lucky, I can just disable and enable the wireless adapter then it works again;    b) if not, I need to reboot the laptop at least once. 3. I use my laptop in my office and home, every time when I arrived home or office from the other, I need to turn on and reboot the laptop immediately to let the wireless work as it does not work at all when the laptop is turned on at the first time. I did some research on this and noticed some guys said this is a hardware issue. The only solution is to mail it back to lenovo and let technicians replace the wireless adapter. I bought it fourty days ago, can I still return it. I love thinkpad all my used laptops were thinkpads, but I really can not endure that last time you gave me a T61 with a bad pixel in the screen and this time with a bad wireless adapter.

Hi, I just got a new to me T430 and am very happy so far.  I have 8gb ram and 256gb samsung SSD on the way! I would like to upgrade the card to an intel 6300.  I notice the n2200 is installed now with 2 antenna.  I looked in the chasis and it appears there is a white wire not used tucked by the ram - would this be the third antenna?  I assume it is but wanted to ask.   Do I need any specific 6300 for this unit? Thanks in advance!

Answer:T430 wireless card upgrade

Well I had forgotten the golden rule -  RTFM!   I was surprised to learn a manaul exisited - my first lenovo laptop. So, yes Lenovo was smart enoght to think ahead on this - from the manual: "For models with a wireless LAN card that has three antenna connectors, plug the gray cable into the mainconnector, the black cable into the auxiliary connector, and the white cable into the last connector." I have read some negative comments on the 6300 now I am wondering about the 7260AC....  I see the wireless update includes that driver from Lenovo and lists the T430 as a supported model. Anyone nave any luck with this card?  This has some appeal it would bring bluetooth connectivity as well. Thanks in advance -

I'm starting this new thread to focus discussion on symptoms of wireless drops originally reported as 1 or 2 symtoms discussed in this thread.  The second symptom in that thread, the error 31 and yellow bang in device manager, we believe now has a solution covered in the thread.

I'm moving over all comments from the other thread which seem to relate to the wireless drops symptoms.  As you add comments on this thread, please help us keep focus on wireless dropping symptom, and let us know which system you have, which wireless card, wifi driver version, and OS that you are running.

This may be similar to the T430s discussion on Wifi found here, but we would like to keep that discussed focused on T430s which is a different system design than the standard T430 and T530, unless we can find a commonality between the two threads - perhaps a particular family of wifi cards, or other factor.

I recently purchased an intel 7260 1/2 pci express card for wireless AC and bluetooth on my T430 and obviously receivd the 1802 error saying its not approved.  I see that apparently a card needs to be on both a whitelist and represent a recognized FRU to not throw the error.  So, Does anyone have a recommendation that will work for my laptop internally?  I've already broken USB adaptor style network adapters becase they stick out to far on other laptops so I was really hoping for a PCIe version or maybe cardbus.  all I really need is a wireless AC, but bluetooth is a plus.  Any suggestions?

The system repeatedly fails to connect to the wireless network when starting. When it does occasionally connect it works well and stays connected. I have tried all the advice I can find on the forum. Device Manager reports that the wireless driver is Intel 15.10.3.2. When I check with the Intel website it reports that the driver installed is version 15.5.4.0. Why is this different from Device Manager's report? Intel offers an upgrade to 16.11.0. Is this upgrade advisable? Answer:T430 model 2347-E86 - possible to install a Wireless WAN card?

