T410 able to use GOBI 3000?

Question: T410 able to use GOBI 3000?

I have a question. Does anyone know if a GOBI 3000 works in a T410? I am aware that the 1802 error may be an issue but I was wondering none the less. Thanks.

Preferred Solution: T410 able to use GOBI 3000?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T410 able to use GOBI 3000?

Welcome to the community. Looking at this driver page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS001273I'd presume that you could. hth. Eta: hmmm... Not sure now. The item at the link above is the activation program. The readme talks about a driver, but I don't see it on the matrix at: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-74582Odd... Last edit: found the referenced Gobi 3000 driver here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77035No mention of the T410 in the readme. Sorry if I caused confusion.

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

I am having a difficult time getting the Gobi 2000 Broadband device turned ON.  I've installed the unlocked version, Windows sees it and I load the drivers, which install successfully.  Both ThinkPad AccessConnections and ATT Communication Manager see it, but they say it is turned off.  Am I missing something?

Answer:T410 and Gobi 2000 Issue

Have you turned it on in the hotkey driver? Press Fn-F5 and select the Wireless WAN option on.

Hi, I have a T410 which is a solid PC.  0 issues.... Until I switch on the Gobi 2000 card and connect.  A which point, after a random duration ( 3 mins - 30 mins ), will cause the PC to lockup. By lockup I mean the mouse freezes, everythin stops responding.  Display remains continuous, no BSOD etc. Only a hard power button reset will turn the PC off and then on again. The latest drivers posted are installed. Does anyone else have this, or have a suggestion?  Thanks

Answer:T410 Gobi 2000 PC lockup

A couple things to try.

1) re-seat the Gobi card
2) uninstall and reinstall the drivers
3) What connection manager are you using? Access Connections, or a carrier connection manager or Win7 CM? Does the hang only happen with a specific connection manager?

Hello community. My T410 was upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, Windows 10 meanwhile with Anniversary Update.A Qualcomm Gobi 2000 WAN card in the device manager is correctly depicted as "Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Modem 9205", driver version 2.0.7.4 (amongst others). I can turn on and off Cellular Network in the action center. But with Settings -> Cellular Network I get a status text saying the account is not activated. When I try Cellular Network -> Advanced Options -> Add an Internet APN, on "save" I get the error message "The mobile device is missing or not operating properly". The SIM card is active, I tested another one in exchange, same result.I also uninstalled and reinstalled the device driver according to https://support.lenovo.com/de/en/documents/migr-75433 with the option DEFAULTIMAGE=6. Any help appreciated!T.

Hi. I've got a T410 and a X201 that are running Windows XP Pro with a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 adapter and wonder if there is any other software that can be used instead of Access Connections? On other Thinkpads with the Ericsson F3507g I've been using Ericsson Wireless Manager instead of AC that I found to work better. Hopefully there are some other options for the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 as well. Any advice for other software than AC would be appreciated.

Answer:X201 T410 Win XP Gobi 2000 Connection Software

You are right, access connections is a bit too US users oriented, they are just discovering the cellular connections, and they are not so used with apn and other related settings. So I searched a bit and below there is what I discovered so far. You can simply use the dialup connection, quick easy to configure and light, but you loose the signal strenght monitor, and and other advanced functions. Alternatively I tried the mobile2go sw that comes with some Vaios it works pretty well, it manages the short messages, can be used to force the connection in 2g or in 3g and so on. There's also the vanilla Qualcomm dashboard, it's clean and quick but is stuck to the USB ID of the specific manufacturers (acer, toshiba...) so a bit of tweaking to the included driver's inf is needed, or you get the messages "missing device". If you are a vodafone customer you can also use the usual VMC, is full featured but is heavy as access connections. Maybe there's also other options.

