(T510) I didn't select the Gobi 3G card when building my order

Question: (T510) I didn't select the Gobi 3G card when building my order

I didn't select the Gobi 3G card when building my order, can I purchase it later and install by myself?

Preferred Solution: (T510) I didn't select the Gobi 3G card when building my order

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: (T510) I didn't select the Gobi 3G card when building my order

It worked perfectly for the first week and then it could not longer be found? We looked in device manager and tried everything but in the end it seems it must have come unplugged? Now my week old computer will need to go in for repair. I asked the CSR and the manager if they could have someone come look at it to get it fixed since it was only a week old and they said no.

Answer:My T510 internal Gobi WANN card cannot be found?

My T510 did not come with the WWAN adapter so I had to install it myself. It's 4 screws and a lift of the keyboard to get to it -- very easy to get to. Go for it!

Question: T510: Gobi 2000

I am an insurance salesman, not an IT guy, so it was a painful experience, but I got it done. When delivered, I had chosen configured for WWAN. I discovered that I had to now order a Wireless card. That done, I followed the picture for installation that one needs a magnifying glass to read. There is no instructions on how to hook up the wires to the card, and I had to struggle to get the wires to lay in a manner that would allow me to close everything up. The first couple of tries resulted in the wires popping off as soon as I tried to secure the card in its slot. Next was getting a mobile broadband data plan. I chose Verizon and wanted a minimum monthly plan. To choose the Lenovo option would mean a 2 year committment at the highest price per month. The only problem is that few people at Verizon know how to set this up. I was transferred to a tech I think may be in Atlanta, but he was the only Verizon tech that understood what I wanted. You have to insist to Verizon that you have an embedded chip wireless card. They will try their best to get you to install a USB dongle. With the Gobi chip, your equipment is customer provided (CPE) so Verizon will allow you a month to month contract and no cancellation charges. I found out that I could make a small software change and get the Gobi to work with Sprint, so I am waiting to see how Verizon works out. If I don't like them, I can switch without... HI, Why Gobi 4000 is not available online for X230T while it can be configured for X230? Is there anyway to order Gobi 4000 instead of Gobi 3000 when I configure a new X230T on lenovo website? Thanks.

Answer:Order Gobi 4000 for X230T

Hey Modfet,

Sry but no the only option you have from ordering on Lenovo.com is the Gobi 3000 for X230T. Its from the difference between a tablet laptop and laptop.

The T510 4313-CTO order page for the Gobi 2000 3G with GPS WWAN only showed 1 Selectable SIM Card option. "SIM Card: USA" After I placed the order Lenovo installed the AT&T option 60Y6055 (and related labels). My service is with VerizonWireless, so I needed option 60Y6054 (and related labels). I was never offered the option to select VerizonWireless. Anyone ordering a T510 with WWAN should consider placing the order on the phone to get access to the correct SIM card options.

Answer:T510 WWAN SIM order option problem

from what i gathered when i ordered the gobi WWAN for one of our machines is that it does BOTH gms (sim required) and cdma. it shouldnt matter which you choose... verizon doesnt require a SIM at all so what are you missing? should just need provide the IMEI/ESN to VZW. is that not jiving with your situation? actually, now that i think about it, the only reason for a SIM card for VZW would be international traveling when it would rely on GSM What is chitty is that lenovo ties the BIOS to accept only certain cards. HP does it as well. if i buy a product i should be able to install any card i want.

I ordered a T510 last week, which I thought came with an i7-620. Now my order status page shows an i5-560. The support chat guy says "per order it is an i5." He says I have to talk with customer support on the phone, but of course they are closed. This does not make any sense. The total for my order was 1,316.65. What I ordered (at least what I thought I was ordering) was an i7, with a 500gb harddrive, and 4gb ram, for a base price around 1200. I added 200-something for the full hd display, 20 for fingerprint reader, 50 for 9 cell battery, and 20 for 6200wifi, for something around 15-1600. Then I used the USPYEAREND code for 15% off, which got me a system at around 1300. When I first realized that the order status said i5, I thought maybe I was crazy or had misread what I was ordering at the time, but this post from 12/26 (I ordered on 12/30) shows the base system with the i7, 500gb harddrive, and 4gb ram for $1249 before the USPYEAREND code: http://bensbargains.net/deal/173102/ . My order status shows that it is about $1300, but shows an i5 instead of an i7. If I really ordered an i5, my order should be about $200 less given the components shown, shouldn't it? Also I checked the order status last week, and I could have sworn that it said i7. I specifically remember checking benchmarks and reviews on the i7-620 against the i7-740 before I ordered, and decid... hi all, i am just wondering if that is possible because i think it must be something with the design of the t510 since my friend has a t420 and his keyboard feels great. unfortunately this t510 (and for the record i had 3 keyboard replacements) and each of the keyboard felt good initially but after some usage, the keys themeslves felt more resistant to press down. Either I am crazy but i feel that my keyboard goes through phases...where before at first the keys are extremely hard to depress and after a while the keys get really easy to depress and after while of typing on that keyboard it slowly the keys starts to get harder to depress down. It is really hard to believe but it is true. Might be a defect in the t510 keyboard or i am just so unlucky to get the same problem 3 times in a row with these replacement keyboards. lol thanks

Answer:is it possible to order a t520 keyboard for a thinkpad t510 laptop

The keyboard on T510, T520, X220, T410, T420, T410s, T420s, T400s, W510, W520 are all intercompatible. So the answer to your question is yes.

Just look for the Part number of the keyboard under the keyboard.

What you describe is possible, as initially the various plastic mechanism has not worn in, once it is worn in to the optimal point, the key will feel easier to type on. But as you use it more, the key mechanism will eventually wear out and create the difficulties you explain.

Just like car engine, there is a wear in period for the engine parts after which the car engine will feel smoother and eventually it will wear out.

