T500 battery life and extra battery

Question: T500 battery life and extra battery

Hi, I recently ordered and started using a T500 with P8600 processor and 9-cell battery (the one sticking out in the back). After adding 2GB extra memory and an Intel x25-m g2 SSD, I started using it with Windows 7. I have been using it for a little more than a week now, and I've noticed that battery life seems quite bad. Granted, I've only run it on battery for a longer period once, and then I got about 3h 10 min running time on battery. This was with graphics switched to intel, optical drive turned off, wlan and 3g-card off, screen dimmed to half, power plan set to power source optimized.Usage was fairly light, editing code inside Visual Studio. Would this be expected running time? It seems quite short to me, considering my old HP nc8430 with T7200 processor (34W TDP) and 7200rpm disk got nearly 5 hours when it was new.. Is there any kind of extended battery available?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Heoo hugohallqvist, welcome to the forums, You should see this link here http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T400-amp-T500-Battery-size-what-sticks-out-... Battery life wise, I can get around 1:30 minutes, pure gaming to about 4 hours. If you have battery issues, get the larger 9 cell and 3 cell one that fits into the Optical Drive Slot so you can get double battery life. It will be a lot heavier but except 6-8 hours.

My T500 is currently being used as a desktop replacement.   So it is plugged into an AC outlet all the time. My question is how to best preserve the battery life and capacity of a 9-cell..  Detach the battery, will the AC power it while battery is detached? It would be slightly more convenient to leave the battery attached... Is the laptop powered solely by the AC while plugged in, so the battery's life would not be affected? Any other ideas?

Answer:T500- how to best preserve battery life/capacity when T500 is always plugged to AC

i've heard detaching it helps a lot since it reduces a lot of the heat. also i've heard of people detaching it and storing it in the refrigerator but honestly i don't think thats necessary. just keep the battery charged about...i believe it is 50 percent...and in a cool area.  there is an excellent article on batteries somewhere, i'll have to search for it later

Question: T500 battery life

I have a T500 that is now about 17 months old and the battery is on its last legs. I get about <50 minutes in a charge. Is this the experience of other users or is this perhaps an indication that I did not take care of the battery in the best way? Also, I have a serious gripe about the Lenovo power management (that green battery thing in my taskbar). FOr the longest of time, it would indicate that I have 2hr30 min of batter life, then after about an hour, with about 1:30 battery life showing in the gauge, it would pop up the 4% critical battery warning and within 3-4 minutes enter hibernation mode.  I checked the battery maintenance and it never indicated that battery maintenance or recalibration of the gauges was required. This sucks.

Answer:T500 battery life

how many charge cycle have you gone through, and what is the brand of the cell make, i.e. Sanyo?

The problem you describe is probably due to faulty battery cells.

Question: t500 battery life

This might be a dumb question.  I have drained the battery twice to zero and fully charged it twice.  Would this ruined my battery?   This happen on its own.  I have it programmed to charge at 20 and stop at 68 for some reason it charged all the way to 100.  thanks

Answer:t500 battery life

You should reinstall the latest thinkvantage power manager. The deep cycling won't affect your battery, but ideally you should stop charging at around 85%.

Other reviews claimed people getting about six hours. I did the battery gauge reset earlier today, it calculated a max of a little less than three hours as well. My friend's t400 2.2ghz (with 9-cell) seemed to last for six hours easily, possibly more than that.

Have a 6 month old T500 which I love.  Always had good battery life (can't remember the duration, but never had an issue with battery life). Earlier this week, I did the Windows 7 Upgrade (machine originally came with Windows Vista OS).  After doing the upgrade, I've noticed a substantial decrease in battery life (now lasts for about 2 hours max). Have reinstalled ThinkVantage Power Manager and Toolbox applications, but that hasn't helped.  Also did power meter reset, but that doesn't seemed to have helped. Has anyone else experienced this?  Any suggestions out there?

My son has a two year T500 that's been working well (running Windows 7 Professional). Over the summer, I ran System Update and updated a bunch of drivers, including the Power Manager. He's now back at school and says he is only getting an hour and a half of battery life, which is much less than he used to get. Is it possible that the new Power Manager did something to reduce the battery life? I guess it's possible that two years of use has taken its toll but it would be a major coincidence.

Answer:T500 battery life poor since installing Lenovo updates

well what is the full model number of the T500? xxxx-xxx?Also under the information tab in Thinkvantage power manager? what is the full charge capacity and what is the design charge capacity for the battery? If he uses the battery everyday, then after 2 years this behaviour would be considered normal.

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

So... I was trying to search that problem (many of us has troubleshooting with battery) but I think I must write that post.First: since month I have error from my Windows 7 (64bit, professional edition): Consider replacing battery, bla bla bla... Is that a problem with my drivers or witch 3 years old battery?Secondly: to that trouble i can add that yesterday my charger has broken... So today i was testing my laptop with other searching some troubles on main board. Tension was not stable until battery was fully charged. Then after 5 minutes (time needs to drop battery level under 60% from 93%) i was again not stable (+/- 1A). So I think it is problem with battery, I'm right?Last thing: is there any software to format battery for Lenovo Y530? I mean I want to try repair my battery if this is possible. I wanted to format battery from my BIOS but there is any option to do this. Is there any software which allows to format battery manually without BIOS? Or just I must upgrade BIOS? Can I get link to download new version of BIOS? Thanks for reply  Ahh I forgot...Is that important in which order I'm trying to install drivers? I bought computer with Vista later I bought Windows 7 and then was troubles with battery and others... So that is important which driver I install first (I mean: "first you must install that driver then that later this and on the end that one")?

