T510/Thinkpad Mini Dock/How to wake up from sleep

Question: T510/Thinkpad Mini Dock/How to wake up from sleep

Hi All, I have my docking station set up to my new ThinkpadT510 and everything works, but after I put the computer to sleep in the docking station, I can not figure out how to wake it back up without having to open the lid of the computer. Any ideas???? The instructions that come with the 433710U Thinkpad Mini Dock Series3 are just a bunch of diagrams, not much in the way of instructions and not everyone is a techie!!! Thanks in advance, Utahtea

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: T510/Thinkpad Mini Dock/How to wake up from sleep

you can set the power button the dock to function as a wake computer button under the windows power manager section and thinkvantage power manager. Give that a try.

I have just got a mini dock puls 3 for my T510 running w7x64. When I leave the PC for some time it enters sleep mode as it should, but I cannot get the PC to wake up again. There seem to be absolute no response to any inputs from my external or build-in key board or mouse. The only way to start the PC again is to press and hold the power button until the PC reboots with the effect that I loose all open items on my dekstop. Before I user the mini dock my PC would restart when I swiped the fingerprint reader

hey kappelgaard, welcome to the forums.i'm guessing that your unit will wake from sleep if it is not connected to the docking station ?could you head over to http://support.lenovo.com and crosscheck that your unit has everything up to date, especially the BIOS.

I'd like to know how to wake a T520 connected to Mini Dock (type 4338). I have a basic USB mouse (wired) connected directly to the dock.  I've verified all of the items in Device Manager (mice and USB ports) are enabled for "waking the computer".In the article below, Lenovo says it's not possible to wake it by connecting directly to the dock....they say it's "not a limitation of the dock"... but "by design". Of, course that's the line all companies say now a days. But it CLEARLY IS A LIMITATION.  They say the only way is using the power button on the dock.  What a waste.Lenovo article:http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/diagnose-and-fix/detail.page?DocID=HT077684

My T510 does not have an eSATA port, so I purchased the Mini Dock Plus Series 3.  However, the eSATA port does not detect my external HDD. I have other PC's that detect the HDD on their eSATA ports just fine so I know it is not the HDD. The ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 information page indicates that the eSATA port is compatible with the T510. The laptop is running Windows 7 64-bit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a strange problem. Whenever my t510 is connected to my mini dock and there are any USB devices plugged into the laptop or the dock the computer will not stay in stand by. It will enter stand by, beep, and exit stand by. However, if there are no USB devices plugged into either it will enter and exit stand by normally. Here's the kicker though. If the laptop is not connected to the dock but has USB devices plugged into it, it will enter and exit stand by fine. I have tried all kinds of different USB devices and all different combinations, but these are the results every time. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks

When I wake my T510 from sleep in the dock, it usually fails to connect to the attached monitor and USB devices. Fails about 90% of the time. I have to pop it out of the dock, wait for the 2 Windows device disconnect sounds, then plug it back in. Sometimes it will connect to the monitor momentarily and then disconnect. Sometimes it will connect to the monitor but not the USB keyboard and mouse. This happens in two different docks. I have been patiently waiting a year for some driver update to fix this, but nada. Very disappointing, as my prior T400 also had dock problems that were never fixed. I have Intel graphics. Any tips? Thanks, Jonathan

I have a T510 on a 4338 Mini Dock Plus Series 3.  I want to connect an external 4-bay drive enclosure via the Mini Dock's eSATA port.  Will the 4338 and the T510's motherboard support an eSATA port multiplier?  Thanks!

Answer:T510 on a Mini Dock Plus Series 3

One additional piece of information.  When I connect two external eSATA drives, one to the Mini Dock's eSATA port and one to the T510's eSATA port using only eSATA cables and external power cables to both drives (i.e., no USB cables to confuse things), both drives are recognized and I get >100 MB per second copy speed from one drive to the other. Pretty good. So in the event that I can't get 4-drive port multiplier capability through one eSATA port, at least I can get 2-drive eSATA capability using the two separate eSATA ports. I know I can get port multiplier capability using an eSATA express card, but the express card slot on my t510 is a little finicky about insertion and removal. It doesn't have a positive stop when inserting the express card and I've had blue screens a few times as a result. I only use it for my flash card reader.  No way I would use it for external disk drives.

Hi Aside from the woes of opting to put an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD in a T510 (drive bay very snug and OCZ have firmware issues with some drives...) I am also seeing a problem with the T510 when docked. On the dock from booting up you dont get any video output until Windows loads. The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 205BW. The T510 has the Nvidia Optimus card, and I have tried all the options in the BIOS. Strangely in the BIOS the description text in the right hand column doesnt quite match the BIOS options, as the descriptions mentions extra options that arent visible (cant recall right now without shutting down!). I am booting up with the lid on the laptop closed, as I have on 3 previous generations of Thinkpad without having this issue (admittedly on analogue VGA, but I am sure at least one worked on DVI too...) Anyone else seeing this type of issue? I have searched around and seen similar issues with regard to DVI or multi-monitors, but not specifically just getting DVI output from power on.

