T400s with Gobi 5600 multimode broadband mini card & GPS

Question: T400s with Gobi 5600 multimode broadband mini card & GPS

dell sells a gobi card, http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Wireless_WiFi/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&s... , that would physically fit in the T400s. Lenovo has qualcomm drivers . Anyone have an opinion whether this card would work in the t400s? My concern is that it might be "locked" so as to only work wth specific Dell models. The card provides compatability with multiple carriers such as verizon, AT&T, and others rather than just one carrier. Also could be used with GPS. I cannot find a version of this card specifically designed for the T400s. * Note for Lenovo - this would be a sought after option to avail your customers of.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T400s with Gobi 5600 multimode broadband mini card & GPS

The T400s Hardware Maintenance Manual specifies an FRU 42T0961 Qualcomm UNDP1 WWAN card, which is a Gobi card. Looks like IBM parts are selling it. That would be all you would need for a WWAN Upgradeable ThinkPad (orange and blue antenna cables already installed - see the HMM). A non-Lenovo card like the one you mention would most likely give an 1802 BIOS error "Unauthorized network card". I have no idea if that card is SIM-locked - maybe someone reading this does?

Hello there,I recently purchased a Lenovo w510 without a integrated broadband modem. (Gobi 2000 - Mini PCI express card)I notice that the slot for a simcard is present in the laptop, and am now wondering what it would take for me to install this product myself. Has anyone had any experience/success with this? The product description is here: http://www.qualcomm.com/common/documents/analyst/Gobi_2000_ProductSheet.pdf So it's a Mini PCI express that we're dealing with. The basic installation method is here: http://pc-level.com/2009/02/installing-wireless-card-on-laptop/ (also I've just noticed that the procedure is well documented in the user manual): //start menu/help and support/lenovo access help/replacing devices But I'm wondering if anyone else has made this upgrade post-sale and had success/challenges. Thanks, SBK

Answer:Installing a GOBI 2000 (post-sale upgrade) - Mini PCI express card

I think you can, provided that you obtain a Gobi 2000 card with Lenovo FRU. A generic Gobi 2000 card or a Gobi 2000 card from another vendor will not work in your W510 without BIOS modding.

Hi I believe my W510 (4389-2SU) has a Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband card installed but I can't tell for your sure. It's not showing up in the device manager list. I've run the Gobi 2000 driver installer and also installed Access Connections. I use ATT so I ran the Gobi coniguration utility to use the ATT image (2) which it seemed to do with no errors. I also updated the Gobi based code as suggested on the driver downloads site How can I tell whether the Gobi card is installed without opening the machine up? Thanks Mark

Answer:Checking for presence of Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband Card

Hello mate, You don't have a WWAN modem in your machine. The 4329-2SU has just a WWAN option.

This is a follow up post to my original post about Mobile Broadband on M6800.
I purchased the Dell Wireless™ DW5808 Gobi 4G/LTE full Mini-Card (Manufacturer Part# : 1N1FY | Dell Part# : 1N1FY) and installed it in my Precision M6800.  I went to my local Verizon store and picked up the correct SIM card (based on the IMEI of the card).
After powering up my laptop, Windows 10 recognized the card and reported it needed a driver.  I went to Dell's website and downloaded what I thought was the correct driver and installed it.  The installation reported that the driver was successfully installed, however Windows Device manager reports the card still has no driver.
Wash, rinse, repeat over and over again.  So far I have tried all of these drivers, and every one reports the installation went correctly, but Windows 10 Device Manager reports the card has no driver.

