T420 touchpad dies randomly

Question: T420 touchpad dies randomly

Hi! T420 touchpad dies and trackpoint keeps on working. Sometimes after some time the trackpoint may also die. After boot, touchpad & trackpad recovers and is working maybe for an hour, or a day. Then it reoccurs. This happens randomly on some T420's, while other T420's doesnt encounter it never-ever. Any tips how to troubleshoot this one? Ran Lenovo PC Doctor and everything is fine, also cant find anything suspicious in Windows logs. Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T420 touchpad dies randomly

Hi eskoj

Try to run System Update and update all BIOS and drivers to see if the problems persist.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15-5547 running Win 8.1. Every now and then the scroll feature (two fingers vertical swipe to scroll the screen), and the two finger tap for right click, will stop working. When this happens, all the other features on the touchpad seem to work. If I restart the laptop it starts working again. I've tried going into services.msc and setting 'Human Interface Devices" to automatic startup, but it doesn't help. There's something else pretty weird also... When I go into the system tray (lower right), right click the touchpad icon, and select Touchpad Properties, it takes me into the Dell Pointing Devices windows. Inside this window, there is a sliding switch to disable the touchpad. When I disable it, the touchpad still works. Weird. Does anybody have any ideas how I can get this sorted out. I'm also using a wireless USB mouse on the same laptop, not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks.

Answer:Touchpad scroll dies randomly

Hi Jools

Personally I would look to see what touchpad driver version you are using and then either update it with an in-place update, or uninstall (my favourite option, then install new driver) the current driver and then re-install, as it may just be a slight corruption.

Latest driver HERE
Also a thought, when the touchpad stops with the scroll feature, had your laptop been left not used for a period of time, like hibernation?

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

Maybe this is a hardware issue?

Answer:Win XP randomly Dies

You can test the PSU with a multimeter. Do a search on the web and you will find info on how to do this. Also, make sure the memory you put in is good. Download memtest. You'll need to put it on a bootable floppy. Then boot from the floppy and run it. It will run continously. Leave that running overnight. If it is the memory it will tell you. And if it is a problem with Winxp you'll know it because the system won't have locked up. If it does lock up the problem isn't Winxp. But rather a hardware issue.

Question: Y500 randomly dies

Hello, Borught a y500 on amazon a few months ago, its runs great. However, the laptop suddenly just dies randomly, no blue screen, no shut down menu. It just dies, I reboot and check event viewer and its says it crashed(kennel-power). So then I checked for viruses, ran scans for chkdsk, sfc /scannow, and memory diagnostics, everything was fine. It also didn't overheat since the laptop died without gaming at all. The barrtery was plugged in as well I reset windows 8 just to check if its the OS's fault. It just died again today. If it's a hardware issue, what can I do to find out what component of hte computer is wonky? Would the limited warranty help me?

Before i start, I am Running:

WinXP-Pro, Service Pack 3
2.22 GHz Athlon 64 3500+ Processor
2 Gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT Graphics Card

What appears to happen is that once in a blue moon, without any prior warning, the entire computer will lock up solid for about 15 seconds then black screen me and none of my input or output devices will work. That means, Mouse, Keyboard, sound, Monitors, etc. They all die simultaneously. The odd part is, the computer is still working as far as I can tell as the system doesn't even hiccup.

It WAS doing this more than it is now, however it seems to have reduced somewhat. I'm guessing that it has something to do with my power supply as me replacing the 350 watt supply with a 550 watt supply (for a completely different problem) seems to have reduced the occurence of this issue. Instead of happening once or twice a week it now happens once or twice every 2 or 3 weeks. It's still annoying when it happens. Anyone have any clue?

Answer:windows randomly dies

When you boot back into your machine...check the event logs and see whats happening just prior to the failure. If you can, check after a couple of occurrences and see if there are any similarities that might point you in the right direction. Anybody else have an idea?

Hello,
I have a user with a dell latitude d620 laptop. Her external usb mouse stops working every few hours-- apparently when she's doing nothing out of the ordinary, the "installing new hardware" dialog comes up randomly, and when she cancels out of it, the mouse will stop working at a slightly later time. Even the red LED light on the bottom of the mouse goes out.

We've tried different models USB mice, attaching it directly to a USB port on the laptop, via the USB port on the laptop dock, and even with a USB->PS/2 adapter via the dock's PS/2 port.... all with the same results. Every time, when the mouse is working fine, it'll pop up the 'installing new hardware' dialog, and afterwards it just suddenly stops working.

Any ideas? I have no idea what's going on.

She's running windows xp sp3 with symantec endpoint, all the usual office software, really nothing out of the ordinary.
thanks,
Mitch

Hello. I am in need of advice once again. I'm staying at my uncles house who uses Keyon internet service so its like broadband with some sort of dish? Anyways...

The speeds were pretty random and slow. Spikes of 3000 pings and averages of 600. Updated the firmware (7 years old) and average is under a hundred now. However the internet still just completely dies for random amounts of time... 2 seconds to a few minutes. Pings timeout to google or yahoo but not my router.

As far as the setup goes, there is a dish or antennae they have aimed a little dish on the roof towards a few miles away. The "modem" is in a plastic box attached to it. The cable runs into literally the cheapest "splitter adapter" ive ever seen, which wont work if you hook up the modem line into "data out" and the router line into "data in", which confuses me in the first place. Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Anyways, I tried wifi and wired connection. I didn't try to bypass the router completely but I don't think it will make a difference. I decided to get a ladder and look at the "modem" and I was a little shocked to say the least. I opened up the big plastic thing that stores it and it literally is just a piece of like motherboard mounted with one little screw, covered in ladybugs and cobwebs. So I sighed and just left it alone.

So now, average ping is very tolerable. 50-100. Speed is at about 2mbps which is fine. I just don... Read more

I just received my new X1 Carbon yesterday. When I booted it up the first time the computer died after I set up username and password in Windows. Next time the same screen appeared but the username was ofcourse taken already. I logged into windows and the computer died. After 10-20 HDD checks the computer logs into windows and I can install some software (Visual Studio etc), but then it just dies again. Sometimes it can't even login to windows before it dies.  I've tried to format and reinstall windows but it doesn't help, sometimes I can use it for one hour, and sometimes just for 10 seconds.  I can't really say that I can see a pattern in this whether I'm using the AC chord or not.. I've also done a memory check and a harddrive check without any errors. I guess I have to return it and wait for a new one.. really disappointing =(  Any ideas Lenovo?

My computer has been randomly dying when i play graphic intense games. (Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, etc) The monitor says no signal and goes to standby and the sound plays the last sound playing for a few loops. I need to hold down the power button to turn it off. Sometimes after this happens the computer refuses to turn on afterwards, i would have to try a couple of times.