Hi all,
I've owned my Lumia 920 for 3 years now, purchased brand new and always looked after it. I've had no issues until yesterday, except for about 2 months ago the side-camera button stopped working to load the camera app and take photos (app tile and on-screen capture button now).
The night before last, I put my phone on charge whilst I went to sleep and when I woke up in the morning I found that the battery was showing as being in saver mode. I thought the lead had come loose so I let it charge again and confirmed it had the charge icon. When I took out the lead 30 mins later it had even less charge.
I thought the phone might just be going screwy so I did a soft reset (held volume down and power until the screen went off, and then the phone vibrated and reset). When the phone came back to life, it had 100% power.
Within 3 hours I was down to about 50% when it had just been sat on the desk, idle, next to me. I turned the phone off and on again, and the battery life was back up to about 98%.
This continued through the entire day; three times it entered battery saver, but when I reset the phone the battery life jumped back up to it's "real" value but then resumed falsely draining fast.
I thought I'd just let the phone run out of juice but I think it hangs at "5%" (false) battery and won't actually turn itself off. It was at 5% when I went to bed last night, and 8 hours later it was still at 5%. I reset it and it went back to 41% (having not been charged in just over 24 hour... Read more

Hello

I just purchased a Satellite L775-15q and I want to know the best plan to charge my battery, so it can last as long as possible.
Should I leave the laptop always connected on the charger power cord, no matter if it has full battery or not? Should I always let the battery drop to 10% and then charge it up to 100% and then remove the cord? Or should I do that from time to time and not every day?

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite L775-15Q - Battery Charging plan for long battery life

Hi,

I think the best that you can do is discharge the battery two-three times a month not everyday.

Despite the manufacturer's claim of 7 hours battery life on my Lenovo Ideapad 320S-14IKB - 81BN (S/N: MP1CHQTJ), I only get around 3-4 hours. This is with light usage, Reddit, a little bit of youtube etc. CPU usage was mostly around 0-5% the entire time. This was with the max CPU state in power settings reduced from 100% to 85%. However, I do have the screen at 100% brightness. As a different test, I tried doing (almost) nothing (apart from keeping the screen bright), and got 6 hours out of the battery. Is there a simple solution to increase this? It's only a 30 Wh battery (2 cell). Maybe in the future, a 60 Wh (4 cell?) one will come out for this model?

Hi
Anyone had this issue?

My battery indicator (Windows and also the Toshiba PM) don't show the remaining battey life in minute but only in percentage.
is it correct or there are some strage settings in power setting menu?

Thanks

Answer:NB200 - Battery indicator shows only battery life in percentage

Mine does the same, thats just how it is in XP. But I believe the Vista power saver shows the remaining time.

I think you will need to download a battery utility from the Internet to display the remaining time.

Hi guys,I am very happy user of Lenovo T520. I have upgraded to Intel 520 SSD disk and ram to crucial 2x4GB DDR3 and laptop is performing very well ! When I bought my T520, I bought one replacement battery- 9 cell battery(laptop came with 6-cell). I have used it about 10-30 times only and kept it always only 80% charged in cool place(actually at room temperature 22C approx). After one year of no-usage I wanted to start using this replacement battery again. I am very disappointed and confused. I have inserted my 9-cell battery with only 20 charging cycles and it has very low capacity and runtime. Please help me? My old T42 had an option to only start recharging the battery once it fell below a specifiable threshold - like 75%, using the battery maximizer tool. This reduces the number or cycles on the battery, and extends life if you frequently unplug your computer for only a few minutes at a time. I can't seem to find the same option in the lenovo energy management application. HAs anybody else seen, or know of a way to achieve this?

Hi There! Some Questions:1) Is the CPU of the Z510 on a socket so I could upgrade it?I saw a dissambling video, that looked like you could do that. And if one can do that: If you place a i7 on that board will the cooler be strong enough and is the battery able to keep up with the power needed from that i7?And if I'd go totally crazy and replace the i5 4200, upgrade that thing to 16gb ram and change the hard drive to an ssd: Will the battery just vaporize? SO: Is it possible to upgrade the 4cell battery installed in my z510? Thanks for your responses! Regards from Germany,Ruforion

Hey there,
Yes you read it correctly: I have just received mine, which I purchased because of battery life and overheating and fan noise issues on the Dell XPS 13 i7 7th gen. The 8th gen was supposed to have solved all the issues the previous version was plagued with...
Well... I unboxed it, loaded all of my softwares, installed all the WIndows updates, Dell drivers, you name it. Charged it and started using it. When I unplugged the power cord, first estimate was 4hrs on the Windows battery indicator. Then I installed BatteryBar to have a more reliable estimator. Same.
Later on, I discovered a very strong and very loud fan. Unsurprisingly, the underneath was burning hot.
Got the support team on the phone, whilst I was talking with them, the fan kicked in and I even could give them a glimpse of how loud that was over the phone.
Has any of the lucky owners of the XPS 13 i7 8th gen come across similar issues?
Sometimes, I am just baffled by the world there is between the promise and the reality....

Answer:XPS 13 8th gen i7 16GB RAM QHD+ Battery Issues 4hrs battery life tops

A brand new system may have an unusually high level of background tasks running simultaneously, such as Windows and other applications checking for and downloading updates, Windows monitoring your usage to optimize technologies such as PreFetch for your usage patterns, etc.  You might want to conduct a battery test after things have settled in a bit more.  The QHD+ display takes 2-3 hours off of the expected battery life, but you should still get 7-8 hours under normal use.  Then again, if you're heavy on WiFi and max out display brightness, you'll get less than that.  The fact that the fans are kicking on also suggests there's an unusually high level of background activity running, so check Task Manager to see if you can find out what's responsible for that.

