But i was to know that does my model has the wwan card preinstalled or i have to procure the card. If preinstalled Does it only support 3g networks or it also works with 2G networks. I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: wwan card in thinkpad t410 2537-BA2

Hi, tejas08881

From what I can see, the card is not in your system by default, so you would have to procure one. The card for your system is the Gobi 2000 for worldwide use, as shown here in this KnowledgeBase article. The correct part number for it is 60Y3183 and you should be able to give Lenovo India a call at 1-800-3000-9990 to order one if you'd like. Just make sure that the WWAN card is Lenovo-branded, as other cards will not be recognized in the BIOS.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi, I'm trying to buy the GOBI 2000 WWAN Card (Part# 60Y3183/78Y1399) for my Thinkpad T410 (model # 2516CTO), one of my friend in US is helping me get it, unfortunatley Lenovo has discontinued selling the product, I would have to purchase it through Amazon or other sellers.I was told that no other WWAN modules will be compatible with T410 other thank the GOBI 2000, so guessing it is my only choice. I currently use Reliance Net Connect with USB, and started feeling that it adds unnecessary complication when moving around.Hence I'm planning for this upgrade. My real question is, will this card work in India with a carrier like Vodafone or Reliance? If it works does any of you have experience using it, how the speeds are, and is it worth the $100 odd that I would shell out of my pocket? Any answers would definitely help me in making a purchase decision, so please let me know. regards, Raju

Hi, had to sign up today as this has stumped me, my T410 has decided to stop working, prior to it deciding to not work I was doing some Windows Updates, it asked to reboot, laptop shut down, powered up, and that was that, stuck with a blank screen and no signs it's going any further. Took a look around the web and the closest I came to the symptoms (pretty much identical, but lacking my own observations) being discussed is here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T410-won-t-boot-blank-screen-and-keyboar... Only there was no solution to the issue aside from the person sending it off for repair, which I don't want to do considering I'm a laptop repair technician by trade (so no need for baby-steps, I can take full-on techy speak)!! I've reseated as much as I can (RAM, HDD, ODD, WiFi & WWAN cards, CPU, even the 56k Modem!!), pulled the power when on, disconnected the CMOS battery, done the power button 10-presses & hold for 30 seconds thing, all to no avail. The things it does do are the LEDs go through their own POST on powerup, the WWAN LED remains lit whether or not the card's fitted, the CPU warms up as though it's trying to do something and as such the heatsink fan spins up when up to temperature, and when I press the power button again for about a second (asI would to to switch it off when in Windows), the HDD LED lights up, then goes out, then the laptop beeps and shuts off. So, considering it can switch itsel... Hello everybody, I am trying to set up the bluetooth to work on Windows 8. Funnily enough everything went smooth with Ubuntu 14.04.So I am 100% sure this laptop has bluetooth hardware. Still, on the support website there is driver for bluetooth. It says it should be included in Windows 8 but I can't find it.Nor I can find the proper device in my control panel. Any hint? Thank you all.

Answer:T410 2537 NQ6 bluetooth under Windows 8

Hello, Are you sure Windows 8 didn't install its native Bluetooth drivers? I've never had any problems with Bluetoothinstallation on any ThinkPads when either clean installing or upgrading to Windows 8. If you have the Thinkpad Hotkey Features Integration package installed, you can press FN+F5 to open upyour WiFi-Bluetooth window and enable the Bluetooth there. If not, the package is here: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 See if this doesn't resolve the issue. Cheers.

I have a thinkpad T410 (2537-DN1) and my original power adapter is seeing some wear and tear that I have temporarily fixed with some electrical tape. My adapter is currently a 60W/20V model. What I am wondering is that I still have an adapter from my old T60. It's a 90W/20V model. Can I safely use it on my T410? My research has found both yes and no suggestions but nothing solid. Ergo, I thought I would ask. Thanks in advance, kate

Hi! I have a T430 2347CTO. The notebook has an Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, 11bgn, 11ac) adapter installed. 1. The WLAN adapter is causing problems and I'd like to replace it, but I'm not sure what I should install instead. Any tips? 2. I'd like to install a WWAN adapter, but I'm not sure if my model has the required antenna installed. Does anybody know if it has?

