T420SI 2101 ERROR after BIOS update

Question: T420SI 2101 ERROR after BIOS update

Hi, I just updated BIOS ver. from 1.30 to 1.37. Had no problem with it. The system restarted and got the message that " 2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini SATA)" This is a Crucial M4 256Gb SSD, which I'm using since 5 month. Changed it back to my old KINGSTON 64GB SSD , and it works. I've downloaded BIOS ver 1.3 , downgraded the system, but the problem still exists. It boots without any problem with the Kingston , but not with the Crucial. Currently I don't have another computer to test the Crucial SSD if it's broken, but I think it's rather BIOS related. Plese advise what to do now, because I had all my work on that SSD. Regards,Gabor

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T420SI 2101 ERROR after BIOS update

Contact Crucial. If another drive works then it may be dying and the error is a result of the status.

Happy New Year! I repartitioned my hard drive a few days ago, and since then the fingerprint reader isn't detectable, even though it's enabled in BIOS. When I check the properties in Device Manager, I get the following message: Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) Oops ... Will the registry fix iteslef if I uninstall the device all together, and then reinstall? Should I just look for new drivers? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

running 1.40 biosthink I have WWAN model as there is a SIM slot and there are a red and blue wires ready for the 3G wireless card.all lenovo drivers etc checked to latest versionsInstalled 128GB Kingspan which failed to do anything and caused the whole system to be unbootable. Turns out the ssd was dead as it did not work in working usb enclosure.swapped in 64GB msata minipci from my old eee901 it is the correct size for the lenovo slot - it wasn't for the 901 and I am now getting 2101 Detection Error on hdd2 on boot up.I have tried reseating the card, cleaning the pins, reseating, booting to Hirens, Slacko, Gparted, Fedora and not been able to see it as the error code is pre OS... Anything I can do? - roll back drivers, roll back bios, buy specific brand msata any suggestions welcome :-)

Answer:Error 2101 Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata) X220

HiIt seems newer drive is needed or its firmware. Chek out SSD manufacturer site for fw update.Since x220 BIOS 1.16 or something like this one, msata SSD error detection has disappeared. Except of rare cases with some Crucial (or Corsair, didn't remember) and Samsung drives. Also do not use OCZ drives.

Model: T450sEquiped as:Intel i54+4GB RAM256GB SSD (M.2) Configured as boot disk running Win 7 x64500GB HDD as additional storage Issue:Seemingly at random, approx once every one to two weeks while PC is on and at the desktop but not actively being used (meaning no user is sitting in front of it performing tasks) it will error and crash. The error is a black screen with the following error: 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2) Press Esc to continue. According to the user Esc does nothing and the only escape is to long press the physical power button until a power down occurs. On reboot the system comes up without issue. No user has actually seen the crash take place. MY QUESTION(S):1st. Is this most likely an issue with the T450s not being able to reliably boot from the m.2 slot or is this more likely an issue with the SSD installed in the m.2 slot?2nd. Is this something altogether different? Any (knowledgeable) advice or info appreciated.

Answer:T450s Thinkpad - ERROR 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but my experience has been that the Gen4 and later CPUs (like yours) support a very low power state that is incompatible with some devices. (that would make it a problem with the card) Make sure you have the latest BIOS and power manager software installed. Look in the device manager and find the M.2 SSD. There should be a power management tab. Turn off the option to allow the system shut the device off to save energy.

Yeah I am getting the exact same error 2101. Also X220 but 4286-CTO which I brought from US. The BIOS version is 1.17(highest I can find now).Wonder if it is a compatibillity problem or simply the bios is not programmed rightly.

Question: x260 Error 2101

I have a X260 with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD installed connected to the normal SATA cable. Recently, the system ran down in hibernate or sleep mode until the battery was completely drained. The next time I started it up, Iwas presented with an immediate error after the logo of "2101 Detection error on SSD(M.2)". Booting into BIOSor UEFI diagnostics doesn't show any options for diagnosing the SSD. What is odd is there is no M.2 SSD. ?Right nowI am traveling and don't have a SATA-USB cable or another drive to try, but is there any possibility this is something other than my SSD failing completely? System does not boot. Things I have tried already: Reseating the SATA cable, Resetting BIO S to default settings, "Power Cycling" the SSD. All checks in UEFI diagnostics pass.

