USB Headset not detected on Lenovo T500

Question: USB Headset not detected on Lenovo T500

A Plantronics Audio 478 USB Headset is not detected when connecting via one of the USB ports. My concern is that only the 3.5mm front mounted jacks can be used on the T500 for audio devices, can someone confirm please? thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: USB Headset not detected on Lenovo T500

Check to make sure it is enabled as the playback and record devices in audio settings (right click the speaker icon in the tray). If that doesn't work try another USB headset, there is no reason why you cannot use one. Although if it is a work machine it is possible that the USB ports have been disabled for security reasons.

Hey All, I'm having trouble with lenovo sound drivers since I just did a fresh install of windows 7 onto my T500. The audio worked before this reinstall and as soon as i did it, the sound stopped. The issue seems to be that there is no audio device at all in device manager, there is also no question mark, other devices either.  There is also a no audio output device pop up when i mouse over the speaker at the bottom of the taskbar. I have tried running the windows 7 audio driver from the lenovo website, at first it didn't work and gave a could not find a MEDIA device error but by putting all the files in one folder it did run but there was no devices in the selection box and it seemd to have no effect. I have tried updating all lenovo updates and all windows updates with multiple fresh installs. Everything i have done i have done as an admin and regardless i am completely unable to get an kind of audio device installed. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,Jared

Answer:Lenovo T500 Sound Card not detected

Hi and welcome to the forum Jared!

Try putting BIOS settings to default.

Also, try to boot from a LiveCD of any popular linux distro like Ubuntu, LInux etc. If you also don't get sound in linux, then this is probably hardware problem.

Keep us posted.

I have tried 2 different headsets using front ports of my computer. The headsets are detected by the computer and I can hear fine out of them, but no voice is detected. I have tried numerous tests and other small things, but nothing seems to work. The headsets are supposed to be working properly according to the system.

What do I do?

I have 2 headsets both from different companies, one from Andrea the other from Altec Lansing. I have them plugged into the front ports of my tower. My computer detects them both and says that they are working. However, I can hear out of them, but I cannot say anything. It does not hear me at all. I've tried various testing procedures and it doesn't detect anything.

What do I do?

Answer:Headset detected, not working (2nd headset)

Hi Cdn, The Vista default setting under audio and microphone is rear line in. Right Click the speaker
icon in your task bar or system tray. Click on the Recording tab at the top. Make sure that Front Mic.
is enabled and has a green check mark next to it. Click Apply and Okay. Try it now.

Hi, I'm having some difficulty in getting my bluetooth headset to work with Skype (or anything else for that matter). here's the current state of things: My headset is set up and paired as a "hands free audio device". In "my bluetooth places" it shows up with a good signal strength. Authorization is set to "headset" only (no audio gateway). The version of the Broadcom Bluetooth Software is 5.5.0.580  . Looks pretty ok - but unfortunately it shows neither up as an  audio device in the control panel (Win XP SP3) - nor does Skype recognize the headset. Maybe I'm overlooking something fundamental...? Any input would be appreciated. Thomas PS.: The headset works fine on my cellphone. And I can synchronize the cellphone with the laptop via Bluetooth, no problems there.Message Edited by ThBa on 03-15-2009 05:43 PM

Answer:Problem with T500, Bluetooth Headset, and Skype

AFAIK most of the bluethooth headsets for mobile phones don't work with a normal pc (nokia has one which works for both). Try to google a little, you find lots of problems about this!

I have a headset that worked before I reinstalled Windows XP, and the microphone on it doesn't work now. It records whatever is coming out of my speakers. I tried changing it in control panel to my microphone, and the only option if REaltek AC'97, which records my speakers. It's a Yapster headset that comes with no drivers, you're supposed to just plug it in and it'll work. Any help appreciated.

EDIT: Fixed this. I had to select line-in in the audio effects program from Control Panel.

My new T500 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 display adapter running Vista Ultimate on startup often (but not always) shows the message (with a choice window)  "New Display Detected"  even though no display (other than the notebook screen is present.  Windows Display Settings shows 4 diplays-- 2 for the internal Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset and two for the Radeon.   I am guessing that there might be some power savings in using the Intel "Monitor", but trying to activate any but one of Radeon monitors  never "sticks" (i.e., it always reverts to #3, the Radeon monitor at high resolution).  PC Doctor diagnostic shows no errors. This is more of an annoyance than anything, since the video seems to work fine.  But I don't know if it indicates something is messed up in the system that should be fixed.

Did you ever resolve this?  My new T500 with Vista seems to be doing the same thing.Dave

Hey there, so I have a gaming PC and I play a game called Day Z (the Standalone version, not the mod for Arma II). Anyways, there seems to be an issue where whenever I am using the microphone to chat whilst playing the game such as through Teamspeak or Steam Voice Chat, the whole headset stops working and becomes undetected by the PC. I have to fully close the game and the application that I am using to talk to my friend, in order for the headset to be detected again.
However, today closing the game and restarting the application did not fix the headset, and it is still undetected. I have unplugged the headset and plugged it back in to several different USB ports (It is a Siberia Elite gaming headset that plugs into its own sound card which plugs into a USB slot) all to no avail. This so far seems to only be an issue with Day Z in particular, as I haven't had problems speaking to people whilst running Minecraft, Battlefield 4, Skyrim, and various other games on my PC.
Typically I would just file this in the Day Z forums, but this appears to be more of a Win-7 Related issue.

