Question: Trackpad keys freezing touchpad

If I press any of the trackpad keys the cursor is unresponsive for ~2 seconds. The problems occurs a while after booting. If I restart the machine it doesn't happen. What should I do?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Trackpad keys freezing touchpad

I noticed exactly the same behaviour after upgrading the driver to version 15.3.2.0. Also when i use the trackpoint, the touchpad freezes 2 seconds..... Somehow the UltraNav driver always seems to give some kind of problems... :-( With the buttons it only happens with the red lined buttons above the touchpad. Not with the two buttons below it. --jan

I purchased a Lenovo E520 with an extended 2 year warranty. Upon arrival the trackpad did not work - which is a problem Lenovo is fully aware of. After 3 months of Lenovo support havin me try various fixes - it still does not work. Support said it was hardware, and becasue it was beyond 90 days i could not get a refund. Theyy also said it would take 3 to 5 weeks for the repair and that was gauranteed. I cannot afford to be without a computer for that long - so I disconnected the trackpad and used a mouse for the past 1 1/2 years. Now the "g" key keeps malfunctioning. I found out that this is also a known problem. Lenovo Support - please contact me to resolve this situation.

Answer:Trackpad AND Keys Problem

seestone,

I'm not sure why you were advised 3-5 weeks to repair a problem like this.  Keyboard and touchpad should be easily replaced.   I'll try to help you - can you send me a private message with your contact information - name, shipping address, phone, and the model type and serial number of your particular E520.

Thanks!

Hi all, I just recieved my y500 and so far nothing major issues - working great love the computer however I was just wondering for the trackpad does it allow people to press down alot? into the casing itself? It feels like it will pop out the trackpad and leave me with a hole in the laptop anyone else experience it? Jason

Answer:Y500 Trackpad left and right keys

HiI personaly didn't use the y500 once but I had checked z500 once in a showroom. The z500 touchpad was soft too but I didn't apply much force on it thinking the same as you. So I asked one of the shop executive and he told it's okay but I didnt believe it. But I think the only thing you should care of is not applying much force on it. Could be true.Regards

I have a Lenovo x220tablet, alltough it took some time to adjust. But now i'm happy with it. But there's something wrong with the trackpad. I allready taught myself to use it without the pysical buttons in the bottom, and now make fully use of al that synaptics has to offer. But sometimes I have to use the buttons, because it comes handy when dragging something or whatever. At first, I did not like the buttons, but the where usable, but with time, they got worse. It is very hard to explain this for me in English, but, thats why I made a little movie which is linked below. Anyone suggestions what to do about it?Of course I've used google, and found many many topics about the trackpad, but that were mostly driver problems. http://youtu.be/a4XyxWopbt8 The click is so loud, it seems to get stuck somewhere and I have to push very hard. Almost like there's something stuck, like sand between it. But it's perfectly clean.Any advise (besides; do not use it) is welcome. And apologies for my English

Answer:X220t trackpad/touchpad

Hi, timpel_800

From the looks, sounds, and general functionality of the TrackPad, I would guess that there is a hardware issue of sorts. In the video, you say that the click function works, but only if you do it twice, correct? And the noise was far louder than a TrackPad is supposed to be, I think. With all this in mind, I would contact support and see if you can get this repaired. The number for support in the Netherlands is +31 (0)20 513 3939 and is open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.

Best of luck,
Adam

I dunno if it's a touchpad or a trackpad I have but there was a program along with it called like Apoint or something that would run and allowed me to change the settings on the touchpad. I have looked and can find no other way of accessing the touchpad settings. Well the last time I remember it working was before I updated Windows Vista, well now the program no longer runs I had it set to disable the touchpad when an external mouse was detected and it no longer does that. I went into its folder located at C:\Program Files\DellTpad\Apoint.exe and double clicked it and nothing happened. It use to run at startup but no longer does and I checked and it is still set to run at startup but does not, any clues as to what is going on? I believe I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.
I managed to fix it by going to Device Manager in the control panel uninstalling Dell Touchpad and rebooting.

Today my x201 has lost all trackpad and touch pad function.   Hard disk constantly running.   No restore points listed to help remove the problem.   Everything works okay in Safe Mode.   Rebooting several times has not helped. Could this be related to the Microsoft Bad KB.......69 update? I have not installed any new software recently. I can only use the pen to access menus.    How can I remove recent KB installations using just the pen? Hope someone can help me soon Update:   I have managed to remove the bad MS update but to improvement.   Next I added a new user (also set as administrator) and the trackpad and touch pad function is now working normally but only with the new user account. Would someone tell me if I can remove my own Administrator Account and what effect this will have,  i.e. what data might I lose?   Can I save data and reinstall it to a new account?

Answer:Trackpad and touchpad not working

Hi Beemer,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that trackpad and touchpad is not working properly in your Lenovo ThinkPad X201.

Since the devices work fine in safe mode, probably a corrupted driver is causing the issue. Go to control panel -> Device manager, uninstall the drivers listed under Mice and other pointing devices. Restart the system and let Windows install the generic drivers for the device. Check if the trackpad and touchpad works fine now. Later, you may download the drivers from Lenovo Support page and install them. If you have any difficulties in finding the driver, please share the MTM number of your device.

Click here to understand how to transfer files and settings from one user account to another with administrator rights.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hello all Since 2 days my touchpad (inclusive the buttons) and my trackpad aren't workinig anymore. They are enabled and in the device manager under "mice and other pointers", there is no touchpad to be found. Do you have any idea what could have caused this problem? Thank you very much!

Hi 1) I just bought the Y580 online. The trackpad is terrible. - How do I make the right-side and bottom touch scrolling to work ? just like a normal laptop ?? - I changed the sensitivity settings and inspite of that the motion of the cursor is not uniform. When the right side of my finger is contact with it, the cursor stops moving a little and it is okay with the center of my finger.Do any of you experience this? If not, I need to get this looked into. I don't think the problem is with the software, it's just the material with which the trackpad is made, does not have a right coefficient of friction. - The two finger scrolling does not start. When I do the two finger scroll, the cursor change is seen almost 10 seconds later and even after that, it is almost impossible to scroll through my pages. Is that the case for everyone?  - The left/right click on the trackpad is noisy 2) Made the mistake a buying a lower resolution screen. How do I return this thing? When I talked to sales they are asking for a 15% "restocking" fee. That is terrible as well. I never should have gone with Lenovo.

Answer:Y580 Trackpad (or Touchpad) Help

- Not sure if there is a right side and bottom touch scrolling, will test it tonight- not uniform? Means if you place your finger on the right side of the touchpad then move to the center compared to the center move to the left, the distance is different?- 2 finger scrolling not tested, will check it tonight- I am not sure how to help you with the touchpad being noisy when clicking. Do note that this is a 1 piece touchpad compared to the conventional touchpad with 2 buttons below which is different. Use double tap on touchpad to do a left click but right click is unavoidable. - low res screen... can check with sales if you can top-up for upgrade?hope this helps.

