RE: Installing Sierra Wireless MC7710 into Lenovo thinkpad T420s

Question: RE: Installing Sierra Wireless MC7710 into Lenovo thinkpad T420s

Guys,Im thinking of getting t420s, but the critical condition for me is to be able to plug in Sierra Wireless MC7710,I know that its not on the whitelist, but lets just assume that I can patch BIOS and actually make it work, will be possible technically to plug in Sierra Wireless MC7710 into t420s?Is there a slot for it? And are there enough antenna cords for it as well?I've seen some screens and it seems that Wi-Fi card is using 3 antenna cords and there are only 2 spare whereas MC7710 requires 3 antenna cords?Cords are seen here - http://www.notebookreview.com/shared/picture.asp?f=58673Could someone clarify please. Many thanks in advance !D

Preferred Solution: RE: Installing Sierra Wireless MC7710 into Lenovo thinkpad T420s

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: RE: Installing Sierra Wireless MC7710 into Lenovo thinkpad T420s

One of the three antenna connectors on the MC7710 is for the GPS antenna. This could mean that it could work fine with the two antennas that are available.

Will Lenovo add official support for Sierra Wireless MC7710 http://www.sierrawireless.com/productsandservices/AirPrime/Wireless_Modules/High-speed/MC7710.aspx please ? It is LTE/HSPA+ WWAN "Gobi 4000" module for Europe region. By support I mean to whitelist the device in BIOS at least, assuming the WWAN card will be Lenovo branded one for X230 model. Please consider that many of us could wait for X230 with official 4G WWAN support but the keyboard layout change was unacceptable so we bought X220 instead. Because Lenovo don't want to introduce ThinkPad classic keyboard as X230 option they could allow X220 owners to use up-to-date WWAN cards instead.

Answer:X220 support for 4G/LTE Sierra Wireless MC7710 WWA...

There is a little bit problem for implementing full featured LTE support in x220 - mc7710 needs 3 antennas. Perhaps one of them is for GPS only, I don't have clear information. MC7700/7750 support restricted number of bands for US market so may be they don't need 3rd antenna in x230. We'll see some answers when x230' parts list will be published and compare antennas FRU.But your request is very important for me too.

Hello, I just installed a mc7710 modem in my X230 laptop, it shows up the first time I install in but after reboot itīs gone?? I tried the mc7710 in another laptop (HP) and it works out of the box when drivers from sierra homepage is installed. I also discoverd that if i tell the X230 to hibernate and then wakeīs it up the device shows up for about ten seconds and then disapears again. The only thing that is visible in devicemanager is some "Sierra wireless locator" , thats the only thing about th mc7710 that is vissible al the time. I have upgraded to the latest firmware and latest bios, running win 10 but I can install win 7 if requierd. My guess is that there is some "sleep-mode" or something that turns off the device but where can I find the setting for that?? P.S The 3G modem that where installed previous to the mc7710 was working properly.

Answer:X230 Sierra mc7710 modem

HiDoesn't the mc7710 exist in the "Network Adapters" thread of the Device Manager? Is there mc7710 related port in the "Port" thread? Are there unknown devices in the DM after mc7710 disappears? Is the OS win8/8.1? What fw and drivers are installed? What USB vid/pid IDs does mc7710 have while it's visible in the DM?I didn't hear about such mc7710 behaviour earlier. W/o additional information I'd assume the cause is USB Selective Suspend Mode and its drivers.

Hi all,I've really been helped by this forum in the past, and really hope you can help with this issue.I've installed the card and installed the driver - all of which has gone down without a hitch. The compute recognises the card with no issues. Unfortunately, however, when a simcard is inserted it does not register the simcard whatsoever - 'Insert sim' is still present. In my searches on this forum it seems this problem is Windows 10 specific - the system does recognise the wireless card but does not recognise the simcard reader. Anecdotally, it seems to work for others when using Windows 7 (although that wouldn't be a fantastic solution in my situation.)Is there any solution for this?Thank you in advance for your time and any responses!Jack

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T450s, Sierra EM7345 and Windows 1...

Hello, jraynerwin10 doesn't need wwan card's manufacturer drivers for the normal mobile connection, it has a native support that. Additional drivers are needed for the legacy location features via NMEA port, for the custom wwan card virtual devices configuration (like NDIS port etc). So, the 1st thought modem firmware is outdated. Check it out:open command prompt window (cmd) and type in the following stringnetsh mbn sh cap int=*Copy and past an output here (remove Device ID for your privacy).Another version is connection settings, APN mainly. Do you see a cellular network item in the win10 network settings?Anyway, I hope mobile device em7345 is present in the Device Manager w/out errors.

I have a W520 and am looking to purchase a WWAN card.  I see that Sierra Wireless has the MC7750 card available (supports LTE, EV-DO and HSPA+).   Will the W520 support LTE, or am I just wasting my money getting a WWAN card with LTE support?