I have tried booting with only 1 of the 2 ram sticks (for both) and came with the same results. If the computer was already able to boot, it will. If it wasn't, it wont. I do not have an extra video card to test, and do not want to buy one until i know it REALLY is the problem.

Any input/ suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've had this laptop over a year now, and just recently I've noticed when I leave it on a while and come back, either the audio of the entire laptop will die, or online videos just won't play. After restarting it goes back to normal until a few hours later when it happens again. I'm not sure what to do here. Can anyone help me out?

Answer:Audio/Video randomly dies?

You are not alone with this problem, since the last windows 8 update there is sound problems with a lot of PCs. You can try this quick solution here :

You just need to enter to the Control Panel -> security and System -> System -> Device Manager

Then look for "sound, video and game controllers" put the cursor over it press right-click and select "scan for hardware changes"

3 secs after that you will have your sound working again, you gonna need to repeat this procedure every time the sound is gone in your PC and till now it always worked to me.

This should solve your problem for now, we need to wait for Microsoft's next windows 8 update, it hopefully will fix the problem in a more permanent way.

Greetings.

Well... I had a Win 7 Ultimate 64bit on this very machine (the one in my preferences) for almost 3 years until the moment when I said to myself: OK, time to refresh. And that only because my port 80 would die sometimes....sometimes thrice an hour for 10-15 min, sometimes twice a day. But it would happen every day. I re-installed with the hope it was just a bad Win installation but it happened again after just an hour in. What I tried? Well, I certainly tried a new router, but it didn't help. I knew it wouldn't since I also run Linux and OS X in home network and none is affected by this. I scanned old and new Win 7 with every possible malware finder, antivirus..etc. Even bought one (I have an "allergy" when it comes to A/Vs and such in general).. I went drastic today, I disconnected all devices (hdds, usbs, dvdroms, pcie) just to prove my point.. left a single 60 GB SSD with brand new win 7 with default drivers .. Took several hours but I still lost port 80 (it seems to be just port 80 since only browsers and windows LIVE are affected on my system)...Skype, FTP, rsync.. they'll all work just fine while nothing else web-wise does.

Help please! Any suggestions will be tested and reported.

Answer:Port 80 dies randomly, everything else works

What do you mean by "port 80 dies"? skype, ftp all works as you say. So not a tcp/ip routing/connection problem.
If you're having problems do:
in command prompt:
ping www.kpn.nl

Works?

Hi!

My internet connection on my Vista machine dies after a few hours. If I restart, the connection will work again, but will die after a few hours again. I've used my computer with several different routers and for example in my friends' home network so I know the problem is in my computer because the internet connection always dies the same way. Usually if I'm listening music from my Spotify, that connection oddly stays on with that, same goes with some java based games like net poker and so on...messenger connection problem diagnostics say that problems are in the ports. Sometimes i've just been too tired to reboot and just kept doing something else with my computer without the internet connection then maybe an hour later the connection comes back to life. This problem is getting kinda old already that it's not funny anymore. Would appreciate if somebody had even a slight suggestion to repair this problem.

I've had  a X41 Tablet for about 2.5 years now.  Just recently in the past month it will randomly die on me, meaning it will lose all power (No shutdown screen, nothing).  If I try to turn it back on, nothing will happen.  If I plug in the AC adapter, still no power.  The only way I can get it to start back up is if I remove the battery, then place it back in forcefully or wiggle the battery around while it is back in the slot.  If it does restart, the battery is still charged like nothing had happened.  So  it isn't the battery losing it's charge.  I even tried putting another battery in from one of the X41 tablets in our office after the computer had died and it wouldn't start.  My thoughts are it has something to with the connection on the board.  Any other thoughts or ways to fix this? Thanks,JohnMessage Edited by cranjx on 06-11-2008 10:34 AM

Not sure if I should post this here or the networking forum but I assume some nice patron will direct me to the correct place if I'm wrong.

For a while now, and for no apparent reason, my internet connection completely dies. But, it's only to my computer. My computer will slow down DRAMATICALLY, stuttering violently as I try to do anything. But if I restart my computer it comes back on as if no problem was ever there.

I am hooked through a router through an ethernet cable and my wife is connected to it wirelessly and she is never affected.

Is this an XP problem, hardware, or maybe even the hardwire ports of my router?

Help! =(

Got my X1 Carbon yesterday. Does have the loose clickpad. Worse issue - it would power down randomly - as in you are typing and suddenly it goes completely dead, as in "lights out" or someone pull the plug type dead. Also does not sleep properly - often when it goes to sleep it dies and you get an improper windows shutdown warning when you restart it. Happens both with AC power and battery power. Was on hold for 1.5 hours trying to reach a sales rep to make an exchange and got disconnected. Tried to do factory restore just to see what will happen but F11 on startup does not work. The notebook looks great but otherwise I can't say I am very happy with my experience.

Hi everyone, I've been having the same problem for months now and have finally decided to try to get some help after attempting multiple fixes. I use both a wired connection and wireless connection on my new laptop depending on where I am in the house (if I'm hooked up to my docking station its wired, otherwise i'll be on the wireless). The wired connection works fine, but the wireless connection will often completely die on me without any apparent cause. I'm pretty sure the problem is with my laptop due to the following reasons:

1) My dad uses the same connection when he works from home, and told me he doesn't have any problems with it.
2) Just for testing services, I tried using a neighbors WiFi connection, and received the same results.

I've tried changing my DNS server between OpenDNS, Google's DNS, etc. and have not had any luck. I made sure my wireless cards weren't sleeping by un-checking 'allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'. I uninstalled Hamachi to make sure it wasn't messing up any of my settings and still had the same problems. I've updated all my drivers and even re-installed them.

Just to describe what exactly happens during these disconnects, any live connections prior to the point where the internet disconnects stay alive (usually, such as Skype calls, AIM connections, certain games, etc.) and will stay open until closed. Web pages behave in a similar fashion, and in fact will ... Read more

I've just bought the components for a new PC, and a friend has built it for me. Everything works fine for hours at a time, I can be playing games, browsing the internet, whatever. Then all of a sudden the PC cuts out, exactly as it would in a power cut, except for an almighty fan noise that kicks in and stays on until I hold the power button down to force the power off. When I say an almighty fan noise, I mean the loudest noise I've ever heard a PC make. I thought it was a hair-dryer turning itself on in the room the first time it happened.

Temperature doesn't seem to be an issue, everything's always around 40 degrees, and before I took it home the guy who built it stress tested it for hours up to 90 degrees without any problem. It has always cut out during web browsing (never whilst gaming) although that's probably just a coincidence.

Any suggestions? I literally have no clue whatsoever, what with being somewhat PC illiterate.

