Windows 7 sticker missing from T410

Question: Windows 7 sticker missing from T410

Hi,Just received my T410. So far everything is super. Except that there is no windows "sticker" on the latptop. I had one on my T42 and that also meant that the XP on that machine is legal. But this T410 has no sticker .Is it ok? Does yours have sticker on it? If not then how do you know what's the windows key when reinstalling it?

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 sticker missing from T410

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hiwe just got 13 Lenovo TP SL510 delivered by Inmac Store. All of them are equipped with WIN7 Pro, but none of them carries a WIN7 Lic Sticker on the bottom or anywhere.A call to SAV from Inmac ended up in big arguments and the referal to contact Lenovo Support (which is even worse) Can anybody tell me how am I supposed to get a SYSPREP done with Windows 7 preinstalled, not having the propper lic key available when the image is installed on the other 12 Notebooks and supposed to be reactevated? Where can I get the reg Key for activating the new installation if it is not delivered with the Product? Thanks in advance.Peter

Hello, I have a new T430 laptop. It is Windows 8 with a Windows 7 downgrade. I did a fresh install with a retail disc of Windows 7. There is no Windows sticker on the laptop (including under the battery).  I have called and spoke with 4 different people at Lenovo who point the finger at Microsoft and Microsoft points the finger at Lenovo. I just want the Windows 7 key I bought so I can activate Windows. How can I get the key?

Answer:Windows sticker missing

Hi snipazer123, welcome to the forum,

we have a few threads in the different boards on this same subject, I've linked to a couple below which may contain some good information for you. Your options seem to be to read the license key out of the originally preinstalled Win 7 and use that to activate by phone or, if it's too late, use any Win 7 key and then activate it by phone.

I'm trying to do a clean install of Win 7. First off, it's not under the battery.  I checked and only my SN is there. Next, I used a key finder and it only shows me the Lenovo OEM key, which is worthless.  I then called tech support and they told me that the product key that would have been on the stick is just the OEM key anyway.  I'm pretty sure that's not true since each system comes with a real license.  Any ideas on how I can get my product key or am I just SOL?  Edit:  Well, it looks like it came with Win 8 since it has the Win 8 sticker and the discs for Win 8, but i don't know why Lenovo put a Win 7 image on there with all their junk.  This means I have to reinstall Win 8, then downgrade it to Win 7.  Fun times.

Answer:E535 Missing Windows 7 Product Key sticker

If you purchased it with Win 8 and downgrade rights to Win 7 then Lenovo is doing exactly what Microsoft wanted them to do. Unless you backed up your Win 7 installation you must install Windows 8 and then install Windows 7 over it. You may need a license key to force Windows 7 to install. You can use any key, including one that is currently in use by another machine. You may then need to phone in for a one-time activation code.

Next time, back up / create recovery disks for your Win 7 install so you don't have to go through the process.

Answer:T410 bluetooth driver missing after upgrading to Windows 10

Dear Waddie,

Welcome in lenovo community,

I think that you are facing a compatibility  issue,

Cause lenovo did not test or released all the compatible windows 10 drivers for the T410 yet.

But you can try to right click the BT driver from the device manager and choose Update Driver Software.

Hi, We are configuring a T410 2518-C3U with our own XP image. We have two unknown devices left. One is a PCI device VEN_1180 DEV_E230. Google shows this is a Ricoh card reader. The two Ricoh card reader drivers on the website seem to be for USB devices and as a result don't apply. Technical support was only able to point to article MIGR_72586, but that does not list T410 devices. The second one is a USB device: usb\vid_147e&PID_2016That seems to be the fingerprint co-processor. We installed the one driver that is shown in the T410 list as being related to the security suite. Any tips welcome! TxBas

Answer:Missing sticker on the bottom of my Edge 535

Did you look under the battery?  Is it the Win7 or Win8 version?  My Win7 version has the sticker under the battery, but I thought I read that the Win8 version may have no sticker at all (Microsoft did change the licensing procedures.)

I ordered an Ideapad Y500 directly from Lenovo.  Everything is good so far, just that there's no sticker at all on the bottom telling me my serial number.  Is this to be expected?  How do I find out my serial number?  Am I missing other important info, like model number, machine type, Windows license? Second question -- the Y500 came with a 120w AC adapater.  If I want to purchase a second AC adapter, which AC adapters work with the Y500 (single graphics card, i.e. not SLI)?  Called Lenovo and got someone who knew nothing. TIA

A friend of mine bought this from B&H Photo and I was doing the installation, I noticed before I opened the shrink wrap the sticker was missing from the edge where it opens, it just has the "stub". I used one of these a long time ago so I can't remember for sure but it seems like it should definitely be on there?

