Preferred Solution: Lost data from recovery partition

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Lost data from recovery partition

First, some info:What anti-malware program are you using? Also, did you create restore disks when you first used the system? What free software did you download and install (the name of the program that keeps creating the ad)?I'm assuming that 'Q:' just doesn't show up in 'Computer', correct? Can you tell me what happens when you go into Start>Search for 'Computer Management'>Storage>Disk Management? Do you see 3 blue boxes in total, and is one of them labeled 'Lenovo Recovery'?Finally, what version of Windows are you using, and on what kind of Thinkpad?

After 2 installations, you are wasting your time trying to recover anything. It is all gone. Hopefully, you had everything backed up, right?

I purchased a new Motherboard to upgrade my computer and new SSD drive. I installed Windows 7 again on my new SSD. I had a 3TB Seagate Drive that had 3 partitions. One partition had Windows 7 and system files. The other two had data. Now, one of my data partitions shows as Unallocated. The old Windows 7 partition is totally accessible as well as one data partition. I need to recover the data on the drive from the unallocated partition. I've tried Seatools and EaseUs partition tool. I'm going to try DiscInternals next.

Does anyone have suggestions on recovering a partition that is now unallocated? I imagine the data is still there but the partition isn't being recognized by Windows 7.

Thanks

Answer:Lost Partition - Now Unallocated - Data Recovery

Try a simple partition undelete using Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help.

If that doesn't work try data recovery software.

Your data should always be backed up externally or to the cloud, using a modern method like Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums

Hi, I cannot find my original x60 tablet cds. And I am installing win xp pro now on a new hd I just put in. I'd like keep a partition for recovery (like the original one in system). Can I just make a separate partition in xp installation? How big should I give to it? And how should I make partitions if I want to install multiple OS? (XP and Vista) with recovery for both? Thanks!Message Edited by saja on 01-01-2009 07:24 AM

Answer:lost my original x60 cds, how to reserve a partition for recovery partition?

you can't reserve a recovery partition in the normal sense if you don't have the Lenovo recovery media. If you want to do a dual boot you will have to partition your hdd into two drives.  You can partition your hdd by using an aftermarket software like PartitionMagic, etc.

I bought lenovo thinkpad X230 in January 2013. I made a recovery USB on a 16 GB pendrive. I bought a windows 8 pro upgrade offer as well. But i did not install it at that time and kept it for future use.  About a week ago I installed windwos 8 on my system in dual boot mode making a partition on primary HDD.everything went ok with only problem that my windows 8 did not activate. I was ok with that. But when i tried F11 recovery function, it was not working. So i tried factory reset through recovery USB i created earlier. It opened up and said BOOTMGR missing. Later with some research I realized that i didnt make USB active (bootable) before burning it.(Though this is ridiculous considering, tools provided must have done that. Like when you make windows bootable.) With all this(and me panicking), I tried backing up my data with image i created through R & R tool. After back up, I lost my recovery partition on HDD. And I guess i accidentally deleted System_DRV partition as well.  Though my computer is running fine. I need a bootable media. it would be great if you can provide it. Also if you can restore my comp to factory setting with recovery partition, it would be great. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Thinkpad X230- No recovery partition, lost System_DRV and have no recovery media

Hi, You can make bootable media (CD, USB stick or USB HDD) for using with your Factory Recovery Data USB stick.Just launch Lenovo Factory Recovery Disks app from Control Panel, deselect Data media creation, select needed Boot media type. Note you'll need less then 300 mb free space on media.

I installed Ubuntu GNU/Linux in my 3000 N100 0768GZQ laptop and deleted the partition in which i had installed Vista using fdisk. However, fdisk also deleted the Lenovo rescue and recovery partition. Not realizing this i created 2 new partitions in the free space. Now I want to install Vista in one of these partitions and I don't have a Lenovo Rescue and Recovery drive or the recovery CDs. Please help me.

Answer:Lost Lenovo Rescue and recovery partition in 3000 N100 0768GZQ have no recovery disks, please help

You can either get a hold of Vista installation disks and install it manually, or call Lenovo support and ask for recovery disks. They may charge you for the disks as you are supposed to create your own recovery disks.

I know this may sound stupid and I know I was...

But it was the first time that I had to run the recovery disk and I moved all my important documents to the second partition (E:) and then ran the recovery disk, thinking that it would only format the first partition (C:)...
Well I was wrong.

Can anyone please help me with a way to get the information on my second partition (E:) back?

Answer:Lost of data after using recovery disc - How to get back the data

Hi mate?

I?ve got bad news for you?
The HDD has been formatted by Recovery DVD and this means that all available partitions have been erased!

I?m sorry but I don?t see any options to get back the data :(

Of course there are many companies which are able to rescue the data on damage HDDs of after HDD formatting but in my opinion the costs would be immense?

COULD NOT FIND RECOVERY ENVIRONMENT
(I know it's a redundant thread but I think I'm having a different scenario)
Specs: (nothing's changed except I did reinstall win8.1)
- win8.1 x64 single languange
- 1TB HDD
■THE SCENARIO■
There was a time when I want to resize my drive C to smaller partition:
I used Easus Partion Manager to do so (to dumb I was). After rebooting my system could not start
The BSOD showed up:
RECOVERY
PC needs repair (blah3x)
Error code: 0x000225
I was able to manage to repair and I came back up fine using a tutorial in youtube
using bcdboot C:\Windows /s (any drive letter): /s uefi
At this point, I downloaded a new copy of windows8.1 SL, thru "mediacreationtool" (as a legit copy i suppose)
and then I reinstalled using the ISO from MS, now I'm totally OK, at least at the moment.

