T500 3G connection

Question: T500 3G connection

I've always used my T500 (2243-64G) with Wi-Fi and LAN connections, nut now I need to use a mobile 3G connection. I see a little slot for a SIM card close to the battery, but I don't understand if my laptop has the card to manage the connection. I'm searcing for old datasheet, but I don see anything useful. What can I do? Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T500 3G connection

AFAIK, a SIM card must be in that slot if you have a subscribed to broadband account. That requires a monthly fee to the provider. An easier solution, if you do not have built-in broadband, is to use a USB broadband modem obtained from a provider of choice, such as Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc., along with their provided software access. I use my Droid phone's hotspot that has a Verizon subscription with my T510. Before that, I used a Sprint C777 Expresscard modem along with Sprint software.

Not using ACM. In Denmark. Using XP Pro (Lenovo Image). This is the only T500 computer we have at the moment so I cant try with another computer. Computer came with a Sonofon SIM card but my company has a contract with TDC (.dk). At first when I started the  "Mobile Broadmand Connection Manager" it asked for the pin number and failed to activate a correct pin number. This problem went away after I ran "System Update" and updated anything connected to WAN, wireless and networking. After it started accepting the pin number the "Mobile Broadmand Connection Manager" went on to say "Your carrier is currently unsupported. Please contact your carrier for more information". It did however create a connection under "Network Connections". The connection starts, but on "registering ......" it fails with a error code 734 and a countdown to a redial. The connection that it made has the correct phone number and no username or password. Tried calling the carrier/TDC although they gave me all the all the time in the world, but they could not help me. They did go over the connection with me and the phone number "*99***1#". They also me that the SIM ID I was calling from did not show any tried connection attempts, so it looks like Im not hitting their servers. I tried installing Access Connection Manager and that did nothing (except aggravate my boss/the user). The connection does not show up under wireless connections. Went over every sin... Read more

Hello, I've got a strange problem on my T500 series. This is the model with Ericsson F3507g broadband modem. I bought Win 7 Pro 64 bit, and installed on my ThinkPad. I've downloaded all the drivers with System Update 4.0 and the computer is running great (Intel SSD Drive, 8GB of RAM), but I have problem with a VPN connection. The connection is establishing properly. But when I'm connected i can't send or receive any data. One more thing, this situation happens when I'm using WWAN connection. On cable or WIFI everything is great.  PLS HELP.

I'm having a problem with my T500 WI-FI connection. When I start the laptop in about 70% of the time it will connect to my network and everything will be fine. The other 30% of the time it will come up and either not connect at all to the router or will connect to the router but not to the modem for the internet connection. Its very eratic. So that you know I have two other computers running on this wireless network and they have no problem connecting and staying up (BTW... they are running at the same time I'm trying to bring up the T500 and get on without a hitch). I had the wireless modem replaced by Lenovo and it didn't fix anything. I'm currently using Microsoft's Network and sharing center to bring up the connection because I tried Lenovo's Access Conections and initially thought that it may be the problem. This is going on 5 weeks now and this problem is driving me crazy. Can anyone help?

I can only get a 100 Mbps wired connection (not 1 Gbps) on my T500.  I am connecting to a Netgear GS605 switch.  I have tried using exactly the same port and cable that gives 1 Gbps on another computer (a Dell XPS 420) but the T500 will still only connect at 100 Mbps.  Both computers are running Vista Ultimate.  I have tried changing the Advanced/Link Speed & Duplex setting (in the Intel 82567LM device driver) from Auto Negotiatitation to  1.0 Gbps Full Duplex but this does not help.  Any suggestions?

Answer:T500 gives only 100 Mb wired connection; not 1 Gb

have you tested transfer speeds to see if it's simply misreporting your connection protocol?   i've found more than one system reporting 100 Mbps yet transferring anywhere from 75 MBps to 105 MBps (.6 Gbps to .84 Gbps). also, have you turned off wireless on each system?   i've seen vista transfer over wireless even though a wired connection was present.   unfortunately it doesn't automatically choose the faster connection.

I just purchased a T500 couple days back. My wireless card turns off automatically like after a couple of hours or so. It wont work again without a restart. I uninstalled and reinstalled Access Connection, but it still did not help. I am running Windows Vista. I also tried disabling the "switch off wireless card to save power" in the wireless card properties. That did not work either. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5300 card. When the connection drops, i try to search, and i cannot find any other wireless connection in the area. Any help would be really appreciated as it is annoying when the internet goes off every now and then, and you have to restart. I have other laptops connected to the network as well, and they don have any issues connecting to the wireless network. Thanks!Message Edited by mukun566 on 09-20-2008 01:17 PMMessage Edited by mukun566 on 09-20-2008 01:27 PM

Hi, all. My T500 has been doing this for a while. I finally got around to actually posting about it. Some background info: computer has the Intel Centrino 5100 wireless card, router is a Linksys / Cisco WRT54G2.Under device manager, all wireless wifi devices are set so that it will NOT shut off to save power.Under Power Manager. dim display is set at 5 minutes, turn off display set at 15 minutesStop hard disk rotation, enter system standby and enter system hibernation are set to "never"Here's the problem. After stepping away from the computer for a while (longer than 15 minutes), I come back and move the mouse for the display to turn back on. The wireless connection, for some reason, has dropped. When I attempt to reconnect to the router, it fails to reconnect. I try again and it fails to reconnect yet again. Mind you, all other devices connected to the router are fine and none have dropped the connection. The only way I can reconnec to the router is by unplugging the router and powering it up again. Only then will my T500 reconnect. What do you suppose the problem is? What's the best solution to fix it? Advice would be most appreciated.

