Preferred Solution: ThinkPad T530 2429-6KG, H5321 gw Mobile Broadband Module - no driver

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: ThinkPad T530 2429-6KG, H5321 gw Mobile Broadband Module - no driver

Good day and welcome to the community.

The link you posted points to a driver listing support for the Edge E430 and E530 systems.
You may wish to visit the driver matrix for your T530 and have a look at the Windows 8 WWAN driver listed there. It has a newer version number and shows a release date last week.

Hope this helps.
Please do let us know.

Hello folks, pls I have a T530 - 239289G which I installed the Lenovo - 0a36319 - thinkpad mobile broadband global half. which of the Lenovo drivers and/or applications should allow to send and recieve SMS as well as connect to the internet? Please note I am using one of the mobile telco in Nigeria (MTN to be specific). I have also tried Access connection but I seem not to succeed in sending out SMS from the laptop, though I do recieve SMS. I am using Windows 8.1. Thanks for the assistance

Answer:T530 with H5321 gw Mobile Broadband

Hi, and welcom to the community. There are no win8 built-in or Lenovo apps for work with sms. Lenovo Access Connections supports that but it doesn't support win8.Only 3rd party tools do that if you'll find them. As an example Sierra Wireless Watcher supports sms but I can't confirm whether it supports this "foreign", not Sierra branded, wwan card.To establish internet connection you should at least:- insert sim card;- install Lenovo Power Management Driver, Hotkey Features Integration package, Lenovo Settings Dependency package, Lenovo Settings Metro app from the m$ site (for some further assistance);- slide on wireless switcher on the laptop case;- disable airplane mode (Fn+F5);- if your carrier network name doesn't appear in win8 network manager you should type in its APN settings. For details look at this page for instance:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht079369

Hello allI have a new Thinkpad Edge E130 with built in Ericsson H5321 gw Mobile Broadband Module, with GPS.With the original installation of Windows 7 (downgraded), everything works fine! I intstalled a new harddisk (with SSD cache), therefore I had to install Windows 7 again by myself, with a original Windows 7 64Bit.After the installation (Win7 and all drivers), in the Device Manager i still have a yellow exclamation mark beside the H5321 gw Mobile Broadband GPS Port. The error message is "this device cannot start (code 10)". It has to be a driver/software problem, because in the original installation this problem doesn't appear. So I tried everything to fix this problem, (reinstalling the device, reinstalling windows, using different drivers....) no success. I searched on the internet, even here on the lenovo community forum, no solution... Is there anybody out there who has a solution for this problem?Thank you very much!!!

Just got a brand new T530. Because it was installed with Windows 7, I restored the system from the accompanying Windows 8 recovery discs - no problem there. But there is one device that doesn't work, the one named "ericsson H5321 gw mobile broadband network adapter". I have tried to download the driver manually from here: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=h5321%20gw%20mobile%20broadband%20network%20adapter%20driver%... It installs without a problem, but afterwards, the system still claims there is no driver installed. I've tried the update functions in the device manager, both from local resources and internet resources, but it doesn't locate any drivers. What can I do to resolve the problem???

Can anyone explain the purpose of the partion SYSTEM_DRV and the partion with file system "Other". What wil happen if any partition (exept c:Windows7_OS) is deletet? The core of the problem is that I am not able to create a new partion in the unallocated area. The original Samsung SSD was 256G, the unallocated area is a result of copying that SSD to new 500 GB Samsung SSD.

If I try to install mobile broadband activation it say this is not a supported wireless WAN card installed in this computer, the setup cannot continue...... Any ideas happy people ThanX Andrew

Answer:Lenovo Mobile Broadband Connection Driver for Windows 7 - ThinkPad x200 5NG

you will want to check whetner there is a physical card installed. the x200 does have the card slot, but that does not mean that wwan card is installed. and even then ,its also not confirmed whether you have the wwan antennas installed. you will want to check your windows device manager and make sure you have a 3g modem listed under network adapters. if you dont, the card is unlikely to have been installed physically.

Hello, My workplace recieved a few of these units, and they appear to be missing Sound Drivers.  I went to the drivers section, and I cannot locate my model number.  BQ7 is not listed there. I downloaded System Update 5, and thought it would pick up the sound driver to update, but it also does not pick it up. Lastly, I went to the Driver Matrix section, picked T530, downloaded the realtek 85mb file, installed it, but stil nothing after a reboot.   In the system panel, it indicates about 4 missing drivers for a "Nvidia High Defination audio bus", and 1 missing driver for a RealTek High Defination bus" I also tried upgrading the Nvidia drivers video/audio drivers thinking its related, but no luck.  Cant find any audio nvidia driver, only video Please help can anyone direct me to the correct driver?