Answer:T510 with Advanced Mini Dock 3 and DVI monitor

I know that using older models with switchable graphics this is normal behavior for all the digital ports (DVI, Displayport...), but for VGA there was no such issues. I'm not actually sure if this is normal behavior for the Optimus models as well. I never tried to reboot my optimus Thinkpad when connected to an external monitor using DVI during boot. Did you try VGA just to see if everything works fine during boot?

For the switchable graphics models you could go into BIOS and disable switchable graphics by selecting "discrete" and digital ports worked fine during boot, but then switchable graphics would be disabled as well.

As i said i'm not really sure about the behavior of optimus and maybe someone else could give you an answer, but if it's the same as optimus this would be normal behavior during boot when using the digital ports when Optimus is enabled in BIOS.

Hello community: I am using a Mini Dock Plus Series 3 docking station for my T510 for quiet a while now and never had any problem. I recently bought a second Mini Dock Series 3 docking station and experience a severe and weird problem: Whenever I connect my notebook to the docking station it is shut down cold. If it was in stand-by before it is now turned off and I have to reboot the notebook. This is a severe problem as I experience a potential data loss each time I connect the notebook as well as a time loss of course. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem and maybe knows a solution?  Kind regards, celerimo.

Answer:T510 shuts down on connection to Mini Dock Series 3

Exactly the same thing is happening for me. If I connect my t510 to the dock, or take it out, it is shut down instantly. Running Ubuntu 13.04 on this, none of the Windows using blokes here have the problem, using the same laptops with the same docks. Any ideas?

Answer:T510 not connecting to apple 30' display through mini dock

Make sure you are using a dual dvi cable and not an older single version.  You can usually tell by the amount of pins which are missing in the connector A dual link cable will have all of the pins included, while a single link digital will be missing 2 rows, and an analog only cable will have even fewer. I would also make sure that the dock supports dual link as well..  WHAT ARE SINGLE AND DUAL LINKS ?The Digital formats are available in DVI-D Single-Link and Dual-Link as well as DVI-I Single-Link and Dual-Link format connectors. These DVI cables send information using a digital information format called TMDS (transition minimized differential signaling). Single link cables use one TMDS 165Mhz transmitter, while dual links use two. The dual link DVI pins effectively double the power of transmission and provide an increase of speed and signal quality; i.e. a DVI single link 60-Hz LCD can display a resolution of 1920 x 1200, while a DVI dual link can display a resolution of 2560 x 1600.

Dear all, would like to inquire if X220 will operate with two external monitor? I'm ok to close the lid of my X220.The 4337 docks support VGA and DVI, will both work together? What's working:- I have been using x220 screen with another external monitor through VGA connection.- Connecting Dell 2340L direct to VGA works with X220 screen, not with 2 external monitor. What's not working:- Recently got a Dell 2340L which contains only VGA and HDMI, which I thought HDMI would work with an adaptor (HDMI to DVI) port - no response although the Windows 7 detects external monitor display.

I have a ThinkPad W520-4282. I want to use a ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (170W) [pn 433830U] at work and a Lenovo USB 2.0 Port Replicator with Digital Video [0A33942] at home.I did not have to install any drivers for the Mini Dock and it worked just fine driving an external monitor. After installing the driver for the Port Replicator, I could no longer drive the external monitor when attached to the mini dock or the VGA+ video port on the ThinkPad.I played with a lot of things to fix the situation and nothing worked. I even uninstalled the driver for the Port Replicator and still could not drive an external monitor. In fact the laptop did not even recognize that an external monitor was attached.Later I found using the Device Manager that the NVIDIA Qadro 1000M display adapter was disabled, proabably during installation of the Port Replicator driver. Once I enabled that, I could drive an external monitor again. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? Will I be able to use the Port Replicator if I install the driver again?

When I dock the computer and press the power button on the dock it doesn't recognize my monitor as the main screen. I have to hit a key (Windows 10) and put in my password hoping that it's doing that and then the screen comes up. If I reboot after that ... THEN.... it recognizes my screen as the main monitor. How do I fix this? The only time this happens is when I use it off the dock and then put it back on. If it stays on the dock all the time it does just fine. Any fixes for this? Thanks...

I hooked the one Acer monitor directly to the monitor port, and it works perfectly.  I then hooked the other through a Triton SS2 Extreme UV200 External DVI/VGA Video Card as was recommended for me to do so.  The Triton has a USB plug which I then connected to one of the USB ports on the back of the docking station, and loaded the software.  Everything worked great but the 2nd monitor screen enlarges everything.  So I though I could just go into the control panel and adjust that monitors settings.  However, the system is only recognizing the monitor in the monitor port of the docking station.  In the connection directions, it says the 2nd monitor has to be connected to the other USB port that is not standard and is on the far left of the back of the dock with an emblem the has 2 "+" signs stacked on each other followed by a bold "D" (I think).  I have tried to see if there is an adapter to convert the standard USB to fit this other port, and no one has been able to help me.  Does anyone have any recommendations, idea's or knowledge of how to work through this?  Thanks.

that is the Displayport, which can be converted to a DVI or VGA port using an appropriate adapter. But there is no USB adapter for the Displayport, as they use a different technology.