Hi Everybody!!Finally I purchased the Lenovo w500 notebook and I'm really happy with this product.I have one question about using the Ericsson f3507g Broadband mini Card to connect to a 3G network outside United states. The notebook i have purchased came with the AT&T broadband.Of course I can´t use it because I'm outside united states. So, I would like to use it with my 3g internet connection.I've tried to set up the connection but I had no success.I can only connet throught GPRS/EDGE but not to the 3g network using my SIM card.I have read a lot of information over internet but it is not clear. As I told, I can connect to edge using Access Connection but not to 3g despite the signal strenght is very good.I also tried to set up a dial uo connection and connect directly without using access connection, but I had no success. The dial up connection try to connect but it is not possible. Can someone help me about this issue?I don't know what else to do!Thank you in advance!Marcelo

Answer:Ericsson f3507g Broadband mini Card on w500

Depending on your provider, you might have something that is 3g, but in your area doesn't support it. For example, when I'm on holiday in Finland, Finland has 3g providers, but where I'm located "at the cottage at the lake" I'm connected to a mast that only supports GPRS/edge. The area is not very populated, thus they haven't upgraded that mast yet, they start with dense populated area-masts and work their way down, or maybe they just decided that the traffic on this mast is enough for it to be updated etc. Here at home in Denmark, I have 3g connection because my everyday home is located in a populated area, and my local mast does in fact support 3g. Anyway, try searching for a coverage map from your provider, maybe your local mast isn't able to give you 3g connections at all.Message Edited by OrosAraba on 26-03-2009 09:07 AM

Hi all.I've recently buyed a ThinkPad W530 (Lenovo Model Number: N1K4JIX).Tecnical sheet and distributor sheet say that in this model there is an "3G Open SIM" WWAN card. In fact, i've under the battery the slot for insert my 3G Telephon VODAFONE SIM.The problem is that i not can see nothing (software or hardware switch) that can control 3G Broadband connection.I update the notebook at Win8, with shipped Lenovo CD, i try to install ERICHSON drivers but this give me error (it's impossible initialize device). Now, my intret is in first how i know if i really have an Mobile Broadband Mini Card installed and not only the SIM slot and, after iěm sure of this, how can i enable and use 3G connection with my laptop?Thank very much at all, regards,Mauro.

Answer:ThinkPad W530 Mobile Broadband Mini Card

Hi, mauroreggio

If you navigate to Control Panel ? Device Manager, you should be able to see the listed network adapters in the computer. Can you post what these adapters are or take a screenshot of them? If a mobile broadband card is installed in your machine, it should show up there.

Best,
Adam

Are there any Lenovo engineers on the board that have knowledge of the GOBI WWAN chipset? The GOBI website lists the newer T series as machines that support GOBI, but no one at the support line knows anything about GOBI. I need to know if the Verizon UNDP card is actually a GOBI card before I order it, and if it will work with my 2765-T2U. I want to use Sprint here in the states, but I am going to Europe in two weeks and I want to use an HSDPA carrier such as Vodaphone while I'm there. I dont know if I should order the card because I cant seem to confirm anything at all. The phone support people are nice but admit to knowing nothing about it..I've talked to several of them and they told me to come here and find an engineer! Thanks for any help you might provide! Matt

Answer:Qualcomm Gobi Broadband Wireless

Bevpro, If everything is correctly installed, then you should be able to connect using Lenovo Access Connections. I have the same card, and I'm able to connect via Access Connections. Access Connections (Advanced view) should have two profiles:HSPA Mobile Broadband -- this is the one for AT&TVerizon WirelessSelect HSPA Mobile Broadband profile, and it should walk you through connecting to AT&T. Good luck,

I was told by a sales rep that the 78Y1399 GOBI 2000 Broadband option would work for a T500.  I purchased the option and installed in into the T500 without a problem.  Fired up the system and was greeted with the unauthorized hardware message.  I ran the latest T500 bios update but that didn't address the problem.  Is there a utility or update that can authorize a Lenovo GOBI 2000 card in a T500?

Hmmm... the T500 Hardware Maintenance Manual doesn't list the newer GOBI 2000... just the Ericsson F3507g and Qualcomm UNDP1 (GOBI 1000).  Either of those will work.

