Problem on T500 with VPN connection

Question: Problem on T500 with VPN connection

Hello, I've got a strange problem on my T500 series. This is the model with Ericsson F3507g broadband modem. I bought Win 7 Pro 64 bit, and installed on my ThinkPad. I've downloaded all the drivers with System Update 4.0 and the computer is running great (Intel SSD Drive, 8GB of RAM), but I have problem with a VPN connection. The connection is establishing properly. But when I'm connected i can't send or receive any data. One more thing, this situation happens when I'm using WWAN connection. On cable or WIFI everything is great. PLS HELP.

Preferred Solution: Problem on T500 with VPN connection

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a T500 series which fails to reconnect to the wireless network when it is brought out of hibernate. The solution thus far has been to restart the laptop. All updates have been run, bios is up to date, along with all drivers. Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Thanks

I bought a T500 two months ago with Windows Vista and since then I have two frequent problems. 1) The Battery is not charging up properly. It charges sometimes.2) Wireless connection is getting dropped off very often. I called Customer Service 3 times . They once replaced the battery , But still the problem persists. I believe they have least knowledgable people in Customer Service. I dont know how they are serving corporate customers.  The Customer service representative offered me strange suggestions like rebooting the machine 11 times (Dont know how they got the number 11).They could not resolve the problem after 3 calls. So I am going to try updating all the drives and see if it helps. If not I will need to request for a refund.I was really happy with my earlier Dell Latitude D620 . I regret my decision to go with the Lenovo... Any one had similar experience ??

Answer:T500 Wireless Connection/Power problem and Worst Customer Service

In regards to the battery, it is normal for the battery to not charge when the charge level >= 97%. This is to lengthen the battery's lifespan. (Leaving the battery continuously charged at 100% will accelerate the aging process of the Li-Ion battery, making the battery lose charge faster if it were kept at a lower charge level) If the battery fails to charge at lower charge intervals, I would suggest that you look at your power manager settings and make sure they are set correctly. (Otherwise it might be a battery issue like you suggested) About the wireless card, that is a very common, yet strange issue amongst the T400/T500. Although I have not experienced any issues with my WLAN (I do have problems with WWAN) - I suggest that you acquire the latest drivers directly from Intel. (suppose that you have an Intel card) And regarding customer service, I can totally second with you on that. I was quite disappointed when I first called Lenovo, thinking that I would receive the superior "business/corporate class" customer service, but only to get calls answered by reps who have no idea on what they are dealing with. (Every time I call I have to be "esculated" to a supervisor, be promised that I would receive a callback from them since they are on the other line with another customer - just to be ignored and no callbacks afterwards) To further disappointment, it seems that the reps also do not know their products very well. Many of them doesn't even know what a GPS is a... Read more

Question: T500 3G connection

I've always used my T500 (2243-64G) with Wi-Fi and LAN connections, nut now I need to use a mobile 3G connection. I see a little slot for a SIM card close to the battery, but I don't understand if my laptop has the card to manage the connection. I'm searcing for old datasheet, but I don see anything useful. What can I do? Thanks in advance.

Answer:T500 3G connection

AFAIK, a SIM card must be in that slot if you have a subscribed to broadband account.  That requires a monthly fee to the provider.  An easier solution, if you do not have built-in broadband, is to use a USB broadband modem obtained from a provider of choice, such as Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc., along with their provided software access. I use my Droid phone's hotspot that has a Verizon subscription with my T510. Before that, I used a Sprint C777 Expresscard modem along with Sprint software.

Not using ACM. In Denmark. Using XP Pro (Lenovo Image). This is the only T500 computer we have at the moment so I cant try with another computer. Computer came with a Sonofon SIM card but my company has a contract with TDC (.dk). At first when I started the  "Mobile Broadmand Connection Manager" it asked for the pin number and failed to activate a correct pin number. This problem went away after I ran "System Update" and updated anything connected to WAN, wireless and networking. After it started accepting the pin number the "Mobile Broadmand Connection Manager" went on to say "Your carrier is currently unsupported. Please contact your carrier for more information". It did however create a connection under "Network Connections". The connection starts, but on "registering ......" it fails with a error code 734 and a countdown to a redial. The connection that it made has the correct phone number and no username or password. Tried calling the carrier/TDC although they gave me all the all the time in the world, but they could not help me. They did go over the connection with me and the phone number "*99***1#". They also me that the SIM ID I was calling from did not show any tried connection attempts, so it looks like Im not hitting their servers. I tried installing Access Connection Manager and that did nothing (except aggravate my boss/the user). The connection does not show up under wireless connections. Went over every sin... Read more

I can only get a 100 Mbps wired connection (not 1 Gbps) on my T500.  I am connecting to a Netgear GS605 switch.  I have tried using exactly the same port and cable that gives 1 Gbps on another computer (a Dell XPS 420) but the T500 will still only connect at 100 Mbps.  Both computers are running Vista Ultimate.  I have tried changing the Advanced/Link Speed & Duplex setting (in the Intel 82567LM device driver) from Auto Negotiatitation to  1.0 Gbps Full Duplex but this does not help.  Any suggestions?

Answer:T500 gives only 100 Mb wired connection; not 1 Gb

have you tested transfer speeds to see if it's simply misreporting your connection protocol?   i've found more than one system reporting 100 Mbps yet transferring anywhere from 75 MBps to 105 MBps (.6 Gbps to .84 Gbps). also, have you turned off wireless on each system?   i've seen vista transfer over wireless even though a wired connection was present.   unfortunately it doesn't automatically choose the faster connection.