Hello,The laptop in question will not charge with the above mentioned dock when it previously did. If you shut down the mahcine and turn it back on when docked it works, but after this point if undocked and docked again it seems to lose it's ability to charge via the dock giving the "plugged in but not charging" message on the power system icon from the taskbar. As it stands the laptop can be charged by the AC port on the back and as mentioned when given a power cycle on the dock. The above issue happens on several docks with different power supplies. The laptop is no longer in warranty and it is possible to get this sent back and repaired (paying for the service) if that is an option. This is greatly inconvenient for the user affected and is causing disruption daily.

Just got my T510 yesterday.  I turned it on and it booted up with no problems.  I started running windows updates and other "new pc" kind of things.  I got busy with other things, and had to leave the machine for a while.  Came back, and noticed it was sleeping or hibernating or something.  The green power light was glowing off and on like it was asleep, but I could not wake it up.  I tried the power button, the track pad, the keys, cntl alt del...but nothing work.  The only thing that worked was holding the power down until it forced off. Turned it back on and it booted up like normal.  Went to the power saving settings and turned off the sleep settings, then found the manual sleep settings and put it to sleep.  Had the same trouble getting it out of sleep so had to force it off again, but again, it booted back up with no problems. This morning, I go to turn the laptop on and it won't turn on reliably.  I press the on button several different ways....holding it down for a long time, giving it a quick press, giving it 3 or 4 quick presses, press while standing on my head, etc.  However, nothing seems to work.  Then, I'll just give it a random press after I've just about given up and it will start up like normal.  It is plugged into the wall, so it doesn't seem to be a battery issue, and I have tried unplugging it from the wall and trying that as well.  I see it is getting power.  When it... Hello everyone, I just ordered a week ago a new Thinkpad W700 with the W700 Mini Dock 1.0 (43R8782) and I am still waiting anxiously to receive it. Today I have received an email from Lenovo telling me my order was modified and the Mini Dock was cancelled because of EOL (End Of Line?). I went back to the Lenovo Web site and I found the same Mini Dock still listed and available for ordering. I also found a new Mini Dock 2.0 (57Y4345) for the same price but the 170W power supply (41R4421) is not included. The power supply cost an additional 100$. Of course there is NO difference between the old model and the new one beside the fact that the power supply is not included anymore. Now I do understand Lenovo need to make some money somewhere, but isn't against the law to do something like this? I do think here in Quebec there is something called false representation or taking advantages of the customer? If the new docking station was alot cheaper I would probably bite the bullet and just order it, but this is crazy. Am I the only one here that think that there is a problem with this? Especially since I already placed my order in good faith and even when they tell me it's not available anymore it's still listed as available on the website? What can I do about this? Thanks for your thoughts. Alain HogueMontreal, Qc ------------------------Current Laptop: Thinkpad A31p, Pentium 4 - 2Ghz, 100GB HD, 2GB RAM, 1600x1200, Win XP S... Answer:ThinkPad W700 Mini Dock 2.0

ahogue,

Thanks for purchasing the W700....I do not think you will be disappointed.

To answer your question, there is a difference between the two versions of the Port Rep.

From the product description, there is the following line:

Supports ThinkPad 170-watt and 230-watt AC adapters

This version of the Port Rep will also support the new 230-watt power supply for the next generation of W700.  Since this Port Rep supports two different power supplies for two different generations of W700, you would use the AC adapter that came with your system.

One reason being....you would not want to dock your 170-watt W700 to a 230-watt power supplied Port Rep...it was not designed for that amount of current.

I'm not sure why the older Port Rep would still be available for purchase if you received an email stating it was End of Life.  Sounds to me like the sales website needs to be updated.  If you could, send me a PM with the contents of the email you received and I can make some inquiries.

Regards

Hi I'm trying to figure out whether the mini dock 4337 supports triple display configurations. There seems to be confusing information in your documentation: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-76617 - This page says that with Optimus enabled systems, triple display configurations are supported.http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-72871 - This page says "any two of the three video ports can be used simultaneously" Which one's correct? Or am I reading them wrong? My thinkpad T410 has Optimus enabled. Second question: Using a DVI cable to connect the mini doc to the external monitor doesn't work. I have just set up a new T500 with the Advanced Mini Dock. I am using a Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard. They are connected through one of the USB ports on the dock. The problem I am experiencing is the USB ports aren't working on the dock during start-up so I can not use my mouse and keyboard to unlock the computer. The Mini Dock "instructions" were less than helpful for trouble shooting. Am I doing something wrong, missing something or do I have a bad dock? If I plug my Logitech receiver directly into the computer I can unlock and start-up, then the ports work on the dock but that kind of defeats the purpose of having the dock.