Hi everyone I've recently bought new T410 type 2537-A11 with WIN7 PRO sticker beneath a battery. Surprisingly, when I first launch OS, it appeared WIn7, but Home Edition. Moreover, I can't find recovery partition on hard drive!! I have no recovery discs. Probably, the seller did a "switch" OS and deleted recovery partition. Of course, the seller made no response after I described the problem. What can I do with it? Do I have to live without recovery partition or call Lenovo Poland for help (can they manage recovery discs or sth else)? Thank you for any help

Answer:T410 Missing Driver for WLAN

Hello and welcome,

Based on your MT-M, these are the laptop specs:

i5-520M(2.4GHz), 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN option, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro

Using just that description, this is the WLAN driver:  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t41...

It would be good to verify the actual model of your wifi card.  Go to Device Manager, right click on the WLAN adapter and select properties.  If there isn't a clear model description in the General tab, go to Details and grab the hardware IDs.  Google or post them here and that should confirm the card model.

Hello all! I am new to having a thinkpad and I know that my system has a the intigrated graphics and the discrete nvidia nvs 3100m Optimus card.  Here is the issue though.  I have been trying to run some programs that are more video oriented (gaming).  I discovered that my system is only reading the intigrated graphics and doesn't even acknowledge that the nvidia card is there.   I have updated to the latest drivers and checked the Bios to make sure things are there.  Sadly they are not.  I looked at the bios, followed the directions I found on the forum to set that to card to on only to find that the the only card it recognizes is the intigrated graphics.  So the question is, how do I get the bios and the computer in general to recognize the nvidia card on my T410 (2522)?

Hello ! I'm using a T410(2537-9UG ; BIOS 1.37; ECP:1.14) with Optimus in a Mindock Plus 3 and a external Display, witch is with a displayport cable connected. When the default setting in the BIOS (Config->Display->Nvidia Optimus) is selected, I got no bootscreen on the ext. Display. This is bad, because I'm using a power-on password at the machine startup. The ext. Display shows a screen not before the W7 logon screen is loaded. When I select the discrete Grafik in the BIOS I can select other Boot Display Devices like Displayports 1 or 2 from the dockingstation. Then I get the bootscreen. But this is very circular, because when I want to use the machine mobile I've to change these settings first, to be able to use Optimus. When I select the integrated Grafikchip in the BIOS I get only a bootscreen and a picture on the ext. Display, when I connect the Displayportcable directly to the T410.Does anybody have a idea to get a Bootscreen with Optimus ??GreetingsJürgen

Is the partition missing in both Windows Exlporer and Disk Management?

Is this machine new to you, or did someone else own it previously?  There's an option when burning recovery media to have the recovery partition deleted and added to C:  Perhaps someone already did this?  Or perhaps this was a clean install from  Microsoft medai?

If the partition is still actually there, you may be able to burn recovery media via Rescue and Recovey.

Failing that, you can order media from Lenovo support.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/diagnose-and-fix/detail.page?submit=true&componentID=1343112653903&D... Lenovo has known about the T410 battery firmware issues for some time.  But they still don't recognize my 9-cell battery as being affected.  9-cell Battery FRU 42T4799 (glaringly missing from the above URL) Because that FRU isn't listed, the firmware won't install.  : ( The battery has been affected from day 1.  The laptop suddenly drops from ~60% battery to 4% battery, without warning.  The worst part is, I know there is plenty more charge left.  The 9-cell battery has never lasted much over an hour, even when brand new, due to this bug.  This has happened since day 1.  The laptop is under warranty, but the battery no longer is. I'm a longtime Thinkpad user.  I've sold many, many Thinkpads to clients (probably around 100).  So yes, I've reset the power gauge, fully cycled the battery, even reinstalled the OS clean with latest Lenovo drivers & power software, etc.  I've been living with this too long, which is partly my own fault.  I kept thinking if I waited long enough they'd update the affected FRUs to cover my unit. Any advice?  I don't see how/where I can get to Lenovo engineering to report this bug.

Answer:T410 battery issue that Lenovo engineering keeps missing.

Is it just that particular battery or all batteries with that FRU ???

Hey, I'm a certified PC technician, but this one has me baffled. I have a friend who got a new PC, which is an HP Pavilion p7-1423w desktop with Windows 8. He wiped it (yes including the recovery partition) so he could put Windows 7 on it without checking with me first. Well that didn't go well because he kept getting BSODs (coming from the integrated graphics adapter I believe because they only occurred after we installed the graphics adapter drivers via Windows Update and again from Intel's website) and no matter what we did with it we could not get them to stop. Well he discovered that the computer he has does not support Windows 7 at all and that only Windows 8 will work on it and so he just decided to go back to that. Someone told him that the product key is probably built into the BIOS because there is no COA sticker on the unit anywhere. Well I bought a copy of Windows 8 Pro for my computer a few months back and so I sent him my ISO that I have for him to burn and use to install Windows 8, but it's asking him for a product key and so neither of us know where to get the key from. So, here are my questions:1) Is there a way we can get the product key from the BIOS? He lives out of state from me so I don't have physical access to the computer or I'd poke around in there and see.2) If we can't get the product key from the BIOS, how else could we get it, or does he have to buy one?3) I saw on HP's website that you can order recovery disks for his PC. Would this be a possible... Read more

Answer:Install Windows 8 without COA sticker

I don't think that the key is in the BIOS. The first thing I would do is take the computer back, if it's under warranty. Just say I don't know what happened. Demand a new PC.Windows 7 probably didn't work because of the UEFI in the BIOS but there probably downgrade rights, anyway. Disabling UEFI might work. You would have to pay for recovery CDs. They might generate a key based on recognition of the hardware. How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

Answer:How to get new Windows Code sticker?

