Preferred Solution: Thinkpad T510 with GOBI 3000

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone, I'm facing a problem with the Thinkpad E130 and the integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355 Gobi 3000 broadband modem. I can't use them with my SIM cards. No connection is established. I'm sure that a modem is integrated since it was specifcally ordered with it and it shows up in the device manager. What I ruled out:- Hardware defect: There is a second Thinkpad E130 with the same setup, where it doesn't work either.- Service provider problem: Tried two SIM cards from two different service providers.- SIM card problem: SIM cards work in mobile 3G router. What I did:- Shut down the notebook- Put a sim card in the slot in the back of the laptop, behind the battery.- Reboot the notebook and start the Thinkvantage Access Connections software.- The sim card usually does get detected and a suitable profile is shown automatically.- Nonethless I created a profile myself. More exactly two profiles for the two service providers. The data for the APN, etc. is gathered either from the internet or from a second software I use.- I try to connect with the profile which is automatically shown and the self-created profiles.- It tries for several minutes but then quits with an error message: 'Unable to connect to network at this time due to out of coverage or Your SIM-card may not be activated. Please see Lenovo Mobile Broadband Actviation or contact your mobile operator. Do you want to sign up now?' - I tried to connect with a second software called MWconn, which ... Read more

Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here.  From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

Question: T510: Gobi 2000

I am an insurance salesman, not an IT guy, so it was a painful experience, but I got it done. When delivered, I had chosen configured for WWAN.  I discovered that I had to now order a Wireless card.  That done, I followed the picture for installation that one needs a magnifying glass to read.  There is no instructions on how to hook up the wires to the card, and I had to struggle to get the wires to lay in a manner that would allow me to close everything up.  The first couple of tries resulted in the wires popping off as soon as I tried to secure the card in its slot. Next was getting a mobile broadband data plan.  I chose Verizon and wanted a minimum monthly plan.  To choose the Lenovo option would mean a 2 year committment at the highest price per month.  The only problem is that few people at Verizon know how to set this up.  I was transferred to a tech I think may be in Atlanta, but he was the only Verizon tech that understood what I wanted.  You have to insist to Verizon that you have an embedded chip wireless card.  They will try their best to get you to install a USB dongle.  With the Gobi chip, your equipment is customer provided (CPE) so Verizon will allow you a month to month contract and no cancellation charges.  I found out that I could make a small software change and get the Gobi to work with Sprint, so I am waiting to see how Verizon works out.  If I don't like them, I can switch without... It worked perfectly for the first week and then it could not longer be found? We looked in device manager and tried everything but in the end it seems it must have come unplugged? Now my week old computer will need to go in for repair. I asked the CSR and the manager if they could have someone come look at it to get it fixed since it was only a week old and they said no.

My T510 did not come with the WWAN adapter so I had to install it myself.  It's 4 screws and a lift of the keyboard to get to it -- very easy to get to.  Go for it!

Question: Gobi 3000 in W510

Will a Gobi 3000 work in a W510 inplace of the existing Gobi 2000?

Answer:Gobi 3000 in W510

From my experience with older machines, it will, provided only that the BIOS is white-list patched; otherwise the system will not boot up and would report "unauthorized PCI express card detected" or the like. In short, Gobi 3000 will not work unless your BIOS is patched such that it bypasses the white-list detection.

Hi everyone, I just bought a X120e (0596CTO). It is mobile broadband upgradable, and so I searched the wireless accessories to find a suitable card. Both the GOBI 2000 and 3000 were listed as compatible. So naturally I bought the 3000 since its the newer version. When I received the machine I did all of the Windows and Lenovo updates. Then I popped the back off and put the GOBI 3000 in there but when I booted up I got an unauthorized part error and that the startup was halted. So I went to the Lenovo driver website and manually downloaded the BIOS update utility and the GOBI 2000/3000 driver utility. The BIOS update said I had the latest BIOS and the GOBI utility didn't install because no wireless card was detected. So I called tech support and they told me first off that the GOBI 3000 is not even listed only the 2000 (wrong!) and then he asks me "Are you sure this machine is broadband upgradable". Yes! It's listed as a perk right on the sales page. Plus where did he think I was shoving the card into (the RAM slot?) :-)  I'm usually nice, but this guy was irritating since he was incredibly slow and essentially accusing me of having mindlessly buying incompatible devices. When he says that there is nothing he can do for me, I tell him that I guess I'll exchange it, but that they should fix the sales webpage. He doesn't believe me! (because the PSREF website has it all listed differently). So I walk him through how it was that I came upon the GOBI... Read more

Ok so to start off my Model is T420 ok so this is my second gobi i've Might've ruined due to how sensitive the hardware is - ok so the history goes that i've instsalled windows 8 (iso provided from MS's secretive (idk if it is a secretive onedrive or not)one drive) and upgraded to 8.1 and it instaslled perfect with all drivers onboard from Lenovo System Updater Uitlity and after a fight with bluetooth not shutting down i've decied to go back to OEM system and the first thing i noticed when going to check in device manager(habbit) is Gobi 3000 not installing drivers with a code 10 so the question i ask... Is it possible that the transition from win 8 - 8.1 - back to OEM win 7 did something hardware wise to the gobi? also sorry if i spelled something wrong - that's what happens when you take 5MGx2 melatonin

Answer:Sensitive Gobi 3000? or ???