Does plugging it into another pc cause it to be detected?

Hi here,

I just got a new computer with Vista. I'm trying to get a headset that I used on my old computer to work. The headset is a free one that came with some language learning software so there's no driver. In the sound manager, Vista detects the microphone as being plugged in - as a "Microphone/Line In - SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC", but no program notices any sound coming from it. It is set as the default microphone and it's enabled. It works on my old computer still. Is there anyone that could help me get this working?

Many thanks,

Tim

Answer:Headset microphone detected but won't work

Hi tjm, welcome to the vista forums

may seem a bit basic but have you checked the levels, right click on the sound icon in the tray and select recording devices - click on your microphone and check on the levels tab.

hopefully it's that simple have seen new installs with either very low or muted mic channels

Hello everyone! I recently got a new "Creative Fatal1ty" Headset and it doesn't seem to be detected at all! I have 2 cables to plug in to the laptop, 1 for audio and 1 for microphone, but on my HP laptop there is only one hole for a cable! I plugged in both cables at different times but neither of them seem to be detected at all. I tried on my family's public pc, which is a dell, and it works perfectly fine. What is the problem here? I payed some money for this headset and laptop and this is quite annoying. Please solve this.

My husband and I sent our Lenovo T500's in for minor repairs, his for a slight wobble of the screen or LCD and slightly worn keys on keyboard from normal use.  Mine for intermitent issues with USB, DVD and overheating of machine.  Both machines are still covered under the 3 year, original Lenovo warranty.  BOTH machines were returned to us with serious damage to the left hinges and lower left side of the casing and frame of the LCD monitor, inhibiting proper closure or use of machines.  Coincidence?  When we spoke to  Lenovo, the operators and supervisor commented that it appeared the machine had been 'dropped'.  However, neither machine has been dropped by us, nor is there evidence of such on the exterior of the machines - no cracks, dents, scrapes or the like that would be present if such had occured.  My machine was returned "repaired" with no mention of the damaged condition it was returned in.  My husbands machine was returned, upon our request due to Lenovo's wanting to charge us over $900 to repair, with even worse damage, left hinge completely severed, wires pulled out, LCD disconnected on left side of machine. I have spoken with a supervisor and several representatives at Lenovo to no avail. We would like our machines repaired.  And at the very least to be returned in the same working condition they were before the... I am at a loss right now since I have never encountered a problem with a computer that I couldn't solve at all. On my T500 (2081CTO), I had an XP OS and everything was working fine (almost). I decided to install the original Vista that came with it and at the same time updated the BIOS to the latest version, I think 3.18, before I installed Visa Home Basic. After the install, there is no wireless adapter deteced. I can't get any internet without a cable. If you have any USB devices plugged in near the jack, try moving them to USB port further away.     Also check to be sure you have a properly grounded outlet, as it could be what is referred to as a ground loop..    You can also get what is called a ground loop isolator such as the one below to plug between your headphone and the jack, and that might help too. Mpow Ground Loop Noise Isolatorhttp://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Ground-Isolator-System-Stereo/dp/B019393MV2/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=U... Good Luck

Ok I know this sounds crazy but i received 2 new Creative Fatal1ty headsets in the post yesterday. Proceeded to turn off my 2 Gladiator Titan Systems ( both running Win XP Pro Sp3 btw (i forgot to include that in my details when i registered)) and pluged in the new headsets. When i came to turn the systems back on BOTH systems wouldn't boot both showing an identical couldn't find system disk message. Checked in the BIOS and neither is detecting the HDD's. Both PC's were running perfectly up until i pluged in the new headsets, in fact I shut them both down to plug them in so the fault wasn't there up until that point.
If anyone has any ideas what could have caused the problem or how to remedy it i'd be most appreciative.
Thanks In Advance

Ralph

I should probably add that the BIOS still detects the optical drive just not the HDD.

Answer:Solved: Sata drive no longer detected after conecting headset???

After a lot of reading i'm guessing i've contracted a BIOS virus (never even knew you could get a virus that effected the BIOS).
Working on steps to remedy this now, ie
1/.remove M/B battery discharge power
2/.Replace battery
3/.flash bios
4/.Format MBR and delete partitions
5/.Reinstall everything

Obviously won't be doing steps 4 & 5 unless i get to see the HDD again after the 1st 3, but heres hoping.

I'll post the results of how it turns out as soon as i know.

I've recently bought a Lenovo Y50 Touch and it has the combo headset/microphone jack. I've been trying to use earbuds with a microphone built in, like iPhone ones along with other brands, but when I try to use the microphone in calls, it's very low. Even when I blow into it I barely see the sound levels rise when I check it on Skype. Is it the type of earbuds I'm using? Is there a setting I need to change? I've tried 4 different brands so far and the microphone has been really low on all of them.

Question: BSOD - Lenovo T500

Hi Gents,

I'm getting a stop 0x0000008E BSOD on startup. I'll get past the login screen, but after a few minutes the BSOD will pop up. Also, none of the icons for my taskbar shortcuts appear -- I just get that "white piece of paper" showing up. I have not installed any new hardware or software lately. I'm on a Lenovo T500 with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 video card. This laptop is 3 years old and originally came with XP -- I upgraded to 7 roughly 8 months ago and have not reinstalled the OS since then. I have never made hardware changes to the laptop.

