Fingerprint Reader not working after windows password reset

Question: Fingerprint Reader not working after windows password reset

Hi There I was using windows login (single admin user) and fingerprint reader to login to my Thinkpad T510. Yesterday night I changed windows password and I didn't update finger print. Unfortunately I am not able to login when I tried to login using windows login today, I forgot the password and when I tried finger print reader it is just throwing error. Why finger print is not working after windows password reset? What should I do to login? Help would be appreciated!!

Preferred Solution: Fingerprint Reader not working after windows password reset

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Fingerprint Reader not working after windows password reset

I just called the tech support just now? I just asked the 'why the finger print reader not recognizing the finger print after changing windows password?', and he gave the following answers 1. You should change fingerprint while changing windows password. I don't understand the reason behind it, btw is this true? 2. We can't do anything for this issue.

I setup and have been using the fingerprint reader for several years. A couple of weeks ago I decided I wanted to disable it so I could sign in quicker. I thought I disabled it. When I press the power button the machine comes on and asks me to swipe my finger, when I do I get the green check mark and a login screen comes up with my name embedded as the user but asking for a password. I never setup this function up don't have/know the password. I tried several passwords which I normally use as well as the word password to no avail. Is there a default password on alll machines that I could try? I bought the machine directly from Lonovo, does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

Answer:How do I get the fingerprint reader working on Windows 10

Aug 11. I have been running Windows 10 updates each day since upgrading and today after a reboot the finger print reader started working? and remembered my print as well. I guess Microsoft dropped in a fix for this (which works for me) so maybe something to try?

Hello All,I recently upgraded to Windows 8, and I can't seem to be able to get the fingerprint reader to work. When I try to enroll a finger with the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, it says that:Error Code:         Error MessageE7210005           Cannot enroll user.E7210005           Cannot update passportE7210005           Cannot find fingerprint sensor When I open the Windows Biometric control panel, it says that the fingerprint reader is "Unavailable". I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device in device manager, and I have also tried downloading the latest drivers from http://support.authentec.com/Downloads/Windows/Drivers.aspx#LiveTabsContent38993Neither one of which resolved the issue. When I first installed Windows 8, the fingerprint reader worked as it should, however, I have had my computer repaired since then (for an unrelated issue), and it quit functioning right after the first repair. They have replaced the motherboard and keyboard in my computer. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I downloaded and installed the fingerprint reader software for my T61 (7659-D22) with Windows 7. At the login screen I see the "Scan your finger" option, but none of my fingerprints is recognized, so I log on with my password. In Windows I get the Fingerprint popup inviting me to enroll fingerprints. Three are shown as enrolled already (carry over form WinXP, no doubt), all of which I had tried unsuccessfully at the login screen. I tried enrolling additional fingerprints, but the scans do not register at all. How do I solve this problem?

Model: ThinkPad Edge E420OS:       Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bitProblem: Fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working (Image 1). One major change I think which might have lead to this - I had a recent update from Microsoft on 28/Aug/2014 (Image 2). I'm not sure though that this must be the cause of the problem.Troubleshooting tried: I tried first to repair through "programs and features" but did not work. Then I tried to uninstall and reinstall the FingerPrint reader software (Latest version available on Lenovo Website for my model). Still did not work. I'm pasting photographs of the error. I've tried to follow all the methods shown on various threads on this forum but nothing worked so far....Even the TouchChip (Fingerprint) patch driver for Windows 7 (64-bit)  which is compatible with Windows 8.1 doens't install. (image 3). Device manager shows error for Biometric devices. (image 4). Please help.    Image - 1

Answer:Re: Fingerprint Reader Not Working On Windows 8.1 Pro Startup

For Windows 8.1 you should not be installing any fingerprint software.  You should uninstall ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software.  The driver you need (for TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor) will come from Windows Update.  Then you can enroll fingerprints from the PC Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen.

If there is a problem with the device in Device Manager, try removing it and check the option to delete the driver software.  Then reboot, run Windows Update, and a compatible version for your system should be installed.