Ok so I found out that my gobi /3g module might be a windows 8/8.1 onesince the windows 7 version of the driver doesn't install the driver on windows 7 but the windows 8/8.1 version of the driver installs just fine on both windows 7 pro x64 and windows 8/8.1 pro x64and yes I've run the recovery dvd's a few times which is windows 7 pro and the gobi doesn't look to be installed when checking device manager Each of those times -I think someone might be handing out modified gobi 3000's or in short 3g module's to fit in on a certain driver made for another system instead of it's original system (it's what I think am not sure)so in short case closed.

Question: Gobi 3000 problems

Hello,   I have a new W520 and my Gobi 3000 broadband modem keeps dissapearing. I get an errors about a USB device problem and in Hardware Devices it is listed with a USB error code 43. I have to power down the computer and reboot to get it to show back up. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes after booting to dissapear and other times a few hours. Very sporadic. Interestingly, it never dissapears when I am using the modem and have an active connection to AT&T. It only dissapears while I am connected via wifi. This is most confusing to see a device malfunction only when it is not in use. It is annoying that I have to shutdown and reboot to switch over to it when I lose my wifi signal. I am using an exisiting AT&T sim with a laptop connect account I have had for years. When the Gobi 3000 is connected it works very well. Any suggestions before I call Lenovo technical support? My guess is that either the drivers are immature, or I have a defective Gobi 3000.

Answer:Gobi 3000 problems

please try these 2 things
1.  in device manager, double click on the device, go to the power management tab, and UNCHECk the option for "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2.  in power manager, DISABLE the option for USB selective suspend.  this option is in the advanced settings of your power profile.

try 1 first, if that doesn't work then try 2.  I'm not suggesting this is a long-term solution, i'm just trying to collect information about what the problem could be.

Hello @ all. I bought a new Gobi 3000 from China with FRU 60Y3257 for my W520. But i can´t turn on the Gobi with Fn+F5 Menu, WWAN Button is there - onclick nothing happens.WLAN Button works normal.WWAN driver-installation was without any troubles.  Device-Manager shows all ok - no unknown Devices. Before Gobi i had an Ericsson F5521gw inside, it worked.  Also strange thing is, the Wireless-LED is always on, also when the Hardware-Switch is off. That wasn´t so with Ericsson.Thinkpad is a W520 with Win7 Pro x64 Clean Install.Gobi Driver is 8awt11ww.Hotkey Driver is 8jvu10ww.BIOS is 1.33. No ThinkVantage Software installed.  Same mistake is on T520 - also not only a Problem with my W520... Any ideas? thx

Answer:Can not turn on Gobi 3000

Is this Gobi thing something that Lenovo offers as a pre-installed device on the W520?  I don't think so, because I can't find any reference to it in the W520 Device Driver File Matrix. It could be that the W520 is not designed to support this device, even though it physically fits into the computer. Michael

I have an X220 (Win7-64-bit) through work.  Recently ordered the Gobi 3000 (Sierra Wireless) embedded WWAN device.  I installed it per the instructions that came with it.  Activated using the Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation (on Sprint). I can connect to Sprint just fine using any of the following connection methods:1) create a DIAL modem entry and use the Gobi 3000 modem interface2) native Win7 WWAN NDIS (i.e. using the Gobi 3000 device as an NDIS "Network Adapter")3) Using Lenovo Access Connections 7 Here's the problem..... it's SLOW!  With an external Sierra Wireless AirCard 402 (also on Sprint EV-DO Rev-A), I get screaming 3G speeds (2.2+ MBps down, 1.5 MBps up)....full signal 5 bars. However, with the embedded Gobi 3000 in the same location, I get barely 800kbps down and 450 kbps up.  I made sure that the driver is the latest.  What am I doing wrong?  I can't think of anything as to why this is so slow.  It's as if I'm only getting 1xRTT speeds and not EV-DO Rev-A. Activation isn't the issue..it connect... just SLOW. Stumped!

Hi I am running a W520 with W7 ultimate and have a Gobi 3000 in it.. When I connect to the internet using the Gobi, it connects ok Once connected it will work for a while and then pings to gateway will just stop working and ( obvuously ) cannot access any sites. After a while it will communicate ok for a while and then drop again Access connections shows the session as staying connected I have put in a USB 3G card with the same sim in it to prove that it isnt the 3G network that is the problem and there is no problems at all with network use I have also had the Gobi 3000 changed Anyone any ideas on what would cause the issue?

Answer:Problem with Gobi 3000 and W520

hey dsn, hard to say what could be the issue here. have you updated the drivers for the Gobi3000 ( http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS015016 ) ?If you haven't could you try that? And if you're using Access Connection to connect, try uninstalling that and use W7's built-in connection wizard and see how it goes.

