T440p WWAN connection GOBI 5000

Question: T440p WWAN connection GOBI 5000

Good morning all. I recently installed a GOBI 5000 WWAN card for AT&T into my new Thinkpad T440p. I downloaded the driver package from the appropriate Windows 8.1 matrix and the computer crashed (blue screen DRIVER_POWER_SAVE) and then restarted. The driver appears to have been installed, as the device manager shows the following entry under networking adapters: Sierra Wireless EM7355 Qualcomm GOBI 4G/LTE/HSPA+/EVDO Also, under the networking portion of the Metro style settings page, the AT&T Broadband modem shows up, and with information regarding the IMEI, IMSI, which I forwarded to AT&T, so as far as they are concered my preexisting Data plan is current with the modem's IMEI number.. Still no luck with connecting. There was mention of Lenovo Broadband Mobile Activation Utility which I found elsewhere on Lenovo's but upon lauching the installer, it says that the current card is not supported. Overall, not sure what to do to get this thing connected to Mobile Broadband, also not sure if incomplete driver installation could be the culprit. I am going to call Lenovo support to see what they can do, will update here.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T440p WWAN connection GOBI 5000

Just got off with Lenovo Tech Support. They mentioned that theThinkPad GOBI 5000 Mobile Broadband - AT&T GOBI 5000 WWAN card, Part number: 0C52886 using Sierra Wireless EM7355 - GOBI 5000 software (ghwp14ww.exe), version 3.4.1308.3909 as of 13 DEC 2013 may not be compatible with Windows 8.1 which is what I am running currently. I will check on when the updated driver package appears with compatibility for Windows 8.1 and post here, they mentioned that it should be pushed via Lenovo System Update, so I guess I will stay tuned.

Will the new AT&T Gobi 5000 work with the T530?  Not that it should matter but the innards include an i7-3520M, 16GB 1600MHz, and a 256GB 840 Pro.  I'd opt for the 5000 rather than the 4000 if I knew it was compatible.  Any advice?

We received 2 brand new X1 Carbon (type 20A7) models and neither have been able to detect the Gobi 5000 WWAN card (Sierra Wireless EM7355, Lenovo Part# 0C52902.)  The X1 Carbon's are running the latest drivers (including BIOS update), Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1- it doesn't matter: They will not detect the WWAN card in the WWAN slot. Tried 2 different WWAN cards straight out of the box from Lenovo (these happen to be the Verizon variants, I don't have any AT&T ones handy) and it's like it doesn't even exist. Yet I can remove either Gobi 5000 card and install it into a T440s and it comes up without any issue. I've tried taking a working and activated Gobi 5000 card out of a T440s and putting it into the X1 Carbon, yet the X1 Carbon refuses to recognize the device exists in Device Manager. I spent about an hour on the phone with Lenovo tech support who ultimately told me my question was "Out of scope" and something they would not handle. The tech even agreed with my frustration that it's listed right on the **bleep** Lenovo product site: "Mobil [sic] Broadband: Sierra Wireless 7355 - Gobi 5000" and couldn't explain why A) It wasn't working orB) Why Lenovo feels a feature listed on their own marketing materials was "out of scope" for support. She also confirmed the part number is exactly the same and the T440s and the X1 Carbon use the identical part. The tech ultimately speculated that some type of magical "system board upgrade"... HiI recently came by a HP GOBI 2000 wwan cardThis exact model: NEW HP Gobi2000 HSUPA 2G 3G WCDMA WWAN UMTS Wi Fi Card GPS UN2420 I know this might be a long shot, but are there any workarounds to getting such a card to work in a W530?I tried pluggin it in, and whereas the first driver installs, the "Lenovo broadband activation" fails, the card shows up with a question mark in device manager, and troubleshooting it in "adapter settings" states that "there might be a problem with the driver"I know that the chipset should be supported, so what is the problem here? Driver signing? Or Bios whitelist?Any help much obliged

Answer:gobi 2000, wwan not detected - non-lenovo GOBI 2000

Hi, eyeland

Do you have a SIM card inserted in the machine? If not, this will be needed for WWAN access. Also, which version of Windows are you running, and what drivers did you download to get the card to work?

Thanks in advance,Adam

Where can I buy a unlocked GOBI 5000? The only ones I see on Lenovo.com is $200 for either the Verizon or AT&T brands.. I need one that works with T-mobile

Answer:Where to buy a unlocked GOBI 5000?

What region and network are you planing to use internet in? T-Mobile operates in 3 LTE frequency bands in the US - B2, B4, B12 (for B12 the company planned to start operating just in July 2014) and 3 bands in the EU - B3, B7, B20, in depends of the region and license type. But Gobi 5000 (Sierra Wireless em7355) supports only 2 bands of 6 above - B2 and B4.At the same time Sierra Wireless em7345 LTE card (another one card for the new line Lenovo notebooks) supports 5 bands of 6 above, except of B12. So, there are no advantages for em7355 if you are not planning to work in Sprint LTE network and 3g CDMA/EV-DO networks of US carriers.Supported frequency bands isn't a "locking" feature. It's a design, the set of components, filters. Purchase the card you need on shop.lenovo or altarnate resources.