P.S. But what you describe will only be noticeable for people whom constantly type on their keyboard at a very fast rate.

All,

If you have a ThinkPad T410, T510 or T420 model, please review this battery recall announcement on our support site.

I just received my ThinkPad X301 (2777-CTO) last week and I've been trying to configure Wake On LAN and Network booting. However, I've been encountering a strange problem in trying to configure the network book priority order: when using the up and down arrow keys to scroll up or down the "Boot priority order" or the "Excluded from boot order" list, some of the listed items would be skipped over. To illustrate this, I will list my steps for reproducing this bug. For the sake of reproducability, after entering the BIOS setup, I've hit F9 to reset the BIOS to default. At this point, Config -> Network -> Wake On Lan is enabled. And Security -> Password -> Hard Disk1 Password is disabled. In Startup -> Network, I'll exclude 2: USB FDD: from the "Boot priority order" list first. Then, I'll try to disable 6: ATA HDD1:. However, at this point, I'll be unable to select 6: ATA HDD1:. When I scroll down to 5: +USB HDD and press the down arrow key once, I skip to 7:. Pressing the up arrow key once brings me to 5: +USB HDD, skipping 6: ATA HDD1:. This makes it very difficult to remove 6: ATA HDD1: from the list without (changing something else). This problem manifests itself in various ways (which changes with the boot priority order and with which devices are included or excluded). For example, if I exclude all but 1: PCI LAN: IBA GE Slot 00C8 v1351, 2: ATAPI CD0: MAT**bleep**ADVD-... I've had Windows Mail working well on Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit for over a year with no problems until very recently.

A problem started 3 days ago.

I have my Contacts List set to show alphabetically starting at A, and until 3 days ago, the Select Recipients box showed in the same order. It's now showing in the reverse order - starting with Z.

I can't find any way to alter this and can't find any references to the problem.

Any ideas for a fix please ?

Robert.

Answer:Windows Mail Select Recipients box show order

I thought Windows Mail was only available in Vista? is it possible you are using Windows Live Mail.
Have to take a guess about Windows Mail , immediately above the contacts is there a box saying name like you get in Windows Explorer click it & it probably reverses the order.
Windows Live Mail look on the Ribbon in the View section for Sort by there are only two option's First name or Last name.

This is my Order Number: 2FFVLJI've always owned a Thinkpad for the past 10 years and am a staunch Thinkpad fan. The R60 and Z60m have been reliable and faithful companions. I have been recommending Thinkpad to my colleagues and friends. Hence when I needed a new laptop, I went directly to lenovo's site and ordered a T510 (Web Special) on 4th August 2010 using a valid credit card. For two days the status was "in process". On Aug 6th, I was unable to login in usng the cust no and order no to see the status. When I called the sales customer service, I was informed that the order was cancelled from lenovo's side. They pointed me to the credit card department for further information. When I called the credit card department, they claimed information mismatch as the reason for the cancellation but they could not point out what exactly was the mismatch. I can assure you that the card is valid. Currently I'm not able to place another order for the same model from lenovo's site as it is no longer available. This is very regretful as I was really looking forward to getting my laptop of choice. I tried calling the sales dept but they are not available as it is weekend now (everyone needs a break ) So I have emailed them for help. I'm yet to get a response. This has been a nail biting experience. I'm anxiously waiting for the response from the sales dept. Will it be possibl... Answer:X120e Gobi 2000 v Gobi 3000

Hello,

I found a spec sheet for the Gobi 2000 here and the one for the Gobi 3000 here. From looking between the two, it appears the newer 3000 model is ready for UMTS - AWS and EV-DO/CDMA ? 2100 MHz (standards which may not have been ratified when the 2000 was released), supports faster HSDPA speeds (14.4Mbps vs. 7.2Mbps) and is 2.5 grams lighter.

I just put together a computer for my dad and booted it up, got the "reboot and select proper boot device..." so I put in the winxp cd, pressed a key, and it restated the message. So I restarted with the cd in the drive, and it still wouldnt boot from it. I have 2 cd-rom drives installed (older ones from my dads previous computer), and in the Bios, it reads both of them as being connected, as well as the hdd. I changed the boot order from Floppy, Primary CD-Rom, HDD to Primary CD-Rom, Floppy, HDD. That didnt work either. Im thinking the cd rom drives may be busted, since they quit working on the old computer too. So I guess i'll switch out a known working drive and see if that works. Hi everyone,

There are two excel sheets I'm working on. The first is made up of 300 names of programs, one each row, and with 2 additional columns with version numbers and extra info. The second is a lot alike, but has about 100 rows and has 2 columns with different information from the first.

example:

Adobe premiere , 6.0.2, video-editing software

Around 50 of these programs match by name (they are both in sheet 1 and 2), and i would like to import extra information about all matching programs from sheet 2 into sheet one, next to the existing information. That would mean that 50 or so rows have 2 additional columns and that about half of sheet 2 is left unmatched.

By hand, this means copying the names from sheet 2, finding a match in sheet one, then copying the 2 columns from sheet 2 and pasting them in the corresponding location in sheet 1. I hope there might be a better way to do this. Does anyone know a way?

Any help is appreciated.

Hey guys, I ordered all my hardware and will be putting together my system. This is what I picked up

Chaintech VNF4Ultra (Nforce 4 Ultra)
AMD Athlon64 3200+ Venice Core
connect3D Radeon X800XL pci-e
1 gig (2x512) PC3200 Corsair VS
Hitachi t7K250 160 gig SATAII HDD
OCZ Modstream 450

Now, I have WindowsXP (professional student copy) which I got through my University. I have read and decided I need to slipstream servicepack2 into WINXP, which I think I shouldn't have too much a problem with. I will be using a Single sata drive, with no raid. Will installing or booting to this drive be difficult? What about the whole F6 and floppy drivers? For some reason I remember my particular disk had issues booting from the CD drive. Can't remember though

It's been a while since I've installed XP but last time I remember hitting some Fx button and it allowed me to change the type of computer, I believe Standard PC is what I would select, this helps with irq issues?