I'm having a problem with my T500 WI-FI connection. When I start the laptop in about 70% of the time it will connect to my network and everything will be fine. The other 30% of the time it will come up and either not connect at all to the router or will connect to the router but not to the modem for the internet connection. Its very eratic. So that you know I have two other computers running on this wireless network and they have no problem connecting and staying up (BTW... they are running at the same time I'm trying to bring up the T500 and get on without a hitch). I had the wireless modem replaced by Lenovo and it didn't fix anything. I'm currently using Microsoft's Network and sharing center to bring up the connection because I tried Lenovo's Access Conections and initially thought that it may be the problem. This is going on 5 weeks now and this problem is driving me crazy. Can anyone help?

I just purchased a T500 couple days back. My wireless card turns off automatically like after a couple of hours or so. It wont work again without a restart. I uninstalled and reinstalled Access Connection, but it still did not help. I am running Windows Vista. I also tried disabling the "switch off wireless card to save power" in the wireless card properties. That did not work either. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5300 card. When the connection drops, i try to search, and i cannot find any other wireless connection in the area. Any help would be really appreciated as it is annoying when the internet goes off every now and then, and you have to restart. I have other laptops connected to the network as well, and they don have any issues connecting to the wireless network. Thanks!Message Edited by mukun566 on 09-20-2008 01:17 PMMessage Edited by mukun566 on 09-20-2008 01:27 PM

Hi, I trying to setup a T500 to be able to connection to our 3G supplier, but I can't get it to work. If I use the USB modem that our supplier delivered there is no problem. When I do a error repair it says that the modem don't have access to the GSM GPRS-service or the WAN-networkservice isn't accessible on this location . What can this be, and what can I do to get past it?

Answer:Can't connect to 3G on T500 through Access Connection

Which 3G card do you have in your T500?

Which ISP are you trying to connect to?

What frequency band does the ISP's 3G service operate on?

I bought my T500 in March 2009 and I am going to be using it throughout college. For the last month or so, my computer will randomly dump me off the internet and it's getting very irritating. I have the Intel 5300 AGN wireless adapter in here and it was factory installed. Every two to four minutes, my internet connection will break and when I click my little "network" / "connection" it will tell me that "Windows cannot find any wireless networks." I run Windows Network Diagnostics and one of the repair options is "Turn on wireless capability", and so I do. Then, in another few minutes, the process repeats itself. I know that I do not have a virus on my computer, and I know that the problem is not my router--every other computer in my house works just fine. I've looked on other forums and apparently the 5300 AGN is notorious for being a pain in the ___... Oh, and I'm running Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium.

Myself and numerous others at my work have the same computer and are experiencing the same problem with or Wi-Fi.  No matter where we are, or what router we attempt to connect to, the laptop drops the connection. I have tried at work, at home, at local free Wi-Fi sites, etc.  All the rest of my laptops at home never lose the connection, so it is not the router.  Additionally, my coworkers experience the same problem at their homes, so this is a Lenovo problem. On my computer, I have XP SP3, and am NOT using the Lenovo wireless connection crap software.  I'm simply trying to connect using standard the XP wireless network connection tool. It will connect for a few minutes and work fine, but after a few minutes, and at random, the connection will drop all by iteself. Does anyone have any suggestions?  I've already attempted to go into the device manager and modify power settings for the Wi-Fi to no avail. Thanks!

I have read most of the posts about T400 and T500's dropping the network connection, and it seems to include both the 5100 and 5300 cards. My T500 does it too, and the hours spent on the phone with the service center only yielded a response that it would happen when I unplugged from AC power. But it does it at any time, usually when I am just reading my notes before continuing with a paper that I am writing, etc.(I have already had the problems with the computer going to sleep and not being arousable, and have downloaded the new drivers, AND changed the configuration to have it NEVER go into hibernation--seems to have worked. )Has anyone yet gotten a fix or reasonably good answer from Lenovo?MARK???

I have had my T500 for 2 weeks and over the last few days it has started dropping the connection every few seconds and then reconnecting seconds later.  I have no problems like this on my T41 running on the same wireless router.  I have tried several of the suggested solutions on this forum including changing the power management settings on the battery icon to "Maximum performance", changing the roaming settings to low, changing the channel on my wireless router, installing the most updated power management driver, upgrading access connections, and my system was already shipped with the latest wireless driver.  I have the Intel 5100 running on Windows 7 with a NetGear WPN 824 router.  Is there anything else I can try?

Hi, all. My T500 has been doing this for a while. I finally got around to actually posting about it. Some background info: computer has the Intel Centrino 5100 wireless card, router is a Linksys / Cisco WRT54G2.Under device manager, all wireless wifi devices are set so that it will NOT shut off to save power.Under Power Manager. dim display is set at 5 minutes, turn off display set at 15 minutesStop hard disk rotation, enter system standby and enter system hibernation are set to "never"Here's the problem. After stepping away from the computer for a while (longer than 15 minutes), I come back and move the mouse for the display to turn back on. The wireless connection, for some reason, has dropped. When I attempt to reconnect to the router, it fails to reconnect. I try again and it fails to reconnect yet again. Mind you, all other devices connected to the router are fine and none have dropped the connection. The only way I can reconnec to the router is by unplugging the router and powering it up again. Only then will my T500 reconnect. What do you suppose the problem is? What's the best solution to fix it? Advice would be most appreciated.

