TrackPoint clicks on its own

Question: TrackPoint clicks on its own

For the past week or two it seems that the mouse clicks on its own on my T420. This is in TrackPoint only mode (TouchPad disabled) with press to select disabled. This issue is reproducible as it generally happens right after a normal click or unclick. For example, if I highlight text in a word processor by clicking and dragging my cursor over the text when I release the button the system registers a phantom click within the next second or so. I also have noticed these phantom clicks after middle clickling. Does this sound like a possible driver issue or should I go ahead and call to have a tech come out and replace parts?

Preferred Solution: TrackPoint clicks on its own

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: TrackPoint clicks on its own

@nibs,Try uninstalling UltraNav, reboot the laptop then install it back and see if it helps. If problem persist then I guess its time to contact the techs.

T40 Details:2373-92U I've been having this problem with my trackpoint and ultranav mice for quite some time - it seems that only the left button generates any response by the OS, and that response is most often a "right click."  The actual right button is unresponsive.  I've tried the option under "control panel -> mouse -> button configuration -> switch primary and secondary buttons"  whether checked or unchecked, the left button still has the same behavior.  Occasionally, the left button will stop working entirely within a window - apparently the best way to resolve this is to use the left button to click anywhere on the desktop: the context menu appears, and after using the left button to click on any item within the context window the left button will once again become responsive in all windows (although it will still act like the right button when clicking). External USB mice and Bluetooth mice do not have this problem - those mice respond properly to left/right clicks. My best guess is that the keyboard unit (08k4957 or 08k4986) needs to be replaced, however I'm hoping there's a more definitive test I can perform before shelling out the $$ for a new keyboard unit.  I say this because the ultranav mousepad also has the same problem and I see it plugs into a separate location within the laptop - is there another common component within the laptop that could cause common failure between the two built-in mice? Thank... try download the latest ultraNav and trackpoint drivers. If cannot solve, then it could be other issues that cause it.

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)? Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Hi, I got an S230u Twist last autumn and have been really happy with it. At the time, I ordered a set of replacement rubber TrackPoint caps. When I replaced the original cap the other day, I realised that the replacement ones are about 0.5mm shorter than the original one, with the result that the H and G keys get caught on the edge of the cap; you have to hit them quite hard to get them to work. I compared all the new caps from the packet against the original one, and sure enough; they're all a little too short. They fit, but it's annoying to have to go back and make sure all my ""G"s and "H"s typed correctly.  Has anyone else had the same problem? Lenovo, could this just have been a bad batch, and if so can I return the unused ones for a replacement set that is the correct height?

Answer:S230u - replacement trackpoint TrackPoint caps are too short

If you bought them from Lenovo I'd just try and return them. If not dispute on eBay/PayPal/Credit Card. But never use poor quality TrackPoint Caps. Remember if a computer is running efficiently so is the person behind it generally.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

Question: Trackpoint cap

I'm not sure if this is the place I'm supposed to post this. I absolutely hate the trackpoint when I type.  I type quite fast and I hit the trackpoint every once in a while -- but this is enough to really get on my nerves.  It's absolutely distracting.  Imagine typing out your thoughts then all of a sudden you hit the thing, get distracted, then irritated, and your thoughts gone.  ThinkPads are supposed to help you think.  The trackpoint unfortunately doesnt...  Are there a replacement tips that's depressed enough (and maybe colored black...) so that I dont hit it accidentally when I type?  Removing the tip works fine -- but it looks so ugly without it (makes it look like i'm using a broken equipment). Oh and I dont mind if the replacement cap will render the trackpoint unusable.  I just need it low enough so I dont accidentally hit it.

Answer:Trackpoint cap
these are the three different types of trackpoint caps. You might get lucky with the first type and there is no black trackpoint caps produced by Lenovo.
You can disable the trackpoint by pressing Fn + F8 in windows and then select trackpad only. You can also disable trackpoint from BIOS menu.