Hello everyone,  I am having to send my Lenovo ThinkPad P50 to the service depot to have the touchpad and perhaps more replaced due to the trackpad not performing properly. The right click works intermittently both on the bottom and top right click button. The scroll feature at times stops working and the left click usually starts performing right click operations randomly. I knew it wasn't the driver after uninstalling and reinstalling it a few times including the keyboard driver. Has anyone here ever had to have their touchpad replaced?

Answer:Replacing Touchpad/Trackpad

Hi RegEdit1 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As the touchpad and buttons may have erratic behavior but not when using a USB mouse, then best that you have your warranty coverage work for you as the entire upper case that includes the touchpad mechanism to be checked.

Reviewing the hardware disassembly guide would take several screws needed to be worked at for the repair.
Sending it over could be a good option in terms of hardware issue for full functionality check.

Hello all,

I'm having a bit of trouble with the search feature but so far haven't found any info. I figure to post while I keep looking.
So, I just received my CB 13 and it's a beautiful machine. But when I play audio, at or above 50%, the keys resonate noticeably. The higher the volume goes, the worse it gets. To me, that's totally unacceptable. I used a tone generator to help me pinpoint it and it appears to come from the keys. If I put my hands over the keyboard, it goes away completely. Remove my hand, and it resonates a lot again.
Has anyone experienced this issue with the CB 13?
Also, the trackpad seems a little finicky. I had trouble click and dragging - it would go all over the place.
How does Dell handle exchanges btw? I hope this isn't a common issue across all CB 13s :(

I've been using this L412, #4403,  for a few years, and quite satisfied with it.Sorry for the long post, I believe the chain of events are relevant to the issue. A few days ago the fan died. I cleaned the laptop less than half a year ago so probably not dust issue. I dual-boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint Qiana and it wouldn't work on either of them, so probably not OS issue. BIOS doesn't have any fan info.Replaced it with a new fan, correct model, everything according to the manual and proper CPU fan replacement practices. After assembly everything was working as usual. Next day everything was working as usual. On its second day the fan didn't turn on when I turned the laptop on. At the same time, trackpad and trackpoint stopped working, volume control doesn't work, and the special Fn keys don't work. The F1-F12 keys work. Insert, Delete, Home, End keys work. The Fn+Insert does a Screenshot as it should, but none of the other Fn special keys work. All that happened at once, from the moment I booted up the laptop. I checked the two OSs again. None of the above work on either of them. Doesn't work during boot-up sequence.Found a way on Linux Mint to turn on the fan to full-power, but it's like that only after the OS reaches the desktop. Auto mode makes it turn 0 RPM, full-power makes it turn at about 435 RPM (very stable). I assume it's not an OS issue because it stopped on both of them at the same time, and it doesn't work during boot-up sequence even though... The Trackpad on this laptop is become really unusable. The cursor is jumping around when you lift your finger from the trackpad. I am finding it very difficult to use Photoshop and cannot do anything precise which is ironic as this is a precision touchpad. There is nothing precision about it.
Please Dell fix this. For me this is the only thing holding back the best Ultrabook ever made.

I just got this laptop today and immediately noticed the same exact thing.  It's driving me nuts and really creating problems navigating.  I am really hoping this can be fixed with a software update and it's not hardware related.  I'm also wondering if this is just a flaw on certain units or all of them act like this.

Hi Lenovo & all, I use the trackpoint most of the time, but recently after updating the drivers for a number of times from Lenovo update manager I found out that the touchpad on my T60 is not working right. Symptom is that whenever my T60 is tilted forward or backward (i.e. not sitting horizontally flat), then there will be great difficult trying to control the pointer with the touchpad (not responding, etc). Did somebody encounter similar problem?

Answer:Weird Touchpad / TrackPad problem on T60

I found that the problem can be due to the palm rest region being pressed down my my palm:If I press the palm region up on the edge (as it flex a little bit when I use force), then the touchpad works fine even when the laptop is tilted. However, when I stop pressing up on the edge, especially after I have put my palms onto the palm rest to type again, then the touchpad stop behaving normally again It is a design fault of T60, or is it just my T60? Can I have it fixed?

Scrolling in chrome is giving me a headache.  And I can't for the life of me find the touchpad settings for my new Yoga 910.  I searched both the control panel and metro settings with no luck.  I even went into the device manager and no touchpad to be found.  Usually there's a tab in the mouse properties but for some odd reason it doesn't exist on this computer.  Any direction would be much appreciated.

Dell,
Touchpad  replacing  Trackpad  in Laptops

Users of the laptops are feeling difficult to use the touchscreen facility in the recent laptops, because the screen is perpendicular to the hand and fingers. In most of the laptops, the trackpad and the area left and right of it are vacant.  This area can be used as touchpad replacing trackpad,  as shown in the following figures.  This new touchpad is parallel to the hand and so easy to write, scribble, select, swipe and do digital signatures.

The touchpad can be enabled to function as trackpad using special key combination(s).  Many app and program icons can be displayed on this touchpad similar to those in tablets and smartphones.
Additional modifications can be included in this idea to make this feature very useful in laptops, desktops, All in one computers.
Reference:
The Touch Bar on MacBook Pro.
This Touch Bar on MacBook Pro is very small, difficult to view and difficult to reach by fingers for digital signatures and other actions as mentioned in the following weblink.

Hey guys, I'm having problems with the touchpad buttons: the system can't distinguish a left click from a right click. Whenever I click one of the two buttons the system reads it as if I'm clicking on both and keep pressing. I tried also to disable them and use the trackpad but also those buttons are not working well. They just work for a couple of minutes and then they stop. However if I run the Thinkvantage suite they seem to work fine and the system reads the click properly. What do you think is wrong? Thanks

Answer:Touchpad and Trackpad Buttons not Working

Today I noticed both my touchpad and joystick stopped working.  I could move the cursor but the clicks would not register.  I restarted and it worked again.  I recall a couple of days ago I updated the drivers, one of them I think was for the touchpad.

Guys I see hundreds of posts on this old and aggravating topic with totally guesswork "answers" from Microsoft, help forums, including this one. There has to be an answer, right?

BTW this seems common on all types of laptops irrespective of make. I have tried this with both the vendor [lenovo] driver and with standard MS provided "mouse" driver. No diff in this regard though the packages are very different [lenovo very complex]
Also, this is a new phenomenon on this particular unit. In the past, no issues. Windows power-plan update?

as title says. Use laptop. Leave laptop [plugged in or not does not matter]. Return to use laptop after hours. Laptop awakes by normal means but no touchpad/trackpad etc function. Logoff, logon, still no touchpad cursor movement [frozen in centered position].