I cant explain it, but for some reason, the WiFi seems to stop working.  Connection manager shows no Access points nearby when I'm right next to a couple i have setup.  Attempting to connect to a known connection only gives a message about not being able to connect.  I've unistalled and reinstalled TVAccess Connections and it still doesnt appear to receive any signals.  Switch is on... Any one else seen this?

Answer:T500 WIFI Loss of Connection

I had 4 computers on a wireless network in my home and an older (4yrs) SMC router. The system worked fine until I added the T500, at which point the T500 and one ofthe other computers kept losing the ip. TVAccess would show I was connected, but my browsers would not connect to the internet. After fruitless hours with tech support, I bought a new router (Dlink), which seems to have solved the problem.

I've read through the long thread about dropped wireless connections, power management, 5300 drivers, and all that, and I don't think this problem is the same.  This T500 (2242-CTO) does sometimes fail to reconnect after reboot, hibernate, or sleep mode, but that is usually because the wireless radio comes up in the 'off' state.   Easy to fix. The more frustrating problem is that, randomly while online and actively using Firefox 3.5.3, I get  the "connection was reset" message, and there is no access to any web site.  Meanwhile, I can use Thunderbird to check and receive email, and I can ping my server no problem (so it's not a power management problem).  Sometimes, if I restart Firefox, the connection resumes.  Sometimes not.   In the latter case the 'diagnose and repair' function (right-click wireless icon in tray) usually doesn't help, turning wireless on and off (with switch) usually does restore full functionality.  By the way, when Firefox is refusing to connect, IE also fails to connect, so it is evidently not a Firefox-specific problem. Vista Home Premium, SP2 - 32 bit The 5300 drivers (if relevant) are the following:     Date:          2/9/2009    Version:    12.3.2.1    C:\windows\system32\drivers\netw5v32.sys    C:\windows\system32\netw5c32.dll    C:\windows\system32\n... Hi everyone, I have had my t500 for a few years now and it is dying slowly.  I have an idea that i was wondering if anyone would know how to do.  I want to start gaming, but i like to sit on my couch when i do.  so my idea is to disconnect the cable running to the laptop screen and keyboard, and reconnect it to a desktop.  this way il have the desktops graphics/computer power with my laptops screen and keyboard so i will be able to play on my couch.  Ideally, i would be able to throw a switch into the cable assembly so i can reconnect the screen to the laptop and be able to use it like i am now, however that is not a neccessity.  I am going to start looking for wiring diagrams but i was wondering if anyone knew an easy way to do this.  I realize that i will be fully voiding the lenovo warranty (which is already expired anyway). Thanks alot!

Hello.I just bought a (used) T500 and installed Win7 (64bit). It works fine so far, except that it has some problems with our network at work. I've already talked to our IT guy, and he assured me, that my settings (IP-address, DNS server etc.) are all correct.  The connecting isn't the actual problem, it's the holding of the connection. At irregular intervals (at the beginning often after seconds or some minutes, later it lasts longer) the connection just drops. It's reestablished directly afterwards, as one can easily see in the network centre. But this takes a while, and this constant dropping-reestablishing-dropping is kind of annoying, especially if you want to keep a permanent connection to another workstation.Wireless connection at my parent's place and broadband (DSL) at home work just fine. I also tried to connect my notebook to different access points at work, using different network cables, but no difference. In all cases the notebook was powered by AC and the power plan "optimal power source" chosen.Of course the most recent drivers via Windows and Lenovo System Update are installed. There are no error messages in the device manager nor in the ThinkVantage Productivity Centre. So far only two possibilities come to my mind:a) It's a hardware error (e.g. loose contact) in the network card (Intel 85267LM Gigabit), which means I have to send the notebook to Lenovo. I still have guarantee, but it might take a while until I get it back. But then, shouldn't... Read more

Answer:Thinkpad T500 Wireless Internet Connection / Local Only

I have the same problem with my T500.  It works fine 80% of the time, but I usually have to play around with the wireless settings for a bit after I first boot to get it to work.  I also uninstalled access connections, but it didn't really help.  I'm going to reformat with a clean install of windows next week to see if that helps.  I'm also hoping that it helps my startup time, because right now, it takes a few solid minutes of intense hard drive activity before it dies down and the computer performs like it should.  In general, I love the ThinkPad, but thats pretty pathetic for a brand new computer if you ask me.

Hello all, We have an issue with a T500 which is intermittently losing the network connection. It will jump to a 'limited connectivity' state. Please note, this machine is connected to a business environment. This issue has been occurring since the systemboard was replaced.  Various tests have been done to find the cause of this issue, such as: - Connecting laptop (w/o docking) to a different UTP socket and using a different cable- Updating the NIC drivers to the latest version - Deleting the user profile- Having someone else logging on to the machine. The issue persists in all these cases. The following drivers were chosen to install on the machine: Intel PRO/1000 LAN Adapter Software (32-bit Windows)7vrv22ww_v32.exe This did not provide a solution.Due to the fact the issue started after the motherboard was replaced - I've asked the user to install CPU-Z on the machine and it states the following details on the board: - Lenovo 20564RG - Chipset Intel GM45/GM47- Southbridge Intel 82801IM (ICH9-M) BIOS:Brand: LenovoVersion: 6FET92WW (3.22)Date: 12/14/2011 Either the NIC is defective or the incorrect drivers are installed, still. Could this mainboard not exactly match the T500 type? If so - is there someone who can provide me with correct drivers, or help solving this issue? Thanks in advance. Kind Regards,Ajay  Update: I've verified that the mainboard is identical.. it's most likely ... Read more

Answer:Intermittent network connection on T500 after having systemboard replaced

Hello Boskalis! Welcome to the Support Forums!

