System protection - current usage exceed max usage

Question: System protection - current usage exceed max usage

I have 50GB of hard drive space reporting as unusable, seems to be the system restore data. Disk Cleanup reports the max limit for system restore is set to 7GB, but the actual used is 50GB. How can the actual exceed the max quota? I deleted all previous restore points, and did a disk cleanup, but nothing changes.

Preferred Solution: System protection - current usage exceed max usage

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

In system protection, the current usage is at 405GB while max usage is defined at 279GB (30%).
1) How this can happen ? ,and
2) How can I set the Max Usage to be kept?

Answer:System Restore - Current usage exceeds Max Usage

Hello Abax,

The tutorial below can help show you how to set the max usage for system protection.

I'm going to have to start this story/inquiry in the middle, and work my way to the beginning and end.

In the System Protection window (configure restore settings), While my computer is powered up, why is the Current Usage figure constantly increasing throughout the day, at the rate of about 2 GB a day? This is WITHOUT adding any new restore points.

Now for the beginning:
A few days after getting this new Win8 computer, I noticed that some restore point that had been there, were gone. Only the most recent was left.

I further noticed that, out of the box, the Max Usage was set at 1% (about 9 GB) and that the Current Usage (now at only 1 restore point) was around 8 GB.

I bumped the Max Usage up to 2% (about 18 GB), deleted my restore point, and created 2 new restore points.

My Current Usage was now around 19 MB.

I checked on it a short while later, and the Current Usage had shot up to 200 MB.
It continues to grow, now, 3 days later, it is up to 8 GB and growing.
Why is this happening?

My theory is that when the Current Usage grows to the point of reaching the Max Usage, I'll lose restore points until only the most recent remains.

Where I'm at now:

I was given a program called ShadowExplorer. It shows what is in the Shadow Copies, which to my understanding are essentially the restore points. There is one Shadow Copy for each restore point.

(Just to be accurate, as of now, I have a total of 5 restore points, having added new ones before install... Read more

I have a question regarding restore points; when I go into the system protection configuration settings one of the options is the setting for maximum disk space usage.

I had the slider set to 4% of my total disk memory which is about 27.45 GB, (I have a 750GB Hard drive). Is that where I should be? The amount of used disk space on that hard drive is about 380 GB. Of the three options given for restore settings I have ticked the "Restore System Settings and Previous Versions of Files".

I'm assuming that the 4% I have set in "Maximum Usage" is enough because it only needs to hold some system information reference links, (I think). What I mean is I don't think that the slider should be set to the same amount of gigabytes as the amount of used space on my hard disk, right?

I would appreciate an answer as soon as possible. Without going into too much detail the need for me to know this has a lot hinged on it.
Thank you, Rich

Answer:What is Meant by 'Max Usage' when configuring System Protection?

Hello wingclip and welcome to Seven Forums.

That slider lets you set aside a percentage of your total hard drive for restore points and other system info. Using just approximate figures, if you set aside 10% of your hard drive, you'd be left with about 675GB of usable hard drive space. (750GB - 75GB = 675GB.)

System Protection - Change Disk Space Usage

NOTE: A hard drive rated as 750GB by the manufacturer really has only 698GB of usable space because the manufacturer says 1GB = 1000MB but the computer says 1GB = 1024MB. Not trying to make it confusing but the larger the hard drive the greater the difference in usable space.

I think you should be fine with 4%. If the 4% doesn't provide enough space for the next newest restore point, the oldest restore points(s) will automatically be deleted to make enough room.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

A few weeks back, my C: drive started mysteriously filling up to the point where it was running out of space completely.

I would run CCleaner, organize things, clean out my downloads folder, and in some cases even delete some of the games I hadn't played in a while to make more room. A couple days would go by and it would be filling up again!

I finally figured out that my System Protection maximum disk usage was set to 50%, and Windows 7 was graciously creating many restore points every time I made any sort of change to my system (removing a game, for instance or installing a new one) and it was filling up my hard drive quickly.

I don't know how this got set to 50%, I certainly didn't do it as I didn't even know this existed. It is supposed to be 10% by default.

I changed it to 10% and deleted the old restore points. Things were back to normal for about a week, and then I noticed it was filling up again.

I just not checked it, and it was set back to 50% again! I changed it back down to 5% and again deleted the old restore points.

I have run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and I have run a full scan using Avast! Free, and I have run a full scan using Spybot Search & Destroy, and none of these have caught the culprit. Could anyone help diagnose why my system protection settings keep getting changed to 50% maximum disk space being available for system restore points? I would like to set this to 5% or 10% and have it stay there... Read more

Answer:System protection maximum disk usage changing itself to 50%

The easiest (and best) solution is to completely disable system restore and begin using disc imaging software on a regular basis instead. It's more reliable, all encompassing, and infinitely better protection.

I was doing to some research and found out that my system protection usage is using 226 GB. For some reason it is at 53%.

Can I delete the restore points w/o causing harm to my computer? What is in those files?

If I decide to delete, what is the recommended size should it be? I have a 500GB HHD

Answer:What is the default disk space usage for system protection?

Your specs show Avast AV, and Avast has a known problem with setting the max usage for system restore.

Here are some Avast forum threads about this:

Answer:95% CPU usage and 95% System Idle Usage?

There are times when task manager will misrepresent the total processor usage as well over 100% constantly. This is usually caused by one of three things :
1.Bad DriversMalware on the system
2.A Flaky Windows install - was this an upgrade or an old OS install?
3.A Problem with the motherboard (try a firmware update)

Does a PC draw more current if the memory is used to capacity, the same way the CPU draws more current and gets hotter if the CPU usage is higher?

Answer:Current and memory usage

Yes. The memory is probably always being refreshed even in sleep mode so that the more memory that is installed, the more power the psu needs to supply. I don't think that would be a significant amount though. You may need additional power if you are doing things that write lots of data to memory and you have installed the maximum amount of memory your system can handle.

I have read where heat is not a problem with memory modules so that is probably not a concern to you, is it?

I have an older laptop that runs on Windows XP and after I got a nasty rogue anti-spyware installed on it, I found this site to help me remove it, and found some of the programs that are supposed to help keep my computer clean and running at its best. I installed Avast! and ZoneAlarm to protect my computer, along with the WOT, Adblock Plus, and NoScript add-ons to Firefox to alert me of a site's reputation, block annoying/malicious ads, and block possible drive-by downloads (and other annoying scripts).

