Integrated Mobile Broadband options

Question: Integrated Mobile Broadband options

why lenovo omitted Integrated Mobile Broadband options such as Ericsson F5521g with 21Mbps D/L and Gobi 3000 from its list for customising a thinkpad T-420? and what people do now ( without those modules) if they want to use a simcard for connecting to internet whenever they carry their laptop and need web services?

Preferred Solution: Integrated Mobile Broadband options

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Integrated Mobile Broadband options

Hi AmirNa!

I have no idea why the Lenovo Australia online store shows no Integrated Mobile Broadband options for the T420 at the moment. I would call them, or find an in-stock standard model with Integrated Mobile Broadband at a reseller.

Hope this help!

I am trying to figure out the best configuration for my X1 Carbon tablet which I am planning to order. I have gotten stuck on the option for Integrated Mobile Broadband.I am based in Sweden, with a Telia subscribtion, and want to be able to slot a simcard into the computer. Which of the two options should I then choose (for some reason Lenovo completely refuses to answer this question in any other media (phone, email, distributor, etc) than in this forum so hopefully someone here can help me): * N5321 Mobile Broadband HSPA+* LTE Sierra EM7345 Thx!

Greetings:Does it make sense to get the Integrated ____ (Verizon, AT&T, etc.) Mobile Broadband add on or is it more economical to get a USB or express card later on?Does integrated mean built in as it relates to this issue?Thank you.

Answer:What is the value of the Integrated Mobile Broadband add on?

The value is for people whom knows definitely that they are going to use mobile broadbands, in addition the reception using the integrated system would be better than the external usb plugins (most of them anyway), if you only occasionally use mobile broadband then some people would suggest an external one. It really depends whether you are a road warrior that need constant mobile internet access.

Hello,Ordered a laptop with this option. & have inserted a SIM card I used in my "old Sony laptop that I used for WWAN.What else is needed to connect? Thanks

Answer:What does " Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable" mean?

Hi rookie66, welcome to the forums,

it means that everything you need for broadband, WWAN, is present except the all important module which actually makes it all work.  The module can be purchased separately, or, on some systems the slot where it sits can be used for a solid state drive instead.

As you probably want to use WWAN, if you post which system you have members will be able to inform you exactly what you need to realise it.

What does this mean? I ordered a T410 with this option and I would like to connect to my Verizon account- do I need a SIM card from Verizon to get mobile broadband to work. It appears no mobile hardwear is installed on the machine??  My x61 had the drivers and hardwear already installed - so this was previously very easy to do. Thanks in advance.

Answer:T410 - Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradable

Hi and welcome to the forum!Upgradable means that the internal antennas are installed inside, but you need physical Mobile Broadband card to use WWAN, the card can be bought from lenovo. I'm not sure about the SIM part though, isn't Verizon CDMA? were you given a SIM for your X61 from Verizon (given that you were using same connection)?

I just received my new T500 laptop with integrated AT&T mobile broadband card.  There are no instructions (i.e. printed material, installation CDs, or on-screen messages) on how to activate this feature.  I currently use the AT&T service on my T61 laptop using a broadband modem card plugged in to the side of the computer.  This laptop came with an integrated Verizon mobile broadband card and every single time I boot up a message comes up asking if I want to activate / subscribe to the Verizon service.  No such message (for AT&T) comes up on my new T500. Can anyone provide me with step-by-step instuctions on how to get set up and going?  Also, are there any AT&T broadband service users who can share any helpful tips in transferring an existing service from one computer to another? Thanks in advance for any help!

Answer:How do I Activate (Integrated) AT&T Mobile Broadband Card on T500?

"Also, are there any AT&T broadband service users who can share any helpful tips in transferring an existing service from one computer to another?" Just move the activated SIM card.  I have one activated SIM card that I move between a T60 and a T61 as required. Both of these machines have internal integrated Sierra cards, though. Have to remove the batteries while moving the SIM card. As far as activating service on your new T500, you should be able to do that by calling AT&T Wireless. Two people in previous threads on this forum have gone that route. Centex

When I ordered my T410s, I chose the "upgradeable" option.  What does that exactly mean?  Does this mean that I have all the hardware already pre-installed, and I just need a SIM card and a service plan?  I noticed what appears to be a SIM card slot underneath the battery.  Should have thought ahead when I ordered the ThinkPad and had them set it up ready to go from the beginning.  Thanks.

