T510: TrackPoint scrolling hesitates and left single click often ignored

Question: T510: TrackPoint scrolling hesitates and left single click often ignored

Issue 1: When I vertical scroll in a web page (Chrome & MSIE) by dragging TrackPoint (stick) while holding down left UltraNav button, the cursor moves but the web page fails to scroll, or demonstrates scroll latency of about .5 to 1 second behind the stick movement. Sometimes, I have to try a couple times to get the scrolling to occur. Issue 2: Very often I must double click on UI buttons and web page links with the UltraNav button, when I should, traditionally, only have to click once. Received the T510 about 7 days ago. i5, Win7 64bit, integrated graphics. I've disabled all eye candy and set theme to classic. Updated to latest available UltraNav and display driver. I've tried just about every adjustment in the mouse and UltraNav settings, going as far as disabling the touchpad and touchpad filters. Synaptics driver info:Driver provider: SynapticsDriver date: 3/24/2011Driver version: 15.2.19.0Download from: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66898File: 6hgx37ww This is truly annoying and I'm about to return this laptop. I hate to resort to that. Any help is greatly appreciated. I've used a T43 and T61 for the last 7 years at work and never had this issue. I love T-model Thinkpads, but this is a poor experience.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

1. Does vertical scroll work elsewhere? Like in Adobe Reader or a long Wordpad document?2. Same here; do clicks work elsewhere?I've only seen the delay when my CPU is being maxed out and SynTPEnh.exe doesn't intercept the middle-drag in time.

I have a brand new T510, coming from a T61p. Everything is GREAT but ONE thing... Occasionally when I am using the trackpointer (which I do often) the left click button will lose the click that it has, let me try and explain... I click down to grab a window and drag it, start dragging, suddenly without depressing the button at all, it just drops the window, and then the click kicks back on a split second later either grabbing something else or clicking something else giving it the focus. I can replicated it occasionally and opened paint, started drawing a long curvy line without unclicking the button and the line ends up with breaks in it! Has anyone had this issue? It is VERY irritating...

I have a user that has a 2nd Generation X1 Carbon (the type with virtual buttons on the Synaptics TrackPoint/TrackPad.   The user is complaining that a context sensitivie menu (of the type that a right click would initiate) intermittently is shown when she left clicks.  She normaly uses the TrackPad but does use the TrackPoint on ocassion.  Here's what I've done so far: 1) I initially thought it was the TrackPad and had Lenovo Support replace it.  The problem was reduced but is still occurs. 2) I've installed current UltraNav drivers and updated all other drivers to current levels.  The WIndows 10 is also updated to current patches.  I would try setting the UltraNave to "Click Anywhere" but that disables the TrackPoint feature that is ocassionally used.  Has anyone seen this happen before and know a fix for this?

Hi,I've a Lenovo T61 laptop. All of a sudden the left click has stopped responding on trackpoint, touchpad & mouse. Through none of the options the left click is working. Tried googling out but found no workable solutions. Please help. Laptop OS is Windows Vista 32-BIT. Thanks & Regards,Gangadhar

Answer:Issue with left click on trackpoint, touchpad and mouse - Lenovo T61

Hello,

A few things to try:

?  Create a new user account, login using that and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, then it is due to software running under your user account.
?  Start Windows in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs.  If the problem goes away, it was due to an application which runs on startup.
?  Boot the computer from a Linux Live CD/USB and see if the problem still occurs.  If it does, then the problem is not due to the operating system and you are dealing with a hardware issue.

In the case of the latter, the usual fix would be to replace the keyboard.

Had a Security Shield Rogue infection and a couple of others that were finally removed by MBAM and Norton AV, but there's other issues remaining. I can't start apps from icons on the desktop or from Start/Programs.
Quick launch functions do NOT work with single left mouse click. Short cuts on the desktop or anywhere else do NOT work. Something has been changed registry wise, but don't know where to look for setting. I'm unabile to start up apps from Start/ any apps listed or to start any apps from the Start/All Programs with a left mouse click. If I right mouse on icon and select Open, I can start the application. IE works from the desktop, but not other application shortcuts. Any ideas as to what registry settings were changed to cause this?

Win10 V.1511 and V.1607.
Example TaskBar Button - File Explorer

If you open an instance of File Explorer, then click the task bar button again, File explorer window minimizes. If you right click, a popup opens with Pinned, Frequent, and File Explorer. If you click on File Explorer, another instance of Explorer will open.

If you open an instance of File Explorer and then, hold down the "Shift" key and left click the File Explorer TaskBar button again, another instance of file explorer will open.

This works with most any application that can run in multiple instances. At some time in the past (i.e. probably Win7 era) I found a way to make individual Task bar buttons work as if the shift key was pressed (i.e. each Left Click would always open another instance of the app). After upgrading to Win10 and subsequently after loading the anniversary updates, I managed to lose that function. Since I've slept once or twice since setting this up, I no longer remember how I did it.

So to my question, Does anyone know of a setting or registry hack that will make a taskbar button function as if the shift key is pressed when it is left clicked?