HiT430 supports wwan mini pci-e card. But Lenovo laptops will not work with Gobi 3000 HS3240, because of this model (HS3240) is manufactured for the HP laptops. So, T430 even will not boot up with that modem installed. If you want to get 3G card, purchase modem with Lenovo service p/n - a) FRU 04W3785 (it's Gobi 3000), or b) 04W3786, 60Y3297 (Ericsson H5321). I have a T430 at work that is fully connected to the company intranet and is resting in a docking station. However, even while connected to the docking station and LAN, it keeps logging into the company's wireless connection instead. If I flip the wireless switch on the side of the laptop to "off", it will then connect to the company LAN. However, the moment I flip the switch back on, it goes back to the wireless network. I've already gone into the Network and Sharing Center>Change Adapter Settings and verified that the LAN is currently the default connection. I even cancelled it as default connection and remade default connection. I've tried the usual restart, undock/re-dock, connect ethernet straight to laptop, none of which helps. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Its a dual boot by the way, Win 7 + Ubuntu 12.04.2. With Ubuntu or CentOS or Scientific Linux, the laptop gets unusually warm...The temp monitoring utility (lm_sensors) says that its at about 45 C. I get the same temp reading on Win 7 too, but somehow, the laptop just feels more warm with Linux than Win 7.As of right now, I am on Win 7 (for past 4-5) hours.....did some browsing, MS Sec Essentials did a full disk scan, I saw some youtube vids and was toying with some Perl Scripts, and the temp is at 45C, and the left palm rest is quite warm. Its warm enough that I have to stop typing every few minutes  Has anyone else noticed this issue? Is there a work around to this issue? Is there something I should worry about ? Please let me know. I installed the new updates a month ago. This problem though, has been there since a while. I searched the forum and found that another user who had a similar issue was told to upgrade the BIOS from 1.6 something to 2.50. I am running at 2.52 as shown below. BIOS VendorLENOVOReleaseDate02-14-2013BIOSG1ET92WW (2.52 )SMBIOS VersionLENOVO - 2520Video cardIntel(R) HD Graphics 4000 Card memory2,112.00 MBProviderIntel CorporationCard version9.17.10.2843 08-21-2012Sound cardRealtek High Definition Audio Driver providerRealtekDriver version6.0.1.6710... Answer:Thinkpad T430 gets significantly warm on Win 7 as well as Linux. How about a fellow T430 user ?

In my experience, Linux isn't as good with power management as Windows. 45 degrees sounds about right for a current-gen Intel processor due to Turbo Boost causing temperature spikes as you use your system normally. As for the warm left palmrest, the hard drive sits under there, so maybe the drive just tends to produce more heat. Assuming you have a conventional hard drive, give it a defrag to reduce operating stress (and hence power consumption and heat output).

I have two machines with the exact same Intel 6300 AGN wireless cards.  Both running Widowns 7 64-bit.  Both have same versions of Intel drivers installed.  The X230 sees and connects to my 5Ghz wireless network.  The T430 sees only the 2.4Ghz network.  The 5Ghz network is not even displayed in its list of available networks. The T430 sees other 5Ghz networks in the neighborhood.  Using inSSIDer I can see that the wifi card is functioning on the 5Ghz frequency as it displays 3 other nearby networks.  But I have no way to test connection since those are not my networks and are secured (as is mine). Windows also shows those neighboring 5Ghz networks in the list of available connections.  Only my own 5Ghz network is absent from both lists. Both my 2.4 and 5Ghz bands are broadcasing their SSID's.  All MAC filtering is correct and both machines are allowed on the networks.  The WPA keys are correct. I have even copied the network settings from the working X230 using the "Copy this network profile to a USB flash drive" option from the wireless network properties window and added the 5Ghz network to the T430 using the USB key.  So I know the settings are identical. I ran Lenovo diagnostics Wireless Quick Test on both machines and got identical successfull results. The only thing amusing about this issue is that the X230 wifi card was purchased from an eBay seller in China and that is the one that wo... Answer:T430 with Intel Ultimate-N 6300 wireless card cannot see 5Ghz network

After that long-winded post I solved this myself.  I went back and looked at the wireless network properties on both machines and saw that despite copying the setup from one machine to the other the settings were not identical!  On the T430 the "Enable Intel connection settings" was disabled where it is enabled on the X230.  I enabled that option and suddenly my 5Ghz network appeared and I was able to connect to it! Now I am still puzzled by this because prior to doing the "Copy this network profile..." method via USB key from the working X230 to the non-working T430 I had explicity checked that option on both machines and both were enabled.  Yet the T430 was not seeing the 5Ghz channels. Bottom line is this issue is fixed.

