Brand New T430s: A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

Question: Brand New T430s: A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

Product informationLess than week old Lenovo T430S6cell LI Battery T81+Microsoft Windows 8 64bit Issue After working for multiple days, the battery decided to stop charging yesterday. Upon loading the desktop, I get this error message. I Googled this issue and found that other people have had similar problems. Some of the solutions I tried (and did not work) are: Reinstalling Lenovo Power ManagerUninstalling Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method BatteryRemoving the battery and putting it back in As it stands, the battery menu says "Plugged in, not charging" and is stuck at 84%. If anyone could give me other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. I am assuming it's not a hardware issue as the battery is brand new and was working just fine a few days ago.

Preferred Solution: Brand New T430s: A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Brand New T430s: A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

Not sure if there's any known quirks with that combination of hardware and software, but it sounds to me like the battery had a spontaneous failure, in which case you should just get it replaced under warranty.

My battery (FRU: 42t4957) is stuck at 2% and refuses to charge:I kept it at 40-50% most of the time by changing battery threshold. Total cycle count was about 80 (84 now) first use date 2013-03.On Saturday I tried to run a "discharge-charge-discharge-charge" cycle (by watching some movies) to reset the gauge of my battery. During 2nd discharge my laptop hibernated due to low charge much earlier than expected, when I turned it on it showed that the max capacity is 28 Wh and the battery is in the "poor" condition.I tried to perform automatic gauge reset but didn't get much (29 Wh). I updated power manager and performed another automatic reset which failed too.So I tried to make a manual reset and left my laptop paying a movie for a night. On Monday I plugged my AC adapter in but found out that the battery won't charge: "a battery error has occurred the battery cannot be charged".I cleared residual capacitance by pushing the power button several times and reset the BIOS to defaults but got nothing. If this problem can't be sold I would like to know the reason of it to avoid such things in the future. While googling this forum I met contradictory opinions on battery reset: ones say that it's extremely harmful because battery "doesn't like" to be discharged to 0%, others say its harmless.

I have a T61, bought 10/07.  I got this message out of the blue after i unplugged my laptop and it shut itself off.  Only turns back on when plugged in.  The orange battery light is flashing despite it saying the battery is fully charged, i called lenovo and they said i need to purchace a new battery, since the 1 year warranty exprired just over one month ago (convenient for them).  I have searched and found that this is not a new problem with lenovo and that 2 sets of recalls on the t60 battery occured recently, but mine apparently does not quailfy for recall (already checked).   The battery info says its a sanyo battery with poor quality, 44 cycles, first used 10/07.I'm kind of peeved that i'm being told i need to buy a $115 battery just over a year after getting this computer, and believe lenovo should step up for clearly something being wrong with their system as i'm in good company of others with this problem. anyone have any ideas?  do i really need to purchase a new battery??thanks for any help

We are having issues with the batteries of Lenovo TP T61, T400. , we have replaced around 4 laptop batteries now. Is there any announcement  regarding this from Lenovo? Below is a recent message from one of a TP 61.   Power Manager error:A battery error has occured. The battery cannot be charged. Are you using genuine Lenovo brand?  Is the power manager telling you when the manufacture date and cycle count are?  Try downloading the newest power manager from the website.

I have some T60 battery's here that cannot be charged. At the moment i have 5. One of those has just a cycle count of 51. The others have a cycle count of 113, 346, 481 and the last one sais "No battery installed". All those are between one and two years old. Is this normal for the T60 series that the battary dies that quick?  I've allready looked for the replacement program, but none of those battery's is in that range for replacement. I think the problem is that the laptop's where on stock for a month or 2 and they didn't removed the battery before placing it in stock. What can i do?

Answer:T60 - A battery error has occured. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

Hi Roman78, Wlcome to the forum! If the batteries do not fall under the recall you will have to buy some new ones. Most T60 batteries last a long time but some do die early. It happened to me too.Make sure from now on that the batteries are removed before going into storage. Running batteries completely dead is hard on them and there is always a little draw when they are connected.

I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X220. However, after only 1 week use, i receive the error "The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery." In particular the battery meter indicates 48%, however when I remove the a/c the laptop immediately shut downs. The problem occured after only 3 charging cycles, when i upgraded the firmware to the 1.19 version and installed the lenovo's power management software. However, i cannot correlate the 2 events for sure. I tried to get back to a previous version, re-install (or remove) the power management software, however the problem persists. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Answer:X220 battery problem: "The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery".

Hi, I already had this problem on my X300, and the battery was basically dead. You need to replace it. Probably yours was defective. In my X300 it had append after 9 months only.

Installed a new Lenova battery in July 2008.  Today  a message "battery error has occured - battery cannot be charged".   the Power Manager said the battery was in good condition.  Is this an error on the part of the computer or is there another recall on the batteries?  Should definitely last longer than this.  Thanks for your help.

