I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I two have this same problem but the only thing I have not tried yet is using the dvi port on the side of the laptop as well as using the two on docking station . it might work but I don't know I have not tried yet but I have found that with all the thinkpads I have used it is the same always one blank and two working I think that's just the way it is . it might be possible if you have lenovo approved connectors or some thing like that . Hi folks, I use my T410 as a workstation mostly, I've made a small shelf on runners under my work desk on which I place the laptop, attach cables, and slide it under the desk out the way.  Downside - I can't fit a docking station under there! Is it possible to attach two monitors via the one DisplayPort without the docking station?  There seem to be various third party adapters to supposedly allow this, has anyone tried with the T410? I'm thinking one 1920x1200 24 inch in landscape and one 17 inch 720p in portrait as a document viewer.

Answer:2 monitors on T410 without docking station?

I believe the official answer is no on the 2 monitors attached to one DP. Even if you could attach both, I believe the maximum resolution of the DP is limited to 2560x1600. So, you would exceed the DP's resolution limit with those 2 monitors.

However if all you are using the 720p monitor is as a document viewer, you should be able to use one of the USB display adapters. It won't have as high of a frame rate (not important for document viewing) and can tax the processor a little bit.

So I've wanted a dock for a while now, and my friend has an older 4337 dock. After some testing, I've found that while the 90w doesn't charge my W530 when it's docked, the USB ports and video output work properly while my laptop is docked. My question is, can I purchase a 135w power adapter, connect it to the dock, and be able to charge my W530 with it too? I would use my 170w, but the barrel is keyed and I'd rather not mess with it. What do you think? Should I buy a 135w to use with this dock? Should I just buy another 170w to use with this? Also, where can I buy a cheap power supply? I've been checking ebay, which seems to be the best place to buy them that I've found.

Answer:W530 and the 4337 Docking Station

Any 170W adapter will be keyed or won't fit. (The one from W700/W701 isn't keyed, but it is a different diameter and has no center pin) I think the 135W is the best choice.

Hello, I currently aquired a Lenovo Docking Station for my T510. My problem is that none of the USB ports seem to be working. In device manager, USB Root Hub appears, but when I plug in a device, for example a keyboard, I get a message that the USB device was not recognized. However, if I plug the keyboard into the laptop directly, it works fine. I know that this has been discussed on this forum befor and I have browsed many threads about it, but have not found a solution to the problem. I have tried restarting my laptop on and off the dock, unplugging and replugging the dock, Disabling and Enabling the USB Root Hub, and my BIOS is up to date (V1.52). I have found most threads to have trouble with the USB3.0 ports, however all 6 ports on my dock are USB2.0. However, I did see that the USB2.0 ports may need a driver that is available in a download for USB3.0 ports? I was unsure about that solution. Let me know if any more information would be helpfull. Thank you for your time and help.

Hello, I am happy with my T520 - i7 Quad core andI would like to buy a docking station for home. I am going to connect only one monitor to this dock. I understand the differencies between 4337 and 4338 models, but actually I use 4337 dock with two monitors and 90 W adapter from one year and I have no problems. After readigng ThinkWiki and some posts I understand that I have to use 4338 model. Unless it is working I am okay, but I am confused about the preformance. Do you guys think that there may be issues with performance  doe to the lower than recommended power supplying. Thank you!

Good Morning All,  Our company have recently upgraded to all T410 laptops out clients.  We are running into a huge problem with some users having problems when they go to redock there laptop there mouse and keyboard no longer respond but if they plug the mouse and keyboard directly it works fine.   They steps I have taken so far are updating the bios, changing out the docking stations 2x, change out the mouse and keyboard (brand new IBM mouse/keyboard).  No other USB device is connected to the docking station just the basic peripherals.   Thanks, Domenic

Answer:T410 Docking Station issues?

Hi Domenic,Did you sort out your problems with the T410 docking station? I had similar problems (USB, monitor etc), and it turned out to be imperative to use the provided power supply of the docking station (delivers 90W instead of the laptop power supply, which is only 65W).This sorted out all the issues for me! So, even if the laptop power supply has the same connector, the docking station seems to require its native power supply. Hope this helps! Brgds Peter, CSC, Denmark

Answer:Will a docking station for the T410 work on the T430u?

T430u doesn't use any physical docking station. It uses the ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock (a usb dock), which supports 2 external LCD in addition to the 3 LCD that the T430u supports.

I bought a T410 about a year ago and it's worked well. However I just recently bought a docking station and ever since then my thinkpad has crashed more then 10 times. It doesn't happen right away, it seems pretty random but it may be related to heat. I've got Ubuntu 9.10 running and I've installed lmsensors to monitor the cpu heat. I'm getting an idle temp of about 68 degrees C and under heavy load it averages between 75-82 degrees C but I've seen it get up to 90 degrees C. Is this too hot? It the docking not allowing the heat to escape? What can I do?

Answer:T410/Docking station random crashes

The average load temps sound fine.90 is when it starts getting hot. They will usually shut down around 100. If you think it's heat realted does it shut off only when doing processor intensive work?  Or can you leave it sit by itself and it will crash? What about when your out of the docking station? Everything works fine off the dock? What are your temps like then?