I looked up the specifications for the T500 2056-4RG, you should have a Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN. If Vista is still the OS that is running on the machine It looks like this should be the correct driver for you:

Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg)6mwv22ww.exe  74.08 MB

Here is the link for the driver specifications,

If you are using a different OS you can find the correct Intel wireless networking driver here.

I found it using the T500 Driver Matrix. However, I sometimes find using the ThinkVantage System Update tool easier than looking over the Driver Matrix. Or even the Intel Driver Update Utility.

Let me know if this driver did the trick!

My T500 is currently being used as a desktop replacement.   So it is plugged into an AC outlet all the time. My question is how to best preserve the battery life and capacity of a 9-cell..  Detach the battery, will the AC power it while battery is detached? It would be slightly more convenient to leave the battery attached... Is the laptop powered solely by the AC while plugged in, so the battery's life would not be affected? Any other ideas?

i've heard detaching it helps a lot since it reduces a lot of the heat. also i've heard of people detaching it and storing it in the refrigerator but honestly i don't think thats necessary. just keep the battery charged about...i believe it is 50 percent...and in a cool area.  there is an excellent article on batteries somewhere, i'll have to search for it later

I had purchased a new 2gb DDR3 ram for my T500 .For reference:Slot 0 : original 2gb ram.Slot 1: the new 2gb ramI got it 2 weeks ago, I placed it into my laptop and it worked fine. Then after 4 hours, windows crashed. After that, the system would crash every 15-20 mins. So I took out the new ram, and started to use laptop with the original ram. Did not experienced same problems.Last week, I tried putting in the new memory and had same occurence. After that, I decided to see if there would be any change if I switch the slot used for the each ram. So I placed the new ram in the slot 0 , and original ram in slot 1. I still had problems.I wanted to figure out if it is the new ram or maybe the second memory slot has some issues. so I took out my old ram, and kept the new memory in the slot 0. I had same issue again. So I thought maybe I did not properly placed the memory, so I took it and re-place it in the same slot. After that, I did not had any errors. Then I decided to put back the old ram into slot 1, again. The errors start to occur again. I would get Blue Screen of Death of every half hour or so. When I place the ram in slot 1, and nothing in slot 0, I get illegal configuration error. So I am wondering, does this shows that there is a problem in the slot 1 of my computer, or maybe the new memory is just incompatiable to work with my original ram?If it matter of a bad slot, how should I get it fix? Answer:T500 GPS problem

since the GPS and the 3G features are integrated into the same WWAN card, if you are having hardware problems with both, then it would indicate a problem with either the antennas connection or the card.So try to take off the palmrest and keyboard, then check the WWAN card to see whether it is seated properly and wires are connected properly.

Hi Guy's,I have a T500 (2089) which got its 'southbridge' fried, the screen went fuzzy, then the system went down..the only recourse was to get an IT shop to replace the motherboard (I hadn't noticed till I got it back it was still within warranty period!...doh!!)...anyway, I had put Win 7 on it prior to the problem, and wifi worked.Since the replacement, the wifi doesn't light up or work......the up-arrow on the task bar on desktop has 2 items with an X by them..the first says Hardware radio switch off and the second says wifi turned off.The wifi slider is in the correct 'on' position, (and turning it off gives a message 'all wireless radios are now off')Opening intel My Wifi shows 'disabled because the hardware radio switch is off'Can anyone suggest what I should do to repair the situation? Many ThanksTony

Answer:T500 Wireless problem

First of all check in BIOS under security - I/O Port access, that the devices all are enabled.

Maybe the service company hadn't re-attached the WiFi-slider well, that it does not move the switch when you use the slider.

Hello! I have a ThinkPad T500 from 3 years at my office and i decided to buy it for me. These years it worked just with his Intel GMA 4500 MHD. At my home, i tryed to switch it to ATI Radeon 3650 and......there is the problem!!! First I installed the driver, at Device Manager says that the ATI video card works. Entering in Bios/ Config/ Display, i maked these settings  After Presing F10 , it restarts and.......nothing.... I plugged a VGA monitor and it looks: And.... And After this image it goes to this error!!!!!!!!  Where is the Problem?thI can switch again to the Intel GMA and it works perfect....I tryed to install an original ati driver and the switchable graphic from Lenovo and...same problem.I SHOULD MENTION THAT THE ATI DOESN;T WORK ON THE LAPTOP LCD....IT WORKS JUST ON VGA!!!!!!After all....In Devide Manager says that the device cannot start and finally.....In the Device Manager appears just the Intel Video Card. What can i do? I need some more performance in some games......This laptop was new.....and it never runs with the ATI video....this give me a hope that the ati is not Broken!!!!This Laptop runs just AutoCAD....about 3-4 hours per day.  Specifications: Intel Core 2 DUO T9600 @ 2.8 GhzRAM: 4Gb DDR3 1600 MhzHDD: 320 Gb

Answer:ThinkPad T500 - ATI problem

It is hard to diagnose from far away, but my guess is that the video memory in the ATi video is bad.

Hello all! I have a T500 and have a problem with the cursor. When I type text in Word or Excel or any other application, sometimes, the cursor goes anywhere in the page in the middle of my typing. I thought : it can be the touchpad, so I type without touching anything and the cursor did the same erratic move. I tried to disable the touchpad, but it continue tu react erratically. Can someone point me to a solution please? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Cursor problem with T500.