Hi, I trying to setup a T500 to be able to connection to our 3G supplier, but I can't get it to work. If I use the USB modem that our supplier delivered there is no problem. When I do a error repair it says that the modem don't have access to the GSM GPRS-service or the WAN-networkservice isn't accessible on this location . What can this be, and what can I do to get past it?

Answer:Can't connect to 3G on T500 through Access Connection

Which 3G card do you have in your T500?

Which ISP are you trying to connect to?

What frequency band does the ISP's 3G service operate on?

I bought my T500 in March 2009 and I am going to be using it throughout college. For the last month or so, my computer will randomly dump me off the internet and it's getting very irritating. I have the Intel 5300 AGN wireless adapter in here and it was factory installed. Every two to four minutes, my internet connection will break and when I click my little "network" / "connection" it will tell me that "Windows cannot find any wireless networks." I run Windows Network Diagnostics and one of the repair options is "Turn on wireless capability", and so I do. Then, in another few minutes, the process repeats itself. I know that I do not have a virus on my computer, and I know that the problem is not my router--every other computer in my house works just fine. I've looked on other forums and apparently the 5300 AGN is notorious for being a pain in the ___... Oh, and I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium.

Myself and numerous others at my work have the same computer and are experiencing the same problem with or Wi-Fi.  No matter where we are, or what router we attempt to connect to, the laptop drops the connection. I have tried at work, at home, at local free Wi-Fi sites, etc.  All the rest of my laptops at home never lose the connection, so it is not the router.  Additionally, my coworkers experience the same problem at their homes, so this is a Lenovo problem. On my computer, I have XP SP3, and am NOT using the Lenovo wireless connection crap software.  I'm simply trying to connect using standard the XP wireless network connection tool. It will connect for a few minutes and work fine, but after a few minutes, and at random, the connection will drop all by iteself. Does anyone have any suggestions?  I've already attempted to go into the device manager and modify power settings for the Wi-Fi to no avail. Thanks!

I have had my T500 for 2 weeks and over the last few days it has started dropping the connection every few seconds and then reconnecting seconds later.  I have no problems like this on my T41 running on the same wireless router.  I have tried several of the suggested solutions on this forum including changing the power management settings on the battery icon to "Maximum performance", changing the roaming settings to low, changing the channel on my wireless router, installing the most updated power management driver, upgrading access connections, and my system was already shipped with the latest wireless driver.  I have the Intel 5100 running on Windows 7 with a NetGear WPN 824 router.  Is there anything else I can try?

I cant explain it, but for some reason, the WiFi seems to stop working.  Connection manager shows no Access points nearby when I'm right next to a couple i have setup.  Attempting to connect to a known connection only gives a message about not being able to connect.  I've unistalled and reinstalled TVAccess Connections and it still doesnt appear to receive any signals.  Switch is on... Answer:T500 WIFI Loss of Connection

I had 4 computers on a wireless network in my home and an older (4yrs) SMC router. The system worked fine until I added the T500, at which point the T500 and one ofthe other computers kept losing the ip. TVAccess would show I was connected, but my browsers would not connect to the internet. After fruitless hours with tech support, I bought a new router (Dlink), which seems to have solved the problem.

I have read most of the posts about T400 and T500's dropping the network connection, and it seems to include both the 5100 and 5300 cards. My T500 does it too, and the hours spent on the phone with the service center only yielded a response that it would happen when I unplugged from AC power. But it does it at any time, usually when I am just reading my notes before continuing with a paper that I am writing, etc.(I have already had the problems with the computer going to sleep and not being arousable, and have downloaded the new drivers, AND changed the configuration to have it NEVER go into hibernation--seems to have worked. )Has anyone yet gotten a fix or reasonably good answer from Lenovo?MARK???

Hi everyone, I have had my t500 for a few years now and it is dying slowly.  I have an idea that i was wondering if anyone would know how to do.  I want to start gaming, but i like to sit on my couch when i do.  so my idea is to disconnect the cable running to the laptop screen and keyboard, and reconnect it to a desktop.  this way il have the desktops graphics/computer power with my laptops screen and keyboard so i will be able to play on my couch.  Ideally, i would be able to throw a switch into the cable assembly so i can reconnect the screen to the laptop and be able to use it like i am now, however that is not a neccessity.  I am going to start looking for wiring diagrams but i was wondering if anyone knew an easy way to do this.  I realize that i will be fully voiding the lenovo warranty (which is already expired anyway). Thanks alot!