Question: Trackpoint gone...

I did the usual "Windows update" this morning. After the installation had completed I noticed that my Trackpoint has "disappeared"! There is no reaction whatsoever when pressing the red dot and I can't control the mouse with it any more. I then checked in the control panel (no trace) and then had to learn, that it doesn't even exist in the device manager, either. I then rebooted, no change. I then even powered off and reboot from power off again, still no trackpoint! And after I downloaded the trackpoint driver from the Lenovo drivers download site and wanted to (re-)install the driver, I got an error message "this driver can not be installed on non-trackpoint systems". ?!? What? What the %@[email protected]#*%?  Where has my trackpoint gone??? How come, that it has completely disappeared? How do I get this thing working again? Edited: I later noticed, that a part of that Windows Update apparently was a new "Wacom Two Finger Touch" driver. Might that have to do with my disappeared Trackpoint? Michael PS.: Boy - is this annoying to have to work without Trackpoint!

Answer:Trackpoint gone...

I just had to learn that there is a Fn-key (F8) that allows to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad. I must have accidentally operated that button without noticing (in fact, I hadn't even known before that there IS such an option...).Its setting was on "Touchpad only". After re-enabling the trackpoint there everything came back to normal. Wheew. What a relieve! :-) And it (most probably) had nothing to do with the Windows Update - just an unlucky conincidence! Michael

Question: Too many clicks

I am running Windows 7 pro x64. I am currently experiencing a problem where it takes three clicks to open a program from my desktop if another window has focus . One click to take focus to the desktop then the double clicks to open the app. I'm using a wired Logitech mouse and I'm using the set point software. I have two other installs of windows 7 pro x64 that do not do this. Google hasn't helped at all. Anyone have any ideas?

Question: BT web clicks

Has anyone used bt webclicks? I signed up to them at £80per month as they are supposed to take all the time optimising google adwords off your back and they also guarantee a certain number of click throughs per year or your money back. It sounds like a win win deal. However I just got my report back for last month and received no click throughs at all - and this is traditionally the month for peak enquiries in my business [wedding catering and marquees]. They are obviously under bidding because key words are probably too expensive at this time of year.I find the whole business very fishy. I should be interested to hear of other readers experiences.

I've signed up on OUGOs and a number of other surf-for-clicks websites, but it doesn't generate enough clicks!

There's three days left, and I'm getting really desperate..

Do you have any ideas?

Answer:How do I get clicks?

Sadly if you want click through too your site then its hard and tech forums or any forum are not likely to use your link as we do not know you or your site or click through so generally will not use it for security purposes.

We do not know and it maybe safe but is this link malware or gain the user spam? it may not but you have to think of this if you post a link on a forum as a new member.

After just a few months of usage, my W510's TrackPoint cap came loose. I ordered a three-part TrackPoint cap collection on eBay. Alas, the caps don't fit.
No surprise if you look at this photo of a non-W-series keyboard with the cap removed. The TrackPoint post in my W-series ThinkPad is yellow rather than black and significantly smaller:
Link to picture
Also, the W-series is prominently absent from the list of supported models in Lenovo's specs of the replacement caps.
Anyone know if replacement caps for the W-series are available?
Also, how would I attach the cap? Just pushing it back didn't really do it for my original cap, it kept coming loose.

some of the cap collection on ebay is fake. The W510 uses the same keyboard as mine T400s, and the real Lenovo trackpoint from T60 fits the T400s keyboard perfectly.

