Lenovo Thinkpad T510 body cleaning

Question: Lenovo Thinkpad T510 body cleaning

Hey so I just got a T510 and I have realized that the back of my laptop is full of my finger prints due to opening and closing the screen. Now my question is, what cleaning tools do I use to wipe it off and make it look brand new again? This is probably the only thing I hate about this laptop, that every time you touch it, it leaves a mark Please help me ! Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi and welcome to the forum!I use a microfiber cloth and small chunk of water to clean my gears, but if something is really dirty and can't be cleaned through water then I apply tiny amount of soap to the wet cloth. There are many products available in the market too, but I don't trust any, YMMV.Lenovo Blogs has some tips too:- http://lenovoblogs.com/designmatters/?p=121Hope it helps.

Hello! I have a ThinkPad T510 on a Windows 7 Pro OS.In the 'Windows Update' section of my Control Panel, it reads, 'LCD, Other Hardware - LCD 1600x900'. What is this? I have searched on the Lenovo website and it finds nothing. The Lenovo products are fantastic. The Website is another matter. The website needs an overhaul. What is this LCD, Other Hardware - LCD 1600x900?  Thanks

I just got back to my relatively new laptop and it had shutdown after a BSOD. Any ideas on what this could be would be great. Here are some details about my computer:

lenovo thinkpad t510
intel i7 620m
nvidia nvs3100m
windows 7 pro 32 bit (original installed OS)
very new hardware/software

I have re installed windows 7, as I needed two partitions

I have attached a zip

thanks

Answer:Bsod on lenovo thinkpad t510

Hi and welcome to SF!

This is a pretty common issue with window 7. One of the thing I would like you to try is to do a system file check:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You have some out of date driver:

Code:
Tppwr32v Tppwr32v.sys Thu Jun 12 21:27:57 2008 (4851DB2D)
ibmpmdrv ibmpmdrv.sys Thu May 31 04:52:39 2007 (465E9AE7)
smiif32 smiif32.sys Mon May 12 04:01:06 2008 (48280752)
psadd psadd.sys Mon Feb 19 12:56:45 2007 (45D9F2ED)
The first 2 drivers are belonged to Lenovo thinkpad Power manager drivers. Please download a newest version and install. I used to do that with my computer and it fixed the BSODs.

The 3rd driver I listed is belonged to SMI Driver for Lenovo system and the last one is belonged to Lenovo Parties Service Access Device Driver (SMBIOS). It can be an utility from Lenovo, take your time and find it on the lenovo driver website.

If none of the option work, I would go for a repair install
Here is one of the thread I used to work on, looks exactly the same as yours

I recently (about 2 months ago) purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad T510 laptop. Ever since I got it, I have the brightness on 50%, and only use it to surf the internet. My battery life is 2:50 at the maximum.I have a warrenty for the laptop, could I call in and get another battery for free?It is quite inconvienent to have to charge and recharge at least twice every day. It makes portability almost impossible.

Dear Lenovo Community, I would like to ask for some help as my beloved Lenovo Thinkpad T510 died 2-3 days ago. I was trying to boot it up and it seems that it would no longer boot. When I press the "power on" button on the keyboard, I see the LED on for a very short duration and then it goes off. When I remove the keyboard, I can see that the fan starts speeding up and then all of a sudden stops. A few seconds later, the LED goes on for a very short while along with the fan, and then off again. I cannot even get to the initial boot screen. I wonder what would cause it and how to pin the issue down. Any help is very much appreciated. I liked my Lenovo laptop even if I have not always handled it as gently as it would have deserved that! Could it be the motherboard that is faulty, or perhaps the VGA card? The laptop has no beeps, so I cannot assume which part of the self-test fails if it is the self-test at all! Thank you very much in advance, L.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T510 will not boot

Welcome, lpappIt might be a RTC battery (CMOS battery) issue. Try to replace it, or simly disconnect it for the boot test. Note, you'll lost current BIOS settings (date, time..)

Click keys are acting up, sometimes with both right click keys not working, and othertimes with the left click key operating like the right click key, with the right click key not working at all, and therefore no traditional left click key operation available.  This issue affects both the red lined click keys and the touchpad click keys.  .. Thoughts? Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T510 click keys defective

