Preferred Solution: T-430 2101 Detection Every Time I Restart

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T-430 2101 Detection Every Time I Restart

Hi, mboon

I tried to do some research on your error, but Microsoft has little listed for a code 2101 error. Could you possibly reboot your machine at some point and copy down the error message in its entirety? With more information, we might be able to figure out a fix.

Best,
Adam

I get the following message when I turn on the laptop: 2101: Detection error on SSD (M.2) The laptop (T560) is new and was only received on the 13 May 2016.  When it occurs I run thediagnostics and can usually get the machine to boot up. However, the error then reoccurs at a later stage, usually if the machine has been idle for a while.  I have lodged a service call with Lenovo but thought I would share my experience here and see if anyone else has the same issue?

Hi, I just received my T430 about 4 days ago and it's working perfectly until I was trying to install important windows updates. As I was rebooting my laptop after the installation (which fails everytime I don't know why), my computer gave me a loud beep and a error code of 2101 detection error. So I searched this forum and found this solution http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074404 from another post that had the same problem as mine.As i was following the steps,( i did cmd, uninstalled express cache, and did disk managment) but as i went on my disk management i could not find my mSATA. I have a 16 gb mSATA and it was working perfectly fine before. I've noticed on my reboot that it took longer to load and the error message would then come up.So my problem is that I cannot view my mSATA disk on my disk managementThankyou!

Answer:2101 Detection Error: Cannot view my mSATA

The Error 2101: Detection error on HDDx miniSata is a BIOS error. This has nothing to do with the operating system you have installed or any drivers. During the POST, the system does not see the miniSata drive. I (like some others) received my new T530 recently, setup it all up and then a few hours later received this error. The solution is simple. You must open up your ThinkPad. Remove the two keyboard screws and remove the keyboard and RE-SEAT the miniSata drive. There is 1 screw holding the board down. Remove it, re-insert it in. Screw everything back up and voila, no more issue. Go to the Lenovo / ThinkPad Guides and Manuals page for your device (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/default.page?) and download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your ThinkPad. There are clear instructions (for those less inclined) on how to remove the keyboard. You do NOT need to disconnect the ribbon cable. Simple / carefully slide the keyboard forward and the miniSata drive will be visible and accessible. You can also use the ExpressCache program to get stats on the miniSata drive and see how it is working. Open a Command Prompt (in Administrator Mode) and issue the command: eccmd -info   -   Display ExpressCache activity informatio eccmd -?   -  Will show you all options eccmd -format   - Will reformat and clear the cache drive. Hopefully, this will help out those out there with this issue. Hello! I just recieved a new T530 I7 and also a Crucial M4 mSata SSD (CT256M4SSD3). The issue I have is sometimes the system will give a 2101 detection error at Post and the only way around it is to power off again, remove the battery/AC and try again. Ive seen other posts regarding this error but no clear resoution.

Answer:Intermitent 2101 detection Issues with new T530 and mSATA

Called Crucial support.   They had me change the Intel 7 AHCI controller driver from Intel to the Standard Microsoft driver.  They suspect that the Intel driver is causing the drive to not shutdown properly.  I'll see how it performs with the generic driver for awhile.

I got this error out of the blue the other day on startup, and now I get it every time I restart.  I have tried a number of solutions that I found in these forums (which I'll outline below) but it seems like my system just can't find the drive anymore.  Here's what I've done: 1. ran the ExpressCache program via Command Prompt (eccmd.exe -info) and got this error:  "**ERROR** ECCmd Request device is not available"2. unistalled the ExpressCache software, shut down, pulled the battery opened up the memory module slot cover, removed the mSATA drive and then re mounted it.3.  reinstalled ExpressCache4.  I'm trying to reformat the drive, but I am receiving similar errors     a.  When I try to format the drive (eccmd.exe -format) I get the following error:  HFS Volume is not mounted  **ERROR**  ECCmd Requested device is not available     b.  When I try to create a partition (eccmd.exe -partition) I get the following error:  0x10df (4319).  I looked this up and maybe there are system files missing? I have also tried this but it then says "There is NO mSATA detected, please check mSATA attached" http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT073737 If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Answer:2101 detection on HDD2 (mini sata) error on my T430

Hello and welcome,

None of the symptoms you describe sound to me like software issues. There is something wrong with the mSATA SSD, or the controller that accesses it - or it needs to be re-inserted in its socket.

