I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a T430s with Windows 7 and my webcam stopped working. It gives me the grey background and a white camera with a cross through it when I try to use skype. I have to go to Communication Utility settings and select "Show my video" to activate it every time my computer starts. And if I leave my computer on for a while the camera just goes black and can't be used at all. It is worth mentioning that my Web Conferencing/Communication Utility was not opening some weeks ago and it started working again although it is quite slow at opening, and since this has been happening my computer startups have also been slower and I had some issues in which the screen would go black at startup several times and I had to restore the system from safe mode. I think it is also related to the Communication Utility issue.Any idea how to fix this? I tried downloading a fresh version of Web Conferencing/Communication Utility but it was no good; the webcam didn't work at all.

I recently purchase at T430s and mistakenly did not include the webcam option. I was wondering though if it is possible/doable to buy the webcam part and install it myself? I think this is the part I need - http://www.impactcomputers.com/04w2850.html - But I have no expereince with changing any parts in computers. Basically what I am asking is if I buy that part will I be able to have a webcam on my new laptop?thanks

I've owned this laptop for quite a while and had been using Webcam Central to control the Integrated Webcam on my Alienware M17x R4.   I never had any issues using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or even Windows 10 until my system updated on 8/20/2016 with a scheduled Windows 10 update.
After the windows 10 update my system restarted and the next time I went to use my webcam I noticed that I couldn't control the pan / zoom / or tilt or alter any of the settings in webcam central.  If I attempt to change anything it automatically changes back instantly.  For example of I move the slider to zoom, or attempt to change the pan, it auto goes back to where it was and will not allow me to change the settings.
I also notice that my mouse pointer flickers over the webcam central GUI, meaning, there seems to be some issue with the GUI after the windows 10 update, I assume is also whats causing the settings not to be changed.
I have tried uninstalling both the drivers and software and reinstalling to no avail, same problem is present after reinstallation of both drivers and the webcam central software.
Wondering if anyone else has run into this and whether there was some type of resolution.
I was able to get the pan / zoom / tilt working with 3rd party webcam software, however I would prefer to go back to using webcam central.

---------My laptop model is Inspiron 17R 5720 and Im having the exact same problem after the Microsoft Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607: August 31, 2016 - KB3176938, done Sep 4th. I was also already running Win10 and it didnt mess with Webcam Central - till yesterday when I gave the reboot necessary to install the update files.Pan/Zoom/Position Arrows show as available to be used but if you try to use then, nothing happens and back to full zoom. Only thing it allows me to do is to change to Face Tracking.I called Dell Suport Center and for about 2 hours I ran diagnostics and tried possible solutions with the tech assistant but he wasnt very helpfull at all. All diagnostics came back with positive/OK/passed results and they offered me a paid support to fix the problem. Not exactly a good solution, is it?It was clear though MS updates messed up with the webcam driver - I checked myself at Devices/Imaging there was an update for the driver done exactly when MS updates were done. Unfortunatelly, the rollback option wasnt available. For that matter, I decided to uninstall the whole Windows KB3176938 and CAPICOM (what ever that is) updates done using Control Panel/Updates but no-go. Next step was to google for that problem which leaded me to other Dell Forum threads pointing to reinstall Webcam Central which also didnt work at all then I bumped into your threa... Read more

Lenovo Team, I am texting you through this forum as it doesn't seem any hotline feels responsible for my issue. Mid February I ordered a T430s online and was looking forward to a brand new laptop to replace my old run-down Vaio. A few days in with the new machine I was looking for the webcam, a feature the T430 series usually comes with (I educated myself through various websites, including the Lenovo website and an integrated webcam seemed to be a common feature). To cut the story short: I bought a laptop without a webcam. Neither the sales nor the technical service feels responsible. I was asked to complete a survey in which I laid out my problem and asked for someone reaching out to me - no response. I used to be a loyal Lenovo product user buy this experience makes me think you become a 'hands-off brand'. I am happy to pay up if it is a matter of pricing but  I won't use a 14 inches laptop with an external webcam.  Any reaction from your team, besides 'sorry, you dialled the wrong number', would be appreciated.

