I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everybody, I am trying to set up the bluetooth to work on Windows 8. Funnily enough everything went smooth with Ubuntu 14.04.So I am 100% sure this laptop has bluetooth hardware. Still, on the support website there is driver for bluetooth. It says it should be included in Windows 8 but I can't find it.Nor I can find the proper device in my control panel. Any hint? Thank you all.

Answer:T410 2537 NQ6 bluetooth under Windows 8

Hello, Are you sure Windows 8 didn't install its native Bluetooth drivers? I've never had any problems with Bluetoothinstallation on any ThinkPads when either clean installing or upgrading to Windows 8. If you have the Thinkpad Hotkey Features Integration package installed, you can press FN+F5 to open upyour WiFi-Bluetooth window and enable the Bluetooth there. If not, the package is here: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 See if this doesn't resolve the issue. Cheers.

Answer:wwan card in thinkpad t410 2537-BA2

Hi, tejas08881

From what I can see, the card is not in your system by default, so you would have to procure one. The card for your system is the Gobi 2000 for worldwide use, as shown here in this KnowledgeBase article. The correct part number for it is 60Y3183 and you should be able to give Lenovo India a call at 1-800-3000-9990 to order one if you'd like. Just make sure that the WWAN card is Lenovo-branded, as other cards will not be recognized in the BIOS.

Hope it helps,
Adam

I have a thinkpad T410 (2537-DN1) and my original power adapter is seeing some wear and tear that I have temporarily fixed with some electrical tape. My adapter is currently a 60W/20V model. What I am wondering is that I still have an adapter from my old T60. It's a 90W/20V model. Can I safely use it on my T410? My research has found both yes and no suggestions but nothing solid. Ergo, I thought I would ask. Thanks in advance, kate

Dear Lenovo, dear x220-engineers, after three years of staying with a *insert-name-of-a-popular-u.s-it-brand* notebook I have the desperate need to upgrade to a new, ultra portable device. Gladly this coincides perfectly with the release of x220. Besides perfect display, perfect weigth and perfect price there is one thing bugging me... There are numerous reports of the standard-cpus creating lot of heat and thus prompting also fan noise. Personally I would prefer a slightly less powerful CPU like the low voltage i5-2537 over the standard ones. These ones are stated to have half the TPD as standard ones. Therefore I would like to know, can we expect x220 variants with these lv-cpus? Possibly also as university-model? Thanks in advance.

Answer:When will we see X220 with Low-Voltage CPU, e.g. i5-2537

Heh. I don't think Lenovo Forums censors other brands names. (Apple, Asus, Acer, Dell, Gateway, HP, SONY, Toshiba)The X220 fan issues might be an issue not necessarily related to the heat of a full power CPU. Probably want to stay tuned to the X220 fan thread. Can't remember if anyone reported egregious thermal output on the X220.

At the end of last year we purchased just over 330 T410 laptops. In 6 months we have had 13 with cracked LCDs. I can say that 2 where caused by the users. Pen left on one units keyboard and there was a dropped unit with scratches on the corner were visible. If this continues we will end up with 26 units per year getting mysterious cracke. We did not experience these problems with the Dell D620/D630 series we had for 4 years prior to the T410.  One of our users claimed that the support tech at IBM told him that the LCDs could not support high temperature variations. No details as to what these variations are. We are nationwide so each area will have a variety of temps.  I remember back about 4 years ago watching live demos by IBM reps that would stand on the laptops and pour water in the keyboard. The units looked tough. Has something changed? The specs looked reallty good when we were comparing manufacturers last year.   Anybody else experiencing a high failure rate of unexplainable cracked LCDs ?Thanks

Question: T410 SVP

Hello,I have a T410 that has a svp/bios password enabled.  I do not know this password.  Unknowingly, I've since attempted to clear the pop password (even though there was none) by removing the battery, and coin battery.  Well that killed the laptop.  By removing the coin battery, it cleared the date/time in the bios.   Now the system completes POST and wants you to set the date/time in the bios, and prompts for the BIOS/SVP password. It's essentially bricked, whereas before, I could at least boot up to my O/S.    The service guide says it needs to be sent to Lenovo for a fee.  I would rather do it myself and save the fee.  Is there a clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard?   I'm not sure what to do.  Please help.

