Preferred Solution: T410 - 2537-9UG, Missing TPM chip?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T410 - 2537-9UG, Missing TPM chip?

Your machine should include the TPM (secure chip) as per the model no.

Hello everybody, I am trying to set up the bluetooth to work on Windows 8. Funnily enough everything went smooth with Ubuntu 14.04.So I am 100% sure this laptop has bluetooth hardware. Still, on the support website there is driver for bluetooth. It says it should be included in Windows 8 but I can't find it.Nor I can find the proper device in my control panel. Any hint? Thank you all.

Answer:T410 2537 NQ6 bluetooth under Windows 8

Hello, Are you sure Windows 8 didn't install its native Bluetooth drivers? I've never had any problems with Bluetoothinstallation on any ThinkPads when either clean installing or upgrading to Windows 8. If you have the Thinkpad Hotkey Features Integration package installed, you can press FN+F5 to open upyour WiFi-Bluetooth window and enable the Bluetooth there. If not, the package is here: Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 See if this doesn't resolve the issue. Cheers.

I have a thinkpad T410 (2537-DN1) and my original power adapter is seeing some wear and tear that I have temporarily fixed with some electrical tape. My adapter is currently a 60W/20V model. What I am wondering is that I still have an adapter from my old T60. It's a 90W/20V model. Can I safely use it on my T410? My research has found both yes and no suggestions but nothing solid. Ergo, I thought I would ask. Thanks in advance, kate

Answer:wwan card in thinkpad t410 2537-BA2

Hi, tejas08881

From what I can see, the card is not in your system by default, so you would have to procure one. The card for your system is the Gobi 2000 for worldwide use, as shown here in this KnowledgeBase article. The correct part number for it is 60Y3183 and you should be able to give Lenovo India a call at 1-800-3000-9990 to order one if you'd like. Just make sure that the WWAN card is Lenovo-branded, as other cards will not be recognized in the BIOS.

Hope it helps,
Adam

And is there a place to source this ic chip in the USA? I've found a few china sources but id rather get some from the states if I can, note the last pic is a second location on the T420s where a cap is blown across from the ic chip, thanks in advance. T410 T420s T420s

I have a T410 (2539-CTO) and I can't find a way to enable the Security Chip in the BIOS.  On the BIOS "Security Chip" page, it shows that the "Current setting" is inactive.  However, the option to "[Enter]" to change settings is greyed out. I was under the impression that all T410's should have the security chip built in. Is this not the case?  Or is something wrong with this unit?

Hello After a few hours of searching, I have to ask what causes this. I have a T530 with the builtin fingerprint reader and TPM (trusted platform module). In the bios I can enable TPM, BUT the additional TXT selection is missing. Because of this, Windows Hello test says it is not hardware TPM bound and because of this the ENPASS password manager won't allow to unlock its master password using fingerprint reader... This is a complete mystery because another T530 without the fingerprint reader does show the TXT in bios. Does anyone happen to know how I could get the TXT to my T530 also? Attached is a bios screenshot where the other laptop shows TXT also. I have tried cold boot and cleared the TPM but no luck... Thanks!

Answer:T420 BIOS - "Clear Security Chip" Option missing

Without seeing the machines, here is my best guess:  The TPM (trusted platform module) chip is an option of that model.  Perhaps that option is not available on non-TPM modules.  Look at the FRU number on the motherboard.

Hello all! I am new to having a thinkpad and I know that my system has a the intigrated graphics and the discrete nvidia nvs 3100m Optimus card.  Here is the issue though.  I have been trying to run some programs that are more video oriented (gaming).  I discovered that my system is only reading the intigrated graphics and doesn't even acknowledge that the nvidia card is there.   I have updated to the latest drivers and checked the Bios to make sure things are there.  Sadly they are not.  I looked at the bios, followed the directions I found on the forum to set that to card to on only to find that the the only card it recognizes is the intigrated graphics.  So the question is, how do I get the bios and the computer in general to recognize the nvidia card on my T410 (2522)?