Anyone know how I can get the verizon gobi 5000 to work with my T431s on windows 7.  For some reason there is no driver for the gobi 5000 that I can find and the lenovo mobile broadband activiation software only supports AT&T.   I'm at a loss. Has anyone been succesfull in getting this to work, I've got 15 laptops not one of which is working with the Gobi 5000 and Verizon.   If you have been succesful are you using Verizon Access Manager or Lenovo Access Connections?  How did you go about getting it to connect.  The furthest I've got with all my monkeying around is for Lenovo Access Connections to show Verizon but not be able to connect. Verizon's site mentions nothing of the Gobi 5000 and Lenovo's drivers dont' work,  downloading the Sierra drivers from Sierra allows the device to show in Access Connections but is still not usable.

Answer:Gobi 5000 EM7355 installation

HiPlug the red antenna cable into the jack labeled MAIN on the card, and the blue cable into the jack labeled AUX. Jack labeled GPS is for the active (!) GPS antenna, laptop hasn't it. That jack might have a voltage (depending on the internal settings), so If you'll connect any regular antenna cable, modem will be broken because of short circuit.Let me ask you: is you location Georgia in the reality? Where are you planing to use em7355 and what types of networks?

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

I cannot find a GPS signal with a Gobi 5000 card, although the Gobi website plainly says the card it supposed to broadcast a GPS signal.  Can anyone tell me how to do this?  My software (Delorme Street Atlas USA and Microsoft Streets and Trips) each say there is no GPS device,.  The software definitely finds a USB GPS device, but not the built-in Gobi GPS. The Gobi 4000 software came with GPB enabler software, but I cannot find similar software for the Gobi 5000.

Answer:Gobi 5000 card GPS doesn't work.

I have the identical problem. Lenovo tech support has no idea what to ay about it. It has been suggested that my WWAN card needs to be activated with my wireless provider in case that "turns on" the GPS, but that strikes me as patently ridiculous.  I have reference in Device Mgr to a Sierra Wireless Location Sensor, but it is not associated with a COM port, and no software seems able to find it. This is profoundly annoying.

Has anyone got this card successfully working with Verizon?? SIM is in place and ready for activation with Verizon. When I try to use the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation tool the only options listed are ATT and Other. The other option just says to call your provider. This tool worked for us previously with the x230 and there was always a Verizon activation option. Any help much appreciated!

Answer:Verizon Activation x240 Gobi 5000 EM7355

Lenovo is aware of this issue but they don't have a solution yet. We have been dealing with this problem FOR MONTHS with both Verizon and Lenovo pointing fingers at each other. Until Lenovo fixes the problem, I would advise anyone who intends to use the Gobi 5000 card with Verizon to stay away. There are obviously problems that were not caught in QA that have lingered where our support requests were swept under the rug not acknowledging any problems. For the price you pay for these laptops, you would expect them to be working out of the gate. The X240, T440s/T440 and any laptops that use the Gobi 5000 are not ready for businesses who use Verizon and have a mobile workforce. You're better off slamming your head against the wall rather than wait for Lenovo to fix the problem.

I've noticed a couple other threads regarding the GOBI 5000 WWAN card on 2014 X1 Carbon machines, so I know I'm not the only one having issues ... I have two new X1s (both 20A7), one with a Verizon GOBI 5000 and another with an AT&T GOBI 5000. The Verizon card installs fine and works, no issues there. The AT&T card has alternately: not shown up at all in Device Manager, shown up as an "unknown" object, and now after uninstalling the driver, removing the card, rebooting, re-installing the card, etc., the driver package installs successfully, but the card shows up under ports as COM4. The description is correct - system sees it as a "Sierra Wireless EM7355 ...". Naturally, Mobile Broadband Activation doesn't see the card and so won't run. In another thread someone suggested they were able to get hold of an older driver package that successfully installed; any hope of getting a link? Or better yet, an updated current driver?

After that , since I have a Ericsson F3507g, I also had to install the Ericsson drivers as well - don't know if this is relevant for yoy. I have this running on Lenovo W500 installed with Win 7 x64 build 7100 and build 7232. Hope this helps,Zorroson

Hello, I'm experiencing massive problems with the BIOS versions newer than the 1.10a release. As soon as I apply the two newer versions 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW), the WWAN device Gobi 2000 isn't listed any more in the device manager and a connection using this device isn't possible any more. The newest Access Connections states that the device isn't found.Applying the setup defaults after updating the BIOS doesn't resolve the problem. Searching the internet shows, that multiple people are struggling with this problem. As soon as I roll back to the 1.10a (6XET31WW) BIOS version, the problem doesn't exist any more. System details:* Thinkpad Model: 2876-27G* all newest thinkpad/thinkvantage packages installed* all currently available windows updates installed* Working BIOS: 1.10a (6XET31WW)* Problem causing BIOS: 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW) Regards,rotorhead

Please try this:

1. In BIOS under "Security" / "IO Port Access" disable the devices "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN" 2. Reboot 3. Shut down the machine completely. 4. Go into BIOS and enable "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN"

If that doesnīt work please uninstall WWAN-driver, Access Connection und Hot key driver, then install first the hotkey driver, AC and WWAN driver.