I recently purchased a T520 without the broadband option (it wasn't an option at the time).  I first tried a Gobi 2000 from an older T510 laptop but it was apparently not compatible in the T520.  Lenovo said I need the Lenovo Broadband Option with the Gobi 3000 card and they also said it would work with Verizon service.  I just installed the Gobi 3000 and the new drivers from Lenovo.  Verizon support said that there is currently no version of Verizon VZAccess manager software that will work.  Is anyone using the Gobi 3000 with Verizon service?  I suppose I could just get an external 4G device from Verizon but I really want an interal device. Thanks!

Answer:Gobi 3000 not working with Verizon

Okay, I've been working on this for over an hour.  I have the T420S and was told by Lenovo to use the Mobile Broadband software to find the ESN, except they don't make the Mobile Broadband software for the T420S yet. Originally, I went to "Access Connections" (type that in the Start Menu if you can't find it), chose the radio button "Mobile Broadband", and clicked on "Tools". When I clicked on "Mobile Broadband", and "Account Information", all I got was the IMSI and IMEI and ICCID.  There was no ESN or even MEID. So, I went to the "Setup Mobile Broadband" application (type in the Start Menu).  I changed the provider to Verizon, then hit "Start Activation".  I chose to "Activate a new wirless account" and then "Self activation".  I chose "Sign up" and let it try to initialize.  It won't initialize, but after you let it try a couple times, then go back to "Access Connections". Now when you choose "Tools" and "Mobile Broadband", then "Account information", you'll see an MEID number. That can be converted to ESN using the following converter: http://www.humpa.com/vzw/meid_to_esn.php Apparently that MEID number is also on some documentation that came with the computer, but I'm doing this for someone else, so that didn't help me too much.   Additionally, Lenovo said we could open up the computer and find the card and read the number off the card.  The way I did it is much easier than that!&nbs... I ordered a Gobi 3000 for my laptop before I went abroad and found that the local carrier here (there's only one) offers EVDO service. I ordered my EVDO service but when it came to connecting using Lenovo Access Connections, the only EVDO options that are available are Sprint or Verizon. Just for the hell of it, I decided to try both and neither worked but the card is able to see the EVDO network.  The issue is that the card will not activate (even though it is activated on the local carrier's network) because it does not see a Sprint or Verizon network. If I pop in a 3G SIM card and switch the Gobi to HSDPA, it works great but 3G is expensive here which is why it isnt a great option.  The activation is purely software/firmware related on the Gobi and it's incredibly annoying to know I spent $125 for something that simply won't work (despite the assurances by the Lenovo sales team that it wasn't software-limited or locked in any way when I asked before I bought it) Anyone have any familiarity with activating the Gobi for EVDO service on providers other than Sprint or Verizon?

EV-DO never achieved enough global market penetration to become a globally standardised technology, in either an engeineering or commercial sense.

Every EV-DO  implementation was somewhat different, so its not at all suprising that you are unable to activate a Gobi 3000 card intended primarily for access to specific US providers with an EVDO provider in another market.

The Gobi 3000 card is definitely not "locked" in itself to a provider, but many EV-DO vendors would only activate a device that they had sold themselves, for purely commercial reasons.  Also, EV-DO "activation" is quite a different thing to activation in 3G networks, so even when there is a basic technology compatibility in terms of frequency bands, there may not be an ability to activate the device within the  business model of any arbitrary EVDO provider.

Cheers,

Bill

I have a T520. I decided to post this since I couldn't find anything on it anywhere when i was trying to figure it out.Sierra site has no drivers, and the lenovo driver says its an unsupported platform even though it clearly lists XP.Here's the solution, mind you I haven't tried to connect to anything yet:Go get the regular lenovo driver for sierra wireless off of the support page, run it, let it install. You can watch the sierra installer fail after that if you wish.Go into where ever you installed the driver files to, in my case C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR (Where the lenovo branded installer put the sierra installer files)Now go into the uncompressed_drivers directory (C:\DRIVERS\WWANSR\Uncompressed_Drivers)Don't run DriverInst.exe yet. It installs all the drivers, but they wont work. (Devices do not start.)Run the two .reg files to add them to the registry (LenovoPowerManagement.reg and LenovoSupportedPIDKeys.reg)Now run DriverInst.exe, and you're done! Now if someone could tell me how to increase the maximum integrated graphics from 128 mb on a t520 I'd be in heaven!

I am considering purchasing the GOBI WWAN card.  Lenovo claims the card is compatible with the sprint network.  My carrier is sprint.  I called them up to enquire about how I can get my laptop on my plan, or get it on its own plan.  They said it didn't matter that I had this card.  I will still have to buy a sprint WWAN card.  What's the point in buying it if Sprint won't let me use it?  And why would Lenovo claim I can use it on the sprint network?