The dump is attached. I could not get the system health report to run -- I received an error saying that the specified path could not be found.

Thanks very much in advance,

It looks like a nice machine. It will certainly do the kinds of things you mention and more. Whether it is a good buy depends on how much you are paying and things like battery condition, installed OS, etc

Hello, i just wanted to know some insight on the t500. I found one that im thinking of buying, mainly cause i can upgrade ram to 8gb and it has newer stuff like sata instead of pata for the hdd and cd drive. But one thing im worried about is , this screen flicker i have been hearing about going to be a major problem. The t500 has switchable graphics so i head that the intel integrated gfx has the flicker problem but the deticated ati card in the laptop doesn't so i could run just off of the ati card and not the intel chipset. I heard that doing this pulls more power but i don't CARE, i just want a newer laptop that is faster than my t41 and it wont destroy the bank for a quality laptop.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T500

Screen flicker is most pertinent to the LED backlit models but is only visible if you are sensitive to flicker and only in certain viewing conditions. If you get a CCFL backlit one, you should not experience any flicker, but the backlight will be dimmer

We like to always have a hot-spare of a laptop shell so we can swap the drive over and then ship back defective shell for Warranty Repair.  Question: If I take a hard-drive (with Windows 7) from a Lenovo T500 and place it in a T510, will it work flawlessly without needing a bunch of changes, or do I need to purchase a T510 spare? Hopefully theT510 works just fine, but wanted to inquire.  Thanks. Paul

Answer:Lenovo T500 vs T510

the system is different enough, you may need to reactivate the Win 7 OS when you switch HDD, and then reinstall the drivers. I haven't personally tried this, but this is what happened when i switched hdd from T400 to the T61 with Vista OS.

I have a T500 running Win7 that was having fan and battery issues. I opened her up and reseated fan. All was good, and heard the fan spin up, but the laptop will no longer stay on for more than a minute. I replaced the battery, and reseated the CMOS battery. Still no luck. Try to get into BIOS but I can only enter a portion of the date before she goes down. All indicator lights are off, she is basically like my ex wife in bed. I have to remove the battery, remove power for 20 seconds and reinsert to even get it to power on again, but she doesn't last long. What gives?

I've got a buddy who just ordered an SSD for his T500. He bought an XP disk some time ago to install fresh, because he doesn't just want to clone the drive, and he didn't get the install disk from Lenovo, and there seems to be no way to grab the XP install files from the current hard drive's recovery partition (no drive letter).

With this regular XP disk, he is getting the dreaded stop message before setup even finishes starting up. While I haven't seen the screen myself to confirm, he has written down one of the numbers, 0x0000007B, which is inaccessible boot device. I've seen that before on controllers which were in AHCI mode where there were no AHCI drivers present. So, my best guess is that he needs to set his controller to legacy mode, or slipstream the drivers into the XP install disk. He tried the latter, but even his slipstreamed disk blue screened. He said he grabbed all the drivers from Lenovo's site and slipstreamed the drivers and SP3 into the new disk (original disk is SP2 only) using nLite. edit: looks like he slipstreamed the drivers incorrectly, they're just on the disk in a folder full of EXEs. That would be why.

He is still using the laptop with his old drive in the meantime, but has given me the XP disk and the SSD to make sure the XP disk itself isn't bad and that the SSD actually works. I ran through a quick XP install and everything went fine on my desktop, so I'm pretty sure it has to be an AHCI/driver... Read more

Answer:Installing an SSD into a Lenovo T500

He needs to install the text mode mass storage controller driver. It will have a file named oemsetup.txt. If it doesn't have that file it won't work.

I'm not very familiar with nlite, but check and see if there is a special place for text mode drivers. They are special when it comes to booting in text mode.

I have read that SSD drives are the best hard drives to get. What is the advantage? Also, can I install a 480GB SSD drive in a Lenovo T500? The specs say 320GB max, but I've read on here that any SATA Har drive will work.Do I need to buy an adapter, or can I just stick it in the hard disk bay, or do I have to get the adapater for the ultrabay?I was reading this thread and I found it confusing: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Thinkpad-T500-2243-upgradeable-to-a-SSD-SAT...

Answer:Can a Lenovo T500 handle SSD?

SSDs are simply much faster. If it has the form factor of a standard 2.5" drive, it will fit and work. You would reuse your existing caddy and rails. An SSD is theoretically more reliable, but my experience has been that normal drives fail slowly while an SSD simply dies suddenly