I have a x201 cto using 64bits Win 7. The wireless adapter is intel advanced-N 6200. However, I found my wireless always turn off suddenly and I can not turn it on anymore (even using Fn+F5) until reboot. Does anyone have same experience? Please tell me what's the problem. Many thanks

Answer:x201 wireless always suddenly turn off and can not turn on again.

Yes, i have the same issue. Though it suffices if you deactivate and activate your WLAN adapter @ networkcenter, you don't need to reboot. This happened to me a couple of times as well.

I disabled Multi-Core in BIOS so i don't have regular lags.I always keep energy saving settings to "Maximum Performance" so i don't have regular contrast issues.I deinstalled ThinkAdvantage Access Connections so i don't have random WLAN Adapter "power offs".

The old screen broke, laptop has a small dent at the top, I bought a new lcd and it's not coming on, wondering if I broke something else or is there a way to reset the motherboard? please help.

Answer:T430 bought new LCD Screen, screen won't turn on

When you break a screen, it is also common to blow a fuse on the motherboard. In that case, when you start up, you can see a very faint image on the screen if you shine a flashlight in.

Yesterday I used the Fn-F5 key to turn off the wireless radio. Today when I attempted to use the same key to turn the antenna back on, it fails to display on screen and will not turn the antenna back on. Other Function keys are working properly. I have disabled and re-enabled the card, reinstalled the drivers No change.

Fixed by reinstalling Energy Management. I had uninstalled as there seemed to be more than one energy/battery management program.

Nowadays, wireless router is a basic device at home because wireless access point (AP) is required. Sometime, a wireless repeater is also needed in a big house especially that with a big yard. Actually, without wireless router, only a Windows 7 laptop can be turned into a WiFi hotpot or a wireless repeater. Many discussions can be found online regarding how to turn Windows 7 laptop into a WiFi AP or virtual WIFI hotpot, however, the internet surfing is based on a local area connection. If wanna extend a WIFI signal to an enhanced new wireless AP, generally two wireless adapters are considered.

Here, differently, with only one wireless adapter but without 3rd-party software, we can setup a wireless repeater in a Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium laptop with only one wireless adapter. This can boost the wireless signal to smartphones, tablet computers, or other wireless devices. Also, the mobility and flexibility allow extending the signal to a yard or a garage conveniently as you want.

It is known that a virtual wireless adapter can be created with a third party software or only Windows 7 built-in commands. But in Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium, usually the virtual wireless adapter cannot be created or a hosted network cannot be started. I found a specific approach to clear the issues.

We can follow the steps (successful setup in my two Windows 7 Home laptops),

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and th... Read more

Answer:Turn Windows 7 Laptop into Wireless Repeater with One Wireless Adapter

Hi everyone... After reinstalling windows, I kept getting the "Turn on your wireless capabilty" message. I was pressing the Fn + F9 combination, yet nothing happened. I am sad to say, that lenovo has very poor driver download selection:for my model, i could download 4 different wireless adapter drivers (everything from intel to realtek). So how was i supposed to know which driver to get.... So the first thing I checked was the BIOS settings, if i had the wireless radio ON.... After downloading the correct driver... I still kept getting the same message... Checking the wireless card was not disabled in the Network diagnostics... AGAIN IT DID NOT WORK ANYWAY... The problem was not in the driver, or the BIOS, or the WINDOWS 7 SETTING. The problem was with the motherboard???bios???powermanagement??? setting I had to install the Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7.... After that it was still not working... Then I installed Power Manager for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad Key combination still not working... no wireless internet THEN I INSTALLED ThinkPad Power Management driver for Windows 7 After EVERYTHING installed, the menu came back and i could enable the WIRELESS adapter. FML...Thank you lenovo, for making this a horrible experience...  Lenovo, I am dissapoint....

Answer:WIRELESS problem SOLVED "Turn on your wireless capabilty"

i've got the same story ... i found many drivers for wireless...i've a low internet connection ..hours to download them all ... and nothing happened .... just because of power management .. thanks lenovo for 12 hours lost in this cause ...