Maybe it sounds stupid now but this sticker is useless. It is just evidence that you got valid product key with your recovery image. I write recovery image because this product key belongs OS version that you got with your notebook.
Do you have original recovery installation disc? If yes you don't need the key because recovery image can be installed 1000 times and every time preinstalled version will be activated properly.

With other words nobody will send you the key that you got on the sticker. The product key is implemented in original recovery image and cannot be used in case that you want to activate any other Microsoft OS version.

Hey guys.
First of all I would like to say hi to everyone on these forums. I am brand new here, though been following some discussions, checking out software etc, but never posted on here. So please if my question looks/sounds stupid just try to take it easy on me.
So, im one of those guys who everyone turns to whenever they have any kind of PC issues. And most of the time its after the fact when their PC is totally screwed up. Because I am no PC guru I tend to take the easiest route for me which is reformatting the whole thing and installing a fresh copy of windows (XP or 7). But because I use same copy of windows (XP home edition purchased at retail store) I always have to call in and activate it by phone and lie about how many computers this copy of XP is on. I don?t fix PC?s for profit so no worries there, kinda family/friends deal.
So my question is, how can I utilize the code from Windows Authenticity Sticker which is usually attached to the computer I fix???????? And use that code when I install fresh copy of windows???
Thanks in advance,
RJ

If the PC in question is a OEM one like DELL, HP etc then you need the OEM version of Windows that those makers supply, not as easy as you'd think these days as they dont always supply them in Disk, but they have a Restore Partition to re-install the Factory build from.

But if you are to install from disk then you will need the OEM version from that maker, retail versions dont accept OEM keys.

Would it be eligible for the Windows 8 Pro 39,90 upgrade? Can I do a clean install and just type in my old XP license key somewhere along the way? Been looking around the webs but can't find any info on that yet.

Answer:Got an old PC with a legitimate Windows XP license sticker on it

Gonna answer this one myself, yes, it did work! I upgraded a 10 year old xp sticker to Win8 Pro for 29,90.:D

I have this Lenovo Y560 laptop which cam pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium Build 7600. Had been using this laptop for three years now. I made the recovery disks using its One Key Recovery software a long time back. But these disks are unusable right now A month back I started having frequent BSODs (Ox116?)
and sudden blackout after windows log-in . But after restarting for 3-4 times, my laptop used to work fine for a day or two and suddenly the problems started again. So I formatted my hard-drive with gparted leaving aside the LENOVO_PART hidden partition containing back-ups. But I thought of doing a clean reinstall. So I followed the a guide for oem installlation in the forum and used the key which I got from using Magic JellyBean Keyfinder since the COA sticker has almost faded dude to my rough usage, I never paid attention to thhis sticker . But when I called Microsoft to activate, they said that key is blacklisted ( I was like WTF?) The guy almost became rude and told me you are using a pirated copy and the key is available online. I googled the key and HELL! They were true, apparently there were many other of those "OEM KEYS FOR IBM-LENOVO". So I had no other choice but to boot to the recovery partition and use the factory default image, but its not working anymore throwing up errors since I had changed the original partition sizes. Will the Microsoft guys give me a another product key for this installation or I have to resort to paying for recovery d... Read more

I was looking at the bottom of my T400 today, and I noticed that both the Windows Vista sticker that the machine came with and the Windows 7 sticker that contains the license keys are unreadable. It appears that the license keys have faded the same way that something printed on thermal paper (like an old school fax machine or a cash register receipt) fade over time or when exposed to heat. Obviously I don't care about the Vista sticker as I upgraded for free to Windows 7. However, if something were ever to happen to the machine and I needed the license key (such as a reinstall) I'd like to know how to go about getting one.  I noticed on the T420 that the sticker is located in the battery compartment, and this sticker shows no signs of fading.