Is this machine under warranty?  I'd suggest calling support and running this by them.  They may suggest re-seating the device in its socket, or may offer replacement or some other option.  I don't speak for Lenovo, just offering my personal suggestion.

I ordered the mSata mini 128GB card to go into the half size slot under thge keyboard.  However when I boot I get:  "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (Mini SATA)".  I thought that a half size drive would work, as it does it my Lenovo W520.  However it appears the BIOS does not recognize it.  It does however recognize it in my W520. Has anyone else successfully added a second drive internally to the X1 Carbon Touch? http://www.mfactors.com/msata-mini-half-size-sataiii-ssd-128gb-64gb/

Answer:X1 Carbon - "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (Mini SATA)"

Hello and welcome,

No personal experience here, but I do see this note on the page you linked:

Note: Only works with systems with mSATA standard connector. NOT compatible with Mini PCIe slot for WWAN/wireless cards

The way I read the Hardware Maintenance Manual  that slot is WWAN only, not a WWAN/mSATA combo slot.  Could be wrong.

Very annoying.

I've read a lot about the 2101 Detection Error of mSATA issue on x220 with mSATA other than intel 310 installed. Last year I purchased a W520 and an Intel 310 mSATA. They worked fine together untill yesterday. I have windows 7 enterprice 64bit installed on the mSATA and linux installed on an SSD. I have a 500GB HDD installed in the ultrabay, as a shared data volume shared by Windows and Linux. Everytime I try to boot windows, it fails. And during the next reboot, the "2101 Detection Error" shows up. To try to solve this problem I have the mSATA reseated and the 2101 error disappears, until I try to boot windows again. Everything works fine IF I ONLY BOOT LINUX. 2101 Detection Error shows up everytime I TRY TO BOOT WINDOWS UP. I've updated the UEFI BIOS to the latest version which is 1.36 but the problem is still there. I've used the lenovo diagnosis tool (bootable usb) to run a set of quick tests and no error detected (except for drive self test either not supported or not passed). Please find the configuration of my laptop below:======================================W520-4270CTOCPU:                                 I7 2720 QMMEMORY:                        16GB (4GB SAMSUNG X 4)VIDEO:                   ... Except of rare cases with some Crucial (or Corsair, didn't remember) and Samsung drives. Also do not use OCZ drives.

Model: T450sEquiped as:Intel i54+4GB RAM256GB SSD (M.2) Configured as boot disk running Win 7 x64500GB HDD as additional storage Issue:Seemingly at random, approx once every one to two weeks while PC is on and at the desktop but not actively being used (meaning no user is sitting in front of it performing tasks) it will error and crash.  The error is a black screen with the following error: 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2) Press Esc to continue. According to the user Esc does nothing and the only escape is to long press the physical power button until a power down occurs.  On reboot the system comes up without issue.  No user has actually seen the crash take place.   MY QUESTION(S):1st.  Is this most likely an issue with the T450s not being able to reliably boot from the m.2 slot or is this more likely an issue with the SSD installed in the m.2 slot?2nd.  Is this something altogether different?  Any (knowledgeable) advice or info appreciated.

Answer:T450s Thinkpad - ERROR 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but my experience has been that the Gen4 and later CPUs (like yours) support a very low power state that is incompatible with some devices. (that would make it a problem with the card) Make sure you have the latest BIOS and power manager software installed. Look in the device manager and find the M.2 SSD. There should be a power management tab. Turn off the option to allow the system shut the device off to save energy.

Hi.  I have a T430s (original owner). At boot-up, I receive a "2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini sata)", BUT I don't use a Mini SATA!! Windows 10; All drivers current via Lenovo system update (incl. bios 2.69).I have a Crucial SSD drive; I have verified Crucial SSD has latest firmware.I do not have (and have not had) a Mini SATA card installed - this is why the error is so weird to me.I DID recently change the Wifi Switch and cable (which is when the error started showing)The wires that would feed the Mini SSD are still covered with tape from the factory (I forget the colors)I have removed the battery, internal battery and power (and rebooted).  I have reseated the SSD and the DVD drive (and rebooted).I do not have Express software installed; the software that would control the Mini SATA drive (I can't see any "express" software in Add / Remove programs) Can you help me with this annoying mystery?

Hello all, I have a new Thinkpad that I'm trying to secure, but I don't want to overdo it. Here is what I've installed so far:

- McAfee 8.0i VirusScan (this is comes to me free and legal from my firm with free updates which I get weekly - so while there might be "better" anti-virus applications out there I've gotta stick with this one because the price is very right!)