There is no Power Plan setting for "mouse" or touchpad or trackpad.
There is no Advanced Tab in Device Manager for same
There is no sleep/power/etc settings anywhere in Device Manager for same
There is no Windows error related to the problem
Full reboot required to gain coherency

Something in Power Mgmt, I guess, is offing the touchpad but the parameter is not obvious.

Someone somewhere knows this answer, right??

Answer:Touchpad Trackpad inoperable after sleep

Other then the button to disable the trackpad being somehow accidentally pushed, A lot of the times this problem is reported, And I keep going through all the options. If you have done all the fixes, the problem is most likely with the touchpad itself on the laptop. It is usually a hardware issue. I would call the laptop company and go through their troubleshooting steps (even though forums usually cover all those angles well). But it is usually hardware if all the fixes that are suggested are applied.

Hi all,  Having puchased a X1 Carbon few days ago, I realised that my trackpad and touchpad are acting erractically when I use the mouse at the same time. I detected these erractic movements due to some accidental touching of the trackpad and touchpad.  For example; my trackpad cursor would display a vertical and horizontal scrolling icons when I move the trackpad and I could not scroll my document using my mouse and touchpad. The scrolling icons would disappear after a short while and I would no longer move the cursor with the trackpad. However, the trackpad and mouse are able to move the cursor. However, scrolling remain unresponsive. I restart the machine and all is fine again till I tried to control the cursor with the trackpad again. I tried to disable the trackpad and touchpad since I have a mouse connected but only the trackpad can be disable.  This is my first Thinkpad and I assume users will disable both the trackpad and touchpad with a connected mouse. I do not know if these problem exist out of the box since I connect the mouse to it on my 3rd day of usage and I found them due to the accidental touching of the trackpad last night. Further trial and error confirmed their erratic movements. I tried to re-install the drivers and navipoint but the issue remained.  Is my trackpad and mousepad having problem for these erratic movements and by default, both the trackpad and touchpad cannot be disabled in Thinkpad?

hello again
i need a little advice
i changed the keys on the keypad and now touch pad doesn't work at all
tried old one and it doesn't work either
made sure ribbon cables where connected and the pull tab up
am i missing something?
not the first time this has happened on a 1525
thanks
any help would be much appreciated

Answer:Trackpad not working on Dell 1525 after changing the keys

Are you refering to the tab (that swings up to release) on the connector the ribbon sits in?

If so, the tab needs to be up in order for the ribbon cable to be inserted fully, and its then pushed down so its flush with the ribbon.

I've also renamed the title of your thread to something more suitable, as this will help you get better assistance from others.

Hello. I wonder if there are any solutions for the following problem I am having with my touchpad. The touchpad mouse is extremly glitchy Please help, as this is a really basic requirement for any touchpad. I am currently a little disappointed as this is the most expensive laptop i have ever purchased. The touchpad/ imagepad has many functions, but the simple ability to be unable to point to exactly where you need to 20% of the time, is making this almost unusable. Notebook details: HP Envy 17 - Windows 7 - Model - 17-3270NR I look forward to your help guys! Unfortunately, the trackpad and touchpad of my T460p stop working intermittently. The problem seems to occur after the laptop is going into hibernation. When it boots up afterwards, neither the trackpad nor the touchpad or the mouse buttons work, and the device manager shows the Synaptics device having a hardware issue. The problem persists when rebooting the system and even when using a different operation system (e.g. Ubuntu via a Live USB). I tried upgrading the Synaptics drivers (v19.0.19.1), which does not solve the problem though. I also tried different driver versions (e.g. the ones offered on the Lenovo site), without success. I encountered this problem both on Windows 10 Home & Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, as well as various Linux flavors (Ubuntu, Fedora). The only workaround that I found is to shut down the laptop, remove the battery and reboot it afterwards, which seems to reset the faulty state the touchpad is in. I strongly suspect that this is a problem with the firmware of either the mainboard or the Synpatics device itself, which puts it into an invalid state when going into hibernation. For now, I disabled hibernation mode, which avoids the problem but is not ideal of course. Did someone else run into this problem? Any ideas how to permanently fix this? I'm very happy with the T460p otherwise but this problem just drives me crazy as it's impossible to use a laptop without touchpad/trackpad when traveling.

I recently got this new Thinkpad T460p and installed Windows and Ubuntu in dual boot. Even after 3 Days there was no error. But today I noticed a quite annoying behaviour. When I boot into Windows (Start up --> Grub, select Windows Loader --> Windows 10 starts) there appears the loading cycle (those white points) and for a short moment, even before the locked Windows screen appears, I can see the cursor. But immediately after that (when the locked home screen appears) the laptop won't recognize any input via touchpad, buttons or trackpad andthere won't appear a cursor at all. I need to login and wait for about a minute (Whatever I do, the laptop won't recognize anything but the normal keyboard), thats the moment in which my Laptop realizes that there are more possibilities to input data then just the keyboard and recognizes everything (touchpad, buttons and trackpad).I already deinstalled the synaptic driver and reinstalled the latest update and even tried the one before that one just to be sure. Nothing fixed my problem yet.PS.: When I start into Ubuntu there is no Problem at all.PPS.: When I started into Windows a day ago It worked fine as well.

Whenever I wake my chromebook from sleep the trackpad function is inoperable. There is no cursor displayed and using the trackpad does not appear to have any effect (i.e. no "invisible" cursor either). Upon reboot all trackpad function is restored. This started happening after I had been using my chromebook for a few months, so I'm guessing there was a software update associated with it, but I have no idea which one. Anyone else experienced this? TIA

Hello, I posted as a part of another thread before but decided to make my own thread for this. I have lost my lenovo partition and reinstalled windows 10 on a fresh install.  This has resulted in my trackpad being rendered unfunctional. I have tried all sorts of drivers to try and get it working but alas nothing has worked. I contacted the live support and they just told me to install the Lenovo companion and give that a go with the drivers from that, but it did nothing to help and ended up downloading the same drivers I tried before.   I have the same issues in Ubuntu also and there is no activity when it comes to the pad, the buttons dont work nor does the motion.  I have looked around on the internet and found next to no solutions for the problem I have.    On my device manager I have however one single unknown device, which I have tried to install drivers onto and that doesnt work also, so I have no idea what that could be.   I would like any advice at this point becuase its driving me mad and I am unable to return the laptop due to being currently in another country.   Thanks in advance.

The trackpad and touchpad of my Yoga stops working: the cursor freezes and after a while disappears from screen. Once the cursor is gone it does not appear again, even after a clean reboot. I have tried to enable it via the Control Panel Mouse settings or Input section of ?Lenovo Settings? application but had no success.
The problem has happened several times so far, always after the laptop sleeps due to inactivity. The only way I have found so far to bring the trackpad and touchpad back is by going to the BIOS settings and restoring the default configurations (I have never changed the BIOS settings on this PC, so I can?t figure out why this solves momentarily the problem).