Hi Everyone, when i visit device manager it says my Biometric devices are operating correctly.Specs - T410i, windows 7, 64-bit When i click on Biometric devices in control panel, it says "Unavailable" When i try to setup fingerprint reader using the thinkvantage software it says "Cannot enroll User" - error code E7210005. Lenovo support told me to hard reset the computer, i did that... reinstalled drivers, reinstalled software, etc etc. still cant get it to work! Any ideas?

Do you have the TPM enabled and fully initialized in the BIOS?  I think the TPM stores the fingerprint scans, and I don't think the reader can work with it disabled...

My fingerprint reader doesn't seem to work on Windows login anymore (no light on the reader and it doesn't accept any fingerprint) in the past couple of days so have to login using a password. The fingerprint reader works fine in the BIOS and also when I go into the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Reader application i.e. it asks me for a fingerprint. Has this happend to anyone else and has this been caused by a specific MS patch in the last monthly patch cycle? I have reinstalled both the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 64bit (v 8102) and the TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor driver (v 1.6.1.341). I'm running a W530 and fully patched Windows 8.1 Pro

Answer:Fingerprint not working after reset/windows hello

HiThank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j078ca Notebook and a Simplepass not working correctly. You can try this fix that has worked for others. Go to the  Control Panel, Programs, HP SimplePassScroll down to  Enroll Fingerprints.  Click and enroll your finger prints.  Deleted the old fingerprints in SimplePass and enrolled new ones.  If that does not help I would suggest to uninstall the fingerprint driver or reinstall the upgraded version of the driver and as a last resort installed HP SimplePass and reinstalled the latest version for Windows. Here is a download for the Fingerprint scanner for Windows 10. This download sp71729.exe should work for you. Please let me know how this goes.Thanks.

I cannot get the fingerprint reader to work for logging into Windows 8.1 on my brand new T440s.  I have no problem registering my fingers in Fingerprint Manager Pro (v8.01.67 (x64)).  But when I try  to login with the finger print reader, I get any of these messages: A match for the fingerprint was not found in the fingerprint databaseUse a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprintThere was a problem scanning your fingerprint.  Try again...I have installed all updates (BIOS, Fingerprint Manager Pro, ...) via Lenovo System Update. I am just logging into Windows itself, not into a domain or a workgroup. I tried setting up the fingerprint reader via the Windows fingerprint enrollment utility, as suggested in this forum entry , but it made no difference. I haven't tried uninstalling/reinstalling the fingerprint drivers & utility software, since it was just updated via Lenovo System Update.  Should I? So I'm looking for some help.

Answer:Fingerprint reader not working for login on Windows 8.1 on T440s

I can only think of 2 possibilities:

1.  there is something wrong with your fingerprint scanner hardware
2.  (I don't mean to insult you) you're using it wrong

Don't get me wrong, #1 is a very real possibility but for #2 are you enrolling/swiping your finger in a single smooth motion like shown in the video?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HRhJHZJoSg

I can no longer use or enroll finger prints on my T430s laptop running Windows 8.1!ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is 6.0.0.8102.Sensor: TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode). Driver version: 1.6.2.352.  Symptom: when trying to enroll a fingerprint, I get the message: 'Use a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprint,' the sensor light turns from green to blinking orange (3 times), then back to green. Same happens when when trying to enroll from Windows PC Setting/ Sign-in Options/ Fingerprint (Add). What I tried: uninstalling ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software and Driver (to include selecting 'Delete the driver software for this device'), rebooting, using Lenovo System Update to re-install ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, rebooting. Have also tried to manually install previous versions of the Fingerprint Software to no avail.  Note: I had this similar problem in the past, since upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, but the steps above usually resolved it.  Has anybody encountered this issue? Any ideas for a solution? Many thanks!

Try rebooting into BIOS Setup (reboot and press F1 at the Lenovo/ThinkPad logo screen).  Then change to the Security menu, Fingerprint option, and choose the option about "Reset Fingerprint Data".  Then press F10 to save and exit and boot back into Windows.  Then try to enroll your finger again.