I've been using a T400s with the mini dock to drive dual monitors for quite a while now.  Recently, I've noticed an issue in that after I undock, and come back to redock the system.  When I redock, my monitors synch up just fine and the display switches over just as it should.  However, it appears USB has gone dead throughout the system.  I am running a small USB hub off the mini dock, so I thought it was that.  But after more investigation, it appears USB throughout the laptop has gone dead.  Not only can I not get my peripherals to work after redocking, butcan plug in a USB key directly to the laptop to find that it never sees the key either.  So it appears the whole USB bus on the system itself has gone off into the weeds. Another odd symptom is that once it's in this state, it hangs if I were to attempt to put it into sleep and I have to power it off to recover.  Only course of action to fix it is a reboot.  I've noticed this doesn't happen after every undock/redock situation, but once it does, I'm fooked and I have to reboot to get USB functionality back.  My first thought was to try to update the chipset driver, but I'm not finding one available on the web.  Anybody else having troubles with this? T400S with win7 ultimate and USB mini dock.

Brand new HP Z Book 17 [email protected] It has the embedded 4211 GOBI LTE broadband device installed. (Verified by removing the cover and looking at the label pasted on laptop. The SIM was working in another laptop with no issues. SIM/IMEI was provided to Verizon and verified configured properly in the network. HP connection manager shows  broadband wireless connects to the Verizon network on the first try but there is no data connectivity. Unable to connect to anything with a browser. This is done without the laptop connected to any network. The laptop works perfectly on WiFi LAN and Wired LAN connections though. The HP connection manager show NOTHING in the "Mobile Broadband" tab which seems to indicate the HP connection manager is not talking to the GOBI properly even though it connects to the Verizon network. The lastest 4211 driver on the website appears to have issues during installation as it states "unsuccesfully installed" several times. HP, what is the issue here ? Brand new laptop, working SIM card, Wireless Broadband connectivity is no functional !!!!!!!!

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

When I ordered my T410s, I chose the "upgradeable" option.  What does that exactly mean?  Does this mean that I have all the hardware already pre-installed, and I just need a SIM card and a service plan?  I noticed what appears to be a SIM card slot underneath the battery.  Should have thought ahead when I ordered the ThinkPad and had them set it up ready to go from the beginning.  Thanks.

Answer:Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradeable vs. Gobi 2000

Upgradable means you have the SIM slot and built-in antenna, but need to insert a WWAN mini PCI adapter like the Gobi 2000. So you have all the hardware except the WWAN adapter. The WWAN adapter is easy to insert and not that expensive to buy so it's no big deal, but if you are going to use mobile broadband you could as well have bought the Gobi 2000 instead of upgradable. You need a SIM card and a plan as well from a mobile network operator in your country. -gan

I have an issue with the Qualcom GOBI broadband option for Verizon.  I can connect fine, but my machine will power off the wireless LAN radio after a few minutes (not consistant time period.  It appears that this happens only when I am on battery power, which leads me to believe it is a power saving issue.  I think I have changed all of the appropriate powersaving settings and even turned of the "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" in device manager, and it still persists. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise x64, the latest verizon access manager, and have mad sure all lenovo/qualcomm drivers are up to date. Any ideas?

Hi,I am a newbie to this stuff. I cannot get my mobile broadband card to work.I have an X121e which has upgradeable mobile broadband. Foolishly I did not buy this card at time of purchase. I have bought an unlocked Gobi 2000 and installed this and the sim card. I have installed the drivers and the broadband package from lenovo. The Gobi 2000 is shown under ports in device manager (windows 7 64bit) with a com3 allocation.However...in 'access connections' there is no adapter so I cannot set up a mobile broadband profile. Only the lan and wireless card are options. Windows 7 internet connections only gives me wired, wireless and modem options. Searching the internet I think this card needs to be shown as a network adapter.Ideas anyone please?

This may seem like a stupid question, so forgive me. I am wanting to purchase the x230, and thinking about getting the gobi 4000 card.  However, my questions is this: I have a Verizon Wireless plan with truly unlimited data... one of those that got grandfathered in. Now, can I take the sim card out of my phone, plug it into the gobi card in the x230, and get Internet access? Thanks.