Question: Gobi 3000 problems

Hello,   I have a new W520 and my Gobi 3000 broadband modem keeps dissapearing. I get an errors about a USB device problem and in Hardware Devices it is listed with a USB error code 43. I have to power down the computer and reboot to get it to show back up. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes after booting to dissapear and other times a few hours. Very sporadic. Interestingly, it never dissapears when I am using the modem and have an active connection to AT&T. It only dissapears while I am connected via wifi. This is most confusing to see a device malfunction only when it is not in use. It is annoying that I have to shutdown and reboot to switch over to it when I lose my wifi signal. I am using an exisiting AT&T sim with a laptop connect account I have had for years. When the Gobi 3000 is connected it works very well. Any suggestions before I call Lenovo technical support? My guess is that either the drivers are immature, or I have a defective Gobi 3000.

Answer:Gobi 3000 problems

please try these 2 things
1.  in device manager, double click on the device, go to the power management tab, and UNCHECk the option for "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2.  in power manager, DISABLE the option for USB selective suspend.  this option is in the advanced settings of your power profile.

try 1 first, if that doesn't work then try 2.  I'm not suggesting this is a long-term solution, i'm just trying to collect information about what the problem could be.

Hi everyone, I just bought a X120e (0596CTO). It is mobile broadband upgradable, and so I searched the wireless accessories to find a suitable card. Both the GOBI 2000 and 3000 were listed as compatible. So naturally I bought the 3000 since its the newer version. When I received the machine I did all of the Windows and Lenovo updates. Then I popped the back off and put the GOBI 3000 in there but when I booted up I got an unauthorized part error and that the startup was halted. So I went to the Lenovo driver website and manually downloaded the BIOS update utility and the GOBI 2000/3000 driver utility. The BIOS update said I had the latest BIOS and the GOBI utility didn't install because no wireless card was detected. So I called tech support and they told me first off that the GOBI 3000 is not even listed only the 2000 (wrong!) and then he asks me "Are you sure this machine is broadband upgradable". Yes! It's listed as a perk right on the sales page. Plus where did he think I was shoving the card into (the RAM slot?) :-)  I'm usually nice, but this guy was irritating since he was incredibly slow and essentially accusing me of having mindlessly buying incompatible devices. When he says that there is nothing he can do for me, I tell him that I guess I'll exchange it, but that they should fix the sales webpage. He doesn't believe me! (because the PSREF website has it all listed differently). So I walk him through how it was that I came upon the GOBI... Read more

Ok so to start off my Model is T420 ok so this is my second gobi i've Might've ruined due to how sensitive the hardware is - ok so the history goes that i've instsalled windows 8 (iso provided from MS's secretive (idk if it is a secretive onedrive or not)one drive) and upgraded to 8.1 and it instaslled perfect with all drivers onboard from Lenovo System Updater Uitlity and after a fight with bluetooth not shutting down i've decied to go back to OEM system and the first thing i noticed when going to check in device manager(habbit) is Gobi 3000 not installing drivers with a code 10 so the question i ask... Is it possible that the transition from win 8 - 8.1 - back to OEM win 7 did something hardware wise to the gobi? also sorry if i spelled something wrong - that's what happens when you take 5MGx2 melatonin

Answer:Sensitive Gobi 3000? or ???

Ok so I found out that my gobi /3g module might be a windows 8/8.1 onesince the windows 7 version of the driver doesn't install the driver on windows 7 but the windows 8/8.1 version of the driver installs just fine on both windows 7 pro x64 and windows 8/8.1 pro x64and yes I've run the recovery dvd's a few times which is windows 7 pro and the gobi doesn't look to be installed when checking device manager Each of those times -I think someone might be handing out modified gobi 3000's or in short 3g module's to fit in on a certain driver made for another system instead of it's original system (it's what I think am not sure)so in short case closed.

Question: Gobi 3000 in W510

Will a Gobi 3000 work in a W510 inplace of the existing Gobi 2000?