Answer:T410 Windows 10: Fingerprint Reader not working on powerup

Windows 10 is not officially supported on your T410, but for any chance of this to work you need to be using ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software version 6.0 (not 5.9.9)

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds036923

After installing this version, you may need to delete all your fingerprints and enroll them again.

Windows update caused this problem on 22-12-2008 and I noticed this error last week.

Problem with Video Driver :
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Video Driver - 7.15.11.5682
This is the video driver version for my HP tablet(HP Website). But windows update installed the latest version(7.15.11.7770) from NVIDIA. From that time onwards, my touch screen stopped working.
I contacted HP care and they advised me to follow these steps.
1) Uninstall the latest driver and install the 7.15.11.5682 driver by giving the video driver (devicemanager ->display adapter -> Nvidia 6150 -> uninstall)
2) Bios Flash (they provided the software)
3) Calibrate
I am done with the first two steps but still my touch screen is not recognizing the pen. So I couldn't calibrate.
When I contacted the HP care again, they are telling it may be because of hardware failure. My notebook is working perfectly except this touchscreen problem.

Again they asked me to do the driver installation in safe mode.
(Add/Remove Programs -> Remove only display adapter)
Driver installed successfully but in device manager it is showing the latest version.
I tried two times, but couldn't help. I can't install the older driver. pls help.

Hi
Have seen several posts but no solutions. After a windows 10 update a couple of months ago, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. It recognises me but then says "your credentials could not be confirmed".
Microsoft have sent endless messages blaming the driver, the scanner etc etc. Finally they say it is an issue with the update, but they have not solution at this time. Good old Microsoft and their helpful updates, which you cannot avoid.
Anyone have the same problem and how did you fix it??
Thanks

My wife was interested in using the Protector Suite fingerprint reader that came on her Toshiba Satellite M105-S3084.
She tried to enroll, but it looks like someone already enrolled, and it needs the original enrollee's fingerprint or password.

I extracted a confession from my teenage daughter, but it does not recognize her fingerprint and she can not recall the password.
She is thinking one of her friends were playing with it (this would have been a year ago).

Any way we can reset everything, so that my wife can start fresh?

Thanks in advance.

I used to use VISTA and I registed forefinger's finger print until yesterday .I deleted all partition then installed Windows 7 and installed all drivers. I could successsfully register middle finger but I was not able to regisger forefinger anymore.

Some other reason, I created new windows profile and deleted old windows profile. After this, I could not register not only forefinger but also middle finger as well. I guess these finger print data stored outside of windows user profile but I cannot find where it is. How could I delete registerd information?

Hello. . .
I use the fingerprint reader to login to my Latitude E5550 every time.  However, I was unable to do so after the latest Windows 10 update (version 1607).

It did still show in the Windows Device Manager (i.e., no "Unknown Device" listed)
I went into the DDP Console to try to register a new fingerprint (for troubleshooting), but it wasn't reading the swipes
I attempted to update to the latest firmware/drivers, but that only caused unknown devices to show up in the Device Manager (ControlVault Firmware v3.3.15.0 and ControlVault Drivers v3.3.14.68)
Switched back to the older driver (v3.0.48.26) and all devices were once again recognized

Any suggestions for how to get around this?  It's not the end of the world, but I *really* like using the fingerprint reader (I paid extra for) to login.  If I can provide additional helpful information, please let me know.
Thanks!

I just purchased a modest Toshiba laptop to replace my five year old HP laptop. Being new to W10, I am not impressed with and do not trust the use of a PIN rather than a sophisticated password.

The USB reader I bought for the Toshiba is an Eikon using Authentec driver. I dislike the apparent limitation of Windows Hello to only associate the fingerprint reader with the PIN. But my real issue is that this prevents my using the FP reader to also open my password program.

On my HP laptop, I have this capability with SimplePass. I actually attempted to install HP's SimplePass on the Toshiba, but it would not install.

Unless I'm overlooking a way to do this with W10, I'm looking for a utility that will store password(s) for use by the FP reader both for logon and accessing, at the minimum, my password program.

I do not wish to change the password for my password program to the Hello PIN just to achieve the dual function.