Finally, once the OS is installed is this the proper order of installation files?
1) Windows XP OS w/ sp2
2) Windows Updates including newest DirectX
3) Motherboard chipset drivers
4) Videocard drivers
5) anything else
6) missing anything?

Also any issues regarding fresh and best installation techniques would be greatly appreciated, I've been out of this for awhile so I will probably overlook some things. Thanks!

Answer:building new system, best install methods and order?

What I do, and has never failed for me is:

Unplug myself from any kind of connection to the internet

Install Windows w/sp2 slipstreamed
Install M/B Drivers, Utilities etc
Install Antivirus/Firewall

THEN Update Antivirus/Firewall first, then update WIndows.
After that do what you please.

I will be building my first PC from scratch I am wondering what is the order to install things. My guess would be

#1 Set-up the BIOS
#2. Install OS
#3. Install mobo drivers

(Do dvd/cd-roms come with drivers to install?, also what about harddrives?)

Answer:Order to install drivers/software after building a PC?

typically the drivers for the Optical drives and HDDs are included in the OS and the BusMastering Drivers w\ the mobo drivers (chipset drivers) next would normally be the Video Card, and additional add in cards, followed by service packs and hotfixes, firewall, and security

my securty checklist
applications would be loaded previous to locking down about half that list, its unfortunately not broken out as to the computers role and includes steps only required in a server, and others that would prevent loading some software, there are links lower down to the sites that spell out exactly how to accomplish those steps
and from which you should be able to determine their applicability to your system.

however connect to the internet only after your behind a firewall and have your hotfixes in place

even a small window of exposure can result in someone harvesting your IP, or worse being compromised by an exploit

I have a quick question for those who have the Gobi 3G. When you first turn on your computer does your WWAN light stay on and remain on until you log in into Windows? Since my bluetooth light and WLAN turns off immediately after going past the BIOS screen. Since there are times when I didn't log in and my battery life was pretty drained. Wondering if there's any fix or setting changes I can make? Or is this even normal? Thanks.

Answer:Gobi 3G Card powers on always at start?

Hello mate, My gobi doesn't turn on at startup. If I turn my computer off with the gobi on, the next start it will be on. But if you shut it down before turning off your laptop it shouldn't be on at startup.

I cannot find a GPS signal with a Gobi 5000 card, although the Gobi website plainly says the card it supposed to broadcast a GPS signal. Can anyone tell me how to do this? My software (Delorme Street Atlas USA and Microsoft Streets and Trips) each say there is no GPS device,. The software definitely finds a USB GPS device, but not the built-in Gobi GPS. The Gobi 4000 software came with GPB enabler software, but I cannot find similar software for the Gobi 5000.

I have the identical problem. Lenovo tech support has no idea what to ay about it. It has been suggested that my WWAN card needs to be activated with my wireless provider in case that "turns on" the GPS, but that strikes me as patently ridiculous. I have reference in Device Mgr to a Sierra Wireless Location Sensor, but it is not associated with a COM port, and no software seems able to find it. This is profoundly annoying.

Hi there!

Welcome to TSG!

I know there is an official term, but I was thinking this might generally be labeled as an adaptive system.

I think the first thing I would do is write down everything. Start with listing all the functional requirements of your system. You have a pretty good list to start. I would change those to requirements:

And when you say "and follow them", that means you have output requirements. So you have a set of input/output requirements.

Then, you will need to establish the hardware/software required to execute the inputs/outputs.

Consider voice recognition component. Does it only recognize your voice, any voice, filter out all noises, etc. Does it need to pick your voice up from across the room, across the house, two feet in front of the computer, etc.

So what I am seeing is that you develop a pretty detailed plan of what you expect. Then, I might start figuring out what input/output is needed for each requirement.

Too... I didn't see you mention anything about a budget. I would suspect some of these components can get very pricey.

Hi, this is my first post to the Lenovo forums. I have a ThinkPad T510 that has a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 WWAN card installed. I'm wondering how I would go about obtaining a SIM card for my laptop. Can it be used with any service? (E.G. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon) Would the laptop be capable of running GPS Navigation? Would/could the laptop be assigned a phone number? I'm very new to the idea of WWAN on a laptop, so bear with me! I may ask some silly questions...

I'm getting such mixed information from retailers, and no answer at all from Lenovo after hanging on the phone for an hour. Some retailers say this machine does NOT have WWAN, some say it can be upgraded, and some say it is enabled (ready to go?). I appreciate that there is the NVY4LUK (glossy screen, WWAN upgradable), and NVY5FUK (anti-glare screen, not WWAN upgradable, but I am specifically looking at the top model NVY5EUK.Can anyone state the true position? I don't want to assume it's included if it's not, because the retailer will just claim that they never said it had 3G Broadband in the first place!

Answer:Edge 11 - NVY5EUK: does it have the Gobi 2000 card installed?

An update ... I placed an order today with a UK supplier for an NVY5EUK on the condition that he first find out whether the machine was fully equipped for 3G Broadband - their web site stated 'no', their techie stated 'no', I quoted the 'onebookcatalogue.pdf' from the Lenovo web site, he managed to speak to someone at Lenovo and came back with the answer that it does have full 3G Broadband. As the majority of Lenovo sellers don't seem to know what they are selling (similar problems with the AMD specs too), I wonder how many potential sales are lost because customers think they are getting less than they really are with Lenovo, and go elsewhere for the features they are looking for. Or they get a machine that does not live up to the retailer's spec, and blame Lenovo. It is surely not beyond the wit of Lenovo to publish on their web site a definitive and accurate specifications of all the machines they are currently selling - after all, they are the only ones who can really know. Most retailers seem to rely on www.icecat.biz, which is at best incomplete, and at worst misleading. When my Edge 11 arrives in a couple of days I will know for sure. I trust it will also have the anti-glare screen I am hoping for!