Hello.I just bought a (used) T500 and installed Win7 (64bit). It works fine so far, except that it has some problems with our network at work. I've already talked to our IT guy, and he assured me, that my settings (IP-address, DNS server etc.) are all correct.  The connecting isn't the actual problem, it's the holding of the connection. At irregular intervals (at the beginning often after seconds or some minutes, later it lasts longer) the connection just drops. It's reestablished directly afterwards, as one can easily see in the network centre. But this takes a while, and this constant dropping-reestablishing-dropping is kind of annoying, especially if you want to keep a permanent connection to another workstation.Wireless connection at my parent's place and broadband (DSL) at home work just fine. I also tried to connect my notebook to different access points at work, using different network cables, but no difference. In all cases the notebook was powered by AC and the power plan "optimal power source" chosen.Of course the most recent drivers via Windows and Lenovo System Update are installed. There are no error messages in the device manager nor in the ThinkVantage Productivity Centre. So far only two possibilities come to my mind:a) It's a hardware error (e.g. loose contact) in the network card (Intel 85267LM Gigabit), which means I have to send the notebook to Lenovo. I still have guarantee, but it might take a while until I get it back. But then, shouldn't... Read more

I've read through the long thread about dropped wireless connections, power management, 5300 drivers, and all that, and I don't think this problem is the same.  This T500 (2242-CTO) does sometimes fail to reconnect after reboot, hibernate, or sleep mode, but that is usually because the wireless radio comes up in the 'off' state.   Easy to fix. The more frustrating problem is that, randomly while online and actively using Firefox 3.5.3, I get  the "connection was reset" message, and there is no access to any web site.  Meanwhile, I can use Thunderbird to check and receive email, and I can ping my server no problem (so it's not a power management problem).  Sometimes, if I restart Firefox, the connection resumes.  Sometimes not.   In the latter case the 'diagnose and repair' function (right-click wireless icon in tray) usually doesn't help, turning wireless on and off (with switch) usually does restore full functionality.  By the way, when Firefox is refusing to connect, IE also fails to connect, so it is evidently not a Firefox-specific problem. Vista Home Premium, SP2 - 32 bit The 5300 drivers (if relevant) are the following:     Date:          2/9/2009    Version:    12.3.2.1    C:\windows\system32\drivers\netw5v32.sys    C:\windows\system32\netw5c32.dll    C:\windows\system32\n... I have the same problem with my T500.  It works fine 80% of the time, but I usually have to play around with the wireless settings for a bit after I first boot to get it to work.  I also uninstalled access connections, but it didn't really help.  I'm going to reformat with a clean install of windows next week to see if that helps.  I'm also hoping that it helps my startup time, because right now, it takes a few solid minutes of intense hard drive activity before it dies down and the computer performs like it should.  In general, I love the ThinkPad, but thats pretty pathetic for a brand new computer if you ask me.

Hello all, We have an issue with a T500 which is intermittently losing the network connection. It will jump to a 'limited connectivity' state. Please note, this machine is connected to a business environment. This issue has been occurring since the systemboard was replaced.  Various tests have been done to find the cause of this issue, such as: - Connecting laptop (w/o docking) to a different UTP socket and using a different cable- Updating the NIC drivers to the latest version - Deleting the user profile- Having someone else logging on to the machine. The issue persists in all these cases. The following drivers were chosen to install on the machine: Intel PRO/1000 LAN Adapter Software (32-bit Windows)7vrv22ww_v32.exe This did not provide a solution.Due to the fact the issue started after the motherboard was replaced - I've asked the user to install CPU-Z on the machine and it states the following details on the board: - Lenovo 20564RG - Chipset Intel GM45/GM47- Southbridge Intel 82801IM (ICH9-M) BIOS:Brand: LenovoVersion: 6FET92WW (3.22)Date: 12/14/2011 Either the NIC is defective or the incorrect drivers are installed, still. Could this mainboard not exactly match the T500 type? If so - is there someone who can provide me with correct drivers, or help solving this issue? Thanks in advance. Kind Regards,Ajay  Update: I've verified that the mainboard is identical.. it's most likely ... Read more

Answer:Intermittent network connection on T500 after having systemboard replaced

Hello Boskalis! Welcome to the Support Forums!

I looked up the specifications for the T500 2056-4RG, you should have a Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN. If Vista is still the OS that is running on the machine It looks like this should be the correct driver for you:

Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg)6mwv22ww.exe  74.08 MB

Here is the link for the driver specifications,

If you are using a different OS you can find the correct Intel wireless networking driver here.

I found it using the T500 Driver Matrix. However, I sometimes find using the ThinkVantage System Update tool easier than looking over the Driver Matrix. Or even the Intel Driver Update Utility.

Let me know if this driver did the trick!

I bought a T500 two months ago with Windows Vista and since then I have two frequent problems. 1) The Battery is not charging up properly. It charges sometimes.2) Wireless connection is getting dropped off very often. I called Customer Service 3 times . They once replaced the battery , But still the problem persists. I believe they have least knowledgable people in Customer Service. I dont know how they are serving corporate customers.  The Customer service representative offered me strange suggestions like rebooting the machine 11 times (Dont know how they got the number 11).They could not resolve the problem after 3 calls. So I am going to try updating all the drives and see if it helps. If not I will need to request for a refund.I was really happy with my earlier Dell Latitude D620 . I regret my decision to go with the Lenovo... Any one had similar experience ??