Answer:ThinkPad W520 and Sierra Wireless MC7750

The short answer: get the MC7750!Probably the biggest improvement isn't the raw download/upload speed of the unit, but rather the reduced network latencies. All the advertisements are only talking about the improvements in MBps, probably because it's the easiest thing to describe to people in 30 seconds or on a billboard. In reality MBps only matters if you are watching video, or downloading large files. Most of the delay time for other applications comes from the several hundred milliseconds it takes the computers to make a round trip communication. Each time you click something on the web, there are several rounds of communication which can add up. If your current connection has a 400ms delay (as mine does) it takes several seconds each time for anything to happen. Some better connections like HSPA are supposed to have about 100ms latency, but LTE is going to push that down to about 40ms.  Can you tell that I'm excited about getting LTE  I'm planning on getting the MC7750 as soon as Lenovo releases it. Unfortunately, every time I call in, I seem to be told that it's just a month or so away. I've been hearing that line for almost 4 months now. I was also told that I will be able to upgrade my existng x220, which had better be true otherwise I'm going to be royally pissed because I bought the system with that understanding. You may find my thread on the MC7750 for the x220 device interesting.http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Does-quot-Bro... I got a W520 and installed the card, drivers and hardware is seen properly (I'm using Win7 x64bit)but it keeps looking like it is turned off (how you turn off wifi).  Though when I press FN+F5 it doesn't show mobile broadband, only wifi and bluetooth I use the AirCard Watcher app and it keep saying Airplane Mode, radio is off.when I disable and enable the card via network settings.    The Aircard watch see the card for about a split second when I reenable it but then it goes right backto airplane mode.. I also tried using the Lenovo access connection and when I try to connect to mobile broadband . it keep saying no signal or sim not activated  BTW: I have a working Verizon Sim card that I use for a usb dongle and I have a x240 with broadband card that works fine with the SIM  so it's not a sim card problem.

To whom it may concern, The wireless drivers on my Lenovo Thinkpad T60p 2007-8EU L39Y4Y8, are not working. I have uninstalled them, and re-installed them. Same files I have used after several reformats of the machine. However, this time, the Lenovo Thinkvantage software I used to turn on and configure WiFi, is apparently also missing from the box.  I had the executable, which I have used every time I have reformated the machine, installed it, downloaded patches, etc. Sitll canīt find the WiFi menu. I see my options as 1) Re download the drivers and ThinkVantage software ... and maybe... 2) Reformat everything again? Comments? Suggestions? Links to the right stuff appreciated.  Navigating this site, increasingly difficult. Regards, Jean-Pierre

Answer:thinkpad t420s wireless

No there is no way around this. The T420s has a whitelist, and you can only use cards from that whitelist. Unless you find a way to flash a modded BIOS, which doesn't work last time I checked.See part number #5 in the figure: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd009913You can order these parts from Lenovo if you want to be 100% certain that they work.Part number you may want is: 60Y3233

Hi, I have registered just to confirm that I am nor the only one who think the new ThinkPad T420s is a disappintment.I have had nearly every single ThinkPad between my hands and have recently used the T410s and W520 extensively. The T410s is so much better than the T420s that I simply don't see myself ordering anymore T420s units. Just to highlight a few of the things that really really disappoints me: 1, The battery time is awfull, really awfull. Where I got 3,5 hour of battery time on the T410s I only have 2 hours on the T420s!2, It's not possible to use Optimus with docking station...why even make it - if business can't use it? Isn't the T/W's targeted for business users anymore?3, The screen is really dull and has a noticeable pixel/door effect - the T410s had neither.4, The machine gets really hot and generates a lot of noise compared to -all- the other comparable machines aka T400/T410s/t420.

Answer:New Lenovo ThinkPad T420s/X1 = HUGE letdown

what do you mean you can't use optimus with docking station? which docking station do you have? also have you tried to update the bios? 2 hrs for a T420s does sound on the short side.

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Answer:Lenovo T410 Sierra Wireless Aircard and 3G SIM?

@KevB,Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think the Sierra WWAN card is supported on the ThinkPad, I can't seem to find the drivers for Sierra card when checking on the support site.Drivers for WWAN for T410 based on the Lenovo Support site are for the following modems.-Ericsson-HuaWei-Qualcomm-LeadcoreThe sim slot for the WWAN would be behind the battery. Remove the battery and you can see the slot with the plastic to pull the dummy sim card out. Note that even if there is no modem installed, there still would be a dummy slot there.