Answer:Windows license key from sticker are unreadable

To find your Windows software key, go to a reputable site such as cnet.com and download one of the *free* keyfinder programs that will locate and display the product keys for your Windows OS, Office, and many popular programs.  The keys it finds can be copied to an HTML or text file for future reference. Please note that the providers of these freeware programs will often make a pitch for their paid version with more features and the ability to find more product keys.  You do not need to buy any paid version, as all of the free ones will find Windows keys.

hello to all,I have purchased a second-handed X220 on eBay and it was delivered with Windows 7 sticker missing under the battery (the seller doesn't know anything about it). Is there any way to "recover' the Windows 7 activation key by sending my ThinkPad serial number to Lenovo or someone else? As I understand this particular model was originally sold with Windows 7 Professional preinstalled

Answer:Windows 7 license sticker lost

No, once the physical CoA is gone, it's gone forever. There is no way to recover the Win 7 key that was on it.Cheers,Bill

I purchased a thinkpad x61 on eBay. There was a product key sticker on its underside but there was also another product key in a CD sleeve. The thinkpad has W7 on it so I'm guessing the sticker in the CD sleeve is for W7 and the one on the underside is for an older version of Windows (probably XP).I checked the validity of both keys and only the W7 was working. I took the XP sticker off the underside of the laptop. I don't suppose it's possible to get a replacement product key sticker for the W7 one to stick on the thinkpad (the one in the CD sleeve has seen better days)?Perhaps I have waaaaaay too much time on my hands but I'm just curious. I'm thinking a begging email to Lenovo might be the solution?

I have lost my windows key, which was written at the back of my laptop.
Actually it is not visible now as the maptop is more than a year old now.

Is there anyway I could refind it?

Answer:Re: I've lost windows key from Microsoft sticker

As far as I know you cannot ?refind it?. What do you want to do with this product key?
You cannot use it anyway.

This key belongs to preinstalled OS that you got with your notebook and cannot be used for any other OS installation.

The product key on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop has become unreadable, I also don't have the key used on any current installation of windows, and to my knowledge the key is not stored in bios or anything like this. I'd given up on it as the key was for a foreign language version of windows that I didn't want anyway but now I want to use it to install windows 10.

I've taken a macro photo of it and enhanced it as much as I could and have a good idea for most of the code, although the last 10 digits are pretty worn out so I am not sure. The bar code above it also seems in usable condition, although I don't know if it is possible to get the code back from this.

Does any anyone have any suggestions? Does microsoft have any page where I could "try" possibilities of the key to see if I could guess it right from what is left of the sticker?

Also does anyone have any idea what on earth the 10th to last character is on the sticker? This is the one I really don't have a clue what it is.

Answer:Damaged windows 7 product key sticker. What can I do?

Download Produkey. The key on the sticker would not work anyway. Microsoft quit using the COA sticker for activation a long time ago. The key on an OEM computer is not the same as what is shown on the sticker. The key that Produkey finds works with the SLIC table in BIOS to automatically activate the computer when using the OEM recovery disks.

I would also backup your activation files with Advance Token Manager which will also give you the key.

So I got a laptop around a year ago or so, maybe a bit longer, and replaced Windows 7 with Ubuntu fairly quickly. Well now the lack of video game support for Ubuntu has made me regret it, so I plan on reinstalling Windows 7 and simply giving it a tiny partition of the HDD. My question is how to use the product key I found on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop. I don't have any sort of recovery CD or anything for Windows 7 that I could use, and obviously every trace of it has been wiped from the drive. I considered grabbing one of the cracked versions off of a torrent site and using my recovery key, as it would still be fully legal then seeing as I merely need the install, but I figured it would be better to ask around here and see if there were a way to get a clean install of it simply less the product key. I really haven't found any way to get an install disc unless I buy a new copy outright.

Answer:Reinstalling Windows 7 with product key sticker

hi Neoncamouflage, and welcome to sevenforums,

you can download a legitimate iso from here.

as a side point, you say you're interested in playing games, and are going to give win 7 a 'tiny portion of the HDD'.

be aware that many modern video games contain a lot of multimedia data, and install sizes of 10 gigs or more per game are not uncommon.

Hi, we own a few Thinkpad T520 / W520 laptops that came with an OEM Windows 7 Professional. During the years they were reinstalled with the restore partition several times, without the need to apply the Product ID marked on the sticker on the chassis. Now, all the stickers have faded / lost, and we need to upgrade those laptops to Windows 10. The Product ID that we can get from the PCs are all the same ID, so, the question is: what will happen when upgrading (or doing a clean install) to Windows 10? Will we be asked for a Product ID that we no longer have? Thanks and regards.

Answer:Install Windows 10 on Thinkpad T520 and similar without Windows 7 Product ID sticker

The T520/W520's are not listed on Lenovo's list of systems compatable with Windows 10, although some have reported doing so with some success.   See the link below for more info. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T520-not-supported-for-Windows-10-upgrad... Regarding the Product ID, I have used a free program called KeyFinder to successfully obtain the original Product ID from the registry in the past with good success.  A couple of AV programs claim it to be malware, but I have used it many times with no problems or malware, so I think that their heuristic programs may just see its scanning of the registry as a threat. Another option is to request a new key from MS by following the instructin on this link.  http://pcsupport.about.com/od/osproductkeys/ht/windows-product-key-replacement.htm  Good Luck

Hello,

I cannot locate a windows 8 sticker with the activation key on the box on my new system.
I want to install new win8 pro from the DVD on a new SSD and would prefer to have a single partition without any restore images etc. ( 256 GB SSD) but I cannot find the sticker with the activation key on the box.