Answer:GOBI WWAN MC8355 3000 (60Y3257) in Chromebook X131...

HiThe reason of issue is inappropriate fw loaded to the modem by default. It's fw for Verizon, #1 in the fw images directory structue. So, presently modem is ready to work in the CDMA/EV-DO network Verizon, only. Vodafone network needs fw #0. Most of UMTS networks need fw #6 (Generic). Modem isn't locked, just fw is a cause.Further steps for the fw changing depend on the OS installed, drivers (re)installation capabilities, external media with LiveCD etc.

I have a T400 with the built in Qualcomm Gobi card that was originally sold as Verizon only.  I have ATT and didn't want to switch so I was using an external card. I noticed that the latest version of the Lenovo driver said that it added ATT support.  I figured I would give it a shot. It took a lot of installing and uninstalling but I got it to the point where it would see the tower and try to get an IP address.  I had to go into the network properties of the Qualcomm card and enable IPv4 networking to get it to work.Just posting in case this helps someone else!Getting 1.81 Mb/S down and 1.23 Mb/S up with a 161 Ping but I only have a 48% 83dbm signal

The WWAN (Gobi 2000 card) in my X100e won't connect if the card stays enabled (FN-F5) during a system boot or resume from standby.  If I leave it disabled during a reboot or standby/resume and enable it afterwards, everything seems to work fine. I'm using HSPA and I'm in an area with good signal.  The signal strength fades in/out every few seconds according to the Windows Broadband icon when it isn't working.  The signal stays solid and there are no issues if I boot the system with the card disabled initially. I'm running the latest bios (1.23) and the ThinkVantage tools have updated all the software on Windows 7 Professional.  I've loaded the BIOS defaults a few times now and Lenovo wants the unit back to replace the Gobi 2000 card. The X100e is a recent purchase from Lenovo Canada and it was ordered with the Gobi 2000 card.  Access Connections (AC) wants me to activate on Verizon (not available in Canada), but it does seem to work with a HSPA sim from a Canadian carrier... but AC always prompts to tell me that I'm roaming.  I'd like to get that fixed too. Has anyone experienced this problem?  Any suggestions?  I think it's a s/w problem but I'll ship it back to Lenovo as per their tech support. Thanks...

Answer:X100e WWAN Gobi 2000 Fails if Enabled During Boot/Resume

The X100e is now headed back to Lenovo for EasyServ warranty repair. An identical unit we bought does not exhibit this behavior at all so I'm inclined to believe it's a hardware problem.  The Lenovo phone tech's recommendation to send it in to get the Gobi 2000 card replaced appears to be correct.

I have a simple question since I'm planning to buy a new thinkpad t440p Does all models have a WWAN connection ? Resellers in my Country doesn't give any custimization options and when I've been to the shop to get it they only said that there is a sim slot under the battery does this mean that I can use mobile data as soon as I get it or what ? in the device manage I opened network adapters and I found the following list bluetooth device bluetooth device intel centrino advanced n6235Intel ethernet connection i217-lmthere is another PCI simple communication controller unidentified device the laptop has core I5 extreme vpro 500gb hdd 4gb ram

Answer:urgent: Please help with T440p WWAN

Hi,

T440p laptops do not all come with a WWAN card installed.  Most - but not all - have WWAN antennas installed but may or may not have a card.  The SIM slot is always there as it's part of the generic T440p case.

The PSREF page may help you figure this out if you can find your MT-M (machine type-model).  Otherwise post your MT-M here and someone may be able to track down the exact specs.

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

Hi. I've got a T410 and a X201 that are running Windows XP Pro with a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 adapter and wonder if there is any other software that can be used instead of Access Connections? On other Thinkpads with the Ericsson F3507g I've been using Ericsson Wireless Manager instead of AC that I found to work better. Hopefully there are some other options for the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 as well. Any advice for other software than AC would be appreciated.

Answer:X201 T410 Win XP Gobi 2000 Connection Software

You are right, access connections is a bit too US users oriented, they are just discovering the cellular connections, and they are not so used with apn and other related settings. So I searched a bit and below there is what I discovered so far. You can simply use the dialup connection, quick easy to configure and light, but you loose the signal strenght monitor, and and other advanced functions. Alternatively I tried the mobile2go sw that comes with some Vaios it works pretty well, it manages the short messages, can be used to force the connection in 2g or in 3g and so on. There's also the vanilla Qualcomm dashboard, it's clean and quick but is stuck to the USB ID of the specific manufacturers (acer, toshiba...) so a bit of tweaking to the included driver's inf is needed, or you get the messages "missing device". If you are a vodafone customer you can also use the usual VMC, is full featured but is heavy as access connections. Maybe there's also other options.