Answer:Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradeable vs. Gobi 2000

Upgradable means you have the SIM slot and built-in antenna, but need to insert a WWAN mini PCI adapter like the Gobi 2000. So you have all the hardware except the WWAN adapter. The WWAN adapter is easy to insert and not that expensive to buy so it's no big deal, but if you are going to use mobile broadband you could as well have bought the Gobi 2000 instead of upgradable. You need a SIM card and a plan as well from a mobile network operator in your country. -gan

Can someone confirm for me that ordering this will get me an Ericsson F3507G?  I have been told from our I.T. purchasing that it will be an Option card and he can get it cheaper and install himself.  I am trying to replicate a previously purchased unit  that is out in the field, for testing. Thanks

Answer:X200 Tablet with Integrated AT&T Mobile Broadband (Ericsson 3G with GPS)

If you are configuring that in the online store, the "Integrated AT&T Mobile Broadband (Ericsson 3G with GPS)  [add $80.00]" will be the F3507G, unless there has been a recent change. Amazing if your IT guy can go through the purchasing cycle, install, and test, for less than that.

Hello All: I can't get the GPS location feature working on my new W520 (4270-CTO).  The device did work once, the first day I had the computer (before running Microsoft Update and Lenovo Update), however, it has not worked since then. I've tried everything I can think of - removing and re-installing all the software, double-checking the BIOS, looking for device driver problems - but no luck.  When I launch the 'GPS Enabler' application, all I see is 'Satellite Acquisition in progress...".  I know the laptop can see the satellite constellation because I have a small hand-held GPS beside the laptop, and it has an excellent view of the satellites.  So does my Blackberry. My operating system is Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit, SP 1 (what the computer shipped with).  I've installed the 83wo13ww driver package (nominally version 6.4.1.6, according to the readme file, but displayed as driver version 1.4.0.5 in the properties sheet of the driver when viewed via the Device Manager); the 83wa20ww Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation package ( version 4.0.0020); and the 83gp31ww ThinkVantage GPS package (version 2.72). I'm running Access Connections 5.84 (build 83c755ww), which I believe is the current release.  I have placed a SIM card in the slot in the back of the computer, and when I launch the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation, it shows all the appropriate information (IMEI, ICCID, etc.) for the SIM card... Just a postscript - I have found another discussion from about 18 months ago that mentions similar problems with a W500 and a T500.  One of the participants in that discussion suggested that improper assignment of COM ports might be the cause of the problem... but, if that is so, how does one go about re-assigning the two ports used by the GPS?  The picture I provided (link is above) shows that my W520 is using COM ports 10 and 11 for the GPS.  I have no idea at all how to change this port assignment. Here's the link to the prior discussion: W500 GPS Problem Regards, Michael

I purchased a W530 with integrated mobile and have been trying to connect with various networks to no avail. I have a Type 2436-CTO S/N xxxxxxx 13/08 and Windows 8 came installed when I received. I have upgraded BIOS and everything that Lenovo solutions says I need to update.

The MEID is A1xxxxxxxxxxx. It came with an integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355-Gobi 3000 modem. I have downloaded an updated driver for Windows 8 for the MC8355. I have spoken with almost every Lenovo technical person as well as taken the computer to various network stores and so far no one can figure out why it won't connect to Verizon.

Verizon says I'm active and the computer error message says I am not active. Every tech has tried to look at the system by logging into my computer and no one can figure it out. The device manager says the MC8355 is working. Interesting when it was shipped to me it also had an AT&T sim card installed. After I had signed up with AT&T and one mo of paying for service they determined it would not work on their network. Finally someone told me to take the AT&T sim card out and it still will not connect.

Verizon tells me I do not need a sim card as I have the MC8355 but they can't tell me why I can't connect. Now I've paid for Verizon service for one month and still cannot connect. Can someone confirm whether the Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is supplied locked or unlocked on the X60s? Just bought an X60s and was told the internal SIM slot is unlocked and would take any SIM card but for some reason it's taken an unhealthy dislike to my T-Mobile SIMs. When I load the ThinkVantage Access Communications Wireless Connection Staus window and click on the Mobile Broadbad tab, at the top above the Connection Status box I get the message "SIM card is locked...." When I load ThinkVantage Access Communications and press the Mobile Broadband button, I get the following message "The installed SIM card is not authorised for use with integrated Mobile Broadband adaptor in your computer." This latter message seems to suggest that Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adaptor is locked.

Even a super basic fx5200 64bit blows it away in some cases. In others it's a little faster.

It might run those games, but they likely will be very slow, possibly unplayably slow.

Integrated graphics can be good for regular 2d stuff but given that you can get a decent enough AGP card for about £30, I would at least suggest a machine that has an AGP slot available.