On windows 7 this mode on Energy management software limits the charge percentage to 60% on Z580 But the charging doesnot stop it keeps charging and discharing to keep the level stable at  60%. Does that not void the whole point of running this mode?

Answer:Optimizing battery run time and battery life Faulty setting

Welcome to the forum toxicdevil.

The Energy Management for Win 7 is behaving normally. There is a 5% range, for when the system will initiate the charging sequence. It should begin charging when the battery gets down to 55%, and stop at 60%. If your gauge does not stop charging at 60% (Plugged In, Not Charging) you could have a problem.

Also, I noticed in your other post, you had upgraded to Win 8.1.

That's not very good. My 4 cell battery gets 2.5 - 3 hours with typical use (wifi on, OneNote, firefox, screen backlight set to 9).My 8 cell battery gets around 6 hours under the same conditions. Video playback can kill those numbers though.

My X1 is about a month and a half old: 1. Battery life on a charge appears to be a little under 3 hours without changing the settings it came with. I know there are setting to maximize the time on one charge but for normal factory settings is this time normal? 2. When I check battery Power and Performance it states that the battery is at 85% of its original capacity. To lose so much capacity in just a month and a half seems odd. Is this normal or can this measure vary? All in all I am having a very positive experience with this computer however I am a little concerned with these power readings I am getting. Thanks in advance.

Answer:X1 Battery Life on a charge and Battery Health Questions

hey bbfolgart,1 - since you did not change any setting, the hours of usage in my opinion is about right; though this also depends on the battery you are using as well as other factors such as screen brightness; application that you're using, if the wireless is on, etc. all of this plays a role on the how much power is left for the battery.2. battery going down to 85% capacity is weird. for this try doing a battery gauge reset from the Power Manager. At the same time, do fully charge the battery and then use your unit without the AC adapter until the battery fully discharges.Recharge the battery and do not use it at this time. Once fully charge, use it again without adapter and see how long the battery last and check the capacity as well.while you do all of this, do check on http://support.lenovo.com if there is any updates for the Power Manager software that you are using and update if applicable.

So I reinstalled Vista the other day, and even before that a bit, my battery life was simply terrible. At one time, I was able to get 5 hours maximum. Now, I can (at max) get 2 hours and 15 minutes out of a 9 cell battery. There was a previous topic on this forum, but like many other topics in the Lenovo forums, the topic was deleted. Nearly everything that I've searched for regarding problems with my thinkpad, I have found a topic that linked here, but was since deleted. Very annoying.   So, I have power manager 2.41a. The battery is correctly listed,  (86 Wh Li-Ion). I powercycled it one night, and it changed to 3 hours, but it went back down to 2. I should be getting at least 5, but I've heard reports of people getting 10 hours. I'm no where near that! I'm on power saver setting, and my brightness is at about half. I have all the latest drivers, System Update didn't return anything.  Also, my switchable graphics has stopped working, as it has with plenty of other people. Any word on when a fix for this will be out? It's disappointing to spend $1400 on a laptop, only to have key features stop working. My first experience with Lenovo has not been a good one so far. I thought these things were supposed to be rock solid? That's why I bought it... the keyboard on this one sucks, it's matte instead of rubberized. It's plastic everywhere.... Why spend a premium on something that gets me the quality of an HP or a Dell? Why not spend half the price? &n... Read more

Answer:T400 Battery life very poor. 9 cell battery.

Okay, a couple of things. First to address your battery life. If you are using the latest ATI Switchable graphics drivers then do this: Start -> Run -> type 'MS Config' hit enter. Go to the start up tab and uncheck the following:  igfxpers.exe; igfxtray. For whatever reason, the new ATI switchable graphics driver when on integrated mode hangs the processor causing it to use 50% of the CPU resources. I found my power usage went from 14-16 watt draw back to 8-9w draw. Next for the switchable graphicsdo this: Lenovo just released Power Manager 2 on 1.5.09. So far, I didn't see it available on the Auto Update utility but I found it when browsing the downloads page. So me being OCD about having the latest versions of software/drivers, I decided to download it. After the install, I found that my switchable graphics wasn't in the left click menu as it always has been. I right clicked and did not see it there either. Remembering what I did for the clean install (I went back to factory install), I did the following steps.Restart computer -> go into BIOS and select Discrete graphics only. Let windows start and re-install the drivers. Did another restart to ensure functionality. Then I went back to the BIOS and selected Integrated only. I let windows start, and again it had to re-install the drivers. Once this was done, I entered the BIOS again and put the display to OS detect function and booted windows normally. Thinking I had it fixed, I left clicked on t... Read more

When running on the battery, at the start it suggests some 3 hours of life with 100%, but after less than an hour the system suddenly goes into standby.

I get no "low level" warning any more. The Toshiba Power Saver actions are set up to alarm at 20% and go to standby at 10%. This matches the settings under control panel / power options.
I tried a new battery but the symptoms are exactly the same.

Any ideas?

Answer:Tecra M2 - battery meter/ battery life problem

Nothing immediately springs to mind, but I have a few questions which may help to elicit more information:

- Do you need to plug the M2 in to the charger to make it come out of Standby?
- What happens when you come out of Standby? Does it indicate near 0% of some other value?
- Does it recover from Standby or has it lost any BIOS settings (e.g.) wrong timedate?

Might be worth checking to see if you did anything prior to the problem which may be a factor.