Any enlightenment and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

Hello all and thanks in advance,

I have lost my admin password - i have a vaio laptop with the fingerprint reader (that works fine)

When I got the computer I entered and admin password (no other users, just me) and recorded said password in outlook on my BlackBerry contacts.

I never actually had to use it because I have the fingerprint reader.

Anyway, I tred enterting the password today and got a fail (just wanted to see if it works) - I either recorded it wrong in my BB (unlikley but oh well) or something has happened..

In any case - I have searched and found the password reset tutorial on this page which I will attempt, but I wonder if there is anything easier that I can do since I can actually get into the computer via thefingerprint reader? I think the tutorial is written for people who cannot get in at all.

Hope this is in the right place.

Regards,

Answer:Lost Password - have fingerprint reader

You have to know your current password to change it in the User Accounts screen, so even though you can access the system using the fingerprint reader, your stuck.

After you reset your password, create a Password Reset Disk
How to create a Windows 7 Password Reset Disk
That disk will save you from going through this again if you forget the new password.

Hy,It's my first post here. I got a LENOVO t500 at work to use and I wanted to try to use finger print auth to log in. Its in a domain, but I got local administrator privileges on it. The machine runs 64bit Windows 8.1 Pro.The fingerprint reader driver was missing in the first place (windows identified it as a fingerprint sensor but had no driver). The sensor is an AuthenTec Inc, AES2810. I've tried to install the lenovo driver:http://support.lenovo.com/en/downloads/ds034486But received the error message in the subject about I need to enable the biometric framework.I've also seenhttp://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Windows-8-1-fingerprint-reader/m-p/124...and downloaded-installed an authentec driver successfully, so now device manager shows it and identifies it as it should.. Well I've went to the group policies as it was suggeseted everywhere on the net and turned on the options.I've also checked and found a windows services that had biometrics in it : I've set it to auto-start and started it right away. But even after all of this the fingerprint option is missing in the accounts sign in page in pc settings.I've restarted the machine multiple times (with the real restart )Could you please give me a hint?I've spent a whole day looking for this yesterday.. Have a nice day & Regards,Steve

This system belongs to the company. the staff it was assinged to is leaving and now we find it difficult to transfer the computer to another user because we could not change the fingerprint password of the old user to that of the new user. The question is, how do we go about changing the fingerprint security to that of the new user? Thanks.

I recently upgraded the Password Manager from 4.0 to 4.5 and noticed a slight improvement in the responsiveness of Password Manager to browser user credential prompts [FireFox & IE].However, now the green indicator light of the fingerprint reader does not come on when the fingerprint prompt appears on the screen.I tried to disable and re-enable the setting in the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software [version 5.9.9.7282] but that did not bring back the indicator. The only time the indicator light works is when the password is correct/incorrect.I like the responsiveness of the Password Manager 4.5 but would like the indicator light function of ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software [version 5.9.9.7282] to be restored. Can this be fixed?

I have a user with a T500.  She had been using the laptop with no problem.  She would finger scan in at power-up and then scan again for the OS.  However, it has started doing something odd.She scans her finger when it boots up.  It then displays a hard disk icon and wants the power-on password.  I cleared out all fingerprint settings in the OS and BIOS, but the problem continued. She could scan in to XP with noproblem.I re-set the fingerprint software back into Windows XP.  I this first without the BIOS option.  It worked fine. So, I re-enabled the BIOS sign-on from within the XP utility.  It went right back to do the same thing.  Thank you for any assistance.

I'd like to have the computer only boot with an authorized fingerprint.  Only way I seem to be able to trigger the fingerprint requirement is by adding a password in the bios at POST.  Problem is, this requires a fingerprint, then I have to type the password.  Is there any way to have fingerprint authorization at POST, without the typing?

Answer:T430s - Using Fingerprint reader at POST without a bios password?

so you mean that you want to disable the power on/off button, and have the fingerprint swipe as the only method of starting the laptop?