■THE ISSUE■
Seems like everything's working as it is now, but as soon as I try to press F9 upon boot up, same error popup
Error Code: 0x000225, and again I got used to doing the bcdboot method.
NOW, this "Restore" partition the size of 20GB, and appeared and it had something in it (some files I think).

This wasn't there before and after reinstallation of win8.1 SL. IT ONLY appeared when I pressed F9 then I repaired
it using bcdboot.

■MISSION IMPOSSIBLE■
If there's a way that I could restore my notebook pc back to day one: Or am i that close? (close enough)
If this could be fixed? I know its risky but I will take it as a n... Read more

Hi
I used CLEAN in DISKPART and i delete all partitions of my only disk.
Now i dont have any OS on my laptop and i want recover partition by "Partition Wizard" or "Test Disk" that can boot from CD but i fear that this bootable program overwrite on my only disk to load itself and some part of my data will be lost.
Am i right?
I must apologize because of my weak language skills.

Answer:May i lost my data in recovery by bootable recovery programs?

It depends on how valuable your data was and much you want to spend to get it back. The best chance you would have of retrieving your data would be to take your hard drive to a professional recovery service, explain to them the exact steps you did to delete your partitions and pay the professionals to retrieve your data.

I have successfully - many, many years ago - recovered a deleted partition using software that I purchased, but I can't remember exactly which software it was - I only used it once.

Software such as this:
Free Partition Recovery Software - EaseUS Partition Recovery.

Is meant to be booted from CD/DVD/USB and not write to the hard drive so that it can read possible markers left on the hard drive to indicate where the partitions used to be and restore them.

My daughter managed to wreck Vista on her laptop. Trouble now is, that she can't find her recovery disk, and formatted the whole c: drive. Is there any way she can get the Os from somewhere, as she still has her serial number..good job it's stuck to the bottom of the lappy.

Answer:Re: lost recovery disc and recovery partition

As I see, you have no more options as :

1 Order [Recovery disk|https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx] from Toshiba for money and wait for 2 weeks
2 Get Windows copy to install. All Toshiba drivers/utilities you can download from [Toshiba Driver Page|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp]
If you need assistance in driver installation order, can help you

The product key she has belongs to original recovery image you got with your notebook and it is not some ?universal key? that you can use with every OS installation.

I was running win 7 with 4 partitions , thought to upgrade to win 10. While installing it didn't allowed me to install. I thought i can run diskpart clean on one partition, selected one volume and ran clean command, but it still cleaned all the partitions. Long story short, I cannot boot my OS until I install OS on freshly created single partition. I was told to use partition recovery apps like partition and mount software, Do I have to install OS on it anyways and once OS is installed, instal the partition and mount software for the recovery?

Answer:How can i recover lost partition and data in it

NO! Don't do anything that involves the hard drive at this point. You will need to use another computer to create a disk recovery boot disk from a recovery program and use that to boot the computer with the affected hard drive and then let the program do its thing.

This is the program I have used in the past, and I think Brink recommends it too:

You can try this one for free, the company is a pretty good company, but I haven't used this software:

Hi AllI had a problem and had to reformat my hard drive using the supplied recovery disks. This worked ok. I had been using Roxio Back up my PC for backups to a external hard drive.I went to my 250gig external to retrieve my backed up data but only found a 3.4gig partition put there when the recovery was done.I bought Prosoft Data Rescue PC3 and scanned the drive and found a FAT32 3.4gig partition and the remainder of the drive as NTFS unallocated. But all my missing backed up files were there in the unallocated area. The Roxio Backup my PC qic files were there at 75gig. I bought another external and when trying to copy the qic files they are splitting up into many files. Back up my PC fails when trying to use these split files and can't rejoin them.So I bought Partition Magic and scanned the drive and tried to restore the old partition but in the unallocated area it found nothing to undelete. So it appears the new 3.4gig partition has overwritten my drive letter.I have 2 questions.1. Is it possible for me to remove the unwanted partition and reallocate the unallocated areas to restore my data.or 2. Is there a way I can copy the qic files without them splitting into many files.I am nervous dealing with this drive as it contains my only backups of 18000 pictures. Please help.Thank you Paul

Any Ideas were I might find mydocuments or outlook email data after a restore using the none distructive restore from the HP partiton on a HP pavilion 630n. I had run AVG which found many viruses include system files which could not be healed so I used the nondestructive restore feature on that model. After I had run AVG I did a reboot and the computer did a check disk which proceeded to clean up the disk and indexes. No more Doc. or email.

Answer:HP lost data after restore from HP partition

Welcome to TSG....

You can take a look and see if you can find any directories that look like ones that this data should be in like documents and settings with a number after it that might be write protected and if found there might be your old data.

One thing you might consider in the future is baking up all of the important data on a regular basis. Backing up saves a lot of lost information.....

Greetings

Let me try and gather my wits and explain what is happening as I'm nearing a heart attack.

My computer had been turned off for a while and was not in use - as I was away on a trip for several months. I got back, turned it on and my computer booted into Startup Repair. It took 10 hours to finally tell me that nothing was wrong except that the system volume on the disk is corrupt. Once I clicked finish, the system reboots right back into the windows startup repair. Odd, but this stuff happens right?

So I booted up with another bootable partition on an alternate HDD within the same computer to see if I could recover the files. It booted fine, but when I took a look at the HDD causing me problems I do not see the partition where all my files are located. There were folders there, but things do not look right. I opened my User folder and files seemed to have vanished. I've never seen this before and it feels like a cruel joke.

Disk Management only shows one partition. It shows that 1.9TB or 2TB are free. This is WRONG as I have used most of the file space on the HDD.