Hi everyone I've recently bought new T410 type 2537-A11 with WIN7 PRO sticker beneath a battery. Surprisingly, when I first launch OS, it appeared WIn7, but Home Edition. Moreover, I can't find recovery partition on hard drive!! I have no recovery discs. Probably, the seller did a "switch" OS and deleted recovery partition. Of course, the seller made no response after I described the problem. What can I do with it? Answer:T410 Missing Driver for WLAN

Hello and welcome,

Based on your MT-M, these are the laptop specs:

i5-520M(2.4GHz), 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN option, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro

Using just that description, this is the WLAN driver:  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t41...

It would be good to verify the actual model of your wifi card.  Go to Device Manager, right click on the WLAN adapter and select properties.  If there isn't a clear model description in the General tab, go to Details and grab the hardware IDs.  Google or post them here and that should confirm the card model.

At the end of last year we purchased just over 330 T410 laptops. In 6 months we have had 13 with cracked LCDs. I can say that 2 where caused by the users. Pen left on one units keyboard and there was a dropped unit with scratches on the corner were visible. If this continues we will end up with 26 units per year getting mysterious cracke. We did not experience these problems with the Dell D620/D630 series we had for 4 years prior to the T410.  One of our users claimed that the support tech at IBM told him that the LCDs could not support high temperature variations. No details as to what these variations are. We are nationwide so each area will have a variety of temps.  I remember back about 4 years ago watching live demos by IBM reps that would stand on the laptops and pour water in the keyboard. The units looked tough. Has something changed? The specs looked reallty good when we were comparing manufacturers last year.   Anybody else experiencing a high failure rate of unexplainable cracked LCDs ?Thanks

Dear Lenovo, dear x220-engineers, after three years of staying with a *insert-name-of-a-popular-u.s-it-brand* notebook I have the desperate need to upgrade to a new, ultra portable device. Gladly this coincides perfectly with the release of x220. Besides perfect display, perfect weigth and perfect price there is one thing bugging me... There are numerous reports of the standard-cpus creating lot of heat and thus prompting also fan noise. Personally I would prefer a slightly less powerful CPU like the low voltage i5-2537 over the standard ones. These ones are stated to have half the TPD as standard ones. Therefore I would like to know, can we expect x220 variants with these lv-cpus? Possibly also as university-model? Thanks in advance.

Answer:When will we see X220 with Low-Voltage CPU, e.g. i5-2537

Heh. I don't think Lenovo Forums censors other brands names. (Apple, Asus, Acer, Dell, Gateway, HP, SONY, Toshiba)The X220 fan issues might be an issue not necessarily related to the heat of a full power CPU. Probably want to stay tuned to the X220 fan thread. Can't remember if anyone reported egregious thermal output on the X220.

Hello ! I'm using a T410(2537-9UG ; BIOS 1.37; ECP:1.14) with Optimus in a Mindock Plus 3 and a external Display, witch is with a displayport cable connected. When the default setting in the BIOS (Config->Display->Nvidia Optimus) is selected, I got no bootscreen on the ext. Display. This is bad, because I'm using a power-on password at the machine startup. The ext. Display shows a screen not before the W7 logon screen is loaded. When I select the discrete Grafik in the BIOS I can select other Boot Display Devices like Displayports 1 or 2 from the dockingstation. Then I get the bootscreen. But this is very circular, because when I want to use the machine mobile I've to change these settings first, to be able to use Optimus. When I select the integrated Grafikchip in the BIOS I get only a bootscreen and a picture on the ext. Display, when I connect the Displayportcable directly to the T410.Does anybody have a idea to get a Bootscreen with Optimus ??GreetingsJürgen

Answer:Thinkpad T410 Recovery Partition Missing

Is the partition missing in both Windows Exlporer and Disk Management?

Is this machine new to you, or did someone else own it previously?  There's an option when burning recovery media to have the recovery partition deleted and added to C:  Perhaps someone already did this?  Or perhaps this was a clean install from  Microsoft medai?

If the partition is still actually there, you may be able to burn recovery media via Rescue and Recovey.

Failing that, you can order media from Lenovo support.