Hello,As the title says I have a strange problem ? I get error 0190 (Critical low-battery error) where at the same time my battery is full on my brand new ThinkPad Edge E531. Of course I already searched for threads with similar issue and I found this one: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X1-0190-critical-low-battery-error-but-battery... . It appears that my case is quite identical with the one of user ?gilsont?. I have noticed that whenever I leave my laptop shut down for a longer period of time with almost full battery, it displays error 0190 on next start up followed by a beep sound and shut down. You may ask ?Why are you asking us? You already have the problem ? the battery?. Well the problem is not that simple. I already returned the laptop (on 3rd day after I got it) to the store where I bought it and respectively they sent it to their tech service. After few days I was informed that they couldn?t find anything wrong with it or its battery. I instructed them how they may reproduce the error but again without any result ? still nothing. Now I am in a bit confusing situation, I can?t prove that there is something faulty with this machine. I am not aware of the circumstances needed to trigger this error. My question is ? could it be a single case, maybe the battery wasn?t fully activated at that time or something like dirt on the battery connector interfered? I really don?t know what to do.Note: I encountered the problem 2 times... Read more

My battery is not part of the recall (42T5209) however it has all the symptoms of the recalled batteries. I was on battery with ~78% battery life left. I shut down the computer and turned it back on several hours later, or at least I tried to. No go!! Plugged the laptop in and got a flashing battery error. Battery is showing 78% charge left, displays the battery voltage however AMPERAGE IS AT 0.00%. Called IBM/Lenovo and opened up a case, however all they can do it 15% off the cost of the battery.I am past the 1 year warranty on the battery. What I do not understand it why they are covering certain batteries and not ALL batteries that have the issue... Update: Well the battery IS PART OF THE RECALL, however I am past the "6 month" extended warranty coverage.Edit2: Battery only has 98 cycles... Message Edited by draco2527 on 04-14-2009 06:33 PMMessage Edited by draco2527 on 04-16-2009 01:04 PM

I just bought an Inspiron 15 i5558 Signature Edition two days ago, and it won't run if I unplug the AC adapter. It's acknowledging that there is a batter, and it says it's at 100% (but when I hover over it, it says not charging). It recognizes when I take the battery out, so I know the computer can recognize the battery, but whenever I unplug the charger from the computer, it immediately shuts off! The light at the front of my computer (which has a battery symbol next to it) is constantly flashing orange.

I'm incredibly fed up and am about to return this laptop if there isn't a solution.

Answer:HELP!! Brand new computer won't run on a fully charged battery!

Look's like the battery is NOT fully charged, but totally flat. Download BattStat and see what it says about the battery and charging. Most likely you should contact Dell about warranty service.

They will not work. T430s batteries have a additional circuitry. The same applied to T430, T530, w530. Batteries from T410, T420, T510, etc. will not work

I own a T61 7658 I bough on 2008, it worked great with the default power settings until October 22nd I decided to change my power profile to MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.  Next day I received on Message Center... 10/23/2010 - Battery health is critical. With the current system settings and a full charge, your battery can provide approximately 3.0 hours of use. A new battery could provide up to an estimated 5.5 hours.I kept using the Laptop with the Max performance until...11/12/2010 - Battery error is detected. Irreparable damage to the battery has been detected. Replace the battery with a new one. I have used IBM/Lenovo  for years and even had used batteries for 5 years without a single issue.I have read many posts of people having the same problem not only with T61s, but many other Lenovo models, and also read posts of Lenovo's administrators suggesting this is normal and justifying that batteries should be good for at least 12 months and after that we are on own, basically meaning we should be thankful in name of our own safety that we had that battery protection and we must replace it at our own cost and forget about it.  That is a very easy way out, isn?t it.But certainly, not only batteries with more than 12 months are failing, even new batteries are and have been replaced with multiple exchange programs posted by Lenovo in their website just as in http://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/batt/082009/LandingPage.html. and also... I just received a lenovo y550 in the mail (11/30/2009) not too long ago, and the first thing that I noticed is that the laptop won't stay on without the ac adaptor plugged in. Right when the power jack is removed from the computer, the CPU completely shuts down and stays dead.  I also noticed that the power indicator on the lower right is stuck at 84% available (plugged in, not charging). I charged the computer for over 10 hours, and the number is still the same. All in all, I'm pretty sure that the battery is the problem here. I looked all over Lenovo's page for a customer support number but I couldn't find it. ADMIN, if you're reading this, I would like to have a Lenovo Y550 battery replacement sent to me. I have the invoice #, payment/order history, etcetera for my order. Please let me know. Thanks

Answer:Lenovo Y550- Brand new, Battery doesn't charge (stuck at 84%). Need new battery.

Hi, I got a new 9-cell x200 battery from lenovo literally a few hours ago, and upon plugging it in Power Manager gives me the dang "Genuine Lenovo Battery Not Attached" message... despite the battery being ordered directly from Lenovo! I've noticed that the cells in this battery are Panasonics instead of the Sanyos I got in my 6-cell included with my x200. Why is it giving me this message, and how do I disable it (without getting rid of Power Manager)? (To be honest, I'm more interested in the first question )Message Edited by alacarte on 02-23-2009 05:10 PM

Seems like internal battery memory was corrupted due to flashing interruption.
I assumed the root cause is internal software error.