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop runing Windows 7.

I bought this computer a year ago, and have never used my wireless card.

I'm trying to enable it, and when I go to Windows Mobility Center, the "Turn Wireless On" command is greyed out.

Under Device Manager, it indicates that my wireless card, a Realtek RTL819SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC, is working properly. I went to the driver tab and disabled it and then enabled it again just to make sure, but that didn't affect this problem.

Can anyone tell me how to enable my wireless card?

Answer:"Turn Wireless On" is greyed out for wireless card - Windows Mobility Center

Look for a switch on the front, or try something like Control and the function key with the wireless symbol on it, by pressing both at the same time. My Acer Netbook, it is Ctrl-F2, but may be different on yours.

We have a fairly new Asus laptop and for some reason we can't get the wireless to turn on any more.

It has a Function button method to turn it on and off and any time you use this button it shows the WLAN simple with a red line through it. No matter how many times you press it it does the samething.

I've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling, ran a security update for the drivers. When I go into the wireless connection and try and turn it on it shows that it has a signal (not sure what to) but a red X next to the connection in Windows 7. I can't actually see any wireless signals so I'm kind of at a loss.

A hard connection works fine and I tried rolling back to a previous version in case it was an update but that didn't help. The wife thinks the cat stepped on the keyboard and that's the only thing I can think of. Is that there is some keyboard command I need to do to turn it back on. There is no hard switch.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:Wireless won't turn on

I can't remember HOW to do this is 7, but I know that I had to do it last week when I changed a wireless password key. I had to go in to the advanced settings and find the networks. There is a list where you can change the preferred order or delete networks. Find yours and delete it.

What model Asus is it? Win 7 is making me batty lately.

You uninstalled the drivers or you uninstalled the wireless card? You should uninstall the card and reboot.

It shows connected but also a red X -- I'm going to go with removing the network from the list and re-entering the password first since that is what I had, then I'd move on to checking IP's, etc.

the wireless was working intermittenely for a while and then stopped turning on.

I press Fn + F2 and the little blue light won't come on anymore.

I looked in the control panel and clicked the broadcom wireless utility and it says "no adapters"

I tried installing the intel porset driver but it crashed on startup. I had to startup in safe mode and uninstall the driver to get it to start up again.

so . . . what next?

Answer:how can I get the wireless to turn on?

What appears in Device Manager under Network adapters? If the Intel wireless card isn't there, that's the first thing to fix. Does it perhaps appear with a yellow ? or ! under other devices? That would indicate a driver issue.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

After some house cleaning (Cleaning out temp files, ran CCleaner's registry clean, tweaking some services, updating some drivers and deleting an unused dual-boot partition) I ran into BSODs on boot. Repair, and restore points didn't help. Ended up fixing my boot problem through BCDEDIT.exe, deleted the entries then going back to a previous restore point a few hours old.

Now that my system is up and running again I can't seem to get Wireless enabled. No wireless networks are shown.
Here's a list of things I've gone through.
-Windows Network Diagnostics says to Turn on wireless capability, fails to fix it.
-Enabled in device manager and Network adapters
-Wireless is enabled in BIOS
-Wireless switch on laptop is on
-Deleted device and drivers. Reinstalled device with latest drivers.
-Checked services, WLAN AutoConfig is running
-Windows Mobility Center's "Turn Wireless On" is greyed out
-Wireless Card is shown in ipconfig, auto configuration is enabled, state shown as Media disconnected

Is there any other services I should check to make sure they are running?
Any registry entries that can be checked?

Hi

I have a Compaq Presario C70EM , it was originally Vista and had reformatted it to Xp proffesional. For some reason my wireless would not turn on , after abit of googling i think i have a missing driver , couldnt locate it in driver diagnostics although there is an "unknown device". I have tried various driver detective software to try and find this driver, but to no avail. If someone could help me sort this , wud be grateful.

Cheers

Answer:Wireless Does not turn on..Help!

Only HP/Compaq have the correct drivers for HP/Compaq computers & laptops, but they might not have XP drivers for your model if XP was not pre-installed on it at the factory.
If they don't have XP drivers for that model, you will have to re-install Vista.