Hi all. I have a 1 month old t450s bought directly from lenovo. Standard HDD and ram, decided to go with the HD+ IPS monitor (very good) and opted out on the 16gb ssd. I've bought a crucial balistic 8gb stick and a Transcend MTS400 128gb ssd m.2. I've installed everything and it was all working well with the eventual 2101 error on boot after resuming from sleep. Since my OS is installed on the SSD I've disabled the sleep mode, because boot time is less than 5 seconds. Anyway, a week ago I've started experiencing random freezes doing regular tasks (browsing, documents...). Yesterday the computer was frozen, I've power cycled it and I was greeted with a 0xc0000225 blue screen (something on the lines of file system not found).I've tried everything, system repair, changing the UEFI settings, reseating the ssd, running the Lenovo bios diagnostics (all green). Nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, I just received my T430 about 4 days ago and it's working perfectly until I was trying to install important windows updates. As I was rebooting my laptop after the installation (which fails everytime I don't know why), my computer gave me a loud beep and a error code of 2101 detection error. So I searched this forum and found this solution http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074404 from another post that had the same problem as mine.As i was following the steps,( i did cmd, uninstalled express cache, and did disk managment) but as i went on my disk management i could not find my mSATA. I have a 16 gb mSATA and it was working perfectly fine before. I've noticed on my reboot that it took longer to load and the error message would then come up.So my problem is that I cannot view my mSATA disk on my disk managementThankyou!

Answer:2101 Detection Error: Cannot view my mSATA

The Error 2101: Detection error on HDDx miniSata is a BIOS error. This has nothing to do with the operating system you have installed or any drivers. During the POST, the system does not see the miniSata drive. I (like some others) received my new T530 recently, setup it all up and then a few hours later received this error. The solution is simple. You must open up your ThinkPad. Remove the two keyboard screws and remove the keyboard and RE-SEAT the miniSata drive. There is 1 screw holding the board down. Remove it, re-insert it in. Screw everything back up and voila, no more issue. Go to the Lenovo / ThinkPad Guides and Manuals page for your device (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?) and download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad. There are clear instructions (for those less inclined) on how to remove the keyboard. You do NOT need to disconnect the ribbon cable. Simple / carefully slide the keyboard forward and the miniSata drive will be visible and accessible. You can also use the ExpressCache program to get stats on the miniSata drive and see how it is working. Open a Command Prompt (in Administrator Mode) and issue the command: eccmd -info - Display ExpressCache activity informatio eccmd -? - Will show you all options eccmd -format - Will reformat and clear the cache drive. Hopefully, this will help out those out there with this issue. So I've read through the history of the msata and the x220 (4286-CTO) and how the BIOS revisions were required during the middle of last year in order to get the Intel 310 and some others to work. Thinking that my little x220 with Bios revision 1.26 (i7, 8gb, 4286-CTO) would be fine, I purchased a Kingston SSDNow mS100 64GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive SMS100S2/64G and installed it yesterday. The instal went without a hitch, but when I restarted the machine, I received a 2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata) error. I've seen that the 2101 error has been mentioned in relation to a couple of Sandisk msata drives on the forum, but those discussions didn't seem to go anywhere. I just got off my second call with Lenovo support (30 minutes today and 25 minutes last night), only to have them tell me that msata is not supported by my 4286-CTO. That sounds incorrect, as others with the 4286-CTO seem to have luck with Intel and Renice. What am I doing wrong? Is this something that another BIOS revision could cure? At least on one of the sandisk discussions, the OP said that he/she had tested the drive in another computer without a problem, so I don't think it's a problem with the actual drives. Somebody else mentioned that some drives are not compliant with the JEDEC standard, but that doesn't sound like an explanation to me either. Thoughts? Help! Best, sad x220

Answer:2101 Error: X220 with Kingston 64GB msata

I have the same issue with x220. The mSATA I have is the Sandisk SDSA4DH-064G. I can also add that the function of the mSATA is the same regardless of whether the mSATA is used in the mSATA slot or on an adapter card in the SATA hard drive bay (Error is 2100 rather than 2101, but the text is the same). For this reason, I believe the Lenovo BIOS is unable to configure the mSATA drive appropriately. I imagine that Lenovo could quickly resolve this with a new BIOS. I have tested this drive on a desktop consisting of a Asus P9X79 Deluxe + Intel 3960x running Windows 7, 64-bit. Device is recognized by BIOS and WIndows Disk Manager.