Hi I believe my W510 (4389-2SU) has a Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband card installed but I can't tell for your sure. It's not showing up in the device manager list. I've run the Gobi 2000 driver installer and also installed Access Connections. I use ATT so I ran the Gobi coniguration utility to use the ATT image (2) which it seemed to do with no errors. I also updated the Gobi based code as suggested on the driver downloads site How can I tell whether the Gobi card is installed without opening the machine up? Thanks Mark

Answer:Checking for presence of Gobi 2000 Mobile Broadband Card

Hello mate, You don't have a WWAN modem in your machine. The 4329-2SU has just a WWAN option.

Hello, I've just bought a Gobi 2000 WWAN Card for my Thinkpad Edge 13 in order to use WLAN and WWAN. I assumed that, because I can use this both functions on demand with my T400 (with integrated WWAN option). Now as I got the card I was shocked, that there are not enough screws to hold the WLAN and the WWAN card and that there seems no way in sharing the antenna cables. Do you know a way run the WWAN card together with the former installed WLAN card, cause I would like to use the WWAN option as well as the WLAN option without changing the cards and antenna connectors. Do you know a way to use both cards and share the antenna cables or it is only possible to run one of this both pcie cards ? Regards Jens

I have a built-in Verizon WWAN card in my x200t - and the vista Qualcomm Gobi drivers don't work under Win7 even if compatibility is set to Vista and run as admin selected.

Has anyone been able to get this card to work under Windows 7? I've been unsuccessful with it in build 7000 and 7100.

Thanks.

Answer:X200t: Qualcomm Gobi for Windows 7 / Verizon WWAN card

Jim, I hope you have this working by now, but if not you should know the Lenovo have released Windows 7 Qualcomm BETA drivers, which (at least for my W500) seems to be working fine. You'll find the Win 7 BETA page here and the Qualcomm beta drivers here (ThinkPad UNDP Wireless WAN Driver) I had to uninstall the drivers I had installed from Vista, and then install these. After that , since I have a Ericsson F3507g, I also had to install the Ericsson drivers as well - don't know if this is relevant for yoy. I have this running on Lenovo W500 installed with Win 7 x64 build 7100 and build 7232. Hope this helps,Zorroson

When I place a simcard in the cardholder. The Lenovo software says 'no simcard installed'It's a KPN(dutch) simcard. If I search on the internet I can only find information about this controller working with Vodafone cards. Is this my problem? Is there anything I need to change about my settings or anything? Hi I hope someone could assist. I bought an E120 as my country does not see the X120e I had purchased a GOBI 2000 WWAN Card from Lenovo re-seller. The card passes through the whitelist just fine although it is not stated as one of the supported WWAN devices. I tried installing the 7xwc48ww.exe (X120e and Edge 11 WAN drivers) to see if it would work. The GOBI Loader installs, but the driver does not load, meaning - Under device manager - PORTS - Gobi loader - Under device manager - Network Adapters - No Gobi WAN Card I also tried the solution from -http://curiouslynerdy.com/2009/05/qualcomm-gobi-wwan-card-on-windows-7/ but still no joy. I believe the X120 and E120 are very similar, so I assume the Gobi WAN should be able to work. Can someone suggest another solution? Thanks much!

dell sells a gobi card, http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Wireless_WiFi/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&s... , that would physically fit in the T400s. Lenovo has qualcomm drivers . Anyone have an opinion whether this card would work in the t400s? My concern is that it might be "locked" so as to only work wth specific Dell models. The card provides compatability with multiple carriers such as verizon, AT&T, and others rather than just one carrier. Also could be used with GPS. I cannot find a version of this card specifically designed for the T400s. * Note for Lenovo - this would be a sought after option to avail your customers of.

Answer:T400s with Gobi 5600 multimode broadband mini card & GPS

The T400s Hardware Maintenance Manual specifies an FRU 42T0961 Qualcomm UNDP1 WWAN card, which is a Gobi card. Looks like IBM parts are selling it. That would be all you would need for a WWAN Upgradeable ThinkPad (orange and blue antenna cables already installed - see the HMM). A non-Lenovo card like the one you mention would most likely give an 1802 BIOS error "Unauthorized network card". I have no idea if that card is SIM-locked - maybe someone reading this does?

Hello there,I recently purchased a Lenovo w510 without a integrated broadband modem. (Gobi 2000 - Mini PCI express card)I notice that the slot for a simcard is present in the laptop, and am now wondering what it would take for me to install this product myself. Has anyone had any experience/success with this? The product description is here: http://www.qualcomm.com/common/documents/analyst/Gobi_2000_ProductSheet.pdf So it's a Mini PCI express that we're dealing with. The basic installation method is here: http://pc-level.com/2009/02/installing-wireless-card-on-laptop/ (also I've just noticed that the procedure is well documented in the user manual): //start menu/help and support/lenovo access help/replacing devices But I'm wondering if anyone else has made this upgrade post-sale and had success/challenges. Thanks, SBK

Answer:Installing a GOBI 2000 (post-sale upgrade) - Mini PCI express card

I think you can, provided that you obtain a Gobi 2000 card with Lenovo FRU. A generic Gobi 2000 card or a Gobi 2000 card from another vendor will not work in your W510 without BIOS modding.

This is a follow up post to my original post about Mobile Broadband on M6800.
I purchased the Dell Wireless™ DW5808 Gobi 4G/LTE full Mini-Card (Manufacturer Part# : 1N1FY | Dell Part# : 1N1FY) and installed it in my Precision M6800. I went to my local Verizon store and picked up the correct SIM card (based on the IMEI of the card).
After powering up my laptop, Windows 10 recognized the card and reported it needed a driver. I went to Dell's website and downloaded what I thought was the correct driver and installed it. The installation reported that the driver was successfully installed, however Windows Device manager reports the card still has no driver.
Wash, rinse, repeat over and over again. So far I have tried all of these drivers, and every one reports the installation went correctly, but Windows 10 Device Manager reports the card has no driver.