Any ideas on why this problem is happening, and how to solve it without messing with the BIOS settings?

This is becoming really annoying, it has happened three times since yesterday (10/23/15).

My BIOS version when this first happened was 1.26 (GQET46WW), my current BIOS version is 1.27 (GQET47WW). My laptop runs Windows 10 Pro (automatically updated from the Windows 8.1 version delivered with the laptop).

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-touchpad-and-trackpad-stops-working...

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working. I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work. If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

Hello There is a feature in Lenovo Ideapad 310 which is being annoying to me: the trackpad is deactivated when I press a key in the keyboard. How this can be configured on Xubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu Mate 16.04 and on Asus M2400Ne with a Synaptics device, looks like this is solely a software issue, but I was not able to find where is this configuration on Windows 10. The Windows 10 options in Configurations-> Devices-> Mouse and Touchpad had no effect, even the option to delay the time between I use the keyboard and click was not effective. Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Mouse had no option to change this too. I have searched and found this topic, but I am seriously concerned regarding messing with Windows registries. I do not want to change registries I do not know because I need the capability to boot the computer after this. I tried to find the registries cited on that topic, but could not find them. Is there a option somewhere which I can deactivate this behaviour? All drivers are updated using the System Update program that came installed on the computer. Windows 10 is updated too. Thank you.

I could really use some help with this. I've searched all over the net and there isn't a real solution to this. Most threads are closed or never answered. I have a Dell Vostro 1510 and everything works fine but when doing things fast or under high cpu load my trackpad locks up for a second and if I try to keep using it it will trail slowly until I stop for a second then go and it works again. Something is temporarily locking it up and it can be very annoying during some things.

It is a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad. Using "device driver update" produced no new hardware that matched better than what I have currently. The funny thing I noticed is the device drivers for my model on Dell doesn't match what I have..

http://goo.gl/9Cc53

None of those 3 under Keyboard/Mouse match what I have. Or do they? I matched the synaptic version and it didn't match anything there. Here is a list of my shipped system specs:

Answer:Vostro 1510 Touchpad/Trackpad Freezes Randomly

Ran the Dell diagnostics and using the symptom tree I ran the 2 tests that fit this issue (I guess it's a real common problem for it to be standard in the system tree) and it didn't detect any errors/issues. All passed. By the way, to clarify what I meant by High CPU Load I was speaking of the cylinder light on the keyboard dash. I think that's actually for the HDD not CPU. So again it seems to happen when the hdd is already under load.

Hi all,

I've basically spent the whole day looking for a solution (which I still don't think I have), so figured I'd try my luck here.

The trackpad/touchpad (mouse cursor) on the Dell XPS 13 (9343) will randomly freeze-up, stop scrolling, stop being able to mouse click, start randomly resizing/scrolling or will cease to do anything at all after a while. This is a known issue apparently and commonly experienced by most owners.

Does anyone know of an actual solution for this? Dell released a firmware update that supposedly addressed the issue however unfortunately mine started doing it again today to the point where I had to literally power the machine off and reboot.

From what I've read here:

YES!!! A SOLUTION/ACTUAL WORKING FIX! XPS Laptop's - Touchpad / Touch pad / Mouse issue. Windows 8/10 need apply. Scrolling in Chrome mirrors that of Edge. Now THIS is Precision. Scrolling you're actually used to seeing on a laptop. : Dell

It sounds like my next move might be to try installing the windows 10 PS/2 generic driver from Synaptics?

Any advice/help on this would be greatly appreciated! I can't really find any solutions or updates past 2015..

Between this and trying to update my sound driver, I'm losing my hair, FAST.

The cursor is jumping around when you lift your finger from the trackpad. I am finding it very difficult to use Photoshop and cannot do anything precise which is ironic as this is a precision touchpad. There is nothing precision about it.
In this post someone found a firmware Dell for XPS13, Is there something similar for 5559?
Thank Very Much

Answer:Problem in 5559 (series 5000) touchpad / trackpad

You can update the System Setup(BIOS)and see if that make an difference. Please click on the link below:

Just making sure I'm reading your post correctly, you do have the precision touchpad on the Inspiron 5559 ? Correct ? If you don't know for sure, go to device manager, stroll down to "Mice And Other Pointed Devices, and then expand it. Hopefully, you'll see touchpad driver.

I have two issues and would appreciate any help.  In a nutshell: Bluetooth module is in place, but doesn't appear in Device Manager. What is the part no. for the cable that connects the bluetooth module?Touchpad/trackpad stopped working after disconnecting/reconnecting its ribbon cable (while checking the bluetooth module) - I can see the little gold fingers at the motherboard end are now messed up. What is the part no. for this trackpad ribbon cable? In more detail:1) On my T430S I replaced the bluetooth daughter board because I thought it might be faulty - but I can still not see any bluetooth hardware in device manager, and no driver installation seems to get it to show. Can someone please tell me the part no. of the ribbon cable and small board 'Bluetooth Wireless Radio Switch FPC' (see https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/documents/pd023563).2) After messing around with the bluetooth module (see above), thetrackpad/touchpad and trackpoint no longer work. I can see now that the ribbon cable's small gold fingers are damaged (the cable poking straight up from the trackpad and connecting to the motherboard. This is the more serious problem - but I can't work out what the part number is for this ribbon cable. My keyboard bezel does not have a fingerprint reader.Thank-you again for any help

Hi I have an X100e (dual core turion ybased) which appears to have developed a problem with the left most key at the foot of the touchpad. Specifically, it has developed an annoying clicking sound periodically when in use. I believe the click may be something to do with a bar that may be sitting under the key to ensure that the whole key moves parallel to the keyboard when pressed (much like other wide keys such as the space bar, the shift or enter kes). What I would like to know is whether there is a way to reseat the key to resolve the clicking sound or whether rectification of the problem lies in returning the product to a service centre for the palm rest (part code: 60Y5284) to be changed. Roger

Hello all,

I unboxed this laptop today and the touchpad does not respond very well often requiring a few seconds of "wiggling" before it will work. It is also quite jumpy.

I have tried changing various settings including the sensitivity and the plam prevention, but to no avail.

I have tried this with multiple operating systems, including launching directly from a disc, and the problem persists.

Has anyone else had this experience, or any advice to share regarding this matter?

Thank you all very much for your time.

Answer:Qosmio X870-119 - Trackpad/Touchpad is extremely unresponsive

Hello,

I, too, have just unboxed a Qosmio X870-119 and have the same problem with the touchpad.