Answer:T430s - No webcam / no customer service

Hi there, welcome to the forums,

exactly which model did you order, and where was it ordered from; Digital River, retailer, other web shop? Maybe you could post the order number or type and model number of the system.  Was a camera shown on the description at checkout or on any order confirmation you may have received.  Having this information will help us help Lenovo identify any areas which may be offering incorrect or misleading information.

There are T430s systems which do not have cameras as there are systems which do not have backlit keyboards.  Systems without cameras are still offered; there is actually quite a large demand because some companies do not allow notebooks, mobile phones and other devices with cameras into their premises for security reasons.

I upgraded (clean install) from Windows 8 to 8.1 and all the drivers. Everythig is working nicely, except the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software has stopped working. Whenever I try to enroll fingerprints it shows:

E7210005 Fingerprint sensor device is exclusively used by another application.

The device manager shows TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode) with the following status: This device is working properly.

I have also tried clearing scans in BIOS. It was working in Windows 8, but not in 8.1. I have tried everything possible, but no go - uninstall, reinstall, clear settings in BIOS, tried installing older version ... nothing helps.

Please urgently assist as this is an important issue for me.

I can no longer use or enroll finger prints on my T430s laptop running Windows 8.1!ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is 6.0.0.8102.Sensor: TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode). Driver version: 1.6.2.352.  Symptom: when trying to enroll a fingerprint, I get the message: 'Use a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprint,' the sensor light turns from green to blinking orange (3 times), then back to green. Same happens when when trying to enroll from Windows PC Setting/ Sign-in Options/ Fingerprint (Add). What I tried: uninstalling ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software and Driver (to include selecting 'Delete the driver software for this device'), rebooting, using Lenovo System Update to re-install ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, rebooting. Have also tried to manually install previous versions of the Fingerprint Software to no avail.  Note: I had this similar problem in the past, since upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, but the steps above usually resolved it.  Has anybody encountered this issue? Any ideas for a solution? Many thanks!

Try rebooting into BIOS Setup (reboot and press F1 at the Lenovo/ThinkPad logo screen).  Then change to the Security menu, Fingerprint option, and choose the option about "Reset Fingerprint Data".  Then press F10 to save and exit and boot back into Windows.  Then try to enroll your finger again.

I'm running a Thinkpad T430s with a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. After a few days, the wifi disconnected and won't reconnect. Wireless card is Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205.  Network Settings has the wifi switched to off. Clicking it to switch to on changes nothing - it shows as on, but connections don't work, and if I close the Network Settings window and re-open, the switch is back to off. Windows 10 will not switch off of airplane mode. Clicking the mode button does nothing - the icon stays blue. Ethernet works fine. An external USB wifi dongle works fine, but I'd like to use the built-in wifi. Things I have tried:Run all updates through Windows Update.Clean reinstall Windows 10 using an install disk created from Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. Reformatted the main partition for this reinstall.Run all updates through Lenovo Companion, including a BIOS update.Reset the BIOS to factory settings.Made sure WLAN is enabled in the BIOS.Made sure that the hardware wifi switch is set to on. Switched it back and forth between on and off, to make sure what I thought was on was actually on.Replaced the wifi card with another card. Made sure that the cables are connected firmly, the card is seated and the screw replaced. Both the original and replacement cards are Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205.Rescanned for hardware changes in Device Manager. Uninstalled the wireless card. Disabled it. Enabled it. Checked for driver updates.Booted into a live Ubuntu 14.0... Read more

Answer:T430s Windows 8 load Integrated camera is not working!

Hi, prakashp

Could you possibly take a screenshot of the slash that you get so we can better understand the issue? You can use Snipping Tool to easily do this. Open up Snipping Tool and have your camera software running. You can then drag the box from Snipping Tool over the slash and take a picture with it. You can then add that picture to your post.

Thanks in advance,

Adam

The problem simply is, the webcam stopped working for some reason, an error messeage says "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer".

I noticed that whenever I put the computer in sleep mode I was getting on the icon tray a notification says "USB device unrecognized"... I wasnt aware what it was - thought it becasue of the USB mouse being plugged... but I think its related to the camera...

software is installed but camera is not working and cant enable it .. I did download the latest driver from toshiba site , but still not working ...