Answer:T530 - 2429-BQ7 - Unable to locate audio drivers

Have you call the support line. Rather than guessing and adding driver packages on a whim that it may be the right one. They should not be missing from the image supplied on the system to start with. There is also a driver pack store of these package already on all machines up to Windows 7.

I have an HP EliteBook Revolve 810 G1 Tablet with an inbuilt HP hs2350 HSPA+ Mobile broadband module. I have an 3G working SIM inserted. This was working very well with WIndows 8.1 and I was able to connect to internet easily with it and use this as a broadband connection. I recently installed Windows 10 64 bit as a fresh install. It recognises the HP hs2350 HSPA+ Mobile broadband module and installs a generic driver fro the same. The SIM card and mobile service operator (Vodafone IN) is also recognized and I can see a full signal strength. However when I try to connect to internet through WIndows 10, it does not work. The error message is " Cant Connect to this network.  Enter an APN and try again " In the "Cellular" under advanced settings, I have configured teh APN as per settings provided by the service provider (esp. APN name "www") everything else as default. However when I connect to the internet using this it gives me this error message mentioned above. The SIM card is worknig adn when I connect it to an Android phone it works very well. However when I connect my tablet using windows 10 it gives me an error. I reached out to Vodafone and they tried out quite a fe different settings but their inference is that its a Windows 10 issue. Can you please help? Parthesh Gulawani

I purchased a mobile broadband module per factory spec for my laptop so I got the lt2522 Novatell broadband module. I did not have a sim yet but wanted to make sure the install and drivers were present and working before I ordered the sim. I installed the module without issue using factory antenna wires already present in the slot marked WWAN, I installed the drivers listed for my laptop on hp website (sp60048 Novatel Mobile Broadband 3.18.30.1) Driver installed without any issues and broadband module showed in device manager as "Enabled and working correctly" under each line of "Modems, Network Adapters, and Ports. I opened HP connection manager and the Module was powered on and it just said "No Sim" So I assumed that the Module install and driver install was completed and functional. I called Verizon and paid to have a Pre-activated Sim mailed to me.  2 days later I got the Sim, inserted it, opened HP connection manager and ever since all I can do is turn the power on and off to the module, but whenever the power is turned on it reads "disabled in device manager" which I know is not true, I have rechecked device manager a dozen times, removed and installed module and driver package multiple times. Even reinstalled module and drivers without Sim and it still says "disabled in device manager". I searched the net and here at HP for solutions/updates/information, and haven't really found anything helpful, just a couple noteworth... Read more

After many hours work trying to get this to work after upgrading from Vista, the latest drivers for the card (7uw706.exe) seemed to work okay with a vodafone signal being shown but I was unable to connect. Looking through many web forums, lots of people seem to be having similar problems with these cards in Lenovo machines. I finally discovered that the APN needs to be set for UK operation and now I can connect okay. However, it does not seem to be controllable with "Access Connections" (Blutooth and WiFi adaptors can be controlled okay here) which either shows card is "Disabled" or it is not possible to switch it on. Despite this, the WAN indicator on the front of the PC is always on unless I physically switch all radios off with the front hardware button. Even with this button OFF, a reboot results in the WAN module showing as ON again and it is necessary to physically switch all radios on and off again to extinguish this. Presumably this card is still powered when the indicator is lit which will affect battery life. I believe I am using the latest Access Connections Utility (6gc725ww.exe). Anybody else notice these problems (especially Lenovo Tech people).......?

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

Answer:Thinkpad T440p: Mobile Broadband - it's Inactive button !!!

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To activate WWAN in your Lenovo ThinkPad T440p, first you have to ensure that you have a WWAN card and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN upgradable models have the WWAN antennas installed from the factory these will be red and blue wires (the Wi-Fi are typically white, black and grey or just black and grey depending on model). If you have WWAN antennas installed from the factory, probably you need to purchase a compatible WWAN card and install it. If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, install Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation which will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband.

Go to Lenovo Support site, enter MTM number of your device in quick path and get the system specifications. If you find any difficulties, please share the MTM of your device.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hi all.I've recently buyed a ThinkPad W530 (Lenovo Model Number: N1K4JIX).Tecnical sheet and distributor sheet say that in this model there is an "3G Open SIM" WWAN card. In fact, i've under the battery the slot for insert my 3G Telephon VODAFONE SIM.The problem is that i not can see nothing (software or hardware switch) that can control 3G Broadband connection.I update the notebook at Win8, with shipped Lenovo CD, i try to install ERICHSON drivers but this give me error (it's impossible initialize device). Now, my intret is in first how i know if i really have an Mobile Broadband Mini Card installed and not only the SIM slot and, after im sure of this, how can i enable and use 3G connection with my laptop?Thank very much at all, regards,Mauro.