Go here & select appropriate country at top right of page: Compaq - Support for Presario notebooks and desktops.

Re-check your model number as Presario C70EM is not listed.

I just a new tablet PC, the Asus R1F, and the first time it went into power save mode it turned the wireless card off, and now I absolutely cannot find a way to turn it back on. The computer is using the Intel PRO Wireless configuration tool, which tells me that 'wireless is turned off, click below to turn it back on', but there is no option to turn it on. I could only find one other page on the internet where someone was having a similar problem is here:

Answer:Wireless won't turn on

Four possibilities come to mind ...

a. The switch is broken.
b. Somehow the wireless became disabled in the BIOS (Setup). Check it.
c. The adapter is loose or not making good contact. With laptop unplugged and battery removed, remove the bottom cover over the adapter, remove the adapter, and carefully and firmly reinsert it.
d. The adapter or the portion of the motherboard to which it connects is defective.

I must of turn off the wireless connection on my HP Envy 17t laptop. How do I turn in back on?

Answer:how do I turn on wireless

mikiejo Checking the HP product page for your laptop, it does not show it coming with MacOS preinstalled -- so this is something you must have done yourself. The problem is most likely the lack of HP WiFi drivers for MacOS. HP only provides drivers and support for OS versions that come with the laptop. IF you replaced the OS version originally on the PC with MacOS, that was a bad decision on your part.

Troubleshooter says wireless capability is turned off even though when I check, the adapter is enabled and is "working properly." There is not a physical switch on the computer and no other way I know of to turn it on.
I cannot think of Anything that had happened immediately before this. I did try a system restore to before I had the problem, to no avail. I did also check a few places in the registry as suggested by a google search. I'm not positive exactly what I should be looking for but didn't see anything I thought looked unusual.
Also, don't know if it's related, but every time I restart, the BIOS opens (insydeh2o setup utility) and I have to exit out of it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey guys, i got this laptop less than 24 hours ago, and now the wireless won't turn on. When I first got it, the wireless worked for a little while, but then the switch on the front of the laptop doesn't seem to do anything, the wireless light above the keyboard will not come on. When I go to the WIFI manual diagnostics and run a test, it fails the radio test. Is the WIFI switch broken?

Answer:Y550 wireless won't turn on

Your wireless adapter probably turnoff/disable. Try to press FN + F-key that show wireless symbol. I don't remember what F-key exactly.

At first, whenever I turned on the the wireless card externaly, it just didnt work at all. Now it gives me the BSOD whenever i turn it on. I've ran out of ideas of how to fix the problem, any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I have a Toshiba laptop, when I turned it on today I had a BSOD with an error related to Logitech driver. Uninstalled the Logitech driver and all was well, except that I no longer had wireless access. The system implies that the wireless adapter is not functioning.

Pressing FN-F8 does not turn anything on or off. I've updated to the latest driver from Toshiba.

I have no idea what to do next. And my desktop computer, as of this morning, no longer recognizes its hard drive. Not a good day technologically.

This laptop is running Windows Vista Home Premium. I've just installed a slew of updates as the computer was dormant for about 18 months.

The function key shortcut to turn the wireless on "Fn + F10" will not work. I have tried going into device manager and enabling/disabling but that will not work.

Running Intel's Manual Wifi Diagnostics test, it fails on the 'radio test' phase.

I've googled this problem already and tried some fixes but nothing has worked yet.

Hi, I have a R61i with WinXP Pro SP3. The wireless network ( Intel 3945ABG) was working just fine until today when it suddenly stopped working. The network adapter is listed in the devices list but the system says it is turned off and I should slide the network switch to the on position. Except it doesn't have a hardware switch. When I try Fn+F5 it simply says "Unable to change power state" and to update the driver. I have installed the latest driver but no luck. The system sees the adapter but it thinks it is turned off. Any ideas how to fix this??