Currently my laptop runs Vista HP SP2 32-bit, Windows defender enabled, Windows Firewall Enabled, Windows UAC enabled, Kaspersky Ani-Virus 2009 Enabled. I only use Windows Live Messenger (which up to date I think , version : 14.0.8089.726) which i used camera with, I quite using face recognition long time ago and rarely use the webcam ... I didnt install or update any drivers and used to have the laptop running perfectly..

So what happened now ?!

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5: webcam stopped working - Webcam driver open fail

Hi

I have had a similar error message and could solve this by disabling the webcam software from startup.
In msconfig -> Start Up tab I have unchecked the Chicony webcam software.
This prevents it from automatic loading.
I don?t use MSN but Skype and the Chicony webcam software is always disabled (not executed) if Skype is running.

Maybe you should try this too.

Furthermore you could try this:
Go to device manager, mark the webcam (imaging devices ? USB video device) and deleted it from the device list.
Then reboot the notebook and wait until the webcam has been recognized again.

Then test it.

After looking through this forum, I have tried several 'solutions' but to no avail.

After trying to load the webcam i get the message: "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer"

I have tried updating the Driver software for the camera, and updated the BIOS.

This message still keeps coming up. Is it worth uninstalling the camera completely then attemtping to reinstall it?

Sorry if some of this doesnt make much sense, im not entirely "computer savvy"

I hope somebody can help,

Thanks,

Answer:Satellite A300-1MC: webcam not working - webcam driver open fail

> Is it worth uninstalling the camera completely then attemtping to reinstall it?
Of course!

You should firstly go to device manager and should uninstall the driver.
You should also remove the software from control panel -> Software

After that you should clean the OS and registry using CCleaner. It?s free tool? google?
Then reboot the notebook several times and install the webcam software again.

Cheers

Recently my webcam has just stopped functioning. This laptop is brand new however and I just got it on the 14th.
I have no clue why it wont' work anymore. I checked under device manager and under Imaging devices its called "facap, FastAccess Video Capture".
I enabled it, for some reason it had become disabled, and it wouldn't work. And it seems no Driver updates are available. Also have tried reinstalling the driver but it didn't work. I then uninstalled the old driver and tried to install the driver and it failed. So I used Windows Restore Point feature thing. Now its just disabled.
Any ideas on how to fix it?

Apparently FN+F9 will enable or disable the webcam!
It seems that I had done this inadvertently at some point and turned it off, and while messing around for a solution the other day, II tried the combo it turned back on the webcam!
Quite a powerful key combination I have to say if manually enabling the web cam and reinstalling the web cam driver don't do anything.

Hey everyone,  I've been having this weird problem where my Fn+F5 combination (which toggles wireless on and off) has stopped working. I recently uninstalled, and then reinstalled, the lenovo driver for power management in windows 8 64, because I was having the same problem with putting the computer into sleep mode via Fn+F4 (I think by reinstalling the driver, it fixed the sleep mode problem but screwed up my "toggle wireless" ability via keyboard). If the power management driver was potentially the culprit for these two problems, and I reinstall it once again, could it potentially mess something else up, or am I going too far out on a limb here?

I can't seem to get my webcam to turn on.  My Privacy settings are all open and I have run the software and LSC scanning.  LSC says it's ok and passed the tests.  But when I look in Device Manager it does not list there.  I downloaded the software from Lenovo and installed it, it still doesn't show in Device Manager.

Hi,

Some weeks ago after a windows update or something, the webcam stopped working under windows. It isn't a hardware problem, as it works fine under Ubuntu.

Laptop Model: Toshiba Satellite L50-A-18R
Webcam Hardware ID: USB\VID_04F2&PID_B41A&REV_2960&MI_00

Tried:
Uninstalling & Reinstalling the driver in the Device Manager
If I try the "On-line search" option, it fails to find the driver.Installing Toshiba Web Camera Application [doesn't work either]Reinstalling Toshiba System Settings app.Searching on-line by the hardware ID for the drivers.