The whole idea of having the dock is to allow the laptop and dock to be 'out of the way' at the back corner of the desk and simply access it with an external keyboard; mouse; and LCD display. Ideally, when it is in use on my desk, I do not want to have to open up the display. Therein lies my problem. The external display is connected to the VGA connector on the mini-dock and when I start the laptop by pressing the power button on the mini-dock, NOTHING shows on the monitor. The external keyboard; Mouse and network connection all work just fine on the dock - my only problem is the display. I have to open up the display, wait for the login screen; press the Windows key - P combination to pop up the display "chooser'; select "Duplicate" and press enter before the external display will work. This is extremely inconvenient. Is there ANY way to have the display automatically come up on the external monitor when the machine boots up in the dock? I have owned several other machine/dock combinations, including ones by Toshiba; H-P; Gateway and Dell and have NEVER run into this type of problem before. All I want is for the T410 to start up on its interna... Read more

Answer:Thinkpad T410 and Mini dock 4337

Hi, welcome to the forum!

You have to access the Bios setup for this to work.
If I remember the T410 Bios correctly, there is the menu "Config". Pressing enter you will see the submenu "Display". There you can adjust the T410 to send image to Analog (VGA), Digital on Thinkpad and Digital on dock. Try Analog first. After you select it press F10 to save and reboot, see what happens.

I hope it solves your problem, please post back your results!

I have a 2504 Advanced mini-dock in the office and it works fine.I've bought another 2504 FRU 41W6563 for home. It only seems to part work though. When you put the machine in the dock the power supply is detected from the mini-dock, but nothing else seems to work, especially the USB ports, even if I shutdown Windows, and reboot. With the switch in the unlocked position, there is no green light, when you switch it to locked, the red light comes on.I'm confused if this is the right mini-dock - Can anyone help or suggest anything? My Thinkpad is a T61, 7659-A71

HiI don't have a solution, but a similar problem. I wish there was some real documentation for this piece of hardware.I am using the advanced mini-dock with my new T61 (14.1" with the integrated graphics card) and it's all hit-and-miss.Undocking the laptop seems to provide no problems, but getting it to dock really is hit and miss. More often than not it doesn't seem to work. The display setting won't switch, and I can't get to the display manager or if I can it shows only the default setting as the choice. Most of the time the display on my T61 is blank too.I have it set up so that it's supposed to switch to the external DVI monitor at 1280x1024. When it works it work beautifully, but the fact that it doesn't makes me use the docking station less oftenthat I wouldAre there some do's and don'ts or a FAQ regaring the use of the docking station? The only instructions that came with it was one sheet of drawings. I looked on the lenovo site for more instructions but didn't find any. What is the purpose of the power switch on the dock? I can't tell when it's on or off (or if it even does something). Ie when the T61 isn't docked, I don't see anything if I push the power button on the dock.I really like the idea of the docking station, I just wish it would work better for me.Does the system have to be up and running if it's docked? I can find no Lenovo documentation anywhere that explains how to use the two buttons, numbered1 and 2, in the upper left-hand corner of this docking station. Button 2 is the large, square, eject button. If I understand correctly, if I want to eject my Thinkpad (T500)from the dock, I first choose an eject command somewhere in software, then press this buttonto mechanically eject the computer from the dock. Correct? Button 1, just above Button 2, is a thin, rectangular, metal switch of the kind you'd use to engage anddisengage functions on an audio receiver. I have no idea how to use it or what it's for. Can someone explain?

Answer:Buttons 1 and 2 on ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock

The button that is listed as "1" is to send the command to undock the laptop from the dock. The button listed as "2" is the physical eject button.  These buttons work with the Lenovo Easy Eject software that is installed on the laptop.  To use the buttons, you simply press the button "1" and the light will flash for a moment then it will switch to button "2".  Once button "2" is lit, then you press it to eject. Hope this helps you.

Hi meng, Welcome to the Lenovo forum. You are correct, the X3100 GPU can display (only) two screens at a time. If you need more screens, you could use a USB-DVI converter like this one. Another member reports good results with it in this thread. Cheers,Frank

I have a simple question, Can I run 2 external monitors using the Ultrabase series 3 with the X230 docked and the lid open? My goal is to be able to see basically 3 displays. The main one would be the laptop and the other two extended monitors connected to the dock stations. One connected with VGA cable and the other with display port cable. Any help is appreciated.  Sebastiano

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

Hi, I'm interested in the new T520.I'm in Germany and the german shop offers 2 versions of the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (UK or Italy)Whats the difference between the UK and the Italy Version ? Both countrys have other power-plugs than we have in Germany. So which one is right for me? The description fir the Moni Dock Plus says: "Multiple video ports: 1 VGA monitor, 2 DVI, 2 DisplayPort (Note that the video controller allows for any two video ports to be used simultaneously)"Is that 2 ports in adition to the ThinkPad's display? Can I use 3 Screens (Thinkpad +  2 at the dock) or only 2 (any configuration). ThanksTino

Answer:ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 UK / Italy difference?