I've tried the same on Windows 7/8/XP with all LnvBFU revisions (from v1.2 till v1.15) without any success.

But LnvBFU.exe still recognizes the battery, it still able to start flashing.
And I still have hope to install battery software correctly.

Dear Lenovo experts:
1. Please provide steps to correct this error.
2. Please advise how can I get logs of LnvBFU to figure out what's wrong.
3. Please fix this issue in the next LnvBFU revision.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Battery Firmware Update has killed Brand New E420 battery

Hi, I have a comparable problem over here. Got a brand new Lenovo Yoga 260 three weeks ago, worked completely fine until last wednesday. Processed some lenovo updates including Lenovo Solution Centre and Power Management and now my battery is dead. Everytime i turn on my Yoga 260 i get a battery error message after a few minutes that says the battery is not charging and it should be replaced due to a bad condition. When i open up Lenovo Settings and search for energymanagement it displays the same message telling me the battery is defect due to normal wear and it should be replaced. My problem is that the battery worked completely fine until the moment i installed some Lenovo software updates. I hope lenovo support can provide steps to correct this error instead of forcing me to return it and wait 2 -3 weeks. Thanks in advance.

Hi i have upgraded my laptop to 190mb ram,and latest bios, installed a 20gb disk and am now running windows xp.
Since putting xp on i lost the battery monitor utility.
I mostly use the laptop from the mains supply.
Now it wont run on the battery at all, i get about 40 seconds then windows shuts down.
I have measured 12volts directly from the battery and tested a small buzzer from it.
Anyone got any ideas.Has the battery developed this memory thing where it requires a full discharge?
or
would it be the power utility on the laptop causing the problem ?

Answer:4030cdt - battery charged but won't run on battery

Hi

How old is your battery?
Usually every notebook died after about 500 charge procedures.
On my old notebook the battery has died after 2 years. At the end the battery works only 1 min.
In my opinion you should check if the battery is ok or has a malfunction

So, opening up my laptop today seems to show that the battery is dead. It 'cannot be charged' and needs replaced. After a search of google, it seems this isn't an entirely new phenomenon and that there is free replacements available should this error occur. You have to use the Diagnostic tool to do so, so I downloaded that. The diagnostic tool won't work though, I've set Mozilla as my default browser (as Internet Explorer doesn't work) but whenever I try to use the diagnostic tool I get an error saying '1.7 - Could not connect to server. Check internet connection'. The internet connection is fine, is there any other way of using the tool? A direct link or whatever, or any way of showing lenovo the issue i.e print screen as whenever I hover over the power management bit the error is clearly shown. Any help would be appreciated, so I don't have to fork out Ģ50+ on another battery which I should (I think) be entitled to for free. First post too, so appologies if I completely shamed the house rules with any of that. EDIT: Here's the URL of the lenovo page where I found out about the error + diagnostic tool:http://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/batt/082009/LandingPage.html Also, is there a lenovo support online chat function rather than a phone number as I have completely lost my voice.

Answer:R61i Battery Cannot Charge - Replace Battery. Diagnostic tool won't connect to server, help?

can you get safe mode working with network function? Maybe you could try the software in there.

hi, I have a problem with windows battery meter, my laptop is a Samsung AtivBook 9 Plus. the design battery capacity is 55kmwh, but its holding 82kmwh as full charge...
if I'm at 100%, the laptop will die at 35%, but still will run for a full 7 hour, and each % is very slow to change., making me think its a windows problem offsetting the battery. I have "calibrate" it with the usual charge/discharge method and no luck, I've even take off the battery for a few minutes.
so, I want to know if its really a faulty battery(it was ok a few days ago) or a windows problem, I have tons of stuff so I don't want to format my pc. give me some idea, can I delete battery parameters reset it? Can I make windows forget the actual full charge capacity of the battery to start with a "fresh" values?

Hi,
I am writing this as I have hopelessly tried all methods found online without success.
I have an XPS 15 bought in France. I move to Singapore and my original DELL AC adapter was spoiled. So I went to the nearest store and bought a third party adapter. Everything works out fine for a while... Now, my laptop won't charge anymore (stuck at 90%).
My laptop only turn on if it is plugged under ac adapter. When I unplug the ac adapter, my laptop turn off.
When I turn on my laptop it says "this battery charging is temporarily disabled, press F2 for entering BIOS Menu". In BIOS, under battery health it is said "this battery is temporarily disabled, please turn off the computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature" I have this problem systematically, my laptop is not heated.
I even bring it to a repair shop here in Singapore; but they do not even have the parts to test.
Please help.
I am willing to buy a new battery or new adapter, but I am not even sure if that's the problem.