Answer:ThinkPad W530 Mobile Broadband Mini Card

Hi, mauroreggio

If you navigate to Control Panel ? Device Manager, you should be able to see the listed network adapters in the computer. Can you post what these adapters are or take a screenshot of them? If a mobile broadband card is installed in your machine, it should show up there.

Best,
Adam

So after updating to windows 8.1, I can no longer connect to AT&T mobile broadband.  The AT&T app recognizes my sim card, but Windows shows no service no matter where I am! (even tested next to an AT&T tower).  I have the latest drivers installed from the Lenovo driver page, Sierra Wireless MC7700 - Gobi 4000 Software for Windows 8.1 (64-bit).  When it installs though it says Serria Wireless EM7700 not MC7700. Anyone else have this issue? Next issue is I can no longer connect to my corporate wifi which is 802.1x PEAP ,certificate based MSCHP V2.  I can connect to other non PEAP wifis without issue.  So at work I'm tied to an ethernet USB adapter when not on my USB 3 hub.Any help for the above issues would be much appreciated! I have model #3698-4UU

Most likely you're missing the internal broadband card. This can be purchased from Lenovo as an option.

Hi. I can't get the webcam to work. I got this laptop around mid June of this year. Tried to use the webcam for the first time today, Nothing. My device manager doesn't even list a camera. I tried to intall the driver (twice) to see if that would help, but as far as I can see, it's had exactly 0 effect. I downloaded the lenovo settings app, and it's not there, either. At least, I see no setting options for it. But this model of laptop supposedly has a webcam built in, and my model looks pretty much exactly like the others I see on google images, except for a circly light thing in the strip where the camera is supposed to be. I have no idea what the hardware/wiring should even look like so I can't help there. I've been at this for hours. At this point I would just buy a webcam off Amazon or something if I could be sure that the laptop would actually register it.

You don't really need this software to use your WWAN card, in fact even you succeed to install it, it might prove unuseful to you (Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation is an application for ThinkPad systems to support mobile broadband (3G/4G) activation for various service providers)(various providers not equal all providers). You could use Windows to manage the WWAN connection directly. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/use-mobile-broadband-to-connect-to-the-internethttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/mobile-broadband-from-start-to-finish

Hello, I'm thinking to buy ThinkPad Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250. I?ve few questions, Pease suggest ...1. Is it really any good and practically beneficial?2. Can I use it on Fedora 27, How?s Linux support?3. X250 has two PCI Express M.2 card slot and one is already occupied by WLAN Card and other slot is available, Can I use empty slot for FRU-04X6014?4. Can I use both WLAN and WWAN simultaneously?5. What is the impact on battery (Windows and Linux)?6. Is AliExpress a good place to buy? Thankyou

Answer:Sierra Wireless EM7345 4G LTE Mobile Broadband FRU: 04X6014 for my ThinkPad X250

Regarding your questions:1) I personally use it and it's really good, as I don't want to use additional USB modem or WWAN wireless router.2) Can't say, as I don't use Fedora.3) There's a dedicated port for this module. Please make sure, that you have an antenna connectors for module and adapter for a SIM card. Moreover, instead of WWAN module, you can install there a m.2 2242 SSD disk.4) Both can be enabled and connected, but application will use one at time.5) I have an extended battery, so it's hard to tell. I guess it have a simmilar power usage as WLAN module (basing on Windows power utilization). Can't say about Fedora.6) It you don't want to have a problem with whitelist (it prevent system from booting, when unauthorized module is installed), then I look for module on eBay. Make sure, that photos explictly show FRU PN: 04X6014 on module's label. Models without it will not work.

I purchased a W530 with integrated mobile and have been trying to connect with various networks to no avail. I have a Type 2436-CTO S/N xxxxxxx 13/08 and Windows 8 came installed when I received. I have upgraded BIOS and everything that Lenovo solutions says I need to update.

The MEID is A1xxxxxxxxxxx. It came with an integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355-Gobi 3000 modem. I have downloaded an updated driver for Windows 8 for the MC8355. I have spoken with almost every Lenovo technical person as well as taken the computer to various network stores and so far no one can figure out why it won't connect to Verizon.

Verizon says I'm active and the computer error message says I am not active. Every tech has tried to look at the system by logging into my computer and no one can figure it out. The device manager says the MC8355 is working. Interesting when it was shipped to me it also had an AT&T sim card installed. After I had signed up with AT&T and one mo of paying for service they determined it would not work on their network. Finally someone told me to take the AT&T sim card out and it still will not connect.