The problem I now have, though, is that even with memory optimizers I constantly run out of memory when running my computer. I would like to see if there is a free replacement for what these tools do that takes up less memory. I have access to a free version of McAffee through my school, but otherwise must rely on normal freeware.

The problem I now have, though, is that even with memory optimizers I constantly run out of memory when running my computer. Can you please tell us how you know you "run out of memory"?Is it because said memory optimizers tell you you've run out of memory?Or do you get a Windows warning (which one exactly)?Or does your computer get really slow, and you explain this by "running out of memory"?

Anti-malware/anti-spyware recommendations for a laptop running Windows 7 SP1 and a tower PC running XP SP3? I'm already using Microsoft Security Essentials on the laptop and Avast! on the tower and the built in firewall for both, so that is covered. I need the most up date freeware that doesn't hog memory, thanks.

Answer:protection that is up to date & low memory usage

I ditched Avast last month and have been relying solely on MS Security Essentials for real-time protection for both my desktops (XPsp3 and 7sp1) along with the built-in firewall in both cases (I'm behind a NAT router anyway.) So far, no issues. I also keep Malwarebytes Antimalware installed and updated for on-demand second opinions.

Hello,

My laptop has Windows 10 64 bit installed. It's an AMD A8 with a Radeon graphics card.

Task Manager shows Microsoft Software Protection Platform Service uses about %30 CPU. It happens about every 40-60 seconds, lasts for about 10. This started relatively recently (not after any upgrades/updates)

I followed the instructions written here to no avail: Microsoft Software Protection Platform Service - Microsoft Community

Scans (Windows defender, malwarebytes and Microsoft Safety Scanner) said the computer is clean. The problem does not happen in Safe Mode, but does happen after a clean boot. Currently have no office programs installed (will have them soon though). Winodws updates are most recent.

Apparently you can disable the service via regedit and the problem goes away, but it then causes another problem: I then have a "Windows is not activated" showing on my screen at all times. Regardless I would rather solve this by some other means if possible.

Appreciate any help.

Hijack log below

Two weeks ago my Quark 7 stopped working - it will start and come up with the splash screen, but then will not go any further - a list of processes shows it's running at 50 cpu usage and 78944 memory usage. I have tried uninstalling reinstalling and have ran Norton's Antivirus, Spybot Search and Destroy and CCleaner to no avail. I have attached my HiJack log below.

The main programs that I use daily (and yes Quark is one of them) are the following

Adobe Photoshop CS3, ACDSee 9, Outlook express, Quark 7.0, Internet Explorer, Dreamweaver 8

Hi guys, hope you can help me please. I'm not too computer savvy so sorry if I'm missing something important or I say something dumb. I'm really frustrated and I'm trying my best to learn and solve this problem.
So I bought this Vaio with Core i5-3210M, 4Gb Ram, Windows 8 64 bit. I had really high hopes for it, coming from an i3. For the first few weeks it worked fine, but then it started to freeze while watching movies. Then it started happening all the time, and the cooling fan became consistently noisy for working at full capacity.
I was used to opening task manager on older systems when this happened to see if there was a non-responding program and force it closed, so I noticed Task Manager offers some more features in Win 8. Here, I see that CPU usage is high, staying always around 70% and from time to time reaching 100. At this moment, the process taking the biggest slice is called VCS System Tray with 58%.
What's perhaps more concerning, is that Disk usage is almost constantly on 100%. And by this I mean it reaches 100 and stays there for long periods of time, perhaps up to 20 minutes, then it falls down a few seconds and up again to 100. During this time the computer is excruciatingly painful to use. To even open a program takes forever. When this happens, it seems that Chrome is at the top of the list of processes with most disk usage, with about 1-2Mbps, but this sometimes changes and the list can be led by System, Utorrent, Octoshape, VCS System Tray, Communication... Hi,

I just bought my brand new laptop and have loaded Vista Ultimate 32bit onto it for about 5 days. I noticed something unusual about Vista's CPU usage while idle in the task manager as well as the Resource monitor.

I have attached two pictures to show my problem. Notice that my CPU usage is always at about 40-60% on both of my cores. However, the average CPU usage per process shows that it should actually occupy about 15% to at most 20% (by adding up all the highest average CPU for processes in the first picture). The second picture I attached shows the current CPU usage sorted by max usage, and again it does not add up to 41%!

Although at 40-60% usage, I do not notice any major performance impacts, as both cores are not loaded to the max. However, I do notice Vista chewing up more battery than needed when I have my laptop running off batteries. Because the max frequency for the processor would always need to be raised to around 60% even when idle (instead of say... 10-20%).

I have searched online for various problems relating to high CPU usage, and most of the responses are about tracing down which process is the culprit. Well, this is where I'm stumped because it all does not add up! According to the process view, everything is normal but my system resources are still get constantly chewed up by something invisible it seems.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated at this point!

Answer:Vista Ultimate 32: high CPU usage does not correspond with process usage

Posting two more image to show this problem from the task manager...

Notice that the system idle process is 84, and yet CPU usage is 42? I always thought that:
CPU usage + idle process = 100?

Perhaps things are done differently with dual core processors? This is my first dual core so I'm not sure. The second image shows how both my cores are being used roughly equally, at around 50%.

Ok, I am literally KILLING myself over this!

I installed Windows 7 64Bit over XP around a month ago and it was so good that I recommended it to my brother who was previously on XP too. We got him a copy of the 32bit version as he has only 2gb of memory, and he installed it on his machine. However, he constantly had high CPU and RAM usage (Even though no programs were obviously taking it all up in his task manager) and it was making his computer sluggish and slow. Everything was freezing and hanging and it was a nightmare.

I spent a day looking all over the net to find out the problem, but could not fix it at all, no matter what the hell I tried. So he reverted back to Windows XP. (A nice waste of money on Windows 7.) His Windows XP now runs smoothly and is all as it was.

Suddenly today, after my brother connected to my Windows 7 homegroup (or workgroup rather) through his Windows XP machine, my computer got the EXACT same problem as he had ages ago! I have been browsing Google all day downloading s**t, changing things in my computer, trying EVERY possible fix that people have suggested and that sound legit. Nothing works!