I noticed that the "unresponsiveness" happens most often when I leave the touchpad idle and untouched for a few seconds. When I do that, it then takes a couple seconds of wiggling for the cursor to start moving.

I've also toyed with all the options in the provided software, but to no avail. Maybe there's a fault with the driver ?

Thanks in advance for any help with this matter.

Just got the Yoga Pro 2 this week. I'm noticing a small movement in my clickpad (or whatever its calls) when I lightly tap on it. It feels like there is a 2 to 3 millimeter pocket of space under it before it provides resistance for the actual click motion. If you take your finger and just lightly tap your finger on the touchpad do you hear and feel a slight vibration, like it might be loose? I know it has to move downwards motion to activate the mouse click buttons, but I feel like there is movement in the pad before I get resitance for the click motion. I'm wondering if this is the design or I just got a slightly off designed one. Does it feel solid on your Yoga Pro 2?

Answer:Yoga 2 Pro Clickpad Touchpad Trackpad movement and vibrations

I had the same problem with mine.  Every time I'd just lightly tap the pad in order to "click", I'd actually hear a click.  Very annoying.  Some odd movement under the pad that just didn't seem right. I ended up exchanging it at Best Buy (where I bought it).  The best buy guy tried to claim it was normal, but didn't mind at all when I insisted that I wanted to exchange.  The replacement has no issues.

I've been having an issue with my X270 laptop since I bought it. The laptop is running Windows 10. What happens is randomly (this can take weeks, or days) the trackpad and pointing stick completely stops working. The only solution is to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them using an external mouse. I've tried various versions of the drivers, including the latest, and it still continues to happen. Any solutions to fix this?

I've tried everything. No one had ever had this problem, except me. Searching online and Youtube proved to be no help. I beg all of you who have experience with issues like this to please read.

When I first brought my laptop (ASUS Q304UA) , it was perfectly fine and no problems. However, up until 7 months into using it, the trackpad suddenly became unresponsive out of no where. It would jump around and fly everywhere when using it. The multi touch gestures would make the screen go crazy and do all sorts of zooms, multitasking, etc when just trying to scroll down. It was definitely unusable.

This prompted me to RMA it to ASUS, which took them one month to repair it. They had apparently replaced only the hard drive claiming it was a "bad sector" or whatever... Upon several hours of use after repairs, the problem was back.

I then RMA'd it a second time which made them replace the motherboard and trackpad. Unfortunately, the problem did come back, except it took a little longer (5 days/ 1week).

Now I know that this is NOT hardware because I encountered that restarts, restores, etc all solve the problem temporarily and then comes back. When messing with programs and devices, I feel the mouse gets a little better for a couple minutes but then resumes to its terrible and erratic behavior, rendering my laptop COMPLETELY useless.

I cannot do ANYTHING with this trackpad as it constantly jumps around and teleport making it EXTREMELY difficult to click on the ... Read more

In November, I was given the HP ELITE X2 as a gift for my birthday. However, immediately I noticed an issue with the trackpad where it freezes at random. In the beginning, the computer would freeze maybe once a day. However, as time goes on, the freezing has become more frequent to the point where now it is almost unusable. I looked at the forums and a lot of people who have HP devices seem to be having this issue as well. I tried downloading and installing the file that HP suggested which supposively fixes the issue and updated all my drivers to no avail. I tried going to online chat but as soon as I selected the HP ELITE X2, it indicates that this product has been long retired. How is this possible considering that they are still selling this tablet on their website? Furthermore, when I called the tech support line, there was a long queue which eventually ended up with a "technician" sourced from India who was unable to comprehend the issue. Any help to resolve this issue will be appreciated.

So, the trackpad on my ES1-111M is freezing up again and just stops and becomes unresponsive. Pressing FN+F7 to turn off the trackpad function and then turn it back on again sometimes 'releases' it.  A plugged in USB mouse works fine. I have updated the BIOS as instructed in my previous thread, it worked better for a while then back to freezing up again.  I have tried to update the driver and I even completely reinstalled Windows and factory reset my Acer Aspire, again, worked great up to a point and then just started freezing up again. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to solve this?  Could it be a hardware issues and nothing to do with Windows?  I have not even had the device for one year.  The trouble is that the issue is intermittent and does not always happen so I am worried Acer support (in Thailand) won't diagnose and test the machine enough and will see it works and assume it is fixed without any real investigation. Can I try any other drivers for the trackpad (Windows 8.1) from another Acer model to see if that helps? Many thanks - Ian

Up until recently my laptop was working fine.  But now, for some reason, the trackpad just decides to randomly freeze.  Sometimes I can use my laptop for about a minute and then the cursor freezes and usually the only way to get it to be responsive again (Windows 8.1) is to press the Start key on the keyboard to go to the Start screen, press it again to go to the desktop and so on, cycling between the two and then I briefly gain control of the cursor again, I move it around, sometimes cannot click, it freezes, repeat cycling between the Start screen and desktop etc. I don't really want to have to restore my device so what are my options to resolve this?  It is really annoying.  Plugging in a USB mouse works fine for the USB mouse, trackpad still keeps freezing intermittently.  Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers does nothing, changing the trackpad option in the BIOS does nothing - any ideas? Many thanks. Ian

Product: HP Spectre x360Product #: L0Q59UA#ABL Hi, I'm having a problem with the touchpad's sensitivity and responsiveness. My father bought me this laptop a week or two ago and it's been great. By far the best laptop I've had thus far, but now it is having a major issue with the touchpad. I've scoured and googled this problem and these forums and found similar things but all the solutions offered were ineffective and I'm also having some problems I didn't see reported about. The touchpad was fine at first, and whenever I restart the laptop, it's fine and works as intended. However, a few minutes into use, if that, it starts to act up. By this, I mean the following: The cursor does not go where I intend itIt's laggyLeft click results in that omni-directional scrolling icon and trying to move the mouse means scrolling/moving the page.Right click moves off to the side and is generally weird and cannot click accurately.I can no longer soft tap to click/select something. The mouse moves on its own. It's very erratic and makes typing or clicking or selecting very difficult. The page scrolls down on its own.I'm starting to think my laptop is haunted. There's more I can't think of right now, so I might edit the original post/comment with more info or make a subsequent post in this thread. I've tried to clean the touchpad with a lightly wetted towel (to get rid of any oil finger stains or whatever), and follow... I am running the latest build of Windows 10 (build 10240).

Now that release date is coming driver updates are arriving for my laptop (Acer ES1-111M). One of which is for the Synaptics touchpad. When I apply this driver and restart my laptop the trackpad no longer works and the new driver has an error in Device Manager and cannot start.

This device cannot start (error code 10)

The specified request is not a valid operation for the target device.

