Preferred Solution: what is the bluetooth power in my t410?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Lenovo T410 which has been exhibiting keyboard issues (several keys have failed and I've been using an external keyboard). It seems that the keyboard failure is affecting the powering up of the machine. Occasionally it will turn on, most of the time it will not. I've submitted an eService request for this and the status is "Solution Provided" but the "SO Status (as shown on ICSS)" is "On Hold" "Order on hold, pending update" (per: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT074324 ). This has been the case since the 28th of last month. I've confirmed it is a keyboard failure by swapping a keyboard from a T420 (which, ironically, had a service request fulfilled fine around the same time). I have two questions: i) most urgently, is there *any* way I can power the machine on without using the keyboard?ii) what do I do about the service request's "On Hold" status? this machine is out of action and key to our work.

Answer:Lenovo T410 does not power on due to keyboard / power button issue.

i) There are three ways to power on the laptop without the power button. a) Use a dock. b) Check under BIOS menu (if possible) under power, to see whether you have something called 'Power On with AC Attach' feature. If you do enable it, and save then exit. What this do, is that it will power on the laptop when you connect the power plug into the laptop. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/8991415709/c) remove the CMOS battery, and power on the laptop by attaching the power adapter to the laptop.

Thanks in advance,

I bought a new T410i and I opted not to get the webcam and bluetooth. Just wondering: 1) If I didnt get the webcam, will there now be a useless slot / hole at the top of my LCD where the webcam shouldve been?2) I also didn't get the bluetooth. Will the middle indicator LED be useless now? Also is there anything else that's useless as a result? e.g. one of my FN keys (F5?) and is there a physical bluetooth radio switch that's useless? I'm a design nut and these things bug me.

Answer:New T410 - what happens if I don't get webcam and bluetooth?

Hi echelon6,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Interesting concern you have there. Below is a pic which I've taken on my T410 with webcam and my colleague's who doesn't have a webcam

Without Webcam

With Webcam

So basically it looks like the "webcam" holder is being replaced with a blank "board" or some sort.

As for the Bluetooth, I am not sure as I do not have a non Bluetooth T410 in office. It should be a indicator without light. (Not sure)

Fn + F5 would still work as it also controls the WLAN and physical switch still works as well cause it also controls the WLAN.

Hope this helps.

I have a Thinkpad T410 with Bluetooth and up untill recently everything worked fine.  Now I cannot connect to any new bluetooth devices.  Existing bluetooth connections still work fine, but if I wanted to add another mouse or headset, I cannot. I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 with all the latest drivers, I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the bluetooth drivers and application several times with no luck, any help will be greatly appreciated.

hey Gizmoguy3000,could you try uninstalling all the bluetooth devices and drivers. then let windows install its generic drivers.once the generic drivers has been installed, try pairing all the devices and see if that works.

I can't get my phone (LG-810 Incite) to pair with my T410. They see each other but won't pair. The T410 keeps asking for pairing code and when you let Windows create one, the number disappears too fast and it says can't pair with the device.  I tried making one up and that didn't work either.  LG says the pairing code for the phone is 0000, doesn't work. I am running Win 7 Pro x64.

you should be getting an option to not use a code do it without a code and it will work. well thats the way it worked for me

Good day to all.

I am an I.T Technician at my workplae (newly hired, close to 2 months now) and there is a Lenovo Laptop I have some trouble with. The owner made a request for a mouse. Before purchasing one, I talked to my I.T supervisor and he said he had one, a ThinkPad Bluetooth Laser Mouse. He asked me to try using mine on the laptop to see if it will work, to verify bluetooth capablities. While installing the driver, it asked to switch on the mouse, which did. I proceeded to look for the little bluetooth icon on the task bar in order to add the device, Said icon was not there. I then went on to searching for the bluetooth in the Start menu by typing in Bluetooth, which was what I did on my laptop (T530) when I did not see the icon.