As the title says, my mouse stops working for a couple of seconds and then starts working perfectly again. It mainly happens when I am playing BF3, the game freezes for a second, then I hear the usb-removal sound Windows makes and the game unfreezes but the mouse is dead, then game freezes again for a second and mouse starts working. During the moment mouse is dead all other USB connected things works, only mouse that dies.
It has happened a few times before when im not in any game.

Why is this happening? I have never had any problem with this before.
I have tried putting my mouse a different USB port and it helped for a day or two and then it happened again.

Hi Everyone

In my previous house I would lose connection to the internet about 2-3 times a week. Since moving into my new house it happens more like 5-15 times a day. The internet light on my modem goes out and the broadband light blinks on and off.

95% of the time when I lose the connection it is for less than 2 minutes. But on some occasions it can take a half hour to work again.

Some more info:
- It happens on all 6 computers/devices in my household at the same time. (2 Macs, Win7 PC, iPad, iPod, PS3).
- All devices are connected wirelessly to modem. But, I have also tried Ethernet and still have same problem.
- I have tried 2 modems (including a brand new one that my ISP sent after I complained).
- I have tried using different jack points and cables.
- When the connection fails, I am still able to wirelessly access my modems config page. So wifi connection is not the issue.
- My ISP sent a technician out. He replaced one cable out by the road, but this did not solve the problem.

I have spent a few hours over multiple days on the phone with my ISP. First they said there was no problem with the line. Then they said there is definitively something wrong with the line. Then nothing wrong, then something wrong. Finally after they monitored the line for 3 separate 24 periods, they decided that the problem was solved. And I thought so too... I had good connection for about 36 hours. But then it started failing again, so far today I have lost connection about 10 times... Read more

My computer is being extremely odd right now. Randomly, usually while gaming but at other times also, it will just die. When this happens, it kinda just freezes while repeating the same sound on a loop. It loses all video and sounds like all the insides shut off. When it does this, hitting reset doesn't really work, and usually I cannot turn it off and back on. If I try, I get no beep in POST which indicates to me it would be CPU or MoBo...maybe a power supply?

If I unplug the power from the back for a minute, I can restart it and it will go through POST with the beep and all, and say CPU is unworkable or has been changed, and then play fine for anywhere between 5 minutes to many hours with no problems, then it will happen again.

I cannot tell what wattage my PS is. I built most of this computer about 5 years ago, and have since modded the power supply case, and lost the sticker. The CPU is the original one I got when I built it, the MoBo is 4 years old, and the video card is new.

I have Lenovo T500 Thinkpad for around one year. The laptop started to die randomly without any notification, no blue screen, no shut down, it just dies as if there is no power to the laptop. First I thought it could be a problem with the battery so I replaced my battery with the battery of another Lenovo T500. Even after that the problem persisted. So I removed the battery and just connected the laptop to AC power. The laptop does not die any more and I didnt face any issues. What could cause a problem like this? Whenever I connect the battery, the battery icon on the task bar says its charging and even if I use the battery alone the laptop works fine for sometime until it dies randomly. Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Hi there,

I can't seem to figure this problem out. Every so often (from seconds to a couple minutes) my internet connection will fail, but only for less than a second. Typically no one would even notice this, but it becomes a problem when you use software like Messenger or you play games online. The disconnection is long enough to sign you off.

I've been watching a ping I set to yahoo.com for a good 10 minutes, and sure enough, there are occasional spots where for just 1-3 attemps it will time out, then get replies just fine again.

I use a wired ethernet connection, not wireless. The ethernet port is part of my motherboard, its a fairly modern motherboard, not an old one, and I made sure the driver for it was up to date. Any ideas?

Hello there,
I've been pondering around this problem for quite a while now and I finally decided to inquire the mighty crowds of computer wisdom i.e. you all

I've had this exact same problem in my previous system (with Windows 7 32-bit and quite a bit different internals) but it wasn't nearly as frequent as it is now (with Windows 7 64-bit and brand new CPU/MB/RAM/GPU) - however, this problem never happened on my previous box while it had Windows XP installed for a short while. Namely, the audio in Windows would stop working at random, every app that uses an audio interface would freeze when attempting to access any sink, I can't change the volume or mute anything, and I cannot even reset the Windows Audio service (reset times out) when that happens - the only solution is to reboot after which everything works just fine. The only difference between my old system and this one is that now I rarely get the reset procedure to 'freeze' on 'explorer.exe - Playing log-off sound...' (requiring to force restart to continue the process), but now it more often hangs at 'Shutting down...' screen requiring a physical restart.

My audio stack consists of the integrated sound (disabled, I don't need it, but in my previous setup it was enabled) and two USB-based sound sinks, namely Logitech Z Cin?ma speakers (Default Device) and Logitech G930 headset (Default Communications Device). Both are connected directly to the motherboard USB ports so it's not a problem with wonky USB hubs.

Hiyya inco and welcome for starters I am definitely no expert mate I run a straight forward Asus Xonar DG card (the Xonar supports 7:1 systems) with my Ivy B with a Logitec Z 506 speaker set up and I have no probs at all, and it is a fairly cheap card at that.
Now I don't know what your audio set up is and it sounds like Ben Hur to me but just as a suggestion why not try a different brand card? I just really like the Asus control module that comes with mine and Asus do a really nice range of sound cards.

I am just getting a gut feeling the Logitec card is not the full dollar.

I have one laptop with Windows XP on it. The problem is that keyboard and mousepad both all together die randomly but usb mouse still works. This error occurs randomly. Not everytime i use the computer.

Anyone got the same problems?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Keyboard / mousepad on laptop dies randomly

well based on the info provided my first guess would be that the keyboard is shot.... or ... if its a toshiba TE 2000 it might be the connector that the the keyboard ribbon connects to might be loose and need resoldering...but that would be the only 2 i can think of right at the moment... let us know how you fix it so it can possibly be of help to others

it seems to happen most often when playing video or playing facebook games of any type. there is no warning the computer is just OFF. it has done this in safe mode as well and i wasn't even watching video or playing any games then. the only time it has done this before it was over heated. now sometimes it is hot and others it is not so it really seems random. no viruses, no malware, regular maintenance is kept up. if i can find a solution other than formatting the machine that would be great, or at least knowing if formatting would do me any good at all. i have downloaded hijack this and the TSGInfo follows:

Hello, I've been having this problem for a little while now, and I figured this would be the right section to post it in (if not, please feel free to move it). This is the problem I've been having. While playing a 3D game, after a short while, one of 3 things will happen :1. The screen goes completely black and I'm left with no choice but to restart my computer.2. Similar to number one, except now the screen has random blocks of crazy colors all over, and I'm still left with no choice but to restart.3. The computer saves me the trouble of having to hit the power button, and just goes ahead and instantly restarts itself (screen goes black for a sec, and then I'm on the start up screen). And one more problem that I've chosen to separate from those 3; sometimes my computer just completely freezes and I need to restart. This happens seemingly randomly, at any time.I suspect this has something to do with a new video card I installed recently. I've had those 3 problems a bit before, but they are occurring much more frequently with the new card, and the random freezing thing is something new. So perhaps I installed it incorrectly, or its in some way not compatible with my system? I don't know, thats why I come here to ask you guys, any ideas whats going on?Video Card : Nvidia GeForce FX 5200**Might be worth noting that I did not purchase this hardware, it was given to me by a friend, therefor I have no documentation or disc with it**Misc System... I got this laptop 2 months ago and it worked just fine but lately it's been dying randomly (the battery was at 98%) for absolutely no reason, no prompts all i can hear is a sound coming from the hard disk just as if the laptop was force shut down by holding the power button key. The laptop temperatures weren't high at the time (mostly all components @ 45°C). I use this laptop for college and it's been REALLY unreliable & I can't return it at this time since I'm at a dorm and i don't think it would even get a RMA since it happens randomly (you can't expect it at all - i only had word and microsoft edge opened and poof it's dead) - also i can always start it again instantly but SOMETIMES it dies again in the booting process. Any help on what i should do?

Yet another problem with my peice of crap i call the "computer".

I got a new monitor at xmas, hoping to solve the problems i was haveing with my old one too no avail however.

Sometimes when im playing games etc it just looses the signal from the computer. Im using a 9800 pro 128MB graphics card, and cant understand why this is happening. The computer is still running fine though. It just wont display anything. Why could this be? I only got the card 3 months ago, it shoudlnt be doing this. It also at random intervals decides to artifact and under both circumstances i have to switch off for a while and wait before it will work again.

Things ive checked.

The card i sseated properly.
uninstalled it and reinstalled it
using latest drivers.
Using Direct X 9c
On board VGA automatically disables when AGP card is plugged in.
when uninstalled it seems to run fine from the motherboard connection (Hence im thinking dodgy card)
The car dis connected to the power supply as is nescessary.

Im totally stumped here. I can live with the situation but its not ideal, especially whe im playing gamesa and it just dies on me. Its as though the card is stopping sending the signal to my monitor.

Could this be a dodgy card? If so who do i contact about it? The place i bought the card from, or the manufacturer??

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I have had my 3000 N100 Thinkpad for around 2 years now and after a year and a half I realised the Battery was no longer charging, soon after this happened my Laptop would just die randomly, when I say die I mean there is no shutdown screen  it is as iff all power to the p.c. suddenly stopped. At first I though it must be a Virus but after numerous scans and re-installing Windows the problem re-occured, Today I opened the P.C. and checked the fan as I thought maybe it was over heating and eventually giving in, I was relieved to see a load of dust and used the vacumn to clear the fan.I thought that would fix the problem but now if anything it seems worse, I know the battery is dead as the charge level is 0 and the battery indicator on the front of the laptop flashes 5 times organge before disappears completely...In a Final attempt I have disconnected the battery completely and am now running it only on the power adapter, I don't know if this will work but I need to do something...What could cause a problem like this, all of my settings are correct my power settings are set to always on with no hibernation.Any help will be wonderful. Thanks

Maybe the battery just went bad. The only way I can think of to test it would be to try the battery in another Lenovo 3000 or to try a new battery in your Lenovo 3000.

I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks, and have Windows 10.  A couple of days or so ago, I unplugged it and took it into another room to use.  It was on battery at least 6 hours with no problems.  It's been plugged in since then. I just looked at the battery meter and it shows only 35% power remaining.  Why is it not fully recharged by now?

the last two days my machine has suffered a crash with similar symptoms. First, the display goes blank. I can see some disk activity. This continues for maybe 20-30 seconds and then the machine shuts down. Yesterday, I had to restart the machine twice b/c the first attempt also resulted in a shutdown during the boot process.I thought that perhaps it was an overheating issue, but I'm not convinced of that as today there was nothing obstructing the exhaust vents (though they were a bit dusty).I'm runing windows 7 pro, 64 bit. Have an NVidia card, but I don't know about the details. Where would I find them? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Thinkpad W510 Display randomly dies and then machine shuts down

If it is a W510, graphics are probably 1GB NVIDIA® Quadro® FX880M.  It is hard to diagnose from a thousand miles away, but my first guess is overheating. I suggest installing TPFancontrol (free) and monitor temperatures.

Hi,

I bought my T420 around august 2011 and just after a year of light use (I use my wireless mouse most of time) the touchpad started peeling in the middle and its getting worse til now its so ugly to look at.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem? I'm already out of warranty so replacing it is out of question.
Is it safe to use something to completely remove this bumpy surface? i tried use my finger nails but it dont seem to come off that easily at all.

Just FYI the white stuff is NOT stains its plastic film on top of the bumpy surface peeling off!

Hiya all, I am new to this forum, so please be kind!  I have a brand new T420 issued by my company. I am liking all of it's features as I get to know it.One issue I have got is that as I am typing, I touch the Touchpad often and hence the words get typed at different points! A simple baffling question - how do I disable my touchpad. If I hit Fn + F8, I only have the following options: Buttons, Pointers, Pointer Options, Wheel & Hardware in the 5 tabs. I am unable to diable the touchpad from any of the options.  I went to Control Panel and used the Mouse option, it gives me exactly the same screen as Fn+F8. So no use again Kindly please help.... thanks,

you did not install the ultranav driver to get the Ultranav pop up window that allows you to switch between trackpoint and trackpad.

On occasion, for no apparent reason, my screen will rotate to any orientation. I have to put it into, and out of, sleep mode in order to get the orientation back to where needed. Also, on occasion, for no apparent reason, I lose the ability to use my touchpad and keyboard, and need to use the touchscreen in order to do anything. I also need to put it into, and out of, sleep mode in order to regain use of the touchpad and keyboard.  I've updated all software and drivers out of frustration, but nothing has helped. Help!!

I just bought a refurbished ThinkPad T420. A friend of mine said it had a good spec so I was looking forward to having a play around. Right from the minute I switched it on there was a problem. The touchpad and mouse are not working. The only way to use the mouse is via the track point (is that the right term?) and I hate it! It's way too fiddly. So I tried fn and F8... it doesn't work. I've tried rebooting and enabling the touchpad in the BIOS it doesn't work. I've deleted drivers. Still nothing. I've installed new drivers. Many tutorials say you can fix it using device manager, mouse etc. But the tab the recommend you choose is not there. I installed new drivers from synaptics and it says there is no synsptics device found. I am honestly going insane! Something that should be so simple and it's so awkward! Forgive me because I'm half asleep but I should mention when I first tried to fix it the tab in mouse properties that everyone says I should use (ultra something) well it was there. But when I tried to click any of the options on that tab I was kicked out and got an error messsge. Now that tab no longer appears. It's running on windows 10. I'm ready for launching it out the window. Help!