I think the difference would be in the power adapter plug type, but each should be compatible with your machine. The series 3 plus dock came in 3 flavours in general:1. 90 w adapter type2. 135 w adapter type (for the W510 machine and also compatible with machines used on the 90 w type).3. 170 w adapter type (for the W520 and compatible with the 135 watt and 90 watt adapter type machines). You can support 4 screens if your T520 came with Nvidia Optimus technology, in that case you can use the 1 vga, any 2 of the DVI/Displayport, and one internal LCD (or displayport on the laptop). If you get the intel version, then you only support 2 external LCD, or one external LCD with one internal LCD.

Hi, I use T430s + ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 ? 90W for quite a while. However, I always have a problem with the USB 3.0 port on the dock. I can connect a USB 3.0 HDD to this port and achieve 100MB of transfer speed. However, whenever I try to transfer large files like 4GB ISO file or using Windows Backup on my Windows 8/8.1, it will very soon fail and the USB 3.0 HDD will be disconnected. The large file transfer or backup never succeed.I can complete above tasks using T430s onboard USB 3.0 ports without any problem. It is just the USB 3.0 port on the dock that does not do the job. I contacted Lenovo Taiwan and they simply replace a new one for me.The problem persists with the new dock. Can anyone share some insights on this issue? Million thanks!

Hello! Im having a little problem with my docking station. ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3. Seems like the DisplayPort does not work. I use dual 1440p monitors from Phillips and want to connect both with DP as the DVI is single-link only. I have one of the monitors plugged in the MiniDP on the side of T430 so i got that working wich is nice.  Is there some kind of firmware or something i need to install to get the DP working on the docking station? Cant remember i have ever done this and as far as i know it ha never worked... Always used it with a single 24" monitor with VGA. Thanks.

Answer:T430 with ThinkPad Mini dock series 3 DisplayPort ...

This issue is driving me crazy!  I bought new DisplayPort Monitors for T430s ThinkPads using the Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I have 4 identical laptops.  Same software and drivers with two Monitors.  One on the Dock DisplayPort and the other Monitor on the PC Mini DisplayPort.   Three laptops work perfectly.  The forth one blinks! I do have a newer T430s with the Invidia Graphics card that has the same symptoms, but I have come to the conclusion that Lenovo does not support multiple monitors with that version.  Lenovo, Please tell me there is a firmware update for the Type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 dock.  I saw the link for the T540 dock firmware update.  Will it work on the Series 3 dock?

So I currently have a Lenovo T430s Thinkpad and the Mini Dock Plus Series 3. The problem im having is that when the power cable is plugged into the dock and the laptop is mounted, my battery will not charge. Battery icon says "Plugged in, Charging" but i can see the battery percentage slowly draining. Usb ports, power button on the dock, secondary monitor and everything else seems to be working just fine. Laptop Charges just fine when "undocked". I initially thought it was a bad battery so i purchased a brand new genuine lenovo battery and still the same. Did an online search and cant find a solution to the problem. This all happened after I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64. Anyone know a solution? im all out of ideas.

Hi again,as some of you know, I am using a SL500. I have got the Enhanced USB Port Replicator (43R8788). This thing is unusable. Of cause it lacks different interfaces. But the worst thing is that it supports only monitors up to a resolution of 1280x1024 pixels (It's enough to drive you up the wall). Now my question: Is there another dock for the SL500? What about the ThinkPad Advanced Mini Dock - Europe (39T4587)? Does it fit to my notebook? If you have hints for me I would be pleasant to replay to this posting. Thanks.

Hi, I've got a Thinkpad Mini Dock Series 3 and a T410. After not using the dock for ~3 months while I was away from home, I re returned and attempted to use it only to find that there were several connectivity issues with it: 1) The DVI connection does not work at all.2) The DisplayPort connection requires me to fiddle with it every time to get my T410 to recognize it.3) The audio jack is only giving me sound from my left speakers. This is really frustrating, particularly how I have to fiddle with the DisplayPort connection every time, because I have 2 external monitors. Has anyone run into these issues before? Thanks!

I have a Thinkpad T510 (4384-2RU) running Windows XP and have been experiencing this problem since the day I got it. If I have headphones connected to the audiojack, and then I put the laptop to sleep, after I wake it up again, the sound is gone. Bear in mind that I normally wake it up without having the headphones connected anymore. Sometimes, if I re-connect the headphones, the sound comes back, I can then disconnect them and sound would come out of the normal laptop speakers with no problem. But most times, even if I reconnect the headphones, the audio doesn't come back. I am forced to reboot which is highly annoying. Why does this happen? I have seen that if I wake up the laptop with the headphones still connected, then I don't experience the problem. Also, if put it to sleep without having headphones connected, I also don't have the problem. I have narrowed this down to having audio crashing if I put it to sleep with headphones in, then waking it up without them. This is not how it's supposed to work, I should be able to have audio at all times regardless of whether I have headphones connected to the jack or not. Please note that a solution won't be installing Windows 7, this is a company laptop and they won't let me update the software. How can I fix this problem so it doesn't happen again?