I have a 2013 X1 Carbon.  The battery had originally given me 4-5 hours of life on normal settings.  Recently it had gone down to 2 hours, close to 3 if I used power saver mode, dimmed the screen, etc.  So I got a replacement battery -- and it made no difference.  The battery was installed by a service tech, since it's not user-replaceable.  I thought maybe it was a defective battery (or the tech put the old one back in by mistake), so I called, and they sent me another new battery.  SAME THING.  Battery life is still about 2 hours.   I installed all updates and ran a complete virus check (no viruses).  I run a normal amount of programs and nothing crazy - Chrome web browser, MS Office applications, Skype, and a few others.  I can't understand this at all.  Any ideas would be most appreciated!

Answer:Battery life terrible even with replacement battery

BatteryBar Pro helps me monitor how much battery I am using and how much I have left.  I tend to average about 8 watts of drain when I'm using my 2015 X1 which translates into about 6 hours of use with a 50 watt hour battery.  Download it (they have a free version too which is a little more limited in functionality) and that coupled with your Task Manager should help you quite a bit.  Task Manager allows you to sort open programs by how much CPU they are using so you can figure out the offender.  Chrome is a notorious battery suck but I doubt even Chrome could cause the severe drain you are experiencing.

The 6 cell battery for my t500 has a first used date of June 2010, and it currently has 298 cycles on it.   (This is my second battery for the machine.) The condition says fair, and says it currently lasts for up to 30 min full charge, and a new battery would give me up to 1 hour of battery life. Is that normal wear?  How many cycles do you usually get out of a battery?

My family, myself are long time Lenovo Thinkpad T users.  I currently have a T 520.  It's fine as it always has been and quite pleased,  but I would now like something much lighter and it has developed a little glitch that doesn't seem reparable.  I will still keep it as a second, back-up laptop.  I just ordered the T460s that is to my liking and right in my price range (got the basic one new from Lenovo for under $800).   But to my dismay and amazement, I keep reading and hearing about lousy battery charge times ranging from 4 to 7 hrs when it is suppose to be at least 10 hrs.  And about all kinds of efforts and ways to increase it with apparently little success.   I have searched several times in this Thinkpad T forum (and elsewhere) on the latest, up to date info and experience regarding the battery and maximizing, extending battery life for the T460s.  I have not found anything beyond around 10/16/16.    As of 2/12/17, I am wondering what battery is now going into T460s, like the one being built for me.   Is it the same as always or something diferent, new, improved? Are T460s users still having the same problems and issues with the length of the battery charge? Has anyone found something, anything that really does maximize, improve or extend T460s battery life? Thanks, Randy

hi guys, i want to get a battery for my acer aspire 5315 laptop that will give me the longest possible time on the go.

what will i need 4 cell, 6 cell 12cell? which one?

ps. and i know that i can change powerplan and tweak some settings but i think a new battery would be best.

Answer:best battery to give longest battery life?

Assuming that they are all designed to fit your laptop, you need to look at the ratings. Basically, you want the one with the greatest Ah (amp?re-hour) as that should last longest. Although this usually means the battery with the most cells, it doesn't always follow. Check their specifications.

Clocked on various ocassions, from pressing on button (laptop is off and not restarting from hibernation or suspension), to laptop going into hibernation at 2% critical battery level, using the maximum energy saving mode.

This is with wifi on and surfing the web.

Hdd shuts off after 1 min, display brightness at minimum.

Battery was manufactured at least 4 months ago and is the 9 cell official Toshiba unit supplied with the laptop.

Laptop has 2gb memory and the Core 2 Duo T5750 processor, running Vista basic.

Just want to add that this means the laptop is using approx 18 watts, which seems to be a very reasonable number, given that just the processor has a tdp of 35 watts. These Core 2 Duos with speed stepping really reduce their energy consumption.

By the way, display is 1280x800, and the wireless adapter is the realtek rtl8781lb, not the intel one.

How to understand your thread?

If you can work so long with battery power supply only, that is great. Almost 4 hours.

Hi, I recently purchased an Ideapad y560 and I was just wondering how to maximize the battery life and the Laptop's wellbeing. I read the thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/HOW-TO-MAXIMIZE-YOUR-LAPTOP-S-BATTERY-LIFE/m-... which has a lot of information on battery life except it is 2 years old. With my current Hp laptop I take the battery out at 35% and leave it in a ziploc while running the laptop on AC power with no battery connected.  I then try to charge the battery to full after 2 weeks and then kill it back to 35% to restore it.  Is this still the best way to run laptops if the laptop will not need to run on battery power for 1-2 weeks?

Answer:Maximize Battery Life Run on AC Power No battery?

You can try this option:http://drop.io/c6qriao/asset/battery-settings-pngIt's on the Lenovo Energy Management (the bright button on next to the right speaker) --> Click on the "mechanical weel" on the bottom --> Choose the second option.... And read the hint on that screen for more information.

I have a new G580.  I can't find a battery management program on it, but I want to take measures to prolong the battery service lifetime.  What do I do? Second qustion:  I went to the site link for ordering a spare/new battery, but it wants a nine digit model number, and the model number on the underside of this computer is a 5 digit number: 20150.  but there is this number : 59354100.  Also, I can't read the text very well, my eyes are bad, why the hell do they have to make the numbers so small?

Hi, I have had my T430 since August of 2012 at the start of college. I am currently running windows 8.1 pro and I recently just noticed my battery life issues and after installing lenovo settings I discovered that my battery's capacity is at 27% of the original capacity. The battery life is really bad, e.g. it says 15 minutes remaining at 25% on POWER SAVER mode.  I have google this and it said to "reset my battery" but unfortunately 8.1 Lenovo power manager doesn't have that feature.  I am just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what to do?  Will I just have to get a new battery?