So I have a broken screen on a T410 (running Windows 7). It's completely my fault (I tripped over the power cord and knocked it off a shelf at a customer site), but corporate IT is being extremely slow about replacing it. However, my office is taking forever to get it replaced and I'm having some issues with the docking station and external monitor. I usually put it in suspend, but the display does not come out of suspend in a consistent fashion. Occasionally it will be on the extermal monitor to start with but more often I have to hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and then hope that I am entering my account information properly and that I am able to log in.Then I press Fn-F7 and guess as to the proper place to click the mouse in order to get the display on the external monitor. My biggest annoyance is that the Fn-F7 key combination doesn't work until I'm logged in. On previous Thinkpads (generally with WIndows XP instead of Windows 7), I could hit the appropriate key combination and the display would move from external monitor to LCD regardless of the state of the LCD. Right now that makes a lot of sense to me. Is there any way I can get the old behaviour back?

I have a T410 that has a custom WinXP Pro + SP3 image. When the user restarts their laptop docked in a mini series 3 docking station, the laptop displays the Thinkpad welcome screen and then goes blank. There is a monitor connected to the docking station by a VGA cable. It does not matter whether the laptop is closed or not the same issue arises. When I remove the remove the laptop off the docking station the screen is still blank. I have tried Fn+F7 with the laptop in the docking station and when it is off and still no joy. I have replaced the docking station and even used a VGA cable and still experience the same result. I have gone into the BIOS Settings and changed the Display configurations to Analog (VGA), Digital 1 on dock, Digital 2 on dock, and Digital on Thinkpad. None of these changes made a difference. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Also if you update through system update, please only install the bios update alone, NOT together with other updates. ThanksMichael

Hi All I am currently looking for a laptop stand that i can use with a docking station for a T410. What i wanted to order, was something along the lines of this product: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Adjustable_Notebook_Stand The buying department at my company tell me that this product is at end of life, and have offered me an alternative which is the Essential Notebook Stand, which is no good to us as we need the docking station to fit too. So i guess my question is this: Is there an alternatative to this product that allows docking stations to be attached also? Or am i wasting my time? Thanks in advance

Answer:T410 Stand with Docking station compatibility.

seems like you are wasting your time.....Lenovo in their infinite wisdom have decided that you can either use a docking station or a stand, but not both! How ridiculous is that? I'm instead buying T400's that are still in stock (for a great price) and trying to source a docking station and stand from somewhere else as my supplier tells me they dont have any in stock and are unlikely to get more.I think it is very poor that lenovo have removed this option....why would I want a stand that I coudnt dock with? This is a deal breaker for me, and I will be looking at other brands from now on due to this.

Hi, I owe a T410(2516) running Windows 8 with Samsung 830 SSD.Recently, I purchased the mini dock plus series 3 and currently I hooked 3 different monitors up and running. (DVI and DisplayPort from the dock station, DisplayPort from Laptop itself)I have CPU-Z running all the time observing real-time CPU speed. My windows power setting is set to "balanced".When I use just the laptop, I see that my CPU speed easily reaches 3.0GHz.However, when I'm using the mini dock with 3 monitors connected, I only see 1.2GHz of CPU speed. Is this because of the too many peripherals connecte to the mini dock??Does anyone have any suggestions?? If this is a problem that cannot be fixed, I'm considering buying a desktop. Thanks a lot in advance.

I have a T410 which I use with two different docking stations. Historically I've had to wait up to a minute while the computer "finds" the keyboard and mouse after I move it from one dock to the other.  Sometimes I have to open the laptop and log in on the built-in keyboard to make it straighten itself out.

Now even opening the laptop doesn't help. To use the attached keyboard and mouse I actually have to restart Windows. (Entering and leaving hibernation doesn't help either.)

I thought I could fix this by ensuring that each device is plugged into the same USB connector on each dock. I reasoned that if the computer goes to sleep on one dock and wakes up on the other, and finds a keyboard and mouse at the same physical locations as before, it won't know anything has happened. Wrong. That didn't help at all.

I can kind of understand the problem with the mouse, becasue one is wired and the other is wireless. They probably use different drivers. But a keyboard is a keyboard is a keyboard, isn't it? Apart from non-standard features that require a specific driver, the computer literally shouldn't know the difference between one dock's keyboard and the other's. But it does.

This situation makes the docks useless to me. The whole point of using a dock is to avoid having to plug and unplug a half dozen cables every time I move the computer; but the inconvenience of doing that is dwarfed by the need to restart the computer every time I move it.

Hello, I have a T410 (2518-Q7G) purchased in early November 2010. To the best of my knowledge this variant just has the Nvidia NVS3100 GPU (512MB), non-switchable graphics. It seems that I just missed out on Optimus - unfortunately. I would now like to purchase the mini dock 3 plus and connect two monitors, both with a resolution of 1920x1200. The plus version of the mini dock has two sets of DVI and DP connectors. Despite 'googling" this question on several occasions, I have been unable to confirm whether you are able to use both sets of displayport connections at the same time, or one monitor has to be connected via DP and the other via DVI? I realise that connecting two external displays would blank my Thinkpad display as I do not have Optimus. Any advice is much appreciated.