Recieved my new X220 Tablet today (i7, 8GB, etc) and have to say its looks a nice bit of kit - only problem is I thought 'Integrated Wireless Broadband - Upgradable' - meant it had integrated WBB but you could choose upgraded hardware if you wanted - turns out what this really means is it has nothing unless you choose the Erricson device

Also, wish I hadnt upgraded the antennas as you lose the built in webcam - I didnt realise that by upgrading this component you lost what is essentially a given on most other laptops

Not a great start to ownership - I am about to try the pen to see if this is as bad as they say - if it is, its going straight back!

I am moving in a couple of days and have almost a 2 week wait for my internet and phone connections to be put in. Through desperate and uninformed searching, I have discovered mobile interent may be an option to see me through this time. I am tring to figure out how all of this works and what my best/cheapest options are. I am wondering how a mobile internet card or stick works and if I need tohave a internet connection already established to go this route. I do not have a cell, but wonder if I were to get one with an option for internet, if I could use this as a modem for my laptop? This is all new to me and I would be greatful for any advice!

Answer:mobile internet options

With mobile internet you get a special adapter, often USB, for your computer. Like cell phone service it is available anywhere that particular carrier offers service and usually comes with a 2 year contract. There are some other plans; here is a new Virgin Media plan.

Yes, you can use a cell phone as a modem for a computer. Here, for example, is one carrier that offers hourly rates.

You, of course, should see what is available in your locality.

My advice is to find a free public hotspot (library, restaurant, ...) and get your internet fix there for the 2 weeks.

If you didn't fit mobile broadband card yourself you havn't that card in your laptop from the factory. It's wwan ready only, i.e.has internal wwan antennas and sim card holder. If you'll decide to buy and insert wwan card you have not to download and launch application from Lenovo site "Mobile Broadband". It's for simless CDMA/EV-DO networks only.

Question: Mobile broadband

I bought a Lenono Thinkpad Edge E530c and would like to use the internal 3G mobile connecting. I inserted my sim into the sim slot under the batery compartment but its not working.  It looks like the drivers are missing. When I start the Mobile connection app it give me "No Wireless Mobile Broadband device found." When I go look in the device manager I cant see any modems installed. So how do I make use of the 3G sim slot to connect to the internet? I also downloaded some bluetooth / modem drivers for my series but nothing seems to work. Please help.

Answer:Mobile broadband

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

To activate WWAN in your Lenovo ThinkPad E530c, first you have to ensure that you have a WWAN card and WWAN antennas installed. WWAN upgradable models have the WWAN antennas installed from the factory these will be red and blue wires (the Wi-Fi are typically white, black and grey or just black and grey depending on model). If you have WWAN antennas installed from the factory, probably you need to purchase a compatible WWAN card and install it. If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, install Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation which will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband.

Go to Lenovo Support site, enter MTM number of your device in quick path and get the system specifications. If you find any difficulties, please share the MTM of your device.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

hey extin, welcome to the forums.hard for me to say if a driver is needed or not. The unit of yours, is it running on XP on Win7 ?If it is on XP, a high chance you may need a driver. I would then suggest that you get in contact with the mobile broadband vendor and check with them.

Our systems are advancing greatly and the GC75 card doesnt give a quick enough connection (Is seems like dial up again) so i was wondering if there was a broadband connection that we could use?Another problem is that there isnt a very good Orange signal where we are so was wondering if there was a data card that could be used with a manx card?We are also looking at buying a new laptop so i can get the best possible to match the data card.I may have got myself in a muddle here but basically i just want a mobile broadband connection that can be used everywhere when on the move with the best signal possible to make it more stable. You help would be much appreciated!

Hello, I purchased a T400s in the UK which came with a Vodafone SIM inside it for mobile broadband. However, due to some error, this SIM never was activated and I can't use it. I'm wondering if I can purchase a mobile broadband SIM from T-Mobile (or indeed anyone else) and use it with integrated SIM component of the laptop - does anyone know if this would work just fine, or would any hardware or software modifications be required? (I have a clean install of Windows 7 on the laptop.) Thanks for any input, /vijayan

Answer:Mobile broadband SIM

Will work, if you will have SIm card with 3G activated. If you have model F3507g, then this is Erricson hardware and if you are not fun of Access Connections tool of Lenovo (i do not use this tool), then i can recommend you simple tool directly from Ericsson http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/mobilebroadband/download/wirelessmanager/gc83?lc=en&cc=us

Question: Mobile Broadband

Hi,Slightly hijacking the thread...I too live in a rural area (Ewelme in Oxfordshire). Our problem is that the exchange is the other side of the Thames and the Council will not let BT place more cabling over the bridge or under the Thames - so some users have Broadband others do not (only at 1mbps).Mobile signal is atrocious indoors, can barely get a signal and 3G is non-existant. However, outside and a few yards down the drive 3G kicks in.Therefore my question is: Is it possible to get a High Gain aerial and have that connect to the 3G dongle to access a better signal inside the house? If so, does anyone know how, and which equipment is required?I work in Kent and really would like to be able to work from home occasionally to avoid the 200 mile round trip every day to the office.ThanksJ