Answer:Lenovo T430 Battery Life 1+ hour on life saver

you would have to have a pre-Windows 8 OS to gain that crucial battery reset function. This is one reason why i dislike running Win 8 on ThinkPad.

Hello,
A week or two ago, I started seeing a pop-up appear on my Inspiron screen (I run Windows 8). The pop-up said that the AC adapter was not recognized, and therefore, the battery would not charge. It was the same 65W adapter that came with the laptop. I hit F2 at startup to check the BIOS, and it said the adapter wasn't recognized. I decided to order a new adapter. While I waited for it to arrive, the battery gradually drained down, but the laptop continued to work while plugged in.
The new adapter came today, an official Dell adapter. I plugged it in... Same error message. Adapter not recognized.
I ran a check on the battery; the system says the battery is fine. I pulled the battery, and the laptop still worked via the adapter. I jiggled and checked all the connections. Couldn't find an issue and couldn't make it work.
I checked the BIOS version and date, and it's from 2013. Time for an update! I downloaded the latest version, but here's the problem: It won't install without the battery sitting at at least a 10% charge. The battery, of course, won't charge with either adapter (it's reading at 1% now). So I can't update the BIOS without some battery life, but I can't make it recognize the adapter and charge the battery without the updated BIOS (assuming that's even the problem, but I'm hopeful that's all it is).
If anyone has any suggestions for how I might make this work, I would very much appreciate it! Thank you!!!

Answer:Catch-22: No BIOS updated without battery, no battery life without BIOS update...

Please list Dell model number and version of windows. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
If you don't know, type msinfo32 onto the search box, and then look for System model.....
In the meantime, please check the USB port, where the AC adapter is plugged into system, is loose. You could also wiggle the Adapter's end while checking it in the BIOS to see if the Adapter's type appears.

To all owners of X1 Carbon 2017 (5th gen).I read all of those reviews where people are impressed by 10+ hours of battery life (15,5h advertised), but I can't really figure out how....!? First time I tested was a normal working day - Firefox (a lot of Flash it must be said), Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Nothing really heavy, no peripherals except Bluetooth mouse. Brightness dimmed 1 level below the ideal. It lasted for about 4 hours! I windows's list of apps affecting battery life, Firefox was on 1st place with 32-35% Second attempt - same set of tasks, however less Firefox (no flash) - 7 hours. Now in the middle of a 3rd attempt (using Opera this time) - battery time remaining indication goes over 10h only when I completely stop using the laptop Not many apps running in the background either (Dropbox, Skype...) So my question - do you guys get more than 10h of battery life and HOW? Do you enable "Battery Stretch"? How actively do you use it and for what?

Hi all! As written in the topic I have a huge problem with the run-on-battery-management of my X301-System + Windows 7 SP1. I replaced the optical drive with a secondary battery (ultrabay). Both batteries were identified by the system and charged to 100%.But when I run the system on battery, the system only uses the second battery. So if it runs down, the system turns into suspend/hibernate mode even if the primary battery is charged to 100%.Why doesn't the system switch automatically to the primary battery, when the second one is empty? As long as the second battery is down, the system also won't start/resume from the suspend/hibernate mode. Does anyone know this problem? Is there a known solution for that problem? Thanks a lot for your help. Greets from Germany enweh

Hi all, Just bought myself a brand new U31-70. Yes, I know, it's not that recent, but it is a incredible machine and it has just the right things I need. So, unfortunately there is one (big) small problem ('cause nothing's perfect): the battery. It lasts a ridiculously little amount of time and I would like to know if there's a way to solve this if I'm away from electricity (a battery replacement with some more capacity? an external sort of powerbank, maybe?) I would like to read your comments and suggestions. Thank you.

Answer:Extra battery for U31-70

Hi CarinaMendes,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

So far there are no compatible power banks available for the demand ( 20 V, Discrete Graphics 65 W, Integrated Graphics 45 W) on charging the U31-70 model.

As per hardware manual FRU list, there are also no offered higher capacity battery (item11 page67) other than what is current as a 2Cell battery only.

Having a back up of another 2c battery maybe an option at the present but most likely in the near future we can either have better smaller and high capacity battery along with power banks suitable for the needs we have.

Regards

Question: Extra Battery

So I have an HP dv6449 with just the standard 6-cell battery. I found the extended 12-cell battery on sale for $99.99 when it is normally around $130-$140. Should I get it now at this price? And how much better is the 12-cell, and would it be beneficial to get it especially since I am studying abroad soon?

Answer:Extra Battery

The 12-cell should give you at least 1.5x or 2x run time.

Some of the solutions I tried (and did not work) are: Reinstalling Lenovo Power ManagerUninstalling  Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method BatteryRemoving the battery and putting it back in  As it stands, the battery menu says "Plugged in, not charging" and is stuck at 84%.  If anyone could give me other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. I am assuming it's not a hardware issue as the battery is brand new and was working just fine a few days ago.

Answer:Brand New T430s: A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery.

Not sure if there's any known quirks with that combination of hardware and software, but it sounds to me like the battery had a spontaneous failure, in which case you should just get it replaced under warranty.

Question: T500 battery

Hi All, I have a question on prolonging my battery lifespan.  It's a habit that I'd remove my battery pack when I'm plugged in because my understanding is that will prolong the battery life.  However, that may be archaic given the battery technology these days.  What do you do?  Do you leave the battery engaged while plugged in? Thanks! ps. I have the 9cell pack if that matters.

Answer:T500 battery

leaving the battery in doesn't really affect the battery life, as long as it is not constantly discharging and charging. To prolong your battery life make sure you stop repeated top up charging, so i usually set the battery to charge when it drops below 75% and stops at 95% you can do this setting under battery maintenance under Thinkvantage power manager.