Answer:Gobi 3000 in W510

From my experience with older machines, it will, provided only that the BIOS is white-list patched; otherwise the system will not boot up and would report "unauthorized PCI express card detected" or the like. In short, Gobi 3000 will not work unless your BIOS is patched such that it bypasses the white-list detection.

Is this Gobi thing something that Lenovo offers as a pre-installed device on the W520?  I don't think so, because I can't find any reference to it in the W520 Device Driver File Matrix. It could be that the W520 is not designed to support this device, even though it physically fits into the computer. Michael

I recently purchased a T520 without the broadband option (it wasn't an option at the time).  I first tried a Gobi 2000 from an older T510 laptop but it was apparently not compatible in the T520.  Lenovo said I need the Lenovo Broadband Option with the Gobi 3000 card and they also said it would work with Verizon service.  I just installed the Gobi 3000 and the new drivers from Lenovo.  Verizon support said that there is currently no version of Verizon VZAccess manager software that will work.  Is anyone using the Gobi 3000 with Verizon service?  I suppose I could just get an external 4G device from Verizon but I really want an interal device. Thanks!

Answer:Gobi 3000 not working with Verizon

Okay, I've been working on this for over an hour.  I have the T420S and was told by Lenovo to use the Mobile Broadband software to find the ESN, except they don't make the Mobile Broadband software for the T420S yet. Originally, I went to "Access Connections" (type that in the Start Menu if you can't find it), chose the radio button "Mobile Broadband", and clicked on "Tools". When I clicked on "Mobile Broadband", and "Account Information", all I got was the IMSI and IMEI and ICCID.  There was no ESN or even MEID. So, I went to the "Setup Mobile Broadband" application (type in the Start Menu).  I changed the provider to Verizon, then hit "Start Activation".  I chose to "Activate a new wirless account" and then "Self activation".  I chose "Sign up" and let it try to initialize.  It won't initialize, but after you let it try a couple times, then go back to "Access Connections". Now when you choose "Tools" and "Mobile Broadband", then "Account information", you'll see an MEID number. That can be converted to ESN using the following converter: http://www.humpa.com/vzw/meid_to_esn.php Apparently that MEID number is also on some documentation that came with the computer, but I'm doing this for someone else, so that didn't help me too much.   Additionally, Lenovo said we could open up the computer and find the card and read the number off the card.  The way I did it is much easier than that!&nbs... Hi I am running a W520 with W7 ultimate and have a Gobi 3000 in it.. When I connect to the internet using the Gobi, it connects ok Once connected it will work for a while and then pings to gateway will just stop working and ( obvuously ) cannot access any sites. After a while it will communicate ok for a while and then drop again Access connections shows the session as staying connected I have put in a USB 3G card with the same sim in it to prove that it isnt the 3G network that is the problem and there is no problems at all with network use I have also had the Gobi 3000 changed Anyone any ideas on what would cause the issue?

Answer:Problem with Gobi 3000 and W520

hey dsn, hard to say what could be the issue here. have you updated the drivers for the Gobi3000 ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015016 ) ?If you haven't could you try that? And if you're using Access Connection to connect, try uninstalling that and use W7's built-in connection wizard and see how it goes.

I have an X220 (Win7-64-bit) through work.  Recently ordered the Gobi 3000 (Sierra Wireless) embedded WWAN device.  I installed it per the instructions that came with it.  Activated using the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation (on Sprint). I can connect to Sprint just fine using any of the following connection methods:1) create a DIAL modem entry and use the Gobi 3000 modem interface2) native Win7 WWAN NDIS (i.e. using the Gobi 3000 device as an NDIS "Network Adapter")3) Using Lenovo Access Connections 7 Here's the problem..... it's SLOW!  With an external Sierra Wireless AirCard 402 (also on Sprint EV-DO Rev-A), I get screaming 3G speeds (2.2+ MBps down, 1.5 MBps up)....full signal 5 bars. However, with the embedded Gobi 3000 in the same location, I get barely 800kbps down and 450 kbps up.  I made sure that the driver is the latest.  What am I doing wrong?  I can't think of anything as to why this is so slow.  It's as if I'm only getting 1xRTT speeds and not EV-DO Rev-A. Activation isn't the issue..it connect... just SLOW. Stumped!