Answer:T410 - docking station/external monitor question

you can use both DP at the same time, but your internal LCD will be switched off.

Hey guys, just purchased some speakers for my laptop docking station and I've noticed a bit of a feedback issue. When I put the speaker input into the dock station I can hear some feedback or static coming from them even though nothings is being used on the laptop. However if I plug the speaker input into the actual laptop (T410) its whisper quiet, I've also tried this with two different pairs of head phones with the same problem. The input wire from the speaker (or headphones) are in contact with other USB wires and the power cord going to the docking station (when I tested docking station output and laptop output). Is there a problem with my docking station? Thanks

Answer:Speaker feedback noise from docking station output (T410)

some docking station do that, you probably need to call Lenovo and get it exchanged if you cant stand the static. This is one reason why i don't use the dock's headphone jack when i listen to music.

I recently upgraded my T410 from Windows 7 64 bit to Windows 10 64 bit.  My Series 3 docking station worked great under Windows 7.  However, it is NOT functioning properly with my upgrade to Windows 10 64 bit. I see the BIOS startup as I did before under Windows 7, but then I see a black screen with only the cursor.  I can move the cursor on the black screen but the screen NEVER changes from black.  I am have the Intel integrated graphics with driver version 8.15.10.2900 dated 11/26/2012. In advance I appreciate the assistance as I can't work at my desk with my 24" monitor!

Is there a way to allow the T410 system to wake up by moving or clicking a USB mouse that is connected through a docking station? I am aware of the power settings available from device manager that allow a USB device to be used to wake up a system. However the problem is that the Docking Station USB ports lose connectivity with the T410 when it goes to sleep. Any fix or update from Lenovo to bypass this? The T410 is running Windows 7 Corporate 32 bit. and it is docked on a 4337 model mini dock. Answer:T410 wake up via USB mouse / Keyboard connected through docking station.

There is no way to do this (wake up PC when docked with an external keyboard or mouse, as was possible with previous ThinkPads).  It is a feature that has been deemed unnecessary and removed from recent ThinkPad docks.  Please see the following document. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht077684

My company has been deploying T410's for some time now. One employee started complaining about the second monitor and mouse losing connection for a quick moment if someone would accidentally bump the desk. Also by pressing down on the laptop cover above the keyboard, between the blue lenovo button and the power button, the same would happen. I checked other T410's in the office and 2 out of 4 would show the same behavior. Any idea?

Answer:T410 docking station issue - VGA external monitor flashes.

Having tested this bit more it is always the VGA screen that flashes when I touch the laptop while it is docked. I was able to reproduce this on three seperate docking stations. The odd thing is that when trying to reproduce the problem in another building I am unable to see the screen flash. Could there be any environment factors at work, static charge or something?

So at work I just received a new t420 2 monitors and a docking station.  I took it home the first night then came in and expecting the display settings to be as they were.  The problem is the scaling goes to Maintain Display Scaling and I want it to default to Scale Full ScreenI created a profile thinking it would recognize the profile while being docked.  Is there any solutions to this, other than every morning loading that profile?  As a side note in my company we are deploying these t420's right now and a lot of people are going to start having this issue and its my job as the IT deployment tech to make sure this is taken care of sooner than later.

Answer:t420 - 2 Monitors - Docking Station

hey gunmetal,as the company of yours is deploying the T420's , is it installed with specific company-typed software ? It might be the reason.Anyway, try testing the unit with one monitor without the docking station and then unit+1monitor+docking station.also run the same test after uninstaling the video driver and letting windows install its generic video driver.

If I remember correctly, you have the Intel-graphics-chip, and the docking/chip-combo does not support the dual-monitor setup via both VGA + DVI. You should be able to get image on the laptop-screen and the DVI output, I think?

Answer:How to connect Three Monitors with docking station.

Hi Dan_Oracle,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

The laptop VGA port will not work once it is docked, you can use ?Display Port? or ?HDMI?.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I am looking to purchase an XPS 15, 16GB RAM and 4k touch model.
I want to use this laptop with one (maybe two at a later stage) external monitors. I am considering purchasing monitors that are 4K, although I may opt for FHD instead. Ideally I am looking for a docking station that connects to the thunderbolt USBC port, and that gives me USB ports, Ethernet, and display outputs.
However, I haven't been able to have any luck (in the UK) at finding this. Why? Because I can't find anything that will allow me to output to two 4k monitors at 60hz frequency.
The closest thing I found was this, and I don't know if it will work especially since the monitors I am looking at don't have displayport:
However with this I can't use it like the docking station as it only does the displayport and not the Ethernet and USB, so I would have to get separate adapaters and separately charge the laptop - very messy and time consuming every time I want to use the laptop away from home to unplug everything!
Please can someone advise me on a good docking station that supports two 4k monitors at 60hz in the UK?