Hi, We are configuring a T410 2518-C3U with our own XP image. We have two unknown devices left. One is a PCI device VEN_1180 DEV_E230. Google shows this is a Ricoh card reader. The two Ricoh card reader drivers on the website seem to be for USB devices and as a result don't apply. Technical support was only able to point to article MIGR_72586, but that does not list T410 devices. The second one is a USB device: usb\vid_147e&PID_2016That seems to be the fingerprint co-processor. We installed the one driver that is shown in the T410 list as being related to the security suite. Any tips welcome! TxBas

Cause lenovo did not test or released all the compatible windows 10 drivers for the T410 yet.

But you can try to right click the BT driver from the device manager and choose Update Driver Software.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/diagnose-and-fix/detail.page?submit=true&componentID=1343112653903&D... Lenovo has known about the T410 battery firmware issues for some time.  But they still don't recognize my 9-cell battery as being affected.  9-cell Battery FRU 42T4799 (glaringly missing from the above URL) Because that FRU isn't listed, the firmware won't install.  : ( The battery has been affected from day 1.  The laptop suddenly drops from ~60% battery to 4% battery, without warning.  The worst part is, I know there is plenty more charge left.  The 9-cell battery has never lasted much over an hour, even when brand new, due to this bug.  This has happened since day 1.  The laptop is under warranty, but the battery no longer is. I'm a longtime Thinkpad user.  I've sold many, many Thinkpads to clients (probably around 100).  So yes, I've reset the power gauge, fully cycled the battery, even reinstalled the OS clean with latest Lenovo drivers & power software, etc.  I've been living with this too long, which is partly my own fault.  I kept thinking if I waited long enough they'd update the affected FRUs to cover my unit. Any advice?  I don't see how/where I can get to Lenovo engineering to report this bug.

Answer:T410 battery issue that Lenovo engineering keeps missing.

Is it just that particular battery or all batteries with that FRU ???

I've got a very good condition Inspiron 1100 that came with a Celeron Chip. I would like to see how possible it is to find a Pentium or Pentium-Like Chip and switch it out with the current slower Celeron.

I know you might need some technical info about the laptop so what should I post that might help to see if it is something that might make it a better performing machine? I'm not really looking to get a new laptop since I have one from my company, but the personal one is just slow and lags. I've had worked with other friends when doing it to a desktop but not a laptop.

Thanks for the help.

I have bought Win XP Home edition software to install on my reserve PC. The machine is a Compaq Desk Pro. Pentium 3/500 MHz.I removed the memory stick, PC100 ?222- 620. CL2 128MB, to increase the RAM on my everyday PC.My question is, as my intention is a clean install XP on my reserve machine ? can I now insert a 256MB, PC133 memory stick in my old PC? (As PC133 memory sticks appear to be cheaper) Or must it still be a PC100?Thank you for any advice.

Answer:Can I replace PC100 Memory chip with PC133 chip?

As far as I can recall you can use faster memory, but it will/may only work at the bus speed available i.e. PC100 in your case if it is backwards compatible.

Hi,  I'm got a z50-70 that came with a 4gig 1.35v ram chip. Tried to instal a 1.5v 4 gig Kingston chip, but neither the bios not windows is able to read it. However, that same chip works on other computers and has been verified as the service center as being in working order. Both chips are 1600mhz.  I am using the latest bios version (v26) as well as the latest chipset drivers.  If I use a third-party utility, Cpuz etc, I am able to see that 2 chips are installed and the third party utility can pull information from kingston chip (cas, speed etc.) However, total memory everywhere in the system is still 3.9 gb.  What could be the problem and what do I need to do?

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Uninstall the current Wifi driver from the system and do not update the drivers from Windows update, use only ThinkVantage system update utility to update the latest drivers for your system hardware.

Hope this helps!

I have a computer where the DHCP service will not start due to a missing dependent service.  I did some digging and found that the NetBT.sys file was missing, as well as the related Registry keys and the NetBIOS over TCP/IP service in Device Manager.
I tried copying the NetBT.sys file over from a known good XP SP3 machine, but before I went any further, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.  Can someone offer some suggestions to fix this without having to reload XP?