Hi there, After about month of use I suddenly got an error: "2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata)". Simply while browsing the internet system hung up and after reboot the error appeared.I've read that people here had same error just after mounting their SSD's - mine worked fine for few weeks. The problem appeared short time after auto-updating BIOS but not just after flash. 2 or 3 restarts gone smoothly.Strange is that now my BIOS version is still 1.16 when on the web since last Wednesday hangs ver. 1.17 - the update went on Saturday.Any ideas how to avoid sending anything (Laptop and SSD) to RMA? I have already RMA ticket from OCZ but want to save some time and don't want to lose the data.Besides I'm not sure if it isn't issue of the new BIOS from Lenovo. Thanks in advance for any help.Gootchio

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

You should try and reseat the drive the computer is not detecting. This should reset the code and hopefully correct the problem.

Hello and welcome,

No personal experience here, but I do see this note on the page you linked:

Note: Only works with systems with mSATA standard connector. NOT compatible with Mini PCIe slot for WWAN/wireless cards

The way I read the Hardware Maintenance Manual that slot is WWAN only, not a WWAN/mSATA combo slot. Could be wrong.

I've read a lot about the 2101 Detection Error of mSATA issue on x220 with mSATA other than intel 310 installed. Last year I purchased a W520 and an Intel 310 mSATA. They worked fine together untill yesterday. I have windows 7 enterprice 64bit installed on the mSATA and linux installed on an SSD. I have a 500GB HDD installed in the ultrabay, as a shared data volume shared by Windows and Linux. Everytime I try to boot windows, it fails. And during the next reboot, the "2101 Detection Error" shows up. To try to solve this problem I have the mSATA reseated and the 2101 error disappears, until I try to boot windows again. Everything works fine IF I ONLY BOOT LINUX. 2101 Detection Error shows up everytime I TRY TO BOOT WINDOWS UP. I've updated the UEFI BIOS to the latest version which is 1.36 but the problem is still there. I've used the lenovo diagnosis tool (bootable usb) to run a set of quick tests and no error detected (except for drive self test either not supported or not passed). Please find the configuration of my laptop below:======================================W520-4270CTOCPU: I7 2720 QMMEMORY: 16GB (4GB SAMSUNG X 4)VIDEO: ... I got this error out of the blue the other day on startup, and now I get it every time I restart. I have tried a number of solutions that I found in these forums (which I'll outline below) but it seems like my system just can't find the drive anymore. Here's what I've done: 1. ran the ExpressCache program via Command Prompt (eccmd.exe -info) and got this error: "**ERROR** ECCmd Request device is not available"2. unistalled the ExpressCache software, shut down, pulled the battery opened up the memory module slot cover, removed the mSATA drive and then re mounted it.3. reinstalled ExpressCache4. I'm trying to reformat the drive, but I am receiving similar errors a. When I try to format the drive (eccmd.exe -format) I get the following error: HFS Volume is not mounted **ERROR** ECCmd Requested device is not available b. When I try to create a partition (eccmd.exe -partition) I get the following error: 0x10df (4319). I looked this up and maybe there are system files missing? I have also tried this but it then says "There is NO mSATA detected, please check mSATA attached" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073737 If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Answer:2101 detection on HDD2 (mini sata) error on my T430

Hello and welcome,

None of the symptoms you describe sound to me like software issues. There is something wrong with the mSATA SSD, or the controller that accesses it - or it needs to be re-inserted in its socket.

Is this machine under warranty? I'd suggest calling support and running this by them. They may suggest re-seating the device in its socket, or may offer replacement or some other option. I don't speak for Lenovo, just offering my personal suggestion.

Greetings!
I have an Optiplex 9010 AIO. This morning I was trying to update the BIOS of my system, from A10 to A13. During the update process it showed an error: "ME FW Update Failed: Internal error: FWU_Buffer " - please see the photo below. Although the update failed on the Management Engine part, it still boots up and running OK. I tried couple of times to update the BIOS, and each time I got the same error. I tried to flash the A12 and A11 BIOS as well, A12 gives same error, and A11 has the same Management Engine version hence no use.
Any help on this is very much appreciated!