I tend to use the left pane in Windows explorer a lot. I have multiple drives/partitions in my desktop as well as a "rack" of external drives that I connect via a USB hub. I spend a lot of time creating, editing, and saving/moving multimedia files.
In XP, all I have to do in the left pane of Windows Explorer is to single click a folder and not only do the contents of that folder display in the right pane, if there are sub folders inside that folder I clicked, all those sub folders will expand for that "level" of the directory tree.
In Vista, that doesn't happen. I need to double click, or look for that silly little triangle and accurately "zero-in"" on it before I can see the sub folders. This is an absolute pain - If I were to design a feature that would really annoy users, this would be on the top of the (my) list.
When I have to use a notebook, this need to zero-in on that tiny little triangle using the touchpad makes the user experience for me even less enjoyable.
Does anybody know of a way to make the Windows Explorer in Vista Home Premium behave the same way as it did in XP?

Answer:Single click to expand folder tree in left pane Vista

The triangle you are referring to is a single click item seen in 7 as well as in Vista. The settings in the menu bar>tools>folder options can be set for open by single or double clicking.

Answer:Chromebook scrolling jerky and hesitates

Hi croths,

So the step of logging into the Guest account is a great first step. The idea behind is that you wouldn't have any of your personal applications or settings loaded, and can isolate if the issue is related to the software (operating system or hardware). Considering it was better, but not perfect(?) the next step would be do a 'power wash' which will rebuild the OS and let you start over. It's quick and takes just a couple of minutes, but if you have personal data you want to save, you'll need to back that up first.

Here are steps to do a powerwash: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27685

Next step would be to do a full system recovery, you can download an OS onto a flashdrive and install it onto your Chromebook. Here are steps: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27637

Finally, if you're still having trouble I would suggest contacting support as it may be a hardware issue we need to address for you.
Hope this helps,Cory

For a while now, I have wondered why the virtual buttons shown in the utility http://imgur.com/Lljj1Z7 don?t function as advertised. According to the utility, I should get a left click if I depress the left are of the touchpad, a middle click if I push on the bumps, and a right click if I depress the right half of the touchpad. In my experience, I get a left click regardless of where I depress the touchpad. The only exception is when I depress the bumps in the top middle of the touchpad?when I do that, the mouse enters some weird scrolly mode where I scan scroll stuff with the trackpoint. It definitely does not emit a middle click. But, more importantly, I cannot figure out how to get trackpoint mode to emit a right click. How do I get trackpoint classic mode to work? Is there a way to downgrade the drive or use a non-lenovo branded driver to get it to behave properly? Right now, I?m relying on an external mouse just to middle click and right click. I?m using Windows 10 b10240 and, as in the post?s title, my trackpoint driver is the latest listed on Lenovo?s support site (which I think WU actually installed for me)?19.0.12.61. Why don?t the virtual buttons work and are there any other workarounds that don?t involve using a mode other than Trackpoint Classic?

Answer:T540p unable to right-click with virtual buttons in trackpoint or trackpoint classic mode 19.0.12.61

Seems to have partially fixed iteslf since Windows Update (WU) installed 19.0.16. Now the right half of my touchpad performs a right click when in TrackPad Classic mode. However, the supposed ?middle click? zone still does a weird scrolly mode instead of sending a middle click. Guess I still have to use an external mouse to accomplish a middle click when using Classic TrackPoint mode, but at least the situtaion is better than when I couldn?t right click with this mode.

Since the day before yesterday, I have been having a problem where my mouse double-clicks when I single-click. This happens sometimes when I open a program (I ended up opening a Firefox window with a session restore that I wanted as well as a second blank window. I didn't minimize the session restore one, so when I clicked the X on the blank window it closed both and I lost the session restore links since it closed both windows). When I right click to open a link in another tab, it sometimes opens the site in two tabs. When I click on the google window or the address window, all of the text is highlighted for replacement as if I clicked on the text twice.

I've only noticed this in XP, although I have only done a little work in Word over the last couple days.

I've looked in google and found a couple links that say it is a hardware related program (the mouse is a Logitech MX110 and I can't find it listed at their site for a driver). That is possible, but it has been very sudden AND it seemed to start after XP's latest auto-update (I really should update my OS to one of the professional ones because I've been complaining for years about XP Home's auto-update and reboot).

Is it possible that the latest XP update could have done something to the mouse driver? I should add that I think I'm still using the old Intelipoint driver with the Logitech mouse because I heard that the Logitech drivers were buggy.

Should I try updating the Intellip... Read more

Answer:mouse double-clicking when I single-click (left and right clicking)

It is likely a problem with the mouse itself. I have experienced the same issue and there are numerous reports of this problem ... and I include a link to one of them for your interest and amusement:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic360903.html

The problematic behaviour may come and go: In my own case, my problematic Logitech mouse has been behaving itself recently. I have not been able to find any reason for the variation in its behaviour from time to time. When it plays up, I simply resort to using another mouse for awhile.

Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to enable press-to-click for the trackpoint on the new x1? In the respective settings there is no such options and I searched everywhere, somebody found it? Next question: In order to avoid the annoying noise of the clickpad everytime you press it, I would like to use the tap function of the touchpad while using the trackpoint to move the cursor. Unfortunately, tapping on the pad seems to be disabled during use of trackpoint - any smart hack to get this workig? Thanks to all,J

Last week or the week before my trackpoint on my T510 stopped scrolling.  The system is MT/M 4314-7QU running 64-bit Windows 7.  I've installed 15.2 19.0 but still no scrolling.  I'm not sure what happened or where to look.  I've also uninstalled the trackpoint in device manager, removed the driver and it's made no difference.  The touchpad works but I prefer the trackpoint.  This machine is less than 6 months old so it's still under warranty.  Any suggestions?