External mouse does not have this issue. Does this prove it's a hardware issue and not software?  It's odd that it would be only the click keys of both sets of click keys  on the laptop?  No other keys affected.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here so pm me if you have questions because I will blow through this quickly: Have you installed/upgraded to win 10? do you have no bluetooth driver or even the option to get it? Well I took 2-3 hours to figure it out so you don't have to! First make sure that bluetooth is enabled in your bios (F1 at startup) the setting is tucked away in there, mine was diabled for some reason. Second install the "universal" win 10 DRIVER from Intel which is NOT ON THE SUPPORT SITE: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/25172/eng/WP-BT_17.1.1529.1613_t64.exe Third: Download and install this overlay key crap that lenovo has on thier support site called on screen display (for win 10) can't find it, the site had crashed for me. Fourth: restart computer Fif: launch C:\DRIVERS\HOTKEY\OSD\F5\TpFnF5.exe and use the gui to enable bluetooth A bluetooth icon should pop on your home bar tool tray, led should also come on indicating it is active, and also under devices in windows 10 you should be able to toggle it on and pair devices (you can also get there by double clicking the icon)  thank me now or later, but lenovo's support for windows 10 compliantcy is disgusting. I love my T510 and only this once has let me down. bad lenovo, BAD!

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad T510 Windows 10 bluetooth not show...

I'll thank you now. I had them same issue as you on my T510 and figured there's got to be a driver out there somewhere. Couldn't find anything in Lenovo support and no reference to any testing or pending support for T510 with windows 10. Your solution worked. I checked BIOS and found it was enabled for bluetooth. All I did after that was step 2 in your post and got the driver. At that point I thought I'd just give it a go and see what happens. Went to the TpFnF5.exe (on my computer it was in  C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\HOTKEY\OSD\F5\TpFnF5.exe) launched it, turned on the bluetooth radio and was back in business. Connected to a bluetooth boombox and it worked no problem.  I put a shortcut to that file in my task bar so I don't need to screw around with getting the F5 hotkey going. Upgraded to windows 10 5 days ago. So far everything I normally use on the T510 is working properly. Unless the thing blows up tomorrow, I don't know why Lenovo so far hasn't supported it for win 10. Thanks again.

I purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad T510 this summer. After only one day of use, I encountered a series of blue screens. I called the Lenovo hotline which had my machine picked up a day later. I then I waited several days after which I got my machine back. The hardware repair people told me that they were not able to localize the cause of the blue screens so they simply exchanged the hard disk and the memory. After another day's use, the series of blue screens started to come up again so that I had to complain one more time. Now, the Lenovo hotline people treated me very rudely, they blamed the faulty behavior of the machine on me and they would even hang up the phone. I had to call several times until I finally had someone on the phone who told me to ask for an exchange of the machine. As nobody answered my corresponding e-mail, I had to call several more times - nobody ever wanted to accept responsability. After some more days, I was in contact with a decision maker of Lenovo who agreed on exchanging my faulty machine. Sure enough I had to send it in which caused considerable costs. After another day I was sent a new machine. Believe it or not - on the very day of arrival of the new machine, the series of blue screens would start again. Sure enough, I called again - only to experience the already known, rude behavior of the hotline people. As I know that the hotline is still run in the background by IBM, I tried to find support from IBM directly. The experience that I m... Read more

Sorry to hear about your T510 experience.  From your first description of the problem, I was inclined to suspect a bad graphics card/chipset.  There is no excuse for rudeness, but it seems to be prevalent these days. I took delivery of my T510 in July.  I upgraded the OS to Win 7 Ultimate, and then upgraded the HDD to the new Seagate Momentus XT 320GB. My graphics combo is the Lenovo 15.7-in LED (1900x600) display, driven by the NVIDIA NVS 3100video system I also added the Ultrabay III adapter to swap with the optical drive, and have a second 320GB data drive for music and photos. Everything has performed perfectly, - never so much as a hiccup. I also have a Lenovo T60 which has performed perfectly for over 2 years.

Hello guys, I want to buy this laptop with following configuration: Procesor: i7Model: 620MFrequency: 2660 MhzMemory: 4096 MBMemory Frequency: 1066 MhzMemory type: DDR3Storage: 500 GB Hard disk (7200 RPM) The laptop will be used to running complex queries in SQL Server (as client) and different applications in same time and for this is required a performant laptop. My question: is enough performant the above model for what we need? I know there are cheaper alternative from other brands but we have to use Lenovo. Is worth 2200-2300$ this model or can we find an i5 processor alternative (also cheaper) with same performance? Thank you for your effort.

Not for the first time I've been attempting to remove some of the pre-installed stuff on my Thinkpad E335 Win 7 Pro x64 and once again doing so has rendered the system unusable. I'm not talking about trial software versions and so on - there was none of that unwanted stuff on this machine - but there are a lot of Lenovo system utilities which cause it to be rather sluggish starting up though perhaps less so once up and running. I also installed Win 8.1 on the system and there is a marked contrast in responsiveness, Win 8.1 being far the lighter footed. Yet 8.1 has none of these system utilities which to my mind says simply that they are not necessary. Yet it seems they are so integrated into Win 7 that removing them damages 7 itself.