Without paying attention to the saying " do not change something if it works" I did an automatic upgrade of the system of my new lenovo t410. I used the automatic system update software included in the original  installaton.I got a message stating that 1 package did not install ThnkPad Wirells WAN (UNPD) Driver. I trried the manuall installation. Now the message was: "The installer was interuupted before Qualcomm Gobi 2000 Package for Lenovo could be installed. You need to restart the installer try again". I tried several time, I got all the times the same message. I took the computer with me for a trip and when I was anxious to use the 3G connection I realized that it is no longer liested in the devices for connection (Fn+F5). The device manager shows an question mark in the devive and indicates that no driveers are installed. I tried to uninstall the Gobi Package , which is verison 1.1.80, not the upgraded one I also get an error message saying "The installer was interuupted before Qualcomm Gobi 2000 Package for Lenovo could be installed. I have the Sierra Gobi-3000 card in several X220 laptops.  If the computer wakes from sleep mode WWAN card is no longer visible and cannot be connected to until after a reboot.  I found the USB Controller for it and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power management to no avail. The error message in Device manager (after sleep mode) is "Windows cannot load teh device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. I have the same issue on my thinkpad X1 (moved up from Win 7 x64 to Win 8 Pro x64). All is working well, except I don't know how to activate or configure the Gobi 3000 WWAN card. the Win 7 utility to activate the card is also not working.

I have a T520. I decided to post this since I couldn't find anything on it anywhere when i was trying to figure it out.Sierra site has no drivers, and the lenovo driver says its an unsupported platform even though it clearly lists XP.Here's the solution, mind you I haven't tried to connect to anything yet:Go get the regular lenovo driver for sierra wireless off of the support page, run it, let it install. You can watch the sierra installer fail after that if you wish.Go into where ever you installed the driver files to, in my case C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR (Where the lenovo branded installer put the sierra installer files)Now go into the uncompressed_drivers directory (C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR\Uncompressed_Drivers)Don't run DriverInst.exe yet. It installs all the drivers, but they wont work. (Devices do not start.)Run the two .reg files to add them to the registry (LenovoPowerManagement.reg and LenovoSupportedPIDKeys.reg)Now run DriverInst.exe, and you're done! Now if someone could tell me how to increase the maximum integrated graphics from 128 mb on a t520 I'd be in heaven!

I ordered a Gobi 3000 for my laptop before I went abroad and found that the local carrier here (there's only one) offers EVDO service. I ordered my EVDO service but when it came to connecting using Lenovo Access Connections, the only EVDO options that are available are Sprint or Verizon. Just for the hell of it, I decided to try both and neither worked but the card is able to see the EVDO network.  The issue is that the card will not activate (even though it is activated on the local carrier's network) because it does not see a Sprint or Verizon network. If I pop in a 3G SIM card and switch the Gobi to HSDPA, it works great but 3G is expensive here which is why it isnt a great option.  The activation is purely software/firmware related on the Gobi and it's incredibly annoying to know I spent $125 for something that simply won't work (despite the assurances by the Lenovo sales team that it wasn't software-limited or locked in any way when I asked before I bought it) Anyone have any familiarity with activating the Gobi for EVDO service on providers other than Sprint or Verizon?

EV-DO never achieved enough global market penetration to become a globally standardised technology, in either an engeineering or commercial sense.

Every EV-DO  implementation was somewhat different, so its not at all suprising that you are unable to activate a Gobi 3000 card intended primarily for access to specific US providers with an EVDO provider in another market.