Will you get Sierra Wireless mc7750 card (Gobi 4000 for Verizon Wireless, FRU 0A36318) inside of your laptop or install it yourself? If the answer is "yes", my answer for your question is "yes".But as I know Verizon doesn't need sim card for internet access, you just need to activate your modem with plan in carrier' network using Lenovo Mobile Broadband application. Download it from the site.

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

This is the full information of my 5600 card:

http://support.packardbell.com/global/item/index.php?i=spec_nvidiageforcefx5600&psn=029394120019

I hope some1 with the same card could tell me the version of the VGA bios or mayb some1 else could help me find out in some kind of way?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Anybody knows what original VGA bios this Geforce 5600 Card uses?

You wont be able to find out what the bios your card had when you bought it,the bios gets updated and changed as the cards are being manufactured, you'd have to get in touch with the card manufactuurer and ask what bios your batch of cards were shipped with,if you reverted to the original very first bios written for your card it probably wouldnt even work

Have you flashed the wrong bios accidentally Are you sure you want the bios and not the driver, forgive me if I'm mistaken

I have a quick question for those who have the Gobi 3G. When you first turn on your computer does your WWAN light stay on and remain on until you log in into Windows? Since my bluetooth light and WLAN turns off immediately after going past the BIOS screen. Since there are times when I didn't log in and my battery life was pretty drained. Wondering if there's any fix or setting changes I can make? Or is this even normal? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 3G Card powers on always at start?

Hello mate, My gobi doesn't turn on at startup. If I turn my computer off with the gobi on, the next start it will be on. But if you shut it down before turning off your laptop it shouldn't be on at startup.

Thanks in advance Hi Could anybody who own a x220 with internal wwan card gobi 3000(only that model) give me the vendor and id of this hardware?I need smth like this(it can be found in device manager) PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0085&SUBSYS_13118086 (this string is for centrino 6205). I need the same string but for gobi 3000, so could somebody past it here? If somebody owns gobi 3000 and do not know how to find it juz post here and Ill write detailed tutorial.

I don't have the Gobi 3000 device, but the information you need is here:USB\VID_1199&PID_9012 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 (QDLOADER)USB\VID_1199&PID_9013 SIERRA WIRELESS MC8355 GOBI 3000 9012 & 9013 are items for the same device. As you know 9012 is for fw loading management. Also, as you see Gobi 3000 sits on usb interface only.

I cannot find a GPS signal with a Gobi 5000 card, although the Gobi website plainly says the card it supposed to broadcast a GPS signal.  Can anyone tell me how to do this?  My software (Delorme Street Atlas USA and Microsoft Streets and Trips) each say there is no GPS device,.  The software definitely finds a USB GPS device, but not the built-in Gobi GPS. The Gobi 4000 software came with GPB enabler software, but I cannot find similar software for the Gobi 5000.

Answer:Gobi 5000 card GPS doesn't work.

I have the identical problem. Lenovo tech support has no idea what to ay about it. It has been suggested that my WWAN card needs to be activated with my wireless provider in case that "turns on" the GPS, but that strikes me as patently ridiculous.  I have reference in Device Mgr to a Sierra Wireless Location Sensor, but it is not associated with a COM port, and no software seems able to find it. This is profoundly annoying.

Hi, this is my first post to the Lenovo forums. I have a ThinkPad T510 that has a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 WWAN card installed. I'm wondering how I would go about obtaining a SIM card for my laptop. Can it be used with any service? (E.G. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon) Would the laptop be capable of running GPS Navigation? Would/could the laptop be assigned a phone number? I'm very new to the idea of WWAN on a laptop, so bear with me! I may ask some silly questions...

I'm getting such mixed information from retailers, and no answer at all from Lenovo after hanging on the phone for an hour. Some retailers say this machine does NOT have WWAN, some say it can be upgraded, and some say it is enabled (ready to go?). I appreciate that there is the NVY4LUK (glossy screen, WWAN upgradable), and NVY5FUK (anti-glare screen, not WWAN upgradable, but I am specifically looking at the top model NVY5EUK.Can anyone state the true position? I don't want to assume it's included if it's not, because the retailer will just claim that they never said it had 3G Broadband in the first place!