So, unless Lenovo users are confident of their ability to recover a borked system, I strongly advise not trying to remove any of this stuff and I'm also wondering how the upcoming Win 10 upgrade will deal with all these integrated utilities. If I only had the original Win 7 system I would be treading very carefully.

I don't know whether Lenovo are alone adding all this system management stuff - I guess not - so other makes might need to be treated carefully too.

Answer:Cleaning up a Lenovo Thinkpad

Lenovo is not alone, all the manufacturers are bundling software they think we need. I wish hardware manufacturers would only supply us with the necessary drivers and leave the rest to us. Afterall, we only need sites like MajorGeeks that tests and hosts software programs. And there's the Support Forums with invaluable advice.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post here, I hope anyone can help me. I recently bought refurbised Lenovo ThinkPad X1 model 1294-A2Y and everything worked fine until I opened it. The reason for opening was looking for battery info, since the battery I got with the laptop was bad and I wanted to replace it. Here's what I did, i opened all as instructed, unscrewd all the parts, take the keyboard off but i didn't touch the processor cooling system. Than I put it all back together. When I pushed the power on button nothing happened, the laptop won't turn on. Than i tare it apart again, plug the battery and the power cord off and pressed the power on button for 20 seconds. After pluging the battery and the power cord laptop started fine, but the problem is that it works only for a few minutes and than turns off all of a sudden. And than it won't start again, and I need to tare all apart in order to turn it off again. Did anyone had a similar situation? Can anyone help me with this? Thank you in advance

Hey,I've had my Thinkpad T510 for a little over a year now and have never given it a good, deep cleaning. Any tips on getting the keyboard clean? I figured out how to pop off the keys but there is a lot of lint and fiber stuck around the rubber cones and under the white plastic pieces that the keys pop onto. I'm also curious as to how to clean the fan. I'd also like to know how to get the battery to last longer. I can only seem to get about three hours out of it. What settings would give me good battery life without leaving my screen too dark to read? Any tips on battery life and battery preservation will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Cleaning T510 and battery power

Popping off keys and the scissor switch mechanism for cleaning can be a haphazard thing and may lead to damages. So you got to be very careful not to damage the parts whilst popping them off the keyboard.Cleaning fan tutorial is here: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/T60-T61-Fan-Cleaning-Replacement/ta-p/247...Regarding battery, that would depend on the spec of your CPU/GPU and the size of the battery itself (i.e. 6 cells or 9 cells, etc).

Hi all, I decided to pop off a few keys on the t510 model thinkpad to clean under the keyboard. I carefully removed the keys and i made sure the hinge mechanisms are intact and the metal are all intact. but i noticed after placing the keys back, the N key is "clicky" as in if i click it lets say in the upper left hand side of the key, the key depressing makes a "clicky" noise, while the other keys on the laptop all make the sort of dull sound when you depress the keys. the weird thing is that if i press the N key in a different region of the key, the sound does not come up...does that mean that the mechanism under the "N" key was damaged when i cleaned it? i sure hope not considering how thinkpad T series are durable and reliable in almost every possible way and it would be a shame that a user can not even remove a key to clean under a laptop for maintenance.. Thanks in advance for any responses!

Answer:"clicky" noise on the "N" after cleaning under t510 laptop.

I don't think the keys are considered removable. Having said that, I remove and replace them all the time if I get a keyboard with missing or damaged keys. It is possible one of the 4 clips is not snapped on, or it broke when you were playing with it. I know I broke some when I did the first couple of keyboards.

Question: Thinkpad T510

Hi gang, new member and new owner of the mighty Thinkpads My questions for the forum are as follows:I purchased a stripped T510 with no battery , caddy or hard drive.I purchased a new 6 cell battery and hard drive caddy and now have a problem deciding which ssd to choose.I have my eye on:OCZ Agility 3 60gb ( agt3-25sat3-60g )OCZ Vertex 2 90gb ( oczssd3-2vtx90g )Or any intel ssd thats at least 60gbI understand the T510 is limited to its sata 2 controller(3gb/s) and it is fine. Im not going to use my laptop to break any speed records. I will be getting an ultabay and adding a cheap 320gb hard drive 7925DDfor storage or just use my external enclosure and the delicious eSata port ( i get excited about my laptop easily) so I am not worried about the difference in ssd capacity all that much(60 gb vs 90)What I am interested in is the experience of the forum in regards to what ssd the T510 will play nice with.Should I stay away from OCZ or Intel? I can update firmware if necessary but would like a good dependable ssd to use.Windows 7 will be my OS.Thanks for any advices.