I noticed that my Win8 pro box also does not have a sticker but a keycard .
Microsoft has changed something .

What is the solution ?

Hi ghatikar,
Windows 8 operating system does not go with product key as it is embedded in the BIOS. In case you are installing the operating system using the DVDs sent by Dell with the system, you will not be prompted to enter the product key.
In case you have purchased Windows 8 from a retailer, then the product key will be provided with the retail pack

Good morning,

I have a Toshiba laptop, *the hard drive is broken* and when I bought did not include recovery disk. Nobody told me that I had to make a copy on disk when the laptop still worked.

Now I have a new hard drive but does not lead the recovery partition and NO STICKER LICENSE FOR WINDOWS 8!!!!

*What's the solution that gives Toshiba for these cases?* because I'm not willing to pay more than 30 ? for a CD that should come into the computer, and I will not pay a new license of Windows 8, because when I bought the computer and I paid!

Answer:Broken hard drive and no Windows 8 sticker

> Nobody told me that I had to make a copy on disk when the laptop still worked.
Please dont be mad on me but this is no excuse for your problem. Every notebook model is delivered with ?User's manuals? document. It is also saved on your notebook as PDF file.
There is clearly described what recovery image is and how you can back-up it and create recovery media.
I dont know where you have bought your notebook but if you have bought it in some electronic store i think you should talk with your local dealer and tell him that you are not satisfied with their expert advice.

You are right about licence. With your notebook you have bought OS and valid licence but product key at the sticker cannot be used for OS activation if you use Microsoft installation disc. This product key belongs to original recovery image that you got with your notebook.

On one side i can understand you but you must also understand that, generaly speaking, it is your fault. For such cases toshiba offers simply solution and you can get original recovery image for your notebook model. It costs 30Euro but for this money you will get OS, all necessary drivers, tools and utilities that must not be configured. After maybe two hours you will have perfectly installed OS with all necessary drivers.

How much costs Microsoft version if you dont want to order Toshiba recovery image?

My laptop is a Lenovo Z570 which is great and all that however its full of bloatware and other rubbish that the manufacturer has installed for me, even when I do a complete restore its very slow and sluggish bearing in mind how powerful it is (quad core i7, 8GB DDR3 ram etc) so I want to know if its possible to wipe the hard drive and install a clean version of windows 7 home premium 64 downloaded from Microsoft trials and activate etc using the numbers off my COA sticker?

is this possible and I presume it will be alot quicker that this tweaked setup from Lenovo?

I tried asking Microsoft for help but didn't manage to get any. How would I go about finding out what my product key ought to be?

The model is a Packard Bell IMEDIA D3318 UK. Is the product ID relevant?

if your version of windows is OEM then it is tied to the old hardware i.e motherboard legally you are not allowed to reinstall that version of windows on a new motherboard. You must buy another copy.

Hello Toshiba Help Center

unreadable ...

Is there any way to recover it by , my laptop serial no ,or ......

Answer:Sticker with the Windows product key under the laptop is unreadable

Hello Jeff

At first i must say that this is not toshiba help center but user-to-user forum created by Toshiba, so if you expect answer from Toshiba people here you are on the wrong place.
Anyway on this forum you can pick up very useful information and many people here can help you with your problems.

Back to described issue.
Unfortunately you dont understand how it works with product key and Windows installation so i will try to help you with this.
Every toshiba notebook is offered with preinstalled OS (recovery image) and product key at the bottom of your notebook belongs to this version. With other words: when you buy new notebook you will pay for hardware, operating system and one licence for this preinstalled OS. Product key at the bottom is not a kind of ?universal product key? and cannot be used for activation of any other Windows version.

You can use delivered Toshiba recovery disc that contains recovery mage numerous times and every time you will have activated operating system. When you use Microsoft disc for OS installation you must have valid product key that belongs to this certain version.

In your case product key belongs to Vista and you cannot use it for Win7 activation. This product key is actualy ..... useless.

If you have more questions you are welcome.

My computer died so we have reinstalled Windows only problem is though is the activation code that
comes with the computer has faded off and the stickers all kinda weird.

Microsoft have told me to ask toshiba if they can track which activation code was for my computer (I think it registered the computer serial info when I first got it). I can't find a way to ask Toshiba unfortunately.

Help? I can't afford to buy it again. I already paid as part of the computer cost.

Answer:Re: I need to activate Windows but my code sticker has faded

Hi

> I can't afford to buy it again. I already paid as part of the computer cost.
You are right about that. Toshiba offers notebook with preinstalled operating system and when you buy notebook you pay for hardware, preinstalled software and valid licence for this preinstalled OS.
Please note this product key belongs to preinstalled OS version and it is not some kind of ?universal? key that you can use for activation if you use own OS version.