Hello. I just recently ran in to an extremely frustrating problem with my laptop. I have an asus laptop, it's one of the gaming models. Just recently, it has shown that wireless connectivity is turned off whenever i boot up my computer. The thing is, though, that the manual switch to enable wireless connectivity is switched on. Whenever i attempt to switch it off, then back on, the graphic that pops up on your screen showing that wireless connectivity is disabled pops up even when i switch it on. It does the same exact thing when i use fn + f2, only the graphic saying that it's disabled pops up every time i press it, and wireless connectivity stays disabled no matter what. I have absolutely no idea what to do, this literally just happened out of no where when i booted up my computer yesterday.

Answer:Wireless Connectivity Will NOT Turn on

Hi,

You could try updating drivers for the adapter and for Hotkey/manual switch?

Also couldn't you just do a system restore from the day before or as close to as possible as it only happened yesterday?

Dan.

I cannot turn on my wireless radio. My kids were using the laptop within arms reach playing Wizard 101 when it lost connection. It did not appear to be a hardware issue since the laptop was just sitting on the table at the time, but I am not ruling it out. I uninstalled the hardware and reinstalled with no luck. I ran a Hijack This log as follows:EDIT: HJT log removed, no indication of malware, HJT logs not to be used for system troublehooting of system issues, logs not permitted in Vista forum ~ Hamluis. Please let me know what I need to do to isolate the problem. When I hardwire into the router, I have no problems. Also other wireless devices do not have problems connecting. I try to turn on the wireless radio and it never seems to turn on. I changed some settings to not allow the radio to be turned off, but that did not help either. Please let me know what I need to do. Thank youEdit: Sorry the computer is a Lenovo laptop with Vista Home Premium SP2. Pentium dual-core T4200 @2GHz, 3GB RAM. I do not appear to be having any other problems. It could be hardware, but I am having a hard time figuring it out.

how to turn on\off wireless\bluetooth?on my small sony viao with Windows 7, there was an internal switch in the lower right hand corner of the screen and if you click on it you have wi-fi and bluetooth both with an on/off switch. Since I was not using my wi-fi, I slid the wi-fi into off position and later that day, I wanted to use wi-fi and the icon that was in the lower left hand corner of the screen was gone and for the past two days I have been trying to find it! every troubleshoot attempt tells me to turn on wireless capability but has never shown me "how to" turn on the wireless capability.there is a physical switch to turn on and off wireless below the wireless light but it does not work in any way now. Someone please help.

Answer:how to turn on\off wireless\bluetooth

Check Device Manager too see if it's a driver problem (you'll see an error symbol in the "Network Adapters" category if it's a driver problem). If it shows an error, re-install the wireless driver. You can download it from the Sony Vaio support website. This is the US website: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/selec...Or for European countries, go here: http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computi...

Guys, my keyboard it not working.

There is a new one on order.

But to turn on my wireless I have to hold down the 'fn' key and also 'f2' as the keyboard is not working is there any other way of turning the wireless card on?

Thanks

Answer:Turn on wireless without keyboard

On-screen keyboard perhaps? I see it has a Fn key. Type without using the keyboard (On-Screen Keyboard).

Yup, just tried it and when you you click on Fn, the F1 through F12 keys are shown, so it should work.

Answer:I cannot turn on my wireless adapter using (fn + f12) a red ...

You may have the action keys disabled in the BIOS. Try tapping the F12 key without the Fn key. When looking in the Device Manager for the wireless adapter you should expand the network adapter section. That is where it should reside if it is recognized as present by the operating system It always helps if you identify your notebook with its product key when asking questions that may involve hardware.

The OS seems to have turned off my wireless card when powerran low. It appears that the card is working properly according to the networking control panel item. How do I turn connectivity back on?

Answer:Turn on Wireless Connectivity

You wireless card is probably set to sleep on inactivity.

To reconnect, go to Start > Run, type cmd. Now type ipconfig /renew.

If that doesn't work, try ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew

right-click on the wireless connection, choose the power Management tab and uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Also uncheck the second box also.

The best answers are directly in the Help and Support area. Go to Start > Help and Support and type in laptop power.