Entering high school, was going to get a Sony, a friend with a computer repair business urged me to go with the Lenovo. So far so good! One question (and I'm sure we will have many): the laptop did not come with any type of user instruction manual. Is there one? Can it be ordered from somewhere? If not, is there a site where some type of user manual can be downloaded? Just something that identifies the use of each key, and maybe lists and explains some of the various functions. TIA

Yesterday I realized that my ThinkPad T510 (4314-7NU) does NOT have any eSATA ports in contrast to what is stated on each and every product specification one could only found on the internet. All the pictures of the left side of the laptop I have seen contains eSATAp (USB/eSATA combo) on it, excepts mine.Basically, instead of this:

on my laptop I have this:

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_6dQZiozfUeU/TVY_F_VGRdI/AAAAAAAABDA/8fekJUp51KY/t510.usb.JPG

What is it? Is it a normal USB?? Why does it look differently from the other USB ports?

What other options do I have to connect my eSATA cable excepts using eSATA/USB adapter. I want to be able to benefit from the high speed SATA interface, so USB is not an option for me.

Thank you!

So if that is the case, the online site the t510 is supported...whats the deal here guys is it or is it not supported

Answer:Does This Really Support the Thinkpad T510?

The URL takes me to a site which quickly changes to the current Lenovo support site for the USA.  From that point on, it is the same site one gets to via Googling Lenovo support. What specific part are you dealing with? My short answer to your question is res, but it's an old URL that has to shift.

Hi, I have just purchased a T510 with the 27++ slice battery, the battery "User Guide" is anything but ! Can someone please tell me whether there are any restrictions on when I connect & disconnect the slice battery?i.e., can it be plugged and unplugged without powering down, hibernating or sleeping the Thinkpad? For the battery to be useable, I'd certainly hope so, but as it connects to the docking connector, I'd like to know for sure before I do it for the first time. As an aside, I have also just read that if you unplug the slice with the Thinkpad in sleep mode, even with a fully charged normal battery connected, the laptop goes to a power off state. - has anyone here seen that?  Can it be corrected? regardsDave

Answer:Using 27++ battery with Thinkpad T510

Hallo,as no separate instructions for replacing the battery follow with the slice battery, check the Access Help User's Guide for instructions. If it doesn't offer special instructions for the slice battery, i suppose that its general instructions for replacing the main battery are better than nothing. For my notebook, which isn't a T510, the Access Help User's Guide says: turn off or hibernate the notebook, disconnect the AC adapter and all cables. Install or remove the battery. Then, connect the AC adapter and all other cables. The Safety and Warranty Guide for your notebook gives some additional information on disconnecting and connecting cables to the notebook. It says: Connect and disconnect cables as described in the following procedures wheninstalling, moving, or opening covers on this product or attached devices. To connect:1. Turn everything OFF.2. First, attach all cables to devices.3. Attach signal cables to connectors.4. Attach power cords to outlets.5. Turn devices ON.To disconnect:1. Turn everything OFF.2. First, remove power cords from outlets.3. Remove signal cables from connectors.4. Remove all cables from devices. The power cord must be disconnected from the wall outlet or receptacle beforeinstalling all other electrical cables connected to the ThinkPadŽ computer. The power cord may be reconnected to the wall outlet or receptacle only after allother electrical cables have been connected to the computer.

I bought a T510 in July (2011).  3 to 4 times a day my  T510 locks up. The only solution is to coldstart the laptop. I saw some messages about this problem in 2010, but did not read about a solution. Is this a known problem, also for these new T510's ? Is there a fix ?

Answer:Thinkpad T510 Lockup

Same here! When you browse through the list of posts you may notice hat this is quite a common feature with T510, T520 ... Nobody seems to have a good answer. It has probably nothing to do with the OS, as I run under Linux and I have the problem since the very beginning (i.e.. October 2010). My guess is that it is a hardware problem. My T510 often locks up when I scroll with the arrow keys on the right for more than a screen-length . Perhaps some of the community / site maintainers has a solution?? RegardsMartin

Hello, I just bought an intel SSD 510 for my Thinkpad T510.There is a major issue, in that I cannot get the T510 to see the drive in Windows 7 installer. The drive appears in the bios but I cannot choose it during the install. Do you know which driver I should include in the Windows 7 install disk ? I have tried many to no avail. Thank you very much

Answer:Thinkpad T510 with Intel SSD 510

Hi,I think you should look for chipset/controller driver, not SSD itself. I don't know which chipset you have exactly, that would help.I have T500 with Intel SSD and I had no problems with installation.