- Adaware (whatever the lastest version is, just downloaded it in January).

- Kerio Personal Firewall 4.1.2

From all I've been reading it appears that the only thing I don't have yet is real-time spyware detection. Question is: do I REALLY need real-time detection or is this just overkill? I use Firefox for most of my Internet browsing, except for those "trusted" sites that I absolutely have to use IE for because they won't work otherwise (like my bank's site). I don't want to bog my machine down anymore than it has to be. Would it simply be best to hold off on installing real-time detection and only install it if I start getting nasties?

If the answer is that I DEFINATELY need real-time detection, can I simply use SpywareGuard without SpywareBlaster? I don't want to load anything unneccesary or overkill. Has anyone ever had any compatibility problems between McAfee and Javacool products? With Adaware? With Kerio?

I trust this forum to give me unbiased advice, so please keep up that tradition.

Thanks!

Hi folks,
I can still remember the date to this day. In early January, I was helping a guy who was once my friend rebuild his brutally and viciously attacked and practically torn-down, server. In the process, I had used the web drive FTp client to help him retrieve some content he needed. There were other things on the accessed fileserver, and I wonder if they could have been the cause of this strange, but never fully understood, phenomenon? A few months later, February 23, 2010, in fact, I bought a subscription to NOD32, and it wasn't until a scan on March 3, 2010, that this happened. I awoke to a list of threats that had been discovered supposedly on my computer. NOD said that it could only delete and quarentine them, which was the option I chose, but the real question is where in the world did this one particular one come from? NOD32 called it TrojanDownloader:Win32/Delf.NZL. I can see that being something since Eset has a few descriptions of the Trojan.Delf family in their encyclopedia. But where the file was located According to NOD makes me wonder if both threats in the list were false positives since one of them had a .txt extension. The trojan downloader was located in my web drive cache folder. Strange, isn't it? Why would a trojan bury itself in my cache since a cache is only meant to be a snapshot, and none of the files inside are ever active? And not to mention, since NOD had scanned prior to then, why hadn't it seen those files before? I know for su... Read more

I have an issue with my new laptop (HP Pavilion dv9408ca). I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 and after installing every driver and update for HP and Vista, the battery monitor only shows the percentage and NOT the time remaining. I have never had this issue on my last laptop (Toshiba A100 - Vista Ultimate 32), nor does my brother on his new laptop (Toshiba A200 - Vista Ultimate 32). I took the same sidebar gadget (battery monitor) from our Toshiba laptops and installed it, and it still shows only the percentage. Vista does detect the AC adapter (charging, full charge, no battery just charger), as well as low battery indication. Don't know what to do next.

Hello,

I use trend micro antivirus.  Today it detected TROJ_SPNV.03D214 affecting the two files C:\Users\Momen\AppData\Local\Temp\01396299820424.exe\$TEMP\nja.exe and C:\USERS\MOMEN\APPDATA\LOCAL\TEMP\nja.exe and removed them. Then, I scanned using Malwarebytes and it quarantined a file  at the location C:\USERS\MOMEN\APPDATA\LOCAL\Egdftion\CNBP_251.dll from the vendor virtool.vbcrypt. However, whenever I start my computer (Windows 7 desktop), I get a pop-up  with title RegSVr32 which says:

The module "C:\Users\Momen\AppData\E...\CNBP_251.dll failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .dll files. The specified module could not be found.

There is an OK button to click at the bottom of the message and the pop-up goes away when I click on it. However, when I restart the computer the same message comes back.

Also, it seems that google search may not be functioning properly. For example, using Firefox browser only, if I search microsoft on google and click on the link for microsoft's website, it does not let me go the website ( I get a white screen with Connecting... as  the tab title) but if I directly type in the website's address into the address bar, I can get to the website. This issue of google search not working does not occur in Internet explorer.

What should I do to clean my computer?

Hi Everyone,

I hope anyone can help me with my problem with my laptop! Currently when I log onto my computer, it takes more than 5 minutes to load. I have already browsed through many threads and have minimized the number of start-up programs. It was a little better but it still wasn't like how it was before.

Also, when I want to shutdown my computer, I have to wait 10 minutes before I will hear the "Windows turning-off sound" and it will shutdown. Does anyone have any clue about how to fix this?

The computer in general appears to be running smoothly once everything is loaded into the computer except for when I want to add/remove any programs where there is a huge lag after uninstalling a program!