You are notified that there are updates available.
You can select a link to show you the "Select Updates you want to Install" list.
From there you can select which updates to install.

Is the list ordered by what needs to install first, then second, then third, etc?
Can I deselect all and select a number of them in order, at my discretion?

Due to a virus, I just reformatted C: and re-installed Win 7, so I have 107 updates. This took all day last time on my machine.
In Win XP I had to get out of everything for a windows update. Still true for Win 7?

I don't want the machine down all day, but I have pockets of time to let it update.
Of course, I won't know how long each takes to run, but at least it won't be down for hours at a time, hopefully.

Thanks,

Answer:Is the 'select updates to install' list in install order?

You can select or deselect to your hearts content.
Only those updates which will install without requiring other unselected updates will install.

My usual routine is to select updates in batches

#1 - Windows Security Updates
#2 - Other Windows updates
#3 - IE updates (go through IE9, update that, then install IE10, update that, then install IE 11)
#4 - .NET updates (these are usually the ones that cause most problems)
#5 anything else I missed

Keep doing each group until no more appear in that group (or you get a repeating fail) before proceeding to the ned

well, thank you brianF for that last one. the manual didn't say anything about the audio chipset being optional. there is a blank spot where the chipset should be, so I think that means there isn't one on this board. I ended up getting a sound card, but after I put it in and win me installed the drivers, it restarted the computer and when it restarted, it tried to run scandisk, but now all it does is freeze just after scandisk starts. at that point it won't let me restart using ctrl+alt+del (keyboard is unresponsive) and then I am forced to shut off and go through the same thing all over again. it does the same thing in safe mode and it doesn't let me boot off a disk to run any utilities, even though the floppy boots first. (doesn't seem to recognize the floppy anymore outside of the bios) No settings were changed in the bios (AC97 audio chipset was originally set to auto) and I didn't disable anything for the audio, but it does the same thing even if all audio peripherals are disabled. I can't boot off floppy, and I can't think of any more solutions. after the computer starts, it goes directly to loading Me and then locks up at scandisk. D-LEAD reports 0-0-0-0, and all I can do is manually shut off. any suggestions? sound card is soundblaster 16 pci. the jumper for soft audio codec is disabled and sound card is no longer in system. thanks!

Evidently while trying to take advantage of the Windows 10 Upgrade, somehow some damage was done to a file(s) from my old Windows 8.1 OS pertaining to a missing, or damaged, file.... \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe ... which
in turn rewflects an Error code: 0xc0000001...
At any rate, as a result, I am not able to boot up without an installation disc, nor perform the requested "Restart" to continue with the Windows 8.1 reinstallation because of this Error, and missing file(s), and am at my wits end...
Please does anyone have any idea what my best course of action might be at this point, as I have seeminglly tried everything that I could think of for the better part of two weeks now.
Last night a gal that lives a few doors down checked in on me, because she hadn't seen me for those two weeks and was just pretty concerned about whether I was allright or not, and she suggested that I take the laptop to an outside Technician, but
unfortunately, I am a disabled U.S. Veteran, and I just don't have alot of money to work with.
If someone could please help me with this litlle bit of a predicament, I would surely appreciate it more than you could ever know.
Thank you.... And I Wish you Happy Holidays!

It should switch automatically based on how graphically demanding your applications are via NVidia Optimus. On battery mode, you'll want to be using the Intel card for maximum battery life and minimum heat generation.

I have reformatted the card (using another device) as exFAT, FAT32, and NTFS. None of them show correctly. Sometimes when I insert the SD card, Windows instantly says the card needs formatting, but only allows 27.8GB to be formatted. I have reinstalled Windows before, but have always used the official Lenovo recovery discs. This time I used an official Windows 7 Ultamite disc. Once installed I downloaded all the drivers from the Lenovo web site. Everything works perfectly but the SD reader. I am 100% positive the SD card reader at one time recognized my 64GB card. I used it for over a year to transfer files directly onto the 64GB SD card.

So I just bought a T510 with a bunch of upgrades (i7, 500gb hd, 9-cell batt, 4gb ram etc) for just under $1500 from lenovo.I bought it to replace my old R61i which I bought for $400 brand new in the box off ebay, which was very downgraded but still duo core. I notice a lot of differences and so far almost all positive. Windows 7 is running a lot better than I expected, the machine is very fast, and so on.The only complaint I have is the audio on this thing. The speakers look more impressive than on the R61i, but sound even worse and distort if I turn up my speakers maybe past 30 (out of 50). So I can't play things nearly as loud as I could on my R61i. Obviously this laptop isn't made for having great external speakers and I rarely feel the need to use them, but still its a bit annoying. I immediately turned off all the "enhancements" on the speakers properties, which distort even further. However, even after doing that, through my great pair of headphones I still notice clipping occasionally and that the maximum volume really isn't all that loud anyways. I know its not my headphones. This is a bit annoying because I like to do a bit of recording and multitrack audio editing. Having phantom clipping sounds that aren't actually on the waveform can be a really bad thing. My cheap-o R61i handled audio edited OK, with only some limitations on what it could handle with its processor and RAM. I do, however, like th... I think my mistake was I should of went to the Device Manager and deleted the driver for the display adapter then turn off the computer installed the new video card turned the computer back on and loaded the new drivers. Now do I need to go to control panel and under uninstall a program and deleted the display adapter from there also or just deleting it from the device manager good enough?

Answer:Video Card didn't work

you should uninstall Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
then turn your system off put the new card in after booting install the new drivers for the card.