Question: Trackpoint Issues

Hi, Just recently my trackpoint in my T61 stopped responding after having a little water in my keyboard near the left function and shift keys.  Attempting to fix the problem, I went to the mouse settings to make sure it was enabled, however the Trackpoint section was grayed out and the enabled box was unchecked. I also checked the BIOS settings and both the Trackpoint and touch pad are set to automatic. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Ultranav driver and utility. Is there anything else I should do to fix the problem? The amount of water that got into the keyboard did not look like it was much and evaporated pretty quickly, so I am not sure if this is just a coincidence or it is related to the water being in the keyboard.  I also tried tried the Trackpoint with a Ubuntu Live CD, but it did not work in Ubuntu either. Thanks

OK, T60 Notebook and suddenly the TrackPoint and TouchPad stopped working.  I checked under the ThinkVantage tools and they are enabled.  I checked in the BIOS and the device(s) are enabled there as well.  I've had a TouchPad go bad before but the TrackPoint still worked.  Kinda strange both would go down at the same time.  So, in short: 1.  Has anyone out there experienced this and if so, how did you fix it?2.  Does anyone have the part number for a replacement TouchPad (I've searched the site and could find dang near everything else, but the TouchPad) TIA!

Answer:TouchPad and TrackPoint

They're integrated parts of the palm rest. A cable connects all integrated parts of the palm rest to the machine. So I guess the cable isn't plugged in firmly enough. Remove the palm rest according to the hardware manual and check. If the cable has no problem, contact Lenovo to ask for a replacement palm rest.

Answer:Trackpoint speed

Open 'Control Panel > Mouse'.
Open the 'ThinkPad' or 'ThinkPad UltraNav' tab.
At the top next to 'Pointing Options', click 'Advanced'
In the 'General' tab, you will see 'TrackPoint pointing speed', adjust the slider,

Depending on which Ultranav version you have installed the steps may be slightly different, but they should be roughly the same.

yeah i have that problem, and i have a friend with the same problem. its just because the rubber doesnt stay seated right on the piece is sitting on, if you push on it too hard. thats my guess, but i could be wrong. i notice if i dont push on the rubber part very hard it keeps that from happening. for some reason i always push straight down on the rubber piece and thats when it does it the most.

I've been using Lenovo laptops for the last 10 years because of my preference for the trackpoint.  However, I recently purchased a P40 yoga and the trackpoint middle button scrolling is horrendous.  It takes 5 or 6 seconds before it starts scrolling.  Also, when you press the middle button, the cursor does not change to the scroll cursor.  Please help me fix this as I am very unhappy that my brand new computer does not work as well as my other (3 really old) Lenovo laptops.

Is there any way to use the trackpoint on Lenovo computers as a joystick?  I.e. a device that would be useful for a flight simulator?  Essentially, it wouldn't be moving the mouse along a line based on the direction you're pushing it in with a speed based on your finger pressure,  but rather moving the mouse to a stationary position on the screen based on the direction and pressure you're pushing on it with.

I'm using a Lenovo T61-8890 A24. It's a pretty old model but has been upgraded to be able to support Win 7 Ultimate 32bit.
I currently am facing a similar issue. In the BIOS, both my trackpoint and touchpad is detected and set to Automatic.
If I remove the entire palm rest and touchpad panel, I'm able to get the trackpoint to work, however once the touchpad is connected, the trackpoint just stops working.
I tried to enable it on the Ultranav program but it just doesn't work.
I tried the mouse properties and the trackpoint function is greyed out as shown below.
Link to image 1
When I went into the device manager, the trackpoint is not detected.
Link to image 2
I tried installing all versions of Ultranav, tried BIOS updates, tried cleaning the connectors, and still can't get the trackpoint to work together with the touchpad.
Any advice to this issue is greatly appreciated.

Answer:T61 - can't enable TrackPoint

Hi Dyna, Welcome to the forum. When you say Trackpoint doesn't work, do you mean:1. That trackpoint itself is not workingor 2. The left click, right click and scroll buttons associated with the trackpoint doesn't work. ========Also, you did not mention whether your trackpad works or not. Finally, what happens when you disable the trackpad in the BIOS menu? Does that affect your trackpoint and associated buttons' behaviours?