The card was perfectly detected by the system and it immedeatly tries to connect to the internet, but after a while the error message "no cellular network available" is displayed (please note: It s in Germany, using a Bildmobil/Vodafone SIM, which perfectly works with the same chromebook using a surfstick). When looking for the modem status in the crosh, the following is displayed: crosh> modem statusModem /org/chromium/ModemManager/Gobi/1:GetStatus:activation_state: 0carrier: Verizon Wirelessesn: 80075301firmware_revision: 0d010008imei: 355569041284485imsi: 262021506366626mdn: 0000003649meid: A1000004B9A8E0min: 0000003649no_signal: truepayment_url: https://quickaccess.verizonwireless.com/bbportal/chrome/start.dopayment_url_method: postpayment_url_postdata: mdn=0000003649&oem=GOG2&meid=A1000004B9A8E0prl_version: 56006technology: CDMAusage_url: https://mobile.vzw.com/vzam/servlet/vzam?client=chrome&serviceName=accountInfo&subServiceName=poundD...GetInfo:Manufacturer: Sierra Wireless IncModem: Sierra Wireless MC8355 - Gobi 3000(TM) ModuleVersion: 30500000Properties:Device: wwan0Driver: gobiEnabled: trueIpMethod: 2MasterDevice: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.6State: 40Type: 2UnlockRequired: UnlockRetries: 999CDMA:ESN: 80075301Registration:CDMA-1x: 0EVDO: 0ServingSystem:SignalQuality: 0 Might it b... Answer:GOBI WWAN MC8355 3000 (60Y3257) in Chromebook X131...

HiThe reason of issue is inappropriate fw loaded to the modem by default. It's fw for Verizon, #1 in the fw images directory structue. So, presently modem is ready to work in the CDMA/EV-DO network Verizon, only. Vodafone network needs fw #0. Most of UMTS networks need fw #6 (Generic). Modem isn't locked, just fw is a cause.Further steps for the fw changing depend on the OS installed, drivers (re)installation capabilities, external media with LiveCD etc.

As long as your 3G carrier supports BYOM (Bring Your Own Modem) for their service, AND it operates on a 3G band supported by the MC8355..... yes, you can.

Hi all I've been trying to activate the Gobi 3000 in my W530 for the past couple of days.  Although I have installed the drivers and I am able to see the "Mobile Broadband Connection" in network properties, it seems to be locekd to Verizon or Sprint (deponding on which OS I boot into) and I can't find anywhere to change this, even though I have a SIM card from the local telco (Telkom Mobile in South Africa).  Can someone please explain how to go about doing this?  The Gobi 2000 in my W510 was simply a few clicks, but this seems to be a whole different can of worms.

Hi, my company purchased x240s and the GOBI cards separately and of course they purchased the AT&T version and we use Verizon as our carrier. Now here is the thing, even with that branding from the tech specs on the Lenovo shop portal they look exactly the same. When I install the latest drivers for the GOBI card and Lenovo Access Connections I can get it to somewhat work in the beginning and then it stops working. I tried every conceivable way to get it to work all the time but it's a hit or miss until it permanently fails and the sim I use is from an x230 that also has a GOBI card. My question is does it really make a difference if it is branded as AT&T since the GOBI card does work at some point and if it doesn't matter am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help!

Hi, I have installed new win 8 on my T410s and I cant find the driver for the gobi 2000. can you direct me? thanks Doron

Answer:gobi 2000 driver for windows 8 - thinkpad t410s

Hi, doronei

I cannot find any Windows 8 drivers for your system on Lenovo's website. Drivers are sometimes compatible with different versions of operating systems than those listed, so I would try the drivers here and see if it helps. You will likely need the driver for activation of the card and the driver itself, so make sure you get both of them. If it does not help, then you will be able to uninstall it from Device Manager.

Hope it helps,
Adam

Hi all, I've just bought a new ThinkPad W510 equipped with the Mobile BroadBand Option: Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Mobile Broadband Device 9205. I've installed from scratch Windows 7 Ultimate - 64bit as the Operating System and then I've updated every specific driver using the Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update v.4.0 utility. So, in Network and Sharing Center, I've a new running Mobile BroadBand Connection labeled as Verizon Wireless and then it comes my problem. I'm writing from ITALY and in my country there is NO Verizon Roaming Connection available. I'm also using a pre-paid contract SIM card with Vodafone IT provider, inserted in the correct back-battery SIM-slot. Is there a way to configure the Gobi 9205 device to work correctly with Vodafone provider? I've just searched a lot on google without results. The only suggestions derive from this web page: CLICK HERE But it seems to be a specific GobiLoader for Gobi 9201/9202 device and not for mine 9205. I've tried to launch the loader.exe but it seems that the file and some specific informations about the firmware/driver mismatch from the two versions. So, is there any official Lenovo way to use Mobile Connection with Vodafone provider? Thank you all in advance!