Answer:ThinkPad T420 touchpad issue

Congrats on your T420. They are nice machines. I'm sorry to hear about your issue. Hopefully, a few little things will solve it.

Make sure it is enabled in BIOS.
Make sure all drivers are updated from both Windows Update & Lenovo System Update. (reboot as necessary)
Confirm that Device Manager does not have any devices marked as not working correctly.
Go Mouse Settings
Click "Additional mouse options"
Make sure "Enable TouchPad" is clicked (mine is grayed out because I have it turned off in my BIOS)

Let me know if you have any issues. I suggest connecting an external USB mouse, if you have one, to the computer to decrease your aggravation level while you work on the issue. If none of that works, I would contact the people that you purchased the refurbished ThankPad through. The TouchPad part may not be functioning.

Hi,   I am replacing the clickers on my T420. I've gotten the palmrest off and now I would like to "unplug" the current clicker from the circuit board and plug in a new one.  I'm a complete technical lay person, so I'm not familir how I dismantle this without breaking it.  Can somebody describe or point a video for me?  I can seem to find lots of video on how to take off the palmrest but doesn't show actually taking off the clickers or touchpad.   I've attached a photo of the "plug" I am describing..  I'm sure this is a standard connection, I'm just not a pro.

Hi: The cable connects to a flat connector with a plastic hold-down bracket. You need to flip up the darker piece that holds the cable in place with your fingernail or a small flat screwdriver. Be careful. Unfortunately, it is much easier to do the 2nd time you try. The cable pulls out. The new one needs to slide in and the clamp needs to come down,

I bought new pc parts this week and also bought Windows 10 Home while I was at it, due to W7 not accepting USB 3.0. But shortly after, I started having bad audio problems when using my headset, which is connected to my motherboard's rear 3.5mm output.

The symptoms consist of:
- The audio cutting out suddenly after just a few minutes of usage, e.g. 30 seconds of youtube, combined with the microphone not picking up any audio.

- Sound panel not responding occassionally or becoming sluggish. Can pop up later when clicking on things like browser tabs.

- High Definition Audio Device disappearing from choosable outputs in the notification area.

- Realtek High Definition Device disappearing from the Device Manager.

- Random pop-ups saying that I've either unplugged an audio device or I've plugged in an audio device multiple times in a row.

- Sound panel showing activity from both random thing I'm playing, and the Test Sound button, but no sound actually playing in the headset.

- Usually the sound cuts out with a small crackle, but other times it's completely silent when it happens. When loading the desktop I can hear some crackling too.

- ARK: Survival Evolved crashing, giving me a memory write error, followed by a notification of a decive being plugged in instantly after.

I've tried:
- Installing the latest drivers through windows update, realtek's latest drivers, motherboard's latest drivers and various .cab updates being rejected because the drivers "are up to date&... Read more

Hi guys, hope you can assist me with this. I have a really strange behavour, I must say... I received a T410 and worked two days on it. From one office I moved to another location and worked for some hours. After lunch I started the machine again, but neither touchpad nor keyboard is working. If I connect a pointer via USB on the machine the pointer is working, keyboard unfortunately not. Ok. Admins installed it new. I worked one day, next morning same issue. Well, back to admins, reinstallation completed. Again for two days I could work without any problem. So as it happened the third time admins decided to provide me a new hardware: I received a T420. I have been working with this one week without any error. During christmas I took the notebook home. I had been working with it for one hour. I used a USB-to-bluetooth wireless pointer. No problems so far.I got back in the office this morning an guess what?!?!?! Same problem as for the T410: Windows is starting up but touchpad and kayboard is not working at all! What did I? In my opinion nothing special:1) Started up machine2) Added pointer3) Connected via WLAN to network at home (settings for Home-Network applying)4) Packed the notebook into my suitcase and took the flight.5) Back at the office connected via LAN to network, connected via VGA to monitor, added usb-keyboard, added pointer. What can this be? I mean I'm able to destroy to different machines! Only common is Windows 7 and T4xx series..... Read more

Yeah! Found ound myself!  The issue is that I changed the setting from my mouse in the control panel. I received a message asking me about deinstalling the driver for the touchpad. I clicked on "Yes" and after restard it is blocked. A buddy had the same issue as he changed the setting to switch of touchpad. I reinstalled the driver, now I do not get the message any more and I can change my settings. After reboot still working.

Hey everyone I purchased a T420 a few months back and two times (just before cleaning the screen with a dry fiber cloth) I've noticed what looks marks made by the keyboard (vertical lines, spaced approximately as the keys) and what looks like marks made by the touchpad (small dots, the touchpad is dotted) on the screen. The marks disappear when cleaning the screen with the fiber cloth which is good so far, but I fear it is the dreaded phenomenon of the keyboard scratching into the screen because the screen touches the keys when the lid is closed. Back in the days and with cheap laptops you see permanent damage to the screen from this. Have any of you guys experienced this with your T410, T420 ect? Should I place a fiber cloth between the keyboard and screen when I close the laptop? It seems silly that Lenovo got this one thing wrong with this laptop.. As soon as I see the marks again I will make sure to photograph them and show the pictues here. Best regardsWuhtzu

Answer:T420 - Keyboard and touchpad leaves marks on screen?

I have not had any such issues with my T420 (or T400). I would think if it is leaving marks on the screen that there is an issue with the way the machine was put together.

My T420 will turn on mute at random times.  Usually this happens when it a) powers on from the off state, b) wakes from sleep, c) wakes from hibernate, d) connects to bluetooth. I can always get the audio back by pressing the mute button to turn off the light (and turn on the audio), but I wonder why the computer thinks I want it to mute.

Finally I found a solution that fixed it by going to the mouse and trackpad settings in windows 10 and there changing the delay setting for the trackpad to respond - once I had changed that setting everything (trackpad buttons and trackpad) worked again.

To find the same, please follow the steps as given below:
In search bar type device manager > under device manager find for an option mice and other pointing devices > click on mice and other pointing devices you will get a drop down option with UltraNav/synaptic driver > right click on the one which drivers you have UltraNav/synaptic > once you right click you will see an option called uninstall and click on the uninstall and please find the link given below and reinstall the driver.

So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad. For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).  I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly. After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything. I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine). Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.  I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem? The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you) Thanks a bunch,Amanda

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

Go into the BIOS (press F1 during the initial bootup) menu then go into CONFIG -> Keyboard/Mouse -> Disable both the TrackPoint and Touch Pad -> press F10 to save and exit.