Answer:T410 SVP

Question: T410 Battery

I wanted to get a 6-cell battery for my new T410 (came with a 9-cell) and based on information garnered from the Web that one for the SL410 would work, I picked it up from Batteries Plus.  It wouldn't fit.  Is this information worng? According to the latest TABOOK, there are batteries now listed under assessories that have different numbers from the SL series.Any new info on this?

Answer:T410 Battery

Are you sure you got a battery designed for the SL410? Not the SL400?  No battery from any Thinkpad laptop with a 3-digit number that ends in 00 (not sure about the T400s) will fit in any thinkpad with a 3-digit number that ends in 10. I've yet to see any generic batteries for the SL410, ANYWHERE. Even copied from overseas, quality aside.

I'm trying to decide between a t510 and t410. It seems that I can get a comparable t510 for the same price as a t410, so why not go for the bigger screen? What are the drawbacks to a t510? I know it's a bit thicker - 0.2" (and wider and longer which I expect). Which would cause some problems carrying around Any other reason I should get a t410? Thoughts? If anyone else had to make the decision recently - why did you choose one versus the other? Thanks.

Answer:Get the t410 or t510?

I went with the t510 for the reasons you describe. the main advantage of the t410 is that you can get the same processing capability in a smaller sized package.  If you have to carry it around everywhere on your shoulder (I don't) or if you often use it in space-limited environments like planes (I don't) then I can see that a 14" would be advantageous.  Also, for some unknown reason, only the 410s have that nifty always-on USB port.

Answer:T410 DVD & CD Capability

I'm sure it's capable of doing what you want, but for the exact details what is supported it would be useful to know the exact model of drive you got. If you go into device manager and find the CD/DVD-Rom/RW we could give you the exact details. I'm pretty sure it's capable of reading/writing CD and DVD (single/multi layer). Also what OS do you use? In Windows 7 you can write to CD's and DVD's using the built-in features of Windows. Insert a blank CD/DVD and use the copy/paste features of windows before you choose to rightclick and select burn to disc. For ISO files just doubleclick on the ISO file and follow the instructions. There are also some freeware applications (like CDBurnerXP, ImgBurn and others) you can use that is a bit more advanced (depends what you want to do). There are also a lot of others which is not freeware like Nero and Roxio. If you just need to burn some files there is no need to buy any software or use anything except what you can find in Windows (assuming you got Windows 7). Windows Vista also got some built-in burning features, but i cannot remember for XP. -gan

Hi,I have a problem with my Optiarc DVD RW AD-7930H on my ThinkPad T410.  I purchased a refurbished machine from 1SALE.com (One Sale a Day), and it required quite a bit of set-up requirements, including re-loading Windows 7 Home Premium. There were a number of drivers that needed to be updated and a few that had to be downloaded and re-installed.  I was under the impression that that was the case when I got to the CD/DVD.  I can see and eject it with "safely remove hardware and eject media" and in device manager.  Device status is: "This device is working properly." and the best driver software for my device is already installed. Windows 7 Home Premium/i5 CPU/4 GB/64 bit OSHelp me please!

Greetings all-OK, here is what I did:1. Opened and fired up new T410 yesterday2. Checked all vital signs..ok (I5,2GB, 128SSD, Win 7 pro 32bit)3. Installed 4GB ram and checked... stick ok, but only 3GB available- normal)4. Installed Win 7 pro 64bit from disk.. clean install. Installed on C: drive5. Updated all 64 bit drivers from Lenovo site.. all good.6. Lastly downloaded Rescue and Recovery and created DVD rescue disk7. system reported- R&R not completed correctly...??8. I tried a R&R using the DVD created and it now won't boot into windows at all.    It starts like it is going to load windows, but then hangs in a black screen. I noted that it created the R&R backup on C: and used about 8 GB. There was still a Rescue and Recovery D: drive there from the 32 bit set-up. 5.5 of 10GB used with hidden files on D:.R&R did not use the D: drive partition.. but used C: instead. Since I want to use all my 6GB Ram and minimize the Win 7 64bit size on my 128GB SSD, I now need to know how to re-build my T410 with Win 7-64 the correct way. What would be the best way?Create a partition for Win 7 first? What is the optimum disk structure? Can I create the partitions when I boot from the Win 7 64 disk? Thanks for your patience - You'all out there are my only hope of a healthy recovery. Bob