T510: I had to fix the Yellow DC-Input which fell into the laptop. I removed the KB and KB bezel where the TouchPad sits. I did this using the Hardware Maintenance PDF from Lenovo. Now both the UltraNav pointer and pad do not work and are not recognized in device manger. The only way to get around is via a Microsoft USB Mouse. I am using the latest BIOS. I have tried disabling and rebooting, returning to automatic, uninstalling, taking out the battery and power cable, pressing the power switch for 10 seconds ? etc. etc. When I press Fn +F8 it tells me the driver is not installed, but Synaptics 16.2.19.9 is installed ?I checked both cables under magnification to see if they were damaged. I also looked at the sockets. No bent pins on any of the 4 parts.BTW: I have another T510 in the lab, also running Win 7 Pro 64bit. It works fine. I can connect or disconnect the MS USB mice ? nothing prevents Fn +F8 from working and both the pointer and pad work.I have searched the forum and the internet, nothing seems to work.Any ideas?

As it stands the t440s is unusable for trackpoint users. Clunking the clunkpad is stressful both physicall for repetitive stress, the sound is psyhcologically stressful, and it is even annoying my coworkers. The driver update today Feb 28th does nothing to resolve the main problem, which is that there is no tap to click option for trackpoint users. You have to thunk and physically click when using the trackpoint. LENOVO, are there plans to fix this?

Answer:Are the plans to allow trackpoint tapping to click rather than clunking to click on the clunkpad?

Better yet, allow a trackpoint click to be registered with pressure rather than an actual tap. This would be ideal and maybe even better than the previous physical buttons.  Tell me this is coming and I won't return my t440s. It looks feasible, linux developers are implementing in their t440s driver.

I have a t430 2342CTO with the latest ultranav drivers installed. I have seen screenshots of older versions of the driver where you can select smooth scrolling for the trackpoint. I was wondering if there is any way to enable this behavior in the current driver. Also, is there any way I can change the amount of lines scrolled by the trackpoint? Changing the windows setting only seems to affect the touchpad, not the trackpoint. Perhaps there is a registry setting or something?

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try? Thanks,Justin

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling problem

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Now days with usb mouse, PS2, trackpoint, touchpad, infrared, wireless, we need things simple like a carnival ring toss on to coke bottles.

If you need to reinstall the Trackpoint driver for your unit, here is the link below: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4KMUYL Download and save this file to the desktop and the open the folder and run the setup.exe file You might also need the Trackpoint Accessibility Driver, which can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4Z9QVD See if installing these two drivers will help you. If the drivers are installed correctly and you are still having problems with the trackpoint scrolling, it could possibly be a mechancial issue and the part would need replacement. Let me know if this helps you any. Mark

Hi!First: this is no problem-request but a solution for everybody with the same problem. I had the problem, that TrackPoint scrolling did not work in some programs. There are some posts available about correcting this issue, but there seems to be a change in the driver, so there needs to be done some changes. I mainly will refer to this post from Elad Karako, because it has a list of programs, where scrolling does not work. This post, the same as others, recommends to edit the file TP4table.dat in the C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP directory. I just updated my T540p with a 3-button touchpad and had the problem, that in some applications the TrackPoint scrolling does not work (Notepad++, Total Commander, ...)Unfortunately the rules did not work. But in newer drivers there is a further option available. The flags has been updated with the option16 Rule indicate the apply this to IBM Stick Scrolling when ScrollMethood is Synaptics. This means, that if the rule should apply to the scrolling done with TrackPoint, the flag needs to be increased by 16. I also had the problem, that the listed option WheelStd did not work in my case. After playing around I found out that Standard worked. So I updated the rules to the following and added them to the upper part of the file TP4table.dat: ; Process Explorer
*,*,*,*,*,PROCEXPL,Standard,0,25
; Notepad++ and Notepad2
*,*,*,*,*,Scintilla,Standard,0,25
*,*,*,*,*,Notepad2U,Standard,0,25
*,*,*,*,*,Notepad++,Standard,... Read more

Answer:TrackPoint scrolling not working

Excellent detective work both here and with one line scrolling; the TP4table.dat compatibility listing doesn't seem to have been updated for a long time.

I am using MS Office 2007 on my Lenovo X60 with 2GB RAM and Win XP Proffesional.  I cannot scroll pages in MS Word 2007 using the standard scrolling type setting in the mouse properties dialog box in the control panel.  When I change the scrolling type setting to auto-select I am able to scroll but the scrolling is so fast that I cannot control it. Moreover, the scrolling does not work at all in either standard or auto-select mode in some of the MS Office dialog boxes.  I have upgraded to the latest trackpoint driver, but that does not seem to improve the situation.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling speed on X60

I think that when you set the scrolling type in mouse properties to auto, you simply use the standard mouse-wheel click auto-scrolling feature of Office. Check if you can find any Office setting that allows you to adjust the auto-scrolling speed.

One of the more persistent (of several) problems plaguing my P50 (20EN) is the spastic, herky-jerky scrolling when using the TrackPoint with middle button. This is far and away the worst trackpoint I have ever used, and I've used a lot of trackpoints over the last 20 years. There are only two TrackPoint settings on this machine, and neither is relevant to this issue:? The 'ThinkPad' tab in the Windows 10 'Mouse Properties' panel has a checkbox to enable and disable TrackPoint globally and radio buttons to select the middle button function.? The Synaptics Control Panel has a slider for controlling the TrackPoint scrolling speed. TrackPoint has always stood out on my list of reasons for buying ThinkPads in the first place, so this is issue particularly poignant for me, and, frankly, I'm close to my wit's end on this one. Please, someone tell me there exists a solution.