Answer:Mobile Broadband

Don't think there is any way you are going to get it, until Gov makes a move on all UK being able to get BB. This they are wanting to do. And charge everybody for the extra installation. About £6 to £8 a year. One of the things they are doing is laying Fiber Optics in Sewer Pipes

I have two questions. Assuming you get the optional Att mobile broadband option on your x300Can the gps be used without activating a mobile broadband account? Can one just insert their sim card from their phone and have mobile broand band work on their computer?

Answer:GPS without Mobile broadband

Not all cards are supported and may need to be unlocked, see related threads on this.  May be easier to use a USB GPS device while not using your minutes.

Question: mobile broadband

HiI'm having a problem with mobile broadband on our x200 laptops After a period of use the HSPA Mobile broadband becomes grayed out. On investigation it seems like the entire ericsson network adaptor has been removed as it has gone from device manager and it re detected . Reinstalling the driver makes no difference . The wireless and Lan connections are not afffected . On rebuilding the laptop the network adaptor returns so it does exsist on the laptop This is happening over multiple laptops . We have a locked down user profile so users would not be able to removed the hardware . Has anyone seen this before ?? Peter

Hi Swathu,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Are you sure that your model has been shipped with WWAN card from the factory?

If you have a WWAN card installed in your system, Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation will guide you through the activation of mobile broadband. Also, install Think Vantage Access connections to handle various wireless profiles.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Answer:Mobile Broadband Sim

Did you configure it with the Gobi 3000 card? If you did call Lenovo and they should send you out the missing SIM card. Hit Fn+F5 and check for the Wireless WAN option in there.

OK, I asked a question before and got one response...but not answers. This should be simple.1. I have been using the mobile broadband on my T410 for 3 years. It worked fine.2. I did a major windows update.3. Mobile broadband has gone. There is nothing! COmputer says there is no sim card. (there is a sim card and I reinserted it)4. FN F5 bring up no mobile broadband.5. I am paying my $30/ month and have had nothing for past 4 months!!! its killing me. 6.  It worked once for 3 years. Now it does not work. I tried reinstaling the software and it gets almost rhrough and says "There is no mobile sim card installed in this computer"!! Ugggh!!!!7. Lenovo support is useless. Even tho I only annoyed them one time with a problem in 3 years of service contract, my contract ended a couple months ago....so no help there....I have spoken to a dozen people and none have a clue what to do. Surely someone out there has seen or heard about this? My computer cannot be convinced that mobile broadband should be allowed to work!!   HELP!

Answer:Mobile Broadband....need help - its gone...!

I'm the person who responded before. Could anyone who has mobile broadband and who has kept all the various Microsoft and Lenovo updates current tell us that their WWAN is still working? It seems odd if Wombat and I both had a hardware failure at the same update time, but I suppose it could happen. PS My card is an Ericsson 3507

Answer:Mobile Broadband

You would not be able to use your 3 mobile Broadband abroad as difference country uses difference system via their mobile network, you will also need an account with the local broadband supplier Mobile roaming calls worldwide is difference than mobile broadband Most International telephone companies have an agreement between themselves that will allow you to use your local mobile phone on there local network and charge you roaming fees from 80% - 175% above the normal cost some also charge you both ways, for receiving a call or a text message and when you make a call

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I will be moving from the rented house I've been in for 21 months into a new house in the next couple of months. The house is a new-build and I will obviously not have broadband to start with - don't know if I'll have a phone line straightaway yet. I am trying to work out the best way to get online during this time.I am in the UK.

I went in to an O2 shop today and they were trying to sell me a dongle which cost £20 and then £2 a day, £7.50 for a week and £15 for a month. This would get over my immediate problem of geing broadband-lacking when I move but wasn't quite what I had in mind. I was thinking more of a dongle with x amount of Gbs (to be decided) which doesn't have clock running on it. So, after I've stopped needing it at the new house, I could take it out and about with me on my laptop whenever I wanted and when it ran out I'd top it up.

Does such a deal exist and, if so, what size in Gbs would be OK? We use aroung 10Gb per month on average but that's with the kids looking at YouTube, using iPlayer a bit so assume that just a bit of surfing would need less? Thanks for any help.

Answer:Mobile broadband Pay-as-you-go?

Hi,
I use '3' mobile broadband all over UK. £10 per month, 1gb which is plenty for an hour or so a day surfing plus emails.