Answer:ThinkPad W510 and Qualcomm Gobi 2000 9205

Hi guys, after a research inside the driver unpackaged folder I've found a Readme doc file. I've found the way to install another firmware for Gobi 2000 9205 with specific provider informations. After a complete uninstall of Qualcomm Gobi 2000 drivers, at the command prompt, in the folder with the unpackaged driver, I need to enter this string: Setup.exe /i /l DEFAULTIMAGE=0 GPS=1 WIN7DRIVER=1 LOCATIONDRIVER=1 where the "DEFAULTIMAGE=0" substring indicates the provider to use.It seems that installation process completes fine, I can find inside the "C:/Program Data/QUALCOMM/" folder, a log file which indicates that the firmware loaded is the one from the "0" folder, where "0" means Vodafone. These are the informations about the folder with the corresponding firmware I've found on google: Vodafone 0Verizon 1AT&T 2Sprint 3T-Mobile 4Generic UMTS (North America) 5Generic UMTS (Europe) 6Telefonica 7TIM 8Orange 9Telstra 10 But the problem is not solved. Despite the Vodafone information has been clearly written inside the log file, in my Network and Sharing Center there is always "Verizon Wireless" as WWAN network connection :-( How can I solve this problem? Why is the Verizon provider persistent even if I've installed the driver with the "0" (Vodafone) default image? Where am I wrong?I'm an IBM of Italy employee and I need a working WWAN connection with Vodafone provider ASAP. Thank you in advance!

When I place a simcard in the cardholder. The Lenovo software says 'no simcard installed'It's a KPN(dutch) simcard. If I search on the internet I can only find information about this controller working with Vodafone cards. Is this my problem? Is there anything I need to change about my settings or anything? When I use the simcard in another USB WWan device it asks for a pin. When it is the lenovo it only says 'no sim card installed'. I hope someone can help me out. thnx for the support.

Hello, I've just bought a Gobi 2000 WWAN Card for my Thinkpad Edge 13 in order to use WLAN and WWAN. I assumed that, because I can use this both functions on demand with my T400 (with integrated WWAN option). Now as I got the card I was shocked, that there are not enough screws to hold the WLAN and the WWAN card and that there seems no way in sharing the antenna cables. Do you know a way run the WWAN card together with the former installed WLAN card, cause I would like to use the WWAN option as well as the WLAN option without changing the cards and antenna connectors. Do you know a way to use both cards and share the antenna cables or it is only possible to run one of this both pcie cards ? Regards Jens

We received 2 brand new X1 Carbon (type 20A7) models and neither have been able to detect the Gobi 5000 WWAN card (Sierra Wireless EM7355, Lenovo Part# 0C52902.)  The X1 Carbon's are running the latest drivers (including BIOS update), Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1- it doesn't matter: They will not detect the WWAN card in the WWAN slot. Tried 2 different WWAN cards straight out of the box from Lenovo (these happen to be the Verizon variants, I don't have any AT&T ones handy) and it's like it doesn't even exist. Yet I can remove either Gobi 5000 card and install it into a T440s and it comes up without any issue. I've tried taking a working and activated Gobi 5000 card out of a T440s and putting it into the X1 Carbon, yet the X1 Carbon refuses to recognize the device exists in Device Manager. I spent about an hour on the phone with Lenovo tech support who ultimately told me my question was "Out of scope" and something they would not handle. The tech even agreed with my frustration that it's listed right on the **bleep** Lenovo product site: "Mobil [sic] Broadband: Sierra Wireless 7355 - Gobi 5000" and couldn't explain why A) It wasn't working orB) Why Lenovo feels a feature listed on their own marketing materials was "out of scope" for support. She also confirmed the part number is exactly the same and the T440s and the X1 Carbon use the identical part. The tech ultimately speculated that some type of magical "system board upgrade"... Question: Thinkpad T510

Hi gang, new member and new owner of the mighty Thinkpads My questions for the forum are as follows:I purchased a stripped T510 with no battery , caddy or hard drive.I purchased a new 6 cell battery and hard drive caddy and now have a problem deciding which ssd to choose.I have my eye on:OCZ Agility 3 60gb ( agt3-25sat3-60g )OCZ Vertex 2 90gb ( oczssd3-2vtx90g )Or any intel ssd thats at least 60gbI understand the T510 is limited to its sata 2 controller(3gb/s) and it is fine. Im not going to use my laptop to break any speed records. I will be getting an ultabay and adding a cheap 320gb hard drive 7925DDfor storage or just use my external enclosure and the delicious eSata port ( i get excited about my laptop easily) so I am not worried about the difference in ssd capacity all that much(60 gb vs 90)What I am interested in is the experience of the forum in regards to what ssd the T510 will play nice with.Should I stay away from OCZ or Intel? I can update firmware if necessary but would like a good dependable ssd to use.Windows 7 will be my OS.Thanks for any advices.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm currently using several Intel 320 series SSDs along with a Crucial M4 (lenovo version, known as Micron C400) and these would get my highest recommendations.

My experiences with OCZ have been mixed, and I'm being kind here. The customer support in itself left a *lot* to be desired.

Yesterday I realized that my ThinkPad T510 (4314-7NU) does NOT have any eSATA ports in contrast to what is stated on each and every product specification one could only found on the internet. All the pictures of the left side of the laptop I have seen contains eSATAp (USB/eSATA combo) on it, excepts mine.Basically, instead of this:

on my laptop I have this:

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_6dQZiozfUeU/TVY_F_VGRdI/AAAAAAAABDA/8fekJUp51KY/t510.usb.JPG

What is it? Is it a normal USB?? Why does it look differently from the other USB ports?