So right now I have the HDD in a USB Thermaltake tether and I'm running "Phoenix Windows Data Recovery."

While I thought I had backed up years worth of work ........ finding out that I hadn't ....... This is certainly a wake up call and I'm praying that I will be able to get these files. If all efforts fail, I will certainly be sending this drive to a professional data recovery.

If you ha... Read more

I have resized a partition using partition magic 7 on win XP (home).
The partition is active. I have a backup folder that contains all of my data from the drive but is not accessible. There is a System Volume Information folder that has appeared. Windows reports the drive has as much data on the drive as before the resize.
Scandisk does not help.
Defrag shows the files and will do its job but still there is no access to the files.

Hello friends!

Now, whatever I am going to say may be a little complicated but please be patient and help me out.

I am on a Win 7 platform with two HDD. The first HDD contains the OS and the second had three partitions.

All that I will be talking is about the 2nd HDD that contains all my data.

Out of the three partitions, first was empty, second was full and third was also full. So I merged 1st and the 3rd so that I can have some extra space in the third. As soon as I merged it, it said that it wil convert it into Dymanic Drive to which I said ok. Later as I didnt like the feel of it, I deleted the 1st which also automatically deleted my 3rd partition. That was where everything went wrong. I again created it and did a quick format but now all my data is gone.

Now guys, please help me to get my data back. I havent copied any thing to that drive till now.

Thank you.

I have Windows XP SP3 that would not boot to the desktop on a 'Normal' boot. The system has 3 SATA HDD & 1 SATA DVD-RW on 3 Red SATA ports on the Motherboard & 1 Black SATA port on the mother board. I apologize, but sadly I do NOT remember if the DVD drive or one of the HDD was in the Black SATA port. I'm not REALLY sure I understand the difference, but...

The system would boot up 'almost' to the desktop, so I was able to boot up in Safe Mode. Once I could get to the desktop I looked at the System log in Event Viewer & it showed that the controller was reporting drive errors on Hard Drive 0 (NOT the boot drive). It was happening so much that it was virtually filling the Event Viewer & making it hard to see anything else in there & kept the system from being able to boot to the desktop. It never made it to where it said Windows was loading my personal settings. I have never seen a NON-boot drive keep an XP system from being able to boot up.

Once I made it to where I could see the Event Viewer messages, I shut the system down & disconnected the "bad" drive & restarted the system. It then booted up fine, but when I looked at the event Viewer is STILL showed Hard Drive 0 errors. I thought that it might be a bad cable, so I shut the system down again & connected the SATA cable that was connect to Hard Drive 0 & moved exchanged it with the one on Hard Drive 1 & booted the system.

I looked in the Event ... Read more

Hi.

Alright I got a new Seagate 250GB drive and I am trying to transfer data that is from a 120GB WD drive that has lost its partition formatting.

I have tried to do it with PC Inspector File Recovery, but while the program finds the data is not transferring it over. The progress bar for "saving to" never changes and I ran this since 6pm yesterday and there was no change when I stopped it several minutes ago. Now all I want to do is get the data from one drive to the other, and then fix the partition problem for the other drive and if the data is on the Seagate, I do not care about reformatting the WD.

But step one the data, am I doing something wrong? Both drives are USB on Windows XP with all the most recently fixes installed.

Thank you.

Hi, I want to know about the data and partition recovery from my hard disk. Actually, I was trying to recover data from my SD card but mistakenly, the logical partitions got lost and remained as unallocated, only C:/ drive was available. After that, I tried to create partitions from unallocated drive. Yes, i did it. But now question is will  I be able to recovery the data which was lost from earlier partition. Please help me with the proper solution beacause I have lost important documents and files.

Answer:Data and partition recovery

Hi,You will need data rcovery program and will have to run it in deep scan or surface scan and the programs will probably recover files which are from well known formats. (This necessary because by creating partitions you have formatted the drive) There are many freeware programs which will probably achieve this, look out that many say they are free and after scanning will only let you recover a certain amount of data. The surface scan can take a long time nad you can let it run a whole night. Here is a site I was just looking at which talks about these programs:https://www.lifewire.com/free-data-recovery-software-tools-2622893 I would try Pandora from, what I was reading, it has the ability to perform surface scan and recognize files. Install it on c: drive and recover data to an external hard drive since if you recover to your partitions it will overwrite the data on it and will no longer be recoverable. There are also some good paid versions of software. Let me know if you need further help,David

wasn't sure where to put this thread. Is there anyway to recover a partition and data on the partition if the partition was deleted. Then the drive was partitioned again and data was written to the drive. I have a copy of Hiren's 9.5 does that have any recovery tools that can help.
I would appreciate any help.

Answer:Data Recovery partition

I used GetDataBack with good recovery or my data but I break it out as soon as its needed. The writing to the hard drive before you attempt a restore can cause a lot of data loss. Heres the link..........

I have a U430Touch, from which I accidentally overwrote the recovery and Windows 8.1 partitions.  Using recovery software, I have successfully been able to recover both the Windows 8.1 partition and the recovery partition (and backed up to external drive). Now my problem is I cannot boot into the recovery partition or the Windows partition.  I can only boot into a LiveUSB. Any ideas on getting either of these partitions to boot?

Answer:Lost Recovery Partition

I've realized I also recovered LRS_ESP, the Lenovo Recover EFI system partition.  This was not recognized by the UEFI firmware, basically when I hit the "Novo" button and went to recover, it would just load the default boot loader.  This was because the GUID on the LRS_ESP partition was wrong. After correcting the GUID (per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table, at the bottom), the System Recovery option now attempts to boot into the recovery system but fails.  I get a blue Windows screen with a face and error code 0x000021a.  It is my understanding that this error is due to issues regarding the boot process for Windows, so it is perhaps related to the locations of the recovery files. Will keep updated in case this is useful for anyone.