Answer:WWAN card 3G Lenovo branded or Sierra Wireless

Hello,I have done some deep research on this matter for myself, I have an x61 and would like to swap the factory installed wwan card with a gsm card by Sierra but not with Lenovo FRU. The Thinkpad bios will not accept parts other than the ones approved by lenovo and on which there is lenovo FRU#, even if from the same manufacturer, the "Whitelist" is here:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62906 if you would install a generic part non lenovo approved, the bios will not boot the system, give you an error message  and tell you to remove the card. There is a solution for this issue, it can be found here:  http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=55837&start=300 but it involves flashing your machine with a modified bios which could be risky. I am going to try it because my preinstalled wwan card is for services by Vrison in the USA, I need a GSM card for Europe and other locations with GSM providers only, I will remove the original which is useless for me and replace it with a non Lenovo Sierra MC8775 WWAN HSDPA 3G card and flash the bios. Hope this helps Message Edited by pandavi on 01-28-2009 12:55 AM

Summary
I ordered a Thinkpad T420S, I love it, but it came with a serious manufacturing defect in the display and because the wireless card doesn't work well. There's a bright white area just left of center of the display. It's not a pixel problem, it looks like a light behind the screen that's shining through somehow. I called support, they said return it via EasyServ and the display would be replaced and the wireless card could be swapped out for the Intel option (which was a free option when I ordered the device). I didn't hear back for more than a week. I called in, and they say that the repair -on my unused, brand new laptop- would cost more than $700.

The Details
I ordered a laptop on 8 December 2011 through Lenovo's website, order #2J23X1. The display was defective, with a large white area on the screen all the time. The wireless card wouldn't work with most of the networks that I use regularly. I called 800.426.7416 and spoke with Mxxxxx. He recommended that I return the laptop via EasyServ because that would be faster than returning the laptop and then re-ordering the same one. He assured me that the display and wireless card replacement would be no problem. I had no preference besides needed the laptop as soon as possible for my work. If I had been advised to return the laptop at this point, I would not be having any problems right now.

Up until a recent Lenovo update I was able to connect to the Internet by either using the embedded Sierra Wireless antenna within my T61 or, more recently, through a tether connected to my Blackberry PDA.  After a recent Lenovo update to my system the drivers that allow my system to find these devices have vanished.  As such, I am no longer able to connect through Sierra Wireless device or Blackberry PDA.  Went a few rounds with Verizon but their conclusion was that the drivers are gone and that I need to 'reload Windows XP' to my system.  Not a great option.  Anybody have any sense of this problem, if so, a solution other than a complete reload of Windows?

Hello, Has anyone tried installation of a sierra wireless MC7750 card on a X220 tablet? I've gotten hold of a MC7750 and intend to install it on my X220 tablet and try it with Verizon 4G network. Thanks,Anand

Answer:Thinkpad X220 Tablet - Installation of sierra wire...

I have not tried it, but I can tell you that most likely it will not work in the default configuration.  Lenovo machines have a whitelist that checks to see if the WWAN card inserted into the machine is regonized and certified.  If the machine doesn't recognize the card it will display an 1804 error.  Since Lenovo doesn't yet sell these cards yet, it's unlikely that this card is on their whitelist. Some people modify their BIOSes to recognize cards that Lenovo hasn't put on their list yet.  I believe you can find such moded BIOSes here: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Removed-whitelist-removal-Lenovo-ThinkPad-x220-v1-21 or alternatively maybe in the forums in http://www.mydigitallife.info/ There may be newer versions of the BIOS in the same forum, but I haven't checked in a while. I've been waiting for months for Lenovo to support the MC7750, or another LTE card like it.  I've been told by several sales people that "it's right around the corner".  Pretty much hogwash so far.  I haven't gone the step of ordering one of these card yet hoping that Lenovo will officially support it soon.  Please post back though if you do end up moding your bios.  I'm curious to know how well it works.  Also read up on taping pin 20.  Some people say it's necessary in addition to moding the bios. Good luck.

Hi Guys,First off, thank you for this very wonderful resource. Now, I will try to make this short and simple and hope someone can help me out.I currently am using a T430s which I ordered a Sierra MC7550 (GOBI 4000) mini PCI card for to have internet (4G) on the go via verizon.I followed all instructions and installed the card without any issue. I booted the notebook and notice a little popup in my tool tray that said the hardware was not successfully installed. I then tried using System update to install the driver which seemed to have installed everything successfully. I opened my network connections and still didn't see the new device so I decided to open up device manager and saw that something was wrong. The MC7750 was listed under "Other devices" instead of "Networking" and had the yellow exclamation point next to it.Currently the exact error is as follows:The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)There is no driver selected for the device information set or element. To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.I tried manually downloading/installing the driver from Lenovo's site, using System update, manually pointing to the downloaded driver's path and nothing seems to fix it.I am hoping someone could help me here. I'm not sure if this is Lenovo branded or not however I'm not getting any BIOS errors upon boot. I'm running the latest BIOS and Windows 7 Pro 64bit.There's not much information on this card via the net and I assume this is because of it... Read more

I thought i could just call up verizon with my IEMI number and have it activated... either way I consider this one step closer and it leads me to believe that something is up with the driver download from LENOVO. Also, could I buy a prepaid Verizon sim card and use it in here or? IF this works fully and flawlessy, I hope this helps someone to prevent them from going through what I went through. Hopefully Lenovo updates their drivers.*** I ask that you guys still kindly reply to let me know if I am missing something here. Thanks.