Hi all, I pretty much always use my Trackpoint to scroll (with the middle button). But several sites I visit see horizontal scrolls as triggers to change page. So, I'll be reading a page, scrolling down via the Trackpoint -- and at some point I'll have deviated enough from vertical to trigger the horizontal behavior -- and I'll then be shuttled off to a page I don't mean to be on. Is there any way to configure the Trackpoint scroll to ONLY scroll vertically? If not, is there perhaps a way to get Google Chrome to stop listening to the horizontal scroll? Thanks, it's actually quite a PITA for some sites I visit.

Hello, Is there a way to have both - scrolling with trackpoint while holding the middle mouse button - and - being able do a middle click with the middle mouse button? I can accomplish this easily under Linux like it is described here. But under Windows it seems to be impossible. I can only have either middle clicking or trackpoint scrolling. I need both.  If anyone knows a solution to this please let me know. Walter (I have a X200s and Windows 7 x64 installed)

Answer:Trackpoint scrolling AND middle clicking

Yeah, this is easy in Linux can't we get some pressure to actually get this implemented properly in windows. Useability is the main reason i got a thinkpad it would be nice to know we could actually influence it in some way. (Bumping an old topic here)

When scrolling with the trackpoint, I find that the pages don't roll as smooth as the older Thinkpads did. My T410 scrolls much more smoothly than my X250, and I'm thinking that it is a driver issue. I have the latest Synaptics driver, which would be 18.1.27.14. I've tried rolling back the drivers, and it still doesn't improve the scrolling issue. Did anyone else experience this problem? Has anyone fixed it? Also, as an aside, I've found that I could not play FPS games with trackpoint. The left and right buttons don't click immediately after typing. I always get killed right after sprinting because I'm standing there, unable to shoot. Other than that, the trackpoint is suprisingly easy to use for games.

Answer:Spotty scrolling with trackpoint? (X250)

I've noticed something similar running the same 18.1.27.14 driver on my W520.Does trying to two-finger scroll on the touchpad temporarily make the TrackPoint scroll better? Are you on Windows 7 or 8.x?I played a good few months of BF3 on TrackPoint only when my proper mouse died, and it works very well for following a moving target.

since i've gotten my x201 i've been pretty happy with it. the only problem i've had with it is scrolling. on some applications such as itunes and AIM the program doesn't scroll. i've read a few entries saying that i have to modify the tp4table.dat file and it does work.my question is why is this necessary when other laptops don't need to do this. is this because synaptics drivers do not support scrolling in those applications yet? also how often does lenovo release new drivers to update support for more programs

Answer:scrolling problem with touchpad/trackpoint

Hello keviinf, modify the tp4table.dat file is the one way, updating the ultra nav drivers could help also. Please reboot your system after editing the tp4table.dat file.Otherwise it won´t work.I did some tweaks on my both systems too. Like enabling horizontal scrolling in Firefox.

Hello everyone, I searched a bit both these forums and others but haven't found the solution to this problem I'm experiencing. I recently bought a used T430 and I've been using it for the last couple of days, trying to get used to trackpoint and all. I performed a clean windows install and installed a Win 10 education my university provides. I followed the advice on Lenovo webpage about letting Windows update do its thing first and then run the Lenovo System Update utility to update drivers as necessary. Everything's working nicely other than some issues with the trackpoint buttons (the 3 buttons just below the space bar are called the trackpoint buttons I guess?)  Anyway, the issue is that before I did a fresh install, the middle button when pushed entered the scroll mode which then let me scroll using the trackpoint. Now it still enters the scroll mode but also does a right-click when I let go. This leads to an issue where a right-click is performed at every scroll step(if that makes sense) which leads to wonky scrolling. One other issue is that the right button does nothing at all. I expected the middle button to only have scroll functionality and the right button to simply right-click.  Things I've tried so far: - Manually removed the pointer device and ran Lenovo system update again to update the UltraNav drive, and also disabled auto-driver installation of windows update. The driver version installed by System Update is 19.0.17.115.&nb... Read more

Hi, I am attempting to fix a problem with scrolling in Windows 10 (also applicable to Win 8/8.1). Everything works as it should within non-Windows programs, but "apps" and Windows OS screens do not allow scrolling. I am using the most recent (Windows 7) Lenovo driver. I have tried installing the Ultranav version (updated for Windows 8) but it will not allow it. Any ideas on how to get a working driver installed on this machine? Everything else seems to be working flawlessly.

Hello, everyone! I'm having an issue with zooming inside autocad using the center mouse button on the laptop and the trackpoint. Whenever I try to zoom using the trackpoint, my drawing disappears and the entire autocad window seems to move up or down. Using the mousewheel on a USB mouse works just fine. Research about this issue reveals that it has been common for thinkpads since at least the T60, but all such questions go unanswered. Please tell me if there is a way to use the trackpoint to zoom and pan. I'd really like to enjoy the benefit of not having to take my hands off the keyboard to use the mouse.

Answer:X220 autocad trackpoint scrolling

Is there any solution to this problem out there? This is reasonably important for me.