Answer:Edge 11 - NVY5EUK: does it have the Gobi 2000 card installed?

An update ... I placed an order today with a UK supplier for an NVY5EUK on the condition that he first find out whether the machine was fully equipped for 3G Broadband - their web site stated 'no', their techie stated 'no', I quoted the 'onebookcatalogue.pdf' from the Lenovo web site, he managed to speak to someone at Lenovo and came back with the answer that it does have full 3G Broadband. As the majority of Lenovo sellers don't seem to know what they are selling (similar problems with the AMD specs too), I wonder how many potential sales are lost because customers think they are getting less than they really are with Lenovo, and go elsewhere for the features they are looking for. Or they get a machine that does not live up to the retailer's spec, and blame Lenovo. It is surely not beyond the wit of Lenovo to publish on their web site a definitive and accurate specifications of all the machines they are currently selling - after all, they are the only ones who can really know. Most retailers seem to rely on www.icecat.biz, which is at best incomplete, and at worst misleading. When my Edge 11 arrives in a couple of days I will know for sure. I trust it will also have the anti-glare screen I am hoping for!

Question: T400s sim card

I have noticed in my new T400s battery compartment that there is what look like a sim card.  As I did not order my machine with any WWAN card, I assume that it is a fake one for place holder.  I have tried to remove it but could not. So my question is: is that place holder sim card removable ?

When I place a simcard in the cardholder. The Lenovo software says 'no simcard installed'It's a KPN(dutch) simcard. If I search on the internet I can only find information about this controller working with Vodafone cards. Is this my problem? Is there anything I need to change about my settings or anything? When I use the simcard in another USB WWan device it asks for a pin. When it is the lenovo it only says 'no sim card installed'. I hope someone can help me out. thnx for the support.

Hello, I've just bought a Gobi 2000 WWAN Card for my Thinkpad Edge 13 in order to use WLAN and WWAN. I assumed that, because I can use this both functions on demand with my T400 (with integrated WWAN option). Now as I got the card I was shocked, that there are not enough screws to hold the WLAN and the WWAN card and that there seems no way in sharing the antenna cables. Do you know a way run the WWAN card together with the former installed WLAN card, cause I would like to use the WWAN option as well as the WLAN option without changing the cards and antenna connectors. Do you know a way to use both cards and share the antenna cables or it is only possible to run one of this both pcie cards ? Regards Jens

Answer:X200t: Qualcomm Gobi for Windows 7 / Verizon WWAN card

Jim, I hope you have this working by now, but if not you should know the Lenovo have released Windows 7 Qualcomm BETA drivers, which (at least for my W500) seems to be working fine. You'll find the Win 7 BETA page here and the Qualcomm beta drivers here (ThinkPad UNDP Wireless WAN Driver) I had to uninstall the drivers I had installed from Vista, and then install these. After that , since I have a Ericsson F3507g, I also had to install the Ericsson drivers as well - don't know if this is relevant for yoy. I have this running on Lenovo W500 installed with Win 7 x64 build 7100 and build 7232. Hope this helps,Zorroson

Hi I hope someone could assist.  I bought an E120 as my country does not see the X120e I had purchased a GOBI 2000 WWAN Card from Lenovo re-seller.  The card passes through the whitelist just fine although it is not stated as one of the supported WWAN devices. I tried installing the 7xwc48ww.exe (X120e and Edge 11 WAN drivers) to see if it would work.  The GOBI Loader installs, but the driver does not load, meaning - Under device manager - PORTS - Gobi loader              - Under device manager - Network Adapters - No Gobi WAN Card  I also tried the solution from -http://curiouslynerdy.com/2009/05/qualcomm-gobi-wwan-card-on-windows-7/ but still no joy. I believe the X120 and E120 are very similar, so I assume the Gobi WAN should be able to work. Can someone suggest another solution?   Thanks much!