If I get the Lenovo Fingerprint Reader Keyboard for when I have my T500 in the minidock with an external monitor, will the password manager be able to switch seamlessly between the two fingerprint readers? One reason for asking is that I see the T500 fingerprint reader has a different manufacturer and thus different software drivers than earlier Thinkpads and so will probably also be different from the reader in the external keyboard, which shipped in 2005. I am trying to reduce the hazzle of password manager prompting me when docked and not having access to the thinkpad fingerprint reader, so what I don't need is new password manager problems when switching to an external fingerprint reader.

Hello. I am a very basic user and on my 2006 (yes, that old) X60s ThinkPad i do not remember my user logon password. Answer:How to change login user password after logging in with fingerprint reader?

rgarland, welcome to the forum,

good question, that also creates a problem.  Discussing how to get around security measures, including fingerprints and passwords is actually against the forum rules.

Hopefully this isn't breaking the forum rules;

Assuming your user account has Admin rights it should be possible to log in using your finger print, which I presume according to your post is the case. When you then go into Users in Control Panel hopefully you have the possibility to reset the password for your user account and enter a new password without having to enter the old one.

Now you have the problem that the fingerprint is associated with the original password now different to the one you have just set which means your fingerprint wont work if you log out and want to log in again.  You will need to go to fingerprint software and delete your passport and then recreate it.

In theory this should work, but I've never been in a position to try it as I've never forgotten a password, or finger come to that

Hi everybody, my name is Giovanni, and I live in Italy. This is my first lenovo, but I've been using my father's thinkpads since their birth. So, I tried to use my fingerprint module, but when I try to start "Lenovo Fingerprint Software" or "Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software" I get an error depending on which of those two software I use.Lenovo Fingerprint Software says: Fingerprint sensor not initialized by the application. Access denied.ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software says: Cannot find fingerprint sensor. Error code E7210005. Second question: which is the difference between those two software? Should I remove one of them? I am using windows vista (soon will upgrade to windows7). Thankyou in advance!

Answer:Fingerprint reader not working

Hi, I hada similar problem, I was using "Lenovo Fingerprint Software", after a Windows update it stopped working with an error saying the software "cannot communicat?e with fingeprint sensor". I searched the forums but could not a solution. During my search I found there are two pieces of software - "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" and "Lenovo Fingerprint Software". I had already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the  "Lenovo Fingerprint Software", without success. So uninstaled the fingerprint software, went in the BIOS under Security/Fingerprint and "Reset Internal Fingerprint data". Next I downloaded the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" and installed it. All working ok now, it actually seems to recognise my fingerprints quicker. The only thing now is that "ThinkVantage System Update" keeps promting me to install an update "Lenovo Fingerprint Software Version: 3.3.2.27", the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" is Version: 5.9.5 Build: 7038. I have hidden (Do not show this update option) because I am happy with the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software". It would be interesting to know why there are two versions of this software and what is the difference between "ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" and "Lenovo Fingerprint Software".

I have a T400 (2764-CTO) with a fingerprint reader. A few times since I got it (less than a month), I have gotten into a state where the system is requesting a fingerprint swipe and then repeatedly says my finger print was too short and asks again. I'm not even putting my finger over the reader when it is telling me this. It even happened once when the lid was closed and I was connected to the docking station. I can't even login with my password because the fingerprint software keeps flashing up the too short message. Is there an adjustment I can make??? My fingerprint software in Lenovo Fingerprint 2.0 version 3.1.25.80. Jim

I have a ThinkPad T42 laptop with the fingerprint reader. I running version 5.6.2 of the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software. How do I "turn on" the fingerprint reading function? When I boot the computer, it asks me to swipe my finger for the Window's logon. But at no other time am I given the option to use my fingerprint scanner (such as trying to sign into my Amazon.com account). Is there a Ctrl or Fn key that I need to use? I have obviously enrolled my fingers correctly, since I can swipe my finger for the Windows logon.  Thanks.