I think in a new build you'll soon have utility providers beating a path to your door!!

Hi I am using vodafone mobile broadband while on holiday. I am able to receive emails but am having a problem sending them. There is no error message it just times out. I have rebooted laptop but am getting nowhere - had the same problem a few weeks ago - the email i was sending just sat in my outbox until I got home. Any suggestions appreciated

Answer:mobile broadband

The general rule is that you must send mail using the SMTP server of the ISP with which you are connected to the internet. At the moment, that means using Vodafone's SMTP server. Your email program will almost certainly be configured to use the SMTP server of your home broadband provider, which won't work with the Vodafone connection.

Hi and welcome there.. i heard not about the first time this question.. Al what i can say is the best compatible WWAN card is the SE F3507  ...and not all cards will work overall (different / newer Card-Firmware) even when you buy a Lenovo card (used by some thinkpads/S10 with 3G/S10-2 with 3G)
second is more difficult have to disassemble your Ideapad ... you need to install a antenna in LCD frame (loose warranty)...
and the third barrier is under windows till now not correct working scenario (even with the actual drivers) ...
Hints for try out upgrading/opening S12  here in this part of forum ... same for tryout upgrading wwan card...

Question: Mobile Broadband

I have mobile broadband with 3. Today I tried to connect and did so successfully. However, when I check the connection to see my how my usage was going my 3 connection manager told me I was not connected? How can this be? I am connected to the internet via my USB 3 modem not wifi and am surfing the net.Can anyone help me understand this?

Answer:Mobile Broadband

When you install the 3 Mobile Broadband software, an entry is added in the Network Connections folder for a "Dial-up" connection. If you double click this, you will connect without having to use the Connection Manager, which may still show you as *NOT* connected, even though you are.Additionally, if the Mobile Broadband is set as your default connection and in "Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections" you have selected either...- Dial whenever a network connection is not present- Always dial my default connection...then as soon as you run a program that requires internet access (web browser, email etc), the Mobile Broadband will connect.

Answer:Mobile broadband

It has to be mentioned as matter of disclaimer really since this forum is innundated with users who mistakenly believe they're x was GSM / CDMA equipped when they notice the SIM card slot under the battery. Most X's have the SIM slot but this seems standard regardless if the user configured or will have it installed. Assuming you spec'd your for the card and aren't being hopefully confused by spotting the slot....1. Check your BIOS setting to ensure the card is enabled2. check devmgmt.msc for the WiFi or "MobileBroadband" category since the category isn't standard and verify the card is properly installed and enabled / if it is then verify in the cards Advanced properties to ensure the OPERATING SYSTEM DOESN'T TURN OFF THE CARD TO SAVE POWER !!!! Still failing then contact tech support or reply with the rest of the story and whatever inordinary things you've done to this thing because the manufacturers and cellular providers along with Lenovo's group have worked extraordinarily hard to even COOPERATE IN DETERMINING CONFIGURATION AND RARE FOR  SO MANY THINGS TO COME TOGETHER SO WELL IN LAPTOP AS DO BROADBAND CARDS. The cards monthly subscription costs and cellular usage penalties has forced them to behave so cohesively when delivering the option since the type of person who buys a broadband card expects it to work and work out of the box. If you could take an official or even unofficial survey of what kind of hardware failure makes end users and prosum... Question: mobile broadband

Hi all, i am a first time user to having a laptop, i want to get broadband for it and it to be pay as you go, what do you suggest. also someone told me a can connect it to my desktop broadband, how would i be able to do this if so it wouldn't be mobile would it?. i'm with virgin with my desktop computer.

Answer:mobile broadband

Hi and welcome to the forums.

I assume you live in the UK like me so I think I can help.

I use 3 mobile broadband which in my opinion is the best of the PAYG tariffs. You can buy a dongle which is the expensive bit or if you have an unlocked 3G phone which allows tethering you can use that if you know how to set it up.
You get 150MB of free data when you top up (minimum ?5 in store, ?10 online) plus it also works as a phone if you want it to.
This 150MB of data lasts 90 days or until you use it all up.
This means it works out you spend ?1.66 for 50MB of data every month, which if you have static broadband at your home should be enough. If you ever use more than this just top up more regularly.

For more info (and probably a much clearer explanation visit 3 - Pay As You Go - SIM Only - Free stuff - Free stuff with every top-up)

I don't know too much about Virgin medias mobile broadband but a good place to start would be here Mobile Broadband - Broadband - Virgin Media

Hope this helps, Oli.

EDIT: After reading your post more carefully, it sound like your do not have your Internet connection going into a Wireless router and then to your laptop and desktop.