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Good day guys. Please help me to resolve this matter. I am really going crazy. My cousin gave me his old HP Elitebook 6930p laptop with Windows 7 OS. After a few days using it, I noticed that it has a built-in SIM card slot an can be used for wireless networking. So I took the advantage of using it but I have to purchase first the wwan card before I can grab it. So I ordered online for it and installed it the way I watched in Youtube tutorial. The thing is, the computer acknowledges the wwan card in the BIOS section but I does not appear in the Device manager panel. But there are weird objects appearing in it with yellow exclamation mark. I installed the necessary drivers but still no luck. Here is the screenshot  I have also upgraded my OS to Windows 10 before I did the wwan card installation. Any help guys would be highly appreciated!!! Lots of love, Jayson

This is a brand new TP T440p and I installed a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 Pro on it (licenced). I've applied all Windows updates and installed all drivers/BIOS updates from Lenovo System Update. The computer works fine, but when I put it to sleep and wake it back up, the external monitor is almost always flickering (there is a 1mm movement to left and right, line by line - I'll shoot a video, if the camera will be able to capture the movement, because it's very "fine"). Sometimes it stops after a few minutes, but most of the time I need to re-boot the computer. Also, not always, but many times the WiFi connection is lost and I can't reconnect unless I reboot the computer. This is a BIG productivity killer so I'd appreciate some help from anyone who knows what could be wrong. Thanks. Here are my system specs in detail, if it helps:http://postimg.org/image/6lht2o8ut/ EDIT: Here is a video of the screen flickering: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV38PC_a0l4Change the video to 720p and make it full screen to notice the anomaliy. Heya everyone. I am having a few problems with WWAN Gobi2000 9205. I have got an EE 15GB monthly SIM. It works fine in my Blackberry. It worked flawlessly when i first used it in my W510: I was downloading around 1GB of updates on a clean WIN 7 PRO 64 install as well as internet browsing, all over a VPN client too - it was working perfectly and had constant signal and speed. Here are the problems I am now facing after a few hours of first using it:I can sometimes find my EE network, sometime can't find it - there is an irregular pattern which makes solving this problem difficult. When I am connected it lasts a few minutes and then it stops working and then starts working again - super random. The network signal is lit up constantly in the task bar whilst this is happening. But in task manager networking tab; when it is properly working, mobile broadband connection says the link speed is 7mbs which is fine, but when the signal is not working it says 0bps but still says connected, and in the network task tray it still says i have 3 bars and Internet access.VPN no longer works correctly - it is almost always at 99% network utilization when idle.I can no longer use access connections because it has too many bugs and freezes often, the task gauge does not update so i don't know if i'm connected. I now use default windows network tray icon.I'm looking at my W510 now and it says in the task tray: I have internet access and 3 bars. What board did you have installed in the case? Is it aftermarket, or identical to the original. If you can find out the board make/model, you can dl the manual from the mfg's site and it should have a front panel wire diagram.

First off, I installed an OEM copy of Windows 7, then grabbed all the updates. I used the Lenovo driver for the WWAN card (downloaded the latest yesterday). I bought a TMobile data SIM, installed it, and got a connection I can connect to and get data from...for a while. After ~5 minutes, the connection gets very unreliable, to the point that I can't get a page of results on Google. Coverage in my area is almost perfect, so TMobile swears it's the laptop. Seeing that the driver is up-to-date, I have no other ideas.

Answer:Bad WWAN connection with H5321 GW and TMobile on an X1 Carbon

1. Be sure mobile broadband service is activated for your sim card2. Check out mobile broadband service in OS (Autoconfig WWAN or WWAN Autoconfig, sorry, as I havn't OS with GUI in English) is started3. Check out the type of connection, GSM (GPRS) or 3G (HSDPA). Find out network connection manager (with white bars) in tasks bar, right click on your mobile carrier, properties, look at the speed. Or if you installed Lenovo Access Connections right click on AC umbrella in task bar, select connection status or similar.

Hi everyone, The Broadband on my X1 Carbon (Gen 2) always fails to connect with an error message saying that "You're either out of service or SIM card not activated" while neither of these conditions are true. Oddly, SMS is working fine and I can both send and receive messages without problems. What could be wrong? How can I diagnose and fix the issue? Some more details: - The ultra-book is a Type 20A7 which came with the SIM slot but no broadband modem. At that point Access Connections showed the Broadband option greyed out. I had to call support to find out why and that's when I learned there was no modem. - Support told me to order part number 04X6038 which is a Sierra Wireless EM7355. After installing the latest driver, the Broadband option was now enabled but it still failed with the error message mentioned above. - At the wireless store I told them it was not working and they gave me a new SIM card. This time I received a welcome SMS message. i tried sending to a few numbers and replying which works. - The wireless provider took the IMEI number of the EM7355 and confirmed it was compatible which seems logical considering SMS is working. Any ideas about what to do? Thanks in advance, -Itai

Answer:X1 Carbon - Fails WWAN connection yet SMS working!