Hello, My notebook is an HP DV7T-6000 CTO Entertainment Notebook that I have upgraded to Windows 10 64 Bit.  The original operating system was Windows 7 Home and the fingerprint reader worked at that time.  After I upgraded to Win. 10 it had stopped working.  I tried to look for a solution but didn't have any luck.  I made an image of my notebook, about 6 months ago and saved it for a later time.  Some time after making the image, I found a way to make my fingerprint reader work again, but didn't save the instructions or the downloads for it.  I know, I'm beating my head against the wall.  Because of suspecious notebook behavior, I reloaded the image I saved and now I can't seem to find a way to make my fingerprint reader work again.  I do remember that it was an updated driver for my laptop that made the fingerprint scanner work again, but I don't remember what the updated version was.  If any of you could help, I will be truly greatfull.  Maybe, at some point, I can stop banging my head against the wall.   Thank you!

Hi guys, this is my first post here.I just bought an HP ENVY a week ago, and everything was working fine till I updated the fingerprint reader and now it isn't working anymore. I can't set up the login by Windows Hello, it always says that I'm not scanning properly and flashes with a red light, but the thing that worries me the most is that the light on the sensor turns on and off even when it's not supposed to. For example: I open a new tab on Chrome and it goes on and off for like two minutes. Yesterday it went on and off all the time. This obviously this drains out my battery, so I wonder what could I do to solve this. The problems started when I updated it. Thank you for your attention.

This week I wanted to start using it,  however I am unable to do so. It does not show up in my device listing (lsusb). I tried to enable the device in the BIOS and reset it and here I came across the following problem:"No fingerprint reader is attached" (continue) It seems to provide a good reason for not finding the device using lsusb. So what is wrong with my laptop? What else can I try? Please note that I am working on Linux and have no Win8 installed at this moment.

My Lenovo T440s laptop has a fingerprint reader, and I used it to log in to my computer. However, it suddenly stopped working. According to it, it can't get an image of enrolled fingerprint image. Not only that, when I try to log in after turning on my computer, it doesn't let me use other ways to sign in either, like password or PIN. When I press it, 2 seconds later it just switches back to fingerprint method. I have trouble signing into the computer. How should I fix this?

Hello all, I just got a L440 to replace my aging X200T. I bought this one for several reasons, one of which was the fingerprint reader. It came with Win8 but I downgraded to a WIN7 Ultimate and installed almost all the drivers on the website. My problem is that after going into the BIOS and setting security to require power-on and HD passwords, I see no way to select the option to use the figerprint reader as an option during power up instead of a password, like on my X200T. I have the fingerprint reader working fine for Windows logon, and in the Device Manager I see it is functioning properly, but I found no way to get it to come up when the computer boots. I have searched the forum and found someone with an L540 who was trying to do the same. A moderator showed a screen shot from the Fingerprint Reader Software, with a Setting page where you set this. In fact it looks similar to my X200T. But when I click on the Fingerprint Utility on my L440, all I can do is register the fingerprints - there is no option screen and it looks totally different from what he shows: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Can-t-start-ThinkPad-from-fingerprint-reader/... I have gone to both the L440 and L540 download page and all I see is a single program to download - the Lenovo Fingerprint Manager version 4.5.266.0, which is what I have installed. Does anyone know how to get the software that has this option to check? Did I miss another software package ... Read more

Look in the lenovo folders on you C:\ drive for a folder called LPRA, the setup.exe in here will install OmniPass again if you uninstall it. BTY the OmniPass version that Lenovo seems to be shipping is very outdated and causes headaches with Windows Updates (it will create two logon accounts with certain updates more info here: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_passwords/msg/... ) Lenovo ship version 5.00.18 which has been replaced with 5.00.75 which fixes all these bugs. I believe it is time for Lenovo to UPDATE THEIR VERSION to 5.00.75 and stick it on the ThinkVantage updater!Message Edited by ljbade on 02-15-2008 09:11 AM

My fingerprint reader has stopped working again. It started working after the last Windows 10 update, but after some time it just stopped working. I got a message saying to "swipe my finger slowly". Other times it said to "swipe finger more to the left" But no matter how many times I tried the reader just did not recognized my fingerprint. Now the reader's light is not even visible when I swipe my finger. I have not updated Windows again since I'm waiting for the latest update of Windows Creator to be available for my laptop.  All the other available updates for my laptop were supposedly installed on 4-17-17 Any help? Thank you.