But it's no use, i'd need the driver files to make it work again.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I've finally found a way to resolve the inverted / vertically flipped / upside down webcam issue with the Chicony camera in the X220T and others when viewed with the Windows 10 Camera App.  FIrst, install the Windows 7 webcam driver for the X220T. This will create an error in the Windows 10 Camera App.  Then install the ThinkVantage Communications Utility. In the Windows Control Panel, click "Hardware and Sound", then "Lenovo - Web Conferencing". In the "Advanced Camera Settings", check "Flip" until the webcam image is the right way up.  Now, in Device Manager, go to "Imaging Devices", then right click on "Integrated Camera" and click "roll back driver". If this option is greyed out, click "Update Driver", "Browse my Computer", "Pick from a list", select "USB Video Device", then click next.  The webcam driver now in use should be the default one from Microsoft. However, if you go back to the Windows 10 Camera app, the webcam image is the right way up! Hooray! P.S. Considering the solution is so simple (probably due to some entry in the registry), I wonder why Lenovo hasn't already issued a permanent fix for this?

WEBCAM NOT WORKING. I have a Toshiba DX730 All-in-One desktop PC running Windows 10. Since I upgraded to Windows 10 my integrated webcam has not worked. I have unsuccessfully tried the following:-

1. Checked the BIOS to ensure the webcam is enabled - it is.

2. Uninstalled/installed the appropriate drivers from Toshiba Support numerous times, including after a clean boot.

3. Uninstalled the hardware from Device Manager numerous times. An interesting point here is that the webcam does not appear in Device Manager under Imaging Devices, but is shown under Other Devices as USB 2.0 Camera, next to which is the dreaded yellow exclamation mark. Right clicking this and selecting Properties always shows that no driver is installed. I've run Driver Update and pointed it to the appropriate folder, but Windows always fails to find the driver.

4. Uninstalled Skype, just in case it was causing a conflict.

5. Run the software in compatibility mode.

None of this has worked!! When I open the Camera app the following error message appears "Something went wrong. Make sure your camera is connected and not being used by another app". Skype cannot detect a webcam.

Any help would be much appreciated.

So recently my computer was re-installed with a fresh copy of windows 7, and not the packard bell windows 7 previously installed.

Everything works perfectly except my webcam, which doesn't seem to work at all or with any program.

I think this could be because I don't have the webcam driver installed as this driver wasn't included in this version of windows 7.

I have scoured the download section of the Packard bell website and there is no webcam driver listed with the other drivers for this computer.

I can't even find the driver after doing a google search :(

What do I do???

My computer is a Packard bell Easynote TK37.

Thank you :)

Answer:Re-installed windows 7, webcam not working :( help!

go to packard bells website and download it from there. It is not in the driver section, it is in the application section.

hi everyone...
i'm a newbie here, desperately need some help regarding to this issue
my laptop is ASUS A42F, I'm using windows 7 ultimate 64x

before i re-install windows 7 ultimate, built in camera was working properly. and now my webcam is nowhere to be found, oh and ASUS hotkey utility also not working properly after i re-install it.

i've been searching all over the web for the last 4 days
tried by uninstalling n installing the built-in camera driver but it's still not working.

i checked in device manager, imaging devices, properties in the general tab and it says something like this in the location info:

0000.001d.0000.001.001.000.000.000.000 and it says "this device is working properly"

out of curiosity i also tried another cam/ plug-in usb webcam (it's still work properly in my friend laptop) and the result still the same, nothing happened in my laptop. the location info also says something like i mention above.

it's like my webcam is lost somewhere in my laptop, I hv no idea why windows won't detect it?

can anyone help me, i would really appreciate all your efforts, hope i could get some clue of what happen and resolve this issue. thank u

Good afternoon everybody, hope you had a great Christmas.

Unfortunately, one of the gifts I received this Christmas, a webcam (specificially, this webcam), refuses to work on my Windows XP Home computer.

The drivers appeared to install fine (although there was a warning about a missing streamci.dll, which I later put into my system32 folder), however when I try to view the webcam by going into My Computer > Webcam, it gives the following error message -

I realised that it may be a hardware problem, but the product works fine on a friend's Win XP Home laptop with similar specification. To make sure it was a fault with my computer in particular, I tried the webcam function of a conventional digital stills cam and the result was the same - worked fine on the laptop, but the same error occured on my computer. Consequently, I posted the problem here, suspecting it was related to my Win. XP installation as opposed to a hardware fault.

If anyone has any idea how I could go about trying to fix this problem, I would be hugely grateful. Is there any part of Windows I could reinstall or repair relating to its webcam support?

A massive thanks in advance to anyone who can give any help whatsoever.

PS: Service Pack 2 is installed on both systems.

Answer:Windows' webcam component not working(?)

