I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T430 / T530 Asset Tag Change Bios

Hello Mschaef4,

Hello, so I did some searching and it would seem that Lenovo has not released a Asset Tag change update for the T430 yet. If the old tool did not work like you have stated you just have to wait for an update to be released.

Best Regards,

Hiro

We received 5 T430 laptops without the Asset tag added into the BIOS.Previously (in T410 and T420 we could run a tool to add this information, I searched the website and couldn't found such a tool for the T430. On this board I found one solution but ether I do something wrong or the solution doesn't work: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Adding-Asset-Tag-information-into-the-Bios-... And then I am pointing to the solution added by Langeballe: "Get be bios upgrade package from their website and then run the following to update the asset tag: (This is for Windows 7 64 Bit) winflash64.exe -patch -dpc "My Asset Tag" Reboot and it should be set" I followed the steps and it does flash the bios, it does reboot but no info is written to ths bios. Excuse my poor English it is not my native spoken language. Kind regards, Henk

all I need to do is change the assewt tag in the M52 BIOS. I have downlaoded the latest version of Flash BIOS update (Flash from operating system version) for M52 and have clicked on the advanced settings to change the asset tag but it says Ialready have this version of BIOS installed and doesn't update the asset. Failry simple request but does anyone know how to change the BIOS asset tag for a M52? ThanksOli

Answer:change ASSET TAG in M52 BIOS

So I have now found out you have to change the asset tag in BIOS you have to enter into the advanced settings in WinPhlas.  I have now got a BIOS error when booting ERROR 00CE Machine Type and Serial Number are INVALID  I go to the advance settings and see that the serial number states and machine type are listed as INVALID So now my BIOS is corrupted and I have flashed more than once so the backup is also corrupt. Funnily enough on other makes of machines, ie HP, you just go into BIOS and type in the ASSET tage - none of this upgrading the BIOS to change the asset tag. Am I missing something? Or is it truely this difficult?Message Edited by oliverleach on 06-18-2009 05:03 PMMessage Edited by oliverleach on 06-18-2009 05:04 PM

Hi all. I'm trying to change the BIOS splash screen on my T430 using the newest Lenovo BIOS update utility but every time I run it I get the error "Failed to do module option" along with error code 211 in the updater's logs. I'm running it on windows 10. Any ideas about what's causing this? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

I just got a new T430. I want to say I hate it! The left palmrest is super hot! The display is also intolerable. Even though it's a HD+ display, it has noticeable screen door effect and the color is just so bad. I'm planning to return this machine and get another model. So my question is: is T530 any better in these two aspects? And how about T430s? Thanks!

Answer:How is T530 compared to T430?

I'm sorry to hear that you aren't happy with your T430. I would probably not consider the T430s as both machines have similar screens and processors with the same TDP.

The screen door you mention has been a complaint of some T4xx for the last few generations. The color and screen door effect often gets better with calibration, with some people feeling the colors were too cold (shifted towards blue) prior to calibration. You might be able to find a calibration file for the same screen (they use screens from different manufacturers) with a Google search.

The T530's 1920x1080 screen is considered to be much better, I can't speak to heat issues.

Hi, I was just on Lenovo's shopping website and am wondering why the T430 and T530 both start at exactly the same price (779 USD) with the same hardware. However, the T530 is obviously wider, heavier, and has a larger screen, so one would expect for the T530 to cost slightly more. This makes me wonder: does the T430 have a slighty better and stronger chassis than the T530, or are there any cost cutting methods done on the T530? It simply doesn't make sense to price both at the same starting price when one seems to use more material than the other. Thanks. -Brian

Answer:t430 and t530 pricing

The T430 chassis should be on par with the T530 in terms of strength. Cost of laptop is NOT determined by the price of materials used alone, there are also many factors that weighs in. If that was the case then X1 Carbon would be cheaper than a T530, since one weighs less and thus uses less material. Historically, Ultraportable and lighter/more compact machines tend to cost more, since people whom wants portability tend to willing to pay more for weight savings technology, and the ability to take machines for trips. While more heavier machines tend to cost less, since the bulk factors decrease portability, and hence people can always opt for desktops, so they are priced competitively against the desktop machines to make them more appealing price wise. T530 uses the same chassis as the W530, and do you want to find it weak?

Another way to think of the pricing on these machines is that, Lenovo slightly inflated the T430 pricing due to the portability factor, and that the T530 pricing is where you should be paying.

Hello,I m going to buy my first thinkpad, need help in between choosing t430 and t530(only reason i would prefer 530 is becuase size screen is bigger) however, if for me performance, stability, issues are much superior than this screen )so pls help me choosing which one should i incline towards *weight, and size not issue for me. regardskaran  *incase t420 is much better, i can look into buying that also

Answer:comparison t430 or t530

The screen quality is also much better on the T530 (avoid the 1366x768 on both). In terms of actual computing hardware, both can be configured to be the same CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD, etc.In short, it's just the screen that's different. My recommendation: Go with the T530 with HD+ or FHD screens.