So now all of a sudden, my computer is sluggish, games are jumpy and jittery, video rendering times are slooooooow.

Here is a picture of my resource monitor:
You can see the physical memory usage being at 45%. I've ordered the memory usage of each service in highest to lowest.
I just CANT see where the problem is!

When you are looking at memory, do not sort by Working set, sort by Hard faults.
Hard faults is what causes things to slow down. Plus you have plenty of memory not to worry about usage.

Just yesterday I realized that my computer was acting super slowly and I even received a blue screen of death out of nowhere. Upon checking my processes list,I found many suspicious processes that continued to multiply when I tried to end them. These included: PresentationHost.exe, msdtc.exe, dllhost.exe, prevhost.exe, cmd.exe, msiexec.exe, conhost.exe, and even a notepad.exe that seems to be invisible. A malware is most likely behind this, and is causing my computer to perform very slowly and be almost unusable, I have managed to run FRST, but Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not even opening for me. In addition, this multiplying issue seems to only occur when I am connected to the internet. I would highly appreciate some help!

Greetings,

I formatted my computer, and after installing windows 7 again, my physical memory in task manager is very high, and cpu keeps jumping up and down.

I looked at the processes tab, but noticed absolutely nothing taking abnormal memory (private working set.) Then moved on to performance tab> resource monitor, and found svchost (I think it was netsvcs in parenthesis,) hogging all the memory. After ending the process, I still have had high memory usage, and surprisingly, do not see a process anywhere in task manager with high numbers next to it, so I have no idea what's happening.

I have noticed that my windows 7 folder keeps increasing in size, currently about 26 gigs, and a helper told me that it's normal because the updates in windows 7 have a different compression method than windows 8 and after, however when I had previously installed windows 7, fully updated... my folder size was normal, so I assume it can be done?

I originally posted in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs section, however I did not find malware on my computer, so unless it's very new malware, I am certain windows 7 is causing this problem.

For antivirus, I am currently using a free trial of Norton.

Advice?

P.S. This is probably better for the hardware section, but can constant high physical memory, and cpu usage ruin my hardware? I am avoiding using things that take up high cpu and memory right now, and it's currently about 1.2 g... Read more

Hi all, hope you can help.

Every so often, when listening to online radio streams/playing games etc my computer just goes crazy. I get a lot of hard drive 'chatter' and lots of fan noise and everything slows to a crawl. My music will start jumping and skipping and there is a long delay between me clicking the mouse and the action happening. It happens when no other programs (for example, my AV/AS) are due to scan. When I look at my Task Manager the two biggest eaters of memory usage are fm.exe (game, it normally eats a load but makes no substantial difference to the comp speed) and ekrn.exe (something to do with my AV, not quite sure what it actually does though)

I am running Windows MCE SP3 and am using NOD32 anti-virus and Sunbelt CounterSpy anti-spyware. The definitions on both are updated daily and both scan daily. I have also defragged the comp and do so weekly. The other programs I use are CCleaner and Glary Utilities, both fairly regularly to clean up my comp when I was working as an internet researcher, but less often now.

I do not get any error messages/BSOD's or actual freezes. Everything just slows right down. Could I have picked up a form of malware/virus that my AV/AS isn't picking up? Could one of my previous spring cleans have been too aggressive? Or is it simply too much load for my comp (2 year old Dell)? It is 3MHz, 1G RAM, kinda your bog standard media comp from 2007.

Your thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated as it's starting ... Read more

Answer:Computer is apparently being scanned - high CPU usage/memory usage

When you experience or encounter strange behavior, always check for new, unknown or suspicious processes in Task Manager. Most of the processes in Task Manager will be legitimate as shown in these links.List of common system processes found in XP's Task ManagerCommon system processes found in XP's Task ManagerTop System ProcessesAnytime you come across a suspicious file or one that you do not recognize, search the name using Google or the following databases:BC's Startup Programs DatabaseSystemLookup StartupList IndexFile Research CenterProcessLibrary.comDetermining whether a file is malware or a legitimate process sometimes depends on the location (path) it is running from. One of the ways that malware tries to hide is to give itself the same name as a critical system file. However, it then places itself in a different location on your computer. Another techinique is for the process to alter the registry and add itself as a Startup program so that it can run automatically each time the computer is booted. A file's properties may give a clue to identifying it. Edit: Posted this on the wrong forum! DOH. Reported as this is for Windows 8, not 7.

Windows 10's message was typically IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, suspecting a driver issue I reformatted to 8.1 which I am on now. The message I'm getting now is PFN_LIST_CORRUPT.

Hardware/full build: Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core, GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GAMING X 8G, Node 804 MicroATX Mid Tower - System Build - PCPartPicker

My strongest suspect is memory, however HeavyLoad ran for 4+ hours maxing both memory and CPU before the system decided to restart. I also ran a Memtest86+ which passed multiple times. I still suspect a memory problem though as I am unable to boot the system with 4 sticks installed unless I have the XMP profile already activated. 3 sticks is fine, 2 sticks is fine, 1 stick is fine, different ports are fine. I tried different sticks in different slots and no change.

Tonight I am getting a lot of the following errors in the event log. This is while the computer was remaining idle on the login screen. I'm running WoW now and there are none to be seen.

Recently my computer has been plagued by High CPU and general malware. I believe i've removed most of the malware. But I can't seem to fix the issue with the dllhost.exe and multiple explorer.exe running.

First i ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit. Found lots of issues. all resolved. Ran them recently again and no malware was found. Still have the explorer.exe issue though.

Then I used combofix, but it changed nothing.

In the meanwhile i've just been ending the explorer.exe processes that take high CPU. This allows me to temporarily use my computer before they start popping up again.

Answer:dllhost.exe, multiple explorer.exe's, high CPU usage, and memory usage

I don't know what you need me to post. Hopefully this might provide some insight.

Every 10-40 minutes, the application I'm currently working in [whither it be skype, L4D2, or firefox] becomes unresponsive, and after a minute or two, the window turns white, notifying me that it's not responding. This unresponsiveness quickly spreads to other open processes, rendering them frozen as well. I can still use the mouse, and it appears rainmeter still responds [updates, showing barely any CPU usage].