Verizon tells me I do not need a sim card as I have the MC8355 but they can't tell me why I can't connect. Now I've paid for Verizon service for one month and still cannot connect. Everything else works fine with the W530. I've owned ThinkPads exclusively since the first one ever came out. I've never not been able to connect to mobil... Read more

I installed all the drivers I could find for windows 8.1, and it still doesn't want to work. maybe it's a driver conflict, maybe I did something wrong. anyway, I can't figure it out. did you experience the same issues? btw: I don't know if it has a WWAN card, or if it needs one, because I bought it refurbished.

Hello!  Recently I installed the latest updates for my computer through the System Update program. Unfortunally it seems like the updater doesn't manage to install all the updates, and that are the drivers for the "Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard PC SC Port". I open it in "device management" (dont't know the translation), and find there are no drivers installed. So is it also for the "Ericsson ... GPS Port/Device Management".  Because of this I can no longer connect to WiFi. I have visited lenovos driver pages, and downloaded the requested driver, including the others needed, and installed them manually. The problems is that Ericcson driver keeps "rolling back" during installation after having paused at 100% (the same happened through System Update). It resets the installation, only leaving the message that it was interrupted.  I have never had this problem before, and I don't see why I suddenly would be without WiFi drivers. However I'm stuck, can't find any previous driver versions to install (nor roll back to an older driver as there is none).  Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks Message Edited by tormhau on 06-18-2009 12:10 PM

Dear Lenovo Support-Team, can't get the Ericsson H5321 gw WWAN mobile broadband modem to detect the SIM card on Lenovo Twist S230u. OS: Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit)Firmware of Ericsson H5321: R3C18 (g7wq12ww.exe)Driver of Ericcson H5321 installed: 8.0.10.1 (g7wo09ww.exe) Things I already did:Run Levono System Update 5.06 and updated all driversUpdated BIOS to the newest versionDeleted "Mobile Broadband Drivers" and associated files + installed/tested driver version 8.0.9.3 and 8.0.10.1 (with same not working result)Checked in BIOS, that Wireless WAN is enabledChecked BIOS for other associated settingsThe inserted SIM card works on other devices (HTC phone, iPad) and is being inserted correctly (there is only one correct way to insert it; and yes I'm inserting in to the SIM card slot not the SD card slot) Strangly the driver is shown in the device properties as 8.0.8.5 (cf. attached screen3.png). Deleting the device, software and drivers and installing the newest version does not show version 8.0.9.3 or 8.0.10.1 in the device properties. Hi guys A colleague at work has asked me to look at his Thinkpad Edge E330, which he's upgraded to Windows 8. I've been able to get everything working fine except for the mobile broadband, and I was wondering if I was just doing something silly or if the current Windows 8 driver supplied is just a bit dodgy? The Windows 8 driver installs without issue, and takes care of the device in the Device Manager. The Mobile Broadband option shows up in the Network Connections list too although it's set to Off with no option to switch it on. In the PC Settings app it's also present and set to Off, and the slider to turn it on is present but greyed out. Curiously the GPS function ere works perfectly. After installing the driver I updated the WWAN firmware too, but this had no apparent effect. Is anyone aware of a solution to this issue, or is it just a matter of waiting for a new driver? Thanks for your help!

Can someone confirm whether the Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is supplied locked or unlocked on the X60s? Just bought an X60s and was told the internal SIM slot is unlocked and would take any SIM card but for some reason it's taken an unhealthy dislike to my T-Mobile SIMs. When I load the ThinkVantage Access Communications Wireless Connection Staus window and click on the Mobile Broadbad tab, at the top above the Connection Status box I get the message "SIM card is locked...." When I load ThinkVantage Access Communications and press the Mobile Broadband button, I get the following message "The installed SIM card is not authorised for use with integrated Mobile Broadband adaptor in your computer." This latter message seems to suggest that Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is locked.

There is a version called T540s that supposedly will come to the market. The model number was leaked on the driver page of the Lenovo, which showed driver compatibility. Not sure whether T540 will come to market or not. From past releases new ThinkPad classic should start to come to market in September this year (this is my speculation).

Hi guys, I'm buying the laptop in the subject but I want to do some tweaks with it.I'd like to add a Crucial M4 256GB SSD and keep the HD putting it into the DVD slot (as far I understood it's called ultrabay).Today I realized that for doing that I have to buy something called HD caddy which is pretty expensive (here in Italy) so I was thinking about taking an mSATA SSD (price is almost the same as the normal SSD) so I don't have to buy the caddy and save some money. What do you guys think?Another question: to put the mSATA have I to remove the WAN?Thank you

Answer:mSATA or SSD for Thinkpad T530

Hi mrgorefest:

Yes, the Ultrabay Adapter would replace the optical drive.