Answer:T500 Wireless Connection/Power problem and Worst Customer Service

In regards to the battery, it is normal for the battery to not charge when the charge level >= 97%. This is to lengthen the battery's lifespan. (Leaving the battery continuously charged at 100% will accelerate the aging process of the Li-Ion battery, making the battery lose charge faster if it were kept at a lower charge level) If the battery fails to charge at lower charge intervals, I would suggest that you look at your power manager settings and make sure they are set correctly. (Otherwise it might be a battery issue like you suggested) About the wireless card, that is a very common, yet strange issue amongst the T400/T500. Although I have not experienced any issues with my WLAN (I do have problems with WWAN) - I suggest that you acquire the latest drivers directly from Intel. (suppose that you have an Intel card) And regarding customer service, I can totally second with you on that. I was quite disappointed when I first called Lenovo, thinking that I would receive the superior "business/corporate class" customer service, but only to get calls answered by reps who have no idea on what they are dealing with. (Every time I call I have to be "esculated" to a supervisor, be promised that I would receive a callback from them since they are on the other line with another customer - just to be ignored and no callbacks afterwards) To further disappointment, it seems that the reps also do not know their products very well. Many of them doesn't even know what a GPS is a... Read more

My T500 is currently being used as a desktop replacement.   So it is plugged into an AC outlet all the time. My question is how to best preserve the battery life and capacity of a 9-cell..  Detach the battery, will the AC power it while battery is detached? It would be slightly more convenient to leave the battery attached... Is the laptop powered solely by the AC while plugged in, so the battery's life would not be affected? Any other ideas?

i've heard detaching it helps a lot since it reduces a lot of the heat. also i've heard of people detaching it and storing it in the refrigerator but honestly i don't think thats necessary. just keep the battery charged about...i believe it is 50 percent...and in a cool area.  there is an excellent article on batteries somewhere, i'll have to search for it later

Hi All, I'm using: T500 2081-CTO My LCD is broken and I'm trying to discover which LCD replacement screen I need. I've checked Lenovo Website here:https://support.lenovo.com/il/en/documents/pd003315 They give me 3 options: 42T058942T058742T0586 I want to make sure that I'll buy a screen that will fit my laptop. How can I be sure which module do I need and how can I verify that the screen will fit ok? I will appreciate any help. Thank you! M.

Answer:Which LCD Do I need? T500 Please help.

There are many choices. The "CTO" means configured to order, so you can have different things. There are 3 different screen resolutions 1280X800, 1680X1050 and 1920X1200. In addition, there are multiple vendors that supplied parts. Each has a different part number. In addition, the basic (1280X800) screen came with either a CCFL backlight or an LED backlight. The LED screens use different cables and other parts. First, see what you have. (use the option to display pars as-built)http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/partsLookup.page

Is this that T61 drive w/XP and apps that you installed in the T500? T61 Migration to T500

That could cause a variety of issus, but for starters, your drive space is getting a little tight.  Have you run a disk cleanup and defrag?  That might help.

Better yet, clone that little drive to the 160G from the T500 - or some other larger drive.  If it's a disk space issue, that shouldl help.

Question: T500 dim LCD

My T500 (22428QU) has a very dim lcd on startup (works fine on ext. monitor). Changed LCD panel and LED controller card with same result. HMM states next step is the sysstem board, but what specifically on the mainboard would cause this condition? Thanks

Answer:T500 dim LCD

Blown fuse. On that model, if I remember correctly, there is a larger 2 or 3 amp fuse near the right end of the LCD connector. There is a smaller .5 amp fuse next to the LCD connector on the side nearer to the CPU at right angles to the connector. You need fairly good equipment to change them. a temperature-controlled rework station and a quartz preheater would be the minimum. It is not a job for a radio shack soldering iron

hello everyone,I had a T500 which model is 20564QU. My laptop has 4GB DDR3 ram. So I am confused if I can change my recovery partition from vista 32 bit to win 7 64 bit or not ? If not, can I order the recovery DVD from lenovo to make the recovery partition with win 7 64 bit inside ? And can you tell me how to make the recovery partition with win 7 inside? thank you very much

Answer:Need help for my T500

Hi smalldrganvt, You can't alter recovery partition of Win Vista 32-bit to Win 7 64-bit. Further, you also can't order recovery DVD for Win 64-bit if your T500 is entitled to use Win Vista. If you were eligible for Win 7 upgrade then you will only receive 32-bit version of Win 7 given that you purchased your T500 with 32-bit version of Vista. Lastly, recovery partition can only be formed with recovery discs. Hope it helps.