I am experiencing the same problem. I have a T400. The cursor jumps to a previous paragraph when I'm typing. It is quite annoying. You'll be typing along and all of a sudden you're typing text into the middle of previously written material. If anyone has any insight on this it would be a great help. I've watched to see if I'm touching the red mouse button or tab buttons and I don't think I am. This problem seems more prevalent in replying to e-mails in Outlook. Thanks in advance to any insights.

Did you have another AC adapter to test with? The problem might be with the adapter itself. Consider replacing it with your warranty to see if that resolves your problem.

Newbie to the forums, here. I've been a Thinkpad owner for over 10 years and have had great success with my retired 560X (still runs after 13 years) and replaced it in 2009 with a T500. Last week, I tripped over the power cord and, not surprisingly, began having power issues. The power would switch between a/c and battery, and I had to twist the cable around to get it to run on a/c power. Over the course of about a week, it got increasingly worse until I couldn't get it to run/charge from the a/c adapter at all. I tested the a/c adapter with a multimeter and it was fine, so I assumed the problem was the power jack. I brought it into a local shop (not authorized by Lenovo) where the tech told me it wasn't the power jack, as is usually the case. He's saying the power jack is getting power, but the "charging circuit" on the motherboard is the problem, and that I need a new motherboard (at a cost of $625 installed). Obviously, I'm not putting that kind of money into a 3 year old laptop (even though I paid over $1000 for it, but I can't afford a new laptop at this time, or for the foreseeable future. Two questions: 1) If something on the mobo was physically damaged from the "power cord trip", wouldn't my power problems have been immediate, rather than gradual? 2) If I were to replace the mobo, would I have to wipe the drive and reinstall Windows, or is it in any way possible to have the system boot as it was, without starting from scratch? In the meantime,... Answer:Power Problem with T500

http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/

Hi Chris and welcome to the Community,

Unlike older ThinkPads that have the power jack soldered on the board, yours has a separate jack with a wired plug on the end that plugs into the board.

Go to the link, choose notebooks, ThinkPads, T series, the T500 isn't listed but the T510 is and the procedures are pretty close.  Look under Fru and choose power jack.  It will show a video on how to replace it.

I'm not going to try to second guess the service tech, but if it was mine, the first thing I would try is to replace the power jack.  They are cheap and "fairly" easy to change.  If that doesn't fix it, you could start checking fuses on the motherboard. Some service shops are equipped to change out a fuse.

You won't have to reinstall Windows from scratch.  It should boot up fine.  You will probably have to reactivate windows because the motherboard will be changed, but that should be the only difference.

Answer:T500 Standby problem on Win XP SP3

Hi plmmsg, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

That's quite an old version of the Power Management driver. I would start by updating that. You may also check for updates of other related drivers, such as the System Interface Driver.

The drivers are all available on the T500 Drivers and software page.

If you don't want to manually look for drivers, ThinkVantage System Update will scan your system and show you your available updates. My advice is not to apply all the updates it finds, just those which might solve some problem or have some value to you.

Hi everyone,I have a strange problem with my T500(2082-53G) notebook. When I want to turn off the computer I am doing it through OS(Start -> Turn Off). The problem is,that everytime I turned off my NTB,only system went OFF but laptot stayed ON(You can hear sound of fan and some controls like bluetooth lights up. In this state,I cannot TURN ON it normally, cause my laptop is in some strange mode(probably motherboard still goes on),so I have to hold power button and wait for a completely shutting down and after that I am able to TURN ON my laptot normally. That´s quite annoying.I tried to forbid a hibernation, update a BIOS and all possible drivers,it didn´t work. I still hope, that this is case of some settings, but I really tried everything, what came to my mind. It is a software problem or I have some issue with my hardware? Thank you for response! Cheers, glutamen

I am posting it here because i have no other place to and this forum has proven to be very fast and detaled answers with a lot of helpfull people. So the thing is, i have wifi set up (apartment). I am using windows 8 and in task manager,at network usage it shows the Sent and Recived data speed. It was all the time 1mbps ,more or less, now its not even half of that and every 5 sec of so, both Nubers go to a total zero(sent and recived speed), i have tried apps that monitor how many devices are on network, i have restared my wifi and the other box for many times (also turning off for 1h) and nothing helps, so does somebody have other ideas?

It flashes three times and then I see the power indicator glowing, but the machine is not starting after that. Do any of you have any suggestion how to fix this? Any help in this regard appreicated. ThanksNarayan

Answer:Power Problem with T500

Try the good ol trick:

Remove the battery
Remove the AC adapter
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
Connect the AC adapter (do not connect  the battery!)
Start the notebook

If it works you can try attaching the battery and checking if it works

Hi guys,  i tried to make an ad-hoc connection with a friend of mine but the WLAN shuts down itself after a few minutes (the green light below the display turns itself off) i already tried a few options in the power management but nothing helped...i guess the only way to make it work is to shut off the access connections...but thats no real solution in my opinion... does anybody have any ideas about this problem?

Answer:T500 problem with ad-hoc WLAN

I suspect you are using windows wireless to make the connection, but still have Access Connections installed? If so, you really should use one or the other. Access Connections has a feature to turn off the wireless if it thinks it isn't in use (i.e. the situation above) to save some battery life.  But it is easy enough to turn off that feature.  Open Access Connections, and click on Configure and Global settings.  Uncheck  "Enable automatic wireless LAN radio control" Click Ok and exit.See if that helps.