First go to the device manager and check you’re USB for any flags. If there is a flag, remove the device that it is beside and restart the computer and have windows replace it. If there is no flag go into the BIOS and check and see if the USB port is enabled or disabled make sure that it is enabled.

Hello,

The integrated Webcam with my Dell Laptop Inspiron 7537 has stopped working after the windows 10 update. It is not mentioned in the device list under the device manager section. I have tried Dell troubleshooting but it says that the device and the driver were not detected. The driver is not available on the Dell support webpage under the drivers section.

Please help. I am highly fed up of not being able to Skype for business purposes.

Hi shaivalshah50,
Good work on troubleshooting. If you have updated the BIOS, ran the diagnostics and still if you find webcam not detected then it should be faulty.
Also, I would suggest you to restore the system back to previous operating system to check if webcam works.

Have you r-installed skype?

Does it do the same thing when booted in safe mode (F8)?

is the driver installed and working (in device manager)??

Please go to start>search>type device manager.
Are there any "unknown devices" with yellow triangles on them?
Is you driver there , listed, and working?

If your driver is missing, or there is a yellow triangle on it, you will need to update it.

what driver did you install? was it win 7, vista, or??????

Regarding camera, check device manager. If there is exclamation or x mark there, you probably need to install a driver. Get the driver from the laptop website. You should be able to use windows 8 driver if 10 is not available.

I have a Logitech C250 webcam. As soon as I upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista, I was no longer able to connect to people through Logitech Vid or Skype. I plugged the camera into my second computer with XP and it works fine.

I have uninstalled the drivers and software from my Windows 7 machine and got new software and drivers from Logitech's site specifically for Windows 7, but it still won't work. Logitech support is worthless. They blame my connection but it works just fine on other machines.

What firewall, antivirus are you using. Current version of WLM?
We could also use the system specs (lower left corner) filled in so we know what hardware you have. 32bit or 64? clean install or upgrade?

Hi,

I've just bought a Samsung R580 and the built-in webcam is working fine on skype and everything else except for msn messenger. When I connect on video chat with someone, I can see myself but they can't see me and I can not see them, checked my firewall settings- using Mcafee and windows live messenger has full access. I also tried it with my Logitech Quickcam, downloaded softwares too... same thing, I can see myself - webcam is working but people can't see me and I can't see them. Funny thing is it worked once briefly.

And on another chat platform, video is connecting fine but unable to connect to server. It occasionally connects briefly then logs off in 2 minutes.

Hi, I recently bought a T430s and when I tried to insert a SD card it did not show up in my computer. I've tried 3 different SD cards the sizes are16 gb, 32 gb and 2 gb and neither of them shows up, to make sure the problem is not in the SD card I tried using the SD cards in 2 cameras and 2 other laptops. In all those devices the cards works.I have tried installing these drivers from this thread https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/New-T430s-4-in-1-express-card-SD-reader-mi... but it did not work. I also tried following the instructions in this thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T430s-card-reader-cannot-read-16-GB-SDHC-ca... but that did not help either.According to the device manager the Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Host Controller is working correctly. The Ricoh SD Disk Device is also working correctly. Whenever I insert the SD card the Sound for a new device plays and when i remove the SD card the removal sound plays. How can I fix this? I'm going away for 7 weeks with my laptop so I need to fix it ASAP and I dont have time to send the laptop to Lenovo. EDIT:I uninstalled Ricoh Media driver and now 1 of the cards show up but Windows complains about that it needs to be formatted, but the size is 0 so that doesn't work either. Answer:T430s SDHC card reader not working

I'm experiencing a similar situation with my 1-year old T430s. The built-in card reader was working fine until recently when it stopped working.

Now the built-in SD card reader doesn't recognize SD cards that are recognized in external USB adapters.

Device Manager shows Ricoh PCIe SDXC/MMC Controller when an SD card is inserted into the card reader but neither Windows Computer Management/Disk Management nor Windows Explorer show the drive. Device Manager indicates that the driver is up-to-date (v6.10.10.32 25May11.)

When I put the same SD cards into an external USB adapter they're recognized by Windows, assigned a drive letter and visible to Windows Explorer as well as other applications.

Do I have a defective card reader?