Hi...

I was fixing the partitions on my 500 GB hardrive...since vista's disk management tool pretty much sucks, it only let me create 3 partitions (primary)...i already had 2 logical drives but i needed a 3rd...n there was no way for doing it...

i tried parition magic...but only works on XP...so i created a 20 GB primary partition n installed XP...still partition magic didnt work...I searched around and realized that if a windows vista partition is present, partitoin magic wont open...

so i deleted the partition to which vista is installed...still didnt work...

so cut it short, i decided to go without creating that extra partition...

but somehow along the process, an 80 gb partition disappeared!!! i thought if i install vista it would 're-appear'...

i did that...to no avail!

if i go to disk management, theres an 80 gb towards teh end of the timeline that says 'free space' (in lime color)

HOW did this happen!?? im almost 100% sure i did NOT delete that partition my self.... (and even if I did, it would give 'unallocated space' not 'free space'

IS THERE ANY HOPE my dad can be recovered!?? it was 80 gb worth of data!!

thanks a lot...

any help much appreciated...

Answer:80 GB partition lost (became 'free space') HOW!? possible to recover data!?

If you formated over the partition, it'd be very hard to get anything back much. perhaps if you'd only deleted it then yeah. but as it is, you can consider all that lost. soz

Hi,

I'm in desperate need of some help. My PC at work decided to shutdown each time it booted up and displayed the desktop it would display a message along the lines on 'Microsoft has detected an error and will shutdown...', then shutdown.

The machine was taken away by the IT guys who at first thought it was a memory issue, I was then told it was a hard drive fault and that they tried to clone the hard drive to a new hard drive but some of the windows system files were corrupt, so they gave me a new hard drive with and loaded a fresh install of Windows 7 and set my faulty hard drive as the slave drive.

The slave drive originally had XP on it.

The problem I have is trying to recover the files from the slave drive, although the drive and structure look in tact the user profile doesn't appear at all, I've unhidden files within 'user' but it just shows up as 'default' with just a bunch of empty folders.

Is there anyway I can recover my profile and more importantly recover my files?

Many thanks

As your IT guys have tried, I would say NO.

I was given a laptop recently with the task of saving some files from the hard drive. The laptop won't boot, so I connected the drive to my computer via an eSATA dock. It shows up as RAW. When I run a partition repair tool, such as Partition Wizard, it correctly identifies the drive's capacity and amount of data. The drive is given a letter and shown that it is NTFS, however, when I try to access the drive from Explorer, I get the prompt to format it.

So, would something like Recuva work to access the files, or do I need something more "intense"?

Hi DeaconFrost,

Why not try TestDisk? It may be able to rewrite the partition table if it can find.
I have only run a mock trial here Regain a lost drive using Test Disk - An Illustrated Guide ( deleting the partition table from a working drive and then successfully rewriting it with TestDisk).

If there's nothing important on it (Volume #3, I assume), use Disk Manager to delete the partition, create a new one again and then format it.  Then connect it internally and do the same, if necessary.  You can also connect it internally and use the Seagate Seatools to initialize it.

The HDD died one morning for what seemed to be no reason. I sent the drive out and had most of my data recovered including the recovery partition. I purchased a used but good HDD as a replacement and am trying to restore the system. I have tried several ways but cannot get the system to recognize the recovery enviroment to start. I believe the original system was either Windows 8 or 8.1. I have a Windows 8.1 full install dvd and tried installing Windows and doing a recovery that way but no luck. I know the HDD is good because I was able to install and use Windows 8.1. I put the data from the recovery partition on a usb but could not get that to boot. I used diskpart to create a system reserved partition and a Windows partition and put the recovery data on the active system reserved partition. The computer boots to recovery but with error code: 0xc000000f. A required device isn't connected and can't be accessed. I found someone said to rename the winUCRD.wim file to winre.wim so I tried that on the usb and on the HDD. It looks like it is going to boot on the HDD but comes up with a message that says "You are not able to restore this system with the media". I downloaded the Windows ADK and am thinking I might need to extract files from all the .wim files but there must be an easer way. Does anyone know how to get this data from the recovery partition to start the HP recovery environment? Do I need to extract the winre.wim file or something? I am a ... Read more

Hello,

I am having a problem with my 400GB HDD not displaying correctly - it displays as 127GB - in a new install of Windows XP on a seperate drive.

My original setup was as follows:

* 400GB SATA HDD with Windows XP as the Operating System plus Data - Single Partition - NTFS.
* 300GB SATA HDD with purely data - Single Partition - NTFS.

I bought a new HDD today (SATA 320GB) and installed it in the PC. The original XP install saw it was installed and offered formatting options from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management - no formatting options were taken.

I then installed Windows XP (non-SP2 install, SP2 has been installed afterwards along with Video Card and Motherboard drivers) to the new HDD without removing the old drives first.

The current state of the HDD are as follows:

* 300GB with purely data made it through unscathed and has all the data on it and is detected by the new install.
* 400GB drive is now showing as an unformatted 127GB drive under Windows XP.
* 320GB drive that Windows XP was newly installed to is also showing as 127GB but is formatted (NTFS) and has Windows XP installed - this I understand can be resized, but would prefer to get the data from the 400GB back before doing anything.

I've loaded an Ubuntu LiveCD and gnome partition manager shows the space on the 400GB HDD as unallocated, the 320GB having an NTFS partition of 127GB and the 300GB as NTFS (Full, as it should be showing).