What other options do I have to connect my eSATA cable excepts using eSATA/USB adapter. I want to be able to benefit from the high speed SATA interface, so USB is not an option for me.

Thank you!

Hi, I have just purchased a T510 with the 27++ slice battery, the battery "User Guide" is anything but ! Can someone please tell me whether there are any restrictions on when I connect & disconnect the slice battery?i.e., can it be plugged and unplugged without powering down, hibernating or sleeping the Thinkpad? For the battery to be useable, I'd certainly hope so, but as it connects to the docking connector, I'd like to know for sure before I do it for the first time. As an aside, I have also just read that if you unplug the slice with the Thinkpad in sleep mode, even with a fully charged normal battery connected, the laptop goes to a power off state. - has anyone here seen that?  Can it be corrected? regardsDave

Answer:Using 27++ battery with Thinkpad T510

Hallo,as no separate instructions for replacing the battery follow with the slice battery, check the Access Help User's Guide for instructions. If it doesn't offer special instructions for the slice battery, i suppose that its general instructions for replacing the main battery are better than nothing. For my notebook, which isn't a T510, the Access Help User's Guide says: turn off or hibernate the notebook, disconnect the AC adapter and all cables. Install or remove the battery. Then, connect the AC adapter and all other cables. The Safety and Warranty Guide for your notebook gives some additional information on disconnecting and connecting cables to the notebook. It says: Connect and disconnect cables as described in the following procedures wheninstalling, moving, or opening covers on this product or attached devices. To connect:1. Turn everything OFF.2. First, attach all cables to devices.3. Attach signal cables to connectors.4. Attach power cords to outlets.5. Turn devices ON.To disconnect:1. Turn everything OFF.2. First, remove power cords from outlets.3. Remove signal cables from connectors.4. Remove all cables from devices. The power cord must be disconnected from the wall outlet or receptacle beforeinstalling all other electrical cables connected to the ThinkPadŽ computer. The power cord may be reconnected to the wall outlet or receptacle only after allother electrical cables have been connected to the computer.

I bought a T510 in July (2011).  3 to 4 times a day my  T510 locks up. The only solution is to coldstart the laptop. I saw some messages about this problem in 2010, but did not read about a solution. Is this a known problem, also for these new T510's ? Is there a fix ?

Answer:Thinkpad T510 Lockup

Same here! When you browse through the list of posts you may notice hat this is quite a common feature with T510, T520 ... Nobody seems to have a good answer. It has probably nothing to do with the OS, as I run under Linux and I have the problem since the very beginning (i.e.. October 2010). My guess is that it is a hardware problem. My T510 often locks up when I scroll with the arrow keys on the right for more than a screen-length . Perhaps some of the community / site maintainers has a solution?? RegardsMartin

Is there one? Can it be ordered from somewhere? If not, is there a site where some type of user manual can be downloaded? Just something that identifies the use of each key, and maybe lists and explains some of the various functions. TIA

Hi everyone,I have a T510 laptop and for any game i try doesn't matter if its high quality or not I always have unstable fps; by that i mean my fps would go for ~70fps then dip right down to 16fps then jumps up to 70fps and dips down again to 16fps. These 2 cycles would occur in a span of 5 sec. I even have problems watching videos on youtube with 1080P setting. I know this must be related to my configuration, or something along that lines. I also updated all my drivers from the lenovo site. I was wondering if anyone can help with this problem. My specs are:windows 7 OS 64bit4gig rami5 cpu m520 @ 2.40GHzNVS3100M Thank you,Sincerely,MorisatoK1

Hello, I just bought an intel SSD 510 for my Thinkpad T510.There is a major issue, in that I cannot get the T510 to see the drive in Windows 7 installer. The drive appears in the bios but I cannot choose it during the install. Do you know which driver I should include in the Windows 7 install disk ? I have tried many to no avail. Thank you very much

Answer:Thinkpad T510 with Intel SSD 510

Hi,I think you should look for chipset/controller driver, not SSD itself. I don't know which chipset you have exactly, that would help.I have T500 with Intel SSD and I had no problems with installation.

I just got back to my relatively new laptop and it had shutdown after a BSOD. Any ideas on what this could be would be great. Here are some details about my computer:

lenovo thinkpad t510
intel i7 620m
nvidia nvs3100m
windows 7 pro 32 bit (original installed OS)
very new hardware/software

I have re installed windows 7, as I needed two partitions

I have attached a zip

thanks

Answer:Bsod on lenovo thinkpad t510

Hi and welcome to SF!