I used to be able to switch on my T430s and log on with only one swipe. Recently I've no long been able to do so. Attempting to install Thinkvantage fingerprint software resulted with an error that i is not compatible with my OS. The last time it worked I had it working since the the installation of Win8 ( and win 7 I believe, but can't be sure) and it was still working after an upgrade to Win 8.1.  As it is the case with the win8 family it frequently requires a reinstall of the OS. Since the last install just now I seem to be unable to switch on the t430s with a swipe. Also the green led no longer lights up.  Can I still use Predesktop authentication, or was this feature dropped=

Hi all,     I got my T430s a month ago and I found some issues. One of them is the volume button is not working when I use some softwares, such as Vmware Workstation 8.0.4(but the brightness adjustment works fine) and KMplayer(the mute button not working).   The volume button is also not responsive as previous Thinkpad models(I used X200 and X201). Sometimes I press it several times and the volume didn't change so keep pressing it, but then suddenly the sound jumped to very loud and the indicator bar showed on the screen simutaneously. I think it may caused by some bugging drivers. Anyone met the same issue? Hope lenovo engineers can solve this problem.

Answer:T430s-2352 volume button not working sometimes

It sounds like it could be a driver issue.  Here is your keyboard/mouse driver:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS019164

and hotkey driver here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS029026

You may also want to run ThinkVantage System Update (linked below if you need it).

Let us know if this helps.

Hi! Sometimes it works, sometimes it takes the skin of my fingers to get two finger scroll working. The system update does not see a reason to update the drivers. Is there more effective software for the synaptic touchpad to do two finger scroll?

Answer:t430s Two finger scroll not working reliably

Hi, theking2

System Update is a very useful tool, but I find it best to always check for driver updates manually, just in case the updater missed something. The latest version of the Syanptics driver can be found here and may help your issue.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I can't figure out if the 30 day standby feature is working on my laptop or if I enabled it correctly. Has anyone with a native SSD Ivy Bridge laptop been able to test out the feature? Here's is what I've done:I replaced the HDD that came with my T430s with a Samsung 830 SSD and wanted to enable the 30 day standby feature. My understanding is that this feature is identical to Intel Rapid Start which writes the hibernation system state to SSD and puts the CPU in a Deep Sleep (S4) state. I think the only difference between this and Windows' hybrid sleep feature is that it requires a separate hibernation partition on an SSD. Here is what I've done:1. Created an 8GB hibernation partition on my SSD (I have 8GB of RAM)2. Enabled the 30 day standby feature in the Power Manager3. Enabled Hybrid Sleep in Power Manager power plan4. Disabled hibernation (powercfg /hibernate off)5. Set the delay in the BIOS to Immediately to test out the feature (I want to set the value to something greater than an hour once I prove it works) I restarted my computer and unplugged the AC power (Lenovo's description in the Power Manager help indicates that AC power will disable deeper sleep and hibernation). The computer will sleep but will not go into a deeper sleep state and it comes back from sleep within 2 seconds. I have tried using Windows' Hybrid Sleep feature, which requires hibernate to be enabled, and found it to be undesirable because I can't set when the laptop sleeps vs. hybrid sleep... Read more

Answer:T430s - 30 day standby - how to determine it is working and how to enable it

The easiest way to use 30-day standby is to buy the SSD (or mSATA) option from Lenovo and use the preload that comes on it.  We don't really expect anyone to try to get this working on their own.  There are too many little pieces that have to fit together.  We did a lot of work for the SSD preload to make it "just work".

Having said all that, I'll try to help.

If you have Power Manager installed, the transition between Sleep and 30-day standby happens after 3 hours.  This is regardless of what the BIOS setting is.  The BIOS setting is only effective when Power Manager isn't installed.  I know, this doesn't make any sense and it's not explained anywhere.

How exactly did you create the 8GB hibernation partition?  Did you know that it has to be created in DISKPART with id=84 (for legacy MBR format) or {D3BFE2DE-3DAF-11DF-BA40-E3A556D89593} (for UEFI GPT format)?  Did you do that?