I am unsure right now if all the ... Read more

Bought an ASUS UL30A laptop a few years ago with Windows 7 OEM. There is no drive for CD's or DVD's and I do not have an external optical drive. The default setup is 485GB worth of space on the SATA for the OS and a 15GB recovery partition.
Over time I noticed that some programs (or portions of them anyway) were showing up in the recovery partition and if memory serves me, almost the entire 15GB of space on that partition was used. Now when I click on properties of the Recovery partition it shows that only 107MB of space is used and 14.8GB is free space. I have absolutely no idea what happened to all of the 'programs' and other data that was on that partition but it's as if that partition was formatted (which I did not do).
My basic question is this: This OEM notebook with no recovery discs and no way of playing them has 107MB of data and it's for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. One other .exe (SIW.exe) is in a Programs folder, but that's it. I run CCleaner every week just to get rid of cookies, clean the cache of the browsers, etc., but that's it. No program runs on a maintenance schedule and am at a complete loss as to what happened to that recovery partition (nothing was lost on the partition that contains the OS). Any ideas on what MAY have happened and is there anything I can do to get the Recovery OS data back? Though I do not have discs, I do have the following info from small keyfinder program:

i brought ideapad Z570, apparently the main (OS) drive was around 652 GB, while the other drive (backup drive) was 30 Gb approx... I recreated partitions (without affecting partition structure table and boot partition and hidden partition) to get around 200 GB three drives a 30GB partition. But OKR recreates all those partition back to two and deletes all the info on other drives too.Is it possible to edit the info of hidden partition data so that it creates multiple drives and format only one drive (system drive) without recreating all the partition(Editing /OKRBACKUP/factory/MBR.okr file or any other files too) By this, we can create multiple partition, OKR will still work and the data on other drives will be saved too, meaning a customised one key recovery feature...

Answer:modifying the one key recovery partition data

You say it recreated the partitions back to the original format? Did you boot of factory discs to do this or just restore from the hidden partition? There are some other discussions on this subject http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-and-Z-series/V570-Has-too-many-partitions-Can-I-nuke-one-I... http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-and-Z-series/new-disk-partioning-and-one-key-recover-featu... In my case OKR left my newly created partition (created after shrinking the OS volume) alone, but it wiped the contents. As for modifying the behaviour of OKR in this respect... I have no idea, maybe but I doubt you can modify the contents of the *.okr files to achieve this easily if at all, though.

Hello. I'm going to go ahead and appologize if I'm a bit unclear anywhere in this post as I'm not 100% certain how to phrase what happened. Also if this isn't in the proper forum.
A few days ago I got the following alerts from avast.
3/4/2010 9:22:41 PM 1267755761 SYSTEM 1216 Sign of "Win32:Rootkit-gen [Rtk]" has been found in "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\Npfs.SYS" file.

I clicked delete when they popped up and proceeded to attempt to restart my computer in safe mode to run mbam to get rid of an "antivirus" program that installed itself on my computer. When I tried to restart though I kept getting an "Invalid form id" error and had to do a system recovery. It allowed me to keep all of my old information in a seperate partition of my harddrive though and make a new partition labeled "recovery". My question is, is there any way for me to fix the problem on the old partition and allow me to access all of my old information again? Also after I do that is there a way I can delete the new partition?

It's a long story, but hear me out.

So one day, while fixing my friend's PC, I asked him to lend me his external HD to backup his files from the PC. While trying to use the external HD (all plugged in), it detected it but did not show in the My Computer section. After researching a bit on the Internet, I were to go to Computer Management and initialize the disk. And so I did, thinking it wasn't harmless or anything.

And that's where the problem kicks in.

After initializing it, and heading to the drive, it asks me to format the HD. Apparently, my friend said that his sister's files (portfolios...) are in the HD so we tried plugging back in her sister's Mac laptop and it did not initialize the HD properly. Tried to repair and failed. I began to panic, so I rushed back home to find any solution into getting the data back.

I've tried a few data recovery programs, and some of them did the trick. HOWEVER, certain files are found corrupted (ex. .avi, .mp4, .mov files not opening properly), some .jpeg files contain grey/green areas, distorted images (corrupted?), and so forth. Is there any chance I can fix these files or is it impossible to fix it? The data recovery programs tell me it's the hard drive's problem (bad sectors, etc.), so is it possible to undo the 'initializing' I did from the very beginning? Should I use some programs to recover the bad sectors and try using the data recovery program again?

I feel really bad for my friend's sister, since she literally c... Read more

I had two partitions at my HD (Satellite L30-114).

I used the Toshiba recovery Cd to restore windows at my laptop. The CD did not offered me any Full or Expert modes as written here http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ350072001GR01.htm It just recovered without any input from my side!

After recovery, Windows does not see my second partition. I used disk management utility and it says there are 17 GB of unassigned disk space (this is my second Partition!).

Can and how can I restore it?

Tx a lot!

Answer:Partition lost after recovery - Satellite L30

Hi

It seems that the L30 was delivered with a new version of recovery cd.
I think the Recovery procedure is a little bit different as the old one with the 2 different recovery modes (standard and expert)

I know a little bit about the new recovery procedure because a friend of mine bought a new Satellite with this recovery CD. He asked me for the notebook installation and we have checked it.

It seems that you have to press the ?Setting? button after choosing the language.
If you don?t use the ?setting? button for the configuration so the recovery procedure will delete and erase everything on the HDD. I think you didn?t configure the settings and therefore all partitions were deleted.

Unfortunately I think there is no much to do. You partition was deleted and it?s not possible to bring back the lost data.