I've gotten it narrowed down to these two. I will be going away to college for computer science next year, and I want whichever laptop I pick to last me all 4 years. For my first year I will have to walk roughly a mile to and from class each day, so weight is an issue (which is why I'm considering the T430), but I also think the screen size on that is a way too small (which is why I'm considering the T530). I'm using a Dell now with a 17 inch screen, so even going to the 15.6 inch on the T530 will be a bit of an adjustment. I like to code in bed, so I really would rather not just get an external moonitor for the T430. Here's the specs I've chosen for each: ThinkPad T530 - 1 Year Depot WarrantyProcessor:    Intel Core i5-3320M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz)Operating System:    Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)Operating System Language:    Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - English    Display Type:    15.6" HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Backlit AntiGlare Display, Mobile Broadband ReadySystem Graphics:    NVIDIA NVS 5400M Graphics with Optimus Technology, 1GB DDR3 MemoryTotal Memory:    8 GB DDR3 - 1600MHz (2 DIMM)Keyboard:    Keyboard Backlit - US EnglishPointing Device:    UltraNav with Fingerprint ReaderCamera:    720p HD Camera with MicrophoneHard Drive:    500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpmOptical Device:    ... Answer:T430 vs T530 for college student?

The spec looks alright. But if you are going with a T530, then you should get the FHD LCD rather than the HD+ LCD, this will compensate for you going from a 17 inch to a 15 inch LCD.

I'm starting this new thread to focus discussion on symptoms of wireless drops originally reported as 1 or 2 symtoms discussed in this thread.  The second symptom in that thread, the error 31 and yellow bang in device manager, we believe now has a solution covered in the thread.

I'm moving over all comments from the other thread which seem to relate to the wireless drops symptoms.  As you add comments on this thread, please help us keep focus on wireless dropping symptom, and let us know which system you have, which wireless card, wifi driver version, and OS that you are running.

This may be similar to the T430s discussion on Wifi found here, but we would like to keep that discussed focused on T430s which is a different system design than the standard T430 and T530, unless we can find a commonality between the two threads - perhaps a particular family of wifi cards, or other factor.

I recently received a T430 and when the lid was closed it bowed up slightly. The little rubber pad that's supposed to come between the bezel and the base was about 4mm above the base. I compared it to some older T-series Thinkpads that my classmates have, as well as some pictures I saw online,  anc confirmed that they're not supposed to do that. This was the biggest build quality issue (there were several other minor issues), and ultimately it led me to return the laptop. But here's the thing--although the warped lid drove me crazy (I think it's fair to expect more for a machine praised for its impeccable build quality), the laptop was otherwise fantastic. I'd like to order another one, but only if I'm reasonably certain it won't have the same problem. So, T430 owners, do your lids lie flat? Am I likely to be safe if I order a new T430? Would I be better off with a different ThinkPad if this is a concern? Or do I just have to deal with this if I want a ThinkPad?

Answer:Does your T430 or T530 display lie flat when closed?

The lid on my T430s is slightly warped, maybe a 1mm or 2mm. I don't find that objectionable and I wouldn't even have noticed it if I hadn't read posts like yours and X1 screen/lid warped upon delivery

I suspect that this warping is a characteristic of the materials or manufacturing process used in these lids since it seems to affect more than one model. Also it seems that the amount of warping varies from unit to unit.

Hi all!I'm owner of a T430 and a T530. Both are new PCs where I have installed Windows XP. The reason for XP is that I own older software and hardware, which is not supported on Windows 7. But it works fine and I have no reason to change hard- and software as long it fulfills my requirements! And Windows XP runs fine and fast on the T430 and T530. Only problem is an EgoSys USB Audio interdace U2A. It is possible to install and run it, but there is a problem in the communication between operating panel and the hardware. When I move the slider for the level, the level jumps instead a smooth increase of the level, which means not alle values of the slider are transferred to the hardware. There is a similar behaviour with checkboxes: there are states of the U2A which are indicaed with LEDs. When I change the checkbox, sometimes the LED changes, sometimes not. This errors happen very frequently but not reproducable. I tried several settings in the BIOS, like disabling one CPU, hyperthreading, USB3 etc. I tried the U2a also on a fresh XP-intallation without other software, but all without success, the behaviour of the U2A is always the same! I also tested with an ExpressCard with USB-port from LogiLink, but this card does not recognize the U2A at all. Up to now I have used the U2A on many different PCs without problems. What might be the reason that it does not work on an ThinkPad? Up to now I was very satified with the U2A and I would not like to replace it!&nb... Read more