I have a T60 laptop (purchased Jun 2006) which works great except for the trackpoint.  For the last few months, the trackpoint has not been working.  The touchpad works. Here are the steps I took to troubleshoot - 1.  Updated Ultra NAV driver and Utility software (the latest from lenovo website).  Actually un-installed old version and      re-installed new version2.  Updated the BIOS to the newer version and ensured that Trackpoint/NAV is set to enabled in BIOS3.  Replaced the keyboard (assumed it was a hardware problem).  During replacement, I made sure it was properly      seated to rule out a loose connection.4.  The motherboard was replaced last year (due to a another problem) so I assume it may not be the source of problem I have searched this and other websites but am out of luck.  Appreciate if any one can provide more leads/ideas to fix this.  I am not sure if this is software related. Thanks

When you say the TrackPoint is loose, are you refering to the red cap that covers it?  If so, it's probably just worn out and needs to be replaced.  You can order replacements from Lenovo.  The part number is 73P2698, and here in the US, they're $9.99.  Sometimes they're also available on eBay.

Hi Oshri,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with track point not working in your Lenovo T410 laptop
The Fn-key (F8) allows the to enable/disable Trackpoint and Touchpad.
If the trackpoint is no longer working, this may be a good option to check before investigating device manager, updating / reinstalling trackpoint drivers or rebooting as discussed above.
Pressing Fn-F8 brings up the ultranav menu and allows the user to cycle through different trackpoint and touchpad configuration options.
Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

We have an older IBM thinkpad 600x, that my husband uses to play simple off line games and read a few emails. The past few days when booting we are getting the error #08611.
From what I have been able to find I believe that this has something to do with the trackpoint.
We use a wireless mouse with this so do not need the track point. Can someone please tell me how to disable the trackpoint?
I wish a Happy & prosperous 2010 to all.

Question: Choppy Trackpoint

I know I just posted a thread, but I figured that issue is global enough to warranty its own. But this one seems to be specific to me.I'm a new Thinkpad (and trackpoint) user, and the trackpoint is very choppy for me. It seems to skip frames. For example, making a circular motion with the trackpad results in a continuous, smooth motion. But not so with the trackpoint. It seems to be micro-jumping (or skipping frames as I prefer to call it). This is easily noticeable when holding down the middle trackpoint button and attempting to scroll a page. The page does not scroll smoothly at all (has nothing to do with smooth scrolling, that's something else and not what I'm talking about). Now this isn't just with this X220. Before the X220 I briefly owned a x120e that had this EXACT same problem. I asked about it and people told me that is not normal. So I returned it and got this X220, but it's the same problem. The weird thing is that while this choppiness is present in Windows, it was just fine during the Windows install process. I've tried: disabling the trackpad, reducing/increasing trapoint sensetivity, updating drivers, removing drivers and reinstalling, bumping the priority of the driver to high. None helped. What are the chances I'd receive two machines with the same problem?

Answer:Choppy Trackpoint

Disabling the trackpad from the BIOS fixed the issue it seems (its definitely much smoother). Diasbling it within Windows did not help. If I recall correctly disabling the trackpad in the x120e from the BIOS was not an option. Too bad. But odd that others do not have this problem. Oh and my palm was not resting on the trackpad

Question: Trackpoint problem

First of all, sorry if this questions been asked and answered. I've been searching off an on for several weeks for any online help to a trackpoint annoyance I've been having with no luck. I'm on a T61p running XP. (I upgraded the stock Vista, following an online guide). I have the Ultranav utility installed (I can see and change the options for the trackpoint/touchpad in the mouse control panel). Both the trackpoint and touchpad work. However, every once in a while the trackpoint just becomes totally unresponsive and the mouse pointer refuses to respond or move. For like 3-4 seconds. What's odd is that when this happens, the touchpad still works. (I'm trying to move or scroll with the trackpoint / topmost scroll button+trackpoint with now response, but use other finger to test touchpad and that responds.) It's really odd and really annoying. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any advice? Thanks!