Hi again, After lots of digging, it looks like the issue is that it does not detect Canadian providers' APN automatically. Unfortunately, it does not say that, only in the details page there is an error code 43. I was digging for 4Gsupport when I found instructions on how to configure a Windows 7 phone and gave it a shot. All it took wasto add the APN number in two places, the normal Windows Connection and Lenovo Access Connections. If your WWAN keeps saying that the SIM is not activated, I hope you find this answer  - Itai

We started to deploy about 20 HP LT4111 WWAN Mobile Broadband Modules to our HP Elitebook 840 G1 laptops. The deployment has not been going smoothly and hopefully someone here can assist. Some of these laptops have been working with zero issues while others have been having the issue listed below: Sporadically, these laptops have been 'losing' the WWAN module. The Mobile Broadband option disappears from the Network Connections in the System Tray, the WWAN module doesn't appear in Network Adapters, and the WWAN module doesn't appear in Device Manager (no errors in Device Manager also). Some temporary fixes we've tried that sometimes work; restarting laptop, installing Windows Updates that are pending, updating to the latest Bios from HP's Drivers site, updating to the latest Chipset, reinstalling HP LT4111 drivers, etc. The Bios/Chipset updates may have fixed it for some of our users but the problem has returned for others. The HP LT4111 drivers that we're using are from HP's Elitebook 840 G1 drivers site.Sierra Wireless HP LT4111 Gobi 4G Drivers 5.0.1312.4027 Rev.A 13Jan2014SIM card is Verizon Wireless The only other more recent drivers I could find is this: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04633233&sp4ts.oid=5405360 . When I first established my Windows7 vpn Connection to our corporate Network I was on a WWAN-Connection through my providers HSDPA-Modem. Now when I try to reuse this vpn-Connection in a local Network or Wifi-Network its stuck to using the WWAN-Modem (which is not present at that time!) even if I try to establish a NEW vpn-Connection through Network Management Center this also gets stuck to the WWAN-Modem as you might see on the 1st screenshot.

Where it is actually frightening enough that the IP4-Adress (marked unredable on the screenshot) of the corporate vpn-Gateway is called a "dialing number" in the very dialogue.

If i'm now trying to conect t the vpn in a Wifi or LocalNetwork Environment I get only an error message, that the modem is not present as you might see on the 2nd screenshot.

On Vista the same procedure for establishing and reusing a vpn-Connection worked 100% percent well. Why did those change a thing that was working in Vista to a thing that is rubbish in the succesor?

Anyone who found a solution until today for that ?

Any coments welcome.

If you can still see this issue , can you share the VPN traces .

Steps to get traces .

1 . Open a command prompt window
2 . In the command prompt type 'netsh ras set tr * en'
3 . Repeat the use case of VPN connection
4 . open a command prompt window again
5 . In the command prompt type 'netsh ras set tr * di'
6 . Zip the 'tracing' folder ar '%windir%\tracing' , if your OS is in C drive then it will be at C:\windows\tracing and send it to me . You can e-mail me the traces at [email protected]

I have a Dell Inspiron 15, 5000 series, that came with Windows 8.1 on it. I upgraded to Windows 10 and the ethernet connection started dropping out, giving messages that the cable is not connected, when it is. I had installed all the driver updates from Dell's site, including all the firmware and BIOS updates. According to the Dell site, the laptop has supposedly been tested to function with Windows 10.
I have disabled the card, then renabled it, but still no success. I have tried rolling back to Windows 8.1 and the ethernet connection functions just fine. I tried upgrading to Windows 10 again, but the ethernet connection does not function even after reinstalling all the drivers from Dell. Hi Iīm using Swedish Telenor for mobile services and have experienced stable mobile internet access with fully working VPN and outlook connectivity for years - using T63p, T510 and now T520. WLAN and Ethernet cable working fine with outlook. When on mobile internet, I have good internet access and VPN works fine, but the outlook-exchange communication doesnt work. I tried for a couple of days with another external modem (USB-connected) and everything was working well. I have installed all necessary software using Lenovo System Update. I have tried uninstalling drivers for the Ericsson modem and starting from scratch with fresh drivers from Lenovo. Nothing helps. I just got the T510 replaced becuase of other problems with high frequent sound and blue screen of death and othe peculiar behaviour - and now this. Any ideas?