Thanks,
Phil

Answer:NetBT.sys missing, registry entries missing, and NetBIOS over TCP/IP service missing from Device Manager

For what it is worth, I pulled the netbt.sys file from a known good machine and putting it into the %Windows%\system32\drivers folder, then imported the registry keys for NetBT from the same machine.  Rebooted the computer and the "NetBIOS over TCP
IP" driver showed up in Device manager under "Non Plug-and-Play Devices".  It showed that it was started, and verified that the DHCP client server was started as well.  Everything was in good working order at that point.  Here are the registry

Question: Chip set HELP

I have a Q/A about Chip sets??The Noth Brige Chip controles Data from the CPU and AGP Slot  and Main Memory. The South Brige controlles Data from the PCI Slots. So my Q/A is ...I am building a PC just for Computer Graphics and Animation  and Video and Audio editting. And just one Video card with no fancy outpus or things like that.So how do I know what Motherboards Chip Set is good for that  they all say they can do the job??

Answer:Chip set HELP

They probably all can...Unless your building a high end gaming machine the choice of chipset isn't that important IMO. Just get a motherboard that supports the hardware you want to install on it.Depending on the graphics card you want, consider getting a mobo with either Crossfire (ATI) or SLI (Nvidia) support. That way you can install a second graphics card at a later point if you need the extra power. And when you've found a couple of motherboards you like, google them to see if any reviews or comments from other buyers are available.

Hello, I work for a company that repairs HP Probooks, and we recently stumbled upon this chip installed in the top cover of an HP Probook 450 G2.  The chip itself is not attached to anything when installed in the top cover, and isn't marked with anything to indicate what it does. The only markings on the chip are "Copyright 2014 HP." This is a picture of the chip installed in the top cover:    I would really appreciate feedback on this, as I have shown this to multiple I.T. professionals who also have no idea what this chip does. Thank you.

Question: TPM chip

Does the Thinkpad Yoga 14 have a TPM chip built into it? I do not see any references to it in the hardware maintenance manual, which is the closest hardware related document I could find for this laptop. I do not see any option in the BIOS to enable a TPM or security chip etc. The tpm.msc snapin doesn't show a TPM in Windows (which I assumed was because it wasn't enabled in the BIOS). When I was buying this laptop online, the online sales agent told me that this laptop has a TPM chip in it. He said that ALL Thinkpad laptops have a TPM chip in them. I bought this laptop a year ago for solely this reason. Thanks in advance.

Answer:i3 chip with 4gb ram or i5 chip with 2gb ram?

More RAM is perhaps more useful ultimately. 2GB isn't anything special these days... although fine for most users. It's relatively cheap to add though to most systems if needed...If it came down to 2 or 4 gb I would take 4 and the lesser processor.

Hi,

I had a thread here which concerned games not working correctly with a new graphics card, turns out I was just expecting too much from my pentium 4 cpu (2.93 ghz).

So my question is what could I do to improve the performance without spending £300 to do it.
Would it be worth buying a pentium D or as I have read would that not improve the gaming situation?

This is from the manufactures homepage:

The Foxconn® RC4107MA-RS2 motherboard is compatible with the following CPUs:

Pentium 4 3xx series:
326, 330J, 331, 356, 335J, 336, 340J, 341, 345J, 346, 351, 355, 356
Pentium 4 5xx series:
505, 506, 511, 515, 516, 519, 520, 521, 530, 530J, 531, 540, 540J, 541, 550, 550J, 551, 560J, 561, 570J, 571
Pentium 4 6xx series:
630, 631, 640, 643, 650, 651, 660, 661, 662, 670, 672
Pentium 4 8xx EE series:
3.2Ghz/800 (840EE)
Pentium 4 8xx series:
805, 820, 830, 840
Pentium 4 EE Series:
3.4Ghz/800

System Memory
The motherboard supports the following memory configuration:

Supports DDR2 533 MHz and 667 MHz SDRAM memory modules
Accommodates two 1.8V DDR2 240-pin single channel, un-buffered DIMM sockets
Each slot supports up to 1 GB with a total maximum capacity of 2 GB
As you can see the mobo doesn't support core2duo so to upgrade I would have to buy the new chip, motherboard and then since the o/s came pre-installed, XP, and I only have the recovery disk I would have to buy a new o/s as well. Didn't want to go to vista yet.

Anyone know of a good chip to put on the mot... Read more

I have an amd 1700+ chip, what is the recommended operating temp? mine runs at 55-60°C. Its not overclocked. should i think about more cooling?