Now that the 5th gen Thinkpad is here, the decline of the trackpoint becomes ever clearer.  Frankly, most of us would not be buying Thinkpads if they didn't have the trackpoint.  That's the X1's main advantage.  But Lenovo keeps making it worse.  First, the trackpoint caps that will fit the gen 4 and 5 come in only one, unpopular, variant and you can't get the soft rim version.  But more importantly, Lenovo keeps on degrading the software control of the trackpoint.  It used to be that you could adjust the sensitivity of the trackpoint, making it more or less stiff.  Even the softest setting was inadequate but it was something.  In the 5gen there is no option to change the stiffness or responsiveness of the trackpoint's movements at all.  Lenovo: hear your customers!! Please make the trackpoint MORE not less adjustable.

Hi All,Could someone help me to identify if my trackpoint on the T420S is broken? The images are here,  In the first image, the red trackpoint can easily come out of the fixture on the keyboard. If I take out the red cap, there is a black thing as shown in second image located on key "G."  I try to jam it into the fixture, but did not work out.Should this black thing need to always stay in the fixture? Is it just be glued to the fixture?Should I ask Lenovo for a service? Thanks for your help.

Answer:Is my trackpoint broken?

The images don't work, however, I think I understand.  The Trackpoint is a red rubber cap that just fits on a black plastic post between the G, H, and B keys.  It lifts right off of the black plastic post.  The post is a permanent part of the keyboard.  The "eraser" head is user replaceable when necessary. The underside of the Trackpoint "eraser" is hollowed out to fit over the black post.  It is snug, but does not require "jamming."  When in place, does it work?

Question: Choppy Trackpoint

Hello, Got x120e the other day and I have one question: This is my first Thinkpad (and first time witha trackpoint) - the trackpoint moves kind of choppy. It's not smooth movements like with the trackpad, as if it's missing frames or something. It's still perfectly useable but seems odd. Is this normal?

Answer:Choppy Trackpoint

No, it's not normal.  Mine moves as smooth as the touchpad (if not smoother) and responds to how much I move the stick.  Have you looked into the UltraNav Properties field of the trackpoint?  I'll leave this up to the experts to help you here.  This is my first Lenovo product too. But I'll like to comment that I wish the trackpoint would be at positions where your fingers will be while holding the machine.  The middle position works fine for a bigger laptop, but this is an ultraportable. Remember the IBM PalmTopPC110? And the Toshiba Libretto: Some models' trackpoints are even located at behind the screen (i.e. on the lid).PalmTopPC110

I recently got a Thinkpad T420.  One of my favorite features is the nub, but for the past few days the nub has been impossible to use.  It will click things randomly and rapidly and also freezes and shakes the mouse.  Once I deactivate trackpoint it works fine, but it's one of my favorite features. I just bought the computer two weeks ago so I can't imagine the keyboard breaking already. Is it a software problem or something?

I have a Thinkpad R400 with Windows 7 installed. Question: x230 trackpoint

Hey,sometimes when I move my pointer somwhere and then release trackpoint the pointer goes a little bit backwards. Can it be fixed?Regards

Answer:x230 trackpoint

TrackPoint drift has been happening as long as I can remember, at least back to the X31.  Release the trackpoint, and it may drift towards the top left.  If you let it drift, it stops after a few seconds and after that works properly.  At least for me this happens infrequently enough so as not to be a big deal.

Just couple days ago, my TrackPoint started to get weird. It started to move extremely fast on certain direction, and even I set to the lowest sensitivity, it still move extremely fast. Basically I have no control of the track point anymore. I tried to plug in a notebook mouse with trackpoint turned on, I still can't move my mouse. I have to disable the trackpoint. I even tried to replace the red cap but still no use. Does anyone have this problem and know how to fix this? Thanks.

E420S, Cannot get either to work. Cannot enable trackpoint or touchpad in UltraNav.