All our Lenovo T420s and X220 laptops with Ericsson F5521gw and vpn-client doesn't work ok with Outlook. They can receive mails ok, but sending mails just hang them in Outlook's outgoing folder. Only one mail manages to be send when vpn- and outlook connection has just been established, other outgoing mails may be hanging for tens of minutes and get delivered randomly one by one. Netstat -a shows that laptops connection to Exchange server's epmap port (rpc135) goes to time_wait state and in the same time pinging Exchange server replies ok. Ericsson driver is ver 6.5.1.5 and firmware R3B01. We have tested also with older Ericsson drivers and firmware. No luck. We have tested to same "F5521gw" laptops with several different usb hsdpa dongles, with wlan cards and lan cards and also with other Lenovo laptops which have built-in Qualcomm Gobi and Ericsson F3507g hsdpa-modules. With all other network connections Outlook works fine, only Ericsson F5521gw is causing us gray hair. We would really appreciate if someone has any clue how to solve this problem.  btw. Operating system is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and our hsdpa service provider is Finish Elisa.

jwid8 wrote:  wireless abg, with sierra wwan enabled (ev-do with verizon). my question is, does this capable of using hsdpa-based broadband from my cellular provider? does ev-do equal to hsdpa? No.   The Telstra EV-DO service was discontinued in Australia from February 2007... however, the Verizon EV-DO card would not have worked on the Australian  EV-DO service in any case due to different technical standards. You will need either a 3G PCMCIA card or a 3G USB device to connect to any of the Australian 3G data networks with your X60.... however, be aware that the Telstra NextG network is the only Australian WWAN service that has true national coverage as well as offering good operational reliablity. Cheers, Bill

Hi Guys, I've got a Lenovo ThinkPad X61s 7669-3KG  L7500(1.6GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm HD, 12.1in 1024x768 LCD, Intel X3100, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, Intel Turbo Memory, 4c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32 which is a non-WWAN laptop, although it has a built-in slim card slot. Now, I'm wondering if this particular notebook can be upgraded to WWAN? If yes - which parts must I buy?Do I have to have only 3G modem card or any additional antennas or slots? Please let me know.Radek

Answer:X61s-non WWAN upgrade to WWAN

It really depends on if your system has antennas for WAN.  If so, there will be two wires that look like the ones plugged into the wireless LAN card except they will be marked one red and one blue.  If you have them, you can look in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the part numbers of the cards for this system.

I custom ordered my X200 and it got delivered yesterday. When you go to the X200 customizing, it already shows that it comes with AT&T 3G. Anyways, I call tech support yesterday, and they were useless. They couldn't even find my order in the system. I was on the train, so I couldn't open the keyboard at the moment, but I did when I got home and didnt see any WWAN card, but I wasn't exactly sure of what i was looking for. Anyways, the box it came in has the configuration on the outside. I took a pic with my iPhone, so its crap - no macro settings - but if you can somehow read the blur, the 3rd option down is AT&T 3G. There is also "WWAN Misc Part", "WWAN Misc Parts", and "ATT Option". So I'm assuming it comes with the built in hardware. It came with an AT&T 3G sim card already in the machine.  However, the machine isn't detecting the hardware. FN+F5 only shows wifi & bluetooth. I go into the bios, and I don't see a WWAN option anywhere. I read somewhere that one guy had to update his bios to get it to show/work. I'm assuming my bios would already be updated though. Did they just not install the hardware?  I figured I would get better support here before calling them again

Answer:X200 & AT&T 3G WWAN...Not detecting wwan

I have an X200 with AT&T WWAN and it works fine. A couple of things to check: My configuration shows = 42X6331 L1 WWAN Intg AT&T (3G); 42V8251 L1 COPT AT&T USA; 43Y3864 L! COPT WWAN MiscPartsIn the Thinkvantage - Mobile Broadband Connect - you should get a screen that has a "sign up" button and a "close" button. With the wireless power switch "on" (switch on left side of laptop) click the "signup" button. It will check the status of your card. If you have not signed up for service, it will NOT show you any signal strength, you must sign up for the service and the network has to put the ESN (Electronic Serial Number) of your card into the system for it to work. Do not try and use the AT&T Communications Manager software because it will not work with the Ericsson radio in the laptop. Just my experience.

Question: T400 GOBI

Hi Everyone, I have a T400 (2765-T2U). As of now I have the Ericsson AT&T broadband card installed. I would like to have the GOBI card so I can use Sprint EVDO in the states, and an HSDPA carrier while in Europe.  Does anyone know the part number for the T400 GOBI card? If I install the card will the connection manager allow me to choose Sprint in the states, or say Vodaphone while in Europe? Thanks! Matt

Ok so to start off my Model is T420 ok so this is my second gobi i've Might've ruined due to how sensitive the hardware is - ok so the history goes that i've instsalled windows 8 (iso provided from MS's secretive (idk if it is a secretive onedrive or not)one drive) and upgraded to 8.1 and it instaslled perfect with all drivers onboard from Lenovo System Updater Uitlity and after a fight with bluetooth not shutting down i've decied to go back to OEM system and the first thing i noticed when going to check in device manager(habbit) is Gobi 3000 not installing drivers with a code 10 so the question i ask... Is it possible that the transition from win 8 - 8.1 - back to OEM win 7 did something hardware wise to the gobi? also sorry if i spelled something wrong - that's what happens when you take 5MGx2 melatonin

Answer:Sensitive Gobi 3000? or ???