I have a T61 T9300 3GB RAM 1680x1050 upgraded with 128GB SSD,750GB 7200 RPM HDD and a 2503 docking station. It has provided excellent service for the last three years but now it's time to move on, mainly due to a dying battery, noisy fan, very slow graphics and no USB charging for my Samsung Galaxy S3 (0.5A is not enough to charge the phone). The screen has always been way too dark for my taste, even with max brightness. The T9300 still runs Windows 7 decently, but it's time to upgrade to 3rd gen i7. The customization options on the Lenovo website offer the 3610QM but not the 3612QM which is a superior solution. A bit slower frequency but 10W less and VT-d support. Both Intel parts seem to cost the same. The 10W difference will help keep the laptop cooler, quieter and make the battery last longer. http://ark.intel.com/compare/64899,64901 Can someone from Lenovo explain why we can't get the 3612? EDIT 3632 is not an option for me without VTd

Answer:Why isn't i7-3612QM offered instead of i7-3610QM on T430/T530/W530?

It looks to me like the 3612QM is in a BGA package (ball grid array), which in English means "soldered to the board". 3610QM is in a PGA (pin grid array), which means "plugged into a socket". They are not compatible. Look about 2/3 of the way down the page on the link you provide for "sockets supported".

I am trying to find a way to remove/change the asset tag information on a range of Lenovo's. In my research so far, I have foundhttp://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-75237 A lot of forums say this works in Windows and in Dos.  Does anyone have a how to on using this program?  I have tried in both Windows and Dos and neither one can I make it work. Has anyone used this and know it works for what I want?  Or does anyone know of a different way to edit the Asset Tag field in the BIOS? Thanks,-Shane

Answer:Change Asset Tag Information

I have seen prompt whether such information is to be updated in doing BIOS updates. Which have been to date via the Windows package. HOWEVER, I would tread VERY cautiously in doing so. Its not for the faint of heart. If a MD is swapped the tech usually applies the serial # too it and not reason to effect any changes since it tied to the warranty.Have you tried the US support line. If you get through to the American support team you will likely get the info you need. Otherwise try again and again.

I work for a VAR and we have been selling Lenovo laptops for years, and have used Lenovo tools to input Asset Tags into the BIOS using the WinAIAPackage (as well as AIAWrite tool before) to put Asset numbers in. The X130e models we are receiving crash out both programs, and both softwares do not denote supporting the X130e (software last updated April 2011). I've found posts on this forum discussing using WinFlash and related BIOS update tools to force the Asset tag down, but for other non-X130e models. The WinFlash with the X130e BIOS update install doesn't seem to respond to the same commands. Has anyone found a workaround? I called Lenovo support and they told me, after a few days, to just wait for updated toolsets. This won't work, I need a solution. I'm going to keep trying various Flashing tools in hopes some solution previously posted will work for me with a little tweaking or whatnot. That or I'll brick one of these. We handle thousands of Lenovo laptops, and if newer models aren't compatible with Lenovo's own asset number software, that's a real problem. (And yes, I did try to manually enter it. You can't...)

- Added support for ThinkPad Edge E120,E125,E320,E325,E425,E525,S430. The Lenovo driver site indicates a release of 8/14, but the read me files say they were released 7/11. I know for a fact when I called Lenovo mid-July to August this was not released, or known at the level of support I received. Anyway, I didn't want to leave this topic unresolved per se, in case anyone in the future is in a similar quandry.

ThinkPad and ThinkCenter are completely different when it comes to Asset ID.  ThinkCenter uses the BIOS flash tool (with certain parameters) while ThinkPad uses a separate tool.

Anyway, here is the ThinkPad tool:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS039503

from the "Hello,
I have been trying to add our company's asset tag numbers to some of our m73 ThinkCentre desktops.
The Model Number is S0JV00
BIOS Version is Lenovo FCKT80AUS
Operating System is Windows 10

I recently updated the BIOS to the current version it is now, like I was recomended from the "Help us help you" thread.
"A surprising number of problems are solved by updating the BIOS."
However, after the update, the asset tag option is still greyed out.  I have tried using the CFGWIN.exe comand that came with the FCJW80USA download, like Lenovo recommended but I keep getting
Error: "Enumerate Lenovo_BiosSetting failed. Error Code = 0c80041003"

I also tried AFUWINGUI to try and save the BIOS settings, and then edit them to then re-flash with the updated asset information if that was possible but when I try to open the saved bios file, it opens in wordpad and looks like it is encrypted.

Some sort of step by step process would be the most help, naturally.
This has just been such a hassle.  If there are anymore info that could help, I would be happy to add it.

Thank you in advance.