Answer:how hot should my amd chip be?

AMD's do tend to run hot. My XP2800 has a Zalman 5100Cu cooler and seems to run around 50-55C when I've been playing games. Extra cooling won't hurt, but it you're using the standard AMD heatsink/fan the most effective way is to upgrade the CPU cooler, as case fans will mainly lower the overall system temp and not the CPU as much.

You guys have always come thru in the past, and I really need you now.

I built my WinXP machine originally in 2002. It's been pretty much running 24/7 since, running a web radio station. I shut it down last week as we moved across country. Upon arriving I set up the machine. Plugging it in I get a green light on the mother board and my CPU fan spins momentarily. But when I try powering it up I get no response. No power light on the front, no activity from hard drives, no error beeps, nothing. I even tried two backup power supplies with the same results. I checked all the wires to the power switch and power lights, all are connected and fine. A friend of mine suggested my CPU chip could have died. It's an older Intel Celeron chip from 2002. Any thoughts?

Question: 64 bit chip

Will a 64 bit microprocessor run Windows Vista faster and more efficiently?

Answer:64 bit chip

Theoretically yes, if you run Vista 64bit, I found that applications like Office and IE opened quicker using x64 Vista over x86 Vista ( Office is a 32bit application and IE7+ was a 64bit version of IE ), but it was just eyeball obsevations, not noticed at speed comparison tests done as yet.

Sad thing is as yet not many applications are fully written to take advantage of 64bit CPUs, Photoshop CS ( more memory allocation routines to take advantage of the 64bit OS and 3gb+ of ram ) is one I know of but you still need to run a 64bit OS to take advantage of that increase in speed or memory allocation routines.

I haven`t priced these chips yet, but I would like to know if there would be an obvious performance difference between the two?

Question: AMD on chip PCI-E

AMD's new socket type, 1207, will have integrated PCI-Express. This helps explain the large number of pins. Benefits should include faster internet performance (10 Gigabit), lower latency for most hardware functions, faster video, faster sound and faster communication between on board hardware. This means better graphics and sound for games and home media centers. Additionally, it will allow faster performance for dual CPU systems. Let's hope the chipset is up to the task without thermal management issues (the traditional Achilles Heel for AMD).Click to expand...

Source :The Inquirer

Interesting.... I see this as the new standard for gaming!

Answer:AMD on chip PCI-E

Faster internet perfomance? I highly doubt that. It really all depends on your ISP.

Integrated PCI-Express...Whoopedoo. I've seen integrated AGP work like crap. As in my very first computer I purchased. Yeah, it was a compaq. ATI Rage Pro integrated agp. Worked like crap compared to a PCI video card (I believe it was a 3dfx card)

Dual cpus maybe, if the programs running look for it. Though, I know of a few tricks, which I won't go explaining here, to have certain processes running on certain cpus, if one has two cpu's. Remember XP home doesn't truly (without editing) support multicore cpu's. Essentially, multicore cpu's are two cpus in one. XP pro supports this.
Anyway....

I still think of the Inq as the National Enquirer....of computers.
Edit: I'm not attacking your post, just posting my opinions, humble that they are.

Question: which chip set

Hi everyone

I have decided to build a new pc and have a question for all of you. I am going to go with one of these two choices and was wondering which chipset you would recomend. The SIS645 chipset or the VIA P4X400 I will be running a P4 2.53 with 533mhz front side bus, 512mb of pc2700 memory, geforce4Ti4200, and a maxtor 60gb with Ultra ATA133. The two boards I am choosing from are the Soyo "SY-P4S Dragon Ultra" or the "SY-P4X400 Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition". I can get a better deal on the "SY-P4S" and it handles what I want to install, But was concerned in the chipsets mainly. Which would you recomend?

Thanks and hope to see your replies

Answer:which chip set

If there is the choice in between SIS and VIA, so I wouldn't think to much about that and take the VIA (too many problems with SIS so far).

As per these information below,

I'm afraid the Lenovo Z50 doesn't have a TPM chip (this is usually visible in the BIOS).

does pavilion series laptop have TPM chip?? and which version of tpm?

Answer:does it have TPM chip?

