Intermitent 2101 detection Issues with new T530 and mSATA

Question: Intermitent 2101 detection Issues with new T530 and mSATA

Hello! I just recieved a new T530 I7 and also a Crucial M4 mSata SSD (CT256M4SSD3). The issue I have is sometimes the system will give a 2101 detection error at Post and the only way around it is to power off again, remove the battery/AC and try again. Ive seen other posts regarding this error but no clear resoution.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Intermitent 2101 detection Issues with new T530 and mSATA

Called Crucial support. They had me change the Intel 7 AHCI controller driver from Intel to the Standard Microsoft driver. They suspect that the Intel driver is causing the drive to not shutdown properly. I'll see how it performs with the generic driver for awhile.

Hi, I just received my T430 about 4 days ago and it's working perfectly until I was trying to install important windows updates. As I was rebooting my laptop after the installation (which fails everytime I don't know why), my computer gave me a loud beep and a error code of 2101 detection error. So I searched this forum and found this solution http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074404 from another post that had the same problem as mine.As i was following the steps,( i did cmd, uninstalled express cache, and did disk managment) but as i went on my disk management i could not find my mSATA. I have a 16 gb mSATA and it was working perfectly fine before. I've noticed on my reboot that it took longer to load and the error message would then come up.So my problem is that I cannot view my mSATA disk on my disk managementThankyou!

Answer:2101 Detection Error: Cannot view my mSATA

The Error 2101: Detection error on HDDx miniSata is a BIOS error. This has nothing to do with the operating system you have installed or any drivers. During the POST, the system does not see the miniSata drive. I (like some others) received my new T530 recently, setup it all up and then a few hours later received this error. The solution is simple. You must open up your ThinkPad. Remove the two keyboard screws and remove the keyboard and RE-SEAT the miniSata drive. There is 1 screw holding the board down. Remove it, re-insert it in. Screw everything back up and voila, no more issue. Go to the Lenovo / ThinkPad Guides and Manuals page for your device (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?) and download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad. There are clear instructions (for those less inclined) on how to remove the keyboard. You do NOT need to disconnect the ribbon cable. Simple / carefully slide the keyboard forward and the miniSata drive will be visible and accessible. You can also use the ExpressCache program to get stats on the miniSata drive and see how it is working. Open a Command Prompt (in Administrator Mode) and issue the command: eccmd -info   -   Display ExpressCache activity informatio eccmd -?   -  Will show you all options eccmd -format   - Will reformat and clear the cache drive. Hopefully, this will help out those out there with this issue. I've read a lot about the 2101 Detection Error of mSATA issue on x220 with mSATA other than intel 310 installed. Last year I purchased a W520 and an Intel 310 mSATA. They worked fine together untill yesterday. I have windows 7 enterprice 64bit installed on the mSATA and linux installed on an SSD. I have a 500GB HDD installed in the ultrabay, as a shared data volume shared by Windows and Linux. Everytime I try to boot windows, it fails. And during the next reboot, the "2101 Detection Error" shows up. To try to solve this problem I have the mSATA reseated and the 2101 error disappears, until I try to boot windows again. Everything works fine IF I ONLY BOOT LINUX. 2101 Detection Error shows up everytime I TRY TO BOOT WINDOWS UP. I've updated the UEFI BIOS to the latest version which is 1.36 but the problem is still there. I've used the lenovo diagnosis tool (bootable usb) to run a set of quick tests and no error detected (except for drive self test either not supported or not passed). Please find the configuration of my laptop below:======================================W520-4270CTOCPU:                                 I7 2720 QMMEMORY:                        16GB (4GB SAMSUNG X 4)VIDEO:                   ... I get the following message when I turn on the laptop: 2101: Detection error on SSD (M.2) The laptop (T560) is new and was only received on the 13 May 2016.  When it occurs I run thediagnostics and can usually get the machine to boot up. However, the error then reoccurs at a later stage, usually if the machine has been idle for a while.  I have lodged a service call with Lenovo but thought I would share my experience here and see if anyone else has the same issue?

Answer:T-430 2101 Detection Every Time I Restart

Hi, mboon

I tried to do some research on your error, but Microsoft has little listed for a code 2101 error. Could you possibly reboot your machine at some point and copy down the error message in its entirety? With more information, we might be able to figure out a fix.

Best,
Adam

I tried very hard to find an official answer. I had my x220 bios updated to 1.40 version and installed the mSata 500GB EVO SSD drive to the laptop. It has never been detected successfully.  It was a big hard to insert the mSata drive to the slot and finally it was in the write position I'm pretty sure and the screw is aligned... Any idea?

Hello,

I have only tried a couple mSATA SSDs in my ThinkPad X220, but each one was detected immediately without any error.

Do you know if the 500GB Samsung 850 EVO mSATA SSD worked before you used it?  Perhaps you could try it in another machine, or with an mSATA to 2.5" adapter, just to verify that it works correctly?  Although it is pretty rare to occur, you could have gotten one that is just not working.

(i have updated the title. sounds more like it. ^_^) Greetings ! I am a proud (well, yes ...) owner of the E530 A3G-Model sporting a 16GB SSD.Yes, the one with the pulsy, noisy fan. ^_^  The Story: Last week i thought i'd need a change and try something new. As i'm not really a noob oncomputers, i thought i'd set up Win7 x64 SP1 on the SSD. That's ... not that easy, considering the size, so i've spent the weekend removing irrelevant components ...... like Natural Language, Speech Support, Language Packs ...... from the Win7 x64 SP1 Installation Disks. It took me two days to get it to work, with several testing sessions using VirtualBox,but then i got it right. I haven't removed any drivers, services or anything actually essentialwhich could break the system. (I promise!) So ... after a long session in VirtualBox and installing this system on a small partition on my HDDto verify it REALLY works, i went going on to install it on the SSD. Please note that RapidBoot is turned off in the BIOS and i have removed ExpressCache, which i had previously installed manually, but wasn't actually caching anything anymore, for reasons i don't understand. Maybe i have turned it off weeks ago, i don't know. So, i have set up a 3GB FAT32 partition at the beginning of the SSD for the pagefile. It's a habit. It's a good idea to do this on HDDs, so i kept doing it. Longevity of the SSD was no issue for me,as if it breaks ... well, then it breaks ... but the... Read more

So I've read through the history of the msata and the x220 (4286-CTO) and how the BIOS revisions were required during the middle of last year in order to get the Intel 310 and some others to work. Thinking that my little x220 with Bios revision 1.26 (i7, 8gb, 4286-CTO) would be fine, I purchased a Kingston SSDNow mS100 64GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive SMS100S2/64G and installed it yesterday. The instal went without a hitch, but when I restarted the machine, I received a 2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata) error.   I've seen that the 2101 error has been mentioned in relation to a couple of Sandisk msata drives on the forum, but those discussions didn't seem to go anywhere. I just got off my second call with Lenovo support (30 minutes today and 25 minutes last night), only to have them tell me that msata is not supported by my 4286-CTO.  That sounds incorrect, as others with the 4286-CTO seem to have luck with Intel and Renice. What am I doing wrong?  Is this something that another BIOS revision could cure?  At least on one of the sandisk discussions, the OP said that he/she had tested the drive in another computer without a problem, so I don't think it's a problem with the actual drives.   Somebody else mentioned that some drives are not compliant with the JEDEC standard, but that doesn't sound like an explanation to me either.  Thoughts?  Help! Best, sad x220

Answer:2101 Error: X220 with Kingston 64GB msata

I have the same issue with x220.  The mSATA I have is the Sandisk SDSA4DH-064G.  I can also add that the function of the mSATA is the same regardless of whether the mSATA is used in the mSATA slot or on an adapter card in the SATA hard drive bay (Error is 2100 rather than 2101, but the text is the same).  For this reason, I believe the Lenovo BIOS is unable to configure the mSATA drive appropriately.  I imagine that Lenovo could quickly resolve this with a new BIOS. I have tested this drive on a desktop consisting of a Asus P9X79 Deluxe + Intel 3960x running Windows 7, 64-bit.  Device is recognized by BIOS and WIndows Disk Manager.