Hello Lenovo Community!Recently, I bought a Lenovo T500. After much research and reading many user's opinions as possible (two of which that was really helpful was on this forum by MidnightSun and www.notebookreview.com) I chose the T500. In my research, I could not find many video reviews and was kind of disappointed (obviously, it was not a deal breaker.) I would have liked to have had more written reviews, video reviews and just in general more information. So, I want to do this review to help future researchers become informed consumers! If anyone has any questions or suggestions (e.g.. Of bloatware to remove or any tips) please chime in!  PrefaceBefore I begin my review, I want to say that I am in no way an expert at computers beyond the basics. I've never bought a laptop before, and my old computer (given to me) was a Gateway M465-e, a business oriented laptop. It came with 512 RAM, 1.6 Ghz, 15.4" screen and I really liked it. It lasted me 5.5 years (and still going) although the past few months, it has really taken a dip (hence the reason for buying a new one!) I will be comparing my experiences with the T500 with that Gateway. I will be using my computer for mainly working with spreadshett, word documents, surfing internet, media hub (especially for iTunes), and, OF COURSE, playing video games! Hi -Stopping Camera StartupIf you wish to stop the webcam from activating on startup in Windows XP or Vista, delete the software's shortcut from your Startup folder. Access the folder in the "Programs" section of the Start menu. If your camera software does not have a shortcut in the folder, access the "Run" dialog box, type "msconfig" and press "Enter." A configuration utility will appear. Disable the software from the "Startup" tab of the window. The link from where I found this Information

My system is crashing several times a day and I need your help in figuring out why.

I have the Windows 7 RTM build installed on a Lenovo T500. The only hardware I've customized is replacing the 160 GB drive with a 320 GB drive.

The system specs are

Lenovo T500
Core 2 Duo T9600 @ 2.8 Ghz
4 GB RAM
2 GB Turbomeory
ATI Mobile Radeon 3650
Intel Wifi 5300 agn
Integrated camera, bluetooth, and WWAN

I am running the latest BIOS: 3.01-1.03.

The laptop came with Vista 32-bit, but I immediately installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit on the 320 GB drive. I had occasonal BSOD's in Vista, mostly while running on battery, and not often enough to be completely annoying (once a week or so).

Since I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, the BSODs are pretty regular (several times a day).

With the exception of two drivers, the only ones I've installed are from Windows 7 or Windows Update. The two I installed were from the Lenovo Windows 7 beta drivers web site to resovle the "unknonw driver" indication in the Devices control panel for a device labeled "PCI Simple Communications Controller" and another similarly named (sorry I didn't write down the exact name).

Below is the WinDBG "analyze" output from the full memory dump. All the dumps look exactly the same: "BugCheck D1, {22, 2, 8, 22}" and the stack trace is the same.

At this point, I don't know what my next steps should be to determine what the issues are. Unfortunately, if I don... Read more

I have my T500 loaded with W7 PRO 64. It came with Vista Ultimate 32. I have a list of the drivers and apps that came with the Vista preload. Is there a list or cross reference some where that I can use to make sure I got all the pieces and parts of software needed to run W7 64 bit PRO? Or is it just a matter of seeing what was on Vista in the 32 bit format and making sure it's on W7 in a 64 bit format? For instance I'm really gonna miss the "Lenovo Welcome" app that came on the Vista preload, but it ain't going on the W7 system. However the Bluetooth drivers are a must. TIA for any help.Bob Helms

Do I need to do anything to take advantage of Lenovo Enhanced Experience 1.0/2.0 on my T500 with Win7 x64?  Since the machine is being configured by my company's IT department, I don't know whether they properly setup the laptop with this Lenovo Enhanced Experience.  I assume the this enhanced experience should improve the performance of Win7 on Lenovo laptop, right?

Answer:Lenovo Enhanced Experience 1.0/2.0 and T500

From my gut feel, you are not missing anything much. I got one of these with EE and the laptop also has Intel SSD inside. The EE from what I 'think' I know from reading all those lenovo ads is the bootup time of the laptop, the rest is er, the advantage of lenovo thinkvantage software eg Think Access, blue button etc. With a SSD, the bootup time is hardly noticeable in seconds with EE and without EE, maybe 1 second? I had tried EE and also a clean install of window 7 (without EE) and I didn't notice much of a difference. So if your T500 is window 7 and has SSD or a fast 7200rpm harddisk, I don't think there is much difference with EE1.0.   I am NOT too sure regards EE2.0 as I haven't tried it yet.

Hi all,

I have just tried to tilt my screen on my Lenovo T500 and heard a crack which popped part of the lower left screen bezel out. I have removed the bezel and found that the left hinge has seized, causing it to snap away from the magnesium roll cage. The left hand hinge is extremely difficult to move by hand which I find extremely strange as the laptop has been fine up until now.

Does anybody know whether Lenovo will be of any assistance with this as this is the first time I have ever seen this on any of my Thinkpad's and was the last thing I expected to fail on this laptop. The laptop has never been mistreated and has always been stored away in a laptop bag when not in use. How expensive are the parts to repair this as the screen is fine; it is looking like a new hinge and possibly a complete roll cage for the screen. I can't really afford to be without it at present as I am currently studing Computer Science at University and exams are approaching quickly...