Hi guys, I am trying to maintain my doughter's school aptop but encountered something exceding my limited expertise. Since about 10 days the touchpad, buttons and the red thingie stopped working. I have read all the forum issues, uninstalled the drivers and re-installed new ones (first through the lenovo sulotion centre, then the synaptics generic version). About 6 times now. That didn't work. It says "component not present, not working correctly or divers not fully installed, error 24" (translation from Dutch, probably used some incorrect terms).Running windows 10 on this t420. All worked fine untill this happened. I saw that some new mouse drivers have been installed around the day of malfunction but can't find how or where to remove those (still getting used to this windows 10).Any suggestions?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So far, there's just 2 of us with trackpoint / touchpad problems as a result of installing Windows 10.  My post:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420-Win-10-Pro-Ultra-Nav-19-00-12-61-Tr... I've combed through this forum and have no one else reporting these same issues; most are reporting that left and right click buttons are working, but the middle button did not work.  In my case, it was the opposite; the middle button scrolled (albeit very choppy), and the left / right buttons were dead.for my Trackpoint.  It's not a hardware issue, as all buttons function as normal in Win 7, but upon installation of Win 10, the buttons do not work.  I went so far as to do a clean install of Win 10 to ensure there were no conflicts between Win 10 and any leftover Win 7 system files, only to end up with the same old left and right button problems. So until the Ultra Nav drivers to enable full functionality of trackpoint / touchpad device, the only solution is to use a physical mouse or revert back to your prior operating system.

This question has been asked by countless people, and the Internet is filled with a wild array of answers.

If you bought an HP system many years ago, and it came with Windows XP, and you have the re-installation disc, if your system dies or needs to be recommissioned because it's unreliable, can't you use the re-installation disc to install the OS onto the new system? I've heard some limitations are involved but I don't know fact from fiction on these:

1. You can reinstall only IF you upgrade the system with the same motherboard because the key for the install is tied to the serial number of the motherboard.

2. You can reinstall only if you move the hard drive of the old system to the new one (which for me would be impossible because the old drive is IDE and the new one is SATA).

3. You can reinstall only if the new computer is a model from the same vendor (e.g., if you have the reinstall disc for a Dell computer it will only work in another Dell computer).

4. If you call MS customer support and explain that your system's motherboard has died they will "reactivate" the license for you on the new system.

5. You can't do it in any scenario because your EULA will state that you agreed to install the OS on the one computer and agreed it would not be used on another system.

Anybody have any definitive answers on this issue?

Answer:T or F: Your OEM license for Windows XP dies when your system dies.

True...simple answer to your topic title.

Hello,

I have a very annoying problem:
My touch pad is deactivating and activating itself all the time. As if i would constantly press fn+f9 (several times in a row). I had this problem before but it just stopped. It seems the problem occurs more often when using the keyboard.
And the small on/off-Button doesn't seem to work.
I cleaned the keyboard and removed the F9-button in case but the only result was that I can't put it back as it won't stay in position...

please help me. I can barely use the keyboard as I am constantly interrupted by the touch pad on/off-message.

cheers,
kashel

Alright I solved the issue. There is a function key utility downloadable in the drivers section of toshiba.com.

There as a thread on this but I'm posting a new on because that one is marked as solved, but it is not solved, the solution accepted there is a non-solution as far as I'm concerned (uninstall Ultranav and install software from Synaptics). The issue is, with touchpad enabled, and tapping disabled, at random intervals, it reenables itself. This is extremely annoying, especially as the tapping is so very sensitive and has no sensitivity adjustment, so one suddenly finds oneself accidentally performing actions as unintended click events happen. It is extremely random. Sometime months will pass without it reenabling itself. Other times it starts happening every day or so, and then will revert to behaving itself for another couple months. Docking and undocking seem to make it worse. Sometimes it seems it happens on unsleeping, but not always.  I have a T61, running Windows XP SP3. This problem has happened for me as long as I've had this laptop, over a year, and across a number of UltraNav updates (as other system updates...I generally keep major components updated like BIOS, Powermanager, and Ultranav). PLEASE fix this, it's driving me nuts! Thanks, Eric

Answer:Touchpad tapping renables itself randomly

Similar problem - R61 on XP/SP3, Touchpad reactivates itself after "standby" and has now started to reactivate itself randomly.   Really really irritating.  I never use the Touchpad but there is no way to totally disable it.

I have a new G50-80 that has a strange touchpad issue. Randomy the touchpad will respond sluggishly or not at all. At other times using the touchpad will cause web pages and the like to resize, as if I was using two fingers. The tray icon also shows two or more pressure indicators when the touchpad is playing up. What is the best course of action? I have already tried updating the touchpad drivers with no success.

Answer:New G50-80 touchpad randomly not functioning correctly

The touchpad stops working randomly when the computer is woken back from sleep and it has to be rebooted to get it going agin. An externally connected mouse will work fine during that time. Is this due to a possibly faulty touchpad??

Answer:The touchpad on my V3-331 stops working randomly.

Hi Jithin1,

It is possible to be a defective touchpad. I would suggestion a few things you can try on your own before looking into service options.

Update or reinstall touchpad drivers
Refresh the PC to see if that takes care of any issues.
Reload the PC entirely if possible

If you continue having issues, contact your local Acer support team so that they can help setup services to take care of the touchpad issues you're having.

Hey guys.

I have never had this problem before so I don't know what to do.

While on my laptop my touchpad will randomly stop moving. I can still zoom in and out by pinching, I can right click and left click, but I cannot move the pointer . As soon as I plug in my mouse, the touchpad works again. I can unplug the mouse and it will still work for a few minutes then the problem will happen again.

I'm running windows 7 64bit,

I also have not installed anything recently.

Answer:Touchpad randomly stops working.

See if reinstalling the touchpad driver from the laptop's manufacturer's website helps.

Sometimes both work, sometimes only my keyboard works, and then sometimes only my keyboard will work amd than eventually it will shut down too.I just want to know what could be causing this and if I can fix it on my own. Hi, On my Travelmate B115 (that I've barely used at all), the touchpad randomly stops working. If I deactivate it and activate it (Fn+F7 twice) it starts working again, but I have to do that once every two minutes, and it's really annoying. Sometimes it also is very slow or imprecise in its movements, and it seems sometimes that it clicks without my wanting it to (it could be that I'm grazing the pad without noticing sometimes, but I'm really writing "in the air" with only my fingers touching the computer's keys now to avoid it, and it still happens).I am extremely frustrated since this laptop is brand new. The mouse cursor is either restricted to just moving vertically up and down or it randomly moves itself all over the place. NOT a virus or malware causing it, I've checked it thoroughly. Is it fixable or do I have to get another complete palm rest and touch pad part? Which of course would be used and possibly have the same failure. Just got done putting it back together from taking the keyboard and display off to tighten all the hinge screws. The right hinge inside the lid was just about to come loose completely. Now it's nearly tight as new. While I had it apart I disconnected and reconnected the touch pad cable, hoping it might just be a bad connection there. No change.