After seeing the Bluetooth link on the Start menu, i clicked it but nothing happened, no window opened and no bluetooth icon on the taskbar. I searched again but instead I clicked the Send and Receive function, that opened but I could not use it, options were darkened. So I htought to myself, maybe, the Bluetooth Radio is off. I FN+F5 for to open the wireless radio setting and did see that the Bluetooth Radio was off. I switched it on and tried opening the bluetooth again but still nothing happened. I deceided to do a reboot to see if it would help. After logging in as administrator (by the way, all of what I said was done on the administrator profile) I FN+F5 again and shockingly, the Bluetooth radio was gone.

Hello. I have a Lenovo T410 and T510 both have been built with XP SP3. Both will not enter Standby and flash up the error "The device driver for the Thinkpad Bluetooth 2.1 with enhanced data rate II is preventing the machine from entering standby"I have un-installed and re-installed the Bluetooth from device manager and re-installed the drivers. This helps for a short while then the problem returns.I am confident the correct driver, which I have downloaded from Lenovo, is installed and both Installs of XP are patched up from Microsoft... Any ideas..?? Thank you!!

Answer:T410 and T510 Not going into Standby because of Bluetooth 2.1

Just out of curiosity, do you have any devices connected to the BT service when you're trying to enter stand-by? I've seen this cause issues randomly in the past. You may try turning off the BT radio and see if the problem goes away. By doing that and leaving the service running, that should at least help determine whether it's the device or the driver causing the issue.

Hi, I would like to install a bluetooth daughter card on my T410 machine. According to T410 manual, there are two compatible parts, 60Y3199 and 60Y3213. Does anyone know the difference between those two? When I searched web, some dealer said 42T09069 is also compatible with T410. Is it true? I would appreciate much if somebody provide answers to my questions.

Answer:Bluetooth daugther card for T410

Hi and welcome to the forum!
42T09069 is not a valid part number, whereas 42T0906 appears to be and that too on online auction sites, according to all auction sites that I've visited; 42T0906 is a part number for turbo memory, not Bluetooth.

A for other two part numbers, I don't know the difference between them, however seeing how lenovo has various suppliers of keyboards, trackpads, batteries, fingerprint, LCDs and so forth; it wouldn't be wrong to assume that these two come from different brands, or perhaps since lenovo has so many systems, therefore they just like to have two part numbers.

Both are compatible with T410 and should work though.

Hope this helps.

Hello everybody, I am trying to set up the bluetooth to work on Windows 8. Funnily enough everything went smooth with Ubuntu 14.04.So I am 100% sure this laptop has bluetooth hardware. Still, on the support website there is driver for bluetooth. It says it should be included in Windows 8 but I can't find it.Nor I can find the proper device in my control panel. Any hint? Thank you all.

Hello, Are you sure Windows 8 didn't install its native Bluetooth drivers? If not, the package is here: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 See if this doesn't resolve the issue. Cheers.

Answer:T410 bluetooth driver missing after upgrading to Windows 10

Dear Waddie,

Welcome in lenovo community,

I think that you are facing a compatibility  issue,

Cause lenovo did not test or released all the compatible windows 10 drivers for the T410 yet.

But you can try to right click the BT driver from the device manager and choose Update Driver Software.

I've just received a new TP T410 2522-AT6 with XP SP3 and I've noticed that the bluetooth radio is not automatically powered back on when resuming from standby or after a system power off/power on (as wireless radio correctly does). With my previous thinkpads (T42 and T60) the wireless and bluetooth radios where both brought back on if they were on before standby or power off (as it should be imho). This behavior is pretty annoying because I use the bluetooth connection to automatically keep in sync my Lotus Notes calendar with my nokia phone with an automatic refresh every hour (Nokia PC suite feature), but in this situation, if I resume the T410  from a standby (or power off)  I must remember to manually power the BT radio back on or the connection is broken.I've checked everywhere (power settings, Access connections settings, BIOS, BT configurations) but I didn't find a place to change this behavior. As a workaround during reboots, I've put a batch program in my XP startup folder that uses  ACFNF5.EXE (access connection program) with the /bton option, and this seems to work... but I'm still stuck when going in standby!Any ideas on how to fix this? Anyone knows a good reason for this changed behavior? Thanks