Okay, here's the situation. Our company has just switched laptop models from the T500 to the T510. For some reason our T510s seem to be having issues with certain SD cards. All cards are 2GB or less; so, this is NOT an SDHC issue. Every unit we've had since the T60 has had an SD Card reader built in and up until now, they've all worked marvelously. Because of that, I had a good baseline for testing on this. I used a 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB SD card with a T61, T500 and several T510s. Using these three cards, I got the following results. 1) The T61 w/ WinXP SP3 read all three cards2) The T500 w/ WinXP SP3 read all three cards3) The T510 w/ WinXP SP3 and SP2 would only read the 1GB card4) The T510 w/ Win7 64-bit read all three cards I was able to repeat results 3 and 4 on every T510 I imaged. For the sake of ruling out a hardware issue, I imaged every T510 I had on hand with both WinXP and Win7. In every case, Win7 would read all of the cards, but WinXP would only read the 1GB card. Driver comparisons showed little difference. The driver versions for the Ricoh PCIe Memory Stick Controller were the same between WinXP and Win7 -- Version 6.10.2.7 dated 10/26/2009 for those who are curious. The SD Host Controller drivers were obviously different between WinXP and Win7, but were the same in WinXP between all three tested laptop models -- 6.0.4069.5 dated 10/1/2002. I hunted around for an updated driver for the Ricoh PCIe Memory Stick Controller. I found one... Read more

I have similar problem with my brand new T410 (2537-FR9), small cards works (<1GB) but all 1GB SD cards says "please format". Also I found one 2GB card which have similar problem (but also I have 2GB cards which works fine). Luckily all >2GB SD cards (tested 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB) seems to work BTW, I have this reader in Expresscard slot: http://www.siig.com/ViewProduct.aspx?pn=CE-E01012-S1Unfortunately this reader does not recognise >2GB cards but with that reader + integrated T410 own reader I can now use almost all my cards (I have only one 2GB SD card which does not work). Also noted that those non-working SD cards pass ThinkVantage Toolbox SD card diagnostic test so problems seems to be somewhere between reader driver & XP...

Hi, I tried a Sedna USB 3.0 card in my T510. It works, but I get sound problems in the form of regular clicks (about every half second) when the card is installed. These clicks happen during windows sound and during playing videos via Firefox. They occur both with Win7 64 and now with Win8 64. All drivers are updated. Has someone tips for me? Thanks in advance,Hans

Hi I can't get my card reader to work in my T510, windows 7 64bit. I've tried to download and install the driver: Ricoh Multi Card Reader Driver for Windows 7, Vista - ThinkPad T400s, T410, T410i, T410s, T410si, T510, T510i, W510, W701 and W701dsversion 2.06.02.02 Everything looks OK, but when I insert a memorycard in the reader it only says ba-blipp and when I take it out it says ba-blopp (normal insert / extract usb sounds) But no disk is showing up anywhere Any ideas?

Answer:T510 W7 64bit cant get card reader to work

I shouldn't reply, since I know ba-blopp about memory cards. I've never tried my T400's reader, but ... Do these cards need to be formatted? Does it show up in Disk Management? Does it have a non-windows-compatible file system on it? Z.

That card is not in the BIOS whitelist for a T520, so it wont work.

WWAN cards and the system platform need to be type approved together as a system by all the relevant national RF compliance authorities, so the approvasl are only sought for the current generation of WWAN cards at the time the system platform is released.

So I ordered a Sabrent High Power USB Wireless 802.11n Adapter in hopes that it would give me wifi capabilities

After looking at the reviews I realized that this might not actually make my computer able to get wifi... There's more info on the product here: Newegg.com - Sabrent High-Power 1000mW Long Range WiFi Wireless USB Range Extender With Detachable 6dBi Dipole Antenna!

So I just wanted to ask if this would give my computer wifi or not.

Answer:My refurbished desktop didn't come with a wifi card...

So I looked up the NT-WGHU specs and I see two possible issues:

1- It is not 802.11n capable, it only support 802.11G (and possibly B)
2- I do not see where Windows 8 is supported (only up to Win 7)

You can download the users guide from this page:

Good luck.

Oh, and of course, this is intended to work with your existing wireless router.

Is it possible to take nVidia off and put standard intel graphics inside? My T510 model is 4314-DBG

Answer:T510, integrated nVidia graphics card removal

Automatic Switchable Graphics means nVidia Optimus in this case. You can set it to the Intel IGP by choosing Integrated in BIOS.If you don't need the nVidia card, why not order the Integrated only model?

I was attempting to help my neighbor get more bang for his buck by purchasing a used desktop computer with a decent CPU and managed to finally suggest a used HP Compaq Pro 6300 MT with an Intel Core i5-3470 3.20 GHz CPU, 8 GB, 1 TB HD, Windows 10...winning bid was $161 total price. The problem was that I totally missed the final note of the eBay ad description which stated that a graphics card was not included. Once I got the computer set up and running there was an immediate problem of the screen content running outside the borders of the screen, and it took a lot of phone calls and unsuccessful troubleshooting before it was finally realized that the graphics card was missing. While I'm not absolutely certain, that in all likelihood is the probable cause of the screen content overrun.

What I would appreciate would be to here from some folks who are more technically knowledgeable than myself to help me get my neighbor up and running normally as soon as possible....(and help me to resolve this embarrassing predicament for which I'm to blame). It is terribly difficult to operate a computer when half the taskbar, all of the start button, most of the upper row of your browser, and so on are out of sight and you have to go blind cursor fishing with hopes of finding them to keep operating.