Anyone got advice on the best WWAN card for a T400s?  I want one that will be compatible with both ATT and Verizon.  Here's what I see available: 1.  Qualcomm GOBI Mobile BroadBand Option 2.  ThinkPad GOBI 2000 Broadband Option - No detailed info on Lenovo website. Both are the same price.

Answer:Which WWAN Card for T400s

You'll need the Qualcomm GOBI Mobile BroadBand Option. If you are configuring this at the time of purchase, the correct Gobi card should be listed. With this card, Access Connections will default to a Verizon profile, however you can create a new UMTS profile for ATT and along with an activated SIM you can get connected. The other WWAN card that is available is for WCDMA(UMTS) only, it's the 3507g card. This card will only work on the AT&T network not Verizon.

Hi,
I have a question regarding multimode fiber optic.
As it is known the singlemode fiber guide the light through core and cladding using a single ray of light which follows just one way. Multimode uses more rays for sending data.

My question is: the rays for multimode are sending on the same time or they sending at different time interval on different ways through the core?

Thanks,

I have a Medion Akoya MD 99380 and there is very little information online for this model.
The problem is it just won't charge OR turn on. It has 3 different parts with 3 charging ports:
1) Display or the tablet
2) The hinge part
3) Keyboard part
It won't charge in any of those ports BUT when I put the charger in the keyboard part, the bluetooth LED starts blinking so it is showing at least SOME signs of life. But the battery and HDD LEDs are not showing any signs. When I connect the charger to the display part, it shows nothing either.
Please help, I can't find the solution anywhere.

Can I use multi mode equipments (100FX) with single mode fiber? The runs would not be terribly long, certainly not 2km, but at least several hundred meters. I am trying to figure out if I can get a cheap setup to mess with the stuff, as I already have a fiber equipped switch; I just need the fiber and a media converter

Answer:Single mode vs multimode fiber

The short answer is no, the core size of multi-mode fiber is larger than that of single-mode fiber, single-mode fiber only allows 1 wavelength of light go through it while multi-mode has a larger core so that you can use multiple wavelengths of light. Single-mode fiber has a core size of around 10 microns in diameter, multi-mode has a core size of around 60 to 80 microns.

I'm having trouble with my T400s not recognizing my MicroSD card. So when I bought the laptop 2  months ago, I chose the 5-1 Media Card Reader option instead of the ExpressCard34. It's been reading everything fine, including my 16GB SDHC that I use for my camera and the 2GB/4GB MicroSD for my sister's NDS. But today, I tried to add some files to the MicroSD cards and the computer won't recognize the MicroSD cards anymore. When I plug the adapter into the card reader, it doesn't even have any response to it, just as if the MicroSD card is not even inserted into the adapter. I have several different adapters and MicroSD cards of different size and none of the combinations of them worked. The reader still reads the normal SD cards fine. This is very strange because it used to work a few weeks ago and now it doesn't recognize ANY of the MicroSD cards using ANY adapters. I've tried restarting the computers and made sure that it has the newest driver but nothing new happened. What's going on? I paid big big bucks for this laptop and it's already giving me so many problems after 2 months of use. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Dear Forum I've byued brandnew a lenovo B560 - a quiet good priced Notebook. But now i am trying to connect to internet with my mobile Higspeed broadband SIM, and do not find a way to do that! The Notebook is equipped with a SIM-Card-Slot-In and throug this Slot i can see some golden conectors. But if i turn on the wireless-functionality with [Fn]+[F5] i just can see the WLAN-Card on/off switch. Even the installation of ReadyComm 5 did not solve my probs. On my Notebook is Win7 home premium with the normal standard-setup, no changes. Is there something I have not taken?I appreciate every help, thank you in advance! regards - sandy

Answer:Mobile-Broadband with Lenovo B560 / SIM-Card equipped / no reaction if SIM-Card pushed in

Hello mate, It's not because you have a sim card reader that you have a modem installed inside. If your laptop is wwan ready, it comes with the sim card reader and the antenna installed and that's it.If you can't see the wwan modem in the Fn+F5 menu it's most likely because you don't have a modem. Have a look there to see if you have a wwan modem or not : http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/configuration/configuration.html

It looks like there will be an extra mini PCI-e slot open for either a WWAN card or HD broadcom accelerator chip on the new s10-3 series.  I have experimented with this chip and it does help the underpowered netbooks play HD video.