The easiest way to test this is to uninstall Power Manager.  Then set the BIOS setting to "immediately" and make sure that works.  When you put the system to sleep (e.g. close the lid or press Fn-F4), then you should see it immediately wake back up and transition into the deep sleep state, then the power LED will turn off completely.  When you turn the system back on (either by pressing the Power Button or opening the lid), then the system will resume.  You'll know that it's resuming from the deep sleep state because... Hi, I just bought this T430s from the outlet store. I noticed a rather loud fan noise and found out s lot of compalints about the T430 model. I guess the problem I have is not as severe as those T430 users (e.g. the noise may not be as loud), but I still want to monitor the fan speed. Here's my problem: 1. none of the third party software can show fan speed, they can only show the cpu temperature, such as speedfan and aida64. 2. I tried to download the fanspeedcontrol driver from lenovo, but after installing it, the task manager does not show that the fanspeedcontrol exe. is working.  I do not want to change the fan speed, but just want to monitor the speed so that I can have a better understanding of whats going on. Does anyone have the similar problem?  Thanks.

Hi all, I bought 2nd Hard Drive Bay Caddy for my T430s but it does not seem to work. The HDDs I placed in it do not even start to spin, and they are not recognized by the laptop BIOS as also by my OSes, Windows and Linux. The label on the caddy says it is P/N 26r9247, but at this stage I'm not sure is a compatible part or if I got just a faulty item. Any feedback?

I have just installed the latest Yahoo Messenger (v.10) on a new Windows 7 (x64) platform, and I can't get my webcam to work. All I get when I try --> Messenger --> My webcam is a black screen. In other words, my webcam does not broadcast. My webcam seems to be correctly connected and installed on my PC with the latest drivers ("The device is working" ). And I can use my webcam with other applications, like Skype, on Windows 7, with no problems. I use a desktop PC with a USB webcam.

By the way, I can see the video image from the webcams of my YM contacts when I am in a video conversation with them. So, no problem the other way.

I have also tried to un-install/re-install both the webcam (Windows 7 re-installs it automatically) and YM. I have also tried the previous versions of YM (v.9 and v.8) I have also gone through all the camera settings in YM. But still no chance.

I have already searched the Net, and I found several other YM users reporting the same problem when they try to use their webcam with YM on Windows 7, but I could not find any solution.

Is there a well known problem related to the use of a webcam with YM on Windows 7 ?

Could someone help me ?

Answer:[Help requested] Webcam not working on Yahoo Messenger with Windows 7

Since it is working in other applications, it can only be the settings or a feature of YM that is not yet working (in win 7 at least). Are you able to try with another webcam?

Hi,
im currently in university accomodation with free broadband internet use, this is good but it is restricted in the fact that not all ports are useable, torrents limewire etc are all blocked which is fine for me.

However i like to use msn and more specifically video chat. This worked fine in the first couple of weeks that i was here, however i tried again more recently and it seems it doesnt work for me. It does for other people in my accomodation block. When i try to enable my webcam it displays the image from it and says connecting, then live messanger just says it cannot connect, try again later.

I have reinstalled live messanger, tried using windows messanger (forgot how awful that was) and i have gone into networking services and enabled UPnP. I have tried with a number of contacts with no avail. I have also tried a new webcam which was no help, both webcams work on the pc, recording videos and taking pictures, but not on msn or live messanger.

Ive tried searchin google to no avail, im using xp so the thread on here about vista doesnt help me.

My copy of xp is fully updated, windows firewall is enabled and im using a NOD32 protection suite with IMON internet monitor included.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give as much detail as possible,
Does anyone have any ideas whats up?

Thanks,
Khris

The webcam worked perfectly with the installed version of Windows 8 that came with my machine. These problems appeared after installing Windows 8.1. When I start Windows 8.1's Camera app, the LED positioned to the right of the webcam flickers on and off. Sometimes when the LED is on, you can see webcam footage for a brief instant. It's very inconsistent though. I have Linux Mint 16 installed alongside Windows 8.1 as a dual boot option, and strangely enough the webcam also does not work in Linux Mint. Trying other camera apps, such as Google+ Hangouts, does not work. I downgraded to Windows 8, and the camera still does not work - even with Windows 8's version of the camera driver. What should I do?

Answer:Y410p webcam no longer working after Windows 8.1 upgrade

After a lot of wasted hours, it seems like my webcam does work in Linux Mint on some applications. So the hardware isn't at fault. I'm hesitant to reinstall Windows 8 and all the drivers from Lenovo's website, because I tried it and it didn't work. No amount of driver reinstallation or Windows Updates is doing the trick. Regretfully, I also deleted the recovery partition that came with the laptop. *sigh* Guess there's nothing I can do.