Ok so I found out that my gobi /3g module might be a windows 8/8.1 onesince the windows 7 version of the driver doesn't install the driver on windows 7 but the windows 8/8.1 version of the driver installs just fine on both windows 7 pro x64 and windows 8/8.1 pro x64and yes I've run the recovery dvd's a few times which is windows 7 pro and the gobi doesn't look to be installed when checking device manager Each of those times -I think someone might be handing out modified gobi 3000's or in short 3g module's to fit in on a certain driver made for another system instead of it's original system (it's what I think am not sure)so in short case closed.

For the past week my Verizon connection won't disconnect.  If you click disconnect in the Windows control panel and in VZ access manager it does not complete the process and stays connected.  No error, just doesn't disconnect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the driver and VZ Access Manager.  No change. Interesting, I uninstalled the Lenovo driver and VZ Access Manager.  Then I installed the Lenovo driver.  As soon as the Lenovo driver was installed Verizon was connected and I cannot disconnect. In Windows, under properties, I have selected "Do not automatically connect" and in VZ Access Manager I have selected "NDIS - Manually connect".  Does not have an impact.   It's like the connect switch is forced on and I don't know why.  I am out of ideas and need some of yours.  This is an X201 with Windows 7 and the latest drivers and VZAM version.  It's a domain machine too.   Thoughts? Thanks! Question: Gobi 3000 problems

Hello,   I have a new W520 and my Gobi 3000 broadband modem keeps dissapearing. I get an errors about a USB device problem and in Hardware Devices it is listed with a USB error code 43. I have to power down the computer and reboot to get it to show back up. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes after booting to dissapear and other times a few hours. Very sporadic. Interestingly, it never dissapears when I am using the modem and have an active connection to AT&T. It only dissapears while I am connected via wifi. This is most confusing to see a device malfunction only when it is not in use. It is annoying that I have to shutdown and reboot to switch over to it when I lose my wifi signal. I am using an exisiting AT&T sim with a laptop connect account I have had for years. When the Gobi 3000 is connected it works very well. Any suggestions before I call Lenovo technical support? My guess is that either the drivers are immature, or I have a defective Gobi 3000.

W520, i7-2820QM, BIOS 1.25, 1920x1080 FHD, 16 GB RAM, 2000M NVIDIA GPU, 500GB HDD, INTEL 6300, GOBI 3000 3G, COLOR CALIBRATOR, WINDOWS 7 PRO, FINGERPRINT READER

Answer:Gobi 3000 problems

please try these 2 things
1.  in device manager, double click on the device, go to the power management tab, and UNCHECk the option for "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2.  in power manager, DISABLE the option for USB selective suspend.  this option is in the advanced settings of your power profile.

try 1 first, if that doesn't work then try 2.  I'm not suggesting this is a long-term solution, i'm just trying to collect information about what the problem could be.

Are there any Lenovo engineers on the board that have knowledge of the GOBI WWAN chipset? The GOBI website lists the newer T series as machines that support GOBI, but no one at the support line knows anything about GOBI. I need to know if the Verizon UNDP card is actually a GOBI card before I order it, and if it will work with my 2765-T2U. I want to use Sprint here in the states, but I am going to Europe in two weeks and I want to use an HSDPA carrier such as Vodaphone while I'm there. I dont know if I should order the card because I cant seem to confirm anything at all. The phone support people are nice but admit to knowing nothing about it..I've talked to several of them and they told me to come here and find an engineer! Thanks for any help you might provide! Matt

Hello @ all. I bought a new Gobi 3000 from China with FRU 60Y3257 for my W520. But i canīt turn on the Gobi with Fn+F5 Menu, WWAN Button is there - onclick nothing happens.WLAN Button works normal.WWAN driver-installation was without any troubles.  Device-Manager shows all ok - no unknown Devices. Before Gobi i had an Ericsson F5521gw inside, it worked.  Also strange thing is, the Wireless-LED is always on, also when the Hardware-Switch is off. That wasnīt so with Ericsson.Thinkpad is a W520 with Win7 Pro x64 Clean Install.Gobi Driver is 8awt11ww.Hotkey Driver is 8jvu10ww.BIOS is 1.33. No ThinkVantage Software installed.  Same mistake is on T520 - also not only a Problem with my W520... Any ideas? thx