You can switch out the HDD drive with a SSD, Replacing the optical drive with the Ultrabay adaptor will allow you to put the HDD in that space but you're obviously losing the use of the optical drive (Note that this will also slightly increase battery consumption). If you decide instead to purchase an mSATA SSD, you will have to remove the WAN card but you will retain the use of your optical drive.

I hope that clarifies things a little

Hey Guys, I'm shopping around for a new laptop and learning that Lenovo holds 2nd place in the best computer manufacturers list, I started looking at their line of laptops and narrowed down to 2 laptops, The T530 and L530. The question is, which one? I've read that the L530 is more "eco-friendly" and manufactured with cheaper materials, but is there anything else that might make one better than the other? Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad T530 Vs. L530

If you can afford it get the T530 (although the T540s and T540 is about to come out in October), it will last longer and is structurally stiffer (it uses an internal magnesium alloy chassis, as opposed to the L530 that uses PC-ABS casing as its structural frame, which isn't as robust). In terms of sustainable computing, you have to think about the entire lifecycle of your computer. i.e. how long you are going to use it etc. So even if the L530 uses recycled plastic, if it only lasts you 4 years as opposed to the 6 years with a T530, you find that overall the T530 is more eco-friendly by the fact that the laptop lasts 50% longer. Finally everything in the T530 can be recycled too.

Hey guys, I've been looking at different laptops and I am seriously comtemplating pulling the trigger on a T530, but before I do, I would gladly appreciate it if you guys would give me some pros and cons on the T530 as well as some pros and cons on what you guys think are its top competitors. Now a little bit of insight on me, I understand that the Thinkpad is purely a business computer and while I'm not a huge business freak, I'm going to be replacing my long running HP Pavilion ZV6000 laptop very soon, and before that I bought a Thinkpad 240Z from my old company and it was a very good laptop so that's why I'm considering Lenovo. Anyway, more consumer-oriented computers are allowed to participate.  Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad T530 Competitors

Although there are some serious issues with Thinkpads as of lately, I would still suggest buying one.I have a T530 and although it's far from perfect with some glaring issues, such as wobbly battery, and screen lid while laptop being closed - which then pulls the bottom of the case and the resultis squeaky and wobbly palmrest area(s). My T530 has some backlight bleeding issues, but it'sonly noticable when computer boots up and when there are dark scenes in movies (left bottomand I might even go as far as saying the whole upper and down part of the screen). USB portsare also wobbly. Touchpad is somewhat quirky, not registering tapping always but I presume thismight be software issue (tried playing with tapping sensitivity, but to no avail). There is also backlightbleeding on my backlight keyboard, and some of the keys are not evenly illuminated. The upperportion of the body, just above F1, F2 keys and below the screen where the volume and power on/ofbutton(s) are is also poorly constructed with noticable flex going on, especially around beforementionedvolume +/- and mic mute keys. To me the most worrying issue is the wobbly palmrest area which isbecoming more and more obvious. With other issues I can live with. Now, even though I've stated many issues with my T530, I would still suggest buying one. I waslooking at Dell Latitudes and HP Probooks, but the fact that HP is way to expensive to configure itby yourself (a price of 700$ 14'' HP Proobook - Elitebook - immediately j... Read more

I need 32-bit Windows 7 Pro for some hardware and software compatibility. Does anyone have experience downgrading the installed 64-bit to a 32-bit? I've read that you can do it with the same Windows key, but I'm wondering if there are any driver issues - any hardware in the laptop that isn't supported for 32-bit. Thanks!

Answer:New ThinkPad T530 with Windows 7 32-bit

Hello and welcome,

Yes, you can clean install Win 7 and use the existing key - as long as it's the same version.  32/64 bit doesn't matter.

Take a look at the driver matrix for the T530.  That will give you an indication of the 32-bit driver coverage.  At a quick glance, it looks complete.

[edit] I'd recommend burning a recovery media set for the machine before downgrading.  I'd recommend that in any case...

Hello, I'm considering buying a T530 from US, because the price is much lower. I'm from Czech Republic and I would like to know if the Lenovo warranty would be applicable here. The warranty I have in mind : 4YR Onsite Next Business Day + Accidental Damage Protection. Thank you in advance.