Hi, I'm on a X61t and my trackpoint+middle-button scrolling doesn't work in a few applications like iTunes, GIMP, and MatLab.  I downloaded the latest drivers and they fixed Office 07, but I didn't notice any other changes. It appears that older drivers had an easy way to go in and change settings for individual applications, per http://www.lvlolvlo.net/2007/02/11/office-2007-on-a-thinkpad-ultranav-support-for-scrolling-fix/.  I don't have the folders and files they refer to. How can I fix this? Thanks,Neal

Hi guys, I'm Alex, newly subscribed user to your Thinkpad forum, and here to ask for your help (if possible) ! Here is what I'm facing right now on my old (but still working like a charm) W510 :Quite happy to move away from Windows 8, I recently accepted to make the upgrade to the newest Microsoft OS : windows 10 64bits. It didn't take long to get used to it and I haven't had any issues with the programs I am using daily. But... I am having troubles with my trackpoint scrolling method. On both Chrome and Edge browsers installed on my computer, scrolling is buggy/laggy/not smooth at all. Web pages seem to "stick" a bit to much which makes jumps every time you try to scroll with the trackpoint. On the touchpad it is better but not so good either. It is really not a big issue but it can drive you a bit crazy after some time... Surprinsingly, scrolling is great on the OS. The issue is only happening on some programs. After looking around on the web, I am pretty sure that the issue is coming from the UltraNav driver. Since everything was working great on 8.1, I decided to reinstall the old driver (UltraNav 16.2.19.14). And as expected, it worked ! Scroll was back to what it was before, but not working on Microsoft Edge. I am using Chrome so I didn't pay much attention to that anyway. But since Windows 10 doesn't let you choose the updates that are installed , the issue came back when Windows Updates automatically installed the supposedly "newest a... Hi,I recently got a Thinkpad T440s and I have two problems when using the trackpoint:1) When trying to right click, I like to hit the uppermost part of the trackpad (where it is slanted). However, this registers as a left click. Is there a way to change this (and if not could someone explain to me the rationale behind this)?2) Is there a way to enable middle clicking without 3rd party software? So far, I have only found this thread which suggests using TPMiddle. I just wanted to ask if that's still the way to go.Thanks

Answer:T440s: Trackpoint + right click and middle click

Did you experiment with the settings in the "ThinkPad" tab within the Mouse Properties dialog? (Tap <WinKey>, type "mouse" and choose the Lenovo UltraNav item that is found.) I've noticed that if both TrackPoint and TrackPad are active, it tries to intelligently swtich the location of the right click for you .. but not always what you had in mind!

Hello there, I have an issue with UltraNav TrackPoint while trying to scroll using the middle button. It seems Windows 10 are ignoring the middle button completely. I´ve tryied the solution I found here with the registry, but with no luck. I  remember the scrolling worked only for like two days after I purchased this repassed X230 tablet. After all the automatic Windows updates it stopped working. I tried uninstalling the driver and downloading fresh lenovo new one, but nothing... can someone here please help me? I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my Lenovo ThinkPad R61 model 8918, which has Alps TrackPad and TrackPoint. However it is well known problem that when the computer is awaken from suspend or hibernation it loose ability to scroll (in my case TrackPoint stop scrolling with middle button pressed). I tested over 7 different ALPS driver versions found on the Internet, but any of the does not have scrolling type 1 for TrackPoint (standard smooth scrolling with scrollbar cursor). On couple forums people wrote that ALPS drivers from late 2010 have the problems with loosing scrolling fixed. However Lenovo Support did not release any new version of the driver for Windows 7 for model 8918 (with Alps stuff). Is it possible that someone at Lenovo would take mercy on us, users of 8918 with Windows 7, and release newest drivers from ALPS with all the stuff related to ThinkPads trackpoints???

Answer:TrackPoint scrolling hangs after awake from suspend

I believe you need the UltraNav drivers, not the ALPS drivers.

I'm using the ultranav middle button to scroll (I live for this feature which is why I've been buying thinkpads since time immemorial) However, on the t460, scolling with the middle button/nubbin is painfully slow in Word 2007, and Adobe Acrobat/Reader is a nightmare. In Word its just slow and you have to use a lot of pressure on the nubbin (there appears to be no setting to change this). In Acrobat, it's agonizingly slow (in both Reader and Pro) and will "stick" on if you try to go to fast and just scrolling for multiple seconds after you release the button.  Stragely, the trackpad scrolling works fine in Word, though it is still bad in Acrobat.  In addition, the middle button scrolling will frequently slip and stop scrolling, sending the pointer to the bottom of the page.  Nubbin/middle button scrolling works (oddly) extremely well in Microsoft Edge... Please help! Middle button scrollig with the nubbin is the best feature on these machines.  Using: T460 Windows 10 64-bit with the latest drivers.

My question concerns middle-button-scrolling for the Trackpoint on the Yoga 260, which seems to use an Elantech device and driver. Most of the time when I try to use the middle button to scroll, it starts off trying to scroll horizontally, which I then have to overcome to scroll vertically. It takes a lot of time and makes it easy to overshoot. I've been playing around with registry settings and the INI file, but haven't been able to figure it out. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would be OK with disabling horizontal scrolling entirely. There's a thread about this on another Thinkpad here:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-13-E-and/ThinkPad-13-TrackPoint-Disable-horizontal... There's a thread with a fix for the Synaptics Trackpoint here:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/ThinkPad-Can-I-disable-TrackPoint-from-s...

I then went to adjust the  Scrolling Region  but it is grayed out. I tried checking and unchecking the "Enable One Finger Scrolling" box, clicking "Apply", rebooting the PC, etc multiple times.A search on the forum only returned issues with scrolling not working with some programs, but nothing related to this. The Edge Motion region box is also greyed out. I then logged in as Administrator (I'm the only user on this PC) and  the scrolling region can be adjusted there, just like I used to be able to do when logged in as a standard user. Thanks in advance!