I am using Thinkpad R61 (Type 7755 A61) T7300 @2.00 GHz Ram 1GB.I used to have Windows Vista Home Basic but it was too slow so I decided to switch to XP.But after I reinstall Windows XP I found more problems occur on my laptop. I download all the drivers from Lenovo Website. But then my wireless works for a while, after that it just lost the connection but the light still on. Then all the bottom right panel near the wireless icon freeze. I cannot click anything. I need to restart my Windows again. Then it works and disconnects again. It's been like this everyday, many times aday.  I uninstall IBM ThinkVantage but the problem did not solve. Sometimes when I restarts the wireless internet works but my keyboard or sounds do not work. It's so annoying. If anyone have these problems, please advice me at once. I cannot do my work on this unstable laptop anymore. Thanks alot

Hello, We have an Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (20A7, 20A8) Windows 10 x64 and the computer performance slowed down since we updated the system with Lenovo utility, the most relevant update is BIOS update us 1.31.1.19. The CPU usage increases from 5% to 9x% with no reason and its continiously increasing and decreasing without opened applications, we also installed Intel IO updates. Somebody have the same situation or knows how to fix it? Thanks,Regards

Answer:Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd Gen slow performance after installing Lenovo updates

That is the reason why I always going to see forums of new updates, those updates are like beta, with bugs and other things that cost us to waiste our time fixing it and getting stressed.I got critical update about bios, but as my performance is great I don't updating anything. My answer would be, to backup your bios version, it will get things back to work properly. And for future just don't install anything, after installing it cost problems.Yesterday I wanted to download program, yeah downloaded virus too, rofl, internet is full of virus, so technical supports could make more money ( if you can't fix yourself)

Answer:Problem Installing Windows 7 on Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13 665D817

I've seen this happen occasionally when you install via USB. In my experience, it's when a USB 3.0 or eSATA/USB combo port is present. It doesn't happen if you bootstrap it from an existing Windows, nor does it happen when you install from optical media. There's one trick that involves ImageX that you can use to install Windows, but that gets a bit complicated.

Hi aschulte,

If you have a W541 then you need the driver for the EM7355 card; that's what should be in the system unless the parts list and psref are mistaken.

I have a T440 with Sierra LTE. It works just fine for connecting to mobile networks. But here in New Zealand, one of our providers also provides free wifi hotspots to customers on certain plans. In order to use this though, I have to enter a password that is sent to me by SMS.Is there any way that I can view SMS messages sent to the SIM card that is inside my laptop? At the moment, I have to remove the SIM from my ThinkPad (with all the hassle that involves), stick it into my phone, get the password, then transfer the SIM card back into my ThinkPad (and often as not, there is no power socket nearby, so I can't restart because I had to disable the internal battery when removing/replacing the SIM card). So, if someone can point to a way that I can simply view those SMS messages on my ThinkPad, I will be enernally grateful.

Hello I am trying to reinstall the drivers for a Thinkpad E 335 I have an issue with wireless drivers - more exactly it does not work at all, I have there an exclamation mark and that's it.I was trying also with Lenovo automatic tool to find the right drivers for WIFI but is not working better.Last ressort Driver Booster - free tool but still no lucky.By the way SO - Win 7 Home Premium. It will help me a lot if someone can tell me the succesion of installing drivers and can indicate me which one of them.....

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad E 335 - wireless issue

I was also having trouble with the wireless on a Lenovo product (ThinkPad 11e). Although it may or may not help in your case, you might try just deleting anything that pertains to the wireless drivers in Device Manager and then reboot. After I did that with mine, Windows said it found new hardware and installed the drivers and that fixed the problem. It originally had something to do with a Windows update that got things messed up.

Hi all,

I have an end user with a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 that cannot locate the wireless network we have set up in our office. "No wireless networks were found in range" is the message we get when trying to locate our network using the Wireless Network Connection utility. I checked Device Manager to see if his wireless card (Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG) was disabled or not functioning properly, but it is working fine. All the required drivers are also installed.

The router we use at the office is a Linksys WRT160N V3. Anyone have any ideas how to solve this problem?

-Anton

Answer:Wireless problems with Lenovo Thinkpad T61

First, welcome to TechSpot, good to have you here. I?m somewhat new myself, so I?m still figuring things out. Now, I know this may be elementary for you, but here?s a link to the Windows Vista networking help page: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/88ea056e-664a-4c3d-b977-13f79cb4dedb1033.mspx.