Answer:T410 Bluetooth radio powered off after standby must be manually activated with Fn+F5

This happend on laptops, on which you tried some linux OS like liveCD of Ubuntu, or something like this. The solution was to reset BIOS. Then this problem disappeared. Do not know, if this is your case, but anyway you can try to reset BIOS.

Hey, The mouse doesn't come with a dongle, but I downloaded the driver from the support website. The driver recognizese the mouse and it is added to the list of bluetooth devices, however the driver doesn't get installed. It shows that the 'Bluetooth Peripheral Device" driver did not install driver successfully. The mouse does work, I tried it on my Samsung Note 2 and it worked just fine. Please help, I've spent so much time on this trying to get it to work!

I just got a set of Bluetooth speakers and tried pairing them with my laptop last night.  Although it detected and paired to the speakers, it couldn't detect the type of driver.  After looking online I installed the Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II for Windows 7.  It then found the appropriate driver and the speakers worked fine after the installation. This morning I restarted the laptop, and it hasn't been working since.  It will boot (very slowly) and sometimes get as far as the login screen.  After logging in however (the mouse locks up at this point) it will never get to my desktop, it will just go to a black screen and sit with the pointer in the middle.  I have tried booting it in safe mode, running a repair, and none of this has worked.  Is there anything I can do to fix this?

When I remove the power/battery, press the power button repeatedly, it powers on and asked to update time (F1), i update the time and it goes into Windows repair mode for about 10 seconds then powers down. This entire fix/auto-power-down happens each time I try to fix by pressing power button with power/battery removed.  Please help let me know what I should do.  Best,

Answer:T410 will not power up unless plugged in

It sounds like either a blown fuse (maybe F11 or F12) or a damaged power transistor (mosfet) on the motherboard. In general, shops don't do that kind of repair. You need pretty good soldering equipment

I am looking for some assistance in getting this feature up and running.  I have flashed 5 T410s to the newest 1.49 BIOS so they have the AC POWER ON feature in the BIOS and enabled the setting.  However they are not powering on when the AC is turned on.  It sporadically works when I monkey with the devices, but it is not consistent or showing a pattern for me to figure it out.  We are trying to mount them in Enovate mobile carts and wish to remove the battery as the carts have batteries in them to make them mobile and we do not want to waste the laptop battery.  The cart has a separate power button for the cart and one that connects to the dock port on the bottom that can turn the unit on and off.  We really want to have one power button that turn everything off and on to not confuse the end users however in order to do so we need the AC enabled to be working.    Anyone else have any similar issues with the AC Enabled setting for the T410s?

Answer:T410 AC Power On Feature

Hi, AdvocateAndrew

I just did some tests on an L412 to better understand this issue and I discovered something: The machine would boot on as intended every time it received power, but would lose this functionality once the battery was removed, after which the BIOS setting had to be redone before it would work again. So, at least during my tests, the battery had to be in the system and could not be removed. Perhaps this applies to your system as well. I fully understand wanting to preserve the battery, but it may not be possible. I think that having the battery in the computer gives the system enough power to recognize that the AC adapter has been plugged in.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi, My T410i is not switching.  When I push the power button, all lights blinks (power, microphone, speakers, caps lock and over screen light).  The blinking pattern is: first blink the DVD drive light, then all the rest of the mentioned lights in exactly 5 seconds intervals.  Also the fan stars and stop following the same pattern.  Any idea? Thx in advance.