Answer:Trackpoint and Touchpad

Hi, ezedoh
The first thing I would recommend is the removal of the UltraNav driver from the system. This is best accomplished by using an external mouse to navigate the system. To uninstall the UltraNav driver, open the Start menu and type Device Managerinto the Search box, and then press Enter. Once here, double click on Mouse and other pointing devices, and then right-click on the UltraNav device. Naviage to the Driver tab and select Uninstall... from the bottom of the window. Follow the prompts to uninstall and then restart when prompted by Windows. Windows should install a generic driver for controlling the mouse. This should reinstate the touchpad to working order. If not, then continue using an external mouse for now.
Once the UltraNav driver has been removed, I would recommend trying to use the standard Synaptics driver found here. Synaptics is the company that develops the UltraNav software, so there should be no loss of compatibility/features. I have witnessed several cases where this driver has helped others with mouse issues, so it may help yours as well.
Hope it helps,

Unfortunately not knowing what I know now, I ran ComboFix without any guidance. At this point the computer does run a few programs and I can get on the internet.

Motion Tablet PC with a USB optical mouse. The thing will click just sitting there. You don't even have to touch it. Sometimes right-click, sometimes left click. I have tried three other mice and they all do the same thing. Even the touchpad mouse does it, but worse. It just started this recently and no new hardware or software has been installed. A/V scans daily with Symantec Corporate. Ideas?

Answer:mouse clicks by itself

I have never heard of this before; very strange. The thing that strikes me is that it has happened with other mice plus the touchpad mouse. Therefore they can be ruled out.

Have you attempted to update USB drivers or chipset drivers? Something is corrupted.

For about the past two days, my mouse has been sporadically right clicking on it's own, and the left click has sometimes been acting as both at the same time. This issue isn't linked to a single mouse or USB port, as it happened with a new mouse I bought to replace the old one. Attempts to update the drivers via the device manager, or uninstalling the drivers and restarting my computer have met with zero success. I've run a full system scan with Avast Antivirus, nothing turned up.

Question: Annoying Clicks

I am getting Annoying Clicks from my pc speaker, (Not my ext speaks) on start-up. Also whenever i click display properties/ F1 for help on my desktop. I am also crashing far too often since hearing those clicks. Yes I have just installed a new Aopen FX5600 card, but that surly isnt the prob, Is it? Any ideas please?

Answer:Annoying Clicks

Hi Sealer, I think that this is most likely caused by the installation of the new graphics card, or rather the drivers. The clicking is almost certainly caused by a resource conflict. Have a look at the Aopen web site and see if there are any updated drivers.

I couldn't CTRL+ALT+DEL or get to the desktop before I blue screened with a 0x000000F4 error.

Any recommendations I can take to troubleshoot this issue? The eventviewer has no information other than "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

I'm so lost. I have two desktop computers and a laptop. One is used only by my in-laws. Today, August 6th, around 8pm that desktop computer turned off while my father in law was playing a game(bejeweled, he bought the game, it wasn't downloaded). It would not turn back on. I had to unplug it for a few seconds, then plug in again. Only then would it restart. However, before it would finish loading windows Xp Home, it would turn off. Not shut down, but click off as if I were holding the power button. I tried restarting in safemode, it immediately clicked off. I tried several all other modes trying to get to the point of a system restore or debugging/windows control systems. However, it always clicked off. In one mode (I believe it was the windows controller mode) it would tell me there was some strange problem, a punch of c++ jargon I don't understand. It would give me 3 options. abort, retry, ignore. All 3 led to the computer clicking off. With retry it clicked off right away. Ignoring the box or clicking the other 2 options would make it click off anywhere from 10-15 seconds later. I just don't have enough time to do anything.

Please Help!

In time I hope to give more info(ie: the specific wording off the c++ jargon), but for now this is all I know.