I ordered the mSata mini 128GB card to go into the half size slot under thge keyboard.  However when I boot I get:  "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (Mini SATA)".  I thought that a half size drive would work, as it does it my Lenovo W520.  However it appears the BIOS does not recognize it.  It does however recognize it in my W520. Has anyone else successfully added a second drive internally to the X1 Carbon Touch? http://www.mfactors.com/msata-mini-half-size-sataiii-ssd-128gb-64gb/

Hello and welcome,

No personal experience here, but I do see this note on the page you linked:

Note: Only works with systems with mSATA standard connector. NOT compatible with Mini PCIe slot for WWAN/wireless cards

The way I read the Hardware Maintenance Manual  that slot is WWAN only, not a WWAN/mSATA combo slot.  Could be wrong.

I got this error out of the blue the other day on startup, and now I get it every time I restart.  I have tried a number of solutions that I found in these forums (which I'll outline below) but it seems like my system just can't find the drive anymore.  Here's what I've done: 1. ran the ExpressCache program via Command Prompt (eccmd.exe -info) and got this error:  "**ERROR** ECCmd Request device is not available"2. unistalled the ExpressCache software, shut down, pulled the battery opened up the memory module slot cover, removed the mSATA drive and then re mounted it.3.  reinstalled ExpressCache4.  I'm trying to reformat the drive, but I am receiving similar errors     a.  When I try to format the drive (eccmd.exe -format) I get the following error:  HFS Volume is not mounted  **ERROR**  ECCmd Requested device is not available     b.  When I try to create a partition (eccmd.exe -partition) I get the following error:  0x10df (4319).  I looked this up and maybe there are system files missing? I have also tried this but it then says "There is NO mSATA detected, please check mSATA attached" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073737 If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Answer:2101 detection on HDD2 (mini sata) error on my T430

Hello and welcome,

None of the symptoms you describe sound to me like software issues. There is something wrong with the mSATA SSD, or the controller that accesses it - or it needs to be re-inserted in its socket.

Is this machine under warranty?  I'd suggest calling support and running this by them.  They may suggest re-seating the device in its socket, or may offer replacement or some other option.  I don't speak for Lenovo, just offering my personal suggestion.

Model: T450sEquiped as:Intel i54+4GB RAM256GB SSD (M.2) Configured as boot disk running Win 7 x64500GB HDD as additional storage Issue:Seemingly at random, approx once every one to two weeks while PC is on and at the desktop but not actively being used (meaning no user is sitting in front of it performing tasks) it will error and crash.  The error is a black screen with the following error: 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2) Press Esc to continue. According to the user Esc does nothing and the only escape is to long press the physical power button until a power down occurs.  On reboot the system comes up without issue.  No user has actually seen the crash take place.   MY QUESTION(S):1st.  Is this most likely an issue with the T450s not being able to reliably boot from the m.2 slot or is this more likely an issue with the SSD installed in the m.2 slot?2nd.  Is this something altogether different?  Any (knowledgeable) advice or info appreciated.

Answer:T450s Thinkpad - ERROR 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but my experience has been that the Gen4 and later CPUs (like yours) support a very low power state that is incompatible with some devices. (that would make it a problem with the card) Make sure you have the latest BIOS and power manager software installed. Look in the device manager and find the M.2 SSD. There should be a power management tab. Turn off the option to allow the system shut the device off to save energy.

Answer:mSATA for T530

'afternoon.

an mSATA SSD will surely work in your T530. the largest i've seen to-date is 256gb from several manufacturers. and... you can definitely use it as the os/swap/apps drive leaving the platter drive for data and personal files. this is exactly how my X220 is deployed and i'm quite please with the set up.

one caveat for you, though. while the X220, X220T, T420, T520 and W520 list the mPCIe WWAN as a CRU (customer replaceable unit), the x30 series lists it as a FRU (field replaceable unit), meaning, generally, that an authorized tech must do it. so, technically, with your machine, if something "bad" were to happen while you had it opened up to install the mSATA SSD, your warranty might be voided.

just something to keep in mind.

cheers.

Question: T530 and msata

After owning a T530 for exactly 5 years, we've decided to finally put a msata SSD into it. Should have done it sooner, since the prices of msata drives are truly ridiculous nowadays. But as the years went by we've figured we should wait because prices were going to drop. Well, now we know that was a mistake, heh. Anyway, AFAIK if you don't have a WWAN card (which we don't) we can install a msata SSD into the PCI express slot. We were wondering, which type of msata SSD should we buy? Is it an M.2 drive or just plain msata? Is there a difference? We were aiming for a SAMSUNG 850 EVO mSATA 250GB MZ-M5E250BW (http://tinyurl.com/yans5exn) or (if we decide to cheap out) MyDigitalSSD 120GB (128GB) Bullet Proof 4 Eco (BP4e V2) MDMS-BP4e-128(http://tinyurl.com/ycbbt7q7). Would these be ok? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:T530 and msata

The slot in the T530 supports mSATA not m.2.  They are not the same.

I'd expect any mSATA SSD to work, but there can always be individual compatibility issues.

Hopefully someone else here has experience with the models you link and can give you a direct answer.

I've just bought ADATA 256GB mSATA drive, planning to install it in my upcoming T530 and installing Win7 on it. I've just read the following: Windows 7 only supports TRIM for ordinary (AHCI) drives and does not support this command for PCI-Express SSDs that are different type of device, even if the device itself would accept the command. Does this mean that my mSATA drive will never be TRIMed automatically?

Answer:T530, mSATA and TRIM

mSATA is mini PCI-E physically, but it's configured as SATA in the Printed Circuit board. Therefore, TRIM should work on it as long as you're running Windows 7 or 8. Here's a picture where TRIM is working fine on a mSATA SSD

Hi guys, I'm buying the laptop in the subject but I want to do some tweaks with it.I'd like to add a Crucial M4 256GB SSD and keep the HD putting it into the DVD slot (as far I understood it's called ultrabay).Today I realized that for doing that I have to buy something called HD caddy which is pretty expensive (here in Italy) so I was thinking about taking an mSATA SSD (price is almost the same as the normal SSD) so I don't have to buy the caddy and save some money. You can switch out the HDD drive with a SSD, Replacing the optical drive with the Ultrabay adaptor will allow you to put the HDD in that space but you're obviously losing the use of the optical drive (Note that this will also slightly increase battery consumption). If you decide instead to purchase an mSATA SSD, you will have to remove the WAN card but you will retain the use of your optical drive.