Bought new T410 a week ago. While trying to make recovery disc noticed my DVD drive is always powered off, even when machine is plugged in. To turn power on either you push side button on drive to open the case and it will turn on after almost a minute or can turn power on by right click on mouse. Is this a power saving default setting never heard of it before. Problem is if you are not able to put the disc in and able to play it within a minute it will turn itself off again and won't turn on again until I close all the programs and retry. While trying to change DVD during making of recovery disc it turned itself off if I was not able to pop the next DVD in and play it within a minute time. Very frustrating. Spend 7 DVD's  to complete recovery program as every time it turns off and I have to restart again. Checked power saving setting- Battery stretch is disabled so that`s not the issue. First of all Is this a normal feature with Lenovo. This is my first thinkpad. Why doesn`t it gives me a warning prior to turning itself off. Is there a option where I can increase the time line for it to stay active. Like the machine overall except this annoying feature. Called the technical support they suggested to replace the DVD drive and have shipped a new DVD drive.  Will try once I receive it but not sure if DVD drive is the problem. Any suggestions.

Good Afternoon,Im having a little power problem with my Lenovo T410, after replacing the hard drive. After I replaced the hard drive, I was installing an OS and it powered off because I haven't charged it for about 2 days. When I plugged in my AC charger, it won't turn on.After many trials, it seems that my Lenovo is not able to power on with only the AC power cord. I took out the battery and used only the AC Power cord and it will not turn on.Next, I put back the battery back, along with the AC power cord and it booted, but shuts off right after the "ThinkPad" logo comes on. Now it is charging but the LCD light for the battery is blinking orange. After about 10 mins of charging, I still can not turn on the Lenovo. Is this due to a bad AC adapter? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Lenovo T410 Power Problem

Hi DerivativeX,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I cannot confirm it is a issue with AC adapter, you can also check with performing power drain.

To perform power drain you have to remov the AC power adapter & battery after that hold the power button for 30 seconds perform this step for 2 or more times.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

hey nuri, does this happen with ..1. power adapter + battery pack ?2. power adapter without battery pack ?3. battery pack without power adapter ?If possible, we would like to fully charge your battery, use it like normal until it discharges fully and then fully charge it. Hi, My T410 would not power on, nothing when pressing the button. It will power up if I remove the cmos battery, plug the power in, unplug, re-connect the cmos battery and then plug the power in, and it works fine then...until it's powered off of course and the cycle begins again. I thought it may be a faulty cmos battery so I have changed that to no avail. Next step is to change the keyboard I guess? the power button seems to do nothing...it will not power the laptop off etc. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and found a solution before I spend Ģ20 or so on a keyboard off Ebay. Thanks, Terry

Hello - I'll try to be succinct and cover everything I have tried. I have a T410 i7 with Win 7 installed along with all the drivers.  It has been working fine but I seem to be experiencing a power issue.  This first manifested itself as the screen going blank and refusing to come back on.  Thinking it was overheating my partner opened it up and cleaned out the fan (my partner fixes Lenovos as a field engineer) and applied thermal paste to the processor.  All seemed well.I was working on it, plugged in, when suddenly it shut down.  I tried to restart it but without success so I left it plugged in (with the orange light flashing) and went off to have supper.  When I came back, the orange light was still flashing so I decided to leave it to charge overnight.Next morning - orange light still flashing and although it would power up there were odd things going on when I looked in Power Manager.  It showed the battery as being good for 35 hours (although I knew that if I took the AC adapter out it would close down).  So I tried a different known good battery - same thing.  Then a different PSU - same thing.  On the desktop, it shows as charging for half a dozen animations then goes static - Power Manager says it's charging but doesn't display the 'time left to fully charge' and isn't actually charging at all. So - here are the things I've changed and tested at each step:1)  The battery2)  The PSU (trying both 90w ... Hey guys, Left my laptop asleep yesterday. Went to use it today and it was a brick. No LED lights turned on when I went to plug it into the wall, and the power would not come on. A little Googling and I found the "press the power button 11 times" trick. That worked! My question is: what happened? Is this serious or just a fluke? How can I avoid it in the future? Thanks, Justin

Answer:Pretty much brand new T410 wouldn't power on

There is probably a build up of statics within the power circuitry. You can't really avoid it, well at least no one seriously documented the cause and effect of all these.