Whenever I scroll using my SmartPad: either with the "Edge Scroll" or the "Two-Finger Scroll" or when I scroll using the TrackPoint+its middle button, my web browser zooms in/out. Hi all, I really like using the Trackpoint to scroll. But an increaing number of Web sites react to horizontal scrolling by jumping to other pages. So, for example, if I'm reading down a page -- and if I need to use the Trackpoint to scroll down as I'm reading -- if I'm not perfectly vertical when I pull down on the Trackpoint, the Web site detects it as a horizontal scoll, and I get whisked off to another page. I can't be the only person having this problem? Is there some way to disable the Trackpoint from scrolling horizontally without disabling it from scrolling vertically?

I enabled the "tap zones" feature in the Synaptics touchpad settings and configured the zones to right click and middle click. I notice that sometimes the zones stop working while tapping and navigating are still ok. It turns out that scrolling with the middle button and the trackpoint somehow prevents the tap zones from working.A quick fix is to move the cursor using the trackpoint, move it again using the trackpad, then the zones will function normally. However the fix isn't permanent.I hope that Lenovo / Synaptics will address this small issue in the next touchpad driver update.

Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point.  One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings).  The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?.  Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine. I'm using a brand new Yoga 13 (Window 8 Pro).  Clicking on the touchpad (not the touch screen) sometimes has issues.  Specifically, every once in a while, a single-click on the touchpad will result in double-click behavior. I'm not referring to tapping, but rather physical clicking (press, depress touchpad on the lower left). I disabled tap-to-click in case it was registering the tap, and then the click.  That didn't resolve the issue. I also increased the speed required (within Windows) for a double-click to the fastest (least time between clicks) possible.  That also didn't resolve the issue. It really seems like the touchpad, every once in a while, registers a double-click, like some sort of physical defect in the touchpad that presses, depresses, presses depresses immediately. Ideas?

Correct. "Folder Options" refers to Windows Explorer. The "folders" within a program, like WLM, are under the control of the program. However I noticed that my version of WLM (2009) behaves the way you want without the "Reading" pane turned on. If I turn it on then a single click shows the email in the reading pane. If I turn it off, it takes a double click to open the email to view it. The reading pane is controlled via the "Layout" Viewing option.

In windows explorer, when you click the left side menu folders, it automatically expands them and shows the subdirectories on the left side...in 2k, you click the folder and it lists content on the right, you double click the folder to expand its subfolers on the left. I really don't like the auto expand feature of xp, but I can't find a way to turn it off. I tried messing with the 'single click to expand folder contents' option in 'folder options' however that only affected the right side of the explorer window, not the left. Is there any way to turn this 'feature' off?

Recently (in the last month) my computer has started giving me a double click on a single click of the left button.  This is very irritating.
It does this with both, a USB Logitech Track Man Wheel and with a wireless HID mouse.
I have tried adjusting the settings for the mouse but that doesn't seem to have any effect.
I have AVAST antivirus.  I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, Malewarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot search and destroy, Super Anti-Spyware and Junkware Removal Tool.
I have updated all of my drivers and used Drive Booster 3.
When I click to close a window on Firefox it will double click and minimize the browser.
This problem is active in all of my programs that I run, not just the browser.
I have Windows Vista, 64 Bit on a Dell Inspiron laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions.
I think this has to be a software problem, but I don't know how to correct it or which software is involved..
Thank you

I've been looking for a solution for this problem for a while, and to no avail there is not anything online that has helped thus far.My problem has been going on for about a year now, and I don't really feel like paying people to take a look at my computer just to tell me that they have no idea what is wrong with it. The situation is that my mouse, for some odd reason, tends to respond like a double-click / multiple clicks when I only press the mouse button once. This problem originated with a Microsoft Intellipoint mouse, I thought that it was quite possibly the mouse that was dying out (As it was a couple years old) so I went out and bought a cheap optical mouse, as many people do when they don't want to buy a costly mouse for an older computer. So the mouse I have now is a ValGear (Purchased from Wal~Mart) mouse. It didn't fix the problem, but I wasn't too concerned with it as it was mostly just a minor problem. Now this problem is ever-present, not just randomly double-clicking everything I single-click but as I found out in another program when I clicked to zoom in it zoomed in approximately 4 times in this particular instance. So I finally figured it's time to look again see what may be causing the problem. The system I'm running is an older one, but I have updated it, keeping it fairly up to date and it still runs approximately as good as the brand-new lower end systems. Just a goofy phenomena that seems to be puzzling me. Each time I single click on a desktop icon, it acts like it was double clicked and opens the file/program. When single clicking on a scroll-bar to the right of a window, it acts like it was double clicked, traveling much further down the screen than expected.

I'm using Windows ME. My mouse is an IBM Scrollpoint II, 3-button mouse with a small scroll pivot-lever. Any assistance to solve this problem will be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Single mouse click acts like a double-click

Hi there Amaul,

One thing to check is go into the 'mouse properties' in the 'Control Panel' and under the 'Buttons' tab there will be an option for 'Files and Folders'. Make sure the 'double-click to open an item' is selected.

Hope this helps.

About a month ago my mouse started double clicking. Its random, like 20% of my clicks act as a double click.
Tested with logitech g9, steelseries sensei and razer naga, so its definitely not a hw issue. Did clean win install with the lastest drivers, firmwares, and win updates and its still persist.