Thank you

I have a X60 initially bought in 2007 for business but was never used much. We started using it regularly in March of this year and all of sudden couple of hours back, laptop automatically shut down. It wont restart until power was plugged in and on being plugged in the battery light was flashing.Reading on Lenovo website, I soon figured out this is the famous battery error; but running their automated program does not show my battery as one of teh affected parts! Checking battery stats, the battery charge cycle is only 61!! I called Lenovo support and they claim that since the battery warranty was expired in 03/08, there is nothing much they can do but to direct me to buy a new one.A battery with only 61charges and exhibiting all the same symptoms as bad batteries - is a bad battery and should be replaced. Even my FRU # 93P5030 is right next to replacement FRU # 93P5029. I don't want to spend money on buying a replacement battery especially because I know they gave a bad battery to start with. Any suggestions, how I should deal with lenovo? Thanks!

Hello, first all the facts: Model: Pavilion TS 11Year bought: 2013product Number: E2V68EA#ABDBattery test result: primary battery failed - replace (42)Error code: 0GF2MR - 6MW8H9 - XD7WXF - C0A503 The problem: I have noticed the very first time the battery did not fully charge up to 100% app. 1 1/2 years ago. Then it always stayed at about 75%. I made several battery tests, yet everything seemed to be fine. Two days ago, I noticed the battery was down to 7% - not charging even though it should be. I run some battery tests again and the error stated above suddenly came up. The HP battery test via the support center sated everything was okay, yet as I googled the primary battery failed message, I kind of got alarmed.  There is no warranty left and the touchscreen had to be disabled a couple of months ago, because it was not working properly as well. I hope for advises - does it actually make sense to try to repair it? Can this problem be repaired - as far as I understand, the primary battery means changing the removable battery won't help at all? Best wishes,Kristina

I am running an HP Pavilion dv7 3165dx notebook with Windows 10 Professional. I purchased an extended life battery earlier this week and installed it 11/10/16. At first it charged to 26% and stopped, then only to 4% and now it doesn't even recognize the battery and upon running the UEFI program both with the new battery as well as the old, original, battery I seem to come up with the same results, a Failure ID of 9UTQ58-51T89V-XD0021-C09T03. At least the battery light blinks with the old battery but the light stays on for about 3 seconds and goes out upon plugging in the charger with the new battery. Any ideas what I can do to cure this annoying issue?

Is it a genuine HP battery or a "compatible" battery? I think the battery you bought may be bad so your recourse lies with the vendor of the battery.

Answer:Please replace the battery with the correct lenovo battery

You do not specify if the new battery is an original Lenovo battery or not. If it is, you should return it to the place you bought it for a replacement. It would be better if you would bring the laptop with you, to check the new battery. If on the other hand, you bought a non-Lenovo battery, advertised as "compatible", then you should return the battery for a refund and buy either an original or a battery from a provider which can guarantee full compatibility. All this of course assuming that your laptop is perfectly ok and that it is not causing the problem itself.

I use the Dell Inspiron 15r 3537 model laptop and i want to replace the battery. It cuurently works with a 4 Cell battery but I want to replace it with a 6 cell  battery. Is it possible to do so ?

Answer:Can i replace a 4cell battery with 6 cell battery?

It looks like it is possible - however, realize that the 6-cell battery is larger than the 4-cell and will not fit entirely inside the system  -it will extend beyond the rear of the system (along with adding weight, of course).

Good evening,
I've googled extensively trying to find an answer but with no luck. I have an ASUS N61JQ and this is the second OEM battery I buy for it. I'm tired of buying battery packs for it and was thinking about replacing the battery with an external LiPo or 18650 pack that would plug at the same port the battery plugs. I'm just afraid the laptop won't accept it as input or, even worse, tries to charge the battery when it's plugged in. I really only want the battery just for those cases I move the laptop around so I won't have to shut it down. Can you give me some advice on it? I really wanted to be able to build an external battery pack that would be plugged in when the laptop was pluged to the charger without any problems and that would work as an external battery if I unplugged it. The external battery would be charged with a LiPo charger, not with the laptop's internal charger.
Thanks,
Alex

Hi all! As written in the topic I have a huge problem with the run-on-battery-management of my X301-System + Windows 7 SP1. I replaced the optical drive with a secondary battery (ultrabay). Both batteries were identified by the system and charged to 100%.But when I run the system on battery, the system only uses the second battery. So if it runs down, the system turns into suspend/hibernate mode even if the primary battery is charged to 100%.Why doesn't the system switch automatically to the primary battery, when the second one is empty? As long as the second battery is down, the system also won't start/resume from the suspend/hibernate mode. Does anyone know this problem? Is there a known solution for that problem? Thanks a lot for your help. Greets from Germany enweh

Hi. I am looking for some help as my Thinkpad is out of warranty and I have been unable to charge my battery today. Power Manager says an error occurred and the battery cannot be charged and must be replaced. The battery LED on the PC is flashing orange repeatedly. I am unsure as to wat has changed. I just had used my PC yesterday on battery and I remember just plugging it in and then I came to it today after not touching it since yesterday and it is like this. The only thing that happened two days ago is that I had left it in a car where it was hot all day (live in Western NY, so it wasnt 100 degree hot but like the hot that comes from a car baking in the sun all afternoon). I didn't attempt to charge the battery right away, either. I am really unsure as to what is going on. Is there some tests I could run to find more info like an error number or something? I would appreciate any assistance. Thank you Jake

Answer:T61: A battery error occurred and now I cannot charge

> Power Manager says an error occurred and the battery cannot be charged and must be replaced. Alas, your battery is toast. Time to buy a new one. If your system is out of warranty then the battery must be at least a year old. While ThinkPad batteries should last longer, perhaps three years, heat is their enemy. It's possible that leaving the system in your car during a hot spell is what did your battery in.