This suggests to me that your Virgin Contract may be quite old as all new tariffs include a free Wireless router and setup, not to mention less to pay per month (I went down this road with BT, tripled my connection speed, got a load of free stuff and I now pay ?10 less per month.)

Hi, I've a Lenovo S10-3 to which I've fitted an Ericsson F3607GW wwan card for Lenovo notebooks FRU: 60Y3237.  I bought the card from Hong Kong via Ebay.  I downloaded driver 83W013WW.exe from the Lenovo site and it allows me to connect in areas of 3G coverage. Unfortunately we don't have full 3G coverage in Australia and in my home region there is only a GSM signal and the card will not connect to it, although my old usb plug in modem works fine!  According to the Ericsson data sheet the F3607GW has the full range of frequency bands avilable - so it should work! I see that other drivers and the Ericsson broadband Manager are available and would welcome help in what drivers/broadband managers to use.  I have read on other forums that some other modems require the region to be set to '3' to allow proper working in Australia. I would welcome advice on which drivers/manager etc to use to get the card working properly in Australia. If anyone has experience with the GPS capability of this card I would like to learn how it was done - that's the next step after getting the wireless broadband function to work! Looking forward to some good advice! Rogerf

Hi
Welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad? Maybe we can check if the machine cames with a 4G modem or not.

I used to have a Thinkpad L420 that only came with the 4G SIM slot, but internally it did not have a card. Maybe with the model number we can check the specifications, or even the Maintenance Manual to open it up and check if the 4G card is installed.

Hi there. I'm in the UK and bought an X200 about 6 months back with built-in 3G card. I used the included T-Mobile free month's trial until it came to an end. I am now using the laptop out and about more and am wondering what my options are - can I use any mobile broadband provider's SIM card or is it locked to T-mobile in some way? Looking at T-mobile, O2 websites, they only seem to offer USB dongles which seem a bit inelegant. Just spoke to a T-Mobile customer rep and she seemed to think you could get SIM cards only in stores. Any advice welcomed. Edit: just realised the trial was with Vodafone not T-Mobile. No wonder the T-Mobile rep was confused...

What do mobile broadband mean in their small print "fair usage"? If you have PAYG and opt for a £10 a month that means 33Mb per day (1Gb per 30 days)as a limit. What happens if you go over that and how do they limit your usage?

Answer:Mobile broadband limits?

Wasn't that hard to find, click hereQ. What happens if I go over my data allowance and am I charged?.A. If you go over your allowance, you can still access the internet at broadband speeds, however you will be charged 10p per megabyte of data used.

I have just got my X201 Tablet and have only now started to explore it and to my delight I find a little summer pressie from Lenovo in the form of Mobile Broadband and GPS fitted but not asked for or included in the specs at purchase.Today I have been running around looking for a Bluetooth GPS receiver to go with the Memory Map software I use but not able to find one. Only now I sat down to run through the options on my tablet and check to see if there were any updates on the Lenovo site and it reported that I had a GPS fitted, Thank goodness I didn't buy one. A big Thanks to Lenovo for the hidden treasure within  Alistair

Plugged into the laptop (Acer 5310) it shows up as online with a 5bar connection (the max available). When I attempt to connect to the internet it goes through the routine for a couple of minutes then pops up with"The remote server is not responding in a timely fashion"The modem is a ZTE MF622Any help much appreciated!

Answer:3 Mobile Broadband Problem

If you haven't changed anything at your end, it is most likely to be a server problem at theirs - how long ago did it work nad have you chnaged anything in your setup since ?

I just received my Thinkpad X230T with" mobile broadband ready" option. In the battery compartment there is the SIM slot as shown by the manual. I inserted an AT&T sim card with dataplan but the system did not recognize the card. The ThinkVantage tools indicated that there is no WAN available. Is the SIM card slot indicate that I have WAN capability or do I need another device to make it work? Help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:MOBILE BROADBAND READY

welcome to the community. if i understand "mobile broadband ready" as defined by lenovo, you've got the sim card slot and the required wwan antennae installed, but... you don't have a wwan card. get a supported card and you should be good to go. hth.

Hi, I have a Thinkpad T400s (2808-CWG) with integrated Wireless Mobile Broadband originally on Vodafone. I have purchased O2 mobile broadband and successfully set-up the connection. OS was originally Vista but upgraded to Windows 7 using original Lenovo DVDs. The issue I'm having is that when the laptop goes to sleep and I want to turn on the Mobile Broadband via Fn+F5 after waking it up, Mobile Broadband is missing in the Radio column in the Wireless Radio Manager!!! What's more, bluetooth is OFF even if it is ON while going to sleep. If I restart the laptop, Mobile Broadband is back in the menu and all works fine. It's extremely annoying, both missing WWAN and the bluetooth issue. Please help!