Answer:Help! Bombed my new T410

Hi and welcome to the forum! The correct way to create recovery discs on factory preload is this:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/migr-68317.html and that too obviously before doing a clean install. What you see on D:\ is the hidden partition, that helps you recover your system to factory settings in case of OS issues, viruses etc, but AFAIK it can only be accessed on factory preload. The correct way to setup your system would have been (this is what I would have done), create recovery discs first (which you can't do now unfortunately unless you pay lenovo a fee for the discs), format my entire HDD during Win 7's installation and create 2 partitions, one for OS and the other for data files, ideal size in my opinion on 128GB SSD would be 40/60 split between the OS and data partition. Hope this helps.

Question: new keyboard, t410

Hi. I had a SMALL coffee spill on the T410 a week ago. Mouse button-behavior has been a litle unpredictable ever since, both on the keyboard itself (all four touchpad buttons are a little off, with the right-click buttons being the most inconsistent). Plugging in a USB mouse is better, but that still is not perfect. Weirdly, clicking on some things (links in Chrome browser, for instance) usually works, while clicking on other things (Chrome browser tabs, for instance) often does not work. Very unpredictable, though.  I'm going to try replacing the keyboard to see if that might fix the problem.  Two questions: (1) Do you think that might fix the problem?  (2) How on earth can I order a new keyboard from Lenovo--all the multiple help/ordering/parts/replacement pages and stuff on the website are oddly unclear on where/who I can simply call to order this replacement part. Any help there would be appreciated.  THANKS

Answer:new keyboard, t410

dutchg, the keyboard and touchpad is separated thus if you were to change, I would advice to check the TouchPad first. You mentioned that the 4 buttons on the touchpad are off? I don't remember having 4 buttons on the touchpad. There are only 3 physical buttons right? If you want to replace the touchpad, contact support and they would advice you on how to do so.

you can purchase the accidental protection warranty within 1 months of purchase outside of USA i think (or maybe 3 months are applied across the board). The cost of warranty upgrade should be around 150 USD, and is probably lot cheaper than doing without warranty.

Question: Screen on my T410

I have a T410 that is only 4 months old. I recently pushed down on the top center of the laptop to seat it to the docking station. The screen cracked on the inner side of the screen. I have gone round and round with my companies help desk and lenovo. I am paying $1000 out of my budget to get a $600 laptop repaired. The folks at lenovo think this is ok. I think it is legal robbery.  I would not recommend buying a T410, I have only had problems with mine. First it was the hard drive and now the screen. I can't wait to get home to my DELL each day.

Question: Thinkpad T410

Hi I'm hoping someone can help with my problem below: I've got a ThinkPad T410 and a docking station and I've got a switch box, so I can either use my desktop PC or my work laptop (the ThinkPad). My desktop works fine and displays on my monitor, however when I switch to my laptop nothing is displayed and the monitor goes to sleep. However if I unplug the monitor cable from the back of the docking station and plug directly intothe side of the laptop it all works fine. I've tried pressing the fan key and then IF, but that doesn't do anything. Any ideas? Hopefully it's just a setting that needs changing. Many Thanks Paul

Answer:Thinkpad T410

the laptop is probably having problem recognising the external display through the switch box, basically laptop video port can't detect a feedback loop from the monitor and thus it is not registering the video port as having been connected to anything. Some KVM switch box does have this issue.

I know I can get a modular bay hard drive for my T410, however the only reason I would want to do this is to stripe two SSD's (system already has the 160GB Intel one that comes with the system if so configured, I want to double that and stripe the system to double hard drive performance). Will the Lenovo BIOS support this?

Answer:Stripe two SSD's in a T410?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You can put second SSD using bay adapter III:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-73170.html

The BIOS would support this.

Hope this helps.