I have provided some photos of the damage

Answer:Lenovo T500 Hinge Seized

If you are still under warranty, they should fix it, but you are unlikely to get any help if it is not. What is your screen resolution? You will need a frame, a hinge and a screen bezel at least. You might be better off buying a used screen assembly on eBay

Lenovo is making our company look very unprofessional.  I am embarrassed to admit that something "approved" by IBM would be sold with so many different bugs.  It is not all Lenovo's fault, as we are all aware of the horrible Vista incompatibilities. As of 11/24/2008 - Intel offered a driver update for their wireless card that would cause the DHCP NACK renewal operationto fail and leave the system in a stale state without network connectivity.  At first the BSOD was caused by NETw5v32.sys which has been resolved by the latest Intel driver for the Wireless unit, 5100 AGN adapter.  Now NETIO.SYS and ntkrnlpa.exehave been causing the BSOD especially after going into Hibernation, and then going back into the OS. I am exhausted, and have exhausted my resources to resolve this issue that no one seems to want to discuss. Is there any professionals out there who have also experienced this issue and found a solution? Thanks in advanced - and for allowing me to vent... Justin

Hi there. I'm getting some really wonky performance and visual anomalies in games such as Company of Heroes, which in terms of technical requirements should be no hurdles - older games also show some weird hiccups, where they really shouldn't. As 3DMark/Futuremark won't work on my computer, I have no actual way of seeing exactly how my computer is performing. Though I'm positive that there's a whole lot of FPS to get. There are ways in finding and using drivers that aren't the manufacturer's; e.g. Omegadrivers or modified Ati drivers. For some reason, the modified drivers don't work, as the Ati setup is unable to detect the Radeon Mobility card. I guess this is due to the switchable graphics - before beforehand, on other laptops, I've had no problems getting this to work.  If anyone has had any success in modifying drivers on a Thinkpad such as the T500 (with switchable graphics Ati and Intel), please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Exuviate, Welcome to SF,

Looking at the Dump file i guess the problem is with your NETw5s64.sys Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN adapter. You could remove the existing driver and download the latest drivers from Intel not from Windows Update

I have installed the 10.3 preview drivers about 6 hours ago and put the system through some hard usage, I have the integrated display disabled with only the discrete turned on, and the 10.3 drivers are excellent and install without modification to the driver package.  The system is running much cooler under heavy graphics load (playing wow) and my frame rate has improved dramatically.   On battery power my estimated battery life remaining has even increased slightly  (I get about 7-8 hours with browsing only on my t500 with brightness stepped down slightly and my optical drive turned off).  Overall it is great, and should be heading our way in mid March!  I'm fairly certain this driver will still not function properly for people using switchable graphics, though it is possible lenovo will release a switchable driver based off these newer catalysts..  it has certainly improved performance for me.

Answer:ATI Catalyst 10.3 + Lenovo T500 (ATI 3650)

Confirmed on a W500: this ATI Catalyst 10.3 Preview does not work if installed on a machine without current Catalyst drivers. The drivers and ancilliary programs all install, but the Catalyst Control Centre cannot start (not a crash, just no response), nor are there any menu entry points to switch graphics chips. If installed over the current 2009/08 catalyst drivers, then installation is partly succesful: the ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 is recognized just as an ATI Mobility 3650 HD, the new switchable graphics features work, such as sub-2 second switchover between graphics chips, as well as switchover when the power source changes, but the power/brightness management is messed up: inconsistant brightness change response to events specified in the power manager. I didn't test further useful features like the virtual desktops, multiple monitor management, etc. The ATI Catalyst 10.3 release in March will introduce significant and wide support for most of its OEM Mobility chipsets, which have never been a part of regular ATI Catalyst releases. Only Panasonic, Sony and Acer have opted out of this support. Let's hope Lenovo does not do so as well, and works to have the FireGL V5700 properly supported! P.S. 10.3 is also supposed to support audio on DisplayPort--not that I have any DisplayPort monitor, but this has been a gripe of people about the ThinkPad DisplayPort implementation.

Hi. I have a strange problem, my Lenovo T500 with intel and Ati graphis card can boot only when it's cold. When it boot I can normaly use my laptop ( office, internet browser, even play games skyrim, minecraft, gta 4), but when i restart computer only two LED's are on ( standard power LED and conected to PSU). I tried to switch to intel graphis but this problem still became. Please help

Answer:Lenovo T500 only cold boot

Hi, Serwatka

What OS are you running? To better determine what is causing this issue, do you have a bootable CD or another hard drive that you can try to boot from? If so, then I would try changing the boot order to boot from something other then the normal hard drive first. Boot as normal into Windows, then restart the machine and see if you can boot in the other method. This could show what exactly is causing the error, or at least give a good indication of what could be causing the issue.

If the above method is not possible, or if it does not work, then I would run some hard drive diagnostics such as ChkDsk to check the health of your drive.

Thanks in advance,
Adam

Hey guys, I bought a top of the line Lenovo T500 (my third Lenovo) last week and I've never been any more disappointed. After having series of problems, now I noticed the reason my laptop freezes is because of the slightest movement. For instance, if I'm watching a DIVX movie or a DVD on the train it keeps pausing. If it's on a desk with the power cord plugged in it, it's much better. I ran the same DIVX on both my $699 Toshiba (3 months ago) and this powerful laptop and Toshiba ran it flawlessly. Any idea why my system would be pausing so much? I called their support, and it passed on the diagnosistic tests. ThanksMaz

Answer:Lenovo T500 freezing issues

you probably need to adjust the sensitivitey of ThinkVantage Active Protection System. If everything is OK when the system is on a desk, but not when moving around, this is very probably the cause.