ThinkPad T440p. Win 10 Pro 1703, OS Build 15063.632, Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017) Driver 4.5.514.0 dated 5/23/2017. Since the last update having difficulties signing in from a cold start. Takes 4 or 5 swipes to log on. Resuming from sleep the reader doesn't work at all. Tried to update and/or add a fingerprint. When I use the finger I usually use it recognizes the print and says that it is already registered. When I try to add a fingerprint the app reports it is having trouble recognizing the input. Result is I have to enter password to resume from sleep.Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hello,I have a brand new T540P with a Validity fingerprint reader.  Rougly 80% of the time, the Fingerprint reader is unresponsive at the windows login screen after waking the computer from sleep. It works 100% of the time when booting from an off position, however. Once logged in, it also works 100% of the time. The issue only arises when logging into windows. Things I have tried-uninstalling/installing device in device manager and finger print manager pro software-setting fingerprints through both fingerprint manager pro software (lenovo) OR through the built in windows fingerprint control panel options-disabling "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" in device manager. I should note as well that I have another T540P that I ordered as a replacement. Both models experience the same issue. Is this a platform wide issue affecting all T540P models? This is frusterating.

Haven't heard about this issue before. If it stops working after resume, does putting it back into sleep then resuming again make it work?

Does anyone else have the problem of the fingerprint reader not working after hibernate? This is an intermittent problem, doesn't happen all the time, but frequently. Come out of hibernation, it is blinking, swipe my finger, nothing happens, blinking stops and the reader doesn't work after that. I have to enter my Windows password and it doesn't work for any websites. Have to reboot to re-engage the reader. I'm on Win 7 Home Prem 64 bit with latest drivers for the fingerprint reader and lastest update for Authentec software.

Answer:Fingerprint reader not working after hibernate

So here's the solution(s) as found by Pokey and me: Option 1:  Computer, Properties, Device Manager, Biometric Devices, Validity Sensors, Properties, and the Power Management tab, Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." Option 2:  Try disabling and enabling the "Credential Manager" service by going into Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, Credentials Manager.  Even though the Credentials Manager status is ?Started,? stop the Credentials Manager service and restart it. Find more information here:  https://support.authentec.com/Forum/tabid/318/forumid/49/threadid/600/scope/posts/Default.aspx Option 3:  Do both.

I have an X1 carbon just purchased in January of 2016.  it came with Windows 10 and and all off the updates from Lenovo and Windows have been downloaded and installed.  the device manager says the fingerprint scanner driver is up to date. The fingerprint reader no longer works.  I receive messages such as " try using a longer stroke" or "move your finger to the right".  It worked in the beginning, then it would take several strokes before it registerd and now it does not work at all.  I have tried to register a new print with Windows and after about 20 trys it tells me the finger is already registered.  Then I tried a different finger and I just keep getting the messages refered to above.  How can I fix this?

Answer:fingerprint reader stopped working

Try clearing the fingerprint sensor from BIOS Setup:

1.  Reboot
2.  Press F1 to enter BIOS Setup
3.  Change to the Security page, and then select the Fingerprint item
4.  Choose the option to Reset Fingerprint Data, and then wait for it to finish
5.  Press F10 to save/exit and reboot to Windows 10
6.  Delete your fingerprints and try enrolling again, from the Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen

Hi dinomon, Welcome to SF,

Have you install proper drivers for your Finger Print Reader device. If not go to their website. Download the Lastest drives for Windows 7 then install it. See whether it works or not.

P.S. Please fill the System spec so we know what are we dealing with.