We have various models mainly T410 / T420 ' but alos some X201 / X220's Firstly is there such a utility ?secondly is there one for all ? If not is anyone able to suggest how this maybe done . Manual entry at the bios level on thousands of Laptops is just not possible. The end result is for the asset information to be picked up in SCCM and tracked Thanks Andy

Dell Latitude D610
Service Tag B5ZQ691
Express Service Code 24306944293
cn-ou8082-48643-5BT-2394 Rev A05

I purchased this laptop from ebay. When it arrived and I went to turn it on for the first time, the screen came on saying that there was a password on the primary HDD (Hard Disk #WJ20A124175-595B). Then, after pressing F1 or F2, I managed to open up the bios screen. Only to find out this too needed an Administrative Password in order to change any of the settings!

After exhausting my computer know-how trying to figure it out, I was persuaded by a friend to let them try and get it. When I picked it up a few days later, it was in the exact same state, but somehow the Asset Tag had been changed to "SATAN 666". Now my "so-called" friend said they had no luck on getting past any of the passwords. But if that was true, then how did the Asset Tag get changed?!? (I guess they just assumed that because I am a 28 year old blond female, that stands 5' 9" tall, and weighs 120 lbs, that I would be stupid enough to believe them!)

My first question is it possible to change the Asset Tag while the computer is locked with an Administrative Password. And my second question is can anyone out there figure out a Master Password for my HD & Bios using my service code tag?

Thank you for your time.

I have been reading some of the threads, and one of your members by the name of "Rustam " seems to be able to figure out the Master Password via the Service Tag Number. Do you think his methods would be of any help in my situation?

Hi I have a bunch of Thinkpad Yoga Machine Type 20CD002UUS and I've been trying to set the asset tag in the bios.  According to support I can use this tool: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-... It was working great on a bunch of machines and then just stopped.  I realized the only difference was the bios version. On the ones that WORKED the bios is 1.16, the ones that DO NOT WORK are bios 1.17. Has anyone has this issue?  It doesn't say anything about the BIOS version being an issue, but it's realy annoying. Anyone have any pointers? Machines are running Windows 8.1 64 bit

I am trying to find out how to store asset tag information to the non-volatile memory of an X200 Tablet PC Type 7450-B39. I have over 700 of these Tablets and I really need a way to do automated inventory on them and store the Asset Tag information on each one. I can read the serial numbers using my old bios reading program no problem but my old BIOS writing routine that created the Asset_number field in my other laptops of course does not work on the new Lenovos! I looked at the AMT and it looks like this might be able to store this info in the BIOS BUT I do not have the time to learn the SDK at this point but rather just need a utility to store the Asset Tag information for the moment! Someone Please help! System AdminCADC

Does anyone know How to input the Asset Tag Number into the BIOS for ThinkCentre M58p - Model# 7484? I am able to change the system serial number and the machine type through the BIOS update! My customer would input their only "Asset Tag" for each machine they have. Are there any utility which can be used to enter the Asset Tag? Please help!Thank you!

Answer:M58p - Model 7484, How to input the Asset Tag Number into the BIOS

Very important, read this first!!!! Be careful your system board can make unsuable with you don´t pay attention in this note.  Note: If the downlevel or the current BIOS version is lower than 5CKT28A (you can see this on BIOS), DO NOT use 5cjy48usa.exe (flash from operating system version) directly to update the BIOS. Instead, 5cj948a.iso or 5cjt48a.zip should be used to update the BIOS.   First step: Download the bios update file (operating system version) - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70892 Second step: With file download run and enter on folder: X:\LenovoTOOLS\FLASH\5CJY48USA, where "X" is your partition, and run file: winphlash.exe Third step: On the first windows, enter on Advanced Settings. On the Tab - Flags - uncheck the box "Flash only if Bios Version is different" and  "Flash only if BIOS Version is newer than system"  Fourth step: Go to the next tab - DMI, on update Mode select = Update DMI and the BIOS (Renew DMI), on Category select "Chassis" .                         Now on asset tag field insert the data you needed to show on Asset Tag  Field on the BIOS.  After do this, press OK, and Update BIOS. Your machine will reboot and you can enter in the BIOS and see the information on Asset Tag.  I hope I can help with this.

Trying to do the right thing here. Have reason to believe this unit was sold to me by someone who didn't rightfully come by it. Called Lenovo support but the woman on the phone in Atlanta seemed confused by the situation and had no interest in helping. The unit is barely six weeks old and has a three year on-site "special bid" warranty, so someone, somewhere has to know who purchased the machine and can run the info against a shipping manifest or inventory database.

Lenovo can't devulge these information to you unless you are the person whom actually purchased the machine. But you may report to your local police and they can request such information from lenovo. Also what made you think it is stolen.

T530, 2429-5ZGOS: Windows7 Pro SP1 (x64)Power Manager 6.45Lenovo Power Managment Driver 1.65.05.21 Hello everybody. I hope someone can help me out as I can't solve this problem myself. I used to have a R52 where I could use the keyboad shortcut [Fn]+[F3] to choose between the power profiles or to switch off the display. Using the T530 now, the shortcut [Fn]+[F3] just locks the screen instead of choosing between the power profiles. Is there a way to make it work like it did on the R52? Is there a way to "reprogram" the key shortcut not to lock the screen but to execute the PWMOSDV.EXE file? I would appreciate any help.