Question: Getting A T500

Hi All,And just found this forum so I joined. Lots of good stuff here I may need. Needed an extra laptop and although I've used Dell Latitudes for years and was planning on getting another.... I sprung for a Lenovo T500. Everything I've read tells me it is solid and good for my usage which is mainly Word, internet, and researching. I've read the keyboard is excellent for typing too. I'm not a power user. I do usually keep my laptop on 12 hours a day, everyday and it usually sleeps 2 hours during that time. And it's on a cooling tray with a big fan. Any heat problems with these at all? Are there any basic do's and don'ts with the T500 specific to it? If not I'll probably have some questions when I get it next week. It has no OS and I'll install Windows 7, though it has a Vista Business COA....I like 7 better. Much. Any advice or good T500 threads please point me there,  Cheers, Jack

Hi, I have my eyes on this SSD from OCZ:http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/flash_drives/ocz_core_series_v2_sata_ii_2_5-ssdBut the shop here in Denmark where I purchased the T500 says that I have to contact Lenovo to be sure that it fits with my laptop.Does anyone here know for sure that it fits? -- (I will post answer to xpost (#17): http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=354566&page=2)

Answer:Can I use this OCZ SSD with my T500?

It will work but it will not be faster than the HDD that comes with the T500 IMO.    The Core series are old news.  The latest Apex and Vertex SSD drives are much better.  The Apex drives are quite affordable and if you follow the tweaks on OCZ's forum as well as align the drive you'll see a very nice improvement.  They run quite hot for some reason though.  The Vertex 120Gb drives cost a bit more ($480USD if you look around) but may well knock Intel off their throne once they ship this week based on early reviews. You may want to check out the OCZ forum for lots of good tips about optimizing your system for SSD http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=186Message Edited by thinkpad4me on 02-20-2009 10:44 AM

Answer:T500 Q

Welcome to the forum: 1. It freezes when you move due to the fact that the harddrive's APS protection is activated, where movement cause the computer to park the head of the harddrive to prevent the head crashing into the HDD platter during fall. You can deactivate or make it less sensitive in the Thinkvantage software under Active Protection System. 2. You can do so in the BIOS, if you use Vista you can switch it in OS 3. Not too sure, try Fn + F5 and see whether this option is listed. 4 & 5. Did you order WWAN and Wireless USB option for your laptop???? Did you also have wimax option configured???

Question: T500 HDD Upgrade

Hi, I have a T500 2242-35U, with a 7200RPM 160 GB Hitachi HDD. I would like to upgrade it to something larger, but when I spoke to a Lenovo support representative, he said I can only install a HDD that is up to 320 GB (according to the data in his system). This doesn't seem right. How can I check the compatibility of a given HDD with my T500? For example, will the Western Digital Scorpio Black (500 GB, WD5000BEKT) be compatible? I'd really appreciate any help with this issue! Thanks

I can't find anything on the warranty for the T500, using http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LOOK-IWS#sw (International warranty service (IWS)). Since it seems that I'll have to travel for longer periods abroad for my new job, I am looking for a computer with IWS. The new T500 got my attention as a successor of the T61, but as far as I know/can find it has no IWS.Is this planned to change in the near future or can I update it,...? If not, what are your suggestions or is there any other solution? Thanks for your answer!

Answer:Warranty T500, IWS available?

Judging from the numerous errors for the new ThinkPads on the Lenovo website, I would assume that they have yet to update the IWS portion of the site. Keep checking back. I am sure that they will get to it soon!

I hate to say this, but when I got my t500, I was really disappointed.  The quality of the system was great, but I could not go a day without having it freeze or crash on me, right out of the box, and it took me around 3 to 4 minutes just to boot, which was pretty often...  Even though I ran windows and system update, I just could not get it to work right.  (I got the system in November of 2008 so it was still a very new product.) Finally, I got it workable 6 months later or so, by manually downloading all my drivers, and installing them fresh again.  I would still have it not wake from sleep ocasionally, but the system was stable in use.. I recently upgraded to windows 7, and I can not tell you how much faster, and more stable this thing is... If anyone is still on the fence about upgrading their t series laptop, don't be.  It was the single best thing I have done so far. My t500 vista boot times were 3 min, after bios tweaks, which was still slower than my 5 year old gateway laptop with a 4200 rpm hard drive and xp, but now with windows 7 and my t500, it is about 1.5 minutes.  (I call a boot when I can get a browser open.)   I cut my boot in half, the system is more responsive, and has woke up from sleep every time. Thanks Lenovo, for all the work you have been doing on getting the drivers right this go around!

Question: T500 is lagging

Hello, I am having troubles with my T500. When I attempt to play a movie or a video game, the computer starts lagging badly. This occurs in most games, regardless of how old the game is or how low I set the video settings. Turning off audio actually seems to help, but on the other hand, it could just because the lag is easier to notice with audio. It occasionally also occurs to a lesser degree when working with heavy applications, such as Adobe CS4. I have tried updating my audio and video driver, as well as updating codecs (K-Lite). I am on WinXP. The video card is the ATI Radeon HD 3650. I hope you can help me! ~ Nix

Answer:T500 GPS problem

since the GPS and the 3G features are integrated into the same WWAN card, if you are having hardware problems with both, then it would indicate a problem with either the antennas connection or the card.So try to take off the palmrest and keyboard, then check the WWAN card to see whether it is seated properly and wires are connected properly.