It goes away after I hit ok and the battery appears to still be functioning but the error is super annoying.  Hi friends, I've had my W500 for 13 months and today the battery suddenly gave out, with the error message "A battery error has occurred.  Battery cannot be charged.  Replace the battery."  At the time it failed the battery wasn't even being charged; the laptop had been plugged in for several hours. Conveniently, the Lenovo warranty only covered the batter for 1 year, which I'm about 2 weeks over, but the failure seems a little suspect.  I only occasionally use the computer on battery and it hadn't shown any signs of weakness before it completely failed. FRU is 42T4619.  I know that they had a similar issue with batteries on t60/61s that lenovo ended up replacing batteries out of warranty for, but this FRU wasn't mentioned under any of them.  Experiences?  Suggestions?

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

I've set the Battery 1 (Main battery) thresholds to 45%~90%, which works very well. Below 45%, start charging, battery level to 90%, stop charging. But I also set the Battery 2 (Keyboard battery) thresholds,(50%~95%) it doesn't work. It will always start charging when battery level below 96% and stop at full. The thresholds is not working. My Helix is running Windows 8.1 with all the newest drivers and necessory software supplied by Lenovo. And after installed the Settings Dependency Package and Power Management Driver, I installed the previous version of Power Manager 6.64.2 in order to set the thresholds. SO, HOW TO SOLVE THE THRESHOLDS-NOT-WORKING ON BATTREY 2?

Hi guys. I have a T470 and after the latest Windows update I encountered a battery naming issue. Before the update batteries had proper order and were named accordingly: battery 1, battery 2, no surprises here. But after the update I noticed the order has changed to battery 0, battery 1 (attached pic below) Yeah yeah, I understand arrays start at zero but what is that? I was just wondering is it just me or you guys have the same situation going on with your batteries? Is there a way to change the order back to "normal"? .

originally your system had the 3 cell battery installed. If you feel you could use a little extra stamina you could opt for the 6 cell battery. As an added extra, there is also a 3 cell battery you could use in place of the optical drive.

Any idea why this has happened and what should i do?

What would be the price of new battery in USD?

Answer:Problem with Satellite A300 battery - battery icon shows error

Guest what: it?s the first time that I?m reading about such issue...
Of course I read many messages abut battery issues but I have never ever seen an error notification by battery icon.

You could try to recalibrate the battery.
Discharge the battery completely. Then recharge it to 100%. Repeat this twice!
Then check how the notebook works.

But you should know that sooner or later your battery would die and you would need to replace the battery.
You can get a 6 cell PA3534U-1BAS/BRS battery for about 70-90 Euros?

After a round of Windows updates, I went to turn on my laptop and recieved the "Primary internal battery (601)" error.  After this screen, however, Windows would not load.  I have tried taking the battery out and 'draining the charge',  and starting up the computer plugged directly to AC with no battery.  Windows still does not load.  The start-up test in the diagnostics menu said the battery needed calibration, however when I go to run the battery test, it gets to "waiting for battery to charge" and exits out of the test without giving me any results at all.  Currently when turning on the computer I no longer get the "primary internal battery" error, it just goes directly to a black screen with blinking cursor.  Any help is appreciated, I'm completely at a loss here!

hi, I'm exactly similar problem.  it is really annoying. I have sent it to service centre once, they simply don't know and just reset the unit by pressing small hole at the tablet, the they do full recharge.  some how it works. later, at the same day occurred again and I tried replicate same process but no luck. then I follow instruction from one of the suggestion in this forum, it solved. it was 2-3 mth ago. now, after I upgrade to windows 8.1, the problem came back. all of this problem created from lenovo power management software together with their metro apps which setting what power management should do. the real culprits when you have setup some setting, then you undock or dock the tablet.. so I believe the software got confuse between the current setting with two unit (keyboard and tablet) especially if you ever play around with setting to extend the battery life which the power management will allow the battery to be charged not more than 50%. what the bad idea ... may not so bad but bad execution... we dont want this stupid geniuses ... we just want our unit working as when we purchase it. your latest driver is suck... big time... u should fire your engineer. .. pay 2k but got monkey ....

I stored my Thinkpad X300 for two weeks and the batteries fullly discharged. Now, when I plug it in, the charge light comes on for about a minute and then turns off again for five minutes. If I press the power button, I see a "critical battery error" from the bios. Both batteries are installed and both are genuine Lenovo, recently replaced and in good condition. I am in Chile, where the power is 220 vold, 50 cycle, which hasn't been a problem in the past or for my other laptops. Ten minutes before this happened, it was working well.