Hi everyone, I receive an error "BIOS directory cannot be found." when I try to update my W520 to 1.26 bios (trying to get rid of the cooler pulsing). I checked:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Wrong-BIOS-installed-on-W500/td-p/172133/page/...But that doesn't seem to be my case. I can't find anything recent on such problem. I downloaded and tried both: the windows update utility (version 10.11) and burned CD-ISO file - both return the same error: "BIOS directory cannot be found." Below is msinfo32 list in case someone has an idea. Hi. I have a T430s (original owner). At boot-up, I receive a "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata)", BUT I don't use a Mini SATA!! Windows 10; All drivers current via Lenovo system update (incl. bios 2.69).I have a Crucial SSD drive; I have verified Crucial SSD has latest firmware.I do not have (and have not had) a Mini SATA card installed - this is why the error is so weird to me.I DID recently change the Wifi Switch and cable (which is when the error started showing)The wires that would feed the Mini SSD are still covered with tape from the factory (I forget the colors)I have removed the battery, internal battery and power (and rebooted). I have reseated the SSD and the DVD drive (and rebooted).I do not have Express software installed; the software that would control the Mini SATA drive (I can't see any "express" software in Add / Remove programs) Can you help me with this annoying mystery?

I've tried many times to install the latest critical BIOS update, using Lenovo System Update, and every time it attempts to, it fails after telling me in a popup that I need to turn the system off and make sure I have a fully charged battery. I rarely rely on battery power and use AC primarily, and I used Power Manager twice to do a full reset, just in case. I can't believe I would need to buy a new battery in order to install it, because the battery works just fine. I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit), and exhausted every other update or option, unless there's something else I'm not aware of. Is it just the software toying with me?

Answer:[T530] Battery error message won't allow BIOS update in System Update

Hello and welcomeDo not perform the BIOS update from within the TVSU. It's much safer to use CD/DVD and ISO image from the T530 support page.

I have a new SSD drive and did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. I have the 2013 fingerprint software file saved in my downloads folder, but am trying to find out if there's a newer version before I install that one. None of the website links are working. My model/serial number aren't accepted, the drivers & software link comes up blank, as does the contact us page. Can anyone tell me if the 2013 file is the most recent? If it's not, suggest how can I access the correct driver page when none of the links are working? Thanks.

Just got the new Spectre x360 with i7 Kaby Lake processor. I like most everything about it, but it gets hot in the upper left hand corner, and the temps are in the 80-90 range during normal load. Researched possible solutions, and one common solution seems to be making sure the Bios is updated. HP Assistant coincidentally popped in a message about an updated Bios available. Perfect timing, so I thought. Bios update downloaded ok, but during installation, I got the error message c2-Error: Region is write protected. Thoughts on how to update the Bios? I know that one of the recommendations is not to update the Bios unless something is not working. Everything seems to be working fine, but I'm thinking I should update he Bios anyway to see if it solves the heat problem. Thoughts on that? Thanks.

I have a Lenovo 3000 Y410 Notebook (Model 7757). It is under warranty. Since few days, I have been experiencing problems with reading CD/DVD's in my drive. However, I am able to write CD/DVD's. I went to this page http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=6 and updated Firmware update for Optiarc DVD-RW/CD-RW drive, model AD-7560A. Then, I tried to update the BIOS. But, I am getting the following error message: Cannot load driver C:\Bios\05CN63WW\PHLASHNT.SYS. Please check your accounts, if you have no adminstrator privilege, please log in ! Access is denied. Error code: 5 Today, I called Lenovo Customer Care in the US. The representative asked me to visit http://zeroserenity.com/?page_id=121 and run Upper and Lower Filters Reset (in General Tools Section). I again got the following error message: Error: Access denied. Access is denied. <5> Actually, I have an administrator account. The laptop has only 2 accounts. Mine is administrator account and the other one is limited account. I used admin account to run these operations. I closed Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet security also. The representative suggested to backup all data and run one-touch system restore. She said that this could remove the glitch that the laptop is having. I would like to do this as a last resort. Is there any option available to solve this ??? Thanks in advance.

Question: Bios update error

HELP! having trouble since updating my Mainboard bios...:-(

ASUS P4S800D

hadn't updated the bios since initial install from MB CD. (Bios version 1005.002)
Went to main ASUS site and downloaded update 1011, but ever since then PC is wieding out! now when press shutdown, hybenate etc. it restarts...tried to rollback to older bios but have same problem

also the CD Rom and DVD rom are not responding anymore (unless I go to their properties and press "populate"?)

Any help...much appreciated!!

Answer:Bios update error

Welcome to Techspot!
It sounds like your machine was fine before the Flash, if this true, you have just learned Rule # 1 about updating.
If it ain't broke don't fix it.Generally Flashing rom files is very touchy business, and those updates are for specific problems. If you are not experiencing those specific problems you really should not do it.
Have you tried to Clear your CMOS ?
How many update files are availible between the file you had and the file you updated to?
If there is at least 1 file in this group, I would try it.
Also, if your bios is recognizing the Rom drives properly. Then just uninstall the drives in device Manager and reboot , this will force Windows to reinstall them properly.