These problems started occurring about a couple days ago. I haven't been doing anything differently nor have I installed any new programs onto the new computer. I have scanned for viruses using Symantec Endpoint Protection (and no results) and also used CCleaner to clean everything else.

Here are my laptop specifications:

Dell Latitude ATG D630
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9500 @ 2.60 GHz
2 GB of RAM
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3
If any help can be provided, it will be much appreciated!!

Thank you in advance!

I am running ComboFix on a Dell Dimension 4550 with XP Pro SP3.I've run into this a couple of times before. This time I need to make sure because one of the real time scanners being reported as active is: VirusRanger 3.2.I am unable to find any reference to VirusRanger in my Registry or Hard Drive. Is this a false positive? Where, and how, can I find the reference to this being active? How do I remove this if it is a false report?ThanksEdit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

For anyone interested http://www.westcoastlabs.com/realTimeTesting/article/?articleID=1#item3

For many people, paying for an Internet Security Suite is either not an option or not a choice they?d like to make, depending on how you look at things. Luckily there are more than a few free software solutions on offer. For the testing of these we worked with West Coast Labs (WCL).

Thanks to West Coast Labs, PC & Tech Authority is providing its readers with real time access to the testing data from free security suites. This means you?ll be able to see the prevention rates as a percentage across the three vectors, as well as the average prevention rate for each service.

Answer:Free Antivirus: Real Time Anti-Malware Detection Rates

Thanks for the heads up

How come that panda, adware AV, COMODO AV and some others wheren't apart from this test? they are free. Four products is not enough

I really wonder why people make such a big deal of malware detection; what happens if it doesn't have detection for it through signature... In my eyes this means nothing and worthless test.

Hi,
Windows Offline files seems to detect a Slow Link transition pretty quickly and changes to offline mode, but it seems rather slow detecting when the Slow Link transitions back to a Fast Link - is there any way to reduce the Slow/Fast Link Detection checking
interval as I can't find a Registry Key that controls this?
ie, if you pull the network, the machine pretty quickly switches to offline mode, but when you re-insert the network it seems to take 2 minutes to detect the re-connection before it switches to online mode.
I would very much like to reduce this 2 minute interval to something more like 15 to 30 seconds - can this be done?
Thanks and Regards
Gary

Answer:Windows Offline Files - Is it possible to reduce the Slow Link Detection time interval?

Hello Gary,
I think when PC change to use LAN, it need time to negotiate with Switch port and use time to contact the DHCP server to get the IP information.
Please check the time between you get the IP address information and see all files.
Because based on my test in virtual machines, I disable the network card driver and then add a new test file in the offline folder. Just after my enabling the network driver, the file is sync to the source share folder immediately.
I think it takes 2 minutes is not caused by the configuration in Windows.

The time displayed is dependent on the time zone you set in the system and whether you have taken things like DST ( Daylight Saving Time ) into account. Many systems run on GMT ( Greenwich Mean Time ). This differs considerably from other time zones and systems.

If you have two separate operating systems installed, and you want them both to display the same time, then you have to set them both up to do so.

You can also setup systems to synchronise with a time server of your choice.

The world time server gives you information on times around the world;

The World Time Server: current local time and date in any zone

and also offers an atomic clock synchroniser.

If the time displayed on your system changes every time you boot the machine, then you have other problems. If this is so we would need to diagnose that more carefully.

Regards....Mike Connor

Hello, the problem was in faulty SSD drive. Seller told me that he probably got some bad series of this SSD because almost 60% of sold was not working, so I returned it and picked up Transcend MTS400 256GB which works like a charm.

Question: x260 Error 2101

I have a X260 with a Samsung 850 EVO SSD installed connected to the normal SATA cable. Recently, the system ran down in hibernate or sleep mode until the battery was completely drained. The next time I started it up, Iwas presented with an immediate error after the logo of "2101 Detection error on SSD(M.2)". Booting into BIOSor UEFI diagnostics doesn't show any options for diagnosing the SSD. What is odd is there is no M.2 SSD. ?Right nowI am traveling and don't have a SATA-USB cable or another drive to try, but is there any possibility this is something other than my SSD failing completely? System does not boot. Things I have tried already: Reseating the SATA cable, Resetting BIO S to default settings, "Power Cycling" the SSD. All checks in UEFI diagnostics pass.