I have a problem with my ThinkPad T530 model 2429NL6, on which Win 10 is running.I purchased a data SIM card and inserted it into the SIM card slot, but I can't connect to the data network.I can't understand if the modem is missing, if the modem is present but the driver is missing, or if it's a problem installing the network in Win 10.How can I move around?(I ask for a simple language in the answer, as I am an inexperienced user)Thanks

The computer last worked the third week of August. Unfortunately, my warrenty had expired a week and a half before this issue happened.I am not getting any lights when I plug in the AC. I tried a bunch of troubleshooting on my own, including removing the battery and power supply and holding the power button for a minute, etc...I had a computer technician take a look to and he determined that it is a motherboard issue.I called customer service multiple times, and was told there was nothing they could do because my warrenty was expired, and also emailed customer service and just received a generic response to call customer service.I just have not had any luck receiving any care from customer service. Help please

I have a T530 with the following specs:Processor: Intel Core i7-3720QMMemory: 8GB (4GB x 2 DIMM) DDR3-1600MHzGraphics: NVIDIA NVS 5400M - 1GBStorage (Primary): 500GB Samsung SSD 840 EVOStorage (mSATA): 16GB SanDisk CacheOptical Bay: DVD-RWWireless: Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300Bluetooth: 4.0Fingerprint Reader: YesOS: Windows 8.1 ProI would like to increase the memory to 16GB with 2 8GB memory modules. I will need to replace both modules so compatibility with current memory is not an issue. What I would like to know is if I can use certain performance memory features. Can I take advantage of RAM with speeds faster than DDR3-1600 (such as 1866 or 2133)?Can I take advantage of RAM with a lower CAS Latency? Can I take advantage of DDR3L memory (1.35 V), or will it just run at 1.5 V even with DDR3L modules? Will certain combinations of the above 3 features cause issues? Finally, are certain brands more stable than others?

Answer:ThinkPad T530 RAM Upgrade

1. PC3-14900 (1866MHz) and faster may work on your T530. But this depends on the quality of the IMC of your CPU. My W530 accepts PC3-14900 SODIMMs and I do not have errors. If your T530 does not accept the faster memory it will not post your Windows may start giving errors, data will become corrupt and so on. I only recommend installing faster memory if you have some overclocking experience on a desktop.2. Yes, but gains are minimal. This article explains in a simple way the advantage of lower CAS latencies or higher bandwidth:http://www.anandtech.com/show/6372/memory-performance-16gb-ddr31333-to-ddr32400-on-ivy-bridge-igp-wi...3. I recommend buying 1.35v modules, they will run at 1.35v. Lower DRAM voltage also means less stress on the IMC. And reduced temperatures around the CPU and RAM area is also an advantage. I saw some infrared pictures comparing 1.25v, 1.35v and 1.5v two years ago.4. You can make a bet at 1866MHz CL10 1.35v like I did, but make sure to test for stability thoroughly. Reliability is more important than the marginal performance increase you will possibly get, if any. Grab some PC3-12800 1600MHz CL9 1.35v modules if you want to play on the safe side. When purchasing SODIMMs, it's better to buy 2 SODIMMs separately for the warranty, if one of them is faulty, you will only need to return one SODIMM. If you buy a set of 2 SODIMMs, if one appears to be faulty, you will have to return both.As for brands goes, I recommend Crucial, Corsair and Kingston.I hope I he... Read more

I tried to update my BIOS on my T530 today.  Tried both 2.07 and 2.50 (I'm running 2.04).  I'm using the Windows app, not the BIOS CD.  With both 2.07 and 2.50, I get the following error message: "Fail to do module option. The utility process has not completed."  Can anyone help?  I saw one thread that indicated this may be because I chose the option to keep my custom start up image when presented with the option, but I was afraid to choose anything else.  FYI, now the Lenovo update utility doesn't even tell me there's a BIOS update available...it's listed in my installation history as a successful update! Thanks for any help you can offer.

If you are on Windows 8 it is likely because you need to do a full shutdown. The default is hibernate shutdown for the next boot. Then there will be cold reboot after which if may finish the process. Windows 8 shutdowns are totally different process and the machine is never totally off.

Hi all. I just ordered a Thinkpad T530 with the 1TB, 5400rpm hard drive. I'm now having second thoughts about that drive and wondering if I should upgrade it myself to a 7200rpm drive (it's too late to change my order). I will be using this computer for Adobe CS6 programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, and After Effects. I will also probably be running Linux in VirtualBox. Will the 5400rpm hard drive make these programs run noticeably slower than a 7200rpm HDD? I also have an i7 processor and 8GB of DDR3 RAM. If you think it's worth it to buy a 7200rpm drive (probably a smaller size), where do you suggest I buy it? I'm not sure how to tell if a hard drive sold online will be compatible with my T530. And can I get a Windows disk from Lenovo to install Windows on the new hard drive without having to purchase a whole new copy of Windows? Thanks!

Answer:Upgrade HDD speed in Thinkpad T530?

'afternoon...
welcome to the community.

first, i recommend that once you receive the machine, use the "Create Recovery Media" function found by searching for same from the Start Orb (or in the Control Panel, i think). i like creating on DVDs. second, contact Service and request that they send you a factory recovery DVD set. functionally, both sets will do the same thing, namely, restore your machine to a factory-delivered state.

once you have these in hand, you can consider how you want to configure/reconfigure the storage systems. personally, i would look into getting a mSATA SSD for OS/swap/temp/apps and using either recovery set to image it, and then repurposing the terabyte drive as data/documents/video/photo/etc.

cheers.