The Gobi 3000 card is definitely not "locked" in itself to a provider, but many EV-DO vendors would only activate a device that they had sold themselves, for purely commercial reasons.  Also, EV-DO "activation" is quite a different thing to activation in 3G networks, so even when there is a basic technology compatibility in terms of frequency bands, there may not be an ability to activate the device within the  business model of any arbitrary EVDO provider.

Cheers,

Bill

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

HiThe reason of issue is inappropriate fw loaded to the modem by default. It's fw for Verizon, #1 in the fw images directory structue. So, presently modem is ready to work in the CDMA/EV-DO network Verizon, only. Vodafone network needs fw #0. Most of UMTS networks need fw #6 (Generic). Modem isn't locked, just fw is a cause.Further steps for the fw changing depend on the OS installed, drivers (re)installation capabilities, external media with LiveCD etc.

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Please see Lenovo Mobile Broadband Actviation or contact your mobile operator. Do you want to sign up now?' - I tried to connect with a second software called MWconn, which ... Read more

Hi all I've been trying to activate the Gobi 3000 in my W530 for the past couple of days.  Although I have installed the drivers and I am able to see the "Mobile Broadband Connection" in network properties, it seems to be locekd to Verizon or Sprint (deponding on which OS I boot into) and I can't find anywhere to change this, even though I have a SIM card from the local telco (Telkom Mobile in South Africa).  Can someone please explain how to go about doing this?  The Gobi 2000 in my W510 was simply a few clicks, but this seems to be a whole different can of worms.

I have a number of Thinkpad x131e notebook PCs and need to order a WWAN module for it.  The only supported WWAN mPCI-e card listed is the Gobi 3000 MC8355 model, which is the slower 3G modem.  Has anyone used the GOBI 4000 or 5000 series LTE modems? I've seen posts about Lenovo whitelisting certain hardware, but I can't seem to find that list.  Are there electrical limitations that would prevent Lenovo from whitelisting the LTE modems?  If not, this type of hardware lock would be a deal breaker for any future Thinkpad orders for my company. Hardware is Thinkpad x131e Type 3372 Thanks,Jay

x131e doesn't support Gobi 4000 or 5000 or any other LTE wwan cards officially. Look at the followed file and find out "wireless card" section:http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/X131e_AMD_FRU_BOM.pdfJust Ericsson h5321gw is another supported wwan card. It's a bit faster then Gobi 3000 but doesn't support US wireless CDMA/EV-DO carriers.

Answer:Setting up Gobi on X201t

If your X201 is WWAN ready there should be a slot for the SIM card behind the battery. Also there should be a slot for the WWAN adapter which i believe should be under the keyboad, but not 100% for sure for the X201. If the computer is WWAN ready there should be two wires for the antenna by the slot for the adapter. Then you need to download and install the driver and that's basically it. The Thinkpads usually got a whitelist in BIOS for these kind of cards so if you buy a Gobi 2000 WWAN card from Lenovo should work fine, but buy it somewhere else might give you a error that says "Unauthorized hardware" during post. I'm not sure if this is the case here, but if you install the card i guess you will find out If you have some problems with these steps please explain what part where you have some questions like finding the SIM slot, installing the card, installing the drivers and so on. -gan

Where can I buy a unlocked GOBI 5000? The only ones I see on Lenovo.com is $200 for either the Verizon or AT&T brands.. I need one that works with T-mobile

Answer:Where to buy a unlocked GOBI 5000?

What region and network are you planing to use internet in? T-Mobile operates in 3 LTE frequency bands in the US - B2, B4, B12 (for B12 the company planned to start operating just in July 2014) and 3 bands in the EU - B3, B7, B20, in depends of the region and license type. But Gobi 5000 (Sierra Wireless em7355) supports only 2 bands of 6 above - B2 and B4.At the same time Sierra Wireless em7345 LTE card (another one card for the new line Lenovo notebooks) supports 5 bands of 6 above, except of B12. So, there are no advantages for em7355 if you are not planning to work in Sprint LTE network and 3g CDMA/EV-DO networks of US carriers.Supported frequency bands isn't a "locking" feature. It's a design, the set of components, filters. Purchase the card you need on shop.lenovo or altarnate resources.