Extra info: when the computer starts it goes through that whole check thing. Every time it runs it finds news things wrong and truncates them. Or it will say a volume size is incorrect. So many different file... Read more

My computer now actions about 10 commands and then freezes. I have gone into msconfig and start up and noted all the programs that do not need to fire up on start up. I have also gone into task manager and noted that there are up to 90 processes that are running on start up. What I now dont know what to do is how to remove the programs from start up and task manager?? I also note that there are 9 svchost.exe in the task manager processes...surely not all of these are legit? I dont know how to find out which is which and where! Hello!I have something that is causing random pop ups in IE though I use Mozilla. Whatever it is also keeps activating Windows Installer and tries to load (or upgrade?) When using the scroll wheel button to close tabs in firefox, it sometimes clicks twice and closes two, it also does this when I click a link with it sometimes and opens the link twice, so I guess it could happen with anything.. I originally thought it was just a problem with my other wired mouse as I never had this issue with the wireless mice I used (Which both had their receivers break.. ) but today I bought a new wired mouse (Being a bit fed up with the wireless ones..) that has the same issue the other wired one has, maybe I'm just unlucky. Is there something that can cause the middle scroll button to click twice sometimes? I'm using Windows XP Home Service Pack 3

Answer:Mouse sometimes clicks twice..

Question: Camera Clicks?!

Ok, so I'm relatively self sufficient with computers, and I solve most problems myself, but this one's got me totally stumped.  I also consulted some of my computer-buff friends, but they were all left clueless as well.  Well, here's the problem - my computer spontaneously (Usually several hours after boot) starts making these odd clicking noises that oddly resemble a camera click...  These clicks continue until I reboot the computer... Then, it spontaneously starts again - the cycle continues.  I was wondering if anybody can help me with this problem...  If it helps, here's some basic information about my computer -P4 2.4GHz, 512MB RAM, XP Pro SP2, on 802.11b network, use CA EZ Armor antivirus/firewall.

Answer:Camera Clicks?!

Try this... Unplug ALL wires going to your computer... Next, open the case over a TILE floor on a table (usually the case is held by crews or clips) ... Next, ground the electricity from your body by touching the inner metal frame of your computer... Next, look at your computer's fan, and make sure that it is not only clean, but that nothing is stuck inside, which is making this "clicking" noise... (a wire, etc.)  Keep in touch...[glb]Flame[/glb]

Hi, I did a reinstall on my family's pc 6 weeks ago, and use Avira as antivirus and firewall, with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware installed and used occasionally; pc has one admin. and one limited account, with Avira blocking the limited account from downloading/viewing various websites. 2 weeks ago I changed the Avira setting on the limited account and forgot to switch it back when I was finished and went away for the week. When I returned my son had downloaded some things (a game program) and seems to have infected the pc.

Specific problems: 1. using Facebook (only my wife on the admin. account uses it) when a link is clicked pop-ups appear; this was limited to Facebook but today I noted that pop-ups appeared when clicking links on as well.
2. pc screen switches off quite frequently (but not all the time - hasn't happened today).

I followed the instructions of Read & Run Me EXCEPT:
I ran ccleaner on limited account but forgot to run it on the admin. account until after running RogueKiller; I then ran it (I had run it the day before on both accounts).
I ran MGtools with Avira on. After it ran I turned Avira off and ran MGtools again.

All the installing and running of scans went well with no problems.

After running all, the pop-up problem persists.

I hope all is in order and done correctly! Thanks in advance

Not true. It has 3 admin user accounts.

Users on this computer:
Is Admin? | Username
Yes | Administrator
Yes | Juliana
Yes | Rowan
Your logs were from the Juliana account. Is this the one having problems? Or does the other account have the problem? Or both?

With which browser or browsers are you having problems?

And what popups exactly are you referring too? Your logs are basically clean.