I hope that clarifies things a little

I have 9 months old T530 2359CTO with I7 3740QM, 12G (for now) RAM and 1T HD with 8G SSD cache. What would be the best mSATA drive as a boot drive for this computer? Some people recommend Plextor M5M, but now we have M6MI also found Samsung mSATA drives look good.Sizewise I think at least 256G, maybe even 512 if price is right. On page 111 of T530 Lenovo manual is written:Note: If your computer is equipped with both a hard disk drive and an mSATA solid-state drive, you are notrecommended to use the mSATA solid-state drive as a bootable device. The mSATA solid-state drive isdesigned and developed for ?cache? function purpose only. If you use the mSATA solid-state drive as abootable device, its reliability is not guaranteed. I presume Lenovo talks about their 16G and 24G factory installed drives. Please advice.

Answer:Best 256G or bigger mSATA for T530

Hello.

The reason for this advise is that the mSATA drives can only operate at SATA-II speeds whereas the main HD and Ultrabay connectors are SATA-III, thus you will get better performance by using a conventonal SSD as your OS drive.

That being said, the popular Crucial M500 mSATA has gotten great reviews for both performance as well as price, but so have other similar offerings from the major manufacurers. Once you start going through reviews and benchmarks, you will eventually find the one that suits you and your wallet best.

Cheers!

While there are several discussions on the topic, the information seem a bit outdated. I am in need of fresh 2016 details.  I have a 3rd generation T530 and wondering if I can upgrade to a 500gb SSD in the mSATA form factor. I've come across mixed responses and the Lenovo manual is no help on the topic. The SSD will be used to as the boot drive and for all apps which leads to my next question. Is there an easy way to install OS and apps onto SSD without having to resintall everything? For example, can I create an image with acronis software and place the files onto the SSD?  Any help on this topic will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I upgraded my T530 from Windows 8.1 to 10 a couple months ago and it runs fine, but I'm running out of space in the 7,200 rpm 500GB drive so I puchased a 256GB Crucial mx200 mSata intending to perform a clean install and use it as my boot drive, then use the 500GB as the data drive.  I removed the 500GB spinner and have been trying to perform a clean install on the 256GB mSata for almost 2 weeks now.  I have gone through every permuation of uefi/bios settings and cannot get it to load the OS from the msata drive.  I have found a few posts from people describing the exact same problem on various model (x, t, w, y) Lenovo laptops that were shipped with an open wwan/msata slot who came to the consensus that booting was somehow disabled in their hardware, gave up and simply used it for caching.  However, I find too many posts with people successfully running mSata boot in Windows 8 & 10 that I refuse to give up. I have the latest firmware on the Crucial drive, latest bios on the T530, have tried loading from USB thumb drive & DVD, and I'm pretty sure that I have put the system into every possible BIOS setting configuration, AHCI, no secure boot, uefi priority, forced, legacy priority, allowed, etc.  I have access to a W530 and a W520 and the drive fails to boot in both of them also. I tried to force all 3 systems into as much non-uefi mode as possible in an attempt to install in MBR mode, but it always comes back with an error stating th... According to the User manual, an mSata drive should not be used as an OS drive. "If your computer is equipped with both a hard disk drive and an mSATA solid state drive, you arenot recommended to use the mSATA solid state drive as a bootable device. The mSATA solid state drive isdesigned and developed for ?cache? function purpose only. If you use the mSATA solid state drive as abootable device, its reliability is not guaranteed." Page 109 User manual: http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/user_guides/t530_w530_ug_en.pdf Can anyone comment? And also, is it a SATAII or a SATAIII port that is available for use in the T530? Thanks in advance!

Answer:T530, mSata not safe for use as OS drive?

MLC NAND is fairly reliable but when the system starts to go the mSATA or SSD fails quickly with little or no time to recover. Magneto optically if far more reliable media but much slower. NAND has limits and stresses causing NAND failure. Hence data may be lost if not managed properly by the onboard controller of which the Sandforce controller widely used is the most troublesome. Here is merely one of many documents -http://www.anandtech.com/tag/sandforce I highly recommend Googling reviews on SSD's as there are many including Tomshare tests You want facts not personal opinions. Then you be the judge once informed! If you do use mSATA because of the major speed boost you should have current images of the drive since you'll not be able to do much once you realize its dying or dead. Edit:I personally would not by an SSD device with a SandForce controller or TLC NAND. The Samsung 840 uses TLC NAND. Marvell controller do stand out however.

Answer:SATA 6Gb/s support with mSATA slot in the T530?

It depends on what you mean by "support." The mSATA slot runs only at SATA2 (3Gb/s) speeds. However you can install a SATA3 (6Gb/s) SSD but it will run only at SATA2 speeds.

I bought a 120G Crucial M500 mSATA ssd a while back and have been seeing fairly consistent boot errors saying it can't detect the ssd. This is my boot/root drive, and the laptop runs fine for days/weeks at a time without problem. Which is odd, because I can boot off that ssd just fine after pressing escape to ignore the error. Sometimes from a cold boot it doesn't happen, but pretty much 100% of reboots result in that error message. Is there a way to fix this? It's rather annoying to have to babysit the laptop on boot.

Hello and welcome,

Have you checked with Crucial?  I had similar-sounding issues with an M4.  Sometimes the SSD is slow to come on-line due to internal house-keeping work.

Perhaps there's a firmware update or work-around.

Hi Michael222,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing an issue with HDD detection on your ThinkPad T530.

Have you checked updating system BIOS?
Is the system is having both HDD and SSD?
Check with reseating the drives.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hi all,
Have just completed my new build 2 weeks ago and all was well.
I then lost the sound completeley, went to the gigabyte website, dowloaded and installed the latest realtek drivers for W7 64bit, and sound back again.

Yesterday the sound went again, so went back to the site and downloaded, unistalled, rebooted, installed, rebooted, blah blah and still no sound.

I am using the onboard sound via a single jack on the rear of the pc to 2 speakers, not any fancy HDMI or spdif. All the settings are correct and according to the sound level monitor in W7, sound is playing!!

The speakers work fine on my other PC (Running Open Suse)

Specs:

I7 chip
Gigabyte UD5 board
6gb DDR3 Gskill memory
2 x 1tb WD cavier blacks in raid 0
W7 64bit

Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer:Intermitent Sound Issues

Hi.  I have a T430s (original owner). At boot-up, I receive a "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata)", BUT I don't use a Mini SATA!! Windows 10; All drivers current via Lenovo system update (incl. bios 2.69).I have a Crucial SSD drive; I have verified Crucial SSD has latest firmware.I do not have (and have not had) a Mini SATA card installed - this is why the error is so weird to me.I DID recently change the Wifi Switch and cable (which is when the error started showing)The wires that would feed the Mini SSD are still covered with tape from the factory (I forget the colors)I have removed the battery, internal battery and power (and rebooted).  I have reseated the SSD and the DVD drive (and rebooted).I do not have Express software installed; the software that would control the Mini SATA drive (I can't see any "express" software in Add / Remove programs) Can you help me with this annoying mystery?

I do lose connection to the internet however. More often then not when i type a web address i want to browse to it tends to time out and I have to refresh the page to actually access it. Anyone seeing this?

right click your connection, click view available wireless connections, double click the one you are connected to, disconnect from it, then reconnect to it. see if it works any better. if i turn my laptop off, then turn it back on it will automatically connect but it doesn't connect very well.  i have an intel card in mine and i went on intel's site and let the site scan my computer and it gave me a better driver for the wireless. now mine works a lot better.  you'll have to find out which card is in yours.