If T410 installs the Power Management Driver 1.60, the Intel Turbo Boost Technology will be disabled, how to fix the problem?

Answer:T410's problem with Power Management Driver 1.60

It's working here with that.  How do you know it's disabled? Install the Power Manager application and turn slider to left for more performance for a simple way to control this. Or you can manually change windows power options manually to do the same.  Be plugged in when testing this.

Hi all,I looked around thinking I would easily find an explanation for my dead T410s given all these symptoms, but I can't find anything. Its out of warranty so I will probably need to diagnose myself and order the right part etc. Thank you for your help in advance! Andrew  - Computer went black (powered down) for apparently no reason. It has done this ~once a week for the last month but  I can usually turn it back on - Now, when AC power is provided (w/ and w/o battery) there is a beeping and clicking 1 to 2 times a second with the fingerprint reader flashing in sync. Answer:T410 is dead with flashing and beeping with AC power

Solved the problem! Hopefully this will help someone else. Symptoms are apparently that of a short with the mother board? When I removed the back plate for the Wifi cards there were three cables not attached to anything (I think they are antenna cables for a WAN card that I don't have). Two of them had slipped under the protective plastic that was stuck to the motherboard. When I removed the wires and covered them in electric tape the computer stopped beeping and booted normally.

Recently my T410 has been overheating and shuttind down after a few hours of browser usage. I believed this was due to a heating problem so I finally got under the keyboard today only to find little to no dust or debris clogging up the heatsink fan. Just to be safe I hit it with the compressed air again. After reassembling, the laptop now shutdown after a short period of being powered on. This shutdown happens regardless of me getting into windows loading or getting into the BIOS setup. I think this too may be an overheating problem, as I see and hear the fan spinning up harder before the sudden shutdown.  I've tried everything from running with only the AC in, only one ram card in, holding the power button for 30 seconds prior to actually powering up, etc. Is there any more troubleshooting I should preform, or should I just accept the fact I'm better off handing this to a repair professional.  Side note: After reassemble I had 3 screws that didn't fit anywhere on the exterior casing, maybe I mistook a screw placement and now it's somehow short circuiting?

Hi,  Yesterday I came home and was about to use my T410 like I sometimes do. I turned it on, the computer loaded the ThinkPad screen and then quickly showed me a "Fan Error" in the top left corner. I took the computer apart and saw that the fan wasn't moving like it should. I tried to clean it without taking it apart any further but that didn't work so I took the fan out and cleaned it. It is now spinning smoothly again. However, after putting it back together, when I turn it on the power you can hear the laptop turn on but the screen stays black and there are no lights flashing on the monitor. My question is, why is my monitor not turning on?  Side note: While taking out the fan I swiped my finger on the thermal paste, I'm going to re-apply some thermal paste between the heat sink and the cpu later today (any suggestions on how I should clean the old thermal paste?)

Hallo and welcome to the forum You should remove any old thermal grease and apply new thermal grease before you turn the computer on. The Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) has instructions on how much thermal grease you should apply. To clean the cpu in my notebook before applying new thermal grease i have been using isopropyl alcohol in the past.

Hi everyone, on my T410 2522-EM1 the power managment gauge in the taskbar originally disappeared. After downloading and installing the newest version of the power managment (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70601) and the power managment driver (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4GXPEG) the gauge was back again. But after a while I noticed that the gauge didn't display the actual battery load but showed the load that the battery had at startup. In the power managment utility the correct values are displayed. I am absolutly clueless on how that could be. I tried reinstalling all of it but it doesn't seem to work. Does anyone else experience the same problems?