Hi,  I guess this Questions might have been asked here. But T410 was not mentioned. I'm planning to order a SSD and since this is the very first time in my life that I'm actually going to use as SSD, I don't know head or tail about it. I read some threads and some users are facing, problems with the 840 Pro and some are facing problem with 840 Evo version and so on. Also one more thing is, What are the Original SSDs from Lenovo which Lenovo Supports, since they don't manufacture any SSDs. So, I want to know from fellow Thinkpad T410 users, which is the best SSD for the T410. P.S. 1.I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate. No issues with Drivers or BIOS or HDD or anything. Just want to upgrade to SSD for faster speeds.  2. I'm looking to buy a 480GB or 500GB or 512GB capacity, since different manufactureres have different capacities around 500GB range Thank You for Your time.

Answer:SSD for a Thinkpad T410

Hi,Lenovo offers a lot SSD models for different laptops and lines. Presently there are no principal differences of speed parameters between consumer SSDs (not corporate or data center lines) within one price level market segment. Because of the most of SSDs for laptops in 2.5" formfactor are based on the single controller SF-2281.So, don't worry about speed parameters. Choose any SSD you'll find, based on the price, SSD capacity, reliability technology you'll read about, manufacturer reputation etc.Another reason is the parameters of the drive t410 supports: a) 2.5", 9.5 mm in high (some SSDs are 7 mm in high but have additional 2.5 mm bezel to be fitted into the 9.5 mm bay tightly);b) sata II (3 gb/s) specification, that's why there is no reason to buy the fastest drive since the modern drives usually support sata III specification, backward compatible with sata II.One of the good feature for drive choosing that might be helpful is hardware-based full disk encryption (FDE) support if you are using apps that need fast encryption. Have a look at the wiki for detals, for example. The number of such drives on the market is not big.Do not buy too old model, 2..3+ years on the market. Do not buy the newest model.Regarding the drive vendors for Lenovo laptops - Intel, Samsung, Toshiba, SanDisk, LiteOn... But it's not necessarily to buy the drive from Lenovo supplier for laptop out of the warranty. There are also Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, Transcend, Plextor with very good products... Read more

Question: ThinkPad T410

I plan on getting the new ThinkPad T410, but I need to know one thing. The onboard video graphics is the following; Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 5700MHD - AMT  What is the max resolution that can be set to when the laptop is connected to a 40" LCD? I see that the video options include 2 discrete graphics cards, but I really don't need them unless the onboard video can't display the resolution that I need.

My T410 is great with the i7, but I was just attempting to encode some video, pegging both cores (4 processes) at 100%.   I expected the cores to heat up, but I noticed temperatures started rising dramatically.     Intel lists thermal max for the i7 at 105C but obviously it isnt good to be running the processor at temps even close to that.   When the temp reached 95C I freaked out and terminated the job.   The case barely got warm, tho the vent was blowing fairly hot air.   If I hadnt been monitoring the core temps I wouldnt have suspected things were getting so hot.   The case isnt dusty, the room is slightly cool.   And I was actually holding the laptop in the air to give it maximum air circulation.  Normal idle temps seem ok, 35C at the moment. Anyone else doing processor-intensive work on the i7 noticing temps like this?    I assume that at some point the processor would have throttled itself to cool off, but that didnt seem to happen.   Can the i7 safely run that hot?   are there any apps that work on new thinkpads to max out the fan or throttle the processor and keep heat under control?  tpfancontrol doesnt seem to work on this model.  It would be a shame to have a nice processor and not be able to actually use it.

Question: T410 or T530

Hi I have a T410 under warrantyDue to performance and overheating issues that came up recently, the seller sugested to replace the machine to either sam T410 ot T530 with no cost. This is manily a development laptop so the most imporatnt thing for me is smooth strong machine that can run simultaneously  Visual Studio / Eclipse, VMWare macine, browser with app. 10 tabs opened, outlook, music palyed from the web, plus some other application(s) that might run on the background. The T410 I have, handled that pretty well until problem had begun, but the question is whether it is worthy to upgrade to the t530.I understand that the T530 s a newer model but is it really better? What are the main differences except for the screen size, which makes the T530 heavier? T410 spec:Core i5 520M8G RAM,Integrated intel graphics T503 Spec:Core i5 32100M8G RAM,Integrated intel graphics HW4000  tx

Solved!