I did some searching and see that others have this problem, but can't seem to nail down any consistent solution, or at least one that works for me...  my new T500 (4313-CTO, Windows 7 Pro) has been having a problem with shutting down where the screen goes blank, but it still seems to be running, and it requires me to hold down the power key for a long time to force it to reboot to get going again, but, obviously, I lose everything that was open, which is not going to work.  A few times, the machine has popped up with an error message when I have just left it alone, and maybe this could help diagnose the problem, although it means nothing to me (see below).  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks! Problem signature:  Problem Event Name:    BlueScreen  OS Version:    6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48  Locale ID:    1033Additional information about the problem:  BCCode:    1000009f  BCP1:    0000000000000004  BCP2:    0000000000000258  BCP3:    FFFFFA8003B73680  BCP4:    FFFFF80000B9C510  OS Version:    6_1_7600  Service Pack:    0_0  Product:    256_1Files that help describe the problem:  C:\Windows\Minidump\060810-18174-01.dmp  C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-24928-0.sysdata.xmlRead our privacy statement online:  http://go.microsoft.... Answer:Shutdown problem with new T500

As an additional clarification, after I finished my first post, I shut the lid and the machine should go into standby, but the standby light (moon symbol thing) never comes on, and when I open the lid, the screen is black and the machine won't turn on unless I hold the power down and get it to reboot.  So, after I did that, I left it on and went outside for a while, then when I came back in, the screen was blank again and the machine unresponsive, so I had to reboot again.  Maybe that helps the diagnosis a little?

I recently purchased a T500 to replace my old T42P and am having a problem with the power saving settings that I can't solve.  For reasons that are unclear to me, when left idle, the machine will go into standby mode (even when it is using power from a wall socket and it is not supposed to go on standby).  This would not be a big issue except that once this happens I cannot awaken it from standby by any of the usual methods (briefly pressing the power button or using some keyboard combination). I am force to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button for +4 seconds. Does anyone have any insights about why the machine is entering standby and then not coming out of it normally?  I've looked at all of the power settings and cannot fathom what is wrong.  They are essentially the same as the ones I had on my T42P, which did not have this problem.

Question: T500 boot problem

Model: T500 2242System: Vista Business downgraded to XP pro  Hello, My laptop can't start Windows. The file \windows\system32\c_1252.nls is missing or corrupt. And I don't have a recovery disk. Here are few things I did before the problem appeared. 1 I used the "Rescue & Recovery" to backup files to my external hard drive yesterday. 2 When I tried to log in for the first time after that, system prompted me to run Chkdsk command, and I did. It corrected some files, but I don't remember details. 3 After I logged in, I ran the "Rescue & Recovery" to rejuvenate my system. It took 10 hours! Then my laptop restarted, and here I am, unable to do anything. I tried to recover the file from my external hard drive. I set the bios, connect the USB drive, press thinkvantage button, enter the rescue and recovery. After showing a few messages such as ' preparing the system', the laptop restarts again, and tells me that windows could not start for the file c_1252.nls is missing or corrupt. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi everyone, I have a 2 year old t500 with windows 7. Until recently, it was working fine, but today I woke up to find that it doesn't turn on properly. When I hit the power button, something inside turns on, but the screen remains off and the hd doesn't whir. On the strip of LEDs below the screen, the harddrive light doesn't turn on, but the battery, external power, and cd drive(?) lights turn on and are green. The cd tray opens and closes properly. But that's about it. I think it could be a hard drive problem or a motherboard problem. But i'm not sure. Any advice would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

It sounds like a dead mobo.  I would try to hook up an external monitor and see if you can see anything on the screen.  If that doesn't work it could be a dead mobo.

Hello, I've recently purchased a Lenovo T500 Thinkpad Notebook. And this might be a fairly easy problem to fix, but JUST to be safe. Whenever I use the Sound Recorder, after recording and I click the stop button, a window pops up saying the following: Not enough memory available to complete this operation.  Quit one or more applications to increase available memory, and then try again. If you recall I've stated that my Lenovo Thinkpad T500 is new, very new, no more than a few days new. I don't see any applications running. So what could be my problem?

After upgrading to the latest Conexant audio drivers (4.92.2.0) my audio stopped working.  Vista is showing a speaker icon with a red cross in the tray.   Swithing between Microsoft's and Conextant drivers it either shows:-  No audio device is installed- Or it show playback devices (Speakers and SPDIF interface) but testing these devices don't produce any sound output. Uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling the driver also doesn't work. Uninstall always reverts back to Microsoft's "High Definition Audio Device"- it seems that uninstalling this driver automatically reinstalls itself at system start-up. Launching from SmartAudio from the control panel also fails to start, most likely due to audio driver problem.Device manager is reporting that the device status is "This device is working properly." How do I get sound  to work again on the notebook?  System details:- Vista 32bit- T500- Product: 20827TG - BIOS: LENOVO 6FET70WW (3.00 ) 04/17/2009    Thank you,Philip Message Edited by philipf on 05-19-2009 07:08 PMMessage Edited by philipf on 05-19-2009 07:09 PM

Hello, im writing to get some help. After successful recovery of my system (Win.XP.Prof.En.) from recovery partition, 'Think Vantage Access Connections' started working weird.Im using my laptop in work and home. In both places im using encrypted WLAN (128 bit pre-shared key). After about 20-30 minutes, application hangs up and I'm unable to use it: click on systray icon and connect/reconnect. Making it simple: application is not responding. Only thing that helps is system reboot. As I said before - my system is fresh, i didn't do anything with drivers or applications. My laptop is also fully upgraded by 'Think Vantage Update Center'. Attached screens shows state when application is not responding. I have a brand-new T500. Due to shipping limitations, this was the only model available and it shipped with Windows XP. My company has standardized on Vista Business so I purchased the recovery DVD's with it and loaded Vista as soon as I got it. After the final boot upon install I get an error "ATI Graphics Adapter Driver failed to load." I have been messing with it for about 2 hours now. I've tried uninstalling the driver completely and alternatively installing a) The Lenovo version from the website b) the Microsoft version from Windows Update and c) the ATI version from their website (won't even load). Am I missing something?