If i have full battery and try to boot without the power supply i get a blue screen after being about 60 seconds in the screen where the windows logo appears. I have Windows 7 installed fresh a few days ago. I think its possible, that i have made some failure with the drivers. The ThinkPad Power Managers always stops working after booting. Answer:Thinkpad T410 only boots if power supply is plugged in

I have now more detailed information about the issue. - Restart and Sleep works without the power supply, only battery plugged in- Shutdown and then restart, works only if power supply is plugged in. (It does not make a difference if the battery is plugged in, always if the power supply is not plugged in the startup will fail with a bluescreen. On the bluescreen is a advice to make a filesystem check. If i use the harddisk check in the bios, the test will fail if the power supply is not plugged in with an Read Error. This makes me think about a problem with the SSD i am using. But im working 10hours or more a day with the notebook and everythink works as long  as i dont do a shutdown). I am now really confused. I reinstalled the power manager and the power manager driver. The power manager now works perfekt. It does not stop working after booting. What should i do next? i cannot install a SSD firmeware update because i have windows on the ssd. Also on the website from OCZ is written, that a installation of the firmware-update is not recommend if not absolutly necessary. Please, help me if someone has a idea. In my oppinion this is a really big issue (Bug), because i can not consider my notebook a notebook anymore if it can not boot without an external power supply... Any advice? Greetings, Rain

from past 1 week my laptop was giving date and time error during start up. I thought cmos battery needs to be reset so i reset the cmos battery (by removing ac and battery power then removed the battery connection from the panel) but now when i try to restart my machine it is not giving any response( not starting). Any suggestion ??.

Answer:After removing cmos battery and pressing the power button T410 is not starting

You'll have to go into the BIOS and do a RESET default settings or equivalent. You can make customized changes if you which including time and date in the BIOS.F1 usually gets you in but maybe a special sequence if you're not getting the prompt Text screen.

Hi everyone, I bought the t410 for about 5 months ago and I've been having problems with the Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 adapter (I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit). I uninstalled access connections about two weeks into owning the laptop because it was not working with my school's wireless network. A few weeks later, I realised that when I turned on the laptop or brought the laptop out of hibernation, it would attempt to connect to a wireless network (whether it had been my school or home network) and would fail to connect without notification. When I attempted to reconnect, it would fail again, bring up the notification to see if I wanted to troubleshoot it, I would run the troubleshooting, and it would fix it 99% of the time, saying that there was a problem with my adapter or the access point and that the adapter had to be reset. I've been dealing with this for a few months now but it's really starting to bother me, considering the fact that this laptop is fairly new. From my understanding, my adapter's driver is up to date.  Any suggestion? Has anyone else encountered this problem? If you need anymore details, please let me know.  Fluder

Answer:Problem with t410 wireless adapter - automatic connection fails coming out of hibernate/power off

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Try this, launch ThinkVantage Power Manager -> Switch to Advanced mode -> Click Advanced Settings -> Scroll down and set "Maximum Performance" in "Wireless adapter settings" -> Press OK then exit. See this:- http://img824.imageshack.us/slideshow/webplayer.php?id=lenovo1.png

Further, go to the device manager, select your wifi card -> go to Properties -> and put "Transmit Power" to maximum, and "Roaming Aggressiveness" to "Highest". See this:- http://i52.tinypic.com/w02v0l.jpg

Answer:T410 ThinkPad T410 advanced-n 6200 AGN driver update fail

Hi NickSteel,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Uninstall the current Wifi driver from the system and do not update the drivers from Windows update, use only ThinkVantage system update utility to update the latest drivers for your system hardware.

Hope this helps!