Hi all. I have a 1 month old t450s bought directly from lenovo. Standard HDD and ram, decided to go with the HD+ IPS monitor (very good) and opted out on the 16gb ssd. I've bought a crucial balistic 8gb stick and a Transcend MTS400 128gb ssd m.2. I've installed everything and it was all working well with the eventual 2101 error on boot after resuming from sleep. Since my OS is installed on the SSD I've disabled the sleep mode, because boot time is less than 5 seconds. Anyway, a week ago I've started experiencing random freezes doing regular tasks (browsing, documents...). Yesterday the computer was frozen, I've power cycled it and I was greeted with a 0xc0000225 blue screen (something on the lines of file system not found).I've tried everything, system repair, changing the UEFI settings, reseating the ssd, running the Lenovo bios diagnostics (all green). Nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks!

Is there any way that I can restart my PC after a certain time

Answer:How to restart your PC after certain time?

You could use shutdown app that comes with Windows. On Windows x86 it resides in C:\Windows\System32 folder. For example, command "shutdown /r /t 86400" will restart computer in a days time.
Or use some 3rd party application like Windows Reboot.

I recently acquired a 4kTV and I bought a mini dp to hdmi 2 adapter to connect my P50 to the TV. I've noticed that I cannot get the P50 to output to the TV when the desktop has been loaded; I either have to restart the laptop with the TV connected or log off and log back on before I can get a picture. This is an annoyance that I'd like to avoid, if possible, because connecting the TV directly to the HDMI laptop is basically plug'n'play. Thanks.

I have only tried a couple mSATA SSDs in my ThinkPad X220, but each one was detected immediately without any error.

Do you know if the 500GB Samsung 850 EVO mSATA SSD worked before you used it?  Perhaps you could try it in another machine, or with an mSATA to 2.5" adapter, just to verify that it works correctly?  Although it is pretty rare to occur, you could have gotten one that is just not working.

Hi, I just updated BIOS ver. from 1.30 to 1.37. Had no problem with it. The system restarted and got the message that " 2101: Detection error on HDD2 (mini SATA)" This is a Crucial M4 256Gb SSD, which I'm using since 5 month. Changed it back to my old KINGSTON 64GB SSD , and it works. I've downloaded BIOS ver 1.3 , downgraded the system, but the problem still exists. It boots without any problem with the Kingston , but not with the Crucial. Currently I don't have another computer to test the Crucial SSD if it's broken, but I think it's rather BIOS related. Plese advise what to do now, because I had all my work on that SSD.  Regards,Gabor

Answer:What is a reasonable restart time?

About 2 minutes in total here. Four users. If the PC hasn't been shut down or restarted for several days, it takes more time for Windows to shut down all running processes.Once Windows has actually shut down all processes, it takes about 45 seconds for it to go through the restart/boot-up before getting back to the Welcome screen.

I have windows7 professional service pack1 32bit.
Can anyone help me with this problem?

Answer:date and time changes on restart

Some of the more common reasons for the time/date changing:
1. CMOS battery on motherboard needs to be replaced.

2. Time/Date in BIOS not set correctly

3. Internet time synchronization isn't working (see Warnings for additional tips)

4. Internet time synchronization update interval needs to be changed

I don't know if anyone can help me. I just started getting BSoD when shutting down or restarting. I didn't install anything and tried basic stuff like basic stuff like start up repair which said that it couldn't repair.. Used ccleaner for registry, sfc/scannow and tried using password instead of pin and local account with no password but in this last situation it was stuck on a loop with that glitch I mentioned before.

That's because when you shutdown, you are not actually shutting down the computer, you are doing a Hybrid Shutdown". When you restart it does a full shutdown and reboot.

Answer:Windows Xp Restart All the time

hi uhd42,

hmmmm....does the computer restart anytime or does it only restart when your doing a certain task such as playing games? surfing the web?

also have you installed or uninstalled any softwares recently??

first, the easiest thing to do is to scan your computer for any viruses or spywares. i recommend good spyware utilities such as spybot and adware. a really good anti-virus program is AVG which works really great. if you download these programs and install them, make sure you update them first before running them.

try also performing a "chkdsk /r" on your computer and see if that helps. bootup the computer to your windows xp cd. then on the main choose repair instead of install, hit enter to skip the password section if you dont have one.

then on C: type in "chkdsk /r" without the "". also make sure there is a space between chkdsk and /r.