I am wondering if anyone has tried the new BIOS 2.50. How has it affected your cooling (i.e. fan operation)? Are there any other issues with it? I am asking because you can't roll back if you install this and if it doesn't make any real improvements I don't want to bother with it. Thanks for your thoughts.

Answer:T530 BIOS 2.50 questions

This is not from me personally, but a user in the unofficial German thinkpad forum reports that the minimum fan speed for the T530 is lowered to about 2000 rpm with BIOS version 2.50.http://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/152678-Neues-UEFI-BIOS-(2-50)-für-W530-T530He also posted a screenshot where you can see the specs of his T530 and the tpfancontrol readings:http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=t530.tpfcokqan.jpg So it looks like the 2.50 update does bring an improvement for the fan operation of the T530.

Hi. The issue from this link doesn't seem to be resolved with the latest BIOS upgrade (or it's an similar issue). I'm running 2.04 and since I set to UEFI only boot I can't enter the BIOS. When I press Enter to interrupt normal startup the screen goes black, it seems to interrupt the boot but nothing is drawn on the screen. Booting continues after a couple of seconds (I guess after the timeout of the interrupt screen). There seems to be an issue with the modesetting code because if I connect an external monitor to the VGA port everything works fine. Note this happens with optimus as well as with only the Intel card enabled. Thanks.

Hello there,  I'm not sure how it happened but like many others here I got stuck in a situation where a T530 would not boot but instead just was showing a black screen. It was getting stuck on a black screen without any activity but the power button LED and brief fan when the power button iwas first pressed. After alot of search and following what I have found in here (pulling the CMOS battery, replacing CMOS battery) I have gotten now where this is what is happening:  All power has been removed, including disconnecting CMOS battery, when plugged in the machine goes through its Lenovo spash screen, then one burst of three Beeps and the screen will say: 0251: System CMOS Checksum bad - Default configuration used.Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings Press Esc to continue of F1 to enter Setup. If I hit F1 to enter Setup, I am presented with a black screen with an underline cursor in the top right. This does not change, only way out is to power off the machine.  When the machine is powered back up I get the same thing except there are Four Beeps and there is not an option to "Press Esc to continue". Once in this state, the only option is to pull the power and begin again.  When possible if I "Press Esc to continue" a normal boot occurs, either to Windows 8 or even into the BIOS Update CD.  I have tried to reflash with the BIOS CD. Hi everyone, I have recently purchased a T430 including a NVIDIA NVS 5400M graphics card. Games (e.g., Max Payne 3) used to run fast, using the NVIDIA GPU. Today, I was trying to play a video game once again (after not having played for several weeks). Unfortunately, my OS (Win7, 64bit) automatically assigns the Intel GPU, resulting in much lower speed. Using the NVIDIA control panel, I cannot change my preferred GPU (changes won't be saved). I have already run a Lenovo update and installed the latest graphics driver (296.88), which did not result in any improvements. When starting a game, I am able to select my graphics card manually, but I would like to configure some general settings using the control panel. Do you have any solutions? Thank you very much.

Answer:T430: Cannot change GPU using NVIDA control panel

You need to identity the exe file that starts the program and add that to the profile specifying which GPU you want it to use. There is a list of detected programs and which GPU they will use but clear the game is not there. Add it is the only way unless there is an updated profile from Nvidia that customizes the features of the Nvidia for it.

Hey guys, I am having troubles running Intel's HAXM with my T530.It says that my CPU (ntel® Core? i7-3520M) is able to use VT-x but it isn't enabled. Both are enabled.Still the HAXM-Installer fails to find the VT-x-Option to be enabled. Is this a Windows 8.1 "Bug" or am I missing something here?Greetings and thanks for your help.

Answer:T530 BIOS Option for enabling VT-x not avalible

Hi,

I  believe VT-x and Intel Virtualization Technology are the same thing.

Do you have hyper-v installed/enabled?  That will mask VT-x for other virtualization software.

One other possibility: after enabling VT-x you must do a full power-off power-on reboot before the OS and applications can see it as enabled.

Answer:T430 Bios update

You should be offered an option to enter the MTM and s/n from the BIOS update utility for the system.  The maintenance disc is only available to authorised service partners, try contacting a nearby service partner to ask if they are able to help you.

Answer:T430 Bios update

Hey Ktuinstra,

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-70350

This is like the only example I could find of updating BIOS using command prompt on Lenovo.com

Note:This is intended for system administrators only. The BIOS is updated without any user interaction.