Question: BIOS Update Error

Recently I got into the device manager while doing some changes and found that the lenovo firmware had an error, saying that it cannot start. I rolled back the driver to the microsoft driver, which works fine now. I went and downloaded the update for my notebook and started to install. I started, clicked yes that i was sure for the laptop model, and got an error. Error states "Runtime Error (at1:708): Out of string range." I did some googling but nothing like this. I tried redownloading the program and received the same problem. Any ideas what could be causing this / how to fix this? Currently running Windows 10 x64, the notebook is a Lenovo Edge 2 1580.

Question: bios update error

I'm updating to the Amazon 3.11 Bios for HP Pavilion 7955. I create a boot disk with the changes on it and reboot. It's supposed to give me an option of "minimal boot" according to the instructions, but just goes straight to the A;> prompt. Then when I type in BIOSupdt it appears to run but aborts with the error message "cannot find BIOS's hook" I can't find anything about this error message anywhere.

Answer:bios update error

I think you've missed something in the update instructions. Rather than just tell you what it is, I want you to go back through those instructions until you understand them thoroughly, step by step. A bios flash must be done correctly or you can turn a useful and working computer into a complete boat anchor. The Bios flash is an easy process, but also very exact. I would also advise against using any of the windows O/S Bios utilities for this process. Post again if you still have ????'s

Question: BIOS update error

Hi, I updated my BIOS today and I am 100% sure it is the right one because it was for the motherboard that I have. Nothing major but I am having a few problems:

The screen resolution seems to set itself to 800x600 when it should be 1024x768. It does this every so often when I turn on my computer.

I can't save any BIOS setting e.g. I noticed it was trying to find a floppy drive so I went in to the BIOS and disabled the floppy settings then saved and exited. It still tried to find it and it was the same as before in the settings.

Any suggestions.

Thanks.

I have Lenovo B50-30. Not Touch. I originaly had Windows 7, but it was terrible and I installed Windows 7. I installed all the drivers and decided to update BIOS. so this happened: I updated Bios from v2.(something) to v3.01. After I updated it the Lenovo logo changed from the previous italics type to this now. and, Windows Error Recovery is stuck in a loop to the two options: Launch Startup Repair (reccomended) and Start Windows normally. The first option leads to another error saying - A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Your BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor for updated BIOS.Technical information:***Stop: 0x000000045 (.....) And the option to start Windows normally only gets me back to the same Recovery screen. I tried Safe Mode. Nothing. Only gets me back in the loop. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop. I basically want to try and restore Bios to the previous version to see if that helps. I tried something called BIOS Back Flash, but nothing happend. Note that I don't have CD Rom, Only USB ports. I am desperately in need of help guys. Please help!!!!!

Hello to all
i wanna ask about update bios 1.30 to 1.80. When I update ERROR 151?

L20 PSL25E-00100UPL

Answer:Sat Pro L20-102 BIOS 1.3 update "error 151"

Hi

I have found a information on the BIOS download page that the BIOS 1.8 Update is only for models of the L20 Series which are containing "PSL2X", "PSL2Y" or "PSL2Z" in the model-number.

Your unit has a PSL25E number. In this case the 1.8 BIOS is NOT compatible with your unit!
The update procedure with this BIOS version can damage the motherboard.

The latest compatible BIOS version for your unit is V1.3.

Please note: It?s not important to update the BIOS if you don?t have any serious issues on you notebook. The BIOS upgrade procedure is very risky because like you know now the wrong BIOS or procedure can damage the motherboard!!!

Hi, I need help. I bought a (used) T60 about 3 Years ago, everything worked fine until today. Today I made a bios update with the original Thinkpad Software and the T60 doesn't boot anymore. It stops the boot process with the "Error 1802 unauthorized miniPCI network card". I didn't change anything, the hardware is the same as the last 3 Years. How can I solve this? The old bios was backuped during update process. Is there a way to restore it? Would it solve the problem ? Edit: Another issue: When I pressed the blue "thinkvantage" button at the beginning ofthe boot process, I was able to change boot order by pressing F12 and to boot from CD. After todays BIOS upgrade I get to the menu, where I can go into the BIOS Configuration with F2 and should be able to select alternative boot order with F12. But that doesn't work, the T60 freezes then. Changing boot order permantly within the BIOS doesn't work either, it looks, as if the CD-ROM Drive isn't properly there. It worked perfectly before the BIOS-upgrade. Thx in advance for any help. Paulo P.