I just bought my T530 on Monday. I'm loving it. I'm a first time Thinkpad owner. I have always admired them and have been surrounded by friends/family who have owned/own Thinkpads. One question... I did see a link on Lenovo's welcome site on the first boot of my new laptop for the $14.99 Windows 8 upgrade offer. I tried clicking the link and nothing happend. I tried searching Lenovo's site and google as well but haven't found the 'form' to fill out to apply for this offer. http://www.lenovo.com/us/laptop/?cid=us|627892& Anyone else have this problem as well, or is it just me?

Hello all, I have a real difficulty choosing between these two W520 and T530.  Both are used and prices close.  The main differences are listed as below: (1) CPUW520  i7-2720QMT530  i5-3320M(2) Graphics and displayW520  Nvidia graphics card (Quadro 2000) with FHDT530 Intel 4000 with 1600x900 (3) PriceW520 is $60 more than T530. I am planning to use the laptop mostly for word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint presentation in classroom, HD video watching, no video editing.  Any advice or helpful information will be appreciated.

Answer:Which one to choose - ThinkPad W520 or T530?

For those tasks you wouldn't need a Core i7 or discrete graphics, save yourself some money and go for the T530.The only disadvantage would be 1600x900 instead of 1920x1080, but it would be hard to see the difference.

Hi Im thinking of getting a T530, however not sure how the keyboard is. I see conflicting views here, some people prefering the new chiclet and some hating it, but theres not many opinions so far on these forums. I have tried the keyboard on a T500 and T510, which obviously have the classic thinkpad keyboard and find it quite good, although i certainly think my old Toshiba Tecra A3 Keyboard has better feedback and feel. I have tried the Lenovo Chiclet keyboard on a Lenovo G570 (i think it was called) in a local computer store and Im not overly impressed.  It is better than most of  the other chiclets but I find the feedback feels more like a pocket calculator. On a traditional keyboard, I find my fingers tend to glide over the keys and dont have to move my fingers much, as the keys are close to each other. On the G570 chiclet keyboard I find, the spacing a bit far, which should be good to reduce errors but I still tend to make just as many errors and the feedback doesn't feel that well damped and cushioned. My question, will the keys on the T530 or W530 have better feedback and damping than the G570 or do theyfeel the same. Thanks in advance for all you opinions and help

Ok, so here's a long story. Purchased a Thinkpad T530 5 years ago. Configured it with two drives that came from Lenovo (one in main HDD bay, another one in Ultrabay - one was IIRC Hitachi and the other one Toshiba, can't remember which was installed in which bay). OS was Windows 8 Home (installed on HDD in main bay) which I sported for a only few weeks since I was confronted with Ultrabay HDD constantly (every 5-10 minutes) parking its head (clicking noise). Being unable to successfully resolve the issue I decided to ditch Windows 8 and install Windows XP 32-bit (also on the main bay HDD). Problem? Gone. In the meantime, I decided to sport a dual-boot system and installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)  on the Ultrabay HDD (in the meantime I replaced the Ultrabay HDD that came from Lenovo with a WD 7500BPKT drive). Problem? None whatsoever, probably because the HDD was constantly in use since it had a OS (which became my main OS) installed on it. Fast forward to a few days ago. Bought a Crucial MX300 2TB 2.5'' SSD and installed it into the main HDD bay. Purchased a SAMSUNG 850 EVO mSATA SSD and installed it into the mPCIE slot. Left the WD 7500BPKT HDD in Ultrabay. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) onto Samsung mSATA SSD and? Problem with Ultrabay HDD constantly (not as frequently as other people using AHCI+Windows+Intel Rapid Storage drivers were reporting though - once every 5-10 minutes in my case vs once every minute or so as reported by other users) parkin... I have a T530 Thinkpad.  When I turned it on this morning, the lights came on and then went out again, right away.  I have been trying it off and on many times.  I even took the battery out for a while and tried to no avail! Thanks to whomever can shed light on this!

Answer:Thinkpad T530 powering up issue

You may have a similar problem I do with my T430.My Solution Center just updated itself and it seems that they put back an old bug from last year where it does not recognise some of the smaller power cords.  As a result, it simply refuses to accept power from these cords.  In order for it to charge, I have to trick it by putting it in airplane mode: this way it is expecting a weaker charge.Something similar may have happened to your T530 and, if you failed to notice it, resulted in your battery completely discharging.   Maybe you could take the battery to a store, or a friend with a similar computer, to see if they can charge it for you so that you can open your computer and put it in airplane mode while Lenovo fixes the problem. Hope this helps.