Hello,Just some time ago, I bought a T530 (i7 3520m, 8gbs of ram (currently 4 because sold one of the dimms to a friend), an NVS 5400m, and a 500gb HDD.) Well when I learned my processor had VT-d support, I got rather excited. My plan was to just have a VM that Windows would hide in for when I wanted it, but what actually happened was that my Operating System just refuses to work. Windows 10 seems fine unless you try and close the screen which causes a full crash and requires a forced shutdown. Arch Linux doesn't boot into userspace and goes into a SystemD emergency panel. Debian causes nVidia drivers to fail and just causes a lot of other disarray. This only happens when VT-d is enabled. Disabled works perfectly fine as if there was never an issue in the first place.

This seems to be an issue that looks like most people are dealing with.  I've done everything above the sun to try and fix the problem.  I have the latest Intel eXtensible 3.0 Host Controller (1.0.5.235), used the BIOS update utility and still only one of the USB 3.0 ports works (the top one).  If I insert the drive into the bottom one, doesn't recognize it. This seems to be a known issue not just with Lenovo laptops, but Dell as well.  Is there a permanent solution to fix this because it's making me want to go back to the T520's until this is fixed.

thanks for posting.

Sorry to hear about the issues you're facing I hope I can be of assistance here. Just to get a clearer understanding of the issue your facing, do you mean that the 2nd USB port on the bottom of the machine is not reconizing any device or you get a specific error when inputing a device in the port?

Sorry if I sound unsure, but just trying to get a clearer understanding of the issue.

Hope to hear back.

Answer:Squeaking issues on my 2 day old T530

Get used to it. We own a T530 and L430. T530 sqeaking: thin plastic part directly below touchpad, palmrest area right of the touchpad, thin plastic part on the side of the left speaker. L430 squeaking: area around mini DPort, left corner of the palmrest area, area right of the touchpad (on the edges), thin plastic part directly below touchpad, right corner of the palmrest area, large cover on the bottom of the laptop. Although, our L430 was sent to EZServ and it had it's WiFi card replaced. When we got the laptop back, after a few days we've noticed that the right upper part of the body was hanging in the air, meaning it did not snap into place correctly with the lower part of the laptop's body. So we gently pushed it down and then it snapped back into it's place. And it seems that opening and putting our L430 back together is the main culprit for it's squeaking problems. But as days go by, the other (more expensive) Thinkpad is also getting squeakier and squeakier. Also, on that same T530 sometimes K key on our backlit keyboard starts to make a double-click when pressed, sort of a squeak. As if the upper part of the key is not seated right on the lower part (mechanism). It appears and disappears out of nowhere. Yeah. Lenovo's quality is rapidly declining. Such a shame. Oh, let's not forget the loose battery and poorly constructed area around volume up/down buttons and area around card reader. If these problems didn't exist, Thinkpads would be really, and I do mean reall... Read more

Question: T530 Boot Issues

I did a search and couldn't find anything that exactly matches my symptoms.  Here is the deal: T530 16gb Ram Windows 8 Pro.  I was upgrading to Windows 10 and the machine wouldn't boot.  I restarded the machine (after 12 hours of a black screen and no harddrive activity) Now when I boot I get LENOVO screen for a split second then one short beep.  I can not boot via USB and I do not have recovery CD's.  (it is 3am will try and make recovery CD's tomorrow when I have access to CD's and a burner).  Any thoughts?  Should I just replace the Harddrive but not sure that will fix it because it appears to me that it is the BIOS that is jacked.  Please any help would be appreciated.

Hi All! I have a T530 that is just about 1 year old. CAme with Windows 7. I did a Clean install of Windows 8 64 bit.  I have had to do 2 System Restores since mid-May of this year due to my VPNs suddenly not working. It seems to be related to the WAN MiniPorts. I was thinking initially this was a Windows Update cause and effect scenario, but after the first System restore I disabled automatic installation of Windows Updates and have no installed any manually.  The VPN within Windows 8 stops working, as well as any and all 3rd party VPN applications.   This is becoming a terrible hassle not to mention a time consuming pain.  Has there been any discoveries as to why this is happening?? Thanks.....

Hey Guys, I know there is a thread about shipping on the "T's" but I am wondering if there is some kind of production issues for the T530s? I ordered mine back on Aug. 24 and it has been in production ever since. The keep changing the estimated shipping date. I have tried calling a couple of times and each time I do they tell me a different story. The first time I could barely understand the guy, but I thought he said something about bad parts. The second time they said it shipped today you should get a notice in 24 hours. I checked later that day and they changed the estimated shipping date and no notice so far. I am almost to the point where I am going to cancel my order and go get someting else. Especially with all the little issues that I have been reading about with the T530s. I am really not sure this thing is going to be worth the wait.My question again is: Does anyone know if there are production issues with this model and should I be worried?

Answer:T530 production issues?

Cancelling the order might be a good gambit to get things moving.  This is odd.

I purchased a T530 a couple of months ago and noticed that the "6" key is not functioning properly. I have to press significantly harder on this key to make it work. It feels like a hard sponge when pressed. Also, the left mouse button of the track point seems to be very sensitive. Very often I will notice that it delivered an extra click after releasing it. On occasion, it would activate just by passing my fingers over the button. This is very annoying when browsing the web and typing messages. As you start typing, everything seems fine and then the letters being typed have continued in a different area of the screen, where the cursor was (as if a left mouse click was pressed). I will be contacting support for this these issues, however, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced these problems.

Answer:T530 Keyboard issues ...

Yes, I have the same problem with my new T530.  Frequently, when I click the left mouse button, I get one click when I press down, and another click when I release - effectively giving a double mouse click when I only intended one.  It's very annoying, and I look forward to someone finding a solution.

I see two noticeable thin gaps in the bottom of the display, between the screen and the bezel. Is this normal? The function keys are not flat. Most of the keys look too much protruded from the keyboard, and I can see the backlight from the bottom of the keys, unless I view the keyboard directly from the top. The HD+ screen produces blues with purple tints, and the reds and greens are faded too. And the last gripe, the internal speaker volume is a bit low even at max volume. I think this should be a driver issue. I would have to mod the driver and see if there is any improvement in the speaker volume.

Answer:T530 build quality issues

On my T530 there's only a small gap between the screen and the bezel.  The keys do seem to protrude when viewed from the side, but I think that's normal.  I guess it leaves more space in the chassis. The colors on my HD+ screen look normal.  Try checking the color management and make sure that Windows is using the right color profile for your screen, rather than some default. I noticed that the volume seemed to increase a lot once I installed the lenovo driver (that includes the Dolby control panel).  Check the Dolby control panel and see if any of those settings make a difference.