Answer:T60 - Error 1802 after Bios update

Welcome to the forum!

A couple of possible scenarios come to mind, but it's most likely that the machine had a "modded" non-Lenovo BIOS installed in order to enable the use of a non-Lenovo wireless card. By flashing the BIOS with a standard one, you've reverted to the standard "white list" of approved cards in BIOS.

Could you remove the wireless card and let us know what's written on it, and whether there's a FRU number?

Answer:Bios update and win8 error

If the PC is running Windows XP then I would advise to NOT update to Windows 8.

Chances are you will not be able to find any drivers for the system and it will cause issues.

Do not update the BIOS as choosing the wrong BIOS or updating incorrectly will cause the PC to become a big paper weight.

I used Acronis Disk Director 10, resized my D: drive, and created in the free space a FAT16 partition. It doesn't need to be huge, I set it to the minimum, about 7 MB, and set the partition to Primary. I copied the .ROM file to the new drive E:, and reboot. Upon rebooting, I hit F4, entered the Easy Flash program, and it immediately detected the new drive E:. The BIOS updated itself, and the date shown on the update screen read 03/31/08. Good enough for me. The system will power down completely when its done. Now, when I booted up the system, Windows Vista crashed on the bootup screen, and my heart skipped a beat. Turns out that when you reflash the BIOS, it resets all the default settings. I had the SATA controller set to compatability mode when I installed Vista, so all I needed to do after the reflash is set it back to compatability mode. Windows Vista booted up without a hiccup after that. Yay!Message Edited by A30N on 04-17-2008 12:00 AM

I formatted with the only option available (NTFS) and copied the BIOS update there. It worked perfectly! Now... Does anyone know what this update does?? It did not fix the sound issue! New X250 notebook shipped with BIOS version 1.13, and I'd like to update it to 1.17, becouse it has Windows 10 support, and I'm having power management issues with that OS. (cannot wake up from sleep, system freeze when closing lid, even with sleep turned off in that case.) I can successfully downgrade my BIOS to 1.12, 1.11, but I cannot upgrade it to 1.16 or 1.17 (cannot download 1.13, it's revoked). The update starts in Windows, restarts, but then an error message stops the update: Finished PUP flashing, Error Code: Unknown error code (0xC),ADDITIONAL_DATA:0x7Error reported from PFAT: Unknown ErrorStatus of TdkBiosRomWrite: 1ERROR 102 : Failed to perform flash After rebooting, I can comfirm that the update failed. It's strange, as I mentioned, 1.12, 1.11 can be flashed without problems.BIOS rollback protection is off, secure boot is off, BIOS user flash is enabled.I've run out of options, any advice?

Answer:BIOS cannot update, ERROR CODE 102

Good day and welcome to the community.

Sorry you're having difficulty.
If you have access to a USB CD/DVD drive, you could try using the bootable disk method:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x25...
but you might want to speak with Support (info below) about this first. A failed BIOS upgrade can be very difficult to recover from.

Regards.

Answer:Tecra M11 - BIOS Update Error

Hi,

What is the model number of your M11?

PTM???-??????

Are you using XP or Win7?

Did you uninstall any pre-installed Toshiba applications?

If you have Win7, go to the Toshiba website and download/install the Tecra M11 "Value Added Package", then try the BIOS again.

Hi,

I have just tried updating my bios for my Asus P5B mobo. I downloaded the latest update from the Asus website, unzipped it and copied it to a flash usb drive and then restarted my PC. On restart I initiated the EZ flash, selected update and ran the new bios change.

Now however I can onyl start my computer in safe mode. If I try to start normally the windows Vista loading bar appears, then disappears and all I'am left with is my mouse moving on a black screen. Can anyone help me with this?

Thankyou,

Hello, please could you give me advice - I made a BIOS update (Version: 01.42Ap1). This update was strongly recommended in program HP support assistant. Immediately after update the error 601 occurred (for the first time...). The notebook was bought in 6-2015 and it is used only occasionally. The Battery Test in HP Support Assistant shows 0%. The program BatteryInfoView (BIV) shows Battery Level Wear 100% (which means that the battery is 100% ok). On my old (working) notebook EliteBook 8540p the BIV shows 35% level. I think that the battery is ok but something in BIOS is incorrect.Thank you for your advice.Tomas BIV - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/battery_information_view.html

As far as I know this error appears if you use a wrong BIOS version.

What Satellite A660-xxx do you have?