When you buy new notebook recovery image is saved on HDD as backup. This allows notebook owner to reinstall original recovery image ans start to use notebook with ?factory settings? again.
In case that HDD is defective or owner hat installed own OS version this recovery image will not be usable anymore.

To avoid this situation Toshiba has preinstalled small ?Toshiba recovery media creator? to allow notebook owner to create recovery media as DVD or USB and make recovery image back-up.
This recovery media is bootable device and recovery image can be installed without any problem.

If you check user?s manuals document that you got with your notebook you will see that the whole theme is described there. With other words every notebook owner is informed about all this.
Due to all these reasons recovery media creation is very important.

Back to your problem: after reading your posting I don't know what is your problem exactly and I don't know if HDD is defective but I presume you didn?t create this recovery media, ri... Read more

So just like 1000s of others I imagine, Windows 10 violated my C655. I believe it successfully wiped out any trace of Windows 7 for recovery. I even tried a disk I made with the same laptop a year or so ago. It tells me that it doesn't match the hardware. Nice. Tried the "0" at boot to refresh but I get an error code. Command Prompt pimp trying sfcconfig and diskpart. Nada. Zip. Last resort is to erase the hard disk, which may fail also. Will that be an even bigger pile of "ish" to deal with? Opening up a can of worms quite possibly? Will I be able to use my Win7 key located at the Windows sticker on the bottom of this brick? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

A friend of mine told me that their Windows 8 laptop crashed and they didnt create the recovery set for it. They were going to borrow another friends Windows 8 disc to install clean and use the key that their system would normally have on it like all prior versions of Windows had and surprise, no alpha numeric key, just a Windows Logo sticker on the bottom of the laptop. They haven't attempted the install of Windows 8 clean yet as for without a key, how would you successfully install it. He asked me if the key was hidden in the BIOS somehow similar to how some of the older HP /Compaq computers use to have a piece of data in the BIOS that a recovery set verified before allowing to use the recovery set on that system, so that you couldnt use a HP/Compaq recovery set on a Dell that also had a similar motherboard and specs etc. This was beyond my knowledge of Windows 8. But I would really like to know if anyone else has seen a computer with the square Windows 8 sticker, but no product key either on a label or in firmware/bios? <- that's just bolded because that is the main question I have :-)

I purchased a manufacturer refurbished ASUS X750JA laptop on ebay. It has the official Windows 8 little square sticker on the back, which to me indicates it should have a Windows 8 product key stored in UEFI firmware. It came with 2x 1TB hard drives. I didn't want to mess with Windows 8 or 8.1 at all, so I booted the laptop and it came up with the OOBE Windows 8.1 screen as expected. I entered audit mode and exported the drivers to a USB flash drive, then shut it down.

I pulled out the primary HDD and installed a completely blank SSD and clean installed Windows 10 Home. Created a local user account, and Windows 10 was not activated! *raise one eyebrow here* Ran showkey plus and no product key in UEFI/bios. So I connected the HDD to a USB adapter (which is why I did not bother making a back up image first - because I have lots of other means of making a backup image from the removed HDD). Looked at the software registry hive with showkey plus and it showed an OEM Windows 8 Home product key. Changed the Windows 10 product key and entered the Windows 8 product key and it activated just like it should.

That model comes with Home Premium, not Ultimate.

If you have Ultimate on it now, how was it activated? If it's a legal retail copy, you can audit the Product Key off the HD with Belarc Advisor - CNET Download.com.

If not then your options are to contact Toshiba tech support to order the model's Recovery disks which will self-activate, buy a copy of Win7 to install upon it, or install a free Win8 Preview copy or Linux distro.

I lost sticker with license number Windows XP to Toshiba NB100. I have an invoice.
How can I retrieve licence number?

Authorized service refused to support this topic.

Answer:No sticker with license number Windows XP to Toshiba NB100

Hi

You cannot retrieve the licence number.
First of all the sticker on the bottom of the unit was an OEM serial key. Such key cannot be used and would not work in connection with fresh installed Win XP system.

The point is that Toshiba image which was preinstalled on this notebook was already activated and this means that such key was useless.

I assume you did not create a Toshiba Recovery disk (or flash USB stick) in the past? Right?
Such disks would reinstall the Toshiba image containing activated Win XP system.

Well, usually it?s possible to order such disk [here|http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx] but I think this would not be possible anymore because of the notebook age.

Solution: you would need to purchase the Win XP with valid serial key.

Hello experts,

I tried automatic updating of my ie today, but it said that it was a pirate version. I just bought the computer and on the underneath of the computer is an original Windows XP Pro sticker. I am thinking the person I bought it from just used some dodgy version of XP and used his own verification number. Is there any way (withiout losing all my programs or having to re-install) that I can change the current version of XP with the number of my original number to verify my IE program.

If not, what are the implications for me. Must I buy another windows XP programme?