Answer:Thinkpad T430 - replace WLAN card and add WWAN card

I confirmed that this WLAN card will work: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Intel-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-wifi-Card-for-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X230-T430-60Y...

The WLAN card is N wireless; and the WWAN card is 3G.  The ones I linked to are shipping from the US and the best price I could find.

Hope that helps!

Yes, its a radio device so needs to certified in the laptop platform.

BoltVanderhuge wrote:

The current Sierra Gobi 3000 and the Ericsson F5521gw cards used by Lenovo are not carrier locked and can be used with many 3G ISPs.  The are other WWAN cards supplied in some parts of Asia which I have never seen, so I can't comment on those ones.

For a variety of reasons, not related to the cards themselves, not all 3G ISPs support BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) conenction to their 3G services, so you still many not be able to use it with any 3G ISP.

Cheers,

Recently I purchased x230. My 3G is not working. I don't find any device on device manager. How do I know, which built in 3g module is installed on my laptop? or is there any option to enable it? I saw the specification, it is showing the 3g is in built. Please help me out. I put my sim, but no luck.

Answer:ThinkPad X230 WWAN card for 3G

If your laptop model isn't CTO follow the link below and type in Machine-Type-Model (MTM) within Quick Path field:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/default.pageIf short description of your laptop specification includes "WWAN" statement wwan card SHOULD be factory preinstalled. "WWAN option" isn't the same, it means laptop is WWAN ready, i.e.has built in wwan antennas and sim card holder only, but not the card itself.Follow this link:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.pageType in your laptop serial number and find out WWAN card model if it was preinstalled into your laptop. You might find out something like the strings below depending of your area:04W3785 - Gobi300004W3786 - H5321gw04W3788 - MC770004W3791 - MC775004W3792 - MC770004W3821 - Sierra MC771060Y3257 - Gobi3 WWAN60Y3267 - F5521 Mal60Y3297 - H5321w

These are Lenovo approved wwan cards p/ns (FRU) for x230 and their short descriptions
Post here your results, we'll see what to do further.

hey slither, kindly reinstall the original OS that came with your unit. have it on mono-boot, no linux OS installed.test the wireless card again and get back to us. i suspect that the linux you have installed might have caused the issue.

I have Thinkpad Edge E431 which has two PCI Express card slot of different form factor. The first one being PCI Express Mini Card slot occupied by Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 and the second slot is PCI Express M.2 Card slot for SSDs/WWAN card. I have been searching WWAN Card with PCI Express M.2 form factor but unable to find one in my locality. However, there are vendors in my locality selling WWAN card which is compatible with PCI Express Mini Card slot.My question being, is it possible to remove the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 and replace it with WWAN card. I have USB wireless LAN card so I don't bother removing the internal wireless card. The laptops comes with WWAN antenna. It also has SIM Card slot underneath the battery.I have modded the BIOS so there shouldn't be any problem of laptop rejecting the card. Thanks in advance and any help would be really appriciated.  RegardsKemun

Hi NickSteel,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Uninstall the current Wifi driver from the system and do not update the drivers from Windows update, use only ThinkVantage system update utility to update the latest drivers for your system hardware.

Hope this helps!

Not before one of the major WWAN mini-PCI-E card suppliers come out with one!

My guess is that wont happen until some time during 2011.  The global population of working LTE systems is still quite small, with a lot of carriers not scheduling implementation until 2011 timeframes.

Hi,I have Thinkpad T410 2537-BU1 and from lenovo support it is stated "WWAN upgradeable" . I've already opened the laptop and there's no WWAN card so my newbie questions are:Does the antenna already exist within the laptop and I only need to buy a WWAN card? If so are all these cards compatible (Ericsson F3507g, Ericsson F3607gw,HUAWEI EM660) and I can buy anyone of the them plugin and get drivers and that's all?If nope then how can I upgrade the laptop for WWAN? Thanks.

Solved!

Go to Solution.

Answer:T410 compatible WWAN cards.