I?m not terribly familiar with the T61 (worked mostly with 43s). Does it have a physical WiFi on/off switch? Sometimes those can be the culprits.

Cheers,

Answer:How do I turn on the wireless on my Lenovo T400 Thinkpad?

Two things to check:
1. There is a small slide switch along one edge of your ThinkPad that turns the wireless (and Bluetooth, etc.) radios on/off. Make sure it's ON. You should see a green indicator.
2. Use the Fn-F5 key combination to bring up a software applet. Verify that "801.11 Wireless radio" is ON.

If that doesn't work then make sure you have the correct device drivers installed for wireless support. Run ThinkVantage System Update to download/install them if necessary.

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/migr-73611
but have had no luck. there are no available wireless connections I can connect to.
I have also tried to use USB wireless adapter TP-LINK TL-WN725N to connect to internet. It is able to find available connections but when it tries to connect it says unable to connect and give options to troubleshoot. Once troubleshoot is complete it says to investigate router or access point issues. I have reset the router many times. Other devices are working fine with the internet just not this laptop.
I am running windows 7 64Bit.
Please help.
Thanks

Can you connect the laptop to the router using a cable at all ?

using just the laptop wireless adapter
unlikely to be this as it is reporting NO networks available - but check anyway please
Check the wireless is switched ON
theres often a physical switch or a combination of the FN and one of the F keys to toggle the wireless on/off
often F2 is used - but note , not always - look for a symbol that looks a little like (( i ))

is the wireless on?

Even if you were using Wi-Fi for the download it's probably just coincidence that something happened to the adapter immediately after the download completed. Do I have that right--that the download did complete?

Since you just downloaded Windows 7--I hope a genuine, not pirated, version--why are you trying to troubleshoot the adapter problem now instead of after a re-install of the OS?

Hi

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T420s 4173-W1J. It is ca. 18 months old.

A few months after buying it, I started to get BSOD in irregular intervals for no apparent reason. Sometimes I have been listening to music (itunes/winamp) when the crash occured.
In August I caught a Malware and had to re-install Windows. I didn't use the pre-installed Windows from the recovery partition, but a legit version I got at university. I downloaded all drivers for my notebook from the lenovo support page and they should be up to date.

I am still experiencing irregular BSOD now. I tried bluescreenview, but I don't really know a lot about computers, so that didn't help.

I still have warranty for this notebook, so it would already help to know if this is a hardware problem, so I can send it in.

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions on how to handle the problem.
Thank you!

I'm looking at ordering a Lenovo T420s soon for myself.  In both the reseller guide and on the Lenovo CTO site I don't see any configurations of the T420s that are offered with the Core i7 processor but without the NVIDIA Optimus graphics.  Is this an available configuration?

If that's what you want, you'd be crazy to buy anything right this second unless you absolutely need a machine right now. The Ivy Bridge machines are going to have Intel HD 4000 GPUs (integrated) but the tests so far say they are really good.  I would not be surprised to see what you want in the T430s, X2 or some other ThinkPad Ultrabook.

Hello, No matter what I do, I  cannot get the wifi to work on my ThinkPad T420s running Windows 10. It has never given me issues until randomly I set my computer down and came back to it to find a red x by the icon on the bottom right. I've already tried the radio switch on the right side, and I've tried fn+f5 to no avail. I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and I've even reinstalled Windows 10. In device manager, the wifi adapter (intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205) shows up just fine, and says "This device is working properly" in properties. Honestly, it seems like it's behaving as if I have turned the radio switch off but that is not the case. Any help would be appreciated. Ben

Hi,
We deployed 10 Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530 (M/N   MP1ZPZA) laptops for a new customer installation.
All systems are running Windows 7 64-bit Professional
The laptops are connected wireless in a Windows Server 2008R2 domain.
We have noticed some slow connectivity issues.
Multiple access points were tested but still had the same issue.
Whenever we ping a workstation the response time is over 800 milliseconds.
I updated the drivers using Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools and I didn?t get any improvement.  Because the wireless adapter is Intel, I installed the latest drivers provided by Intel but the result was the same.
I found that after running Intel WiDi application on any laptop the Ping response time for that workstation will temporarily decrease to less than 5ms (a normal timing range)
A couple of HP laptops were added to the domain for testing but did not experience the same issue with the ping response.
A case was opened with Lenovo technical support (Case#902B6YJ).
After talking with Lorenzo, Ray and Alfonso from Lenovo support the conclusion was that is an engeneering problem  and they suggested us to address the issue to this forum.
Has any else experienced this type of issue?