Its driving me crazy so if someone got an idea go for it.
Thanks =)

Answer:Single click acts as a double click 20% of the time

Hello, there are various reports of such problems, typically last year. E.g.
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/i...3db8550?page=8

- a very long thread, seems comment around pg 7 may be of interest.. I've not read it all!

A few threads I found posted in tenforums had no answer.

It's not a problem I've experienced or seen reported for a long time. Which build are you running?

Info on my PC is below. In many windows such as those opened within Internet Explorer, a right mouse click on the right-hand scroll bar acts like a double click, making the scroll go down much further than wanted. It used to be that a single click on the empty area of the bar would make the screen go down only one screen height. It now goes down two. Please help as this is irritating.

Answer:Solved: Single click makes double click

If it happens everytime, there is a setting in windows, but if it's only sometimes, it might be time for a new mouse.

Many times when I single click on an item with my mouse, whether it be a program, a shortcut, or whatever, more often than not , it acts as a double click. When I double cliclk, it opens up the program twice more often than mot, also. I have the Folder options set up to double click so I don't know what's going on. I regularly run AdAdware, Spybot, and I have ZoneAlarm Suite running all the time.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I came up to a problem that I cannot solve. Using the Explorer (not IE but the plain explorer to organize folders and files) I cannot change the behaviour of an Active Desktop like in WinXP or others.

I am very used to this procedure: single click = mark an object / doubleclick = execute an object.

Unfortunately, the Explorer just uses the option single click = execute. I remembered the option in XP/Vista, that you can go to Extras -> folder options -> Select Elements and tick a radio button for the Active Desktop method or the classic method (execute via doubleclick). Just as described in the tutorial "Single-Click or Double-Click to Open an Item" within this forum.

I tried this, and now I'm getting nuts: The radio button is already put on the classic mode (execute by doubleclick, select by single click). The other option is grey, i.e. it cannot be selected.

I guess, there's some tick wrong in the registry or else, but I cannot find out which. Does anyone has an idea what can be done?

Answer:folder options / single-click or double-click

The checkbox/radio button option is under the View tab in the same dialog.

I am used to using external mouse with left hand, but using Trackpoint with right hand. However, in the UltraNav utility, when I swap the left/right button for external mouse, the Trackpoint is also affected by this swapping. What I want is external mouse for Left hand and Trancpoint for right hand. Howeve I can't set that for Trackpoint specifically. Can anybody help me on this? So many thanks!

Got a T440s Touch. Trackpad looks fine but the left side is slightly tilted compared to the right. Clicking the buttons at the bottom work and the right TrackPoint button at the top of the tochpad works, as does the centre scroll button, but the left one doesn't. The left button doesn't seem to click - can this be fixed easily? Have tried playing around with drivers, blowing compressed air into the trackpad, updating BIOS, enabling/disabling TrackPoint in the BIOS but all to no avail. Any ideas? If the worst comes to the worst I have an L540 - can I swap the trackpads over?

I got a slightly used X1 Carbon 34XX version (2013 model) recenetly. I have been using t430 for quite a long time now but now when I'm on X1 carbon I notice that the Left-key with the trackpoint is not registering properly..when I click on the area close to the scroll key, which is naturally where my finger presses, The key goes down to its seat but it misses registry and often creates problems when I drag items. I have to push it down with an extra force to make sure the key wont miss. The same key works very responsive when I click on the other end (left end) of the key. But near the scroll key it feels as if something underneath the key has shifted or something...I tried tapping it, hitting it, pulling it upwards and pressing it hard but none of that helped. I was wondering if anyone could provide me help on how to remove this key and clean whats underneath and fix it. I know how to remove the keyboard but not sure how to get to this key. Thank you

hello,  I was wondering if anyone know how to fix this little (annoying) problem I have with the T61.Basically, I use the trackpoint more than the touchpad and therefore I use the two trackpoint buttons right below the space bar. My problem is, the left trackpoint button makes this *click* sound every time I press on it.  The right button is perfect and is extremely quiet, but the left button sounds like plastic is snapping every time I press on it.  its almost like the button is caught against something and makes the click/snap noise when you press on it. any suggestions? its really annoying to have such a quiet keyboard and laptop, only to have it ruined by this loud snap/click. thanks!

Answer:snap noise from trackpoint left button

Hello, Have you checked with Lenovo support?  Perhaps the keyboard is defective and needs to be replaced. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

At certain relatively slow speeds the scrolling jumps huge leaps regularly (probably after evey page or so). It's very bad with Chrome and Windows explorer, not so bad but noticeable in Thunderbird. I have set the scrolling to 1 line. My Synaptics drivers are the newest 10/04/2015. Also the treshold to start scrolling with middle button and trackpoint is very high - can't be that hard to make it smooth, so you could scroll very slowly? Please fix this soon... it's impossible to live with.

I just bought a new T 510 and found the computer's right ear sound is lower than the left one. Is this a software or hardware problem? How to fix it?Thanks!!

Answer:T510 Left/Right ear has different sound.

So you're using the internal speakers, or headphones? Also, do you have the balance set properly? Go into the Volume Control and click on the 'Speakers' icon. From there, you should then go to 'Levels' in the properties and select 'Balance'. Make sure the values for Left and Right are equal. An interesting thing to note about Lenovo's implementation of the Volume Up/Down keys are weird and push the balance off by 1 sometimes (so you'll sometimes have values of 18/19 and then at the next increment 19/19.)If you're talking about the right speaker sounds different from the left one, that may just be a music-related phenomenon or something else entirely.