WWAN upgradeable means that the machine has been issued with thw corresponding WWAN antenna and simcard reader. Proof for that should lie in the fact that in the spot where the WWAN card needs to be fitted, two wires (blue and red) are available to connect to the card. Their connectors are fitted with rubber caps to prevent a short-circuit when not in use. You can only use original Lenovo WWAN cards. For WWAN cards the Lenovo BIOS contains a whitelist that limits the number of cards you can use. To find out which card you need you can check the following link:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74566 In essence, you can use the following:60Y3183 - Gobi 2000 - worldwide use, CDMA and UMTS/HSDPA60Y3225 - Leadcore for China Mobile60Y3227 - Huawei for China Telecom Just fill in the partnumber on eBay

Is the WWAN slot on the side of my new Thinkpad Yoga 15 just for show?  I cannot seem to find out anything.  What kind of SIM card does it take?  What carriers would support it?  What would I tell a cellular carrier I need in order to buy service and plug a SIM card into it.  There seemto be as many SIM card types as there are snowflakes.   What is my IMEI number?  How do I find it?  I know I sound like a dweeb, but I'm really interested in being able to use this feature if in fact it is not just for show.  It would be SO nice to have anywhere cellular service when I travel.

Answer:WWAN on Thinkpad Yoga 15

Hello and welcome,

Not all TP Yogas have WWAN capability.  Most laptops and convertibles have a SIM slot since that's part of the basic structure of the machine but it doesn't necessarily mean there's a WWAN card installed.

What's your MT-M (machine type-model)?  It will look something like 20DQ007YUS - an example which doesn't have a WWAN card installed.

Hi,for European type networks you need mc7710.The rest cards - mc7700/50 - are for US networks, AT&T and Verizon. If you'll get mc7710 on the aftermarket there is a big chance the card will not allow to boot laptop because of whitelist - most of those cards on the market have different IDs then wl has. Answer:ThinkPad Yoga WWAN-antenna

Good day and welcome to the community.

The best reference I can find for the FRU P/N for a WWAN antenna is the FRU BOM:
https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/tp_yoga15_frubom_20150106.pdf
You may be able to use the P/N to search for a source. Normally, I would recommend the maintenance parts site:
http://www-304.ibm.com/shop/americas/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/default/PromotionDisplay?promoName=pa...
but it's not returning any hits on the P/N.

Another reference you should look through, if you haven't already, is your hardware manual:
https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/thinkpad_yoga_15_hmm_en_sp40g75956_01.pd...
Starting on page 89 you'll see what's involved at installing the antenna. Basically, you'd need to tear down most of the LCD/lid assembly, so you should consider your comfort level with a task of this sort before committing to it.

Hope this helps a bit.
Regards.

Hello! I can see the Sim-card port down in the RAM memory bay.I would like to know if after buying appriopiate (from the FRU list for X61) WWAN miniPCI-Express modem - will it work out-of-box? I mean aren't there any limitation beacuse of my ThinkPad model? It's listed as X61 7673-44G.Of course it was originally bought by me without miniPCI-E WWAN. Thank you for this splendid inquire oppurtunity! Cheers

Answer:ThinkPad X61 7673-44G WWAN possibility

Hi rastordon, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community! You need three bits of hardware for WWAN: the SIM card slot, a compatible WWAN card, and the antenna (in the lid).  You have the SIM card slot, and can buy a compatible WWAN card.  The X61 retractable antenna sticks out of the right side of the LCD - you would know if you had one. One can be retrofitted but it is tricky. See the Hardware Maintenance Manual for details.  Hope this helps!

HelloNo, Gobi 5000 and Sierra em/mc7345 cards aren't compatible (not approved) with x230.Gobi 3000 (mc8355), Ericsson F5521/H5321, Sierra mc7700/10/50 with Lenovo FRU p/n are in the compatibility list, depending on the network type you need.

I'm sure lots of people will be asking this, so I think we need a clear answer from Lenovo. For those that haven't ordered a WWAN card in their original config, is the WWAN antenna pre-installed in the display or not?My model came with the SSD, so the location where there is usually a cache mSATA is empty and there is the possibility of installing the WWAN card. I took out the keyboard, and can see the empty slot, but there are no antenna wires for the WWAN just the ones for WLAN that are already connected to the WLAN card. So, the question is: is the WWAN antenna missing or hidden in the display?

Answer:Thinkpad Twist WWAN antenna?