Hi, I can't read DVD-VR or DVD-Video discs with home-filmed movies (either from camcorder, or mastered on full-size DVD). Which is surprising because I have actually used the preinstalled Corel software to import some of the same discs before, using the same laptop, with the same drive?!?!?! Is there an update that fixes a bug, or what do I need to do to gain access to the discs so I can back them all up? Been looking for a solution to this problem, without success so far. I've updated the firmware, but this hasn't helped, either. Thanks, Tom

I'm having a problem with my T510 where the GT30N CD/DVD drive almost always fails to even recognize a DVD or CD that is inserted.  The drive is powered on (I've seen that problem) and I've tried upgrading to the latest firmware for the drive.  I haven't updated the BIOs, but I've read the notes for each version and don't see a reference to any of them fixing optical drive problems.  I've also tried reseating the drive after a "safely remove" and a full shut-down and battery removal.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  I also tried changing the power management settings and one time it worked after I took it off of "max battery" mode, but it stopped working after that. What am I missing other than "I need a replacement optical drive"? Thanks!

Answer:Thinkpad T510 can't read discs

Check the firware is updated. It is NOT automatic so download the firmware package and it will check and update valid drives. Other than that and your drivers are working something has failed.

Hello.I need urgent help to choose my Thinkpad.I have two possible candidates:- L520 ( i5-2430M / 2.4 to 3 Ghz, Hd 3000 graphics, 1600x900 screen, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd).- T510 ( i5 560M / 2.66 to 3.2 GHz, Hd graphics, 1600 x 900 screen, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd).It is assumed that the T series is better but is older ... Prices are the same.Hard drives are not important. I'll ride an SSD. Also increase to 8gb ram.The problem is the integrated graphics, I think the L520 is a little better in that regard.I need the laptop to be able to work well with Photoshop CS5 and  heavy Raw's. Although this will not be your job every day.The T520 series is too expensive for my budget. It would be possible to mount a graphics card in any of the two? The notebook will never be used to play, but I need it capable to process a decent photos! What I choose? Thank you.

Answer:Help to choose my Thinkpad (L520 vs T510) !

Photoshop processing is done by the CPU, so an integrated graphics card shouldn't be a problem. I think either ThinkPad should meet your needs.

Click the Start button.2. Click "Control Panel"3. Click "System and Security"4. Click "Power Options"5. Click "Change plan settings" for the power plan currently in use.6. Click "Change advanced power settings"7. Expand "Sleep" by clicking the + next to it.8. Expand "Allow wake timers". Are any of these enabled?

Hi all, I've got a Thinkpad T510 (4313-CTO) that I am having trouble with. It is only about a month old. What happens is, when I boot into Windows (including Safe Mode) I get a BSOD at varying stages of the bootup, sometimes I can use the machine for 3 or 4 minutes, and sometimes it just BSOD's at the Windows Loading screen. The fact that it happens at various stages, in normal and safe modes, makes me think that it is a hardware issue. I'm not sure if this series (or any) of Lenovo's machines used the Sandy Bridge lot, but it is possible that it could be the problem. It doesn't bluescreen in Acronis TrueImage that I loaded from the bootable CD.  [IMG]http://i55.tinypic.com/167mf0p.jpg[/IMG](Direct Link: http://tinypic.com/r/167mf0p/7) Any help that anyone can provide is appreciated.

Recently I changed the original HDD to SSD in my ThinkPad T510 and installed the Windows 7 Pro os in Hungarian language. As I don't have the original driver CD, I downloaded all drivers from Lenovo Support home page, including Camera driver, ThinkVantage drivers and Power Managent driver. I installed camera driver too, apparently without error. Camera still missing from Device Manager, Fn + F6 shown only audio settings. Can anybody help me how to get the integrated camera working?

Answer:Thinkpad T510 camera not present

Hi Kcsontos,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I understand that camera is not working in T510.

Please follow the below mentioned steps for the solution.y

Be sure your webcam driver is installed. (It can be found at Click here )

By checking the webcam if it is disabled by Fn+F6. If you see the cross line on the webcam sign press to Fn+F6 to enable the webcam.

If you do not see the webcam sign on the right corner of display after pressing Fn+F6, be sure your Energy Management is installed. (It can be found at click here )

After you download the power Management driver from Lenovo Website, install the software. During Power management installation if you see the window as below ?Utility? must be selected for Fn hot-key application (Utility is a software package under EM)

After installation of Energy Management please perform step 2 to enable Webcam if it is disabled.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Hi, For some reason, the thinkpad t510 all of a sudden has fits of sound distortion like buzzing when it is playing a music. For example I am listening to something on itunes while browsing firefox, and occasionally the sound will buzz. I have not encountered this problem before. Could it be nvidia driver related with its HD audio or what ever? My HD Conexnant drivers are update. Nothing really has changed. This problem is new. A bit of googling states that it might be a virus related issue...but I got norton and full system scan has revealed nothing. Any pointers/hints/tips? Thanks

Is is possible to link a Thinkpad T510 to a DJ mixer (Beringer)? I can only see a headphone output but do I also need a line out? Cheers JH

Answer:Linking Thinkpad T510 TO DJ MIXER

Hi Herbster38,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are looking for Additional Audio port for ThinkPad T510.