Question: Buy T500 in India

I'm from India. I want to buy T500 but it is not available in India's lenovo site. It have only T400 with some specific configuration. Is there any way I can buy it from US. And I'm an IBM employee.

Answer:Buy T500 in India

it is obviously more preferable to buy laptops from USA since it is a lot cheaper than overseas, but the problem arises in terms of shipping, since you registered your location in USA, i guess you can get them to ship to it to your address in USA. But before you decide to buy it from USA and then take it to India, it is advisable that during purchase you note down the four character model number and see whether you are eligible for international in India. International warranty follows the laptop model number. International warranty service (IWS) you can check the IWS eligibility when you know the model number of the laptop. Also, for international warranty outside the country of purchase, the warranty available for most machines are the most basic offered in that country, which usually carry in depot warranty. For exact warranty eligibility you should call the country you are going to when you get the laptop.

Why not just use the 160GB 7,200RPM hard disk drive that came with the T500 as the OS drive, and install whatever apps you want and move your data over from the old T61?  It may take a little longer, but you'll have a clean factory OS install, plus just the apps you want/need installed.

I would recommend against overclocking any component of a laptop computer.  I don't really think they are designed for that kind of thermal load, except for exotic gaming models, perhaps.

Hello! For last 2 days my T500 won't hibernate (I usually do by pressing fn+F12) -- enters hibernating process, there is a short beep and "sleep" led is blinking. And when everything stops (leds off) immediately beeps, led's blink and coputer is resumning -- and I'm back at login panel. It doesn't matter if its running on battery or AC power, if is on WiFi or wired nor have any USB stuff plugged (keys, mouse, ...). Any advice? Thanks,b.

Answer:T500 won't hibernate

Update -- it seems my laptop has problem entering sleep/hibernate while connected to wired or wireless network. Unplugging cable and/or switching wifi off helps. Still have no idea, what caused sudden change

After reading about the incredible performance benefit of an SSD, I'd like to upgrade my T500. Ideally, I'd like to keep my WD Scorpio Black by using the Ultrabay caddy. It will most likely be a 60GB drive for the OS and programs. I'd appreciate some help with the following: Is there any difference which drive goes where - does it matter which one goes into the ultrabay? Are there any limitations in choosing an SSD? Will any 2.5 inch SSD work with the T500?What should I take into consideration when choosing an SSD?Also, those of you who have made the HDD SSD upgrade, I'd love to hear your experiences - is the performance increase significant? Thanks a lot!

Answer:T500 HDD to SSD Upgrade

Most SSDs will work. My current recommendation is the Samsung 830 series. The performance increase is amazing. Its like going from a bicycle to supercar. Its also addictive, at some point you'll want all of your data on one and be thinking about how to save up for a model large enough.  My feeling is that after you have the capacity that meets your needs should consider(1) compatibility (what good is it if it won't work in your system);(2) reliability (what good is it if it fails);(3) warranty (these things are expensive, and you might like to have one for 3-5yrs);(4) power draw (some are power hogs)(5) speed (all current gen SSDs are super fast, and the T500 won't be able to take advantage of the faster ones out there);(6) what comes in the box (they normally come either as a bare drive, desktop kit (cloning software, mounting brackets, screws), or laptop kit (cloning software, SATA to USB cable for cloning ease). Some are known to have less compatibility issues. Some are faster than others, and you can't really take advantage of the fastest ones in the T500, but they fallback to slightly slower (and still super fast) operation gracefully.  It seems to have good reliability and compatibility. I recommend staying away from OCZ, as I've heard of too many nightmares with them. While I used to the like Intel 320 series, they had some issues when first introduced into the market, Intel claimed they were fixed, and now those issues seem to be popping up ag... Read more

Question: UPDATE LCD T500

Hallo Guys... Im Idam From Bogor Indonesia. I Have ThinkPad T500 2055-RY4. I think the LCD for T500 can be updated or not ...? Do your friends help how to LCD 1280x800 resolution to bigger ...? I m Newbi....

Answer:UPDATE LCD T500

It can be updated unless by just replacing the panel unless you have one of the few 1280X800 screens with LED backlight. If you have the normal CCFL screen, you can put in any of the higher resolution panels from a T500 or a W500.  If you have an LED backlight, I THINK you can put in a higher resolution CCFL panel if you replace the LED control board with an inverter, but I have never done it myself.

Question: T500 won't wake up

I see this problem mentioned in earlier threads but there does not seem to be any solution that I have found. Once in awhile, My T500 simply won't wake up after I close the lid for a bit. I open it up, and it just sits there - power light is on, wireless indicators on, but that's it. I have to shut it down and restart to get it going. F4 hibernate key does nothing. Ideas?