Question: short cut clicks

I'm having issues with the shortcut options in browsers. I'm using Opera to browse. Now when I click on a tab I have up, it automatically closes it out instead of switching to that tab. Also when I use my scroll wheel to move up and down the page, it will back me "back page" or "forward Page" instead of just move up and down a webpage. This is a standard 2 button 1 wheel mouse.

Answer:short cut clicks

if you have default IE whats it do with that browser
if it works
try a opera reload save your pref files first

Question: clicks and beeps?

Hey everyone, this is my first post.

The problem (not really a problem, but a curiosity) happens with my computer only at night (around midnight for some reason). This happens both when i'm working on the pc or just have it idleing. A pair of clicking sounds and a beep eminate from my tower. The clicks don't neceseraly sound like clicks, but more like when the floppy drive is reading a disk; and the beep comes from the motherboard, just like the startup beep in startup.

I'd really like to know what that means, and why is it so constant with the time it occurs?

-Carlos M.

Answer:clicks and beeps?

We seem to have a lot of possessed sytems recently. Look in Scheduled Tasks and see if anything is set to run around midnight.

My mouse has recently started being a pain. I click to scroll down on the side of the page, and if I don't move my mouse away quickly, it will continue to scroll the page down. It's like I just click once, and then a second later, it will click about 4 times more. I looked through the mouse settings, but couldn't find anything that would cause this. Anyone had this problem before?

Answer:Mouse clicks more than once...

What kind of mouse is it? Sometimes if mine acts up, I turn it over, pop the ball out, and clean out any dust in there.

I'm not sure if this is hardware or software, but I got a new computer and when it boots up, the monitor clicks on as usual, then before it's done booting, the monitor clicks off and on again around three times. When I first got the computer about 3 months ago, it only happened once in a while when booting, but now it's all the time.

I never have any trouble in games (I do car racing simulations), but it seems that the monitor blinks off and on about 1/4 of the times that I switch from one already open application to another.

I think that it's not the monitor because I run my older computer occasionally, using the same monitor and there's nothing happening like this.

Mobo - ASUS A8N-E
CPU - AMD A64 3700+
HD =- Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 300GB
Sound SB X-Fi Xtreme
PSU - Antec TruePower 2 480 Watt
Windows XP Home

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Answer:Monitor clicks on and off

Might be a dodgey graphic card then (or bad drivers).....
Surely though if it's a package computer from a particular company, any peculiarities like this are their responsibility - at least for the first year?

Hi, I've been searching for similar situations for a while, but I haven't found anything so far that relates to my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 600m. I have a dual boot running with Windows 7 RC as the primary and Windows XP as the secondary boot.

Basically what happens is that my computer's HDD will start clicking loudly and rapidly and the computer will freeze. A manual reboot is then necessary. I have waited for as long as 20 minutes or more to see if it will regain stability, but it never does. Sometimes I end up getting a blue dump screen and it will automatically reboot. I originally thought that my HDD was going bad, but it only happens when I'm running Windows 7. If I boot into XP, the HDD never starts clicking and never freezes. I have tried reformatting the Win7 partition and doing a clean install of Windows 7, but it did not fix the problem.

There are certain situations that especially seem to trigger the clicking, but sometimes it just happens randomly. The situations where it always and almost immediately happens are:
1. Running any type of Windows Update. (if it is enabled at all and starts downloading the clicking starts)
2. Running ChkDsk on startup. (The clicking starts when Verifying the USN Journals, and it never finishes the check)

Other information:
I had to manually add my ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 driver as it wasn't on the Windows 7 supported drivers list.
I have tried a couple of HDD checking software programs which have said tha... Read more

I have a Dell Inspiron 530.

I needed to retrieve something from my old PC and in the process moved some of the connections in the back to the old PC and then back to the Inspiron. I believe I put them back exactly as they had been, but now my PC keeps on clicking like a second hand on a wall clock, but a bit faster. It is not loud, but definitely audible. I turned it off completely and restarted it, but the click came right back.

Please help.