Steps I've taken to try and resolve this:
Using only one main program, still does it
turning the computer off and on again
Memtest is clean
chkdisk passes
MBAM/MSE scans return nothing
defragged
no memory overflows that I can see

While troubleshooting, I noticed that during the 'fit of unresponsiveness' the disk usage light on my tower is solid, but when I looked at the disk usage in the resource monitor, no processes whatsoever were using it [screenshot related]

If any more specifications are needed, I'll be happy to elaborate.
Thanks!

Answer:Frequent unresponsiveness, 100% hardware disk usage, 0% software usage

It could be indexing. What if you turn off indexing just as an experiment?

So on Saturday of last week my PC started to run slow. I open up task manager to check what was going on and I am greeted with it showing me that I have very high CPU usage, and constant capped-out disk usage.
Over the course of the past few days I have reinstalled Windows 10, updated drivers, completely formatted my previous hard-drive, and just today I received a new SSD. However, my problem STILL persists, and I'm all out of ideas on what I need to in order to solve this.

My Motherboard is an ASUS Z97-P with an Intel i5-4690K processor. If you need more specifications, or a program to be run, then I would be happy to do so.

For further information, the system ran normally when booting from a Windows 8.1 hard-drive, and did have a blip of normal performance on Windows 10, but resumed misbehaving when the computer was re-started.

Answer:Constant 100% Disk Usage, 60-80% CPU usage. Both happen when idle.

in Task Manager sort by CPU usage and see what apps are responsible.

HELP!My computer has become ridiculously slow, taking minutes to do nothing. The computer is quite old (4-5 years), but has had XP and MS Office installed fom Day 1. I have not added any other software which might explain the slowness. When the computer is slow, if I Ctrl:Alt:Delete, the CPU usage is sometimes very high (80%) or above, but not always, however, the Page file usage history is always at least 80/90% of capacity (value reads as nearly 400Mb).What is the page file usage history? Is this likely to be why my computer is slow and can any settings be changed, or do I have to bin the computer and buy one which works? Thanks

Hi,
I have a i7 3770k at 3.9 ghz, so stock with turbo boost.
I tried oc'ing to 4.5 ghz, didnt fix the problem.
Basically, in some games i get high cpu usage and at the same time low gpu usage.
My system is i7 3770k, gtx1070, 16 gb ddr3 ram, corsair hx850i psu.
In witcher 3 novigrad, which is cpu heavy, i sometimes get gpu usage at like 70% which causes stutter, at the same time cpu usage is around 85%.
When i leave town i get 95-99% gpu usage again and my cpu usage drops.
Dying light same, if cpu usage is high my gpu usage drops.
Battlefield 1 is normally fine in 95-99% gpu usage, except st quentin, but others reported this too.
What can this be? My cpu shouldnt be bottlenecking. Like i said i trid overclocking, didn't help.
nvcp is set to prefer maximum performance and i'm playing at 1440p 144hz.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi folks

I posted this problem at Spyware Specific forum, but was advised to post here.

Recently when I use RealProducer Plus v.10 to convert mpeg2 clips to rmvb, it takes a long time to do so. When I checked, RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage - as much as 94-95%, causing total CPU usage to be 95-98%. I have scanned with Norton and Adaware - all ok. Then I used Spy Sweeper - it found and cleared Csmin. Howveer, the problem still remains when I use RealProducer.

CPU usage without using RealProducer

CPU usage using RealProducer

Will my CPU will be damaged if CPU usage is so high?

Please help to take a look at my .exe processes. Are they OK?
What is PQV2iSvc.exe?

Please advise. Thanks a lot!

Answer:RealProducer utilises over 90% CPU usage? Will high CPU usage damage CPU?

To answer your question about PQV2iSvc.exe is part of Power Quest drive image and Norton Ghost drive backup software.

Converting video formats can be a resource intensive process. Unless your system temps are getting really high there shouldn't be any damage to the CPU.

I have the following config-> Windows XP Professional SP2 which I have been using for the last 3 years.-> Updated Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 running for the last 1 year.-> No new software were installed in the last month that I can recall of.Suddenly I get this problem:1. I ran an application one day (it was winrar), and nothing starts.2. Task manager shows CPU usage as 50 (I have dual core), while memory usage remains at 84k3. After a few days vlcplayer.exe started giving the same problem-> So, I reinstalled windows (formatted my C drive and installed a fresh copy). -> Everything worked fine. I was using Irfanview.exe with no problems, but then one day again, IrfanView.exe did not start. Same problem : CPU usage was 50% while memory remained really low.-> I uninstalled it from C:/program files and installed a new copy in C:/program files --- this did not solve the problem-> I uninstalled it again from C:/program files and installed to D:/ Now it works fine...-> But now again I got the same problem with media player.exeI have tried a virus scan with Kaspersky (updated) and a scan with spybot. They both came out to be clean.Any ideas?I cant reinstall Windows as that did not solve the problem.

Answer:CPU usage increases to max (while memory usage doesnt) when I run a application

I dont know if this helps: I read somewhere about creating a drive image for easy backup. So I tried DriveImageXML, but it gave an error regarding CRC check which related to bad sectors i suppose. I ran a scan disk before installing a fresh copy of Windows. Obviously, this hasnt helped either.

I have been having a big problem the last week with my computer. Everything is running incredibly slow. I opened the windows task manager, and it has shown very high CPU usage, often fluctuating between 80% and 100%, though sometimes staying between about 5-20%. The page file usage has been conistently high, the lowest being in the mid-600 kbs, while most often staying around 720 or 730 kbs. These patterns seem to be unaltered by the amount of programs I have running (the problem occurs even when there are absolutely no programs running) or whether I'm on the internet or not. I am very ignorant when it comes to computers, but I suspected it was some sort of spyware problem. However, after scanning with Norton 360, Spybot's Search and Destroy, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, and Microsoft Defender, only a few low-level threats showed up, and fixing them led to no improvement in my computer's performance. The slow functioning seems to be directly related to the times when the CPU usage is high.

My OS is Microsoft XP. My processor is 1.73 GHz. I have 504 MB of RAM. I will attach my HijackThis log below. I hope I haven't forgotten any necessary information, but I would appreciate any help you can offer. I'm becoming very frustrated.