Answer:T410 or T530

what makes it heavier, well the screen is larger and the whole case is larger, so that takes up the weight increase. The i5-3210m is about 2 to 3 times faster than the i5-520m. Also, you can upgrade the T530 to have a i7 Quad Core if you so wish. Then there is option of FHD LCD. Finally, the T530 can take 16 gigs of ram (2 x 8 gigs), and the hdd is SATAIII, you can also get a mSATA put in.

Question: T410 HDD Cloning

I have a t410 that recently fell off of my coffee table.  Now it takes forever for it to boot. Ran the thinkvantage  diagnostics and apparently I am in imminent danger of HDD failure and should back up my data and change my hard drive.  Normally, I would brazenly ignore this message, however, the system is really slow to boot and given the fall (while it was on), imminent failure seems like a real possibility. I bought another HDD and expect it tomorrow.  How do I clone my existing drive with all the partitions onto the new one?  Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:T410 HDD Cloning

Welcome to the forum!

You'll need an external USB enclosure, and software like Acronis or Clonezilla that you'd boot from a "live" CD.

The new drive goes in the machine, the old one in the USB enclosure.

Question: T400/T410

Question: T410 Overheating

I wish you guys help me find out what's going on with my ThinkPad. Recently it began to have overheating problems, so I opened and did the cleaning of the air exits and replacing the thermal paste processor and Nvidia GPU. But the problem remains, and I noticed that my FAN seems that this not working. I use SpeedFan and AIDA64 to monitor the temperature and they indicate the cooler's RPM, but when I put my hand in the air outlet I do not feel any air coming out.

Answer:T410 Overheating

What are the temps and RPM's the software is reporting?

You can remove the keyboard (no need to disconnect it, just move it a little downward) and check if the fan is spinning.

Answer:T410 gets uncomfortably hot.

It isn't unusual for a laptop to become uncomfortably hot while playing games.  My t500 does this as well.  My answer was to download tpfancontrol, on the T500 setting the fan manually to 127 causes it to run the fan at 100%.  I do this while playing games the the laptop barely breaks 60 deg c.  Most gaming "laptops" cannot even be held in your lap because of how hot they get.

While I know that T410 has a consistent fan error message on boot. My fan at the moment does not run at all. According to speedfan I am hovering at 75-80C. When I booted up i was at 65C, which is still very high. I know at 100C the computer will shutdown automatically. The reason I know the fan is not working is becuase when it usually hits these temperatures the fan will run and is loud enough to hear.  I have also taken the keyboard out and cleaned my fan, so there is very little dust blocking it at the moment. AS I'm writing this the temperatures are spiking. Please help. My BIOS are all up-to-date and my warranty is about 2 years past.

Answer:T410 Fan not running

There are only 2 parts involved: The fan and the motherboard. The fan is much cheaper and much easier to change, and, in my experience, caused 90% of this sort of error.

Hello,I just got my T410 without OS and wanted to install a downloaded students Version of Win7. But now I cannot install the OS because there is missing a driver for the DVD/CD device! Its really annoying me! ;-) I can't find that driver anywhere. Do you know where to get it? At the official webpage of Lenovo i find many drivers, but not for the optical device...Can anybody help me, please???

Answer:T410 without OS - no DVD/CD driver

You don't need a driver for the CD/DVD drive since it's included with the OS. I'm not sure exactly what you try to do here, but if you managed to burn the Windows 7 student version to a DVD then insert the DVD with Windows and press F12 at the post screen where you see the Lenovo Thinkpad logo. Then you should see something like "preperaing boot device list" or something like that. Then select to boot from the DVD and the installation should start. If the CD/DVD is listed first as a boot device in BIOS you might not even have to press F12 to boot from the DVD. There is no Windows driver for the DVD to download from Lenovo since it's included with Windows. -gan