I have been running Windows 10 now for around a year on this machine with few problems.  However, recently I've run into a problem with my Bluetooth wireless. I was able to manage both the Ralink WiFi and Ralink Bluetooth using either the HP Wireless Assistant or the f12 funciion key.  However, recently, the HPWA stopped working and upon attempting to reload it, II get the message that it incompatible with Windows 10 (even when using the compatibility mode).  Also, the f12 key has stopped working and the only way to disable/enable the WiFi adapter is by using the Wihdows 10 network settings.  I can live with that. However, my bluetooth adapter no longer shows in Device Manager, nor does bluetooth show in the Network Settings panel of Windows 10.  When I attempt to reload the driver from the Support Page, I get a message that it cannot be installed because the Bluetooth is powered off. I suspect that this may be caused by a leftover setting in the Wireless Assistant before Windows disabled it (ie. I had Bluetooth  disabled in HPWA when Windows disabled HPWA).  I see a lot of Bluetooth can't connect and various other Bluetooth problems, even going into Services and turn on all BTservices.  This has no effect.  While in Device Settings I don't get any showing for Ralink Bluetooth device (I do get the Ralink WiFi device which is on the same sub-board II believe), if II run HWINFO, it does show the Bluetoot... Recently acquired hp Compac nc8230
XP Pro sp2, obviously with Bluetooth

Bought a new Dell keyboard and Kensington
mouse to go with it.

I'm only getting somewhat less than 30 hrs use
out of a pair of coppertop AA's in either device

Is this normal?

Seems maybe I better invest in some good quality
rechargeables at this rate - I use the machine up to
8 hrs or so daily.

What ARE some good quality rechargeables that
hold power well? I know some don't retain "memory"
and therefore lose charge capacity over repeated charges

I've forgotten which are the good type, i.e. NiMh or whatever?

Also what brand / model hold the longest lasting charge?

Thanks!!!

Answer:Power hungry bluetooth?

i happen to have logitech wireless mouse and keyboard and use rechargeables for both of them as well as other non-computer items around the house. Don't know how all the brands and types compare but can tell you i have Radio Shack Nickel-Metal Hyrdide batteries and recharger and have been pleased in all their uses.

I'd add no matter what you decide to get, advise you buy only by a recharger that can handle ALL different type batteries (e.g. AAA, AA, C, D, etc) as it really makes it easier as you decide to add batteries for use around the house. And make sure the recharger allows you to drain all the batteries before recharging (one reason battery life is short is recharge before drained)

Is there somewhere sneaky I can find power management settings for Bluetooth devices? Either through group policy or elsewhere?

I am rolling with Windows 7 x64 full admin rights on an Acer ASPIRE 7750G.

I have the most up-to-date drivers for my mouse (Logitech M555b): Bluetooth_Atheros_6.18.0624.0302_W7x64_A

... but I get no option to set power management settings.

This is a real pain because one of the latest windows updates seems to make my bluetooth go to sleep and not wake up.

Symptoms:
* Mouse is working fine at startup
* After not using the mouse for a few seconds, it will not work any more until I turn it off and on again

Many "fixes" on the net point me to power management settings... except as seen from the pic... I am lacking said settings.

I have removed my driver, disabled automatic driver detection, and re-installed... to no avail.

EDIT: Tried the HID device, and noticed Power Settings, but the option I need is greyed out. Does that mean it is incompatible?

I don't use Bluetooth so I've disabled the driver in device manager (with the hope of improving battery life) as I can't find any other way of turning it off.

My question is does doing this help? Does disabling the driver turn off the radio or is it still using power but just not available to use?

Answer:Does disabling bluetooth save power?

All you need to do is just to turn the bluetooth off to stop it from scanning which drains the battery.

Edit..
Ooops... I missed the part where you said you can't turn it off. What device is it?
If it is disabled there is no way it can operate in any way.

Hi,I have a Lenovo T400 and I'm looking for some specs on the Power consumption while Wireless radios are ON.I know the Wifi is an Intel Wifi Link 5100, not sure about the bluetooth device though. What I'm looking for is:1- Power drawn from batteries when radios are ON but not in use2- Power drawn by the WIFI device while actively connected to a WLAN (some average in Watts or mA would do) Thanks!!!