For over about a month now my DSL internet has been dropping randomly. It disconnects completely for a few seconds to fifteen minutes, then picks back up. This happens usually every twenty or so minutes, it's very random, so this is just a mode. The speed itself is not affected (when it's on, it's fine). I've been able to determine that the reason is somewhere on my desktop.

It's a HP Envy with intel i7 3.40 GHz. About a year and three months old, and using windows 8. I typically use google chrome for browsing, only occasionally firefox. I am connected to my internet wirelessly, which is broadcasted from the router a floor beneath me. The router is plugged into a phone jack, shared with the house phone (no problems with the phone what-so-ever). Tbaytel is my provider, and I use Kaspersky antivirus. Network details; Speed-72.0 mbps. Sent-13,936,*** and counting. Received- 244,015,*** and counting. Security type is WPA2-Personal, Encryption type is AES and we have a security key set up (That we recently changed to see if it would help, and of course it didn't).

This is what's scary;

Processes under the task manager brought up nothing, but looking at the Wi-fi under the Performance tab showed that something is definitely going on. The amount of Wi-fi usage spikes HUGE amounts! But at the time I took this screenshot, I was only running an antivirus full scan (which turned up nothing), google chrome on this site, and had both the task ... Read more

Answer:Internet cutting out from MASSIVE usage, but usage not accounted for.

About your new router...
How long have you been using it or since when did you got it?
How long has it been opened? Have you tried powercycling it? (Turning it off and then on)

Also, Have you tried testing it while your laptop is directly plugged in on your router with an ethernet cable? (Try speedtest.net)

Does this happen to other of your computers or device?
Does Tbaytel do line testing when you called them?

Every time I start my computer in the morning, my CPU usage and PF usage are very high, slowing down the system, for about 45 mins to 1 hour. I have included images of the Performance Tab and Processes tab of Task Manager. The image of the Performance Meter is not a totally accurate reflection of the issue, because usually the CPU usage bounces between 60% and 100%.I am using Windows XP Home EditionVersion 2002Service Pack 3Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80 GHz1.5 GB RAMI have already used CCLeaner and Uniblue. I have scanned with MS Defender and AVG Free version. That is the current AV software I am running. I am also using Norton Ghost to maintain a backup of my computer. I want to try and fix the problem before I reformat and reload EVERYTHING.Is this a sign of spyware/malware or is my system finally too old?

Answer:CPU Usage and PF Usage very high for 45 mins after startup

One more thing. Networking is always at or close to zero.

Hello breal,do these please, post the logs and update me.Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (v2.4.0.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. hey all! ever since i upgraded my laptop's win8 to win10 im getting these usages... and the machine is runnig REALLY SLOW....
i saw that it's a common problem so i looked up some solutions and tried the following:

1- i changed the registry - ?HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management? and changed ?ClearPageFileAtShutDown? value to 1
2- adjusted windows 10 to "best performance" in system settings
3- i disabled many startup programs
4- i defragemented the C drive
5- uninstalled all the programs that i could
6- I disabled "Show me tips about Windows"
7- changed the power settings profile

NONE OF THOSE WORKED. PLEASE HELP!

After a couple of hours search and read I am unable to find a definitive answer to the question as to whether the two subject terms are identical.

If anyone has absolute certainty about this I would appreciate your posting.

So, it's exactly as the title says,
I downgraded back down to windows 8 after feeling some sluggishness with my windows 10 OS.
It started off fine, but once I started downloading and installing necessary windows update files, I noticed once again the sluggishness I felt before, except this time my System Disk which is also my SSD drive, was being used up to 100% while my CPU was completely fine

Can someone please help me out in this scenario.

Hi, In November I purchased a new Lenovo Y50. It's the non-touch 1080p version with the GTX960m. Recently, I've had issues with the fans spinning up while the laptop is idle. I opened task manager, and there are random spikes of 100% disk usage on startup and sometimes when I leave the machine idle or I'm using Chrome. Recently, I've noticed strange spikes in CPU usage too, with occasional bouts of 20% usage for seemingly no reason.  I contacted support, and they weren't able to find any issues, but had me install Lenovo Solution Center and do a full run of the tests, which didn't find anything wrong. They also had me disable all non essential startup programs and see if the problem happened again, and it does. However, cpu and disk temperatures were normal, so I was told to just monitor the problem and see if anything changes.   My system's definitely not functioning properly. Startup is notably slow considering it has the 8gb ssd and I never had issues with the fans coming on when I first got it. I've heard that there are issues with the hybrid 8gb ssd/1 tb hdd, so I need some input on this. Why is this happening? Is it a hardware issue? Firmware? My case number is 8006295558. I would greatly appreciate some help from a rep or anyone who can give me a hand with the issue.

Ok, so recently my desktop (a very NICE desktop) has been crashing and such. Even when I'm not in Maya or Photoshop, I see in the task manager the usage jumping around like crazy. I've noticed that svchost.exe sucks 100,000% or more of my usage and I can't load Counter Strike Source anymore without it crashing to the desktop or forcing me to restart my PC because of a blank screen. I've tried many programs that may help it like Process Tamer, Registry Cleaners, FreeRAMXP Pro and others, but the problem remains. This started happening just recently so....

Anyway, WTF!!? How do I alleviate this b/s??

I've recently been getting 100% CPU usage errors, and over the top memory usage, then my computer for the most part locks up. I've reinstalled WinXP, fixed IE settings back to origional settings. Ran antispyware programs and AVG. At first my problems started when I played games on Facebook, getting script errors. As I've been doing a lot of studying on these problems, I got to thinking maybe I need more memory. Then I start getting 100% CPU errors.

I've noticed in my task manager in Processes there are lots of svchost.exe listings, and a few other programs that are listed more than once. Im attaching a picture of this list, in idle mode. Wandering if anyone else sees anything that may look odd.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

So I've been dealing with high CPU usage and physical memory usage for a while now and was wondering if anyone could help. I've been looking at windows task manager and I think I've found the culprit. I rebooted my computer just to make sure and I believe its one of the 12 svchost.exe processes running on my computer. When the computer rebooted it was fine but then after some minutes that process shot up to as much as 1,000,000k in physical memory usage right now its around 705,148k. I assume that there is my problem but I am not exactly sure so I was wondering if anyone here could help me out. Thanks.