Hi, I have recently bought a t530. I connected it to my external monitor which is a Dell u2410 through a VGA cable. My previous laptop was a HP EliteBook and that worked smoothly with the same monitor and same cable. My new t530 instead is showing issues: the screen flickers intermittently (with random frequency, usually every few minutes), when this happens the screen displays diagonal grey lines crossing the whole screen.I noticed it happens more frequently after a few hours of usage. Moreover, every few minutes, the image goes back to the Lenovo screen (automatically - I don't do anything), is displayed for a couple of seconds on the Lenovo screen, then it goes back to the external monitor.I used the external monitor with other 2 laptops recently and never had any issues, so it's a Lenovo faulty. They are really annoying.Customer support told me to upgrade BIOs and check drivers. I upgraded the BIOS but didn't change anything. The drivers are already updated.Any suggestions?I think it's probably some settings or services. I would prefer not to have to spend half a day to bring it to repair and remain without it for days, being it my main and only laptop.I'm going to order a minidispaly to dvi cable, perhaps that will change, but all these issues are really annoying given how much this laptop costs. Thanks for your help

Answer:t530 issues with external monitor

If the VGA cable connector is good on the notebook side. I would say its the motherboard. When you plug in the cable try using the securing screw so that the cable is not marginally connect. Could be a poor connection.

I purchased a t530 in February and have not had one month go by when I have not had an issue. It has been sent back twice to be reimaged. I am not getting a second hard drive. It seems to work for about 4 weeks before a hard drive goes bad. The last one completely failed. Before the new hard drives were installed I had to re-image the machine at least four times. I had the wireless card and the optical drive replaced as well. Could there be a system issue that is causing the hard drives to fail. I can't believe I have been unlucky enough to get two bad drives. Hard drive is WD3200BEKT-08PVM. Lenovo has been absolutely no help through the process.

I have a Thinkpad T530 (2392-3JG) with a clean installation of Windows 8. I have been experiencing some gaming issues, when once in a while my ping rises to 500ms. I tested the issue by pinging my default gateway, and the lowest ping was 3ms, climbing to 500ms once every 15 seconds or so. I tried the same test on my win7 installation on another partition (but on the same machine), it does something similar, while ping jums "only" to about 300ms. On my sister's computer I get a constant 1ms ping to my default gateway, as it should. Therefore I think the problems must be somewhere in the drivers. I downloaded the Intel Wireless LAN (11agn) drivers from this site: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT072084

Is there a recall at all on these parts or affected machines that I don't know about? Could it be any other hardware that I should request the repair center look into?

Answer:T530 System Board Issues

Hi, danielbeihoff

After the replacement of the motherboard, were the drivers and BIOS updated? These problems could be hardware related, but I would make sure all software is up to date before calling service again. And the latest BIOS for your system is less than two weeks old, so it's worth looking into, I think. All driver updates can be found here.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi everybody, I've had my T530 for a week or so now and really don't have any complaints. However I have been experiencing one software issue. I run Windows 8 Pro, and use two finger scrolling with the Lenovo UltraNav drivers, and whenever the system is under load, scrolling stops working for the touchpad, and for the UltraNav.. Has anybody else experienced this on other Lenovo systems? Lenovo really needs to fix their touchpad drivers, I've never had this issue on other systems before...

Answer:T530 Lenovo Ultranav driver issues

Hi, Blueraydude

I would recommend trying to download and install the Synaptics driver. Synaptics is the company that makes UltraNav, so you shouldn't see any loss of functionality, and it may work better for you. It can be found here.

Hope it helps,Adam

Hi. I received last week my new T530  for which I am generally pleased EXCEPT a common reoccuring wifi connection issue. I have the Centrino (R) Ultimate N- 6300 AGN network card. At home I am connected to the Internet with a Telus smart hub. Whenever I am connected to to the Telus hub my connection is always dropping. Signal is strong on th erouter and I have 5 bars on my TP. My old Acer computer works fine as well as an Asus tablet. Now if I am connected to the internet thru my smart phone hot spot, I have no issues at all, as well as in a friend's home and at my mom's home.  What is going on here? Has anyone a solution for this? I would really hate to have to return this laptop as everything else is great. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hey all,
I wasn't sure where this should belong.

So I've created a custom windows image with MDT and I've basically turned off UAC and turned on persistdevices. The image is made in a HyperV VM and it has been syspreped into OOBE Generalized.

So we install a ton of desktops through KVMs and we for some reason the installs do not imediately pickup mouse and keyboards. I have a better chance of it happening when the desktop is selected on the KVM. Though oddly enough if i plug a standard mouse in it kicks up and picks up the KVM. I was thinking of trying to run devcon to rescan devices at first logon after the image is unpacked and setup by us at time of install. Any other suggestions?

So I recently upgraded from Windows XP Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate, it's wonderful so far, only thing is I backed up a lot of my personal documents and files onto a separate USB drive.

I run two USB drives, one for school and another for personal use, it's a 16 GB SanDisk driver with a password added onto it, it's running the Cruzer program.

Now when I pop it in, it USE to get the AutoPlay menu up, but after I reformatted my computer once to update my drivers it no longer pops up. I can't even run the autorun.exe, and I think the only way I can access my folders is by having access to the Cruzer program, however it doesn't work.

Any suggestions or advice would help, thanks in advance.

I'm getting the message when trying to install windows on my new ssd in msata slot.Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On Efi systems, windows can only be installed to GPT discs.I have a lenovo y500 with 1tb hdd sata already.Any ideas?

Answer:Having issues installing Windows on msata

Hi,

Sounds like the SSD has already been initialized to MBR.

First, you should probably remove the HDD while you're doing this so the installer doesn't get creative about where it puts the boot loader.

What version of Windows are you installing? What media: Microsoft clean install, Lenovo factory media, backup of HDD?

If you're using MS media when you get to the disk selection and partitioning try deleting all existing SSD partitions.  That may let the installer go ahead and re-initialize GPT.  If not, use SHIFT-F10 to bring up a command prompt window and run DISKPART.  list, select, clean should do it.  If your HDD is still installed make sure you don't select it!

From other media you'll probably need to first use an external tool to remove the MBR.  Boot a Linux live CD or flash drive and use gparted.  You can also use a minimal Linux that just runs gparted: http://gparted.org/livecd.php

First of all, I know, I shouldn't have done this myself without knowing for sure I could sort whatever issues I ran into. I apologise. I'm dumb. Right, I havea Y500 that came with a 1TB HDD, and I opted to follow the pack and fit a 240GB Crucial mSATA SSD into the open slot (bottom right when looking at the upturned, uncovered machine). That step was easy, got the drive from Amazon and already have the necessary little screw-driver for taking the back off. Easy step done. Then I backed up files and documents etc from the HDD to minimise the size of the C: partition. Even easier step. Next was the start of the trickier stuff. Using AOMEI, I cloned the suggested partitions from the HDD to the SSD (WINRE_DRV, SYSTEM_DRV, LRS_ESP, and Windows8_OS). This lead to a fun issue with drive lettering, but got round that through Regedt32.exe. Now I have the HDD C: as G: and then D:, E:, and F: are cloned to be H:, I: and J:. Then, I restarted the computer and entered BIOS to set the Crucial drive as the primary boot and saved it all. Now, as far as I can tell, the SSD is the operating boot drive, and the HDD is still visible in My Computer. The new partitions are also visible. Annoyingly the icon for my new C: is the same as the other partitions, and the now G: drive (old OS C has the Windows8 drive icon.  Now, the issue(s):1. As above with the drive icons, how can I set the icon for C: back to the Windows8 icon? 2. Every so often (maybe every 30 s... Read more

Thanks!