Just one day past my warranty and a small amount of juice spilled on my T510 keyboard. The machine doesn't power up now. The situation is, when on battery, the machine does not respond at all, but when use the power cable, the power button on the keyboard illuminated and when pressed the micro button illuminated. But the machine does not power up. There is a fuzzy sound of current running through when the power cable is plugged in, I took apart the keyboard and top panel, inspect the motherboard and didn't see a single water residue and I suppose the water doesn't get inside the machine. Another proof is that the bottom of keyboard is sticky because of the juice but the mother board feels completely clean and dry, except for dirt. I was wondering if there is some problem with the keyboard but does not have an extra one to test; I test the motherboard with a phone plugged into the back usb which suppose to provide power under power cable, and didn't work. If the motherboard is broken I probably will be charged at lest 400 bucks for replacement, not including labors at a local service provider. I called the customer service and they refused to provide any suggestions unless I send in for at least 175 bucks. Is there any suggestions I can future diagnose the system with normal household tools or should I just send in th system for 175-575 bucks? For that price I probably would get another refurb laptop. I attached two photos taking under the to... Read more

Answer:[Urgent] [T510] Water Spill issue T510

A basic warranty wouldn't cover accidental damage like a spill anyway. Juice is one of the worst things to spill. It has sugar and acid, and it conducts electicity. If the spill just happened today, you can try complete disassembly, cleaning affected areas with electronics cleaner and then delatured alcohol. You can dry it in a very low (under 200F) oven. My experience has been that it sometimes works, but not usually. The fact that you can hear something is not good. Often the spill is more obvious on the bottom of the board.

and i was wondering if it is a good card, and how much does it afects that it has 256 bit insted of 128 ?
Thank you!

Answer:want to select pci-e card

The ATI X8** range is not very good because it doesn't support Pixel Shader 3 which the next generation games will requier to run the games in directX 9. The Nvidia 6 series cards do support this feature.

Ignoring that. It is better to have 256b, as it has wider bandwidth, so it is better.

But. It still is not a good card: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2299&p=6

Hi -- I just got a T510 w/ discrete graphics card, ie, the NVIDIA NVS 3100M w/ 512mb of dedicated video memory. However, when I look in "Performance Information and Tools" under the "View and print detailed performance and system information", I see the graphics as "Intel(R) HD Graphics". Under the "Graphics" section I see this: Graphics Display adapter typeNVIDIA NVS 3100M Total available graphics memory1696 MB Dedicated graphics memory64 MB Dedicated system memory0 MB Shared system memory1632 MB Display adapter driver version8.17.12.5738 Primary monitor resolution1920x1080 DirectX versionDirectX 10 This is a bit confusing, because now it says the adapter is NVIDIA, but the dedicated memory is only 64 MB. Seems odd as I should have 512MB? Thanks

Answer:T510 w/ NVIDIA NVS 3100M -- Window 7 not recognizing discrete graphics card

That would be due to the Optimus nature of your T510. When not working the GPU, the discrete chipset is powered off, and the Intel one is active. If you load a game and check again, it should show the proper amount.

Answer:Help me to wisely select a new graphics card

Yes you will need to upgrade your power supply.

Now frankly, you won't really be running GTA4 too well on a $120 budget, while the 4850 is strong enough, you have to throw in a power supply into your budget too. Just as a side note, your processor is decent, I think it could be worth investing about $180 for a CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Retail and a XFX HD-485X-YDFC Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail.

I am buying 2 new computers for 2 of my sons.
I have seen a system which seems to be "adequate" but I am in the dark when it comes to video cards.

I understand that certain cards can only go on motherboards with appropriate card slots - ie AGP, PCI, PCI express. I will give the specs of the system I am looking at, bearing in mind that if someone wants to recommend a card requiring a different motherboard, I can look at that option, as this is a new computer. The vendor can substitute any of the components to custom requirements:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ system:

Gigabyte GA-K8U motherboard
512 Mb PC3200 400MHz DDRRAM
80 Gb 7200 RPM HD
52x32x52 Samsung CD Writer
128Mb Gigabyte Geforce FX5200 Graphic
3D Integrated Sound Card
FDD
ATX Med tower case/power supply
2x front USB and 4x rear USB ports
Integrated 10/100 network card
Parallel port, serial VGA port, PS/2 ports

Price: $660 AUD

Seems good value to me. Now about the graphics card:

Looking on this forum, found a lot of people have upgraded from that particular graphics card....my kids aren't what you would call "heavy" gamers, but they do like to play Half-Life, Medal of Honour Allied Assault, Rogue Spear. They also give Adobe Photoshop a work-out doing car chops.

Background info on where they are coming from:

Son 1 has Thinkpad 600E with Neomagic Magic Media 256AV , Pentium II processor, 192 Mb RRAM, 6Gb HD. He plays Half-life on this but it is a bit slow.

I was trying to get the new Battlefront game to work, so I switched the graphics card to my house. Ever since then I had my computer crash about 6-8 times and reverted all changes but it still happens. I need help as to what to do to fix this problem

Laptop specs:
ASUS ROG GL551J
Intel i7-4710HQ/BGA
Nvidia GeforceGTX 860m

Answer:My Laptop keeps Crashing after I select a diff graphics card

Could you be more specific when you say your laptop crashes? Is it BSOD'ing? Is the driver crashing and causing the game to crash? Have you tried updating your drivers? Have you checked to see what your temps are?

Also, what exactly do you mean by "switch graphics cards" ? Do you mean switch from integrated to dedicated?

Do the following to disable auto system restart on BSOD:
Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings on the left panel -> 'Settings' under 'Startup and Recovery' -> uncheck 'Automatically Restart" and click OK on all open dialogs. Go ahead and play Battlefront again and try and get it to crash.

If it BSOD's, then upload the dump files it generates under C:\Windows\Minidump

Morning,
I use a small key machine for cutting keys.
The files are stored on a 2Gb SD card.
I have a file which is the same cutting information but its only in one folder under Y and i need the same file now put in folder S
I have copied the existing file from Y folder, renamed it then put it into the S folder.