I upgraded my wife's Laptop to windows 10 from windows 7 last year and it seemed to work fine. She just went out of town and tried to use Skype to video call me but the webcam isn't working. The Audio works fine and Skype worked fine on windows 7. I had her push FN+ESC and it told her that there is no Webcam installed. I connected to her laptop via Teamviewer and tried to check the Device Manager Imaging Devices, but there was no entry for Imaging Devices. I downloaded the Camera Driver(Bison, Chicony) for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Lenovo G460, G560 Lenovo G560 driver for windows 8 (no driver available for win10) and tried to install it but no luck. I'm wondering if there is a Microsoft Generic Webcam driver that might work, but this is her work machine so I don't want to remotely install drivers willy nilly. Thanks

Hello, I recently upgraded to windows 8 and I have everything working so far except for the webcam. I've installed the drivers so that when I go into device manager under Imaging devices it lists Integrated Camera and Camera Plus and device manager says both of these are updated and working the fine. However, when I use the Camera app which I get to from Windows 8 metro all I see is a cartoon of a camera crossed out. The yellow webcam light does turn on, but it's not working. The same thing happens when I try to do a video recording in Microsoft OneNote 2007, which I used to be able to do.  I've tried to uninstall the webcam drivers and reinstall it, but it still isn't working. I've tried doing hardware scans and update scans in the Lenovo Solutions Center but it says everything is fine. Any suggestions would be really helpful. If I can't get everything to work in Windows 8 I'm switching back to Windows 7, which I made a backup disc of. Thanks,-Noora

Answer:X230 tablet Windows 8 upgrade, webcam not working

I think I finally fixed it actually, sorry about that. I just kept installing drivers from the Lenovo website and it's working now. The camera program that you access through Metro says the camera is only 0.9 pixels though, and I thought the camera was more than that.  Is there a way to tell if I've installed all the necessary drivers? I have done multiple software scans with Lenovo Solution Center but even when the camera wasn't working it said I had no updates, so that's why I kept installing drivers from the website.  Also, does anyone know the driver to make the wacom pen right click button work? I really miss that One thing I think is better with Windows 8 actually is the screen orientation change button. It's way faster than in Windows 7! I also like that it doesn't do it automatically, because I don't always want it automatic.

Answer:Windows 10 upgrade Thinkpad T410 Webcam Not Working After

HiSo here is how I solved the integrated camera being not recognized/detected by Windows 10.- I went Into Device Manager, uninstalled the unrecognized USB device.- Shut down the laptop. Removed the battery.- Pry out the plastic frame surrounding the screen to uncover the camera.- Remove the two screws retaining the camera and unplug it.- put back the battery and wait for Windows to load and log in as usual.- wait for all drivers and programs to load normally.- plug the camera back in.- you'll normally hear Windows detecting a new device and will automatically install it. Check your device manager for an imaging device. You should see an imaging device in the list.- to test if it's working properly, you can use Skype and see if it detects the camera in the video settings.

Hello,I upgraded my w520 from Win 7 to Win 8 last year with zero problems. Now I upgraded my W520 Win 8 to Win 8.1 via the store download. Except the webcam everything works fine. In e.g. the Skype desktop application, Google Hangouts or the camera app, the built in webcam no longer works. The green light turns on, but I just get the crossed out camra icon in e.g. the Skype video options. No video. I see there are no drivers yet for Win 8.1 on the Lenovo support site for the w520 camera. In device manager it still shows the 2011 camera driver 1.1.0.1147 and says "This device is working properly." But it does not work properly.Did anyone get the camera to work or is it just a matter of waiting for a driver to be released eventually?I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, camera is enabled in the Bios and permissions are set to give Skype and the camera app access to the camera. I also tried the W530 drives as was suggested elsewhere. Thank you!

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I'm really sorry to hear that when you try to use webcam in your Lenovo ThinkPad W520, you are getting a crossed camera image.

Check if your camera is in normal or private mode. This could be happening because you might have set your camera in private mode.
Go into Lenovo Settings App on Metro view, and select camera.
There will be the options of Private and Normal.
Select Normal.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.