I have the same problem. Now I can't use sleep option, because every time I wake up windows, type password, it goes back and I have to restart my PC completely, it seems that this is caused by hybrid shutdowns, because when I completely turn off my PC and turn on the password works.

I also made a new account and it has the same problem, I can't log into it from sleep mode or "switch user" menu. Only when I restart my PC.
I looked at the video and my PC loads for a few secs (~15) and then returns back.

This started happening after Anniversary Update

this is ongoing issue for several months. I have taken to just clicking 'no' and going about my business.

but I would like to properly resolve the issue if possible.

thx in advance...

I've seen a similar thread here for someone else, but my understanding is that I should not follow the instructions that were given to him as every case may be different. I received an MSN message from a friend and opened what I thought was a picture file from him before I noticed the file extension was not .jpg or .bmp etc..

Now I get an a.bat Trojan reported by my anti-virus software every time I load. Ad-Ware Alert 2008 will not run properly (It hangs halfway through searching my disc).

Here is my HJT 2.02 log

Thanks very much in advance for any help offered.

I have an issue with Windows 7.

Whatever time I set Windows 7 to (i.e. Eastern Time, Western Time, Coordinated Universal Time, etc.), on restart it sets itself to GMT, while still showing that I've selected the previous time zone I set (i.e. Eastern Time).

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Time Resets to GMT On Restart

Open Control Panel, hit on the Region & Language applet... go to the location tab... choose a location that corresponds with the timezone you've been trying to input, by the sounds of it using the Windows clock/Date applet on the far right of the taskbar... and this should sort matters out...

My restart time is 258 seconds is this ok? i don't think so?? I Have run all sony diagnostics plus i have mcafee securty no bugs, virus etc; ALL SAY NO PROBLEMS however i see in event viewer performance/diagnostics that since day 1 (that is to say purchased date) there has been the same notices? slow shut down slow boot either warning or critical EVERY DAY So I either do nothing. Hi all,
I'm having this issue since I upgraded to Win 10: when I click restart, my laptop becomes stuck on the restart screen for ages, even the hard drive doesn't show any signs of activity. Its only after like 15 mins or so the hard drive comes into life and the computer turns off. What could be causing this?Normal shut down and hibernate aren't affected.

Answer:Very long time to restart!

When you upgraded did you remove you AV program?

while startin from shut down condition,my laptop stats within 10 seconds. But when i restart it takes a much longer time and also the screen flickers 2-3 times on hp screen and log in screen. Is this a problem with only me and is it something to worry about.I bought my laptop 2 weeks back only from hp store.

Answer:longer time during restart

Hi, Welcome to the HP support forum. Thank you for posting! This is nothing to worry about. Actually, this is expected behaviour and is caused by the way Microsoft WIndows 8/8.1/10 works. It's kind of "cheating" but helps starts faster  Windows XP, Vista, 7 when they shutdown - they make complete stop of all software and shutdown. With the introduction of Win 8, and then Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, if you use default settings - when you shut down - Windows does not stop/shut down all apps completely but the Win 8/8.1/10 shut down is like a semi-hiberation mode ("hybrid sleep" mode). It keeps many system functions they way they were and only some stuff is re-loaded. This makes your PC start faster.  However, when you do complete restart, it takes longer because it reloads quite a lot of things from scratch.  More info: >> http://www.howtogeek.com/95482/heres-why-windows-8-will-boot-much-faster-than-windows-7/>> https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/b8/2011/09/08/delivering-fast-boot-times-in-windows-8/ >> http://www.howtogeek.com/243901/the-pros-and-cons-of-windows-10s-fast-startup-mode/ >> http://lifehacker.com/enable-this-setting-to-make-windows-10-boot-up-faster-1743697169>> http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-10-a.html   Let me know if this helps you.

So I've read through the history of the msata and the x220 (4286-CTO) and how the BIOS revisions were required during the middle of last year in order to get the Intel 310 and some others to work. Thinking that my little x220 with Bios revision 1.26 (i7, 8gb, 4286-CTO) would be fine, I purchased a Kingston SSDNow mS100 64GB mSATA Internal Solid State Drive SMS100S2/64G and installed it yesterday. The instal went without a hitch, but when I restarted the machine, I received a 2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata) error.   I've seen that the 2101 error has been mentioned in relation to a couple of Sandisk msata drives on the forum, but those discussions didn't seem to go anywhere. I just got off my second call with Lenovo support (30 minutes today and 25 minutes last night), only to have them tell me that msata is not supported by my 4286-CTO.  That sounds incorrect, as others with the 4286-CTO seem to have luck with Intel and Renice. What am I doing wrong?  Is this something that another BIOS revision could cure?  At least on one of the sandisk discussions, the OP said that he/she had tested the drive in another computer without a problem, so I don't think it's a problem with the actual drives.   Somebody else mentioned that some drives are not compliant with the JEDEC standard, but that doesn't sound like an explanation to me either.  Thoughts?  Help! Best, sad x220