Hi, I ordered myself a Gigabyte Atheros 5802 Wireless Draft-N network card from OxfordTech, along with a third antenna to install into my Lenovo ThinkPad SL-300 "NS64YMN".. Unfortunately I didn't check whether it would be some issues regarding replacing the wifi card inside ThinkPad SL-300 before I placed my order.. Now I'm sitting here with my new antenna and card, but I don't really understand how to replace the Intel 5100 card? For me it makes no sense whatsoever to not offer a somewhat easy replacement of the wireless card? But for some awkward reason this simple task seems almost impossible on the ThinkPad SL-300? We've got easy access to the WWAN, TurboMemory, it's also a somewhat easy access to the CPU, but no the wireless card nor it's antennas? That's somewhat a huge disappointment for me.. Is there anyway to replace the wireless card without ripping the entire machine into hundred pieces?

Answer:Replacing the wireless network card? (Lenovo ThinkPad SL-300 "NS64YMN")

The HMM for our SL300 is available from Lenovo Support page. I gives you the proper procedure for replacing the wireless card. Unfortunately the link isn't working properly. It states "File not found".

I am trying to restore my ThinkPad to factory default using the recovery CDs.  I boot off of the CDs, go through the steps to reset it to factory default, and it begins the process.  Nothing happens.  No progress whatsoever.  It says "preparing hard disk...", but the HDD indicator isn't even on.  I let it run for about 7 hours before stopping it.  Is there some BIOS setting I need to change?

Answer:ThinkPad T420s Product Recovery stuck

Any chance there's a pop-up window waiting for user input hidden behind the "preparing..." window?

I've seen that with Win 7 factory media, but at a somewhat different place in the process.

I bought a Lenovo WWAN card - Ericsson F5521gw (0A36186); when I installed the card I have found that instead of two WWAN antenna wires (orange and blue) there is only one WWAN antenna wire (the orange one). I have connected it to the MAIN connector (orange triangle) on the WWAN card - and it seems that it works fine (it connects at 21Mb/HSPA+ - though I have not passed yet over 7Mbps download). As you can see in the attached picture, there are four wires underneath of the laptop: grey, white, black (these three wires are for the WLAN card, the white one being unused because of my 2x2 Intel 6205 WLAN card) and orange (the one I connected to the WWAN card).

I have looked under keyboard too but there is no blue wire.

I'm quoting here the T420s Hardware Maintenance Manual - 1060 PCI Express Mini Card for wireless WAN:
"When installing:
Plug the orange cable into the jack labeled
MAIN, and the blue cable into the jack labeled AUX on the card."
So, should I worry for the missing blue wire? Could someone else confirm that there is no blue wire in other T420s laptop or it's just mine? Thanks!

Answer:ThinkPad T420s WWAN antenna wires

I have completely removed the keyboard and I found the blue wire! It comes from the right side of screen and goes underneath of the laptop but being too short and having its end covered with some black material it wasn't obvious that it is there. If you look carefully at the picture you can even see a shade of blue - that is the blue wire. So, I have the blue wire but I can't use it, it's ~2 inches shorter. This is really poor craftsmanship. Now I'm thinking what to do: search for a pigtail (u.fl female to u.fl male - looks like the connector is u.fl, hope I'm not wrong) to prolong the wire to the WWAN card or send the laptop to the service shop (hope Lenovo will fix this). What's your advise?

Recently the Monitor on my T420S failed.  Following online message boards, I hooked up the computer to an external monitor and verified that the graphics card was ok as I was able to see the screen, but when attempting to type, I recognized that the keyboard was no longer functioning.  Thinking that it was still related to the monitor, I purchased a replacement... but to my suprise, both the keyboard and monitor are still not functioning.  With the new monitor I could see the startup screen with a light placed on the screen, but the keyboard shows no response at all.   Good news is that I am able to remote into the machine so all the data can be transferred, but I would hate to lose such a great laptop that has been so good to me over the years. Any thoughts on what the issue might be?  Has the motherboard possibly failed?  Open to any and all suggestions.

Hi TFerrante,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I am not sure about the system board, before confirming on that can you just try with reseating the both LCD cable and Keyboard cable.

I am little bit confused about the statement given (With the new monitor I could see the startup screen with a light placed on the screen), can you elaborate this or else provide the snapshot, so that we can verify the issue.

im going on a long international flight and was wondering if there is a slice battery option for the t420s? i cant seem to find any listings on it here on lenovo yet other places like ebay and google show its available. why is that? i suppose my choices are only to get another 6 cell or an ultrabay 3 cell? that be nice if i can have all 3! it be nice if i can have at least 10hrs of batt life under heavy load. (by the way is the t430s slice capable too? doesnt look like lenovo is advertising that 30hr battery life anymore like they did for the previous gen)