I have a new T-500. Last night I installed my first new software -- Photoshop CS4 and a  card reader. Now the computer will not turn off or log off. It will, however, go into sleep mode.  I have changed nothing (that I know of anyway) except installing the software.  Do I need to do a system restore and then try to reinstall the software (which has never caused a problem of any kind with my old system) or is it likely that something else is wrong? I've had a t500 for the past 2 years and I haven't had a single problem with it (minus the keyboard flex, but that's a different story) until this morning. My wireless connection was working fine until randomly, I stopped being able to load new pages. My computer was still connected to my house's wifi (or so it said), but the internet just wouldn't work. I took it downstairs and plugged it into the router with an ethernet cord, but it still wasnt working. Then, directly into the modem, but still nothing. Keep in mind that through all of this, my computer still claimed it was connected to the network and all that. Every so often, it would change to "connected - no internet access" or "connected - no network access" or something similar. I dont think it's a problem with the router or modem, because all the other machines in my house can connect to the net just fine. On top of everything, I can get the internet to work for about 45 seconds if I restart my machine. Once restarted, my homepage will load, followed by the next page i try to get to, but then after about a minute, it stops again. I'm really at a loss for what to do here, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We have several Lenovo T500 with the Intel 5300 AGN Wirless card. We use the latest drivers from Lenovo System Update. We have updated also the BIOS, Power Management and Hotkeys. We use Windows XP SP3 with the latest hotfixes. We have the problem, that the T500 connects to the accesspoint but does not always receive a IP address. After several reboots it always works. We have T60, T61 notebooks running which do not have this problem. What can we do to make wireless work more reliable with T500 notebooks?

Answer:Lenovo T500 - Wireless Problem

I had the same problem with my T400 running Vista.  Any time the network changed the first attempt at connection came up w/out an IP address.  A reboot fixed it - until next time. What solved it was downgrading to a 5100.  This was suggested by a Lenovo 2nd-tier tech after trying a different 5300. I hope there's an easier fix, but this is what finally worked for me. Z.

My T500 hinge has failed twice now less than 4 months apart.  I repaired the first time at cost of $170 (half part and half labor), since it is older than 4 years.  With the hinge stuck I can't take my computer anywhere, since I'd have to open/close it and I am really frustrated.  I'm a student and use my computer everyday both at home and school so this prevents me from doing the work I need to graduate. I've been using Thinkpads for many years now and more recently the quality is bad.  This is terrible they would fail like this and this would have never happened under IBM's ownership.  I don't think I'll buy one in the future because of this issue. The hinge is the one closest to the power connection.  Both times the hinge has became stuck during normal use.  This time I was closing my laptop by pulling down from the middle.  I've been extra careful doing this since the first break, but it has always seemed a bit weak.  When it gets stuck it starts to push the front bevel open. Any suggestions?   I am checking if the repair company offers any gurantees, but I am really dissapointed since I think it is the poor robustness of the lenovo parts and repair parts.  I wish I would have saved my initial repair cost and put instead into a new laptop.

Answer:T500 hinge problem (2nd time)

Can somebody from Lenovo help me? I only want to know whether the hinge should normally be very difficult to turn?  Through the broken side I can use needle nose pliers to grip the upper half of the hinge arm, but I can't swing it forward or backward like this.  The only possible way is to pinch the front and back case tightly at the bottom of the hinge arm and use the torque of the screen to rotate, but this seems to continue to damage all the pieces surrounding the hinge.

Hi, I recently acquired a t500 from a friend but haven't been able to use it properly yet because the screen won't turn on.  When I power on I can see the thinkpad logo very faintly. I can only get the screen to work with a monitor. I have also managed to get into the boot order by removing battery and HDD but only been able to see it at stupid angles or with a bright light. This leads me to thinking it is a backlight/inverter problem.  Any help or suggestions would be beneficial.  - I have also reseated the RAM

Answer:T500 Screen Problem - Black

Welcome to the forum.

> When I power on I can see the thinkpad logo very faintly. I can only get the screen to work with a monitor.

Yes, those are classic symptoms of a defective CCFL backlight or inverter. T500 models came in several different LCD panel configurations so, if you plan to try to repair this make sure you get the right parts. Some T500 models used the new (at that time) LED backlight technology.

Or if this sounds too daunting or too expensive, especially for such an old system, then use an external monitor.