In ThinkPad T510 it is shipped combo audio port, and its function is that you can use Headphone and Mic. Where Headphone output is same as Line out.

However if you are looking for multiple audio ports for your system, you can purchase USB audio card which will be very much suitable for your requirement.

Hope this helps!

Answer:Thinkpad T510 problem with the CPU frequency

What your seeing is actually normal and a result of power management settings. When on battery, the CPU reduces its clock speed to improve battery life and only increases in speed if a program needs more processing power (games, adobe photoshop, CAD, etc.). If you want, you can disable this feature by setting the "maximum performance" option in the Lenovo power manager program and by going into the bios and disabling "Intel Speedstep" and adjusting similar power options. Hope this helps. -Brian

Hi, I purchased my Thinkpad T510 in around May 2010. Recently i observed a strange issue with my laptop, when ever i shutdown the machine and the next day i restarted it the battery was totally drained. This process continued for some time. Since last 2 weeks, my laptop has become totally dysfunctional, it starts to boot and when i login into the Windows 7 environment, it shuts down unexpectedly as if all the power is drained out. This happens even when it is connected to a power source. I assumed it must be a virus and tried reinstalling the OS, but this unexpected shutdown is happening during installation also. Now the machine is completely unusable, only time i can login without shut is if i select WIndows SAFE MODE login. I also tried removing the battery and boot only through the power, still during a normal login, this behavior is happening. Please advise on what could be the issue and what actions i should do to diagnose the issue. thanksvenkat

Hi, I have a ThinkPad T510 and recently bought a genuine Lenovo 70++ Battery. I get an average of about 3 hours out of it. Lenovo Power Manager says it's in good condition with a Full Charge Capacity of 93.52 Wh. The battery was manufactured in July of this year (2016). I also have a stockpile of new genuine Lenovo 25+ Batteries at my work. They were manufactured in 2015 and can only last about an 1.5 hours. Is this normal? I don' t do gaming on my laptop and don't use it very heavily (I don't have multiple browser tabs open while running tons of other stuff at the same time). I've heard people getting 8 hours out of these batteries! Meanwhile, I carry around 5 genuine Lenovo batteries in my laptop bag so I don't run out at the end of the day! Any suggestions? Hi all! I've recently bought a Lenovo Yoga and I've been very happy with it except for one thing. It is a problem one wouldn't expect on a notebook but the fact is that my Yoga, when placed on a table doesn't hold stable. The body seems to be slightly bent in the bottom left corner and, as a result of it, it rattles when pressed against the desk and the notebook looks very flexible here, too. Once again, the bottom lefet corner of its body is kind of bendy whereras the bottom right is strong and firm.I've gone to my local store where I purchased it and the assistant said this was really the issue and that he would replace it if only I came immediately after I purchased it( I turned up 6 days aftewards as I havent noticed before). But when my notebook returned from the service point, they said it was OK and didnt repair anything. And here it becomes really mysterious. The service protocol read that they they had returned the notebook unrepaired but the bottom part of the body was now even. Until now (7 more days)So what I think is that the notebook (at least mine) is not built well and that the body isnt strong enough. That is the only plausible explanation for that because I am neither crazy nor a perfectionist. I just want my expensive notebook to be flawless. Can I claim for replacement? Thanks a lot.

I got some medium size body scratch on my Orange Yoga 2 PRO clearly visible when seen at the top. Can anybody confirm me if the body is made of Plastic or any metal? Can I use any plastic scratch remover like "Novus 1, 2, 3 Kit Plastic Polish and Scratch Remover" to remove the scratches without impacting the color shine?Any suggestions please....

Answer:Lenovo yoga 2 pro Body scratch

I don't know what kind of material the lenovo is made of, but the finish is most likely a paint/coating of some sort.  Scratch removers work by basically being a very fine grit sandpaper.  That would work on things like plastic screens, where you have thick clear acrylic that you want to sand down until you've gotten rid of the scratch. It probably wont work on a colored finish like the orange, unless your scratch is still orange.  In that case, you're basically removing the top thin layer of orange that has the scratch, exposing more orange underneath.  It's very unlikely your scratch is this shallow, or you'd barely be able to notice it. Also - scratch removers will leave a very smooth/polished finish (if they're working correctly).  I think the orange finish is matte/satin, so you'd have a very strange shiny section. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you'll be able to get that scratch out... at least with scratch remover/polish.

Hi guys, 1. My laptop is ThinkPad T510 4313CTO. Could I install window 7 64bit on my machine? or I have to install os as same as    the preinstalled one which is win7 32bit. 2. I read the spec which says the max memory that I can install is 8G. But, if os is 32bit and I upgrade the memory to 8G, what is advantage? or Does that just mean I waste the extra 4G memory? Thanks in advance

Answer:ThinkPad T510 4313CTO 64bit or 32bit

Hello and welcome,

You can install either the 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.  If your question is about activation, the same key will activate either 32 or 64 bit - as long as the version (home, pro, ultimate) matches the key.