I own T500 with Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband modem. I have a odd problem. I believe it is a compatibility issue of W7 and firewall softwares.I can create mobile broadband internet connection old fashion way using DialUp connection. Then F3507g acts just like any other modem. That is reliable way and everything works as expected. But if I use W7 Mobile Broadband (new feature of W7) - not DialUp - problems occur. My firewall software is not able to protect my system. It seems that most firewall softwares can not filter W7 Mobile Broadband connections. I have tested most of them. Only Windows Firewall and Norton Internet Security 2010 filters connections correctly and reliable. Do you have similar system? Can you please test your Mobile Broadband connection? Same results.I think you must use internal modem and W7 Mobile Broadband feature - no modem manufacture's software here for accesssing connections. Here are few of the internet services you can use: pcflank.com, grc.com, auditmypc etc. Please post here your results! I am interested to know. I have tested: outpost pro, comodo, onlinearmor, fsecure, norton, pctools, windows firewall .... To many to list here. Only two worked.

Hi,I just received a new X230 with pre-installed mobile broadband.  Everything appears to be set up--appropriate drivers, programs etc, however, there is no SIM card.  Was the computer supposed to ship with a pre-installed SIM?  If so, where can I get one--Lenovo or Macheen, the service provider?  Or, am I supposed to get one from a local provider?  I would like to be able to use Lenovo Mobile Access, and it is available here in Denmark. thanks,DRL

Answer:X230 mobile broadband

Hi, AFAIK you need to get a SIM from your Mobile provider.  I know of very few hardware suppliers that supplies Mobile Internet as well.  (Or at least in South Africa). Btw, when you do get the sim, check the manual for the correct way to insert the card. On my X220T, there was no image on the case to show where the angled corner needs to go. And since you have to remove the battery to change it everytime, it is a very time consuming process if you install the card incorrectly.

My friend has a compaq presario 2133ac laptop runnig xp home sp2. she has recently tried to install and use a huawei e1762 usb modem for 3g mobile broadband(blinkit, powered by optus). the thing won't save a default setup for apn(the default setting is static, but should be dynamic). I've changed this manually, but although it claims to have saved and set as default, it still goes back to static on restart. when I connect to the net, internet explorer starts searching, then I get the bsod. it cites BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER. the usb hub onboard is version 1, and the device is version 2.0. I'm stuck! Any ideas?

Answer:mobile broadband is a bytche

It would appear that this is an issue to do with the laptops outdated usb version 1 hub. the ladys bro' tried the modem on his desktop(version 2.0 hub, more RAM), and it worked no drama(still had to manually set the connection profile, though). got the mongrel working on the laptop, but very slowly. I'm thinking that only a RAM upgrade(currently 256MB - dismal!!!) & a new usb 2.0 hub on the cardbus will fix this. The modems manufacturer(Huawei) don't seem to have this model listed.

I am currently using a 30 day free subscription to Vodaphone mobile broadband and am considering paying in the longer run. However, while the Access Connections software tells me the data transfered for each connection, there seems to be no way to get total usage figures which I would need to ensure I do not exceed my limit. While I understand third party products such as NetMeter are available to do this, it would be good if a meter was incorporated by Lenovo into Access Connections. Nigel

Answer:Mobile broadband meter

Have you tried Vodafone tech support? I have a data account with them using a PCMCIA card that has a Vodafone connection manager. It logs data use on GSM and 3G as well as handling SMS messages. I doubt if this will work using the internal modem but they might have a version for it. Worth asking.

Hi,

I've been using 3's mobile broadband for a few month now and everything's been fine...until I decided to try a different web browser to see if it was any quicker. I downloaded the Apple browser and it was ok but nothing too special so i uninstalled it. Since that day, when I click the 'connect' button on my broadband window, it's started coming up with the error -

'The web browser application associated with connection '3connect' failed to start. Please check your browser application settings.'

It works fine if you leave this message up and open up IE, but if you click 'ok' then it says that connection has failed do you want to retry...I'm confused. I can't for the life of me figure out where I'm supposed to change this. Can anyone help me please.

Anyone use sprints mobile broadband? I'm curious to how their ping times are and how you like the service.. I currently have isdn and would like to upgrade to something faster, but satellite and sprint seem to be the only options that are available in my area at the moment.

When will dsl be available? Hell, can't get a straight answer from bellsouth so i'm about tired of waiting around.. My local cable company plays mafia with their coverage and refuse's to expand to my area reguardless of the fact that theres just 3.8miles between me and the last cable line.. Between me and that line, theres 75 plus house's.. Heh.. comcast sucks when it comes to stuff like that.