I bought a brand new laptop from Dell.  The touchpad kept crashing (it won't respond to taps and sometimes stops scrolling, but the right and left click continue to work).  After several months of calling tech support, having the laptop serviced remotely, and sending it in twice for repairs, all without success, Dell sent me a new computer.  After only four days, the same thing is now happening with the new one.  Now Dell says that means the problem is on my end.
I haven't downloaded any new programs, everything is up-to-date, and when I check the touchpad settings, it shows everything as being enabled.  The touchpad stops working randomly, on different websites and in different programs.  I never had this problem on any previous Dell laptops.  I can't think what I might be doing to cause this issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone experienced this? In UltraNav the reverse scrolling isn't checked but sometiems it just starts scrolling reverse (i.e. cycle fingers up to scroll down and vice versa). The only way I can fix it is to actually go and enable reverse scrolling, and then disable reverse scrolling. I did have to remove the keyboard when I was adding RAM, but pretty sure the touchpad is separate from the keyboard. I do have the latest drivers.

Well, probably not at random, because there has to be a reason.
Lenovo S510p Touch, Windows 8.1, Synaptics TouchPad V7.5, Driver version 16.6.6.3 dated May 17, 2013. Microsoft Office 10 and no oddball software installed.
I changed the touchpad settings to ENABLE vertical scrolling and DISABLE the edge swipes function that causes the hideous Windows popups if you swipe from the left edge. Made the settings as shown in image at the bottom.
The problem is the settings revert to the defaults after a time. It's a pain to reset things several times a day. Can't find anything on the Lenovo site specific to this. Looked at the Synaptics site and they say there's probably another device driver that causes the reset. I tried disabling the touchscreen, but no help there. Too inexperienced (i.e.dumb) to know what else to try.
Ideas? Thanks!

Ever since I've upgraded my dad's laptop to Windows 10, the keyboard and touchpad stop working randomly, and would work only after I restart the computer. (logging off, switch user, standby mode doesn't resolve it.)
There is no pattern to it. Sometimes it would be ok for a few days, sometimes it would happen again after a few hours. I mostly do internet browsing on the laptop.

When the problem occurred:
- The keyboard AND the touchpad would both stop working at the same time.
- USB mouse still works. (I do not have an external keyboard to test)
- The lights on the keys themselves (eg caps lock, wifi) would still remain on if they're activated but cannot be toggled on/off as usual.
- The device manager still showed no problems with the mouse or keyboard.

Things I've tried:
- sfc /scannow
- disabled sticky keys
- used the generic drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- reinstalled the drivers for keyboard and touchpad
- updated to the latest synaptics driver
- made a new synaptics trackpad profile
- disabled touchpad when using the USB mouse

Laptop stats:
HP Pavillion dm1-4002AU
Windows 10 Home 64bit (upgraded from Win7 and then reset to a fresh state)
AMD Radeon HD 6230 Graphics
6GB RAM
Synaptics Driver Version: 19.0.12.95 06Jul15
Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
Lenovo ThinkPad PS/2 keyboard

This is very exasperating. I would appreciate some help in stopping this problem permanently, thanks.

This has happened a lot since my upgrade to Windows 10, and it's really starting to get on my nerves. Seemingly randomly, my keyboard will stop responding to what I type, and my touchpad completely stops as well (no, I did not accidentally click to disable it). These problems will never resolve themselves on their own, but as soon as I reset the computer everything works again - to me, that sounded like a driver crash, but nope! I checked the driver menu and it told me everything was running just fine. What's even more strange is that I have the backlight keyboard enabled so that when I type, it lights up. And strangely, the keys still light up when I press them, so I know it's registering my typing SOME how.

You would also think that this would be a software problem since it fixes immediately upon reset, but I've noticed that this issue seems to crop up a lot right after I have moved my computer... I'm lost and I've scoured the internet for clues, but no one else seems to have this problem. Please help!

In order to possibly do testing on what is causing this (via suggestions hopefully, I've tried everything I can think of) I am purposely not resetting my computer (thankfully this is a touch screen, but this on-screen keyboard typing is obnoxious). Currently, both keyboard and touchpad don't work, but a usb mouse I use does (the computer is also set so that using the usb mouse does not disable the touchpad).

I have multiple Thinkpad T510's...  Using the latest UltraNav driver (15.0.24.0) Under Windows 7 Enterprise x64...  For some reason, the Touchpad will intermittantly become unresponsive...  After 6-10 seconds, the touchpad will begin responding again...  When the touchpad is unresponsive, no functions appear to work (cursor movement, tapping, scrolling, multi finger gestures, etc)...  During the period where the touchpad is unresponsive, the touchpoint or an external mouse move the mouse pointer without issue, and all the touchpad & touchpoint buttons respond normally...  so I know it's not Windows holding back the mouse cursor...I've personally seen the issue in multiple T510's... Has anyone else experienced this with the T410 or T510?  Is there something quirky in the driver?  Anyone know of a solution to keep the touchpad responsive?  (Overall it doesn't sound like a bad problem, but really it's very irritating to have the mouse cursor or scrolling functions, etc randomly stop for 10 seconds when you're working along....)

Sometimes when I start up my computer, more often than not, when it brings me to my logon screen, I can't use the touchpad or the keyboard at all.  I have to physically touch the screen to let me put my pin in.  Still, neither work, so I end up shutting down and restarting, sometimes more than once, before the touchpad and keyboard start to work again.  I've had this problem for a couple of years now, have been in touch with support, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled my keyboard.  My warranty just expired of course.  I'm ready to throw this computer out of a window.

Minor issue - but annoying....I like to use the touchpad to move the mouse, but I don't like the 'tap to click' feature, so I uncheck the 'enable tapping' option in the UltraNav mouse driver. Life is good. Then ... every few days ... after I wake my computer (I am lucky and don't need to reboot often .... I usually put the computer to sleep when moving the computer)....  I find the the touchpad is acting as a 'mouse click' and when I go into Mouse control panel, I see that 'enable tapping' has a check mark ("tick" in English-English). I then uncheck this box, and everything works fine for a few days.I haven't been able to identify any specific action that causes this ... and the timing can be every couple of days ... then once every 2-3 weeks.Any ideas?

Answer:Touchpad 'enable tapping' randomly gets turned on

I have a w500 and experience a similar issue. I set the Ultranav to Tracpoint only and in a day or two both tracpoint and touchpad are active. My conclusion is it's an Ultranav driver issue. I may roll back the driver and see if it fixes things.

Currently, both keyboard and touchpad don't work, but a usb mouse I use does (the computer is also set so that using the usb mouse does not disable the touchpad).