I got a computer from a friend and for the first time I'm completely stumped when it comes to the IDE detection phase during bootup. The first time I booted it up, it detected all 3 devices just fine. A DVD Burner, DVD Rom, and 60GB HD. When it came time to boot up the WinXP installation CD, I realized the eject button didn't work on the master ROM drive (the burner), so I turned it off and switched the two optical drives so that the working one was now the secondary master.
After turning it back on, it didn't detect ANY devices (not even the HD, on primary master). So I played with the cables some more, verified the jumpers.. And about the 6th time, I put it back the way it was right after I switched the drives. It detected fine.
About 10 mins into WinXP setup (during HD formatting) it said the drive was damaged and couldn't install. So I rebooted and the configuration that was working no more than 15 mins ago, suddenly couldn't detect any IDE drives all over again.
I grabbed an older hard drive from a computer that's still in use, just to make sure I had a working one, and plugged it in. It wouldn't detect. So I unplugged and re-plugged the IDE cables and all of a sudden it all worked again. I started the winxp setup again and partway into it, the same thing.. It acted like the drive was corrupt when I know very well it's because the IDE drives just dropped or something.
After getting frustruated with the cables some more I finally go... Read more

Answer:Weirdest IDE detection issues ever

G'day EmotionStar there is a good chance one of your optical devices has a problem, give it a try with only one optical drive fitted, I would try removing the burner first. By the way you may find that the burner needs to be on master position if you can get the thing going.

Hi I have a Y470 that I upgraded to Windows 10 and then i got an 0x000021 error and couldn't get it to load windows. I used this as an excuse to install and mSATA (64GB) and then loaded Windows 10 on that drive.  So my computer loads now but I cannot get program files to run from the old drive, I get prompted to install the program on the new drive. I'd like to be able to just run the programs off the old larger drive. Is there someway to this short of reformatting the old drive and reinstalling all the software onto it?

Hello all. I have a u410 and have two issues. 1.) The msata 24gb SSD is missing from Windows 8 and I can not get it back. My bios reads it but I can not get access to it. I've installed my Rapid Start Drivers and its indicating the the slot for SSD is empty. Tried diskpart and few other utilities with no success (BIOS indicated for Intel Rapid Start that SSD partition is invalid) Not sure if SSD is bad? 2.)This laptop will boot great sometimes and others 20-30 minutes for boot up?!? Used HDTune on hard drive and no issues there. No sure if maybe released to SSD.  FYI I did clean install of Windows 8 on this machine. The OS that was preinstalled had some issues. I deleted the partitions that where originally there hoping that clean install would get rid of ALL issues and just two remain currently. Thank you for any information, time, and help!!!

Greetings,

I have an HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j063cl that originally came with a 1 TB drive with Windows 8.

Goal was to move the system drive over to a 256 GB mSata and keep the original drive for data, VHDs, etc., and I have completed most of the work to get there.

Basically I wish I had just started with a clean install on the mSata, but that's not what transpired. I wanted to try to leverage the current installation with HP drivers in place. So I went down this path...

I used Macrium to clone the 1 TB drive to the 256 and that succeeded with a little finagling. But then I couldn't get UEFI to boot into the new drive. I finally performed a "refresh" from the MS Win8 install media (and unfortunately left the data drive in during the process).

To my surprise, everything worked and all was well. however, I later discovered that I couldn't back up to the 1 TB because the EFI partition on that disk is being used as the UEFI boot (as per MiniTool Partition Wizard data).

I've tried everything to get the (cloned) EFI partition on the mSata to be the boot, but all attempts have failed. I've tried to use EasyBCD to copy the boot environment (error), windows repair to repair the boot environment (can't repair), but nothing works. system is dead without the 1 TB drive installed and b/c it contains the active / boot EFI partition at runtime, I can't use any imaging tools to backup the mSata to the data drive.

Any suggestions? I'm trying to avoid a new install, as I... Read more

Just received my T530 yesterday, and honestly I've got to say it's a great machine, but I have noticed a couple of minor problems with it, along with a factory defect. 1. The battery is too loose.2. The keyboard has no caps lock indicator, yet the mute button has its own indicator (can't complain there) I bought the FHD screen, which is absolutely exceptional, except for the fact that it has about 4 DEAD pixels on the middle right.. Also I bought this unit brand new on eBay, but my warranty status says it has expired before it ever started. What's up with that?  One final thing, when I opened up the box, the power adaptor, was in its own little compartment, unprotected, though it works fine, but is a little scratched, not sure if that's Lenovo's fault, or if the seller accidentally removed packing material when including the recepit/invoice.   Looks like I'll have to send this unit in, I assume Lenovo's warranty covers factory defects with the screen?  Thanks.

Answer:Brand new T530 issues. (Defective FHD panel/dead pixels)

Hi Blueraydude,

That seems to be the best idea.

If you bought your system from an approved Lenovo reseller then Lenovo should honor and update your warranty from the day YOU purchased it, not when the seller purchased it.

If you don't send it back and call for support, you'll need to have your proof of purchase, machine type/model #, and serial # available.

Hi, After I upgraded my T530 to Windows 8.1 Pro, I found that a couple of things are not working quite properly. So before troubling myself with restoring to Windows 7, I would like to seek some advice and see if the problems can be resolved under Windows 8. The first problem is with the audio. Audio quality used to be great on Windows 7 with the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, but this time after installing the driver, audio becomes detecatably blurred (noises) across a number of otherwise high-quality audio. I will try re-installing the driver, but is there any solution to this problem? The other problem concerns two useful ThinkVantage utilities. System Update used to be quite helpful with driver installation, but this time few driver items are displayed uner "recommended" and after I installed all of them under recommended settings, I could still see problem-marked devices in device manager. Also, Power Management, which offers a number of convenient power options, really does not seem to work at all in Windows 8.1. I wonder if anyone has experienced similar issues and could kindly offer some advice. Otherwise I guess I will restore to my previous Windows 7. Thanks a lot!

I have had this LT for 2.5 years, just sent it back for new image to be installed on it.  Before it left for reimaging, I was having application issues and attributed that too OS decay, as I like to call it.  No HW issues, mulitple monitors in dock worked just fine. Now, every 5 to 15 minutes, I get a screen 'crash', where i get the HW disconnected , screens flash black, then HW connected, screens flash black and then appear again, but with my apps in totally different windows, mouse on LT screen, regardless of where it was, but my last upfront app window is always the primary app still , but could be on either of the screens to far left or far right, the middle screen, vga connection, is always left with just the desktop image exposed. My attempts to fix this included, installing Lenovo nvidia optimus driver, Intel HD graphics driver, scanning for new hardware and running MS updates and switching docks.  None of these fixed or changed the issue.  Could it be the dock connector on the LT?  I was wondering if the tech had a dock, and it caused an issue with my connector, like i said, this worked fine before it left for corporate IT to re-image.Thank you

Good evening, I thought it was a fluke yesterday evening that when I started my machine up it stalled at Windows is Preparing Your Desktop; nothing I normally see. Only option to clear a hard boot. Machine restarted ok however 99% of executable desktop files (i.e. mbam.exe, avgui.exe) were gone. Ran a virus scan, AVG (which is up to date) picked up nothing. Today a full Malware Byte scan picked up one infection, pop.optional.installcore. I do run full paid versions of AVG & Malware Bytes. Researching I find details on removal of pop.optional.installcore.A but not specifically same name without the .A. Malware Bytes asked for restart in order to complete removal. That was done, no change to desktop as far as missing icons. Was install core responsible for the disappearance of those executables and the stall during windows start? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. This is a personal machine I use for work purposes and I am very mindful of where not to be to avoid malware, viruses, etc. The lessons I have learned at your site help me to keep this a problem free machine. Thank you very much. Merry Christmas.