Answer:High CPU usage and memory usage

Make sure all drivers are up to date. etc
Use Process Explorer to pin point the actual problem.

I am currently running Windows 8 (not 8.1), and have been experiencing difficulty with my disc usage. Programs (especially upon startup) have been unresponsive or painfully slow lately, and upon checking the Task Manager, the Disc Usage will be at 100% or close to 100%. I have also noticed this happening when starting large programs such as games and Word. There is no logical explanation from the Task Manager, the most I have seen a process using during these spikes is around 7MB, and it's formatted for 700 MBs. So, what is sucking up the Disc usage, and how, if at all possible, do I stop it?

Answer:What is wrong with my Disc usage? 100% usage.

Try Using Process Explorer Which provides the functionality of Windows Task Manager along with a rich set of features for collecting information about processes running on the user's system.

Hi.
I was using my laptop a few days ago. I left to go out and came back about an hour later. I notice my CPU usage was running @ 100% & the memory @ 80%.My laptop just stopped. I went into safe mode and that is where I am currently . I have deleted almost everything I don't use(didn't mind).I've even gone to msconfig to check off things i don't use.The initial response was good.CPU usage dropped, but as soon as I used the internet, rebooted or used an Icon everything that I discontinued in msconfig would be checked again.I did this several times.
I ran Iobit Advance system care w/ everything that it possess & ran Spyhunter all in safe mode.It did'nt come up with much.I am currently Googling for anything that match my criteria. There are a few but no good remedies. I don't have a backup disk to use to restore or else I would have tried.I am looking for any good advice. I hope that i dont have to replace the processor or the memory. I mostly use this laptop for games, emails, social media, and searches. Please help. Thanks

Hi,

I have 8GB of RAM (7.90 usable) and I get "Your computer is running low on RAM" messages, up to the point where Windows asks me to close programs or even closes some. The problem is I don't see this reflected in the Task Manager -> Memory column for the running processes. Any idea what's eating up my RAM or why Windows is falsely reporting it's low on RAM?

Screenshot: the reported RAM adds to around 2GB, but the reported 77% would mean 6GB are being used. What's up?!

Answer:Abnormal RAM usage / reported usage

Post a screenshot of Task Manager - Performance tab when the problem occurs.

Adding up the items in the process memory usage column will never equal total usage. It was never intended that they would. There are major users of memory that are not processes, not all of which are shown in Task Manager. And in this case not all processes are shown. You must select "Show processes from all users" to see all processes.

The error message states that the computer was low on memory. The problem usually has nothing to do with RAM at all.

First off, I have been advised to start a new thread in this forum, as a previous thread in a different forum, from this site, regarding this issue was not completely resolved. See link: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/318854/physical-memory-increases-to-98-over-a-few-days/Here's what's happening. Upon booting up, it seems to take a bit too long to even to get to the Vista logo; then, when booted up, the harddrive seems to be running constantly for about an hour or so, yet nothing is loading;lastly, when the computer is on for a few days at a time, the physical memory seems to increase, eventually getting to anywhere from 75% to 90+%, yet I don't have to use the computer to do this - it can just be on and maybe just have Outlook running.Specs:OS: Vista Home Premium SP2 (x64)Processor: Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9300 2.5GhzRAM: 4GbFree Space: 244Gb free/465Gb total

The title says it all. These service named System & System Interrupt kept utilizing 15~30% of my CPU most of the time even on idle. This caused some temp rise on my Surface Pro 3 at 54C~61C (on idle) which used to be 45C~54C (idle) Also Battery seems to drain faster than b4.

Yesterday I tried to do a system restore to fix a Flash Player problem but I did not have restore points going back as far I wanted. I only had 3 Scheduled system restore point going back to March 23rd and 8 restores points done by Revo and various Flash Player install/unsintall restore point created while trying to fix said problem. I thought those 8 restore points might have deleted older scheduled ones but my maximum space hasn't been reached yet and I did not turn off system restore.

From what I read online, I have a crazy amount of space allocated to shadow storage so I was curious as to why I did not have more system points to choose from. Any ideas? Is there anything that can delete restore point besides turn system restore off?
Used 33 GB
Allocated 35GB
Maximum 87GB

Also when I went to select the disk to restore it said
Partition_1(C:) (system) Ready to restore
(Partition_1(C:) The disk cannot be found
I have two disks Partition_1 (C:) and Recovery (D:) which is the factory restore stuff and is locked so I don?t create points for this one.

The Partition_1(C:) (Missing) shows in the available disks in system protection. Should I just uncheck it?

Answer:System Restore Disk Space Usage and System Recovery

Hello pineapplegrunt.

Do you regularly run programs such as CCLeaner and/or Disk Cleanup? It is possible to delete restore points with these tools (and other similar ones).

I believe your problem is that System Restore points are automatically deleted, by default, after 90 days.

I believe there are ways to change this, although from the top of my head I think you have to use a third party application (to do this easily). However, it is not really recommended to keep such long system restore points, if you want an image of your drive going that far back, you probably should look into creating a backup image or something and not relying on system restore.

Can I ask what your flash player problem is, have you been able to fix that?

Hi! So my friend has a PC with Windows 10 (installed from USB-Stick with the WindowsMediaCreationTool). It ran fine for about two weeks, which is when the problem started: The "System and compressed memory" and "System interrupts" processes taking up *a lot* of CPU time even at idle. https://i.imgur.com/cDDZhRC.png
The system is usable for web browsing and such, but everything that needs performance like games is severely hindered by these processes.
It also doesn't allow the processor to ever go into a lower C-State ("power saving mode" / reduced multiplier), it runs at full speed all the time. This is not the first time an issue like this has appeared. It is however the first time it has been so serious or persistent.

Windows Automatic Update informed me that IE8 was now available. I downloaded it using the Windows Auto Update utility. It appeared as if it never downloaded or installed, yet it was no longer appearing in Auto Updates. I downloaded it off of Microsoft's website and when I installed it I chose to install it with a check from the Malicious Software Removal Tool along with the newest updates (even though I already had them). I turned off my computer and later when I turned it back on and logged in, my wallpaper loaded but my desktop did not. Upon pressing Ctrl, Alt, Delete I could see that the system was trying to load my personal settings. It then stopped responding and even the task manager froze. When I was finally able to restart the system using task manager I logged in again. It did the same as before but after a minute it did finally load, though system usage stayed at 100% for a good amount of time. I tried to open IE but this caused my system to freeze so I ended the process using task manager. Now it seems that when I start any application/download/command/etc the system goes into lockdown for a few minutes. It also appears that IE wasn't ever updated to the new version. Below I have included some system info and a HJT log.