Answer:s10-3 and Broadcom HD mini PCI-e card

Is there any testing of this broadcomm chip for the S12 VIA's?

I've just had two friends T-42's returned to me for one last go-around (they need "indestructable" laptops, for one a kid and one out on a ocean-going tug). They've been maxed-out about as far as a T-42 can, but I've seen there is a 128 GB PATA/IDE SDD.I picked up some cheap Win-7 OEM licenses. So the last things are...1. Was a Wireless N Mini-PCI card ever made to replace the Intel 2200BG? If so would it needs a hacked BIOS like the Middleton T-61 no-whitelist one?2. Was a DVD-burner ever made for these, like the Multi-III for the T-61? Thanks!

I have installed a DW700 mini GPS card I bought off ebay in my Latitude E6410.
Systems is: E6410, 500gb hdd, i5 CPU, 8GB ram, Win 10.
I have the card installed in the Dell On PCIe slot (by removing the top blank half of the card to make it fit a half space slot. I have re-routed the spare WLAN antenna to the location for the GPS receiver.
I have the driver installed WD700 CP210x Uart bridge and it shows up as COM3 which I have since switched to COM5 (I use a USB to RS232 to program radios that I have set up for COM3)

I am not getting a NMEI string from the unit.
It shows up under ports in device mannager, and also shows up as connected to one of the USB hubs (so the PCIe slot must have USB support).

No matter what I do I cannot get the thing to send NMEI data over COM5. I have tried various GPS specific apps that look for NMEI data on COM ports, and have also tried getting the data my using various terminals & hyperterminal applications to no avail.

I am thinking this is just another USB driver issue, I have had USB RS232 drivers not work in the past. Is there an alternative driver I can use? Perhaps a prolific variant?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I bought this Generic USB All in 1 Mini Card Reader off eBay (Some Cheap chinese thing) It worked fine on my previous setup, Windows Vista x64, and it still works on my fathers computer, Vista x64 I believe. But When I try to connect it to my current Windows 7 x64 install, it justs gives me an I/O device error, I think it might have something to do with the Device driver for Win 7 It might not be compatible, I don't know just thought somebody might have an idea if I can get it to work in Windows 7

System specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel Pentium D 3.4Ghz
2GB ram

Answer:USB All in 1 Mini Card Reader

It's Windows7 which can't manage to do what its predecessors could, forcing you to either hunt for, and perhaps adapt drivers - or buy new hardware which works out of the box.

Welcome to the real world...

Question: Mini Card Issues

I have been pulling hair of my head (not literally) because I got Windows Server 2008 (NOT R2) and I can't connect to the internet because my Mini Card Wireless Adapter is not showing up on screen! This is a laptop so no opening and closing for me. And it worked on Windows 7 perfectly but not on WS2008
Can you help me find the drivers
EDIT: The Wireless Card is Ralink but I gone to the website and downloaded the software but it didnt work. How does Win 7 do it?

Answer:Mini Card Issues

I'd recommend you connect to the internet directly with an ethernet cable, then see if device manager can find the driver for you. Also, if you can get online that way, update everything in Windows Update, since that might also find the right driver for you.

This has been driving me cRAZY! I have a "mini card device" in my device manager that doesn't have a driver... I have scoured the internet for answers and thought i had a fix a couple of times but nothing seems to work.