I work from home and all the equipment I have was provided by my company.  I have an HP ultra slim docking station which my HP laptop is connected to.  Also connected to the docking station is a mouse, keyboard, and two HP EliteDisplay E190i monitors.  Since hooking everything, I keep losing my screen.  What I mean by that is they keep going black and when they come back on, the screen distored and there is an error message at the bottom of the screen.  I can't recall the exact message because it disappears pretty quickly but it basically says that the graphics was lost.  I assume this has something to do with running three screens on the docking station (the laptop, and two monitors).  Is this right?  If so, how do I fix it?  I lose time everytime it happens becuase I usually have to reboot the system to get rid of the distortion.  Please note:  I have called my IT and they aren't too much help.

I have been using a T60 (1951-A31) with a full docking station (2505) with both video ports in use.  It worked fine. I have since upgraded to a T400 (6474-U11).  Physically it fits and powers up with no issue.  Originally it contained two 1Gb So-Dimm sticks of ram (PC3-8500s).  I have since tried to upgrade the ram to a stick of 2Gb and a stick of 4Gb (PC3-10600).  If I leave a single stick in place I have no problems.  when I try to include 2 sticks of the new ram, I get a horizontal "shredding" effect on the back ground, the icons, and any windows I open.  I atempted to use one new and one original memory stick but ended up with the same problem. I have tried using a second identical docking station, but with the same results.  I can confirm that the T60 has no issues with either docking station.  The T400, by itself, with a monitor connected to the VGA port on the side has no video issues.  I have done a remove/reinstall of the video drivers.  I am one version back on the BIOS with no way of upgrading until I get a replacement battery. Would anyone have a suggestion on how to clean this up, other than sticking to a single stick of ram? Thanks, butterball

For some reason windows isn't recognizing my two monitors i have connected to my HP NZ223AA 230W Advanced Docking Station. I'm using Windows7 64bit on an HP EliteBook 8560w with an AMD FirePro m5950 graphics card.  As near as i can tell the docking station allows both DVI ports to be used as well as the grahpics card is good for multiple monitors. Does anyone know if it's possible to connect a third monitor?  In other words I would like to have my laptop connected to a docking station and then have two other monitors for a total of three. Thanks,

I have a new docking station connected to a new thinkpad P50. I can get the dual monitors to work fine (Display port). I changed the power settings so the external screens stay on with the lid closed. The only thing is the display settings show two monitors (1\2) (3). The display on the laptop ois shared, not independent. As a result, If I want to change the resolution on the laptop so It can be easily read, the second monitor also changes. I updated the quadro M2000m driver with the same results. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I recently purchased a T500 and the advanced docking station combination because I wanted to be able to run to external monitors at the same time as the notebooks display (3 total displays). I was told by the sales team that this was exactly what the docking station would do. Well, call me an idiot, I can't get the system to run more than one external monitor while in the docking station. I have read where you can add on another ATI graphics card (x1300 I believe), but all refrences to that card are for earlier models of Thinkpads. So, the lack of good setup information shipped with the dock, and the total lack of support through the Lenovo support telephone numbers - leaves me frustrated. Does anyone know, can I drive two external monitors AND the notebooks display simultaneously (sp?) using the connections on the docking station? Thank you in advance for your assistance! Jeff

Answer:can't use 2 external monitors with docking station / L512

you can't have 3 LCD on at the same time using this configuration, the only way to get the third monitors to work, is if you get a Vidock or usb2dvi/usb2vga adapter.

Greetings all!I've got a question regarding dual monitors on either X61 or X300. The Ultrabase has only one VGA port and no DVI. Can I use the VGA port on the laptop and the Ultrabase at the same time? I've been unable to set up this configuration with the Presentation Director. I want to use two 20" widescreen monitors so that I can use the  Extended Desktop setting, i.e. separete views on each monitor.I've looked into the matter before, but came up empty handed. I considered using a VGA splitter, for example Matrox DualHead2Go, but in order to run two montors at 1680x1050 resolution it requires the the graphics controller supports Dual Link DVI, which the X61 does not, if I'm not mistaken.Anyone got an idea of how to use two monitors at 1680x1050 with an X61 and an Ultrabase? If push comes to shove, I might consider the X300, but I'd like to be certain that it can handle a dual display.Cheers!RegardsBob Lydan

Answer:Dual monitors on X61 or X300 with docking station?

with the X61, the VGA port on the left of the machine is disabled when plugged into the ultrabase.with the X300, dual monitors can be driven by both the VGA port on the back and by the external USB dock.   keep in mind that the maximum supported resolution over the dock is 1400x1050.

Display Adapters:  I have AMD Radeon HD 8790M and Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 installed.
When I try to use the 4th monitor it says "Disconnect this display". If i select extended display, some other monitor goes blank. Meaning, I can only see one laptop monitor and any other two monitor.
I guess it is not supporting 3 monitors. Can you point me on what am I missing?