I am poised to purchase an X201 any minute now...but I need some info before I do...

I am currently using a Verizon Wireless USB "air card" (VZAccess) for my mobile/anytime/everywhere internet connection.  I was going to upgrade my device to the new LTE 4G card and extend my plan for another 2 years for wireless through Verizon.  However, I am just now learning about GOBI - I was NOT going to include that option in my new ThinkPad, but now I'm wondering if I should.  I would LOVE not having to mess with that card sticking out of the USB port all the time, so the GOBI option sounds appealing.

My question is this:  the only GOBI option is 2000 3G.  So what is actually the better option - and what are the advantages...Verizon 4G USB modem with 4G monthly service plan (now actually cheaper than previous 3G plan), or the integrated GOBI 3G.  If I am completely confused about the whole 3G/4G thing, will some please explain?  I am of the mind that 4G is better, that the plan is better, but the actual card is a nuisance...that GOBI would be more convenient, but then is an older, almost outdated technology... ??

Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you.

Answer:Help, please! Verizon LTE 4G USB vs GOBI 2000 3G

Hello mate, First you have to know what the cariers call 4G is not really 4G. LTE is really a pre 4G.The Gobi 2000 support HSDPA+ who is 3.5G. HSDPA+ is the most commun connection for the moment. LTE is faster but the network just start to be deployed means there is a lot of black spots. In theses blackspots you will connect in HSDPA+.I think you will have at least 2 years before the LTE network will be deployed.Normally the real 4G will be finalized soon. The race is beetween WIMAX 2 and LTE Advanced. Normally LTE Advanced should be compatible with LTE but really nobody knows. For my point of view, for the moment, it's a bit risky to change everything to gain a bit of speed. This thing remembers me the war beetween HDDVD and BluRay. And at the end people who bought HDDVD have now a useless thing you can't use anymore. For my usage the Gobi 2000 is perfect because is just a second connection when i'm away. The speed is far enough to browse the net and check the mail. Even for download is not too bad but anyway in Australia cost so much money for a plan with a couple of Gigs, I try to don't download too much.

Hi guys,I have a t410s with gobi 2000 and t-mobile sim card with unlimited data plan. Is there any way I can make T-Mobile USA SIM Card to work with ThinkPad Gobi 2000. I followed the topic"Thinkpad + T-Mobile = WORKS!" posted by "LoveIsMe ". I connected with T-MOBILE, but I only can surf t-mobile homepage. Is there any ways I can get rid of this limitation? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 2000 + T-mobile

You probably need to configure a custom profile in Access Connections to get it working. However, you will not be able to get 3G speeds on T-Mobile with the Gobi 2000 since it does not support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band.

Hi, Anybody have a chance to activate the Gobi 2000 with Sprint, I read somewhere it is possible but no instruction. I can only see AT&T and Verizon for my options. Thanks

Answer:W510 with Gobi 2000

I'm having the exact same problem activating the GOBI 2000 with Sprint.  I'm running Win 7 x64.  The drivers from Lenovo are installed as well as Sprint Smartview for "embedded devices".  I've given sprint the MEID number from tools -> mobile info within smartview and I'm having no luck.  The accepted the number but still no go.  I found on the sprint site where to user the PRL_Upload utility for GOBI 1000 and 2000 devices but it just immediately fails when trying to connect to the device.  Have you had any luck with this??  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.I have an issue on several w510's with bluescreen caused by the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 driver/card. I'm running W7 x64I have read the other post here about this, but nothing outlined in those posts resolved the problem for me.I have opened a supportcase with Lenovo in Norway, but they couldn't help. Can someone here help me out? Anders