Hi, No, it (and I could say all consumer class machines) does not have TPM chip. Its specs:      http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-pavilion-15-au600-notebook-pc/14039870/document/c05306750/ If you wish to have TPM chip, please buy a business class machine.  Now my question: What are you trying to setup ? You may be able to find an option. Regards.

ok so if you dont have a TPM chip...you can use a key

according to ms

You can also implement BitLocker without a TPM chip. When implemented in this
manner there is no startup integrity check. A key is stored on a removable USB memory
device, which must be present and supported by the computer’s BIOS each time
the computer starts up. After the computer has successfully started, the removable
USB memory device can be removed and should then be stored in a secure location.

and if the key fails???

Answer:no TPM chip...usb key???

Then you restore your data from backup.

If you want to use BitLocker and don't want to use a flash drive, buy a computer or motherboard that supports TPM.

Or use TrueCrypt.

Or are you looking for the answer you wish were true? If the flash drive weren't required, then there would be no security. You can't have it both ways.

Question: New chip

Do I need to apply a sealent when I put a new chip in my PC?

Answer:New chip

Assuming you mean thermal paste, yes, you will need some material to help transfer heat from the CPU to the heatsink.

Most, if not all, heatsinks will come with either a thermal pad or some thermal paste already applied. If you don't plan on overclocking, this should be more than adequate.

Question: vga chip?

Answer:vga chip?

I think you will need to provide more details. What game are you referring to? Have you met the requirements of the game? (look on the back cover for minimum system requirements).when does it refer to the message? During the game, before the game, or when you try to play the game etc

Question: what chip

My friend has been given a PC not working and asked me to take a look.I cannot get it to boot having changed the Graphics card, and Memory, so decided to see what chip, as this appeared to be the last thing to try. However all the writing has just about rubbed off so I cannot tell what chip needs replacing. I think it is a P4 but cannot tell, I am just going by the fact that all the pins are present (square) as opposed to the diagonal corner missing, with which you line it up.I also took the hard drive out and put it in another PC and got the dreaded blue screen which states there may be a virus on it and windows has shut down. I ran fdisk from my start up disk but noticed the drivers were loaded onto the virtual drive C: and reading D: gave me no results. Any way Fdisk stated that 3% was NTFS and the other 97% MS-Dos which confused me and I was not sure if I could delete and re-format as Dos as I want to install win 98.Can anyone help with how to identify the Chip, and the hard drive problem. Thanks M

Answer:what chip

click here. There are a lot of diagnostic tools on this CD. The program AIDA16 will find all hardware information for you. There are also Antivirus Tools on this CD as well.

Question: Bios chip

I have a ASUS motherboard ( A7A 266-E ) with a 1011 bios and a 1700+ athlon.
I have been told i need the 1012 bios if i want to put a faster cpu in.
I dont want to flash the bios as with my luck i would end up with a pile of scrap so i was wondering if i can buy a bios chip with the updated bios on it and install it myself. ( the bios can be taken out of the mobo )
I have looked on the website but the u.k. one has not been finished and i cannot get the others to work.
Has anyone here done this upgrade and has anyone got any suppliers i could contact ?
Thanks.
Dez.

I have an AsusTek P4B-LX board (Micro ATX).

I was overclocking it.

It has a stock default of 1.8 Ghz (i've done tests, and it isn't overclock, or underclocked).

well, i went ot over clock it.

but i can only seem to get up to 2.0 Ghz

My board supports 2.4 Ghz

but my CPU seems to have only a maximum of 2.0 Ghz

I even checked in Sandra2004. it says that the maximum speed of my CPU ius 2.0 Ghz, but that my board supports 2.4 Ghz.

am i just gonna have to settle for this overclock? or is there something i can do.

Cuz i can definatley go higher...my Tempurature issue is in tip-top-shape. im at 93F right now at 2.0 Ghz with my FSB at 4x111 (that's 444 Mhz it says in sandra) my Ram is also O/c'd from PC133 to PC148

Answer:My CPU chip only has a maximum of 2.0 Ghz? is that right?