About a year ago, my Lenovo Thinkpad T500 was overheating constantly and would shut off during gameplay. Eventually, one day it stopped coming back on.I would turn it on, the lights would flicker and it wouldn't come back on. Here's a video of the light display: http://vimeo.com/89316779I've since bought a new laptop, however I miss using this laptop and hope to fix it.Now, this year, when plugged in, or battery inserted, the lights come on without me pressing the power button. They also come on, on the DVD drive. There's also a sound from the DVD drive, so maybe it is from the drive powering on, and then it shuts off. Then does this again, in an infinte loop. I don't know if it is even charging as it keeps flickering on and off. I've tried unplugging the CMOS battery, removing the RAM (got no beep) and I am just confused.I also tried the static discharge trick I've read about here, in the forums.Apparently when I hold down the power button, the loop stops and just the light of the adapter remains on. So stumped. Can anyone offer any help? It'd be much appreciated.

I received a Lenovo T500 return from an old employee, and it seems the touchpad has worn out. Though it doesn't seem to be a normal problem. I boot the device into Win 7 x64 and everything is fine. I can use the touchpad to navigate around, and I can use both the right click on the bottom, and the right click above the touchpad. When I try and left click nothing happens. I use the lower left click; nothing, upper; nothing, tapping on the touchpad itself; nothing. I updated the driver of the touchpad which installs the UltraNav tab in Control Panel > Mouse. Everything in there responds to the touchpad. I unscrewed the wrist guard, to see if a ziff connection had come undone, everything seems fine. What could the problem be? Has anyone seen this sort of problem before? Any idea of a solution or do I need to just buy a new piece (touchpad board? wrist guard?)? BTW: this does not have the fingerprint scanner, but it does have the trackpoint.

Answer:Lenovo T500 Touchpad Problems

We have several Lenovo T500 with the Intel 5300 AGN Wirless card. We use the latest drivers from Lenovo System Update. We have updated also the BIOS, Power Management and Hotkeys. We use Windows XP SP3 with the latest hotfixes. We have the problem, that the T500 connects to the accesspoint but does not always receive a IP address. After several reboots it always works. We have T60, T61 notebooks running which do not have this problem. What can we do to make wireless work more reliable with T500 notebooks?

Answer:Lenovo T500 - Wireless Problem

I had the same problem with my T400 running Vista.  Any time the network changed the first attempt at connection came up w/out an IP address.  A reboot fixed it - until next time. What solved it was downgrading to a 5100.  This was suggested by a Lenovo 2nd-tier tech after trying a different 5300. I hope there's an easier fix, but this is what finally worked for me. Z.

Hey guys, My T500 turned out to be a lemon and they finally took it back (Wifi issues, mouse & keyboard issues). So once they credit me the money, I'll probably put in another order to Lenovo (since my previous experiences have all been pretty good). I have a questions though, on Lenovo's website (canada) they only have 4 hard drive options. I really like to go for the 7200 RPM but 200 Gigs is not a lot. Anyone knows if they have any other harddrives that they would add that's not part of the web customization tool? e.g. 320 Gigs 7200 RPM?  ThanksMaz

Answer:Questions regarding Lenovo T500 or T400

Hi Maz, I don't know if there are any hidden drive options, but I always order by phone so I can ask about things like that - and hidden discounts  What I did with my T400 was order the least expensive drive and migrate to a 320G 7200RPM Hitachi.  Right now the HTS723232L9A360 is only $59.98US at NewEgg after rebate. Amazing.  In my "T" that unit runs quiet and cool.  We shall see about reliability - I remember the "deathstar" days... If you go this route, don't forget to fire up the stock OS and drive first thing and make the factory recovery media.  Use that to install to the new drive. HTH,Z. Message Edited by zoltanthegypsy on 02-14-2009 03:08 PMMessage Edited by zoltanthegypsy on 02-14-2009 04:11 PM

I have a ThinkPad T500 running Ubuntu 15.10 and it currently has 2x1 GB of Micron DDR3 RAM, I wanted to upgrade the RAM, and bought G.Skill 2x4 GB. When I installed the G.Skill, my machine won't recognize it. From the specs that I am reading, the only difference is in clock speed, the G.Skill has a higher clock speed, but should clock down to match my machine.  Any suggestions?

Answer:Upgrading RAM on Lenovo ThinkPad T500

Faster generally will not matter. Is it possible you bought low (1.35) voltage?

I have recently bought a Lenovo Y40 for playing games and recording with commentary. I have tried to use Open Broadcasting Software and XSplit but neither of them have recognized my HyperX Cloud's microphone however, they recognized the output to the Clouds. Then, I checked the Y40's audio software (Realtek) and I couldn't find place to see what devices that I have used for audio or any settings to fix my problem but I definitly didn't see anything about an external mic. My headset works just fine because I tested it on my previous laptop with OBS and it worked perfectly so it is not a problem with OBS or XSplit. Please help because recording was one of the main points for getting this notebook. Also, I wish notebook companies would stop making audio jacks with input and output in the same jack because they are a pain in the butt with the need of an adapter (which I have) as well as other various issues. Please help!

My brother has a ThinkPad T500 which has suddenly been afflicted by a reboot loop. He was watching a video on it, then he went to eat breakfast. When he returned to his laptop, it had restarted and was running some Startup Recovery process. After that finished, it just went on to continue the boot, loading up Windows. Unfortunately, 30 seconds to a minute after logging in, it restarts again, and it just keeps on going. Some times, it will reboot before it has even given a chance to log in. We even tried to restore the system to factory settings, according to the instructions, by pressing the ThinkPad blue button, but it turned out that option was not available. Can anyone help? Have some idea? We would be very grateful.