Answer:No audio after resuming from SLEEP on a Thinkpad T510

This happens because the laptop goes to sleep with the speakers disabled and the headphones powered on. To prevent this from happening disconnect the headphones before putting the machine to sleep.

I have a ThinkPad T510 (Windows 7 - 64 bit) paired with a ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (US/Canada/LA).  Occasionally, I will lose connectivity with my external mouse and keyboard that are connected to the dock.  Sometimes, connectivity is restored automatically.  Other times, I am forced to restart the machine by actually opening laptop and using the on-board keyboard and touchpad.   I cannot find any updated drivers for the dock for Windows 7.   My other ThinkPad (T61p - Windows 7 32 bit) does not encounter the same problems with its ThinkPad Mini Dock.

Answer:T430 on ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3, no output on DVI port

Hi, pili189012

When you attempt to connect the DVI input, does anything happen? What model of monitor/TV are you trying to connect the DVI to? Finally, when the DVI cable is connected to the dock and to the external device, does anything change in the Screen Resolution screen? (To navigate here, right-click on the Desktop and select Screen Resolution from the list.) How many monitors are listed here?

Best,
Adam

I know it's just been released, but I was wondering if anyone could answer the following: Based on the page here: Dock Reference Guides The X220 works with the Mini Dock Plus Series 3. The reason I'm wondering is that I really would like the option of having two external displays when the laptop is docked (with the laptop display turned off), and it seems like this should work, but I can't find anything definitely whether or not the X220 can drive 2 external displays (the intel video card should be able to do it, but I'd like to know before pulling the trigger, as unfortunately, dual displays is sort of a requirement.) Does anyone know if this is doable?

no you can't use it, you would need to use the mini dock series 3 170 watt, have a look here:http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Dock-compatibility-table-for-W500-W510-W520/ta-...

The dvi out port itself doesn't support WQXGA, if you need the dual link support you would need an active displayport to dual link dvi adapter.

do you have the optimus nvidia model? if you do, then you have to switch to discrete only in the bios menu, to be able to see the boot up screen in your dvi attached screen.

Everything I find suggests that this is a possibility, but i can't get any traction. Backstory: I had a previous setup where I used the laptop display in addition to two external monitors. One of the external monitors was coupled to the VGA port and the other to one of the two DVI ports. Worked fine. What I want: I bought a third monitor as a substitute for the laptop display. I want to close the laptop and use three external displays connected to the DOCKING STATION. I have tried every possible arrangement, but I can't get three displays going.  VGA, DVI, DVI doesn't work.VGA, DVI, DisplayPort doesn't work.DVI, DVI, DisplayPort doesn't work. No matter what arrangement I go with, the monitor that is hooked up to the Displayport (on the docking station) gets NO SIGNAL. Even when I disconnect everything except DisplayPort and reboot, I still can't get a signal on the Displayport. Oddly, the "System Topology" under the nvidia control panel is recognizing the monitor. Under DisplayPort(3), it says "Connected: Lenovo Group Limited LEN LT2452pwC". Unfortunately, there is no signal reaching the monitor itself. As I said, my ultimate goal is to get three monitors coupled to my docking station. At the moment, I can't get the DisplayPort to work under any circumstances. Equipment:Thinkpad W530 with nvidia quadro k2000mmini dock plus series 3 with the following outputs: VGA, DisplayPort/DVI #1, DisplayPort/DVI #2.monitor 1: Lenovo LT2452 with VGA ... Bit of a multi display novice, with a question: What is the maximum number of external displays that can be utilized with the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W. As I understand it, you can baseline connect three external displays without adapters, so with the laptop that is three monitors (1+3).  Then say you start getting creative and start using adapters, can you go up to five or six external displays? Are there performance issues? Does the computer have trouble recognizing displays, etc.? Would it benefit from a screen management program like UltraMon? This is for simple excel jockeying, and business productivity, (for instance I would want to have a display for each instance of Excel 1, Excel 2, Excel 3, Word,  Outlook, PDF),  and would use the NVidia Optimus Card for the displays.

Answer:Maximum Multiple Monitors with ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W (4338-30U)

Depending on which ThinkPad you got, you can get 3 screens up and working (the W530 i tested could drive 4 external + 1 internal without using things like DP splitter or USB display adapter).

I just got a Thinkpad X220 and the "Thinkpad mini dock plus series 3". When the x220 is placed into the station only the monitor display works and it charges the x220. However, the "Startup button" in the dock in the dock never lights up and doesn't work; None of the USB ports work; And the speaker "port" doesn't pass sound. If I connect all the external USB, sound, etc. directly to the laptop ports (not the dock ports) they all work. I can't find anything that would help me troubleshoot this. It's probably obvious. Any ideas?

The ThinkPad Multiple Monitor Configurations pdf (LINK) says the DVI port  on thinkpad Mini Dock Series 3 only support up to 1920x1200, but I would like to connect the DVI-D port to a external monitor with 2560x1600 resolution.  Will it work?  I am planning to buy a T420 with a discrete Nvidia Optimus video card and a mini dock series 3.  Yes, I can't use the display port because the external monitor only have DVI-D port.  I knew that the DVI-D port is able to support 2560x1600 resolution as long as the video card support it, I don't understand why the DVI-D port on the thinkpad mini dock series 3 can only support  up to 1920x1200 even though the Nvidia Optimus Technology is powful enough. Please share your experience and suggestions.  thanks.