Looking on the pc all seems perfect in the S folder.
Example
S1
S2
S4
S7
S8

But when i put the SD card back into the machine and view the S folder i see the following
S1
S2
S7
S8
S4

Why is S4 last and not between S1 and S7 which is its correct place.
As the file is the same but just renamed the date properties is the same so its not that.
I am unable to pin point the issue & the list above is just a small sample of what is in the S folder.

Any new member of staff would look where it should be,then not see it thinking this key cant be cut, not knowing its last in the list.

Do you know of any reason why this is happening please.

Have a nice day...

Answer:Order Of Sd Card Files Out Of Sync

So many informations are missing ...
What file system is on your SD card? What operating system do you use? What file explorer shows the list of folders in the "wrong" order? By what column is the list ordered (if any)?

Just an assumption:
If your SD card is formatted in any kind of FAT system then files and folders might be enumerated in the order they were written to the file table of the FAT file system. (E.g. this is what happens if I use the Windows command prompt to list files instead of the Windows explorer.) This has nothing to do with the name of a file or folder and has not necessarily something to do with the date of the file or folder.
Maybe your file explorer or the file dialogue of a certain application works in the same way.

HiI can not understand whether I need to buy an express card or some other devices in order to use my mobile SIM card to connect to internet or thinkpad T61 series has some builtin functionalities which let me insert the sim card and surf the web? for example does that wwan ready means this functionality or I should buy some additional devices? Thanks

Answer:What do i need to buy in order to use my SIM card for connecting to internet?

You bought a T61 and it is supposed to be "wwan ready?" Is that correct? Could you read the list of features that came with the machine, and tell us what it says about "WWAN", "Cingular", "AT&T", "Verizon", or "integrated WWAN" or "WWAN ready." Look at the Windows Device Manager, and look under "Modems" and "Network Adapters" and see if a Sierra Wireless card is installed. Turn the machine off. Turn it upside down, and remove the battery. You may now see a place to insert a SIM card. If it's there, it will be obvious. Once you give us this information, AndyP can probably answer your question. Centex

Last week I got a great response when I posted a topic of my monitor not working, and it appears that I have a bad onboard video "card." So, I ordered a new graphics card from NewEgg: EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail Item #: N82E16814130085 Someone I work with warned me that the card might not fit, and now, just looking at the picture on the box and comparing it to the expansion slots in the computer, I think he's right. The computer has 3 expansion slots (about 3 1/4" total) that are off-white in color, starting with a long opening (2 1/2") located closest to the outside of the case, followed immediately by about a 1/2" opening; I know this is where the video card pins should go. (There is also a dark brown slot that is not immediately next to the outside expansion openings.) While I haven't opened the box, the picture shows the outside slot, followed by a short row of pins, then the longer row of pins. This is just the opposite of my opening. So, I am assuming that I need to return the video card and get a different one. However, I am not sure how to make sure that the video card is going to fit properly. Any help would be appreciated...again!

I had used my VISA card to order a T61 notebook from US LENOVO website on 3rd March,2008. It costs me $828.75.

But I found that someone charged me $828.75 again on 4th March, 2008. Then I called the VISA center to enquire about it, they told me that LENOVO charged me two times, one is on 3rd March(this is my order), and the other is on 4th March(who did it?).

Why? What's wrong? I ordered only one T61, how can LENOVO charge me two times?

And I promise that I had never give me VISA card information to anybody else, nobody can use it except myself, so it's the mistake of LENOVO.

I had sent a E-mail to lenove in US, but no reply.

Who can tell me why and give a answer? How can I get my money back?

Hello, all.

I recently purchased a 2GB micro sd card for my LG VX8550 phone. I don't have any problems transfering files or listening to music. However, I need help solving an annoying problem.

In the Album category of my phone's playback options, the songs get arranged alphabetically.

What's somewhat confusing about this is that on my PC (from where I'm loading the memory card) the songs I have in my individual album folders always have numbers before the titles to make sure they're played in order (01, 02, 03, etc).

It seems that the phone dismisses the manually inputed name of the song and reads the title digitally, and arranges the playback alphabetically, thereby usurping all sembelance of order, which is annoying when I want to play all the songs from an Album and find them playing all out of order...which is even more frustrating when listening to "concept" albums.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Answer:Solved: Songs Not In Order On Micro SD Card

Ok...Here's the deal...

VCast Music software only reads music alphabetically for songs that are imported from our own music libraries. This is because the software sorts based on ID tags.

I resolved this by changing the ID tags.

It's a very simple process, but very tedious as it involves tagging each individual song that I want played in a certain order.

Right Click on an MP3 file. Go to Properties--->Summary Tab

Make all the necessary changes (in my case, adding 01,02,03,04 etc before each song title that I'm going to be playing in album mode).

Anyway...now that this is resolved, I hope this thread will help someone in the future.

Cheers, all.

I lost the driver disk for my BroMax PCMCIA modem card. I just formatted my hard drive and installed Windows 2000 Pro on my notebook computer. I needed a driver to use my modem card with Windows 2000 Pro. I downloaded a driver for my modem card and compatible with Win2k on the card's manufacturer's website.

During the installation of the driver, Windows prompted me that this driver didn't contain the Microsoft signature. I continued the installation anyway. Then Windows said that the installation could not be completed for the following reason: "\SystemRoot\System32\DRIVERS\ltmdmnt.sys device driver could not be loaded. Error Status was 0xc0000221".I tried a few times. Sometimes it froze the computer, some other times, I gota blue screen with the same message "\SystemRoot\..." when I restarted the computer. Finally, I just uninstalled my card.

The card's manufacturer doesn't reply to my emails. Do you think there is something wrong with the driver I downloaded, or there is a different problem, like the BIOS settings?

PS: During the installation of Win2K, I chose the option to "upgrade" my files to the "NTSF" system or something like that for a better reliability and security. Then I was warned that my modem card would not work. I thought I would just have to reinstall the driver and proceeded with the installation. Do you think this "NTSF" or something issue is related to my problem?
THANKS!