If I try to update the driver it says the latest version is installed. I have to rollback the driver to the previous one supplied by Microsoft and the trackpad works again, However the entire process repeats when the Synaptics trackpad update is automatically installed again by Windows Update.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks.

Hi
I've had an issue that has become more frequent over the last month or so with the laptop, when regularly browsing the trackpad cursor will freeze for a couple of seconds and then be fine again. Could the trackpad be failing? I still have complete care warranty on the laptop if that is the issue.
I'm just wondering are there any diagnostic tests I can do to check if this is a software/hardware problem?
I don't think it's a system resource problem, i've looked at the tast manager and CPU/RAM/Hard Drive usage rarely goes above 50%.

My one-week old T540p has a problem with its trackpad freezing. It happens sometimes after I click the trackpad down by pressing in the upper-middle region. It doesn't happen for tap clicks, only real push clicks. It will happen within the first ten minutes of use, so it is not a rare problem, but it doesn't happen everytime I click this region. When it freezes I cannot move the Trackpad or Trackpoint and cannot click or tap either. It all goes completely dead. It is not an issue of my computer being busy and slowing down, as it can happen on the first login screen or when no programs are running. I can still navigate menus with the keyboard. If I plug in a USB mouse it works fine but doesn't restore functionality to the Trackpad/point. The Trackpad/point will only work again after a magic Trackpad click unfreezes it, which takes a while of randomly trying, but often I have given up clicking and rebooted to regain functionality. I am running Windows 8. My drivers are up-to-date (17.0.12.60). BIOS settings look normal (both 'enabled'). Thanks for your help!

Hello, does anyone know how to cure a persistent problem I have with my L520? Its just over a year old and it has this annoying habit of freezing when I am using the trackpad. There doesn't seem to be any obvious situation that causes it as it can happen when I am scrolling up or down a page when browsing the internet, with Explorer or Chrome, but it also happens sometimes when I am scrolling in Word or Outlook. I has been happening when I am looking at PDF's too.The freeze doesn't recover itself even if I wait for a while. The only way I can get the machine to work is to press and hold the on/off button until the laptop shuts done and then power it back up. Its happening fairly regularly.Hope someone has a solution. Thanks

That could be a memory problem. How much memory do you have? Does it happen if you only have one program running? Perhaps something is sucking up resources in the background. Have you tried an external mouse and are you using updated drivers?

My L855-11P dual boots with clean installs of Windows 7 and 8, both with up to date drivers. Windows 7 runs perfectly but the trackpad keeps freezing on Windows 8.

When using the trackpad the cursor will suddenly freeze on screen; I have to take my finger off the pad and put it back on before the cursor will start to move. There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern to when this happens but it is very frequent, two or three times per minute.

Windows reports the driver as version 16.2.10.15 dated 16.08.2012; the Toshiba site shows this driver as being updated 28/11/12.

Any advice appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L855 - trackpad keeps freezing on Windows 8

I guess this isn?t an touchpad driver problem.
I think the issue is related to the touchpad settings.

Here is a nice documentation how to change the touchpad settings in Win 8 system:

Hi guys, I am trying to maintain my doughter's school aptop but encountered something exceding my limited expertise. Since about 10 days the touchpad, buttons and the red thingie stopped working. I have read all the forum issues, uninstalled the drivers and re-installed new ones (first through the lenovo sulotion centre, then the synaptics generic version). About 6 times now. That didn't work. It says "component not present, not working correctly or divers not fully installed, error 24" (translation from Dutch, probably used some incorrect terms).Running windows 10 on this t420. All worked fine untill this happened. I saw that some new mouse drivers have been installed around the day of malfunction but can't find how or where to remove those (still getting used to this windows 10).Any suggestions?

So far, there's just 2 of us with trackpoint / touchpad problems as a result of installing Windows 10.  My post:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T420-Win-10-Pro-Ultra-Nav-19-00-12-61-Tr... I've combed through this forum and have no one else reporting these same issues; most are reporting that left and right click buttons are working, but the middle button did not work.  In my case, it was the opposite; the middle button scrolled (albeit very choppy), and the left / right buttons were dead.for my Trackpoint.  It's not a hardware issue, as all buttons function as normal in Win 7, but upon installation of Win 10, the buttons do not work.  I went so far as to do a clean install of Win 10 to ensure there were no conflicts between Win 10 and any leftover Win 7 system files, only to end up with the same old left and right button problems. So until the Ultra Nav drivers to enable full functionality of trackpoint / touchpad device, the only solution is to use a physical mouse or revert back to your prior operating system.

So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad. For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).  I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly. After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything. I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine). Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.  I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem? The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you) Thanks a bunch,Amanda

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

Go into the BIOS (press F1 during the initial bootup) menu then go into CONFIG -> Keyboard/Mouse -> Disable both the TrackPoint and Touch Pad -> press F10 to save and exit.

Good evening, Every now and then, after using the laptop for a while, or getting it from sleep mode, the touchpad simply quits working as it should. Clicking by simply tapping the pad stops working, and clicking by really pushing in the trackpad itself will only activate either right or left click. Sometimes it even quits working at all. After rebooting the device the issues will be over, which makes me think it is some sort of a software issue. Also every now and then, while working in my student room, my laptop loses its internet connection. While there are many Wi-Fi signals in my student room-complex, it can't detect any of them. Then, after waiting for some time and rebooting the device once or twice, the connection will get restored, and all the other signals are back as well. Both issues aren't very huge, yet very annoying when working on a paper or so. Especially since I bought the laptop a little longer then two months ago, assuming due to it's price and the ThinkPad?s reputation (being able to stop a bullet and yet still work) this is a huge disappointment Anyone who has a solution for me for either one of these problems? Thanks!

Answer:Lenovo W540 randomly loses Wifi connections and its trackpad/touchpad often doesn't work

I have also noticed some wifi problems on the W540. I have the Intel AC7260, and occassionally, it stops working - reporting a driver problem. When this happens, it is not working at all and cannot scan for available wifi networks - exactly like you report. However, if I do a quick uninstall and scan for hardware changes within device manager, normal operation is restored, without having to reboot repeatedly. After a while, it will stop working again - this is not too frequent, however. I assume it is a dirver problem.

When scrolling with the index finger on my right hand I will regularly hover over and lightly touch the left button with my left index finger in anticipation of the link/button/text box etc that I am about to click on. I have always done this an never encoutered any issues on the numerous laptops I have owned and used in the past). When I do this on my newly axquired Lenovo Yoga 900 it causes the mouse pointer to lag momentarily. I have updated drivers (v19.0.17.57), I have turned off ALL Multi-Finger options (2-finger, 3-finger and 4-finger) and reduced Palm Tracking to the minimum. Is this behavior isolated to me, or are other experiencing the same behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use an HP ENVY Notebook - m6-p114dx (Touch) (ENERGY STAR) with windows 10. When I move my touch pad I can not press down a key at the same time. This is not very useful to gamers such as myself. I have searched for a bit now to find a solution. I have tried the smart sense solution, palmcheck solution, and many more. Please if anyone finds anything just say something.