I have upgraded my old T410i with some extra RAM and an SSD. The system works great and fast. There is one problem. I have noticed that although my trackpoint and right and middle button (above trackpad) work like the should the left button (above trackpad) doesn't. I thought this has to work like the left mouse button or the left button under the trackpad but it doesn't. I have the latest bios version 1.45 installed and the latest drivers. I have also tried to detach the keyboard and attached it again. After that I tried to disable the trackpoint in the bios and enable it again. This doesn't help either. Maybe it is a defective key because all the other functions and keys do work. Is there something overlook?

I know it's possible on other makes of laptop so why does lenovo disable the single finger scrolling options in the touchpad configuration ? I have seen this on various different modelsEssentially its just a customised version of the standard Elantech software, you can easily enable it with Acer machines using Elan touchpads for example or Hp  ones with a synaptics touchpad and even on Dell ones using a slight workaround so how come lenovo have the options removed ?I personally don't mind so much but my parents being older struggle to use 2 fingers, having the option to enable it for them would have been a big benefit. As it stands they may well be returning their laptop for an Hp oneIt just seems like a pointless customisation of a perfectly good driver, I could possibly understand it for windows 8.1 with the charms and edge swipe etc but all that has gone with windows 10 anyway so why not have a different version of the driver for use with windows 8.1 and let windows 7 or 10 users be able to use their touchpad in the way they prefer

I've got Windows XP Professional with SP3. About 3 weeks ago my computer started taking a single mouse click as a double click. I've gone into control panel/folder options and made sure it is set up correctly there ("double click to open item")

Any of suggestions??

I've got McAffee virus protection and it is up to date. I ran a full scan and nothing was detected. For Grins and Giggles I did a "CHKDSK /R" but this did not help either.

Thanks,

The same touchpad that selects links without being clicked on, also randomly requires a double click or a single click, or a light touch anywhere on the screen, or a serious hard tap on the left corner.   It is not consistant.  Can it be adjusted or disabled?

I've just contacted Lenovo support about this issue - and am sending the machine back for repair.  Symptoms:* No sound from speakers - though sounds works through headphones.* Visible bubble in plastic of cover over left speaker (wasn't there when I first received laptop)* Removing top plastic case reveals hardened melted plastic just above left speaker* Discoloring (rust-like) of the speaker head* Speaker head is "crispy" to the touch. Suspected cause:* Faulty speaker* Speaker wires are taped to copper CPU heat sink (I dunno how much heat transfer is possible through insulation + wire) Out of curiosity, how many other people have had this problem?  Which models?  Any ideas what causes this? I've read accounts that the overheating happened while the machine was off but plugged into AC power.  This raises the suspicion that maybe the always-on USB port is drawing power (therefore heat) which cannot be dissipated when power (therefore fan) is off.

I am using Windows 7-64 bit. Problem also occurs in Outlook in mail - can't select a different email by left clicking. If I turn the machine on and off eventually it clears up; sometimes it seems to just clear up by waiting. Very strange! I thought it might be a virus and took it to a shop (I've had the machine), but the tech said it didn't look like a virus. Symantec 360 doesn't seem to "think" so either, as I ran a scan and all it picked up were cookies. So, it is either hardware or SW

Hello there, I've been having a problem that's been persisting for a while now. I couldn't find any solution online, so I'm hoping to find an answer here. I own an IdeaPad P500 Notebook installed with Windows 8. A little while after purchasing this model, I've been getting the problem of my touchpad's left-click button occassionally functioning like if I right-clicked. The problem kept persisting, so I looked into downloading the touchpad driver for this model. That fixed the issue for a bit, but then it returned again. I attempted to re-download the driver, but that didn't help any. I've gone for a while living with it, since I can get by with most activities with it just being a minor annoyance. With some things, however, it becomes noticeably bothersome. The frequency of it seems to increase the longer the laptop is on, as well. With the lack of information pertaining to this issue, I'm beginning to think I need to send it in for repairs. Is that what I need to do? Or is there some way I can fix this manually? Please respond to me as soon as you're able, and I thank you in advance.

Answer:(IdeaPad P500 Laptop) Left-click button randomly acts like a right-click.

hi UnKnown_Drive,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

This is a weird activity on the touchpad and it looks like there's a short that's trigerring the right clicker. Can you try to boot into Safe Mode and observe the PC.

If the problem persists, there's possibility that the touchpad is defective and you need to contact lenovo for service.

Let me know your findings.

Cheers.

Hey so this is a strangely specific problem. For some websites I cannot click some drop-down menus with my cordless mouse, the trackpad, or trackpoint buttons, but am able to when I press on the touchscreen. Same with some online games I used to play like: http://shape.method.ac/ In the website above, I can't click and drag where it says to "Drag to get started' (For anyone else maybe experiencing the same problem) with my mouse, but pressing and dragging on the touchscreen works just fine.Stylus doesn't work either.Other items are still clickable.I can open and close windows just fine, most links work, but it's these graphic elements that I can't interface with. I can't tell if this is an OS problem, browser, or something like HTML5 causing it. It happens consistently though. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi,
I am after some help. My laptop has decided to reverse the right click and left click functions, ie: if I left click it now does not select but instead brings up a menu (which the right click button should and used to do!) I've tried holding down both buttons (as suggested by a friend) by this has no effect and I can't see any options to reverse the functions in the 'mouse properties' menu... and ideas please!
Thanks