Hi all

After a Windows update (not sure if relevant) I find on task manager that system is constantly running at 100%.

I have run Avast and Spybot but suspect there is still a trojan somewhere.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Andrew

Question: System CPU Usage

Hello, I just bought a brand new HP laptop and it runs smoothly all the time but i have one concern... It often happens that the pc starts running super slow and if i have music on it starts to make noise like it can't process it. I thought it was a one time thing but it happens a lot so I tried to find what caused it.

I opened up my system process monitor and put some music on and waited until the pc started collapsing. Then i looked at the graphs and the CPU max Freq spiked to 100% and the CPU usage too, the process causing it was System with the description "NT Kernel & System".

When this happens it usually lasts for about 5-15 seconds, i don't really know what to do since the process isn't something specifc. I hope you guys can help me.

Operating System: Windows 8
Processor: Intel Core i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz

Thanks in advance!

My system is operating extremely slow. The hardware was checked and said to operating correctly. THe system was scanned for viruses and confirmed okay. When I look in the task manger under the processes tab it shows the "system" is operating at ~99%. When I look at my laptop with the same system it shows "system idle process" as operating at ~99%.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Question: System CPU usage

I recently reinstalled windows xp pro and now the "system" proccess is always using all free cpu. It's not "system idle proccess" ... just system.

After installing right off the xp pro disk, all i did was install the updates up to and through SP2, my motherboard drivers, video drivers, winamp and AIM. Other than that, nothing else has been done, yet system is still using all free cpu.

I checked to make sure all drivers were current.

Any ideas on how i can get rid of this problem ... my Computer runs like a horse with 2 broken legs and the other missing.

Thanks

Something doesnt seem quite right with my system at the moment.

When idle even on fresh bootup with superfetch disabled the hdd light is flicking on and off and oso I checked resource monitor.

That shows a steady 15-50kB/sec writes ongoing for the system process.
Likewise in task manager 'system' is using 1-2% cpu usage steadily.

'system' seems a bit vague, is there a way to diagnose this more to narrow it down? or alternatively does anyone have a hunch what it may be.

thanks.

Hello,

I have read couple of threads about this System Interrupts thing and none of them really helped me. I think you can check the specs somewhere, I am not sure since I am new to the forum.

Basically when I start my laptop everything is good for a while when suddenly the CPU usage goes high because of System Interrupts (~25%) and System (~12%). I have tried using LatencyMon to track down the problem and it used to give me alerting messages but now it gives me messages that are all green and nice ("Your system appears to be handling(...)").

Can you guys help me figure out this thing please? Thanks in advance.

NOTE: My drivers ARE up-to-date, but I am not sure my BIOS is. I don't really know how to update the BIOS though, it's a really weird model I have here, that has become obsolete.

*update1* Upon thinking that it might be the wireless driver or the network driver I disabled both, but it didn't drop the CPU usage
*update2*Now I get disconnected from the internet randomly... it may be the wi-fi driver after all

Answer:High CPU usage caused by System Interrupts and System

Hi,
I've been having a problem with my PC running extremely slow for the past several days and it seems to be related to the process named 'System' when viewing Windows Task Manager. The CPU usage looks like this:

System 50
System Idle Process 48-49
taskmgr.exe 01
other processes move between 0 to 1 (iexplorer, sqlservr, services)

Here is a copy of the HJT scan that I took a little earlier today. Any help in figuring out what is dragging my PC down is most appreciated.

Thanks.

I somehow got curious on why System has high memory usage. I saw other people's screenshots and it's as low as another person's screenshot and it has less than 1MB in the usage of memory. Why so? If it may be possible, please explain. Thanks!

Ok i am pretty sure this is the appropriate section to post.

Since the past week my new laptop (on which i never use any entertainment sites and/or programs) have gone crazy over resource usage.

-> The normal win XP loads but now at startup after windows login it becomes slow.
-> Somehow when i am able to open the task manager i am able to see 100% CPU usage.
-> Disabling internet connection reduces the load and runs programs atleast slow.
-> Even with this option the system is not ready for normal usage.
-> Programs can take like 2 weeks to load and i've literally tried this but still same.

-> Now i tried rebooting to safe mode with networking support.
-> it was all fine there but then after some usage internet explorer has issues.
-> when the internet explorer is clicked open it auto-shuts down immediately.
-> and obviously safe mode means alot of things are disabled.
-> i have licensed version of trend micro which is taking forever to start even.

-> i want the following:
-> get my system back to normal use without reinstalling windows.
-> i cant access web pages due to internet browser auto-crash.
so i would like to atleast have a free scanner downloaded from somewhere
if you know any and/or tools that can scan and clean my system for proper
booting.

All and any help is highly appreciated.

Hello,
I'm here to ask for an advice for this new issue occurred with my vaio.
A recently made a system refresh for fixing some other bugs but after this my PC became extremely slow.
Everything seems to go in the right way in refresh, no errors, no blocks, nothing wrong at all.
This issue is related to disk usage that in prompt is always very high, always greater than 90%, normally capped at 100%.
What is using my disk are 2 processes of windows, not 3rd part softwares: system and another processo including lots of windows functions.
I googled this and found a lot of people having same problem and, according to those threads:
1 i tried to disable windows search from services
2 no driver issues, my PC came out with w8 and i never updated them, so drivers are the same I had before the system refresh
3 avg installed now, but also before refresh and never gave problema
4 no bloatware, malware or viruses. After refresh I uninstalled a lot of Sony bleeps but I think this bug was there Aldo before uninstall, I simply thought that slow was related with those software, it wasnt.
Any ideas? Any system scan to post?
Thanks for reading and help,
Sssank

I am creating this tread after gone through the require steps. Also, I had same thread in 'windows XP support' section but could not get much help. Thats why moving here.

The problem is my system is too slow and taking so long to open any application. Process explorer shows 100% CPU usage. But there is nothing like which could cause this.