I have a Latitude E7470, connected to my D3100 dock via USB3. I have a Dell E2317H Monitor connected to the D3100 via DP. Works fine having it setup as my main display and extending to my laptop. The problem is the Laptop and or the D3100 are not recognizing the 2 other E2317H Monitors that are connected to the 2 HDMI ports with HDMI to DP cables. The OS kind of detects the monitors but will not push video to them. I have tried every which way I can think of with the OS and the Display Link software and have no joy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows settings to extend screen to both monitors works fine until I undock then redock.  Then the Intel Graphics settings seem to override the WIndows display settings and only one monitor works until reset using the windows 7 screen resolution to detect and extend again.  When the Intel display app is opened from the system tray, the multiple monitors tool is only showing one of the 2 monitors connected.

I am currently working with an EliteBook 8570w on a 90w docking station.  I have one external monitor and the laptop lid open for a second, smaller monitor.  I would like to connect a second external monitor and continue using the laptop with the lid open for email.  I can't find a definitive answer on whether or not this is possible and what is the best setup to achieve the desired end result.  The external monitor right now is connected to the VGA port.  The second monitor has both VGA and DVI ports so I could go either way with the cord or an adapter that would work the best.  Is it best to connect the second monitor to the DVI or DisplayPort on the docking station?  Which setup, if any, would allow me to keep the 2 external displays and the laptop monitor open? Thank you in advance.

Answer:HP 90w docking station supporting dual monitors

Hi, Thanks for joining the Forums today! While using your 8570w monitor, when connected to a docking station (we tested this using an advanced docking station ) there are two valid setups to get three independent screens. You could connect two extra monitors through DVI or just one monitor through DVI and another through Display port. This is using the advanced docking station. If one of your monitors is VGA it still should work the same as above. Here is a link to a picture of an adaptor you can use to connect via Display port: http://img.misco.eu/resources/images/products//100/HWP/FH/FH973AT/FH973AT_6_1600x1600.jpg Let us know if you need further assistance.  Thank you,

Hi,

I have a Tecra M5 with docking station, in the past with other laptops I have been able to plug one monitor in using the analogue port and another with the digital and used them both with the screen down.

This doesn't seem possible on this new one, I have options to run a monitor with the laptop screen or with a TV but not two separate monitors together.

Has anyone else been able to get this to work if so how? Graphix is the NVIDIA Quadro NVS btw.

Thanks,

Answer:Tecra M5: Dual monitors with docking station?

Hello

It is very interesting but as far as I know this is not possible. I am not 100% sure but for something like that you must have special graphic card that supports something like that.

The same situation is with my Tecra. But idea with two external displays is not bad. :)

Answer:Docking station compatibility with dual DVI monitors

I have multiple users using dual DVI monitors and the docking station. At this time, I have only been able to get them up and running using one as a DVI monitor and the other as VGA.
Another post says to connect both to the DVI output, then manually configure the monitors to the DVI input using the monitors menu system. (Not the "Auto Detect" ), then with both monitors powered up, dock the laptop. I am trying this tomorrow.
Once the dual monitors are up and running, open the windows Display properties, select the NVIDIA tab, go to the NVIDIA console and setup your configuration as desired. Exit the console, then the Windows Display properties, and it should hold the configuration.

I have the T540p with the Ultra docking station and 3 Dell U2415 monitors. Two of them I have daisy chained off of one DisplayPort port. The other I have plugged into the second port. According to the documentation I should be able to run 3 monitors at once. But if I close the laptop lid there doesn't seem to be any way to get all 3 external monitors working at the same time. I tried a bunch of different settings and nothing seems to work. I upgraded to the latest docking station fimware a few weeks ago. Is there any trick to get all three monitors working at the same time? I saw a posting on another site and it seemed like someone else was able to do it but I'm not having any luck. The max I can get running is two running at once (plus the laptop). I've already spent a lot of time on this, I might just buy a USB 3 adapter and get the third monitor running that way unless someone has a better solution. Thanks.

That could be because you are using Windows 7 but is more likely to be because of the video solution your notebook has. With AMD's Radeon Eyefinity there would not be an issue. See the following HP document Updated!http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02948215-6 I know that may not be what you want to hear, but you are likely to be doing the maximum in terms of video output with the notebook's video capabilities. Your notebook has only the Intel HD Graphics 4000.  There are, however, more advanced options available, but they are pretty costly.

Hi all - I could use some help.  I have my Elitebook 1040 in the 2013 Ultraslim docking station with two LG monitors connected through the Display ports.  It's worked great for the past 2 months. All of the sudden, my screen was going black and then after 3 seconds would turn back on (this happened on both LG monitors). After reading other threads, I went an installed the latest version of software for the docking station as that seemed to be the issue.  Well now neither monitor works when I re-dock the computer. Out of the dock, if I connect one, no problem.   Any recommendations on how I fix the doc?