Anyways, run into any Fap ((fair access policy)) issues with sprint? Can you game with it? Least Wow or maybe eq2?

Hello guys!I've just buy a T420 model 4178-83g, i discover only now that is 3g upgrandable. witch 3g module can i install on it? i'm in Italy so i need a compatible module.i've also an edge 15 (model 301) with the 3g card, is this compatible with my new thinkpad?? thankyou very much!stefano

Answer:T420 mobile broadband

hey spiz,

http://bit.ly/rfYJV2 - this is a compatible 3G module for your T420.

Your Edge 15 that has the 3G card.. it is either a ThinkPad GOBI 2000 Broadband Option or a ThinkPad AT&T GOBI 2000 Broadband Option. Both of this would not work with your T420

Windows 10 Help says that I should have a Mobile connection link under Network and Internet, I don't. By luck I managed to connect my dongle because Windows saw it as a drive. I now need to be able to use the Mobile link in order to set my connection to metered so that I don't download updates and over-run my allowance. Because Windows now sees my mobile connection as an Ethernet connection I can't set it to metered. How do I tell Windows to offer me a metered connection (I've tried and failed to edit the registry, mainly because I'm too dim to know what I'm doing). From not being offered a mobile connection there are a whole series of other problems which can wait for another day.

Answer:T420 3G Mobile Broadband

Are you sure that your model got 3G? Some models are WWAN upgradable which means you have to buy and insert the 3G adapter. What is the model/type of your T420 (XXXX-YYY)?

Do you see the 3G adapter in device manager and no missing drivers?

hey all, first post so can i start by saying great forum. Have found loads of useful info on here, but this it the first time I couldnt find an answer.

My problem is this :

I have a ZTE MF627 modem with a mobile broadband sim from O2 in it. Everytime I insert the USB device and use the connection manager software to initiate the connection windows vista askes me to set a location for the network, and suffixes it with a number

eg set a location for the O2 (5) network :home, work , public.

The first time i connected it was simply o2 as this was the name of my network. The problem lies when I disconnect and reconnect. For some reason vista seems to recognize it as a NEW network as opposed to reconnecting to the old profile and again askes me to set a location and adds a number thus creating a new profile. Its simply an annoyance having to set my location each time, and periodically having to delete some network profiles, but I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this. Connecting in the same USB port seems to have no impact at all.

see here for a screenshot

any help greatfully received.

Doc

Answer:Mobile Broadband Issue

hi,
have you contacted o2 or visited their mobile technical support pages to see if there have been any other cases of this, or to see if there is an updated version of the connection manager that is compatable with your USB device.

They have NO fixed BT landline at home and don't want one installed. We've been pointed to Vodafone's mobile USB key deal for £15 per month. Seems fine for her needs. Are there any others we should look at and could be recommended please?

Will 3 mobile broadband work with Linux based Asus EE which I am thinking about getting. Have been told not in one shop but have seen some posts that say Linux does work on this network.

Answer:3 Mobile broadband and Asus EE

I think it would be more a case of compatible drivers being available than anything else , the drivers for Windows etc. are stored on the device itself , whether others are about for the Asus and it's brand of Linux , I really don't know . click here for some useful details and some drivers . Has anyone experienced problems with e mail page layouts when using Vodafone or T mobile dongles.I thought the problem was a new layout on my talktalk e mail page, but it seems to be only when I am working away from home & I use one of the mobile dongles. I have had the issue checked out with talktalk & it is not the talktalk e mail that's causing me to see a completely different layout than when I access e mail via my modem at home. The layout when using a mobile dongle is very basic & does not allow me to alter fonts, underline, do italics or even attachments etc. Very strange & frustrating & only started happening last Friday.Regards, CGM.

Can someone explain to me the difference between normal broadband v an offer I saw on T mobile. You don't need a telephone you're sent a USB modem.Need helpThanks

Answer:Difference between Broadband and T mobile usb m

you've summed it up yourself - you don't need a telephone/landline, therefore you aren't paying out for BT line rental, possibly just so you can use broadband on it.Another obvious advantage is the fact you can use it nearly anywhere. I say nearly as this is one of the drawbacks - I use T-mobile broadband via my phone as a modem....it works most of the time but I'd describe it as flakey. For example three days last week I had no access at all as the transmiter was down. Was visiting a friend in Manchester at the weekend and there was no 3G/HSDPA signal at all - now central Manchester is hardly the scottish highlands where you could expect poor service.....so you really need to investigate whether it's going to work, and how well it is - before you jump in.