It just states Code 28 and this... Port_#0001.Hub_#0005

Nothing else... any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Lenovo T61 (Mini Card)

Your T61 should have more to the model #, like 6465, 7664, 7663.
It could be your Intel Wireless card. Let me know the full model #. You should also have a 7-digit product # (e.g., 2668-KHU)

Hi. I wasn't sure whether to put this in Consumerwatch or here, but settled on here. Sorry if it's the wrong place.Basically, does anyone know of a good, reliable Mini PCI Wireless Card that has the ability to use WPA2, for use in a laptop. So far I've only found Mini PCI Express cards that are able to do this, not Mini PCI. The closest I've found is this: click here but as you can see it isn't WPA2 compliant, ony WPA.If anyone can help, that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Mini-PCI Wi-Fi Card with WPA2?

Atheros wireless cards support WPA2 , but not often with the retailers drivers , but using XPsp2 or above or Vista ( which has support ) and the Atheros generic driver from click here ( Vista ) or click here ( XP ) Look at the top of the page to see that it applies to just about all of their chipsets . Personally I love these cards , I find them reliable and capable of holding a signal at great distance and good throughput . Ashley

puke: I am not too familiar with working with sd cards in fact this is my first one. I was trying to sync my windows media player music list onto the card and it had almost finished and got to the last song when it just stopped and said no device was found and the computer did not even recognize that the card reader was plugged in anymore. so after I pulled it out and then reinserted the card reader it now tells me that the card is not formatted andif I try to format it I am told that windows was unable to complete the format. Not sure what I am doing wrong. If anyone has any info I can use I would appreciate it. Thanks

Answer:1 GB mini Sd card will not format

My L10 has no internal wifi card installed but the motherboard has a socket for it. The wifi switch on the front is blanked off and the keyboard hot key is not configured.
If a card was added could the hot key be configured to be an on/off

Answer:Can I add a mini pci WiFi card in my Sat Pro L10?

Hi

As far as I know you can upgrade the unit with the wifi mini PCI card. The Fn keys should also works and should enable the antenna with the key combination FN+F8.
I also found the hotkey utility and a wireless driver for this unit on the Toshiba page.

Hi. I am intending to install an Intel Turbo Memory Card into one of the MiniPCI slots in my Dell Latitude D630. I have performed hardware upgrades before, mostly on Desktops, but once on a Laptop. That time I was installing a WiFi Card into an Inspiron 510m, and it was very simple. However, I have just performed a test run on an out of service D630 I have in my possession (not the one I intend to finally install it on, which hasn't yet arrived from Dell), and I found it slightly more complicated.I have printed off all the instructions from the Dell site and was following them on my test run. Although I didn't physically install the card, I sort of placed it over it just to see how it would go in etc., but I noticed it doesn't have a slot for the antennae cables that are protruding over the slot, which are meant to be used if you're installing a WAN card. As such, when I do actually install the ITM for the real thing, what do I do with these cables? It says in the Dell manual not to place the cables on the card, but there doesn?t much else I can do with them. Any help would be appreciated, even if it's just genral advice on hardware upgrades. I really do not want to damage a completely band new laptop.

Answer:Mini PCI Card Installation

Having just quickly read the Intel and Dell specifications for Intel Turbo Memory it seems that it's just an internal form of Readyboost for use with Vista. If your new laptop has 2GB or more RAM then I doubt you'll see any difference. However can you post a link to the Dell instructions you're working from?

Well, I went to turn on my R40 this am and got the error msg that my mini PCI network card is not authorized and must be removed before my system will start up. Funny ... it's the original network card so how can it be unauthorized???? Any ideas of what may have caused my system to hiccup like this? Any quick fix ideas of how to get my laptop working again? BTW, it's a 2681-MU1 and I've had it for 4.5 yrs now. Thanks!

Answer:R40 mini PCI network card

Welcome to the forum! Personally, I'd remove the card anyway and do a BIOS update, then see what happens... Your system should be able to take IBM (Atheros) a/b, b/g, or a/b/g cards as well. I'd take this as a sign that it's time to update... Good luck and let us know.