Answer:Keyboard/touchpad stop working randomly

Hi I had that same trouble when on windows 8.1
Found out my BIOS was out of date
When upgraded to 10 my manufacturer updated the BIOS
Which in turn updated the latest drivers
Also have you run SFC /Scannow

I want to set the middle click button above my touchpad to be middle click (and not scroll). I do this in the control panel  Hit Apply and OK, but after some time (a restart or two) it reverts back to scroll... This is extremely frustrating.  Brand new computer, new drivers.  Please help. Thank you.

Hello Lenovo Community, A few weeks ago, my touchpad on my e430 began left-clicking and right-clicking randomly. That is, it will click rapidly and repeatedly on whatever my cursor is hovering over, even if my fingers are not anywhere near the laptop. This is a huge nuisance, as it's rendered the laptop almost inoperable thanks to this clicking causing windows to open and close, internet ads to be clicked on, and the right click options bar popping up several times a second. In addition, I've noticed that my keyboard has begun to malfunction as well, seemingly in tandem with the touchpad problem. Specifically, many keys don't work--or work only part of the time.  I've ran malware scans and virus scans and found nothing. I wonder if it might be related to moisture in the keyboard/touchpad area (the laptop became slightly wet due to a brief rain shower shortly before this problem began), but I am not sure. Can anyone provide insight on this problem and how I might fix it? I would greatly appreciate it. - LS

Answer:E430: Touchpad Clicking Randomly and Keyboard Malfunctioning

Hey Lenovo guys: please respond ro this question. It's a serious issue, and we need help. I replaced the HD with an SSD, tried a new memory card, and tried to adjust the settings on the trackpad. For some reason, I try to disable tapping and it keeps resetting the setting on its own. I think it might be a Lenovo software issue. Please advise.

I have updated the driver for my touchpad, but it still randomly stops recognizing any touch gestures or button clicks. If I restart the computer the touchpad will function normally again. Occasionally I can get it to start working again by pulling up task manager and then closing it. Any suggestions on what else I can try?

In this case, you are advised to perform clean boot and check if there is any software conflict. To know how to do this, the following link can be helpful:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135 If the issue persists even after performing clean boot, then you are advised to take the computer to nearest Acer service center to check if there is any hardware issue. To do this, the following link can be helpful:http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/service-contact Hope this will help you.

Just purchased the Inspiron 15 7569, which seems to be having serous problems with the touchpad freezing sporadically.
Freezing in this context means no click feedback, can move pointer, no ability to click on anything and sometimes stuck in click and hold/select mode.
The only solution at this point was to disable the HID driver and turn off double tap/drag.
Looking at the drivers installed and available for this touchpad (ACPI\SYN0609),  It seems to have only Microsoft default drivers enabled and there is no available driver from Dell under this model.
Is there an alternate driver I can use? and/or will Dell be publishing specific touchpad drivers for this device.

I could really use some help with this. I've searched all over the net and there isn't a real solution to this. Most threads are closed or never answered. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 and everything works fine but when doing things fast or under high cpu load my trackpad locks up for a second and if I try to keep using it it will trail slowly until I stop for a second then go and it works again. Something is temporarily locking it up and it can be very annoying during some things.

It is a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad. Using "device driver update" produced no new hardware that matched better than what I have currently. The funny thing I noticed is the device drivers for my model on Dell doesn't match what I have..

None of those 3 under Keyboard/Mouse match what I have. Or do they? I matched the synaptic version and it didn't match anything there. Here is a list of my shipped system specs:

Answer:Vostro 1510 Touchpad/Trackpad Freezes Randomly

Ran the Dell diagnostics and using the symptom tree I ran the 2 tests that fit this issue (I guess it's a real common problem for it to be standard in the system tree) and it didn't detect any errors/issues. All passed. By the way, to clarify what I meant by High CPU Load I was speaking of the cylinder light on the keyboard dash. I think that's actually for the HDD not CPU. So again it seems to happen when the hdd is already under load.

I have put the option of "Do Nothing" on when lid is closed however, I found out that the laptop will just randomly open files/programs/apps whenever I fully close the lid. I double checked and there is no virus/malware on my system, I've updated everything I can think of, and it only happens whenever I fully close the lid.

I tested it by hooking my IdeaPad Y410p to my TV and I closed the lid and watched the touchpad go crazy on my TV's screen. It only happens if I fully close the laptop lid, but if I leave it open a crack it seems to be okay. There seems to be some sort of interference whenever the lid is too close to the touchpad.

It's very annoying and I've resorted to manually shutting off the touchpad before I fully close the lid or I've just manually shut the screen off on my laptop manually.

It's a shame that Lenovo has neglected this issue and I'm very upset since I found this problem out after the return period and I don't want to go through the hassle of getting it fixed.

If anybody finds a fix to this problem please let me know. I've also tried to find a way to automatically turn off the touchpad whenever I close the lid, but everything I've tried so far didn't seem to work.
Any help or other suggestions is welcome!

Thanks in advance

Answer:Y410P touchpad move/click randomly when lid closed

I had exactly the same problem with my Y510P. I changed the 'PalmTracking' setting to 'Maximum' and lowered the Sensitivity a bit. You can change it a bit if you like. When you close the lid and you look at the touchpad pictogram in the taskbar, you can see if it 'detects' movement when the lid is closed. So find your own 'optimal' setting   Hope this helps

I just got my ThinkPad today so I'm pretty pissed off about this. Whenever I try and use the touchpad the cursor will randomly, every now and again, start jumping across and around the page, making it impossible to work with. It will also trigger random gestures, minimizing everything randomly too. I am seriously pissed off, this is ridiculous from Lenovo on a new and recent model. What can I do about this? I don't want to have to send it back a day after getting it.

Answer:E420s touchpad randomly moving cursor (even when not typing)

Okay I managed to fix the problem by installing the Synaptic driver. I have a little annoying problem now that if I hold my thumb on the click while moving the cursor, it is a little more laggy and stuttery than if I just do it without my hand on it.

Don't know if anyone can help me out but i recently bought a P50-A laptop and i am having issues with the touch-pad.

Basically what is happening is that every now and then my touch-pad randomly locks itself and then wont allow me to unlock and will unlock once I have reset the laptop.

I have checked the drivers and everything appears to be working fine and there appears to be no hardware conflicts.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Hi

Have you noticed this behaviour from the first day? Can you enable/disable (lock/unlock) touchpad using F5 (FN+F5)?

Windows 10 Start Menu opens randomly But I'm Not Using Touch Pad.While reading information on internet or playing a game app or whatever, the Start menu will open. The mouse icon is usually over on the left side of screen (far away from Start Icon) and my hands are not touching keyboard. The notebook is only about 1 1/2 months old. It's been doing this since new. How do I shut down this "feature" down?