Hi Everyone. I know several people have posted questions here about how to get dual monitors to work on the T400. It seems that the answer gets quickly convoluted depending on the specifics of one's setup. Here's mine:  ThinkPad T400Intel chipsetAdvanced docking stationWindows 7 OS2 ViewSonic 1080p monitors (with both analog and DVI ports)I want to have three distinct image-- in other words, one long desktop, starting with the screen of my laptop which extends across to both of the ViewSonic monitors. At this point I have been able to get one of the monitors working by connecting it to the back of my dock using VGA. The other monitor lights up when I boot-up, but I have been unable to get any image to appear on it.When I go to the Control Panel and look at the screen resolution, I can see both the laptop and monitor #1, but nothing I have tried will make monitor #2 appear. I have tried connecting via DVI to the back of the dock, and VGA by plugging it into the side of my T400.Can someone help? Do I need to buy anything else to make this system work, or is it a setup issue? Many thanks, and happy holidays!Sagar

I believe you can only have two out of three at a time.  Two monitors, or a monitor and the laptop screen.  Try booting with the laptop closed and the two monitors connected, one vga and one dvi and they should both come up.

I have one hooked up DP, one VGA and the other HDMI but the 3rd monitor will not work.
It appears that the Intel 520 supports 3 monitors and from what I read, it looks like the K17A should be able to support 1 analog and 2 digital but I simply cannot get this working.
Anyone have any issues with this, or more importantly a solution?

Morning All,  I've got an Elitebook 2740 which I use mostly on a WA994AV docking station.  My primary monitor is the 12" screen on the laptop and I have a second monitor connected to the docking station which is monitor 2. What I'd like to know (before I purchase a second screen), is if I can buy a VGA splitter, connect that to my docking station and run two external monitors from the docking station.  I find the 12" screen fine when travelling, but when working from home and need to use two screens I constatnly find myself dragging items onto the external monitor to work on due to it's larger size.  If the docking station will support two external monitors (or even 3 with the laptop lid openned) it would make my life a lot easier.  If anyone can tell me if this is posible it'd be great thanks.  ALso, if there's a way top permanently set it so that the external monitor(s) are set to Extend desktop when I start the laptop it would be great. Currently Windows 10 (64 bit) will start with extended desktop, then after about 30-60 seconds it will flip over to duplicating the laptop display onto the external monitor and I have to change the display outputs everytime.

I just received my Latitude 7370 along with a D3100 docking station.
According this article: I should be able to get 2560x1440 on HDMI, I'm stuck at 2560x1080
Running 2 external monitors ( LG-34UC87C-B)
Display port @ 3440x1440 (this works fine for me)
HDMI 1 @ 2560x1440 ( I cannot reach this, I can only get 2560x1080..?)
HDM 2 is not used
Running the HDMI @ 2560x1080 just looks horrible, how can I achive the 2560x1440 that this device states it can handle?
If the D3100 cannot handle what I require does Dell make a Docking station for the 7370 that will handle idealy 3440x1440 x2? either HDMI or DisplayPort.
Thanks

(one to the VGA and the other to the HDMI port). do I need the Nvidia m3100 or some other graphic card to support this? or the internal intel cpu graphic card can handle this? same question above about 3 external monitors...

Answer:t510 dual external monitors without docking station

Yes you should be able to - the docking stations don't add anything in terms of processing power, they only provide more outputs. 2 simultaneous outputs is your maximum though - only Nvidia Optimus-enabled ThinkPads can support more from what I understand. How to do it in Windows 7 is here:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Move-windows-between-multiple-monitors

Can I hook up two monitors using a 2013 ultraslim docking station and if so what type of cables do I need?

Hi, I don't necessesarily need a docking station, but if it only costs a little more than other solutions to drive 2 monitors then I might as well get a docking station. What should I look for?  I see there is a Lenovo part I can get (0A33970) used for $60-$70.Whatever I get I'd want it to be generic enough to use with other laptops I use. The other laptop I'd want to use it with also has a Thundrebolt port if that makes a difference.  But I think I'd rather have a USB3.0 solution since Thunderbolt is Intel only and I can foresee some AMD Ryzen in my future. So that Lenovo 0A33970 is a USB3.0 docking station.  Does anyone know if this would work with other devices than Lenovo?  I'm especially curious about the gigabit ethernet port... is this a real network adapter itself over USB or does it somehow do passthrough to the existing network interface on the laptop? I'm open to non-lenovo solutions as well.

It used to work.  Recently, however, if I reboot the thinkpad in the doc, I lose the two DP external monitors. I.e. the machine boots on internal display, and if I go to windows "screen resolution" I can see the names of the two external monitors greyed out with the wrong resolution. If I do a WINDOWS-P, then extend to the second one, then make the third the "main display", then disable the internal panel, Im back to where I should be.  If I sleep and wakeup, it keeps the arrangement.  If I dock the notebook while running, it automatically jumps to the correct arrangeement (i.e. internal panel off, two external displays extended). Its only if I boot when in in the doc it fails, and I ahve to wait for 5 minutes fo tthe machine to boot, then faf about for another minute to get the displays working.  I have never had this problem with Dell laptops in docking stations with external displays. I dont expect a solution - and I accept im probably the only person who gets this error. The machine cant reboot (I can only shutdown and cold boot) since I enabled password protection for the HD in the bios, so I cant test that.