Have been happily running windows 10 - with dual monitors, but since a recent update, the system once re-docked will no longer re-detect that it using different monitors. Previously i could use it:1. Un-docked - at 1600 x 9002. then when i put it to sleep3. Then dock it and resumed:     it would     a) switch to 1920 x 1080, and     b) also detect and display on the second monitor - no intervention required. Now, it remains in it's prior "state" (it neither changes state nor outputs to the second monitor) - only outputting to the first external monitor - but at 1600 x 900. Thus since a recent change, it is not "re-detecting" the "change in state" on resume, ONLY when i now do a full restart. The update may have been a Windows update, but on the same day i also installed a Toshiba Dynadock - with dual display port support. I have used the Lenovo system update to update the driver - now it is at 10.18.10.4425 - and as the driver loaded the monitors re-detected, and corrected - but later the problem is persisting. Does anyone know how to force the driver to re-detect on resume not just on restart? Or is this a "consequence of doing things in a certain order" System:Lenovo T430s laptop -HD Graphics 4000  version 10.18.10.4425 (from Lenovo System Update)UPDATED: to 10.18.10.4653 - 7/4/2017with a Lenovo ThnikPad Usb 3.0 Pro Dock (dual HDMI/DVI ports)dual BenQ GL2450 monitors.

After a clean install of Windows 10 Anniversary edition, I had an issue with my Thinkpad Yoga not resuming from sleep, requiring a hard reboot every time. I made sure to perform the updates in the support article ThinkPad Yoga cannot wake up from sleep mode but those didn't help. The ultimate solution was to downgrade the Intel Management Engine Interface driver to the 9.x version from Lenovo's site. The default Windows 10 installation installed version 11.x of that driver, which apparently causes this issue with failing to resume. (Note that the Lenovo System Update tool does not identify this as a needed update since the Lenovo driver version is older, so you have to download and apply the older driver manually.) After doing this, the system now sleeps and resumes perfectly. Hopefully this can help someone else, and maybe the above support article could be updated to include this advice too.

Question says it all for the most part.  Just got my Yoga 260.  Works great expect it will NEVER wake from sleep.  this is a huge problem obviously as I have to do a hard reboot by holding hte power button in until it dies then press again to boot the machine. power light blinks just as it should in sleep but nothing will allow it to wake except holding power button down doing a hard shutdown then reboot.  Anyone have a fix for this?  Thanks.

My T420i won't wake up after going to sleep (using Fn F4 or close the laptop or time out).  The computer was wiped clean and reinstalled with only Windows 7 professional and some Levono softwares.  BIOS, windows and all drivers are up to date.  The only way to get it back is hold the power button to reboot it.  When it reboots, i get improperly windows shut down error.

Answer:ThinkPad T420i won't wake up after going to sleep.

Any chance Lenovo Power Management driver or Hotkey Features package are not installed? With those applications Fn key should work for the laptop resume.

I bought a new Thinkpad Yoga 14 (20DM/Broadwell). Gorgeous machine, but it refuses to wake from sleep on a keypress or click on the trackpad. It will wake up if I close and re-open it. I updated all of the drivers and the bios using Lenovo's utilities and Windows System Update. When that didn't work, I tried updating the Intel Integrated graphics drivers and GeForce drivers with the latest packages from Intel and NVIDIA, downgraded the Intel Management Engine to version 10, and disabled hybrid sleep. No dice. So I resorted to a clean re-install of Windows 10 from a USB key and updated all of the Lenovo drivers (again) using ThinkVantage System Update. "Allow this device to wake the computer" was and is checked in the Device Manager for both the keyboard and trackpad. Is there anything I can do to get it working? Only a couple days left to figure this out before my return period ends.

Hi, I've got two thinkpad lenovo S1, one works fine when going to sleep but with the other one I've been having a problem for a number of months now and it's becoming more frustating. Basically, I'm using the laptop then I leave it for doing something else and when I come, it's gone to sleep. Fine, the problem is that I can see the 'red light' blinking but if I press any key or I press the power button for a little while the laptop doesn't wake up. It just keeps with the blinking red light.  Sometimes, not many, it does wake up but the others, I have to press the power button for a long period, switch the laptop off and start again, losing all my sessions and opened windows in the process.  Any idea what could be causing this issue and what I can try to have it sorted? Thank you guys!

If go into sleep mode, either my closing lid, holding power button, or using the  Windows 10  Start/Power/Sleep option, then after going into sleep mode, never will come out of it.  Doesn't matter if I try to come out of it 5 seconds later or an hour later, just blank screen with power button stuck on green.  No activity, just frozen. I have updated to latest bios  v1.20 and also updated the display driver.   Please help, just got this computer and crazy can't even use it because can easily go into sleep mode if walk away, etc.