Answer:W510 Gobi bluescreen

I'm not sure exactly when the bluescreen occur in your case since you didn't include any details, but i can confirm that i have a bluescreen problem with the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 as well. I have all the latest drivers/BIOS from Lenovo and the latest version of access connections. When i switch from a wireless profile to mobile broadband i get a bluescreen. Seems like it happen pretty late when the mobile broadband profile is applied so might be when AC try to turn off the wlan radio. For some reason it doesn't happen if i try right after a reboot. Also it seems like it neither happen if i disable the radio of the wlan adapter before i switch to the mobile broadband profile in AC. I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 on a W510 witht the Q820 CPU. So far i have not found a solution to this problem and i have not tried without AC to see if the problem go away. At the moment i just turn off the wlan radio before switching profiles and seems like that workaround fix the problem. This is not a solution, but a workaround until fixed. -gan

I have several questions about using the Gobi 2000/3000 modems on the X120e: 1) Must I buy the Gobi 3000 from the Lenovo website, or will the Gobi 2000 work on the X120e? Also if I get it from another vendor will it be the same (have the same form factor to fit)? 2) Others have posted that the Gobi 2000 is unlocked (works with carriers around the world), is that the case for the 3000? 3) For installation on the X120e, how accessible is the SIM on the 2000/3000? I may have to switch out the SIM frequently and having to open up the computer to get to it would not be feasible.

Hi baldursgate and welcome to the community,

As far as accessibility goes, here's how to get to the slot.

I'm not sure about your other questions, except to say that whatever card you put in there should be a Lenovo branded card or you may get an unauthorized card error at bootup.

I just placed an order a T410 with Mobile Broadband Gobi 2000 GPS 3G.I selected Open SIM card for Verizon May I ask if this card support GSM (e.g. able to use GPRS, EDGE and 3G)? Is it unlock and could be use with any GSM carriers around the globe? (I am frequent traveller and have to switch the mobile number quite often) Thanks for the information, I appreciated!James [Update]: I just called the Technical support to ask about this and the technician told me that, I cannot use other SIM card than Verizon one. This means I have to stick with Verizon Open SIM forever???? Is it true???

well...the answer to both of your questions is YES.Verizon tech support (and it's NOT the first time i encounter it...) knows nothing regarding the Gobi.

Question: Gobi 4000 issue

Coworker just bought both of us Gobi 4000 cards. I have a T420 and he has an X220. Both machines boot fine with the cards installed (no white list error), I even got the drivers installed successfully on both. Question: T510: Gobi 2000

I am an insurance salesman, not an IT guy, so it was a painful experience, but I got it done. When delivered, I had chosen configured for WWAN.  I discovered that I had to now order a Wireless card.  That done, I followed the picture for installation that one needs a magnifying glass to read.  There is no instructions on how to hook up the wires to the card, and I had to struggle to get the wires to lay in a manner that would allow me to close everything up.  The first couple of tries resulted in the wires popping off as soon as I tried to secure the card in its slot. Next was getting a mobile broadband data plan.  I chose Verizon and wanted a minimum monthly plan.  To choose the Lenovo option would mean a 2 year committment at the highest price per month.  The only problem is that few people at Verizon know how to set this up.  I was transferred to a tech I think may be in Atlanta, but he was the only Verizon tech that understood what I wanted.  You have to insist to Verizon that you have an embedded chip wireless card.  They will try their best to get you to install a USB dongle.  With the Gobi chip, your equipment is customer provided (CPE) so Verizon will allow you a month to month contract and no cancellation charges.  I found out that I could make a small software change and get the Gobi to work with Sprint, so I am waiting to see how Verizon works out.  If I don't like them, I can switch without... Hi Everyone Question to the forum:I've got X201T with Gobi 2000, and an EVDO subsciption.Currently using the USB modem that comes with the subscription, and trying to use the Gobi.I cannot connect to the provider (SMART TELECOM) using Access Connection software from Lenovo. The error I get is "SIM card found. Unable to retrieve IMSI." What am I missing here? CheersNick

Answer:X201T with Gobi 2000

Take out your battery from your tablet. Check behind your tablet to see if there's a simcard inserted in the simcard slot. That may be what's causing you the problem with SIM card found. If it's there, remove it.