Is this Gobi thing something that Lenovo offers as a pre-installed device on the W520?  I don't think so, because I can't find any reference to it in the W520 Device Driver File Matrix. It could be that the W520 is not designed to support this device, even though it physically fits into the computer. Michael

Answer:Setting up Gobi on X201t

If your X201 is WWAN ready there should be a slot for the SIM card behind the battery. Also there should be a slot for the WWAN adapter which i believe should be under the keyboad, but not 100% for sure for the X201. If the computer is WWAN ready there should be two wires for the antenna by the slot for the adapter. Then you need to download and install the driver and that's basically it. The Thinkpads usually got a whitelist in BIOS for these kind of cards so if you buy a Gobi 2000 WWAN card from Lenovo should work fine, but buy it somewhere else might give you a error that says "Unauthorized hardware" during post. I'm not sure if this is the case here, but if you install the card i guess you will find out If you have some problems with these steps please explain what part where you have some questions like finding the SIM slot, installing the card, installing the drivers and so on. -gan

I have several questions about using the Gobi 2000/3000 modems on the X120e: 1) Must I buy the Gobi 3000 from the Lenovo website, or will the Gobi 2000 work on the X120e? Also if I get it from another vendor will it be the same (have the same form factor to fit)? 2) Others have posted that the Gobi 2000 is unlocked (works with carriers around the world), is that the case for the 3000? 3) For installation on the X120e, how accessible is the SIM on the 2000/3000? I may have to switch out the SIM frequently and having to open up the computer to get to it would not be feasible.

Hi baldursgate and welcome to the community,

As far as accessibility goes, here's how to get to the slot.

I'm not sure about your other questions, except to say that whatever card you put in there should be a Lenovo branded card or you may get an unauthorized card error at bootup.

Hi everyone, I just bought a X120e (0596CTO). It is mobile broadband upgradable, and so I searched the wireless accessories to find a suitable card. Both the GOBI 2000 and 3000 were listed as compatible. So naturally I bought the 3000 since its the newer version. When I received the machine I did all of the Windows and Lenovo updates. Then I popped the back off and put the GOBI 3000 in there but when I booted up I got an unauthorized part error and that the startup was halted. So I went to the Lenovo driver website and manually downloaded the BIOS update utility and the GOBI 2000/3000 driver utility. The BIOS update said I had the latest BIOS and the GOBI utility didn't install because no wireless card was detected. So I called tech support and they told me first off that the GOBI 3000 is not even listed only the 2000 (wrong!) and then he asks me "Are you sure this machine is broadband upgradable". Yes! It's listed as a perk right on the sales page. Plus where did he think I was shoving the card into (the RAM slot?) :-)  I'm usually nice, but this guy was irritating since he was incredibly slow and essentially accusing me of having mindlessly buying incompatible devices. When he says that there is nothing he can do for me, I tell him that I guess I'll exchange it, but that they should fix the sales webpage. He doesn't believe me! (because the PSREF website has it all listed differently). So I walk him through how it was that I came upon the GOBI... Read more

I have a number of Thinkpad x131e notebook PCs and need to order a WWAN module for it.  The only supported WWAN mPCI-e card listed is the Gobi 3000 MC8355 model, which is the slower 3G modem.  Has anyone used the GOBI 4000 or 5000 series LTE modems? I've seen posts about Lenovo whitelisting certain hardware, but I can't seem to find that list.  Are there electrical limitations that would prevent Lenovo from whitelisting the LTE modems?  If not, this type of hardware lock would be a deal breaker for any future Thinkpad orders for my company. Hardware is Thinkpad x131e Type 3372 Thanks,Jay

Answer:Gobi 4000 in x131e?

x131e doesn't support Gobi 4000 or 5000 or any other LTE wwan cards officially. Look at the followed file and find out "wireless card" section:http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/X131e_AMD_FRU_BOM.pdfJust Ericsson h5321gw is another supported wwan card. It's a bit faster then Gobi 3000 but doesn't support US wireless CDMA/EV-DO carriers.

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

Take out your battery from your tablet. Check behind your tablet to see if there's a simcard inserted in the simcard slot. That may be what's causing you the problem with SIM card found. If it's there, remove it.

Question: Gobi 3000 in W510

Will a Gobi 3000 work in a W510 inplace of the existing Gobi 2000?

Answer:Gobi 3000 in W510

From my experience with older machines, it will, provided only that the BIOS is white-list patched; otherwise the system will not boot up and would report "unauthorized PCI express card detected" or the like. In short, Gobi 3000 will not work unless your BIOS is patched such that it bypasses the white-list detection.

It now looks like Lenovo is now only offering the Gobi 4000 AT&T version withthe new X1 Carbons. Just prior to launch they were listing the Ericson 3G card. Anyone know if we can swap out the AT&T Gobi 4000 one for a Verizon Gobi? How aboutthe laptops that came with the Ericson, can we just replace the WAN card witheither Gobi 4000? Will the Bios not block any of these options? Is the antennasetup the same?