Have you got a clean install of XP now? If so, run windows update and ensure you have all necessary updates then get something like Drive Image or Ghost and you can create your own recovery partition.

If you can't get into the Recovery Partition, HP offers a replacement. With the partition it takes about a half hour to restore the OEM to its original condition. If you have to order the replacement, count on eight hours plus all the restoring of backup and program replacement times.

I m attaching some Screenshots with this post..please help me..thanks

Answer:Lost my HDD partition after windows recovery.

Try downloading and installing Minitool Partition Wizard Home Edition (free) along with the ISO for standalone bootable CD and burn it to CD.

Then boot to the CD and use its "partition recovery wizard" to see what it makes of your hard drive. If the original partitions can be discovered and recovered, let it do it.

In the future, taking regular periodic "system image" backups to say an external USB 3.0 drive with Macrium Reflect (free) for at least your "boot drives" (i.e. "system reserved" where Boot Manager lives, and C where Windows lives) is the minimum backup protection you should be running.

f course you should also be backing up your irreplaceable data on C and other partitions regularly, so as not to be exposed to ANY type of unexpected disaster.

Hi,
Actually i saved data in partition, then after added bitlocker security.
I have password and key also.
Then I unlocked it for sometime, Due to my friend mistake, he deleted entire data from drive (which was enabled for bitlock). Data was huge so it just deleted without going to recyclebin.
So now i can recover data with DATA RECOVERY TOOL from partition.
But Its encrypted. bcuz in that drive data was encrypted.
So when i try to access its marked as not read (encrypted).

Hi, my question concerns an HP Pavillion Desktop with Windows XP Home Edition Operating System. About a week ago my computer was degenerating to such a condition that it would no longer start up properly: it would not load some of the host process properly at start up and the desk top would not appear. The system would hang up, and the only way I could access files was in safe mode.
So I decided to do a Full System Recovery and allow the computer to restore itself to some sort of usable condition. Upon completing the initial set up I was presented with, I pressed FINISH and the system froze again, refusing to load the desktop.
So, perhaps foolishly, I attempted a System Recovery from the Recovery DVDs the computer had prompted me to make a while ago, as well as a few more System Restores and Recoveries.
Finally after letting the computer run its course for nearly a day, I was able to use the desktop normally again. However, I discovered that some text documents which I had saved directly on to the desktop had disappeared. I scoured the directories looking for them, discovering that the old Documents and Settings from the previous user name (the one I had when I saved the files onto the desktop) would not allow me to access its DESKTOP folder, where I hoped these documents might be.
These documents were not backed up in any other folder, but saved directly to the desktop.
My question is, and I know it's probably a long shot: Is there any hope that I might be able to recov... Read more

yes and no depending if you've written OVER the sectors of your data. Go get yourself a program that reads the sectors on the harddrive. A simple search on www.downloads.com will show some results. I believe I used a program called GetDataBack awhile ago. Worked like a charm.

Hi,
Actually i saved data in partition, then after added bitlocker security.
I think there is no way to put same data back in bitlock cover and unlock it or other solution.
If you have some suggestions, Please suggest.
I will be very thankfull to you.

hello,I did a system reset or recovery with Vista ( I have a compaq 610). I have 2 drives, C and D.Without thinking that it would be new formatted etc , I did not make a back-up of my pictures and docs ( I know ....)howver I made a back up a couple of weeks ago thru the HP software on D.If I now look at d it say 2gb of 10 free. Which means that their should be data on....  But when I click on it I see nothing.would anyone know how I can see that data and what is on the D drive?thankschris

Answer:lost data after system recovery

The D: drive probably doesn't contain any backups. It contains a recovery partition. The "backup" procedure you ran through, assuming you didn't burn any discs during the process, likely just backed up your data somewhere on the C: drive, not onto D: (since there would not be room).

My girlfriend's laptop seems to be showing symptoms consistent with gradual hard-drive failure (she is losing random bits of data for no reason and is experiencing OS functionality slowdown as well as boot errors). One of the files that 'vanished' was her diary, is there any way to recover this by means of software? (The laptop is still functional and I can run whatever needs to be run). Please get back to me if there is any way to solve this. We tried a data-recovery program but it didn't yield any results, only something that looks like a temp copy of the file. Word couldn't open it because it was corrupted, and I don't think that's the right file anyways since it's only ~160 B, when her diary was a 20 page file (I'm guessing ~100 KB)
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

I have a problem with a hard drive. I think the partition info has been corrupted or over written. It was a dual partitioned hard drive (approx 80/120 on a 200G drive NTFS)Is there any free software I can try to see if it sorts my problem.Failing that is there any (cheaper) software that will sort me out. I've just had a play with partition doctor and it can see my files on the first partition (the important ones) so I might buy that if I have to.I did try the software on this months cover disc and it found some of the stuff off the 2nd partition but seems to be corrupting alot of it in the saving process. Thanks for any help.PS. I just had a play with R-Studio on the cover disk and that can see the 1st partition as well.

Well, I've gotten myself into quite a pickle, let's just say me and my PC haven't been getting along very well lately . In the last 2 weeks I've successfully fought off a nasty CWS infection, subsequently upgraded to XP SP2 and all the latest patches, and now this. I was using the machine yesterday morning, and it was exceedingly sluggish. Task Manager showed that TurboTax which I'd left running wasn't responding. I repeatedly attempted to close TT, and 2 minutes later it finally closed. Instead of rebooting immediately, I went to IE to browse the web. A few minutes later the machine came screeching to a halt. No BSOD, just frozen. After several minutes of messing around and making nothing happen (CTRL+ALT+DEL did nothing, ALT+F4 did nothing, couldn't open any menus, etc.) I resigned myself to using the reset button.