Refer to the "Manual Update" section, and download and extract the file.
In the step 12 of the "Installing files" section, uncheck the checkbox next to "Install ..... now", and then click Finishto cancel installation.
At the command line, execute WINUPTP.EXE with the -s option. Example: [Path where the files were extracted]\WINUPTP -s

To view the update result, refer to the WINUPTP.log file created at the same directory of the package.

Could you try and check the created WINUPTP.log file, and see if anything appears in there that could be causing the issue.

So could you make sure you did the above steps and if you did can you post the WINUPTP.log.

Best Regards,

I press enter many times.... So even if I want to boot from another medium is imposible if I didn?t put the password of the specific HDD. I didn?t set any other password in BIOS (supervisor etc) except the HDD password for encrypting the hard drive. My intentions were to set the hdd FDE HDD passsword and not a BIOS supervisor or power on and alike.I want to be freely able to go in BIOS or boot other device or power up.I just want that the disk drive is encrypted. How I can achieve this? Thanks,Chris

Answer:SSD SED HDD BIOS Password T430

Are you running windows 10? If yes, the fast boot process doesn't give you a chance to interrupt. You get to the BIOS through the OS, under settings/update and security/recovery/advanced startup. Since you have a HDD password, you can press and hold the power button when you see the HDD password prompt. At that point, when you start again, you can interrupt as you are trying now.

The downloaded BIOS from either System Update or the BIOS CD downloads have caused two of our T430 computers to fail.  The Windows files become damaged and will not reboot.  Then they have to be rebuilt.  Just wanted to let someone know.

Answer:T430 BIOS may be damaged

I updated my 2 new T430 machines yesterday (including the BIOS) and it went fine. Some of the re-boots were VERY slow but I resisted the temptation to turn off the computer and turn it back on again.  You may also have had a problem with a corrupted BIOS download.

Hi, After the latest system update from Lenovo System update, my laptop T530 doesn't do a successful cold boot.A warm successive boot (with interruptible boot screen) works fine. But cold boot always fails and the system powers down in less than 5s. This is seen after the BIOS updated to 2.59.1.12.Can someone help me to restore to older version of BIOS(downgrade it)? Thanks.

Answer:Boot failure after Thinkpad BIOS Update 2.59.1.12 on T530

Howdy,

I'm guessing from the version number that you mention that you're running a 64-bit OS.  The older BIOS versions are at the bottom of this page:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS029246

I haven't had occasion to try a downgrade so I'm not sure if the installer will fuss about that.

[edit] Re-read the notes and that link is for both 32 and 64 bit operating systems.  Here's the bootable CD link if you prefer that method:

Hi I have just attemoted to update my T530 bios to the latest release 2.67 - Relaese date 9/12/2016 and it has failed. Now I am left with a dead - bricked machine. All I have on start up is a black screen. Both volume buttons, Think light and Keyboard backlight come on for a moment on start up and it ries to look at the hard drive for 2 seconds and that is it.Machine Type   2392-APU Can anyone help with BIOS recovery? I have tried the CRISIS recovery method recomended on another similar thread, but it does not appear to work here as it appears the BIOS file is to complicated. In the mean time I would be wary of this update.

How do I get to the T530 BIOS setup? I press ENTER when prompted, then press F1 when prompted, but that takes me to the Intel PXE prompt. If I hit CTRL-S I get into the PXE setup menu, but when I exit that (or if I never hit CTRL-S in the first place) the computer just sits there and never gets into BIOS setup (and never boots, for that matter).I know I can get into the BIOS because I did get into it once (only looked around, didn't change anything and definitely did NOT put it into UEFI-only mode). But I don't know/can't remember how to get past the PXE thing. Personally, I'd love to just disable it because I am never going to and don't even want to do remote network boots.

I have a Lenovo T530 Laptop with x64 Windows 7. I ran the bios update (g4uj28us), the computer rebooted, and now when it powers up the screen just stays black. The power stays on but it does not boot, also NO BEEPS, and nothing ever comes on the screen.I have tried holding the power button for a minute.Tried unplugging battery and AC.I then detatched the Hard Drive, All Memory, Battery, CMOS Battery, and AC, let it sit over night, and put it back together and it does the same thing. I also put an external monitor on the laptop to make sure the screen is not bad.So it looks like my BIOS is messed up. Any ideas on how I can recover it? I read about using a CD with the BIOS on it but how can I boot to a CD if my screen never comes up? I put the bios bootable CD of the same version in the disc tray but it will not boot to that either, i get nothing on the screen when I power up and no beeps. Help! What should I try?  Thanks!!