The Toshiba European driver page provides a BIOS v2.10 but only for Satellite A660 *PSAW9E* series.

Please check this!!

Hi I'm a new member.

I recently decided to build my first PC

Parts were:
Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 MoBo
Intel i5 3570K - LGA 1155
DDR3 Single stick 8GB G-Skill 1600
GeForce GTX 660 2GD5/OC
Seagate Barracuder SATA 3 1TB
875w PSU

Now for the problem,

I installed everything correctly and got to POST so I decided to follow most Internet forum instructions to update my BIOS so I did so over the Internet flash update from the AsRock BIOS setup

The problems arose after trying to update it via the Internet. Now the motherboard won't even get to POST or show any signs or working on a monitor, the fans for ten graphics card CPU and chassis all work, the PSU is working fine. But the Dr. Debug is showing the status code 00 which states in the description is that it is "not used"

I don't know what to do, iv taken out the graphics card and tried still the same disconnected everything except the 1155 socket and all pins are fine on the PCIe slots and RAM

Any help would be appreciated

ps

I have a spare Gigabyte gt 630 2GB hanging round and was wondering if I can get the MoBo to work will it be worth sticking the 630 in with the 660 for any improvements however slight until I can afford another 660 for SLI?

Answer:Asrock Extreme 4 Z77 - BIOS update error

"Now the motherboard won't even get to POST or show any signs or working on a monitor" You might be able to get the motherboard to respond by removing the battery for a few minutes. If not, the motherboard may need to be replaced

Hi,

I've Qosmio F60-10v laptop and when I want to update my BIOS to bios-20100909155041 version.

I'm getting the below error in red. I'm running the update with admin rights and I'm using the compatible update which is directly downloaded from toshiba's official site.

TOSHIBA BIOS Package Ver.4.0.7

Error: Preparing to update was failed.
Some errors occured. (Error Code = 15)

Can anybody has got any idea about the problem ? How can I update the BIOS, is there any alternative ?

Answer:Qosmio F60 BIOS update (error code 15)

Maybe stupid question now but why you want to update BIOS?
You know, many people do this just to have newest version although nothing will be changed and notebook will run as before.

I don?t know why this happen. This is question for Toshiba software engineers.

By the way: have you closed all running applications before you started BIOS update?

I have had a bios error on my brand new Inspiron 1420 laptop twice now--causing a blue screen.

Unfortuantely, both times my computer has restarted too quickly for me to read the entire screen. I just know I saw the word "bios."

Should I update something? If so, what? Is there any way to retrieve what my error said?

The blue screen happened when I was doing several things--chatting on AIM, unzipping music files on my computer, and running iTunes with firefox open.

There is no relation between Bios and hard drive. They will reflash your Bios, all data on you hard drive will be untouched. But you should know that Bios reflash is not free procedure, you will have to pay.

there is an error occured, please check below items bios version above 210.
battery capacity more tahn 10%
AC is attached

i got to say after my lots of previous ways to fix the main problem my battery charging is 0 %
what can i do to make my bios update?

Answer:Satellite L505-13T - BIOS update error

I guess the battery charged properly in the past even if the BIOS was not up to date…
Therefore I’m not quite sure if it’s really a BIOS issue.

Anyway, try to uninstall the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
This can be found in device manager -> battery

After that, check if the battery would start the charging procedure.

Hi there,

Trying to update one of my employees laptops with bios 1.50 (C660) and it is displaying an error message displaying 3 possible causes. Ac adapter not plugged in (it is) battery is less than 10% (it isnt) and BIOS is more up to date than version 1.50. When I tried the update the laptop was currently running 1.00. So I updated the bios to 1.30 with no problems but when trying to update to 1.50 it still displays the error.

Any ideas? Need to get the bios installed as it seems to fix the typing issues that the laptop has been suffering from.

Thanks

For BIOS update it?s necessary that Value Added Package is installed and you run the update as Administrator. Make also sure that battery is fully charged.

What is the model number of C660?

Hello,I already asked this in the german community but didnt get any answer. So let me try it here: On my W520 (bought April 2012) I did a BIOS update. After this update the notebook is running with LENOVO 8BET58WW (1.38 ), 06.07.2012. Since this update I have a problem when my notebook is returning from hibernate and snooze mode. Please see the picture below. It means: ?Error while undocking?? . Means: It tells me that it is not able to undock the Utraby Harddisk.Funny thing: I didn?t try to undock it. The notebook starts from hibernate and the first thing it does is throwing this error. Constantly. No software is running or accessing the drive. It is a Ultrabay III adapter including a harddisk as a D drive. Before this BIOS update I never had this error. I already rebooted the notebook and undocked the harddrive to test if this error would disappear. But no chance. After pressing the ok button everything works. But this error pops up every time and is annoying, How can we get rid of it?. Merci.