Answer:2101 Error: X220 with Kingston 64GB msata

I have the same issue with x220.  The mSATA I have is the Sandisk SDSA4DH-064G.  I can also add that the function of the mSATA is the same regardless of whether the mSATA is used in the mSATA slot or on an adapter card in the SATA hard drive bay (Error is 2100 rather than 2101, but the text is the same).  For this reason, I believe the Lenovo BIOS is unable to configure the mSATA drive appropriately.  I imagine that Lenovo could quickly resolve this with a new BIOS. I have tested this drive on a desktop consisting of a Asus P9X79 Deluxe + Intel 3960x running Windows 7, 64-bit.  Device is recognized by BIOS and WIndows Disk Manager.

(i have updated the title. sounds more like it. ^_^) Greetings ! I am a proud (well, yes ...) owner of the E530 A3G-Model sporting a 16GB SSD.Yes, the one with the pulsy, noisy fan. ^_^  The Story: Last week i thought i'd need a change and try something new. As i'm not really a noob oncomputers, i thought i'd set up Win7 x64 SP1 on the SSD. That's ... not that easy, considering the size, so i've spent the weekend removing irrelevant components ...... like Natural Language, Speech Support, Language Packs ...... from the Win7 x64 SP1 Installation Disks. It took me two days to get it to work, with several testing sessions using VirtualBox,but then i got it right. I haven't removed any drivers, services or anything actually essentialwhich could break the system. (I promise!) So ... after a long session in VirtualBox and installing this system on a small partition on my HDDto verify it REALLY works, i went going on to install it on the SSD. Please note that RapidBoot is turned off in the BIOS and i have removed ExpressCache, which i had previously installed manually, but wasn't actually caching anything anymore, for reasons i don't understand. Maybe i have turned it off weeks ago, i don't know. So, i have set up a 3GB FAT32 partition at the beginning of the SSD for the pagefile. It's a habit. It's a good idea to do this on HDDs, so i kept doing it. Longevity of the SSD was no issue for me,as if it breaks ... well, then it breaks ... but the... Read more

Hi there, After about month of use I suddenly got an error: "2101: Drive detection error on hdd2 (mini sata)". Simply while browsing the internet system hung up and after reboot the error appeared.I've read that people here had same error just after mounting their SSD's - mine worked fine for few weeks. The problem appeared short time after auto-updating BIOS but not just after flash. 2 or 3 restarts gone smoothly.Strange is that now my BIOS version is still 1.16 when on the web since last Wednesday hangs ver. 1.17 - the update went on Saturday.Any ideas how to avoid sending anything (Laptop and SSD) to RMA? I have already RMA ticket from OCZ but want to save some time and don't want to lose the data.Besides I'm not sure if it isn't issue of the new BIOS from Lenovo. Thanks in advance for any help.Gootchio

Hello gootchio,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

You should try and reseat the drive the computer is not detecting.  This should reset the code and hopefully correct the problem.

I'm currently deciding whether to upgrade to Windows 10 or not from Windows 8.1. The main thing that will prevent me from upgrading is whether I can regain some form of control over automatic restarts after automatic windows updates.

I understand from doing some research that you can change an advanced setting for Windows Update so that Windows will notify me to schedule a restart whenever the system has installed an update which requires one.

My question is how long will this notification be displayed for? For example, will the notification pop up and the computer won't reboot until I schedule a time, or will the notification pop up, but if I do not schedule a restart within a certain timescale just go ahead and reboot anyway?

thanks

Answer:Annoying search bar i get ever time i restart

Please do this. Click here: http://www.sherrylynn.us/HijackThis.exe to download Hijack This. It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed. Wait for someone to analyze the log and advise.

The message is this:

You must restart your computer to apply these changes.
Before restarting, save any open files and close all programs.

hi ! today I had a big problem with my computer
it restarted all the time. can not go to the welcome screen of windows
I pressed F8 .., chose all the option ( safe mode, last good... ,reboot ..) but it didn't work
what happened with my computer and why ?
what I should do now?
will I lose all my data ?

thanks for replying

Answer:can not acess windows , restart all the time

So it just keeps rebooting. Going to the screen to choose an option and counts down and then reboots?