Answer:Touchpad not working while keys are pressed down

Hi, Normally, you just need to turn off SmartSense or PalmCheck the Synaptics control panel - however from what I've seen, this no longer seems to work for Windows 10 versions of this driver. You may be able to get around this as follows. First, download the Synaptics driver on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. Synaptics Driver Version 17.0.18.8 Turn off your wireless card ( should be f12 ). Open windows control panel, open Programs and Features, right click the current Synaptics driver and select Uninstall. When complete, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder and run the Synaptics installer - when this has completed, restart the notebook again. Open the Synaptics settings panel, disable SmartSense or PalmCheck and then check if the touchpad will now work with a keyboard key held down.  If it does, turn your wireless card back on and use the utility on the following link to prevent Windows 10 from automatically updating the Synaptics driver. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3073930 Regards, DP-K

Hi to the forum.   I am a newly registered user of this forum but have been using Thinkpads for quite a while (T30, T43 and T61).   The T61  - 8891-CTO -  is rather old by now too and recently exhibited the 1 long and then short beeps and would not boot.   The GPU most likely overheated - a guess.    Following online hints I did manage to get the system back.   However, in the process something must have gone wrong and the Trackpoint/buttons and the Touchpad do not work anymore.  The BIOS does report them both as present and they are set to 'automatic'. Finding some mention of fuses on Thinkpad motherboards online I was wondering if there is a single fuse for both the Trackpoint/buttons and the Touchpad somewhere on the T61 motherboard and if so, could someone please point out where that fues is located? thanks, Anton

Answer:T61 trackpoint/mouse keys/touchpad

I would first try downloading new UltraNav drivers:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS019164

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014080

Here is a link to all of your drivers:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-67853

Let me know if this helps.

As the subject says I can't use the keyboard and mouse at the same time. I have tried disabling Smart sense in the Symantecs click pad settings by moving the slider all the eway to the left but this has not resolved it. I have also went into the mouse and touchpad settings and set to no delay but this also has not resolved my issue. I have the latest drivers (19.2.11.38)  installed. Is there another setting that I am missing?

Hello ppl

i just had my system reinstaled with win 7 64bit professional, and can?t find a way to disable the touchpad. i prefer to use a dedicated, and very handy usb mouse. i used to have windows home edition, on this hardware, and everything worked. just pressed Fn + F9, et voila: touchpad disabled, and just use the mouse

i noticed on device manager an unknown usb device, that keeps popping up. unpluged all devices (including the mouse), rebooted, and there it is again. weird, because all usb devices (pendrives, mouse, usb harddrives, usb wi-fi modem), seem to work ok. because of that, already updated the touchpad and usb drivers, to no avail

I have recently purchased an X1 Yoga laptop and I have noticed that the touchpad keys get blocked sometimes and stay blocked, no matter whether I close or open the laptop or whether I turn the screen 360 degrees. Usually it happens when I close the laptop, carry it somewhere and open it again to continue working. When it happens, I cannot click them, but the tapping and scrolling etc. works fine, so it is detecting the fingers. However, the keys are not travelling down at all, as if something was blocking the touchpad under it. Sometimes they stay blocked for hours, sometimes they start working again after a short time. What can be causing this problem? Is there an issue with the touchpad mechanism and I have to take the laptop to the service? Thanks for your help! Best,Agata

I had to reinstall a new hard drive on inspiron 14r and reinstall operating systems and drivers. All seems fine but I can not shut off the touchpad with function keys. Does anyone know what driver I need to reinstall or program?

Answer:Lost use of function keys to shut off touchpad

It depends on the model of 14r that you have but it is either going to be Dell Quickset and the touch pad drivers themselves.  I also suggest checking the BIOS, just start the system tapping F12 an choose bios, looking under the advanced tab, function key behavior and toggle between multimedia key or function key.
If you continue to have problems please reply with the version of 14r and I will be happy to look up the driver files.

When Windows is reset, the touchpad will not be enabled and I must go into my control panel and open up the mouse settings. After that, the two finger scroll will work. I dont change any settings, all I have to do is open up the mouse settings and it works again. When browsing the net, when i click play on an embedded YouTube clip, or if I click on a textbox the scroll will no longer work until the page is reloaded. Once the page is reloaded, you are able to two finger scroll up and down the page again. The designated sound keys on the top left are finicky at times aswell. Typically when browing the internet, the sound keys wont work until you click the sound icon in the taskbar. Any ideas on how to solve this?

Hi there,

I just downgraded from VISTA to XP and setting basic dirvers but there are some problems.

After I set up XP sp2, I installed :
1. Chipset driver
2. Display driver
3. Sound driver
4. Lan driver(include wireless)
5. Modem driver(it's software modem driver for toshiba)
until this procedure, it looks fine.
I installed common module, and made a reboot then set up touch-pad driver and touch-pad on/off program.

But touch-pad doesn't work at all.
I also tried to setup toshiba controls but it says "You have to set up common module first" although I did set up the common module.

Internet on wireless, sound, display are OK now.
But I can't use touch-pad, and other function keys.

Can anyone give me a solution for these problem?

Answer:Satellite L300 PSLB0A - Cannot use Touchpad & Fn keys after XP installation

The Common Modules is very important, you should always install this as soon as possible.

Try this:

Remove Common Modules
Remove the Touchpad driver and other hotkey related drivers
Update the BIOS.
Reboot.
Install Common Modules
Install the Touchpad driver and other hotkey related drivers

I play certain games such as League of Legends where mouse accuracy and usage speed is very important. Since getting the Y50, (Running Windows 8.1) i've been trying to configure all the touchpad settings I can to get things how I like, but one problem seems impossible for me to reaserch.  The default touchpad setting is to reject all inputs while the keyboard is in use, which is good for people who want to surf the web, but a nightmare for games such as League. I found out very quickly how to change the touchpad so that it is "always on", so now I can move the mouse and use the mouse buttons while typing or holding down a key. However, tapping remains disabled while the keyboard is in use. It's not exactly a show stopper, because obviously I could just left click instead of tapping, but since the touchpad is left-of-center, I would find it much more comfortable if I could tap to left click while doing something like, say, holding down the w key.  All the days of off-and-on reaserch i've done alone on this issue don't seem to be getting me very far. The overwhelming majority of people with touchpad problems seem only interested in step one, which was changing the touchpad to "always on", just so they could move. I suppose it doesn't help that most people who play complex games almost always use external mice instead of laptop touchpads, but I've used touchpads to play the games I like for a very long time. (Though the laptops i've had before had such poor t... Read more