Hi, my original Lenovo, Japan cell, 9-cell battery shows these data in linux upower utility:- 86% of designed capacity- 63% chargedIt was holding my computer 2-3 hours normally. Computer is bazar refurbished, probably new piece, never used, stored in a warehouse in a big company. Now X200 battery led started to blink orange, and batterry gives no power, voltage measured 0.02V. I tried also charging via X200 dock only, nothing happens. So I suspect this is internal battery electronics causing this. I have three 65W chargers, 2 docks. I found a video of some guy overriding internal electronics by short voltage pulse to the output terminal, but I don't want to dissasemble the battery. Questions:1. How can a utility in linux tell charge data, when battery is measured ~0V? Is there any background communication and data is taken from some system bus?2. Is there any power cycle limiting, how to get these data?3. Battery showed good health periodically during usage, even now @ 86% of designed capacity, this seems like early cutoff?4. What exactly does that orange led mean, how to get additional data?5. Why should a battery with good health, not over discharged, stop working? Thanks to everybody.

Hi, my one year old S430, which currently has its third mainboard and has already spent around three months of its young life in warranty repairs, shows a new problem since the last repair:When powered on while on battery (with the battery fully charged) it beeps twice and shows "0190: Critical low-battery error", refusing to boot. This happens frequently but not always. If i am fast enough i can enter and leave the BIOS-Setup and the problem is temporarily healed - machine boots normally. With the first two mainboards i had never run into this. The current one had a prehistoric BIOS Version (from 2012) after replacement, so at first i thought this might cause the problem - but actually the problem persists after an update to the latest BIOS Version. For the S431 this seems to be a known problem fixed by the latest BIOS. Any ideas/suggestions for the S430? Oh, and PS: Thanks Lenovo for the excellent customer experience. When people ask me which Laptop to buy (which happens quite often), my answer is now "anything but Lenovo" (used to be "get a ThinkPad, be happy" before the S430).

Hello,  I recently bought a replacement battery for my T530, upgrading from the 6-cell to the 9-cell version. While I did not buy it from Lenovo, I bought it on ebay, the seller had very high ratings, and as far as I could tell it is genuine. It worked wonderfully for a few weeks, however yesterday upon boot-up I received the "Battery is not supported by this system and will not charge" error.  I don't understand how it could possibly be a counterfeit battery if it's worked fine up until now. I would really appreciate any ideas! Thanks!

I have brand new lenovo Yoga 15. From the first start up I am getting this error message: Battery Not Detected I don't know what is going on but this is a new machine right? Anyway, the laptop is connected 24/7 to AC, yesterday I needed to unplug it and after 5 minutes the system turned off. After turning it on I got this error screened: Critical low-battery error The thing is after I turned it on for the second time everything was great. The battery said that it's 100% charged. But after another 5 minutes or something the battery turned off again - WTH? Does the laptop's battery is broken and I need to give it for the guarantee?

Answer:Yoga 15 - Battery Not Detected - Critical low-battery error

Hi TomHG Which is the full model number of your machine? What I would try to do first is try to update the BIOS of your computer and the power related drivers just in case. But the message that is showing the problem on the BIOS (before Windows boot) it is not nice. I would try tp update the drivers with the following tools- Windows Update- Lenovo System Update- Install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion.- Check on Lenovo Support site the driver for your model. If after updating the BIOS and power drivers of your computer the problem remains there, I will recommend to contact the Lenovo Support Center. If you are still under warranty Lenovo should fix it by replacing any part. Regards

Hi, stevazulu

To clarify, the machine works perfectly fine with the AC adapter attached? If this is the case, then I would guess that the issue is something internal that will need to be replaced/fixed. I would give Lenovo Support a call at 0800 110756 and discuss the issue with them and see if you can get the machine set up for repair.

Running into an issue with a relatively new (refurbished) x220 (9-cell battery) and a brand new 19+ 6-cell sheet battery. Namely: 19+ sheet battery seems to be dead after only a few weeks of ownership. The external battery is listed in Power Manager as Battery 2, which doesn't give a percentage / charge value but rather reads "Battery 2: There is an error." When I click on Battery Firmware Update, it lists the current firmware version for Battery 2 as 0000-0000-000-0000, and "last checked" as blank. (Battery 1 firmware version is 0003-005c-0030-00fa, also with a blank "last checked" space.) Checking for updates for EITHER battery returns "No updates found".  When I attempt to reset the battery gauge, it tells me to plug in my AC adapter. When it's already plugged into the external battery. In fact, when I plug my AC adapter into the external battery, I get an error message informing me that I should plug my AC adapter into the external battery rather than into my laptop's chassis. (Never have I ever plugged into the chassis with the external battery attached. It told me not to.) Lenovo Solutions Center tells me there's an issue with a battery, and, at the top, states "A communication problem has occured". It suggests that I open Power Manager. Power Manager  yields the above results. Most interesting part: The charge level lights on the battery don't light up, even when plugged in. Here is what happened. i have my battery setting sets at optimized battery health, that means it stays at 60%.  I was watching a world cup game full screen with optimized battery health setting and at 19:55:00, as you see in the report, i decided to unplug from AC. within 5 min from unplug and watching full screen streaming, battery dropped 51% from 58% to 7%. WTH? does anyone know what happen? does it mean my battery is bad? My yoga 13 is brand new, recently bought in Nov 2013, so it's been 7 months. thanks

Answer:anyone know why my battery can drop 51% in 5 min? is it battery reading error?