On the reboot, the machine started to load XP, then reset on its own back to the BIOS splash screen. I attempted to reboot normally, same thing. Last known good configuration, same thing. Safe Mode, same thing. So, XP is hosed.

I loaded the System Recovery console and started looking around. Dir reports a problem enumerating directories on C:/. Chkdisk reports there are errors it can't fix. I ran Fixboot and it said it couldn't determine the current partition type. I started the diskpart utility and it sees a partition, but of uknown type and no data.

So obviously, the partition and possible the whole file allocati... Read more

Hi,

I have a friends laptop (a Satellite Pro) which fails to boot into Vista (even in safe mode) with a blue screen. I have tried booting off my own Vista CD to attempt a windows repair, but even that results in the same blue screen. To cut a long story short, I want to resort back to factory default, but the recovery CDs were never created.

I can access the drive contents (both the C drive and the data partition) by booting off a linux live CD. Is there any way I can copy the files oft the data partition, and create a recovery CD/DVD using these file?

Many thanks

No. You cannot do this. What you can do now is to order original recovery disc from Toshiba.

G'day alll,

Been out of the game for a while, got a Toshiba Satellite P850
I thought id set it back to factory default so hit zero key.

Came up with option wipe hdd, Toshiba recovery wizard.

I thought great it will wiped the hdd then let me use the hidden partition to reinstall the fresh copy of windows8 that came with it.

Now I get on boot up
Reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and pre any key.

Im gob smacked that its own Toshiba recovery wizard would wipe it own recovery partiton ....

so now have no recovery partiton as im aware as holding the zero key down keeps coming up with the above..

think i made a big boboo.

Looking for best way & eaiest way to solve this?
cheers macka.

Ive tried using my hiren & bootcd but wont even pick them up after chaning boot order in bios to cd drive first etc.

just keeps going back to
Reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and pre any key.

any help will be appreciated.
cheers again Macka. Am i missing something???

Answer:Lost recovery partition on Satellite P850

Your biggest mistake was that you didn?t create recovery media using preinstalled recovery media creator tool. With this recovery media (DVD or USB stick) you will be able now to install original recovery image. It is also described in user?s manuals document. Such back-up is very important.

Problem is that you cannot force your notebook to have access or install recovery image, if it is still saved on HDD. Now you can either install own OS version using Microsoft installation disc or order original Toshiba recovery disc for recovery image installation.

I don't know where do you live but if you have European notebook model you can order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Yes you can use iso file and drivers offered on Toshiba download page but you cannot use product key for activation. As far as i know this key belongs to original recovery image that you got with your machine.

Hi, this is my first post so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have started using windows 8 now as my work PC and wanted to make a recovery drive, just in case.
I have a 128GB SSD (for the Win8 OS) and a 2TB HD for all my work files, videos, photos, music and so on.

I wanted to make a recovery drive so I went to Disk Management and created a small 32GB partition.

Then went onto Create a Recovery Drive. It did say that the drive would be cleared, but I presumed that it just meant that partition.

I now have 1.9TB of unallocated space (that im hoping my files are still on) but im worried anything i try might wipe it for good.

The main reason I think that the files are still there is that the 'formatting' took less than 5 seconds.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Guys can I ask for a little help please
My Dell Vostro laptop was running Windows 7 (64 bit) professional but a few months ago I made a backup of the windows partition with True Image Plus 2013 as a back-up, I then upgraded to windows 8 all was working ok for a while but I decided Windows 8 was not for me and decided to use the true image backup I had made of windows 7.
I booted my computer with the true image boot cd and selected the relevant backup image file, all was ok until One second from completion and then true image said the restore had failed.
I then tried to boot my computer but the MBR was missing I then tried to use a Windows 7 system dvd to repair the MBR but it would not work.
I then found out that when the restore failed it had destroyed my windows partition and my factory recovery partition, and a partition I had my data stored on, so now I am unable to restore my computer with the factory restore option.
Fortunately I had made some rescue dvd and I have my computer working again but I would like the recovery partition back working if I can
I you look at the disk management screen shot I have attached you can see that I have a partition with a size 750.0 MB and 750MB free.
But now I am using Macrium to make my backups and when I run a back-up it reports that a partition is called Recovery and it is 750.0 MB with 212.0MB used and 537.0 MD free please see second screenshot
Can anyone tell me what?s going on and can I get the recovery partition to work again... Read more

Answer:Lost Dell factory recovery partition

The 750mb partition contains the files needed to boot windows. It is quite large because there may some oem tools on there as well.

You don't have an actual recovery partition containing the files needed to reinstall.

You can make one easily enough. It doesn't need to be a separate partition , you could use your data partition for that and still keep all your stuff on there.

I would use the latest installation media for that.

You can get it from here: Windows 7 Direct Download Links - HeiDoc.net

Or you could use what is on your recovery discs if you really want.

You have a problem now. Obviously you have formatted whole HDD and also deleted saved recovery image on recovery partition. This can be done if you have already created recovery media (USB or DVD).

Long story short, whilst formatting an SD card in a USB slot my PC BSOD after 30 seconds and would not boot after restart, PC was running Win10ProX64 and the primary drive is a Samsung 840 Pro 250GB SSD.