No, I don't have one yet.   But I'm disappointed that I see no reason to upgrade from my T400 to a T410. The main gains would be processor and video, as I have already tricked out the memory and hard drive on my T400. But I'm really interested in raw processing speed. I don't play games; I mainly run Matlab, emacs, and Latex. (If you don't know what the last two are, think of them as weapons from a more elegant age.) That's not to say I don't use other software, e.g., I run Photoshop CS4 fairly often, but if I need serious visualization, I'll use the 30" monitor on my 32GB, 8 core Xenon Dell. But I'd love to get Matlab faster on my laptop and moving from a 2.8GHz Core2 Duo (T400) to a 2.66GHz Core i7-620M (T410) processor isn't much bang for the buck. The benchmarks I've seen (I can dig up the links or you can find them via Google) show such small improvements between the two that I'm not tempted. The Core i7 really benefits from software written to take advantage of it, and that's in short supply. Anyone feeling similarly? Anyone know when the faster Core i7 models will be released?

Answer:Disappointed with the T410...

I dont think people will really know what they want to do, until benchmarks of the spesific notebooks start hitting the web. At the same time, I don't forsee an urge to upgrade my t500 anytime soon.  Unless maybe the display is alot better or the dedicated card has a really great 3dmark06?

Were there any changes in software, drivers, other hardware or any physical trauma that may have triggered this malfunction?

You tried the HDD in another system; have you replaced the HDD to the original unit yet?
Are you getting the same error?

Hi, short questions: What is the best/fastest SSD for a T410 at the moment that i can order from Lenovo? And if i dont order the ssd from lenovo but buy one from market what is the best that fits in the 410? T410 only supports 1,8" right? Are there any problems expected with a not lenovo certified ssd? And is there a list of the original manufacturer of the Lenovo SSD's so i can look for Tests? Thank you for your help!

Answer:Best SSD for T410 at the moment?

The T410s only supports 1.8" SSDs.The T410, on the other hand, will take standard 9.5 mm 2.5" drives.Since the T410 only has an SATA II connection it won't get the full benefit from the new SATA III drives since the data can only be transferred so fast, but buying a SATA III drive isn't necessarily a waste (the Micron/Crucial RealSSD C300 comes to mind) of that speed.I'd suggest anything with a SandForce controller for the maximum possible speed- don't bother with the other, slower controllers. The one exception to this rule are Intel SSDs since they provide superior random read speed in small file size.Your computer will boot up faster with an Intel SSD than a SandForce one (that's why the Lenovo rep used an Intel one rather than a SandForce one in the bootup demo mentioned in another thread on this forum). The only thing is that Intel SSDs fall down on the job when writing data (their speeds on writing are very bad compared to SandForce (70 MB/s vs 275 MB/s for the SandForce). Also, try to get an SSD with the 34nm flash size since they last longer than the 25nm ones. Also, 34nm drives are usually larger than the 25nm ones, not that certain manufacturers would tell you this.If I'm not mistaken, Lenovo uses Samsung drives (470)?Those aren't SandForce drives. In short, get the cheapest SandForce drive you can (for the capacity you need).Remember, large-capacity drives outperform the smaller ones.

Answer:T410: need SSD recomendation

Your stem says T510, and your message says T410. No matter. With respect to the question, they are the same. A 256 GB doesn't exist. 250GB, yes. You can't go wrong with Intel. In any case, for that size you will be paying big bucks. Suggestion . . . use a smaller SSD for your OS and put a large HDD (320 to 500) in an Ultrabay III Adapter that replaces your optical drive. . This forum is full of that info. To transfer your present OS to the SSD, use a good software that makes cloning easy. I use Acronis TI-2011, and create bootable Rescue Media on a thumb drive. Personbally, I would keep the existing HDD as is and move it to the Ultraybay III adapter, put the SSD in the main drive caddy and do a clean install and add in all the Lenovo drivers and tools you want. There are several threads in this forum that detail these procedures.

Question: Lenovo T410

I have Lenovo T410 with i7 processer 4 GB Ram 320 hard drive windows 7 ,I just want to add 4 GB to make it 8 GB all together , Is it okay to upgrade Ram ?