Newbie!
I am re-opening the thread on Bluetooth Mouse loss when coming out of power save as I cannot find any solution to this, or mention of the situation I have!
I have a Toshiba Sat Pro running Vista Home Premium 32bit with Toshiba Bluetooth Stack, Logitech 5000 mouse & keyboard.
This problem has only recently started & must be the result of a MS security download!
When I come out of power save I noticed that my Bluetooth icon was static, when I checked the Bluetooth settings I found it was showing Bluetooth as enabled, I then set it to disable & then re-enabled straight away and got my connection back, (this also affects the keyboard!)
Maybe this info will generate an idea regarding the problem.

Hi,

I am currently trying to create a windows 10 image to push out to alot of tablets. One of the steps im manually doing is to turn off the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on the bluetooth adapter in device manager.

Does anyone know a registry key i can change to do this or even a group policy? I've looked around but cant seem to find one.

I have come across a registry key on the Microsoft website But this seems to be for the Network adapter and not the bluetooth. Does anyone have any ideas?

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}\DeviceNumber\PnPCapabilities. (set to 24)".

hi Ravi5kumar,

Have you tried installing the Windows 7 version of the Lenovo Energy Management?

As for the bluetooth, can you check if the bluetooth inbox driver for WIndows 8 is installed (open device manager and check if you have the same image below):

If you see the same image as the above and it says BCM92046NMD on the hardware ID, try this software for the bluetooth:

WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software for Windows

I am running Win 10 on an ASUS laptop. Both are just a few months old.
I just bought a Designer Bluetooth mouse and installed it.
The mouse stops responding every 20 minutes or so. Sometimes it stops after just one minute after I get it reconnected.
I have confirmed I have the latest drivers, both for my mouse, and for the Bluetooth Generic Attrib Service listed in Device Manager.
I also confirmed for Qualcoomm Atheros Bluetooth 4.0 - it did download and install new software, and I did reboot afterward.
I have fresh batteries in the mouse.
Under HID-compliant mouse properties, there IS a checkbox to 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. The checkbox is unchecked and greyed out. (I cannot set or unset it.)
To restart the mouse, I have to use my touchpad to open Action Center, then 'Connect', and it automatically reconnects. Though somtimes it only lasts a minute bore stopping again.
Suggestions?

dell xps m2010 wont start up ,blue power light and bluetooth light stay on,i have been searching posts in other forums as well as this one and i thought i`d narrowed it down to the graphics card,i was right to an effect,my approach was to take the xps apart following dells website documents, while i had the top (dvd drive) off ,i noticed that the graphics card screws were really loose (this was my first job)...i tightened these. The top(dvd drive ) i re-connected ,but propped it up at an angle so i could still see motherboard and parts,(warning!be carefull!!)electric!! ...attached power cable and pressed power button after half a dozen times pressing this it came to life.I noticed my fans were working and thought this might not be my motherboard after all ,no overheating happening...then it froze on windows xp ??it was a start !another 6 to ten times pressing power button it worked again this time not freezing.went into bluetooth with usb mouse and paired keyboard ,made system restore point and restarted .It took maybe 4 times with it being glitchy(freezing ..not powering up) ,but when it does load xp without freezing try restarting windows xp and then it eventually finds its feet!!!my xps 2010 is running ok now.jimb

My mouse is connecting fine, but it doesnt power up easily. If I stop using it for a few minutes, it powers down, presumably to save the battery. But then it doesnt start up again when I twist the two halves of the mouse.
I keep twisting the mouse slowly to power up and nothing happens, and then randomly, after several tries, it will power up again.
I had this problem with the same mouse and, thinking it was faulty, ordered another, but the same thing occurred.
I like the mouse's shape and weight, but this power issue is a bugbear.

Answer:Dell bluetooth mouse WM615 with Dell XPS13 - power-up issues

Same issue here. Dell's troubleshooting advice to uncheck the option for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" on the Power Management tab of the bluetooth radio in the Device Manager did not help either.
Who knows a solution for this issue?