If you have a XP cd you can try to get it to boot. Go to the R for repair.
It will come up to a DOS screen. And at that screen try a repair. type in chkdsk /p
Let that run. After it is done reboot and hopefully that goes into Windows.

If that doesnt work. Your data should be safe. You can always install this Harddrive on another computer to get the DATA off and you can then do a format and put the OS back onto the computer. But that is after everything else is tried.

Ok, so on the weekend my computer decided to shut itself down and restart after a blue screen flashed in front of me. It was so fast I didn't have time to read anything. So, I let it do the "disk check" for consistency or whatever it was doing....but it's happened 6 times since then. I read another post about a similar thing happening to another poster and followed the instructions to post a "minidump check". So I'm going to do it here because it looks like we're probably having a different problem. My fan seems to be working fine....no problems with the monitor, etc.

Here's my dump check (see attached). I'm really nervous because I have a home business and can't afford to lose all my info! I've gone out and purchased an external harddrive with a USB to do a backup!!

I have read this guide which shows how to auto shutdown your computer using the Task Scheduler in Windows Vista. I am up to the step shown in the image below.

I would like to change the task from shutdown to restart so I assume that I change the Program/script to restart but what do I change the Add Arguements (optional) to please?

Thank you.

Answer:Setting My Computer to Restart at a Specified Time

I have realised that I need to use the shutdown.exe in Program/script for restarting. I used -r -t 00 in Add Arguements (optional) but that did not work.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I'm having eye problems. If I don't reply back, PM one of the moderators for further assistance.

The perfmon report shows that the "dirty" bit is set on your C: drive. Please do the following:

Quote:

CHKDSK /R /F:
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as adminstrator) Command Prompt. Please do this for each hard drive on your system.
FWIW - I know that the /F is supposed to be redundant, but I prefer to have it run anyway.
When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter. Then reboot and let the test run. It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors. See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

Elevated Command Prompt:
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).
Copy/paste the results into your next post.

If unable to tell if the "dirty" bit has been reset, re... Read more

Whenever i turn my windows7 pc on, it tells me to set the time and date settings. After a google search it's mostly likely my CMOS battery is dead, so i bought one off ebay and installed it but i'm still having the same time and date errors...

Can anybody help?

Answer:Time and date resets when i restart the pc?

Did you go into Bios setup during Boot-up, and set the date & time for your time zone, there first. Then when in Windows set it to the same date & time as the Bios setting.

I recently upgraded from windows 7 to Windows 10.Since i upgraded from Win 7 to win 10 it took time to shutdown.

Answer:Why does Windows 10 take time to shutdown or restart?

There is a known issue on some computers which prevents shut down all together. It might be the same cause, so it's worth trying. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > "Choose what the power button does" > "Change settings that are currently available". Uncheck "Turn on fast start-up".See if this helps (shut down a couple of times to test it). If it doesn't help, put the check mark back in and keep an eye on here for further ideas.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Every time I shutdown / restart my HP 6715b laptop running Windows 7 I have to reset the time / date. I changed battery on motherboard and it has a good main battery that is fully charged. It doesn't matter if it is plugged in to AC voltage or not. What to do?

Answer:Looses time / date after restart Win 7

How for off is the time?  Many Hours? Wrong date?Did you mean you replaced the cell for the RTC, real time clock? If that cell fails, the clock will lose time.  But if the cell test good, the clock circuit has been damaged. And you would have to get in contact with HP to see if there is a way to fix it.This article might apply to your laptop.http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03590448Yes the article is long-winded, - but more that one issue can be involved.

Hi. I was hoping someone could help me figure out why I have to log in to certain sites every time I restart my browser. Until recently, I would stay logged into these sites (for example this one, photobucket, my email account) yet inexplicably I always stay logged into a knit and crochet site I belong to.

I’m using Firefox v3.0.15. Under Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies, I “accept cookies from sites” and “keep until they expire”. Under private data, “always clear my private data when I close Firefox” is unchecked. “Ask me before clearing private data” is checked. So I’m unsure why it thinks I want to log in every time I restart Firefox. I also cleared my cache and all private data.

This started about two weeks ago and it’s getting a little frustrating. The sites usually remember my username/password, but I still have to log in every time. Any ideas?