Hi ciuvakNot all models have wwan antennas. As you yourself said, the port in which you want to install a wwan card is msata port. The machines that have wwan port also have a separate antenna wire. Since you dont have it, it might not support wwan card.I may not be correct here since my experience with thinkpad is very low.Regards

Dear All: I have a thinkpad X220 Tablet which does not have the WWAN 3G/GSM card , and I was looking to get one for it since it has the sim card slot and the antenna .But I remember that my Thinkpad W500 has the WWAN module and since I got the X220 Tablet I do not use that one outside of my house anymore and now it's more a desktop , I thought maybe I could put the WWAN module on the W500 inside the X220 Tablet. I know they both use the same port but I'm not sure if they physical fit and if it's really possible to do so. So if you guys know anything about this please let me know, thank you very much guys.

Hey all, I've recently purchased an W540 (model 20BG-00CMH) with as far as I know an internal WWAN adapter. I've upgraded to windows 8.1 and downloaded al the latest drivers. Everything seems to be working fine except...the WWAN? I'm unable to determine what WWAN-adapter is built in my model (Sierra Wireless or Ericsson), but when I open device-manager I see (under Sensors) Sierra Wireless Location Sensor. I've installed a SIM-card, but nowhere can I find the adapter or the connection. Everything used to work with my W520 (so the SIM-card is OK). Can someone help me with this? Or is there a way to contact Lenovo support to determine which adapter is inside my model W540? Thanks for thinking with me!!

Answer:Thinkpad W540 - Problem with WWAN in Windows 8.1

It may not be on the 540 whitelist.  I've yet to check.  WWAN is overtly manged by Lenovo.  They suck for this.

I bought a Thinkpad Edge 13 with 3G module and sim-card reader (Type 0196-2EG). However - it seems it is locked to a single network, the American  "Verizon Wireless"  This is the message I get hen trying to activate my 3G-card using Lenovo toolbox: Congratulations on the purchase of your Lenovo ThinkPad notebook, featuring Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband Built-In. Then I get two options: Sign up - or Close My conclusion is that this card only works with "Verizon Wireless". Which is really a joke . I bought it and I'm going to use it in Norway. Am I correct in this assumption or have I missed something? Anyone else having experiences with similar problems?

I also have a 0196-2EG. You have to create a Location Profile manually. My Edge 13 was delivered with a vodafone SIM. I now am using a t-mobile SIM for which I needed to create a Location Profile in Access Connections manually. It shouldn't be to difficult to do this. I hope your edge 13 will live longer than mine. Mine has died two times in nearly three months time.

You'll need to order the card from Lenovo or it will not work (device whitelist). But other than that you'll have no problem. The machine already has the antenna installed so all you'll need to do is insert the new card, attach the antennas and install the included SIM card.

Answer:Thinkpad x1 carbon gen3 20BS WWAN

HiIf you'e planning to use em7355 in the Italy LTE networks, that card doesn't support them and frequency bands they work in. It's, mainly, for the North America networks, supports CDMA/EV-DO networks and the part of UMTS/HSPA+ (3g) European bands only.Ericsson n5321 is a 3g card (DL speed up to 21 Mbps), doesn't support LTE capabilities. So, if you want LTE for x1c gen2, you have to get another card, Sierra em7345 with Lenovo p/n (FRU).

I have just purchased a thinkpad edge 11 NVY5FUK. I would like to know if I can upgrade this to WWAN enabled by installing the Gobi 2000 WWAN card-  (78Y1399)  via the pci express mini card slot? The body of the laptop doesnt have a sim card slot, however i have seen that the x100e had the sim card slot internally?  Can anyone help? thanks   /

Answer:Thinkpad edge 11 NVY5FUK upgradable to WWAN

Hello mate, if you don't have the sim card slot, it will be hard to upgrade. You will need te modem, an antenna, the sim card reader and change the plastic part for one with the slot.

I had a thinkpad t540p model 20be004eus upgraded to windows 10. It seems that my laptop has wwan device (I can insert a sim card in the battery bay), however, I cannot get my laptop reconized the wwan. I already try these following: - Check spec of my wwan device noted here which it turned out to be EM7355- Downloaded EM7355 package from here.- Install the software, but it only add Sierra location sensor- Tried to add device manual and use source from the aboved download.- Windows did add the device which error 10, I then can update the device to newest version.- After that a network adaptor appeared on windows network, but always in disabled status (can NOT enable) Do any body know how to deal with this problem?