Hope this helps,
Captain

Hi all, I have a T400, just a couple weeks old.  It have Windows XP Pro installed and for the last couple weeks, the fingerprint reader worked great.  Then it just stopped working.  I got all the most up to date drivers I could find installed.  When I login, the finger print icon comes up, says Please wait for a minute, then goes to Fingerprint system not available.  When I go into the Lenovo Fingerprint Software, in the Select a finger to enroll screen, it says at the bottom Power-on fingerprint security contains N/A free slots.  If I go into Settings, it will say Get power-on policy failed! Any suggestions on how to get this working again??   Thanks, Dan

Hi all,
These two pieces of hardware have been working intermittently for the past several months but now have failed completely. Device manager recognizes them as on and working properly but neither of them detect anything, which makes me suspect a ribbon cable or something similar. Any leads on what could be causing this, or quick hardware possibilities to check? Thanks!

Answer:Touchpad and fingerprint reader not working

There is a ribbon cable connecting them to the motherboard but usually to reach it you have to first remove the keyboard and maybe the palmrest to see where it plugs in.

*I would like to UPDATE ALL of the devices in DEVICE MANAGER (instead of only certain things being upgraded) because I keep finding certain items in device manager NOT being updated from the internet AND what's already on my computer (that I didn't know was there this whole time)
*My fingerprint reader/sensor NO LONGER works. There is no light indicating it even works at all. This happened AFTER upgrading to windows 10.

I believe it drains too much battery power during sleep/hibernation/full shutdown. I turned it off in BIOS (1.09), set stop using it, and removed fingerprint data in Win 7 and Lenovo's fingerprint management. Surprising, the light is still on after complete shutdown or in sleep mode. Gosh!

this was working initially but was a little inconsistent.  now it doesn't work at all.  Vista Biz is installed and I've installed all the pertinent patches, bios updates, etc.  i even uninstalled/reinstalled the fingerprint software, and updated the Touchpoint driver from UPEK. any other ideas?  this is/was a neat feature. Thanks

Answer:x61T fingerprint reader not working now........

I have the same new problem - Just got the tablet about a week ago, installed updates per update center and now the fingerprint reader doesn't work. In the device center, it says that it is functioning, but if I go to the fingerprint section of control panel, it does nothing when I try to use the test fingerprint option. Occasionally, it will show a fingerprint one time, but if I try again, no luck. It never recognizes that I am trying to use a fingerprint to logon on or any other time.

Since the 9/29/2010 Microsoft security upgrades, my fingerprint reader is not working.  Have updated the Thinkvantage fingerprint reader software, driver, and rolled back to pre microsoft upgrade configuration w/o success.  If I disable the fingerprint reader, it is re-installed when I re-boot.  Suggestions?  UPEK driver is version 1.4.0.253,  6/23/2010 by UPEK.

Answer:Thinkpad x60 fingerprint reader not working

Same thing happened to me. Fingerprint reader no longer works as of 30 Sept 2010. Removing and reinstalling ThinkVantage fingerprint software (latest build) did not help. I have Lenovo X60s ThinkPad running Windows 7. Same driver as previous poster (UPEK driver is version 1.4.0.253). ??

I had various user names and passwords registered on numerous websites.
From IE7, I could use the fingerprint reader to input the user name and passwords to these sites.

Since Windows update installed IE8, the fingerprint system does not work within internet explorer - it works as normal for all other programs and logon.

I figured out it must be a security thing in IE8, but cannot work out how to re-enable the fingerprint software into IE8.

Answer:Re: Tecra A10 Fingerprint reader not working with IE 8

Hi

This issue has been posted sever times here in the forum and it related to the compatibility issue between the old Fingerprint Truesuite access manager and IE8 and Firefox 3
As far as I know the newer Truesuite access manager software v3.0 or higher should solve this issue.
But we have to wait until such update will be published!

Cheers

I've been using this fingerprint reader for 1.5yrs now. Lately when I turn on my computer, sometimes it's working and sometimes it has a red "x" over the icon in my startup menu in bottom righthand corner. I had to reboot 3x this morning before I could get it to work. It worked for a while and now nothing. There is no red x showing, but it's not scanning at all.

I went to HP site and downloaded lastest version of the reader, rebooted and still nothing. Any ideas?

I use Vista Ultimate op sys. My computer is HP HDX18t, 64 bit. (I installed Vista, 64bit version update from HP site.)

Thanks for your help!