Answer:T500 Battery

The standard specs for this battery are 10.8V and 7.8Ah (or 7,800mAh.)

The voltage rating isn't particularly important. The nominal voltage of a battery can vary, especially with load on it when the system is running.

However in general, the higher the mAh rating the longer the system will run on a fully charged battery. (For example, if your system draws 1A in current, this battery will last 7.8 hours.)

Of course all of this assumes that you trust the specifications of non-OEM batteries. They sometimes, um, exaggerate their claims.  Based on these vendors' eBay feedback ratings I'd probably buy a replacement battery from them but I wouldn't expect it to hold a charge as well as the real thing.

hey guys, I bought my XPS15 9550 last year but the capacity of battery is not as good as I expected. It only last no more than 4 hours and its not convenient for me to carry the charger all the time. I would like to ask if I want to add an extra battery for my lap how do I do it ? where can I buy it ?
thanks !

Answer:Add an extra battery for my XPS15

If you have the smaller battery (56 WHr), you can upgrade to the 84 WHr battery, as long as you don't have a 2.5" drive in the system (or don't mind sacrificing that) -- the larger battery consumes the space required by a 2.5" drive.
If you already have the larger capacity battery, you'll need to look toward an external battery pack of some type -- there is no space in the system for anything other than those two battery options, and the battery is not easily removeable, so swapping in a fresh battery isn't practical.

Answer:Where are my extra battery hours?

Sounds similar to mine, of course we know that many estimates of battery life are inflated compared to typical use.   There are probably some things you can do to extend the battery life, beyond the power saving mode.   Further dimming the screen as an example.   If battery life is really important to you, consider the extended battery that fits on the bottom of the tablet.  The added advantage is that it slightly tilts your tablet screen towards you when attached to the bottom.

I have a lenovo t500 laptop. I made a post last year about very poor battery life and it was determined that the battery was worn out. I purchased a replacement battery online, not from lenovo, an aftermarket brand from amazon. This battery worked great since I got it around christmas time, until last week. I had left my laptop unplugged for a few days. When I went to use it of course I had to plug in the charger to start it up. It started and ran fine, didn't think anything of it. Until I went to move upstairs, so I unplugged the charger and the laptop instantly powered off. It wouldn't start back up. I plugged the charger in and it started up fine. I noticed that the battery gauge on the bottom of the screen shows a thin blue bar as the level indicator, and reads 0%. When I hovered the mouse over the battery gauge it said, battery life remaining 0%. Battery will begin to charge when it falls below the threshold. I had the threshold set at 40% so that when I had it plugged in it didn't just stay at 100%. I opened power manager and reset the threshold to "always fully charge". It still won't charge, it is stuck at 0%. I have reset the laptop. Pulled the battery for a while and reinstalled it. I know the cheaper aftermarket batteries aren't as good as the ones from lenovo, but it doesn't make sense that it would just quit all together with no signs of weakness. I would love some help as I start classes tomorrow for my last year of college and really need my laptop to be workin... Read more

Answer:T500 battery not charging.

this is a typical behaviour in some of the aftermarket batteries. They just die off in a very abrupt manner. If you have the external charger, it may trickle charge it, which may fix the problem (or it may not).At this current moment, there is not much you can do about it.

The battery in my T500 is completely shot, so I figure I'll get myself one for christmas. I did a quick google search for lenovo T500 battery but it was a little overwhelming. Seems like there are choices from $20-$100. My battery now lasts about 10 minutes at the most, if I put it on Max Battery Life power mode and dim the screen. I'd like something that would give me a little bit of extended life even over the original if thats possible. Just wondering whats the best bang-for-my-buck battery. And also what killed this one? I've had the laptop for about 2.5 years, and the battery life was never really good. Usually 2 or 3 hours maybe? Over my summer break from college it seemed to get worse. The laptop sat on my desk at home plugged in the whole summer, which I'm guessing killed the battery. Maybe not though, I don't know much about them... Hope you guys can help.

I have a T500 that was sporadically not charging the battery when it was plugged in or in the Dock. I was running Vista, until about 2 week ago when I installed Win 7. The non charging issue happened before and after changing OS. The same sporadic non-charging was cropping up and yesterday I was on battery power (battery was charged) and I used the laptop for a few hours and then plugged it in when it got to about 10%. It drained down to 7% and says it was plugged in but not charging. I have sinced tried to plug it into a different power cord or the dock and it says it is charging ... but it never goes above 7%. Tried rebooting, etc.  How can I tell if the battery has gone bad or the charging function within the PC?

Answer:T500 Battery Won't Charge

I would try running battery maintaince.  However, if it will not charge you will have to determine if it is the battery or the laptop failiing..  You may be able to determine this by looking at the battery information in the power manager but the best way would be if you knew someone with another laptop you could swap batteries with and check.

Hi All, I've got a bit of a problem. I replaced my old battery with a new one from Lenovo after it was worn out, but now, the Power Manager still shows the battery is in a poor condition, even though it's brand-new. As well as that, the battery sign is still blinking orange, and it still says "A battery error has occurred. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery". Besides that, the new battery is working fine. The problem before was that the laptop (a Thinkpad T500) wouldn't work without being connected to an AC adapter, but now, it can run solely on battery again. Does anyone know what I should do?

Answer:T500 - Replaced old battery with a new one

The only 2 things I can think of are these:1) The new battery is defective2) Whatever was wrong with your old battery damaged the power circuitry on the motherboard

Welcome jmpattersonHave you tried to compare the physical size with the original and the replacement battery? By the way, I would strongly recommend that you bought an original Lenovo battery instead to prevent problems.