Hi Guys, I want to buy 4GB memory to my T500 2242. Currently it's equipped in 3GB RAM, so I plan to replace 1GB card with new 4GB, thu sresulting in 6GB RAM total. According to Kingston configurator, the right and tested 4GB memory module for T500 is KTL-TP1066/4G (http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/partsinfo.asp?root=&LinkBack=&ktcpartno=KTL-TP1066/... ). Unfortunately at this moment I cannot find a single shop in Poland having this particular module on stock. There is another one available: KVR1066D3S7/4G, which seems to have everything which is needed: Non-ECC 1066MHz 204-pin Unbuffered SODIMM (DDR3, 1.5V, CL7, FBGA, Gold), datasheet here. The problem is, however, that there is no detailed specification of KTL-TP1066/4G on Kingston's web, so I cannot make deep comparison. Should I be aware of any problems buying the non-dedicated KVR1066D3S7/4G module, especially when used with factory installed 2GB (no idea what it is, speccy says only: RAM        Memory slots            Total memory slots    2            Used memory slots    2            Free memory slots    0        Memory            Type    DDR3     &nbs... Hi all, I have a T500 that is in use with a docking station and 2 graphic adapters: - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (Driver: 8.752.4.0 -> Provider: ATI Technologies Inc. )- Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Driver: 8.752.4.0 -> Provider: ATI Technologies Inc.???) Now I want to run my system with the laptop monitor and additional two monitors. But it doesn't work anymore until I've reinstalled my operating system (Win 7 64 bit). I'm only able to use the laptop monitor and one additional. Am I using the wrong drivers? Perhaps the given driver for my Mobile Intel... from ATI Technologies Inc. is the wrong one?! I just wondered when I saw it's provided by ATI. By the way: When I installed the ATI driver software I only installed the driver, but not the control center because I had problemsn with multi-monitoring when I used control center before I reinstalled my system. Hopefully you can help me.Thanks and best wishes,Dirk

Answer:T500 with 2 monitors?

IIRC, the T500 can only drive a total of two monitors, which can be two external ones, or one external + the laptop one.

Answer:T500 migrate from win 7 32-bit to 64-bit

What is your machine model no. ?Lenovo would only send you the discs if your machine is eligible for warranty in your current country. Even if you are eligible for the recovery media you would still have to pay the postage and handling cost, which is around 50 usd equivalent. The cheaper and some what easier way of making the switch is to actually download the windows 7 64 bit iso from the web and the. Proceed to do the switch (the windows serial no works with either 64 bit or 32 bit flavor of win 7). Just google the 'notebookreview windows 7 iso'. You won't have the recovery partition with this installation method, but it is a cost effective alternative.

Question: T500 15.4" display

I recently purchased a T500 15.4inch.  There are a few things I need help with.  The font size is quite small and faint on a bright white screen.  How can I adjust the font size?  I have tried to adjust the font size by going to Desktop, Display Properties, Appearance.  It is set at Normal. (Large and Extra Large are too large).  Also, on the Appearance tab I clicked Advanced, but I am not able to adjust the Font size as the selection is grayed out. Regarding the bright screen....I feel like I need sunglasses! :-) Colors are very washed out and the font very pale. I have adjusted the brightness by chosing FN/Home key.  While that does null the shine, it just makes everything grey/blue. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Sally

I want to buy a T500 today and I am having a very difficult time making up my mind when it comes to the hard drive. I don't really have the money to upgrade to an SSD, but I would rather be a little more in debt if it is hands down a far superior choice.  I will choose either the 128Gb SSD, the 320GB HDD (7200RPM 0r 5400). From the research I have done, the things I am most concerned about when it comes to the SSD are drive life, time degredation, and the quality of the drive itself. I am unclear how much of a difference an upgrade like this will produce. I would really appreciate hearing any and all advice. I want to get this things done so I can stop agonizing. Thanks.

Answer:T500 SSD vs HDD (new purchase)

A good SSD would definitely be very beneficial to a laptop. I have a T500 myself, I have upgraded the harddrive to a 120GB OCZ Vertex. Whether if it's benchmarks or normal day use, I can tell you that it is a LOT faster than any traditional laptop harddrive I have a Seagate 7200.4 myself. Whether you should upgrade the harddrive depends on what you do with ur laptop, because SSDs are still very expensive these days. If you travel a lot SSD will help a lot since it is not affected by shock, SSDs will also make your thinkpad dead silent. With regard to the 128GB SSD lenovo offers, it is a samung SSD, personally I would not recommend you to buy this SSD, you will not notice much performance gain from the traditional harddrive, because the samsung SSD lenovo offers is a bit old, and is slow only 90MB/s read and 70MB/s write. A good SSD would be the OCZ Vertex or if you have the money Intel X-25M. The OCZ Vertex with the newest firmware 1.4 already supports TRIM, which will cure the drive degradation problem, the Intel X25-M drive will also support TRIM in the coming month. With regards to drive life, the expected life for a SSD will be at least 10 years, by then i'm sure you would have upgraded to a new computer anyway.

Question: T500 Blue Tab

Hi, I just got my T500. Just out of the box. Just installed battery. There is a small blue tab with a picture of an odd shaped box and two arrows, one pointing in, and one pointing out, with a white thing, plate-like, on top of it, located in the battery compartment just below the contacts for the battery in a small pocket. It seems like it might be a tab protecting contact points or something. I did not pull it, just left it in. Called Lenovo, they could not tell me what it is or if I should pull it. Does anyone know about it? Thanks,Chez

Answer:T500 Blue Tab

Chezrobin, welcome to the forum, please leave it alone as you have done. The tab is to help remove an UMTS SIM card from it's slot. In systems equipped with UMTS you can slip the SIM card in as shown on the funny little diagram. Hope this helps.