Hi.I just used the Lenovo System Update -software to update the bios to version 2.69, as recommened by the System Update. After update the laptop doesn't boot to POST, if I have both of my ram chips installed, (the original 4GB and 2GB installed about 2 years ago). There are no boot issues if the 4GB chip is the only one installed. I can't access to bios, if the both of the chips are installed: Black screen, fan running quietly, power led on, wireless led on, no beeps. I'm also pretty sure that my previous bios was at least a few years old. Before the bios update, the total memory of 6GB worked fine and all of it was available in Windows 7 pro 64bit. Can something be done to enable both of the chips in bios? I couldn't found anything obviously related to this in bios. My guess is that this new bios doesn't support my different memory chips. Flashing the bios back to some older versions feels risky to me, as the machine was dead for a week, until I finally figured out that the second ram is causing this. Any tips? Many thanks.

Answer:T430 RAM issue after BIOS update

Welcome to the forum!

I would try removing the 2GB RAM module and doing the following:

Go to the BIOS
Load the setup default values (press F9)
Save and exit (Press F10)
Turn off the laptop
Put the 2GB RAM module back and reboot

One more question, does the T430 boot to BIOS with only the 2GB module?

Hello everybodyI have a T430, just bought a new motherboard for it part number is 04Y1408Installed it, turned on the computer, baclight of the screen turns on, but I get a blank screen. I get a 1 cycle 4 beeps at start up.The mother board didn't come with a Bios battery, so used the one from the old motherboard. Thing is if there were no bios battery on the motherboard to start, I'm guessing the motherboard has no bios on it? any solutions to this would be much appreciated thank you Chris

Answer:T430 and motherboard switch regarding Bios

first question is where did you get the motherboard from? if you got it second hand, there is a good chance that the motherboard is faulty to begin with.

After a fresh installation of Win10 i ran the Lenovo Update Tool to check for missing drivers. There was a BIOS update marked as critical so I installed it. The update was downloaded, the notebook rebooted and started installing the new BIOS. After maybe 10% of progress the notebook shut down. I tried to start it but the only life signs are two series of five beeps and the fans turning. I tried removing the battery pack and the bios battery for some hours, since this seemed to help some of the people with failed BIOS updates, but without success. Do I need a new motherboard now or is there another way to fix this?

Answer:Failed BIOS Update on T430

I just saw an old thread here in the forum which I didn't found before. Really seems that I need a new board. As my warranty is over, do I have to pay the repair myself? Because I think I didn't do anything wrong.

I purchased a T430 23445PU that came with Windows 7 Pro and the BIOS ver sion 1.16.  I want to be able to upgrade the PC to Windows 10 when it becomes available.  The question is:  Do I need to update the BIOS to the latest version, and if I do,  can I update to the latest version directly without incrementally updating through previos versions?  Thanks for any advice.  LarryT

Answer:T430 BIOS upgrade from original 1.11

Hi LarryT,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

No need to update the BIOS, if your system is running Windows 7 SP1, you can directly download the below Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor application this will suggest you if anything required.

Hope this helps.

Hi everyone When configuring laptops in the company I work for, we have previously used SRCMOS (ver. 3.37) with some parameters to capture BIOS setting (with password) and then use the same tool with different parameters running on a usbdrive  to configure the bios on the other 2000+ laptops. This saves SOO much time and limits the possibility for errors. However, with the new T430 I get this error message when using the tool:(i am using a DOS bootdisc and it have worked on all previous Lenovo laptops)"Error:Rc=2 This system is not supported by this program"  I am thinking that I need a newer version of SRCMOS that is compatible with T430?? Unfortunately I HAVE to configure the bios before I roll on the image - because we are using bitlocker and the TPM chip must be activated.Does a never version exist?  Help me please! Hi i would like change the bios setting (set a password, active WOL, change boot Order) on two model (t430, X230).But after many search, i understand as change bios setting is not possible when the password is not set. Have you a solution to set the password and change the bios setting?.. thanks

Answer:Configure Bios T430 et X230

You can use a WMI script to change almost any BIOS setting:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-68488

However you cannot script setting a BIOS password.  You can only script changing a BIOS password.  This is for security reasons.

Answer:T430 BIOS access with HD password

under windows 10, you get to the bios through windows, under settings, update and security/recovery/advanced startup. To get there directly, when you see the HDD password prompt, press and hold the power button. At that point, turn it on again. It will say "hit enter to interrupt startup" or something like that. Hit enter, then F1 at the menu.

I recently ran Lenovo's update tool on a Windows 7 Home Premium T430, where one of the updates was a BIOS update.  I thought this a bit extreme for a routine update but foolishly assumed it would all work out.   The update tool downloaded and installed most of the routine updates and then prompted me letting me know I was about to update the BIOS so I should save work, close applications, etc.  It also gave me the option to "change model number" or "update BIOS."  The default selection was update BIOS, so I chose that, closed my applications, etc, and continued.   A command line window popped up for a second, and then the computer seemed to shut down, with a "Shutting down..." screen and everything, but now it appears to be in some sort of sleep/hibernate/broken state.  It's unclear to me whether or not the BIOS update ever occured or was attempted and failed or anything.  The power button is slowly blinking like normal sleep, but won't wake up with a key press or mouse click.  I'm afraid to press the power button to try and wake it in case something is still happening with the BIOS and I kill it by powering it off. Should I just try the power button and see if it leaps back to life?  Is there some back-door recovery that I should be trying to use?  Should I wait?  It's been hanging there about 30 minutes now, and a BIOS update shouldn't take that long.