This is a pretty common issue with window 7. One of the thing I would like you to try is to do a system file check:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You have some out of date driver:

Code:
Tppwr32v Tppwr32v.sys Thu Jun 12 21:27:57 2008 (4851DB2D)
ibmpmdrv ibmpmdrv.sys Thu May 31 04:52:39 2007 (465E9AE7)
smiif32 smiif32.sys Mon May 12 04:01:06 2008 (48280752)
psadd psadd.sys Mon Feb 19 12:56:45 2007 (45D9F2ED)
The first 2 drivers are belonged to Lenovo thinkpad Power manager drivers. Please download a newest version and install. I used to do that with my computer and it fixed the BSODs.

The 3rd driver I listed is belonged to SMI Driver for Lenovo system and the last one is belonged to Lenovo Parties Service Access Device Driver (SMBIOS). It can be an utility from Lenovo, take your time and find it on the lenovo driver website.

If none of the option work, I would go for a repair install
Here is one of the thread I used to work on, looks exactly the same as yours

Hi, I purchased my Thinkpad T510 in around May 2010. Recently i observed a strange issue with my laptop, when ever i shutdown the machine and the next day i restarted it the battery was totally drained. This process continued for some time. Since last 2 weeks, my laptop has become totally dysfunctional, it starts to boot and when i login into the Windows 7 environment, it shuts down unexpectedly as if all the power is drained out. This happens even when it is connected to a power source. I assumed it must be a virus and tried reinstalling the OS, but this unexpected shutdown is happening during installation also. Now the machine is completely unusable, only time i can login without shut is if i select WIndows SAFE MODE login. I also tried removing the battery and boot only through the power, still during a normal login, this behavior is happening. Please advise on what could be the issue and what actions i should do to diagnose the issue. thanksvenkat

Hi, For some reason, the thinkpad t510 all of a sudden has fits of sound distortion like buzzing when it is playing a music. For example I am listening to something on itunes while browsing firefox, and occasionally the sound will buzz. I have not encountered this problem before. Could it be nvidia driver related with its HD audio or what ever? My HD Conexnant drivers are update. Nothing really has changed. This problem is new. A bit of googling states that it might be a virus related issue...but I got norton and full system scan has revealed nothing. Any pointers/hints/tips? Thanks

Hi, I have a ThinkPad T510 and recently bought a genuine Lenovo 70++ Battery. I get an average of about 3 hours out of it. Lenovo Power Manager says it's in good condition with a Full Charge Capacity of 93.52 Wh. The battery was manufactured in July of this year (2016). I also have a stockpile of new genuine Lenovo 25+ Batteries at my work. They were manufactured in 2015 and can only last about an 1.5 hours. Is this normal? I don' t do gaming on my laptop and don't use it very heavily (I don't have multiple browser tabs open while running tons of other stuff at the same time). I've heard people getting 8 hours out of these batteries! Meanwhile, I carry around 5 genuine Lenovo batteries in my laptop bag so I don't run out at the end of the day! Any suggestions? My arms are getting tired!

Is is possible to link a Thinkpad T510 to a DJ mixer (Beringer)? I can only see a headphone output but do I also need a line out? Cheers JH

Answer:Linking Thinkpad T510 TO DJ MIXER

Hi Herbster38,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are looking for Additional Audio port for ThinkPad T510.

In ThinkPad T510 it is shipped combo audio port, and its function is that you can use Headphone and Mic. Where Headphone output is same as Line out.

However if you are looking for multiple audio ports for your system, you can purchase USB audio card which will be very much suitable for your requirement.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hi all, I've got a Thinkpad T510 (4313-CTO) that I am having trouble with. It is only about a month old. What happens is, when I boot into Windows (including Safe Mode) I get a BSOD at varying stages of the bootup, sometimes I can use the machine for 3 or 4 minutes, and sometimes it just BSOD's at the Windows Loading screen. The fact that it happens at various stages, in normal and safe modes, makes me think that it is a hardware issue. I'm not sure if this series (or any) of Lenovo's machines used the Sandy Bridge lot, but it is possible that it could be the problem. It doesn't bluescreen in Acronis TrueImage that I loaded from the bootable CD.  [IMG]http://i55.tinypic.com/167mf0p.jpg[/IMG](Direct Link: http://tinypic.com/r/167mf0p/7) Any help that anyone can provide is appreciated.

Hi,I have e a problem with the CPU frequency - in DC or in battery it works 1/2 frequency (1196 MHz), but when my thinkpad plugged in and is with battery it works O.K (2400 MHz).Do you have any suggestions how to resolve this problem.Thinkpad T510 (4384) intel core i5, 6 GB Ram.Thank you.Best Regards Nikolay

Solved!

Answer:Thinkpad T510 problem with the CPU frequency

What your seeing is actually normal and a result of power management settings. When on battery, the CPU reduces its clock speed to improve battery life and only increases in speed if a program needs more processing power (games, adobe photoshop, CAD, etc.). If you want, you can disable this feature by setting the "maximum performance" option in the Lenovo power manager program and by going into the bios and disabling "Intel Speedstep" and adjusting similar power options. Hope this helps. -Brian

I'm having a problem with my T510 where the GT30N CD/DVD drive almost always fails to even recognize a DVD or CD that is inserted.  The drive is powered on (I've seen that problem) and I've tried upgrading to the latest firmware for the drive.  I haven't updated the BIOs, but I've read the notes for each version and don't see a reference to any of them fixing optical drive problems.  I've also tried reseating the drive after a "safely remove" and a full shut-down and battery removal.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  I also tried changing the power management settings and one time it worked after I took it off of "max battery" mode, but it stopped working after that. What am I missing other than "I need a replacement optical drive"? Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad T510 can't read discs

Check the firware is updated. It is NOT automatic so download the firmware package and it will check and update valid drives. Other than that and your drivers are working something has failed.