It might  have been a bug from the energy management that the battery has been uncharged for a long time thus draining it considerably in reality. However energy management reports the same 60% charge but in reality its around 30% or less since it's been left uncharged for a long time. Also, those battery percentages aren't updated in real time. They're updated on a periodic basis and extrapolate from it that's why battery runtime that is shown on Windows power icon (system tray) generally overestimates the actual capacity.

Hi, having run my 2847-btg for some time on battery I connected the psu in order not to drain the battery completely. Eventually, I realized that the battery is not being charged anymore, but stayed in its 20% charged status. I then drained it completely, but when connecting the psu back the power indicator flashes yellow in a 1s cycle and does not charge. The question I have is it a fault on the mainboard or of  the battery? The battery is rather new with no wear level. It is a compatible battery from Sanyo that worked fine up to now. Probably the fault occurred , when I connected the psu, since a a spark occured when connected with the mains. A spark happening when connecting the psu with the mains is however quite normal. Of course I know, that the easiest way to find out the problem would be to try anaother battery or to place the battery in another Thinkpad. Unfortunately, I do not have access to these possibilities. So may be someone has had a similar experience and might want to tell how to resolve the problem. Thanks for any helpAlzi

Answer:Battery is not more charged

Hey there alzi,

When you go into the Lenovo Solution Center/ThinkVantage Power Manager and check the Battery Health (while the battery is plugged in of course) what is the health? any error messages?

Have you tried a static discharge? I have personally used this method when I have encountered the "plugged in and not charging" with success. This can be performed by:

Unplug the power supply
Remove the battery
Disconnect any cords or express cards
Press the power button 10 times, and on the 10th press hold it for 30 seconds

And have you by chance performed a battery guage reset?

Lastly, have you made sure you BIOS are up to date?

I hope this helps.

After one time I forgot shut down my X61 without power supply .  Battery was run out. When I tried to charge my battery again.  It does not work.  Power manger shows battery always stay in 0% and no activity. Vista shows plugging in, not charging.  Also I am sure software settings is right.  What can I do?  Do I need to contact Lenovo or local supporter.

Answer:X61 battery can not be charged

you over discharged the battery, you have to call Lenovo to get it exchanged. I want to ask what brand is your battery, Sanyo or Panasonic or Sony???? next time set your automatic shutoff at around 10% battery level and warning at 15% level, to prevent further over discharge incidents. Some brand of battery you can recover from this error while some brand you can't, i committed the same mistake last month, thinking i fried the battery and had to repurchase, but luck was on my side. I was able to recharge it after leaving it charged overnight in the laptop.

Hello I just got my x201T about two weeks ago.  I got an 8-cell battery.  Today I took out the plug, the system told me it was 100% charged with 3:24 hours remaining. The most it had said before was I think 5 hours.... I tracked the battery for about 9-12 min.  The most minutes it stated was 4:27 (about 9 minutes in); it then went to 3:12 five minutes later.  It's now telling me it has 68% left with time 3:35.  (crazy) Do I need to "optimize" battery?  Or do the BIOS? It's part # 42T4658 thanksKaydee X201TWindows 7 64 bitMultitouch screen

Answer:What's up with my battery? 100% charged but...

Hi buzzfish,

Just came across a link last week on T61 board that had this:-

"Remaining time is calculated based on the current remaining capacity divided by the average current battery consumption (wattage). Depending on the current battery wattage consumption, remaining time calculated can change. For example, with the system running at the Maximum Performance setting for the processor, the system consumes more battery power, so the remaining time is shorter. A good analogy would be driving a car. When you drive faster, you use more gasoline; slower uses less. If you speed up and slow down frequently, it is more difficult to estimate how much driving time you have left."

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/pfan-3qnqjn.html

Hope this helps n understand the battery.

1. Accumulator batteries cannot be charged AT ALL. Notebook works only when - at the same time when using the notebook - accumulator is being charged.

Answer:M40: Battery can not be charged

Hi

I hope that you can use the unit just on battery without AC power supply. If the empty battery can not be charged properly there must be some failure of power supply electronic. As far as I know you can not fix it alone.

Please contact service partner in your country and let them check the unit. Valid warranty will cover all costs.

Hello,

I'm running Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop. Although it's a laptop, I actually use it as if it were a desktop computer and I always run it off the mains rather than via the battery.

Most of the time, it automatically maintains the battery charge at 100% during sessions. However in the past there have been two or three periods where it has allowed the battery charge to reduce to quite a low percentage before charging it back up to 100% again. I assume the power management system does this periodically because it helps to prolong the battery life.

At the moment it is going through one of these periods. However the charge percentage is now right down at 10%, lower than it has ever reached before. I'm beginning to wonder whether the battery is at the end of its life and no longer rechargeable.

As I intend to continue always running off the mains, this is not concerning me unduly. But I'm wondering whether it's advisable to continue using the computer with a completely dead battery (if this eventually happens). Would it be better to remove the battery?