I'm not getting what should I do. I had old hijackthis log in my previous thread. Right now not able to get new one but I'll post the new one as soon as I would able to get that.

Here is the process explorer screen shot attached. There are three in previous thread in 'windows xp support' section.

HP Pavilion, AMD Phenom 2.2 Quad Core
6GB Ram, Nvidia 9100 on board graphics, etc.

Previously had Vista and had no problems. "Upgraded" to 7 and have had nothing but problems. My CPU usage is at 85% and when I go to the performance monitor is tells me that "system interrupts" are what is using the cpu.

I've updated my drivers to windows 7 ones from HP.

I've tried disabling the audio controller per suggestion from others with a similar problem.

Neither has done anything.

The problems disappears after I reboot and then seems to come back when I open a program that uses the cpu much.

Any ideas at all? I wish I could go back to Vista but I didn't create backup discs..

Thanks

Hello,

First, this is not spyware. I have run every cleaner known to man, and followed advise on the hijackthis forum when i thought this was a spyware problem. MY COMPUTER IS CLEAN.

What is happening is, looking at the task manager the system idle process will be at 98-99%, which means there should only be 1-2% left at idle for other processes, but the CPU usage jumps and varies from 20-40%, while the system idle process is at 99%. Weird.

I ran memtest86, and it is not a memory problem. I am wondering if i have a conflict with my IRQ's? Could this be eating up my processor in the background? Here are my conflicts:

Answer:System idle 99% with 20-40 CPU Usage

I recently had this very same problem. Having a very humble AMD Athlon 1700xp, 256Mb ram system meant that it was very very restricting.

I found the problem to be McAfee's security suite. Likewise Norton Internet Security, in my experience, is extremely system intensive. After removing McAfee everything was back to normal.

Check the processes list in Task Manager. This should also give you an idea about what's causing the problems.

What I mean by that is when you go to the Task Manager normally CPU usage starts at 100% for a second then goes to what it should be. But my problem is whenever I do certain things these days my system starts to go really slow, such as after I play an intensive game or even when I leave a few files downloading over night. Apps take a while to load for example when I return to the computer. I can tell when the computer is going to act like this by simply going to the Task Manager and seeing if the CPU usage starts at 100% or not. Quite often it starts at 89% or another lower number, and that means things are slow for a while - I think it is the HDD been slow.

I don't know if I've explained the situation well enough, but I think it is a problem which all computer users have to put up with, as the same things happen to my brother's computer. What is it exactly?

Is there anyway to stop the number of times this happens, I think it is to do with the HDD been worked to hard or something, but I don't know.

Answer:When CPU usage isn't 100%, system is slow

how good is your cooling? that's something to check into. dust your comp and check temps (just feel it, you don't need an actual thermometer). if your stuff is getting too hot, i'd look into some cooling solutions.

also, it seems dumb, but dust severely slows your comp more than you'd think. i'm guessing it has to do with it holding in heat, but i'm not sure.

I dont know what causes it.. As soon as I boot up it goes to 100% usage. I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL.. and sort by CPU and it shows an image name of System and it fluctuates from 79 to 97. I backed up all my info and I am trying to reinstall but I dont know how.. it is a dell dimension 2400.. I dont have a boot disk for it and I took it in to get restored to a computer store but when they plugged in the system the CPU Usage was normal.. I tried plugging in items one by one and when I did that the usage stayed normal.. and then 15 minutes of it up and running it went back to 100% CPU Usage.. any ideas?? and how can I restore it to factory settings?

I'm looking for software that will log and monitor CPU usage by service/process. My laptop gets periodic system hangs that last 4-5 seconds that are really starting to annoy me. I've done everything that I could find on Google: chkdsk + defragment, sfc /scannow, plenty of physical RAM, powerful enough processor for what I do, ensured all drivers are up-to-date...etc.

When my system hangs, there is a spike in CPU usage (noticed via task manager). I am trying to pinpoint which process or service is causing these hangs as I'm pretty sure that the hardware is fine.

By system hang, I mean that the screen, keyboard, and mouse freeze but sound is continuous (eg, while streaming music, sound is not interrupted during a hang). I am running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit. Thanks in advance for the help!

I've installed Avast! Av. I was using AVG for years but 2013 version is a bit intrusive for me.

I checked my processes and Avast! is using 3072k memory. Is that acceptable? Is that considered a "light footprint"
Thanks in advance.

hello,
system PID 4 accidently increse cpu usage to %90+
i used procexp.exe to identify the details:
TID 40
cpu 96.22%
cswitch delta 1964 [changed many times]
start address: ntoskrnl.exe!KeAcquirelnStackQueuedSpinLockAtDpcLevel+0c1e0

when i killed process tree it made a BSOD. minidump attached

system: asus eee pc 1215T | windows seven x64 service pack 1

can it related to wireless driver? i installed non-original wireless driver

thanks

Answer:Cpu usage 100% by system pid 4 - ntoskrnl.exe

What .exe are you trying to kill it's process? Killing process can lead to BSOD and corrupt Windows files.

Hello, I have a HP 6910tx which was purchased 2 years back. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate RC7600 on it at the moment. Few days back, I had a system crash and the Tech guys at HP said my laptop had multiple problems, and I eventually had my hard disk and Nvidia Graphics Card replaced. I am still facing nagging issues with my laptop for which I have no answers to.

I have done a clean install of Win 7 and my laptop at the moment doesn't have any software or application that is capable of sucking the memory out. But I still see 100% CPU usage sometimes even though the system is practically idle. This is resulting in overheating of my laptop which is very worrying. My guess is that it may be because of assembling the laptop incorrectly which is causing the problem, but it's just an educated guess at the most. I am really concerned about the health of my laptop as it was running in top notch condition just a few weeks back. I am attaching the system specs with a HijackThis log taken a while back. Can anybody please help me out and advice before it's too late. I shall be much obliged.

Regards,
Viv

Answer:System heating + 100% CPU Usage

Then perhaps it is some other hardware that needs replacement as well. Could there be any BIOS or other setting that reduces the maximum use of your CPU? You could very well only be using a percentage of what you have installed if that were the case. Your power supply is sufficient? Try enabling high performance in the power options of your computer, cause you may be power saving o.0.