Answer:W520 Docking station not working with exterma DP monitors

With Optimus enabled, the W520 and other Optimus machines lose their brains on a restart.  This is present in the T420 and the T420S, too. I have just gotten used to doing shutdowns.

Hi All, I have a brand new Elitebook 850g3 (T9X36EA), a HP Slimline dock (D9Y32ET)  and two Dell P2415Qb 24" monitors. My aim is to extend my desktop to the two external Dell monitors  whiclst still viewing the display on the EliteBook. The monitors are DP monitors with MST technology so am able to set one as a primary and one as a secondary. I can achieve my goal simply when the laptop is off the dock (See image)But on the dock I get nowhere with it. I noticed the dock had a firmware update on the drivers page which specifically talks about the DP functionality, but on running the update it tells me I am already running at the latest FW version on the dock. At best, I can extend my desktop to one Dell monitor which duplicates to the other. I know my cabling is setup correctly and that the equipment is ok as it works off the dock, I have been banging my head for a while now, so any help would be really appreciated. ThanksPaul

Quick update..... I have a Displayport to MiniDisplayport cable going from EliteBook to Monitor 1 which is set to MST Primary, and then a Displayort from the out channel on monitor 1 to minidisplayport to monitor 2 which is set to MST Secondary. Cheers!

I have the same problem.  Running a Precision m6500 with docking station and two Monitors. One connected with the display port and the other digital cable.
Randomly the monitors will go blank but the computer remains on.

Answer:Precision m6500, docking station, monitors go blank

Hi BRAD954,
What is the docking station model? What digital cable are you using? And the monitor models? What is the OS installed on the system?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1Mzks6r and reinstall the chipset drivers from the same site.
Download and reinstall the display link drivers for your OS - http://bit.ly/1T8FdoX
If the issue is not resolved, then provide us the event log in your response, for us to review.
If there is a specific docking station, we can provide few other drivers for them.

My company just provided me with a new ThinkPad T440 but they did not provide (and will not provide) a docking station. Is it possible to connect two external ThinkVision monitors? The laptop only has one VGA port and I heard a simple splitter only shows the same image on both screens. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance,Mike

This clients T440 laptop is on a docking station, connected to dual monitors. The first display connection is straight VGA. The second is DVI from the monitor connected to DP adapter to the docking station. The user can't logon without raising the laptop lid and logging on with the laptop open. If closed during boot up, the displays will not come on. I've updated all systems. Updated firmware on docking station. Updated the graphics adapter. Yet, if the user anticipates the boot up process and logs on without seeing what's even on the laptop screen, the monitors will eventually come on after windows loads. Any ideas out there to fix?

I'm working for a company that is currently using a few hundred lenovo laptops, xp sp3. Mostly T60/t61types with docking stations. When I set up the extended display  for 2 external monitors via Presentation Director, I keep getting this presentation director error that you can see here: "if you are using the lenovo enhanced usb port replicator you must choose a display configuration with the notebook lcd as the primary monitor" I have the latest Version of bios and presentation director, I have used system update to get all the latest drivers and dont use usb port repliacator. After I get the error I cant use presentation director to manage displays and must use the driver display settings or windows display. This only happens on maybe 1 in 6-8 laptops that we deploy, is there a known solution for this issue?

I have a w500 with the ATI Mobility FireGL V5700, the mini dock (with one external VGA port) an a KVM that uses VGA ports only. Currently I'm using fairly new external LCD (with VGA & DVI ports) as an external monitor and using the w500 LDC as the 2nd screen. However I'd like to stop using the laptop screen and instead get a 2nd LCD to have two external monitors. Unfortunately I'm having trouble figureing out to to do this and keep utilizing my KVM. Any tips? Open to any suggestions even a new mini dock or new KVM with DVI ports. Ideas?

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad P50 with ThinkPad Workstation Dock. It is now paired with a old monitor and I wan't to invest in a good monitor.  I use it for different task at work, including regular office (word, excel ...), web browsing, digital drawing, photo editing, video editing (both HD and  4K 3840 x 2160) and viewing VR models in Sketchfab.  I'm looking at ThinkVision monitors and I wonder if whether HD, UHD or 4K is the right choice, I would be happy to get recommendations? Is it capable of 4K? If I buy two monitors, do they have to be similar regarding definition and aspect ratio? Specifications:Lenovo Thinkpad P50 Windows 10Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1505M v5 @ 2.80GHz32GB RAM64-bitIntel(R) HD Graphics P530 Regards,Ron

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad P50 - recommendation for monitor (docking station with monitors)

There is no right choice for everyone.  I will say that right now, I am using a ThinkVision X1 (4k) and it looks really good to me.  I really like the sharp text.  The speakers aren't great, which is common for thin monitors.  The viewing angles are good.  I removed the stand and am using a VESA-mounted stand, which I like.

I just bought two LG E2340 Monitors that I want to hook up to my docking station. I have 1 VGA connector and 1 DVI connector. My laptop is a Dell Latitude D630. I have been reading other forums and they say in Display under Settings I can see which monitor is which but it doesnt say VGA or DVI.....
1 says Plug and Play Monitor on Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
and
2 says (Default Monitor) on Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family

But they both slaved to one another, (they are showing a mirror image of each other)

what am i doing wrong?