Hello and welcome to TSF.

The easiest would be to perform System Restore. Windows 7 has a very robust System Restore.

To minimize interference, it's best you perform the System Restore without Windows loaded.

These are the available system restore points:

I have been running into numerous issues with my Helix and USB 3.0 dock (0A33970). I own 2 docks, 1 at home and 1 at my office. During the day I frequently unplug from the dock at my desk and invert my Helix into presentation mode. I really love the capabilities of this machine, but I can't seem to figure out a few quirks! My sequence is this:1: Running Helix with USB 3.0 dock at my desk fine connected to LAN + Monitor + Keyboard etc.2: Put Helix to sleep, then unplug from my dock.3: Wake up helix and flip the screen to put in presentation mode.4: Flip back, then put back to sleep.5: Plug into USB dock6: Wake the machine back up with the power button Without fail, the Helix doesnt detect the dock, or gives a USB error. My only recourse is to unplug the USB dock, wait a few minutes, and then plug into a different USB port OR just reboot the machine to detect the dock. I run into similar issues between home and office as well. The only sequence that seems to work is to wake the machine up before step 5, and then plug into the port. This is a little cumbersome because I then have to fumble with the USB cables behind the open monitor (the USB port is right behind the monitor). I looked at a few other forums and disabled the power saving shutoff on the USB ports in Device Manager....all to no avail. Any thoughts here on what I can do? I am running all of the latest drivers from lenovo (dock version 10715), updated the firmware on the dock (per the len... Read more

Answer:Helix USB 3.0 Dock detection issues

I have similar issues.  If I undock from the keyboard dock and then redock, it will not recognize any of the USB devices on the USB dock.  I can power off the dock, unplug and replug it back in, etc.  The only way to get it to work is to reboot. I'm running Windows 8.1 with all updates and all updates from Lenovo.  I have had issues getting the computer to wake from sleep and recognize the USB devices on the dock, too. It would be nice to be able to utilize the portability of the Helix, but when you have to reboot each time, it doesn't help.  It almost appears as if some USB service stops or shuts down, but I can't figure out what to do about it.

Hello guys. Got an absolute doozy of an issue here.
So, while I started trying to fix Razer Surround on my desktop, it appears something went wrong (I have since removed Razer Surround from my desktop completely). As a result of this, no USB keyboards or mice are being properly detected, no matter which USB port I use (motherboard direct, or a USB port through the PCI USB hub). They appear, but they then receive an error code to the tune of this:
[WARN]Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)[/WARN]
Devices tested which have been affected by this are:
Razer DeathStalker Ultimate
Razer Naga Epic
SteelSeries ZBoard
Plugging the devices into the laptop, they work fine. But... I can't expect to use the laptop for gaming and streaming games simultaneously with only an Intel HD-3000 integrated graphics for a GPU... Any ideas? I've tried removing all the USB entries as well as entries of the Razer keyboard (Synaptics pointing device and "Razer DeathStalker Ultimate") and rebooting, to no avail, as well as a cold reboot with a BIOS reset, which also failed. My desktop is running Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit.

Answer:USB Keyboards and Mice - detection issues

Ok, so I did some searching on this myself, and had a look around. I was recommended to do a Refresh of Windows 8, which has fixed my problem. Word of warning though, the "Create A Recovery Drive" tool doesn't create a recovery drive that you can use. You'll need to use a tool like ISO2USB to create a bootable drive of the Windows 8/8.1 Installation Media to use the Refresh tool.

PC SPECS:Win XP ProP4 2.4 Ghz Intel Celeron512 Ram80 GB Maxtor (w/ partition = 2x40GB)ASUS P4P8S00S mobo (sp? very close) PROBLEM: I got this 160 GB Maxtor drive (free) from a place that was upgrading and had no use for it. IT HAS worked before (ive used it) and they said it works.First: Last night, I attempted to install the hard drive. I was having detection problems an it got late, I gave up. I got up an tried it again, This time for some random reason, it was detected in Disk Management... So I set up my drive format etc. I put 46 gigs of music onto and it works GREAT. My internet goes off for some odd reason, So I reboot my computer, once it turns back on i get an error saying something about my primary IDE not detecting or something (might not be accurate error) So I gave it a shot and POWERED OFF and POWERED ON, it worked... So it boots XP fine, I get into my desktop, open up winamp to play some music, and nothing happens when I hit play... I check the drive and its once again not detected, which lead me here.Things I Have tried:Turned off computer, Checked IDE Cables see if plugged in correctly. its fine, new cables good to go.Checked BIOS for secondary IDE Slave, [NONE].Tried to AUTO DETECT in BIOS, nothing happens.Tried to DETECT with Disk Management, No appearance.I dont know what else to do but bring it to a help forum and see what ideas can be given. So I ask now for your help in solving this idiotic problem I am facing...P.S. Under No Circumstances will I format... Read more

Answer:160GB Maxtor Detection Issues

OK, just to be clear about this: You mentioned format in the middle. Did you say that you formatted it before, or that you checked the format? Just so we know. If I got a new drive the first thing I'd do is format it. Have you? I know you say you won't, but it may be the solution (though if you prefer, we'll try other things). And do you have a CD writer?

I just did a re-install of Win 10 on a new SSD. Afterwards, I noticed that certain things like renaming and deleting files caused hangs, i.e., deleting a file caused a green progress bar to display that hung at 99% for several seconds, and renaming a file or folder would cause the white text box to stay open for an extended length of time before closing and showing the new name. After a lengthy process of elimination, I discovered that disabling the Shell Hardware Detection Service at startup would resolve these issues. These problems did not occur before I re-installed the OS. Does anyone know why this might be happening and how I can resolve it permanently without disabling the SHDS? Thanks.

Answer:Shell Hardware Detection Issues

After reinstalling Windows did you install all the drivers for your hardware from the relevant manufacturers website? if not then you will need to do this. Determine what hardware you have, motherboard, GPU, wireless adaptors etc and download the drivers for them. it may also be worth installing the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driverhttps://downloadcenter.intel.com/pr...

Hi all,
Hope someone out there can help me. I have recently updated to Win 7 and well it's fantastic for me so far but I have a little problem. I live away from home and a regular user of Skype Im having a problem making calls. Everything else on the software is ok, sms works, I dont use a web cam so I dont know if that works. When trying to make a call it connects but the ringing sound comes from the speakers not my usb phone. I have a RED mic icon on status.

As to the other sound on the system its all ok, no problems with music, movies, Games etc

I have checked around a little on some forums on the web but so far I havent found many similar threads to my problem.

thanks

bradreid78, welcome to the forums.

If you haven't yet have a look in the Windows Sound properties and make sure your USB headset is set as the default communication device for both playback and recording.

Hello all. After a few problems with my computer, (and the fact it came with no recovery CDs) I was forced to totally reinstall Windows XP on my computer. I was running the Media edition which came with it, but I was forced to purchase the Home edition. However, XP absolutely refuses to detect my on board sound card, I tried to look at things in the BIOS, but I am clueless and don't want to screw something up.Oddly enough, it detected my Video Card right away. I looked up the computer model, and it says I should have a Sound Blaster Audigy card.Thank you in advance.