Are there any tips to use the battery for a long time ?I've seen the posts somewhere that "conditioning" is not needed for this battery, Li-on based ?Is recharging when the battery is half-charged a bad habit ?Thanks

Answer:Any tips for using the battery ? T500

Hello shong9, First you should load your battery 36h, then unload it normally, till it will go to sleep or hibernate (depends on setting in power manager). Second load it 24, then unload it normally till it went to sleep or hibernate. Third and last, load it 12h, then unload it normally till it went to sleep or hibernate. Then you battery has got itīs full capacity and the powermanger will do all for you, to keep it healthy. You should leave the battery in your machine, if using AC.  When you are working mobile, then charge it, when itīs necessary.  Thatīs it.

I bought a T500 in Jan, 2009. So far my battery only has 53 cycles. But it only could last at most 20min. Sometimes, the gauge shows 60% full, but the next minute it shows less than 1% full and shut down automatically. Although I bought a 3-year warranty for my T500, the representative said the warranty for battery is only one year... And I found I need to spend more than $150 for a new battery... The manufacturer is Sony and FRU number is  42T4623. It is a Li-Ion battery and the gauge still says this battery is in good condition. What's the problem with battery? Do I have to buy a new one? Thanks for any advice. Hao

My battery (FRU: 42t4957) is stuck at 2% and refuses to charge:I kept it at 40-50% most of the time by changing battery threshold. Total cycle count was about 80 (84 now) first use date 2013-03.On Saturday I tried to run a "discharge-charge-discharge-charge" cycle (by watching some movies) to reset the gauge of my battery. During 2nd discharge my laptop hibernated due to low charge much earlier than expected, when I turned it on it showed that the max capacity is 28 Wh and the battery is in the "poor" condition.I tried to perform automatic gauge reset but didn't get much (29 Wh). I updated power manager and performed another automatic reset which failed too.So I tried to make a manual reset and left my laptop paying a movie for a night. On Monday I plugged my AC adapter in but found out that the battery won't charge: "a battery error has occurred the battery cannot be charged".I cleared residual capacitance by pushing the power button several times and reset the BIOS to defaults but got nothing. If this problem can't be sold I would like to know the reason of it to avoid such things in the future. While googling this forum I met contradictory opinions on battery reset: ones say that it's extremely harmful because battery "doesn't like" to be discharged to 0%, others say its harmless.

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Does anyone know where I can get an extra battery for my ASUS N76VZ Laptop? I got it for college and I'm thinking that I would like a second battery to keep in my backpack. I would rather get a replacement battery from ASUS because then it would be exactly the same as the one that I already have, but if I have to go with another brand then I guess that that will have to do. I checked sparepartswarehouse.com, laptopbatterydepot.com, and battdepot.com and none of them have batteries for the n76vz yet. Is there somewhere else that I can get a spare battery, is there a way to get one from ASUS, or should I just wait until one of these websites has batteries for the N76VZ? And if that is my only option, which site should I use, and do they make their own batteries, or do they get them from ASUS?

Thanks,

Hello everybody,I'm strongly leaning towards the Y460 notebook (Probably would've gone Y560 if I never read about those unresolved screen issues) for its decent battery life and decent gaming qualities. I'm heading into my first year university next year. Yes this is probably all irrelevant haha  Anyways, just in case the battery doesn't suit my needs and it shuts down on me before I get a chance to recharge it or plug in somewhere, I was wondering where I can purchase an extra battery. I actually wish it came with an 8 cell battery, or see more notebooks come with 8 cell batteries, but unfortunately, that isn't too common for gaming type laptops. The Alienware MX11 does, but it doesn't even have an optical drive.. I live in Canada if that matters. Thanks.

Is the battery life with the 1.6 better than the 1.4?I've heard the 1.4 is superior to the 1.2 with longer battery life (as well as performance)   thanks

Answer:1.4 v 1.6 battery life

you mean 1.4 and 1.6 ghz Pentium M??? It depends on whether the processor is bania or dothan... most of the thinkpad that was shipped with 1.4 ghz was bania which is produced on a 130 nm fabrication process with 1 mb of cache. And if the 1.6 ghz Pentium M is a dothan processor, then it is produced using strained silicon technology, in addition to the 90 nm and 2 mb of L2 cache, makes the Dothan processor at the same clock speed more energy efficient and cycle efficient than an equivalent Bania processor on the same Front Side Bus speed.

Question: battery life

good evening,

has anyone noticed a shortened battery life with windows 10 or is around 2 hours good for a laptop battery to last without using the charger. I bought my dell e6410 with windows 7 ultimate on it but only used it for a little while that night before upgrading it to windows 10 pro so really don't know if it lost any battery life. it has the i5 2.67 processor and the backlit keyboard. also seems to be the original battery for it as well.

Answer:battery life

I would say it's okay, though be sure to use the battery because if you always use the power supply the battery will then lose some of its power. So by using it, it helps it stay charged longer

Question: pc battery life

How long apprx does the battery in pc motherboard last for? What are the warning signs if it is failing. If it fails does it mean buying a new m/board or what? thanks in advance.

Answer:pc battery life

Battery life is not fixed - I've had many motherboards and never had to replace a single battery - a friend had to replace a battery after less than 2 years. The first indication is that the system fails to remember time and date and reverts to the BIOS basic settings on boot-up. If the battery fails, its normally just a matter of replacing it. Some older PC have mobos with the battery soldered into place, but even these CAN be replaced. But the modern ones take watch-type batteries you can pick up from any PC repair shop.

Answer:Y40 - Battery life only last 30 min

In response to customer reports of unexpected battery gauge behavior on Y40-70 and Y40-80 laptops, Lenovo determined the battery gauge software is performing as expected. The unusual gauge results being reported are a reflection of the battery reaching end of life.