Thanks Marcus

Answer:Updates says pirate IE BUT have original WIndows XP sticker on computer bottom

You can perform a repair install and use the legal key at the prompt

I have a dell 1545 laptop my sister gave me because the drive died, I can't get anything off it even with a linux disc it's just locked up, there is no windows sticker on the bottom of the unit, and she had not made recovery discs UGH

I have plenty of sata drives around but without their product key for windows is there anyway thru the service id tag or anything to get windows back onto this machine without buying another copy of it?

I know there are programs i could use to recover the product key via the old drive but i can't even get the drive to boot up externally or via a linux recovery type cd.

It's not a super old laptop just that drive died, I was going to replace the drive load windows on it and have the kids use it for simple open office reports and to goof on facebook and whatnot with it.

I know I could just load linux on it, but i'd like to get them back into windows, but with a dead drive do I have any options?

Answer:Hard drive Failed 1545 Laptop, no windows sticker, any solution?

Any chance Win 10 had been installed on that system?

Hi NickSteel,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Uninstall the current Wifi driver from the system and do not update the drivers from Windows update, use only ThinkVantage system update utility to update the latest drivers for your system hardware.

Hope this helps!

Just bought t420s and on switching it on it automatically installed windows 7 for me. Everything went fine. Then I though what if I want to reinstall Windows myself from scratch? I looked for Windows product code on th ebottom of the laptop and could not find it. Any ideas why is it so? I got used to those Windows product code stickers on the bottom of the laptop. But t420s doesn't have it. How can I identify product code of my copy of windows then? Any ideas?

i need some help here. i have buy one laptop and have windows 8 pro installed.but the sticker under laptop show it was windows 8 not the pro one. when i buy this laptop the seller ask me either i want windows 8 pro or single language one. so, i tell him i want the pro one. now i need help to identify that windows installed was original or pirated? because i cannot update to windows 8.1 and also cannot factory reset this laptop. if i was in the wrong section please tell me. i'm new here

Answer:windows 8 pro installed but sticker windows 8 only

The seller may not have created a restore partition - so to restore you system you must insert the windows 8 Pro setup media..
To update to windows 8.1 through the windows store - there are certain windows 8 updates that have to be installed first to allow the win8.1 upgrade..

Or you could download and create windows 8.1 Pro setup media > Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help
Then run the setup.exe from within windows 8 to upgrade to 8.1

I have a Lenovo T410 Laptop, Windows 7 Professional - x64 that is still under warranty.  In the last few days I keep getting
this dialog box that says "This computer is not running genuine Windows".  When I click the "resolve online now" link it
wants me to install software.  when I run the software, it then prompts me to pay for a genuine copy.

The computer was purchased directly from Lenovo, so I am confident that it is running a legitimate copy of Windows.

I called Microsoft, and they had me run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool which showed a corrupt registry
component. Microsoft stated they need the installation CD key to fix this issue and to verify and authenticate the Windows
license.  There was no Windows 7 sticker with the license key anywhere on the computer as far as I can see.  I have searched through the material supplied with the computer, however no windows 7 license or key was provided.

I used a keyfinder tool, but it says the registry entry is corrupt.

Where do I find the key?

Hi,I have a Thinkpad T410 that was delivered with Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. But for using the notebook with 8 GB RAM I need to have 64-bit version. On the COA under the battery it says Windows 7 Pro OA but nothing about 32-bit or 64-bit. Does it mean that I can use a 64-bit installation?

Answer:32 bit or 64 bit Windows on T410

Yes, under Microsoft's licensing, you can use the same Windows 7 Product ID to install either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7 on your system, but you cannot upgrade from 32 to 64-bit, so it will have to be a fresh installation. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/is-a-windows-7-license-k... Cheers,

I have a T410,   ID  2522-22U. I upgraded to windows 10 with seeming success. My display adapter is Intel HD Graphics and works well. My question is: the Windows 10 that installed is 32-bit but I have an x64 based processor. The 32-bit OS will not utilize 8GB RAM but the T410 will take it. I am wondering what drivers might be affected by upgrading to 64-bit.
Reading this article, "How to upgrade from a 32-bit to 64-bit version of Windows 10" (https://www.windowscentral.com/how-upgrade-32-bit-64-bit-version-windows-10), I downloaded Sysinternals' program CoreInfo to check the four values this article says must be in place. All are good.
I haven't found on the Lenovo site yet information about T410 driver options. It seems almost that the T410 is all but erased. There should at least be historical information and links.
My printer driver can update.
I will be looking into specific compents like the Intel HD Graphics.
What Lenovo-specific drivers might there be to upgrade and where are they? I would expect this would not be a problem as this T410 was built with an x64 processor.
All knowledge and experience welcome!
Thanks

Hello, Having issues getting T410 with XP to use an external projector. This is an out of range issue.  The computer definetly "sees" when I plug in the projector but I can't get it to display.  Have updated the drivers and everything works well except this one issue.  I have another T410 with WIn7 and can connect to the same projector flawlessly (FN F7) . I have tried lowering the resolution of the laptop down to 800/600  but still can't get a display on this known good projector. Any ideas/setting in the Nvidea control panel?  Didn't see anything useful in there regarding projectors. katherine

Hi,

My T410 has a valid product key for Windows 7 professional (I believe it is Lenovo OEM version) and I believe it has Win 7 pre-loaded.  Unfortunately, a IT staff in my company re-write all my disk with a XP image.  He also destroyed the reseration (OS recovery) partition of my disk.