I have tried recovering machine with the drive in situ as primary but I am unable to run startup repair/system restore/reset pc or any other option from a win10 usb installer, so I gave up on that and installed my working (tested on another machine) Macruim boot USB that also fails to load so I booted to command prompt and had a quick look through diskpart, originally the disk had one partition consuming the entire drive and im assuming it will have had the 450MB partition created by win 10 installer

At this point I removed the drive and attached to another machine running Win7
Disk management looks like this

Mini tool partition wizard looks like this

and Get Data Back looks like this

Have skimmed through folder structures and all looks intact, my original intention was to recover a few files and format but I am now wondering if it is possible to recover the drive as a whole but am not sure of the best way forwards, any advice gratefully received.

Answer:Satellite A300 - I lost the recovery partition

Hi!

I think you did understand something wrong.
On the Toshiba notebooks there is no recovery partition, they have a HDDrecovery folder that contains the factory settings.
I recovery partition that you mean is a Window Vista feature, not a Toshiba.
Here is a useful link to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WinRE

The HDD recovery folder is stored on the second partition of the notebook. You can use the HDD recovery function if you go in the advanced boot menu, choose ?Repair my computer? and select the Toshiba HDD recovery function.
But I think this is too late now?

Did you burn the Toshiba recovery disk? Normally you can burn the factory image that is stored in the HDD recovery folder on a DVD by using the Toshiba recovery disk creator. Therefore you get always a remember message or popup that you have to do this.

If you didn?t do this and you want the Toshiba recovery disk you must order a new one. You can do this here: https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

I hope I could help you. Do you have more questions?

Bye

Good day, afternoon, night.
As the title explains I was trying to create a new primary partition in my Hard Disk Samsung HM500JI that I use as External Disk with an Acteck Enclosure USB 2.0 and with DISKPART I selected the Small Partition recently created and used the command "clean" (thinking that, that command would clean the partition and not the entire disk , and then I used "create partition primary" until I got advised that the entire disk was cleaned.

I found this thread and I think it could help me a lot with my problem but due all the programs are very powerful tools I don't want to delete my data

I had not put anything on the disk I just ran the Quick Scan and Deeper Scan from TestDisk with no lucky of recovery (I didn't take any SS of those scans). Now finished the Quick Scan of Partition Recovery in Partition Wizard with no lucky of any useful partition, just the last partition I did.

I will do the full scan of Partition Wizard and I will put the SS here.

It was only "Clean" command and "Create Partition Primary". Not "Clean All", so If the PW doesn't works I think the only tool that could help me is DMDE.

Answer:HDD Data lost, Diskpart Clean and Create Partition Primary Commands

Hi alexalget,

I am still trying to reconstruct what you have done leading to this problem. Please answer each question point by point for my understanding.

1. You had put a 500GB HDD into an external casing. When you put it in the very first time, was that HDD a new one or it already had data in it?

2.Have you been using this setup, reading and writing into the drive since the time you put that 500GB drive in it, without changing the disk structure? In other words did you wipe / format it and started with a clean 500GB HDD inside?

3. If you were already using the drive, you will not be able to create a new volume unless you delete the existing volume. Did you delete the existing volume, before you created a new small volume of 8 GB?

4. Did you use Windows Disk Management to create this new 8GB volume?

5. Also post a screenshot of how your drive looks now in Windows Disk Management as well as Partition Wizard -the very first screen that appears when you launch PW.

( I know you had read the other thread by lonewolf, where Anshad Edavana had done an excellent work reconstructing the MBR, partition table and the NTFS boot sector. But your case is different - you seem to have done multiple operations rather than just a diskpart clean as in that case - and I am not sure whether you should follow that.)

Hi..

A recent attempt to install (downloaded from the HP site) printer software caused my stable XPsp3 Compaq/HP PC to constantly lock within a few mouse clicks from start up. Uninstalling the software didn't help and I couldn't restore to a pre-install restore point. Reinstalling the software from a borrowed disc didn't do anything either.

I ran the Compaq on-board system recovery software from boot up (from a partition on the disc I gather). Rather than go for the more destructive back-to-completely-original option, I went for one that said I'd have to reinstall non-factory software - but that data files would be unaffected.

Lo and behold the near-opposite has occurred: all the self-installed software remains intact but data files from my account have been wiped. My wifes account data is still there however.

I've a recent enough back-up available but will have lost honeymoon photos. At least, they're not available via XP/Explorer - though I assume they haven't been written over yet on disc. Any idea how to go about retrieving these files?

Any help would be appreciated..

Ian

Answer:Recovering lost data after system recovery

GetDataBack to recover the lost files, then I'd wipe the drive and start fresh. You may have had malware and/or HD errors messing up the repair install. The HD may also be failing; it would be a good idea to test it before reinstalling.

I have a disk with 2 partictions. Recently my system would not recognise either one of them. However I have got lucky and XP home is able to read from one of these 2 partitioned drives. However when copying some files from this drive I get message - Data error :Cyclic redundancy check. But this is only sometimes and I have been able to copy most of my data off this drive.

My big problem is that the second partition is unaccesible. Xp recognises this drive as as drive G: but it is unable to read it.

Just for info when booting I get a Master File Table error.

Can anyone recomend any software tools to recover my data. Would really really be a huge help.

See what happened was....

I was getting ready to migrate to a much smaller SSD; as I've done a few times, I shrunk the main OS partition and a secondary data partition and shifted everything "left" with gparted. On next boot, which I do to let it figure out what is where and ditch the "dirty" flag, it did a chkdsk, which is normal (right? it is on 7, which I use most of the time), but it just ran a zillion messages about deleting index for file [insert file name here]. It then switched off to finish a reboot and never woke up. The partition table's all messed up now from it trying to fix itself, and honestly, it's not my computer, so trying to get her drive back whole is key here. It's GPT partitioned and a spin drive, so hopefully recoverable? Ideas? The method I tried worked about 6 times before, but on Win7 and Linux setups...