Lenovo has released a Service TIP to assist customers with obtaining battery replacements under warranty, or if out of warranty, to find a replacement battery from Lenovo-approved vendors. The Service TIP can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/sf16-I0023

The part numbers for Y40-70/80 batteries are:

Y40 LG L13L4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500249 substitute part 121500251

To determine which battery came with your Y40 notebook, instructions for removing the bottom cover can be found in the Hardware Maintenance Manual pdf here. An alternative to opening your system (which does not void warranty) is to search for batteries using the model/product number located on the bottom cover.

Answer:Battery life

Syngonium,

Personally, I would recommend keeping the battery in the notebook for several reasons:

1) It protects you against data loss if the AC power glitches
2) It ensures the system will run 100% CPU capabilities on demand - some systems will scale the CPU a bit if the battery is removed to ensure adequate power is available to support all USB and other possible connections.  The battery helps the system manage through any peaks in power demand.

If you feel that you want to store the battery, I believe the popular recommendation is to store it at about 40% charge level.  Others may have somewhat different recommendations - I'm not sure there is an absolute answer.

Best regards,

Answer:Battery Life

Disconnect the AC adapter and let the battery drain below 95%, then reconnect it and it should charge. The battery, by default, will not charge when its capacity is above 96% (look in the thinkvantage power manager under "Battery" and "Advanced" for settings on battery charging cycles). This setting is supposed to extend the batteries life.

Question: Battery Life

When a battery on a laptop loses its battery life, do you usually contribute that to the adapter that charges the battery, or the battery itself? Reason I ask is because i've had my HP dz8000 (or zd) for about 4 years now. It is a desktop replacement and never really had a lot of battery life in the first place. It has a 3.4 intel P4, 2 gig ram, and a 256 mb video card. When i first purchased it i got two batteries, and they both lasted about an hour in a half. As time went on they kind of slowly lost their charge, and were down to about 50 minutes to an hour. Then within a week BOTH batteries died to where the laptop didn't get anymore than 8 minutes (on the best power save setting).

I was going to purchase a new battery, but the suckers run like 160 dollars. Then I got to thinking about how both batteries died at the same time. And how one battery was barely ever used (only switched them out like a handful of times on long trips) and it died at the same time and will only give me 8 minutes.

Okay long story short, i was starting to think it could be the adapter. And since the adapter is hella cheaper I was hoping it would be that. What do you guys think?

Answer:Battery Life

Hello,

No batteries last forever. Every rechargable battery dies after a period of time. Even the little AA ones you use with the Wiimotes or whatever. You will see that after a few years of constant use and recharge they need to be charged more often till they cant work anymore.

I know tha tin the case of the AA batteries this is because of the Acid that is in them starts to degrade over time and not hold the charge for long. I do not know how the laptop batteries work as per the interior. But i would guess it is along those lines.

Plus having the battery in if you are using a wall adapter will help kill the battery faster.

Cheers,
Mak

Question: Battery Life

I was just wondering about my laptop battery. Do I want to be sure it is fully dead before plugging it in? Or does it matter? Can I use the battery half way, than plug it in with no harm to the battery life? Thanks in advance.

(Note) My laptop is new, I bought it a few days ago, so it has a modern battery, just in case anyone is wondering.

Answer:Battery Life

Batteries now work on 'cycles' - the number of times the battery can be recharged, which is limited - anywhere between 300 and 2000 times depending on the quality of the battery. If you charge it when the battery level is halfway, then that's another cycle used. This means you've only gotten half the charge, but you've used up a full 'cycle', if you know what I mean. It technically doesn't damage the battery life, but it does mean the battery's life will be used up more quickly.

Keep in mind, I've used my netbook now for over a year without caring how long or when I charge it. I haven't had any problems.

Edit:During the quick bit of research I did for this post, I found that Macbooks have 80% charge after 300 charge cycles. This is less than a year's usage, assuming you use it fully every day...

I have had this laptop for seven months and my battery is down to 40% of it's capacity.  I understand that batteries lose capactiy over time, but to lose this much battery life is unheard of. I have done some research and I have found that this could be a Windows 7 issue or something with the laptop itself. I have done a few driver updates and I am very diligant about making sure my computer is not over charged and is only plugged until it is fully charged. My battery life has also seen a rapid decrease in holding in charge over the past two weeks-- it has cut my battery life to almost an hour from 2.5 hours and I'm afraid it will continue to decrease at this quick rate. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have tried calling customer service three times and I have been unsucessful in finding a solution.

Answer:T 410 battery life?

hey djyers, welcome to the forums.try the following- after a full charge use the laptop without power adapter until it goes dead on its own- charge it with adapter but do not use it, do not switch it on.- once fully charge and with adapter still connected, switch on and head over to Power Manager and do a battery gauge reset.- shutdown, unplug power adapter.- switch on unit and use it.calculate how long it takes from (100% battery) till it reaches critical 10% level ?

Hello all, Just got a new XPS L521X with 8 pre installed but the battery life isn't that great. I am getting mixed responses about if this is the normal battery life (about 25% an hour). I put "powercfg /energy" in CMD and I got this back:

Question: Battery Life

HiI have just got Lenovo T410i. My doubt is, Is it right to keep the laptop connected to Power supply even after the battery shows 100 % charged or should we remove the power supply once the battery is fully charged and use laptop on Battery power. Will this not lead to depletion of battery life?

Answer:Battery Life

go into your Thinkvantage Power Manager, set the battery charging to start below 60 to 70% and then stop at 95%, this should prevent the battery wearing out due to top up charging.