Answer:W520 Error while undocking after BIOS Update

You could try going back to BIOS 1.36 - the last BIOS to support 1600 Mhz RAM. What was the BIOS version you were running prior to the "upgrade"?

I recently bought a Geforce 6600 GT. It’s nice when it works, but occasionally, I get an error that prevents it from functioning. The error seems to occur on an intermittent basis – sometimes when I boot up, it will be present, and sometimes it won’t be. The only indication of the error is when the “Windows is Starting up/Loading your personal settings” boxes pop-up – when the error is occurring, those boxes are distorted. And then if any kind of program with 3d acceleration tries to run, the whole system locks up. And then I reboot, and hope for the best.

It doesn’t always occur, but it’s a pain when it does – I’m developing a reboot phobia. Tech support for the card said to update my motherboard drivers, tech support for the motherboard says to update my BIOS and the BIOS people want to charge me $60 USD for a floppy disc.

I’m guessing the BIOS is indeed the problem (Award BIOS, apparently from 2001…yikes). But $60 seems a bit steep in our modern age of miracles. Are there sites out there with free BIOS updates, or is this just the nature of the BIOS beast?

Answer:6600GT error/motherboard BIOS update

I'm not totally sure how to help you, but I know in order for others to help you out, they'll need to know what kind of motherboard you have.

Dell Vostro 1510 laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

I noticed svchost.exe was using 100% of CPU.

I did the following that did NOTresolve the issue:

1. I installed a new hard drive (W7)

2. I went to task manager / processes / "show processes from all users" / and attempted to stop all the related services, approximately 8. 4 of them stopped and no improvement. The other 4 would not let me stop them.

3. I've been reading Dell, SevenForums.com and several other related sites, found many causes/solutions, tried them all but haven't resolved it.

4. I removed fan and cleaned out all dust. Fan runs fine. Thermal paste is good.

5. Installed CPUID HW MONITOR and cpu is not running hot. it's at 76 celsius (67 - 85 is the acceptable range)

6. Ran malwarebytes, custom scan. Nothing found.

7. Ran Avast boot time scan, nothing found.

*** The strangest thing is that my Bios version is A12. I downloaded A13 and A15 from Dell.com. When I attempt the Bios flash I get an error message that the "winphlash sw tool by phoenix tech cannot load driver. This driver has been blocked error code 1275. - Therefore, is there a glitch/virus in the Bios causing this? Or is it unrelated and something else is causing it?

Thanks in advance!

Greetings all,

Portege R830-138 Current BIOS 3.7

I am unable to update the BIOS to either 3.8 or the latest 3.9 version. Error: This Computer Is Not Supported.

VAP is installed and modules are working. A previous forum post suggested that it may be related to the recent Intel Management Interface firmware update which I had applied and am unable to uninstall or rollback.

Any suggestions?

THKS!

Answer:Portege R830 - BIOS 3.9 Update Error

Hi

A friend of mine has updated the BIOS from 3.7 to 3.9 without any big problems.
It could be possible that you cannot update the BIOS because of the missing or disabled TVALZ services.

Go to Control panel -> Administrative Tools icon and click services.

Here you can check if the TVALZ service is available ? if its available, enable it and then try to update the BIOS.

If this will not work, you will need to recover the notebook using Recovery HDD or Recovery disk? The BIOS update should functions using the Toshiba factory settings

Good morning,

I have a Satellite U400-112 with Windows 7-64bit OS. I cannot upgrade my system from v4.00 to v4.70 either from windows or from DOS.

Specifically, when the upgrade process starts, and after the file check it stucks without any progress. This error stands for both versions (DOS & Windows).
I have a strong feeling that is a corrupted bios file. If someone can justify my feeling or has a correct BIOS file he/she is welcome to respond.

Thank you in advance,

Ioannis

Answer:Re: Satellite U400-112 - BIOS update error

Hi buddy,

BIOS update from DOS is not possible because the updates are only Windows based.
Anyway, what BIOS update error you get exactly?

If you try to update, make sure that Value Added Package is installed. That?s necessary for BIOS update program.

But why do you want to update it? Normally it?s not necessary if your system runs ok.