Recently I changed the original HDD to SSD in my ThinkPad T510 and installed the Windows 7 Pro os in Hungarian language. As I don't have the original driver CD, I downloaded all drivers from Lenovo Support home page, including Camera driver, ThinkVantage drivers and Power Managent driver. I installed camera driver too, apparently without error. Camera still missing from Device Manager, Fn + F6 shown only audio settings. Can anybody help me how to get the integrated camera working?

Answer:Thinkpad T510 camera not present

Hi Kcsontos,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I understand that camera is not working in T510.

Please follow the below mentioned steps for the solution.y

Be sure your webcam driver is installed. (It can be found at Click here )

By checking the webcam if it is disabled by Fn+F6. If you see the cross line on the webcam sign press to Fn+F6 to enable the webcam.

If you do not see the webcam sign on the right corner of display after pressing Fn+F6, be sure your Energy Management is installed. (It can be found at click here )

After you download the power Management driver from Lenovo Website, install the software. During Power management installation if you see the window as below ?Utility? must be selected for Fn hot-key application (Utility is a software package under EM)

After installation of Energy Management please perform step 2 to enable Webcam if it is disabled.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

My T510 thinkpad turns itself on automatically sometimes.  Sometimes I wake up the next day and when I open the lid, I find that the screensaver is on.  I always put my computer into hibernate when I close the lid.  I have my laptop almost always plugged into the AC adapter as well.  I've noticed that this has happend 4 or 5 times already.  I've had my laptop for approximately 1 1/2 months now.  I set my windows update to off so I don't think 'that's whats causing the laptop to turn on itself.  Any help would be appreciated.

Is your computer set up to "Allow wake timers"? It's for Windows 7 only. There also may be some kind of wake timers in the BIOS configuration. To check the first, do the following;1. Click the Start button.2. Click "Control Panel"3. Click "System and Security"4. Click "Power Options"5. Click "Change plan settings" for the power plan currently in use.6. Click "Change advanced power settings"7. Expand "Sleep" by clicking the + next to it.8. Expand "Allow wake timers". Are any of these enabled?

Dear Lenovo Community, I would like to ask for some help as my beloved Lenovo Thinkpad T510 died 2-3 days ago. I was trying to boot it up and it seems that it would no longer boot. When I press the "power on" button on the keyboard, I see the LED on for a very short duration and then it goes off. When I remove the keyboard, I can see that the fan starts speeding up and then all of a sudden stops. A few seconds later, the LED goes on for a very short while along with the fan, and then off again. I cannot even get to the initial boot screen. I wonder what would cause it and how to pin the issue down. Any help is very much appreciated. I liked my Lenovo laptop even if I have not always handled it as gently as it would have deserved that! Could it be the motherboard that is faulty, or perhaps the VGA card? The laptop has no beeps, so I cannot assume which part of the self-test fails if it is the self-test at all! Thank you very much in advance, L.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T510 will not boot

Hello.I need urgent help to choose my Thinkpad.I have two possible candidates:- L520 ( i5-2430M / 2.4 to 3 Ghz, Hd 3000 graphics, 1600x900 screen, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd).- T510 ( i5 560M / 2.66 to 3.2 GHz, Hd graphics, 1600 x 900 screen, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd).It is assumed that the T series is better but is older ... Prices are the same.Hard drives are not important. I'll ride an SSD. Also increase to 8gb ram.The problem is the integrated graphics, I think the L520 is a little better in that regard.I need the laptop to be able to work well with Photoshop CS5 and  heavy Raw's. Although this will not be your job every day.The T520 series is too expensive for my budget. It would be possible to mount a graphics card in any of the two? The notebook will never be used to play, but I need it capable to process a decent photos! What I choose? Thank you.

Answer:Help to choose my Thinkpad (L520 vs T510) !

Photoshop processing is done by the CPU, so an integrated graphics card shouldn't be a problem. I think either ThinkPad should meet your needs.

Hello, I have a new Thinkpad T510 4313-CTO with Bluetooth installed, I recently downgraded to Windows XP and I cannot get the bluetooth driver to see the bluetooth adapter, I get the "No Local Bluetooth Device found".    I have tried reinstalling the driver, but no success yet.  Any suggestions.

Answer:Thinkpad T510 not seeing it's bluetooth adapter

Try Fn+F5. That should bring up a screen with soft-keys to turn Bluetooth on or off (it's on the Wireless Radio tab). Once you turn on Bluetooth here your Bluetooth device should immediately appear.