Are you going to install from Lenovo media or Microsoft media?  Lenovo media for your laptop should activate automatically.  MS media will probably requrie entering the key from the sticker and then refer you to a robo-call that will activate it.

You'd be wasting the extra RAM if you only run a 32-bit OS.

Z.

My T510 does not have an eSATA port, so I purchased the Mini Dock Plus Series 3.  However, the eSATA port does not detect my external HDD. I have other PC's that detect the HDD on their eSATA ports just fine so I know it is not the HDD. The ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 information page indicates that the eSATA port is compatible with the T510. The laptop is running Windows 7 64-bit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello. I would like to know if the newer models of Thinkpad T500 series can accept the keyboard from a Thinkpad T510? I currently own a T510, and if I were to buy a new Thinkpad, I would want to know that I could swap their keyboards and continue using my current one in the new laptop. I'm not interested in hearing defenses of the new keyboard or how good it is. I do not want to be told how wrong I am for preferring the old layout and key shape. If I buy a new Thinkpad I will give the new keyboard a fair shot for a couple of days, but I will not buy another Thinkpad unless I know for sure that I will not be required to use the chiclet keys if I don't want to. Priority one is for the browser back and forward keys to continue working as normal. If they become magically transformed into page up/page down keys it's no good. Has anyone ever attempted the transplant? Is it possible?

The T510 can currently only use a T510 or T520 keyboard.

Hello, I'm new to the forums, so far I'm pretty pleased with my laptop - Lenovo Thinkpad T510, but today my battery icon in taskbar got a green cirle around it and it says: The battery is running in Maximum Lifespan mode. I dont know what is this means and what to do is it dangerous, is it normal, or what? In other places I read - that is completly fine when you use your laptop mainly on AC and dont use battery so often, but i'm getting scared because it lasts around 5 hours with wifi and display around 70% brightness, and now software says something like 4 or even worse - 3 hours of battery life. Should I leave it that way or is there something I need to do, but I dont know about it? Thanks.

ThinkPad-ed [T510]

Answer:Thinkpad T510 - Maximum lifespan mode

In Maximum Lifespan mode, it slightly reduces your battery runtime by not totally charging your battery to 100%. This should keep your battery in better condition later in the future. If your battery runtime is low, check the existing battery wear. Also try to close as many background programs that you don't need; these can consume a lot of battery.

Hi All, I got a question regarding the standard / acceptable temperature operating range for the thinkpad t510 laptops. So my setup currently is my t510 is connected to an external monitor, external speakers, external keyboard and mouse. So it is essentially a desktop except using the innerds of the laptop as the "heart" of the system. My power manager has set the cpu to be adaptive. The temperature readings I am getting for the CPU and the Motherboard from downloading the program called Speccy from Piriform are at an average of 60 and 61 degrees C. I am wondering if that is within normal operating temperature for the laptop and if it is acceptable. Or is this temperature not ok and the reason why it is so high is that I am using the externals. Also, I am not even using heavy load work for the laptop besides for web browsing and listening to music and working on documents / spread sheet so basically office work. And lastly, would the temperature problem be solved if in the future I would to get a w530 laptop since those laptops are more "powerful"?? Or is that wrong and the temperature is normal. Thanks in advance for answers

Yes ~60C is quite normal. I'd get concerned if the temperature readings consistently exceeded 80C and/or if the fan was on constantly. Otherwise you'll see the temperature fluctuate as CPU and graphics activity vary.

I have a Thinkpad T510 (4384-2RU) running Windows XP and have been experiencing this problem since the day I got it. If I have headphones connected to the audiojack, and then I put the laptop to sleep, after I wake it up again, the sound is gone. Bear in mind that I normally wake it up without having the headphones connected anymore. Sometimes, if I re-connect the headphones, the sound comes back, I can then disconnect them and sound would come out of the normal laptop speakers with no problem. But most times, even if I reconnect the headphones, the audio doesn't come back. I am forced to reboot which is highly annoying. Why does this happen? I have seen that if I wake up the laptop with the headphones still connected, then I don't experience the problem. Also, if put it to sleep without having headphones connected, I also don't have the problem. I have narrowed this down to having audio crashing if I put it to sleep with headphones in, then waking it up without them. This is not how it's supposed to work, I should be able to have audio at all times regardless of whether I have headphones connected to the jack or not. Please note that a solution won't be installing Windows 7, this is a company laptop and they won't let me update the software. How can I fix this problem so it doesn't happen again?