I'm not familiar with UBCD so no help there  If you have the Lenovo apps installed, you can use Rescue and Recovery to image your machine.  Another alternative would be Acronis True Image Home.   You can download a trial version and make an image, but I don't think you can make the bootable restore tools without actually buying a copy. Z.

Question: T500 Upgrade

I recently acquired a T500 (2082-3HU) that I intend to max out (within reason) and am unaware as to what the limit is to reasonable running heat processor-wise. Would a T9900 work, or is it better to go for the lower-TDP, slightly lower-speed P9700? I'm unlikely to use either to its full extent, I mostly don't know whether it's worth the extra heat and power consumption (and cost) for that extra 260MHz of speed. Also, will 1333MHz memory work properly (at reduced clock) or will it cause problems? It's exactly the same as the memory found in some other (later) models that do support that clock, just not Lenovo-sourced.

Question: T500 not charging

Hello all,I've had a problem with my Thinkpad T500. I plug in my laptop, and it does not charge. Currently, it is at 13%- it does not decrease in percentage, but it doesn't increase, either. If I take out the battery, my computer still works, so I've isolated it to the battery's fault. I've tried restarting and resetting my battery (it just stops and doesn't charge), and nothing seems to work. This happened about a month ago, and somehow it started charging again, but I forgot how I did that... Has anyone else had this problem before? I'd really rather find a solution than get a new battery- mine is relatively new, a little over one year old. Thanks all!

Answer:T500 not charging

I have the same problem. Changed batteries, changed power adapters, used a docking station instead of AC adapter, reinstalled the OS and still experiencing the problem. Hello all, I am working on a T500 (2242CTO) that needs the cpu cooling fan assembly replaced.  The FRU is 42X5114.  I looked all over Lenovo's website and found no reference to parts.  I also called a local Lenovo Authorized repair center and they said they couldn't get that part direct from Lenovo and would have to go through a 3rd party vendor.  If that's the case I may as well do that myself and not pay them a markup, but where should I go?  I found a couple of websites when I googled the FRU but most of them had a nondescript product with no picture and some other reference number that I can't crosscheck to make sure I'm buying the right thing. Can anybody help?

Does this mean i need to get something else in order for it to work?

I know it's probably not a very good idea.... I have a T500 bought 4 years ago with P8600 3M 2.40GHz 1066MHz FSB cpu. Now I happen to get a FF80576T9300 t9300 6M 2.50GHz 800MHz FSB cpu. I wonder if is possible to replace P8600 with T9300? If it is possible, will the lapto have a better performance? It's confusing to me because the official datasheet of T500 does not list t9300 as an option but the specs of the two cpu looks very similar. t9300 has a minor advantage in speed and a doubled L2. But it's FSB actually slower than P8600. I wonder if it is worth or not to replace P8600 with t9300. Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated!

This machine currently has a Hitachi HTS543216L9SA00 Lenovo P/N 42T1102 Hitachi P/N 0A57303 160GB 5400 RPM SATA drive. SMART tests indicate imminent failure and strange anomolies occur in the OS. In looking for a replacement drive I can locate exact replacements but the price is relatively extravagant considering for the same money I could get a considerably better drive in performance and capacity. However, on an older R52 machine I had the misfortune of installing a replacement drive that differed by a single digit in the Mfr P/N (had the same model number) and that machine to this day cannot boot without user intervention because of a BIOS supplied warning that the drive may not work in the system  despite the fact that it has worked just fine in that system for about 8 years now. The user must press ESC to continue booting. So, the question is do I have to source an exact part number replacement for this machine? Can I source any interface compatible drive I like? If not, what restrictions are in place such that I can install a drive and expect no complaints from the system? TIA.

I found color adjustment under Control Panel,  Appearance, Display, Calibrate Color but the adjustment doesn't doesn't stick and after reboot it's back to blue again. I have the Intel X4500 integrated graphics, I see mention on here of an Intel control panel should I be adjusting there instead? If so where do I find it?

Answer:T500 Color (again)

This very problem is driving me nuts!  Did you ever find a solution? Thanks! Ostate

Hi,     I own a Lenovo t500 laptop about 6 years old. There has been an intermittent loud grinding noise from the upper left side of the keyboard.       I have done quite a bit of research and have narrowed it down to a fan issue. I am now ready to open the laptop and try to lubricate the fan. (I have the right tools, oil, info, etc.)     My question is:     From the diagrams and photos I've seen, there seems to be a black circle in the center of the fan with 3 depressed holes .     Is this a cap? Is it removable? How exactly do you get to the bearings or shaft?     I want to be careful about this because the fan has a lot of delicate parts and I don't want to take the chance of damaging them.     Anybody have any advice on this or lubricating the fan in general? Thanks,Sayers