Answer:Thinkpad L450 won't wake up after sleep - Windows ...

There have been a been a number of systems that don't resume from sleep under Windows 10 properly as expected, so I don't think this is likely to be a problem specific to the L450.  Sounds like updating the BIOS was a good step. Have you tried to update the Windows 10 power management driver?  That might be a good next step if you haven't already tried it.http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-L-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-L45... Worth a shot..

Hi,In the last few months or so (possibly after I updated the BIOS), when I put my T430 into sleep mode when plugged in, it does not wake up. If it is not pluged in and I put it to sleep (in both cases by closing the lid) then it wakes up fine. When plugged in, I changed the power settings so that it will hibernate when plugged in but it takes long to do this so I prefer if the sleep mode were to work again. I'm running Windows 7 Professional. BIOS Version/Date LENOVO G1ET94WW (2.54 ), 22/04/2013Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3520M CPU @ 2.90GHz, 2901 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)BIOS Version/Date LENOVO G1ET94WW (2.54 ), 22/04/2013System Model 2344CTOIntel(R) HD Graphics 4000, Driver version 9.17.10.2843Display Driver: NVIDIA NVS 5400M, Driver version 9.18.13.697Network adapter: Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection, Driver version 11.15.16.0Centrino-Advanced N6205, driver version 15.4.1.1 I looked in the forums and there are similar problems but can't find a solution. Thanks, Shafiq

Answer:ThinkPad T430 - Cannot wake up from sleep if plugged in

Hi, Shafiq

I have a few questions to gain more clarification about your issue: FIrstly, does the issue arise when you attempt to wake the system from sleep while plugged in, or is it an issue where if you put it to sleep while plugged in, you will not be able to wake the machine?

Also, do you use Windows for the power settings or are you using Lenovo Power Manager?

Thanks in advance,Adam

Hi all, There are a number of posts regarding issues with power save: Not able to go to sleep mode, reboot etc.  I have completely lost an overview of where this solution was presented, so here's a recap of what worked for me: I have been digging through many posts on both here and on some of the other manufacturer's forum pages. I think the problem is in a large part related to the intel management engine version 11. Downgrading this to version 10 seem to solve the power management issue completely.  It isn't difficult to fix and should take you about 10 minutes.Note: I am writing this guide from a danish version of windows 10, so some of the translations may seem odd / wrong on a native english windows 10.Note: Your PC might explode, earth might be invaded by aliens if you follow my steps, so do it at you own risk, I am not responsible for any troubles you might run into afterwards! Go to Settings -> System -> Apps and functions. Find Intel Management Engine Interface and uninstall it.Go to http://support.lenovo.com/dk/da/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-... and download the exeInstall it and reboot. I tried to go to power immediately afterwards and it didn't work, but it did after a reboot.Your yoga should be able to sleep once again.(optional) Use a tool from microsoft to disable updates to the management engine interface.   https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930Open th... Whenever my laptop goes into hibernation and sometimes during sleep, it is non reponsive when I try to wake it up. This happens on both Vista Ultimate and XP Professional. What's the solution to this problem? Is it a planar problem? Thanks.

Answer:Thinkpad T61p can't wake up after hibernating /sleep on both Xp and Vista

I have the exact same trouble, its crazy frustrating. I'm running a T61p with vista ultimate sp1. It has been doing this sense I got it and before sp1 came out. It?s like it is stuck somewhere between sleep mode and actually working. It is not fully in either, just glitched somewhere in between.

I am looking to buy either an X220 or X230 Thinkpad laptop and have been reading the forums here for information about wake from sleep issues for these two machines. I have found a lot on the X220 - seems to be a common problem, so I am now thinking that isn't going to be my choice. My questions for those who may have experienced this with an X230: -is the wake from sleep a common issue with the X230 laptop?-is this more of a SSD issue than a regular HHD?-is this related to the amount of RAM installed?-is this more of a Win 7 issue? If so, any version that is more susceptible? I had an HP laptop that finally was unusable due to this issue and want to avoid that with a new laptop. I really like the features and size of the x230 - and that I can still get Win 7. Any input on how often the X230 has this type of issue - and any solutions that have worked - would be greatly appreciated, as I really am reluctant to have history repeated with this wake from sleep issue. Thanks!HL

My laptop isn't charging when I plug the adaptor in to the back of the dock.  When I'm on the dock with the adaptor plugged into the laptop, if  I hover over the green battery icon in the system tray, it tells me I should plug in the dock: "AC power is detached from your docking station.  For proper battery charging and docking station operation, connect the AC adaptor to the docking station." I'm not supposed to use two separate power adaptors, am I? (One for the dock and one for the laptop)?I think I might have a bad dock.

Answer:Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - Do I have to plug in both the dock and the laptop, or just the dock?

No, you only need to plug the dock in. When I remove the AC adaptor from my dock, the dock stops working completely -- display port shuts down and the green light next to the dock's power button turns off. Do you have a 90 watt adaptor plugged into the dock? It sounds like you have a bad dock or docking connector.