It's probably your memory failing on the overclock. If it is pc133 most won't run higher than that. You could try upping your memory voltage .1 if your bios support it. Or get some HS ram I beleive it was called, but it only ran at like 150

Question: Ram Chip Fixable

First of all my Spec is in my sig

At september i got 2 1g sticks of Corsair RAM (pc3200), i put them in the pc (wouldnt go on dual channel at the time but i wasnt bothered, just put em in 2 seperate channels) and off it went. About 3 weeks later i got this problem, which i tracked down to one of those 1g sticks. Whenever this stick is in the problem starts.

The problem is that everything crashes with the message "this program has encountered a problem and needs to close" and asks whether to send a error report (And i mean everything. Folders, MSN, Explorer etc and it happens almost constantly after a short while). Its definetly one of those sticks that causes this ive made sure of that. Question is, is a problem like this fixable? I was going to run a diagnostic to see if it could mend it but i was told that ill probably just have to replace it. I thought different since the problem isnt as bad as a black screen on boot or anything like that, so i just want to know if this is true (becuase the diagnostic takes ages an i dont wanna waste my time if it wont help) and that if it is fixable does anyone know a tool i could use.

Thanks

(incase anyone thinks its the mobo i tested a m8's 1g stick in my board on Dual channel and it worked gr8, so it is without a doubt this stick thats causeing bother)

Question: Chip Creep

Visting a friend´s home and have been helping them learn how to use some applications and such.
Past few days they´ve left the computer on for quite a while. Nothing major since a computer is meant
to be used. They´ve got all the necessary setup needs since I installed and pretty much serviced everything
here for some odd years now. It´s an older Compaq Presario tower and well about a couple of days ago
it was shut off during the evening. The next morning I came to turn it on and the computer wouldn´t
reach the desktop. Had to hard shutdown by holding the power button. Turned it back on and it stalled
at the desktop, froze, and rebooted on it´s own. Unlikely to be a virus is what I thought since ESET is
on this machine and they barely use the pc at all (probably 20-30 short days of use in 2015). Although it has been used quite a lot since I got here. I´m a pretty knowledgable tech so I´ve been showing them new things for days on end. Knew a quick way to rule out a virus was to go into the bios and see if the pc was shaky. Sure enough I began to see graphical glitches on the screen while sitting in the bios menu (not touching any settings). It then froze... Right away my mind said it´s either the PSU, Ram, HDD, or the computer is dying out. I took the cover off of the tower the thing is almost spotless since I´ve cleaned it myself many times. Took the ram completely out (only one stick is installed on the first slot), and then wiped the seemingly clean edge with a pa... Read more

Sure, doing a chemical clean shouldn't harm anything, consider getting some kind of vibration absorbing feet, or blocks under the feet of the PC.

Hey all. I want to get a new Pentium chip for my computer for christmas but I dunno what my current motherboard can handle, and am unsure of what my motherboard is.. I was wondering how can I find out what my current motherboard is and whats the max chip it can handle? Atm Im running a p4 1.7 but would like if poss to upgrade it to atleast a 2.8, also being that it is a dell would it be wise to think about upgrading the motherboard and internals? I don't have a great deal to spend as it would be all for christmas but would want a system which could easly handle 2days games I already have the graphics side sorted, its just the chip which lets the side down..
Any help is very much appreciated! Cheers all

Answer:Motherboard and chip Help!

Download CPU-Z & see what it says about your current CPU. If it is a Northwood based CPU (0.13 process & 512kb of L2 cache), you could upgrade to a 2.8ghz, provided you can still find one with a 100mhz FSB (400 quad pumped).

Take a screenshot of the CPU-Z window once you run it (ALT+PRINTSCREEN keys then paste it in mspaint or another image editing program) & then attach that image to your next post (remember to hit POST REPLY, you cannot attach files with the quick-reply feature).

can a pentium3 coppermine flipchip be damaged by trying to use it in a ppga socket?

Answer:can chip be damaged?

yeah.
but it depends.
if you only half heartedly tried to make it fit, prolly not.
but if you pulled a vesselle, and crammed it in, because you were positive that's where it went, you might be able to damage it. the chip might still be okay, but you'da messed up the connection so the mobo might be useless.
if you pulled a double vesselle, and convinced yourself it was in place and then actually turned your machine on, then you mighta hosed any number of additional things. but if you did that, you'd know it.