I have no choice but to install a RTM image of Windows 7 professional, but I find my product key is invalid for this image.  Can anybody help me out?  TIA!

Hi, I have a T410 corporate with Windows XP Professional sp3 and I cannot upgrade to a newer OS version. I changed the traditional HD with a Samsung SSD 840 Pro 256GB, but the performance is very, very, very poor: only 60Mb/sec instead of 550Mb/sec of 840 Pro. I know that T410 contain a Sata2 controller, so my expectation is max 230Mb/sec. I know that Trim function is not supported with Windows XP, but SSD is new and empty for 85%. I just enabled AHCI function into BIOS before installing OS, so it is correctly recognized from Windowx XP. I used Samsung Magician 4.1 utility to optimize OS and SSD. I updated driver for Intel 5 Series Sata AHCI Controller to the last available from Lenovo support site. SSD Firmware version is the last available from Magician and from Samsung support site. I tried the same T410 with an SSD OCZ Vertex 4 256GB and the performance are correctly 230Mb/sec due to Sata2 controller. So the problem is on the combination of SSD 840 Pro and Windows XP. Do you have ideas? Thanks

I upgraded my Lenovo T410 to Windows 10 Pro yesterday and now want to turn on the Hyper-V feature. However, the Hyper-V Hypervisor checkbox in the Windows Features remains greyed out. When I try to enable it, Windows says, "Hyper-V cannot be installed: Virtualization support is disabled in the firmware."  I assume this is refering to the BIOS settings. However, in the BIOS (in the Config:CPU section)  I have enabled the only two settings related to virtualization:Intel Virtualization Technology: EnabledIntel VT-d Feature: Enabled I ran sysinternals coreinfo which reports:HYPERVISOR -  Hypervisor is presentVMX                 *  Supports Intel hardware-assisted virtualizationEPT                  *  Supports Intel Extended Page Tables (SLAT) I am interpreting this to mean that everything is good from the BIOS/chip perspective and that the Hypervisor is simply not installed. The T410 is equipped with the following:Latest BIOS (v1.45) for the T410.Intel iCore 5 M540 cpu4GB RAMIs anyone else having trouble getting Hyper-V to install on Windows 10 Pro/Enterprise? Is there any command line tool that I can use to tell Windows so that it realizes that the chipset supports virtualization? thanks

Answer:Cannot enable Windows 10 Pro Hyper-V on T410

Hello and welcome,

Out of my depth here but have you done a full power-off power-on reboot since enabling VT?

On older BIOSen particularly the VT setting wasn't seen by OS and apps until a full power cycle happened.

Fn-F5 did work, though. So I installed the T410 Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 8 (3.89.0100) in Windows 8 compatibility mode, on screen display driver version 6.73.01. As a consequence, all Fn-FX functions and the on screen indicators for Num lock/Caps lock etc. are not available anymore. I really would like to restore functionality for a least Fn-F5 and the OSD indicators, any help appreciated!T.

Good afternoon all, While I have researched the heck out of this issue I have not been able to come up with anything useful. I have been having this ongoing problem with my Lenovo T410 laptop and the battery charging above 74%. Sometimes the charging light will turn amber, sometimes it will stay green with a random quick flash here and there. I'm trying to determine for a fact if the battery I have is not functioning, or if it's something else causing it. Below are the steps I've taken to troubleshoot. Completely discharged battery and recharged with laptop off.Reseated battery, and attempted to remove dust from battery connection port.Checked Windows 10 registry for settings regarding charging actions at certain percentages.(This was initially upgraded to Win 10) - Fully remove Lenovo Power Manager from machine.Verify using HWInfo64 that it appears the battery health is good (can provide image if requested)Completely reformatted and fresh installed Windows 10There may be a step or two I have forgotten, but if someone asks I'll let you know if I did it or not. I would love to get this fixed as the laptop serves my purposes other than having a fully charged battery. If there's a surefire way to know factually if it's the battery, then I'll go ahead and replace it.Thanks all!!!

Answer:T410 (Windows 10) - Battery Not Charging Above 74%

Have you tried recalibrating the battery? Open Lenovo Power Manager -> switch to advanced -> Battery -> Battery Maintenance -> Perform Reset. It will take a lot of time to complete, don't remove AC power while this is running. Let it run while you are sleeping or something similar so that you won't have to interrupt the process.

But I don't have Windows disks (there is a COA sticker for Windows 7 Home Premium 64). Can I build a set of recovery disks from this system? Even if Windows won't run? Any info would be a great help.