Hi, I've received my T500 after a HDD replacement, and a fresh Win XP. A really strange thing happens sometimes (not every time), either when I plug in the AC, or when I try to shut down the display through fn+f3, the display starts jumping horizontally, either the whole image, or parts of the screen, jump to the right and then back. What seems to stop it, is if I change the resolution momentarily.  Any ideas if this is a hardware problem, or a driver problem, and how I might be able to fix it? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi there, Few weeks ago, I decided to install Vista x64 on a "clean" T500 with initial configuration (Vista 32 bits + where everything was working fine), I used ThinkVantage System Update and downloaded everything, then, my problem came. First, during the 1st week, I couldn't play more than an hour before my T500 lag during 20sec and then crash (Usb devices turns off, then screen comes black + Power led off then nothing). It has become worse and worse over the time, now I can't even play 15min to a "recent" game... I don't know if the Vista 64bits installation modified anything like the maximum supported temperature before crash or anything like but just take a look at this to understand :  http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/5171/tempsa.jpg (Graph scale is 10 minuts, I turned on the game approx. at 4) For my configuration well ... I tried to download the new ATI Catalyst drivers, same thing ... So I'm here to ask your help :-( ... Thanks

Hi there, I am having trouble with my newely installed 2GB stick of ram. Let me step back and explain exactly whats was going on.  I purchased a new T500 in September and it arrived in early October. It is configured with Windows Vista Business 32-bit and 2GB of memory. I decided to keep some of the Lenovo Thinkpad software so I felt that my system was running a little slow.So I went on Newegg and ordered another 2GB stick that can be found here. After the ram arrived I installed it and first checked BIOS. BIOS was reading 4GB. Now I understand that I have only a 32-bit version so the 4GB will not be completely recognized. So, when I start windows and go into System from control panel it also reads 4GB. However, when I go into task manger it says that the total physical memory is only 2519MB!!! Thats a mere 500mb increase from what I had before. Now, this is my first experience with Vista and so far I was pretty happy. I have a desktop with 32-bit Window XP Pro setup and when I installed 4GB of ram on that the system managed to read 3.5GB. I dont know whats going on with my laptop. So in general can someone explain to me whats going on??? Why is task manager only reading my 4GB config as 2.5GB??? And what is the best way for me to switch my Vista Business 32-bit to the  Vista Business 64-bit version??

Hi, I'm having some difficulty in getting my bluetooth headset to work with Skype (or anything else for that matter). here's the current state of things: My headset is set up and paired as a "hands free audio device". In "my bluetooth places" it shows up with a good signal strength. Authorization is set to "headset" only (no audio gateway). The version of the Broadcom Bluetooth Software is 5.5.0.580  . Looks pretty ok - but unfortunately it shows neither up as an  audio device in the control panel (Win XP SP3) - nor does Skype recognize the headset. Maybe I'm overlooking something fundamental...? Hi,for our Hospital, we have received new T500 with docking station. For our purposes of sleep studies, we need to use the machine with parallel port dongle. Unfortunately, the T500 cannot recognize the dongle. I tried to set the parallel port properties in bios but with no result (ecp, bi-directional, output only). Do you think it will help to use another interface reduction? (via PCMCIA, or ethernet,.......... ) More, i put the T500 into the docking station and let it feed from it, when i unplug the supply, T500 will report an error and restart......If i do the same without connecting it into the docking station, it works properly Operating system is Win XP, SP2 . the old T61 use to allow for a serial/parallel ultrabay adapter, i am not sure the T500 still kept that particular interface.

if the problem persists with different battery, then it is likely that you have a problem with the motherboard. The flashing battery should mean that the battery is below 5% charge level.

I have been using my laptop with the same battary since 01.01.2009 (Almost 3.5 Years), and the battary has been working quite OK. Most of the time my laptop is plugged in and working with the electricity. However, A very few times I used the laptop while it is running on battery, Nevertheless, I have the habit to empty the batter once in a while i.e. Every 3 weeks, I unplug the charger and keep using the laptop till I see the warning orange sign (5%), then, I plug it in again. Thankfully, I never had any problems with the battary nor the laptop, and when I charge the laptop usually it shows full sign (100%). Three days ago, All of a sudden my laptop starts flashing the orange battary sign constantly while charge indicates 100%. When I try running on the battery by unplugging the AC adapter, the laptop loses power immediately and shuts down right away. What do you think should I do? Could you please provide me any useful tips to resolve th... Read more

I've just bought new battery for my notebook. On the battery's label I can find out that it's 7800mAh and voltage is 10.8V. It should be 9-cell. http://i.imgur.com/td2a2aG.jpgBut the problem is that my notebook with this battery can work only for about 1h40m on maxium performance powerplan or just about 3h on maximum battery's life.Attachment below shows Power Manager window. It says the battery is 71.28Wh ( 71.28Wh*1000/10.8V = 6600mAh!).http://i.imgur.com/lN4ZwYq.pngComputer's configuration is:C2D P8700 @ 2.53GHz1x SSD + 1xHDD UltraBay ATI M3650HD6GB RAMWSXGA+ 1680x1050Windows 7 SP1 with no "powerhungry" CPU processes (idle CPU's overload on both cores about 0-2%). My older battery which I used to use for 3 years with ~40Wh full charge capacity can power notebook exactly for the same time. I tried to upgrade BIOS but it didn't gave me any solution. Resetting battery's gauge neither.  Does anyone know what is wrong with it? How long does your computer can work on the 6600mAh batteries? Thanks for replies.

Answer:[T500] Problem with SANYO 7800mAh battery

Hi, welcome to the forum!

There are discrepancies between the photo of the battery and the FRU that is printed there (92P1139) and the FRU that Power Manager reports, and between the stated capacity of this battery and the capacity of a real 93P5030.

Both of these discrepancies and the fact that Power manager does not give you the firmware version of the battery lead me to believe that the battery might be counterfeit.
Have you bought it as an original Lenovo part? If so you should return it to the vendor as soon as possible. The same you should do if you bought it as a non OEM part but compatible, because clearly it isn't.