Answer:Lenovo ThinkPad T500 on reboot loop

Do you have a Windows 7 disk? You could reinstall off of that.It is nice he got to keep the notebook though :).You've been helped by a 14 year old.

I just download all of the updates and when I go to set up my fingerprint software I get an error reading- Fingerprint Enrollment! The connected sensor was not initialized by the application. Access denied. I have no reason why its happening; could anyone help me please?

Answer:Lenovo T500 Fingerprint Sensor won't initialized

Hi,unfortunately I cannot see your Windows version, so can you please specify it?Can you also please configrm, that you have installed one of the following Fingerprint applicaitons:Windows 7 (64-bit) v3.3.2.27Windows 7 (32-bit)   v3.3.2.27Windows Vista (64-bit), XP (64-bit) v3.3.2.27Windows Vista (32-bit), XP  v3.3.2.27 I have seens such error messages in the past and by most of them it was due to the fact, that there was  a wrong Fingerprint version installed. In your case, as you are using the Authentec Fingerprint, you also need to make sure, that you have installed the Authentec software and not the UPEK FPR software. In case you have one of the above versions installed, then I would advice to go into BIOS and clear the FPR chip, just to make sure, that the data is cleear and you can use the FPR sensor. Please keep me posted on this situation. Cheers

I have a 42 inch Sharp LCD TV, and a Lenovo T500 laptop running windows 7 as my main OS. I use VGA to connect to my TV. Any attempt to display 1920 by 1080 on my TV results in my TV telling me to switch to 1600 by 1200 because the video mode is not supported. 1920 by 1080 works fine on windows XP, same machine, same TV.

Games would not run well at 1920 by 1080, so I've ignored it up till now (because I tried several times and cannot get it to work). I like 1920 by 1080 for writing code though. Any way to fix this?

video card:
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Switchable graphics is currently disabled.

Windows 7 version: release candidate (it's free) (32 bit, yay for unused RAM)

other specs similar to this

Answer:Lenovo T500 + VGA output = 1920 by 1080 not possible?

You say it works in XP, so go into XP and check what refresh rate you have it set to at 1920 x 1080.

Go back into Win 7 and set the same refresh rate for the tv at 1920 x 1080 and see if that does the trick.

Hello, I have a lenovo t500 that i absolutely love. For me its the right combination of new performance and old features.  Anyway I am using my laptop to tune my vehicle and i need a serial port. Either the 2503 or the 2504 docking station will give me that feature. I am interested in the 2503 docking station for the pcie slot. I was wondering if these docking stations need to be plugged in in order to use the serial port? The 2503 looks pretty beefy and with its own fan i am concerned it needs to be plugged into a power supply in order to use it. The 2504 is a lot slimmer and i am hopping i can dock my laptop into it and use the added ports without having the docking station plugged in. So can i plug my laptop into either of these docks and use it off the laptops battery. Also i see on ebay people have some docks cheaper but they are missing the key. What is the point of the key? is it so someone cant seperate the docking station and the laptop. If the key is missing can i still use the docking station? Thanks

Answer:lenovo T500 windows xp how to partition harddrive

Hi, guys.Maybe you should get a bootable CD first(like XP steup CD or WinPE CD), or make a bootable USB harddisk in the XP that can boot the computer into DOS system. Make sure your USB disk has enough free space as much as the used in your C driver. Then you can download Symantec Ghost and Partition Magic DOS version software, and cpoy them into USB harddisk. Then boot your computer into DOS, and use the Ghost software backup your C driver as partition to file and save the GHO file in the USB harddisk. Then go back to DOS  environment and use Partition Magic to split your harddrive into two. Notice that your new C driver should have enough space to be restored the OLD C driver files, I suggest that about 20G to 40G. And also don't forget to activate your new C driver as active partition in the Partition Magic software. Then go back to DOS  environment and use Ghost to restore the GHO file to your new C driver as file to partition. Finally restart your computer. Hope you could be success. Maybe before you do that, you should learn some basic skill about Symantec Ghost and Partition Magic DOS version sofeware and the basic command of DOS system. But it will be easy and lots of use guide in the internet.Message Edited by Yangguo on 10-22-2008 12:58 PM

Good evening People. I have a bit of a problem with the bluetooth device module in Windows XP.  It is a T500, type: 2056 laptop that gives "the device could not be found" error in the Bluetooth device diagnostics.  I replaced the bluetooth device module and it still cannot pick up the bluetooth module.  The drivers for the module are installed in device manager and it says that the device is working properly, but yet it cannot find or pick up the module.  The bluetooth module is enabled in the bios as well...... Any suggestions?? Wazzy808

I have sitting on my desk a Lenovo T500 that I'm trying to repair. After some troubleshooting I concluded the harddrive failed. This is easy enough to fix, I have installed a replacement drive, but I can't read the Windows product key that is stickered on the bottom of this unit as all the text seems to have worn off.How can I go about retrieving a valid Windows activation key? I believe it origonally came with Vista but was later upgraded by Lenovo to Windows 7 on the count of some program?

Answer:Lenovo T500 Windows product key retrieval.

Did you create the Vista recovery media? Were you given a Windows 7 upgrade key?