Answer:No audio after resuming from SLEEP on a Thinkpad T510

This happens because the laptop goes to sleep with the speakers disabled and the headphones powered on. To prevent this from happening disconnect the headphones before putting the machine to sleep.

Hi all. I have Thinkpad T510 just 1 month old and it restarts randomly without any warning. I have been experiencing this issue since last one week. In the beginning, I was experiencing this issue only once so I thought problem might be with windows. Then, I tried ubuntu (linux) and still same problem exitsts. So I gave call to lenovo technical support and ask for refund and told me they can refund only to DOA and within 10 days of arrival. They told me to send laptop to service centre for repair. My laptop is hardly 1 month old and I hardly use it for 15 days. If I send them for repair then they will change m/bd which i don't want for 1 month old laptop.  I told them that If i have to replaced m'bd within 1 month then I would have gone for refurbished laptop.I told them for refund/replacement for laptop and they refused. Anyone has any experience with refund/replacement for 1 month old laptop. I told rep that I am planning to go for consumer protection and rep rudely replied to me that you are free to go. sorry for my poor english. Any help is much appreciated.

Hi, I bought my ThinkPad T510 in March 2011, had purchased a 1 year warranty, which has expired. My sound issue started almost 2 months ago. While watching DVD's, videos online at any site from yahoo, facebook, youtube, netflix, hulu etc my sound will stop completely while the video still runs. I have to press the volume buttons on the keyboard either up or down to turn the sound back on temporarily. The sound may come back on for 15 minutes or 5 seconds. Sometimes the volume buttons are not effective and then I have to click on the speaker button in the bottom right hand side of the screen to manually slide the volume button up or down. It seems like such a small problem with an easy fix, but it is extremely frustrating when watching for example, a 30 second video and having to hover over the volume button.  I've tried everything.- Called Lenovo for support or direction for this quick fix that should be available (I can't be the only one with this issue, because I've never had this problem before). This issue isn't familiar, I can ship it in, and possibly pay up to $600 for them to locate and fix the issue.- Updating the Conexant drivers- Removing current driver and having it auto reinstall most up to date driver- trying the diagnose & fix app on here which found nothing wrong- Ran my Norton virus check- removed all cookies and history- Updated the conexant drivers from the Lenovo Support tab- Used monthly Norto... Hey Soundless,

Have you updated your BIOS to 1.52?

Try to find older audio driver versions and see if it works.

Also, check in Device Manager under your audio devices and make sure that you don't have any audio drivers conflicting with each other.

Odd situation. The notebook display itself does not work in WIndows (Win7 64).  Boot to safe mode, BIOS, recovery etc it's there and works fine.  But partway through booting up in "normal" mode the notebook LCD goes blank.   An external LCD works fine. Going to graphics options, there is no option for the notebook display.  In device manager, and enabling display of disconnected devices the Thinkpad LCD does show up as a disconnected device.Again, booting to safe mode, BIOS setup or Thinkpad recovery the notebook LCD works just fine.  Just not in Windows 7 normal mode. Uninstalling the Intel video driver resolves this, reinstalling it brings the problem right back.  Also have installed the latest version directly from Intel's site to no avail. I should note that Fn-F7 brings up the menu, but changes nothing.

I spilled coffee (not much) on my keypad and unfortunately didn't take immediate action to disconnect power and the battery from the machine. I took it apart and cleaned out the keypad and let it dry and after reassembling I have about 90% keypad functionality with some of the keys on the left hand side (whre the spill occurred) no longer working. I'm going to order a new keypad; I'm assuming it's shot. But the odd thing is when I click on a malfunctioning key, the mouse select buttons no longer work. The trackpad still works fine, I can move the mouse around.  How are these connected? Am I going to have to replace the mouse/trackpad? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Strange keypad/mousepad behavior in Thinkpad T510

There is a short in the keyboard.

The coffee now is IN the keyboard. You can try to clean it with Isopropanol and let it get dry for more than 3-4 days with low chance to reanimate it or purchase a new keyboard.

BUT

In many cases users move or turn the wet thinkpad while the liquid still is on the keyboard. In these cases the liquid drains beween keyboard and bezel to the inside of the computer.

If they turn the computer upside down or upside to side, the liquids in the drainage floods the system board resp parts of it.

So you also need to diassenble your laptop and check each part of it with a magnifying-glass, whether it got wet.
These parts must be cleand with isopropanol and get dry for approx. 3-4 days.

At times when I turned on the laptop, or restarted it, or recovered it from sleep mode, the wireless was turned off by itself. I had to click "troubleshoot" and after detecting problems, it showed that "A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken". Then the problem would be fixed. It happens more and more frequently. I tried to call Lenovo customer service 800-426-7378 but every time it was disconnected showing "no answer"!!! Now I am considering BBB Lenovo.