Solved. I use 'wired' to access a secure intranet, and 'wireless' for general internet use in the office and elsewhere. The wireless connection kept disappearing after I had used the wired connection. Here's a typical scenario: * Boot up with wireless only - no problem.* Plug in wired network cable - it takes over and wireless is turned off, at a deep level.* Unplug wired network cable - no connections! The wireless network does not resume.* Run the Windows network trouibleshooter to discover "wireless capability is turned off".* Pressing Function F9 and clicking the Master and Individual on-off buttons does not help.* Windows network trouibleshooter offers to fix it: accept the offer, and it works again. There has been a lot of discussion about wireless connections on various models of ThinkPad and numerous solutions offered and I've tried most of them. Finally I got to uninstall ThinkVantage Access Connections and now everything works as expected. In fact it is possible to have both networks active at the same time (for example in different browsers). Conclusion: Wired and wireless don't mix well in ThinkVantage Access Connections, so just uninstall it.

Centrino 6205 Advanced N Wireless NIC appears to be contributing to the Wireless on this Lenovo Thinkpad T530.  The user states system drops wireless as often as every 4-5 minutes, sometimes it makes it as long as 30 minutes.  This occurs connected to two different Wireless Connections (one via a TimeWarner Wireless access point, the other via a Verizon MiFI)... it also happens at his 2nd home.  So, everything points to the Laptop as the issue, be it the Wireless NIC itself or the driver.

I've updated drivers from Lenovo's site.  I've checked transmit power at Maximum, I've unchecked the box that allows Windows to power down the NIC to save power.

This user says he's having the same issue: http://communities.intel.com/thread/31366

This Lenovo X201 Tablet user is experiencing a very similar issue:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Tablet-ThinkPad-Laptops/Persistent-WIFI-problem-wity-my-X201-ta...

Thanks,
Stephen

WARNING!!! The instructions in this post are applicable only to EM7345 installed in Lenovo laptops!! For example, models T440, X240, X1 Carbon 2nd and 3rd gen, X250. For tablets or other devices don?t use the firmware given in this post, you can brick your EM7345! Unfortunately, the default factory EM7345 firmware version  (1.1) has some bugs. For example, after connecting to a LTE network and then disconnecting manually, the network status of the connection was changing for me to ?No service? until device restart. Also, the device often disappears from Device Manager and reappears there with the name ?1 CDC? and does not work until you disable and then enable it again in Device Manager. All those issues are caused by some bugs in EM7345 firmware. But there is a newer version of firmware, namely 1.2, where the above bugs are fixed. But by default, you cannot flash it, because firmware updating is supposed to work unattended. And this is not nice of Intel and Lenovo. The users must be able to do firmware updating when they need or want it! Bad, bad Lenovo, very bad! Here?s the instructions of how to flash your EM7345 to the latest version:Make sure you?re using Windows 8 or 8.1Go to the control panel and uninstall Sierra Wireless EM734x 4G LTE Software from Program and Features.Reboot your laptop.Download and install the latest EM7345 driver package from the Lenovo website. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-l... I have this rather irritating problem in that whenever I install the drivers/software for my sierra airport 595u card, it kills the usb host controllers. By kill, I mean I get "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39) errors. This is on both my laptop and desktop I've tried this on. I don't even have the device plugged in when installing, but when I reboot this happens. Uninstalling the software doesn't work, only system restore before the install or format and re-install. I tried comparability mode for vista, no go.

Answer:Incompatability with Sierra Wireless?

Quick update. Apparently the drivers can be loaded if you do it manually. The device won't actually connect without the sprint pcs connection manager's services running. As near as I can tell, running them causes the computer to be unable to re-start any usb style devices. Any ideas?

Hi,

This ThinkPad T420s was purchased last year and no one has been using it since it gets BSOD randomly.

Now I've decided to try to find the cause of the BSOD so I can contact the repair centers.

The BSOD occurs quite randomly. Sometimes I could trigger a BSOD by stressing the mSATA SSD but sometimes I couldn't.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello there!

Something is seriously wrong since the drivers seems to be duplicated. Multiple ones. First let's rule of hardware related issues.

Run Hardware Diagnostic (RAM and hard Drive) Hardware Diagnostic | Captain Debugger

Run SFC Scan SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hi guys, I have been playing around with Power manager system settings and observed following core frequency behaviour: Maximum Turbo - clocks all cores close to their Turbo Frequency (3.2GHz on mine) and they stay there, regardless if                              under load or notTurbo - frequency jumps between 2.4GHz and 3.2GHz           - under load jumps to 3.2GHz and stays there (while under load) Balanced - frequency jumps between 2.2GHz and 2.7Ghz                 - under load jumps to 2.7GHz and stays there (while under load) Low - frequency locked to 800Mhz, regardless if under load or not First, I would like to ask for confirmation if this is really how it should work, and/or if someone is able to observe different behaviour.Secondly, there is virtually NOTHING in the PM documentation that describes these parameters and what they do! My main question: How safe is it to use the Maximum Turbo mode 24/7?I can imagine that this CPU was not designed to run on 3.2GHz 24/7 and that the Turbo Boost is expected to occur only ocassionally.Even if I choose to ignore the heat factor, would this mean increased wear on CPU? Could the 'Turbo' mode be regarded as safe? After some... Read more

Answer:Thinkpad T420s - is it safe to run the CPU on PM 'Maximum Turbo' mode 24/7?