Answer:T430 BIOS Update Problems

T430 BIOS update actually doesn't happen until after the system reboots.  It does not sound like the system fully rebooted so I don't think the BIOS update ever happened.  You should be safe to power the system off and turn it back on.

If you press the power button, what happens?  If the system just beeps at you and the power LED continues to slowly blink, then unplug the power cord and remove the battery.  Reinstall the battery and turn the system back on.

In the unlikely case that the BIOS update ruined the system, warranty will cover this.

I have a T430 that the external monitors ( 2 DVI), keyboard, and mouse will not work untill Windows is loaded. I do not see the BIOS splah screen when it is docked. This is important because we use Symantec encryption and the encryption login screen is not being displayed. We have to open the latop to see the Encryption logon screen and we have to use the laptop's keyboard and mouse to enter cretidentals. The screens and the keyboard/mouse work correctly after windows loads.Lenovo driver update utility has been ran to update the BIOS to the most recent version. We are using the Lenovo Thinkpad Mini Dock Series Plus 3 with USB 3.0 (Type 4338). This problem seems to be only affecting this one computer. Are other T430 computers work fine on the dock.

Since Microsoft so cordially invited me I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro on my T530 2394-SXU. One of the "oh by the way" caveats to use my free copy of Windows 10 was the G4ETA5WW 2.65 BIOS upgrade on the T530. This Lenovo supplied BIOS ask for a password even though there isn't one and does not recognize the Lenovo SK-8825 external keyboard when attached via the 4338 dock or plugged directly into the T530. After booting I must re-plug the keyboard before it is recognized. To bypass the useless BIOS password I just press enter. Once in BIOS setup I cannot change any of the keyboard related parameters. I did a clean install for Windows 10 and so far everything else is working. Anyone have any suggestions? Can I install release 2.64 BIOS? This T530 was at 2.53. TIA for your help.Bob Helms

I (someone else had already had the problem and documented a fix) found a solution. Uncheck "Turn On Fast Startup" in the "Shutdown Settings" located in the "Define Power Buttons" section in control panel "Power Options". Control Panel>Power Options>Choose what the power button does>Shutdown Settings>Uncheck Turn On Fast Startup. This insures that all USB ports get poked correctly, fast start up evidently does not. I could not tell any difference in my start up times.

What is the full machine type model of your T530? This can be found on the bottom of the machine and should be seven characters in the format XXXX-XXX. Also, what operating system are you currently using? Finally, are there any errors or signs that the computer is about to hang, or does it just occur with no warning at all?

Thanks in advance, Adam

Hello there, My Thinkpad T430 (product 2349G2G)  is suffering display corruption on power-on, it looks like the display is scanning from the wrong point in video memory, with the BIOS/in-Windows desktop about 36px too low down the screen (and the taskbar disappearing off the bottom).  Also the bit-depth is reduced. ?                                             With any apps or windows open there is varying amounts of flickering from subtle to outright scrambling, especially with windows positioned top-left. ?   The VGA output is perfectly fine, however.  Lenovo Solution Centre reports no hardware problems.  I have tried replacing the LCD cable but this hasn't solved it. The BIOS is also updated to the latest version. Is it likely to be anything other than a problem with the motherboard?  The problem did start after running the laptop quite hot with sustained graphics processing! Many Thanks

I just attempted to install the BIOS Update 2.05 Utility prior to installing Windows 8 on my T430. Midway through the installation process, the screen went to all black. I eventually had to shut it down by holding the power button. Now, it won't start up. I'm not sure if others have experienced this problem or not, but beware. If you have access to blank CDs, I'd recommend doing the CD update process instead to avoid the hassle of sending the laptop into the depot. Has anyone else had this problem?

Luckily I decided to use a DVD+Rewritable to update BIOS yesterday. (DVD+Rewritable can be reused after erasing, so I don't care. But it did take some time to burn even that small disc image.)By the way, it is seriously dumb to force power off when you are doing some important unbreakable actions, even if it seems to be freezed or crashed. I would leave it there for an hour and see.In some situation (e.g. in DOS or POST screen) you can press Ctrl+Alt+Del to trigger a warm reboot, it would be better than trying to force power off which is a cold reboot if it is really stuck when flashing BIOS, but same, no guarantee.OT: I recall a time trying to use a utility to move and re-size a partition on my desktop and unfortunately it (seems to) stuck. I eventually forced a cold reboot and a lot of data is corrupted.