Can you please advise me on this?

Answer:Computer battery not being charged

I think your battery life has ended. As it can damage the charger or even the internal power supply, I recommend that you remove it from the Laptop and buy a new one.
On Lithium or NI-ME batteries, the life is related to number of charges (~600).
So, if you power the laptop once a day, even if the battery is charged just a little, it will count as a charge and the battery will die after two years
A friend has found that if he use his laptop at the office without the battery and attach the battery only when he has no power supply, the battery will last forever.

Ok, I have been battling this problem for a few months now.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. Around Thanksgiving last year, I purchased a new, non-dell laptop battery. For the first month or so, it was working fine, held a 2 1/2 hour charge, and gave me no trouble.

But, for some reason, the battery will randomly say that it is not charged, and will not charge when I have my laptop on (or even off, I've left it off for a full 24 hours, plugged in to let it charge and nothing happened)

However, the reason it wont charge, is because the battery is already at 100%, but my computer reads it as 0%. I ended up finding this out on accident, because for some reason, when I booted up my laptop, and ran Diagnostics, the problem fixed itself, but only for a short while. So every few weeks I have had to do this, just so I can use my laptop not plugged in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Laptop says battery is not charged

Well.... You already answered your question.... You bought a no name battery on ebay... IMO buy a replacement from dell... Or your laptop charging system could have easily been fried if the battery had the wrong voltage.

hi pico123,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

For the battery problem, can you try to do a cold shutdown, charge the battery while the computer is off and observe the battery light indicators.
  - Link to picture

As for the FPS drop, try to:
1. Uninstall the Intel Display Driver and use Display Driver Uninstaller to remove the Nvidia display driver.
2. Set the power settings to High Performance and follow this guide on how to disable automatic driver installation.
3. Reinstall the following drivers (in order):

1st:
 Intel Video Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - Lenovo Y50-70, Y50-70 Touch

2nd:
Nvidia Video Driver for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - Lenovo Y50-70, Y50-70 Touch

4. Set the Nvidia GPU as the preferred graphics processor and set the GPU power saving mode to Maximum Performance.

Hi All, Not sure if this a hardware issue as I just bought HP split x2 but after the battery 1 gets charged fully (100%), battery 2 says 0% available (plugged in, not charging). Is this battery issue or am I missing something? Thanks.

Answer:Battery 2 not getting charged in HP Split x2

I'm getting the exact same issue on my Split x2. Per another thread, I undocked the tablet and let the base charge for a couple hours, and then redocked, but Battery #2 still says 0% available (plugged in, not charging). Also, when docked, it says 51% charged because it is averaging the charge for both batteries. Very annoying.

My wife has a Dell Inspiron 1150, with Windows XP, and it won't run on the battery. It runs fine when it's plugged in but when the plug is removed, it just dies instantly, like there is no battery. I've checked the power settings in control panel, and I've checked in BIOS and it says the battery is charged to 97% and the AC adapter was reading 65W, which the Dell troubleshooting guide said means that the AC adapter is working fine. I also removed the battery to check for debris or bent pins or something, and I started the computer without the battery and it runs fine. But it just won't seem to use the battery. Any ideas?

standard warranty for battery lasts only for one year, so if you have tried these methods to get the battery working, and it is still not working as expected. Then it is best that you call up warranty and request a battery or send the laptop in for a diagnosis.

Answer:How do I find out when my battery has charged to 4...

This is another way to check the battery level. Why people suggest to charge the battery to around 70% is simple. The 100% charge level is a "stress" for the battery to keep such a level of charge. A lower charge level is not so stressful for the battery. But as I told you you don't have any way to clearly specify on the notebook to what level to charge your battery, at least not on acer notebooks. Some sony notebooks had this option implemented in their hardware.

I just got a used T41 laptop and have a weird problem.  It runs fine on battery only or with a partially charged battery.  But when I remove the battery and try to run on AC only, I get the "charger removed beep and screen flash warning" over and over again.  The same thing happens when the battery is installed and reaches full charge.  As it approaches full charge, I'll get the warning once in awhile.  But once it reaches full charge, or with the battery removed, it happens intermittently, every few seconds.  If I turn off the "Power Control" alarm in the BIOS, I don't get the beeps but the screen still flashes.  Also, the alarms start before the OS is loaded.  They occur even at the first screen where it allows you to press the IBM Access button.  It seems to be some sort of "over voltage" alarm.  I have Grub installed for dual booting XP and Linux and while Grub menu is displayed and I turn the LCD brightness up and down, the alarm frequency increases as I decrease the brightness. As it stands, I can only use the computer by unplugging the AC when the battery reaches about 90% charge, running on battery only till it drops to about 20%, and then plugging the AC back in.  Frustrating!!!

Answer:T41 won't run on AC only or with fully charged battery

try updating the bios and uninstall the Thinkvantage power manager to see whether that helps.
Also, is the battery on the laptop OEM or aftermarket? whom is the manufacturer of the battery cell? Sanyo, Sony or Panasonic?