Hi.I am interested in purchasing Lenovo Thinkpad T530I have a few basic questions for members that are familiar with this laptop. Can I upgrade the hard drive to SSD(after purchase) or is the HD not upgradable? Can the memory be upgraded(after purchase)? Is the battery fixed in the laptop or can I remove the battery and recharge it separately?I also notice in another thread, there are still issues with the T530, should I delay my purchase untilthese quirks are fixed? Thanks.TC.

Answer:(Q) From a newbie on Thinkpad T530 Laptop.

HD is upgradable after purchase.  I upgraded mine to an SSD, runs beautifully.  RAM's also upgradable to a max of 16GB. One stick is easily accessible on the bottom, the other is under the keyboard, but stil accessible. Battery is removable, but I am not sure if you can charge it outside the laptop. As to purchasing, nothing's perfect, but I can say that I love mine, purchased a month ago.  No big complaints.

Hey anyone that can help, Extremely frustrating, the wifi keeps dropping on my Thinkpad t530. Doesn't last more than 5 minutes, sometimes 30 seconds.  I have to manually disconnect and reconnect to get it working again.  Anyone have a solution? Anyone? Bueller? I've sifted through all sorts of threads tyring to find something that will work but so far haven't come across anything that has.  Lots of ideas but no luck.  Looking for a tried and tested solution that will actually work. Update drivers, change settings, something. Thinkpad t530, Windows 7 64-bit, Intel Core i5-3320M Thanks in advance.

Answer:Thinkpad T530 Disconnecting from Wifi

I don't know if this will help at all, but I have a similar issue with my W530 running Ubuntu 14.04.1.  It drops wifi anywhere from 5 minutes to several hours.  If the hardware on the T530 and W530 is the same, I would suspect a hardware or firmware issue, since the OS is different.

Hi, I know that this is a common problem since the past couple generations of T-series laptops. I have also read the various solutions posted in this forum. But all of them were sort of work arounds. Is there any permanent fix for this problem? Like maybe a modified battery released by Lenovo or something like that.Honestly, one of the reasons I prefer Thinkpads is their sturdiness. I plan to keep this laptop for atleast 3 more years and I can't ignore the fact that the battery on it is wobbling everytime I move the laptop around. Thanks

On the redesigned keyboard on the T530, the delete key is now where the PageUp key was on earlier ThinkPad models ? viz: top right corner of keyboard and the PgUp & PgDn keys have been repositioned adjacent to the cursor movement keys.     If your fingers are used to the previous Thinkpad keyboard layout, it is now very easy to unwittingly press the Delete key instead of the PgUp key, sometimes with unfortunate results.   The keyboard has a lovely feel but the new position of the Delete key to the top right  and repositioning of other keys would seem to be a poorly thought out keyboard redesign affecting long time ThinkPad users that would be very used to the previous long standing layout.

Hello,  I have ordered the "Lenovo Thinkpad T530" with only the 4gb option in it and would like to personally upgrade it to 16 Gb.   (link to laptop) http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T530-23594LU-Notebook/dp/B00BFFAY9Q/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t When searching for compatible ram I found ram ranked at 1.35v and 1.5v and would like to know if any differences would come from going 1.35v opposed to the 1.5v pre-installed in the laptop and if it is even compatible.  If 1.35v is compatible with the t530, I found this (2x8gb) ram for ~$140: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231705    .... any reviews on it and compatibility with my laptop?  I'm also open to any other options if you in the Lenovo Community can help me with ram/general upgrade.

I have a T530 with a WD 10JPVT 1TB (5400rpm) hard drive. I want to add an identical drive that I can clone to for a backup. So, ignorant me, I purchased a second drive and an Orico external housing, only to discover that neither the T530 nor the minidock (433815u) have a SATA port. So I tried using the new drive with a Thinkpad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III that I was using in a T400, but the drive doesn't appear in My Computer. Questions:Is this drive compatible with the bay adapter? If so, do I need to do something so the computer sees it? (I ran a disk partitioning program but don't see the drive.)?If this drive isn't compatible with the bay adapter, what's the best way to connect this second drive to my computer? (I did see an thread that implied this drive caddy would work.) Thanks!

Answer:Adding a second drive to Thinkpad T530

You should have a eSATA port on the side as I do and I hookup via it for data and imaging backup. its fast and does not require transporting the drive or removing the DVD drive. You might want to look again. As for the Ultrabay its OFF, not powered by default. It wakes up when the eject of the DVD button is pushed. That does not help for a HD situation. You might want ot look at as similar thread already active here on a configuration solution already posted.