Answer:Thinkpad T540p cannot recognized wwan device

HiAre you sure laptop has the wwan card em7355 installed? Sim card reader presence doesn't mean laptop has built-in wwan card and even wwan antennas. What's the laptop model code, MTM (Machine-Type-Model)? Is there unknown device in the Device Manager? What description does the device with error 10 have? The same question for network adapter.Note, em7355 doesn't have drivers for win10. The only chance wodem could work is to use OS drivers for modem in the MBIM mode. What's the network type (3G, LTE) and mobile broadband operator name are you trying to connect?

My ThinkPad W500 4062-5FU came with a WWAN card. When I got it last summer I popped in a SIM card and tested it out. It worked well. I was able to enter my carriers info and get on the Internet. The GPS worked and it was excellent. Since then I have not used it. Today I put my SIM back in and noticed that when I hit FN-F5 there was no wwan there. In Device manager I cant find the modem. How do I go about geting it working again? I believe that its a Qualcomm card.  Can anyone offer some assistance?

Hi all!  I just ordered the ThinkPax X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (20A70037US, i7, 8GB, 256GB, Touch).  The only thing I wanted and could not get with it is the WWAN Card. I already have the 2011 version of the X1 (1286-CTO) which comes with the Gobi 300-0 WWAN Card (Sierra Wireless MC8355 ? Gobi(TM) 3000).  I have been trawling the net and forums to check if I can pull out the Gobi 3000 from the older X1 and use it successfully in the X1 Carbon 2nd Gen.  Is the Gobi 3000 compatible with X1 Carbon 2nd Gen?  Will drivers or software be an issue?  Are the slots compatible? I welcome any and all advice.  Thanks!

Answer:ThinkPad X1 Carbon WWAN Upgrade Question

Hi, VMarcoUnfortunately Gobi 3000 card you have isn't compatible with X1C Gen 2:- mechanically as it is in the mini pci-e formfactor vs new m.2 formfactor (formerly NGFF) new X1C supports;- logically as your card isn't approved by Lenovo to use in new X1C, it isn't whitelisted for that so as result laptop with that card will be blocked. There are several wwan options for X1C Gen 2 depend of the carrier you'll work with and the speed of wwan access you need:1. Ericsson N5321, HSPA+ 21Mbps:, FRU 04W38422. Gobi 5000 (Sierra Wireless em7355), LTE/EVDO/HSPA+, FRU 04W38012a. the same as item #2., with SIM sku, FRU 04X60383. Sierra Wireless em7345, LTE/HSPA+, FRU 04X6014IMHO the best choice is item #3:- supports both networks class 3g and LTE- supports frequency bands and network carriers almost worldwide, European as well as US (LTE Verizon, AT&T, Sprint)em7345 supports win8/8.1 natively w/o 3rd drivers. For win7 new drivers should be published soon officially. The only lack  there isn't a soluton for card activation within Verizon network yet. Lenovo and Verizon know about that and work for the solution.

Hello! I just buy X1Y without WWAN-modem, because I don't really need it for now, and try to use empty WWAN M.2 slot for SSD like I did with all my previous Thinkpad's - so I install Transcend TS256GMTS400 that perfectly works at my previous Thinkpad Yoga 12... but SSD does not apper at BIOS! At "BIOS - Boot priority" there are some empty device named "NVMe0" - because of absent of external NVMe ports and present of Samsung SSD as different device at M.2 2280 slot, its possible can be support for NVMe-PCIE SSD at that WWAN-slot... but I can not find any SSD M.2 2242 NVMe at all world...  Also I dont find any WWAN-antennas near WWAN-slot. Also because of gluided Yoga touch screens its unpossible to install WWAN-antennas by user without waranty lose. So it seems that X1Yoga's that sell's without WWAN-modems does not support WWAN-modems at all! So after all those problems it seems that at all configurations of Thinkpad X1 without WWAN-modem this WWAN-slot is absolutely useless!!! PS Also X1 have flimsy soiled case, loud keybord and a specially very loud touchpad buttons and trackpad buttons!  Does Thinkpad X1 with such problems are really premium device?!?!?!  Any suggestions for WWAN-SSD?!

Answer:Upgrading WWAN on the ThinkPad X220 Tablet

Yes, but it must be Lenovo branded version of Ericsson F5521gw. It does not support 4G/LTE but 3G/HSPA+ only. Lenovo is refusing to support recent WWAN cards in older models.