Answer:Sound Card Detection issues

A sound Blaster card would not be onboard... It is a card... Onboard would be built into the motherboard... Am I right? (I have been known to be wrong)[glb]Flame[/glb]

Hi Everyone Im new to the forum I hope I have posted this in the right place.
Im having audio problems that I have been unable to resolve I have looked around on google and found some so called solutions but nothing has worked for me so far, I have posted my pc specs and problem below.
So since I upgraded to Windows 10 one of the biggest things that annoys me is when I plug in headphones they are not picked up by my pc and I have to manually switch to them as default audio using the Playback devices menu. On Windows 7 I had a Audio Control panel that popped up and detected the headphones.
Im also having issues with the volume sounding low throughout and terrible call quality on skype not sure if this is a separate issue, I have tryed manually updating, removing & reinstalling the audio drivers from the device manager and also tryed downloading the realtek windows 10 drivers. None of these have seemed to help, I have tryed software that detects out of date drivers to no help and also made sure other components on my pc are updated incase this somehow helped.

If you need anymore details or more pc specs let me know.

Answer:Audio Issues - Quiet & no detection of headphones

I usually found had to switch between speakers and headphones either in sound properties or through sound device software to make them work. Could depend on type you are using, USB headphones or 3.5mm headphone jack or larger. One thing should of listed was brand and model of headphones. Some headphones USB come with software and drivers.

Over the past few months I have been getting problems with every single microphone I have tried in an effort to finally get everything working. Previously the problem started when my microphon randomly stopped working, somehow it was fixed by me going to the microphone properties window (for the default mic since this one overrides it), and replugigng in the microphone. Now literally no mic that would be plugged into the microphone jack is working ony my PC. I tried system restoring, reinstalling all my audio drivers, everything. What can I do to fix this.

This problem is not unique to Windows 7, I had this issue when I was on XP aswell. Basically the computer can detect the monitor that is plugged in via DVI or HDMI but when I plug a monitor into the VGA output it says it is the same monitor as the one plugged in on the DVI output.

How can I get it to correctly detect the monitor on the VGA output. Currently I have an Acer P223W plugged in the DVI output and a Advent X19W plugged into the VGA output. When I plug the Advent X19W into the DVI output it functions correctly. I am also using a DVI to VGA converter.

HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!

Keir

EDIT: Also I have this problem with any combination of monitors I have and I have tried differant cables too!

Answer:ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Detection Issues

Have you tried with one connected DVI and the other connected VGA, without using the adapter? From what I can find both monitors have both DVI and VGA inputs, so there shouldn't be any need for the adapter.

Also where is the adapter connected? If it is on the monitor's DVI port and using a VGA cable from the VGA port on the card, that is why it isn't working.

Hi, I seem to be having some issues on my pc after my previous anti virus, Kaspersky 7.0, detected an infection of some sort and aparently removed it; however, after this issue kaspersky was unable to update, so i uninstalled it because i wasnt really liking it and i instaled ESET Nod32 wich found no threats but the next day it couldnt update either. that same day a scheduled windows update came up with a prompt stating that it was unable to update and windows defender did the same. Also the home page on my IE is Google but it seems diferent in the sense that when i click on any link in Google a new page is opened and sometimes its a completely diferent page than whatever i was searching for on Google, often an unsafe site that opens up multiple other pages. this doesnt hapen with every link and clicking the same link afterwards will usualy go to the page i was expecting. this seems to me like an obvious malware problem but it seems so random. Also, and im not sure if this is related, but my pc has 6 usb slots and two of them are usb 1.0 while four are usb 2.0 however, one of the 2.0 ones today wasnt reading the printer attached to it and when i switched it with a PSP the device was recognized but a prompt came up stating that the device might work slowly because it was designed for a 2.0 slot. i have connected the PSP to this slot before and it was instantly recognized by what i believe to have been, untill today, a usb 2.0 slot. i dont know if this is related to the other ... I've been using a HP Compaq 8300 USDT with a 64GB mSata drive in for a few weeks now without issues (Sata2). But i've just recently installed a second hard drive connected to the on-board Sata Ports (Sata0).Now every time i boot the the machine i get prompted with the following error."No bootable device""Insert a boot disk and press any key" I've noticed that within the bios after each reboot (or normal Power On) under the 'Boot Order' it's listing Sata0 as the first Hard Drive boot device. Even if i change the 'Boot Order' to list Sata2 as the first device, and saves these settings it proceeds to change the setting back by itself. Is there a way to make the boot order stay with Sata2 as the first boot hard drive. Any Assistance would be greatful System is running Bios Version 2.90

I have a T530 model 2359-CTO with the dual graphics: NVIDIA NVS5400M and INTEL HD graphics 4000. I have the Lenovo Power Mgmt Driver 6.65.1 installed, as well as the NVIDIA Display Driver 9.18.13.3302, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64.  I have the Lenovo Power Mgmt Driver set to sleep when the lid is closed, but sometimes when I close the lid - the sleep icon doesn't light up and when I re-open the lid the computer is running, but the screen never recovers from black - so I am forced to re-boot. I also have times when the computer does sleep when I close the lid, but then the next morning the computer is buzzing away like it is doing something with the lid still closed.  Again, when I open the lid to see what is going on, the screen never recovers (stays black) and I am forced to re-boot. I occasionally also get a BSOD error "Driver Power State Failure" code 9F.  Some or all of these issues may or may not result in all of my cookies or IE temporary files having been deleted. The screen also regularly blacks out in the middle of playing a DVD or streaming movie despite the Lenovo Power Manager setting for Power Plan - Idle Timers - Turn Off Display being set to a very high number of minutes.  It seems to ignore all of it and blacks out the display every 20-30 minutes or so. I have owned many Thinkpads and never had such a temperamental machine as this one.  I am suspecting the combination of the Power Management... I've been running Windows7 on my SL500 for about 8 months without any issues. Recently however, the audio auto-detection function has ceased to work. I'm not sure that's what it's technically called, but I mean the function that detects when a device is plugged into the headphone jack, and then mutes the speakers and sends the audio to the headphone output. I've tried re-installing the drivers both by letting windows find the appopriate drivers, and by using the Windows Vista audio drivers (as there don't seem to be Win7 specific audio drivers on the lenovo site) but to no avail. I'd really appreciate any help. Cheers- Nathan

I have a T530 that came with a HDD. I then bought a SSD, installed Windows 7 on that, and erased the old HDD partition to make a media partition.Recently, I bought a used T530 for my girlfriend. It has a 16GB SSD and a 500GB HDD. I put the 500GB HDD in my Ultrabay, erased it and cloned my SSD onto it. But then it gave me a bootup failure: "error oxc000000e boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible" I suspect this has to do with the SYSTEM_DRV partition on my HDD. My SSD is probably dependent on it. I tried cloning both the SYSTEM_DRV partition and the SSD partition, but that didn't work (using Acronis). I'm stumped.http://i.stack.imgur.com/toYVI.png

Answer:Boot failure after cloning one T530's SSD onto another T530's HDD

Hi Dussault,

which cloning software did you use?  Also it's 99% mission critical when cloning ThinkPads to have the target drive in the primary hard drive slot, if not usually a clone will fail.

You may want to search through the Knowledgebase for articles on cloning.