Qualcomm has recently released 4G LTE compatible Gobi 4000 card. Is Lenovo planning to sell the card as an upgrade accessory? Thanks in advance.

hey mariner, welcome to the forums and indeed Qualcomm did release a 4G compatible card, as whether or not Lenovo will be selling the card is hard to say.as Lenovo will normally run test on the card to ensure compatibility before selling it.

I'm ready to throw this thing back to Lenovo.  I have the GOBI broadband card installed, installed the latest drivers, installed the bootup upgrade, have the latest BIOS, replaced the GOBI with a new one and the same thing keeps happening.  My GOBI keeps cycling offline every couple of seconds.  I can watch the device manager and it keeps refreshing first showing the GOBI and then it's gone.  The radio button recycles also.  It first shows it as off, then disabled, then it diappears then comes back as off then disabled so on and so forth.  Nothing seems to help and I'm fed up with this thing.  I have to have the broadband option however, I now have to go back to my old Dell to work with as I cannot figure this one out. Windows 7 64 bit, 8gig of RAM, I7 core processor, 300gig SATA HD

Hi all, I have a t420s and so far I'm happy with it. Recently I purchased a MC7700 card from ebay with lenovo FRU. Everything looks smooth except that I found there is no way to turn on the mobile broadband switch. I believe I have a whitelist-removed bios otherwise it won't boot. The driver downloaded from lenovo website is installed fine, I can see the card working in device manager. I could read the iccid in windows network settings. Everything looks good, but I just can't turn mobile broadband on. I mean, everything is fine, but I am having a hard time fighting with this problem. How can I turn it on? My laptop runs windows 8.1, I heard there is a thinkvantage connectivity tool that might work for windows 7 but not windows 8. I have quite a few files on my laptop and going back to windows 7 is the last option I would like to try. Many thanks!

Hey guys, I'm planning on buying an X120e when I visit the US next month (for some strange reason they're not selling it in Europe at all). I'm interested in the mobile broadband modem option, but $125 is too much for me to pay at this moment, and I'm not sure whether it'll be locked to US networks. I would therefore like to buy the Gobi 2000 or 3000 later on from eBay and use it in the laptop. Would this work fine on O2 or Three UK, or would I run into some odd issues?

Answer:Gobi 2000 modem with X120e

Helo,

I do not know if it will work, but when you look for a replacement 3G modem, make sure it has the Lenovo/IBM part number on that is listed in your X120e's Hardware Maintenance Manual as a generic OEM one might not work with the X120e.

Hey,   I'll be traveling a bit next month and would like to have my 3g modem (on sprint or verizon) active during that time.. But when I look at the Activation service plans available I only see ones with commitments.. Does anyone know how to activate our 3G cards on plans that do not require a 2 year commitment.. Ideally I would love the plans to be a granular as the 4g card is (which is down to daily passes if you really want to pay for them). ThanksJosh

Bevpro, If everything is correctly installed, then you should be able to connect using Lenovo Access Connections. Hi Axure!

Yes the Gobi 2000 is inside the X201T. You'll find it in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.

"Open SIM Card: WW" means that there is no country/carrier-specific SIM card included (WW=WorldWide).

Hope this helps!

Answer:Gobi 4000 Compatibility for W520 CTO

Hi, fasdf78

I did some research and found this thread that deals with the same question, albeit a different machine. Sadly, the Gobi 4000 is not compatible in any machines not listed here on Lenovo's website, due to it not being on the whitelist in your BIOS. The whitelist is a list of devices that are compatible with your machine. The Gobi 4000 is not part of the whitelist, unfortunately. Also, the antennas for 4G are different than those for 3G found in the Gobi 3000.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news,
Adam