Answer:Lenovo T410

Hi Syed060,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Yes you can go ahead in upgrading the memory to 4 GB; and the maximum memory supported for ThinkPad T410 is 8 GB only. The use of 1067 MHz SO DIMM memory is recommended for this system.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Question: T410 RAM Upgrade

I am trying to upgrade my 4 GB of RAM to 16 GB ( 2 x 8 GB boards).  After installing the boards and  trying to reboot, Windows would not open up.  The screen showed two options:  repair mode and regular mode.  Neither resulted in Windows starting up.  I have Windows 7, 64 bit as my Operating System, so it should support 16 GB of RAM.  I re-installed the original 4 GB and Windows booted up normally with no problem.  Anyone have an idea what the problem is?

Answer:T410 RAM Upgrade

Good day and welcome to the community.

IIRC, models prior to the *20 series only supported 8GB of system RAM, as 2x4GB.
This T410 thread, post 1 on page 2, may provide some additional insight for you.

Question: T410 Upgrade

Hey guys. I have a T500 and another person wants it more than I do so I was thinking of giving to to him with a install of 8 Pro, That is not the question though. My question is if I uninstall some of the T500 only drivers and put the SSD in the T410 and install the T410 drivers is that easier and stable enough to be better than doing a clean install and transferring my files. (Unfortunately I would probably lose my JetPack Joyride save data any way to copy that I am like level 12) all my other Steam games thankfully save in the cloud. I also have a second question. It is about the T500 ultra bay adapter for a SATA hard drive (where my Steam games and Blu-Ray saves are stored) is it there same type you use in the T410? I don't mind buying an adapter but if I can I would like to use the same one. Is that possible? I probably can Google it in like 5 seconds but since I am posting a confirmation would be fantastic. Have a great day!

Hi parmardilan,

As far as switching the SSD, it should work once the correct drivers are put in place.

In regards to your second question, according to this Personal Systems Reference the ultrabay specs should be the same for both.

Hope this helps!

That RAM looks ok. I've seen cases where Windows goes with blue screens after adding/swapping RAM. Do you see the new RAM in the BIOS?

I would first test that the RAM is ok, try downloading Memtest+, burn it on a CD and boot from it, you need to let the program run for several hours (unless you get an error first). You can download the Memtest+ from here: click me!

Good day and welcome to the community.

Here is the repository for support resources, drivers and software utilities for your machine:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t41...

One thing you may wish to do is to download, install and run ThinkVantage System Update:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t41...
to to see what it offers you. Then you can fill in any gaps directly from the package listing at the first link above.

For the drivers, the best would be to install and run Lenovo System Update: click me!  It should take care of a good bunch of drivers, then run Windows Update for the rest.

Hi all I need a system to run a few VMs on at the same time.  I'm thinking of a refurb T410 as money is tight. Can a T410 handle a few VMs? and what hypervisor would you advise?  I'm happy to run either Hyper-V server, Virtualbox or VMware Workstation...   At present I like the idea of running hyper-v server as the main host OS.  I'd like to know if this will work ok? Thanks everyone Jonny

Answer:Best hypervisor for T410?

As no one replied I'll answer myself and say that hyper-v on server 2012 runs well.

Hey everyone.  I'm new to this forum.  I'm about to buy a T410 as soon as I can.  Due to budget constraints, i've decided on these two configs.  Either an i5 with NVS3100m OR i7 with intel graphics.  there won't be any games played on here except some online flash games.  There will be HD movies, some spreadsheets and business stuff and my addiction of online poker.  I guess my major concern is the movies that will be played on my tv or an external monitor.  Thanks in advance!!!!!

Answer:Help with T410 purchase

The Intel HD Graphics can handle the tasks you list perfectly well.  Save a few $'s and get the i5 and the Intel Graphics.  You won't be disappointed.

T410 purchased approx 1 year ago - grade A refurb.   For the last few days I've had issues with the HD running 100%.  Will do it for maybe 15 min a few minutes after boot, then will stop, and come back randomly.  Response times have been upwards of 15 seconds (per task manager), with no processes running over 0.1mb/s.  Most of the usual suspects are already disabled, and I've had no issues like this since received.  Hasn't been dropped or shaken (though I've thought about the latter). First thought was virus, so off went the wireless and a full scan.  Nothing.  Next a BIOS HD scan - and got error 0000 "Read verification failed".  The common solution is "replace the HD".  Easy fix, right?  But I have no issues booting (<30s) or running anything (while the HD isn't running sprints for no apparent reason).  In fact, I sit here typing on the problem child with no issues (right now). If I leave task manager open and walk away, when I come back I see the HD was at <10% while the screen saver was running (which is a grid project, so I would expect some use).  But as soon as it woke from the screen saver, back to 100%.   New HD is on the way, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts before I have to spend my next morning off reinstalling. Thanks in advance.