Answer:Trying to hook up two external monitors to my Dell Pro1x Docking Station

I dont quite understand your setup sorry, you have a laptop (with a screen) that you want to connect 2 more screens to, thus ending up with 3 screens total? if so, Its unusual for a laptop to be able to do that.
Anyway, have you check the box which says "Extend my desktop onto this monitor"? in display properties? if that isnt selected they will just display mirror images like you say.

I still want to be able to use the laptop display too.  Is this possible?  Primary display will be laptop screen, alt will be VGA attached to mini dock, and alt2 will be DVI attached to mini dock.  All seem to work individually, but I cannot see the two external monitors in setup.  THANKS!

Hello, so I purchased the TB15 docking station thinking it would support up to 3 external monitors for the XPS 13, since it has a VGA, HDMI port and Display port mini. I can get 2 external monitors to work, but I can't get 3 to work. I wanted to keep the lid closed and use a 3 external monitor setup. I already purchased the monitors and my desk mount stand for 3 monitors... If the docking station won't work, does anyone know of any alternatives?

Answer:Does TB15 Docking station support 3 external monitors with XPS 13 9350?

The integrated GPU can drive 3 monitors, but that includes the laptop screen. If you disable laptop screen you should be able to get 3 external monitors to work.

Hey everyone.  I have a new T440s witht he Ultra Docking Station base setup with two external monitors via Displayport.  The issue Im running into is that the secondary (or extended) monitor is not displaying correctly.  it's as if there is some sort of interference with the signal and the bottom 3rd of the screen is displaying lines, etc.  I can sometimes get it to work, but most of the times the portion of the screen flashes horizontal lines then reverts to the image you see below.  Also of note, everything was working fine for a week or two when I first got the system, and this started happening gradually over time and got worse. I know it's not the monitor or cables as everything works fine if I only hook up one display at a time.  This only happens using the 2nd display port and using both displays at one.  My main display remains un affected.  Is this a fauly docking station?  A video card drive? Any and all help is truly appreciated!

I have a T430s  and a Docking station. I attached 2 monitors to the docks DP and DVI ports. Windows only allows me to use 2 of the three total monitors (2 external + Thinkpad LCD) at the same time. I have already read that the HD 4000 Card only supports two monitors. However, using Ubuntu allows me to have all three monitors active at the same time. How is this possible?

Hi I am having issue with bootup up laptop attached to docking station with lid closed and external monitor connected with dock. If i open up the laptop lid and enter the login password then i see display on external monitor. After that even i close the lid i still able to see display on external monitor and work fine. But if i restart the computer with lid closed i again dont see any thing on external diaplay until I open up the lid and enter login password. If any body else experienced same problem, Please help ? thanks.

Answer:Bootup Laptop with Docking Station with Lid closed with external monitor attached to docking station

First step: Leave your laptop turned off and dock your laptop with the lid closed. Once docked, then power on from the power button on the docking station. If that doesn't do it, then right-click your desktop, choose properties to display the Display Settings. Click on the settings tab and select dual monitor from the drop down radio button. Check the extend my monitor ... or something of that sort. Then go back and repeat the first step.

Having received a brand-new P51 directly from Lenovo, i am facing major issues attaching external monitors.Win10 image from factory, all windows updates, all driver updates as recommended by Lenovo companion. Manually reinstalled graphics drivers, driver update using windows does not detect newer ones. Latest BIOS (1.15). Upon suggestion of lenovo changed BIOS mode from hyprid to discrete.I have these two issues from day 1:When i attach a monitor using the right hand side mini displayport, it is not recognized. Monitor stays in stand-by, no sound played, nothing happens. Inserting the same cable into the port of a W540 (Win 8.1) monitor immediately wakes up and can be used up to its full resolution (3440x1440).inserting laptop into ultradock (230W) it only recognizes one attached monitor. BIOS password entry lock was not shown on external monitor when lid was closed, needed to enter "blind" and press enter, only upon windows boot the monitor (Lenovo 27") was recognized. i think after changing to discrete mode now it showed the lock symbol when starting with closed lid. but still no second monitor is recognized. This is the first thinkpad in my history where such basic things do not work at all.I noticed once i had Intel and Nvidia context menu items when presing right mouse botton on desktop screen, now i only have "Nvidia Control Panel" and "nView Desktop Manager" shown. Which may or may not be ok. Lenovo seems not to be able to help - they are quite anxious to get it so... Read more

I'm in IT security. I have 3 monitors -- it could be 6.

I just want to know if Windows 7 Enterprise has a setting that will allow the docked laptop with 3 monitors to keep the desktop window settings and icons and everything about the layout when in 'multiple monitor mode', and then have a different desktop settings
and layout for the undocked laptop using it's own screen.

Docked with multiple monitors? Detect it and revert to saved layout/settings for this desktop.Undocked with just the simple laptop screen? Detect it and revert to saved layout/settings for this desktop.

Does that make sense?
P.S. Does Windows 10 do this?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer...