I have a five year old T500 with stock everything and it desperately needs an upgrade. I use my computer for programming and heavy duty things like that so I need a new processor and usb 3.0 and all the trimmings. I have no idea where to get parts, if I even can get new ones that will fit in my comp. Notes: I do have a graphics card, and I need lenovo parts.

Answer:Lenovo T500 Core Components Upgrade

The best processor you can fit into the T500 is the Core 2 Duo T9900. The easiest way to add USB 3.0 is via ExpressCard but this won't give you full USB 3.0 bandwidth. Your best bet for these parts is probably eBay. These are also generic accessories, not Lenovo specific. The graphics card isn't upgradable, however.

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate the extremely quiet cooling fan in the T500. I've used a 600X, a T42, an X60 and a T60, and while those are all great machines, the fan noise was the thing I liked least about them. I ended up undervolting and installing fan control software in an only partially successful effort to eliminate fan noise. (Most successful with the T42: I cut a large retangular chunk out of its dock to provide airflow and put a low-speed 120mm fan below the dock blowing up through the hole in the dock onto the bottom of the T42. That keeps the internal fan off except during the most cpu intensive tasks.) But back to the T500:it is the first ThinkPad (or any laptop for that matter) that I've used where I can hardly tell whether the fan is on or off. At high fan speeds I can tell, but even then the noise is very smooth, just a soft whooshing with none of the whining noise that every other small fan seems to make. And almost all of the time the fan is running at its lowest (practically inaudible) speed, or is off entirely. Kudos to the engineering team in charge of the T500's fan and cooling system!

Answer:T500 super-quiet cooling fan: well done Lenovo!

How long have you had your laptop?  I had the same wonderful experience at first - but the noise has picked up considerably; much to my dissapointment.  I think this actually started after some BIOS update.  Would be interesting to hear if your fan has kept quiet for a long time after you got the laptop. Creds

Hi there, My personal laptop is Lenovo ThinkPad T500, and its main specifications as follows: - Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9400 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2).- 4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM).- ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 with 256MB. I really need to upgrade the RAM in order to work with SharePoint 2010 and Windows Server 2008 R2. and, my major question is: * How many memory slots do I have in my Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ??? I read on (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-55644#t) that the maximum memory size for T500 is 8 GB. So, in case if my Lenovo ThinkPad T500 laptop has only two memory slots, then, I will have to buy 2 memory cards of ThinkPad 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 Low-Halogen SO-DIMM in order to get the 8 GB.... and I have to throw away my current memory cards... My another question is: * How easy is it to install/remove RAM in Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ??? Sorry for asking the second question, but I have never ever dealt with hardware before. I would greatly appreciate your inputs. Thanks for your consideration of my request, and I very much look forward to hearing from you soon !

Answer:Some Issues with Upgrading RAM on Lenovo ThinkPad T500 ?

The T500 only has two RAM slots, so upgrading to 8GB would mean that your existing two 2GB modules would need to be removed. Replacing the RAM is simple; remove the four screws for the palmrest and the memory slots will be right under the palmrest.Refer to the HMM for more detailed instructions: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70068.html

since it is within 2 weeks of you receiving the laptop, if you can lenovo support in Australia, they will ship you out the Recovery media for your system for free usually within 2 to 3 days, just tell them that your recovery partition is corrupted and you were not able to make the recovery media in time.

I am trying to enable the use of a Telex USB headset.  The headset is recognized and configured.  When I try to place a call over Vonage talk I am able to dial and connect however the call receiver can not hear me.  I have installed the software and the headset on another laptop and desktop and it worked fine.  My assumption is that there is an issue with the hardware or configuration of my laptop. Anyone have any ideas?

Hey guys so I have this weird issue with my bose headset. When I connect my bose headset to my pc it installs all the drivers perfectly fine. I checked out the audio on youtube and everything is A-okay. No microphone is activated. But when I disconnect my headphones and reconnect my headphones to my pc's bluetooth it has this "hands-free audio" going on...it sounds like I can hear both the video(in low quality) as well my microphone and it's really really annoying to listen to. Like I can hear myself breath, type or tap anything. Any sound I make is recorded by my microphone and is also included in the audio. Also the sound quality is really poor from any video, compared to when I first paired it before reconnecting. I try disconnecting my headset's microphone and it still has the "hands-free audio" where I hear the video and my microphone...how do i fix this? It's really annoying. My headphone has these two optionshttp://imgur.com/SaIk20i So it looks like it supports both stereo and handsfree audio..The thing is, it looks like only my handsfree is installed onto my device list. http://imgur.com/7qZN68E This has never happened before, I only had this issue after I had to reinstall my bluetooth driver. Will my Thinkpad X-1 Yoga allow me to  use a headset that incorporates a USB port?  Best Buy had no single plug, 4-pole headsets, but sold me a Logitech h390 USB headset saying that it should work.  Waiting to open package until I can verify that this laptop allow the USB connection.  Can anyone provide the answer?   [Am frustrated........my 'older' desktop has dual plugs for a headset]

Answer:Lenovo Yoga Thinkpad - Headset issues

Good day and welcome to the community.I can't comment on the USB headset question, but if you've got an older, dual-plug headset that you'd like to use, then you might explore getting a combo-jack splitter as described in this KB article: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/Microphone-Headset-Jack-splitter-neede...

Hope this helps a bit.Regards.