I have the T420s with the Core i5 processor. My observations are similar to yours, except when I'm on the Balanced and Turbo settings, the frequency drops to 800mhz when the CPU is not under load. There is one option you forgot to describe: the "Lenovo Turbo Boost+" option in the power manager. This option appears to lock the fan at a high RPM to cool the CPU more quickly. This would reduce any thermal throttling when running at high clock speeds for a long period of time. Regarding why "Turbo seems to be jumping to Turbo Frequency when the CPU is idle", please note that your CPU is never completely idle. WIndows and its applications run many processes and tasks in the background, and it is normal to see a burst of CPU activity every couple of seconds. To observe this, download the "Sysinternals process monitor" utility and watch all of the background activity that occurs. Regarding the increased wear on CPU, running at high temperatures reduces the lifetime of electronic components. There are no problems other than the "heat factor", but excessive heat can be a significant problem.

I bought two brand new X270's WWAN upgradable and bought EM7455 cards separately. I installed the cards as directed. When I booted the laptop the first time after installation, a warning message saying something to the effect of "unknown network hardware EM7455." Windows didn't detect the newly installed card. So I did a CMOS reset (removed the extra battery, disabled the built-in battery on the BIOS and pressed the CMOS reset button to the left of the battery bay). After the CMOS reset, Windows recoginized a new hardware by the name of "Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm" but couldn't install the driver (see the attached screenshot). I did install Lenovo's EM7455 driver (total file size 191MB) and didn't work. I turned to Sierra and found a generic USB Build 4581 driver and it didn't work. When I restarted Windows, the newly found hardware was gone. I did a CMOS reset again and it came back up on the device manager list.  So I turned to Windows update. It found a driver update by the name of Sierra Incorporated - Ports dated 10/20/2016. It tried to install it but it failed. However, the device's name was changed to Qualcomm COM Port (3) and it was still not installed properly. I went to the device's properties and changed the port to 8. It recognized the full name of the card but GPRS connecitons on Windows didn't show up. I restarted Windows, and the device was gone again! I checked the BIOS permissions and I tried different scenarios (disabled WWAN, e... Read more

Answer:Problem installing Sierra EM7455 WWAN card on X270

Hello and welcomeCould you provide the wwan card service p/n (FRU)? It's printed on the modem's labelCompatible wwan card (em7455) doesn't need manufacturer's (Sierra's) drivers as win8.1/10 has native drivers for MBIM network mode. Modem in the default configuration supports that mode. Also, to make sure for current wwan modem state, provide its IDs, please:- Device Manager, right click on the modem entry, Details tab, Option list, pull it down, Hardware ID (the 3rd item from the top);- copy and past here the values from the field below

I have a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad Edge e545 with download speeds in the 0.15 mbs range. Ethernet gives it about 30 mbps. No, it is not my router--other lenovo laptop wifi connections are perfectly normal for my broadband at 25 mbps. It is windows 8.1 fully updated. I tried to find drivers and downloaded the supposedly correct wireless LAN driver, but no success. Sometimes when started plugged in to battery power or just after being plugged in to ethernet it has high wifi download speed. Also the webcam is not showing picture, which driver should I download? And I am getting an audio driver fail notice. This is a brand new laptop, and Lenovo is quickly losing a loyalty. The only way they would help me on their renowned customer service site is if I paid $99.99. Any info is appreciated.

I am having the exact same problem with the wireless internet. A system reboot seems to fix the problem temporarily, but over time the performance degrades. I am using a 64-bit Windows 7 OS. Let me know if you find anything out!

My lenovo came with Sierra Wireless MC5725 for use with Verizon's EVDO network. VZAccess manager (Verizons POS software) told me today that there was a firmware update for my Sierra Wireless device. This update failed, and now my device won't work.  I basically can't enable the device.  It doen't show up in my network list, and I can't turn it on using the fn+F5 screen. Where can I get the firmware for this thing?  Sierra Wireless says they don't support these OEM devices, and Lenovo has nothing regarding firmware on their site, only drivers. I hate Verizon.

I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my T60. I have downloaded and installed every recommended driver, for Windows and Thinkpad, and I continue to get a "found nerw hardware" warning. I can not get any driver to work, and uninstalling the device didn't work...it just keeps coming back. What can I do to get this problem to go away? Thank you John