Question: ThinkPad T410 RAM

Hello,  Can someone please tell me if my t410 will work any faster with 8GB of this RAM:  http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KHX1600C9S3K2_8GX.pdf or is the speed and performance similar to the RAM which I have installed now (also 8GB):  http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KVR1066D3S7_4G.pdf   Thanks

Answer:ThinkPad T410 RAM

You've got nothing to gain by swapping the current RAM with the new one, it wil still run at the same speed which is determined by the machine's motherboard.

We recently purchased a T410 and an extended battery.  We removed the DVD drive and placed battery in place, however, when we set the DVD player back the drivers came up with yellow exclamation.  The DVD drive is a Sony AD-7930H.  We went to the Sony website and DL'ed the driver for this, however the driver is only compatible for Vista/7.   We had ordered our laptops with XP installed on them.  We are looking for a compatible driver for this DVD driver for the XP system.  Has anyone had this issue and found the appropriate driver? Thanks in advance.

Answer:T410 - DVD Driver for XP?

The DVD-RW driver should be a standard generic driver... Try getting Device Manager to update from it's existing driver database.

Probably your motherboard or the LCD itself. Either of which is hard to diagnose without a replacement part.

Question: T410 Throttling?

I have a Lenovo T410i with i3-330m and Intel HD integrated graphics. When I set the computer on maximum performance and run Prime95, the computer can easily hit 90C which is the TJmax (according to Core Temp). At 90C, the CPU thorttles to 930 MHz, the temperature drops and the CPU speed increases back to normal. This pattern happens repeatedly. I have the lastest BIOS update. Is this behavior normal? I find the temperature to be too high. At close to ideal loads, the CPU temp is about 75C.

I would like to connect my T410 to my HD TV with HDMI input to TV. I have a HDMI to HDMI cable. So, is the only other thing that I will need is a 'Display  Port to HDMI' converter like this one - http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042801&p_id=4826&seq=1&for...? Also, see this note from the above link - "Note:  This is a passive adapter. While DisplayPort connectors are capable of passing an HDMI signal, DisplayPort and HDMI signals are basically different and not compatible with each other. This adapter does not actively convert a DisplayPort signal into an HDMI signal.  In order for this adapter to function properly, you must have a DisplayPort source device capable of producing and passing out an HMDI signal through the DisplayPort jack. " Is the output from the T410 HDMI signal compliant?

I'm starting get frustrated with how Lenovo deals with their customer. I purchased my T410 back in June 2010 and it has been in and out of service depot since. The first was BSOD, overheating, constant freezing, and currently it is in service depot for a bright spot on the screen and the keyboard warping (possible due to the previous heat problem). I spoke to 'Earl_L' via chat and explained my problems hoping to get a replacement system or the refund, and his response was "get a new system". Then I said "what should I do with the one in service depot?" His reposnse was "sell it." what kind of **bleep**ing customer service is that? I already purchased 3 thinkpads this year and this is how they treat their customer.

Lenovo doesn't like to take back it's laptops even if you've just opened it.I can only recommend to continue asking for help on these forums, and if it's ever ascertained that your issues are hardware-based issues, then call them on it before you run out of warranty.

Question: T410 Vitualization

I have a T410 with both XP and Vista virtual machines that work very well.  So, I decided to enable hardware vitualization thinking that it may improve something.  After enabling it in BIOS and rebooting, neither of the vitural machines would work.  I went back  and disabled it and the vitural machines worked again. My question is has anyone had this problem and knows a solution or should I leave it alone and just run the vitural machines as is?

Not before one of the major WWAN mini-PCI-E card suppliers come out with one!

My guess is that wont happen until some time during 2011.  The global population of working LTE systems is still quite small, with a lot of carriers not scheduling implementation until 2011 timeframes.

Cheers,