Answer:Lenovo Y50 touchpad, can move mouse while keys are pressed but can't tap

I've found that touchpads in general are just terrible for gaming. For example, I apicked up a Y50 over the holidays. One of the first games I tested out for fun was Minecraft. When using the Keyboard to move, the touch pad yields NO inputs whatsoever! Literally none until you let go of the keys on the keyboard. I never liked touchpads in the first place, so I got a mouse pretty quick. And I suggest you do as well for maximum capabilities while playing games!  I looked through the ELAN driver settings for hte touchpad, couldn't find anything to solve the problem. You could try uninstalling the driver and installing a new one, but that's taking it a little far in my opinion. I'd rather suggest you buy a mouse. Touchpads were bever designed for gaming, in my opinion  To me, the problem seems to be repeating keyboard keys. But I can't find a way to disable that sort of feature.  Hope this helps. ~Zara

Hello, we're using only thinkpads at work for years, and are currently switching from the T530 series to the newer T540p series if someone needs a new laptop! Is there no thinklight anymore, and is the alternative "Keyboard Backlight" not includes in all Series? This would be a huge issue, cause we never thougt that there could be a "T" modell without some kind of keyboard illumination. Is there a way to automaticly change the "Function" Keys behavior, so that everytime the systems boots, the "F1-F12" Function is enabled und not this stupid default configuration? I can imagine that for example a user disconnects by acidents the wifi an the connection to our main terminal application is lost, so he can't log on anymore after reconnect. Is there a key to activate and disactivate the touchpad? If you use the Trackpoint it is very easy do accidently move the mouse cursor with the touchpad.

Hi there, My Lenovo U430 has been acting really strange lately. The right and down arrow keys when pressed once scrow all the way to the right/down as if it the key was being held down. Say if I press the down key once it will scroll down to the bottom of a page really fast causing the mouse pointer to dissappear and the touchpad won't respond until I press a key. The same thing happens when I press the right key when browsing pictures for example. I also noticed that the 2 finger scrolling and rotation features stopped working altough they are enabled in synaptics settings. Any idea what may be causing the problem? Thanks!

Hello everybody,

I have two questions and I will highly appreciate your help.

First, when I got the laptop it used to have a Fn bar that comes down from the top of the screen when I press Fn, it shows all the Fn keys, now it disappeared. I need to get it back, I almost tried everything and nothing is there yet.

Second, the touch pad is not zooming anymore when I apply the 2 fingers in and out, it used to do that before.

My laptop is Satellite L505-13W

Thank you in advance

Answer:Satellite L505-13W - FN keys not shown and touchpad issue

Hi abdouni,

1. I think the problem is related to Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. Both tools control the FN keys and the Flash Cards appear if you press FN key.
You can download it on official Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Regarding the installation: First of all remove both tools and restart the notebook. Now install Value Added Package and restart again. Install Flash Cards Support Utility and make one restart. Now the FN keys should work again.

2. This could be related to Value Added Package too? So check my posting.
If it?s not work, reinstall the touchpad driver.

I have two problems with my Toshiba Satellite P300-19N.

First, a few months ago my touchpad became completely unresponsive. I hadn't installed or changed anything major that day. It just stopped working while I was using the laptop. Both the buttons and the actual pad do not work. I did buy a USB mouse as a temporary stopgap but I would like the problem to be solved. Anyone have any ideas about what could be causing it and possible solutions.

This week, the media hot keys above the keyboard (next to the power button) stopped working. I wiped over them with a dry cloth as the laptop was dusty and the play/pause button lit up but nothing happened. Now none of the hot keys are responsive and the play button remains lit up, even when the laptop has been shut down and unplugged.

If anybody has any advice on hw to solve these two problems I would be extremely grateful.

Answer:Satellite P300 - Touchpad and media keys not responding

Hi JRCP,

If the touchpad doesn?t respond I assume it?s just disabled and you can use FN+F9 key combination to disable/enable it.
Check this!!!

Regarding the multimedia keys that you mean you should reinstall Toshiba Value Added Package. This package contains the drivers for those keys and should be reinstalled. In my case it could solve the problem and you can download it here:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

But generally speaking the buttons can be used with Windows Media Player only?

Hi everyone,

I am at a loss with my situation. My Lenovo Y510 laptop's keyboard, touch inductive keys/multi-media buttons, volume, and the multi-media-equalizer switch all stopped working. I am able to use an external USB mouse and keyboard, and as of about an hour ago got the keyboard functioning again. The touch inductive buttons have power and light up when pressed but do not do anything.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the touchpad drivers. I do not know which driver controls the touch inductive buttons so haven't tried that option. I have heard that installing SP1 (I am running Vista 32 bit) can solve this issue, but haven't tried it. I have also heard that after use the wires that connect the mouse and keyboard to the mainboard may wiggle loose, however I do not know how to get in and check.

I am WAY past my warranty and would like to try and fix this. I have built desktop computers and done repairs, but laptops are a new realm for me. Need all the help I can get.

Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade
Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected.
The computer needs Windows 10 drivers for the hardware to work properly. Dell did not create any Windows 10 drivers for the Inspiron n5010

This is my first post so I hope someone can help me out. I had to open my laptop because my power connector moved inside my laptop so I was unable to charge the machine.

I opened up the case very carefully and repositioned the power socket. When I put the machine back together neither right or left buttons or the touchpad would work. I never even touched anything around the touchpad.

I just lifted the top right hand corner of the case so that I could slot the power connecter back into position.

Any help would really be appreciated.
I tried FN & F9 to see if that would unlock the touchpad. I also tried taking the battery out and pressing the on button for 30 seconds, neither of these worked (I read this in other forums).

Hi

I assume the touchpad has worked properly before you have opened and disassembled the notebook.
Is it right?

Well, I don?t know why the touchpad buttons don?t work but in my opinion you damaged/disconnected something during the disassemble procedure and therefore the buttons are not working now.

I would not recommend disassembling this notebook again because as you see many different parts can be damage or affected and therefore I recommend contacting an notebook technician who could check this and could solve your touchpad button problem.

Regards & Good luck

Hi guys Today I had a little problem with power cable it slided inside a little bit so opened the laptop and push it out. That's fixed. But when I wanted to use touch pad and touch keys (on the top right hand side) none of them working.I did not touch anything else. Everything else is fine. This is what I did so far:1-  Download the driver, install it, no help.2-  Try to uninstall the driver for touchpad, could not find it in the Device Manager.  I am not sure, if the touch pad and touch keys(as their light are not working) has been physically damaged. So not sure it is a software or hardware issue? Could you please let me know if there is a soluton, or if you have same problem. P.S: I have a cross on the ELAN- smart pad Icon!! when I clicked on it, just a Copyright message popping up. Thanks
